WWE names Nick Khan as new President & Chief Revenue Officer
"Did you see the news of Nick Khan and I don't know how many people in our audience know that name Nick Con Heading from CAA to the wwe all of a sudden a weird. Just a weird thing to have happen is the pandemic is going to shift a whole bunch of things. I'm guessing next to nobody knows who nick is wrestling fans will now get y'all have an idea of WHO, Nikon. He's one of the most powerful sports agents at. The most powerful sports agencies CIA who represented many big clients, many ESPN, and now he's left for what he thinks to be greener pastures. You can make the argument as some in our business do that this guy runs espn that basically all the people that have been hired here and got contracts is because this guy makes money for clients. Now I left ca a while ago because it was totally soulless like it was just this shiny thing. I. Really had an experience with my agent that was like Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire, where he's he looked around, he was like. And I'm like, yeah, I don't want to be there either and because it nick cons trying to replace this radio show ESPN for the better part of years like he said, we were gonNA fail along and he's been trying to replace us with his clients the entire time and he hasn't been able to do it. But this move to the wwe out of nowhere when you're representing the, you know the power agency not just in sports to God's but. Ca like they do all the shining things when I was there, it's like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt and Surreal Shiny Hollywood thing and I hated it i. thought it was I. Thought was awful. Oh, I think from a business standpoint there the agency that runs sports and they're certainly the agency that controls the runs Hollywood There's no question ought to go from there to Vince McMahon to Vince McMahon to be president and financial officer of WWe of all places. Like that, that right there is oil that deserves each

"Com. Let's talk about a couple other guys here David, Otunga Guy who I think a lot of people assumed. Well, he's going to blow it out in a major way and he's still a part of wwe but. More of a non wrestling capacity these days. What can you tell us about? David Tonga in his in ring stuff and the in a big role here main eventing summer slam and. Now maybe used as more of a panelist and color commentator and things like that. But. He's been a part of the company for Gosh twelve years now. Still, still only announced him occasionally think so yeah, I think he's the occasional panelist. Well, I think that. Nobody had had a better look then. Otunga. He was part of that next this group but. You know. Once they singled him out and tried to make him a single or put him in a tag matches. And then they left him all for long periods of time for whatever reason that was before they decided. Okay I think you know they attraction was his look. Fact that he had been the law school. The biggest of them, all was whose wife was. Megastar. And I and I believe you know. Maybe off and I'll think. So one of the biggest you know wishlist things are the one of the things that company was hoping for was. That at some point, his wife was gonNA sing the national. Anthem, Wrestlemania. Would have been another good reason to keep David around and take care of him and keep paying them. You know seems like a natural fit well. You know she has A. Record label that might not want to associate her with wrassling who knows these are just speculation on my part, but I feel like. That's probably what the wishlist was and that was never going to happen, but they kept him around we kept him around. But in the process he was getting in the ring. He wasn't wrestling. It was getting better. Dear on all of these periods of time where you see guys go away Conrad at whatever point in their career it is. But they are not on TV, but they're still with the company. Those guys are. Not Getting Reps. They're not going down to the school on their own and wrestling three or four times a week. They're basically just sitting home and I. Don't know that the company would would say that's the right thing to do or we don't want you to go down there and get hurt. You know. So if we do need you out of the I, don't know how that rhetoric goes by. But if you're not wrestling every day, it's only thing you can do to stay in ring shape is wrestle. You can pound us down mastered all day long won't matter you can lift weights all all day long it won't matter the only way to stay in ring shape is you gotta get in there and Russell, and you gotta do it frequently you gotta get those Reps. Timing and breathing and keeping your body. You know us to take in that pounding all. That's all things that only reps will give you. So you know those guys disappear. They're just sitting home in I think Dave was one of them. Last but certainly, not least Wade Barrett, the leader of annex t I. Think a lot of people assumed this guy was going to be one of the next big things we know that you know he had a couple of different incarnations. They try to miss king bear they tried to bad news Barrett, and then ultimately he decides that think of maybe had enough. his contract is scheduled to end in June of two, thousand sixteen. A wwe agrees to on early release from his contract. So he gets out I think in like. August of two thousand fifteen. And he's done I mean he did a little bit of stuff. With the NWEA and some stuff overseas. But it looks like he's trying his hand away from wrestling. Do you think? You know the WWe thing sorta soured him on wrestling for good or is this something which is hard to get out of your blood and he'll be back. It's just a matter of if and win and the right circumstance. Well you know he was good. He had everything he had he spoke well, look good good size all those things. And he's a good worker and. There was really no negatives. To wait But I'm sure you know what you gotta remember Conrad We went through a period of. Two thousand one. To two thousand. Nineteen. To where there was really only one company that you could go to in the US. And make. A really really good living. Now know you had the other companies around you had new Japan yet impact. Yet ring of honor know you had a few scattered companies around but. Basically, there was only one place to work and make a consisted. Living where you can plan your future three years out. No, what you're going to. Sign a long term deal which goes a long way with people when they're trying to plan their lives. and. There was only the one company and if you soured on the business. And you left wwe. You just about had to you know visit the real world and see what was available across those other companies were. In were not running. Two hundred and fifty days. And you know constant television. And pay per views all those things that ww was able to do. There were only they were the only game in town. Really. So I think once you left wwe like way did he started researching some acting and some other things another way to to have life after a you know wrestling and? I don't know exactly what he did but I saw that he did come back with Nwea was doing some commentary from different stuff but. Cata remember there were not a lot of. Deer on that eighteen. Year Span. Let's. Let's talk about the massive self here. One of the big spots in the show is when Brad Hart Tags and he's GonNa. Be Wrestling Heath slater. He's GonNa throw some punches and do a reverse atomic drop and go for the sharp shooter and meltzer would no heart can't do a match because can't bomb or take any shots but his movement an offense look good and it was actually incredible considering his fifty three has an artificial knee and the suffered a serious stroke. Bearing through in a chair and heart uses the chair on skip. Skip Sheffield easy for me to say who we know is right back. In twelve minutes and ten seconds meltzer would say the crowd was genuinely mad when Hart was eliminated and he was the only guy in the match, you could really say that about. Alternately. We know the story though Santa's going to put the STF on Barrett in the middle the ring, and he's GonNa tap after thirty five minutes and nineteen seconds three and a half stars while the action lot of talent The fans are really behind annual. Brian in a big way here. This is probably one of those nights that SORTA helped make. Daniel. Bryan who he's going to become. What did you think of this one? Yeah, I thought you know what you walk away with was. It was the right thing to bring Daniel Bryan back..
Shane McMahon introduces ‘RAW Underground’ in WWE that has scripted MMA fights in wrestling
"WWE under. Underground where underground now, where in the storage closet coming to you live with Shaneco Mac he's sweaty but that doesn't stop him another to do with it. He'd be sweating if they were in a meat locker, don't matter no ropes. No rules. Man. I have never. Liked Shane McMahon like From twenty five years ago up to and including today. Just. CanNot stand him. You never met a happy guy when he came back. And I was like, what is an I remember like people being like Oh my God. It's going to be Shane and undertaker mania on I'm like what is wrong with you? Why would you WANNA see that. Shane is just he's GonNa jump off something High Ching Ching Ling God, the entrance, the heat he would get with the fuck in the mean street posse and stuff. But fuck man now like when they were hyping like Shane, McMahon's back I was like. Oh. Boy. This is the break glass in case of emergency I. Guess. Underground. Yeah and the you know I saw that the under thirty or whatever was up. So there was some curiosity whether that holds over I. Don't know that you've also got the The the faction with MVP, which has what are they called Har Business or murder business or something. To. US News whatever I mean at least that would be something I I just whatever it was like that was the first one on the that was just the first name on the list. Go with that.

"Me We talked about it at top of the show here Next gets a ton of heat coming out. Meltzer says given that it looks like this show did far better than last year based on one man the idea of allowing heels to get and keep he may not be the worst idea. This year MS came out to be the seventh GOB Cena told him that they wouldn't wait for him to make up his mind until the day of and they had already secured a partner and it was Daniel Bryan. And Brian, opens the match with hard kicks during young goes for a guillotine and gets a tap and just forty five seconds. Lots of talent here on both sides. Let's recap who all's in, and of course, our team leader is John Cena. He's got Daniel Bryan is the mystery Guy Chris Jericho edge are truth John, Morrison, and Brad Hart of all people nexus is led by Wade Barrett. They've got David Otunga he slater skip Sheffield Darren Young Michael Tarver and Justin Gabriel and is an elimination match. Talks to me about Michael Tarver he's a name that we haven't heard a ton about for whatever reason. Maybe this whole ww venture didn't go exactly as they had originally hoped still a young guy I think he's only like forty three years old. What can you tell us about Michael Tarver Well I I didn't know. Michael. That well, and had a good look with. You know he had the mask on You know good physique and all that stuff. He did a boxer gave me. Cata. Good. Punch Don't know Michael that well, I wasn't around him very much. I just know that he was handpicked to be in that group and there was probably a reason for that. Yeah. Yeah. Unfortunately less than a year from this after being in the main event here at Summer Slam he's gone. I think he leaves in June of two thousand eleven this stuff with the NWEA new Japan and. Even sure what he's really doing in wrestling these days, but it feels weird that. You're in the main event your later not so much and other guy that we don't hear a tone about here Justin Gabriel who knows wrestling PJ black now he too has a similar story up ultimately having a decent little run with the WWE and. Finds his way out a handful years later. Does stop off with TNA and I. Think he's done some stuff with ring of honor in the Nwea and underground he's kept active. But mostly outside of wwe in recent years. Why don't you think PJ blacker dusting Gabriel here was was a lifer with. WWe. I don't know you know once those guys once they started breaking the crew up. Each time they got smaller and and guys were going different ways that. You know the whole nexus thing just kind of disintegrated and. It left a lot of guys on the sideline of guys on the sidelines and I know just recently just a couple of weeks ago a few weeks ago I saw. Watching impact and Not Impact I was watching Rayon excuse me and PJ black was on there and it looked to be a semi reset match probably. Within the last six eight months, he had a match with the. With another guy on there and they tore the joint out. Can still perform that's for sure. Don't know what he's been doing i. know that he had a robot accident doing. One of those things he does like. I don't know if he'll skydiving or something else but he got injured real bad while back and he had to recover from that took a took quite a while but he's back up there seemed to be a semi. Like I said maybe six or eight months ago. So on that show, he had a great match. Yeah. But it's just curious to me that. I mean, this is a guy who's with the company I. Mean I think he started in developmental in like a wait maybe. And he's with you guys until like January Twenty fifteen and ride around royal rumble 2015 either asked for his release granted it whatever. But I. It's always been fascinating to me that it really feels like there's almost two cons, wrestlers, guys who? You know work their whole career to get to wwe and and try to get there and stay there, and even when they leave, they're trying to get back. Then you got other guys who are like, I, tried it and this is to political corporate to whatever it's just not a good fit for me. And it's not often that you see make decision like that. But clearly he did and seems to be doing just fine. Is that fair to say that maybe there's just because we even talked about recently on on ask Orange episode. About. Bullet. Bob Armstrong and maybe what his national appeal could have been had. He chose something different, but he had such a good deal for himself in Pensacola that it's quality life was just through the roof while trying to do anything different. Do you think there's just some guys who? Maybe, W W was their dream and then they get there and realize well, it went to hoped it was I'm going to go back and do what I was doing before. You got understand. When you take these young guys and you either bring them up from Andy's. And you put them in the system and X. T. or are they go in all exclusively to enact or whatever the case was? And then you bring them up to the main roster. You know they get their proverbial fit finlay three weeks. If if they're brought up to be used driveway. If those guys don't blow the roof off the world in three weeks a lot of times they just. Forgot about that. WAS IT You didn't pass the test and. Especially when guys are put in a position to get a push, they're out there on TV they're doing well, and for whatever reason somebody sours on them and they just cut their water off out of nowhere and you see it all the time. Now, some people you know can accept that goes they're getting paid and they get their water cut off and they are relegated to the sidelines and their TV every week week after week after week, but they don't get used. And for whatever reason, guys can go on for months and months without ever being on television and you go back and say What did they do? Wrong and nobody can ever put their finger on anything they did wrong other than. The mood changes for there were concerned suddenly one day somebody walked in and said the too short..
