"Get moving now more of WTM nice I'm really debating whether or not to do this and I understand why I don't know if people are driving more radically right now because they know there's less traffic on the roads and I recognize that the radic driving is not exactly a new phenomenon to this city and to you know portions of the interstate specifically that's sad again no statistical information no hard data to back this up anecdotally because on Monday nights Monday nights I was here and right before the show was over somebody texted him and said it sure feels like cars or drive in a lot faster on the interstate now what they they think that the cops have bigger things to worry about shares department is bigger things to worry about there's fewer cars out there so let's just do what we want to do and I kind of I kind of they're just shrugged it off well then on Monday night I drove home and I'm going it's fifty five right and I'm going sixty five I like to be that ten eleven over here sh I think about nine or ten AM okay and I was passed by at least four or five cars on the track down forty three one of them I had to be going a hundred miles an hour had to be one hundred miles there's no way that vehicle was not going about twenty five thirty miles an hour faster than I was so that got me thinking and then last night yesterday Tuesday afternoon driving in I noticed a couple last night didn't see somebody going a hundred but didn't notice people going a little bit faster than I was I was talking to somebody on the phone and I said is there something wrong with my speedometer I mean it says I'm going sixty five but I have been passed here on the interstate as if it's nobody's business I mean am I really going sixty five maybe that it's broken I'm only going fifty five then this afternoon three thirty in the afternoon and again fifty five the speed limit I'm going to route sixty five because there aren't a lot of cars out there so the flow of traffic is about sixty five I'm going with the flow of traffic and there are cars weaving in and out of so I'm gonna throw this open and I realize this is unscientific as anything on the radio will ever get but have you noticed in the last couple of days anecdotal tales they are but have you noticed that some drivers are taken particular liberties that they otherwise wouldn't now I recognize that this city does have an issue with erratic driving out of control driving speeding and it's been that way for a while we've talked about it and address it number of times and and dumb the chief for the share of have as well and it's gotten better since the last regime if you ask me but real quickly here eight five five six one six one six twenty eight five five six one six one six twenty have you noticed vehicles going faster on the interstate because I have I don't know here's the thing I don't know if I'm just talking everything up too well this is either going to be now that roads are more open and the traffic more flea free flowing or is it just a day ending in Y. and that's how most of the roads are in Milwaukee I don't know so just as I am now I recognize also there are fewer of us on the roads so many of you are going Scot I don't know I've been stuck in my house since well since the stay at home got into place or since I was told to stay home by my employer so I haven't been in my car I haven't been on the roads but if you have real quickly eight five five six one six one six twenty tell me I'm wrong but if you notice this as well we'll continue this to monitor.

Sustainable Travel: The Hard Truth with Lucy Siegle

"Twenty nineteen year in which the travel industry found itself in the spotlight over its role in contributing to climate change tourists now more aware than ever before the environmental cost of air travel. Tourism contributes around five percent of greenhouse gases according to the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership at travel alone contributes to two point five percent of global emissions and these predictions suggest that these stats likely to triple by twenty fifty. If important changes are not maids however the tourism industry is responding in many diverse ways. For example the Guardian Travel Section now primarily focuses on destinations. That can be reached without the use of planes. Easyjet will carbon offset all flights by the end of twenty twenty initiatives such as green tourism? Have seen a leap in membership and provide hoteliers with a green check meter to promote more responsible tourism practices and global travel as a certainly more environmentally aware. Now environmental issues. I have to admit their uncomfortable truths for us in the travel industry so today we're taking the bull by the horns as it were and we're asking. Chiyo hey to tell us just how bad it is and also what we can do about it so environment environmental impact on travel. I think it's very good but the travel industry is trying to tackle this head on but I think we've also got some uncomfortable truths to face and in facing those uncomfortable truths. Hopefully we can make some headway into doing some stuff about it. But how in your opinion how? How bad is the travel industry for the world? How bad is the travel industry? Well if you look at some who just start with the elephant in the room so we look aviation you can say that aviation has a small part of the climate change pie in the comes in four percent. Something like that four percent. You might say well you know. In fact I've heard it said well PSA quivalent to say the fashion industry