"Morning and grain Chicago day may fourteenth Thursday it's Bob's garage glad you there with us I was just looking across the way here from our building on east Wacker there's a high rise apartment building or condo and I see this every morning there is there's there's a woman I can barely make out the figure because it's it's pretty far away but I can see through the window and she's on some sort of exercise machine and I see here in the morning and edit she makes you feel like a slog because she is moving so fast and whatever apparatus she's on she looks like Mick Jagger James Brown or you know dancing I mean it is crazy how fast she's going this makes you want to do something I feel like all of your customized yeah I yeah I did burpees here at five at five o'clock in the morning to wake up but yeah I mean I think I think I don't know if maybe she's watching some video and doing some dance or something but while not a peloton as she could so I can't I can't make it out and I don't I don't think I'd be right for me to bring the bacula is out now I think that's enough seen enough thank America exercising in her pajamas no no I she well I think she's it looks like she's wearing like a some sort of black work out suit of some sort sell my report this morning from three oh three east Wacker here on the eighteenth floor we're talking about grocery grocery stores and shortages of Steve was talking about his his problems at the jewel in the city I see that overall the price of groceries up two point six percent the biggest increase from one month to the Nexans nineteen seventy four wow prices at the supermarket rising sharply because the corona virus has disrupted the food supply chain also panic shopping customers are buying lots of food they don't need to immediately east that's for sure one of the biggest increases and and this is usually something you can count on as being relatively cheap egg prices shot up sixteen percent last month food supplies are pinged demand is high that makes the prices go up don't have prices up five percent cookies up five percent oranges and other citrus fruits up five and a half percent chicken up almost six percent hot dogs almost six percent and that's a problem for you is yes it is the watch my budget more kids are home they're eaten more hot dogs as parents are running out of ideas Aaron salads fell by three point six percent and we'll figure this out fresh cupcakes fell two point three percent we're craving comfort foods that nutritionists we talked to yesterday was talking about frozen foods and Hester which which frozen mac and cheese is the best and she said none of them hello and she wasn't very big on the brand that is called healthy choice he didn't like that either no the cupcakes part of that story is a little concerning I know I haven't been buying anything sweet just because I'm trying to eat healthier but I thought about it and I thought you know what I think if I'm gonna buy anything it's gonna be pre packaged is there any concern about like stuff that's in the baked goods area I mean can we is it stuffing handle can we eat that I mean I think that might be a good question for next expert well you know what it usually they would have individual muffins and and cookies so you could you know grab one of those plastic things and and take one and now I notice the most stores they the E. U. you have to buy them in a plastic box you can't just buy one cookie you can't just take one muffin out usually it's it's packaged up in plastic so I would think that's safe yeah even the bagels you know how you grab bagels yeah man and stuff at the jewel I don't know I haven't done it lately but in all begs the question are we ever going to be able to go back to that are we ever going to be able to grab bagels and is there ever going to be a salad bar again well let me tell you this is the thing that really depresses me because I'm a and I've mentioned this before one of the reasons I love the farmers markets one of the reasons I love shopping at places like Costco and trader Joe's it's because of the samples that you get what fun is it now yeah it's gonna be a long time before before we get that again for sure he stood volunteer to go to Casco at lunch time if I was hungry and then trader Joe's with all they'd always be cooking up something in the back give you some sample there and then of course you know you get you get a little small sample and then became a cruise around the aisles and and wait for the person preparing the samples to go in the back to get to get some new something new back there and then you go back and get another one take another one at six seventeen already Alex you know weather in traffic update take care a little business and get to the top six and six S. it's going to be rainy today but warm at least Steve yeah and we have some thunderstorms rolling through the area right now we've been keeping a very close watch on radar this morning but this hour thunderstorms are being reported at the page airport and out of Rockford and they of radar screen is becoming more covered with rain and thunderstorms this morning that's going to be the story of the day expect a high up near seventy three today more rain and thunderstorms tonight maybe some severe thunderstorms and heavy rain low fifty eight morning clouds tomorrow lingering rain high near seventy two right now in Chicago fifty five at o'hare it's fifty five at midway fifty five along the lakefront and without the rain coming through starting to see a bunch of accidents one on I. eighty heading westbound at Harlem accident westbound on I. ninety the Jane Addams right before Beverly car went into the wall there and also in accidents on the Keeler on ramp on the opposite side of the Kennedy CTA redline experiencing some delays due to earlier police activity I merry band fell from the IDA traffic center reminding you to drive responsibly.

