"Or wherever you listen to your podcasts. In chicago we'd been following the living wage argument and the big box resolution trying to keep walmart stores out of the city the so-called living wage. Ordinance that would have required mega retailers in chicago to pay their workers. Higher wages was successfully turned back yesterday as supporters on the city council couldn't muster enough votes to override the veto of the mayor. Richard daley daily veto. The ordinance this week saying it would cost the city jobs. That would hurt people who need those jobs. The most he was able to convince enough men who voted in favor of the ordinance in july to change their votes vote was thirty one to eighteen in favor of overriding the veto which was three short of the necessary votes to do so here. Is brian in chicago. Welcome sir it's great to have you on the eib network rush. It is an honor. I am thrilled. This is going to be my talk at a week with everybody Yeah coming from. The land was flagrant walnut illegal. I got two things. I wanna tell you really quick one my thinking on walmart. Why democrats don't like it is because walmart has managed to fill a lot of the promises. The democratic party has not been able to fulfil. and they did it solely based off of the rules of capitalism and. I think one of the things that angers them very much at walmart for doing what they do and for doing what they've done. There's no question we touched on this earlier in the in the program. I think it's even more detail than that. There's no question that they resent middle-class success. But but here you have to understand. The liberal attitude liberals are arrogantly condescending the last thing liberals want is to be thought of as part of the middle class there above all that these people are are elitists and and the the people that are enjoying life at walmart working there and shopping. There don't need liberals it's an affront. It's an offense to liberalism that something like this. Like walmart could become so big and so successful the middle class because liberals look at themselves as the providers for the middle class and it just offends them. It's they have this arrogance towards these. They have haven't arrogance toward most. Everybody can't do what's right in life can't make the right decisions. Not smart enough. There is a contempt and arrogance for these people and when these people have this product in this place and the people that work there happy and the people shop there enjoy the benefits. They get from shopping there. It just makes a mets. They how come they don't appreciate us. And these people become enemies and so the shop the whole company must be attacked and shut down so that liberals will once again control those people's lives and fortunes and this is tight of the second thing we're wondering when you were talking about women I gotta tell ya rush my girlfriend. Greatest girl in the world. When i found her she was She was nineteen is about four or five years ago and her and her family. they're all. They're all liberal democrat. They all you know. The the parents were divorced and her and her brothers and sisters. They all they were taught was just you know. Wait till the check comes in from dad. The money was just spent on garbage. They were just you know. Wait for welfare to come in. Wait for the grandparents to take care of things. The grandparents will pay for the house. Everything is taken care of. And they were never taught to think for themselves. It will never taught to to go out and work for themselves to always depend on other people and My girlfriend i found her. She was working at a comic book shop. And i love her so much. I started instilling. These conservative values. You know to to think for yourself to keep your compassion but to not depend on others. And i'm telling you that you know we to this day. She's twenty three years old. She owns her own house. She has a degree. She's working downtown. Do we what she likes to do. She wants to be an accountant. She's so she's doing what she wants to do. Downtown in the building. Next to the sears. Tower she's thrilled. She signed the deal for her own house at twenty three years old. She's going towards a masters degree. She's going perjure. Cpa she's already got ideas of of being her own boss in five ten years having her. Let me ask you a question Fun then a follow up is she. White Yes all right Well not there's no need for a follow up question. I mean just going to tell you that not personally but a woman like your girlfriend is an enemy to liberals and to explain her success. They can't reward her. They can't say she's got ambition. She's willing to work hard. Because that's not possible in america anymore bush's so ruined the economy that the only way this could be happening with some sort of favoritism or other people with less advantages fewer advantages are not being treated fairly and she's being treated in in a in a in a way that that discriminates against others they cannot credit individual success. They simply they wanna punish it with high taxes. They wanna make it tough for people who succeed to continue to succeed because they resent it they look down upon it and they will excuse it and the last thing they will do is credit people like your girlfriend for their own success saying there had. It's just like when they lose elections. It can't be because people aren't voting form. It has to be because people are cheating and monkeying with the chad's the ballots. The voting machines same token your growth. go ahead. You got ten seconds. Though time is dwindling here on. She worked with irving job. You know back when she was still making money to pay for college and back. Then everybody you know. They loved her the got along and as soon right. It was kind of writing out at the kind of turned against her for that. I can tell you're you're proud as you can be over. And that's fabulous. I i love hearing calls like this. You should continue to be..

