Congress Passes Covid-19 Relief Bill
"Page bill weighs in at $1.4 Trillion to fund the federal government through September. Coupled with $900 billion in covert relief that relief includes $600 per person and direct stimulus payments $300 in additional unemployment insurance, more than 300 billion in loans to help small businesses and hundreds of billions more for schools, coronavirus testing and the distribution of vaccines. Some say it goes too far. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says it doesn't go far enough. It doesn't go all the way, but it takes us down the path a first step speaker. Pelosi was joined by House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, who said the bill solves some problems but not others. These include a resumption of expanded unemployment benefits. Another round direct payments relief for renters assistance to make sure that Americans can put food on the table. The staggering level of food insecurity caused by the Corona virus pandemic, says Hoyer is a stain on the nation in the richest Country on the face of the earth. We have people in food lines who can't feed themselves. That is not only wrong, it is immoral. Texas Republican representative Kay Granger supported the bill, saying there's a lot to cheer about our package. Will ensure the timely distribution of vaccines across the country, help small business affected by the economic downturn and provide much needed relief for airports and the airline industry. Which is so important. Democrat Debbie Wasserman Schultz agreed. The bill doesn't contain everything, but what it does contain, she says, is crucial. It shortchanges key relief programs like eight to our first responders and state and local governments. But the American people are suffering and need immediate relief. Many lawmakers who say the bill doesn't go far enough also say they're hopeful more relief will be on the way under the Biden administration. As the House passed the bill, the Senate took it up shortly thereafter racing toward a midnight deadline for passage to get much needed covert relief out the door and to close the chapter and head home for the holidays. A Closer Look at the Black-Jewish Congressional Caucus
"January and February have been full of commemorative moments for both the black and Jewish Communities. The birthday of Martin Luther King Junior the death anniversary of Anne Frank International Holocaust remembrance and Black History Month we sat down individually with three founders of the Black Jewish congressional caucus democratic congresswoman Brenda Lawrence Democratic congresswoman. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin to discuss why the caucus exists the issues. They think it will address and why it's important for black and Jewish leaders to work together. Not Apart I I asked about the original purpose of the Black Jewish congressional caucus how that purpose has evolved since its conception and what the main issues the caucus to address we. I posed the question to chief. Founder Representative Brenda Lawrence when I went to my colleagues. And ask them if they would be interested in forming a black Jewish Caucus. Civically this administration. I have seen an uptick in divisiveness and Rachel tension and also hate crimes been reported as validated being on Increasing and we have such a strong and long history of lack American and the Jewish community coming together in those times when our country lost its way the Jewish community came to the support of the black community during the civil rights movement. We have shared experience between the Holocaust. Slavery of being people oppressed by no other reason except for who we are and We know and we feel uniquely the stereotypes in the tension that are often placed on us as black and Jewish citizens of this country. And we are here in Congress to write laws and policies to ensure quality to make sure that we're forcing the civil rights of this country and we should be having a unique conversation around this and I can tell you I was so impressed with the support and willingness in a bipartisan way to form the caucus so what are the main issues that the caucus hopes to address. Well I want to know that as we look at hate crimes and discrimination as anti Semitic. It's racist xenophobic Often go back to Martin Luther King. Our unity is born of our common struggle for centuries not only to rid ourselves bandage but to make oppression of any people by others impossible so when we plan or what. Our jackets is our is that we will make sure that we are uniquely informed. We are aware of these incidents and policies and situations where we see Racism not being addressed properly or being able or being nurtured and that we can pass policies and enforce loss through our justice system to ensure we're holding true to one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all next. We asked Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz during the civil rights movement jewish-americans lent critical support to the N. Double ACP and fought alongside. Dr Martin Luther King Junior to challenge racial segregation in public accommodations and black leaders have stood with the Jewish community following the tragic shootings. At synagogues in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and POW California Joakim Prinz german-american Rabbi and refugee of Nazi. Germany represented the Jewish community as an organizer during the nineteen sixty three march on Washington. So that history is long and and significant and so the the The Black Jewish caucus is really important for us to be able to to retie those binds. And make sure that we can work on the modern day issues that are of mutual concern to both communities are purposes to assemble leaders to learn from one. Another advocate for joint concerns Regardless of party we believe And we exist because all partners are committed calling out hate and racism and discrimination anti-semitism and xenophobia whenever and wherever it rears its ugly head and you know our alliance in the Black Jewish caucus