Atlanta Dream Co-Owner Kelly Loeffler blasts WNBA anthem protests

"Storm walked off the basketball court during the national anthem The other day, the W. N B a said the female athletes pitched a hissy fit and disrespected America as a peaceful form of protest. The players held a moment of silence for Briana Taylor, the 26 year old black woman who was killed at her home by Louisville Police. Among those who denounced the squawking Magpies on the basketball court was Senator Kelly La Flor, the Republican from Georgia who also co owns the Atlanta dream, She said it was a political stunt that disrespects every man, woman and child who has given their life for this country. Clearly, the WN BA has fully embraced the black lives matter political movement and turned its back on the American flag. And now every freedom loving American ought to turn their backs on the W. WNBA players walk off court during national anthem

"Now we did see W N B a back yesterday. And what's that? What's the one headline that you're seeing this morning? Katie George, from WNBA being back Okay, so actually just Googled it just for Research purposes, right? Not that you were just going to ask me that so I just typed in in Google search WN Ba The 1st 3 headlines are WN. Ba players walk off Court during national anthem before season opener Next one W NBA players walk off court during during during what I'm going through 12345678 Headlines before I get to use a Today's WNBA returns. Liberty Storm Players leave court before Anthem. That's the story right? And that's why I said the lie will get halfway around the world before the pants or the truth that even has a chance to put its pants on. Correct and so yesterday, and by the way, one of these stories is ESPN Twitter account itself. So let's not say that it's everybody else. ESPN Twitter account ran. This is well to over four million views of a video. Of the WNBA doing a fantastic job on the say her name social awareness of Briana Taylor campaign. It was, It was well done. We've seen, you know players from all different sports. Talk about black lives matter. This is part of this right W NBA very strong in their beliefs and doing that. And so, the first thing I see Is all right. That happens. The national anthem is played and then WNBA players walk off. I'll be honest with you. I've been in favour of everything you guys know we've talked about this on and off the air. Like black lives matter has been an awesome strong campaign players kneeling during the anthem. We knew that it was never about the politics of it. It was it was about, you know, just bringing awareness. Like if you were educated enough. You knew that that was the case, right? Did this upset this upset me, right? And then I almost took to Twitter. Katie and I almost just put out the salvo like everybody does. Like, I can't believe this. I stand up for all this stuff. And you know what? Let me let me double check this. Let me make sure I'm understanding this correctly, and I could not find the actual video of this. And because I couldn't see if the anthem was actually being played, or this was before. Holly Rowe than tweets. How go No. This was the players leaving. They went back to the locker room. And then the national anthem was played on. Not unlike every single college football game that you and I both attended a lot of it. They come out for warm ups. They go back in the locker room national anthem is played. When they come out, they play a game. And yet this goes to show you how quick people are wanting to put in their political two cents, Ah lot of times and jump on a story when they haven't actually research Said Story. And it's just I thought it was a good lesson to learn for ESPN as well. Two on how to handle this any such a touchy subject right now. It was interesting. I got the alert right on my phone because I have the ESPN app and the alerts on loud and sew it deemed and I immediately went to it. And I saw you know the headline that they walk out during And I was like, Wow, that's pretty bold. And I wonder what the thought process was behind this because, like you, I jump Tio. It's one thing to kneel, and now we've all been educated on what the kneeling represents during the national anthem, and you see teammates put their their hands on their teammates, shoulders and it's a powerful moment, right? We saw that with MLB is opening day throughout the opening weekend. We've seen that with the MLS as well, A Zen ba scrimmages. But for you to walk out during the national anthem, I was like that's taking disrespect to another level, right? And so I was irritated when I read the headline, and then I went and watch the video. And I couldn't hear the national anthem being played. I could just see the women walking off the court and so I thought. I don't know if this is just bad quality and video like we don't have the sound, but I actually can't hear the anthem. But still, it's a bad look, Lynn, and maybe this was the WN Ba players saying, Hey, we need to like up the ante here. We need to make headlines because we want, you know, eyeballs on our league and we want to make a statement. That's where I thought it was. That was at what four o'clock? Three o'clock yesterday. But then, as I started researching more, I was like, Geez, I don't know if this is actually how it went down until Mike