Fresh update on "washington " discussed on ESPN Daily

"Welcome back to ESPN Daly's special 20th anniversary series about pardon the interruption, the very strange sports television show that kind of changed everything. In our first two episodes, which you can find earlier in this feat. We tracked how Tony and Mike went from newspaper guys at The Washington Post where they once looked down on all TV people as, quote, pretty boy poodles. Two ESPN, where they put on makeup and almost immediately started winning best in show. Now, to be clear, Tony and Mike did not expect PTI to be some blue ribbon industry changing program when they started it. So I wanted to know. When did it start to feel like this whole thing was working? When I heard people talking about watching it, maybe sometimes players that are now ex players, and they said, dude, I'm watching the show. Probably early on when they told us how many people were watching and it was many more people than they told us they'd be happy with watching. And everybody was suddenly saying I like this show. Even the people at the post were saying we like this show, and so, you know, we probably looked at each other at one point and we said well, in for a dime in for a dog, we might as well keep doing this for a while. But remember here, Tony and Mike were infamous for waging these office wide, battle Royale arguments that could consume entire newsrooms. So it also seemed important from the beginning for the co hosts to actually host people. They both wanted visitors. They wanted houseguests. It's important to have outside voices because it's important to have outside voices in everything. In your family life is important to have outside voices. That's why people have consultants. That's why they have people they argue with, that's why they have people they call in and say, take a look at this for me. What do you think? That's why their editors outside voices just to have something incestuous is dangerous. It's awful. It's not credible, and I don't want to watch it. But while Tony and Mike could argue forever, the ethos of PTI was also this transparent economy of time. This was designed to be a 30 minute show with a clock and a rundown, where you hit topics for like 90 seconds before a literal bell would ring. So Eric ride home, the executive producer, he also designed a clear time limit for any and all guests, 5 good minutes. For.

Jake Warner Describes How Alliance Defending Freedom Is Protecting America

"Sometimes we bring on folks from the ice spending freedom to help explain what it is that they do in case you don't already know. I have a with me, Jake Warner, who's a legal counsel with the alliance defending freedom and their client Scott chin. Guys, God bless you for coming on the program. Jake explain to my audience what this issue is about. Everywhere we look, there are issues like this. They're crazy. And if it weren't for 80, if the government would be getting away with murder, almost literally, go ahead and explain what this case is about. Sure. Thanks, Eric. A few months ago, the Washington Supreme Court said the state could punish a religious organization for declining to hire someone who did not share the religious faith of the organization. The Seattle's union gospel mission serves the homeless in the city of Seattle and they've done so for nearly a century. But back in 2017, a lawyer tried to apply for a position there, but he did not share their religious organizations beliefs. He didn't attend church. He didn't agree with the religious lifestyle requirements of the mission and he even applied trying to change the mission's religious beliefs to understandably the mission went with a different candidate. But this a lawyer turned around and sued the mission and the case went all the way up to the Washington Supreme Court and the Washington Supreme Court said that the mission could be punished for declining to hire this person. He did not share their beliefs. And we've now asked the U.S. Supreme Court to weigh in and hear this

"The immigration crisis at the southern border if you win this congressional seat listen yeah it's a seat where only people in the congressional district in Washington can vote for you Obviously But you're voting on national issues It's not a state Senate seat It's on a state seat It is a federal seat You're take on immigration What's going on at the border given that we learned last night from Bill meluan on Fox that the Biden administration is doing a de facto Amnesty Joe what they're doing is they're using parole and parole doesn't mean what it does in the criminal system It means like taking people in from a foreign country giving them a reason to be here They're doing it on a mass scale your thoughts on what's going on at the southern border and they factor Amnesty Yeah it's just insanity I mean the crisis on our border is going to affect every single American city So I'm here in Pacific Northwest geographically where far away from the border but we're essentially a border town because we're surrounded by a sanctuary city I got Portland to our south Seattle to our north I 5 quarter going up and down I talked to our local law enforcement We had a massive uptick in crime We recently had a sheriff's deputy killed doing a counter narcotics mission to protect community out here And that's all directly linked to the lack of a border wall And then the Joe Biden opening up our southern border So the woman I'm running against he's a Republican Jamie Herrera butler She voted to stop the construction of the southern border wall with the Democrats Over the first two years we had Republicans in the House and the Senate when Trump was in charge We had a mandate from the American people to build that wall into secure our border and to do what's right for our people We had Republicans like Jimmy her butler crossed the island betray us So we have to get the military down there I think finish the wall really even go after the cartel that's on the border to defend our borders And then we have to have a full immigration moratorium I mean really the massive amount of labor immigration that's going to come across the border is really an attack on the American

