"You have to listen a swell be happy to have any kind of listener we can get. He had 11 minutes after five. What are the ones the Buck's games that at noon on Saturday Saturday night? Saturday night. Saturday night just after eight o'clock, Okay? And that's the Washington Football Club team, But they might be the club that's actually in the running for the future. They might actually keep it as the Washington Football Club. Soccer teams do that, And this isn't Yeah, that's I don't like that football, but I mean, there's so many names you're gonna have in the capital. And I remember when they were talking about it. We got suggestions and everything. And mine was the Washington senators, which is what Your baseball team used to be called many, many years ago. Anything's better than club. I don't know anything about sports, and I don't like that. Yeah, that's not fun. Well, it's dumb. It's like, Well, we're too stupid to come up with a name and we are too. Politically correct to allow them to be called the Redskins. My goodness, and as a former cheerleader, I would not want to be let go, clubs go. Clubs don't even know what that makes Sense. E talk to Jean Decker off yesterday, a natural and he said hello to you, Jack. And he said if I want to sit down with him for a couple hours, actually days, he could tell me all the stories I want to hear about you. We had some incredible trips during the days of the Tampa Bay bandits that I feel that for guys like Jean Decker off who've been calling calling games for how long And how long has he been calling on the R word? You know, just because that was the name of the team, And then you have to, You know, change. You have to train retrain your mind. The Washington Club is down here. That's when I got him and gig is the my life. You've heard that before the god of Mr Gig of the Voice of the Buccaneers because I'd first worked with him. Of course he did. Florida State football and I first worked with him when he was voice. Of the bandits. And I was on the broadcast team and then later with the Buccaneers as well but with him, But when I went toe Q 105 Two years in 86. I got fired here ended up a cue one of five for a couple of years. They ended up with the ball games with the Buck's games. And they were trying to figure out who they were going to get to be the voice of the Bucks and I said Brand Jean Decker off a guy's fantastic and his voice lit up when I brought you a ball cracker back wacky Jack when this whole thing was amazing, for he did some incredible party and when we're traveling with a bandit And I think I might have kept him out of jail had a little and there was in in the city. It's the home of the Washington football Club to know clubs go club clothes, nine Iron Washington clubs, but it would just be the weird thing about this is it wouldn't be clubs, right? They want to be the Washington football club. Like at least the Tigers like the type of the tires on the football team, are they that was embarrassed. You're doing really well okay? Buccaneers are buccaneers. Hmm. Yes, it will get there. It's 5 14. Yeah, Okay, so they're all asked, but they want to be the club so it would just be like, go club like it's just one club Football club. If we educate kids with its very own. Oh, yeah, It's crazy, at least with the except that with the Vipers we could do like weird hissing noises is the things they should let me join their committee. I feel like I could come up with a better I bet you could. But first gonna learn the football team's the names of them even football. Yes, that was a great title to the Vipers. I like that one got a Viper's T shirt still had his hands. There's no club that was also a ride at Busch Gardens that went away, so I mean, I can add some knowledge there. Maybe that was the python. See? I think.

"I can just imagine being you know, on a team with Alex Smith and just you know what he's done. I think you know a lot of this confidence. That that that the Washington football Club has eyes because of Alex Smith him coming back, and I think they've won What? Three in a row with him start now and I mean, it's as a player. I mean, you kind of look up to that. I mean, because because you know, football's a tough sport and to come back from from injury like that, that that just kind of goes through the whole locker room and everyone gets inspired by it, And he's a professional. I mean, he acted, he carries himself that way. On and you know I'm a fan of him. And just just because I'm not because of the injury just because the way he carries himself and you know this. This is a tough sport, and he could have went ah, whole different way after the whole hardball thing. He kept your professional and he moved on, and he moved on to Kansas City, and he had a good career in Kansas City. Then Mahomes comes and you know, he just kind of miles out. And you know there was there was no backlash. You know, it was just like, all right. My time here is gone. He went on to Washington. Before he got hurt. He was playing pretty well. And now look at him now. Yeah, he is. He's an impressive guy, and I think most people today want to see Alex do well or Alex certainly stay healthy, all those kind of things that they want the $4 to win. But he's a classy guy helped back from homes in Kansas City helped Colin Kaepernick here. That's just what he's done. And then he's back on the field. We saw a lot of us saw the documentary If he had to go back and see it on ESPN. It's a miraculously That Alex Smith even survive, let alone playing and playing well. And as you said the Washington football team now under his guidance offensively, have done really, really well. The last few games, all right, Greg Cosell is great, and he was on With T K B in the afternoon. We'll let you hear some of the things he said about Alex Smith about the 40 Niners about coming back after the loss to the Bills. Great Cosell 41 years an NFL films does a great job of the matchup show on ESPN. We'll hear from him coming up. Next is we get ready for the watching football team in the 40 Niners from Arizona..