ate, texted us last night and said, Look, here's a correction and ESPN actually put out another alert and corrected itself, which I thought was big time. Because not everybody that I just read off all these headlines. Do you have done so or even updated their articles online right now to change the wording during two before walking off before the national anthem as compared to walking off during is a completely different optic, in my opinion, and so the fact that they walked off before, and this is their way. Of saying We're going to protest. I understand it, and I'm behind it. But to your point it was a great learning lesson because I like we've joked about people want to be outraged for the sake of being outraged. I was outraged yesterday unfairly because I don't have the facts. But neither did any news outlets either. And that to me was

NWSL Nation - Challenge Cup Week 1 Review

"Soccer's back soccer's back like we've watched it. We've seen it's. Forty minutes worth of it. Those the they fly by five hundred minutes fly by really yeah, especially when they're broken down in segments good. I'm glad they took my advice on that because I know the original plan was every match one after the continuously? Yeah, the the ninety ninety minute was was controversial, but I'm glad they went with it. You know it's every now and again I have good ideas. Any any who Mike. We have lots to talk about as we record. This are six matches into the Challenge Cup tournament. Every team is have Janssen play. What's four teams have played twice us, or we're going to dig into. These gives quick reactions and have look forward to to the next up around imagine by kicking off the. Match on CBS. Half a million people tuned in to watch North Carolina Courage Portland Mozart. Most watched. Time incredible and it'd be so much of all time. It was a higher view than a few EPL matches. That happened that day. It was a all cases a pretty strong success of course Mike I know. If you had your druthers, things, soccer wise would have done. A little courage defeated Portland thorns two to one. This thing was scoreless. Seventy five minutes in for Denia scored off of Haley Mace Cross Italy trying to watch so much soccer in the last couple of days, trying to like the July's all the goals correctly of course, Charlotte equalizing in the eightieth minute Lynn Will Williams putting North Carolina ahead in. In stoppage, time I'm just going to cut right over to you. First Match Back Challenge Cup immediate reactions. This was incredible and I say this is the thorns fan heard about the loss, but this was a fantastic match. You know you've got a big rivalry between the courage and the thorns lot of history there, we didn't know what it would look like with. You know such a long hiatus structure to the preseason, but it didn't disappoint new look lot of new faces for the thorns, but I think they exceeded a lot of expectations, goalkeeper bill, bixby and her and wwl debut had some phenomenal saves against you know. Courage onslaught, tons set pieces good work in the midfield by Lindsay Horon Rocky Rodriguez. The courage didn't quite look like the courage that we're used to. It wasn't quite the smooth billed from the back fast pace attack that we've come to know one love that being said they found a way to to make it happen, and their crosses into the box were lethal, and that's got the job done for them. Yeah I think a theme because we're obviously talking about the courage again toward the end of this I, think team on sing with North Carolina. They're known for their depth. They're known for their cardio. They're known for their technical skill level. And obviously just having a deep deep deep roster, topics, players, and it just always seems to come down to the same two or three people. With things close out I mean you're talking about a phenomenal group of talented players. The end the day comes down to Denia and. Then Williams. It's interesting. It really isn't ensemble and I. I think I think they did great work, but but you're right. It came down to that, and you know Lynn Williams's well on her way to. Showing up SAM curve the for the Golden Boot of the tournament at least. Yeah I at this point I'm. Talking about we're talking three goals at two games, it's you know it's obviously phenomenal performance on her independence looking well. Haley Haley Mason Samuel Ev looks really strong on the distribution end I think that they look pretty locked in there I think I'm Portland's, and it's hard to say there weren't too many heavy. This isn't necessarily the case where I think you're looking t better, dead or a lot of ways i. feel like Portland made a handful of mistakes that led them to give up two late goals True and one thing you have to say for Portland to not only are they coming in with a largely new team They've gotten hit. Pretty hard by the injury bug. You know we had eighty franch this out of the tournament. number one draft Sophea Smith didn't play. We don't know when we're going to see her. So we saw a lot of new faces, and they still put up a good fight. No, absolutely I actually one thing. I really came to Portland After this match, they were one of the most. It was one of the most sound defensive performances we'd seen across all the matches. We watch so far like I said I just think this. This was a case where the courage were able to take their strengths finder blemish where they could fit something in They're just phenomenally talented. When it comes to responding to cross well laser accuracy with that, you know finding people and bill each something that the bread butter, too, and they were able to connect it right the right time toward the end of the match I. They knew that they're conditioning. Just with depth of their roster helped them a lot which makes their most recent match all the more interesting overall i. Definitely felt like a good showing on both ends in, and really was a tough break. This is definitely it really would have benefited Portland to get points here and yeah. Yeah stoppage it was e can't get more dramatic, so it was. It lived up. Tech speculations

