"Idea because we haven't seen it in the NFL. All right, a couple more here about things related to this season. They're playing each other this weekend. It looks like it's gonna be a case Keenum revenge game. Who is more likely to make the conference championship game, Vikings or bills? Bills. Right now, you would have to say it's buffalo. Although I think that the NFC is arguably more wide open. I just look when the bills are at their best. They have dominated opponents. I was at the game in Buffalo a week three week two, week two, I think it was. The Monday night game against the Titans. Where that's a solid Titans team. They obviously are shorthanded and a lot of spots and offense where they got some issues. But they put a points. And nobody could stop Stephon Diggs and they took it to a really tough team that does not get blown out off, and they blew them out. We haven't seen the Vikings do that. And that's not a knock on what they're doing. Kevin O'Connell deserves a world of credit for taking a team that lost so many close games over recent years and saying we're going to be situational masters. We're going to know in these big moments, how we're going to operate. We're going to be good in the red zone. We're going to be good when it counts. And they've done it. You still know, and we talked about with Harrison Smith yesterday. You get to that point in midway through every game where you're like, oh man, this doesn't look the best. They're finding ways to pull it out. Until you see, and this is something that when time people in the analytics community, they'll always say this. The best teams blow out inferior opponents. Yes, it matters that you are winning close games because there's something to that, but the best teams blow out inferior opponents. The Vikings have faced some teams that are struggling have not blown people out. There are very good team at this state and they got a ton of weapons and they should get better because you got guys like Justin Jefferson and Dalvin cook and Adam Thielen on that roster. But the bills when we've seen them with Josh Allen playing his best. They've been really, really impressive, so I gotta go bills. But that's one thing about the bills though and close games they've struggled. They're really good, like ten plus points per game, Josh Allen's record is kind of amazing. And they're shorthanded in the secondary right now with players out now for this week's game. That's a blow. He's dealt with some injuries through the course of this season. So you have to look at those things. In terms of how they're going to impact you, they didn't make a huge trade. They did trade for a safety. It was like a down the line guy at the deadline. But they didn't make a big move. So yeah, you do have some questions there. But Josh Allen or Kirk Cousins, OneDrive, the bills offense or the Vikings offense, OneDrive. Again, maybe I'll feel differently in January. Again, the Vikings are really good team. Yeah, TJ hawkinson really kind of fit in well last week. They really he played, they put him into the playbook right away when he had 9 catches. I couldn't believe it. I talked to Kevin O'Connell, interviewed him for NFL network before the game. And O'Connell told me he's like, you're going to people are going to be surprised how much hawkinson plays. And then so after we did the interview, I walked up to him, and was like, hey, Kevin, so let me get this straight. How many packages does he in? He's like, basically all of them? He's not going to play 21 personnel because we've got Johnny munt and somebody else who are going to be out there, but everything else I'm like, red zone everything's like, yeah. So we're working with the 10 p.m. on Tuesday. Crash course we were like, hey, just let us know what you're comfortable with. Hawkins was like, yeah, bring it on. And he went out there and just, it was the first drive. Big play, but a big play in the red zone. I mean, that looks like that could be a piece. I understand why the Lions traded hawkinson because second round pick for a team that's probably not. He's not going to be the difference between them, winning the Super Bowl this year and not. And you're not going to sign them in their opinion. He wasn't going to be one of their core players, so you move on from them. But for the Vikings, a team that needed that shot, it was a bold move by kwesi adolfo mensa. First of all, to engage with the Lions, your division rival, which he did during the draft two, he traded them to pick that they use to take Jameson Williams. And Vikings fans went nuts. All my buddies were Vikings fans were emailing about why in the world new trade within the division. He