"It's really thinking about are we number one for each and every student have we met their needs. Are we centering the various identities at our school? And are we a generative place that meets Their social emotional needs that meets their academic needs s. Oh, that's really where my focus is. But don't you want your kid to go to this school? Don't you want her to be your principal? You're making me want to go back to school, But I have to say I want to make sure that I say that in order to get that number four ranking. First of all, we have amazing students who show up with so much that to bring we have an incredible staff are teachers and non classroom teachers. I just worked so hard on behalf of students, and we get an amazing amount of support from from family. So it really is a community effort. Kids learning at home right now or hybrid. How are they doing it? So? So we have students in hybrid our often rate for the CPS was actually the highest for any high school in the district. So in our first week of hybrid, we had a little over 60% of our students return for at least one And I expect that number to creep up a little bit as we've had about 70% of our students. Often as more of our students get their vaccine. I think that we'll see them through the door. But it was a wonderful week last week to welcome students back into the building and for me as a newer principle that have students in the building for the first time was just that celebratory moment for us. We're losing a congressional seat will talk to a Congress man, Darin LaHood from Peoria. Some, you know they could they could rewrite it so he didn't have a job or wouldn't get re elected to the newly drawn district if they liked and I would imagine widely. Democrats would have no trouble doing that to the Republicans given the opportunity, but somebody's gonna be out of a job. We will not have all of those Congress, people will have one fewer. Could that be Adam Kinzinger Ear's district? Could he be a stout Republicans out his way, though they voted for him previously weren't happy about what he said about the impeachment process of the previous president, so maybe they'll pencil him out. Then there's that. Crazy congresswoman down state. Whose whose name I think I can recall, But I'm not even gonna give her the credit for being called a Congress person right now. She's um There's writing that maybe they'll try and ask her out. "Let's visit with Lord distorted over a channel nine and Lords keep hearing that promo that the Ben Bradley Please don't touch me. Don't touch me. No, my case. Yeah. I mean, I laugh even though it's gonna be a great special. I'm looking forward because it really is. You guys have done some amazing work. And this this encompasses Hominy Hominy. How much that the whole year or what I'm talking about What we were thinking is a look back at the last year of stories that we've put together and sort of update people on some of those stories, one of them being the sum of the Is that they've had at the Illinois Department of Employment Security with the identity theft, and you know the people not being able to get through the call center. So we update folks on what's going on what the outcome has been on those stories. So you've got like three or four pieces from Ben three or four pieces from myself, and I think it's It's a good way to kind of move for move the ball forward right on some of these stories that maybe people may have forgotten about so you'll see him tonight at seven. P.m. on WGN would remind me what was the Please don't touch me reporting and because I know he told me about it. I can't. I can't remember. All I can think about is the Please don't touch me. Yeah, that's all I can think about is well, it was get out of my head cameras. And it was, Was it Markham? No. Yeah, it was, wasn't it? Okay? Yeah. Suburbs for sure, that definitely definitely so you'll you'll see that story again. And then he'll update you on what's happening, Okay, we'll see all those and that's tonight at that's tonight at seven o'clock on WGN. It's an hour long special. So please watch it right after the newscast. If you like it, we'll do it again. How cool is that? Channel Nine has this kind of real estate to offer you know, for really cool special local reporting in local sort of pieces. It's It's a very cool opportunity in prime time. Yeah, yeah, I think for Yeah, A lot of the other stations just don't have that time and that space to devote. I think to some of the local stories and have you know an hour of programming that we can fill with whatever we've got, or whatever we want, really. S Oh, yeah. They give us an opportunity to put it together. And we both were like, Yeah, and our producers. Maybe we're not too happy with us. Because we said here's more work for you. Here you go. You have a bunch of things I'd like to see and go ahead and do that. Okay. Yeah. Okay, fine. I'm looking forward to. So that's awesome. What else is going on over there? Okay. So before that comes up at seven P.m. tonight, we're gonna be talking about this. You saw the CDC, the new guidelines on masks and what