"Tonight? Well, another one of our listener reports. This is from Warren County, Virginia. Photos on Twitter sharing just about 6 to 8 inches of snow. It looks like but now he's saying it has switched over to sleep. So this rain snow line continues to expand as we're seeing, mostly rain D. C. West to front royal and north now into Gaithersburg and Leesburg, should if you're seeing snow still there, you may see rain before the next couple of hours are over. Then tonight once those temperatures dropped back below freezing for most of us were going to be looking at either more snow. For the majority of our region or freezing rain and sleet and it I's going to just get pretty tricky out there tonight. So if you're on the road right now, get home as quickly as you can and stay off the roads later tonight, if you can. I know that our crews of it working our county and city crews have been working to de ice the roads as much as they can. But you can only do so much when we talk about this dangerous freezing rain on sleet on the way for later this evening. That's why winter weather advisory is out. That's why Winter Storm warning is out to the west in the mountains and we'll see those wrap up early tomorrow morning as a storm wraps up windy start to the day very early tomorrow before the winds die down will be sunny and cold. Eyes in the upper thirties. Tomorrow and Friday. It looks like dry with upper thirties as well. A check of our current temperatures sitting at 35 degrees right now in Washington, Camp Springs, 30. Six degrees and Fredericksburg 34 degrees. All right, Brianna, Thanks for 51. Virginia Lawmakers will meet next month for their 2021 session. And today Governor Ralph Northam laid out his priorities with a budget plan focused on rebuilding after the pandemic. This budget will help us rebound more quickly. That's what governor nor them said as he announced his budget proposals, based on a revenue forecast that significantly better than expected revenues dipped, but not as much as we fear His plan includes 90 million Dollars to support the effort to deploy Corona virus. Vaccines would allocate more than 500 million to prevent funding counts of school system's due to dropping enrollment to help schools weather this temporary decrease and he wants $80 million for a 2% bonus for teachers, though he says of revenue numbers allow Ford he'd pushed to make that bonus a permanent raise instead. "For the Warren County safe communities coalition and she's on the show this morning to talk about just that and good morning how are you I'm good how are you I'm doing fine I think I hopefully set that up okay because the out years ago I don't know how you know you're only like in your twenties but for me a little bit older I look at this and go okay I was a generation where you know you have a few drinks any risk it getting hot when they're probably times in my youth admittedly as most of us would that we probably drove and we should have dropped and by the locker grace aggadic an accident get hurt or anyone else but today really there there's little excuse for that because of the phenomenon of self right well well eventually self driving cars are getting that too but also the uber and lift phenomenon there's really no excuse no matter where you live not to take advantage of the service but by no means no it it is just too easy any more to you know get a safe ride home yeah yeah it is relatively affordable to when you think about not just the ticket in the final you're talking thousands of dollars in court costs everything maybe losing your job losing your you your ability to drive but more importantly outside of the hassle it's the fact knowing if you caused an accident in an accident and someone is injured that that's on your conscience that's a stain on your soul the rest your life there's no getting that back in you see this first hand more than anyone else they are yes I do and actually funny I am probably right at your age so I've been there as well I completely you know there were times in my youth that I probably should not have been you know driving home as well so but of course you know as we get older we do know that okay you know we could you know to make the right decision no you you're a up your NET nurse trauma nurse in you have you know you're also an EMT and paramedic training so you've you've been on the front lines of a first responder you've been in the I. E. R. you're you work those nights when you get a lot of a trauma and and and especially how bad is it in the emergency department for piano your with premier health but and not getting the rest your resume here but it is that you've been in that he are a nights where it's been a big drink and we can big drink at night you know the the the night before thanksgiving the Wednesday before thanksgiving the new year's eves the yes Superbowl lights things like that how bad does it get in the emergency department it can get fairly busy with chest from minor stuff from you know people maybe shoot off some fireworks and you know what burned to a hand to then you know getting that fatal accident where you know somebody has decided to cross the yellow line with and they've been drinking they killed a family of four war and we had a couple actually this year in Warren County where I mean that is exactly happened where they have you know come across the interstate and have it you know innocent people and it is not them that have had died it is those innocent people we saw that story that young lady up and I think catering you you're not talking about on seventy five and she decided she was going to end it all she was she was a highly intoxicated on Saint Patrick's day thank and decided she was going to go the wrong way it in and wound up killing in front of the kid sister there goes the mom and I forgive me but killed her little brother them in it's horrible because there's there's an orphan the mom the dad in the in one child or dad and that was a sibling all alone in the sibling witness the tragedy in front of them as this thing happened I can't think of a more horrific situation almost definitely and you know and when you even just kind of take it from you know one step further that being out on that scene and you know you are a date first respond or or you know there's troopers out on did you know the scenes with us and what we have to see and M. we only take all of that away with us and it's really difficult then too even for them for us to go home and talk to our families about it and you know I mean there are just some of those runs that really haunt you the ones where you know it is again Brock I'll I'll put you on the spot here for just a second I think is important we tried everything get the word out there super eleven and we got a program in Orange County I want to get to that just a second but I've talked to you know sheriffs and deputies in the like we talk about this issue often especially this time of the year and it's it's one thing for sure to say Hey don't do it but now I'm talking to a near some as a health care practitioner you see the effects of man's inhumanity to man our own stupidity arm negligence are owned our egos get in the way of common sense and I'll still largely that's what happens a year full of people who made bad decisions