"It is to try to teach the downtrodden the forgotten the hungry and thirsty that the democrats care about them. What it really is a way to goose union wages up because good old union negotiators in chicago are now going to say all people that don't know how to count beyond ten and have only been in the country for a couple of years are gonna make ten bucks an hour at a box store at checkout line or somewhere stock and things on shelves will good for them. We want to raise our union contract. Next time it comes up the higher. The minimum wage goes the higher the baseline for union contracts. Are this is such a scam and of course since the city of chicago and it's union deals it makes with the city with other people is actually paid by chicago. Taxpayers people like toni preckwinkle. Don't really have to think of the money. Coming out of her. Purser pocket booker back pocket whichever she prefers al in in chicago. Welcome sir nice to have you on the program rush. Nice nice to talk to you. I think you search acog. I'm at moscow on michigan This is nothing more than a political act. it's also an act that will impact greatly on the poorest of the people in chicago. You know chicago. There's a ring of poverty around that very successful core downtown. Those folks rely on public transportation. They won't be able to benefit from the targets. The walmarts and the discounts are available. You know ben stein. The economist has many times said that walmart is the greatest anti poverty program going but this is also a political act. You know. they'll cancel this out if they begin to see stores growing and being built right across the line in suburban communities. And that is what will happen because it happened with gas stations. Gas stations. rim the city where it's already started walmart's already said they're going to build a store in one of these Economically depressed places and the people live. There love it. That's excellent. that's an excellent point. Excellent point if these stores get built outside the and you said it not. I the ring of poverty in in chicago then. The primary beneficiaries of a walmart store won't be able to get there to take or they'll go broke getting there and won't be able to spend any money once they do get their absolutely. Can i tell you k. Mart home depot lowe's. They're they're building right now in evergreen park and these are communities that are one black you know. They share a border with the city of chicago and they do it because also sales tax in chicago. If you cross the street you go into indiana you go from eight eight and a half percent to six and chicago is hurting itself. But chicago has always done. This is not unique captive constituency. That's kept him. But that's that's not. I mean that that's true in the sales tax. I mean in In new jersey. They bumped up the sales tax on some luxury. Cars and boats wants and people just went pennsylvania and they ended up having to resend the tax because liberals think raising taxes raises revenue. They do not understand the dynamic aspects of of raising or cutting lowering taxes. But i'm gonna a taste something here. This is I want to ask you about the mayor because you obviously in chicago. You're closer to at night. And the other day this wacko bunch of city council people actually passed a transfat ordinance or they're working on it and and and and and mayor daley. "If all that's if that's all you're going to do You're not going to have a sense of what makes the country run. And pretty soon you fall into the routine that the country can't run unless I get reelected again from my 16th zillion term. Um what? What are your thoughts on that? I mean, you are the classic small businessman. I mean everything about you. Says. This is exactly the kind of person and mindset that we should have in the United States Senate. Just give me your sort of thoughts on these folks and that sort of philosophy. It is so well said, and thank you. I mean, the day I launched my campaign, I signed a term limit pledged to serve more than two terms in the United States. And the day we launched the campaign. It was that important before I did any interviews. Before we made any call Major calls I I signed that pledge and send him to term limits USA. So that's that's sort of the core of what I believe. Let's put it this way. If we had more business people, more business, women and businessmen in elected office at all levels of government, we would have a lot more common sense and a lot less. Let's call it what it is. Stupidity right in what world does it make sense in what world does it make sense as a policy maker to say that Wal Mart can be open? And the small business on the corner has to be shut. The mom and pop has to be shut. Yes. What? What world does