"On Twitter, is the Washington mystics at Atlanta dream, two teams who we just spent 30 minutes talking about and being excited about, we will get to see those teams face off in Atlanta, definitely want to see how those two match up against one another. I'm curious, Kyle, which one are you circling on the calendar here? I'm glad I'm glad you mentioned those. We've talked about those earlier. I definitely, I'm definitely catching those games. For sure. There's another one or two on here that I think or can't miss. One in particular, I really am excited about Friday nights. Late night matchup between the sparks and the storm. I think that's going to be a lot of fun. That's going to be on Amazon Prime at 10 p.m. eastern. These two teams, I think everybody's just trying to figure out who they are right now. We kind of know Seattle's big three. Are they truly going to push to be a contender? Los Angeles has looked like the best team in the league at times, and look like they're really going to struggle this season at times. And so I think that we're going to learn a lot of information about both of these teams. They're kind of that middle of the pack. Right now, that's kind of where both of them are sitting. Trying to see if one of them can separate themselves. Maybe take a step above and rise up over the other. I am excited about that one. Logan, do you have any others that you've got in mind? I've got one others, but another, but I want to hear what you think. There's one major one and then one that I'm morbidly curious about. The really important one is afternoon on ABC on Saturday. You've got a Phoenix team. Phoenix is two two. They've lost two games to Vegas and they've beat the storm both. So we don't know anything about them. I mean, that's not a good measuring stick. Yes. They beat a storm team that is kind of confusing this year and who they're very familiar with twice. And then they've lost twice to probably the best team in the league. So there's somewhere in there. We don't know. There's somewhere between Seattle and Las Vegas, which right now..

"I know Natasha clown is out, helping save protocols and then epiphany prints and Brianna Stewart too. I just hope that, you know, everyone's vaccinated and all that, but you know, when they're flying and everything, just hopefully everyone takes those precautions. I mean, I have that plastic shield that I got from the beauty supply store that I wear when I fly and just be safe. With everybody, not just because WNBA players are flying with you, but everyone else too. I mean, it's still a pandemic out there. So it's just a little scary. I guess, just to think that we felt like we were getting through it and, you know, making progress and then it just feels like, you know, two steps forward, one step, one step back right now with the pandemic. Wear a mask. It's not a hard folks. It's not that hard. I'm gonna get my second booster soon. I think I'm eligible. Yeah. I need to do that too. You're around a lot of people and my son's playing a, you basketball, and you know, it's like you're just in the gym and on planes, traveling with him and stuff, and so there was a lot. And then the arenas. It's a lot, you know, that you're supposed to, so I mean, better safe than sorry. And even if we've seen it, even if you're vaccinated, you can still be positive with COVID. It's really scary. So hopefully everyone's staying safe. And hopefully those young ladies who are in the health and safety protocols are back on the floor and healthy and ready to compete for the rest of the season. So unfortunate to hear that, especially for cloud here in D.C., you know, she was just coming off the mic drop game so what I call it. And took the mic from Roscoe and mule, just signed again for a ESPN song. Yeah. So, but just, you know, that momentum of that moment kind of had to, you know, shelf it for a week or two. So hopefully everyone's back and healthy soon. So yeah. That's my two cents. And on that note, we do want to mention the Britney grindr situation. The update today that her detention was extended in Russia by 30 days. I mean, this is kind of from my very limited understanding of how these things work. This is like to be expected, which is just sad and awful and terrible and we don't. The reason we put this at the end of the podcast because I can't really talk about it without becoming extremely uncomfortable and sad and kind of depressed about it. But the people that talk to her so that she's good all things considered. So at least there's that. This is become more of a hostage situation than I think was previously reported. It's being treated as that by the U.S. government. And there seems to at least be movement on the front of negotiation. So, you know, hopefully this moves forward. Again, we are not the people to ask about the situation because we talk about basketball and this is definitely something that is not basketball. I'm a lawyer, and this is definitely not something that we ever talked about in law school. So it's like, read the people who know what they're talking about. I think TJ Quinn, I believe, is the man from ESPN who's covering this. Follow him because he has kind of gotten the beat on this and been talking to people. So, you know, we don't know what's happening. It just thoughts and prayers are with BG, her family, the mercury, the WNBA family, just everyone we just hope you're staying in positive spirits and we're sending good vibes to BG and hopefully this is behind this sooner rather than later. I mean, the reminder of having her number and her name on every single home court, you know, it's just a small way to know that what the WNBA is doing is more than, right? I mean, we're more than we're more than being stuck over there and then for them to extend it. It's just really disheartening and it's like you said it's depressing. And it's really sad because we feel hopeless and powerless because we can't do anything to help get her here legally. And that's scary. To think of it that way. And I know her family or friends, teammates, all of us, fans. It's really, it's really been difficult that she's been over there for 85, 86 days. And it's really, it's really painful to think about. So definitely sending prayers well wishes and calming of spirits. I mean, that's really what it comes down to. And that's going to make me sad. Because I know just knowing that, you know, she had to leave the bubble because it was tough for her to be in that environment. And she's around people that she knows. So that's always what I think about, you know, everybody is different in that way and how they handle isolation. And when you're isolated with your teammates and that's tough. I mean, I'm just thinking of her to be isolated and environment where she has no one. Anyways. It's very tough. That's really hard. But definitely, yeah. Thanks to Kathy engelberg for keeping it in front of all of us. Thanks for family for, you know, allowing us to, you know, to love on BG and to really wish for everything good. Coming out of that horrible situation and scary situation. So yeah. So you can go ahead and send it off this time because of my employees. No, it's okay. I understand. Again, this is why we put it. We don't put this at the end because we don't feel like it's important. We put it at the end because it's very difficult to talk about and we don't we're not we're not people that have the answers. I'm not sure anyone does. So we just want her to be home and safe and we're wishing the best her family and our wife just graduated from law school. So congratulations on that. That's a difficult process. So getting through it is big and BG will be back to celebrate that soon enough. I'm sure of that. I'm sure BG will be back soon enough. So hopefully, you know, sending all the vibes and our fool hearts to BGs and their full hearts to all of you guys for listening. Again, hope you're saying sit healthy safe and then join the WNBA season..