are made stupid mistakes I I don't know if it's a mistake to liberally getting behind the wheel if you're if you're had too much to drink I think there's some intent there certainly but there's always one case or maybe a couple cases in your career that you have seen that still you'll wake up three in the morning with the sweat the thing that you can't get out here hi your my cops have that but especially EMTs and emergency room nurses and physicians you get that all the time what what is yours and you know I'm not asking to be gratuitously graphic or anything like that if you want to get into it but it's with the intent that listen to the story that these people are honored with imagine this being your relative or being you in a situation that that you called go head so the the one that really sticks out to me is we had a fatal accident out on route for me and I was not only on the scene but then I responded with the troopers to the house to notify that person that their loved one had just died an impaired driver and he the screen that came from that mother being told that her son had you know which test involved in the accident and will never be home will not ever be able to spend another holiday you know with that family and that is what haunts me I can't imagine having to break the news have you had also do that the emergency department were relative are called or someone who's in trauma and they just they simply don't make it in there they're in the hospital they know why they're there I I can't and that's probably I don't know if it's any easier but the area at that point if your call to the some of the hospital to to a trauma suite you know that something bad happening but answering that door at two o'clock in the morning yeah I I know cops and now you and as a as a health care practitioner in and that they will say outside it may be involving dead infants or children or things like that are abused that that happened to deliver that news in the middle of night to summon his unsuspecting is the worst thing you can do and that no doubt about it yeah there's no doubt about it you had to do this I'm sure at the hospital too and when you get someone codes you simply can't bring it back to life yeah yeah and it's the same but you are right I think that there is that expectation you know when they're at the hospital and you know you're working on them I mean yes there's sorrow but not that you know being thank you said woke up in the middle of the night and you know answering the door in hearing that your loved one will never come home again not my daughter will call she in a while but there is time when she first moved out you call it you know because you're different scheduling your teenager all right I I I eggs are young adults for that matter so like twenty twenty one and she'd call like one in the morning to tell us that she made cookies and of course as a parent your rings you see if your daughter you instantly go to all my god what happened right right right right so plans just cookies animal man she woke me up but thank god you just burned some cookies instead of feel someone like yourself and have a call me saying you need to come down to the hospital there there's been an accident I can I can imagine I hope I never have to go that no one's listening as to go through that but it is is changing my my dad who's no longer with us but this is back in back in the day when I was in school I got a call saying call it was probably about midnight and I was a Bowling Green my parents are living in the Youngstown area at the time and my dad was involved in a very serious T. bone accident on the highway and that my mom said you need to get to the you get it again here and and the next I I remember sleeping that night the next morning getting up tell a call works and I couldn't come in not going to class in in driving my car three and a half hours to to see my dad in a trauma sweet and I see you and I first walked in and I I still vividly remember looking at I'm going I don't think this is the right room because that wasn't my dad my dad's a big strong guy and there there's this tiny weathered man laying there with godless amounts of tubes in bags and monitors on him I said that that that's not him a I'm in the wrong room and then I realized after I saw looked a second I got as my father laying there and there was a good chance he's gonna pass away and it was a alcohol related accidents anything yeah yeah actress and I'm sure that that changing a change I mean a little in those moments in your life that it hits you when you go you know take your breath away fortunately you look for a a you know he was never the same after that because of the injuries but but nonetheless he was still alive and take that take that because if that would have happened that way imagine the trajectory of your life all that would have changed right now my life but that that happens countless times a day it does very much though yes yeah and rock is any our nurse from I recorded for the Warren County safe communities coalition this morning on seven hundred W. all W. eight interpreting Isaiah said it was a tech to share some people like that but you as a it is someone who's there who actually tries to cease to tip to prevent the dastardly stop the bleeding and and prevent a tragedy from getting worse and that is the loss of human life and the suffering that goes along with that from those are left behind I'll flip it around and ask you a and about of those that that that were the cause of the accident who present also in the archives it's a weird thing right in in one sweet you're gonna have someone in the trauma bay you're going to have someone who is the victim of what the person next to them did in in the bay next to them and I'm sure you had that scenario as well do people when they're intoxicated men and they presented the are the day that they are they aware of of the magnitude of what has what they've occurred what they've costed sometimes a lot of them now are not aware of what they've done and it it it to actually have to then take care of that other person you know you have to go in and you know still be as polite and professional as you just were in the other room and so it and it just so you go home with that feeling of they don't even realize what they've done and it's not till they sober up that they realize that they have just you know either severely injured somebody or you know killed somebody in another we have you been in that situation now where they they eventually realized the magnitude of what they've done normally there either have been released by then war they are up on that I just wonder what that re and it's gonna be better for law enforcement or lawyers is that quite because I'm curious as you know after you sober up or after you're able to comprehend what occurred at your hand I'm sure there's a tremendous amount of remorse and and and shock and a whole bunch of fat I just wonder what their reaction would you like to see that to go Mike I did what you know I just I can't but I can contemplate I've I've never been in even not driving I don't think I've ever been that state where I remember not remember but you know because of these things I I'm pretty cautious about making sure that that I get a designated.