traded it in the vision with Green Bay during the draft two. Well then, because during the season, Lions communication open, what do you think about trade and TJ hawkinson and that thing came together quickly? All right, last one, 5 win team most likely to make the playoffs. Chargers, patriots, Bengals. Right now charger to the 7th seed, but they all have 5 wins. The chargers are another team that I look at and say they should get better, but they're just so decimated by the injuries. They should get back to Mike Williams and Michael Williams should be back in he's not probably not this week, but maybe next week. Keenan Allen, hopefully within the month, Joey Bosa, maybe a month or so away, they're going to get some reinforcements here. And they're finding ways to win. For whatever the focus on the fourth down calls and those things like the reality is, how many coaches have done better job of the brand's daily overcoming those injuries through the course of this season. I mean, they're playing above some stuff here. But I still think it's the Bengals in this case. Javar chase will get back. They're going to go through some bumps right now because they're without their most versatile toughest weapon on offense. But Joe burrow, we know exactly what he is. Luana rumo gets that defense playing so hard, even though they don't have a lot of frontline types of guys. They got Trey Henderson. They got von bell who's playing it really high level. But the way that they play and how disciplined they are and the juice that they bring, I just think you can't bet against the Bengals. Out of that group. And I didn't mention the Patriots. We'll see. But there's a lot a lot they got to get better at. Not a lot that inspiring as a pat's fan. They're trying to, I mean, they're trying to figure some things out right now. Mac Jones is still playing with a really significant injury. Don't forget that. I mean, he's off the injury report now, but he's coming back from a high ankle sprain. Ask any player. If you have that injury, you feel it. Even when you're past the treatment phase, you're back to plane, you feel that injury.

"Aren't black and white. Think red. Here we go to rob wood fork. All right, Thursday Night Football in Cincinnati. We are about midway through the second quarter with the Bengals in front of the undefeated Miami Dolphins 7 to 6 and Joe burrow. Throwing for 70 yards, 6 of 11 passing in his meeting with to a tongue of Iowa. You may recall at a pretty epic game against each other in college. To us so far, a 110 passing yards, but does have an interception to von bell in this first half. The Washington commanders looking likely to go into Dallas without Wes Schweitzer after he remained sidelined in practice by a concussion, Charles Leno limited in today's practice, so it's not looking good as they walk into that cowboys pass rush and Dave Johnson said in this week's D.C. sports auto, the 9 sacks Washington gave up against Philly. Last week, it equals the amount the 1991 Super Bowl team gave up that whole season. And that was with Mark rippon, holy moved about four steps in the pocket, and that was it. And yet he was only sacked 9 times. So I think it just defines it as much as we talk about all kinds of schemes and plans in this and that. If you don't have that elite playmaking quarterback, then you better have an offensive line or you're going nowhere. Or in all black uniform. How do you feel about the black uniforms, Michelle? I like it. Yeah, I do. I think they look clean It's just the helmet, man. I don't like the numbers on the side of the mountain. But I do. Put the W there. And then you just have the random W in the middle. We talked about it in the D.C. sports auto on WTO B dot com or wherever you get your podcasts, the nationals off today, they'll actually pull double duty tomorrow as they try to duck the storm, the remnants of hurricane Ian expected to hit our area this weekend. So the Saturday night game against the Phillies has actually been moved up to 1 p.m. tomorrow. Rob Woodford WTO sports

