"That was three plus of the most intense hours you'll ever experience. The Yankees should have probably lost it in the third and the fourth and definitely the 8th, they didn't get a runner two second, not past second, two second until Tyler wade in the 9. Thomas Karin, did did you think they were losing? And at what point did you think they were the closest to losing? Yeah, I thought I thought they were going to cough it up in the middle innings, but the wandy Peralta inning really was just so I was just like, great, okay. This is it and now they're going to have to come from behind and it's not going to happen. So we never do that. No raise. Against everybody else we actually do. It's weird, but not against the race. Yeah, I mean, heading into this when I wasn't entirely optimistic because for some reason, Michael walker and his 5 ERA just we can't hit him. I don't know what it is. I don't know if it's his pitch mix that fools these hitters. I don't know if it's a superior scouting report that the race have on the Yankees that he's able to navigate successfully and get through these guys. But the man, the man throws 56 pitches through 5 innings and you're just like, what? No runs one hit one walk. I don't get it. I don't get it. We have an assortment of all stars. Once again, in a must win game and nobody's doing anything. Completely silent once again embarrassing. But hey, you got to give props to where they're due. Jameson tion, injured ankle, three and a third inning. No one runs, did exactly what he was asked to do. Awesome. Aaron Boone, mostly manage this thing successfully, I'd say. I think the only thing people were kind of upset about was the clay Holmes Chad green switch. But he managed it like a playoff game. He used 6 pitchers went to low wise exactly when he needed to. Save the 9th for Chapman and ended up working out because we got the run in the bottom of the 9th and shut the door. I think the extra innings get a lot uglier. And I don't think I'm alone there, at least I hope I'm not alone there because that would mean that you're not really watching Yankees baseball this year. But yeah, I thought we were you've seen enough games like this like this in 2021 when they're not scoring when you simulate innings one through 5 and you're like, okay, just like take me to the 7 and let me know what the score is then. And it's zero zero or like it's one zero the opponent. And the onus is on the Yankees to score a run. Or vice versa, maybe the Yankees are up one, nothing in the 7th and the onus is on the Yankees to hold a very tight lead with a bullpen that hasn't entirely been its characteristic self for the entire year. So yeah, this was tailor made Yankees. This was TaylorMade Yankees loss, which is why everybody was on the edge of their seat. But I also got to give props to Yankee Stadium, man. I was watching that game on TV and they were into it every pitch. Let's go Yankees chance the entire time. Regardless of the situation, everybody on their feet. And that's the kind of energy you need in The Bronx..

"But take games, which is why Jonathan, the wiser guy is hurt, which is why you think Chad green fails and clutch situations because he's had 58 high leverage appearances this season already, and he's failed in 7 of them. So it's felt like a coin flip because you've watched a lot of public failures because it seems can't pull away no matter the opponent. So this is why we have situations like Jack Mayfield up with the bases loaded in an angels game, and of course he hits a Grand Slam. Any other team would be able to get Jack Mayfield to pop out bases loaded two out for Jack Mayfield is not a nerve wracking situation. Unless you're the 2021 Yankees, where you let your opponent back into the game no matter who that opponent is. And no matter how strong that opponent is, and no matter what picture you have phasing that. So it probably should have been more of a red flag during the 13 game winning streak that some of these wins were wandy Peralta getting Freddie Freeman with the bases loaded in Atlanta after coming back from a three one count. Or the Yankees blowing a 6 nothing lead behind Jameson Taiwan in Oakland, only to age out the as in the later innings. They were getting all of the karma brings. And that's very impressive. But they certainly weren't dominating these games. There were a few that felt efficient top to bottom and where the offense was picking up opportunities. The game, the first game in Atlanta stands out as one during that win street where I was like, wow, the ages took on the hottest human baseball and efficiently destroyed them. They got out of jams when they had to. They rarely face them. And they didn't have that many run scoring opportunities and they scored one or two runs every time they had guys on base. That was impressive. But far too many of those wins involved monster rally killing strikeouts, horrible offensive performances. I'm talking about the first coal Anaheim angels game where they won like two one or three two. I think it was two one and basically everything was first and second, no out strike out, double play. Like that game was terrible. They won it. I'm glad they did. I like wins. I'm glad they.

"That's just that's the end of the world to me, where your rivals are poaching players from you because of Instagram. Just the downfall of society. What else do we got here guys? Good things to come, maybe. Roll the Chapman look good and that save effort on Wednesday against the angels. Doing some digging, some help from talking yanks. And I was just looking because he was locating his velocity was there as splitter look good. Everything was good. Last 16 outings, dating back to July 6th for the left hander, 15 and a third innings, three earned runs, 9 hits, 24 strikeouts, 11 walks, 8 strikeouts, a one, 8, 8 saves, I'm sorry, not 8 strikeouts. 24 strikeouts, 8 saves, 1.76 ERA. I know it hasn't felt like that because Chapman's gotten into a lot of trouble. Notably in Atlanta when he loaded the bases and then wandy Peralta had to come in and save the day. But hey, dude, that's a lot better than what we saw from Chapman from like what June to end of May to what I don't even remember when it started because I need to erase it from my brain. But nonetheless, it was his first 19 outings or 20 outings that were nails. And then every outing after that was a disaster. He gets back on track, I don't know. Defense trust him. I don't entirely trust him. I'd like to see him get back on track for sure. I'd like to see his regular 9th inning outings where he's pumping gas and overwhelming hitters. But do I trust him in the postseason? I can't. I simply can not. Will it be a problem for the Yankees in the postseason? Probably, why are we going to think this is going to go away? At the very least, on a positive note, we're looking at glass half full. He's getting on track at the perfect time. We're in September. Here comes the stretch. Need to win games in September. So you gotta treat September as the postseason. You're only a game and a half up for the top spot in the wildcard. He had home field advantage, especially if it's going to be the Red Sox man. I really don't want that to happen, but the home field just needs to be a thing..