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson buys XFL for 15 million dollars
"The XFL, trying to go again, a group including actor former WWe star Dwayne Johnson. The. Rock has agreed to purchase the xfl approximately fifteen million dollars. The XFL declared chapter eleven, bankruptcy April thirteenth, and so who knows maybe the rock make it work? In case you want the numbers, the League average one point nine, million TV viewers per game in two, thousand, twenty, and generate nearly twenty million gross revenues in. In Two thousand twenty, I know you watch more than I did Mike and you thought it was it was good out of the gate at least. What do you think XFL? Can it work again I? Think it can I mean look I think there's going to be more bigger player pool than ever before you know and and we should have some kind of according to Dr I, call him. You know from the Godfather according to Falconry. Dr, Don. According to Don Uchi, we should have some therapeutic or some cure by then. So we can have people in the stands and we can do all that you know I think it's a hell of a deal for him. Now redbird capital partners, they they have an option for seven and a half million of the fifteen. So I think this is all going through and just reading a lot of stuff online today I. Mean, this is a hell of a deal to pay fifteen million dollars to basically get all the all the hardware. Think about the equipment that they're going to get for fifteen million, the video machines, the uniforms, the all this stuff that you could basically would have cost you just it's worth. Sixty, one, million dollars. You get fifteen, it's pretty good deal. Yeah. Johnson as investors include his business partner Danny Garcia Garcia will have an executive position the league and said that both she and Johnson, a hands on approach run the league join John. This is played the you he played in the NFL and he certainly knows. Out of market himself. So curious to see if that can work for the

"If you really think about it. I mean it's just you've got sure you've got big star showing up. And in the match and exciting, and you're putting ray behind the eight ball but. You know a lot of times just for the sake of the pop, you lose the story. And this could have been one of those situations. You know it's just. It's as a fan. Would you rather have a little bit of discombobulated story? But get to see all the stars. Or have the story intact and not say that's the big question I. Guess you're you're paying pay for you. Precious. You know to your point, you want to see all the stars and see 'em comment popping up at. Different Times that you don't expect. Well also too. I mean I think it. I don't think it is a convoluted story I take issue with the way Meltzer Sorta wrote here that all the swerved didn't make any sense. No, it did make sense like Kane beat up his brother and made it look like somebody else did it and when he thought, Hey, I'm going to get away with it and he starts smiling after race wears take your he didn't do it. He realizes she does my brother who did it I mean I don't know I thought. It was a good story and sort of classic old school wrestling and methodist disagreed guess. Well I guess you just wait till it. All played out you got the explanation. Well, we're going to get an explanation with his next match or about to see here is the longest mansion summer slam history because thirty five minutes and fifteen seconds. That is indeed a summer slam record. The previous record was ninety four with retinoid inside a steel cage with a world title that went thirty two minutes and twenty two seconds. As a reminder nexus has been running roughshod since June seventh on raw when they attacked Cena punk and the entire ringside crew the following week the been general manager Bret Hart refused to give them contracts and as a result they attacked him. Which forced Vince McMahon to appoint a new anonymous GM, who then signed all the members of the next to the show? What did you think about the anonymous GM angle? Okay. It's terrible. Is it not? Bad. Yeah it was bad. You can't have just some some Phantom. God. That's got all the authority. That's. This book at all the match it just it. It takes that stretch of believability and he goes way way way too far. And I think it it just did it was just. It was cute for a week or two, but it still didn't make sense unless you're going to have a reveal and you never had to reveal you know it's just played late and that was the. That was the GM that nobody knew who was making career decisions on people's lives. Next, this is gonNA continue to attack various wrestlers and crew costing Cena costing the WB championship. I mean, they're just running roughshod fatal four way money in the bank. And then in July Cena finally confronts him. They offer him a place in their stable which he refuses and then reveals that he's assembled his own crew that he's GonNa call team wwe and includes edge Chris Jericho John Morrison are truth a great Collie and unbelievably Brad Hart. On July twenty six, the raw anonymous GM changes the match to an elimination match. And then there's dissension in the ENCINAS team in the following weeks edge and Jericho. They have their own thing going on. It's this is a an interesting concept, but it does feel like. I mean, is this a little hot shot at he'd they go to this too soon? D think or did. Nexus lose too soon. What's your takeaway from the whole nexus thing and maybe what could have been? They should have went on those guys should have been shoved for another. Year and a half before you ever put a change in their armor. You know. You're talking about. Earlier. You know vents was talking about I mean, you said that the call was we're gonNA turn this thing around to the stockholders. Right? We're going to integrate our new talent whether all talent. Yeah right and we're going to get business turned around. Well the one thing that it takes forever to accomplish Anna's not that easy these days and it wasn't that easy back. Then the hardest thing to do is get get legitimate heat. On talent and you have these. Guys. who were. Everything. That Vance wanted. They were young. There were athletic. You know they had a there were all different. But there were. It was an influx of young guys and and some of them very good performers, lot of good performers for that time. And when you've got seven a group, they should have dominated everything and everybody own bow shows. And it would just be create you know get your booking creative enough to make that happen because those guys you could have put so much heat on. They shouldn't have got beat for another year and a half because there was just the story was in place. There were a team of seven. You jump on one of them or two of them. You jump on seven of them and it will work if you just do it. The proper. Context. So I don't think they should any of them should have gotten beat that night, any of them should have got left laying. In all. Its would have been very easy to write the story that. Everybody was saying jealous on the baby fae side of of Saint Are you assumed or that was the perception of he couldn't seven hard time getting partners because. You know everybody wanted to seem out of the way. So they can move up the ladder. There were so many stories you could have written, which would have made sense but in the process than access were the benefactors because the fact that. All the other guys couldn't get together in the company to form a tame strong enough to Beta and let those guys just continue to have their way. And it would have worked in order to draw in money but the minute you start beating them leave in two or three of them laying. You know when it's just one guy. Just as makes sense, you know you have to make sense where the numbers are involved..
The World Has Shifted to Remote. Here's How to Make Your Marketing Work
"I'm Eric Su. And I'm Neil, Patel, and today we are going to talk about how the world has shifted to remote, and how you can actually make your marketing work in a remote world, so with Corona virus, and right now we're actually in the second wave of things were in many states and I think we're still the first wave in the US. Technically second going down. It's going back up. Because nobody really. We didn't really get past the first we sucked so bad got. I shouldn't be saying that on air, but we have no idea what we're doing. Is just goes right back up so I still think one of the first we'll see and with many other countries right? There were slowing down like. And parts of Europe, and now they're picking back up. But when you look the coronavirus and everything that's happened, it's caused a lot of us to go remote. And we have no choice. I make sense. It's better to be safe than sorry, but less people are working in offices. What's funny as they're learning how to work efficiently at home as well, the real question now is though how do you manage your marketing team in your marketing efforts working remote, and making sure that you're generating a positive roi in things are getting done enough vicious manner, and that's what we wanted to cover today. So the first thing I'll say round. This is that the adjustment period was really difficult for the people on the separate teams that have really they've never worked. Oh my God what's going to happen? Do we need these remote guides? You know what we do and then when you realize after the initial shock, is that not a lot changes? And then you realize also that for the most part a lot of people that used to work all the time. They realize they can just work more efficiently. Need to work as many hours right so I. WanNa give a couple practical things, and then we can kind of bounce back and forth on this, but one thing we do on the. The educational product that we've run is to maintain efficiency. We actually do a daily stand up for about fifteen minutes on its live because we're spending dollars on it, so we WANNA make sure that there's a sense of urgency and we're communicating quickly, and if there's an issue, we nip it in the bud, so it's every Tuesday through Friday, so it's technically it's not daily, but we go for about ten to fifteen minutes or so some has a Michael for thirty minutes, and then we'll solve issues. Kinda right than in there, and then the other thing is for the quick flow team. The software team the way we do our daily. Stand up. It's just what we do yesterday. What do. Do we do today. Here's our feeling any blockers that we have in this just strictly text based right, so it's acing. Chris the differences. The other one is synchronous so depending on the state of the projects. HOW HIGH STAKES THEY ARE! You Might WanNa say okay, once increase or ones AC Griss, but what we found is that the stand ups work, and then I'll save for two single rain team. We don't do daily. Stand up anymore. It's a weekly stand up because we have a weekly huddle where we go over numbers, and then Wednesday is a weekly standards like how you're feeling what you do. Volleyball what he played for the weekend and then Friday. We have a belt meaning which. which is more of a cultural thing where I asked Neal was the best party or week professionally, personally who you nominate for the WWe belt, so that type of stuff so what I'm getting at really here is you have to make sure that have you communicate that you are communicating at? It's probably more frequent because you're not around the office anymore to tap someone on the shoulders anymore. So on our end we do a few different things, so the first thing we end up doing. Is We take our tasks? Like what are people doing on a regular basis and you WanNa? Make sure they're broken down into weekly tasks, and then from weekly you WanNa break them down into daily. People need to create their own checklist. Keep themselves held accountable, and it makes it much easier for them to know all right today I need to accomplish all of these things to try to hit my goals, so that allows them to stay on track with what they need to do on a regular basis with typically their daily job duties. Now in general, whether you're working from home or the office or whether there's coronavirus kicking strong, or it's not as a business as a marketing department. You WanNa constantly grow no matter what the economic situation is. One thing that we like doing is on top of years your daily tasks. We put people in different groups. And it changes week over week, and it's just random is and what we'll do is every Monday will put people in groups of threes. Every Monday people submit their ideas on different ways that they they can help grow our traffic or conversion scorer sales in other words any way to grow the business by Tuesday each team picks their idea by Wednesday in needs to be launched by Friday. We go over the results of the tests. Sometimes you don't get enough data and you'll know about the results in another week. Week or two, and that's fine, but you want him so small. You know these tests that you can end up doing on a regular basis, and you can do really frequently if they're too complex. That means test is too big, and you need a break down. We have this whole concept of paper cuts in business. There's not one thing that's GonNa. End Up, really causing your business to grow in skyrocket, but if you do a lot of little things, right correctly over time what you'll find is, it'll blow up.