is really important so that we can work to honor and strengthen and safeguard the bond of our communities that have been developed in the struggle for equality in America. Then we asked representative Lee Zeldin. There is a need to better bridge the gap between the Jewish community and the black community and understanding a long rich history of the the black community fighting for on behalf of with the Jewish Committee and community and vice versa This isn't a new concept for us to be working closely and back in World War. Two was seven sixty first tank battalion. Bed Liberated gun skirt skin and God almost four hundred medals for their heroics their efforts and it was Jewish members who stood side by side with the black community during the civil rights push and some actually ended up giving up their lives in that fight for Justice and equality fast forward to two thousand and nineteen. This was announced in June But we were talking to each other about it for a few months leading up to that. Brenda Lawrence Really did a fantastic job taking a lead initiative. The American Jewish Committee was also influential and helpful with that. 'cause how has it evolved since then? I would say that more and more people have expressed interest in being part of it so it's become a bigger and it's allowed us to build a stronger network and we've seen a divide close But the challenges still exist and we just had a Hanukkah in two thousand nineteen that was marked by violent antisemitic attacks in and around the New York City area and some of the people who were paying attention to it saw that the individuals who are carrying out the attacks weren't neo Nazis. They weren't they weren't white supremacists. They weren't a radical Islamic extremists. And they they weren't Politically motivated it was a different dynamic than what you might have been talking about in June of two thousand nineteen You had some people who are talking about the the black Israel The Hebrew Israelite Movement But then others within that movement rejecting the acts carried out up in Munsey attacking the rabbi's home as well as attacking The the Jewish Kosher Supermarket in New Jersey. So in a way if you ask me how it evolved part of. It's been positive With all of the outreach in all of the new relationships and part of it has been an added challenge added friction as we witnessed what happened in the Hanukkah two thousand nineteen and struggling with figuring out how to as quickly as possible Deal with that next. We asked how the black community can support Jewish concerns and how the Jewish community can more forcefully advocate for African American issues. Here's what Linda Lawrence had to say. Yes the Jewish community has in the past as as you know during the civil rights movement Jewish communities one of our strongest legal and justice advocate on the judicial system but it is lifting the voice of Black America Black Lives Matter Institutional that is. Our biggest challenge institutional racism when it comes to the education when it comes to housing when it comes to the criminal justice lending voice to the black community and pointing out those things that are wrong and the black community. What we can do is make sure that we are calling out the stereotypes against the Jewish community. Then we heard from Debbie Wasserman Schultz. There is really some significant overlap that particularly with the violence and the Anti Semitism and bigotry. That is being hurled at our communities not just with these horrendous murders but with social media attacks and you know protest against our communities and discriminatory actions so we have a lot on our plate. Initially that I think are in my view important for our communities mutually and you know because the Caucasus really in its infancy as we mature and move down the road. Get to know one another issues that you know. We can be across the aisle and across our communities and the caucus focused on trying to prioritize the issues that the individual communities find important and lastly representative Lee Zeldin. Well we always spent a lot of times so far I talking about the way. The Jewish community has been targeted with not just Anti Semitic thoughts but antisemitic actions and violent and some cases of its cost people their lives. So you know the the ways for the the black community to identify what? The top issues are Right now for the Jewish community. We're seeing it. Play out really in the national news and the national debate for the Black Community The there still is racism in our country in many respects and I think that teaching tolerance and and understanding ensuring that policies aren't discriminatory that individuals have the ability to achieve the American dream and shouldn't be held back just because they might be someone of color or they might be practicing a different religion like Judaism. That discrimination racism still exists in our country. We saw it play out not too long ago on. Long Island where I'm from the first. Congressional district of New York is on the east end of Long Island There was a story that was in. Newsday was an investigative report of members of the real estate industry discriminating against people of color who were trying to find housing trying to Purchase a home to achieve the American dream. And unfortunately that's an exception and not the norm. It's rare But the response has been robust with investigations. That have been lost. launched as well as the real estate industry themselves Self policing Each Other To educate but educate each other and to push out of their industry people who are discriminating against Black individuals who are trying to own a home and then she the American dream so I would say as far as identifying some of the biggest needs right now of the black community. I would say that just like it was easy to identify anti-semitism as a top needed needs to get addressed for the Jewish community. I would say. Racism is something that's very prevalent and still needs to be addressed absolutely with regards to the black community