Now the Corona virus pandemic has had a deep impact, of course, on all of us, But when it comes to our finances summer struggling more than others, we asked CBS's business analyst Jill Schlessinger about that before we came into this period. We knew that the income gap between the richest and the poorest was very wide Census Bureau reported the widest in 50 years. Also, the same holds for the wealth gap. Just the amount of money you have in terms of your Value of your real estate. Your stocks in what you have in your savings account, But what the pandemic has exposed is that the gap is actually widening. And I think of this as the letter K because we've been talking so much about a V shaped recovery, you know, down and then back up very quickly. But imagine a K where we all go down very quickly. But those people who have lucky enough to have White collar jobs work from home. Your income is not interrupted and you watch the stock market prices go up. Housing prices go up and you see that those folks tracking up towards the right those of the wealthier folks in the United States, But then you've got the bottom part of the K where we're trailing down. Those of the people who make $40,000 or less and The gap is widening because of this pandemic, and we tend to I think, forget all of that that there are people behind these businesses that are closing. We tend to forget that when we get all of these statistics, absolutely, and you know, I hear from a lot of people who send me e mails and I doing stories all the time. And I think what's becoming clear to me is that people who make less than 40 grand people of color women, younger workers They're sort of saying, like, Look, why am I getting vilified here? "Samantha. Thank you so much for joining us today. I'm so excited to talk with you about these citrus oils. Now I'm excited to talk with you too. There are some amazing oil that we have so. I know a lot of people think of Setris when they think of summer. It's fun and it's bright and of course the taste and the smells remind us of summer but what are some things to be aware of when using citrus oils topically especially during the summertime? Like you said oils are great. They you know we have that bright fresh smell also great topically for certain uses however it's important to be careful where you apply them most such as well as have compounds that can cause UV sensitivity basically means skin is more sensitive to the sun and UV. Rays for myself. In the summer I personally don't use many citrus loyals topically unless it's at night or if I absolutely have to and then I make sure underclothing things like that right absolutely so we do have to be a little bit. More careful about where we're applying citrus oils but what makes them a great companion during the summertime. They are fantastic. I love combining said shows or something to ground them it really just brightens refreshes the atmosphere. That you're in one of my favorite diffuser blends to us is wild orange green monitoring grapefruit. Hawaiian Angela just a few drops of each of those. It's so refreshing uplifting whether that's during the summer or as things get kinda cooler in the fall that sounds like it would smell amazing. That's definitely won. The I want to try now I recommend so does. Tara has quite a few sicher soil. Some people may be really familiar with some. They might not have tried. Before and so they're kind of a few different categories maybe that we could put these citrus into the first one would be the sweeter citrus says things like wild orange. Or Tangerine what are some of your favorite uses I the sweeter citrus oils. While warrenton kettering arm I go to as an addition to my water bottle to drinking water. I love the sweet taste like you mentioned. They really are in that sweet category and it helps me drink more water throughout the day. Be More mindful about the water that I'm drinking. Plus there. Those emotional benefits that we love from citress loyals absolutely and the internal cleansing as well that can come with citrus oils. That's amazing and I think you're absolutely right. Sometimes it's hard to get in all the water that we need to especially when it's hot and we need a little bit of extra water that taste of that sweet citrus can be such a good companion. Yeah it's a great motivated drink. More for sure. So the next category would be kind of the tangy citrus oils. Things like lemon lime burgum. Oh Green Mandarin and grapefruit. What are some of your favorite ways to use these oils internally? Some lemon lime are my favorite goto oils cooking. Especially in the summer. I use these in Salsas guacamole along with a little bit of Cilantro oil for both the tastes and the internal benefits like you mentioned about the internal cleansing and internal emotional benefits. We can get from those oils. Ooh those in a guacamole would be so fresh and then you don't have to worry about having the fresh ingredients around the house exactly it's divine. So what are some other ways that I could incorporate these funds citrus oils around the house? So we all know. soils are ideal oils for cleaning. But if for me if I ever need to use a harsher cleaner to remove stubborn stain Soaps gone. I really like to add a few drops of grapefruit and lemon in the bottle cleaner. It adds a bright fresh aroma. Kinda cuts that harsh cleaner. If I really have to use some things a little heavier but also helps soclean stubborn surface ads and it boosts cleaning benefits. Also lemon mix with some retain makes for great would cleaner. That's awesome for you. Know would tables but as always test the oils? You're using a small inconspicuous area before just to make sure you're not going to damage your surface. Because some of the finishes can be a little touchy to to these citrus oils. Those are great ideas in such a good alternative to some of the harsh chemicals that we would bring into our house otherwise for that cleaning and different things. Yeah Yeah. It's definitely your alternatives. So the last category that I think we could lump these citrus oils into is kind of the bright citrus oils and these two are the citrus lens that we have the citrus bliss and doe Tara Cheer as part of our product marketing team. You know you have some experience with the creation of these oils. The thought behind creating these two essential oil blends as bliss is simply inspired by an orange cream sickle. When you smell that you really get that vanilla ice cream in that sweet. Tang you orange. We wanted to create a fresh summary. Blend that still reminded us that you know simpler days in the San Juan joying sweet classic ice cream treat diffuse it smells just like an orange cream cycle and then as part of the emotional therapy program cheer actually. Combined Citizen Spices which is on that emotional therapy wheel. And they've been shown to inspire optimism while uplifting attitude and so you mentioned fusing and you mentioned the emotional benefits with the cheer. How can you utilize the citrus blends every day in your life? I feel like suggest. Bliss is amazing diffused from spring all through summer. I also like to put a few drops on a paper towel. Then put that the bottom of my garbage bin. I found it helps of any unpleasant smells can kinda kick so smells and then cheer is one of my favorites from the emotional therapy line. Actually it's the one that I I- diffuse whenever I need a different type of such a splint. The spices actually perfectly complemented suggest profile. So I generally use it late summer to fall to warm up the house. A bit with those spices while still keeping it fresh energize having citrus aroma. That you love in the summer