Nintendo Direct Mini: What We Learned from the Partner Showcase
"Nintendo surprised everyone late last night by announcing that it would be airing a Nintendo direct mini partner showcase early this morning. The surprise announcement last night read on July twentieth. We'll debut the first Nintendo direct mini partner showcase a series focused on titles from our development and publishing partners will share a few updates on a small group of previously announced Hashtag. Nintendo switch games? The quick window between the announcement of the thing and airing the thing. And specifically pointing out that it would only cover previously announced games lowered my expectations to the floor, but there were at least a few surprises. Here's what they shared. I the direct started with a cove in nineteen disclaimer, saying basically that the future is uncertain, and everything could change including release dates, but then they made their first announcement with was planned DLC for a game whose full title is cadence of high rule crypt of the neck, dancer, featuring the legend of Zelda. The game released last year, but it will get three new DLC packs, which will release through October. The first pack adds new characters to the game. IMPA shadow link and Shadow Zelda and then characters named Aria and Frederick who I believe our original characters. I fancy myself a bit of his elda. Didn't immediately recognize those characters D second pack will add thirty nine new songs to the game. The third pack, which seems the most substantial Ed's a whole new story with new songs where you can play as skulk the tags from yours mask who can change masks to adopt new abilities? The character pack is available today in the other packs will be available later with all the pacts eventually coming out by October, and then the game will also receive a physical release with all the DLC bundled in one box on October twenty third. I played and beat cadence of Jairo Crypto the neck road answer featuring diligent of Zelda, but ultimately liked the soundtrack a lot more than I liked the actual game. I would go so far as to say I love the soundtrack, so I am excited to hear all the new songs. I don't know that I am really eager to actually play the game more, but I am also such as Zelda soccer that I probably will. The next two announcements weren't really announcements so much. The Game Rogue Company was shown which looks like a pretty. Pretty unspectacular third person online shooter with cyberpunk sort of theme. It didn't look bad by any means that it just didn't do much to stand out. Same goes for the next game. WWE TO CAPE battlegrounds. There was some new gameplay and we saw some wrestlers who were likely well compensated to show how excited they were about the game. They were playing, but there wasn't much. That had not already been shared the mini, direct and strong, though with two big atlas announcements. Shimagami ten say one, which was basically Shimagami Tennessee, three and Japan. Is Getting remastered for release on switch next year. I would love some help here in the form of a correction because I find the Shin Montgomery ten say series to be pretty confusing as it has all devolved into different spinoffs like persona, which itself has all kinds of spin offs. I was always under the impression that knocked turn was spinoff as well, but I guess it is part of the mainline series, and this rerelease will have the number three in the title, even though it did not have a three in its North American title when it originally released in two thousand four. In any case you know where it belongs in the Shin, Mugabe cannon really isn't. All that portent the important thing is that it is generally considered to be one of the best, if not the Best Shimagami, ten say game that isn't called Persona and it's actually the entry that I play the most. It has some MON elements to it with demon collecting, and when it originally released, it featured Dante from devil may cry. Suggest character which is a cool idea. I'm curious if the rerelease will keep that Dante Cameo. It also just has a great art style to it and I'm happy to see it getting a visual overhaul for the switch release. It is coming spring twenty twenty one after that a trailer was shown for Shimagami ten. Say Five a game we have known about since two thousand seventeen, but this was the first in some time. The trailer didn't reveal much. A teenager looks like they're given some kind of demonic choice and I don't know that they make the right one. The game is coming in twenty twenty one, but the trailer didn't anymore specifics than that. I had low expectations going into this thing and they were mostly met, but I was surprised by the nocturnal announcement. That was very cool. The Internet seems generally annoyed that Nintendo has not made any big summer announcements and that with paper Mario Animal Crossing having been released. It really doesn't seem like they have any big games for the rest of the year. which is true, but the weird thing is. Is I. Don't know that it really matters to Nintendo. Twenty twenty can kind of just be a low key year for them. Because animal crossing was just that big of a hit. It feels like they are in no rush to push anything out. Because everyone is just going to keep buying animal crossing anyway, they can barely keep up with demand for the switch consoles as it is. Now with all that being said though I think Nintendo kind sees the cancellation of e three as a blessing in terms of how it likes to announce Games paper Mario was announced and released within a few months. And I think that's how Nintendo would always prefer to do it. Keep the window between announcement and release small, but e three kind of forces them to make these big proclamation announcements all piled up on top of each other and share things many months before the popular November release window with E. Three out of the way though I think Nintendo is taking advantage and will make individual announcements for games. Just shortly before they actually release. There is that rumored Super Mario collection that will gather a bunch of three D Mario Games maybe nintendo will detail it in a dedicated direct, and then release it within a month, or so closer to November, and maybe in the unlikely scenario that breath of the wild to is coming this year. They will do the same thing. have a focused dedicated direct for the game, and then it will come out shortly after or maybe as I alluded to earlier, Nintendo will just look at animal crossings absurd sales. Do a round of socially distant high fives, and just push everything in originally had planned for twenty twenty into twenty twenty one.
"wwe" Discussed on Busted Open
"The wwe is the captain that steers ship you know W is making a lot of traction impact. Wrestling is making a lot of traction, but I think you would agree bully that the wwe when it comes to the world of pro wrestling and sports, entertainment is still the top is still the king. When I see a show like the one I saw last night, I understand where that nation member is coming from where it's like all right I. Mean at some point you gotta say. Enough's enough and I'm kinda worried. At the fact, that like is. The interest is going to Wayne to the to the point where you know pro wrestling loses fans, pooley. We're seeing monumentally lower ratings. We saw raw hit a low mark in its history this past Monday, smackdown. was down from the week before which was a down week for smackdown. It's. Blame the crowds, and you can blame the lack of crowds, and then the lack of feel I honestly bully enough with that. It's been almost five months that we've had wrestling without crowds. At some point you got to point the finger at the product itself and the wwe main roster product is been a problem for quite some time now, even dating back way before the start of this pandemic and bully. This is where they could take advantage of `have. At some point, there was no sports. Sports are starting up again by the way, so these ratings are not going to go up. They're going to go down. Because sports are starting up again. WWe Had the opportunity to take advantage of hey. People stuck at home with nylon to watch. Let's put on one of our best products, so people get our attention and people are talking about us. To wwe main roster I'm not GonNa Talk About Annex. T and I'm certainly not talking about other wrestling organizations. I'm just talking about raw and smackdown. They have not taken advantage of these last five months bully as a matter of fact, they've regressed creatively in a lot of ways and I think the prime example is what we saw last night. Bully, you always preach about realism. You always preach about connecting the dots you always. Preach about logic. You always appreciate about cohesive this from week to week. There was none of that in that show last night. That was you come out at show. It's like why am I. Why do I watch? Nothing logical happened on that show for the most part nothing logical with seth. Rollins and ray mysterious nothing logical with Bailey and Sasha nothing logical. Lebron's Stroman and Bray why nothing lodging I I can show you the logic and all of them. Okay I mean it just not the logic that you're looking for and a lot of the logic that wrestling fans are not looking for. Take any match and I'll make a comparison or I'll give you some logic or at least the logic. The wwe was thinking last night. All right, but is it a stretch? Do you have to re obviously?.
