"Just second is the motives of the protestors and the demonstrators and then the violent people in Washington was completely different than the people who are in the capital are elected officials who had a job to do And they were simply trying to go about their job. They did nothing wrong here. The protesters were trying to disrupt. No, no, no, but but Walberg was part of this wholly illegitimate. Protest of the of the electoral count. There was nothing procedurally valid about what Walberg and company were doing, and Mitch McConnell said So This is not even a partisan thing. This is a completely radical nut ball thing with Walberg and the Ted Cruz is and the Josh Holly's and why. Why didn't Walt Berg did not seek some other remedies? And why did he not vote against the The ballot certification the balance certification by the Electoral College. I mean, But Walberg was part of the the radical insurgency to undermine the election. He voted not to certify Walberg was one of those voters. And and you let you You did this soft interview with him where that was never even challenged. So that was one of my complaints. That was just an underlying thing for the whole interview. The next thing was you never asked Walberg about his signing on to that cockamamie Texas lawsuit that got slapped down by every federal court that it was in. That was a completely insane legal strategy, and Walberg signed on to that to that would have been something I think any other journalist would have would have questioned. All right, that zoo enough now, Okay, That's that's quite enough. Because we did ask Walberg quite specifically about the vote here in Michigan pointed out that if the vote overall for president was it was an error and and was overturned then that would also overturn all of the congressional elections, too, and he agreed and said, You know, nobody wants to do that as well. So You know, I saved Savior savior comments here, Chuck. It's okay to be better. But, you know, be be honest and accurate about it. Okay? And don't overplay your hand because you don't really have that strong hand. You ain't holding aces. You ain't holding a flush there, pal. Okay. You've got problems with this election period. And, you know the quicker that we face that on all sides of the political aisle and try to correct the inequities that we had. The quicker we're gonna have Americans, all Americans who have confidence in our electoral process once again. Well, Frank. Honestly, I am. I'm quite calm about this, and I really do think that we've got we cut the.

"With the representative Tim Walberg. Always interesting. It's it comes down to this to Georgia races that will determine control of the Senate. And it should be fascinating Day, Marie and especially for those of you in the news business. Ah, yeah. Two big stories, actually, not not just today, Of course, with the runoff in in Georgia, But then tomorrow, Of course, we have the electoral certification going on. That's what we talked with with Katherine Walberg about so So what? We're trying to cover all bases as we as we move along through the day, it's going to be a fascinating couple of days. We're going to need our strength. Through all of this, and we'll see what that is going on. You know, I find it fascinating. All of those. What were they not former Attorney General's former Defense Department people, whatever that all those people got together to say. To say to the president. Please don't call upon the military. For political reasons. Or for what was their thing. Yeah, that they you know they are of the 10. Former defense secretaries just want to keep the military out of election disputes. They say that that obviously would be dangerous for many reasons. And unlawful according to them this it's hilarious. So those 10, former defense secretaries, Republican and Democrat calling for the president to not have military involved. With anything election wise. And yet, here's this headline that no one's talked about. The Democrat Washington, D. C. Mayor Muriel Bowser. Is calling in the National Guard to deal with expected protests this week. When Congress meets to certify the presidential election vote, so those defense secretary's calling upon the president not to call in the military while quietly. A Democrat mayor of Washington. Has called in the National Guard. For the election. I mean, doesn't anyone find that to be a little odd? Something to think about. I do. E can happily say I do, but no one's really talking about it except us, pointing it out. Uh, this morning, did you? Did you see the story? You probably have the story of the pharmacist. Who destroyed 570 doses of the modern a vaccine. Yeah, he left him out of the refrigerator. Because, as a conspiracy theorist, he believes the drug isn't safe, right. He thinks it'll mess with people's didna. That's what he thinks. And so he took it upon himself to Uh, ruin really 500 doses of the vaccine. This was in, uh, Wisconsin. He could have ruined and destroyed. 