they're saying, And I think you guys were talking about it earlier. What they're saying is that you know if you're doing any outdoor activities in the past, they recommended and they wanted you to wear a mask. They're saying they're saying, Look, that's no longer the case if you are fully vaccinated, and if You're going to be outside? Not with a large group of people meaning you're not going to be a concert. You're not gonna be you know, at an outdoor theater. If those things are all true, then you don't Have to wear a mask anymore. So that's kind of some good news right for folks. I think I feel there's a lot of people that perhaps they were out. They were walking their dog. They were out taking a jog. I don't think many of them were necessarily wearing a mask, right? No, I think I think it's already kind of being done in such good hearing cases, right if you're just kind of by yourself, and you walking around that you weren't doing it. I think this sort of just allows people to Feels feel okay for a few okay with it, And I just wonder hit even out today if you noticed it at all. Have you noticed any difference? I have not. I have not enough. Nothing different. As of today. I also have been stuck in here. Pretty fear, right? But Yeah, as if, as of this afternoon. I didn't notice anything. Here's an interesting thing that After our walk he talked about, she said that there's this possibility of what they're calling of ax past. Have you heard about this? And I know nationwide. There's been a little bit of controversy over it, she said, were never going to require people or residents to get vaccinated. But what we will do and what we're talking about doing is that perhaps if you want to go to a theater, let's say or you want to go to one of these outdoor concerts, we might Require what they call vax past meaning that you show proof that you've been vaccinated says If you want to be part of the fun, then you're gonna have to get vaccinated. So that's something that they're exploring and looking at, and that we may hear a little bit more about in the coming days. So did she say that that would be pretty soon when that would happen or she didn't want a timeline on that She didn't give us an exact timeline. She was kind of treading lightly around the subject. But she did say that it is something that they're considering. She didn't give a timeline to set in the coming days. You could start to see more things begin to re open so you might see things. Is starting to dial up when it comes to some of the reopening plans for whether that's restaurant or whether that's concerts or venues or festivals. That's yet to be seen, but that is something that they're considering. Yeah, it seems like the trying to link it to special privileges and things like that and trying to motivate people. You almost get the banks as an incentive to get vaccinated. I thought she put it the way she put it made. I think made a lot of people under ships to understand. If you wanna be a part of the fun you're gonna have to get vaccinated. Anything else. You got anything else? Let's see we've got. Did you see the story about the top Chicago public high schools? Five of them have made the top 100 list in U. S News and World report So I will take those two. You look, let's hear it. Walter Payton College was number nine last year. I know it's now in the fourth place, so top five Northside College Prep Jones College Prep. Whitney Young also made the list and lane Tech go lingo. Did you go to Les NTAC? I went to the attack. I did. Yes, I did. And it was an awesome school. Then I hear from folks who have kids there. Now they say that it's still in awesome school now and it's AH gets up there. What number? Was it again? Latex? You know, I didn't write them down. Do you want? I don't know. It's in the top. Top 1 100. That's a pretty darn cool place to be in the United States of America. That's really cool. No kidding. Okay. Hey, I did notice on the W..

"Chevy Silverado Drive. What 99 drives Kaze. We're talking playoffs all night. The optimism has been flowing from the microphones. I'm not even kidding, by the way. We got two guys. I'm serious Obese, calling it the Super Bowl this week against men in Minnesota. You want to join in the optimism or where you at my friend happy they won How's that? And I'm happy for bear fans because we've watched them horrible football for a while, and it's good to see him finally win and play well, So you know, kudos to the defense. I mean across the board. They played well and it was good. That's all. Well, couple of things. You you're bringing up the defense and We'll see what we will see what the offense the Minnesota defense ranks somewhere about 17 18. Then there's nothing to speak of, but It seems to me like, you know, Mike Zimmer's always seems to come up with a scheme that gives us problems. It's in my mind about whether or not our defense can rebound again. You know they had finally a good game to Shawn Watson. Had a bad offensive line and nobody to throw too. So they look pretty good. Had seven sacks most we've had in five years. But Minnesota's pretty good. You