next. We asked what issues of mutual concern? The caucus can address. Here's what Brenda Lawrence had to say. I think it's extremely important. That the black and Jewish community allow the history of oppression for either of our people to be forgotten. You know there's some people who like to say the Holocaust didn't happen. There are people who say You know black people so each other to slavery. So what's the big deal? We cannot allow the history that as horrific as it is to be forgotten. And that's something else that I think that we uniquely can do as citizens of this country and as survivor and Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Right now we have a really significant challenge around white supremacy and the rise of white supremacists in United States white supremacist increasingly targeted and killed large groups of people in recent years because of their race or religion in the United States in Twenty fifteen we had nine African Americans who were murdered murdered by a gunman whose name I won't mention at the Emmanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church Mother Emmanuel in Charleston South Carolina. Because and this is quoting the murderer. He knew that it would be a place to get a small amount of black people in one area. You had Robert Bowers. Last year yelled antisemitic. Slurs before he opened fire and killed eleven worshippers at the tree of life synagogue in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and that was the deadliest attack on the Jewish community. American history you've had attacks on mosques where insecurity has had to be increased after fifty one people were massacred to mosques in New Zealand. So we have a very current urgent challenge with bigotry. Anti-semitism white supremacists who are engaging in in deadly violence and so that's at the security and houses of fighting. Anti Semitism and bigotry is Is really the top of our current list of issue the very tragic areas of mutual concern for for both communities and and I would also add Particularly because most of these crimes perpetrated with guns the Jewish community in the African American community have have really come together around making sure that we can close all the loopholes that allow people who shouldn't have a gun under federal law here in the US be able to get them Now that issue is unfortunately not bipartisan. I was just getting ready to say. That's gotta be bipartisan. doesn't mean that That the hawks On Black Jewish relations can't take it on
Man charged with sending bombs to Trump critics pleads guilty
"The man charged with sending pie. Pipebombs to the media and critics of President Trump last fall pled guilty this afternoon, WCBS MAC, Rosenberg with more from Manhattan federal courts, withdrew his original not guilty plea this afternoon, and has now pleaded guilty to sixty five criminal counts. In this case. The fifty seven year old admitted to the judge all almost in a whisper that he sent sixteen devices designed to look like bombs to prominent Democrats like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton supporters and CNN back in October. Those devices had the return address of former Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and none of the pipebombs exploded sack was living in Florida at the time of his arrest in a van riddled with stickers of President Trump even held without bail since his arrest. The now faces a maximum of life in prison at his sentencing in
2020 election could be another 1972 for Democrats
"Me. It's fascinating looking back at the nineteen seventies in as someone that has studied history, and you know, about how sometimes there's these political cycles. It's fascinating to see how what happened in nineteen. Seventy two is starting to play out a little bit now as we get close to the the twenty twenty elections. And I was hoping you might be able to explain what happened in seventy two compared to what we're seeing today. Yeah, it's interesting. The the similarities are really Erie. Basically what happened in seventy two is you're coming off an election in one thousand nine hundred sixty eight where the incumbent vice president Hubert, Humphrey ran and lost really a razor close election. And he had won basically by not participating in the primaries. You only piss in one South Dakota. We came in third, but he went a lot of delegates at the convention. So as a result that was really? In. There was really there was there was a lot of incense between between between really inflamed the liberal, but the liberal insurrectionist anti-vietnam people was forty two, gene. Mccarthy in the primaries because the won the primary supported the Johnson ministrations proliferating in Vietnam war got the nomination. So it was a result in the general election. Eugene McCarthy finally get endorsed Hubert Humphrey, the kid by saying essentially, probably the most lukewarm endorsement, you can imagine. Support Hubert Humphrey and asked him I said my and asked my supporters suffer with me. And then. Where? I mean, I don't know. I don't know if you can take an endorsement that's a lot to try to fit on a button. But I'd I'd wear that. But that's funny. And then what happened was so after sixty eight from Richard Nixon Republican beats Humphrey, and then you have the scenario where you McCarthy who was the only really anti Vietnam war candidate really galvanize Westport among them by nineteen seventy-two Nike seventy one seventy two the there's a seismic change in the Democratic Party at moved to the left and the Vietnam war now, even Hubert Humphrey was running again opposed to be Warren called for termination of all troops in south East Asia. So now, gene McCarthy just one of many candidates matter of fact, pretty much majority of candidates were now opposed to be at Phnom results. You've lost that issue in seventy two. He runs again and Hubert Humphrey runs again if he kind of the establishment candidate. I mean, you haven't this time around you have George McGovern though, because he was seen as more galvanized into the anti Vietnam war