"We're on the eighteenth floor of the Bob's around building thrill three east Wacker and we'll we'll across the river we see you the Sheraton Chicago hotel and we can look into the exercise room and you see through the windows you see I was looking everybody on on the treadmill this morning all the people there look like a rats on on a wheel who like durables it is somehow it looks it looks sad to me to see to see that and if you're if you're exercising this morning and your goal is to lose fat especially around the belly you cannot specifically spot reduce you you need to target body fat as a whole this is the latest from the experts who say consistent diet and exercise play a role in this but it's true that some work outs do burn fat faster and more efficiently than others so what's the best work out for burning fat fast you might think it's cardio like running get on that treadmill cycling or swimming but now they say all cardio plays a big role in a healthy lifestyle is not the most effective way to shed fast according to two trainers in this article that title goes to resistance training especially the kind that involves high intensity circuits to get a hit the weights as well the combination of high intensity interval training and resistance training is seriously affected according to certified personal trainer Ashley Kelly who trains clients in New York City she says essentially you're performing a set of exercises designed to strengthen specific body parts with little to no rest between exercises it's a pretty simple formula you build muscle through strength training either with the weights for body weight exercises and you Max out your heart rate by doing it in fast intense circuits another head trainer and a personal training coach puts it this way resistance training with an elevated heart rate is the fastest way to lose fat but don't you kinda gain weight because muscle weight weighs more than fat well what they're saying is it all comes down to the muscle building aspect cardio does wonders you getting your heart rate up it does not engage your build muscles the way resistance training does cardio can actually break muscle down if you do too much of it without proper fuel right so just a little bit of everything but it may awful trading yes he's right your your weight might increase that turn fat to muscle or is the milk muscle and lose fat that's my good but he's still not that's not necessarily bad now and you can tell when your pants are too tight you know that's the that's again it's better than the scale to measure right with high intensity resistance training the whole point is to build muscle not only do you burn major calories throughout the work out thanks to your elevated heart rate but you also keep burning them throughout the day one doctor here says there's a direct correlation between individuals muscle mass and how many calories he or she burns muscle burns fat even when you're resting the more muscle you have the higher your is your resting metabolic rate the more calories you burn even when you're chilling on the couch sedentary also my muscle will weighs more than my fat but my muscles also getting rid of my fat kind of that would use that doctor brown so here's what this means for your workout schedule the these trainers and doctors in this article I'll recommend balancing.

California Cities Turn To Hired Hooves To Help Prevent Massive Wildfires

"Are a part of nature. If you have fuel meaning lots of dry stuff and wildland it will eventually burn. People can keep fires from spreading so quickly by removing some of that fuel in advance. You can try a controlled burn. Hired hands can clear it or hired hooves can eat it. That's a bit of Megan. Monagas exclusive interview with firefighting fighting goats. It's lunchtime at deer. Canyon Park in Anaheim California pokey peggy and the rest of the roughly four hundred goods on the Parker hungry. The city hire these good as part of this wildfire prevention efforts to Canada's long and hilly with a few walking paths in the middle of a residential neighborhood this whole embankment meant going up to the homes. This is the kind of departure fee that they go excel in. That's Johnny Gonzales. He hires his good different cities. Businesses and homeowners associations associations across southern California. These goats have been at this park for about five months clearing out invasive plants and brush that poses challenges during these wildfire. That's and when we can go ahead and reduce the fuel loads and take out the invasive plants and established a native plants on these banks view reestablishing the ecology city recently upped. Its contract with Gonzales to have the guts working nearly year round. He's getting so many requests from other potential clients not can't take on all of them. One California town even had a gofundme campaign to support bringing in goods for Wildfire Abatement Anaheim's aspira Marshall Allen Hogue. Doesn't that go part of their fire. Management plans because they have a particularly useful skill where the goats grazed all that off and see the steepness of it. And that's why we use the GO-TO be almost impossible for a human to sit there and walk up and down with a weed wacker a weed eater goats are really good at eating stuff right. That's Bethany Bradley. She teaches environmental conservation at the University of Massachusetts. Amherst the challenge with them. Though is that it. You can't just do it once. They need to go back time and time again in order to keep controlling that biomass. She's the CO author of a study that recently came out on invasive grasses and plants Bradley and the other researchers found that invasive grasses double or triple the likelihood of a fire rang if they're present in short they're very very flammable and they're masters of moving and spreading into places where they don't belong and then a lot of cases like they're already there and the is environments that are going to become better here for them with climate change so they've got like a huge like up on on native plants using goats alone isn't enough though wildfire numbers can be balloon overgrazed areas onto houses and buildings the city of Anaheim says the goats are a key part of their fire prevention plans. But there's just one piece of the puzzle that also includes he sensing satellite images and wildfire detection cameras Johnny Gonzalez who hires out. His goat says that they're not just a tool but something more one of the best comments of our God ought instead. I didn't realize how peaceful it would be the goats here and that's very rewarding in my job where a lot of public perception actually stopped. Stop the use of goats in the early stages and now that the public perception has been opened up and they see the benefits. That's been my greatest reward that the public has had a chance to interact with them. He says the community looks to the goats and asks when they'll be coming back for N._P._R.. News I'm Megan. Menaka in Anaheim California.