"Like you're going to be disappointed pain that you're going to not get as much AP right out there on third down or if you believe everything you're reading from Bengals can't that Chris Evans is suddenly going to have a massive role in terms of everything that the Bengals want to do. You of course mention mix in who did have a career, your third in rushing yards fourth and touchdowns and incredibly high usage rate. His raw numbers though did definitely look a heck of a lot better than some of his efficiency metrics and a lot of that, of course, can be attributed to an offensive line that you well chronicled. I'll left a lot to be desired when you look at how it finished in the Super Bowl. As far as this team defensively, Lou Anna rumo probably did an underrated job getting them to play up to their potential and arguably exceeding expectations. You look at what they added this off season, mainly in the draft Dax sale and cam day cam Taylor Britt to kind of fortify that secondary. You do lose Larry ogan Joby up front. The impending drama is the uncertain contract situation around Jesse Bates, will he or won't he be out there when they start playing meaningful football. When you look at this bangles team, they obviously need BJ hill and DJ reader to hold up against the run with big bodies on the interior. Trey hendrickson was an expensive deal going into last year, but clearly upgraded what this team was able to do in terms of bringing pressure. His quarterback hits his sack contributions hard to truly quantify exactly what he meant to that defensive unit overall. But you look at the bangle stop group and there's no doubt they overachieve last year. Are they able to do so again this season? You know, that's the interesting debate. Because I know Bengals fans were upset with us, but as I, here's the thing is like even you right there, you think they overachieved last year. They had the third most expensive defensive line, their third most expensive secondary. When you put it in that context, you should expect good play. And I just, that was the problem when we would assess the bangles last year. It's like when you put it in this context, they're not as good as you think. I will say this though, right? Everyone was focused on Joe burrow and how electric their weapons were. The Bengals defense was quietly respectable, right? They did. They made the leap from 27th to 19th and year over year schedule adjusted defensive efficiency. But again, you put it in the context of what was spent financially to get there. And it's not as impressive. And as these offensive players need new deals, you know what that means to defensive spending. We're seeing it with Jesse Bates as you alluded to. There's a reason they went out and got Dax hell in the first round. This is Jessie Bates last stand for leverage knowing that they want to compete for Super Bowl this year. It has to be done. Let's see how long he holds ground. One thing is crystal clear of last season's Bengals defense though. Any question we had about their unit? It got answered in a positive manner. We weren't sure what luanna rumo was as a defensive mind. Well, even though he hadn't really shown to any point in his career that he was excellent, he did prove to be a damn good game planner and fantastic within game adjustments down the stretch Super Bowl run. So you get like a check mark there. Then we looked at Trey hendrickson. We know the money they spent. And the question we had was, could he get after the passer at the same rate in an expanded role as what he showed as a well rested situational rusher in New Orleans. Yes, holy cow. And hendrickson had a 16% pressure rate on pass rush snaps finished top ten in pass rush win rate accounted for 41% of the bangla sacks. Like check mark. And then we were like, how are the Bengals linebackers going to hold up knowing they don't really allocate resources there? And even though the linebacker play wasn't good, both Logan Wilson and Jermaine Pratt simultaneously had their best season in the league effort. A relative check mark there. And then the cast of inexpensive secondary misfits with shinobi Wu Z von bell and Mike Hilton, they weren't wanted in their previous home, formed a really respectable secondary. Each of those guys far exceeded their contract value. Each of those guys simultaneously graded out as having their best seasons ever. In a season in which they eclipsed at least 900 snaps, so you get a check mark there. Every question marked the Bengals defense had last season. Had a positive answer. Now I'm interested to see how that gets followed up this season. Cincinnati has the fourth most expensive defense. You make a Super Bowl run. You have to be better than below average in 2022. Fortunately, the schedule of opposing offense is dipped slightly. Bengals face an average schedule of offenses. That's not too daunting for playing in the AFC when you put it in that AFC context. And certainly that can become easier if roger extends Watson suspension, knowing both those games against Cleveland are in late October in the middle of December. I do like some of the young depth pieces added, right? Dax hill is savvy. He can play in the slot or safety cam Taylor Britt you mentioned has a load of talent, let's see if you can put that together.