"Emma's uneventful fog supposed to be going to north Warren county in north of there. Kind of looked like it was you know, you could have that freezing fog issue. I'm talking about no, dense fog as in can't see where you're going. But it is kinda damp out there with the temping where it isn't twenty right now twenty that could be problematic. I'm telling you to I'm just letting you know, and we'll keep you posted. And of course, Chuck has cameras all over the place, and they'll do the same here in just a bit. So what have we got on the big show an interesting stat? An interesting fact think about this one you now have a better. Well, not you, but society Americans have a better chance of dying from an opioid overdose than in a car accident. Think about that. How many of us are in cars just about all of us? How many of us are on an opioid a very small percentage of us. So if you are one of those opioid and think how high your risk of dying is if you are somebody who uses heroin if it's one in ninety six for the entire population. This ten percent of the population. Use opioids irresponsibly. That's a that's a very very significant number, and there's lots lots of different things, you can't die from as we know. And some of those are on the way up and some of those are on the way down they will tackle the whole epidemic by increasing pain management training opioid prescribers making the potentially lifesaving drug knocks alone more widely available and expanding access to addiction treatment about fennel free. February I still think that's a good idea. People pick different months when we don't do different things. And you know, you have this great American smokeout in November a lot of people don't drink alcohol in January for what's called dry, January or something. How about fencing fennel free February? Let's see if we can't tackle this together. Save ourselves a boatload of money. I'll remind us we come down the homestretch Alassio toward the end of January into February that that's what's coming up. Maybe we come up with a ribbon that we could wear something. Something in January where women are not supposed to shave their armpits a mutt. Making that up. Look that up there. Daniel I think it's called January or some it is it's something like that that's supposed to shave your armpits or you're. You're not supposed to shave anywhere usually shave for the month of January. And I think it's called like January. We'll find out get back to you in a minute. Anyway, leading causes of death in America, still good old-fashioned, heart disease, heart disease and cancer are one and two but the rising overdose numbers a part of a distressing trend the lifetime. Odds of American dying from preventable unintentional injury have gone up over the past fifteen years. No good reason for that. Say it's impacting, the workforce impacting fathers and mothers who are still raising their kids. Something has to happen fennel free February. Vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of danger as well. Half the people who died in crashes, they analyzed still didn't we're not wearing seatbelts last year. Frequency of pedestrian deaths has increased led by jumping fatalities in urban areas. Pedestrian deaths are actually at a twenty five year high. What is going on watch? When you're crossing the street. A twenty seventeen study found an average of thirteen people a day or killed by cars between five and fourteen people of color and the elderly are disproportionately at risk. Okay. The elderly don't move as fast, people of color more likely to live in cities. So that if someone's gonna lead the pack that part of it makes sense and still your risk of dying as an airplane passenger one in one hundred eighty eight thousand three hundred sixty four happy flying into you unless TSA's not showing up for work, and that's happening. More and more dollars is now being impacted. So I'm sure it's going to get worse over the next few days. All right five ten we will Jay Ratliff here in a bit. If you are flying today where those issues are we'll get to those and dragging, weather and sports and every. "Of questions These families will have closure So Laura for you as a North, Korea specialist in your government as what were you thinking and feeling if, you saw that last night So I think all of us hope that those remains are in fact the remains of our fallen servicemembers and there is nothing more important in terms of being true to the commitment. Of those who make the ultimate sacrifice for our country and their, families to bring them home and to give him a final resting place and so if these remains, are in fact of US service members it's an incredibly important and welcome development both for these families to be able, to get, some closure but also in terms, of seeing the kind of step from? The North Koreans that you know should? Should, happen really regardless anyways we're saying if these actual remains are you skeptical about this whole thing do I hear this in your. Voice well we have had reasons there have been instances in the, past where the North Koreans have returned remains for one purpose or another That ended up not being remains that they said. They were, or in fact in some cases weren't even human and so I think one of the things that's going to. Happen with these remains now there has not been a process by US, forensic experts to begin to determine who these remains belong to you that process will take quite some time I think it's incredibly important that we do we do that and of course they're going to do their utmost to identify the individual service members. If that's if that's who they are but I think it is, important to recognize that you know very they we need to see that validation the last thing I, would note is of course there were a number of countries that fought in the war was a UN mission and, so you, know there there is a possibility, that these are remains of other countries? Service members who fought alongside us there? As, well but we we need to sort of see what comes of that and Jamie just briefly for you as an Iran specialist When you worked in the Bush, administration should Trump talk to Hani. Like he talked to Kim Jong UN and produced at least this result however however hazy, it is no I I'm skeptical of President Trump's approach to authoritarians whether it's Kim Jong UN in North Korea. Or the the mall is in Iran. And I fear that he's making some significant. Mistakes and how he's approaching both countries at the end of the day these are rogue regimes that do not share our interests that are. Using things like the remains of fallen American heroes and kidnapped, Americans, in, both cases as well to try.
