"We've already touched on that. But what is it, you know, I coach college basketball. I coached the high school level. I've never coached professionally. But what is it in your journey personally? Just kind of having all those different lenses and those experiences. What is it that makes you gravitate towards the WNBA? The chess match of the game and getting to spend most of your time. Now, I say that as an assistant coach and person head because that's what my job was. So now this new role, you know, I hope to spend the amount of time that I would spend studying the game and studying opponents and, you know, coming up with that game plan and, you know, in this league, you have sometimes you don't even have 24 hours to get prepared for that next team. And, you know, you think about playing like in Atlanta on a Friday and then having to play New York this year on a Sunday, which is something we're about to do. That's tough. It's challenging and it's fun to figure out that piece. But, you know, what I took from, you can't take away high school and mid major college coaching experience because when you coach in those at those levels, you wear so many different hats. And so when you get to coach at the highest level in the best league in the world, you find a way to appreciate people that are doing the things that you don't even have to worry about any more things that you used to have to do. And so, you know, I think a lot of people want to take that big step, they want to graduate college if they want to get in that coaching career and they want to jump right to the WBA and I just think it does you a disservice in the long run when you can't find those experiences. You know, I was bringing kids home. I was watching their uniforms. I was, you know, doing the things that you, I don't even have to think about anymore. And it just makes you appreciate the all around game and experience more. Going to college, going back to college after I left the Chicago ska. Coach mcewan gave me an opportunity. Northwestern is an incredible place. I thought that that was probably my next step. And if I was going to be a head coach, I was going to go back to college and take that route, and he offered me that opportunity and named me the associate head coach. And I don't know if you guys remember or know, but during that season, we lost one of our players, Jordan hankins. I do. Yeah, yeah, and so for me, in my coaching career in my life, that was probably the hardest, the hardest thing I've ever gone through as a coach or just a person. And it changed me, I was lucky to have some strong people around me that helped us get through that time. But when I tell you, it affected me to the point I didn't realize until we were about to go into the next season. And I could recognize and see things going on with those players that weren't normal. And, you know, people were still fighting what we had all gone through. And it was just a really hard situation. And it really, I ended up having to take a step back and left northwestern at that time in a really bad at a really bad time. Right before the season started, but it was exactly what I needed to do. And when I did step away, there were two players that stepped away and went and got some help that they needed. So in the big picture of things, if me doing that, help them go get what they needed, done, and both those people are excellent now. They're both successful, but graduated college and doing their thing. But it was, it was a hard time. And so pokey was like, hey, you know, if I want you back and if you want to come to Indiana, you always have a job. So I took some time off and then ended up back in Indiana back in the WNBA. So that's kind of that transition I never thought that that would happen. I kind of thought my next path was to stay in college coaching and, you know, we don't really, when we think we know what's going on and what our path is, that's when there's a different plan of put in place. It seems like, what, well, thank you for sharing all that. I mean, one of the things I've always respected so much about you outside of your work ethic, which has always been evident. It's just the lens, you know, you've seen the game so many different ways. And I think, you know, you've put in that time. Leading up into this point right now, and all those experiences, the ones you've talked about so far on the show, you know, making you who you are in this moment. I'm so happy to see you back in Indiana. Happy to see you in this chair. You know, sometimes we see situations where people get fast track. Come on, what you said, and you've put in that time. You've been in different spots. I mean, you have been primed and ready for this situation, even if it wasn't necessarily the path you thought you were going to take. So very appreciative for you to share your story with us. I do want to talk about your staff a little bit. I know you have reunited with some folks. Karima Christmas Kelly Jesse Miller, Jared Simpson, feel free to tell us about them and kind of what they bring to the table for you. Yeah. Well, before I accepted the job, I knew I needed to have one person. I need my right hand man with me, and that's Jesse Miller. Jesse Miller started off with us in Chicago as a manager for the Chicago sky. She was that little workhorse. She did everything that we asked her to do. She, you know, you always want people around you who aren't just doing what you tell them. They're also being innovative and come into you with ideas. And that is who Jesse was from when she was still playing at UIC. And, you know, I watched her grow. She became our video coordinator. And then I left Chicago and poke gave her the opportunity to go with her to Indy. And Jesse is a smart basketball player. She's a smart coach. She's an X's and O's. She's attention to detail. And she is a grinder. And she loves the relationship piece, and that, to me, is I said it earlier in the podcast, you know, relationships for me are the biggest part of this. She is loyal. I can be somewhere else. And I know that Jesse is going to make whatever decision she needs to make. For me, if it has to be, that's going to be the right one. So when she said she was interested and would
Fresh update on "wba" discussed on SI Boxing with Chris Mannix
"I don't know where his kind of king-making fight is going to come. You know, it's almost like he's going to be operating in a different bracket for a while, right? Like, you know, Haney Progray, when that happens, Progray's made some noise about fighting him. Maybe he does. I don't think Haney would go near him because Haney, you know, doesn't care about a unification. Haney cares about money. Haney's already been the undisputed champion in one-way class. Haney wants money fights. And right now Matias is not a money fight. I have no idea what's going to happen with Teofimo in the months to come. Like, every time I go on YouTube, there's a new video of somebody throwing a camera phone at Teofimo's face and him saying something that pretty clearly indicates he's not going to be boxing anytime soon. I know Top Rank wants him back in February. We'll see. We'll see what happens there. I mean, Teofimo seems to place a premium on his value. And if he doesn't get it, he doesn't sound like a guy that's going to fight. So, Subriel Matias might be kind of just hanging off to the side. Like, there's something happening right now at 140 with what Goldenboy is doing. You've got on the undercard of Ryan Garcia and Oscar Duarte, the interim fight between O'Hara Davies and Ismael Barroso. That'll be for the interim 140-pound title while Rolly Romero figures out when he can fight again, or if he can fight again. It sure sounds like Goldenboy is going to try to direct Ryan Garcia that way. Like, put him in either with Rolly Romero in the spring of next year or the first quarter of next year, or perhaps if the WBA elevates the winner of Davies versus Barroso, that's the fight for Ryan Garcia. And then maybe you're talking in the summer the winner of Haney Progray versus Ryan Garcia. So, I think Matias is really good. I just think it's going to be a while before we see him in kind of a marquee fight because I don't think any of these top guys at 140 are going to be running to fight it because he does present a lot more risk right now than reward, even with the title around his waist. Yeah, and it's a shame for Matias because fighters who fight the way that he does, they tend to have relatively short shelf lives because even as he's waiting and fighting whoever, making his title defenses while he waits for those big names, it's taking a toll on his body, both in training camp and inside the ring with shots that he takes. And it may be that by the time he gets those fights that we've seen the best of Matias by the time that ever happens. But in the interim, I think that he can establish himself as kind of the premier action fighter of the day. You know, I think that there are fights out there at 140, you know, for the real sickos against, you know, names like… You say real sickos, like you're talking about your son. Like just like you can… Okay. Yeah. I'm talking about me. I'm talking about me. For me, make Matias and Klage because that's what I want to do. You are the only one. That's like, you're like the guy that's calling out for like Canelo Williams skull, right? Williams skull being Canelo's IBF mandatory. Absolutely. