John Bachman: Confrontational Journalism Is Like Dessert
"I tell people it's like dessert. That stuff that confrontational stuff, The Real Housewives style approach to journalism, people love it. And it rates very well. But afterwards, the audience is always kind of asking themselves, what did I get from that? And it's like a sugar high, you get from eating a dessert before you actually eat the meal. And so, you know, you want, you need a media. You need to be, you need to have your elected officials scared of certain people showing up at their house to hold them accountable. That's the way the system is supposed to work. But what we have nowadays is nobody's really nobody really fears the media like they should. As dangerous as they are, there is not that mutual respect that can, especially in local news that can keep the car dealers accountable and make sure they're not running scams on folks. And that was one of the things that really why I wanted to do this was investigative journalism, consumer, advocacy, those types of things, and that whole part of the business is just following by the wayside. It's just car accidents and murders and I don't live in Atlanta. I don't follow the local news as much as I used to, but ever since WSB sold, it's not the same. It doesn't seem like it's the same,

"WSB in depth. Well, let's her to the mark Arab Show last night at WSB Radio Atlanta Journal Constitutes reporter Christian Boone breaks the news that Todd County Golf Course shooting suspect Brian Rodan was no stranger to two of his three victims. The question most people have been asking is how did these people get together? And the guy from California and Kansas get together with a 23 year old from here and what was going on? So this sort of, you know, answers that question that has been looming over this case. Now this has nothing to do with golf pro Jean Ciller, who was an unfortunate victim at the wrong place at the wrong time, witnessing a crime to the victims. Who were from out of state, not not not the golf pro Jean Sylar, but the two of the victims knew the killer and they had a prior relationship with centered around, um, cannabis and the relationship to Henry Valdez Senate around cannabis. The other victims 76 year old Paul Pearson. We don't know quite what Paul Pearson's role was. We just We're told that he was Affiliated with him as well. And but that Vowed, incidentally, had done business before with rodent. How did police get to this point making these connections searching for a motive? WSB legal analyst Phil Holloway connecting some of the likely dots. If you think about it like this, they're going backwards. They're taking Each of the the known persons which in this case where the three victims, uh but specifically the two that were bound and gag and they're working backwards. The truck, of course, was owned and registered to one of them. That person has a name, and that's that way They can figure out who that person is. And they can start contacting relatives, friends, acquaintances, and then they can look at the electronic communications. They can look at email. They can look at phone records, and that's probably start tying people together. And at some point if, as Christian Boone's a J C is now reporting if this, Mr Valdez, uh, and the the defendant in this case Had some connection to each other in the cannabis trade, then it would make logical sense to me, Scott that there would be some communications. Maybe cell phones, texts, emails. Some type of communication between Mr Valdez has been In Rhode it so I think that Had to guess the police just sort of worked their way backwards until they developed that connection. Suspect, 23 year old Brighton Road in of Atlanta is in the Cobb County Jail, held without bond facing three murder charges, his next court appearance. Is at the end of the month. Nobody. "That has been on folding exactly like the actual novel coronavirus that has been reported on since november so month later we actually got real reports that mimic it and last time on this show. We played some of the mimic reports. But i want to call back to people while. We're in the predictive programming mode that those that one of the things they predict in the event to a one life simulation for the novel coronavirus is that after six months of it seeming like it's basically controlled there'll be a flashpoint and then by eighteen months particularly like the economy will have like the markets will have crash and all this kind of stuff so i really really hope that is not predictive when i really really hope so but i just figured i alert listener to. This is what i call on twitter. What to watch out for. So let's see on this. Cia thing on the homeland thing. Anything else are you watching the show. I can't watch the or have showtime. I've watched the first two episodes and from what i recall about it. That's the plot line. The plot line is his conflict with the taliban. And it's clear in the episodes that the cia head which is like a representative of john brennan. I think that's the person they modeled who does not think that the taliban would listen and does not think it's the right idea to pull the troops out but so so the as in conflict with the president. The president wants to pull them out of afghanistan. The cia doesn't that. I was wondering how the president would fold in. Because i would think if i had to guess of what kind of a plot line is coming out of hollywood right now. It's everything was fine until the president screwed it up. Yeah but perhaps now he's on. I assume the president is on the side of russia in the story. We'll see how it folds out because what another thing that was in the news. This week is that russia russia's added again russia is added again. And that's another thing that you and i have talked about what was it was at the army war college. That had those podcasts. That said if if we really need to take preemptive action against russia or demonstrates the world what a threat. Russia is to us. We need a trip wire. That will show the american public. That we're not kidding. When we say we need to be really aggressive and then when asked by a moderator what would constitute such a trip wire i can't even imagine what would constitute a trip wire like that and the guy said a at twenty twenty seven crisis so i went ahead and started the hashtag election crisis. Twenty twenty and that's your what to watch out for but yeah. That was another thing that i feel like. There's a lot of foreshadowing out there. And i wonder i mean they get away with it because people don't talk about it event to a one should be on every mainstream media news outlet as being weird. I you know the whole thing. It is weird and even netflix had a an episode of their series leaned called the next pandemic that featured bill gates and was released in november twenty nineteen. I mean that's just weird. I'd say so it's uncanny and then when people like it's just a coincidence..