570 people's lives. Mm yeah, Yeah. Yeah. So what did they do with someone like that? What can throw a big enough Look at someone like that? Yeah. I mean, he's been arrested. I mean, so he is facing charges $10,000 Bond. He can do that with this Triple A card. Right out, right. Right, right. So Yeah, it Zittel it. You know, it's interesting in that. It's I've heard people mention this. Like just in talking, you know with other people that you know. Wow. Could that really happen? And sure Enough, Here's a case where Someone actually sabotaged the vaccine. So yeah, very serious matter. Yeah. I suppose. I mean, if there are people who believe What is it? G five or five? G? Yes, well, that's can control. Our lives is when people are burning down places and knocking down telephone poles and Well, blowing up trucks in front of the 18 T bills. I was just going to say that was we think that's the motive behind the guy in and Nashville. Man. Oh, man. Um, I've never been much of a conspiracy theorists that terrorist but you know some of these, uh In the end. Sometimes years later, we find out they weren't far off the mark. But I don't think any of these are on the mark. I don't think that that five G is somehow Infiltrating our bodies and causing us to be followed by the government or whatever it is, they think. Is happening. I mean, I just I don't believe it At a certain point in time you have to say Well, if you really believe stuff like that, then you really either have toe mount the revolution against the government. War. Get the heck out of Dodge. Or there's always common sense. You could try toe, you know, muster up some common sense. Wait a minute. Common sense. Not so common anymore. As the expression goes, yes. Yeah, so anyway, so we will follow that the pope has spoken. Saddened by reports of so many people traveling Over the holidays. Mm hmm. There, there's a big backlash on social media. I was just reading about this. There's a big backlash on social media. Ah, lot of celebrities posting pictures over the holidays if from fabulous locales, you know where they go and spend, um, you know, they're They're vacations, you know, places that are warm and exotic and wonderful. And people are just really like one in particular is Christy Teagan, who was just getting a lot of a lot of backlash on this saying Hello. There's a pandemic going on. None of us are supposed to be traveling unless necessary. What are you doing? And so, yeah, People are really getting raked over the coals on that one. Yeah, yeah, And there's a lot that goes into that, including jealousy. I think there's jealousy too. But I also wonder, you know. Well, you know we're gonna We're in a day and age where you post everything right? You let it all hang out, So I guess that opens you up for criticism. Indeed, it do. It is 7 13 at 7 60 wjr. Jeff Sloane is founder and CEO of Startup Nation spotlighting the entrepreneurial tech and startup community on WJR. And Let's talk a little bit about success. Who doesn't love a great success story? Right, Jeff? Good morning like the rest of us. I love a great success story. But what is really fascinating to me is how and why someone goes big. How they think what makes a winner tick. What makes them different and sets them apart? Well, here's a little inspiration that take us into the holiday. It's the story of a lawyer. His name is Mike Morris, and he wanted to go big and boy did he ever Had a chance to interview Mike recently. And here is the essence of his story. In his own words, Mike. Well, I've been an attorney or 28 years, Always right here in Detroit, Born and raised in Detroit, and my dad was a successful attorney over something. I always wanted to do an early on in my life. Actually, I knew I was not to procure. I was selling gum out of my locker in middle school, and I was a very successful waiter through high school and college and even in law school. I like making money. But even more importantly, I liked finding the shortcuts go. Working in a restaurant and how to make the most sales and make the most money. And it just kind of went into my law firm, and I realized that a law firm was a business early early. It's really good mentors. I read a lot of good books, and I decided that I was going to not just treat it like every other lawyer does. I believe that everybody has to look at their entity like a true business. And after about 20 years of working on cases day in and day out, I step back a little bit, and I started treating it like a business. I still handle cases. I still talk to my clients. Every Day, But I'm or working on top on my business looking over my business than working in my business, and it has really transformed to something unique. We exploded. And of course, we're delivering good legal services. So the clients are coming. Repeat clients. They're sending us a lot of clients. But basically I was a good lawyer and I decided to treat my business like a business and things just kind of took off for me. And there you have it. So if you want to make.

"Train rich Walberg. The running of the wieners is not feasible. But he's talking about Weiner dogs. Wiener dogs, right, But so October I guess I guess Octoberfest will be like a virtual thing like everything else is everything is virtual. So what's new in sports is virtual. Sometimes. Is there any sports? Well, Willie this morning with Mike McConnell? I thought I was reading school closings for Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky. The only thing that went on last night was one soccer game in the MLS and three NHL games, and apparently, the NHL players are all bent out of shape. Because the NHL didn't didn't jump on the bandwagon with baseball, nb a tennis hockey anything that they didn't you know, they didn't jump on the bandwagon to postpone games. But they did have a ceremony in the one game that kind of show unity. But that was about it. That's it. They didn't know prior to the puck. Dropping that boycotting was an option. So it was some of the some of the players were like outraged at the NHL didn't do anything but the end games or postpone tonight, but the playoffs will continue. Thank God player said that we're gonna keep playing God. And then, of course, last night, the WN Ba will. He also canceled their games. And the Washington Mystics players came out. They wore shirts with seven bloody dots on the back to represent the seven gunshots that police officers fired into Jacob Blake..