or something like that but we're in a very serious situation. Everyone's mentioned this to you. We all have to decarbonised really rapidly. So it doesn't matter. What your slice of the Pie is he needs to be getting it to zero. Unfortunately and aviation is one of the ones that's increasing and increasing exponentially so we could be seeing like a quarter of the world's carbon budget used by aviation in the very near future and that's not acceptable. Because you look at the amount of people that fly so I think in the UK. It's something like fifteen percent of the population tastes seventy five percent of the flights. Something like that. Probably most of them by me mainly you. Yes exactly so. It's not fair. Is it that all of that. Carbon budget should be used in that way so that that is the really really big existential and the media issue for the travel and tourism industry is that it's predicated on flights which have become cheaper and all the rest of it and then you get into a very interesting territory about offsetting and where we are now. How much needs to help and is by so? You really can't get very far. Ironically when we're talking about travel without coming across a very difficult brick wall I know this is the lady bird version of environmental issues but reminded y need to decarbonised. Oh so yeah so we are in. The era of climate crisis is not the only crisis that's affecting the bias fairs. We call the planet We also in the age of extinction. loss say rapid extinction loss of species. And we've got lots of different pressures. So the oceans absorbed ninety percent of of heat and a report came out a couple of weeks ago so that was in January February and it was irreputable evidence that the planet is is is warming because you can test the atmosphere will time. There's lots of different factors which might account for the heating when it comes to the oceans that is a controlled experiment ladies and gentlemen and we had the hottest oceans on record since records began and it is equivalent to exploding thousands of Hiroshima bombs in the ocean. That's the amount of energy and he is now in the ocean and this affects all sorts of things so for people in the UK who only really like one sort of fish which is called it means that if the oceans warm around the UK the COD will swim off to colder climes. And they all go to the Baltic states and we can't get any cards so it has a knock-on effects like that but it is proof incontrovertible evidence that the world is warming and a warming world brings with it a lot of problems including higher incidences of diseases oceans rising icecaps melting fires that burn hotter and are more widespread as we've seen in Australia etc etc etc so Greta Thambo says this so I'm GonNa say it but but if you were saying it I by the way she seems to have a wide for you have a great plot has exploded but you you were saying say funny because it's almost anniversary of me-meeting Greta Thornburg in Davos upper mountain and I said to my friend. This is absolutely legendary this point while. I don't think she's going to catch them did you. My friend resigned. I don't know I think she might anyway like two days later. Thirty two thousand kids marched in Belgium for Friday's for the future though is already regretting. Why statement and she just seems so as literally. Mitch Leigh Small. Once more young men conscious actually small. She's actually small and she's very softly spoken very unassuming and yeah. I mean what a presence will an accident force and I really care myself. I squandered that did you. Did you feel something around are no? That sounds ridiculous but people that I've got that power to to have an impact on so many people often do when they walk into the room. Yeah think so. I think I was just being very defensive about what this kid you know. I've been doing this for. Aj's join the queue. Hello but I also now you'll court so you were just about to court for a minute. Yes she's incredibly powerful force and she. I remember her face and her being rather than another thing. That's quite disarming if you spend time around High Profile people with this charisma that quite jazz Hans. She's not just handsome toll so I think I just took a while to understand what she was bringing But she's very very good and what I was going to save it. She says a lot of people. Ask Me and when is the climate crisis going to be over? It's not a moment. It is an era. This is the reality so once you accept that of the reality the climate era. What are you going to do about it? But we can't we can't. We're not GONNA stop traveling. People are not going to stop traveling for fun for work. The world is a very a much smaller place. You might say well people might have to but look what's happened this week. The Corona virus so. This plane's not taking off from China China is basically closed. Which is so. They'll be kind of carbon win for that in a way because they'll be some fear emissions. We're in a numbers game now. So you go to you. Go to look at these things but you know there's an example very very recently where we might say. We're not going to travel. But actually you're not gonNA travel so there's a number scenarios that might happen where you went to travel so what's difficult. The moment is that it's just all on us making the decision not to travel and you may have children who are very inspired by Greta. You might be parents. Have I inspired by Greta? Making a decision to take a train journey instead of Dumping on the plane and these are really interesting. Personal kind of points of maneuver and negotiation at the moment within families and stuff like that and it will be very interesting to see how the travel industry which. I'm sure I shouldn't talk about as if it's a big homogenized thing 'cause I know it's very nuanced different parts of it but they've got to kind of surf this weird moment with us really and we have got to come up with more inventive products. We've got to come up with more different ways of doing things we've got to look at some tough