"Colorado's only orthopedic hospital and part of Sentara help so interesting stuff on concussions boy that that shut on Andy Dalton. That that was huge in the most telling thing, and Mike McCarthy, Mike McCarthy, the The cowboy's head coach, reference this after the game. That that kind of shot. Should have started a huge brawl. Yeah, I was like, Why didn't you let your quarterback get blasted like that? Not one cowboy player. Did anything with respect to the for the Washington football Club. It was so telling watching that I'm like, Where is everybody and the McCarthy? Talked about it after the game. Not a good sign for the Cowboys. Who's there? The quarterback DEA. They got 1/7 round draft pick Can Zeke I don't even know his name way. I have to look up his name so they'll have to pick somebody up today. Obviously. I would imagine that that to me and again, we're not. We're not doctors. But that kind of hit depending on Andy Dalton's reaction this week that could be more than a week and he was blasted. Yeah, that looks real bad. Lindsay's wasn't It wasn't quite that bad. They should have thrown a penalty flag on it. I thought that was helmet to helmet hit. They didn't They didn't throw a penalty on it. Hey, was never out. His doctor Schneider mentioned. He got up, walked off the field went into the tent. They checked them out, took him out of the game. But in your day, Dave, you're going back in the game on Lindsay's hit. Well that Yeah, because that's just what we did. Don't make this any tougher than these guys today. It just means that that's I mean, if you if you came to so to speak, and you had the ammonia capsule under the nose and how many fingers am I holding up? You know, you just sort of shook it off and went back in. That's that's the issue. That's where football I think has, you know has really stepped up and made improvements for these players, Larry We welcome Larry to Caylee NewsRadio morning, Larry. Hey, Good morning, Dave. How are you? Good. They were wondering if you're going to say hi to me. Hi, Larry. Yeah, I'll never forget you erect. Thank you. Larry. Just can't think sometimes, right? Well, he got mad at me. So I understand if you forget me. Well, I forgot. I forgot all about that, Okay? I know Cathy scars. He's holding it till you see me, Larry. No. Well, okay, well swelling question. My question is is that I was watchin the Pittsburgh and Tennessee game yesterday. And I noticed that there was a female referee in the game and I was like, Wow, you know, I'm all for that. And I'm kind of glad that NFL finally It's something like that. And I was one in which your dices thoughts are on that. Yeah, I don't I don't know if there was a female referee, but there was a female official, right? I think that's what you're saying. And yeah, there are. There are I'm not even sure how many handful I believe. And I think if I'm fine with that, I think if if somebody is is up to the task, and ah Has been properly trained and understands the game and is capable off. You know, monitoring his or her position based on you know what they were asked to do? Absolutely. Why? Why would they not? You know why would they not be allowed to do that? So I think I think we've seen and I'm trying to think the year and Larry. Thanks a lot for the call of the year that we first had Female official in the National Football League. It's been Um it's been a handful plus of years, I think right more than a handful. Yeah, I I think it's great. You and I are both girl dads. You know, I want women to have every opportunity. Why not? I think I haven't noticed that they've Made any huge gaps or Are doing a good job. We could probably doing a great job. You agree. Jackie Fort Collins joins us on cable news Radio Morning, Jack. Morning. How are you guys doing Good. Eh? I'm just talking about the concussion stuff in high school boy. I had a pretty bad concussion. I want in for double team tackle on. I was playing both sides of the ball and collided with one of my own teammates on the tackle and got my bell rung and And it was like instant amnesia. I didn't know what in the world was going on. I didn't come off the field and so I got right up after the place, So the trainer's never saw anything and In the huddle quarterback in the mike linebacker, make the call from the sideline and I'd be running into the line of scrimmage and I'd ask my teammate OK, What do I do? I completely forgot the entire playbook after the hit And it was like Jason Bourne, effectively making audibles from the safety position. And I was like, what? What is that? And then my muscle memory would take over. It would happen, and then I like, Whoa, what the hell's going on? And and I I remember just few things from the game. And I'm going into the locker room at halftime and the trainer look looking at me and I'm being all weird and I'm sitting out the rest of the game..

"He only got hit once he either slid or went out of bounds All the other time. There's an art to being able to run without exposing yourself to significance. Pain. Yes. Oh, and by the way, There was somebody screaming. Take that this morning and I don't know that it was capital was Aaron Rodgers. Like. How about Aaron Rodgers is on the F You tour is what he's on to all your people. They thought I couldn't play And it started in Minnesota, where he threw for four touchdowns in 364 yards on 32 of 44 passes. Well, I thought it was stupid when I saw him like is the seventh rated quarterback in the NFL. Like even last year, his numbers weren't terrible. I know he still wasn't Like primary Rogers. But come on. People rode off Aaron Rodgers way too quickly. But I thought the Packers would get beaten, though, but I still think Aaron Rodgers is really good. That's why I want him to be the Bears quarterback in a year to good luck with that the Seahawks beat the Falcons 38 25. That's Seahawks team travels. They're well coached. Ross is great. I mean, that's just that's an enviable, boring completions. The whole game was like 31 of 35. I mean Russ was was sick. He was 31. You're right. 