"Doesn't. And so this is the part of the podcast where I just do want to show some love to some people who have been extremely impressive. The Yankees are going on this winning streak, by the way. And the Orioles are not, you know, top level upper Echelon competition. I understand that. But it's not easy to pitch to a major league team. The Orioles hit, the Orioles hit the rays all weekend long. They lost those games because the bullpen and the rotation are both terrible. And the rays came back in the later innings repeatedly, but the Orioles Homer, like everybody else. The Orioles have major league hitters, the orals have Cedric Mullins who's having one of the best offensive seasons in baseball. The Yankees pitching staff without Garrett Cole, Jordan Montgomery and Domingo Hermann, were able to shut them down this week. They had to go with Luis heel who deserves all the credit in the world and has yet to allow an earned run in two starts in his major league career. The Iggy had to do with Nestor Cortez junior, the Yankees had to do it with a full bullpen game against the Seattle Mariners who are in the wild card race right behind them. A game started by wandy Peralta. They had to do with androgyny, who we've shown a lot of hate two through two starts, but who gave up four runs through two innings and then ended up going 6 innings on Saturday and game where the team desperately needed him to. I believe 9 strikeouts, overall a fine start. The Orioles say what you will about him, they can hit, you can't say the same like you can't get angry and discount the Mariners games. The Mariners have battled all year long, even when their front office tried to dissect them and turn them apart and trade their closer to a division rival. That's a wild card contender. That's a team right behind you in the standings and a split would have left these two teams basically even up. The beat them without their offensive full capacity. The Mariners have a good bullpen, a good solid young offense, a good rotation that you took three out of four with very inferior pitching options on the table. So I don't want to hear it about the Orioles really, but I definitely don't want to hear it about the Mariners. And you got to give Louis heel, again, two shutouts to start his major league career coming off a bad start at the triple-A level. He looks uniquely poised. He spins that fastball. We were talking about the other day in much the same way that Garrett Cole does. It's very interesting. Stephen writings and clay Holmes in the 6th and 7th innings of these games, I already trust both of these people. Obviously, in close games, relievers are going to have trouble on occasion. They have done nothing to prove to me that they don't deserve to be trusted. Heel ridings and homes have all shown me more than something. They are arms I already trust to lengthen the rotation and deep in the pen..

"Is the $11 million until the final option year of that deal. Dick Williams claim Scooter Jeanette. He became an All star. He claimed Jose Iglesias. He claimed Derek Dietrich. Now. He had Mrs. He in my opinion, frustratingly to me, and I've told him is hung on the guy's way too long and appointed to a lack of depth and the system Wandy Peralta. Cody reads the Scott Shovelers and others. Truth be told. I told him What are you doing? What? Why are you keeping those guys And my argument always was. There wasn't enough depth developed in the organization to be able to move on from those guys. He made a very wise decision and not giving an extension is that Cozaar? Can you imagine being a GMO gave Zack Cozart three years $38 million, like the Angels did. Yet. He chose Freddy Galvis over Jose Iglesias. I said earlier, and I'll say it again. I believe, like Dan O'Brien and wave Wayne Krivsky. Some of the fruits of Dick Williams. Labour won't come for a few years, but I believe in As long as I'm here, I'll be ableto to draw the line back and trace it back to Dick Williams. I think he was a tremendous communicator. I think he was more transparent and what he was doing what he was trying to do then, ah, most most in the business, most in that position in this city. Over the years. How did they replace him? I don't know. Do they? I don't know. Do they replace him? With with the financial situation the way it is All things considered in the times we're living in. I don't know. Maybe maybe they don't. If they don't. I'd be curious how they're going to explain it, because when they When they gave Dick the title of president of baseball ops and move Nick Crawl into general manager that was done and presented as and it's true. There is so much on the plate today of a gentlemen, it's too much for one person. There have to be divvied up responsibility, shared responsibilities. This has become more than norm than the exception around Major League Baseball. The Cubs with Theo Epstein, Jed Hoyer. That's how Mohr teams than not structure things with two president baseball ops and a general manager. You have your day to day in the major league level. You have your day to day keeping track of triple A double high a low way rook is rookie ball on down. You've got scouting and drafting a developing an international. All of that can't be put on the plate of one anymore. So that leads me to think if they don't fill the position. How did they explain it if they do fill the position? Is it bringing in somebody putting them on the flow chart here above Nick Crawl. Overseeing all of it. Or do they position that person below Nick Crawl? And Nick Oversees all of it. And I'd be curious how this How do I phrase this? How this opportunity This organization. And this Ownership. Is viewed From the outside. How those outside would view this organisation in this opportunity. There's a lot to be done this offseason. I don't know how much financially there's going to be to get it done. There's no question this team needs to be better. There's no question there's a gaping hole at shortstop. I'm still struck by the question. I was asked onto our eyes. You the question on Twitter to me was was this good or bad for the rights? I would say this is bad for the rights. And I would say ultimately, Dick Williams gets credit for stepping away today, having left This organization in a better position than it was when he assumed the title in November of.