Sue Bird on the WNBA's Plan for the 2020 Season

"I Su. High has gone. It's good, so sued the players voted. The WNBA is officially kicking off the two thousand twenty season in late July at IMG Academy in Bradenton Florida. How are you feeling about all this about basketball? Being played in two thousand twenty, you know I'm not gonNA lie. It's kind of mixed emotions. You know I think when it comes to just simply playing basketball lesson. That's an easy answer. There's something about it that will give us. A sense of purpose we love to play. It'll be able to do great things for the WB and this bubble, but then obviously with what's going on whether it's you know health and safety pandemic wise whether it's social justice wise just a lot to kind of process through. I do plan on going so that's not. That's not really what I'm trying to announce anything like that, but it's still like as the date approaches. You know it's still a lot going on I, think everybody said. Your VP of your union. What were some of the Union's biggest concerns? Guys came to an agreement on this. I mean first and foremost is definitely the health part of it all you know the safety part of it all and just kind of going through. You know what the protocol is GonNa. Be An he the frustrating part and it's nobody's fault. Is that because cove nineteen is obviously new? There's not tons information on it because we're trying to get this season going in. At the time it felt like in a you know three or four week period. We're trying to make all these decisions. A lot of doctors just didn't have concrete answers, so the frustrating part was wanting to hear just like exact answers, and really not getting them just being able to be told what kind of they hope things to be in what they plan for so again. It just brings a little bit anxiety, but I think now that we. We are getting closer. That is one thing that that got handled after that it was the money I'm not gonNA lie. You know when you pull to the table for negotiations. You never know what's going to happen, but luckily at the end of the day it took us a second to get there, but at the end of the day we got one hundred percent of our money, even though we're playing a little less in terms of games, but That was that was a good thing as well and then the third thing was the social justice aspect. WNBA is eighty percent black women. You know we're kind of at the intersection of so many things, and we need our league to stand for something and to support us, so those were kind of like the As you mentioned it's so hard to make these decisions when you're working with such imperfect information, especially scientifically, right? What was that like for you personally making that call? I don't know if there's going to be a great analogy, but because I've had so many surgeries and I've had to do. A lot with. Doctors and getting opinions, I've actually I've come to understand that. We've viewed doctors in this light of knowing everything and I've actually in my own way. I've come to understand that they they know a lot, and hopefully you know you have doctors. Luckily I do around you that you can trust, but there's a there's a limit to that. You know when they cut you open to perform surgery. There's always a percentage you know always a chance that it's not gonNA. Work out exactly how you want so for. For me I. Just tried to actually put myself back in that mindset like okay. They're giving us as much as they can. But there's obviously uncontrollables is well. I mean honestly the State of Florida. The one, but that's a whole other bag Ormes,

"Has been postponed that was march eleventh when an announcer called off the Oklahoma City Thunder and Utah Jazz game. Just before tip off. Most of US remember that day it was the day. President trump announced the travel restrictions from Europe. The day Tom Hanks and read a Wilson said they had tested positive for Kovic nineteen and the day the NBA suspended the rest of the season after Rudy. Gobert the Utah Jazz Center head tested positive for the virus. You may remember go bare as the player who touched all the microphones at a Utah Jazz media event as a prank. He didn't know he was positive at the time and later apologized for it. I'm a huge basketball fan myself so I was crushed when I heard the news of the NBA suspension. But of course public health comes first to me that really was the watershed moment in the entire. Corona Virus Cova nineteen conversation and not just sports but in our culture. Christine Brennan has been covering sports