"A Westbrook, it was originally reported that was a hardship contract that's not a hardship contract, such a rest of season deal. It's going to be there. And then they also brought MRI Jefferson on what I'm assuming is also a rest of your deal. If there's corrections for that, we will have them on her hoop steps dot com. So just go to the cap situation for each of the teams because we all actually know what that buyout was for makati. So I don't necessarily know how this all is going to affect their cap space, but it certainly affects their team in a big way. Because angel was supposed to be a big part of this. And I think one of the things that's happened is not only got hurt. Yes. And she's out and definitely doesn't really, it might be a month, it might be longer, it might be shorter. I think it's a soft muscle injury, which is the worst, so hoping for the best. And I think maybe they just needed space is like my explanation here is like, well, angel costs too much for us to bring in other people and angel doesn't quite look as like the player that she used to be. She may have something lined up. Maybe she goes, this is not sourced or anything. Maybe she goes back to Atlanta or something. It could happen. So angel didn't look quite like the player that she used to be and I think for Minnesota just turned out to be a situation where they needed that cat space. So that's like my generous explanation here. Do y'all explanation here is, I don't know what the heck Minnesota is doing. They release crystal dangerfield before the season. They really try and Davis. They have to do some of these moves because that's just the way the cookie crumbled. Right. These were not the way the cookie crumbled situations. I'm not sure if it's an overreaction. So that could be a reaction to how the team looked in the first three games. Maybe. Maybe this was just a reaction to the injuries. I don't know. Very difficult for me to make sense of this. All I know is that it is not good right now. No, you know, my first thought definitely was for Sylvia fouls. This is her final year. And so I just feel like it's going to be tougher, obviously. For her to do what she wants to do in her final WNBA professional season. But at the same time, it is a business and I think what you said makes sense. Just with angel's contract. But at the same time, you know, in reading angel statement, it was almost like she concurred with what you were saying about her not looking the same, but for me, I'm like, man, break a sweat. You know what I mean? Like, break a sweat, get some minutes under your belt, get back in rhythm, you know, in three games is such a, I mean, less than an appetizer sized opportunity. But I understand financially that is what it is. So there are some things we're not privy to. Understanding in terms of the business side of things. So we're not saying right wrong or otherwise, but just observing from what it looks like. And then hearing angels say, you know, I need to get my body better and condition. I need to take that time and I still have more to give to the game. So hearing her perspective, I thought really rounded it out for me that maybe she wasn't quite at peak performance level. And her contract was and they had to do some modifications because of that. So as tough as that is to do, which I mean, that's incredibly tough. And then to have, you know, three players sitting right there as assistant coaches, right? With Rebecca Brunson, Katie Smith, and clinic Pearson. They understand too, the business of it. And they understand, you know, the tough side of the business too. And I was just hard to read that. It was pretty shocking. Didn't see it coming at all. And my first knee jerk reaction with angel was like, she didn't get a chance. So you didn't get a chance to get right, you know? But again, you know, she, it's early enough in the season. We're hopefully she can land somewhere and give the game all she has. That's what she said. She's like, I want to give this game all I have. I want to, you know, I still have more to give. So with that approach, I'm sure someone will take a chance on her because there's so much movement right now that I think this has been the most movement at this juncture and just feels like it. Or maybe it's just the names of the movement. There are a lot of players that have been shuffled and moved. No, I agree with you. I think this has been, this has been more movement. I mean, it's tough because there's a lot like every year there's a lot of people coming in and out from obviously, but I'm with you. I think this is just a little, it feels a.

"And then what we saw from the aces may not be as real if that makes sense. That's fair? I think that's fair. I think that's fair. I mean, when you're, when you're breaking it down, I mean, you don't want to say excuses. So I appreciate you saying. But it is, you know, reality, and it is part of what happened with them, but also at halftime the mystics kind of shored up their defense. And, you know, really got more focused on the game plan and so it's probably a little bit of both. So it's not just one or the other thing, but I think it's a little bit of both things. I agree. I agree. All right, I got nothing else on the mystics at the moment. I mean, we're obviously going to talk about the mystics all the time, because that's a team we both cover here in the DMV. Right. Anything else you want to mention about the mystics? Yeah, just that that's Shakira and Kate Benson situation. Mike TiVo said something really funny and we'll probably share it on air tonight too because it was great. But he said, after the game, he came in and he said, hey Shakira, Katie told me that she was fine taking care of herself. He didn't need to do that. And I was like, and Katie was like, wait a minute. So that's the kind of vibe, you know? They have a real good connection. A really good connection and, you know, they're just fun people to be around. And my team said that verbatim. Like, they're just fun people. And when you can joke like that and say things and get a laugh, you know, that's what's all about. Yeah, no, I said, I told Katie after the game like, oh, you outscored Asia Wilson. Alicia, Alicia park goes, yeah. Like from behind me, it just started yelling. I was like, yes. The vibes on this team. Yes. Are there. You know, I want to compare this team too much to that 2019 team. But it is kind of that vibe. They feel very together, very, very close. So look, we also should mention, let's not get ahead of ourselves because I feel like we've done this for a while, like the mystics look good. And we're like, oh, and this player comes back and this book comes back and it's going to be healthy. And they're going to win the championship. It's like, this is good. This is great. Yeah. Let's keep it in front of us. Elena looks great. I think she's going to be hell. It looks good. It looks good. I just don't want to. I want to drink. I want to get too excited because I know we're prone to do that with them this. Oh, and Kennedy Burke also as a player who the misters are waiting on, and Elizabeth Williams, and now Natasha cloud. So I think they said that with Clark coming back today, they were going to let go of Stephanie Jones. Okay. So because she was the last one that they signed. So she would have to be the first one to go. But I don't know if that's happening. Yes, that just happened. Looking across the across the timeline here says the Washington release Stephanie Jones. Also, just to save Curtis, the having to say this all the time on Twitter, if you're watching this on whatever. A hardship contract gets released because the person does not have to go through wages. If you're on another type of contract rest of the season, standard, whatever. You have to be waived because you have to go through waivers, which is a four 8 hour process where team can claim your contract. So that's the difference in verbiage. He's just brought that up a ton of times. Him and Richard Cohen always bring up the little minutia like that. So just so you're a lawyer, you know that, too, though. Yeah, I just don't I don't really care. This is basketball. The way it goes. I have a bigger problem. There's like someone like miss diagnosing and play, which I do all the time. I'm like, oh, this is a twist. No, it's not. Or this is a twirl. That gave me wrong. So that's kind of ruby Jim makes me mad. But regardless, we digress into talking about real basketball. You want to get onto the links? Yeah. Because there's a lot to unpack with them and wow, right? Yeah. You can start actually, 'cause I'm still marinating on the whole situation. Okay, let's tell people what happened first off. And then we'll chime in. Okay, so the Minnesota links in Sylvia files last year. They started off tough, I forget what they're last game was. It was not good. They lost. Right? They are zero and three. Yeah, they lost to the fever. Shouts to the fever. One 6th of the way to Christie's prediction that they would have 6 by the all star break. And the fever, they're pretty good. There are tough. They're a little bit more ready that I thought they'd be. Boom, now. Okay, well, we'll debate that. We'll debate it. We'll debate it. We'll debate it. But back to the Lake. So they lose that game to fever their own three. It's been tough, obviously. But they responded by buying out Andrew McConnell's contract. And waving, Odyssey Sims, where they picked up right before the season, angel bakata was a big free agent signing it in the off season. And then they signed.