"McAllister, Rocky Boy, When we ride till nine tonight, three full hours. You know, as I was thinking about this show coming in on the fact we've We've been in different studios doing this and obviously we're not on remote. But a shout out and I miss him. And I think you know I speak for you as well. Adding Crystal, who used to always sit at the bar crystal one. The giveaway like every week, you know, I wanna frame to print and it was the big Buckeye fans. So crystal and Ed, if you're listening. Ah, we missing We're thinking about you and Brad Shell, who would always sit in the back and he would mess with me on the names. I'd pull out for the prizes, and he would Like Vladimir's Party, Brandon Earth or Carlson and and I don't like, shout out for that. You know this prize Arthur Carlson, and I'd look around the crowd and nothing that he just be sitting there, laughing. Then it would hit me. He was talking about the big guy from W therapy in Cincinnati. So there's absolutely on Offensive line issues I want. I want you to take a listen to what Joe Mixon said today about the frustration of not being able to get the running game going and then I think there's a couple off shoots to that we can get into here's Joe when asked today with the media if it's frustrating right now falling behind and not being able to run the ball, and all that goes with that. Uh, yeah, Definitely. You can get frustrating at times, but I mean, also, you've got a nota situation. So you know, it's been kind of tough. Like you said, if I'm from behind, but at the same time can't put ourselves in that position. So That's the consequence when you plan from by going to that's unacceptable for us. That's not what we should be right now. But that's the situation we're in right now. So at the end of the day, you always want to go out there. Just go when one day at a time, So you know the way we preparation throughout the week. We've gotto go ahead and apply it to the game. And can be playing from behind can be having mental mistakes, mental errors and penalties and stuff like that, because, you know, awesomely costumes, So we got a down on that and, you know, be more disciplined. But you know everybody's taking accountability with themselves in each position room and even with the coaches, so I believe it will be in a good A good spot this week. Joe Mixon talking about the frustrations and and rock. Everybody's number one talking point is the offensive line and and When we've talked about it, as long as we've talked about it week after week, year after year, I almost struggle to think of what is new to say about the offensive line, which which you brought up this week when we were kind of comparing notes. No one thing. No, I don't think the Bengals Have had to turn away from the run because there's you know, blown out so much they they have to mean you look at the game last week in the second quarter there down 21 13, and that's not agree. Sizable amount where you have to abandon the run their abandon the run because it's not working. Right. And what? What? What? The only thing that's really working right now is Joe Borough on the short and intermediate passes. Yeah, so I think there's something to be said about maybe trying to hang in with that run game a little bit longer. Obviously, that depends on the results you're getting, but I mean, that is the most Russia import. Lance's What can change at this point, right? The only thing that was different about this line from last year. OK, you get Jonah Williams. That's a pretty big when you get Xavier Su'a Filo, and then you get 1/7 round pick, but the amount of over all that You and I think a lot of people thought this line needed didn't happen. Bangles had two choices in the off season. Do you address the run defense or do we address the offense of line they chosen addressed the defense. They spent a lot of money so In the day. You know you're going to get so good unless you bring different guys in. I mean, you gotta challenge those guys. You got to coach him up and, you know, I think you know the left side's playing pretty good, but outside the calories in common is what it is what it is. They are what they are at this point. And I was struck by how you phrased it in the mail this week in terms of protecting the investments you've got, Joe Burrow and you've got Joe Mixon who you invested four years 48 million in you invested in a number one pick in the draft in Joe Burrow and yet You've left him hanging for for lack of a better word with a with a piecemeal offensive line that you're right there. Yeah, I almost feel like it's it's kind of like rearranging the chairs on the deck chairs on the Titanic. We get excited about the littlest old Fred Johnson's gonna get a shot at right guard again or, well, Alex Redmond was signed to the practice going. I mean, we went there. What are we doing here? I like unnoticed respect Alex Redman. I like an Alex Redmond toe. Juan de Peralta, the former Reds picture the Reds would keep wanted Peralta round despite the lack of results, and it would drive me crazy, and I would say it's a sure sign. You're not doing enough to develop better players. If you have to keep going back to a Wandy Peralta or a Cody Reed or somebody else. And I would make the comparison Alex Redman, if if if you have to keep going backto Alex Redman, What does that say about the state of your offensive line? In the way your organization has scouted, drafted, developed and prioritize the position that you have to keep going back to Alex Redmond and then also, that point is, there's no really guy on this roster. Realign. Why don't we give him a chance? To be honest? Given everybody a chance, and you know, and God loving that they're doing what they can. But outside of bringing in some free agents, you know, trading for somebody. I don't which is likely not going to happen. I don't see how it gets better. And I will say this I think A little bit falls on Joe Mixon in that look, I'm of the opinion. You pay a running back. To make things happen when the offense when the line and the blocking isn't quite as good If you have amazing offensive line, you don't need to pay a Joe Mixon. Right. You could get a Nordic Sanders kind of city, right? Exactly. So I think Joe Mixon Khun. Maybe be a little more expected of him, too. Hey, man, we're paying you this money because we think you have the ability to succeed without Having a top tier offensive line..

