"Eight forty in the morning and for those you would now where they sprung forward but we're aware here in the living room because we've been keeping you aware of the time change for thirty three years that's how long we've been here before I go back to the phones that meat is dropped this piece in Florida state is the ACC champion this season congratulations to coach Leonard Hamilton for those of you in Camden do you remember who lived in Hamilton growing up in Camden mostly you are not aware Linda Hamilton has one of the unique tracks in coaching and a history of NCAA basketball he's one of the all time great recruiters at Kentucky when Kentucky was looking for a basketball coach they said the coastline and how much are we can't hire you because you're black so they got in position at Oklahoma state and he use that S. is vehicle as we navigate himself through coaching and then ending up at Florida state where he now has them as the champions of the ACC tournament I'm gonna see if we can get coast Linda Hamilton before the NCAA tournament is over in the living room he's a Camden guy we want to get him in the living room we're gonna go back to the phones and we're going to say good morning to Nelson in Pennsauken good morning Nelson hi Sally how are you this wonderful great talking to you later I'm just going to take you back on the ninety year old because I just turned seventy nine all right because I'm four years old and hide out and my brother is a fifty two graduate of north east he's eighty five years hello no he's not your hero he only be only did bowling no no I'm saying he went to northeast high school AS eight you know I know I know I was in a a sensationally high always and and that's right and I lived through his years of enjoying all the athletes that came out of the northeast at that time that you were involved with okay and people don't remember them and I'm going to leave off with because I could throw out names but what I wanted to specifically talk about what is your glory days playing in the eastern basketball league because I happen to be a fan of the Camden bullets when they played in convention hall again before that we had the ice house in Cambodia it whenever it rains I came to the area and I was a part of that franchise for two years at triton and I remember on the weekends going there and seeing all the wonderful ball at basketball players I remember vividly saying Paul I was in play that's right leading up and down the court only on defense he never we thought office he was rated you know that's really all that's that's the story or poem and there's some ball players that you're out which you're the only one that what you're the only one that would remember this because I remember nostalgia and then you remember it's very very well but I remember Walter Duke's playing yes I remember you won't need a job that's right so all the walls and I are you I miss I miss season baseball league and I don't know what happened or why because they are wonderful ball players they were extra special ball players a lot of the players that played on the warriors it was just a fun type of situation so I'll I'll leave you talk about the your glory days okay and I appreciate talking to you well thank you Nelson I'll speak to why the Houston basketball league for you I was fortunate enough that I had a ten year career in eastern basketball league starting in nineteen fifty eight three years after I graduated from northeast high school I matriculated to such a state college in Ohio and then I got the opportunity playing Houston basketball league so I took that opportunity in nineteen fifty eight and and use that for ten years and I had the privilege and pleasure of playing against some of the greatest players of that era some of those players were players who got caught in the scandal in nineteen fifty god late eight Warner and Floyd lane it Roman they all play for CC and why they want to double championship in nineteen fifty when the big tournament was in New York in the end the NCAA tournament was secondary but they won both championships the only team to have I accomplished that I played against some of the great players of that era Bob bill Spivey Ralph beer to the players that play for Kentucky when they won championships and got caught in the scandal as well played against a great how Lear my mentor play for the eastern medicines with a team that had check gains and while the choice three guys who average almost a hundred points a game between the three of them hello Leo the first guy to professional basketball averaged forty so when I look back at all those good years I look back at the opportunity to even travel starting off playing with Allentown in the eastern league their first year in the league in nineteen fifty eight and then going to our Wilkesboro and playing there for a number of years played in N. Sunbury for a number of years and then played and Binghamton New York and my last two years and I think about it from first and foremost just love the game secondly to get a chance to play at a pro level and thirdly to be able to make money when I started playing in nineteen fifty eight I was getting twenty five dollars a game for two games on the weekend that's what Allentown the average salary back then was probably around forty dollars a week and you are doing good so I was fortunate that I got a job at a local one sixty nine to nineteen sixty so now I'm playing the vessel basketball and I'm working man that was great so I took the forty dollars at twenty five dollars a game per game in my last couple seasons playing in Houston basketball league I was able to make ninety dollars a game and then the last two years I played I made a hundred fifteen dollars a game and when I retired I had a contract four hundred fifteen dollars in my hand and I had this opportunity to get in broadcasting I decided that broadcasting was where I thought I would go which was a great movie good lord sent me in that direction so I gave up a hundred fifteen to do the full office seventy six games in nineteen sixty nine when W. C. A. U. radio for twenty five dollars a game only the home games so we get opportunities it's up to us to take advantage of those opportunities and when those doors open is a door that opens but our daughter will close very quickly follow basketball point of view I had a chance to play with and against my hero Polaris and in fact when I got traded from the