that make sense? Right? It only makes sense to a bureaucrat. I don't know if you've heard this story, Jeff. On the day that the governor the governor, Wolf announced his his shutdowns for all non life sustaining businesses. As you said at the time, a friend of mine called into the governor's office and said, my constituents You sit down laundry nets. How are my constituents supposed to wash their clothing and the governor's office is I'm not going to the governor. But it was the staffers. Response was well, only only college students use laundromats. Oh, my Now nothing. I mean, And every time I say that on the campaign trail, I always pause and say somewhere, Marie Antoinette is smiling. Yeah. Only in a world of career politicians and elites. Who think that they know better than than the people who who make it happen every day only in their world. Does this make sense? Um, columnist wrote about this in December, Jeff, she wrote. In talking about the disconnect between the elites and Main Street. She talked about how it's so bad now, because as your point that many of these people these career politicians, these elites, they they have no sense of what happens on Main Street. In any community, and so they failed to recognize or even care. She wrote that the shuttering of a store is quite literally the death of a dream. And this whole Senate campaign that I'm running is about is about saving Main Street, Pennsylvania and empowering Women and men working families across Pennsylvania to live their lives and to raise their families, Jeff the one thing that stood out over the last year, probably more than anything in my conversations. Small business owners wanted nothing from the government. Except the level playing field. All they asked for. All they asked for. They wanted nothing else. Just let me live my life, protect my family. Take care of my employees and customers and run my business The way that I know how to Latin America. I've got a I've got to close this at Jeff because we're going to have a break. But I just want to end on one thought exactly about that. That I just heard. We all just heard. From President Obama or President Obama President Biden the other day when they were talking about people not returning to work and everything and he says in that whisper, pay them more. And I'm thinking you have absolutely no idea. Ever in your life of what it's like to run a small business, None. Joe Biden was elected to the United States Senate. The year I was born, he has been in elected office at some level before I was born, and I am 48 deaf so What the heck? No. I mean, what the heck does he know about running a store? Exactly What does he know? Nothing. Zero thing. Well, clearly you do, Jeff, and we wish you nothing but the best of luck here. And thanks very much is the website there? You.

"Now you're like an honest honestly say this is the first time that I've ever talked about lipstick or we'll be talking about lipstick on the show. So walk me down this story. Well, you know it was I. Over the past year, The lipstick and cosmetic industry took quite the hit because nobody was dressing up for going and nobody was dressing up and going anywhere and the mask thing caused a big problem now. I'm a huge lipstick fan. I am probably in my purse as we speak. I probably have 20 tubes of lipstick. Why? I know nobody. No man ever understands that it's just because I have done. I have my choices. And then I feel like I don't know who he is Your purse, though. I mean, it's gotta be waiting. Well, it's heavy. Yeah, no doubt. I mean, it's It's got some weight to it. I could. I could probably knock you out if I hit you with that knocked me right off up here. I think that for a lot of women, you know, that was one thing that we missed a lot because I feel naked. If I don't have mascara and lipstick on those of the two stables that I have to have, and lipstick sales are up. 80% there up 80% as this pandemic has kind of, like, started tow level off, and people are taking the mass often things like that. I mean, I don't know. It's and the crosses the board with lipstick or lip gloss, or I mean, there's all kinds of stuff that you could get. But I just found a fascinating that the industry itself is up 80% looking at some of the numbers, they typically sell pre pandemic $40 million with the lipstick a month. It's almost back to that. You know, you said it's up 80%. I just think that people are especially women, or just so ready to shut the mask and at least feel it. I don't know It's you Don't You don't spackle it on, but it's an enhancement. And you just feel better about yourself when you think that you look better. So it suggests to me that during the all the zoo meetings and all the meetings that were done virtually that