31 35 for 3 20 to 4 touchdowns and no interceptions on the hotel, and he he he gets ample credit. But I don't think he gets even with that said he's a better player than I think Most people have never gotten in envy people. I know which is the second best player in the National Football League. I think you make a case for that. By the way. Did you see some of the throws that that Lamar Jackson was making were black and I and a doll and I were watching some of just the flick throws side arms for touchdowns. The Ravens did with the Ravens always do when they open the season. They're coming out hot 38 6 over the Browns and Baker Mayfield. Lamar Jackson was 20 of 25 for 275 yards and three touchdowns and had plenty of yards on the ground. I think you're there. You're Super Bowl pick right Super Bowl when they looking good coach, and they got the quarterback. Yeah, you can keep these browns Anybody wants them. You keep Brody Parky today of thumbs up to Ron Rivera and the Washington Football Club, his his first game. As their head coach. I believe you had to get an I V at the half, right? And they they win that game. 27 to 17 over the Eagles. Irani tip of the cap. They were down. What 17 to nothing. Yes, Yes, they were. That's that's you know, that's Ron Rivera. Strong, right? The Jags upset the Colts 27 20. Did you see the numbers? Of Garner mention 19 of 20 for 173 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Yeah, pretty good. Wait for the wrong Jaguar. Quick on that. No. Yeah, we got the Bears of the Giant's next week. They should be beatable. Atlanta lost to Seattle. The Colts lost to the Jaguars. "A lot to start off with a year on this Friday evening. Wow. Washington football team 2020 is crazy. Sam. Let me ask Producer Tom. You hanging out there. Of course you are. Yeah, I'm here. Can you really like it when you really think we're in August? We just Crossed over into August. And I'm thinking about what Just came out of my mouth. I called the former Redskins. You know if you told me if you said if you said, Hey, it's February. And then you said, Oh, well, I'm just, you know, in eight months, the team is going to be called the Washington football team. Hell, no, I would not have believed you. Not at all. I'd be like what the what the hell happened in eight months, and then it's imagining and you just say you went back in time. And you just You had a conversation with yourself from eight months from now and just tap yourself. One shoulder said Sit down. Let me tell you what's gonna happen. And let me tell you why this is gonna happen. That's the type we have lived in a year and we've lived in the past. Let's really think about this. It's been five months. Let me see if I could do math. March, April May, June. July. We've lived in five months. That in a lot of our lifetimes have turned upside down. For people who are not just in the 20 start ease, but people in their forties 50 60 70 80 that we're living in a space that a lot of people have never every living person he has never had to deal with. And I keep tripping up on DH, saying the name even though I was one of the people who didn't think the name is appropriate for quite a while, it's funny going all the way back to launch one of our shows that launch the network back in 2013 John Feinstein was already calling it the what? He was based in D. C. Already calling at the Washington football team all the way back then. And again, it just seems like something that was never actually going to come to pass. And you're right. If I went back to my January self and explain to him that you know a global pandemic was going to hit. It was going to be timed up with an incident that created a social awareness movement the likes of which we haven't seen in 50 years. And then this was going to be combined with all kinds of actual Action now granted changing names and corporate action might not be the kind of action that the movement is necessarily pushing for it, But it is still action and I can't believe we're calling it the Washington football team and I even have a take on this too. I like it. I like Washington football team. That's it. I know everybody's acting like it's a placeholder, and there's something else coming and I know that there is something else coming. There will door and there's this is a genius marketing moment to for them because they can sell Murch and jerseys in this in between, and then resell you more stuff when they pick a logo. So Dan Snyder is not going to miss that opportunity to understand that, but I like and maybe it comes from watching soccer and, like, you know, FC Barcelona or gloves. I like just Washington FT. Washington Football Club, and it let it serve as a reminder of the reason why that name stands that way. I'm not. I'm not against that at all. I certainly Ah, wasn't a fan of the name. I just I just thought that it would never change and, you know, Ah, lot of people thought things would never change. And you know, change is inevitable. It's what it is. You know whether we see change and no matter what you're looking for what you're looking at whether it comes in our lifetime, whether it comes in the next generation's lifetime. If there's one thing you can count on As this is, this is this rock spins around the sun. It is that change is inevitable. You can try to delay it. You can try to hold off on it. You can try to alter it. Things, things change. It's just It's just the life cycle of living things. That's just what it is. Got the phone lines going. Let's go ahead, Rob. Is Brooks kept going to take homos third consecutive Wanamaker Trophy Or will someone else step up to take their place in history? The PGA Championship Live. Coming up on CBS. Don't miss. It's going to be a great great time. Let me a great great time really looking forward to it so excited, so excited with sports being back so excited that the positive people meet every single week on this show. People who believe that who believed all along that sports was going to come back. A gentleman from San Francisco here saying, John, you tend to aggravate me as much as entertained me. Is that a positive, Kevin? Is that a positive that I tend to aggravate him as much as entertaining. It tells you that he's listening. Very closely. DEA. Yes, that's good. OK, He does say this, though. I would yell to my radio that you were wrong. I was yelling at my radio that you were wrong in March. I even sent you an email. I don't remember it. But Ah, I may have I yelled at you at the radio that you were wrong in April. And wrong in May. That you were giving people false hope. I'm here to