"Dead people gotta stand behind you right now. They don't marry you. Will you get me? Oh, that guides you. Yeah, but been like, Did they ever like tapping on the shoulder? You feel them? Brushed by? You're a tingly and they can you feel them Any. Which way Now? Do they ever give us like three more minutes on the No, You don't. But can they is there? You're feeling them. You seeing them, you say Did you ever feel like one brush by you like you think you see something Runabout you room And you turn, but there's really nothing there. But that's my life every day, you know, I mean, like, that's what I deal with every day, But you're going to know like they don't like because they know they can speak to me. They don't come up and tap me on the shoulder. They don't like touch my here like I don't have weird things. Like how evil spirits that hurt you. Well, they are evil spirits. Yes, there are but you won't come in contact with them and you won't come in contact with them and nobody. Nobody on air probably will because they're rare. It's not like you see on TV like the haunting of you know, Hill house or whatever, Like, you know, the only time that you're really gonna come To contact without negative spirit is if you go looking for it If you play with Weegee board, you know if you go to a place that's haunted like things like that. That's when you're going to come in contact like I would never go in ghost hunt or be anywhere near the ghost hunters, the paranormal and things like that. Because you're opening up bad doors. You are So they watch movies were like they taught, you know that And you better not go home, OK, because the spirits will tell if you're playing with the Weegee boards because I know you. You want to test that I did as a kid. I always like, I know. I know. I had a wee Gee board. We would do the sciences when we lifted up with two fingers and like we thought, Let me write on the board that you should say Lettuce, a feather stiff as a board. I don't know what I don't remember. I'm old now, but anyways Okay, So Craig's OCD comes to me. One does not come say hi to me, but Jimmy is going to come. Say Hi, Jimmy. Junior high to me. Now, tell me about that bus and you drive it because that's the coolest because I love them. So you're gonna love this. So this used to be Mark Warburg's Okay. So Mark Walberg. What? The West Coast Customs. He had a, you know, custom like escalate limousine built. Okay, so then, you know, he put it up for sale. If someone put up for sale, I would. They bought it. I put my face on it. Now. What's mine around Boston? Or, you know, across the country with my face on the big escalated people freaking love it. They all of it. I see the people even high high high love it. It's like a parade. You know, they see I love that because she hates flying. So if she could drive everywhere in a bus was, Yeah, that was part of my toughest time with HDTV temper snails. Because I just I don't want to this event in Vegas. They they want to go here. They want to go there. I'm not a great fire. You can make it easy for me and my ever going to die, And then they play. You see me crash Don't see across, you know, in an airplane. No, but I see you trying to, like, talk to the pilot and said, Like you know how to operate this thing. You sure you know what you're doing? Like in Vatican City, Matt, I'm in every cockpit of every flight. My fiancee wants to us. She and I have full conversations with the past. And they actually talked to me. The speaker, especially in JetBlue, Cindy, we're going to be good. Don't worry. Little tribute Last must light. The pilot gave her wings like she was 10. He came out with my kids saying to Florida. He came out and gave me wings. He goes Ms Temple. You deserve these way They like I'm really I want no, you You're going to get to know me. We're all going to be happy here. He came out and brought me wings and put these on your chest. You right? Exactly do that. How do you know I do that? I mean, didn't you see what I do for a living? You see what I do, okay? Way he did get that one right on the money on that one. Okay. You know what it is if I talk about herself, so she'll like that, of course, because, like she likes you like that, But if I have five look like people that you don't want to hear from shouldn't want to hear it. Yeah. I have to accept the messages right outside the messages. You know what happened? I didn't say what happened really Quickly. So I was at a live event. You know, I was all the way in the back. I'll never forget it. Never forget it. I went to this woman and I said, Oh, you're brothers right here. You know, your brother passage goes now. Whole world was empty. The dead person is sitting right next to I says, No, this is your brother. He's right here. Not for me. I'm like you. You sure school's honey? I didn't lose a brother. I'm like, Are you sure says she goes I was their only child. I never had a brother. I don't know what you're talking about, because it's probably somebody who was sitting here before him was wounded was tough as nails woman like Cindy. So then I'm like, all right, I'll let it go. The next thing you know, at the end of this event I was signing books in the same woman came up to me because I'm sorry. I'm sorry. That was my brother. I lied, But I hated him. I couldn't stand this life goes to me. What was the message? The message is that honey, so that was 45 minutes ago. It says you told me. You know, where was that helped the phone. I don't know that one that you told me didn't have a.