can't war insurrectionist, so Israel, real key. Who was two hundred one at the beginning when nomination gene McCarthy is an afterthought only win three. Point six percent of the of the vote the popular vote among the democratic primary winner primary contested. And as a result, you have George McGovern winning the nomination then going onto lose miserably in the general election only winning one St. Massachusetts. Phone South Dakota. He and he wanted to why he knew the district Columbia. What's interesting is you see it very similar Somme or today because in two thousand and sixty in sixteen Hillary Clinton won the nomination, despite the fact that a lot of Bernie Sanders supporters felt cheated win a lot of the leak memos. Catchy note that Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the chairman of the Democratic Party had tried to basically basically worked rigged the system for Hillary Clinton results in the general election. Bernie Sanders did come out he did support Hillary Hillary Clinton. But now, you have the scenario we are a lot of Bernie Sanders positions for Medicare for all for example, for a single payer for healthcare for breaking up the corporations breaking up, the big bang and democratic socialism. A lot of those issues are now the mainstream the Democratic Party taxing the rich Camille, the Harris, for example, was moved to the left on MIR. Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts running the scenario. Bernie cares. Not the only liberal alternative to the more. Moderate establishment, the Democratic Party. And it'll be interesting to see if he can. A lot of the people over somebody like Tulsi Gabbard from Hawaii. I'm a lot of others are now running is progressive. No, there really aren't very many New Democrats. Never Bill Clinton ran down a crowd of moderate democrat. There really aren't now we have Mary where everybody's essentially moving to the left and Bernie Sanders is just you know, it's just one choice of many lip pretentious liberal candidate. You only see a couple of very few New Democrats. You have the Beto veto from down from Texas who lost Iraq Iraq, you lost to Ted Cruz. You also have some people are talking about in south bend, the mayor Buddha judge Judy judge. Yup. Yeah. He's also someone that's kind of like fresh blood for them. But other than that, you see a lot of the same names coming up people are like crossing their fingers Joe Biden runs again, which is fascinating too. Because you know, he he sat out, and obviously if he would have ran during this last election that would have really complicated things you throw him into the mix with the Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders popularity going on the one I would look to to when I think when he does. And now somebody who if you're looking for somebody who gets votes in red states. Steve Bullock in Montana's, a very interesting candidate because he was just reelected in Montana by four points the same election when Donald Trump won by twenty five twenty point and got about twenty five percent of Trump's supporters. If he's one candidate could make that general election case, perhaps. But of course, right now. He's known as Peter Budaj Jagan, you know, some of the other. Yeah. And big part of this too. Is that it's you're looking at a Donald Trump that's going to run in a lot of times. You are curious. What are the odds that he gets elected? So he's got a lot in his side right now, the fact that he's the sitting president adds a lot of favor to him being reelected. You see historically speaking that seems to help pave things a little bit. But even if you look at some of the polls coming in and you look at some of the people in Vegas when they set the odds, they're still setting him as the by far favourite. And I think that when you have a crowded democrat field in you don't know who's gonna come forward on that side that also hurts the Democrats costs us because they don't have like one person they can rally behind right now. In the case of the Republicans are kinda worked in their favor. Last time you saw Donald Trump rise to the very top in a lot of people were reluctant because they didn't want him to. But he's still didn't regardless. I don't know if there's any democrat that could rise like Donald Trump did during this last election. Yeah, it's interesting because if you're looking for somebody like that. Donald trump. And you're looking for somebody who basically people would not be thinking of right now the one candidate. I'm not sure she can win. But the one candidate. I think you're gonna see. Well, we'll surprise a lot of people. It's healthy gabbert the congresswoman from Hawaii simply because she's running. It's kind of a younger version of Bernie Sanders. This is somebody who was the co-chair who had worked Democratic National Committee lifetime, actually resigned. Her post may end up supporting Bernie Sanders because you're supposed to technically be neutral what she has a lot of other candidates. Don't have EPA episode and non interventionist foreign policy, and that's something that has peeled really across the political spectrum. Remember when Ron Paul ran, for example in two thousand eight and two thousand twelve a lot of liberals who didn't Mike is positions. A lot of other things like position on being a non interventionist and TC only can it in the field that emphasize Matt right now. So I can see her really taking a play for that type for a lot of example, a lot of independent voters. A lot of liberal voters. Who think Bernie Sanders is perhaps a little bit too all a little bit more charismatic? That's the one that I would watch. And as I say. That's deep. Bullock, the governor Montana. If he does run I do think if you look at these polls that show what Democrats want more than anything else. One AD logical. Purity is an eastern buddy who I think can make the case that you look I've gotten elected into red state interested state, I've been relatively progressive governor of expanded Medicaid expanded gun control. I've I've supported campaign finance reform. He can potentially make that case. It's kind of like Bill Clinton in ninety two. He certainly wasn't the favorite of a lot of Democrats who thought that you know, who I think would would grabs in heart wanted somebody like Jerry Brown or Tom Harkin or someone who's more liberal they closed Bill Clinton because they've not a power for twelve years. He he could win votes in the conservative state of Arkansas and Bill Clinton got the nomination that time and tarp emphasizing that I think there could he could potentially move up those the two candidates. I'm kinda watching right now, then you really haven't had much name recognition back and see where they can make an