America's essentially I hang man with multiple looses basically saying I think the best was jump the polls have to jump through a few hoops to be able to vote in Wisconsin that's kind of a quick synopsis when you see cartoons like that I know what the idea of an ounce editorial cartoons to is to capture people make them angry hence excite conduct arms to be offensive yes and I don't like those kind of cartoons I I think it went too far in my friend James which isn't right Wisconsin basically said the same thing a cartoon too far do you agree or disagree well I I do I think there's you know there's some things on cartoons news is swastikas ethnic you know facial things that you know people imac face or yeah is as those they're off limits and I think that this this cartoon went too far I understand you know I I I understand what they were trying to portray him as as you know being against or disenfranchise in people right was actually his organizations actually asking for the law to be enforced it's the law I want to sing from the cartoon right right back it looks to me like something that was done in a in a vacuum out you know when we write stories almost all of this particular in the political team we're asking other people for input we're putting ideas together in the queues a and I write a lot together and yesterday she wrote to things and she was like is this okay yours is not okay and I look at it and say that's not going okay I asked bill the same question all the time you know what do you think of this I go to far yeah and this was something that was you know someone said I know this is a clever idea news is jump through hoops to and no one really said okay yeah that's a first draft start over and you know do something else I mean I understand this point because you know the history of purging voter rolls in America is not is not a good thing I mean I've been reading a lot about the late nineteen hundreds in America you know you're you're in general America's in favor of getting as many people as possible to vote but you know the Republican Party is is place a lot of emphasis on getting people off the voter rolls and and we're guessing Burke has in this particular he's asking for the law to be enforced it's all right I understand that and you know it Chris Larson's now been pushing this idea about automatic yeah in a role may and so forth in California have some problems with it but again you know when I moved to Wisconsin twenty five years ago I was told Wisconsin has a bias in favor of getting people on the voter rolls and getting people to vote and I think that's true really a good thing we have a same day registration we do nobody is prevented from walking into the face of a voting and saying this is my address and there's a bunch of always improve that and I want to vote there's nothing that prevents them from doing that even I saw Nancy Pelosi make a comment about was going on was content as if we're just saying to people your view move you can vote so far from reality and that's to me a great example of how we portray things in our country now it's like either it's this supports the extreme thing ever to talk about the extreme thing on the news of the media in cartoons and are you have a place to some people there some mines chain by the cartoon when I was out there for the brief moments I always mind was changed about that it might inflame some people I guess that's I'm so you can still find it without much problem yeah the internet thanks to the internet we can always find it yeah absolutely there's no mines changed here though you're really just inflaming your own audience of the capital times and I had the editor great great person adjust your point on the show yesterday a brand new opinion editor and she said she would have done it a different way and I think that's honesty exemplify ever she probably approved it to get it on there in the first yes yes of course but that's what I loved about Jesse's take on it was she was it admitting to me that she would have done in a different way you that's a rare thing nowadays people are so steadfast in what they believe you have to make the right decision they don't I I don't mind and this is probably reflected the way all right I don't mind people trying to be provocative on some of these things it's just how you do it and this was clearly stupid so you don't want to do that but but I don't mind people who who are trying to be provocative and you know speaking half half the audience as as part of I mean the cap times is a left leaning newspaper this unlike any other newspaper in the state sure so if their rules are different from our rules there are different from you know New York times rules and other cartoonists have been have been driving publishers craze quarter century drove people almost Nastro people right so yeah it's been going on for a very long time and I don't think the cartoon you use the term racist I would just say my more offensive I think they just it just went beyond the bounds branded a person that I know personally as a