for three decades. She says she hasn't seen anything like this in her entire career. I think it woke the nation and the world frankly up to the significance and the seriousness of the corona virus pandemic after the NBA suspended season. It was like a domino effect. Major league soccer in the NHL have suspended their seasons for now while Major League. Baseball is hoping to open season in May according to ESPN and the NCWA cancelled it spring and winter championships as a wolverine go blue. I love March madness. It's one of my favorite times of the year. I even had tickets to the final four this year so I was really disappointed when that didn't happen but the threat to our health and safety was too great and it wasn't just the safety of the fans it was for the safety of the athletes to eleven thousand. Olympians expected to compete in Tokyo. This summer had their plans. Put on. Hold the Twenty Twenty Summer Games now postponed until twenty twenty one. The Games have been canceled three times before. But this is the first time they've been postponed and of course even a date. That far ahead doesn't come without concerns. Christine Brennan told me well we in the summer of two thousand twenty one. We'll people feel comfortable. Flying on planes overseas will the Japanese fans feel comfortable being in big stadiums and the answer is over and over experts. I've talked to. We have no idea. We just do not know but by that point of course a lot of these. Olympic athletes will have lost months and months of training. I just don't think we know yet and I think that uncertainty is so difficult for athletes. Consider that Olympic athlete. Their whole lives for this one moment. I was hardly know just as we train for for almost a year to two years. Just make the Olympic team. That's odd the beater Amman. An Olympic distance runner twenty twenty was the fifth time he's qualified at forty three. He's also the oldest American to run the marathon in the Olympics. You know before before the device you have a goal does the one thing you have like road races coming up you. Have you have something to get ready for this time? Everything's on the air. I just training just to stay fit and the sports world isn't just waiting on the sidelines. In the midst of the Pandemic Major League Baseball is now participating in a nationwide Corona Virus Antibody Study League employees spouses and players volunteered to participate to help give a better understanding of how prevalent this virus really is so I go is not to get an obese specifically back to work go in our research is really to get a bit of understanding of what the true prevalence looks like across the nation. I spoke with Daniel Lichner. The president and lab director of the Sports Medicine Research and Testing Laboratory. They were great pot down in a great organization because the head nationwide coverage that we could access individuals that were I seem to matic regular part of the general population. You know from team owners all the way down to hotdog vendors and be sales people on Game Day and everything in between you're looking at the MLB it sounds like sort of a microcosm then of the country Representing different demographics of our country. Can Can you talk me through how it was administered? Then in how quickly then did they get results? Some people could do drive-thru program where they have a bunch of their technicians. Physicians trainers and the Individuals with the drive through. Stick their finger out the window get fingerprint can get the result literally in a matter of minutes and it seems like most people would fundamentally want to know. Then am I now essentially immune can I get infected again? I think which too soon to say what that immunity looks like now. The federal government is slowly making plans to reopen the country. As I said earlier president trump has asked major league sports commissioners to be apart of that conversation the commissioners have a tough job. They're weighing a lot of things. In making the decision of how in win to get back to work commissioners work for the owners and their league and and the owners are going to want to start playing. They're going to want to start making money again. They're not liking the losses the financial losses that they're taking of course no one is the commissioners also have to weigh the very significant health risks. Not just for the players and their families and the referees and the coaches and the TV people and the and the media people But also the fans in the stands. And if you're drawing people into a stadium and if it becomes a corona virus hotspot and all of a sudden explodes. That is the fear of every commissioner in every sport you open up too soon you bring people together and all of a sudden you have another corona virus bomb sports says we know it may not be the same for a long time the NFL draft. Which starts tonight. We'll be held. Virtually for the first time as was the WNBA draft last week. The League plans to start its regular season in September and the draft helped set that into motion. Here's NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in an interview with ESPN. Obviously it's a different year for all of us. We had to make modifications in our offseason program We've had to make significant changes to our draft And those are all