"And the actors even began going to washington and to cia headquarters with a blank slate. Not having anything for the plot because they went to what they dubbed as spike camp. Where the cia just tells them the worst fears that they expect to happen in the coming year and that then becomes the script and plot in homeland. So let me understand this correctly so homeland is just a series on showtime. It's a tv show on showtime. Yeah and how did you come upon this little story about how they get their storylines. I read an article in the new yorker. It was an interview with the producers and the writers and i saw some interviews also so this is mainstream. This isn't some in the rabbit hole thing okay and they actually show up with a blank slates. That's what they said. Wow okay. I should have refresh but you had clips at everything. But we don't have time for that. We do have time for the story. So they show up at the cia. And the says this is what we're worried about your and and then the writers of homeland go and spin that into a whatever fifteen episode drama for that c. two seasons of russian interference. Oh there were two seasons of russian interference that okay all right so that was really interesting. I was absolutely fascinated by when you brought that story. I didn't give much thought to it but you did. And you said okay. Well homeland a preview of the season out. And you brought that to the podcast to and said what was what what were you. What was homeland teasing for this season. They were teasing that the united states would be negotiating peace with the taliban in afghanistan but talks would begin to fall apart as cia starts to suspect that the taliban is instead cooperating with russia. Okay so today's news is that we are. We've been hearing this for a couple of weeks. But not not before. I remember when i first heard that there was an afghanistan. Like kind of truce in the works. It was after you told me the homeland plot. So that's kind of funny and So so now. We're looking at this at this point. The newspapers are all saying. Oh look this looks great. February twenty-ninth looks like we're going to have this peace deal. And but what. We might anticipate of predictive programming. That's what it's called like when you watch a show like if you've ever watched the pilot episode of was it called lone gunman yes okay. So there was an offshoot of the x. files on the pilot episode. is someone hijacking. A plane and driving into the twin towers which is a a scenario george. Bush told us nobody ever even considered before nine eleven in the government but they were doing it on tv so some people think. There's that's predictive programming like. They're aware of what's coming and they they tell us about it or these are coincidences. So we don't know and we don't if this is going to happen or not right but another thing that we've been talking about both on the air and also on our podcast is another like crazy coincidence theory that in october two thousand nineteen the world economic forum bill melinda gates and johns hopkins got together and did a live simulation of a novel corona virus..