They weren't putting lipstick go. I don't think they were going out and shopping is what I was thinking. You weren't buying any new stuff. They weren't buying any new stuff. And so women out there make may agree with me, but I just always It makes me happy to go on. Get new lipstick. What's the thing of lipstick cost 10 bucks? It can vary I mean, some of the if you go and get like a do your if you go high end that could be 30 35 bucks for a tube. If you go to Walmart or Walgreens or something like that, it's probably around 10 15. There's a I mean, That's why I'm glad I'm a guy. Well, you know what? Don't make required. You get what you get is no, no. I'd be curious to see how the cosmetic industry bounces back over all because now we are going out. Now we do want to get dressed up. Now we do want to go out and be amongst the living A very well. I just have this conversation at at an event the other day. Um All of the suit. The men's wear stuff. Women's clothing, anything involved with going out, you know, even buying clothes for vacation? That's all going to pick up well, and that's I think, What's the most interesting thing about this whole lipstick story? It's not just about lipstick, and like what I we talked about with Dave about consumer confidence. I think people are just theirs. They're sick of being in their house, and they're just ready to go. And all of that comes into play. Like you said. With the clothing and the gyms. They're gonna like my gym opened up completely. I don't have to wear a mask anymore when I'm working out, and it's great. I don't have to wear a mask in the hallways around here. I mean intervention right? Because I'm vaccinated. And you know it was weird. I was in the grocery store yesterday, and that was an experience. I had my mask on. And then I started watching all these people walking around with no man. Gonna like, What am I doing this thing? It's habits. You'll get used to wearing it. And so I took my mask off and you're gonna laugh, But I had my person my cart and I went and got a lipstick. Put it on. Now you've mentioned Wal Mart. It's one of their top performers. Let's say Yeah, I'm not. I don't doubt it. I think that's still the nation's biggest retail chain. Right. Wal Mart. That's a big deal. You know what it is. It's just It's a simple way to make yourself feel just a little bit better. It's like putting on a squirt of cologne or perfume or something again. I'm glad I'm a guy. All right after the break we got there's some incredible stories, these wedding stories, and now we're going stag party stories. "But when the virus hit I heard on podcast sports podcast that sports card collecting has shot up and you and I were talking about it off the air. And you told me this morning. You said there's people that Have no interest in sports, no interest in collecting guards, and they go to the stores, and they buy all these boxes just to resell them for and up the price. And I told you the story of last Friday when Was going back towards home to hit some soft balls with my buddy and he collects cards as well. And for the last 6 to 8 months, places like Wal Mart and Target. They don't have the collectors boxes. They don't even have the single packs like you could go in there. You could buy a box of baby for 20 bucks. So He called me the other day when I was driving home and he's okay. He's like they just restocked their card shelves, and that's the first time I've heard of that in months, and he said Yeah, but you're only a lot of money, A max of two boxes per purchase, and they'll write your name down. They'll take your idea because you got these people are getting a look at these people Don't come in, go by every single box and go sell them on eBay for double the price. So and this is the issue, And I'm gonna bring hammers in here with us. And I know he has at various times in his life collected the sports cars. But this is a big issue. Because now you've got rationing. You've got the same thing going on in a call in the collector hobby where they call these people flippers. Where they're not interested in the hobby itself. The same thing is going on in the housing market, where people have all this access to money because all this money has been thrown into the economy, and the same thing is happening with sports cards and sports memorabilia, which look ah, home is far more important in your existence compared to you know, sports cards or coins or whatever you collect, But we're having these people have so much access to cash and money is so cheap. That you're driving people out of markets and hammer. This is really scary stuff. Yeah, And you know who I blame for all of this nerds because it's not just sports cards. I mean, these Pokemon cards are insane. People grown ass.