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's who you are right now calling for Matias Klage. It's me and like 500 Quebecois are hoping for this fight. But it's kind of the same thing with Jamal Charles. Like if you're Matias, if you can't get that marquee fight in the first half of 2024, you've got to be active in that first half. You've got to find a way to fight twice, right? Like you've got to keep building that name up. So as you start racking up these knockouts, eventually someone's going to have to turn to you and say, we want to put that guy on. Now, I don't know what his contract situation is. I know Matt Shroom was trying to sign in at one point, thought they were going to, but he could easily find himself on the Matt Shroom side of the street, which would make things a lot easier to get one of those big fights. But I think activity has got to be the key. Maybe that is a reason to sign with Matt Shroom. Matt Shroom's got the dates both in the US and the UK. He could very easily get two fights in the first half of 2024. But that to me is going to be what to watch for with Matias. He is a fun fighter, a talented fighter, a powerful fighter, but he's got to find a way to stay active. Let's talk about Katie Taylor. That had to get Chantel Cameron. That's one of those events, Corey, I wish I was at. Because that seemed like a lot of fun. Like, first of all, it was a great fight. Katie Taylor, Chantel Cameron to just a rock'em, sock'em, robot type of fight over in Dublin, Ireland. Katie Taylor winds up squeezing out a split decision. Majority decision winner. Is that what they call it? Too scared to majority decision win against Chantel Cameron. You know, this was like Katie Taylor digging deep one more time. You know, she came into this fight as the underdog. She made good adjustments. It was a close fight. It was a competitive fight. We can quibble about was it or was not a knockdown in the first round. Did Taylor do too much holding? But the reality is she dug deep and she got it done. I would still argue that the Serrano win was Katie Taylor's signature performance. Only because you kind of had that in-ring moment, right? The fifth round when Katie was just on Dream Street. When Samantha Serrano was administering the kind of beating you rarely see in women's boxing. We didn't see that in this one. But this win was every bit as important as that one. If Katie Taylor had lost this fight. Yeah, she could probably go back to 135 keep her career going, but I don't know. It would have been different. That's for sure. Where do you put this among the Katie Taylor performances? And what did you think of the fight? Man, I mean, I might even say that this was a better performance than the Serrano fight. Maybe if it wasn't quite there in terms of the moment. Because Taylor Serrano was really, really special at MSG. That's the best crowd that I've ever been in. And I would have loved to be there for Taylor Cameron too as well. And not even calling it. I wish that I were just somewhere near the ring with one of those Connor McGregor non-alcoholic beers that were the main sponsor of this event. Just enjoying it because that atmosphere was nuts as well. Yeah, I think that this one might have been a little bit better. I think that maybe because she didn't face that kind of adversity. There wasn't that low point in the fight and also, you know, fighting above maybe where she's fully comfortable. And it also for me was special because it looked like Katie's body was breaking down over the last couple of fights. I know that you had been in camp with her and you know, I had talked to Katie about kind of the knee troubles and I think she had some foot issues and ankle issues. When you see Katie in recent fights standing in a corner between rounds, not sitting on the stool. That's because of leg issues, cramp issues. Like if she in the past, if she had sat down, it would have made her legs cramp up. And if you're Katie Taylor, you rely on a lot of bounce. That could have been a big problem. Yeah, and to see that bounce return in this fight. I mean was phenomenal, but also it says a lot about how much that Taylor potentially has left. I think the difference as you put it, you know, she could have lost this fight and gone back to 135. But winning this fight or not was the difference between this being the Katie Taylor retirement tour or how much can Katie Taylor enhance her legacy now? Because now, you know, that version of Katie Taylor, you pick her over a whole bunch of different names. And maybe you start thinking about going up to 147 to pick up a belt there too. I mean, the options are all over the place. I don't know about that. I don't know, 147, I don't know. Are you going to go fight McCaskill again at 147? Maybe, right? Sandy Ryan or no, I don't know. That may, I think Katie has reached her weight maximum. She was, and look, Chantel Cameron had fought lower than 140 before. So it's not like Chantel's, yeah, she wasn't a Goliath. But Katie is a 135 pounder. Yeah, she could fight McCaskill because McCaskill, she already beat McCaskill when McCaskill's at 135. I just don't know what the, you know, Katie right now is a money weight fighter. And you know, whether that's at 135 or 140, that's where she's most likely going to stay, which leads me to the next question. Like Katie immediately after the fight said she wanted to do a trilogy fight with Chantel Cameron in Croke Park in Ireland. Now, Croke Park is a massive stadium in Ireland. 80,000 fans in Dublin can watch that fight. It was where the Matchroom team originally wanted to bring the first fight against Cameron, which was originally supposed to be the rematch with Amanda Serrano. Things didn't work out, government issues, safety issues, a lot of things were going on with Croke Park at that time. It sure sounds like Matchroom's going to push pretty hard to get Katie's next fight in Croke Park. Now, Katie said Chantel Cameron, but Eddie Hearn afterwards was like, well, still got Amanda Serrano out there. Let's not forget how good that fight was at Madison Square Garden. Cory, I'm of the opinion that this should be a no brainer. Like Chantel Cameron was was an excellent fight and Chantel Cameron is an excellent fighter, but she's like, I don't want to call her an opponent because that's that's disrespectful to Chantel Cameron, but she's she was brought in because of her titles. Katie wanted to fight the undisputed champion at 140. She wanted a big fight in a marquee event. Amanda Serrano, it doesn't matter what belt she has. Amanda Serrano is a star in her own right. You know, that night at MSG, there were a lot of Irish fans there, but the other half were Puerto Rican fans that were there supporting Amanda Serrano. So she brings her own fan base to the table, her own visibility, you know, pound for pound lists, you know, Katie, Amanda, Clarissa Shields, pick your boys, all three of them, those women at the top. I just think it's a much smarter play to get that Serrano fight over the line. I don't know why it kind of fell off the radar, you know, in recent months. Obviously, Katie wanted to avenge her loss to Chantel Cameron, but now is the time to revisit that. I don't know what Amanda's plans are early in 2024, but they got to figure that out because it's Serrano Taylor to me is a much bigger fight than Taylor Cameron three. I just don't I think it's almost apples and oranges at this point. Yeah. I mean, Serrano is the bigger fight. Serrano is the bigger star. Serrano will also bring, you know, you hate to insert, you know, Jake Paul in every conversation about women's boxing here, but he will bring something to the table in terms of the promotion of that fight as well. And that will be an element. It creates a bigger event. But I mean, I'm happy with either of these fights happening next. I mean, these are, I mean, at least according to Ring Magazine, Serrano and Cameron are two of the four best pound for pound women in the sport right now. And Taylor has wins over both of them. Like she is an extraordinarily accomplished athlete, you know, a once in a generation trailblazer for women's boxing. And I genuinely think she does want a rematch with both of these women. I think that she means it when she feels like she owes a rematch to Chantel Cameron, you know, kind of for saving that event the first time, you know, for giving her the rematch the second time. And that's one of the things that's very unique and very beautiful about Katie and how she's approached the sport. I think that she really does see herself as kind of a servant to the industry of women's boxing and to the sport of boxing. So I believe her when she says she wants that rematch, but I'm happy with either outcome. You know, one might be marginally bigger than the other, but I think that Katie on her own is going to be able to damn near fill Croke Park regardless of who's across the ring from her. Yeah, I think you're just running on a clock here on the Serrano fight. Both these women are in their mid soon to be late 30s. You want that fight to take place while it's viable. Now feels like the time for that to happen. I mean, does Amanda Serrano like, look, it was nice that she got those three minute rounds. Great. You know, that was a landmark moment for women's boxing. I personally think a fight against Amanda and Sky Nicholson is interesting. Sky's built a nice little profile over the UK. I think that's a reasonably competitive fight or at least a natural fight for a man to surround. But this is the big one, right? Like Amanda, like I know there's been some talk about Amanda moving up to fight Alicia Baumgart. I think Baumgart is going to figure her own stuff out first and get past these these drug allegations that are out there. I think you got to find a way to make that fight that fight right now with Katie coming off a win with Amanda doing what she's doing. That fight is massive. Once again, I think you've got to find a way to to ultimately make that fight happen. Hopefully in Croke Park in in twenty twenty four. All right. Let's talk about the fight we've got this weekend. You got Ryan Garcia back. First fight back since his loss to Gervonta Davis. First fight as you know, he's fought at 140 before, but this is a true junior welterweight fight. He's now campaigning at 140 pounds. He's facing Oscar Duarte, who is 135 pounder on 11 fight winning streak. All 11 of those fights have come by knockout. I've heard some people say, Corey, that they are almost stunned that Ryan Garcia took this fight against Oscar Duarte. They expected a much easier fight for Garcia coming back from from the Gervonta fight. What do you think? Is this is this fight as dangerous as some have suggested or are we giving Oscar Duarte too much credit? I think this is good matchmaking. And I think that Ryan Garcia is really benefiting from this narrative that it is a tougher matchup than it should be. You know, from the the conspiracy that Golden Boy is putting Duarte in there to beat him, that they want to get Garcia