"I'll tell you more about that in a little bit. But i i really want to hit the ground running because there is some interesting news afoot the and actually this is something that we have covered on our podcast before it became breaking news or news at all so today's news is there is a kind of peace a kind of ceasefire wherever you wanna call it between the us. They're technically calling it. A reduction in violence a seven day reduction in violence between the us and taliban forces in afghanistan effect this morning where we are told to expect them to sign a full on peace agreement february twenty-ninth which is a week from now and this is a nineteen year war. It is the longest war. America's ever been engaged in it was basically punishment for afghanistan harboring osama bin laden and the taliban. Which by the way if you go back and see charlie wilson's war. Some of hillary clinton's testimony before congress ozama was a cia operative back in the day and we supported the taliban. This is in the records of the taliban to undermine the secular government there and russia's connection with them because they're socialists and it prompted russia to invade afghanistan. So who knows what happened between then and nine eleven or whatever but the idea was afghanistan was bad and we needed to go in there and i and i notice also that yemen had was where a lot of the chatter was coming out about nine eleven yet. We didn't go into yemen. We really had no beef with yemen until the government that was running the show then was run out of town by the manny's so now we're in there. It's a very confusing story. But in any case one might hope that after nineteen years we could end this war in afghanistan osama bin laden. We're told from every direction is dead. And that's that should have been halfway to victory. i would think and maybe that maybe it was. But here's what is the twist that i find interesting. We're we're gonna make a prediction on the show that the steel bigly sunday brinkley. My producer here is my co host on the podcast the propaganda report and he brought story maybe was a couple of weeks ago or a month ago about how the cia has influence on our tv shows. Tell how long ago do you think that. Was that what we talked about that. On the podcast january twenty four th hypothetically how are you great. How are you great so it was. What january twenty four. So is it a battle months ago and you told us about what what was it. What did you see what you read you hear. The television homeland on showtime is known for having storylines that foreshadow political events being very prescient. First time i've ever used that word. I think in sentence appreciates recent is either way. But i like it. Go outside your comfort zone. So starting after season three they began going the show homeland..

"We are in basically a three-way standoff with hedge funds retail investors and then the giant question mark of government regulations and trading platforms. If Government Regulators decide to step in if trading platforms decide to shut down even more true that's going to have massive impact on what happens here. We really don't know how this is going to play out. And anybody who says they do take them with a grain of salt. I say that as someone who has some am seeing a little bit of gme and some Dogecoin in his portfolio. But still please be careful. Don't invest any money you aren't able to lose also another word of caution. Don't fool. This is entirely a David V Goliath situation here. Wall Street is very smart. And there are a lot of firms not named Melvin capital or Citadel some of those firms were already long on GameStop many others saw what was happening and took out big positions. So while this has often been framed as Wall Street vs. Reddit that's not entirely accurate but for retail investors their choice might actually be a bit of a silver lining because what it means that the deck is not entirely stacked against you plenty of uber rich people have a lot to gain from this short squeeze as well. If it was all about money versus a bunch of people on Reddit. Well, I think history tells us who's going to win that but there's a lot of money on the GameStop side too. So who knows how this is going to play out wage. It's important to recognize that all the billionaires who are tweeting out their support. I'm looking at you Elon Musk and Mark Cuban might not be doing that entirely for altruistic reasons. Just a heads up dead. Like I said who the hell knows how it plays out. What I do know is that I'm not a financial adviser and that we just like this stock. I've got more content for y'all over this weekend too great podcasts. Actually the first thoughts on this topic it is with Victor KO, he's a partner and Analyst at RSM one of the leading accounting firms in the US. We were actually already scheduled for a show on Thursday prior to all the GameStop's breaking out. So we spent the first fifteen minutes talking GameStop the stocks what's going on here part of my explanation I pulled from was from that podcast, but you're better off Victor explained to you because he's smarter than I am and then the second half of that podcast is actually about the Roblox IPO and what the company gained by delaying that initial public offering of the company went from an eight billion dollar valuation the early part of 2022 Twenty Eight billion. 28 billion dollar valuation off their last series age funding round with just closed last month. So we talked about that rapidly growing valuation as well as discords which ruins 3.5 billion to 7 billion / 6 months and sort of where gaming stocks are at right now where these IPOs are eventually leading where valuations are going all that kind of good stuff. And then our second show over the weekend is another really good one in my opinion. I talked with Mark Debbie's the program director of the University of california-irvine esport. UCI is arguably the leader when he comes to e-sports infrastructure in colleges across the u.s. They have one of the top competitive teams. They also have a really in-depth research department. They have an awesome Arena spooky Maine once put $50,000 down in scholarships for players in their program. It's a really interesting unique program and Mark has been one of the leaders of ecology sports for almost a dog. Paid now actually since the UCI program was created back in 2015, and he's been working in this space before that. So if you want his thoughts oncology Sports in general there