"Yeah, so maybe they view Charles as having that kind of potential anyways. We get back to the jets now at ten. So Garrett Wilson at ten. And, you know, there were some conversations. I think DJ, you talked about Garret Wilson, maybe going to them at four because they wanted to play makeup. So I put it. And so now you get him at ten, you got a guy to pair with more on the outside, they can throw it all over the yard. They're better up front. You're just a nice fit. To me, for them to come out with that daily double with what they got with sauce gardener and Garrett Wilson. The fun thing about it. All ones are going to be must see is going to be great at training camp, and you think about what that receiving core looked like a couple of years ago and look at what it looks like now. And again, now Corey Davis gets slotted differently. Now you look at him differently. He still got barrios. Yeah, you've got I've been told has been off the charts in the off season stuff. It's going to be fun. I think everybody's kind of forgotten. They go 5, they go 5 deep at wide out. And what they're doing to is they're baking in. Think about the tight ends, right? CJ uzama. They ended up getting record in this draft. They're going to have so many easy completions baked in. You talk about the Shanahan scheme all the time. You start the game, but you should start the game with 7, 8 completions, just off just a bubbles and quicks and boots. And just making it easy for Zach Wilson to so I think that's the plan there. All right, I'm up with Chris olave. So we go back to back Ohio State whiteouts, the saints move up for a lave. I had talked to a general manager, a Super Bowl in general manager, a couple of days before the draft that he was not buying this business with the saints not taking a quarterback. I said, everybody's told me they're not taking a quarterback. They think they're close. They want a couple of good players. And he goes, how in the world do you trade a future one in a future two and you're going to come away with a receiver and a tackle? He said, that just doesn't make any sense to me. And that's what they did. That's exactly what they did. They feel like they're close and they started to see that run on whiteouts and they were like, we're not sitting back here and letting this fall to us because it's not going to fall away. So they went up and got crystal lobby. And kristo lobby was together. I thought it was the perfect compliment to my certainly. Oh, they love them. And they love Ohio State. Nobody loves Ohio State. Last year. Von bell. The whole secretary used to be Ohio. Yeah, Marshawn Lattimore, a whole deal. Yeah. So anyways, what do you got next? All right, next up, I've got the Detroit Lions who made the biggest move up in the first round, moving up 20 picks, 32 to 12 trading with Washington to get the wide receiver out of Alabama, Jameson Williams. So third straight wide receiver with Columbus, Ohio connections there, which is kind of nice. Be honest, be honest. 'cause I was on the spot when this trade happened. Was there any part of your being that thought that was for James Williams? Not a chance. That happened. Not a single. I thought it was Jermaine Johnson.

"Cooper Cup. I mean, you can't say it. I mean, if you're asking me somebody other than Cooper Cup, probably van Jefferson. He's not getting a lot of attention. And, you know, what concerns me is how do the Bengals are how do the rams isolate Eli Apple? Because Eli Apple can get beat over the top. And he has. And that's where I think that's where I think Sean mcvay is going to try to attack this Bengals defense. You're going to see a lot of passes directed towards Eli Apple early in this game. And I'm curious like that. In Boston, we all love Brad marchand. He's a pest, right? But we all love him 'cause he's Brad Marshall. The Bengals fans feel the same way about Eli Apple or they kind of like your Eli Apple maybe go sit in the corner for a little bit. Hot and cold. Look, Eli made, he made a great play in the Tennessee game that helped him win the game. There's no doubt about that. He dropped the pick 6 and over time on mahomes on second down. Everybody remembers the interception that Jesse base tips the ball to von bell and sets up the game winning field goal. The right before that, it was Eli Apple with a chance to intercept Patrick Mahomes easily run it into the end zone games over at that moment. Bengal fans get a little nervous when you talk Eli Apple. It's hot and cold. I'm trying to think of a good patriot comparison to a player in the secondary over the years. I don't know if sante Samuel is a good analogy or not. Because he was never that good, yeah. Yeah. Right. But he is that kind of hot and cold player. Still the woozie has had his struggles. In the playoffs, is somebody also that could be picked on a little bit..