admit I was wrong. I was wrong. I bought into all the negative messaging. And he admits he was wrong and I sent him a really nice little note back. And he said thank you for taking the time to write. And guess what I said. Keep listening to my show. I'm going to be wrong about a lot of things. But I refuse to be one of those people in the sports media who was just believing the gloom and the doom. Oh, we can never do this. We can't come back. Say goodbye to sports. Still 2021. This is terrible. My God. Unbelievable. How do you people get? How do you go out? How do you step out the door each day or don't you? Based on how you get up in the morning. Hey, cap in the morning. I like the idea that you exist. So many scary things in the world. Exist. I lost one of my best friends on Monday. And I told you about him last Sunday. And I told you that he was going to hospice and, ah I got off the plane Monday in Vegas from our flight from Atlanta. We get off the plane. And I'd gotten word that he had passed. And So The cocktail was raised on Monday in Vegas, a place that Nick loved. And those who got to know this gentleman Nick, Man, Tio loved them uniformly loved him. And I know. Everybody's lives are different with him out of it. And I just left because I even go to his Facebook page. And it is I think his Facebook message was life is good. Big picture him like yelling like he's like, like, Yeah, Life is good. And that was Nick. I get off playing the need and he had passed and because of Corona virus and everything like that, I wouldn't have been able to see him in hospice or anything. And It's just I don't understand people who get out of bed in the morning and one a Embrace the negative embrace. The bad embraced the negative messaging that don't that aren't smart enough to realize that there They want us. They want to send a constant state of turmoil. They want to send a constant state of negativity. Because that's what sells. That's their business model. And by the way again, it goes to both sides of the political spectrum. It goes to both any they want you in a constant state of fear, Turmoil, anger. That's the sales pitch. Rest in peace to one of my the most beautiful people that I've ever known. Two. To the end was life is good. You know what? Life is good, and I'm going to miss him. I'm going to really miss him. Seba from North Carolina. She's a ray of fresh air, you know, should be a ray of sunshine, not array of fresh air. She'd be a breath of fresh air, and she joins us here on the John King. Well, I'm going great year the breath of fresh air so well matched together on Sunday mornings they go. It's list Arena. It's not really It's just blistering. I am a list serene purple. I remember that thing people used to say, I mean, but you need blistering, not assist the whole bottle. I'm dating myself. Hey, So, what do you think about My Redskins Washington Football Club. What's that Washington Football Club or Washington football team? It's Washington football came to Debbie FT. People say it is Get it. Oh, yes, Here's what I So why? Why is anybody Why would you rush? To make a decision. That you weren't that you weren't sure of. And you wanted to make sure you did it right. I am never going to rip. I am never going to rip a business and organization otherwise for not rushing to do something when they could take the time to make sure that it's done right. Right. And you know what? I don't have any problem with it temporarily been Washington football team or whatever. I don't have any problem with that. Here's the deal. The Florio's of the world and the Peter King. You can't stand the Redskins. You know, Call them racist. So whatever, Yes, really is an insult the racism because there's a lot of racism that you know that could be going on this really serious. This isn't one of them because we honor you know, we honor them, And I think that I am a Redskin. I claimed that myself one because I've been one since I was five years old, and I'm back, But that's another argument. But what I'm saying is, they're making us get rid of the name. Fine. It's gone. Don't then make us Get a name. We can be doing Racine. We could be the only way we could just be the skin. You don't have the right to make us pick another name, because what they're trying to do is rip us of our dignity. We got rid of the name. Now stop it. Well, don't you know? Don't tell me. I can't wear my stuff. Well, samba. Here's another one. Don't you know? And you mentioned Peter King and Mike Florio. Two guys, that I I've respected their work over the years, but they're the perfect example of what I talked about earlier. If you want to know why the negative Cancel culture. Ah, politics obsessed people are go to their Twitter feeds. See how quickly they get into politics on a daily basis and then file see who they follow on Twitter and you'll know you'll know their ideology. You'll know their agenda and you know exactly what it is, and that's what it's all about. It's about sewing negativity. It's about sewing because they wake up every day obsessed Obsessed with politics obsessed with whatever it is, and by the way, there are people on the other side of the aisle that are obsessed the same way this read this this controversy of the Washington Redskins name. It's very 2020 It's very 2020. But guess what? I have no problem with people being offended by it. I have no problem. People defending it. I have no problem with the discourse going on. Washington. Take the time and get it right. Take some day, right? You take your time with one more thing. You say Which weapon? We've talked about this plenty of times. You must take politics out of sports is an escape, And that doesn't mean I want to avoid talking about the issues and that's not a code. For any kind of thing. I just want to relax. And not argue during that song tells something tells me you're not racist. Sometimes I don't think I am that got everybody fairly. And if everybody does, that the whole country will be solved. Yeah, but it's a long way from that. We're going to get into more of that coming up because I think it's a nice thanks for your call. Appreciate it. There's nothing there's nothing to be gained. "If you're going to find a nickname for your team, so the cracking Not sounded pretty interesting and OK, the kids will like it and that got washed