"I think he has been Tyler Anderson. We've seen this several times this year, There was a memorable Obvious how upset Tyler is. Was an incident in Anaheim, where He was unhappy with the way an ending unfolded. He came back in and had a big time temper tantrum in the dugout mean Anderson's got a temper for sure. And he did. I must go. So is the guy who kicked him out. To the umpires defense. He warned him and let him get away with the first sort of diatribe. And he did not let him get away with second. So now this throws a wrench in the giant's plans here for this day, they're going to have to go to the bullpen. With nobody out in the bottom of the third. After Anderson is ejected, they will get us much time as they need. Wandy Peralta is gonna come in and warm up. Peralta is gonna get much diamonds. He needs to get ready to go. Just as if there were an injury. We'll have a little bit of a delay hereafter. Starting pitcher for the Giants was kicked out of the game. When it's time for a change. Think speedy oil change in auto service. Your trusted oil changed tune up. And break experts. While Peralta makes his way to the mound will pause for station identification. This is the can be our Northern California Honda dealers radio network, John Miller or between Piper Let become things out here on KNBR, NPR Francisco Fleming, John Miller. Darren Chan, our producer engineer here on this gorgeous San Francisco Thursday. Just beautiful in the Bay Area today. Back to back days of true Northern California weather. What a relief Who knows how long it'll last, but it's It's just So nice to be able to enjoy it today. But the game has not been beautiful for the Giants thus far every game so important at this point James 24 24, barely holding on to that final playoff spot in the National League and down for one of their starting pitcher, has been kicked out for arguing with the umpire. One day Peralta is going to come in on the Toyota out of town scoreboard. There is one game that's already gone final and it was a good result from the Giants. Lay off perspective. The Miami Marlins, who have moved past Philadelphia Into the second spot in the National League East standings and automatic playoff position there. The Marlins still are very much a candidate to be competing with James for that wild card spot, depending on what happens with Philly with the Marlins themselves. And they lost today to the Red Sox at home. 5 to 3. So Miami is now 25 23. Marlins played quite well. They are still in a playoff position, but they lose today. 532 other games that are going on as we speak. In fact, three others Game one of a double header the raise and the Orioles are playing on their in the second inning of Game one. No score the Angels. We're taking it to the Diamondbacks five. Nothing in the top of the third. Down in Anaheim, and in the eighth inning, the White Sox have a 43 leader over the Minnesota Twins. The White Sox who are right on the verge of clinching a playoff spot, not not yet close to clinching the division. But Minnesota's their closest competitor in the division to games back in the American League Central, The White Sox have a chance to clinch today. They leave for three in the top of the eighth inning. On the south side of Chicago. So those are the games on the Toyota out of town scoreboard Toyota let's go places. The other games that are still to come Game two of the doubleheader Rays and the Orioles Pirates will host the Cardinals. The Cardinals Are out of a playoff position as of now, 22 23. But again, it's a team that's right there. So from a Giants fan perspective, you're rooting for the Pirates hard in that game. The Cardinals play in Pittsburgh tonight. The fillies and the Mets Philadelphia, the other team at 24 20 for the other wild card team right now in the National League. They host the Mets later this evening on the East Coast. So that game when the Mets are also one of the teams jockeying with giants, but they're 22 27 so You're prioritizing. Maybe at this point you root for the Mets. Beat Philadelphia. The Yankees host Blue Jays. The Yankees are on a huge tear after their extreme struggles. They've won seven in a row there only three back of the Rays. And their game and a half ahead of the Blue Jays for that second spot, the non wild card spot In the American League. East Tigers will host Cleveland. The Indians are slumping badly. They've lost eight games in a row. I need a win in the worst way. Playing in Detroit tight Houston host Texas and then the Rockies are at home against the Dodgers, who became the first team yesterday to clinch a playoff spot. But still have something to play for. How much is debatable, but they have something to play for their playing in Colorado. 20 games above five under the Rockies. "In the night last night after 11 o'clock giants True story. Guys tend to eight win four different comebacks in the game. Brandon Bell two home runs, including the game tire in the ninth inning. And then that last night from Donovan Solano. Only his second homer. The year was the other one. Ah, walkoff. Also, or was it a It wasn't It was a critical one. I know that it was It was a huge first walkoff. Yeah, Yeah, yeah. By the way, I'm just looking at the Giants, but I'm looking at the box score. Just kind of marveling at its shadow to Longoria for Knox last night, Okay? No. What duties on a nice year, Longoria To 92 Within 8050 p a belt up to 3 13 after four knocks, and then you know what? Three knocks last night. Your guy Brandon Crawford, Polly, So I'm okay with BC I'ma Crawford guy. I'm a fan. I'm a friend of the composure. Whether he's pushing is a baby in a stroller on the morning of the Game seven in Kansas City, or just getting jumping Johnny Cueto and out of AA to Runner Jam last night, weren't there On 2nd and 3rd when he made that great play last night to end the end. What was that? He actually did have an error tonight, Believe it or not straight out. You want to kind of Ah, wonky hop hop on him, and then do the least sexy. Unless you're Sachin, who respects the sexiness of a wandering Peralta. Who knew, dude, By the way, I was like, Well, it was baffled by her interest in. You never know what you might have to get. Irwandi Peralta, Jersey Dude, I was actually we actually had a discussion about this yesterday because you know, picture or players will get their name like embroidered on their glove. Yeah, well, one he's got one and clear line. We'll know it says Peralta wanted Peralta. Whatever. But it's got his number embroidered on there, too. But it ain't the same number. He still got that he's got. What do you think? Jeff Foxworthy. You know you're a