appropriate and their right to do. And we you know part of what this is about is continued to work from home by-product from home continue to do things we're supposed to do and be prepared. There's also the possibility that spectator less sports will become the new normal Christine Brennan predicts that will happen at the PGA men's golf tournament when it comes back in June and the masters in November. We could see an a masters without spectators. And that's GonNa look very strange to a lot of people. Although my prediction here is that within a couple of days of watching some of these sports events. If you watch a baseball game without spectators day is not gonNA look a strange the next day and by the third or the fourth day. You're going to be totally used and you're just going to be happy. You're watching baseball again. I think sports is walking a very fine line. It's kind of a tight rope. We want sports back. It'll make people happy it'll signal this openness that maybe we're we're coming out of this and yet you don't WanNa move too fast. Olympic runner of the Bearman thinks that the twenty twenty one Olympics will be a history making record breaking year. But I think he's GonNa going to unite us. I'm just GONNA have so much energy like a lot of things. Going every athlete winner represent contract because they know what their country went through so everybody wanted to do when do their best Magic Johnson also remains hopeful America. All of us who live in this great country that we live in. We need sports especially in a time like this but only if everybody is safe

"W._n._b._a. Is really the cream of the crop in women's basketball so i was looking through the roster of our very own new york liberty and i realized that to start the season. The team had four players who had gone to you. Speak for yourself by the way. I'm an atlanta dream fan. Oh sorry i meant our as in the city. We are the end but i am sorry didn't mean to lump you in with other new yorkers or sarah could've said our as in you and i that's what i meant our you and hi jeff jeff against the world exactly exactly anyway so to start the season. The liberty had four players who had gone to uconn tina charles bria hartley and kia nurse who are playing with liberty right now and kia stokes who is sitting out this year. Each of those uconn alumnae had won a national championship and yes. I did use the word alumnae there on the podcast so given the select company of the w._m._b._a. I wondered how many players in the league were also national collegiate champions and lo and behold it is a ton of players of the one hundred forty thirty six players on rosters right. Now thirty three have won a national title. That's twenty three percent of all w._n._b._a. Players that seems like a lot how much of that is yukon alone. Well allies that it is a lot of of uconn players are not not all you players especially players from recent who recently only joined the w._n._b._a. So new york is one of four teams to have four college champs on the roster. The others are the chicago sky the minnesota lynx and the seattle storm storm. Only one team in the league is without an n._c._w._a. Champion that's the indiana fever though tear mccowan came very very close with her mississippi. It'd be safe bulldogs losing in the final two notre dame in twenty eighteen so the other thing about those former uconn players on the liberty is that of course they didn't just win one title kia spokesman three charles hartley a nurse each one to across the league thirty three national champs won a combined fifty fifty four n._c._w._a. Basketball titles and only one team can top the liberty for the most titles won. It is the seattle storm with ten. One of the connecticut alumnae on that team. Brian stewart won four of course cleanup moscato lewis one three and sue bird one to the storms dorms crystal langhorne also in a championship with maryland in two thousand six so i haven't looked at the share of national titles among players in the n._b._a. But by definition initiative can't be as high the same number of players when a title each year for college men and women but they are substantially more players in the n._b._a. than the w._n._b._a. So there's obviously in a lot lot lot more of those titles in the w._b. Was that kind of the only factor that explains it or are there other kinds of theories out there about it. Is it the fact that it seems as like a higher concentration of the best players tend to kind of accumulate on the yukon type teams in women's college basketball and then those team team seem more reliable to win the championship. Then like obviously duke in on the men's side has been getting a lot of top high school players. <hes> probably as much as yukon at their peak yet. Duke doesn't win the national championship. I guess maybe it's easier to convert high school recruiting into championships at the women's level. I think that's probably right especially in the slightly more distant past like i think more recently we've seen the influx of parody in in the league and that's getting a little closer to men's college basketball but before then you really saw talent concentrated on a few teams and not just uconn tennessee has had a ton of players in the w._m._b._a. Baylor baylor yeah <hes> especially like those earlier baylor teams <music>..