Camden bullets to the Wilkesboro Barron's my last game I scored thirty some points in that game which is more points than Paul Harrison scored which I really relished because all was my hero and Paul was also a guy that passed the ball to you and I remember practicing and playing with Paul Harrison did you say shoot the ball you don't have to tell me twice that was good traps back in the day let's go back to the phones let's go back to Kevin in Philadelphia good morning Kevin Hey honey you know Kevin Washington how you doing he Kevin Washington a brother you know turn your radio down we're all I'm on I'm on a plane that we are all right what we know we will know you on a plane this is my Kevin Washington now wants you to be careful on the play because of the coronavirus got to be very careful about what's going on what's going on okay talk to me I want to check I want to check in with you first of all I heard you talking about the Lenovo you know I got a little upset not that much simple guys so I have no how did you how did you get the temple who searches out I know you both remarks you know it worked out better because maybe you're going to Villanova you wouldn't have to correct you had a temple and you have what it all time great careers at temple hello I on a serious point I would I would call you last week but I didn't get a chance okay I really wanted to have a conversation about the way Joe Brian and Pam Bryant were treated at the memorial service okay not much I love Joe Bryant and what Joe some solid early exactly okay would be no Kobe Bryant whatever job it would be not an understudy to spend you know he lost his son and his friend job I just felt that he was treated improperly medicine I know there was a lot of issues that I don't know about that went on between them so here's the reality S. last owns a lot of stick it in my not Kevin I want you to give my radio listening audience a rundown of Kevin Washington in the journey these been owned who is now the executive of all of the YMCAs in America speak to me this morning please so you know it started out really yes it doesn't operate it in in the in the moment of borough Chevrolet playing out in another place to come and pick me up at the at my house every day well you know who else used to come pick you up every day you'll be your own mother you might yeah but your other would only let you go with me right I'd go there and pick you up Tony Sam Martino but also how about the Christmas tree why and what they did for you there and now you are the head of all the whites in the United States that's the dream that could never become a reality but it is it happened at the Christmas tree why because I had the adults there cannot be a marketing tool yeah you get me on the straight and narrow supported me along my journey allow me to do what I'm doing now I have so and it was a community centres you talk about the author yes you're late he she'll call it growth it's mellow models books that were part of that process they cared about young boys growing up in South Philadelphia basketball you always it was only a means with a means to an end many guys have the option to play professional basketball but it was so many of us because of the care because of the concern because of the direction and support we got from people like in your body nearly allowed us to reach our full potential I'm in I am so grateful for that and I have always community give back in any way that I can to ensure that there's opportunity all kids regardless of where they come from right seven opportunities there for potential but I learned that from you but don't forget to play professional basketball for the team that I alone in Lancaster Pennsylvania the Lancaster red roses yes my money buy a franchise so you guys can have an opportunity to showcase your skills at a professional level and maybe even get an opportunity to go to the next level you know the one that came toddling that chronicles the comical yes I did it for him as well there is well can you.

"My guest is rob Yardley. He is the son of George Yardley. Are you George Harry Yardley the fourth? No, there was talk of that. But when I was a twin which at that time, they didn't know till we were born that was before George Foreman popularized the multiple George offsprings. Right. Surname name. So we were Robin rich. So is there a fourth somewhere? No. We only two boys my son. I mean, my father had two daughters also, but that's just four of us. Mhm? Your father was a two time. All American at Stanford PHI beta Kappa. And he was the first one to score two thousand points in a season. That's correct. Wow. You told me your dad was good. But I when I read about him. I said you understated how good he was you played ball yourself. Yes. Very very very poor. You wanted to get your dad? No, no, not not close you. And I have a mutual friend Paul Westphal who's in the NBA hall of fame. Not yet. He will he will be or this month his son, Mike also played. I know his son is son wasn't as good as his dad. Nowhere close. And I talked to Paul's wife, Cindy. And she said, and I quote, I'm y qlo-quote and she said on her wedding day of the day before they got married, Paul. It just occurred to him to find out how at wife was. And he said our future wife was to be. And he said can you jump? She's excuse me. He's a job and she said, I can try and so she jumps and it wasn't impressive. And so she says the reason Mike was good as good as Paul is. Because I'm why. So are you blaming your mom? My brother actually came up with this. He said we inherited dad's manners and mom's athletic ability, which was a flip from what we should have done. So the story of your dad and your brother approaching Bill Russell for an autograph knowing full. Well that Russell does not give autographs your dad knew that having played with them yet. He did it anyway. Yes. And my brother, and I protested because we said he knew and he said, oh, he'll sign one for me. But but again, he was just picking a fight when we got up to Mr. Russel dad said reasoning picking a fight is because like Bill Russell your dad was very competitive and it tipped him off. He kept getting his butt kicked by Bill. Russell giving his yes, never never once. So one of those eleven championships in thirteen at least I'll get an autograph the year dead set the scoring record the Saint Louis. Hawks won the championship was the only year outside of the year