"Seven twenty WGN John Hansen in for day plyer until five o'clock on this Easter Sunday morning. Thanks so much for joining us here. Really? Appreciate it. Curtis. Coca producing today into Roger badesch in the newsroom and news out the window Roger. Yeah. I know they're still out there. They're going to be out for some time. So I was just tweeted with Eric attendant who does a lot of scanner updates and done does a lot of Twitter reports and he's three eleven this morning leagues. For driving Wacker person shot black SUV with two males sled westbound on Wacker. And then more cars in the area than now. Get an update male in his thirty shot in the chest. So obviously, we hope for his safety. This is not an isolated incident. I I went back start checking on on. We don't see everything on a lot of the feeds a couple of them that we if we go and check if we have like a single feed, okay. On the screen or you're talking about the cameras. No, no, no. I'm talking about on on some of our your new services new services. So apparently, it is been a very busy night really for shootings. Sixteen hundred block of south Christiana seven rounds. Twenty four hundred block south Christiana ten rounds. Forty three hundred block west Wilcock six rounds twelve thousand block of south may fourteen rounds. There's a lot of shooting going out tonight. I mean, I know it has nothing to do. Of course, the fact that when it's put in perspective on the holiday for this Passover for Easter time of peace, and then we've got a bombings in Sri Lanka and puts it in perspective. If you've got a family that you're close with you have and people you love around you just to hold on extra tight, of course. Because you never have you just look out here on Wacker. And it's like Roger try this too. I on every week. At this time of night to and I've never honest to goodness since we've moved to the building. So it's almost a year. I have never had to deal with a police presence. Yeah. On my drive in. Thankfully, I mean, a lot of people have to deal with it every day with where they live. We're very blessed, you know, down in this area. We're usually pretty safe off. Of course, you consider are safe. Now, I have had to deal with and have seen during my shifts. And I think it might sound familiar, but there are some hotels that are long inner lakeshore drive right of a just north of the river. I believe the w is is one of the hotels there and on the warmer night. I'm constantly seeing reports of shootings at that hotel or shootings at the hotel next with or people coming from an event there that are making their way across lake shore drive and fighting and making the way across to the to the beach to the lakefront, and and that section of lake shore drive is I don't wanna say Torius, but is well known right for how for having those incidents every every night almost but especially on the weekends. And and that's why more wear of it. Because that's when I work is the overnight on the weekend. So again, seeing this they we're still looking at seven or eight of Chicago police department vehicles for them in one section on lower Wacker just before just west of of lower lake shore drive. And then about another three vehicles on lower lake shore drive. So again traffic being diverted around that intersection. They continue this investigation. Roger I've been looking at some of these two menu are right. I think the story on Monday morning is unfortunately, going to be a an last week and was bad too. This warmer weather these things happen. Unfortunately, of course, but to shot three hundred v west one hundred fourth place this going back to the early parts of last evening. One hundred and fourteen in church mail shot and killed thirty years old. You mentioned the ones that you had earlier kidnapping to as well. And then she just. It's just too bad. I could dive into it deeper, and we could have a broader discussion. I don't think this is the time and the place for it. But certainly as you mentioned before you would think that on a holiday weekend like this especially with these holidays, you would think that this would not be happening. Yeah. And just we just know that not to be true Rodriguez. I know it doesn't take a break. And bless the officers who are working this evening and trying to do their best to keep the city safe. And hope everyone out there listening to as well. And we just something that you know, we got a new administration coming through in a couple of weeks. Hopefully, we got some new plans because whatever's happening right now working, and I know that they've been touting and chatted with superintendent Eddie Johnson who's a good, man. And they're doing what they can. And they were very happy with the March crime data was very low. Right. They've been touting the last several months that it keeps dropping dropping entropy and we're giving right? We're giving numbers a snapshot of one night, actually. And and while the numbers that we've been throwing out there seem large. And it's like, oh my gosh. What's the what's going on in the city by the end of the month? Those numbers may not be bad. They still are too hot there too high. They are into guy. You know, we had a texture Texan the same thing as we're talking about this when they were happy to tell margin. Look, I'm happy when the police brings out these these information that the shootings are down shootings are down. But we also have one of the coldest winters with all those snacks cold weather for us, especially in January February could've contributed to it. Anyways. We're gonna change gears here mersal break I want to do that today. I learned game Roger kazaa today. I learned a lot about Passover. I'll tell you that much all the whole story. What about the four questions? I'm telling ya. You don't know from it. Roger after listening to you for a while ago more than four questions, but we'll do that after the break and seven twenty. To wrap it up in the right field going. The pre-game thirty five and.