"Walberg. They wake up at three AM, they work out what else he did, But that's you in life is work out like literally. That's all they do. And then they troll people on the Internet really close, like, you know, Honestly, I'm going to say Something that's become really popular is meditation. A lot of people talk about just even spending five minutes meditating. Yeah, can really help for the rest of the day. I don't know about the meditation thing. You don't think so. I don't know It's a little woo. It's not though they have acts. Now it's like it's pretty mainstream. Let's read the question one more time. Forbes magazine recently identified a list of four things that successful people accomplish on a daily basis before starting their day. And I need you to name all four in no particular order, and I will give you a lifeline. Tell me one of your guesses, and I will tell you, Jose, if it made the list is meditation on their meditation is on the You'll never be 60. Fake news. Fake news. Forbes is a failing magazine. It's on the way out. Lowest sales in recent history, like eating an impossible, but Oh, my God. Okay, I think I got it, okay? I like not saying is easy, but I think I'm very confident here. Number four Meditation number three. These are the four things that successful people do each morning before starting their days. I already told you meditating or praying and visualization is on the list. Next on the list, eating a healthy breakfast. You got it. You rock. Also on the list. Exercise Rock morning exercise only gives you a health benefit of stronger bones and muscles, but also a sense of accomplishment on my list of successful people do every morning before 8 a.m. Yeah, thank your bad plan your day. Ah. Making it to do list is good for productivity. You were so close to real successful, Jose get to work and then just go with the flow. Alright, Well, yeah, We're not quite successful people because we didn't get it right. But somebody wanted to hear you. Sing the song Umbrella by Rianna do that You can stand under my umbrella. "Unfortunately this Shithole has more fucking leaks in the Iraqi navy. Fuck Yourself. I'm tired from fucking your wife. How's your mother good? She's tired from fucking my father. You have a job Tom. I'm a firefighter. Oh God bless you a hero. I'm not hero. We'd all be here. We could use the petroleum. No excuse me Christmas. Utah a lot of fucking money. What did you do? I mean if you take away nothing else for my class from this experience let it be this. If you're not a genius don't bother right. The world needs plenty of electricity and a lot of them are happy and they can help. It really can't be that we can always do. Better let me keep trying. If you guys keep trying I'm shawn fantasy and this is the big picture. A conversation show about Mark Wahlberg. This episode may break the all time record for big picture dissonance later in the show. I have an interview with Kelly. Reichardt the writer and director behind independent film classics. Like old joy. Meek's cutoff in the new film. First cow which might be the best movie of Two Thousand Twenty so far. I hope you'll stick around for that but I were joined by the frog. Sheriff Chris Ryan. I heard that Mark. Wahlberg actually dropped out of first cow. He was gonNA play the cow Alao. But you're already doing animal. Humor here on driver too is calling. Chris. You're here because you're a fan of Mark Wahlberg work. He's The star of a new movie. That is hitting Netflix. This Friday called Spencer confidential. I think gets his fifth film with Peterberg. The actor turned director of such films as lone survivor and deepwater horizon. This is a very strange movie but I think it's going to be a a very watched movie because the corona virus is scaring America into staying inside their house. And so I think that there's a potential for a lot of viewership of this movie. So we're talking about Mark Wahlberg one of the most resilient and persistent movie stars. I guess of the past twenty five years so let's just start with WHO is Mark Wahlberg. How did this happen? That Mark Wahlberg became one of the signature figures of movies in the twenty first century. I would not say I'm a fan of Mark Wahlberg as like I'm a I'm agnostic as a citizen. Yeah I would say that. I am very interested in the way that he has conducted his career. Which is kind of a weird throwback to a studio systems our he makes three to four movies every eighteen months somehow and just releases them at like a hugely prolific rate at. I'm fascinated by all the little pockets of his career that he has created where he repeats. You know he goes back to these little micro genres that he and he works a lot of people over and over again by the way he kind of has conducted his career to me is almost unique among Hollywood movie stars anymore. I mean most of the time when people achieve a certain level success. They just like see in three years for my next blockbuster or award fodder and he's just like nope. I'm grinding out. Family movie violent action film and then every once in a while Raunchy comedy and it's just like pretty pretty like unique among all Hollywood stars so I'm fascinated. What do you make them Amanda? I was fascinated when going back to you. Remember how many great directors he's worked with and how many actually excellent movies he's been in. Chris was asking me how much we watching I had to do for this podcast and the answer is a lot. Because I wouldn't say that Mark Wahlberg stays with me besides certain shots that will certainly be discussed on this podcast but he especially I guess in the first decade of this century just goes on a tremendous run. I really from Boogie nights on and works with a does a lot of really great movies and then kind of decides to just become like the Peterberg comedy guy in the second decade of the century. And I it's a really interesting shift. He just Kinda decides no. I'm going to do this now. And it's very fascinating to me I can't really make sense of. I also is Christmas talking about his efficiency. Just pulled up his daily schedule. Do you guys remember the days? Will he wakes up. Like four o'clock in the morning posted this on his own instagram typical daily scheduled to thirty. Am Wake Up. What don't you forty five prayer time. Three fifteen am breakfast. There's a lot of work work. He's golfing from seven thirty to eight. Which is the golf people? And there's a chamber recovery at nine thirty that takes more time than golf workout number two lunches and our so our meeting slash work calls also an hour and he goes to bed at seven thirty PM and which in Los Angeles for. I'd say six at least six months of the year. That is still broad daylight. Yeah Yeah Su. There is real efficiency baked into this. He's clearly very deliberate guy. He's making choices. And I think that pertains to his daily life and also his his career. There is clearly thought going into this. It's not a type of thought. I can access. I still don't know why you would wake up at two thirty and I don't know why you would do like five deep water horizons. There's a rumor that he has a routine. I think you. I'm speculating here. But I think he's a member of Wilshire Country Club here in Los Angeles. My husband told me this last night and he likes to play alone. He likes to play. And that's why he's playing so early in the morning and he's trying to get in