away quickly because The Washington Redskins. They announced their new name change, and they they said they were going to do this week and 1/2 ago, and I even said this yesterday before the news came out, and I go What are they going to announce this? I haven't heard anything. Maybe they just called themselves the Washington football Club. That's what I said yesterday. I was sort of joking, and then it comes out. It's the Washington football team. And it reminded me of the Abbott and Costello, who's on first skipped the team, formally known as the Redskins will be called the Washington football team for now. And I guess you could understand why they'd simplify because you know players reporting this week. They've got to put something on their helmets. Apparently, they're just going to put a number up there instead of, you know any kind of logo. But also you get the sense There's some defiance by that owner. He didn't want to do this. Okay, I'll do it, but I'm gonna do it on my time frame. The team actually is going to make a lot of money with this new look and it's a lot cleaner looking, which makes you wonder why they resisted for so long. But Like anything in sports. The move will look a whole lot better. If the team is good. They've got a name. There's still a lot of work left to do in Washington. Like win, but I was told last night by a source. Who lives in D. C and I said, Hey, give me an idea here of Daniel Snyder's timeframe and that he came up with this Washington football team, and my source said to be fair to the Redskins, he said. Wow. I'm rarely fair to the Redskins because they don't deserve it. This is a situation where to try to turn this around. Get a logo. Get everything printed up. Have merchandise. You know, that could be a 6 to 8 months month progress process. But he did say my source. This is also a situation where this team has known for quite some time. They should be in the exploratory process of finding their nickname. And then what of the logo is going to look like? And trademarking this they didn't trademark anything. Everything was trademarked, and they didn't have a nickname that they could go with. Now. The Golden State Warriors. I think our trademarking warriors because they were concerned that Washington was going to do warriors. But I still think if you're going to do something, if your Washington when you do this, you want to have a nickname that begins with the letter R. Therefore, Daniel Snyder can still keep that script are in the logo. Of Washington's football team, But we'll talk to Ron Rivera, who seems to be the spokesperson Ron Rivera just got there six months ago, and he has to be the spokesperson. Now we did ask for Daniel Snyder. You know, I'm grateful that the Washington Redskins did give us you know Ron Rivera, who just got there. And I said, it's a shame that he's the spokesperson for the team because he has nothing to do with this environment. There's nothing to do with this nickname. He just took over the team. It's tough enough. To win in the NFL. Now you go into this situation there. But Ron Rivera will join us coming up, Make love and you gotta pull question for me today. Okay? If you're a Washington football team fan, do you go ahead and buy the current new kind of generic jersey? Or do you wait to see if there's a New jersey in the future? I'd buy it. Now you're gonna have your your hard core your fan base That's going to stay and they're always going to call their team. The Redskins. They're just going, Teo, and they're going to wear that merchandise. But if you're a fan, and you want something that's unique, and it's maybe it's the one year on ly that you have it. Then you go. It depends on how much you you know. You literally buy into this team. How much you want to invest in this team? But if you love that team now, you might say there's no way I'm going to buy any merchandise that has to do with a new nickname. But if you want a novelty item, it's a novelty items and I was joking when I said it yesterday like the I thought they were going to act like they were Ahh Soccer club, The Washington Football Club. And then it came out the Washington football team. So Paula goes a Washington has a new nickname Washington football team, and I go. What is it? He goes Washington football team. And he said, What is it? He goes? No. That's the nickname there. The Washington football team so they're known as the team. Yeah, It's like Vegas. L What's the team name yet? The team's name is what? No, it's the team. The team is called the team, you know, like you go for days. Well, what else do you have a club? By the way, do you like the uniform? That was fun with? I like it better okay? Yes. Okay. I thought was really cool to you. Don't you like simple kind of Alabama? Penn State. I got Todd. Wow, it's a couple of shots. 12 minutes and 35 seconds. Yes, we have a couple of baseball pulls off last night. I'd liketo overreact. You know if I give you either the Dodgers or the Yankees make the World Series or neither make the World Series. Which would you which would you bet? They're the heavy, heavy favorite. I would bet that both make it Or what? You're even had that both I'd say you get one of the other. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Take that. Yeah. I mean, you know you're you're why it was such a bizarre day yesterday. You know, we had the Seattle crack in Washington football team, and then he had opening night in baseball. We didn't know how many playoff teams that we're going to be just Toronto have a home yet. I just but it's the new crazy. I'm not going to say it's the new normal. It's the new crazy And then you start the game. No fanfare whatsoever. Doctor found she throws out the first pitch. There's no noise there and all of a sudden the game starts. You've got a great pitching matchup like it was just strange and I'm watching. I watched. All of that means five innings because of rain shortened game with the Nationals in the Yankees, which is hilarious started like lightning, so the the shortened season and then a shortened game to start the shortened season I thought was, you know that was a proposal? But you had that game and then the Dodgers Clayton Kershaw get scratched. And then all of a sudden the Dodgers trot out dust in May Now, if you're a.

Is This The NFL's #MeToo Moment?