redneck when you know you're a journeyman win 53 on his glove. He's running 60 on his bed. Yeah, Hunter Strickland's number like I won't be here long. It doesn't matter. You have glove with wrong number will travel but to They went. They used 10 guys last night, Cueto and the Suarez Trevor got. Where is he? How about Trevor got out there last night. Wandy Peralta, Sam! Holy Mother. A blank kun Rods? Yes, you, Anderson. Caleb Burger, who's Paulie's guy? The Harlan. I cannot speak jury Bart's language. Garcia Tyler. I'm a dude Rogers and then the guy who actually got the wind in the last That was am Sellman. He got that w That was another bizarre thing I was experiencing late at night thrashing about the sheets. As I fell asleep in the bottom of the 11th and and woke up to Miller re capping the well and I'm like, Well what they want and they go. So Sam Selman gets the wind. Like what? Sam Selman. I was like, Am I having a Having some sort of hallucinatory situation. It's all really, dude. Selman. Yeah, Yeah, I got to tell you guys the bullpen went from, you know again, we're talking one week ago was the Trevor got three meltdowns here now you're looking at. You're kind of looking forward to these guys. Troughton and And by the way, Polly They're trotting in from center field. Now that there's a whole new look well, because Gabe is trotting out to the mound is like my skipper's trot, and I better try to everybody's running around out here and by the way, Speaking of running around to get every time I looked up last night, it was Brandon Belt running around the bags. "Here's to another great season of Giants baseball and the power to swing for the Bay Bank of America, the official bank at the San Francisco Giants. Okay. Postgame wrap Part two. We're picking players of the game. I get to lead us off. And since I get to lead us off, I'm taking the guy who led off the game with a home run. Mike extreme ski through two more walks, another home run. He made a great diving catch early in the game when ah Trevor Cahill was a little wobbly, helped his pitcher get through a jam. And he just continues to do 10 things a day to help the Giants win games play well. Michael. So when you lead off the game, that's not bad luck. It's only on the first pitch. As I said before landed, Mike, this is good luck. Just I'm confused by all these, you know whats whats bad luck? What's not We had enough bad luck in Anaheim. So this was good luck. It wasn't on the first pitch of the game, so he was fine. I think giving up a home run in the last pitch of the game. Very bad luck. That's bad luck. Mikey Ostrovsky. He's my guy. Thanks, but we can pick him every every single game. You know, He's just so good that I'm gonna take wanted Peralta. Who needed some love. Look, his last outing Sunday was just ugly. I mean, he faced five guys you gave up for his walk. They all scored. He comes into this game today is your raise of the nines and And he needs to get back into the into that mode of confidence. So what's he do? First guy up ground ball to Crawford Air? Okay. All right. The guy who never makes there's especially with his arm. Then the next guy happy hits. And it's all starting unravel right here. And we're starting to think evil thoughts. It's a 61 ball game at the time. And he gets a one to count and he throws a ball down in gets a ground ball double play, and he managed to get out of the inning. He pushed through an air and they gave us some confidence back. So I'm taking Wandy Peralta. They need him. They needed confidence. And hopefully today got some of back. I'm taking him because he put a zero up in some ways. I mean, Burger and Selma bitch. Clean innings are mostly clean innings and kind of just breeze through in some ways that your right toe single that out just because of the way the whole thing started. And the psychology of this is this stretch for the Giants. A good pick wanted Peralta could pick a job like Kay Pu, you got Trevor Cahill just for being Calm influence out there. He just looked good. So I'm taking Katie. It looks like a guy I grew up in Ocean side. Just kind of beach. You know, Surfer attitude out there. Your ball, who All these occurred today. Good curve. You know, I've seen you looking. He hasn't given a penny runs all the way to give up one toe. Let Stella but Babel's Stella now anyway, Gael, you did a good job. Good pick. John who you got very good. And well, I'm gonna go with Pablo. I mean, hit that one. I remember years ago. When the Felix Rodriguez was with the Giants, and he was pumping in 97 Mile an hour fastballs. And he was facing Ah Eric Caress at Dodger Stadium and he threw a ball up there and caress hit a homerun at Dodger Stadium left center. On a ball up in his eyes, which did just didn't seem possible. And the And then when Pablo does it, it's like, Oh, Pablo, Are you kidding? He did that again, so, but they needed. It was one the one that got that run in the first and then the Angels immediately got it back. On the steles home and then Pablo boom and I mean, Dylan Bundy could he couldn't believe it. Somebody's like He couldn't say. Wow, I made a bad pitch. Dog gone it or somebody didn't make a catcher. I was up in his eyes or you kill me and he hit it out of the park. It means just like Oh, my God. So you know, publicity's together could go up there saying I was looking for it up there. You'd have believed him. Well, I'm sure he'll be looking for it again. At some point, so anyway, Paolo that put him ahead and they never look back from their so problems. My guy, you know, and he later had an R B. I The double was even more impressive. I thought because It was balled away, and he just had a bullet into the gap in left center to knock in a run soon. Awesome problem. Look like Pablo today. I like good pick up. Yeah, that was a two sie fastball away with the upset gap with backspin. He's locked in. It's good to see you. And then the player we give credit to for stellar performance. I'm gonna give it to Crawford. He made that error. But he's swinging the bat so much better, and he had two nice doubles. Drove in from runs started a couple of big double play Did he played solid defense other than the one throwing hey, almost never makes throwing mistakes ever. It seems like all of his errors, you know, make some every once in a while. He drops a ball in a transition or kicks with a ground ball, but never seems to make throwing here. I was thinking about this the other day. And, you know, I bet he's got one of the best. Arms. Of any sport to come out of California in its history. That's how good his arm has been. You just combined strength, accuracy, reliability, all.