like a quick nine or quick eighteen. I don't know five days a week which I'm who among? Us would love to do that if I could wake up before five. Am I would do it. I'll tell you I would love to do that. I'll tell you something else I am. I find golf to be social and I get crippled like when I play by myself. I'm like all the neurosis is creeping like. Should I take another shot now like it really playing golf? If you're not playing with anyone can just tell you. He's got three snacks on the schedule. Including one that takes an hour and a half from eight to nine thirty. Am is snack after seven. Thirty to eight am golf. Probably a euphemism. Oh Okay so you think. His sessions are ninety minutes. So you're saying to jump off something. Amanda said You know who? He reminds me of a bizarre way Cruz. Where it's like that run. Where cruises like I'll just work with Barry Levinson Stanley Kubrick and Steven Spielberg and every great director at it seems like I'm just the most important factor in the whole world and then one day he wakes up and says I'M GONNA make action movies for the rest of my life? It's very unlikely though. I mean his origins restraints obviously member of this very well known family. He's from Massachusetts. He starts out as a a rap artist and ultimately becomes a Calvin Klein M. C. An. Mc Yes we watched the vibrations video. Recently I took my top five twenty two. Would you make of good vibrations? And and how did you feel about the funky bunch all these years later? It's just really bizarre that this was a thing that we lived through. Who is the funky bunch? I I still don't know who's in it. Were you in a Chris? Thought it was the backup dancers. I mean yes. That's who they were but like do you know anything about them and where they are now. I was pretty. Yeah I was pretty. I was pretty authentic back then so I was. I was already listening to deep deep newer. Grab I love talking about the early nineties with you. Can we talk about the Calvin Klein ads for a second really really important? You're almost put these on my list. And it's and my honorable mention boxer briefs. Yeah I was still a boxer sky back then that was not interested in the product. Would you just tear the ads out of the magazine? Crumpled them up and throw them in the garbage. I think that the those are the signature moment in his career without the advertising campaign he would not have become weirdly Tom Like sub Tom Cruise but he you know. He soared to a of fame on that ad campaign. They're just extremely important. Ninety s imagery obviously came as also in them. And that's where the whole K. Moss thing starts Them Hating each other. Great early celebrity feud they're very important that's all and also it looks great. I mean he and his image was of basically like a tough guy with a bad attitude whether that was true or not he obviously got into some altercations and his his personal history is pretty complicated. We're not gonNA spend too much time talking about on this show. But I think that he basically leveraged his complicated persona in the public into a movie career and if you look at the first few movies that he makes replays these kind of like weird intimidating Undeveloped YOUNG MEN. You know in the basketball diaries in. Ryen Russillo favorite movie fear And even in boogie nights. There's something like violently adolescent about his his persona which is very different from the kind of actor and movie star that he is right now so a lot of times. I think that we could. You could write like a series of essays about how much actors of his generation have attempted to mimic the kind of like rough and tumble blue collar upbringing. That Walberg apparently had like how how often like DiCaprio Damon or these guys have tried to be like no I'm Jim Carroll and he's just a function Carol I'm the real thing but it's weird like even in his authenticity. If you WANNA call it that he still lacks like any kind of emotional intelligence or psychological depth to portraying those things and you could write all these essays. But you could just watch the departed. Because that's what this does that. Do you need that from an actor? Do you need to feel like this person is like in control and has that depth that Chris was talking about? I think I do ultimately. I think that there is a reason that I gravitate to Matt Damon instead of Wahlberg. And I think that you not just because of the departed and the Boston. Bill will talk about that a lot as a comparison but I like I said I really remember a lot of Walberg performances. Even though he's been given a lot of great ones and I think that's because they have a I don't WanNa say surface level. That's unfair. They're actually a lot of depth but they aren't the emotional depths and I think I personally don't hang onto those. I think I'm always wondering how in command of the Ark of his career. He is because you pointed out he makes he's. I mean he's just been a lot of great movies a lot of movies that are going to stand the test of time and it always seems like he's being cast the way that a lot of young actresses or cast as the. Nayef as the like the naive and innocent who gets corrupted when put into a system and like did someone in a room. Say That to him. This is your lane man will early like you think so. Well I just don't think that he I think he's largely in charge of the movies that he makes. Now he's like. I think that the movies that we see our movies that Mark Wahlberg once made for the most part and my suspicion is the reason he made that transition. Amanda was referencing about just mostly doing action. Comedy movies now is because those movies are more fun and easier to make for him there either like a physical challenge there like a day on the set whereas making boogie nights as hard Russell Smart. Yeah I think that he is both like sinking very strategically as the schedule would suggest and also like not over thinking it i. That's the VIBE. I guess sometime at the end of the day he's going like it very much is what it is. He is a very Surface level or just immediate actor. That's that's what you're getting and so I think he wants. He gets to produce the movies himself and make the decisions. You just kind of like. Yeah action comedies. Got There before we get into our top fives and I think we should figure out what we mean. When we say top five if it's five performances or his top five movies because there's some complexity. There is a very strange celebrity. The the nine eleven thing is you're staring right at. It's just hanging over my head as I think about him as a public person. So in twenty twelve Walberg was quoted in a magazine interview regarding. What would have happened if he had flown aboard American Airlines Flight? Eleven on September eleventh. Two thousand one. He'd been booked on a flight on flight. Eleven but his plans changed the day before the scheduled flight and he cancelled his reservation. Walberg received public criticism for stating quote. If I was on that plane with my kids it wouldn't have went down like it did and there would have been a lot of blood in that first class cabin and then me saying okay. We're going to land somewhere safely. Don't worry Warburg apologized for those statements. But they're actually the sort of thing that kind of inform his public persona and when we watch him in an action movie. We think that he's the kind of guy who's