It's effectively a bet on companies a going-out-of-business or at least continuing to decline. That's why the names being thrown out today are companies on the decline GameStop AMC Theaters Nokia Blackberry Etc wage. Some hedge funds would absolutely stupid with these short positions. Sometimes taking out a larger position than actual stocks available. You know classic Wall Street stuff one. Such firm was Melvin Capital took out a massive short position primarily on GameStop, then Wall Street bets erratic Community filled with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. "WSB. All right. Guess where the scammers are heading. Now. Are you ready? Yes. Instagram's didn't tell you more about that. We're going to be talking about some great apps that you wanna make sure that you have on your phone and then later on guess where else. The hackers are going after your printer crazy stuff. Phone lines are open one triple eight eight to five fifty to fifty four is way to join us. Then there's of course, Andrew babinski in the Kim Komando show man cave. Kimmy Andrew Joe in Peoria, Illinois is a small business owner has about fifteen employees and his employees's. He would like them to have phone conversations and text conversations with the customers. Okay. Now, again, they're small business. So unfortunately, he's not purchasing cell phones for them to use. So he's asking them to use their personal cell phones. And they're like, wait a minute. Hello. Can I give my cell phone number to a customer? They don't wanna do that. And then, you know, then you're looking at what if the employee quits you? So he wants to know is there a way to give a phone number out four to a customer and still have his employees use their personal cell phones to communicate. Yeah. There is. What's your next caller? All right. We have a minute. You gotta tell him. Right. Hi, Joe what kind of business? Do you have? Business. That's we do pool. Inspired. Oh, awesome. You should be coming down to Phoenix. I think every house in Phoenix has a pool or spa. Degree. But you know, we just. Tax here. So I think I'll stay was seventy degrees. Minus seventy here. Oh, I see. So so what happens to a pool when it's negative seventy degrees. Well, it's got to be put away the right way. So we win or is it, you know, we everything's fine. We we just make sure that all the line draining to and from the bull winterized and everything's ok does not a big deal. Awesome. Okay. All right. So you have you said you have about fifteen employees. That's correct. And you want to be able to have them use their own phone. Do you subsidize their phones? No, we don't, you know, pretty much everybody nowadays seems like they have unlimited text me and call. So that's never been an issue, but I want to respect their privacy. And I don't want them have to get out phone number. Yeah. Well, you know, there's a couple of things you can do. There are some apps out there that will give a second number to a phone. But they do charge. I mean, you have one is an unlimited monthly plan. It's about five dollars a month. It's called burner. Okay. And then another one is called hushed. And they also have an unlimited plan for about five dollars. And so basically on Android or iphone just as a really simple way to not have to give out your personal cell phone number and not just in your situation. But let's say, for example, if you're trying to sell something on Craigslist. The last thing you want to do is put your personal cell phone number to Craigslist ad. Another thing you might want to look at is Google voice. And I would probably be inclined to look at that solution. Because with Google voice. You can sign up and they can sign up, but with Google voice, you have different capabilities, meaning that you can get that second number on the phone in addition to that you can get all your voicemails transcribed. You can forward that number to another number. So let's say, for example, an employee quits. Hey. And they were using a Google voice phone number. Well, what you could do is then take that Google voice phone number and forward it back to you. So that this way you don't miss any customer calls. Oh, okay. Because it's always easier to keep a current customer than to go. Find a new one. Right. Absolutely. So and Google voice is free. Better. Yeah. So I think for everything that you're talking about instead of going through the apps worrying about all that, you know, take a look at Google voice. There's a lot a ton of capabilities, you can send and receive text messages voicemails as I mentioned with transcription you can forward your calls your text messages, and your voicemails to your personal or your office phone keep in mind that even though Google voice is free. If they don't have unlimited minutes, it will be using some of that. But again, just check out Google voice to awesome, tons of tons of videos over at the Google YouTube channel about how to get to work, and and some nuances, and if you need any additional help we also have some guides about voice over a committed dot com. Of course, that's KOA dot com. All right. Let's go ahead and talk about remote PC remote PC by. I drive offers real time remote access to PC's and Macs from anywhere and just this past week. I got an Email from a gentleman who said that he's been using go to my PC and go to my PC's raising their prices yet again, and we told them about remote PC for my drive. Then he went ahead and told us this whole story about how he had backed up his office computers onto i-drive and then the drive crashed. And then he would have lost seven years worth of data.