"The only thing missing from his mantle coming into this year was a playoff victory. Now of course he has a chance for that elusive Super Bowl and can shed that tag that's unfairly been attached to him as an underachiever as the headman for the Detroit lines. When you dig into some of what Stafford has been best at, this postseason, it's pretty simple. When the game has mattered most, that's when staffords raised his level of play. He led the rams to 13 points late when they trailed 17 7 to race the ten point deficit, which contributed to the biggest comeback and championship game history. In that span he was 11 of 14 for a 121 yards and one touchdown. And for Matthew Stafford, he had struggled under pressure this season. He's eviscerated the blitz. He'd struggled against zone coverage throughout the regular season, but when you look at his passer rating in the postseason, one 13 and a half versus his own compared to 89 and a half during the regular season. Where do the rams in your opinion have an advantage when it comes to throwing the football against his Bengals defense? Specific to the rams passing against the Bengals secondary and defense in general. I think when you look in its simplest format its core, the thing Cincinnati's defense does is the way you want to defend Matthew Stafford theoretically. And you hit on that there at the top. You don't want to blitz Matthew Stafford in the Bengals, bottom 7 and blitz rate this season in the playoffs. You look at Louisiana room. He only sent blitz on 15% of opponent third downs. So they've kind of got that element of the defense down pat with how you want to defend Stafford on the season though if you look Cincinnati's played an above average rate of zone coverage. And all the rave like the last two weeks, it was about Lou and rumo's rush three and drop 8 and where he effectively had Sam Hubbard, his defensive end drop in to coverage after he reads pass since he played with three safeties on the field and Lou would basically have von bell crashed down into the middle of the field. In the chiefs game bell would crash down in the middle of the field kind of eliminate some of those crossers, those middles, eliminate Kelsey a little bit as that helped defender. He also acted as a spy on mahomes. Now, you can't spy Stafford with this with this kind of I wouldn't think you don't want to spy to Stafford obviously. Well, you can't spy. I'm not sure it'd be in their best interest to eliminate Matthew Stafford's legs is a huge component of what the rams want to do offensively. Right. And so I think when you look at the rush three drop 8, it could work. Lou does a pretty good job in that in terms of morphing from manda zone did use that more man in the second half against the chiefs knowing how they were calling the game that these refs weren't going to impact things. So he's like, hey, we're going to use a little bit more in. But typically, he is going to use a touch more zone. I think after two weeks of film, you would understand that using a little bit more zone against Stafford would be the right approach here. We talked about that in the forty-niners, rams game, two weeks ago. So first, you can't blitz Stafford. Is EPA jumps to a positive .53 EPA per pass to about an even mark when not blitzed. Yards per pass attempt increased 1.2 yards his success rate surges 14% versus the blitz. Bengals don't blitz, checkmark. You talked about Stafford in his zone, raiding dips 42 points on our numbers against zone compared to man. He makes far more mistakes. EPA drops, touchdowns drop interceptions increase versus zone. We know Stafford likes to show off his arm talent for time to time completely understandable, Fitz balls and spaces that probably shouldn't be attempted by most quarterbacks. So when you drop more guys in the coverage, staffords production dips a little bit. So if Anna rumo goes with his rush three drop 8 and it's more of his own concept, that's the best way to potentially hinder Stafford. 3.9 yards an attempt on 49 dropbacks against just three rushers this season for staffords. Small sample size, but certainly enough to incorporate in your game plan. Now, I do think if the bangles are showing heavier boxes on first down, that would be the time to pass. We know the Bengals are super sensitive to play action. Bottom 5 defending it, they're also 32nd defense of pass efficiency on first down. But at the end of the day, you can do all the quirky things you want with your scheme. But a lot of this comes down to the jimmies and Joe's. And if you're looking the rams right now 5 O against past defenses 20th or worst inefficiency this season, bangles are 24th. If an aroma with his rush three drop 8, do slow down Stafford a little bit, I think it does open some things up for the rams running game talk. And when you speak about the rams running game, it's largely been bottled up over each of the last couple of weeks, but