"Four. Let's talk under reported stories and let's kick it off emily with the W._n._B._A.. And it's actually two different the incidents going on right now and the W._n._B._A.. But one involved with Lonzo Williams an alleged domestic violence attack against ex-girlfriend it happened in April. She was re signed by her team. Los Angeles shortly after that but only now is the W._n._B._A.. Suspending her ten games and and the W._N._B._A. Filed a grievance against what they said. Hey look this is still ongoing. Why are you doing this now and the W._n._B._A.? Is One of the few leagues the other way in the N._H._l.. They believe that I typically cover that doesn't have a specific domestic violence policy now we saw the N._F._l.. When you do have a domestic domestic violence policy can get murky? It gets even murkier when you don't have one and you have another player now still playing with some accusations. It's a very difficult situation for the W._N._B._A.. To not have a policy and they still have a personal conduct policy but they're navigating these waters and a little bit of basis and that's problematic right but why don't they have a policy. How can you have a policy in two thousand nineteen? I know especially given the relationship they have with the N._B._A.. And we talk about N._B._A.. Players in W._N._B._A.. Players the relationships they have front offices offices. Have I mean how do you not see this coming from W._n._B._A.. Standpoint when the N._B._A. Does have a very very well written policy that everybody understands this. This makes no sense. It's a huge oversight for the W._N._B._A.. I can speak for H. League. I cover their. Their rationale for not having a policy we treat everything on a case by case basis in every single case goes across the desk Gary Bettman the Commissioner of the League now. There's been some recent domestic violence cases involving Austin Watson with the Nashville predators in arbitrator. Neutral arbitrator reduced that suspension so not everything clear when I hear that that's like a gift for a lawyer because you look at that and say no policy great what you say. I don't care what the president is. There's no policy so I'm gonNA argue something else. And why won't you give it to me. Well I think having a policy he lets you get out of that discussed incredibly weak argument. I mean you're arguing the end shouldn't we also hold the W._n._B._A.. To the same standard any other men's sports league when we see this sort of action domestic abuse is domestic abuse views when you see it there should be immediate and very harsh reaction to it. I WanNa live in a truly equal world where we're asking everybody to step up and do the right thing in these situations so I'm not gonNA hold. I'm not going to be any more gentle on the W._n._B._A.. Than I would be on the N._F._l.. The N._H._L. L. or the N._B._A.. These exact same situations this is inexcusable. Well we know they have collective bargaining agreement negotiations coming up soon. I wonder how that will go because you got the union side of it also saying we don't want you judging our players too quickly as their filing in their appeal over Quanta Williams case we'll say there is one thing and most domestic violence experts but agree with this as part of her punishment. She has to undergo counseling all right one other under reported story here and it involves the big baller brand. You remember right Lavar Ball. The four hundred dollar sneakers the Lonzo line all that kind of stuff well. How's it doing now in the wake of that whole situation involving their partner Alan Foster arrested on embezzlement charges actually convicted they are now selling t shirts at.