"Can you give us a sense of the build up to the publication of this report? So there's been a lot of drama swirling around the Washington football team, but suddenly started to get all of these dots that you could start connecting. There's a lot going on within the front office. That really doesn't add up firings in retirement in July in the NFL. Rarely happening tonight. We're! And we're too high level personnel executives who were abruptly fired and Alex Santos in Richard. Man were fire. No reason was given as to why they were fired. Then today, longtime radio announcer for the Washington football club Larry Michael announcing his retirement, he spent sixteen years with the team, the man who had been there the radio voice, he abruptly retired without any sort of official comment from the team, and he started to hear this buzz rumors flying about a potential bombshell report on Washington's football team and owner Dan Snyder. This is absolutely taken over social media with speculation running rampant then by Thursday afternoon. The Washington Post dropped the story. There fifteen women who went on the record, alleging widespread sexual harassment within the Washington football organization that spanned just about Daniel Snyder entire time that he is owned the team, so these were women who works across the organization in marketing and ticketing and finance in there were also two female reporters, one who formerly covered the team for the Washington Times and Rianne and Walker our colleague from the athletic, who also went on the record to accuse one of the men who had? had been fired of sexual harassment as well. It was the sprawling account as you mentioned fifteen women accusing sexual harassment in Washington. Can you summarize some of those accusations? Yes, so it was a lot of the very classic cases of sexual harassment things from making lewd comments about women's bodies about their breasts about their rear ends about the the clothes they were wearing to very overt sexual comments, propositioning requests to go on dates, just a lot of overall inappropriate workplace behavior. Behavior from superiors directed at female employees, and it did not seem to be a secret. Some of these women who went on the record with the Washington, post talked about how the other people who worked in the organization knew about it. They talked about it amongst themselves. There were places in the building where women were advised not to go. Specifically, there was a stairwell that had basically transparent stairs and women were told. Do not go there because there were men who. Who would stand underneath that and look up? Their female colleagues skirts all of these things that are blatantly inappropriate and wrong and workplace environment, but had been persisting for more than a decade, all fifteen of these women went on the record, but one of the few who allowed her name to be published is a woman named Emily applegate. What was her experience like working inside the Washington Organization? It was miserable it really most people know times a comment on my appearin. Screaming at you for something that you, it's not your fault. And then somebody makes a comment to you about what you're wearing and it just snowballs from there. she cried at work regularly, she felt belittled, imagined us being called stupid on a daily basis, and then also almost in the same breath being hit on for your appearance. It's a miserable work experience. Experience to the point where she no longer wanted to work there anymore and no longer even wanted to work in sports, and we should note that Emily applegate's former boss Mitch Gershman who was the team CEO at the time both denied and said he didn't recall conversations referenced by Applegate, telling The Washington Post quote I can't comment on something I can't remember. But Lindsay what actions has the team taken in response to these accusations from emily applegate, and the many other women, well many of the men who were accused in this story, all ready been fired, and we're kind of fired in the process of the Washington Post. Reporting this story, the team can say that has taken measures to address this because some of these accusations date back to the early to mid two thousands, so some of these people no longer actually work with the team and then some of the people. People that had new allegations have immediately been fired or left the team. They've started their own investigation. They hired an attorney Beth Wilkinson. The name might sound familiar over the last several years. Wilkinson took part in notable cases involving Hillary. Clinton Brett Cavenaugh and Michael Flynn and she told us we can confirm that our firm was retained by the team to do an independent review of the team's culture policies and allegations of workplace, misconduct and Daniel. Snyder and his wife sent an internal email to everybody who works organization to. To apologize for the culture, the statement saying in part, the behavior described in yesterday's Washington Post. Article has no place in our franchise or society. The story has strengthened my commitment to setting a new culture and standard for our team, but without specific apologies to any of the employees into these women, and there have also not been any public apologies to the two female reporters who were not team employees. The team has not publicly addressed them as well

The chief Right. He was way Gotta dunk tank about January was cold. So we got an intern because that's when you could still, you know, taken in turn, and we got a chief cost God about this, and I I I left the station. We're gonna fill it with water. Juliet. Welcome. Hi. How are you? And which of those four sandwiches? Do you enjoy the most? Oh, you know, Honestly, I wasn't really listening to sandwiches, so I'm not really a sandwich girl, but it's it's got. It's got turkey or some salmon. I'm all in. Okay. Eladio Corona is what I'm ready to get out there. Right. Just gone way too long. No doubt about it. No doubt about it. How are you, Julianne and my gosh. What? Ah! What? What are not fortunate story. That that has come out and ID. By the way, I've been just so you know, I've been calling them the Washington whatever's until they come up with a new name. So are we okay with that, just for the purposes of this conversation. Yeah, You know, it's been hard because for years you mean look you identified with it, and that's the name that you go forward with and what it's going to be. Is it going to be? It's a change. It's going to take a lot of get used to On right now. Yeah. There. There there. The Washington Football Club. Yeah, you you can deal with whatever's I'll pray with Washington Football Club. Hopefully soon we get Teo insert insert names. Before we get to the awful allegations that 15 women made yesterday. Can I ask you about the build up to this story and how odd that was journalistically? That so many people around the country We're almost treating it like a countdown clock to this big thing That was gonna happen. Reporters saying they had information but not sharing it. What was going on there? Yeah. No, you know, we knew. You know, a couple people knew that the story was going to be coming out. And, you know, I was aware of what the details were in what it was going to be and where the party is going to come out on Monday, and then I was going to come out on Tuesday and then you know, I think different things just kind of happened and the story was added to it, so it did come out at the time that it did. Andi. It is very unfortunate. Sadly, I believe it's not very surprising, and I believe it's quite not very surprising for a lot of organizations. You know, the Washington football Club has a huge spotlight on them, and this had been going on for years with about five different head coaches. So it's a problem that needed be brought to light. I hope and pray that the women that were involved in this, you know, have managed to find ways to Focus on their work and get back and be taken seriously. And I know that the club is taking it seriously and is taking a good hard look at how things are run. And I believe the head coach Ron Rivera is bringing a different tune. You know, they believe they addressed the issue. They believe they address it now. Probably a lot of it way too late. A lot of things were not brought it to light the time that they should have been, But this is a day in eight now, and we're in 2020. When this behavior cannot be accepted and acting have to be taken. It can no longer just be something where you speak up and that nothing comes from it. I believe now a day and age where you speak up and you have to see results, and you have to be some sort of ramifications for that, And that's what all this is about, And I think that's what we're in, is where when something like this happened, a movement have to follow it. Julianne Donaldson in Washington and Julie and I, You know, I certainly don't want Teo to