The high tech manufacturer Foxconn says seeking to bring in workers from China to help run the factory under construction near the city of Racine. Governor Walker back to plan with the support of house speaker Paul Ryan and President Trump to. Died three billion dollars in tax credits to Foxconn claiming the taxpayer money would provide thousands of new jobs while renovating Wisconsin's economy, but Foxconn has scaled back its plans now saying it'll hire just three thousand workers in the short term, most of them and engineering positions rather than the thirteen thousand Matthew facturing jobs governor Walker had promised and the size of the tax payer subsidy has steadily increased to four point one billion dollars during two terms office. Governor Scott Walker which known for aggressively busting unions, and for his close ties to right wing dark money groups, and those are some of the headlines, this is democracy. Now democracy now dot org. The warrant piece report, I'm Amy Goodman, Juan Gonzalez, welcome to all of our viewers and listeners across the country and around the world. Democrats have seized control of the house of representatives flipping more than two dozen seats. This gives Democrats subpoena power for the first time since President Trump was elected two years ago, while the Democrats will control the House Republicans picked up two more seats in the Senate on the state level. Democrats picked up seven governorships huge turnout numbers were reported across the country. President Trump responded to the election results by tweeting, quote, if the Democrats think they're going to waste taxpayer money investigating us at the house level. Then we will likewise be forced to consider investigating them for all of the leaks of classified information and much else at the Senate level to complete that game. The terms were a groundbreaking election for women for the first time in US history. At least one hundred women will serve in the US house of representatives, including the first two native American women and the first two Muslim women later in the program. We'll hear from. Democratic socialist Alexandra Cossio Cortes who became the youngest woman ever elected to congress. But we begin today's show with two guests here in New York, Katrina, vanden Heuvel, editor and publisher of the nation. America's oldest weekly magazine. She's also a columnist for the Washington Post dot com, and we're joined by Rashad Robinson, executive director of color of change. We welcome you both to democracy. Now, let's begin with Katrina vanden who've oh your thoughts on what has taken place the house now in the hands of Democrats Republicans have expanded control of the Senate. I think taking back the house is critical is a check on President Trump. But also, I think it's important people know that a majority of the committees and subcommittees will be controlled by progressives. The progressive caucus will have about ninety members some of the women you mentioned will join and it will have thirteen committees. And I think thirty subcommittees that's important. And I think the ability to not only hold the president in the. Administration accountable on corruption on self interest on self-dealing, but the ability to lay out bold initiatives, bold, legislation may not pass with a Senate as we've seen it. But it's critical. I think that the progressive Democrats lay out in this war of ideas, that progressives have been winning to a certain extent fifteen minimum wage jobs program infrastructure, free higher. Ed. The governor's race is one spoke of critical critical both as a blue wall against the redistricting scams that we've seen from the Republicans critical also to rest back the rust belt from Trump who really did. Well, and key parts, Wisconsin. How sweet it is Scott Walker going down. I mean, my colleague John Nichols has written so much copy about this man who busted public workers assault on education has demeaned and degraded the Wisconsin idea, so I think that's critical amendment for renewed Robinson. And I were. Talking about it. One thing we've seen in this election. Amien won the barriers to democratic participation the will funded targeting voting suppression. So men men for restoring rights to ex-felons to vote one point four million Floridians will be able to vote I think is a vital step on the road to a true democracy. Statehouses? We haven't seen the numbers yet. But those will be hopeful as well flipping. I think Minnesota and a few others. So I think it was you know, it was a bittersweet night because we've seen the incendiary toxic. Nationalism xenophobia, any immigrant actions talk of this president and his enabler in the Republican party. You know, they they secured some wins. However, those who say was kinda split, let's all recall that the Senate map is the most horrific for Democrats. I mean, it's just, you know, the one third up we're really states in which the Republicans and Trump of played well, you mentioned the rust belt, and it to know that there were three states that really delivered for Trump, Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania and of the and they're those three in those three states. The statewide all Ron's either for governor or for Senate for the US Senate of the Democrats won six out of seven. So you've seen a situation now where those key states now are really not as reliable Republican