"There's a ton of little guards across basketball and they know all the little tricks to get to get steals and all that. So I think Ruiz just a huge part of what this team is doing. Trying to think of who else we need to talk about because Shakira has been up and down, but I think she's been pretty good. What have you seen from The Rookie so far? I think she is, she's really getting more and more comfortable, every practice, every game we were at the practice yesterday. And she just seems to she knows the challenge that's in front of her. And she's not afraid of it, right? She knows that they're going to be up and down, you know, you know, everybody, not just rookies, but in particular, rookies, right? So I think she has embraced that. She's not looking for a perfection, and I'm thinking anyone else is either with her, but what you do see from her is the will to get better and kind of go through that adversity as a rookie. And not cower away from it. Not like get frustrated by like, oh man, this is fast, or oh man, I thought I had that play or thought I had that block or that rebound or whatever. You know, she's going to go for it. And I appreciate that, you know, from her and just that will to compete. And not just on the court against opponents, but compete for minutes. She's competing for minutes and practice. She's going hard. I mean, there are no plays off with her. Offensively or defensively. So I'm just really pleasantly surprised. And it's really hard, especially as a post player, I think, who was used to getting the ball out. And I think my Tebow said this as well. Like, you know, the ball went through her. I think she had 30% usage at old miss. So she was getting a lot of touches, the offenses were running through her. And now with the mystic, she's a screen setter. And your touch may be offensive less. You know, go get the rebound. But they went to her a couple of times directly, but I just think, you know, it's not the same kind of vibe. Like you're not maybe the third or fourth option. Right. And defensively, you got to have more than just two or three pick and roll coverage. You might have to have 5 or 6. So that's a huge adjustment both sides, but you have to think faster. It's not when people say, oh, the game is quicker. Sometimes you just think, like, quicker as in, like, how fast can you sprint from baseline to baseline? That's not really what that means. It means you've got to be thinking quickly. On the floor and it's got to be precise. Like you can think about it, and you've got to execute it. Like, you know what to do, but you've got a split second to get it done. And that's what the speed of the game is when people say, oh, the speed is different on the professional level. It's the thought process that's the difference. No, I agree with everything you said. I think the one thing a couple things for her that are big is like, like you said, not getting discouraged by not getting as many touches. Not getting discouraged when she gets beat on defensively. I think she's just a player who kind of just keeps it moving. Like I'm not whatever. Last player we're going to deal with that when I watch the tape and I'll get better from that later. But she's not going to sit there and say, oh, poor me. I got beat on this, you know, I ran the wrong coverage or I didn't get the ball on this possession or whatever, whatever. Like she's just going to keep it moving, which I think is huge for a rookie. I think she has a great mentality for a rookie. Also, she likes to mix it up. She's a talker. She's going to stand up for her teammates, like at the end of that aces game, the Erica hamby kind of kind of gave Katie Benson a little extra on a foul. And then Shakira was right there. In her face, you know, try to protect her teammate. After the gauge, it has to be like, hey, what does that thing with him? She's like, hey, and I know beef sheet. She threw down my teammate. I had to go protect my teammate. And I was like, that's awesome. That's exactly what you want. You want to have the fire. You want to have that edge. I think she has that. She has the right mentality. And then I think that the game is going to come to her. I think she's going to be, you know, I think by the end of this season, we're going to see a different player. So I'm really impressed with the mystics overall. Obviously, we didn't mention my issue shines out and she's been great. A dog Tiana Hawkins also huge for this team. Hasn't played that many minutes yet, but she's getting going and she's just been huge in terms of connecting the offense, hitting shots, doing all those little things. And obviously I mentioned earlier Atkins, but I think she's going to take, I'm still the one thing I'll say. Let me know if you agree with this. For Ariel Atkins is she talked a lot about in the off season getting to the rim. Right. More. She hasn't quite done that. You know, I want to see her just kind of push her head down like I almost rather her get a charge. Run over somebody. Just do it. Not to injure anybody, but just like just because to get to the rim, and the aces game, she had a couple possessions where I was like, okay, her eyes were downhill and her intention was downhill. And then that forced defense to move around and she was able to get those passes I was talking about. And I was just like, that's what I want. That's why I want to see more. It's like, maybe you're not getting shots at the rim, but your intention is to go to the rim and then your defense has to adjust to that rather than those pull out shots where she's kind of shooting off balance. And she's great at them, but getting downhill will be huge. Do you think am I right there or my off base? Yeah, no, I think, you know, the spacing that the mystics have in their offense. I think that really does afford opportunities to do that, but it's all predicated upon how defense is playing and you know that next level. I think obviously she can get by probably her first defender like her primary defender. But it's that next line, but like you said, she's a great crafty passer as well. So when that second line does commit, she's able to still make plays. So I think, you know, we're going to probably see more of that come from her. And her attack of the paint and to get in there and not just for scoring capabilities for herself, but scoring capabilities for the team as well. Yeah, and the last thing I want to mention on this we're mainly talking about the mystic spaces game, the mystics Minnesota game. We'll talk about the links in just a second. We're going to put that off to the side. And then they're opening one. Who they play? Oh, Indiana, Indiana, which is a large area. We may have to talk about in this podcast. No, but in the aces game, like I just wanted to mention that the aces did have to travel like 12 hours or something. There was some sort of like crazy travel, which always happens when there's a mystic spaces game. Something's going to go wrong. When the mystic plenty aces. So maybe we shouldn't take that much from it. For ehler team, just like the travel does affect your stamina, I think it affected the aces a lot in that second half. I think, you know, to a certain extent, I think you can view it as an excuse for the aces or not an excuse just like a reason why something's happened, but I also think like what we saw from the mystics was real. And then what we saw from the aces may not be as real if that makes sense. That's fair? I think that's fair. I think that's fair. I mean,.