like I would have kicked some ass on nine eleven which I don't know if you like complicates the quality of the films that he makes but I can't get stuff like that. Outta my head once I've read or heard about it and I feel like we've referred back to it even in a joking fashion over the years right. Yeah it is definitely one of the top three things that I think about. When someone says Mark Wahlberg schedule yeah nine eleven yeah and the last night of prosthetic but like you know. I'm human beings. It's the point of the movie full movie as leading to that so yes I agree. It's funny he is both. I think very funny as a comedic actor like entirely humorless and it's that some things he's in on the joke on some things he's just kind of being like no I would have save. I would have stopped nine eleven. Which is just a ridiculous thing to say. And that's the joke of Andy Sandberg's say Heidi Mother for me. Yeah you know portrayal of him is this is like he's kind of total rube but also not. There's something very elusive about. Whatever's going on with an entourage thing it's like. Do you watch entourage because you think it's completely ridiculous or do you watch entourage because you think it's like six awesome representative drama and I dare to say that Mark Wahlberg is like Yup? That's how it went. I you probably think you're right. Insulin entourage Ari comes on and it's really like Whoa but most but he's like that's accurate me. Like Vince is very much living my experience. He's like we should make a show about it. I think. I think that you guys are right. Do you think that this should be five performances or top five movies I choose? I don't know I don't know where I landed. I think I did I tried to be interesting here but I I wouldn't say that any of these performances leap out at me except for my number one and number two as like excellent performances. They're more like movies. I really like was he ever given a truly great performance. Yes I I think. There's one and a half great performances on this movie and it's just a half is the end of boogie nights. No no I. Well that might be the case now. There's another movie I still did performances but I think they are. They are a little bit also an award for the movie knowing how best to use him right. Okay well then let's get into it. Let's go into our top five Mark Wilbur performances slash movies number five Amanda. Why don't you start us off? This goes out to Bill Simmons and apparently to right who I still have never met. Hello Ryan. I'm going with fear. Why not whow revisit? Yes I did okay okay seen Djing

pull up with a plan to steal it does I guess pre season so in this is I guess I'm trying to think what year that is gonna be like late seventies early eighties this is got a how old are you for twelve fifty two so we're we're yeah eighty two one yeah she's asteroids is pretty big asteroids is amazing I mean I was that stand as game ever I mean the I guess another business on the other way to put as well so I was playing Space Invaders of Phil Sam and I'm not sure we're in this town I'm asking these questions and it's just amazing how these in Pittsburgh this is not a Hollywood story I'm just a kid you know and right didn't know who he was at the time and you know it he obviously became who became so it's pretty wild then you're from Long Island the which makes you an islanders fan sites right I grew up again I'm fifty some I mean you and I aren't too damn far apart so I grew up a ranger fan yeah and I love to the Rangers in the in the mid to late seventies Ron do gay with his flowing hair I hated him and Barry Barry back and all everyone of them I mean and where in my pods in Jersey in Madison Square Garden having things thrown at me when I was nine or ten years and that makes it tough for just make it for maybe five I remember watching the drive for five you know on my local whatever cable TV like might be one that go out or something like that and I remember I heeded the island that I hated Nystrom I hated bossy I hated Smith Billy Smith was the big honk goalie I ever thirty was filthy dirty I thought and I was at I was at the eighty game nice from scores I'm in the last last row of the Nassau Coliseum in this was right by far the greatest sports moment I've ever experienced I mean come on it was I mean I was such as I said earlier I could name pretty much every name and number of everyone on that team okay you know so if you want you know twenty three is Nystrom obviously he said Bassey twenty two it's miss thirty one time but I you know I mean like there's no memory that's even close to that and the the feeling when they won you know I I always all I wanted for my kids is to be able to experience that when they grow up in it doesn't seem to me that the passion is as much anymore as it was when you lived in breed these teams there you know that kind of they lived in the community see him around and was just very cold really you just seem around around just going to you know bands delicatessen office gord lane city very it are you serious I mean I don't know but I still go doing actually but I saw some twenty four by the so if you follow them the Brooklyn are you still an islanders fan I'm still allows fan I could name everyone's number today we had our own as hi could I still am very big outing I mean you know its it's amazing seeing them in Brooklyn now marked the first concert I ever went to was at Nassau Coliseum to Joel I'm off I'll be honest with you I will always shoot everybody straight here kind of wish was Billy Joel who's now as you know the official singers Madison Square Garden you know it was Chicago you can show of that well I mean it was the of the it was the of the hard habit to break Terry home slow song that's a weird the first because it isn't a comedian opened up my god bless my late dad drove drove our **** all the way out he drove around for like three hours picked up drums back your cell phones like this is back when we're calling sports phone to find out the scores added to the kids names like taking over also you will it's very sad I would change my parents would never let me do the stuff that goes on I know man Doug Allen here on the rich Eisen show okay so that your next and now right I'm an ex fan art and produced the documentary on the sixty nine to seventy two next you know I I I don't want to put you in a difficult position because I'm very very critical of the owner very very and I put one in I hate his guts you know how can you not I mean it's it's horrible to see this and and when you think you know that the Knicks are now this destination that no one to go to when they have the money it's mind boggling I mean you know I you know Baron Davis is a friend of mine and when one parent they had a minute would barren came into the garden all of a sudden you felt the whole NBA to me feels better when the makes a good and to see that no one will even go there now is it's tragic and just as they are is the best place in the world and you know it's where I grew up it's where I song you know Bernard king do is staying in a bird or King jurors in the pilot because Bernard king was my idol I worry when I turn around jump shot every day of my oh my god as a baseline quite quite Bernards when you know I went back to back fifty points in Texas and then there was the pistons playoff series where I'd say in him basically played one on one.