as they appear to be in two thousand. One. I mean, many of those voters went for Obama in two thousand and eight and two thousand and twelve so it was that flip in two thousand sixteen that has to be looked at. And I think last night was in good insight into what is possible in twenty twenty in effect. We can talk about a twenty twenty began last night, but that's a different discussion. But I think you see it with taking back those those state houses there were some good minimum wage initiatives in states very troubling that good initiative in Washington state, the kind of carbon tax the green new deal went down. You still see the power of corporate money in our system and at the state level. There were six states that moved into total democratic contrived and the one of the New York state where the New York state Senate, which was had been very evenly divided. The Republicans control now is overwhelmingly democratic twenty three. I think is now the number in the New York state Senate win that means in terms of what can be accomplished. By progressives. Progressives won a supermajority in the Vermont house neutralizing, the newly reelected governor fill Scott's veto threat knows this. I mean, it's critical on so many levels. But historically, as you will know we've lost over a thousand state legislative seats in the last few years. So this is coming back and saying Democrats progressives are going to play at all levels, New York state. You studied you've written one? It's a major win us. See what governor Cuomo does with it because he's hid behind the inability to do much with the independent democratic conference now defeated one last race, which I think is very important one. And I were talking about is Antonio Delgado in the nineteenth congressional district that race was supercharged with toxic racist rhetoric. John Foucault has held out against good people except for teach out, but he's gone. So I think you know, it's a bittersweet, but I think real gains were made. And I think it would be wrong to. Downplay those one of the nation's most closely watched races of the year remains too close to call Georgia secretary of state Brian Kemp, holding a slim lead over democratic challenger Stacey Abrams who is vying to be the first African American woman governor in US history, but Abrams is refusing to concede because thousands of absentee ballots have not yet been counted campus currently at fifty point five percent if he dips below fifty the race goes to a runoff. The Georgia race was marred by widespread allegations of voter suppression carried out by Brian camp. Again, who is as Georgia secretary of state is in control of the elections, despite the fact many demanded that he recused himself. Meanwhile, in Florida Democrat Andrew gillum conceded to Republican Ron to Santa's after a tight race Gillam attempting to become Florida's first African American government, but faced a string of racist attacks from outside groups into Santa's who told Floridians knocked. Monkey this up and in Maryland, Republican governor Larry HOGAN was re elected defeating democrat, Ben jealous. The former head of the N double ACP or shod Robinson. You're the executive director of color of change. Yeah. I think I think these. You know, what happened last night with particularly with Andrew in Stacy's race. I think represents the way that the south is changing.
Debbie Wasserman Schultz speaks about suspicious packages
"York state police NYPD at least. Twelve packages sent to a number of people and us organizations openly critical of President Trump. He is expected any moment to speak to the subject publicly, many the bomb mail packages with return address of former democratic congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz in Florida, this community will not stand for any attack on our democracy. CBS news special report, I'm Jim Taylor. Eunice south now says some of the twenty three hundred children traveling with that migrant caravan in southern Mexico are ill or suffering from dehydration. The UN agency called for the migrant children to be given protection and access to healthcare clean water and other essentials early voting turnout for the

"These section. That they're looking at is. I think it's it's open Laka OPEL Locka Florida now in open Locka, Florida. There is a processing facility for the for the postal service that does not deal in letters only deals in packages. And they believe it's from there or through there that these packages went there was also, of course, the confusion about a package being sent to congressman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. However, that's not what happened. It was sent to the former attorney general Eric Holder, but it was returned to sender. The returned to sender address was her Debbie Wasserman Schultz in Florida, and that's why they thought it was sent to her. So this is one of the places they're looking at there was a post office in New York that they shut down to because of of a suspicious package as well. So there have been twelve but they do have a person in custody. However, let's make sure we're clear about what we're saying here. There are no. Charges filed a person in custody. Could mean there's questioning could mean an association maybe there's more than one person right now. There is a news conference scheduled a four today. Right now, it's set for two thirty PM eastern time. Now, if it happens to come earlier are there any other conferences, we're going to bring that to you know, question sharing. This is is very important and worthwhile. What's important worthwhile? Is that while the the media apparatchik wants to scream and blame Trump. And while there are people out there who wanna talk false flag operations. We are the ones who aren't deterred or confused. We are the ones who are not going to let this keep us from our our appointed rounds if you will. We're taking a look at these midterm elections. Now, President Trump wrote on Twitter. If you didn't know, you might you might not be aware of this. This may come as a bit of a shock to.