"Your Washington mystics are Washington mystics. Deep Washington mistakes are three and O to start the season. In spite of a lot of adverse situations. It's been very impressive. Also, I want to say, on this podcast, my team is the Miami Heat. I just want to make the very clear. That's why I'm wearing my, I got my pink and my blues kind of vice colors. The heater, these crouch files for a second time in three years, Bernie's really happy. Dwyane Wade, it's really happy. So just wanted to clarify that here I'm objective about WNBA, but the NBA, it's all about the heat. But the mystics have been wildly impressive. It's been awesome to watch up close. I mean, you're calling all the games. So we get to see this in live action and it's been just wonderful. And before we get into the mystics though, just like make sure you're subscribed here on the YouTube channel, make sure you're subscribed on your podcast apps. You follow us on Twitter, our names might pop up. I'm still not, I'm not entirely sure how I'm doing that, but it's okay. They just look below the names will be there, follow out her hoops, that's a follow spread underscore the floor. That's our betting platform. We have a YouTube channel too. So do all that stuff. But most importantly, we got to do is be paying attention in Washington, 'cause they've been unbelievable. Just like general reaction to what's happened in these first three games for them. I think it's cultural. I think that this team, they're all in the same page. They have all bought into being defensive minded. When they veer off of that focus, they can come back to it right away and you saw that in the game against Las Vegas when they were down by 13 at halftime. And then, you know, we were asking, hey, what was the magic sauce and halftime? What did you say? What was the flip of the switch, et cetera and it basically boiled down to, hey, we need to follow the game plan. That's what my Tebow said. That's what he told us. Hey, we were off of that. And against Las Vegas, they have, you know, two left handed starters, two right handed starters and one that can use both pretty well. So they were trying to force their those players to use their non dominant hand and they didn't see that in the first half. And the second half, they saw more of that. They kept hand me off the glass a little bit better, no second chance opportunities. And they turned Vegas over. I believe it was 16 turnovers turned into 19 points. And that was the biggest difference of the game. And you know, you really seem to maturation of ri machida, but also Katie benzen as we are saying now, Ben sanity. Bennett. Carter is a little bit smarter a little, The New Yorker was his name was manziel. Chess Jeremy Lin. There you go. Yeah, shout out to you. But it was, yeah, that's Alicia Clark coined that for Katie Benson, who Mike thibault said, hey, if we had space on the roster, she would definitely have a permanent spot. So that is high praise for coming in late to training camp and then sticking. And not only sticking, but having 12 points or, you know, in a game against Las Vegas and I just really playing with some high level confidence. So it was really fun to see. But I think at the end of the day, the defensive pride on that side of the court, I think, has been the biggest difference in this three game win streak to start the season. Yeah, and so we got to talk about Katy panzani. So Katie, Katie, is a favorite of the courtside for the entire time we've been doing this podcast. Episode 75, by the way. Oh my gosh. I know. Oh, cheers to that. We'll have to do something for episode 100 whenever that's going to be. Definitely. I'll be probably towards the end of the season. But we'll do something. But with Katie, I mean, I think she's a symptom of what you're talking about. That culture of this team, the idea that everyone's going to step up and just do their job. And I think, you know, like you mentioned, Katie did come in late. And I asked Mike Tebow, did you ever did you see this happening? She scored 12 points against the Las Vegas aces, which was more than the Asia Wilson and Chelsea gray combined. A lot of noise right there. That's statistic, but that's not a race. But it's like, that's a really cool thing that she's going to be able to say forever, but I think, you know, one of the other quotes that guy about Katie, I think, shows that cultural aspect of the mystics was said that one day she came into training camp on the first day like Katie was signed and Elena has to get their super early to get her body ready. There's a lot of training stuff. So she's there pretty much the first person in the building last person to leave. That's not just Elena. That's like both for her rehab and just the type of leader that she is, right? Right. And she said that when she got there, there was someone bouncing the ball and shooting in the gym. And she was like, what's happening? And I just kept going and kept going and kept going, finally she went out there and she looked, and it was Katie Benson. And she was concerned that Katie Benson was going to shoot her arm off. Before her first WNBA practice and it just like that type of person is exactly the type of person that the mystics want and it's a type of people that they have. That's sort of every team works really hard. I don't want to diminish what everyone else does. I just think that sort of culture of getting yourself better every single day, putting in that work putting in those extra hours, putting in those times where you feel like you're going to shoot your arm off, right? That's what this succeeds off out, and it comes from, it comes from Katie Benson, and it comes from a doll Donna comes from Natasha cloud. And comes from Alicia Clark. So yeah, I mean, three and O to start the season with Natasha cloud missing a game. Elena doll done missing game. Alicia Clark has yet to play all she's going to play a night against the Dallas wings, which is so exciting. It just looks like Elizabeth Williams is still in Europe playing. So this team is going to get better in talent wise. And maybe that means Katie's not around, but I think Katie's going to stick around in, like you're saying, she's going to be around for this team for a while, I think, and I think she's just a symptom of everything we've talked about. And to get into more of the basketball stuff, defensively, the thing I've seen the most is Elena delle donne is bouncy, right? Am I just like wishful thinking here, but she looks bouncier, she looks more explosive on defense, her rim protection was huge. She won the post battle, Asia Wilson. Which crazy for the best part of the world just her defense was so impressive. Did you see that too? Absolutely. And it was the timing and the positioning, defensive way down in the paint that I really was disruptive to Asia Wilson or maybe I had two MVP caliber players Elena has two of them. Wilson got one down the bubble MVPs and the lead. So you have some really staunch competitors when you're talking about those two, but I thought obviously with Washington winning that Della Don had the edge in that matchup. But I know, you know, Asia Wilson blocked the landing down. If you're watching this and you're a Vegas fan, it's like, well, she blocked on shots. She did. She did. And she's supposed to do that. Like, who she is..

"Of this team starts here and it's going to be interesting to see if Della Don can reclaim her role as one of the most consistent star scorers in the league. When she's out there healthy, she's going to play 30 minutes and get you 20 points. I mean, that's the baseline, Elena delle donne experience is she can't be stopped. She's steady as they come. Everyone around her, I really like Alicia Clark. I really like Natasha cloud. I think Ariel Atkins at 25 still probably has a little bit left of her potential Aisha Hines Allen is also just 25, they have some interesting players, but this season's gonna be tough for teams that are only interesting because there's a lot of teams that are already really great. Absolutely. I want them to emerge. I think it's more likely they get a little bit lost at the bottom of the standings. I think I can definitely see that this Washington mystics team for me, well, let's just talk about a couple of the players that they've added. Since last season. Obviously, we mentioned it multiple times. Dela Don, and Alicia Clark, both coming back from injuries. They're going to be around. They also bring in Elizabeth Williams, who's been playing the last several seasons down in Atlanta. And I think Elizabeth Williams is kind of an underrated big. I think that she's the type of player that can come in and actually do pretty well in replacing some of that production that we saw from Tina Charles and MME Simon in years past. I think that she can maybe not be quite that same level as those two players because those are like MVP finals, MVP type of players. I don't know if she's quite to that level, but I think she serviceable in that role and being able to take some of that some of that off of de Leon and Heinz Allen and some of the other bigs. And they also brought in a friend in a pretty decent draft pick. They got Shakira Austin, which I know that coach Tebow was really stoked on. She's also another big out of Mississippi out of old miss. She's projected all across the board to be that number three pick and that's exactly what Washington did with it. And then they even have gone and brought, if any of you watched Olympic basketball last year, you all should know ruin machida out of Japan. Because she is absolutely phenomenal. Very undersized. She's going to look really small on a WNBA court however she's lightning quick and from all that I've heard. She's been able to adapt pretty quickly to this to the WNBA style and speed and whatnot. So excited to see if she ends up making some impact there. Logan, do you think that some of these players that they brought in are going to be enough to really make the Washington mystics the type of team that their fans are hoping them to be? It depends on how well they're managing fan expectations. That's a really nice way to say it. I don't think this year, I don't think this is going to be the year, but I also don't know if they're necessarily building for this year. I think they're building for next year. And is small sample size, but watching brewing and cheating in the Olympics was phenomenal. I am if you're looking for any one thing to be excited about this Washington team in ten seconds or less, pay attention to what she does the season because if she gets on the floor, I think that could be really fun. But more than that, I think you want to establish yourself as just a team that free agents want to come play for in 2023 because.