know, they've got this young rookie Jefferson who hit us for about a buck 30, some Back in November. We know that Dalvin cook. It is as good as you let him be, Um Do you think that this is a game? Whether you know the Viking setting it? The number eight position at six and seven. Uh they're gonna approach this just like the Bears. This is ah playoff game and obey his word that For whatever reason, the bears may go in there strutting around acting like, well, you know, did you see who we are? What we did last week and the next thing you know the Vikings jump on us. He's right. I mean, you know it. Uh, it was a great win against Houston. But Houston basically cast out for the year. Disappoint to see that quarterback place a portly but when you don't have any protection, you're gonna play poorly. So Um I'm thrilled for bear fans. You know, we're now we're six and seven were back in the hunt, I guess is what we're calling it, but It's a mini Super Bowl. You win this you get to live for the next week. We got low bar around here. I am thrilled for bears fans that were six and seven and ever 14% chance of the playoffs. I'm so happy that we're not comported eliminated with three weeks to go, Congratulations, way to be a die hard. Yeah. I mean, think about what we're saying here and it it is. It's sad, but it's true. I mean, what else can we say? Um, you know, you were five and one at one point. I'll never understand it. I well, we understand what happened, but there's nothing we can do to change it Other than you need, Um you need to make changes at the top and work down and that's it. Glenn Simple. Let me ask you a question, I said earlier. In the show. They're talking if we win if he wins, two of the next three, I'm talking about Maggie and this patient all that and it doesn't matter. What they have to because what you saw this year and you saw last year and the year before, if you don't make a clean sweep. And get some new young talent in here. Thinks outside the box. And put this situation together. Guarantee you, Glenn. Next year at this time, will be saying the same damn things with pace hair and with Maggie here. They can't think outside the box. There's when it's something when Maggie try something new with some unbelievable kind of a trick play, and more often than not, that's when those trick plays blow up in your face. But I'll tell you, my belief is no matter what happens, they have to go. You got to get young, new creative faces in here with theories that think outside the box and that are positive. Not this every week. The same thing with this guy Nagy with all that, You know what it's done. It's enough. We've seen enough of this story. It's nonsense, said You're right. It's time to make a change that not even care of its older people. Literally. To me. It doesn't matter. Just bring in football people. Guys that can think and understand the game of football identified talent and then actually take that talent and apply it and use it. I mean, how long have we been pounding the ground about using the tight end from command kid from Arlington Heights and all of a sudden they used? Guess what happens? They win a game. They blow a team out. Isn't that crazy? It's gonna call in with Ka zero b. He's been waiting patiently, Bob, you've been on hold for over half an hour. Thank you for being patient. Welcome to WGN. Go ahead, man. Hey, Thank you guys. Yeah. Hey, I just want to say I got a quick comment in a couple of real quick questions if I can, first of all, it's an absolute honor to talk to you guys given what you've done for the city of Chicago. It's a pleasure and ham Pi got a something you might like. I I have a high school boy that's playing football. Walter Payton College prep. And, uh, well, they're not playing football now because there's no football in Chicago. But in any case, none existed anymore. Right? We display case in there. In that case, they have a little statues of a couple of fellas. 99th one of them. When I first saw that I had a lump in my throat. Wow. So pleasure to talk to you guys. Thank you. Couple quick questions. You know, At some point on Sunday, they flashed the League leaders Sunday night, and I think Montgomery was like fourth leading Russia that at the time, and the three guys in front of them 26 carries 29 carries 20 carries and he had 11. And I'm scratching my head trying to figure out why we not giving the sky the ball And I'm wondering, Is Maggie spreading the ball around to the tavern? One else to make sure that one gets incentives, other incentives that they get paid on if they get a certain amount of touches or whatever. If that's the case that tells me that Meggie it's more important to him that these players like him and his buddies with him and actually winning games because I get it seems like there's two or three things more important to him than winning games right now, And my second question was, Do you guys know what the hockey says to them at halftime? Because they come out of the they come out of the tunnel. There, there the flat of team in the NFL. I mean, they're like he's like the anti rock me, you know, so.