That's even better has a little bit of a rough go, but he he's just starting on the process, and the fact that he struck out the size doesn't hurt anything either. If that if that clicks if that happens boy this team has a great pitching staff. You agree. Doug. Yeah. Jimmy, Nelson return to his twenty seventeen form before we got injured. Absolutely. I mean, you wanna talk about a bolstered rotation. And then they're starting to try to work in corporate burns. "Hey, Mark Walberg in there. And I swore I saw a boom Mike come down into the picture to that happen or was I over served. It could have easily happen you blue making a lot of movies. Sometimes it's how the movies framed. I mean, just don't think Kevin car expert in movies loved the happening. I'm fully aware that the happenings kind of a piece of garbage. But something about it. I mean, I thought it was it was shocking. I thought it was exciting reminded me actually bird box when bird box came out a couple of months weeks ago. That's of like doing violence to yourself thing. I thought came from there, and I thought that was. And it was goofy. Because part of it is, you know, Mark Wahlberg. I don't know if anyone I think he thought that he was making a comedy the way he delivers some of his lines because they're so deadpan and laughable. Exactly one of the very Moore's by any stretch. That's true. Kevin car will let you go, man. People want to know more working they go just go to fat guys at the movies dot com. Thanks a lot. So yeah, I'm gonna go six cents, an unbreakable and splits. I never saw unbreakable. I know I know that I would like that one. But that kind of that'll sneak up on you to see signs was good signs, and there were salt. Oh my God. You guys sit out is that the one where water kills the alien don't give away the damn sorry. Spoiler. Water kills the alien. Is that the one though, yes, say that's a horrible. Superpower was a great movie though installed. Bucket of water. I know that the only. Uh spoils. "Low twenty eight mortar pleasure. It is to welcome back to the Paul W Smith show. But for the first time in this new year, congresswoman, Debbie Dingle and congressman Tim Walberg nice to have both of you with us again. And you've become kind of a inseparable team, haven't you? Well, we're good friends and we worked the morning happy new year flew in with camps already seen him and two of us. Love our country. We don't agree on everything. But we believe in working together. And for you, congressman Walberg, I the the feeling is mutual. I would guess. Well, it's good to be with you. Happy new year to you. And yes, well, my good friend, Debbie Dingle and her husband forehand. We were able to work together that we don't agree on everything. I don't think we major on that. Because in most cases, I think we agree on most most things and want to work to a solution. That's the best for our country. So thanks for giving us the opportunity morning. Well, listen, if there were if there were more people working like you in Washington or for that matter Lansing or any state capitol. We'd all be better off. We we hire you guys to get things done. And unfortunately, too often things don't get done because of partisan politics. I'm not suggesting anyone fold or give up their philosophy or what they think would be best for the country. But making sure nothing happens is not the answer. So here we are in the thirteenth day entering the thirteenth day of the shutdown and most of us don't feel any effects at all. Now. I know if you work for the government, you're making do without a paycheck, even though you know, that with this time off you are going to get a paycheck, or even if you don't have time off you will not lose money. But you don't have that cash flow in most of his need that cash flow to pay our bills, congressman Walberg, that's true. And we want to see the shutdown ended didn't want to shut down. I think both Debbie, and I say very clearly we didn't want to see the shutdown. And I think there are a lot of members of the rank and file members that are willing to work together to solution. But sometimes it's leadership that gets in the way, for whatever reason, I think we're seeing that right now when we're willing to roll up our sleeves get the job done, and and and do what's necessary, and what the people said in at least two thousand sixteen election, and then the most recent election as well. So I think that's the concern. That's there. There was a meeting yesterday. I think w I could say we're encouraged the fact that the leadership met with the president yesterday at least had the opportunity at the head of homeland security. This Nielsen had the chance to give an update on actually what's going on. It was sad to hear that leadership broke in and didn't allow that to continue. And I think that's the problem that that w I want to see addressed what is the situation on the border. If it is as bad as we hear it to be let's find a solution to have over two hundred and fifty children that are taken into medical care at the border in a given an a given time period. That's not what we want to see. So let's secure that border and then move on with reforms that will make this immigration opportunity that great country the best possible congresswoman Dingle how much money would you be willing to vote for to put toward security homeland security our border protection etcetera. We gotta get to the table and negotiate. I don't put lines in Santa. I'm putting