beat like all of this. If the fight plays out the way I think it's going to play out is just going to benefit Garcia. I think that the pendulum has kind of swung too far in the other direction. Whereas early in Garcia's career and even up to the Gervonta Davis fight, there was always the there was the allegation that he was matched too soft. Like, oh, he hasn't fought anyone yet, you know, because his popularity outpaced his achievements, which is no fault of his own. That's good marketing. Garcia is popular for things other than being a boxer and outside of boxing. That's just the way that it was. But the reality is, I think that Garcia is probably his fifth best win is better than Duarte's best win. And Duarte is a good fighter, but he's not nearly as accomplished as Garcia is. And I also think that the style matchup is excellent for Ryan. I think that when Garcia has struggled, it's been kind of in those between periods between, you know, as he shifted with trainers. I don't think that the the goose and partnership was was ultimately ideal. And Garcia also has a little bit of trouble and get a little bit overanxious, as we saw against Tank Davis, although that's obviously a special beast that he was in there with on that night. When Garcia has to pursue someone, he can get a little bit sloppy. That's not going to happen in this fight. I mean, Duarte is the kind of opponent that Garcia feasts upon, which is someone that's going to come at him and wants to trade left hooks. And when you trade left hooks with Ryan Garcia, it's a very, very dangerous proposition. So I think that optically, this is a great looking matchup for Garcia. But I think the reality of it is just very good matchmaking. I see a Garcia knockout in this fight. And because of the way that we're talking about this, it'll benefit him greatly on the back end. Like, oh, Garcia took this dangerous test coming off of Tank Davis. And, you know, is it more dangerous than he had to take? Yes, but I don't think that this is as big of a threat to Garcia as maybe people are thinking. Yeah, I think two things can be true. One, I think this is a more dangerous comeback fight than maybe we could have seen. Now, I think the runner up for this fight was Pedro Campa, who was most recently in the comeback fight for Teofilo Lopez. That is a comeback fight. You know, Pedro Campa is a guy that's been in with some good fighters, doesn't have a lot of quality wins and doesn't have fight changing power. That's the kind of guy you want to put your top fighter in with when they're trying to kind of begin the rebuilding process. But I do agree with you. Oscar Duarte is a really fun fighter, but he's a guy that makes a lot of mistakes. And I know that because I've called a lot of his fights in the last few years. He comes in a little bit reckless. He likes to kind of go to war with you. And it's one thing to try to go to war with like Alex Martin and DeAngelo Keys. It's another thing to do with Ryan Garcia. And because of that, it just seems like he is almost a perfect fit to get hit with a left hook, like one and maybe won't go down the way that Romero Duno went down or Francisco Fonseca went down. But Ryan still could have a lot of power with that left hook and the hardest, most dangerous punches out there are the ones you don't see. And I have a feeling that at some point we're going to see Duarte walk into a big fight. That's why I never really believe the whole narrative about like, you know, Golden Boy trying to get Ryan beat. No, I think Golden Boy is trying to make Ryan look good here. And yeah, there's some risk to it. But if he goes out and stops Duarte like the fourth round, like puts him down with a big shot that winds up getting viewed 10 million times on social media, then Ryan can make the argument that like, I'm still the man out there like I'm the guy that did over a million pay-per-view buys with tag Davis. I'm the guy that's selling tickets. I'm the guy that's doing ratings. I'm the guy that's getting these big-time knockouts. All you guys with titles. You're coming to me like I think that enhances Ryan Garcia's art. That's why I think this is the right opponent is a dangerous opponent because look, here's the facts Ryan's coming off a loss his first loss a knockout loss. He's working with a new trainer. So there's going to be an adjustment period there. So I don't want to diminish the danger. But while I acknowledge the danger, I do think this is a opponent that Ryan could look really, really good against if if he's patient and does things the right way. I mean, I'm very curious to see what the Derek James imprint is going to be. Like I said, I went down to Dallas. We're going to hear from Ryan Garcia coming up in just a couple of minutes. I went down there and look Ryan is like he's living in a nice place, but it's not some luxury pad that he's living in. He doesn't really do anything just kind of hangs out there plays video games and you know, hangs with his family is his immediate family and others and then goes to the gym. And so I think he's in the right headspace now to kind of begin this next chapter. One of the questions I have about Ryan is that look, it's one thing to spend four months in Texas working out for a comeback fight. Are you ready to spend four years down there? Like are you prepared to give up that LA lifestyle and all the things that came with it to just focus on boxing right now he is and I think that's going to yield some positive results down the line. We'll see what happens but I am and I'm pretty enthusiastic about how Ryan Garcia is going to look when he comes back. Yeah, and I like the Derek James partnership to you know, when you look at the the fighters that Derek James primarily works with and has molded over the years that there's one kind of commonality that you often see which is that they are responsible power punchers. And I think that that is precisely what Garcia needs to be, you know, chiseled into, you know, we've seen flashes of that, you know, like I thought like a really good version of Ryan Garcia was in that Luke Campbell fight, you know, aside from that knockdown, you know, just you know, he was jabbing a little bit more and he walked his opponent into the shot that he wanted and he's going to have that opportunity against Juarte. He'll also have the opportunity to get a little bit reckless. So I think that this is not only is it a perfect opponent because I think he's going to win but I think that it's a style that if Garcia hasn't made both the technical and mental adjustments could put him in those dangerous scenarios where we'd see whether he's made those adjustments or not. But again, I think that this is this is just good matchmaking and I think that the the optics of this being a dangerous opponent that was also important for Garcia marketing wise too because he spent the entirety of the build up to the Tank Davis fight talking about how a fighters these days don't want to take risks. I'm willing to take them. I'm willing to take losses. I don't care. So it was important that the narrative around this fight be exactly what it is. So I think that I mean if this is golden boy trying to get Garcia beat, I mean, they've done a masterful job of doing the opposite in terms of what they wanted to do, which is, you know, just make Garcia look good in terms of who he's chosen. And again, if this fight goes away, I think it will making them look good in the ring to look if they were trying to get Ryan Garcia beat. What the hell are they doing signing O'Hara Davies? Like golden boy doesn't do British shows like why would they want O'Hara Davies on their roster? Oh, yeah. I know why because O'Hara Davies, you know in a couple of days might wind up being the 140 pound champion and Ryan's made it clear. He wants to fight for a world title at some point in 2024. There you have you might have a guy on your roster who is good, but not great that you can put up against Ryan Garcia. I never bought the idea that golden boy was trying to get a beat to somehow manipulate his contract or lower his, you know, his pay like that doesn't make any sense. Not with a fighter like Ryan Garcia who is just he transcends that like he's just bigger than that. You know, he's he's a moneymaker for that company. I don't know why they would ever want to see him go down in a fight like that. All right, Corey will be back on Friday in Houston. Check it out. Where is that fight? Anyway, I'm going but I don't what's the venue for that fight? Do we know it's at the Owl's Nest a brand new facility? Yeah, brand new facility in Houston at 1500 seed very intimate venue. No bad seats in the house. You're going to enjoy it. If you're down there, if you're down in Houston for the Ryan Garcia, if I come a day early get down to the Owl's Nest, I'll be there. Corey will be there. The Sam Katkowski spectacular. We're calling it down to the Owl's Nest Saturday. I'll be back on the zone for Ryan Garcia against Oscar Duarte part of the subscription. No pay-per-view for that fight. So that's great for fight fans out there as well. Corey. Good stuff, man. And good luck this weekend. We'll see you in a day. All right. So recently I flew down to Dallas Texas where Ryan Garcia has decamped in preparation for this fight his first training camp with Derek James the notable trainer who works with Anthony Joshua Errol Spence, Jermell Charlo among others and I had a chance to spend some some quality time some good amount of time with Ryan Garcia. We got into a lot of topics during our conversation. We talked about the loss to Gervonta Davis why he felt he needed to leave LA which he described to me as a toxic situation what he's gained from being in Dallas and kind of what he hopes to accomplish as it begins this new chapter of his career. I thought it was a really good conversation with Ryan looking forward to everyone out there hearing it. So with no further ado, here's my conversation with Ryan Garcia back in the ring back on the zone new trainer new weight class new home here in Dallas, Texas. How are you feeling about everything? I'm feeling great. It's been a great change for me. Definitely feel more focused more committed to the sport more dedicated. It feels