"Okay, You still gotta face three batters guy, turn around and go get him next Battery 1007001st. That's all right. Then Tony camp. It's a double to right center. For me, it would have been a short leash. That's when you go get him. Time run is now at the plate, and you saw what happened yesterday when he was not mentally in and enough to make sure he could get the get the outs that were necessary. So Tony Kemp doubles Then he leaves him in Matt Chapman. This one looks better than it did. It actually went down that Chapman lines out to write and Tony can't moves to third, except that he actually hit Max Chapman. The ball hit the bottom of the knob on the bat. It was a freak thing. He did not have the control. He will sit two batters in back to back ninth innings that put the tying run at the plate. Then he walks mad, Olsen. So what's Madison's walked? Ah, is that when you go get him? Are you gonna let him face Mark Anna as the go ahead run at the plate. The answer is yes. The answer is that Gabe Kapler sauce. Alex do tricks and make the air and right field in Colorado instead. After the game, I would do it again. It was the right move, and he did it again. And then he saw Trevor God melt out on Friday night. Hey, was passed his three batter minimum. The go ahead. Run was at the plate and he looked around. He said I would let him face Mark Canha, too. By the way, my question is Why did he face Matt Olsen? Wilson's a lefty. If we're playing the numbers here. And battles and by the way at the time that he came up there. His last six hits had been home runs. Nelson was like was like was like 12 hits on the year. And, like, seven of them are home runs or something stupid like that that Olson is on a terror but you let him face the right handed hitter and again. He didn't do anything except block. Why didn't you bring in the lefty to face medals? And if you do you can in the ballgame right there. You get two hours of right there. I'm looking for you to get out of the inning. Right there instead of mark and it comes up Toni Kempson Barreto's on for Olson. It's a three run shot 7 to 6. A's taking down. This was awful. And then yesterday and again. I know yesterday gotta hand it got on a hand because nobody did anything that got in her hand because Gabe Kapler didn't put his team in a position to be able to stop the bleeding within a ball game. And you can say Juan de Peralta just didn't have it. Logan Web starts the fifth inning. It's 2 to 2. He walks the leadoff guy. Then he gets sent me in a line out. OK, then they bring up Chad Pinder for for Tony Camp. That's all fun, but he decides he's going to go toe. Wandy Peralta Peralta, who has not been very good for the Giants whatsoever. First batter Chad Pinder homerun. Okay, fine. First of all, how many home runs your bullpen gonna give up? That's that's maybe on far on, but he's going to run, guys. You're not tapping guys in situations where they are finding success. Logan Web didn't have it yesterday, either. But right after championed ER match Chapman singles, Olson reaches on a bunt single third Isn't that where you go get him. Then he's faced his three batters. He clearly doesn't have it. He gave up the home run. Here comes Mark Anna, by the way, right handed March. Anna. Let's let the lefty wanted Peralta facing. There's a triple the Deep center Now you're 62. By your 62 instead of stopping the bleeding there instead of going to get him after he's faced four guys and you let the lefty face the right and he hits the ball in the gap, and he takes the lead 62. Let's leave him out there for one more hitter against the switch guy. And what happened then? He walked him walks. Robbie Grossman. Here comes Derek Rodriguez. Then you bring in the righty he faces Chris Davis we gets then Piscotty hits the home run. Now it's nine to now you're done. Now it's over. You're in the fifth inning. Now you're done. You've not stopped the bleeding. You have not helped you guys out. You've got these young arms you're supposed to be protecting and figuring out what's happening with them will go pluck Kevin Gausman fromthe seventh inning, but I'm gonna leave wanted Peralta out there to face Mark Anna, who is tearing the cover off the baseball Right now, This's embarrassing. This is really, really bad, and I don't think that they're managing the players. Correctly. I think they're managing the numbers, and I think that's why he's tenure did not work out in Philadelphia. We're going to continue to discuss this because this is a major problem. Right now it is and you can say Well, it's not an issue because this was a test season. I don't think they're doing a good job with. So how many of these bullpen guys do you anticipate our part of the future of this team? Because I don't think you're think you're preparing these guys well at all 23 home runs a lot by the Giantsbullpen in 21 ball games, leads all of Major League baseball. Lots of text coming in lots of people calling in this morning If you've got thoughts will get to him. Long weekend Giants baseball, a brutal one to get through yesterday 15 to 3. I played a round of golf. I get off the Lynx yesterday and I flip on the game and I got Tyler hide and hope they're flipping up pitches. Hey, Best thing about Heidemann. If he's on the mound, he can't commit a catcher's interfered more coming up. We're talking more Gabe Kapler, and we'll get some reaction from him after yesterday's game. He's gotta answer for some of this stuff. What are you going to do to stop this bleeding? Are things going to get really, really out of hand? But are we just supposed to say Well, it's 2020. It's a rebuild. It shouldn't matter. It still matters to me. We'll get some work. Dave Chappelle shot on the other side again. Your text in your calls for 158 away..

Really afraid of Susan. So oh, that's good to know. You've built up enough street cred when you file a story there ain't some 2022 year old kid at SF State ain't touching Henry showman's giants. No way there you You better. You know what you're like. Hey, buddy, I saw tiny Felder at Candlestick Park. You can't tell me how to write this thing. All right, Hymie, Felder. Okay. Hey, Willie Mac Award winner, right. Right, Right. He's actually you must see tiny around. You want to talk about one of the all time? Good guys. Tiny Felder. Yeah, he really wass. He was one of those that they long run of Good guy Award or I'm sorry. Pulling back winners. Who? You know if you want. It was the kiss of death. You were gone the next year. Um, it was almost like it was. It was like clockwork. Almost so that in the various Jordan awards, they give out spray train, which is now the Barney delusional or you don't want to win that. A man. No dough. That's a curse. It's the kiss of death. Okay, so little Macro. Look here. The Giants Henry, 1/3 of the way through the season. Right. Here we go. 20 games down. 42 Go quote unquote in the playoff hunt. But if you had to describe this team, you know 20 games in to somebody who you know, came out of AA Desert Island and didn't know there was a pandemic. You know who are these? 