numbers up there. I need to know what to do. Dealers. I mean, I think there's enough studies out there that show that the wall itself is not effective. They're more, but we do need more custom border patrol. We do need to use more technology. Drones biometrics variety of other. And by the way, it's not just the southern Puerto. We need to make sure we're keeping our northern border too. But you know, Paul W we were sort of sheltered during the holidays a lot of people were off, and they weren't paying attention. But when I flew back yesterday. I know you get to know the TSA officers, you talk to them, you know, you do it every week. They're getting worried they don't know how they're going to pay the rent they're gonna and I had to talk to the US attorney yesterday about something. And Matt said to me, I'm really worried about my career people here who are really starting to get worried. You know, we had a holiday people didn't pay attention peace. Democrats Republicans that are working for us to public servants. And they're getting caught in the middle of this. It's not a way to treat people that can afford or a WJR employee was treated like that you all would be screened. How many times do you think the United States government was closed for business since one thousand nine hundred seventy six a number? It was three times last year. How many is twenty one times? It's just it's not the right way to it's just not right at the world does not come to an end. And luckily for us, and you a congressman Walberg, and you congresswoman dangle when you look at this list from the personal finance website, wallet hub of states most affected by the government shutdown. Michigan is not listed in the top ten and for that matter states least affected by the government shutdown only our neighbor Ohio is listed, but Michigan is somewhere in the middle there, and and just chugging along. Let me ask you quickly. You're on CNN over the weekend, Debbie, and you talked a little bit about the spy situation or so-called, Paul Whalen in Novi. And we had talked on the air ourselves yesterday. Coming back on that. It was probably all about this twenty nine year old Maria Boutin ah the Russian being arrested for being a spy the student at American University. And that this was kind of a tit for tat situation. What are your thoughts? Know, I think we've all. I've been very clear and everything that I've said we need the facts, and I think our delegation in a very bipartisan way, we'll work to protect every Michigan citizen. He originally lived in my district and went to school in Arbor with his brother. He's now living which is Hayley Stevens district. But I think we're all going to work together. Everybody in this delegation to get the facts to understand what's happening. And S State Department to help us bring him home. But I think we've got to be very careful to not speculate. Not talk about facts, we don't have. And we're all trying to get the data right now. Congressman Walberg make any New Year's resolutions. Well, the only resolution is I I've made is to do the best job. I can for the people I serve and that's a resolution. I think that's the that's capable of being done. I think that's what we're talking about. What we're doing today? And remember as we as we think about this American in Russia. We also think about the farmers the individual citizens in our southern states are western states in the house, we pass legislation along with the border funding and the wall funding that would also take care of disaster relief. We sent that the Senate, and so that's taking care of Americans. Farmers. That's taken care of individuals citizens that lost so much as a result of this Astor's, the natural resource problems that we have. I think we need to get this taken care of now. Protect American citizens move this country forward and to give the president and opportunity to sign or veto whatever moves forward, but let's not hold it up. It's a responsible in congress to get the job done. I hope the Senate axe congresswoman dangle any resolutions. Now, I just wanna keep working for the people in Michigan. I I'm it's a new year. And someone said, what are you talking about new beginnings? Well, when it's a new year you keep trying I love I'm proud to be Michigander. It's going to be a year of auto negotiations are coming up auto shows in two weeks, Tim, we'll be at the auto show with me. We'll bring the partisan delegation once again to look forward to it. We will look forward to having you hosting you there at the auto show. Thank you both for being with us. Thank you both for working together. One last quick question. You can do this with a yes or no, congressman Dingell. Are you backing Elizabeth Warren for president? I am inviting every one of the thirty one candidates for president to come visit Michigan. I wanna see what they say. My district some many reflection of the country, and I'm not endorsing anybody until I see what they're saying. And how they campaign. All right. Thank you. I didn't expect anything other than that congresswoman, Debbie Dingle. Congressman Tim Walberg. I'm not even asking you. If you're supporting Mitt Romney. We'll get to that another conversation for that. Where we're two minutes late. So believe me, we'll talk congressman Walberg is no stranger to this show either. So we'll talk. Thank you. Thank you. Both. Appreciate it. And we're late seven twenty twenty-six. Message and data rates may apply. When did it become ok for.