like just like the thing I needed. Why did you need it? I think a year and a half layoffs and just all the time that I would take outside the sport really didn't help my focus in boxing and I kind of lost like that that Supreme Focus you need in boxing and that dedication and that commitment to the sport and this right here really showed me what it's like to go 100% again in focus and focus for boxing. So this is exactly what I need to know in Dallas is perfect. You keep your focus and it's all training. So you didn't make a subtle change. You made radical changes. You moved picked up your life and moved to Texas made a change with your head coach. When did you know that you needed to make such a radical change? Well, just the environment I was in you're in a toxic environment. It's just not going to work out for you. So it was just in my spirit to take, you know change things all the way and I just let God guide me and he guided me to Dallas Texas and with a great trainer like Derek and I could see my difference, you know, my focus and my commitment and just things that I'm like, wow, you know, I should have been doing this a minute ago, but but it is what it is. Sometimes you need to lose and sometimes you need to hit rock bottom to realize the changes you need to make and I think that's what's going to make me great and show people who I am is just how I bounce back. It's not easy to lose but you know great champions come back. Toxic is a powerful word you use there. Why was it a toxic environment for you? It was toxic because LA, you know, people want to be around famous people. There's a lot of distractions. Even the gym I was at, you know, it's kind of a celebrity gym in a way and things weren't locked in like a training camp. In hindsight looking back it was like wow, like being here and just being in just that full focus mode there's a huge difference. I just my dedication just wasn't there. It wasn't there and when you take those long layoffs, you don't realize it because you think you know, you're just going with the motions like, okay, I got all get ready for a fight, but it's not just a fight. It's it's everything you need to put everything into boxing. You can't just you know, think you're going to pick up some gloves and perform. Well don't work like that. You need to grind. So what's changed over the last eight months that you've been mostly here in Texas? Just my commitment and my dedication, my focus towards the sport in itself and being committed to Derek's training and what he wants me to do and giving my whole effort into boxing like I was in 2020 and the years that I was thriving, you know before all the long layoffs. So I feel like that focus is that a focus I haven't felt for a while. I'm like, okay, this feels nice. Like finally like I'm I know what I'm doing in the ring again. Thank God, you know what I mean? It feels like that when especially when you put everything into it. I've always had the talent but when you don't have the focus, it doesn't really matter. You spent years pushing for and calling for that Gervonta Davis fight. I know it's not a simple question to answer, but what went wrong for you in that fight? I think a ton of things went wrong for me in that fight. I think the first one was the layoff of the year and some change. I really wanted to fight him in October after Fortuna when I felt like my momentum was there. A lot of things killed that for me. And then my eagerness to fight him so bad messed me up because then I didn't take the tuna with mercito. I didn't want to ruin the chances to fight him. And all the stipulations, you know, I don't want to go back to that. You know, like I said, I signed it so it doesn't matter but those really do have an effect on me. I thought I could get around it. But no, fighting in that state is not fun. You don't have the energy and you can't do what you want to do. So a lot of things were wrong. But again, we're now focused on just becoming the champion. That big fight was great. It did really well. But now I want to become a champion, establish myself as a champion at 140 and build from there and hopefully run that back because I know I'm capable of beating them in different circumstances. You've said that a lot, becoming a champion. You've emphasized that a lot over the last couple of months. That's not something I heard you emphasize before. Before it was you want big fights, but maybe for different reasons. What has changed that makes you want that championship now so bad? Well, I just had a plan in my head since I was coming into the professional rankings. I want everybody to know my name at first. I want people to see my talent, see what I can do. Build the big fights and have spectacular events. And now, I've been boxing since I was seven years old. I feel like I deserve to give myself a chance to become a champion. I was the best in the amateurs. I won a lot of national titles and I feel like I'm seeking and I'm longing for a championship title now. I want to be able to see me like, okay, he's not only a superstar, but he's also a champion. He also can be the best. Okay, he's not just a kid that knows how to market himself. He's actually a person that took the sport serious and became a champion and did it all, really. So, I want to show people I can do it all. If you want me to go full focus mode, you're about to see something different.

"There's going to be a huge, I think it's going to be a huge shift in the W at that moment because it won't just be the influx of money for whoever buys the rights to the W, it will also be paired with a necessity of storytelling and mythologizing and I don't use that word to be like, let's just make everyone sound amazing, but I mean like truly what mythologizing is is like helping us understand where we've been. And I would love to be a part of what I think is going to be that shift in the women's game coming up because I just think I've been so inspired by writing hoop muses, I I've always loved reading and learning about history, but I've been really blindsided in the best possible way by how many truly thrilling women have existed in history in our game. And how they deserve to have these really cool stories told. So I guess that would kind of be the dream would be to create a show that backfilled in a really, really entertaining, interesting, joyful way, our game, because we're like no longer at that place where we would have to we just got to beg people to tune in. We kind of have this solid foundation of the WBA's here, right? We're good. Can we now go back and tell the stories that should have been told so people understand how we got to today? That's something I'm really invested in now. Well, and I kind of feel like we're at a point where and I know aria, we talk about this all the time. I feel like we're at a point where those opportunities are just the right around the corner. Those things are coming. Those shows are coming. You know, someone to compete, you know, against the ESPN's of the world. Like, I just, I get the feeling that this is right around the corner in terms of just that type of coverage that you're talking about. That's the sense I get. So I agree with you on that. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I would say even like you see it in the shoe game, right? We talk about Nike doing the air swoops and Adidas investing in the women's players in puma also, but then someone and I always jokingly, but seriously say, the real motto of WNBA fans is if it will do it ourselves. Because mula kicks, making shoes for the women's basketball players, as opposed to waiting for these major companies to do it the right way. Okay, well, if you're not going to do it, we're going to go do it ourselves. Shameless plug. That's how wind insiders started. That's how her hoop stats started. That's how the next started in just women's sports. And I think it's been amazing to watch. Obviously, we all live in this bubble because, you know, all of the people that we talk to and are good friends are in it with us. So I never fully know, do I think we're close because I see it more on my timeline or are we close because it's truly getting bigger and bigger, I think it's a combo of both. But we've kept you for long enough. I know I'm very excited. All of our listeners are super excited for the release of this book march 7th. Get your copy. Like I said, I've been reading it daily. I've read over multiple stories. The artwork is insane. The stories are insane. I'm not, this is not even like, oh, you're our guest, so I have to be kind about this. This is actually the greatest book I've ever seen in my life. Kate, can you please tell people where they can buy it, pre order it, buy it again, send it as gifts and anywhere else. Yeah, well, thank you for that. That really is I'm excited for its release and it is really kind of you to share those very positive words about it. So right now in my Instagram handle because it's impossible to tell people a link over audio. But I'm at Kate fagan three on Instagram and I have a pre order link there because you can pre order the book through this specific local distributor. I mean, they're a local bookshop. They may not be your local bookshop, but rest assured it is a local bookshop. And Sophia and I have signed Sophia created four bookmarks from the book and we signed them so that anybody who pre orders the book, it's like a randomly selected bookmark. So you could pre order the book there, and then otherwise, wherever you get your books. I mean, obviously I would hopefully bookshop dot org is a place like Amazon, but it supports local bookshops. But if you need to buy it through Amazon, I guess I'd rather you buy it than not buy it, and that is often the easiest, but please, if you have a local bookshop by it there. I just want to say to be completely upfront and honest. The moment I saw this was coming out at pre ordered it. So right. I'm not just sitting here, you know. Well, smoke or anything. Like, I am full fledged. In support of this, we are truly, truly appreciative of your time. I know you're super busy. And thank you for sharing your wisdom and your basketball thoughts. Yeah, thank you both for having me on and for a fun conversation.