You appreciate it so quick but all this out and then once it happens so easily pressured classic over thinker like I'll give you an example. I had no so one time I was. I was watching a little porn. This is a funny story. I told this story before I came on myself. I call my mom. It was like really what it literally literally yeah. That's Jyrki often. Your mother calls that same taxing. "It's also the cover story on the upcoming issue of E._S._p._N.. The magazine and we are pleased to have with us right now so meena I found it interesting you talk to him in the article all about being a franchise quarterback. What does he think of that term well? He rejects the traditional connotations. Even though it's long been felt like everybody wants to be a franchise quarterback right. It's the steady reliable guy you build around but I think. In Mayfield's is the way he expressed it. He sees it as maybe not being yourself having to hide how you feel about things not speaking out because the way he talks is not like really any other quarterback in the league and I think it's what makes makes him so unusual at this moment so you talk about the way he talks but you also talked to members of his family. Tell us what he was like as a kid and and how that compares to how he is now. I was really surprised when his mom I'm Gina described him to me as a rule follower and then she left she knew his yeah right. It's obviously ironic seed said this didn't make the peace that he was the kid in class kept everyone in line and made sure everybody followed the rules which is hilarious right knowing who he is now. He told me that he was shy. Growing up he hated public speaking obviously none of that squares with the Baker Mayfield we know today but he also said that he sort of found his voice and became more of an extrovert introvert when you went through that college recruiting process because we all remember he was not heavily recruited. He felt like he was kind of unfairly treated only got four offers from S._P._F.. Scholarship offers from F._B._i.. Schools and I think that's when when he became the quarterback he is now. You know you mentioned that idea of keeping everybody line as a kid but I think about what a quarterback needs to do on a great great quarterback needs to do in a great team. They need to do things that are similar to that. What do you know what did you learn about Baker Mayfield and his personality the knowledge that we don't often see on camera that sort of might show people his greatness but may come as a surprise well? I was surprised Ryan to hear that coming into the season you remember we showed the video. He was not the starter even they. They said the Browns said before he was drafted. tyrod Taylor is going to be a starter you know if we draft someone they're not going to start and he was pretty quiet about it and he told me he felt like he couldn't really be himself at first like he felt like you know. Rookies are told be deferent. Keep your down and he did all that but he also felt like he was suppressing personality. Then the jets games happens he becomes the starter. There's massive term loan the browns but he really sort of becomes the face of the team and you saw him exposing more of his personality and yeah I think acting a little bit more similarly to how we knew them in college so the Hugh Jackson Situation I always like to give athletes a benefit of the doubt in the moment you're all fired up does he look back on that and think maybe I would have handled that differently no not surpri Bra- no but I think actually hugh I talked to Hugh for the peace and he said when he said look I took the job it was the right thing to do for me. I wanted to rejoin the organization that I had been with but I really I thought it was very interesting and telling how he talked about Mayfield. He told me look what happened between us in those final few weeks he used that to fuel the team because with Baker Mayfield. It's very tribal everybody who knows him says this you're either in or you out or you're out and Hugh Jackson knew oh he was out and I think while obviously probably didn't like it. He understood he understood. That's how he leads in how he operates a couple of seconds left. What does he think about the expectations on him and the browns this season of course? He says he's not afraid of them. He's he used to win in his past. He says everyone else in Cleveland needs to get used to winning as well. What else is going to say but that's what you expect out of a franchise quarterback whether he likes that term or not Meena thank you so much folks? Don't forget to check out our excellent article on E._S._p._N.. Dot Com. Turning now to the W._n._B._A.. Los Angeles sparks card required. Players Union intends to file a grievance on Williams's behalf executive director Terry Jackson stating we are disappointed with the League's actions there is an ongoing criminal proceeding and in fairness to the player of the League could have and should have awaited its completion before taking action now as we discussed yesterday on outside the lines the W._N._B._A. Doesn't have a policy specifically addressing domestic abuse but they we do have a personal conduct policy so what should be done about players accused of assault and how should the W._n._B._A.. Address these issues now and in the future to answer those questions we welcome in N._B._C. Sports Washington basketball analyst Christy winters Scott Christie. What was is your reaction to the suspension? When you come down well? I was actually pleased that something was done about it because it really didn't look good for the League to have those charges hanging over the head of and active player on the sparks roster so with that being said today is the first day in office for the W._n._B._A.. President Cathy Engelbert and so I think that will be something that she will address immediately and terms of having having more than just a player conduct code in writing so I think obviously domestic violence