Chamberlain one Philadelphia that Russell didn't win in thirteen years. Interestingly enough that was the last all white NBA championship team, the fifty eight hawks and the owner Ben Kerner was legitimate. Racist. And dad pointed out is racism is its own reward the team fell apart after that they ended up having to move down to Atlanta. And he said, you know, you can be a racist. You'll get what you deserve. But but in any case when dad went up to Bill he said signing autographs Bill and Bill said, George, you know, I don't sign autographs and dad said Bill don't be a prima Donna just sign up for my boys and Bill said, George, I very legitimate reasons, I think is demeaning for people to ask me to sign. My name on a piece of paper. I've got a lot of things to do. There's no benefit to them. They usually throw it out. I mean, he had a series of very any also said, you don't know what it's like to be to be a black player playing in his era as they argued it segues into that. And he said, you don't know what it was like being a black, man. Joe you never you never played as a black, man. And he said, they defecated in my bed cleaning up the language. Larry become a Christian radio. But he said they defecated in my bed because I was a black man. And dad said Bill, how do you know? It's because you're a black man. He said if I could have broken. I would've defecated in your bed because you eleven championships in thirteen years. I couldn't beat you. No matter. What I did. I would call you names. I would've done whatever it took to beat you, including defecating in your room. So don't always assume it's racism, and at that point Bill said, well, it's a good point, George. He sign the autographs, and they parted friends, and he actually was friends with Bill until his death in two thousand four. The story about the player who assume people didn't wanna room with him because he was black. What was his name, Walter dukes, Walter Duke, and actually that was kind of fomented in him. He got in with a bad crowd after he retired. He was an attorney as well. Which of course, is a big problem there, you know, that you're. It's pretty straightforward. I think you know, and then so Walter had gotten with it was in a national magazine. I don't recall the time, whether it was sport magazine, Sports Illustrated. But he said George already was a racist. He never wanted to pass the ball any wouldn't room with me. So that's I'm long distance calls were expensive and dad was pretty level headed guy. He knew he wasn't a racist. But he was livid. He continued making long distance calls. Chilly finally got a hold of Walter, and I only heard dad's side the conversation. But it was clearly he was saying what why would you say that in Walter said, well, we'll George never pass me the ball. And dad said I set the NBA scoring record this season we played together. Walter, I didn't pass the ball to anybody white black if we'd had Asians. I wouldn't have has it to them. And then Walter said, well, you didn't wanna room with me and dad said Walter you did not bay after the game. And you smelled horrible. Nobody want roomy. We all wanted to room with Sweetwater Clifton who by the way is also Sweetwater showers at halftime. So we was the cleanest player in NBA history. And we all wanna room with Sweetwater Robbie RV. Thank you very much for sharing those stories with us. Thank you. Triple eight nine hundred one SAG merit Rama Ron born Cassandra. Don't leave town..

"The runner up with us and them. This was a race fell apart completely fell apart the Kalashnikov who was ante-post favored at one stage. Glenn forced to who's obviously been very prominent in the market Legler Lawler, whatever you wanna call them. They're all out of the race. We'd already lost the riche Berg. So does that take from the performance of Geneva, Jane, or were you suitably impressed play on the day? I really liked him last year, and he disappointed me to be honest. I was disgusted or newel fell. Going down the back. He got into lovely rhythm on was enjoying himself on the ground. I thought he'd run a big race. He he's flailing leg. I'm sure plenty visa on Twitter. He's flailing hind leg actually, kicked Jacqueline odor end. And that's what happened in clash niqab. Didn't get interfered with the harsh step said actually, kicked Jacqueline on his of disgusted for Jonathan Burke on gun Forsa, you know, major chance gone too early. We we never really wouldn't own Lawler did exactly wash some people taught. He would do he couldn't lawyer up, and that's not stuck didn't come as a surprise. You could Bertie lay open on when our new ob-gyn tenants. So that money was he was bucking horses on their hurted form when they go chasing his very risky business. Can we go back to to that debut performance at Cheltenham over fences? When he bolted up is that now, in your view, just that was a bit of a fluke. Well, he hasn't looked like a doing a similar performance than so. And. Second to be fair to them has gone on. And obviously he was another one who didn't get seen this race because he's out for the season. But he turned the former owned and while a lot of people wanted to excuse it. He's ended up being pulled up here. Just hasn't fired. Again, eat didn't go onto the stars. So you know, what I mean hard line number hearts disappointed massively. It was it was clear from a long way of threes at falling apart knocking knows couldn't. Maybe he didn't couldn't couldn't operate on the ground. But he's probably not grade one caliber anyway, did is it for Brian who was brave enough to keep them over that he picked up place prizemoney, albeit well, beaten with articulate awesome them did what he usually does. He played a very good bridesmaid role, and is probably a har- steady win the began to cap some day, he has a favorable Mark. But he's in the hundred and fifty which is hush hot. Walter Duke, Geneve run out of comfort winner votes. It wasn't a vintage ARCO. There's no point in saying, otherwise he hacked up. It was just it just so happens that Duke do Geneve won the beginners chasing, Gordon that we couldn't really see. He won the beginners chasing where racing TV were too busy on the day to play the entire race. So they played the last four fences and tower breed. She's finished second on the day happened to be placed in shows. Leaders chase. We almost didn't see. So I mean that is an important part. And look Nick looks going to be on the show tomorrow.