Lack of Paid Sick Time Could Be a Barrier to Vaccination

"Of today everyone sixteen and older is now eligible to receive a covid vaccine in every single state more than two hundred million shots have already been given in the us so far about half of all adults have received at least one dose. The vaccine is free whether you have health insurance or not but even minus the massive logistics of distributing the vaccine there are logistics involved in getting it and some workers are having trouble getting paid time off to get their shots or to deal with side effects from the workplace culture desk. Marketplace's megan mccarthy carino has the story when washington dc software engineer lori. Barth got the vaccine last month Kind of kicked her but headache chills. brain fog. I don't think i could have read taxed on screen comfortably. Loan sit up in a chair. Barth didn't have to worry about working through the pain because she got her vaccine on a weekend and she has plenty of paid sick time. She could've used but not all workers do says vicki shavuot a senior fellow with new america. And you could very easily see how it would be financially impossible and potentially job risking for a worker to be able to get a vaccine. There is no national requirement that employers offer any sick leave much less a couple of days to get vaccinated and low wage. Essential workers are among the least likely to have paid time off says elite schools with the economic policy institute. They may not have a lot of power negotiate for when the best time is to have the vaccines that they make sure. They don't have to work the next day. "Into this for months. Crisco starts a soft with the story of a man who witnessed the deadliest domestic terror attack. 2019 Guillermo Glynn is well known in El Paso's Mexican American community. He's 79 now and he's been a community organizer and labor rights activist. For most of his life. We conducted a lot of protest. We block the bridge. You went to jail on August 3rd 2019. He was just going about his weekend routine. It was a Saturday morning, right and around 10 o'clock so going to Wal Mart to buy his pet food, and I was way in the back, and I heard his great big noise a warning. Gamma was going to share graphic details about what happened that day. A large number of families, women and men We're running towards me from the front of the building. And then I noticed at least where the women that was dripping blood. That's where there's something really wrong. I ran into the woman who is she had Both her legs had received some type of this shrapnel or bullet wounds, and she was bleeding. So I start there to help her and I grabbed the First aid kit and tried to at least tend to her wounds on her legs. One of the fireman or paramedic came until you you have to get her out. We're getting everybody out of the store. So we put her in a winner. There was grocery baskets. When he wheeled the woman to the front. He saw what had happened right at the front door. There was a lot of blood. I knew the end that there'd been a shooter. It was very dramatic thing. You know, I saw the body of the man with half his head shot off. "Your back with Mike and Rob. And when Gwyneth Paltrow came out with the $75 candle that supposedly Smelled like her undercarriage, and it sold out like immediately because people are insane. And I was not expecting as I was, You know, kind of browsing through news yesterday, looking on the social media platforms and the various news sites to see a headline that said Gwyneth Paltrow is Vagina. Candle explodes in UK Woman's home You don't expect to see that that's not something that you ever expect to see. And yet that was, in fact, the headline Now to be fair to the woman's home. The where this candle exploded. That woman won the candle in some sort of Ah quiz show type of situation she did not actually spend money on, said Candle. But it exploded and like burst into flames with all kinds of candle bits flying all over the place it cause like a total inferno in the room. And so in the midst of all that this woman and her boyfriend like somehow figured out a way to throw this like on fire candle out the front door because it basically could've burned their place down. But that is ah. Now you have to. There's a warning. Now that comes along with this particular scented candle that you know it may explode. So just be careful who is the customer base for this? It's a great question, especially because it's sold out on that group website of Gwyneth Paltrow is which I would presume is visited mostly by women, so I don't No. I mean I am a woman, and I don't want a candle that smells like that right? Because, you know, I always refer back to Scripture and that is Don't judge lest ye be judged. I've never heard you revert back to Scripture so well, I do Okay. And what I do in my own time is really none of your business. So I was, but I am wondering is the client base Women who envy her or weird perverts who want to to smell that? I don't know. If you're a person who has bought that candle, please call our hotline at once and explain yourself. The number is 317684844 forks. I don't get it. Do we know what they cost? $75.75 dollars handle? Yeah. So it's not even like well, just see, just for curiosity's sake. And you like shell out 10 bucks for it. No, you are making as serious buying commitment because I have long wondered this about shoes. Maybe because maybe Jacob can just nod or say yes or No? Because Jacob's a shoe guy he has are the Air Jordans, which are uber expensive. Are they actually a better Version of sure they a better brand. Sure they $100 better than the shoes I'm currently wearing. Yes. Why? How is that possible, like? Is it a quality thing? Okay, a personal perspective. Okay, but so that that's why I think it's like, Is this candle by whatever. Don't know how you judge