it oversees everything in terms of gender and race and everything else wrong wrong so so I think they're right in the ten game suspension which is the most in W._n._B._A.. History Yeah you mentioned the how this looked. What do you think of the optics of a situation where you've got arguably the most well known women's Sports League in the country without a domestic violence policy Housi- particularly against women in the height of the metoo movement right well here in D._C.? There's Becky's Fund and I am very actively working with them to draw awareness and and create some kind of a sounding board for the people who are in situations of abuse and that be children seeing their parents having issues or just any kind of situation like that again regardless of gender but with that being said I just think that it really needs needs to be spoken to across the board. It's a societal issue obviously and require Williams yes with a ten game suspension but then Natasha Howard also now with the allegations over her in her divorce situation in Seattle and those are allegations nations no charges but require Williams with the two felony charges and the gun charge. I think that's a bit egregious. You know the Union is filing a grievance. They're obviously in a tough spot. I mean it's not like we're surprised that they've done that. They have a defend their players but at the same same time what do you make of that call in this environment. Is this a situation where maybe they shouldn't do that or try to find another way now. I think there needs to be a light on top of the situation across the board again. It's a societal issue but I think that the League is doing the right thing in terms of doing a thorough investigation in all charges and allegations that have been mentioned with their players of the League and I think that it just holds players accountable to their actions. And again it should be a societal thing where everyone is trying to be more kind and compassionate and understanding and situations like that you know I know I'm putting you on the spot a little bit here but I'm assuming that this is GonNa come up in the next C._B._A.. Negotiations Association's. What do we think should happen to people who are accused of domestic assault? What should the policy be well? I know that require Williams is already actively in the consultation peace and she is getting advice and she is getting counseling with the issue that she had but I think something like that needs to be in place prior to issues occurring. I think you need to be preventative more than using something and a retrospective aspect so I think the more we can do ahead of any issues is the best this thing and I think that's definitely something that will be on the table and the collective bargaining agreements for sure okay Christie. Thank you very much for your time appreciate coming up. He was a legend on the Supreme Court but it took him over eighty years.

"Rolling and they've been playing without Diana Tarazi and despite her absent they still ring third offensive efficiency Brittney griner and Toronto Bronner. Um have really been the centerpiece behind Phoenix's run without Tarazi just kind of want to get your thoughts on what you are expecting from this game. What are you are expecting from which team in who needs this win? MORLA China will start with view Miss. We wait known Diana Gandhi tea and look she was in they played at Washington. She was in Washington. She was on the bench. He was dressed up and I'm like D._T.. Is GonNa make this and not let me let me just say this. I'm not this says me speaking from dying but I liked Nah. She's GonNa wait for that E._S._p._N.. Debut on National T._V. to have this forty point comeback and you know because I think they played Washington. It was like a kid's gain. Eleven eleven thirty game like that can't be good for your bat. In eleven thirty Washington time is like eight thirty Phoenix time you know so I'm like Nah. She bought the chill and she's about to make this comeback and there couldn't be a bigger hurdle for Connecticut than this like. You've already lost five games in a row and now you have to face. The team has taken you out of the playoff the last two years and Diane's back Ambi been playing like a m._v._p.. Because I picked her preseason and I'm watching her numbers rise game to game like like this is. This is a big test for Connecticut lie. I mean we just talked about. It got to get over the hump well now. That just got bigger. The Hump could've been Minnesota at home to home could have been Atlanta Atlanta now. The Hump is the Phoenix Mercury and <hes> that's the tough one yeah I agree. That's going to be really tough especially if Diana's coming back because we all know she's probably going to do her first game back <hes> and they won. I think four out of their last five <hes> DB in B._G.. have been just on a tear. They've been playing amazing and Connecticut really needs the win and I do not see that happening there I don't I that's going to be a really tough game. Come out come out with a win it for and I don't. I don't know that's that's tough. They like China say they needed to get those those couple games before that mini or the Atlanta Games to kind of get their confidence up and get prepared for this one because that's that's a really big hurdle to go over especially considering they need it right now and just to give a little bit more context of how will greiner in DB have been playing. They both ranked in the top ten right now points per game and rebounds per game so if they maintain this pace that they're on they'll become the third duo in W._n._B._A.. History to do so which is the same company as should meeks hose claw in Lisa Leslie and five live in Mecca in Kansas a couple of years ago in two thousand sixteen so that says a lot about <hes> how well these two have been playing in Connecticut hasn't hasn't had a six game losing streak in several two years so <hes> maybe plan at home can make the difference..