"D.C.? No. Of course not. I agree with the word epic because a lot of times epics and kind of tragically, but not without some adventure first. No, I actually, I'm really excited about the mystics this year. I think it's going to be a tough year to be a borderline team, because as we've mentioned, there's going to be so many good rosters that have played together for so many years that want to win a championship this year. But the mystics of one of the best players on the planet probably returning and they've got a plan, agreed Alicia Clark, I can not wait. I'm an Alicia Clark fanboy. I'll just throw that out there. But I like where you took it, so I'm going to follow you there. She was tweeting out there today that she's just, she's been playing 5 on 5, and her teammates and people are just playing against a reacting, oh, I think she's back. Okay. Let's go more than maybe she was before. Yes. Which we're all, I think that matters. So the mystics team that we've kind of been like waiting to see if they would peek out of the bushes the last couple of years like, are you in there? You're injured, you're overseas, and like, all right, just put the season that's fine. I think they might make an appearance this year. And that's gonna make it a lot more fun to watch. I agree. Washington finished last season in 2021 as the number 9 seed just missing out on the playoffs with the record of 12 and 20. They finished the last ten games with a record of four and 6. Terrible, but exactly the kind of ending that you would expect from a team that was in the back third of the league. So Washington just barely missing the playoffs. One game out, one win away from making a playoff appearance. However, I do think that there's some context that needs to be made. If you are new to the league and you don't know what's gone on with the Washington mystics, here's the 32nd reader's digest version. The Washington mystics for a couple of years had been absolutely loaded with talent, some big time names. Most of you will be most familiar with Elena delle donne. Who's kind of one of the faces of the league faces of Nike basketball just across the fantastic player. But she's not alone. There's been a lot of other players. That have added to this team. That following that championship season, heading into obviously a crazy 2020 bubble year and then a 2021 season where so many of their top players went down with major injuries. Washington has taken a couple major steps back that seem to mostly have been out of their control. Alicia Clark have both battled injuries, MME swimming with a lot of overseas commitments. They've had all kinds of issues with just getting their roster, which on paper looks so good, but getting them on the basketball court together has been an absolute nightmare for the mystics for an office. Hopefully, with 18 fingers crossed, as many fingers crossed as you can possibly imagine. This roster is back and they are healthy, which means we might actually get to see what their potential truly is. So that's kind of the long and short of the last couple, the last couple seasons of the Washington mystics. We haven't said things like that for other teams, but for Washington in particular, it's really important that you understand context when we go to talk about this team in particular. Logan, speaking of the Washington mystics, the last couple seasons with Della Don out have had a couple player step up and be a big time front court presence. Last season, obviously Tina Charles filling in that major role, but last season on a secondary note and the season before as well. My Asha Hines Allen definitely stepped up and had some fantastic seasons. Do you think that that's going to be really effective for Washington moving forward? Having getting her and some of these other players better experience where under normal circumstances they may not have had that opportunity. Yeah, it definitely helps develop those other players and it's not the way that you would prefer to develop players, but it is a way to get players in the game and get them playing time. I really do think a lot of this season for Washington hinges still on their star. If dilla Don's not out there, they're probably at risk of being lost in the shuffle again, much like last year. They also no longer have Tina Charles leading the team in points and rebounds every night, which Charles was a monster last year. Yes. And I think her absence, I don't think they've really solved that, I don't think this season is really, this season they planned on solving that. But you use a player like Charles who even during their back breaking stretch in the middle of the season, like the bookend a couple games around the Olympic break especially. Charles was going for 25 plus a night at ten and they were losing every game. I mean, they just couldn't get wins. They were playing against a lot of good teams in a row, but just they could never put it together in a lot of it was I think they were putting too much on Charles shoulders and now she's gone. So the new generation.

Logan, we have, I think maybe one of the most interesting teams to talk about, the Washington mystics in 2020 and 2021 have kind of well, honestly, for the last three seasons, it has been an absolute epic of just all over the board for this Washington mystics franchise. Going from champions to missing the playoffs. Losing franchise favorites and picking up other ones and then losing those ones within a year. It has been just bonkers for the Washington mystics. It has been a roller coaster ride for every mystics fan for the last three seasons. Are we going to finally get some sense of normalcy back in Washington,.

"A little bit more together. It's a more cohesive styling in the ACC. But anyway, the Big Ten, the big 12, it's like these teams are just wildly different in everything they wanted to do. So I think it's really difficult to game plan in these conferences. I applaud the coaches, but I do love it just like what you're saying that watching watching the fights, the styles at the style of clashes that are happening. Do you want to get some games on the schedule for this weekend? Absolutely. Okay. I have a theory. Just go. Okay. Just kidding. Humor me. So I'm calling this Saturday. Okay. I mean, sorry, the Sunday, 'cause there's games on Saturday that fall into this category. Right. This Sunday false spring Sunday. We live in the district. It's getting a little warm, right? It's getting warm and it's February. It's weird. It's a false spring. We will get back to cold. I'm sure I'm sure we'll get back to cold soon. It's a false spring and that's why this weekend's fall spring something because we're going to find out who's blooming into a contender. All right, in which teams are going to be stuck in winter. Come march. You like that? I love that. The groundhog ish. I toyed with calling it Groundhog Day, but I want to be a little different. I like to different. But yeah, so we got Georgia, South Carolina. I'm not putting anything on Georgia. Anyone who has to play South Carolina, I feel bad for you guys. I'm sorry. But we have Michigan, northwestern, back to the Big Ten. We're going to figure out exactly how good Michigan is. And how good north question is because I think north questions probably a tournament team at the moment, right? And they have a chance to really solidify that resume against Michigan and I don't see a reason why they couldn't win. Right. We also have Vanderbilt Tennessee, Tennessee needs to get back to their winning ways and Vanderbilt has pulled off some upsets or un upset this year. So that's totally possible. We have Virginia tech North Carolina battling for spots on the ACC, whoever was probably has the inside lane to getting a higher seat in the tournament. And NCAA Notre-Dame Louisville, Notre-Dame coming off that big upset of NC state, looking to take on Louisville, duke NC state, Arizona state, Arizona, Colorado, Stanford, LSU, Texas a and M, Oregon state organ, all these teams really hoping to say we are contenders. Make sure you have us in your top 5 seats for the NCA tournament in your bracketology this weekend. So any of those games really, really interesting to you? Oh man, you rattled off a ton of them, but I would tell you what. I am all for a great Big Ten battle and Michigan northwestern. I think that, you know, with the tournament starting in three weeks, I think, well, maybe a month, but I'm pushing it. So I have three weeks and a little bit of change. Three weeks and some change. I think it's always intriguing this last month of conference play. But I think, you know, with Michigan coming off that big win, sometimes it's tough, you know, that next game, you know, come back and bring that same moxie so that I think that's going to be a big test for them. Especially against a team like northwestern with their blizzard defense that they're going to be trying to be disruptive and they rotate quickly. They're right there up the line and Burton and her quick hands. Come on man. That's going to be a great challenge. And who knows if Leah Brown is back? Yeah. For that game, so I think that's gonna be something to keep eyes on, but I mean, throughout the ACC, I think, also, there's some really great games. I mean, I love that matchup with Virginia tech and North Carolina. I think that's going to be a really I love Kenny Brooks. You know, even when he was at James Madison and what he did there, winning championship after championship in the CAA. I think that that's going to be a true test, especially, but I know we're not talking about. North Carolina, that big one. They're the big win over blank. Last weekend. Over redacted. We're not mentioning the score, certainly. Oh, I was quite surprised. But do you want to go look at the Miami North Carolina game on your own time? We're not talking about it. We're not going to talk about it. But I kind of ran down the road to that end on that one. But it was the story and it just happened to be their previous matchup. Sorry. Yeah, so I like those matchups off the top. And I know there's so many games this weekend that are going to be fantastic, match up. So I know in the big east on Sunday, I know Yukon takes on marquette. I think that's going to be a big game too. And I'll be on that game with Lisa Bryant by the way. Oh, really? That's why that's going to be a good game. In a lot of ways, 'cause I miss Lisa. She's with the Milwaukee Bucks now, so I miss working with her, so fun to get back. We get Lisa. We get Lisa back for a game. That's great. He said. Yay. That'd be fun. I'm excited. We also have the Red River, I guess we don't call it the river Rashida anymore. But I'm call it rubber Rashida, Oklahoma and Texas on Saturday. There's big games throughout the week I just want to name a name a Sunday because I think it's fun. But yeah, no, I think that I'm with you on the Virginia tech, North Carolina game. I wrote a story on Virginia tech. Earlier this year, I'm really high on Elizabeth kitley. I think Asia shepherd is a WNBA player. I think they're going to face a big, big test in North Carolina with that defense, especially if North Carolina can score the way they did in their previous game against an unknown opponent. Redacted, redacted opponent. I'm kind of interested in this Arizona state. Arizona game. You know, Arizona state. First off, rivalry game. Second off, it's going to be what day is that the 11th? Okay, so it's going to be the second one of a back to back with these two teams. So they're going to be familiar with each other. And Arizona state just pulled off a big upset of Oregon. And then Oregon state as well. So, look, I'm just saying, that'll be a fun game if it's close, and I think it will be and then LG tucks in also going to be a frisky good game. So just your Sunday.