racist and that's not the case knowing Rick but young person yeah I just if we're going to have these bigger conversations about how one group or the other is is leading to instability and creating more problems I think we got a look at everything and and the way that a newspaper conducts itself albeit a left leaning newspaper I think is is a a good conversation topic we do seem to be having more and more in that direction people consume the news that agrees with there are sees us what Facebook is all about is you get you get the news that you like on you know thanks for the most part for the most part talk radio addresses an audience that has a particular ideological stripe we should talk about newspapers when I won't make you do your job all right Glover and buys lots more to get to include the big question I will get to a little bit later it's the Friday foreman WTMJ the show next on W. T. M. J. this is these pretty here my friend Scott Turner from online trading academy Scott the term price action hadn't heard before tell me about it he does the price action is the movement of a security price plotted overpaid of time is kind of like a technical analysis it's a mathematical equation is something that's happened in the past to predict the future so what we want to do is we want to show people here at the W. T. M. J. listeners that there are some basic strategies out there we don't have to spend a lot of time behind a computer staring at so why haven't their brokers or other professional advisers already told about that's a really great question because the thing is is if they told you they might be out of a job or they are the planner actually really doesn't know these are some basic strategy so what I've designed a lot I want people to get more involved here in W. T. M. J. is we have a luncheon learn it's a one hour sessions you're gonna come in at noon and what you're gonna do is we're gonna teach you something for one hour and we're gonna walk out of this luncheon learn with the free strategy that has been proven over the last forty years so the key is on that strategy Steve is what happens if it's wrong it's about the risk management so you're only going to lose a little bit you can always get back in what's the numbers of people want to find out about the you know the number to call is eight seven seven nine five eight seven seven four two that number again is eight seven seven nine five eight seven seven four two so my shop for the luncheon learn what should they expect what they're gonna get it's gonna be one hour we do a hard stop at one hour and we're gonna walk them through this basic strategy you only had to make maybe about three to four moves in the last six to seven years for your retirement account so how would that look if you just sat back and you made one to three moves in your retirement account in the last six years lecture winners run do you think people are afraid to kind of take that next step they look at these numbers they see the market going up and down and they're afraid to take the next step the luncheon learn is really a place where they can learn how to do that right we want to teach people how to mitigate the risk so once again give me a call at eight seven seven nine five eight seven seven four two that number again is eight seven seven nine five eight seven seven four two you're listening to this these goofy show on J. we offer our conversations I say to myself not really all right then bicycle glaber I wanna let you set this up we're talk about it after the break you wrote a piece on walkie alderman shanty Lewis yeah you guys are getting calls from people saying look our fortieth birthday is coming up and she's gone online on Facebook asking people for Cass in gift cards and not just asking for Caspar telling them how to send it to or through a specific app yeah an app called cash up which I don't even know what it was owned by I'd similar disorder like been mo plate hello a little bit different so she posted these two notes saying give me money give me give me give cards so I gave her a call and she acknowledged I was more interested in whether this was campaign money she was seeking or personal money yeah you got it I'm not with that and I'm not sure which is better and which is worse it turned out it was personal money that she wanted a home so yeah she was just looking for some money for her birthday and fortieth birthday fortieth birthday yeah when is a birthday coming up it's already happened Happy Birthday to all dimensions here Louise you sending money try did not center any money I'm giving a greetings over the the big stick here that's C. worth more than money are we're gonna will chew over that one after the break but right now it is eleven thirty for the W. T. M. Z. breaking news center like small make you Steve we start with a W. T. M. J. public W. Y. dot com time saver traffic alert that accident eastbound ninety four elm Grove road involving a Waukesha county sheriff squad is being cleaned up all over the highway is still backed up quite a bit you still have you on your brakes eastbound from sunny slope road through the winter change two planes have since reopened the far left lane is the only one that remains blocks to you being asked to stay away from that area for the time being we'll have your full traffic report including travel times coming up here in just a moment meanwhile the Packers are wheels up from Green Bay in about twenty four hours this ahead of their Sunday match up with the San Francisco forty Niners in the NFC championship.