"And Buenos Aires. Ten years after Lou de Bella said absolutely not her Sergio Martinez gets get out of golf and maybe they would make it. If you ever want to have some fun and you're a boxing fan, check out the WBA's monthly rankings. I remember doing this when when Alexis Rocha was going to fight George ashy and as she was the late replacement for roach, I started thinking like, who is ashy? I'm doing my research on him. And I look at the WBA rankings in December and George Ashe, who had zero fights as in the full 147 pound division. He fought above one 40 once, but he fought a guy that was in the one 50s, making that fight officially a junior middleweight fight. Zero official fights at a 147 pounds, he was ranked. I think 13th by the WBA in their rankings and Alexis Rocha, a career long welterweight was not ranked in the WBA rankings. Like, how are these put together? Just pulling names out of a hat? Like, I just, I can't. I can't. Surgeon Martinez. Number two, at one 60, Sergio Martinez, despite fighting a succession of stumble bombs in his return to boxing. Great. Bring on golovkin Sergio Martinez for the WBA middleweight title in Buenos Aires. I'm just saying, if there's someone in Argentina willing to pay for it, what either of us be surprised that eventually wound up. Even if even if glove can doesn't have the title, I mean, it's much more meaningful for Martinez if he does, but I don't want to see it. And for the health of Sergio Martinez, even against a 41 year old golovkin or 42, whenever it might happen, it's not a good idea, but that doesn't generally stop them. You probably got the exact same phone calls I did from Lou de Bella back then when golovkin was chasing Sergio and Lou would say, absolutely not, I'm not putting my guy in with that guy. No chance on earth, it would be fitting Keith that with both guys well past 40 to see them finally square off. And Lou's not involved in Sergio Martinez's career anymore so he's not there to put a stop to that. Nope. I don't know if I want to see that. Keith, enjoy covering the fight this weekend from the comforts of home, I assume you're not going to be jumping on Amtrak or anything like that. No, sir. Try to make your way to Minnesota. All right, so I took another one on the chin last week. I don't feel as bad about that loss as I felt about the one prior two weeks ago. I should have known better than to take ray Vargas against those shacky foster Vargas was physically bigger, but a Shaggy foster was the natural one 30. That one, that's gonna sting. Last week, plus three 70 for Lee wood. He was winning that fight. All through 6 rounds, got caught with a monster punch and that was the ball game. So you win some you lose some, I don't mind betting a big dog on that one because I think it was worth the risk. This week, I'm looking at the 140 pound division world title fight, sabriel Matthias, Jeremiah Ponce. This fight is in Minnesota. It is for a vacant title at junior welterweight. Look, I can't bet against Matthias in this one. Both these guys are rough and tumble guys. It's going to be an absolute war for as long as it lasts. Matthias right now -400 according to FanDuel. I gotta go with that bet. Matthias to win feels like a pretty safe place to put your money. I think Matthias is one of the most powerful 140 pounders that we've not only seen in boxing today. We've seen in quite some time. So I think Mattis is going to win. I also think he's going to win by knockout. Minus one 60, according to FanDuel is what Matthias is. The odds are from Matthias by knockout. I think that's a safe bet too. You're not going to win a ton of money, making this bet, but if you want to bet big, I feel very confident that Matthias wins and Matthias wins by knockout. Back on track this week in the win column. "To be difficult for him to command the type of money that he, you know, I know he didn't quite make as much as he had hoped in his deal with the zone or that he felt he was owed, but he made a lot of money. And it's going to be hard to get another broadcast partner to pay him that type of money when he's 40 going on 41. And coming off of what was a decisive Canelo algorithm his last fight. So I don't know. It's tricky because he does have the middleweight three middleweight titles, I guess, but now it's going to be hard for him to command the type of money that he wants. And that's why we haven't heard much since the since the Canelo fight, which is I guess four months ago now. So I don't know what he does. It certainly doesn't seem possible for him to go back to his own based on the way their relationship ended. And some of the things that he said certainly doesn't seem interested in that, but maybe if he finds that he doesn't have the type of interest that he thought he would, maybe he would go back to the zone, but then he's going to have to fight some of the people that for whatever reason did not want to fight him or he didn't want to fight while Android's gone, so that doesn't matter. Much to your dismay, Android is gone, but so I don't know. It's a great question, but there are appealing middleweight fights for him, but will he be paid what he wants to be paid for those types of fights. Yeah, and at some point his mandatories are gonna come do, right? He's got an IBS mandatory, and that's one of the few sanctioning bodies that presumably will enforce it. The WBA belt, I mean, I guess at some point, they're going to call him to fight Aerys landy Lara for that title. Neither of those fights are going to generate any kind of purse of significance for golovkin. Like those are very, very, I mean, not bad fights like in the ring necessarily, but they're not revenue drivers. It's going to be a tough sell on a pay per view or any other platform to do those fights. To me, Keith, I think he's got to find a way to get in the ring with mangia to bring mongeau back into this conversation. I know that golden boy has reached out to golovkin's team. Right now there doesn't seem to be a lot of interest and I can't quite figure out why. Because to me, it's kind of coin flippy with mongi and golovkin at this point, but it's not like mongeau is like this world beater like he's available to be hit and if golovkin can still hit, he has a chance to have success in a fight like that. It would be a fight. I know zone would be extremely interested in putting on either on the platform or on pay per view. And it would probably generate the highest payday for gennady at this time, unless I mean, unless there's a deal with PBC for Jamal Charlotte, I haven't heard much about that that generates more. I don't know why golovkin would want that fight over among geophyte at this point. It doesn't really register with me there. So I guess for me, I just don't know why he's not running towards a Mongolia fight. Maybe it's his issues with his own, maybe to issues, I don't know, dealing with matchroom in the past, though matchroom wouldn't necessarily have to be involved with magia. But that's a fight that doesn't that just make a lot of sense for Gennady Golovkin at this stage?