"Let's let's go to the phones. Let's go to rob in Warrenton Virginia. Rob you're on the Chris Plante show. Good morning. Hey, rob. I'm great. Thank you. I just want to tell my tale of we are suffering out here. Warrenton Mike Tyson or our now thirty five minutes can't take worth. So it's it's a terrible thing. Your commute has been cut nearly in half. I didn't know where you were going with this. When I picked up the so your commute you're saying that the traffic is like weekend traffic, and it's allowed you to live your life with great ease and comfort as a normal day in traffic in the Washington metropolitan area, which is supposed to be now the worst in the country. The worst traffic worse than Los Angeles. And San Francisco New York, they say by whatever metric they use. That are traffic rush hour traffic is the worst in the country. And you're saying that you're one hour commute is now thirty five minutes because of the government shutdown. Otherwise, do not feel one iota other shut down. So does not mean anything to me, otherwise, you don't feel the effects of the shutdown whatsoever. And it doesn't mean anything to you. There. It is Robin. "Neuland Warrenton. Don't spit the desma spits toward Newland and both corporal Newland and another officer Joshua Titus, grab LA desma push him backwards onto the floor while he's still seated. His head strikes the floor and both officers jump on top of him and punch him in the face repeatedly. When did this happen? This happened on January twelve of this year. And how did this incident come to your attention, and how did the video come to your attention? The south bend Tribune was investigating disciplinary matters in the Elkhart. Police department in partnership with propublica. There are not many disciplinary cases that have been brought forward to the city's civilian oversight board. But this was one of them. We noticed it from looking at minutes of the meetings of the civilian oversight board that in June. The police chief Edwin Bigler had brought forward written reprimands for two officers for a violation of the department's policy for use of necessary force. Oh, so this is a case where the police department did see. An abuse. And did discipline the officers. But then the question arises whether reprimands were enough for actually beating a suspect in handcuffs at the time. That's correct. There are also questions about how accurately the police chief described what had happened when he went before the civilian oversight board. What do you mean? Didn't they say that the police punched a suspect? No, he didn't the police chief described what had happened as these two officers having gone a little overboard. So you have this incident where there was a euphemism that essentially became an alleged cover-up of a beating and let's bring in Ken Armstrong of propublica. How does this fit in with the broader record of the Elkhart Indiana police department when you began looking into that? What we discovered is that under the current police chief disciplinary actions have plummeted in the ten years before the current police chief took office the prior police chiefs brought an average of twenty disciplinary actions a year to the civilian oversight board in the first year under the current police chief the number of disciplinary actions brought to the board zero is it remotely possible that the number of disciplinary cases went down drastically. Because the police department behave better, I think that video would argue otherwise this video shows a man who ultimately had to be carried away on a stretcher. Are there many cases that you've found where someone was seriously hurt? This is certainly the only case that we've seen under the current chief where officers were disciplined over an allegation of excessive force. We don't know if there are more the mayor Bill card actually reached out to the Indiana state police task them to investigate his police department, the state police declined and said that that would be more appropriate for the US department of Justice. And Steve as we started looking at the department's history, we discovered that there were a disproportionate number of fatal shootings by police officers in Elkhart there were six people shot and killed by police officers in a five year period. If you compare that to New York City, the numbers are pretty extraordinary in those same five years, New York City had seven times the shootings with one hundred sixty times, the people know, so if I'm living in Elkhart, Indiana, statistically, speaking, I'm way, more likely to be shot by. A police officer than New York. The numbers would say so yes. So the person who is willing to look into this at the moment is the mayor of Elkhart in this video that you published one of the four officers who's in the room is identified as the mayor's son. He's not one of the people who throws a punch, but he's there. How would you say the mayor has done under the pressure of your reporting in the story? Well, the mayor now said that he has suspended the police chief for thirty days without pay the two officers who actually through the punches are currently on administrative leave with pay pending the ongoing criminal case that has been filed against them. But the two other officers who were in the same room when the beating took place, including the mayor's son who is a sergeant on the police force to our knowledge have not been disciplined, you have described concerns about police abuse and the futility of finding anyone to investigate them. Theoretically, the police should investigate themselves. It's alleged that didn't happen here. It didn't happen seriously. But you say there was also this outside civilian review board, which is really normal is that outside review board completely powerless to investigate on its own. And is that normal across the country. It seems that the amount of questioning and investigating that these boards. Do is determined by what they would like to do in in. What also we found is that nationally it appears that the trend was civilian oversight is greater independence from the police department Elkhart in the last couple of years is gone the opposite direction. We've been listening to Christian shack ler of the south bend.