come off like I'm prying, but But being that you're a female having covered this team, I just wonder when you saw these allegations, and you said you were aware of them. At least you know, the better part of a week ago on a personal level. How did this sit with you? How did it resonate with you? You know, Here's the thing. It's It's sad, and it's very disappointing is very disappointing. That still happens in today. You know, when I first started my career there, oftentimes that I find myself as the only female in the room and a in an NFL organization, you know you have more men in that room, then even an MBA or NHL in those places, But either way, no matter what there's so many times that I've looked around and said, I'm the only thing off the table. Time to leave him on the locker room. I'm the only female in the media outlets and that very uncomfortable, But then you get to this day and age. We're now you expect women to be there and they have a right to be there. You no longer question it and its demanded. And you realize that you know our work is just is good. And just as important and be taken justice seriously, So pretty of comments to still go on. You know, it is a bit the party because I want to say Look for all the stars that we have made. We still haven't gone far enough, and it still sometimes can be a little bit of a boys club and too much of a fraud club and that needs to change and women don't need to be able to feel like they have to, you know, lower themselves in order to fit in when you are the minority, and I think that no longer acceptable have I had common throughout my career. They're inappropriate 100%. Yes, I have. I also do believe that I have learned very early on to carry myself with a certain amount of professionalism. And this is how I address it. When when I feel Comfortable. First off, I'll give a signal that this is inappropriate and I'll go to the first and say, Look, I didn't appreciate that and you crossed the line and I was offended by it, and we need to address it. Given the opportunity T o to address at and then things look. If it's not going to change, then I will take certain steps and I will go to management and this will become a bigger issue, and I think people are very quickly. You can't do that. But here's the problem. That you have again. There is a power struggle and because you are the minority, and they're too many women feel And this is what you here on time again. Too many women feel that they have to go along with it in order to keep their jobs And I think we're learning that you no longer have to tolerate that no longer will be tolerated..

A cz Tracy just said Jeff Darlington's been a great friend of our show. He is awesome Cover in the National Football League, and he joins us right now, Jeff. Good morning. Hope you're well, man. How's life? What's up, man? We're just hanging in there, you know? Man, everybody that said. Just keep riding every day. Right. So let's talk about there's so much to go over in the NFL. We could start with the team I call Washington FC The Washington Football Club they first announcer review because they've got pressure from FedEx and Nike and whoever else And then you started to hear that some of the minority owners like the chairman of FedEx want to sell their steak and I'm thinking home. They're going to change the name. Why're you get? Not now? Well, then there's you drops yesterday with that story. What is your takeaway on the future of Daniel Snyder is the owner. Well, you know, it's interesting because Yes, I mean, Well, First of all, let's start with this. I've done covered. The Web seems a lot of 15 formerly known as the Washington Football Club. I've covered them. A lot of you been to that facility at least 100 times and Um, I've been all 31 other teams as well and there really is not More. Negative energy. Let's call it, um, like there is in that organization. And I think that there always has been. So this class system where you talk tio important over the years when their coaches and scouts or people who just walked in the organization. And that's a long a long held belief that basically if you are in that small inner circle of James Snyder that used to be a sort of headed by Bruce Allen. You were good. They were empowered to a degree that we're now seeing as perhaps pervasive and Then you had everybody else, and everybody else didn't really get treated all that well. So When you say what's to be made of Daniel's letters. He has done a good thing in hiring Ron Rivera and getting rid of fruit salad. But ultimately he's still in charge. So I think we're now really going to find out for the first time in a good decade. Um, whether It truly does go all the way to the top of dance better or whether the culture will change by having someone like Ron Rivera leading the show. So I guess the long and short of it years that You know, it's no surprise. I think people that that sort of thing has come out in terms of the strange culture that existed in that organization. The question now becomes whether it continues. So when Donald Sterling When those tapes emerged from his mistress, showing all of these Racist homophobe HQ thoughts that he then articulated to her, and they said, You're done. Take your billions. Sell your team. Steve Balmer, Europe. You get it in the NFL do that. Does the NFL have a commissioner like Adam Silver? Who's willing to go? You're an embarrassment. You're out. Well, you know what, Like, so so. You know, we saw something similar in the NFL with Jerry Richardson and the kind of leader cancers the important thing that we have to remember here. Is that and ah, not trying. I mean, I am. I'm trying to basically Make sure we recognize well, this is horrible, and I'm not defending this situation. It's not Daniel Center himself being accused of sexual harassment. And in those other cases with Sterling and with Richardson, it was those specific people who were taking the brunt of the accusations. Again. I understand you believe your innovation initiative that exists, But I don't think it's a situation where the NFL will feel easily inclined to simply say. That's it. You're done because it wasn't him. You know, I'm saying like I know it's a weird one. I'm not trying to defend him, but I am trying to say that Like he's not the one Holding the smoking gun. If that makes sense, No, but if you had a stable off, they said, Hey, Jeff, we're going to create this football Reporters bureau, ESPN and you've got 15. Men and women working under you, and we find out Oh my God. Darlington's office cultures horrific. You're be the guy that gets nailed along with the people that were doing whatever it was, they were doing it. But But that said, and by the owner of the organization like that's the thing you gotta remember to is that Um do I own that company and in this regard point, better owns it. So it's not like he is just firing. Somebody like Roger Goodell Technically works for Dan Snyder oust an owner. It takes something I think significant in terms of an actual Al addition against them. I'm with you. I think the NFL can punish them to a degree. I think public perception will continue to pound him. The fact that you've got Two owners that make up 300. Excuse me that make up 40% stake in the team Now looking to sell. Ah, look. I mean, James Snyder is now under fire. There's no question. I just don't know that the next step is the NFL saying We're kicking your team away because I think that would probably have a pretty significant legal case to say You can't do that. Do you think that there is still more to come? For now, This was the story because there are some people that expected even more of a block. That's a tough one. So yes and no. Let's put it this way. Like I heard plenty of different rumors, as did everybody else. I'm sure within the circles that we all talking about what? We're going to come in that story, and it didn't hit. All those things, but there's a reason why the Washington Post Um If those rumors were founded and took on a journalistic responsibility, the Post would've reported them so So we just have to say you know that That is what is just and that's Ah, and that's what we have to go on. In terms of a reaction. And, honestly, anything else would. At this point. We're irresponsible, so Look, I mean, the one thing we also have to remember is The New York Times also reported several years ago about a very significant cultural issue when it came to the cheerleaders within the organization. And if you don't know about that, I'd encourage you to look it up to your listeners. Because, honestly, it's all bad. But you could make it an easy case that what was in that article was even worse. And we kind of know that ultimately We know what we do know we can look out and out and not much changed in the wake of that. I think more will now but at the same time, it's not like this should be that big of a surprise. We kind of have seen this. Show already play out..