I'm Jim Bohannon stand by for some more of those animal stories all I had on America in the morning. It's seven after I'm John trout. The list of people who were sent suspected explosive devices is growing with Robert de Niro and Joe Biden having joined the list yesterday morning. The devices are being closely examined by FBI lab. Technicians says the manhunt for the responsible person or persons intensifies. Steve Kastenbaum has our lead story. They're learning new information by the hour that was the word from New York City's police Commissioner about the joint terrorism task forces investigation into the packages that were sent to at least ten people now, but James O'Neill wouldn't answer questions about whether the apparent pipebombs were rigged to explode. Or if they were just meant to instill fear. We're not gonna give you. A hundred percent accurate description. What the devices were, but we treat. We have to treat them as as live devices. This is a protocol that our bomb squad people use and it keeps everybody safe when pressed on what he would call them. The Commissioner said suspected explosive devices the FBI confirmed that packages sent to actor Robert deniro and former vice president Joe Biden, we're nearly identical to those said to George Soros, Barack Obama Hillary Clinton and others FBI assistant director in charge Bill. Sweeney wouldn't comment on reports that some of the packages may originated in Florida. I'm not going to get in to specifically where we think the packages came from somewhere, obviously delivered or in the postal system. I'll leave it at that. They're now calling this a domestic terrorism investigation, which mayor Bill de Blasio said New Yorkers will not be ruled by fear. They're not going to let an act of terror intimidate them. All of the devices are now being examined that the FBI's laboratory in Quantico. Steve Kastenbaum, New York. It's nine after one of the high profile Democrats targeted by the would be bomber has spoken. Correspondent Linda Kenyon has details. The packages were addressed a former President Obama Hillary Clinton. US Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Representative Maxine Waters and several other prominent Democrats investigators are focusing leads in Florida, the FBI says that's because many of the packages had the return address of the Florida office of Wasserman Schultz, the former chair of the Democratic National Committee. We will never be cowed Wasserman Schultz speaking to a crowd and plantation. In florida. So the last couple of days have been trying for many of us to say, the least this sure looks to me like domestic terrorism and threats of political violence Republican Ben Sasse, sometimes critic of the president is taking Trump to task over his rhetoric both before and after these bomb scares the president has the biggest bully pulpit in America. And he needs to affirm again that we can all political terrorism in America. Let's ask says the president is just part of the problem a bit part, but still only apart when you have a bunch of people in DC who talk insanely like politics is ultimate. It's not surprising that some insane people start to act like politics are alternate. Latest targets of these bomb. Scares are actor Robert deniro and outspoken critic of President Trump and former vice president Biden who spoke to reporters Thursday in Buffalo, New York..
Feds turn focus to Florida in search for package bomb sender
"The feds have descended on a postal facility in south Florida in their hunt for the package bomb. Culprit FBI agents are coming through the facility. Nope. Alaka? Whereas some of those mailings may have originated CBS's Hillary lane on other packages that came through Thursday, former vice president Joe Biden was one of the targets of the two package bombs. We've got a. We gotta come together the package is intended for Biden looks like the others with the return address of Florida congresswoman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, actor Robert deniro was another target of one of the packages. Police say it was sent to his production studio right here in the Tribeca neighborhood of Manhattan, none of the suspected bombs detonated. But investigators still consider them potentially dangerous since the bombs never went off. Investigators are not sure if they were just meant to scare
Who's responsible for Pipe bombs sent to Democrats?
"Behind sending the ten pipebombs to Democrats weighing in retired Utah congressman Republican Jason chafe. It's now a Fox News contributor details. From USA radio's Timberg at least ten suspicious packages were sent to prominent Democrats and critics of President Trump. The latest were addressed to actor Robert deniro and former vice president. Joe Biden, former congressman Jason Chaffetz. Joined Fox News to talk about where he believes there's a security breakdown where the system does break down. "Happens all the time. Make yourself clear. We can do that. Give me clip number three, high demand American employers also needs to take responsibility too often illegal immigrants are ward here on the promise of a job to receive on conscionable unconscionably, low wages Elliott, first of cheap labor, unscrupulous employers. Look the other way when employees presented fraudulent US citizenship documentation. These X hurt both American workers and immigrants who so lame as to work hard and get ahead. And that's why we need a simple foolproof and mandatory mechanisms for all employers to check the legal status of new hires. Let me repeat we need strong border security at the borders, but we also need a virtual border that is created by employers. Having to check to see if these people genuinely are legally. Wow. Back when the Democratic Party actually was standing up for what would benefit working America as opposed to pretending to in my opinion. Yeah. Some of that was a Senator Barack Obama being overly optimistic. Unfortunately, about the reality of the political power to keep illegal immigration going direction was gone, right? I mean because that's completely reasonable what he just said. And almost everybody agrees with that. Right. I mean, it's it's not even close, but he couldn't beat him. So he joined them, I guess the open borders crowd or that do nothing about it. Crowd on Mike Pence just made a strong statement in a tweet about this is not not cool. Whoever sent