A Developer's Summer, with Underscore David Smith
"Hello everyone this is David sparks joined by my fellow co-hosts Mr. Stephen Hackett I Stephen Hey David. How are you good I feel like this week is kind of putting the capper on our W. WDC coverage. Finished up last week, we were able to talk about quite a bit during the during ww see, and then we talked about our Betas last week this week. We thought we bring in somebody who has a unique and interesting perspective on it. Welcome back to the show David Smith. You it's A. It's a pleasure to be here I mean I was? It's an honor to be on power users so I'm glad to be able to kind of come in gas lend a developer perspective to all the announcements that we just had. Thinking that you'd be the perfect guest for it by pay, we just had him on and then I looked twenty seventeen, so. I don't know what happened there in my head, but The you know David you were telling me before the show started. How many wwe cs have you participated in a believe? This is number twelve for me and my first one is in two thousand and nine, and I've been essentially attended in some form ever ever since so it's been like this regular fixture in my family that as far as like in which. That's longer than my children have. Our old, so like from their perspective, daddy always disappears for a week in June like that's just a part of a part of life that I'm sure they expect happens to every father in the world. They just June is when they go to California, but that's. It was a very unusual year to just actually just stay at home and be here, but sort of not here. kind of station in the basement to a just a after shift myself to California time, and then also just there's so much to do. But generally speaking, it was definitely a different year than all the others that I've had the privilege of experiencing. As, someone who's been W. DC with you? I think we one year we stay together and the relay Commun-. The but I feel like you are somebody that really always. My observation takes advantage of WBZ. You're always hustling to get to meetings and and get the content and I feel like you are in my mind for lack of a better term, a lunch pail developer just show up and you get the work done, and I've always appreciate that about you. So, let's talk, you know. You watched it from home this year I guess That was that. It was different I. Mean on the one hand. It was kind of Nice to be able to like my wife set next to me on the Sofa and we questioned on our TV, and it was. It was kind of Nice to share that with her. Because while we sometimes, we'll do that for things like phone announcements, or you know other apple events throughout the year when I'm not in California You know she's heard me talk about WDC many times and WC announcements are the ones that I like kind of lose my mind and be super excited, and like it's in a way that is unusual that it's not. As to you know with an iphone announcement because a cool new camera that's kind of clear and accessible, but like I'm losing my mind over some minor thing that they just mentioned and she has no idea and it was kind of a fun thing. I think for us to be to share that But it was definitely a bit odd to. Then just like just like. I watched the Hino, and then I go and sit at my at my regular, my regular office and I can download all the Betas, and like get started right away rather than like frantically trying to eat like an awful box lunch in between the keynote in the state of the Union and then like sometime later somehow try and get the. Betas installed over Chino potentially and not so reliable Wi fi, and so like it was definitely a very different Monday for WGC than I'm used to though I kind of liked it like it was kind of Nice I felt like I was super productive like in a very intense way which? Definitely took the weekend to recover from, but it was. It was different, but in a good way I, think is the best summary for how serve the General Rafeal if WGC was for me. The general take wagon talking to developer friends. It's like it was a more more is week easier to get information easier to manage Betas and find out what exactly what's going on. You're not kind of in the thick of it. But it was less useful of direct access to apple engineers. Maybe I'd say from my experience like they had labs this year. Which is alive that typically WGC they have these big sessions where apple engineers are available to attendees who go into, ask your questions, which is the one time of year typically where you're able to interact with an apple engineer, because typically they're locked. Locked away in Cupertino and can talk about anything related to what they're working on, but this one week they get let out in are allowed to do that. And I was very curious to see what they did for. The labs experience this year and worked well like I think I attended five or six lives, and they were just kind of like voice. Conference calls I could share I could share my screen to to the call if I had some code I needed to show them or something. I wanted them to kind of look at and by and large. That process was actually very efficient, and from the kind of likes to the way they structured. It is I mean they were available to anyone who had a pay developer account so I. Don't Know How many people that is in the world, but it is almost certainly. Probably millions if not. Like tens of millions and it was just kind of you signed up. You submitted a question, and they had of reviewed them the day before and assigned to a lab based on as like, do you? Did you actually see Mike? You had a reason a question. That's useful and. Effective to answer, and it was to the asking esque, the right lab, or the right place and feuded, both those things like I was able to get my labs, and got my questions answered, and so that was actually kind of cool. I think only part. I missed was really like. You're talking about the sexting at the the relay commune. Having that kind of that sense of community and being around other people. Like the idea. Of being on site in San Jose was something that I certainly missed this year, and that's a tricky thing to quantify 'cause i. think in most other ways. The Co like the conference was better for being virtual like the session videos were better, and they were more accessible in the sense that they are available immediately to everybody they all have full transcripts that are searchable and so are accessible, just both from an ex. A accessibility perspective of perse people for people for whom listening to video is difficult. They have the transcript immediately available, and they can do. Watch close captioning as Equally accessible to everybody irrespective, if you have the means and the resources and the ability to go to saint, say or not you just if you have an Internet connection, you have exactly the same connection, and then like all the content was super polished
Hey email cleared by App Store and is now open to all
"Signed up for hey. Dot Com. And that was. It was interesting that that. rancourous discussion between apple and hey was resolved just before. WWE DC began. hey, kind of conceded. Basically, apple said look. May just do something so that the that has functionality when you install it, and we'll overlook the rest, and so hey, let's do a set up a dummy email account for two weeks with a randomly generated address. Just so the APP does something but it's certainly raised a lot of concern about the APP store about Apple's thirty percent, the developers of hey, with a very well known base camp. didn't want apple to get a third of its ninety nine dollar year subscription fees, so they didn't put in that purchases in the APP they said well wait. It's just a reader. why are you? Why are you charging? You know why are you? Why are you preventing? And this is another thing? Apple started to which I'm not sure I like very much, which is not all their approves the APP, but they won't approve any bug fixes. Until hey fixes the problem. And I think that's kind of a
"Ww DC and data. Season is upon us every year. I, I, him in Haw, and I always install all the Betas usually. We don't cover them a lot. Until the we're closer to release, but because of this year that changes are so significant, and people are just so interested in the stuff that Steven and I, both kind of made a point to go a little crazy with Beta installs and we've been using them now for a weekend. I thought it'd be fun to report how these features are working and. And given. This is Betas with some of this stuff could change, but you know. Let's kind of dive in deep on it I will say you've gone a little deeper than I have so the pool right I'm swimming in the pool. You did a cannonball from the top of your house into the deep end. Oh, I did I. Did I I wrote a post in the payers forum saying Hey Steven I've gone a little crazy with the bait. If you've got questions, let us know and a team. Oh, wrote crazy like install watch os Beta. And one of us did I'll give you one guess. Not, me. Like I had actually Rosemary. went in that pool I I said well. Did you watch blow up anything? She says well when I wash my hands at once crash, but otherwise it's been fine, and like you know it and also I feel kind of cavalier this year because I'm home, not traveling. if if my phone gets to messed up I can always unwind. The Beta I'm. Home doesn't matter that much so I. I didn't feel that bad about it, so so let's just Let's list the devices right What have you got? The BETAS installed on, so I've got the Beta on a external SSD that. I'm booting my macbook pro from I, need my fro some later this year, so I'm not willing to put the bait on at directly yet. And running it on my I've had many other. My leverage IPAD PRO is probably going to succumb to it. By the time this episode comes out out of my phone, and the definitely not my Mac pro The this machine is where I make my living, and it will stay on Catalina for some time, but yes. I'm playing with it kind of getting my. Getting in the pool. I spent more time with it on the Max I've got thoughts around that, but. I want to get back. Somebody said a second ago. The interest in Beta cycle is way higher than it normally feels like. And maybe that's because a lot of people aren't home. Life's a little bit slower now. It's because like big Sur in particular is a huge change having we just on your iphone. Who Change like there's a lot of things that are really attractive about these Betas. Wherein some years it's like yeah, it's better, but you know. You can live without it for three more months. Some of the stuff people want to really experience now. Yeah, agreed. And and there is kind of some themes to these Betas as we go through it. In the show today I started with the Beta on my is because I have two IPAD pros because I'm that guy so I started with a on the big IPAD pro and it was running fine, and then it quickly cascaded over a couple of days. And I put it on the laptop, so I had big Sur on the laptop in it on the IPAD. Then suddenly I had it on the second IPAD I had on my own. I also put it on my Mac pro because we have a the way. The recording situation is right now in the sparks headquarters. Has You know there's there's four people living in fifteen hundred square feet and so? My studio isn't really where I'm recording shows where my I MAC PRO is. It's where I do all the edits and all that stuff, but I'm not doing the recording there My old studio has been turned into my daughter's. Daughter's bedroom, but we have an extra in there, and that is the kind of recording machine I'm sitting at it right now, so my fancy Mike and Everything so that one is not upgraded or or running Betas, but but but the all the others should Max. The to Max I own are and then a few days ago I. Put on the watch, too. Because I as I told Rosemary and the automakers. If it breaks, it's her fault. But it's you know so, I, I've been reading on everything. This one thing that you may have heard in the news is these are pretty stable Betas I. think partly because wwe came later. This is more like Beta or Beta three in normal year. That being said do as we say, we do. Don't don't know these. If you need to get your work done Yada Yada Yada Yeah. I, mean they're still developer Betas. At this point, you have to have a developer account. The Public Beta will be in July. That's when they're more widely accessible and usually in the past. At least it's been to developer bills for everyone public Betas so. Developer Beta two or three be public Beta one and there'll be a couple of developer builds and then. A couple more puppets, this sort of tiktok approach, and just because this Betas good doesn't mean the next one will be in fact very often. They get worse before they get better. So yeah, do what we say like. Let us take the pain and you know if you have a spare me, shake my head many if it bursts into flames, that'd be sad, but it's not the end of the world. Then yeah, I think it's fine to play with on that, but definitely out of production machine now something you need for work because you can this situation where the you know, it's always like the one happy really need the one workflow you really depend on. That's the one that's broken for months. That'll get you.