2020 Giants? Placeholders. I think it's a good words, you know, I think that I mean, if you had one word Look, this is a rebuilding team. And if you look at the timetable of what you know, you would hope the time chamber would have been in a normal year. You know, last year they're losing record, but it was all better near before. This year would have been the year that maybe you hope they had, like a 2009 surprise where some of the prospects will be coming up by by around now and maybe show you something for the next year and then You know, maybe by 2021 yet, you know, you start to hope that maybe you can sneak into the playoffs as a wild card, But I mean, you know, the joy bar question remains huge. But this is a team that It really doesn't didn't have a way for the prospects to kind of get ready this here, so it's a year where you're still you're looking at a whole new bullpen, a whole bunch of big arms trying to see which one of these guys could stick. Um, you're looking at, you know you're trying to get some of your guys who are in the organization already. A few guys from the outside, see if there's some pieces and then you hope toe. Winnow it down. So that next year in 2121 you'll have the basis of a team. We start seeing the Ramos is in the Bart. You know, maybe even the Luciano will Wilson Guys have Actually, it's the picture The really tall 6 11 deli, right telly Right on Dumpster aged there, you know you hope that you take you know you'd taken Austin Slater and a Wandy Peralta, you go. Okay. These were guys who can You know, really help us down the road, then put them on the team next year with your You know your Sean jellies that you're Joey bars and all that, you know, you start start maybe seeing a little excitement, but this year, you know, it's it's They say they want to win, But to me, it's you know, it's trying to get through the schedule and evaluate Get Giants A's Tonight. Johnny Cueto against Frankie Montas. Frankie Montas Ale Player of the Week. And What do you make of Ah capital announcing, and he's going to join us today. By the way, at 9 45 he went ahead and announce his starters this weekend and he hasn't done that all year. What? Why do you do that? I I don't know. He must have had his brakes pipe Theo whiskey that we saw draining game if you're listening, gay bomb. Uh, yeah. You know what they finally have a rotation? That's why In the beginning of the year. They did at the beginning of the year. With all these guys going fewer pitches, um, you know, building up if you're only gonna have a guy throw 50 pitches to start. You know, maybe you know you You might need one of those guys. If another guy only goes in and maybe get one of these other guys out and have a belief or maybe you want to use an opener. Ah and upset your pictures a little differently. Maybe how gals coming in the middle of the game, And I think that may have actually happened once it happened with Smiley in Los Angeles. So you really didn't know what the next day starter is going to look, Lou, the next day starter would be until You know, you figured out how you got through the game and part of it was competitive. You know, Part of it was. I mean, Dave Roberts said It was gamesmanship in a little bit little bit, wass. But now look, I mean, you have Cueto. Followed by thousands followed by Web followed by Anderson. You have four starters. You know, these guys are all now throwing can all throw 80 90 pitches. You might as well put them in a rotation and actually The pitching matchups for this weekend. A really fantastic when you look at all three of them. Very much. So for sure on your right so that it kind of makes sense You got you got you got quite a you've got Gausman. He got Web and you don't like what you've seen with all these guys. And so he does. I wonder it forward. Yeah, You're just you're not going. I mean, there's no trickle. You can't. There's no trickery right now. I mean, you know, these guys were gonna pitch in turn. You're not going. Take one dying, move him up after throwing 80 pictures and take the other guy and moving back. It's going you could have with the office if you want to, But, you know, still the little excitement. You know, it's going to be quite a montage. It's going to be It's going to be owes. Ardo versus Gausman. It's going to be Logan Web versus Shaman IA A. Let's have a Siri's Yeah, for sure. And giants And don't forget, Henry. They're playing for the trophy. You know, I mean, Oh, yeah, Yeah. Yeah, that's somebody has something that they show on the end of the game for 30 seconds that none of the players wants to go out and get you guys I know. Okay. It was if you win it you have to. I don't know you can't. You can't go out for a ceremony because you got a distance or something. I don't know. "I'll just start with a few minutes. We have left it in my Let's just start it all comes back to pitching. And it was Affeldt, Cassia, Romo and Lopez back in the day, right? And now this performance by this bullpen last night, the six guys they threw out there from from Trevor got the new closer to Tyler Rogers, who had to get through a hairy situation. So Rico Garcia to Sean Anderson, who you compared to Rob Nan, which was incredible toe, Wandy Peralta. So Rico Garcia, like I don't want to stay after one night, A bullpen was born, but Sam Kun. Rod, I didn't mention there was there was some eye opening stuff. Ah, And I mean stuff both like big picture and small picture stuff. You tell me, Mike, is this bullpen sort of born last night? Well, I think it actually happened in the exhibition. Siri's against the ace when they went Back to back days, and each day they had nine guys throw And you could see some confidence coming in. And here's the deal. No, we shot we saw Sean Anderson. We saw him as a starter. Then he had put the pan and then we saw. You know a guy who's got a good slider, but throw too many of them in the more it. Throw the First they got and he was afraid of his fastball on was in on. It wasn't happening. And I said this when he came in the game on sad on Saturday is like Ah, this is good. I didn't have any confidence in him. And then Saturday, Saturday's game he goes in there. And He's throwing 95 96. He's got a changeup. So where the hell did this come from? He's gotta change. Now. A sudden the changes that he can throw a fast ball accounts gives him another look another speed. It gives them confidence to get that fastball in the strike zone. It's ludicrous to me to think I could go 96 97 not have Have the courage that killed in the strike zone. But that's what had happened to him. Now, You said the change of allows him to go back in the strike zone with the fastball, and now he's got two looks, and now he saves his best pitch, which is the slider enough going 345 times in a row. He's saving it. And when he does that thing up there, it's breaking anywhere from 80 to 91 miles. Pereira was straight down by CIA later we watch guys last night's ballgame into accounts. Completely sitting on the fastball from the guy. He goes, the slider. It bounces on home plate, and they're swinging at it. And that tells me that that that that slider is his deceptive. It gives the appearance of the fastball and then it disappears late. Wow, that guy got tightened up. And then you look at Kun Ride confront another guy. He stole 99 he's thrown another straight down by sliders. Where did that come from? He got tightened up. Juan de Peralta, who always had good arm. He's throwing 95 97 with a fastball. It is curb on the side. You couldn't tell the difference. Now you can. He had tightened up. Rico Garcia or disk. I come from This guy's 59 £200. Andi and he's got arm speed like Trevor. God, it is on you. And he's throwing 95 97 with an overhand curveball. Changeup. Where did they get this guy? I mean, the guy that we were highest Thomas. The guy we're most concerned about now is tired of Rodgers and he simply had a lot of bad luck. You want to be in the hero last night? So they've got so many good stories. Burger work. This guy come from the left Heathrow in mid nineties with a big curve ball. Oh, my God, and he's got some attitude. Where did this guy come from? So you Andrew Bailey, the Giants pitching coach, and they have three guys down there working on him. And they're making them better..