A University of Alabama basketball player has been charged with murder
"The university of Alabama's men's basketball coach says the team is grieving for the victim after a player and another man were charged with capital murder. Deepest condolences to the family and friends of Jamaica janae Harris. "Hubcaps. They're all hubcaps, manics. There's only one champion. There should be only one one. But this is what I'm talking about. Boots Ennis should be the IVF 147 pound champion. The winner of standing onis Ortiz, probably going to take place in April. That fighter should be the 147 pound champion for the WBA. Whatever's happened to the WBC, they don't got a specific mandatory and I think Keith Thurman is number one in the WBC's rankings there. But they should do number two versus number three. Three versus number four for that belt. And I've spent wants to come back down and fight for him. He gets the right to do whatever he wants then. But we both know it's unlikely we see Spence at one 47 again and these sanctioning bodies are just screwing over these other fighters. Yeah, a lot of people are to blame the sanctioning bodies, the politics, the networks. There are so many, so many on this subject though, sanctioning bodies. I say this all the time. Sanctioning bodies should be good for boxing. You should be trying to elevate other fighters. Yeah, but not just clinging to the biggest fee. No, but here's the thing. Their opinions, the sanctioning bodies opinions, they could be swayed with money with dates with course they can. So everyone gets suede, it's business as usual and that's not what the charter should be for them. That's not what they should be about. No, it's not, but that's what it is. And wouldn't you be pissed off your boots? I would be absolutely just no. Like why am I why is boots and it's fighting for an interim belt where the guy that holds the belt? Who is a fighter that for a long time, he had a number one mandatory. He's sued in one. Who was it? I don't know who that was. But Charlotte's mandatory with the IVF. I don't think this guy is, he's been taking step aside money for like three years. Okay, but you can actually sue and win these lawsuits because that's what fighters need to start doing. That's what fighters that are number one position that aren't getting their shots they actually take the sanctioning bodies to court and they will win because the proof is there the contracts are there and if you're extending it and extending it and you're not taking step aside money, that's it. Pay me my money and that's how you're going to get respect. Get out of the way. Operate in an ethical way. This is not operating an ethical way by allowing spends to keep all these titles. Like if you want to fight a one 47 and keep the titles by all means, do it, but if you're going to go to one 54, all these other guys should get the opportunity. This, by the way, is why golden boy paid so much money to get the Ortiz standing on his fight because they know that whoever wins that secondary title, pretty good chance that guy winds up as the full champion at one 47. And then you can do a whole bunch of different things. You can push for a boots satisfied. You can look for other opportunities at one 47. Secondary titles have ruined the meaning of champion. All these belts have watered down the word champion. And there used to be respectable belts. You know, the green belt. That was like the one everyone wanted. One of the oldest ones. You had. Yeah, and now they're walking a fine line as well.

"He had to give up the WBA belt that he won from chocolatito regardless of how you had that decision. He said, you know, once I get this belt back, I want to get all the belts. So there is a straight shot. You went to view Joshua Franco after the fight. He's going to Tokyo to fight because the WBA and WB or belts are on the line. I know for a fact Joshua Franco absolutely wants to fight all those guys. Damn knows this because he was willing to let Joshua fight Gaia and chocolatito ahead of him. He's even given up the belt that was at stake last weekend. So if Joshua Franco wins, the matter is then can mister Honda convince June sona katani, who's going to be owed the winner because of W mandatory.

"Up about 1% on the day, the NASDAQ composite higher by roughly 89 points or about 8 to 9 cents of a percent. The Russell 2000, which had actually been a relative outperformer in previous rallies, only up about 5 tenths of a percent here on the day, but I think a lot of folks will take that curl. All right, remember we're going to get into the individual groups in terms of what really outperformed. But if you look at the S&P 500, big broad picture here, you definitely saw more risk on more broad based buying 370 names in the S&P 500. Actually, Taylor hire on the day, 132 lower one unchanged. So investors were out there buying. And you really saw that on the sector level as well, Carol, take a look at where we are. And wow, if this is a wild composition, I'm going to give you this. It's software and services, it's media. It's semiconductors, but energy in transportation are also rallying on the day. So you're sort of getting in everything mode today. Those are all up at least one and a quarter of a percent and higher. Down on the bottom, there were a few losers today, even though relatively it was sort of a big day here for those who are rooting for the green on the screen. Real estate and utilities to the downside and some auto components as well when you think about Tesla as well, dropping on the day. All right, I know we're waiting some earnings, but just quickly I want to go through some of the outstanding performers if you will. Some of the bullish trades here, meta platforms up about 6 and a half percent building on that 2% gain that that got on Friday, top of the NASDAQ 100, planning to begin layoffs that will affect thousands of workers from this week. This is coming from The Wall Street Journal and that they could come as early as Wednesday. So investors thinking that this may be a good thing in terms of cutting some of the overhead and cost, but nonetheless, that was an outperformer. Beatrice viatris remained you know how do you say this? No, I'm not sure, but I saw the rally. It was interesting because it was actually lower in the pre market and then a lot of folks took a look at it and said, this is actually good. Up to 15%. Yeah, exactly. It was up as much as almost 18%. Top of the S&P 500 drugmaker announcing plans to divest more units and acquire two ophthalmology treatments and companies to reshape the company. So kind of a re jig on that one. And then WBA, we're talking about Walgreens boots up about 4% interesting. This stock up after the company raised its U.S. healthcare segments 2025 sales goal, and that's after village MD in which Walgreens has a stakes that it was acquiring some in health city MD and a transaction valued at 8.9 billion. So a little bit of moving parts there, but nonetheless, outperformance for WBA Paul. Yeah, on the losing side of the equation today, card finds some losers in such a strong tape, but we found a few Dominion Energy, three Wall Street downgrades as the electricity and natural gas distributor said it is beginning a review of its business and Wall Street's a little bit skeptical of what this company might do. Generic, you think about it. And the CFO left as well too. Yeah, which is exactly a good sign. Yeah, exactly. Always a warning sign rack. Boy, I love my generic generator. I got it. Two weeks before superstorm, sandy. So I was a very popular person in my neighborhood. Anyway, the company still dealing with the fallout from some weak earnings recently. That's hurt the stock. Wall Street has been taking down price targets across the board. Today credit Swiss lowered its price target to a $165 for a $181 there, so continued fallout. And then our good friends at Tesla, the stock is still under pressure as investors feel that Elon Musk may be distracted by all the ongoing saga at Twitter, the midterm elections tomorrow, just adding fuel to the fire over at Twitter and I guess investors there in Elon's car company a little bit nervous. Let's take a look at the rates market as we wrap up this day's trading and push forward to some of the quarterly results. I know that Carol was starting to already get a trickle feed from. You're up 6 to 7 basis points pretty much all the way across the curve a four 73 on that two year yield. Now definitely brings you back to the highest that we haven't seen since 2007, a deep inversion still on twos tens further out, but we've been highlighting the three month ten year, which had actually popped back into positive territory, and it is really a lift on that long end that is notable today all the way across the curve Carol. All right, Taylor, thank you so much. Let's go to TripAdvisor. Just up a hair here in the aftermarket. So third quarter adjusted EBITDA, we're talking about a 115 million the estimate that's a beat folks. 102.3 million was the estimate among Wall Street analysts, third quarter revenue, 459 million versus four 43.2 million. Again, our performance third quarter adjusted EPS 28 cents a share. That looks like that's a miss by about a dime. And they also talk about some of their costs. So a third quarter stock based compensation, 22 million versus an estimate of 23.5. This stock now down about 5% in the after hours. It's been on a tear. I should say since about mid July roommate. Absolutely. And I think there's going to be a lot more focus on cost we've heard from a lot of analysts and market strategists who basically said, this isn't about growth anymore. This isn't even about profit margins per se. That's really about how companies moving forward sort of lean out if they need to. But the general sense here, or at least in the markets is that a lot of these companies need to. They're highlighting profitability as well in that statement. I will just bring you actually, we're getting some lift results out. So I'm going to pivot and let you digest those. The big red head on the terminal here. Third quarter adjusted EBITDA, 66.2 million estimates had been for 63 million, and while look at this fourth quarter adjusted EBITDA, they're now seen anywhere from 80 to $100 million, estimates had been for 91.7 million. Let's get away from the profitability and focus on sort of the actual results that we got romaine. Third quarter revenue, 1.05 billion, estimates for 1.06 billion, so right there on the line. Third quarter adjusted net revenue, I'm assuming that is 36.7 million estimates for 28.1 million. You're also getting third quarter active writers a little bit of a miss here 20.3 million estimates for 21.1 million. And that forward guidance fourth quarter next revenue right here online 1.15 billion to 1.17 estimates had been for 1.16. And again, that fourth quarter adjusted EBITDA number that we got had looked like a good number. And I think it was interesting too. You talk about the charges per mile up about 28% in the month of September. That's on a monthly basis here. So some of those price increases that we had seen apparently are sticking a little bit longer, some other earnings also crossing the wire real quickly. Let's turn to Activision, blizzard, the video game company, coming in with three Q adjusted EPS of 68 cents, a higher than the street estimate at consensus estimate of 50 cents. Here's your guidance

"Canelo fighting bivouac next assuming he beats triple G in September, I don't know that I don't know that it matters. In my opinion, I don't know that it matters all that much. Which one he fights as long as you just wins the fight, you know, because I think people are going to be just as interested in him fighting Canelo, whether he were to be all in between, I mean, whether he would be watching in between or whether he would be certo in between. I don't know, I don't know that it matters all that. I think they're kind of comparable in the level of challenge that they would present for bivouac. Maybe he's a little tough for fight because he said he's bigger and he's a southpaw and everything. But so maybe it's a little tougher fight, but again, from a business standpoint, as I mentioned earlier, it does, I think it does pretty big business in the UK and they are trying to grow the zone brand out there. But. Counting on the WBA to do the right thing. I mean, what are we talking about? As long as wherever the WBA can get the largest sanctioning free and walk away from it with the most money, I think is what they would do. But how do you declare someone the mandatory and then say that it doesn't need to be enforced? Now, they do a lot of crazy things that don't make any sense to normal people. So I guess it's possible that they won't do that, but it's what they should do, just get served as title shot. And I think they've all beats him and then hopefully we see the Canelo rematch, I guess. I mean, because assuming canala beats triple G in the third fight, where else does Canelo go besides that, it involves undefeated, so as the WBA title, one thing I don't think he would do, Chris, as you mentioned earlier, I don't think under any circumstances Dmitry bibba gives up his title.