"I cannot believe there's not a high functioning HR department in any comparable company in this day and age. But but they lacked that yet spent profligate Lee on free agents and and all sorts of other things that spending at that place under this owner is Keep beyond words on something and wasteful beyond belief On other things. We're speaking of his Clark from The Washington Post to co author of the article There was released yesterday about the Washington football Club and 15 women that have alleged sexual misconduct through the process of it, Liz, I find it interesting in the article, you mentioned that Dan Snyder was approached to respond to this and interviews and didn't You also mentioned that the Post presented detail allegations and findings to the club, which resulted in three employees leaving when all of this information was presented to the football team before it actually hit the article. What was their reaction to what? You guys were going to be publishing? Yes, and I'm glad you you've gone there because there are some affirmative things that I want to say about that. The club's response. So the initial response and my co worker will have been dealt with the team on this, But I understand you know everything about the story in our joint reporting process. The initial response was, we don't respond to hearsay. And then when will came forward really with a memo outlining specific incidents here's who was involved here what was said. In fact, we have texts that were sent. The team. Ah, took it quite seriously. We certainly weren't informed. But as we were still reporting and trying to pull the story together Two scouts left. They were fired. Ah! Ah, third, very significant person resigned. On then, on this key in the story, the demon out they are. They've hired a lawyer. Female law, You're very prominent accomplished lawyer to lead a thorough review of their internal workplace issues and chart a new course of workplace issues going forward now. That you gotta applaud that. But I think anybody who followed the team might remember that play because that's a play that came into play. After the cheerleader scandal, the team announced they were doing a thorough internal review, and it came up again. The play was used again. At the height of the name controversy in the past five weeks, they're doing an internal review, so I want to acknowledge the things they've taken and that they did respond to us, and they seemingly responded internally. Um and I wish Coach Rivera the best. He has it outrageous amount on these shoulders. This team does not have a president does not have a GM. He is trying his now tasked with changing a culture. Not just picking a quarterback but putting a product on the field. That's credible, and somehow he's supposed to be designing a logo and helping pick a name at the same time. It's just bizarre. "Prince George's County in places like AKA Kiki in Suitland. No Injuries reported in ST Mary's County, part of a road buckled and crumbled. Michelle Bash. W T o p New 6 12 Maybe you felt the Earth move a little last week now that Redskins owner Dan Snyder's made an about face and agreed to explore a name change for the team. The public moment, Um, for such change is moving at Avalanche speed. But when it comes to the actual process of changing the name of a pro sports team, it's a lot more complicated. Then just declaring a new name. That's bringing up questions about whether the team will have a new nickname. By the start of the 2020 NFL season. Adam Kilgore's national sports writer for the Washington Post. He talked with me earlier about what needs to take place with the team to switch names. I was talking to the expert with the only people who can put the league about Rebranding, you know, Typically, this process is gonna take about two years. You know when the weather to change their name from the bullet that took about two years from start to finish, getting focus groups together legal trademarks. Redesigning a website, you know, changing stadium sign. It's changing the envelopes, stationery gig use across all departments of the franchise, so there's a lot to it. I think it's possible to pull it off before the season like Ron Rivera said that he hopes, too, but I don't think that it's ideal for sure. Andi, there would be a lot of issues that would come up trying to do it so quickly. However, ah lot of people are expecting action. Now sew, according to the people you're talking to. What should the team do at this point? Well, they have a few options. I mean, I think there's one option that's a little bit inelegant but could be a solution is you just played 20 twenties and that is the Washington football Club or something along those lines, and then you take your time in a roll out the new brand after the season that's difficult to create computer among fans to create confusion in a sort of lack of identity. But the problem with trying to change the name quickly before the new season is won. It's possible there's not enough time to do all the work necessary both legally and physically, So don't have a lot of good options, because, as you said, there is pressure this is not a typical rebranding is immense. Political pressure, you know, to change it in a lot of different directions. It will be very interesting to see what they choose to do that if you want that's Washington Post national sports writer Adam Kilgore.