it around these these packages suspicious packages to the Clintons. The obamas. And Debbie Wasserman Schultz down in Florida and CNN. I mean, it's really a who's who of a certain kind of liberal boogeyman? Yeah. Exactly liberal boogeyman. But we got this text. It's a lefty extremist trying to sway the vote to the left by leaving bombs making it look like a right wing craziness out there. It certainly could be. It's a crazy person. Either way. I'm not gonna regular feature on the show as me trying to decide whether something is real racism or social Justice warrior faking some because they're so troubled by racism, they want people to be as troubled as they are. So they create and this is a very similar case perfect as an expert in this. I will tell you. It's awfully perfect. But there are plenty of crazy people out there on all sides of the coin flip. Oh, I don't have enough. I'm not gonna deny. There are plenty of crazy people out there that by the whole will the those are boogeyman and then while we're playing roulette and trying to figure out if it's going to land on red or black. Let us not forget the two green squares that are involved China and Russia be active kind of way. Excellent point positive paranoid. Sean. No, that's not paranoid. That just be. That would be brilliant Putin. Maneuvering it and having read Putin's Bob biography about him. He has done that very sort of thing has actually blown things up. We have the answer. He is actually blown things up to make it look like the Chechens. So he can do various thing. Gully FBI. Yeah. Oh, great move. If Russia did that horrifying, but really smart. Yeah. Really get him at each other's throats. Right. Start sending each other bombs, not not real bombs nonce bloating bombs. The fact that none of them went off. Makes it because there are four at this point. Three or four three four five. So there's there's the one to Soros than the Debbie Wasserman Schultz Quinton anybody can make a bomb spend five minutes on the internet. They didn't do a very good job. If they actually wanted to blow some perfected nothing blew up tells me, this is a gesture. It would be a completely over the top insanely committed and insane activists who would send actual bombs to make the other side look bad that would be way way way out there. I could see an activist descending inert bombs, quote, unquote bombs to make the other side, look bad. So that's almost a point in that favor. Mohammed, of course. Boy, these are weird. How 'bout we get in front of this before we find out whether the person's wearing a Bernie hat or a maga- hat. We don't paint the other side with this person. Degree complete foul to do you. Judge your side the best of your intentions and the other side by the worst of their freaks. Yeah. Exactly. They're they're completely insane. Freak right represents the other side. Correct. "Trying to pull together all the stories that have been hitting me days. It's hard when you have tons of stories coming out you tons of speculation coming at you. And you have to kenley break it down. I know there are seven plus targets today with these unusually non-explosive pipebombs that were sent to well, former first families the Obamas the Clintons, New York governor, Andrew Cuomo, George Soros. Headquarters the CNN and New York. Former attorney general Eric Holder. There was a package addressed to rip Republican sorry. Republicans star she's not a Republican Representative Maxine Waters. And that was intercepted US congress male facility, which is located on site where the congresswoman works. The bomb was sent to Eric Holder ended up being rerouted to the return address of Debbie Wasserman Schultz in Florida, and there was no package addressed to her. But multiple packages had her address as a return address on them. So. It looks like the CNN package got all the way to the the mail room. One or more of the package is also contain envelopes that had an unknown white powder inside. So not only was there this possibility of of a pipe bomb. Possibly more rice in perhaps anthrax who knows? An ETF officials said during a press conference at the device into CNN was a pipe bomb. NYPD said the device sent to CNN was a live explosive device. And the implication is that the this and the other devices had the capacity to kill. None of the devices went off their lethal has not yet been confirmed by bomb technicians. We have not heard the lethal of the of of these so-called bombs. The feds wouldn't disclose during any of the press conferences, exactly what was in the packages. They said, well, it's consistent with the other packages. Let's just put it that way. So we have the investigation is ongoing. So many crazy things have been done. A lot of what we call security theater happening. I heard something about New York and the national guard being called out. Why how's that going to prevent the mail from the finding is destination? It's just I just find it. Interesting. Do you remember back when we were doing the rice and report remember that remember that I was talking about the REIs report, and how is going to, you know, all those people, and I said, wow, this is the biological attack. I guess I predicted and I was all over it. And I was reporting it there was not really that much of any type of reporting going on in the mainstream. From CNN or MSNBC or any group? I know that FOX was all over it. Because this was an attack on the president. But now this has happened to democratic leaders. This got you know, this has got the most attention I've ever seen and the truth is is that the rice, and that was sent to these to the mail rooms of these leaders was active, and it could have poisoned someone made a few staff members at Ted Cruz is operatives sick. Now, what are these bombs went off? So they were sending a pipe bomb with a trigger mechanism on it. You know? They weren't there. Those those bombs went there to take anybody out there were there to scare people. They were they were basically scare type of tools there. Do. They weren't there to. Kill anyone. And and so that raises my my eyebrows just a little bit. I also saw the John Brennan envelope or bamboo below. They they said the bomb below John Brennan Time Warner's CNN ten Columbus circle,.

We are fine. Thanks to the men and women of the secret service who intercepted. The package address to us long before it made its way to our home.