Inside the Downfall of the XFL
"XFL was supposed to be the league that can finally make spring football work with financial backing from WWe's Vince McMahon in veteran leadership from commissioner Oliver Luck. The idea seemed promising. But just five weeks in Copen, nineteen forced the xfl hit pause, and then unlike other leaks. It announced it was shutting down for good. Today the inside story of why the xfl closed doors, and whether it could have been saved. I'M UNICOM'S IT's Tuesday June sixteenth. This is espn daily presented by marathon. Shaken. What's Shakin what she can not much some to you're talking to you Kevin Siefert writes about the NFL and the xfl for ESPN. So Kevin the last time you and I talked was to preview the xfl so excited about this new league time the rules and how funding would be, and whether it would work, and while sadly, we are gathered here today to autopsy the xfl the. League officially suspended their operations on April tenth season quote the uncertainty of the current environment, obviously referencing the corona virus pandemic. What was it like inside the League on that day? It was pretty wild. Actually talked to Kurt unsecure. WHO's the president of the Saint? Louis? Battle. Hawks and he heard some rumors he had wondered if the League would. Need to cut back in some way like many businesses, but he at most thought there might be some layoffs or potentially some furloughs, but when he woke up that morning. Like many other xfl employees he saw the. Direct deposit from. His pay. Was much larger than normal. Anyone who's ever worked in an office setting or a for a company of any kind knows that on your last day you get a paycheck for your salary, and also for any occasion time accumulated, and that's what that's. What happened here and that was really the first sign that he occurred hunziker or anybody. Really who worked for the xfl knew that not only were some changes about to happen, but. Some really ominous events were about the Kerr that day. And they found out. There was a going to be an all company conference. Call at about noon. And that's where they were informed that everyone who works for the League was terminated. Kevin Win all that down. The XFL was on hold like pretty much everything else right I mean the pandemic hit a sports world back in March when the NBA system. It's season. WWe Closes headquarters in Stamford Connecticut days later then on March. Twentieth six fell big flat out of their season, and said we look forward to playing full seasons for you, and with you in twenty twenty one, so it seemed like at the time the plan wasn't afford the league entirely, but just hit pause. Pick up when the pandemic was over. Why do you think they thought they could keep going back then? I think they they felt pretty good that in the five weeks at the season had managed to get through they had. Gone a long way. Towards proving the concept they had pulled in about twenty million league revenues, and they're projecting forty six million through the rest of the year. They're TV. Ratings had dipped, but they were about to go on a run of having most of their games, either on ABC or Fox and so, that would probably at least stabilized the ratings, and they thought that they would have for the first time since they had started building the league time to really sit down, pull apart their thoughts and come up with a better product, the following year Vince McMahon who the owner of the League he had pulled almost four hundred million dollars out of WWe stocks into his personal account to finance. Really for two or three years, and so they knew the money was there, he had put up about two hundred million, and was committed to paying another hundred and fifty million a year for a few years. Until they could potentially get the profitability, so there was. A lot of confidence that the money existed to continue subsidizing the League in that long term plan would not be sacrificed just because the season had to end more abruptly than they had hoped. I didn't know that so the xfl Vince McMahon rather was using wwe money to fund the XFL. Right away you know Vincent Man's the owner of w w well early state, the founder and the CEO, and so he had lots of stock, and so he used that stock eventually to fund the XFL. There was a division, a financial and business division, but you know there was also a shared services agreement between the two. Certainly the way they were able to recruit coaches and front office people and even the Commissioner Oliver luck the way they were able to convince people to come aboard was the show them the plan the financial plan that he had to spend money over the over those three years, there was public documents. That showed that the stock had been sold in that the money was now. In Vincent. Man's hands to fund the XFL and that's why they they felt so good about it. So the xfl like every other sport announces. Hey, we're going on pause. Then a couple of weeks pass. What was the state of play at the beginning of April? Really at the beginning of April the XFL was in off season mode. Oliver Lock. WHO's the commissioner had been asked to come up with twenty, twenty, one I jets. He had asked all the department has all the team presidents to come up with plans to market the teams throughout the long off season. That was to come. Everything was in the XFL. Offices were being directed towards this twenty twenty one season and a lot of times towards the twenty twenty two seasons well, they were looking ahead, saying okay, here's what we want to do in twenty twenty one. We WanNa make it better, and this is what we want and twenty twenty two, and then then we look to see if we can be profitable and this was all going on really. Really, in between the time, the xfl canceled season, and when it shuttered and had bankruptcy, and so those plans were all compiled, and I'll reluctant demand to Vince McMahon, and then they didn't hear anything. They didn't hear anything back, and they thought maybe it was because Wrestlemainia was going on. People had their attention there, but that was something that caused a little bit of unease as the second week of April arrived and that. They've been asked to create these budgets. And then there have been radio silence. So Oliver Overlook. Who was commissioner of the XFL also Andrew looks father for those who don't know and has been a sports executive for years used to NFL Europe who's an executive with the NCWA? He's going about his business. Assuming the league's going to come back putting together some plans, and then what happens. And then he gets a call or actually gets a letter on April ninth stating that he had been fired for cause and the letter came from. Vincent man and from the his attorney listing supposed. Infractions to his contract into his duties that Oliver Luck had apparently committed in his response, Oliver Luck in his legal papers, said he had never been told of any of these issues, but on April Ninth I, think about five o'clock is when Oliver Luck found out, he'd been fired. So what elect do? You know he is already in his home. In Indianapolis, the xfl offices were closed, and so he immediately got with his lawyer. Because when you get fired, because usually that can mean that the guarantee in your contract is no longer valid, and so he has sued for wrongful termination, not only disputing the reasons that Vince McMahon fired him which among other reasons, whereas the use of company cell phone for personal reasons which. Many people in the xfl on in the public to be an awfully little bit of a petty, and that's not even editorializing. It's just a fact. You know petty reason to fire sports commissioner WHO's making. Between five and seven million dollars a year, and so he not only is disputing the facts of what was in the latter, his termination letter, but also that the xfl never gave him the thirty days. That's required in his contract to correct any issues that ownership is having, and so that is currently playing out in court. We'll see who wins on that or whether there is some kind of negotiation that occurs, but at the moment Oliver Luck seeking twenty three point eight million dollars from Vince McMahon, who can fill the contract that he signed in two thousand, eighteen to be the commissioner of the xfl.

"wwe" Discussed on The New Day: Feel the Power
"W in August of Oh nine. Remember hearing stories about it. I remember the time line but I definitely wasn't up on the road. It was it was probably like my first taste of the extreme randomness of WWe literally came into work one day. And everyone's like okay. So Freddie Prince is going to be on the writing team and you guys are GonNa be taking acting lessons from them a couple times a week and I'm just like Freddie Freddie like in a wrestling setting I'm like oh Shirley it's gotta be somebody with the same the same name and then we met and I'm like no that's like legit Freddie Brits Junior man in the I'm an acting class you know learning from you. It's so also easier real weird coast 'cause like it was like sixty percent and it was mainly like the younger roster were high and they were like okay. Let's see what like forty percent. We're like no no chance in. I mean it was just. They were not having it yet and I promise last week. Did I remember ms who was doing his own thing and doing well with Morrison and they had their dirt. She'd and I think I don't I don't know if they had the titles yet but they were kind of doing their thing and we're going to do. Exercise called repetition and Goldfield randomly probably remember. You're locked into whatever I say. It's like Improv techniques. So I'd say that's the biggest Hawkeye assured I've ever seen and then biggies locked into that verbiage. So he goes. This is the biggest hawkeye straight. You've ever seen this is the biggest. Hawkeye short and it goes back and forth when it's two guys. It always gets like almost physical because our first reaction is big Hawkeye. Sir I've ever as we get closer and closer than some let's go y'all don't fight for real which had to do one time and then if it's a guy and a girl it always gets like sexy right there like a big shot in the no matter what late in the hallways and so. I said who wants to try it. Nobody wanted to try. And Mrs like I got it and I'm like all right. This guy's got guts. He's coming up. You don't know what he's in for but he's stepping up and I aren't man I'll start. He goes no no no. I'll start.
Kassius Ohno among the names laid off/furloughed by WWE
"Wwe made a lot of cuts this week. talent they furloughed producers. I'm sure people whose names we don't know throughout the entire company. Were let go as well so that sad day at the top of the pro wrestling business. And we I mean you can touch on some of the people specifically who let go. I mean there's Rousseff Rushes guys like that eighty English. Some real talented people got let go All of them have talent in their own right bites. The other thing is like people are kind of really shocked by this and WWE's lend people go go. Yeah they hoard it a lot of talent. This was probably long overdue. It sucks that. They're letting him go in this climate where they can't get another job like shit. You're hoarding towel. Let him go six months ago But even with that being said this isn't a wwe problem one. This is a world problem in two. It's professional wrestling problem. As a whole we look at New Japan. Those guys haven't worked in months since wrestle kingdom like those they're technically not like oh they're not quote unquote furloughed but damn worked in months.