I just saw a huge streak of Something like a shooting star in the sky towards the east. Did anyone else see this? It was the biggest thing I've ever seen Shooting in the sky. All right, well, we hope that's what it was. And nothing ominous. Let's go. Team hacker and phone line gets of extremely local news from Black Club Chicago High Shame is to me how you doing today? Good morning, Bob. How are you going to go Look for that shooting star, and I think it's too late. Let's talk about What's happening on the near North side, a big mega development plan and do we think this is actually gonna happen? I think it's got a very good chance. And you know the story to me. Here is the creep of the really dense part of downtown is heading further north and further West. This is property that's currently owned by the Moody Bible Institute, just north of Chicago Avenue and the Brown line tracks around well, Street is pretty low rises over there now to three storey buildings. The college owns a big chunk of the land over there, but they are in the process of selling this to development company that's going to put up some pretty Hauled towers. They're the biggest one would be 55 storeys. There'd be a 47 storey one in a 44 story one all told, will be about almost 2700 apart new apartments and into that area, So it's It's quite in ambitious plan. You know the, uh the fact that we're in a pandemic is not slowing down. On this development company from at least pushing the the development and the plans forward and they try to win over the the neighbors and the aldermen and everyone else. That, in theory could have say how this thing turns out. What is it? It's eight acres. Right. It's eight acres. They're calling it North Union for now on gets really, You know if you can picture when the brown line is really entering the downtown takes a couple curves. You see Walter Payton College prep football Field Stadium, right? Anyone in school right there. It's all in that little area right before you hit the Chicago Avenue Brown line stop. So it's a yes, it's a huge area. There's going It's um retail in it, but it's really the crux of it. It's going to be these thes apartment towers and about an acre in some change of park land that they're going to add at the base of them. Yeah, pretty prime real estate. Let's go up north a little bit further. 53 06 North Clark. Georges ice cream and sweets. They got an interesting contest going, Don't they write? This is kind of fun, And I guess it's just not limited. Tio Tio Anderson buildings anywhere. Your listeners came here because you know, a lot of us will be doing this. What are interesting ways to distribute Halloween candy Saturday? If you're doing it, I know it's a touchy subject because we all have to be careful, but Georges Ice Cream and Sweets is challenging anyone to come up with the most creative way to distribute the candy Tio kids coming by whether it's PVC tubes hooked up Tio to your front door that you could run it down to them right into their bucket. One of the best ideas, they said. They've seen the intricate Polly system that goes from the front door all the way out to the sidewalk where they could wheel it out to him and dump it to the kids. They're really just trying to get people thinking about ways to stay 6 ft away, but still keep some of the The spirit of Halloween. So you know it's not a huge prize. But you know, five pints of Ah Georges Ice cream is nothing Tio shake a stick at it, and it's just Yeah, just kind of a fun way. Teo get people thinking and get creative. I've yet to build anything myself, but it's got me thinking it's got a lot of people thinking. And let's talk a little bit about what's going on up on Divine Avenue. With West Ridge residents making their case to trader Joe's executives. The trader Joe's people have to love this. Yeah, I'm constantly amazed the Trader Joe's fan base and the sort of the measures that they take to bring Ah, Trader Joe's store into their neighborhood. We've seen it around seeing around the country, even in Chicago Books in Logan Square, tried to get one unsuccessfully, the latest push it in When you want to be a company that people are signing petitions to have you come into their neighborhood, but That's where Trader Joe stands. The folks of Westridge from the far North Side have a petition going back by the Western Chamber commerce, begging, basically begging Trader Joe's to bring a store into their diverse neighborhood. They think Trader Joe's diverse offerings that their culture section would be a perfect fit for for Westridge, so they're really, really begging Trader Joe's Who's match has been pretty silent on the topic. They don't have a specific location planned out, but divine avenues. Obviously a busy stretch. There's lots of there's lots of potential spots for it. But But, yes, people are Western folks taking turns driving all the way up to Evanston to get there to get their frozen frozen trader Joe's meals or the fresh produce or just kind of a lot of the fun things that That that that shame is known for. You know, their employees are always in a good mood, so they're doing something right there. Trader Joe's aren't there. Yeah, Absolutely. Yeah. You're absolutely right. They've got those little tiny checkout counters. I would think that would stress me out of those working check out. But yes, they're always very happy. And I'm pleased to see you. So good luck. "Getting a lot of lot of response on the text line to this question of our schools overreacting is the okay signed being overblown. A lot of people claiming we are we are taking our position because we are white. You know what I am white? I there's nothing I can do about it this how I was born. I'm white, but I'm also I'm also sensitive to issues. I'm somebody, somebody texted it's about. It's not about the people throwing the sign. It's about the targets of racism. I understand that. And while I while I am not a target of racism, I can. Understand, to a point, what it must be like, I have not had to deal I have not