Biden Special Envoy Warns US Must 'Prepare' for Fully Nuclear Iran

"States. Doctor oran, welcome back great to talk to you again, sir. Good to talk to you. Big story coming from the Washington free Beacon. I know that this is something that's gotten a lot of attention in Israel has gotten next to none here in the United States. Adam credo reporting yesterday that U.S. Iran envoy Robert malley, whose name is very familiar to those of us who follow these things, says that the Biden administration is preparing for, quote, a world where Iran doesn't have constraints on its nuclear program. Comments that show how little progress has been made in negotiation with Tehran regarding a return to the JCPOA the 2015 Barack Obama ran deal. Doctor Oren, I mean, if that deal had remained in place, we'd still be dealing with in Iran didn't have any constraints on its nuclear weapons program. I mean, I think that that's one thing that should be said right off the bat. That deal wasn't going to prevent Iran from creating nuclear weapons. It only it only had a ten year pause in it, maybe. And that's only if you believed Iran was complying with it. Yes, that's true. It was ultimately going to his line was ultimately going to have an unlimited nuclear program. The big difference was that while it restrained itself somewhat, and some aspects of the program, just on the nuclear enrichment, not a missile development, not on the development of advanced centrifuges, not on developer warheads, didn't do anything about any of that. But when I was going to get paid a 100 billions of dollars that it wasn't going to spend on schools and hospitals, you can believe that. I think the major thing that rob valley is saying, believe it or not is the truth and the truth that has been around for a long time. I've been talking about on these really news. And that is the United States is willing to coexist with an Iran that has threshold capacity. I mean, the ability is created a bomb within a matter of weeks, because you've been a matter of days. Among the professionals, if referred to as Japan like capabilities, there's Japan has that capability, but of course, you can't threaten to wipe anybody off the map or is not supporting financial payers. Loudoun County Father Arrested at School Board Meeting After Daughter Allegedly Raped in School Bathroom

"For years, we have been warning about how the trans lobby is going to be endangering young women because they're going to allow young men that have mental problems who think they are women. Allowed into locker rooms. And we have been pushing back against this. Rather, I don't want to say unsuccessfully. There's been some wins and some losses, but the ACLU and all these major organizations, they are pathologically focused on trying to destroy regular gender norms and reinforce gender dysphoria. Now gender dysphoria used to be something that was talked about and was accepted as a real thing, and now we have decided to reorganize society completely and to play into a very serious mental condition that people should get treatment for. They should get counseling for. And so, in loudon county, you might remember this father that went to the school Scott Smith, who was arrested for disorderly conduct for trying to speak out at the school board meeting and then the national school board association calls him a domestic terrorist now why was he there? I want every father listening to this to know this story. Well, he was there because on May 28th, a boy who pretends to be a girl allegedly wearing a skirt, entered a girl's bathroom nearby stone bridge high school and sexually assaulted his 9 9th grade daughter. This is according to daily wire and Washington examiner. The family's attorney said, quote, a boy was charged with two counts of forcible sodomy. And one count and this is very graphic. So if you want to just talk about poppies and rainbows, go find another network. One count of anal sodomy, and one count of forcible fellatio, related to an incident that day at the school. The sheriff's office confirmed, via a public records request that this was a real charge, mapping, matching the date and location of smith's rape. US Rep. John Yarmuth to Retire From Congress