"Things so there's been many cuts all across many businesses but there's a way to cut employees in that there's never an easy way to do it but there's a right way and a wrong way to any W. W. we employ that was cutter for forward today that didn't get a call and suppose they were in a five minutes a five minute conference call and then they informed employees V. attacks the attacks that they were getting laid off that is despicable that is absolutely gross if you're going to unfortunately fire someone because the corona virus pandemic and every business needs needs to make changes right now you pick up the phone and you call them if you're asking people to take a salary reduction or if you're asking you know if you're telling people we are taking your job away even if you have a lot of employees to get to you picked up the phone and you call them you don't just send out a tax so I stopped down to the W. "My setup so I suspect that over time if we are in this for the long haul it will get better but I appreciate everyone who attends to download and listen to all our stuff not only here but on Youtube and of course on the INSTAGRAM LIVES. That we've been doing on. Espn plus with shale. We got a lot to discuss today. I'm really excited about today's show because obviously on all the different platforms that we're doing things in trying to keep you occupied and perhaps a little bit distracted from what's going on in the real world. I want to try to do more of that because I think there's a lot of places right now where you can learn about. What's going on in the real world then? It's all very important but I do think it's important to give you guys in escape as well on something to to get your mind off things so we'll blending what's going on in the real world what's going on in the Sports World Today on the program because I think that what is happening in the world of professional wrestling is fascinating for us in the mixed martial arts world and there are some lessons that can be learned and I just think that if you're curious about how people are trying to proceed in this new normal at least for now This is a fascinating story to talk about so with that in mind it is a pleasure to say hello once again to my old pal coming at us from the six. Four One. Six to be exact. The Great John Pollock of post wrestling formerly of live audio wrestling the fight network. If you've been listening to our shows and watching our shows all these years you know John Pollock is. He doesn't need an introduction but he is a phenomenal combat sports journalists. These days certainly focuses on pro wrestling. His website post wrestling DOT COM. Like waiting in many others wanted to pick his brain about what's going on over there and and and perhaps compared to what's going on in our little world of mixed martial arts so without further ado let us say hello to John. John How are you Ariel? It is great to speak with you. Thank you for having me on and looking forward to chatting with you. It's a lot more time to to speak so I always appreciate the invite yes and I think I I. I feel compelled anytime I talked to someone right now. How are you guys doing? How's your family? How are you guys coping with this situation? I mean it's it's certainly been felt it's been a big adjustment my self. My wife are both working from home. We also have a two year old son so this week. It's kind of been you know We have not been having our parents like that have typically been coming in and helping to watch him. It's been the two of us which is actually worked out really. Well I think that as you go through any kind of changes to your routine were were very much creatures of habit and then you establish your new habits and just get acclimated to the differences but yeah certainly. There's concern just about Your parents other people. I have a sister WHO's a police officer. So she's obviously kind of front center out dealing with a lot of issues And such but I mean overall. I can't complain too much about myself personally. I'm still able to work but it's definitely a a complete change. Just if I go out once a day for a walk and seeing the city around me it just it feels like you're in a movie. Wow Yeah of course. I'm in the suburbs but I I've seen the the the photos videos of the the major metropolitan cities across North America. And it does feel like a movie. Very Surreal. I had no idea that your sister was a police officer. That's incredible so you and your creek have something in common. His wife is a police officer. Your sisters police officer but I thought that That was very interesting. I had no idea. Now it's also interesting because for you like most sports journalists. The action has stopped. There's nothing to talk about but for you you guys haven't stopped like yes. The events are happening in empty arenas. Wwe Events A. W. Vince Of No but like nothing has really stopped. I would imagine you're just as busy if not busier than usual right as a journalist. It's the oddest thing that you can't help but be so consumed by what is going on in the world right now were inundated with so much information and I have. I've just gone through. Spurts where I'm just diving in reading and listening to as much as I can and then also trying to take a break from it but you look at and maybe your timeline is similar that you almost see like two different worlds that there is everything to shut down here. This little alcove of sports that we cover are preceding or at least attempting to proceed in the case of the UFC but wwe. All wrestling late day are moving forward. There's some companies in Japan. Who were hit with this a lot earlier? And that's a point. I brought up before. Is that fans that have been following the Japanese wrestling scene. I think kind of had an understanding a few weeks earlier of just how serious this was because new Japan had stopped running shows after February. Twenty six their whole lineup for March which included a major tournament was shelved. So you could already see the effects on that part of the world now fast forward a couple of weeks where experiencing it firsthand but yeah. It's it's certainly an interesting debate. Of should these companies be going forward with these empty arena shows versus the urgent messaging? That seems to be amplifying at the moment about everyone needing to stay at home. And that is extreme as these measures are it. Sounds like the prevailing thought is. This is not enough. This needs to be even more so that we have to be isolating so so. How'd you feel when you watch these events even though they're empty arenas you're still seeing you guys? Interact with each other touch each other wrestle with each other physical. I'll admit when I watched that Brasilia. See Card it felt weird not only because it was in an empty arena. But because like we're being told to keep away from everyone and now you have people very much getting physical with each other when you're watching. These events continued to go on. Does it feel weird to you very much? So I've been very uncomfortable and kind of vocal about that. That watching these shows. It's I do understand that. There is a segment that is looking for entertainment right now that these companies are providing that at a time. When you know people have time on their hands I do get that. I just don't place as the number one priority. I'm looking out for these performers as well and it's not just that they are putting themselves potentially at some level of risk. You know there was a a clinical care physician here in Toronto that we had on our show and he described it to me that you know it's probably low to medium risk what these wrestlers are going through. But you know increases that to like around a medium-risk when you take into account that some of these talents they're they're flying they're not florida-based. So they're traveling and then what they could what risk they could potentially be bringing to others as well. And you're watching this. This is a very physical form of of entertainment that we're watching and when you look at all of these other sports leagues are just going. The cautious route and not even entertaining. This and I think it has to bring about some level of questioning of. Is this the right decision to be making at the moment going forward? And it's been pro wrestling. And to a lesser extent mixed martial arts that seemed to been at the forefront of pressing through this pandemic. Yeah which is totally bizarre when you consider what they actually do when they are competing to the best of your knowledge or has anyone said publicly that they don't feel comfortable any big names any performers. Bigger small talk to you said anything on social media said anything like this should probably stop for now. Well there had been some from from every you know Sense that I have is that in both. Wwe and eighty W it. This has not been the these are mandatory. It's if you're not comfortable you do not have to come to these shows and that has been a consistent message that I've heard privately spoken to people publicly. There's a wrestler. Wwe named Leo Rush. Who spoke about not being comfortable doing these shows and I have to imagine that that is probably widespread. We're seeing you know. It seems like they are very much trying to keep this to a minimum of the essential personnel. To put these shows forward. So I'm sort of at the point now because I talked about it. A lot and have received a lot of pushback from people for my opinion of this but it is how. I feel that if these shows are going forward which they have decided to do the best you can hope for. Is that there mitigating risk but at the conclusion I am. I'm not in support of these shows going forward. I just think there's too many questions at the moment that it is not worth the risk this moment and it's something that everyone is feeling the effects of at this moment there isn't any perfect answer that they can just stop these shows and there isn't some kind of damage to these companies financially. It's like everybody is going through that at the moment. Because as a collective we're looking at wrapping our arms around this virus to contain it and hopefully mitigate the effects that it's going to have and an end this I would imagine much like you have see these guys aren't just getting a blanket tests. Representatives blanket testing everyone on the roster just for the sake of testing them. They're they're probably GONNA test them if they show symptoms right Islamic the NBA where every performance been tested. I believe it's it's a case where they are monitoring their temperature but I don't real what above and beyond they have at their disposal that that's the other problem is that there is some gigantic access to testing of covert nineteen. Like these tests are very much for the people that are in most need of them and professional wrestlers that are wrestling several times. A week are not going to be priorities to be. Dispersing these these tests for and as well like we're learning about like a symptomatic spread so that's where someone might not be displaying those symptoms. That could be going on and competing and it's not for several days before they could develop those symptoms so again it's just to me. There is to me any level of risk at this point. I think it's a real gamble. And One person that ends up with the virus that really shuts down everything at that point and by the way has ww come out and said why they are just going ahead with things will get to Wrestlemainia the big one in a second but have they actually like put out a statement as to their line of thinking here not not so much no. It's just. They have decided to go through with the shows. I mean they are not even saying though the terms corona virus or covert nineteen on their broadcasts. Be The most that they've even alluded to what's going on is that we are in an in an empty arena due to the dire circumstances in the world. And that's you know pretty much. The ONLY ACKNOWLEDGMENT. They very much are viewing themselves like we are escapist entertainment at this point that we're providing for people and you have to look at the the big question and this goes beyond just a wwe to all. Sports Leagues Right now. Is You know so much of their business. Is centered around television rights and providing content for these networks. I mean how much of that plays into the equation for. Wwe To move forward with this which is a completely different question about Wrestlemainia as well which will just beyond their their streaming service as well coming up. Yeah so as far as these shows are concerned just to be clear. Are they live right now? Or are they taped? They have been live up until this point but this week they were getting ahead and just doing multiple days in a row of taping so at this point they have taped next week's episodes of raw and smackdown. They've taped the next two episodes of smackdown. So all the programming leading into Wrestlemainia. And they'll also have the night after Wrestlemainia that episode of raw taped in addition to wrestlemainia. That they are taping. Today this being Wednesday and Thursday. There are taping wrestlemainia today. They're taping it today and Thursday. Come on really. Wow so many will not be live. No no they're taping it in advance because it's it is a risk that a week from this coming weekend. What are potential travel restrictions going to be at? What if like? There's a lot of questions to me if you're going to do this. The best way is to just bulk tape and get yourself as far ahead as you can because there may not be the option to even get everyone in the In Orange County in Florida they have just issued a like a stay at home provisions for people as well. I don't know if that would necessarily affect ww taping. But I think you're really leaving it to chance if you were to try and run this live That we get. Wow that is fascinating As as a journalist you are now being faced with the toughest test of your career. What happens if you get your hands on Wrestlemanias? Spoilers report them or do you not We've discussed this. I think we would. We would report them and label them as such and leave it to the reader if they want to read them It is worth noting that as we're speaking today. They have done a lot of tapings and nothing has gotten out. It's you know these are it's essential personnel. It's a small number that's in there and you know I'm sure over the years area like you would hear certain things out of ultimate fighter but I mean it wasn't really prevalent that you would come out of a season of the ultimate fighter knowing a whole lot so I'm thinking that's kind of what we're that's kind of what I'm expecting now. I don't know if they'll come out or not but granted. It's over a week until the show airs and are they even taking precautions like filming two separate finishes for matches just for that barrel provision. I mean that sounds ridiculous but I would not put a pass them to do that just to ensure that a smaller circle as possible aware of these results. I've never been someone that look. It's like spoil is not matter to me at all so but I definitely know of the larger public that it is certainly something that they go to great cost to avoid now. Is it true that it's going to be taped like all over the place in different places outside of the performance center or is it just going to be at their performance center?.