"It. And you know there's no so I'm just wondering, you know. How realistic is it for Gabe capper to mix and match a ton of different arms in a 60 game season? Like like, I mean, how much of that was just Hey, I'm getting some work for my guys and how much of that was Yeah, we're going to be using a lot of different arms in a short season. Well, Yes. Yes. And yes. I mean, they're definitely they use a lot of arms. I mean, get used to it. You're not going to see Ah, lot of what we've seen traditionally in the set up of how they're going to go about trying to figure out who's going How they're going. Cover nine innings on a game. And I think a lot of his out of necessity. This is a short stunted prep time. Pitchers haven't really established themselves to be able to go 75 85 110 pitches. Which traditionally when you break camp, you would have the ability to do so. Because of that. You're gonna have your gonna ask your pictures to go about it a different way you go, go the idea. You know you go as long as you can. It's hard skin. 345 innings. That's fine for starters. And and that maybe the that may be what they do the entire year. And this is the key. I think that this is what they had envisioned doing. Had the season started in March. If it's right out of the traditional spring training, I think they would have gone out of this way. The fact that it now really applies to the 60 season of the 60 game season. I think it only makes it easier from the make to make this call. This is what you're going to see. And you're going to see a lot of platooning with the everyday players, the versatility and the creativity. I think those are two words We talked about it yesterday get capital in a pregame chat. And he said, those two words are so essential to our philosophy of baseball, especially this year, so be ready for it. I'm going to move it around. I've never seen Two days in a row. We had nine pitchers in each game. And guess what? They didn't have a train wreck in any day that itself was unbelievable. Nobody had that They didn't have to call in a really, but we never saw Andrew Bailey. We never saw a pitching change. What do you know how they're going to do it? It's ah, so I thought that was pretty unique. But, you know, I think that the idea to get him all in was to get him all in against Ah, team that didn't wear their uniform and I started out with significant A different deal. Then when you're pitching in underscored games, so I thought that the importance that they felt that it was was of significance, so, but they're all ready to go and they're all together. That's the other thing. They're all on board. They have absolutely had a great camp, and they're ready to start their season to your point about the no train wreck. I forget who it was. On Monday night in Oakland. A guy walks on Caleb Ara Gar whatever. Like he walked a guy and I was like, what's going on here? He he walked a guy. I mean, James Pritchard were so airtight in this thing If you walked a guy you stood out, you know, I mean, it was really impressive. If I just throw that nine names from last night Rodgersmen EZ, Danny Jimenez, Wandy Peralta, Angie Suarez, Sam Kun, Red Triggs, Sam Selman and then Wolf Att. The end of the nine just if you could pick one of those guys was it Rogers because he took on three great hitters and And is he the closer and closer opening all that? Well, I still have a chance to close from games. He's definitely late inning guy. Um, you know, I thought that Selman I mean, he struck out three guys. You know? What do we know about Sam Selman? Well, You got a pretty good look at him last night. Will he be on the 30? I don't know. But I'd say the guy's just saw last night's ballgame, Probably three that are going to be on the 30 man. It's pretty unique. You know, they're going to head down to l A with 30 and then you have three more guys. The taxi squad two. You could have three guys as long as one of them has to be a catcher. So you know they're traveling with 33 guys. Stay tuned. This is gonna be based by like we never saw it right? And, uh and you will not see a complete game this year from the Giants. Things happen. That's it right there. Okay, There's one bet in life. There's not a complete game. You would Mike in a regular season. You wouldn't see that now in this. Forget it, man, so and then, to see you as an Dickerson go deep. You know, Like you said, the ball seems to be playing live. The Pender Homer showed that even though he got robbed of a home run by a strange call from the Empire's But you know, you guys talk to you as in the dugout and he was a little hard on himself saying, Yeah, I didn't like my spring man, and you ask him how he's feeling. He's like, Well, not good until that swing in the first inning, so but there is a little mean. Of course, there's heat on everybody, but he has a job. But he also you know, needs to repeat what he did last year, which he's never done in his life. So just kind of how important that was for him what you think of his chances And will he be in everyday player? Will the Giants even have an everyday player? I think he's the guy that has the best chance of being the only Everyday player. You know, I love that guy. I mean, look, he's 27 years old last year, getting big legs and he got he got Chun. They turned their organizational back in order and in Baltimore. I mean, he got surpassed by guys that he knew he was better than he had just wear it. He came over took a chance in the Giants Organization loan. Behold against the big leagues, and then his story why we use in the big leagues. You know, he did pretty good. Then that day in Milwaukee, where he was going to get sent down. They called him in. Sit him down. And all of a sudden, Austin Slater has the flu and the AG O get. Ah, Rimsky back and vote. You put him back in the land that he had three. Maybe four hits that day, and that was it. Never left it right. But with all the success that he had last year, the 21 homerun season and believed he was the highlight of your spars. We're all concerned. He comes back this year for the first time, and he's got a job. She's never had before. But he doesn't trust it. He doesn't trust it. He's not going to sit back that dumb and happy and rest on his laurels. He's going to prove himself again, which is the essence of the.