"Biggest news story yesterday that you don't know is a huge news story is this. John yarmouth is quitting. Now you don't know who congressman John yarmouth is, and thus you happen to be listening to me in Kentucky. He is represented Louisville for a long time. And he is quitting. He is also the chairman of the budget. Committee. So he actually had a big job. Why is he quitting? Because there is a tsunami coming. The Democrats have gotten everybody mad at them in record time. Joe Biden's numbers are slipping under the 44% approval number. The big news yesterday is that Terry mcauliffe is going down with the Biden ship, reached out desperately and asked, you know, he has to come campaign for him. Not the president of the United States. The former president of the United States Barack Obama. Barack Obama is going to show up, but I hate to break it the Democrats, you still like him I know, but he's not the crowd generator and he's not the enthusiasm manufacturer that he used to be, and you can't stop people like John yarmouth from saying, I'm done here. And you know why the Democrats are not quitting? All the Democrats in Congress are saying, no Mas no Mas. It's not just because of redistricting and Joe Biden's unpopularity. They all need a job when they lose. In the 2010 election. After the ObamaCare fiasco, which is not as big as the fiasco of the Biden spending. It's one third the fiasco of the bidens. When the American people don't like to spend money they don't have money that they're borrowing. You have any Democrats lost in 2010, 63. 63. That meant 63 Democrats looking for jobs in Washington D.C. and John yarmouth is smart and says, you know, I'm going to go find a job before I lose. I'm not going to get bailed out of time with everybody else on a red tide. I'm getting out of here. So that's a tell.

"Yeah and the fall house votes on your course democrats don't vote for republican speakers but people they want that guy who they think offers them the best chance of leading the ways to success i did it on a couple of conditions one of which was that we have an aggressive agenda that we think is good in right and will help the country in pursue that agenda and i'm excited when we're pursuing this agenda and that's what gets me up in the morning and that's what gets big work in late at night paul ryan was reluctant to do this for lotteries and one he knew it was a tough to he's got a little kids you know he has an actual life back in wisconsin where you think you pulled that i don't travel weakens a moment week abdic has speakers typically an older gianina once told me he will he didn't make it home for about three or four months straight and that's as crazy but leila go to your kids saga is walgreens batons asked all season now i'm doing soccer basketball that we just finish crosscountry so yeah i spend my weekends at home just like other members of congress do let's talk about ryan's relationship with president trump during the campaign you could almost feel ryan's discomfort at various moments when the president said something or did something or was accused of something uh this is the party of lincoln of reagan of jack kemp and we don't always nominate a link it in a reagan every four years but we hope that our nominee arms as far as the be link at a reagan asked and now as speaker he finds himself working pretty closely with trump and generally reserving criticism of him and that has prompted the criticism somewhat unique to this president that the house speaker is an enabler of trump.

"However michael i will not be doing your taxes this year that's to back his last year does it took bang up job you know one of the other things they eliminate here actually and getting rid of the deductions is the deduction for paying somewhat to do your taxes to bat i am surprised i am surprised that you've got rid of the medical deduction we are getting rid of itemize deductions except for private charities and packages i've already hearing aids in response like that penalizing sick people in that if you were letting people keep their own money they decide within since then call some of the elements of his bill are pretty technically complicated i want to focus on you and then ryan spoke of something called the medical first deduction can you guys walk us through that your tax the so you the medical deduction for people with extremely high medical bills they can deduct part of those you have to reach a certain threshold which is pretty difficult to reach and you've be show that you can deduct eur medical expenses so in some ways that is for people who are pretty sick you know if you're gonna pile up those kind of bills and so they eliminate that and i said well isn't that penalizing sicker people and so we're getting rid of all these deduction we don't want it we so we're not going to single that we're now here's what these deductions do we raise your taxes you pay higher taxes but if you engage in a certain behaviour then you can use election get your money back were saint just keep your money in the first place uk where's the saying we're going to lower your tax rates in the first place you keep your money you decide what you want to do if you want it for medical expenses great for retirement for home you decide so when lessing but a a little broader question you know.

"There is the swamp in washington dc and the values that trump has bows to are coming under attack and we can certainly have a lot of fun reporting on that there's so many people in this town that do not want to see his agenda put into place and sell there's plenty material sounds like a choice fearing a saying is that our side our perspective has won the white house but it's on actually winning the larger political governmental war that actually may be losing it they're man is in charge of the executive branch but they're still clinging to that outsider status because it's been so profitable for them the fact that trump's agenda stalled in congress that he's facing opposition on repealing obamacare and other major promises he made during the campaign allows breitbart to persist in that role as a belligerent as the selfstyled barbarians at the gate in washington dc which is a little strange since the chairman of the whole website was chief strategist the president he still feels like he's an outsider the thought on uh just requested a or as far as the call for them by referendum now i mean i i would you said look i think look it is the president is doing everything he can to move this country forward and i think whether it's the democrats in the senate who are trying to stall these nominees or these little political stance on the house side the bottom line is brian large rural all all thank you very much thanks for having me free the washington he's produced by michael simon johnson to shore brad fisher is our engineer mr tobin is our executive producer samantha henin is alright a twelve under par theme music is by june bloomberg transfer of wonder special thanks to christopher word that it for the new washington accurate.