a candle. It burns that it liked. Well, it smells good or it doesn't smell good, right? I mean, usually when you buy a scented candle, it's to like, make a room smell good. That's the purpose of a sense of cancer. The that is that is my point. You can go to Wal Mart and get a scented candle for five bucks, right? Right, Okay. And it and it makes the room smell like whatever the flavor of the candle is. That's not something that can. I mean, I guess people could make a case for some candles, maybe lasting longer than others. In terms of the quality of the candle, you maybe you spend more money on a candle but last longer Because it's somehow made better. But in this case, I mean, $75 for a candle isn't saying And that's the way many things are other than like, I always thought, like other than doctors and lawyers, overpriced stuff usually usually isn't worth the money. No, I don't want to go see Dr Nick Riviera from The Simpsons, 99 95, You know for my doctor. I'm going to pay a little more for that. But a lot of the other stuff. The name brand stuff, the special stuff. It's not any better than the off brand stuff. I mean, in a lot of cases, that's true. And then in some cases, that's not true. So, for example, and we've talked about this before, because you've made fun of how much I spent on my purse, right? But I contest can tell you that a Louisville Thanh bag. You have a real Louisville video. I mean, I have one Louisville Thanh bag. And it was a gift from my husband for not my butt, like a birthday or something. And it was a lot of money like a crazy amount of money. A stupid amount of money for a purse. I thought except that I've been carrying it now for five years, and it looks brand new. It will not wear out. Yeah, but you could have got Five coach purses during that That's what I used to get his coach bags and they would wear out almost immediately. Five coach bags is still a lot cheaper than that one. Louisville Thanh, I've seen the prices of the Louisville Aton store. No joke. They had to resuscitate me off the ground. To be fair. I got the cheapest one. You know what I mean? Like the chief was only eight grand, huh? It was not a grand But I'm saying it was worth it because I have not bought any person since then, and I would get a coach like every year and a half because they would wear out. Yeah, it's just it's You're never going to sell me because I'm the guy who I was. I was cold yesterday, and I had that 30% coupon. Yeah, it was like I got to buy something. And I sat there for 10 minutes debating whether I should get to t shirts for $25 with a 30% off coupon, So it's just It's not just I'm not that person and I just can't justify spending that amount of land. Ultimately, it has saved me. Money is my point. How many persons do you own my own way more than I need right now, because that is the only person I carry and so all these ones that I've had for years and years and years and years and years. I feel bad for them because they just sit and collect dust because I only carry the one that I know is going to always look good. No matter how long I have it. I thought there was a town ordinance in Carmel. All women had to have leave it on a person's Oh, there's no town. Does anybody want breakfast?.

We Quentin Brogden, attorney with Crane, Brogden and Rogers in Dallas. I quit. Here's what's hard for folks to understand. And that is there are other big companies out there begin small companies. But you know big companies like Wal Mart. But then you have small companies like a bake shop, who were told that they can't refuse service. Just someone because you know, based on their sexual preference or things of that nature. Yet we see this and it looks like that Republicans and conservatives are being refused service. Because of their beliefs or because of where they come down on a certain issue. What will prohibit Wal Mart or somebody Chevrolet or another big company like that from saying, You know what, not selling cars to conservatives. We saw what you posted online or are we saw that bumper sticker on the back your vehicle. We're not going to someone to you. What keeps him from doing that? Well, you raise a good point. We should not have the platforms curating and censoring simply because they don't agree. If something is inciting people to violence. That's a horse of one color. And there can be some subject Yvette E. And that it isn't always a black and white determination, but we should not have. We should not allow any platform. Sensor speakers or posters or, you know twitterers simply based on the fact they don't agree with the political view, that's clear, and I also think, As I said, the consensus has developed that there's just too subjective. These large companies seem to be making up the rules as they go along. We need more predictability and consistency and how this is managed in whether it's the right or the left being censored. Wouldn't be censoring folks simply based on their political views. You know, this is all coming off What happened in Washington, D. C. Did I'm not asking you for your political affiliation. I'm asking you for your Professional law. Advice here. Did Trump do anything to cause in his tweets or whatever. Did he do anything to cause writing? I haven't read through all of his tweets, so I can't give you any kind of definitive answer. There's some subject Yvette Ian it. There's an argument to be made that he did. There's also an argument to be made that he did not and what we have is we have individual companies making up their own rules, and they're making that call and it just seems And I think that's as I said, the consensus is that we've given these companies too much power to decide who gets to speak, and about what You could cynically say that the move that some of these companies made seems to be time to the fact that perhaps he's leaving office.