"He's got all this talent that they can't seem to find the place for but they're hiring. Somebody like Rob Gronkowski to be a wrestler with the WWe bully. As as you know that wwe loves those means stream names and loved that celebrity value and Rob Gronkowski is. Both of those. Absolutely GRONK is young. He's athletic. He has a personality. And what even more than all of those things he has notoriety. He has a name. So if you find out that ROB. Gronkowski is going to be appearing on smackdown. Let's say you're not a wwe fan but you're patriots fan and you're morbidly interest interested. You're GONNA tune in. Let's see what this guy's got. Let's see what he can do. Obviously ESPN and all these other outlets are going to pick it up. Listen the other day me and you were talking about how we weren't enthralled with the direction that edge and Orton winning right Espn on twitter. Picked it up and showed an entire two minutes and twenty minutes. Second highlight reel. That did like I don't know three hundred four hundred thousand views. Espn liked it enough to put it up on their social media mainstream. Espn picking up wwe once again. So this is what. Wwe's always looking for the cross over audience. Wwe does not cater to their fans now. I'm not saying that they don't care about their fans or they're not trying to entertain their fans but wwe especially. Vince knows once he's got them. He's got them. Not many people leave. Not many people cancel. I do know last month. That reports came out that the network subscriptions were down ten percent or there was a ten percent cancellations. Something like that so there might be some small cracks in the wall but for the most part. Wwe Fans are extremely loyal and have been for probably fifty years. Maybe more so. Vince doesn't bring in Gronkowski going. Wow I think my fan base is going to love this. He knows that the fan base is either going to love it. Or they're going to hate it but they're most likely not going to tune out because of it so maybe I can bring on some new fans with Gronkowski and that's the business behind. Why they do it and listen. We know this bully when Rhonda Rousey came to the wwe a lot of hard core wwe faithful hated it and hated Ronda. Rousey man I don't understand why like Ronda. Rousey nine only was a mainstream name. That brings you a lot of attention. She was phenomenal. Like whether you want to admit it or not Ronda Rousey was fantastic in the ring and a Lotta Times on the microphone and brought mainstream appeal and was the big piece needed to make that match last year. A main event at Wrestlemania thirty five. Now I'm not saying that Rob Gronkowski's in the same league as Rhonda Rousey because Ronda Rousey was a combat sports athlete. Rob Gronkowski is not but ROB Gronkowski was phenomenal football player. We've seen it over the history of wrestling bully where former NFL player in a lot of players that couldn't make it to the NFL that their whole world was engrossed in pro. Football became pro wrestlers. And it's worked. I mean perfect. Example is who you're going to see in a championship match because you're champion in the WWe Nets Goldberg. You know Dr Death. Williams Ernie ladd. The why who mcdaniel The list. L. Lawrence Taylor for I mean seriously. The list goes on and on if people that have crossed over to the world of football into pro wrestling. I wonder if more people with like Rob Gronkowski in the world that a WWe as opposed to people that disliked Ronda Rousey being in the wwe. Somebody just chimed in on the twitter machine and said I'm a huge patriots and I despise the thought of Gronkowski. Ww All right my and this. We're GONNA open up the phones here because I think this is definitely I want to understand the thinking behind at eight. Seven seven three four four four eight nine three eight seven seven fight ninety-three Bully. I WANNA know. Why like why would you hey rob Gronkowski trying to be a WWe superstar now? The the number one reason people are going to say is because he's taking up a spot that other people deserve. I mean if people bitch and Moan about Goldberg or any other veteran that comes back and they say they're taking up a spot that the younger guys should have. How do you think they're gonNA feel about somebody like Gronkowski? Let me ask you this. Bully did Ronda. Rousey help or hurt. Becky Lynch I would have to see Becky Lynch's bank account to give you an honest answer all right. So forget about the financials just in the perception of how you see her on. Wwe TV did ron now and also remember where Becky Lynn. Status was before Ronda. Rousey Gabe did Ronda. Rousey help or hurt. Becky Lynch helped her tremendously gave her the rub. There's no doubt about it. I can hear the Becky Lynch fans screaming right now and those that are screaming once again. I'm sorry you just don't get it because Ronda Rousey was more of a household name than Becky Lynch was and Becky sharing the spotlight with Rhonda makes becky a bigger perceived star. Yes Endre percent. Would Becky Lynch have been in the main event at Wrestlemania thirty five? It wasn't Farrand drowsy. I don't think any woman would have been in the main event of Wrestlemania. Thirty five wasn't around. The right Ronda Rousey am I saying that Charlotte and Becky and Sasha and Oscar and women like that don't belong in the main event absolutely not because I speak very highly of those four wrestlers but I do not think they would have been in the main event without Rhonda. I also go as far as to say and I'm not the only one saying it's Jim Cornet. Who hates anything past the year of Nineteen eighty-seven thought that Ronda Rousey his first match in the WWe was the greatest debut of all time? Ronda Rousey first match with Kurt? Angle Against Stephanie and triple H at Wrestlemania in New Orleans was unbelievable who was unbelievable and to be able to say that that's possibly the greatest debut match of all time. That's saying something Ronda. Rousey took the pro wrestling the same way she took. A broad did a phenomenal job. I got I have no problem. Listen the wrestler in me understands wrestler frustration when it comes to people from the outside coming in but the businessman in me totally gets it. Now if I'm the wrestler WHO's getting to work with Rondo. I'm over the moon excited because I know the WWe is high on Rhonda thus whoever's in the ring with her they're going to be high on also some. It'd be well taken care of for that day week month or year that I'm involved in her program. I could see how everybody else should be upset. Disgruntled witness I witnessed it before with my own eyes but then again if you look at it from dollars and cents point of view it's like when rocky came back for these wrestlemanias and a. Lotta guys are upset. Oh rocks coming back. And he's taken the spot of a guy that deserves to be their first of all rock was a WWe superstar homegrown talent. Who did everything and anything you could possibly do then went on to Hollywood and the door is always open for somebody like that to come back and the door is more open for guys like stone cold in the rock because they did such huge business. So if I'm a wrestler and I know the Rock is coming back. I'm looking at it as well. If rockies in the main event of Wrestlemainia that means all the numbers will be up by rates will be up. Subscriptions will be up ticket. Sales will be up and if the groceries up we all get a bigger piece of the gross so at the end of the day. What matters the most amount of money in my bank account the Rock and put more money in my bank account? Then I should be happy. That's the businessman talking the wrestler would say damn it. I wish I was in that spot. What we have pro wrestling is entirely too much jealousy and I despise jealousy in the wrestling business. If you're mad the rock is coming back from Hollywood and main eventing Wrestlemainia. You know what you should do. Go become the rock. Go get more over or as over as the rock become the WWe champion. Do everything that you possibly could do in the wwe. Dona Hollywood become a star and then come back and do whatever the hell you want. I guess I seriously. And you're you're talking about a financially for those I and I I'm sure when Rhonda We dealt with it we talked about when Ron became. There was a lot of athletes in that locker room that were upset and then there were athletes in that locker room. That couldn't wait for Ronda. Rousey to come. I'm sorry and people are going to hate on me for Becky. Lynn's became a bigger star. Because of Ronda Rousey Ronda Rousey is arguably the most popular wrestler in the wwe. A lot of that has to do with Ron drowsy. See I I. St Data a fact. Now I'm not saying that. Rob Gronkowski is going to be Ronda Rousey. But you don't win two super bowls in. You're not one of some people call Rob Gronkowski winter. The greatest tight ends of all time so obviously we know bully that he's extremely athletic in the world of the NFL. And I know it's different than pro wrestling in the world of the NFL. He is one of the most charismatic football players in the last fifteen to twenty years. That's a fact. So the guy's athletic the guys charismatic now. Is he going to be able to be a pro wrestler? I don't know but I'm going to be ruined for the guy. I hope he comes in and he does a tremendous job and when it comes to what the wwe is looking for these days. Wwe doesn't turn wrestling schools anymore. For their wrestles. Yeah if you have some superior talent at a wrestling school that can make it past one of the camps. Yeah they'll take a shot on you the WWe. Where did they found brock listener? Jerry briscoe found them wrestling at Minnesota's. Ncaa heavyweight champion. They're looking at wrestlers in college. They're looking at cross fit athletes. You know iron man. Iron woman extreme sports all of these different areas. They're looking for a look I. They're looking for personality. Second and then. They say hey. Are you interested in this because we think we can do something with you because they see some raw talent that's all Gronkowski is but he's actually more than raw talent his raw talent with a name and on top of that for the wrestling fan. It's upset about this. He loves pro wrestling. He's a pro wrestling fan. He grew up a fan. He's a fan now. So here's a guy who made it in the world of the. Nfl is a fan and now could help put a little bit more popularity a little bit more media attention to pro wrestling. Why how can that be a bad thing? And if he sucks he sucks. We'll talk about it when the time comes. But how could you not support somebody like Rob Gronkowski? How could you not be behind a decision like this for? Wwe and there's a there's a story an angle for him built in if he were to show up on smackdown. It's right there in front of them if you don't know Sirius. "With dip in popularity. It's not surprising. Many fans are clamoring for a return of the attitude era nowadays anytime the WWe produces anything that is even vaguely reminiscent of the course. Crew days of the late nineties. The Internet wrestling community is lit up with discussions about whether the attitude era will make a comeback fans long four days of the attitude. Era again they. That's that's why you see these days. Wwe Trot out old SARS stone. Cold Steve Austin so often because fans still go wild it was only a couple months ago that stone cold came out and whenever his music hits the fans go absolutely insane still. He hasn't wrestled since two thousand three and yet he is still the USA. Still the biggest star in wrestling and he's not wrestling. He'll come in. He'll give somebody a stone. Cold Steve Butter the FAN stunner. The fans will lose their minds and then he'll leave and people will say man wasn't wrestling great in the nineties. People still eat it up. They love it. But there's very little chance the wwe will return to the ways of the attitude era for one main reason in two thousand and eight the wwe officially went PG after spending most of its existence under the TV fourteen rating. The company decided to shift to a more family oriented product that caters to the masses. The new PG rating and cleaner programming has brought in a lot of new viewers and better advertisers and sponsors like snickers KFC and cricket wireless and according to SPONSORSHIP DOT COM WWe posted a thirty percent year over year increase in sponsorship revenue in two thousand seventeen. That's four times more than twenty. Ten critics complained that with the shift. Wwe is now corny and two kid friendly. But don't expect things to change anytime soon the problem with WWF. Now if you move back to TV fourteen you're losing you'RE GONNA lose a lot of different sponsors and they're publicly held so they can't do that they have to respect a lotta the sponsors that they have and I always say that. "The mind. Vince McMahon here. Oh you're asking asking me well I mean again. I'm not. I'm not Dr Phil as you said. I'm not even Dr Conner has said but my goodness we're we're getting our former biggest competitor. Make that with our daughter and our wife on TV. Good television PAL. You television. We're talking about are we. Oh my God the big laugh so I I I. Don't you're asking me very valid questions regarding events that I have not the slightest clue of how to answer logically it honestly honestly why he does. Some of the things he does is part of his genius in a crazy perverse way. There's no doubt about it is a different different breed of cat and him. I remember the scene. I was very uncomfortable. The scene where Eric and Linda had their kissing thing I think they take convinces house And the Stephanie. When I remember the setup for that when he was in an inside ran mask he was he pretended to be Eh her dad and then it was revealed that it wasn't her dad making out whether it was actually a visual? That's all that's creepy. So I I I. I can't tell you why what comes out of that mind. This is some different stuff folks. dippers too Well you know and again. I'm not trying to psychoanalyze van. It's just fascinating to me that we're doing this with one. Events is a former biggest rival. And and there's no no more of a surreal moment than the Promo on the way to one nice standoff five where you've got Paul Heyman. Vince McMahon and Eric Bischoff all in the ring together. They're interviewed like to see this. You can throw in your Google machine. Paul Heyman Invites Eric Bischoff DC. W One night stand and obviously we're we're years past when this was us when this would have been really really special probably six or seven years too late but Vince Heyman and Bischoff all in the ring at the same time quite the visual Yeah absolutely one of those Yogi Berra things who it was. It was quite a night. I liked all those sir. Louis C. C. W. W. W. shows great passion and emotion and kind of what. They're trying to replicate what the next T- we now smackdown overall and doing it. The course at the perhaps single AWA action. We'll see but but who cares. I tell our guys all time. Why don't you give a shit what they're doing next day care? I admire their