clearly a step down in class when you go from playing the Tampa Bay bucks, defensive front, the forty-niners defensive front versus what they're going to encounter in the form of the Cincinnati Bengals. Cam Akers, he's averaged just 2.8 yards per carry this postseason, led the team in rushing each of the last two games. Sony Michelle has kind of been the forgotten man just 11 carries for 20 yards over the last two games, but he is the guy that was the bell cow throughout the regular season. It has a little bit more experience as far as having actually played and won a Super Bowl as a member of the New England Patriots. So if you're the rams and the bangles elect to go with this rush three drop a type approach, do you think we see a much more concerted effort from this rams offense to giving the ball the cam Akers running the ball and trying to pick up four or 5 yards setting up second and third and shorts? One thing we I think have to give mcvay a lot of credit for is mixing up the game plans the last four weeks. So it's really kind of tough to anticipate what he's going to do here. But if you look in two of the games, he's been super run heavy. The other two games he's come out and attack through the air with Stafford. If you look at some of the early down run rates the first three quarters over the last month, you're looking at like a 52 48 early down split of past to run. So he's been very balanced in that sense. I think this is interesting. There are some obvious avenues for Cooper cop and OBJ the way he's coming on now these acclimated into the offense and Stafford has been very good in certain instances, but when you look at opponent and you start to think about McVeigh at times, or you can get a little squirrely when the stakes are high, and then if we see this rush three drop 8, I think we could see a fair amount of running early. And it would make sense to test that when you hit it perfectly. You're dropping down in class against the Bengals run defense. You'll get the last four weeks. The rams have faced the forty-niners run defense twice. The Cardinals with JJ watt returning, and the Buccaneers with Barrett, JPP and Levante Davis, all back on the front 7. For the entire season, those three defenses are second, third, and 7th in EPA per Russia out in early downs the first three quarters, and that's including games where some of those horses were out that I just mentioned were turned into.

"Now we're heading to Belgium where in the city of Antwerp, a new design collection apart launches later this week. 20 unique products, the outcome of collaborations between designers and creative talent will be available to purchase at a range of the city's bricks and mortar retailers. The Belgian based artist and musician baloji curated the lineup and paired the likes of fashion designers raf simons and Walter Van Buren dong with makers from the art music film and retail sectors. As well as establish artists, emerging designers also featured on the roster. We spoke to the project curator baloji to find out how he approached the curation. As a creator of my job was suggesting some different types of creatives to work with the designers and to have an idea of what type of item we could come up with. I think one of the first ones that I worked on was, for example, Walter von bell don't to make as you know, it's a legendary designer for mantra. It's been working for more than 40 years in fashion and is a well established extremely avant garde designer. And I thought it was interesting to make in collaborate with the photographer Muslim Rabat. American photo was working on a very abstract photography that involved mask, mask is also very important in the work of Walter. So I thought these two could be a perfect match to create something exclusive for this project for example. I wanted to have on an equal level to have male and female designer. So that was a very important expect. What's very important to have some cloud that's questioned the ability of the production process. And also wanted to have some very I want to say the word iconic and I should stick with it. Personality, I really describe as a CDO fashion as somebody like rap Simon is really identified to Antwerp. I think the shop is really something that is really the city of entrepreneur and the memory that work on that part, Flanders, D.C., to make sure that they have shops close to the museum, all shops are very meaningful in terms of their approach on fashion and access to fashion designer brands. For the young designer, I think it's very interesting for them to become fronted to the market. The shop retailer with this different dynamics, which still be different, and I think for names like this one that have Siemens. It's just more to challenge themselves to create something that is different for what they normally do in terms of creation. So they work with different people, different environments..