Sports Strike Against Racism

"This summer athletes have taken the lead by using their platforms to stand up against police brutality. The WNBA, has consistently protested throughout the year with numerous players even sitting the season out and on August twenty, six, twenty, twenty, four years after Colin Kaepernick began his anthem protests something historic happened athletes across the board streit and refuse to play today we're discussing reactions to this incredible moment in sports. This is the not. On August Twenty Third Jacob Blake was shot seven times in the back by police in Kenosha Wisconsin where we're calling this episode on. August twenty seven twenty twenty the day after the Milwaukee Bucks and players from the NBA WNBA NFL. Major League Baseball Major League soccer and tennis champion Naomi Osaka all refused to play or practice in an unprecedented strike in response to the shooting of Jacob Blake the NBA postponed the playoffs for two days. The first time that games have been postponed in this manner since Bill Russell led a strike in one, thousand, nine, hundred, sixty, one after a day of deliberation players in the. NBA. Playoff Games pending further action. You're excited I. Know You're excited for sports to return obviously, this season has been one of a kind and unprecedented in. So many ways I want to know how do you feel now the players are using their platform in this way to be honest I feel this very strange sense of excitement. I need some really tragic kind of set of circumstances but I have been feeling conflicted after NBA Games kind. Came back I had been motivated by occurrences like kyrie irving standing in solidarity with Wnba players saying like Oh actually, I'll pay your salary. If you don't feel like you can play whether it's you know a reaction to corona virus or your desire to protest how support seeing. Lebron Kinda start almost every post game interview with a demand to arrest the cops that killed Brianna. Taylor. That made me really happy Siamese. Floor of the same energy that we have tours. Justice for Briana told, even seeing black lives matter on jerseys and in the court kind of made me feel a little better. I realized yesterday that this was the inspiration really been waiting for but now I'm wondering what comes next of course, how were you reacting to everything? You know I'm not like the world's biggest sports fan I do. I am a fan of black women and so seeing the WNBA protests. Throughout this year, but especially, the summer that felt released significant. Still I've always hesitant to look to athletes during these like highly political moments just because it's not the job that they set out to do. But you know as I started to see people sharing statements aerial Atkins from the Washington mystics we're going to say, well, we need to say and people need to hear that. They don't support us I'm fine with that. At the end of the day I'm GonNa make them good anywhere that I have to it basketball. It's not. Just what it is Chris Weber's telecast if not now when Not doing a pandemic. and. Countless lives being lost if not now when that is me in tears so lucid in that moment and so real and also just seeing how so many other sports leagues join them in protests were. Teased. Happen I mean it just shows. The hate people's heart. The thing is though is that as we were starting to develop this episode today so much has changed already in that the players in the NBA have agreed to return to playing the playoff season. Later, this week I don't think that all the progress is gone but I'm wondering what what happens. Now you know thought that same whiplash like I said, I felt like this was finally the type of inspiration leadership that I've been hoping to see from such a wide body players. Leaks, cross-border. It was truly abused beautiful, and I think now we need to do more I'm hoping that that since this is now on the table, players can put more pressure on owners to. Work with the people they are most connected to some of the richest and most powerful people in this nation are in the speed dial of most NBA owners even just the day if feels effective part of I, think resuming the season was the players putting pressure on the NBA to address the social unrest we've been dealing with all summer in some ways. So they started a foundation that's dedicated to investing in black causes. They're giving hundreds of millions of dollars they've given like you know the players, some approved protest phrases that they can use. They can put black lives matter on the courts and things like that and what I liked about this moment is at the NBA players were like that's what I usually do. And that's actually still not enough. So I'm hoping that we can see continued forward motion in that way something that I enjoy in this moment was seeing the NBA take the WNBA's league they have been holding it down all your curves pressing in. So many ways the thing is, is that WNBA, players, they don't make as much money as NBA players do they have really put their necks out there for social justice speaking up. Protecting black lives in many ways, it seems in some ways that they have more to lose by doing it. You know I am maybe two degrees below cautiously optimistic. That is a lot better than cynical, which is where I was before.

"Train rich Walberg. The running of the wieners is not feasible. But he's talking about Weiner dogs. Wiener dogs, right, But so October I guess I guess Octoberfest will be like a virtual thing like everything else is everything is virtual. So what's new in sports is virtual. Sometimes. Is there any sports? Well, Willie this morning with Mike McConnell? I thought I was reading school closings for Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky. The only thing that went on last night was one soccer game in the MLS and three NHL games, and apparently, the NHL players are all bent out of shape. Because the NHL didn't didn't jump on the bandwagon with baseball, nb a tennis hockey anything that they didn't you know, they didn't jump on the bandwagon to postpone games. But they did have a ceremony in the one game that kind of show unity. But that was about it. That's it. They didn't know prior to the puck. Dropping that boycotting was an option. So it was some of the some of the players were like outraged at the NHL didn't do anything but the end games or postpone tonight, but the playoffs will continue. Thank God player said that we're gonna keep playing God. And then, of course, last night, the WN Ba will. He also canceled their games. And the Washington Mystics players came out. They wore shirts with seven bloody dots on the back to represent the seven gunshots that police officers fired into Jacob Blake..