work. Learn from it but sure. Don't get delivered intimidate you because we got our shit we can't do. We can't do anything that we can't I learn. Conrad and I relate in life. I learned this. Yes I used to get really fixated over shit I could had no. I had no control over. I would get so focused on problems that had no way of solving elving and then be frustrated to the point of being sick. When I couldn't solve the problem it was unsolvable for me and that took her situation? Sure so I I just I can't. I can't go there. I can't I can't see that deal. But those three guys icons and a certain an air there are wrestling or they were as big as the flares behind the scenes in this game. Let's start to wind this down and talk talk a little bit about the end of his run here and him sort of behind the scenes Bruce tells a tremendous story about an interaction. Chin- Jerry Briscoe birthday party. And you know we're we're Eric was just one of the boys the longer he was around as you said it did sort he did start start sort of blend in and everybody's just accepted that he was part of the crew. Were interesting stories or memories of Bischoff. Just the guy not on camera. Sure well in. I found to be very interesting. Go talk with he can talk. He talked kit good and lacked up about things other than pro wrestling. I liked his vision creativity on a small business entrepreneur. Your ship is something and that creative of area. He was interesting to talk with a lot of things and then we had a lot in common. You know both brought into the business with now. They're looking to be a wrestler Try to make it as a broadcaster salesperson or whatever we did a lot of the same gigs for for Vernon me for the cowboy. So there's some common ground there but you know again. Eric was hard to get to know back. Then when I got the chance to talk more and we always ask I always I try to optimize optimal over TV. You know what's going on anything you need all right and you know to let him know that needed anything. I'm here so nothing. Nothing specific stories other than as time went on. I think that time and WWe Eric when he was a character. Even though it looks like Vincent this was a fun with that stuff and maybe was. I'm not trying to defend Vinson that deal. I don't know it's just. We never talked about it. I think that Arrogant became better friends and law that animosity. All that far as I'm concerned all the animosity I had towards him for you know for poor meaning in it. I think he's retarded my break or I should have had that gig not him way way way as society and that'll give a shit about anymore. I'm happy and I'm glad he had. He had a good run. I've had a great run so You know but the that time w really helped us establish a relationship nations ship. Not Based on the instance of that moment the animosity the hurt feelings and all those things we both moved on and to this very day I I think we have a very civil leaves. WB and Fallen fashion to say the least he He gets the script thinks it's funny. They wanted to get his character off the air to give it a rest. Stephanie assures him that's not going to be the end of working with him. They just you know wanted to take a break from the GM angle here. He'd been doing it for like three and a half years as an evil dictator. He's cool with it so he he takes a look the script and says maybe instead of having John Cena throw him into the back of garbage truck that it should be Vince who was in the trash and they have been of a kangaroo court here. Vince decides pay on TV announced. He's fired it gets Dumped into the The garbage truck. And he's out of there and that's the end of Eric Bischoff in in wwe and then we know years later he would pop popping TNA. Were you surprised to see in two thousand nine that he's getting back in the wrestling business. But it's not what you guys instead it's in fact with Dixie Carter in a little bit but not wholeheartedly because it's like the rest of US Conrad soon as blood you know in. It's hard to divest yourself of something that you've missile fashion about since you were a kid and Eric was a fan as a kid and and again had that that Unique job journey to gory was so I wasn't surprised that he he was back in the game. And really at that time Dixie and her crew crew. TNA were the best option. There was no W W right. So what's next at any minute. Doda vivere few years so to me. That was the obvious destination. It's all you're always surprised because the surprise to me is I wonder what their job description is. I wonder are who has what say what autonomy are if you don't have any autonet what's what is a structure and that's what I never did get straight with a lot of the hires is there a TNA is that who was the bull the woods and who wasn't and sometimes we both know too many cooks in the kitchen. It's not a great thing. Well he had a little run here recently with. WWe That has been pretty well documented. And he's got some other stuff cooking behind behind the scenes but it's worth mentioning. That shelf had way more. Success Reducing Television shows than even did in wrestling and that's hard for us wrestling fans to believe because the height of WCW in Nitro and the interview or so big. But I think a lot of fans to sort of lose sight of the fact that he's really more of a ATV guy than a wrestling guy. negree yeah absolutely. And when he got that when he and Bruce both got announced to be in their new roles on raw smackdown respectively You Know I. I was sort of both guys. They've got their families are still with them. And and all the stuff I I just you know you hope that they do well but I never did understand the job description. I always do this. Whoever is running the show on smackdown or say magneto because it's on Fox is a more hypersensitive role in my view? Dan The set person on on raw this answering to the USA. People now not saying that one's better than the other two saying that there's there's a lot more to learn at people a lot more pressure on on network television and all the perks. WWE's getting being offered all the promotional on Fox which is astronomical voice. Sunday football this year. They're all over it. I would direct T. direct ticket ago where we call it and you know I watch a lot of football. Sundays can and there's a lot of promotional Fox games or for a smackdown. It's a great deal. It's a great deal for them. So you know I I. I think that the smackdown role is GonNa Bull's eye on it and you got this yet this structure Corporate structure where. There's a fall guy if something doesn't go quite right or there's miscue or you know there's a fumble you gotTa Fall Guy that that can be replaced. The does tear machinery. He still feeling about her. Outsted that somebody else am. I think Eric's victims of that to some degree because I never did understand how the system had changed that have been in place forever our or visit always the last word. Everything's got to go through him and if that's still the case and nothing's changed you just create a role that is expendable edible that if you replace it it can sound good. It makes sense corporately but quite frankly. It's almost expected and it won't be the last asked another positions change can promise you when it's all said and done what do you think Michelle legacy and wrestling will be smart guy Really had great ideas. We'll head of his time on certain things but a good TV guy a really good team together. Good I for a solid product. mis-read misunderstood by a lot of people but overall a winner interesting business. No doubt about it. And he's a winner right here on Westwood one every Monday with eighty three weeks if you haven't already go check out. Eighty three weeks Eric's perspective on all things Awa me a WCW wwe and even a little bit of TNA and He's pulling no punches over there and it is much more business associated conversation sation maybe a little less about creative more about business but a fun look into the mind a very bischoff the businessman and the Creator and the Salesperson and Jim I appreciate you taking the time for us to catch up and talk about Eric Bischoff a little bit but a lightning rod of controversy seemingly from the minute he got in the business and I guess when it's all said no in he's He's like a lot of guys in the business. Just a businessman You've said before everybody here is trying to make a living and it all comes down to the to seize cash and creative creative and it certainly feels like. That's what it was for..

"WWE keeps pushing wrestling and sports entertainment forward in this really sort of mainstream mainstream way in a way that other companies. I'm not gonna say they aren't doing it. They can't do it. It's not their place to do it. This is how why the WWE has been able to transform themselves into a billion dollar entertainment company. It's because you can hear the philosophy in everything that they do when triple h explains the benefit of the performance center for guys that come through it. Listen to this. This is from the inside the ropes YouTube channel, which I would suggest everybody hit up and support. Here when he was doing his thing that two years ago, he came into the performance center, or whatever it was and over the two years that he spent there he had never really cut promos yet never really spoke on camera because he worked in Japan and places where he didn't really have to speak, and he was petrified of it. I remember working with him his one of his first weeks in and we were working on his character and his engines, and I remember walking outside of full sail after a long day TV and I saw he was leaning against the garage door. And he was staring at the ground. I walked by him. And he was like, I'm just a bit overwhelmed, and I was like in what way and he goes. All of it. I've never had anybody even say to me. Let's look at this camera. Let's think about this like we produce a television show, we produce a movie event that is based around in ring and characters and a skill set. Right in a lot of the way, the rest of the world, you learn to to wrestle, and that's kind of about it. And you're kind of figuring that out. We're trying to create something more not only are we trying to create an in ring. So you have to be able to talk to people you have to be able to entertain people you have to be able to connect with them passionately. Not just give them a great match but connect passionately to them. If you think about some of the biggest names ever been in this business. The motion meaningful the largest superstars they haven't always been the best entering performers. They've been the most captivating personalities teaching people how to be something more than just a good wrestler. And then in addition to that. That it's it's you know, media training. It's giving back. It's it's, you know, working with charities. It's it's all the things that we do in how meaningful that can be new managing your finances. It's doing all these things. So that at the end of your career, you have something it's creating the best athletes, the most well rounded athlete, it's taking out the negatives. And putting all the positives in place to make something somebody more. But that's the learning. Are you know, when you say why is Ricky shea there 'cause ricochet was great in ring performer? Same thing that was like petrified to put a microphone in his and have to talk with it that if I said to him look at the gym camera. He'd be like. Wh what's jib camera? Right. Like that's a process, right? It's a process that everybody has to go through to make them something more. It's not always about. Oh, we just have to make you a better wrestler..

"Let's let's let's talk about Ronda Rousey, and what you're seeing with her in. How WWE is pushing and framing and presenting this. She might be the top paid star on the roster right now across the entire board. Per match basis Branca's higher. But overall right now among fulltime talent. Rhonda's probably the highest. What what do you think about how they are? Now that Romans gone to how do you feel that? How do you feel about what you're seeing with Ron and how she's adapting from the UFC personality, and what you may be sawn her as a potential pro wrestler to how how she's presenting yourself and WWE as at this point. I think I think when you're a wrestling fan, and you kind of always get it, you know, and I think it's easier to sort of become that character and play that character win when you're a fan. And I think that she kinda always was trying to be a little WWE in in USC. So I think she's transitioned. Well, I mean, she's kind of. Growing at a rapid rate. I mean, even just with the first promo that she cut can't remember when that was it didn't they do like, a pay per view where they had her come out and do a signing or something and that promo was God awful. And then to seeing her cut the promo on Nikki, Bella. And like, I mean, I it's it's happening. So quick like she will end up being great at everything. I think I think that her entering work is is growing fast. I think she's going to be great there. I think that she's going to be a great talker. I think that there's no reason why they can't just say, hey, if it happens she could be the face of the company. I know that's going to be something that they they probably are going to be hesitant to do because she's a woman, but I also think that WWE follows the headlines, and I think that if she. She ends up being the one that people are talking about or getting behind, and I'm not talking about fans, I'm talking about she pulls the headlines in media. Then I think that they'll they'll go that route. But I also think part of vents is never really going to fully. I think you'll always put if she becomes that. I think he'll put her on the shows. But I think he'll always say what what was it that? I don't know if it was you that said it or if like listening to Bruce Prichard, but it's like you sprinkled at that HOGAN dust, and I feel like with her if she becomes that they're going to put her on the show, and then they're always gonna tach a male superstar to her at the time. It could have been Roman reigns. But hey, we're going to have Ronda Rousey on good Morning, America. Okay. Well, joining us is Ronda Rousey and the WB champion Roman reigns. I think that Vince will always want to do that. I don't think she'll ever stand alone as as the face. But I also think that she's going to lose the appeal of the non wrestling fans, if they continue to just book her as another wrestler on the roster which goes back to that point that I was making earlier I think you need to keep her in that have the people kind of tune in because she's doing something different. And you're entertained by that if she just becomes another wrestler on the roster. I think you're just gonna eventually just have your wrestling fans tuning into Archer. What did you think of Nikki Bella and bringing her corner as opponents for rod, and how they made that turn into the did did it feel to you like a worthy main event match on the first ever all women WWE, pay per view..