"How to say like senior editorial structure that comes down the editors do have conference calls than reporters have conference calls but when it comes to calling the shots i think reporters are alana would flee wedge just pursue things us they as they want to and i think i've certainly enjoyed that atmosphere wrecker i think charlie's acknowledging the fact which is widely known as that bannon is an extremely shrewd political operator and he or the exact would know that just giving a story to breitbart that was favorable to him might not necessarily get the outcome that ban and with what because people would and say off this is planted by bannon you know this in all this is all claptrap we don't need to pay attention so i think it's interesting the ban and became kind of ad an occasional source probably my guest is the way he is with other reporters in the white house and in that sense charlie was certainly brought more just like his peers in the briefing room you now have another white house correspondent um you're called on all the time at the briefings how do you i'm wondering how do you sort of keep up uh how do you remain anti establishment when you are more accepted into the dc establishment when you have any consideration when you have a white house that's more receptive to you and and you're not necessarily as much as an outside players you were in past years is is the swan now um and you know bannon was only able to live in swamp for so long before he left abruptly and is it's a story in washington this so unique like even though the president has representing a lot of our values he's running into an incredible amount of opposition with his agenda that which has surprised a lot of readers they kinda thought that if he won the presidency would make all these things happen everything would happen but yeah eh pretty quickly and certainly with the rush of executive orders there's always that high at the beginning of an administration that things are happening but yeah at this point it's never been more clear that.

"Or it's a car what about rubio now he's back in the senate after the presidential campaign even though he said he was not going to return which was a bit of a herkie jerky reversal what kind of a war is he playing in trump's washington and a congress that is a little mystified but how to deal with him i thought one of the really extraordinary things in this interview was where he acknowledged that as a senator running for president maybe he didn't do his job as good as he should have it's a really hurting moment where he said you now to be frank i'll tell him were time you know when you're when we just have more time the that would perhaps didn't have the last couple of years and i ran for president we were still doing our job in an but you can't be in two places at once sometimes and so he certainly said not that i wasn't doing my job but he says you know it's hard to be to places once i thought that that was actually quite candid the reason that it does feel very much like a serious concession is at throughout the presidential campaign that was to katif levelled against marco rubio that he was missing too many votes yeah he narrowly on doing his job quite sure because tax that's why the lord is do not like up i guess looking back in the rearview mirror he thinks maybe that criticism had some validity yet you know so now he's got some time and he's digging into some of this stuff.

"Then we can take the second step and tackle bigger have this isn't going to be easy at all and i'm not even sure it's possible michael because there has been no bipartisan approach on the affordable care act and first he has to get it through his committee and the committee that i chair with health education labour is committee is pretty interesting because it is diverse as rand paul the libertarian from kentucky bernie sanders elizabeth warren patty murray the senator from washington is uh the senior democrat so you got to bring those weather fight susan collins and lease murkowski or their tail so you can see that it might be difficult to do anything in the committee but we we do alive so you have to get the committee for then you have to get the senate and then if you get the senate and you have to get the house and i see that as being very very difficult there's much more resistance to any plan to prop up obamacare in the house than in the senate you know the conservative advocacy groups are going to be all over this they've already come after senator alexander they see this as an insurance company bail out and bailouts are bad politics so it's going to be a tough tough so it would seem to be a dramatic turnaround from as he as you just recalled where we were basically where the two parties wouldn't even look at each other over the subject so in is this a serious effort that alexander is yes is i think it's a serious rescue effort i do think that i don't know that he can succeed in it's nice to watch somebody tried to do this for once he has a another secret a relationship in the senate he's very close to mitch mcconnell their friends a man who if you goal though word bland.