It's Hot Out West: Interview with Seattle Storm's Jordin Canada

"What's going on WB Fans Meg mcpeek I am so happy to be joined by our guest Jordan Canada. She is one of the up and coming superstars in the WMBA. She obviously plays for the Seattle storm coming off a win and you know without introducing her I've got to talk about some of the accolades because you can't mention Jordan Canada and not talk about defense in this league. Here's a two, thousand, nine, hundred, wnba. All defensive first team one, she's a WNBA champion with the Seattle Storm Two thousand eighteen sweeping the Washington mystics open. Guess what she was drafted number five overall by Seattle and I think my favorite fun fact about Jordan is the fact that you are the first. Woman. First Woman in PAC twelve conference history to score eighteen hundred points. Record seven hundred assists in you joined one of the best to ever do it in Gary Payton. In I. I. think that is probably the coolest thing as well. I don't know about you. I'm so excited to have you on the show first off. Happy Belated Twenty Fifth Birthday. How was it? In the bubble. Thank. You obviously, it was quite different. I didn't really get to do much. So I had practice and then I came back and I kinda just chilled That's pretty much I can do is I've been inside the bubble but I've. Sydney gifts my parents sent me a little birthday cake and some edible arrangements. So I got to celebrate just That's amazing. I'm a big fan of the edible arrangements myself. So I am super jealous about that and you mention you know being limited on what you can do in the bubble how is life going in the bubble and? To that point what has been your favorite thing to do not hoops related. The honest we come and don't have much here. We have a pool at the legacy hotel, which is right right up. The street you can save because we're all in villa. So we have a pool that we can go to I. Know they have like early morning golf lessons. and that's pretty much it. That's all we have So for the most part I mean, if you're with your teammates hanger with team You. Aims walking by because we're all in the same areas. Say hello to each other and speak to you know speech our friends and that's pretty much a practice and you come back to your villa. You'd relax and chill we go to games I'm. Really all that we have are you try to make the most of it I? Mean I'm very simple. So it doesn't bother me as much I'm such an introvert. I'm a homebody. So mostly in my room, some of most time just watching TV and stuff. So it's been fine in the beginning of a little bit rough I know something. Terrible living conditions would it where they were saying and stuff but I never had a problem with it but it's been much better You know we've only been here a little over a month. So it's getting better and I think we're just getting used to the conditions of the environment. I'm so happy I actually have something in common with Jordan Canada I am very introverted as well and homebody. So it's good to know if I was in the bubble I would be able to survive with like you said the Gulf I'd be able to hit up. So that'd be pretty cool and it's always fun to relax outside at the pool when you have an off day. So I, know when things being in the bubble and the season being much different than what you're accustomed to. Of course, the news before heading down to a Bradenton geared kloppenburg would be filling in again for coached in Hughes just because of the health concerns with his previous health and cove nineteen how has the team been in contact with coach hugues while being in the bubble? How have you all and coach Kloppenburg still managed to integrate coach us into the day to day of the season. I mean, well, we kind of had a little bit of of that last year when our coaches out when need. Your cancer in remission stuff so. We kinda had. A few games in the season without him and we kinda had to, you know do without him and adjust, but he's always been very active and engaged with us. He I know he talked to the coaching staff allow he does takes me call me from time to time just to talk and catch up I. Don't know about the other players but yet he's just been very engaging in still keeping contact i. know the coaches do a good job of You know talk to him and him incorporating things that he sees while he's. Just, something that he wants us to do Argos very that in. So having a coach Klopp no, be the interim goes like he's had experienced last year being you know in position than he's done a great job and you know we also have like sue bird who's technically light a coach he knows that they're helping. US as well. So we have a lot of help but I know that you know we we really do Miss Dan and I know he's cheering us on from home and you know work continuing to pray for him after thought. So it's it's been a good experience at amazing and it's as if you have done this media before because we me Perfectly with mentioning sue bird and for fans that may not be aware two, thousand nineteen with sue being out with her injury. You were basically thrust in your second season into the starting role and leading this team from the point guard position and being a vocal leader at such a young age in your career. Can you tell us just how that adjustment was? Last season and dealing with that, and even if you know as you mentioned is basically an extra coach with the team on the floor now that you've got her back in the lineup, how how was that transition for you and what advice did she give you throughout last season? It was it was It was tough. I would say there was a lot of ups and downs during that season. It's very hard coming from and you're you know one of the star players on the team you're playing a lot of minutes and you come into a team that's fully stagnant at the see. Find Yourself and my rookie year I had a hard time finding my role I was very up and down I, kind of lost a little bit of my confidence. So it was it was a hard adjustment and then going overseas having to be thrust back into a starting position than have to you know get that leadership back in that confidence bag. So I think that really helped a lot going into two thousand, nineteen season I mean obviously, I didn't expect to be out but because. I was prepared and I gained a little bit my confidence back. I was able to just we know set Ryan in. Obviously there have been subscription ups and downs during that season and trying to learn as I go but sue was a big help. I mean the the best advice that she gave me was don't worry about trying to fill my shoes in in trying to be like me just play your game I know once I came into the league, everyone was talking about Oh. Jordan and ensue in is Jordan going to be able to about up to sue in an expectations and so she told me not to worry about that lying just go out inches player game two point guards, two different types of styles. But what I bring to the table is very important to the team, and so I keep that in mind last year and just trying to play my game and not. The. You know the outside noise and just Do What my team needed to do and I kinda, you know gained a lot of confidence in that and incoming in this season and having Birdie back. I mean like I? Say We're two different point guards in two different styles and if you've watched this play the season, you can kinda tell the difference of when I committed in when she's in. So it's just great to see that you know we're able to play together and you know still Kinda or me keep up the pace with the team when I'm coming in and not have a a low or did. when sue comes out so it's just been awesome experience so far she's been a tremendous help and in my growth all around. How important was that advice that she gave you of reminding you don't try to be me be yourself like how how integral was that inner growth especially, you mentioned now having her back. was very helpful I mean coming into it team like I said I was fully back in playing behind one of the. Honestly. The best point guards ever played the game I mean, that's kind of like nerve wracking and still you have your own expectations like I don't want to screw I don't. WanNa. Come in to a team as police tag playing behind the best point guard ever and you know fail I. Mean there's some of the things I not to think about my rookie year in having her tell me that especially a veteran who's been as game for so long you know she didn't have to tell me that she didn't have to step aside and say, Hey, like don't worry player game don't worry about outside noise expectations just just play your game in big about the team and you which you need to do to to get us to where we are and so to have that advice as such. Early stage in my career was is extremely helpful and it has helped me at times. I think about those times she says that it just calmed down because I know there's been times in the season last year this year where I get super rattle and try to do too much in that think about. That, like calmed down, relaxing, get back to who I am as a player. So to have that to have that advice as A. Data Mark Career is a blessing in Zomba's very thing for