"Are you willing capable and medically able to make that weight and be effective? If the answer is yes, then give it another go because like you said, he's in a position where he's, I think he's number one in the WBA rankings where he's, you know, in a position to be in a world title fight at some point in the very near future. If he goes to one 54, that process probably doesn't start entirely over because he does have credibility from what he is doing in recent fights at welterweight where he's just blitzed everybody and not elite elite competition, but pretty solid guys for the last couple of years. Remember, he was when he started out for the first several years of his career. He was a jeer welterweight. And then he ended up moving up to welterweight. He really hasn't been a welterweight for all that long. So, you know, I respect Bernard Hopkins opinion a lot and he certainly is around Virgil Ortiz from the standpoint of involved in terms of his promotion. So if that's something that Bernard said, you have to take that seriously. But again, I think it's totally going to be up to Virgil Ortiz and his closest people involved in his career, mainly his father and his management. To be honest with themselves, can we do this? Is one 47 where we should be or should we try to go up to one 54? Look, he's had tremendous power at one 40 and one 47. It feels like I mean, you never know until you see them in action in the new weight class, but it feels like he's the kind of guy that's just a naturally heavy handed fighter that if he's fighting at one 54, he's still going to be able to punch very effectively. You know, and by the way, there's nothing wrong with when he comes back when he gets better and he's good to go. You don't have to go all the way to one 54..

"All right, Trevor Brian is the WBA heavyweight champion on Saturday. He will defend that title against Jonathan guidry that's a fight that will take place in war in Ohio and you could watch it on pay per view. Trevor, before I get into the fight and kind of your place in the heavyweight division, I was watching back your media conference call with Don king. And I'm wondering, at what point when Don starts talking, do you kind of lose track of everything that he's saying during these conversations? You know, Don Kingston has historian, man. So just to sometimes enlist, listen to him, you can get lost because he has so much knowledge and so much information. And sometimes even I turn to a fan as well just sitting there talking to him and listening to him. So yeah, man, it's funny. I just love to hear that man speak. Yeah, I've been down to his office in Florida a few times. I've done magazine stories on him. It's just at some point he's like, I'm not sure where he's going with his conversations. And, you know, I was just laughing just thinking, watching your conference call. Just vintage Don when he starts talking. How would you describe your relationship with Don king? I have a great relationship with dawn on these my promoter and we talk about whatever we need to talk about for the fights and to tell you in my career. I promise and caress heavyweight champion. So what when you look back at the decision to sign with Don, what went into that for you? As I said, that last interview as well. We have my first meeting with none. He basically told us, hey man, I usually don't sign guys straight out of the amateurs and I signed guys that's getting ready to fight for tiles or in positions for titles. So that was something big coming from my city of all in New York to amateur guys getting signed being a Mary mom, but what got me was when Don king showed me his leisure of all the champions, all the former champions of the heavyweight champions, every champion he had and all the millionaires he made. And I was like, man, sign me up. I want my legacy to start hurt. I want to be, I want to be part of this list. And I told him that day, I'm going to be heavyweight champion one day. So give me the contract. I'm ready to sign. Let's put the working. And that's where I started off..

"Now what I want to talk about is this article that I saw And I think I may have mentioned it a little bit last time but I wanted to bring it up again because I was just talking about it with Chris salsa a big shout out to him from wba P and newsmax About this Wall Street Journal poll a report about a poll where Hispanics are evenly split 37% and 37% saying that they both would support Trump or Biden And this is revolutionary if you will because for decades my entire lifetime that's always been part of the guaranteed vote for the Democrat party In the 60 to 70 percentile African Americans into the 80 and close to 90% So what gives now that there's this big split well obviously Latinos are leaving the left because they've seen the economic growth that occurred during the Trump administration It doesn't matter what color you are or what country you're born in People come to America for the American Dream That's exactly why they're

"Going on here and we're paying very close attention to what you're doing. The they say. Okay we're here at all the interim titles we're gonna do know. They got a little nervous you know. Because they're pretty much unregulated outside of the united states but when somebody with the type of or an entity with the type of influence that the abc has started dropping the hammer. They they got nervous. So how this author was. Michael fox can robbed. Abc involved in get the wba to start acting. I'm with you. You know keith. I just if backyard won that fight against dugas there's no way the wb as ordering defaced. Santana's like that's not happening like this. Is i think in large part because who is not a household name how yoenis i have nothing. That's another good. Fighter is very good in key eventually will fight for a world title deservedly. What the winner of gutai. If they were going to order something it should be the winner of the bhutto. James fight because that fighter would be their world champion and that fighter should be should should especially bhuta because when he fought best putin Won the fight but then tested positive for a pd. So if there's a guy who deserves a break in this whole thing now he is getting a second title shot here of course but if there is a guy who deserves something done to have something done right to him as opposed to what has happened. Before it's bettayeb. I agree and logically. It makes sense. You have boo tie james. And then that gives a little bit more of a runway to uganda's to figure out if the spiders makeable in the first two months of two thousand twenty two if by say mid december that fight does not look like it's being close to being made then the wbz could step in and say all right that fight. We don't know when that's going to happen. We're trying to clean this up. You now have ninety days to fight. The winner of james burst bouton like that just seems logical standards. Involved in this is weird. Doesn't have high level wins doesn't deserve what would effectively be shot at the major title. Like gus has the top version of the wbz's title. What is standing on has done to warrant that type of opportunity. Nothing in my mind. The win was a good win. And i think i'm lorries now always like the name. He's like a dorm as a gatekeeper. At welterweight for sure but if the warmer actually fought pretty well in that fight. I thought it was a competitive fight but i don't. This isn't stand yoenis fall fault. I totally understand what. You're saying. Chris but this isn't his fault. This is on the wbz. Like why how is again. How was he involved in this. It should be the winner bhutan. Evan james gets the shot at uganda's eventually but if he is able to fight spence in the interim he should be allowed to do that and look spence wins. Then you can. Order spends to fight the winner of that and everybody makes more money every gets a higher profile. Everybody wins it. Seems like logic is not carrying the day here..