had to deal with that. But my point remains that on a high school level. I think a lot of this is for shock value. It is not legitimate. It is not. I'm guessing that those kids in those pictures, and I may listen if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I'm guessing those kids that are throwing them are either doing them for another reason. Or if confronted would not would not share the beliefs that they are being told now to quote the principle of Walter Payton college prep, Tim Devine. He sent a letter Wednesday to students, faculty and parents, that he did not believe the students pictured playing the circle game in six yearbook photos intended to convey a racist message, quote, let me be clear. It is fully believed that the intent of the students in the photographs was to be playful as the circle game was actively being played around many campuses this academic year, including ours, and quote. So that is the principle of one of the high schools saying, okay, listen, it's not it's not what everybody's making it out to my reason for bringing this up. Is not to diminish racism, my reason for bringing this up is is to say. And if you haven't followed it to this point, I don't know what to tell you. We need to be cognizant of real signals of trouble real signals of racism, we don't need to take something that was a meant as a prank an insult to liberals and turn it into something horrendous. We need to investigate the high schools need to investigate, and they need to move on. And that's it. Letting angry tax a lot of angry tax a lot from a lot from two or the same couple of the same numbers, I like what you brought up though about about the real issues. Right. And so this whole thing stemmed from some internet trolls, and a very toxic community on the internet. Right. All right. So then then it was picked up by some less than reputable news. Sources and spread as gospel. And then it has moved onto it is moved onto other places. Am I saying that there are? No people who now have adopted it. And that is true belief. No, of course not. But I think in the majority of these cases, and the high schools are investigating them that is not what's going on. And we can we can choose to always believe the worst, or we can choose to actually do some investigating, and then believe when people in the thorny in those schools, tell us that's not what it was. We can choose to believe them. You know. I go my thing is so a bunch of trolls on the internet, people that just wanted to cause a ruckus, they make this common sign suddenly means something else. Right. So then it gets printed into your book by accident. So then we pay fifty thousand dollars in one case three print, these yearbooks who wins who wins. Is it the internet trolls that just cost our education system fifty thousand dollars or is it the people that now are less likely to be like offended or upset over a signal that isn't definitively associated with any of this, but kind of can be made the case that it is based on what a few people on the internet decided like if I go on the internet anonymously and just decide that like high fives or thumbs up mean something like that did not see symbol, then like begin a ban high fives from television and thumbs just suddenly like who gets to be in charge of what we are. Aren't allowed to say we're just going to let a small group of people say like oh yeah. Well, this comments that people have been using for literally at least my entire life, probably years. Fifty years, one hundred years. So this handful of anonymous trolls on the internet can just who they could be Russians fro you know, you know, anywhere anyone and they get to decide and it's gonna get cost us all this money like I like, I like, we both think racism is abhorrent. Yes, we're not. Shouldn't even have to go. But, but in this climate, we have we, we have to clarify it. And yet, when we clarify, it, it doesn't matter because, you know. Oh, you're, you're clarifying it a little too much, right? And you took a stance that is different than mine. So you must automatically then be a proponent of what you've taken the stance for. Yeah, we're allowed to be on the same side. But think that there are different tactics to achieve our voice, and we also have to remember that kids can be obnoxious, and just like other forms of rebellion. Now they know they're going to get a rise out of people. And so they're doing it for that reason they are not doing it. For racial purposes. They know that it's they know that, that's what it's going to be perceived. If they don't really believe it, we have to watch out for. We have to watch for the real red flags. We have to watch for the real incidence when things are really happening, and we have to do, we have to be sensitive to people who say were offended by that. Yes. But we go back to the old everything that offends you cannot be taken away. Now that does not include me, calling someone a racial slur. Yes. We we because I don't, I don't know how many people aren't offended by that. But that shouldn't be. It's a big topic. A lot of people very upset on, on the text line. But we're going to move on. We're going to do the news. And after the news, we're gonna talk to state rep and Williams. Oh, I'm sure I'm sure every state legislature legislator, has people who are very, very upset with them as well. But we'll talk to a Representative an Williams on the other side of news. Find out what happened in this big final week of session in Springfield, three one two nine one seven two hundred is our number right now at five thirty. It's time for the news. Here's Pam Jones. Thank you casino gambling in Chicago. Just one step closer to reality this afternoon. The Illinois state Senate approved a widespread gambling expansion Bill that legalizes sports betting across the state and authorizes Chicago casino working in legislative overtime. The Senate approved the measure on a forty six to ten vote it now heads to governor, Jay Pritzker who has already signaled his support for the plan..