WNBA Final Series Game 5

"Fans we've got a great show for you a lot to talk about Lot to talk about including this amazing Wnba finals series that we're getting right ahead to a game five that's right I haven't heard day five between the Washington mystics in the Connecticut Spun will take place Thursday eight PM. ESPN two series has shifted back to Washington each team has one on each other's home court so that really has it been a factor we'll talk about that we're also going to talk about the drama in La a lot going on there so recent comments by the NBA Players Association I don't know if she CEO President one of those Michelle Roberts has sparked a lot of conversation we'll get into that and I'm yeah whatever else we've talked about well first of all DEB I just want to ask you because we covered allow last podcast you weren't here you didn't even get to number one address your Vegas team that you picked to win the championship and why they're not here you're in all the drama with Liz us you didn't even get to comment on that would you care. Is there anything you want to address from the semi finals the Erica shot like you just totally have been absent I really have let's see I for one I still oh dear dinner for her shot and keeping alive just long enough to make it past y'all teams you tell picked the beginning of the season so at the end of the day really taking her to dinner Garretta when you're in Chicago let me know I got you love the list trash talk that you know it's really exciting really being what would the weight room thing do for us you were on the other team like Oh yeah I it was a I think it was poor timing however I live for stuff like that so I've had I was thoroughly enjoying the comments because I am the Queen's trash talking so I enjoyed it I don't think it was the property the time that that fire DC up to be honest Yeah I I don't think it was the right time for it but I mean I like the trash talking I mean I I'm pretty sure didn't Natasha Clouds Day she guarantees the wind Thursday I'm here for all of his arms well let me just say this real quick like honestly not tweeted this yesterday this is just a little prayer by listening we're going to get into the hardcore seven-minute but this trash talkers the thing has started to get a little bit I tweeted this because I think I heard Jasmine Thomas in what was it Oh yes the game the presser after game four she was like you know people were thinking we're GonNa roll over like basically responding to a question about the get to the championship and I'm like who still saying stuff about Connecticut like I am all for the disrespect campaign because I think it's fueled their players is fire them up uh I'm just speaking of someone who would played on the other team like I'm a little bit over like Courtney Williams saying I get any shot I want to like if I'm your teammate I'm like dude food chill with that because the game three she actually didn't get every shot she wanted to you know what I mean like you gotTa be real careful about the trash-talk stuff because you said you can fire team up I think Connecticut completely fired up about things that people were saying July like please resurrected if that's we do but I don't think anyone has really questioned in being a championship contender in at least the last month and a half now the way they've done it yes I mean did I think La was win again yeah but I just don't know there's just so much I don't know about that now the role player comment that came out was definitely ember that was not in July and when you look at the national coverage if you will about who decidedly was supposed to win aw nobody picked Connecticut I know here espn all of our analysts who decided to make a prediction predicted that it would be Washington so I don't think the deal would that's that's very listen that's still very relevant that people pick Washington because we have a game by like that you have won anything yet you know what I'm saying like I don't know I don't think I picked La to make it. I Don I bic La to make it past Connecticut so but no but they didn't know that Ah I mean I think as a player as a as a player I think that you don't say that out loud you may say it on the court and you may talk to you you know like the teams but saying it you know in the media is always smart 'cause they just give you know like fuel to the other team I think you have to be smart with your trash talking but as a fan I'm enjoying it so much more exciting so I'm I'm here for it I just feel bad that jasmine had to arrest that at this point like they've already won two games in the finals or going to a game five she's still talking about people thinking that they were GonNa roll over like I seen that but I get what you're saying about the role players commentary go which okay that's fine but they've been doing a lot more out here than that it's brilliant it's entertaining I just get worried we're people start doing too much happened because I know what that does the other team you know what I mean like Liz campaigns now knows what that does to the other team like you just need to you need to stay humble because it was dying to Rasi they had to shut Courtney Williams down two years in a row because she got a little bit out of pocket and I love Corny I've covered her since her US days I think she is great for the game I'm loving all the coverage of her and her dad is like dream dad right like he is down he is like supporters aw I'm all here for this to be real careful in this league honey because people never forgets no and you're gonna hear about it later so they better back then yeah you sure will and with that let's talk about let's go into our first quarter so we can talk about something and I'm Connecticut WanNa forget this quarter An- that is game three they wanNA forget that because they latorre L- game three on on Sun a Sunday so just like a quick recap on that so that we can get into what was a phenomenal game for Connecticut Lost Ninety four eighty one on Sunday they look like a very different team I'm just the game before John Clo- Jones had a stellar performance thirty two and eighteen but Sunday came around the MVP returned for one. Washington didn't really look I thought she looked stiff personally didn't think that she moved very well but it Kinda didn't matter she still finished with thirteen points six board she's still played twenty six minutes and whether you've got her for ten percent or one hundred percent you still got a garter you still got to worry about her she's still going to impact Act anybody that is going to have to face her so with that Connecticut was looking at a losing home court or had lost court advantage heading in to gain four they were down in the series two one but last night was a tale of two teams they started the game out firing on cylinders I mean they put together quite a first half performance on they led by as much as eighteen points they were up fifty six to forty at the half and so four we go into the second half of of how that game turned out I'm right after the halftime I'm sorry right before Halftime me Williams actually stopped for a moment to chat with our Holly Rowe and she spoke a little bit about why her team was so energized etiquette game five Thursday Courtney Williams doing her best to make that happen holly according to your defensive commitment is completely different tonight why did you change what did I tell you gotTa Win I you know I was a little bit off last game all back against the wall can't take no plays off you already got more is confidence and guess what she has the game back it up 'cause she doesn't need a screen she don't need anybody step up and do anything for her she could go get shots what she wants them now I thought we were talking about three looks like we're talking about gay four now yeah we're not gonNA spend too much time on game three that's because one we are limited on our time on this podcast right now and number two because Connecticut Connecticut Fan so we're moving fast at eight Dave I'll let you start which you think I thought in game force initially I mean Connecticut had great energy and you clearly saw that this was a deciding game and they do that and that's how they came out and they came out ready and but I also felt like DC they didn't look like themselves in the first half they're known for moving the ball really well in and getting good shots making the right pass and it felt like in the first half they were playing hon of one on one and not moving like they do in making extra passes and it showed because they weren't getting shot and when you're playing a team Connecticut who's great in transition you have to be able to put the ball in the basket and slow them down so I felt like you know Connecticut was able to really do what they wanted to do in the first half but then being a vet- team DC came back out in the second half and just knew what they have to do in turn the tables and we're able to

Good morning, so Christie, tolliver ease a player and a coach as a player she makes a normal WNBA salary as a coach she's earning next to nothing ten thousand dollars a year. How did that happen? Well, it happened in part because progress has exceeded what the collective bargaining agreement between the players and the WNBA allow for. So the last collective bargaining agreement called for players to be able to be paid up to fifty thousand dollars as a team for off-season work now that offseason work by definition did not include coaching because at that time. There were not coaches or WNBA players. So she came up against a very simple issue. Which is that fifty thousand dollars was the max stature be paid to all the players for off-season working forty thousand of that had already been promised to her Mr. teammate Elena Dell dot so we've got a talented woman coach, and she can't make more than ten thousand dollars a year did Christie tolliver or the wizards tried to fight this because as you lay out in your story. It is really galling. It just seems wildly unfair. That is precisely it galling and unfair. And yes, they they both tried to fight it and the wizards to their credit tried to do. So as well. In your piece, you spoke to Kristie tolliver, and she seemed frustrated, but she also seemed pretty optimistic. What was your impression of her as a player as a coach is a person I've covered Christie for a long time. She's one of the British people that you didn't meet in any profession. So I wasn't surprised about it. I also think there's been an ethos in women's basketball and really women's sports as a whole that there's an effort to trailblazers today. So that tomorrow's battles are a little bit easier to fight. We're don't even have to be fought at all. And I think that may play a part in it, even though Christie tolliver is only one person in this situation. This is likely to come up in a new contract negotiation that this is a very unfair set of circumstances. It will definitely come up on the players association is very committed to this. And for the league is an opportunity to have a significant number of talented basketball, minds coaches. Well, so it's an extra influx of talent. So it really is something that both sides have a financial interest in get himself. Could this have happened with a male player who also wanted to coach say you've got a talented point guard and he says in the off season I wanna co coach women's team. Would he be in the same situation where there is a cap on how much he could be paid as a coach? The short answer is nothing like that with a car. The cap is much higher than fifty thousand dollars on the men's side. The money is significantly different as a whole in the NBA. And as a result. It simply wouldn't be something that would be punitive for an NBA player who is tempted to do that Howard McDonnell is the editor of high post hoops, which is a site dedicated to women's basketball and.