"It's not that's not a thing but before that he was doing everything possible to get that to t to earn that that world He's got a great resume and heavyweight. He's fought some of the best and the reason like he's the reason he lost that opportunity because he fought a real guy and alexander pevec and not a heavyweights or fighting real guys. So i give dillion white credit for that too. So i'd like to see that happen in the first quarter of two thousand dollars. I think it will happen. I think fury who has talked publicly about that fight in the past even before. Anthony joshua lost usak. I think fear would go for. It's a big fight as we said in the uk. And i think that's that's likely to happen. And they wanna bring tyson fury back to the uk at some point. He's bigger should star star now than he was before clearly after this trilogy with the auntie wilder he hasn't fought in the uk and three and a half years or so. So i mean he's you know he's he's the best heavyweight in the world now. He's certainly the best heavyweight in england heavyweight worldwide and. I think he would like to fight back home. You know manchester london wherever And dillion white fight would be a big fight back there and and you know i'm not trying to come down on billion white but you know he was once upon a time deserve the title shot and it's unfortunate and unfair to him that he did not get it when he was supposed to get it. But i just like people continuing to harp on this as if what happened in the first alexander can fight didn't happen it's just very annoying. I agree i agree. It's such a big fight in the uk that i think just e regardless of mandatory status make the fight like you know put a while into position to find the undercard give them a chance to furniture of title down the line. It's not perfect. But i'd like to see white against fury early next year. Let's talk for a second about the welterweight division. Back in august you're daynuss. Goss picked up the biggest win of his career knocking off manny paquito retiring at least for now manny paki out and winning the full version retaining the full version of the wba's welterweight out of the super version of the welter weight title. In the aftermath of that gus understandably had hoped to take a unification fight against arrow spitz. That would be a incredibly meaningful fight course but also bring a big payday for you. Dana gus as well the wba which is efforting to combine its titles eliminate the interim and the regulars and all the stuff that has plagued it over the last five or ten years. They said no. No no you've got to participate in this box off. I up against donnie. Onus young fighter who is thirteen at this point it's supposed to take place at some point before the end of the calendar..

"So be it but in the case of a fight you mentioned like colbert. Air's real good matchup between you know maybe not the most popular well-known guys but guys that make pretty good fights and have some talent you know. They're they're gonna have to fight each other. It's going to be the probably the best Opponent of each of their careers. My mind You better be of against marcus. Brown takes place. That's a fight. That is a wbz fight. That's headed to a person most likely unless abc and And top rank make deal another good match-up. I thought it was kind of funny. When when that fight was that that person was supposed to take place this coming. Friday and top-ranked and pbc at spent all this time hashing out the details to get the porter and crawford fight done so i asked him. I said hey guys what about this fight and basically the response to me from from both sides was you know well. We kind of forgot about it the deadline. Because we're so busy and the other fight down so they went to the wbz. They ask for the extension. They were given the extension and you know hopefully they can make a deal otherwise once again. If i go i fit in you know. I guess we'll see another pretty solid match up in the light heavyweight division and so on and so forth and that's going to happen with a lot of these other. wba Former interim champions who were now put in the position of mandatory challenger and or order to limited or so in terms of the sanctioning bodies how they should work. This is how this should work now if if only Some of the the organization would order some other similar fights. I wish that the wbz would order the fight between fema lopez and devin haney in. Oh let's get it on. I mean there's a question about that because of their their making Loma changle the franchise champion and then of course female beat him to win that title any got upgraded to the from the interim to the full title and they've been yapping back and forth and there's one way to settle it and that's the fight each other but unless In order is made. I just don't see that happening. So the sanctioning bodies have done good on well in this situation that we're talking about. They could do better. But i agree with you. One hundred percent on haney against lopez. I mean why the wbz wouldn't immediately order that. After lopez fights cambosix is beyond me. They never intended for lopez to be the franchise champion. Why do you want that belt. Around his waist that was pursued marchinko title so if lopez get through cambosix why not immediately say devon haney but fema lopez negotiate or go to persp- either way if you're taffy lopez or devon haney. You win if you if you cut a deal. It's probably going to be a good one if it goes to purse bid if a lopez knows purse bids work they get. You paid a big amount of money. So if you're a purse bid maybe comes back endeavor relationship with you. Maybe eddie hearn's steps up wanting a big fight devon haney on dissolve maybe top-ranked believes. That's a big fight on paper view. I don't get it. I don't get why both those guys wouldn't push the wbz order it. And i don't get even more. Why the wbz wouldn't immediately order it. I agree with that. Also in terms of the locust outbreaks is the only flying. That women might be that they hope to make a rematch between t- fema lopez and vessel ulama champion. Which by the way is is a terrific natural boston..

Of course who who should who shot. I mean he's with floyd man. Foyt is the one who invented the green for. He knows what he's doing. I mean he's he's turned tank into a star tank wasn't a star and tank. Bright tank wasn't this big like he. He's done this. He's align them very very well but you don't think that he could take that next step at international level with someone. Like eddie hearn. They put on those big productions. No need no need. Remember that Mayweather took tank to the uk versus liam walsh. They don't need them and look how now look. I know that people had certain opinions about the way that those press conference look. Maybe floyd was a little too intrusive. You know gave that whole should ni- h-have you don't want anybody in your video fillon. But maybe maybe he's learnt from then but the point still remains he was able to take tank to the uk for a no name and turn it into a sold out arena. So yeah no. They don't need any. i mean. you're floyd bro. you really don't need anybody. You floyd i can see tank was with like lou dibella year. Go where eddie. Be global star but like bro. Floyd could take him floyd to himself as fought around the world. Why can't he put his fighter around the world. he just fought in. What was that japan. Which zinsou or would. I am not saying means to gibbs. i'm not saying birtles. A big pay per view but the definition of a big pay per view to eller be might be tank moving up to welterweight to fight a two-time champion. Who's been in the ring with mayweather. You know who's been on. Hbo since the beginning of time you know what i mean. So it's like that might be. Because even if they reinstate or they have reinstated. They're gonna that tells me that they're going to still have a hand in this fight. They may do something like the wbz do like a black lives. Matter in asian lives matter tight bills or some shit like that to have a hand in the fight and then this just sets up. Ooh gets into me the winner so the funny thing is like but loses no matter what happens I think there's opportunity in each situation four but but he is like he loses no matter what happens because if manny has the bill in early wins he has to make that fight. Right now earl. And if he's still under bob. Top rank has to accept the feet. Not bud but is signed who has a salaried rate. Top rank has to accept a sixty forty deal not now buddies imposition turn right now but he don't accept the rate it's top rank who does because they're the network putting on the fight laney who if mugabe keeps the bell and moves forward is bug gonna get guga's fight how i don't know because if he don't get that earls find google next then he's gone so he's just like that's that's kinda was funny to me because it's like damn real you gotta make something happen but i think the wb a right is going to find a way to put something on the line and still get their hand in his in his early pack. I'll fight which you think i don't know. What would they give them. Bro of the interim taken the regular tusk super super stake in. That's guga's okay. Do you do a diamond franchise again. Those are completely different. Sanctioning body though. No i get that. But i'm saying their version of it. Yeah no that's what. I'm saying their versions of the belts they can possibly give taken virgil is the wba. Gold right Jamal is the wnba regular. Gas is the super in the interim is even taken. There's no maybe they could get him the interim they'll probably about that super no they could probably give the insurance because i don't think Stand tony is. Did he get a bell and his last fight standard. So if they'll strip is as this fight is bigger. Yeah maybe they do anything they do anything else they wanna do if he whoever's district whoever and give it to package. But that's about money but if that's the thing though that you're you're contradicting yourself. Because if that case just reinstated pack out because it was about sure for sure. That's why i said i'm indifferent. I'm not. I don't know. I said i'd let off by saying i'm in different kind of how the situation is because one moment pack being reinstated the next moment.