"For every single bank roll out there. If you haven't already started with playing with FanDuel, what are you waiting for? Get into the game this weekend and pain. I think both you and I have very similar sentiments, so we're gonna have to fake a little bit of enthusiasm this week. Not the most attractive from a wagering perspective in the National Football League. No, not at all. We are going to have to treat this card like most women have treated us our entire lives. And we're going to have to navigate this board. We're going to have to fake it a little bit. It's just ugly. Yeah, I mean, there's and it's not overly shocking, right? A bunch of double digit games that are tough to navigate. Not the best matchups in general. I just, it's a weird board this week. And I think just talking to everyone that I have throughout the course of the week, that was kind of the same sentiment. It would be interesting to hear what John has when we bring him in to see what the early action looks like as my guess is the volume despite a massive weekend last week for the players is a little bit down right now. Oh, I'd have to imagine that's going to be the case like you said, John Sheeran will be with us later on in the show. He joins us every Thursday. And typically when you look at the NFL slate, a marquee matchup on Thursday night is what starts to draw people in. It kicks off a lot of those exotics. Clearly, Denver and Cleveland were not quite sure who's going to be out there. There's some talk that maybe the browns would start a cheerleader on their offensive line or integrate a beer vendor as a potential skill position player. Well, of course, get to that game as well with a unique breakdown there, but I can tell you you and I are both counting the days until next Thursday when we get the showdown between Green Bay and Arizona to start NFL week 8. But let's kick things off in the AFC north, where the surprising Cincinnati Bengals find themselves at four and two. They'll travel to Baltimore to take on the ravens, you're looking at this number, Baltimore, a 6 and a half point favorite fan to a sports book total in the game sits at 47. Last year, while it wasn't much of a rivalry whatsoever. The ravens outscored the Bengal 65 to 6 in the two meetings this season ago, Lamar has won the last three meetings against the Bengals by 35, 24 and 36 points last meeting between these teams as well, the ravens ran for 400 plus yards. This year appears to be a little bit different, though. The ravens offense, more balanced, they dynamic, passing attack that they can bring to the table, and suddenly the bangles have a defense after spending pain insider term of bazillion dollars to fortify their defensive line and address some of their concerns in the secondary checking in with a yards per play of 5.1. Second best in the league. Are you more excited to see Joe burrow against this Wink Martindale defense or Lamar Jackson match up against the resurgent Bengal stop unit? Let's go with ravens offense to start. And I think this is kind of the fun part of the matchup because you mentioned the ravens dominance. And that will be a good barometer for us to kind of figure out how far the Bengals defense is actually come. They're playing extremely confident right now. And the reason they went out and spent as you alluded to on DJ reader and Larry oak and Joby and Hendrix and re signed a very good run setting edge and Hubbard, was for this matchup twice a year. Readers one of the best run stuffing interior alignment, Hubbard, although a little down this year has been one of the best if not the best run setting edge. The Bengals through 6 weeks, top ten and run stop win rate, you look at the entire totality of the defense fourth in defense of Russia efficiency. So it appear on paper, the Bengals have some of the pedigree it takes to contain the ravens run game. You have two safeties and von bell and Jessie Bates that can crash down and are plus tacklers. A year ago, if you go back and actually focus on the game that mattered, it was week 5. A lesser version of the Bengals defense actually held the ravens to 20. Just a 40% success rate 5.4 yards a play overall. I think since he is better equipped to stop the run. But where it does get interesting is where you hint it at is through the air. Mark Andrews has been on fire. Hollywood Brown having his best season metrically Rashad Bateman returned last week four catches on 6 targets all four extended drives. The bangles are going to be tested through the air, and that is the interesting part of the defense and maybe it is overachieving a little bit, but Logan Wilson, the kid from Wyoming, he's going to be tasked with defending Mark Andrews. And through 6 weeks, 59 passer rating allowed on 26 targets. He's got four interceptions. So he's done a good job in coverage. Bengals are top 5 in defense of efficiency in regards to defending tight ends and running backs. It looks like a change of scenery for qdoba was done wonders. He's been one of the best cover corners in the league so far this year. The polarizing Eli Apple. I think that's probably the best word to use for him. He has played two of his better games over the last three weeks of his career. So those three are going to have to have big days to neutralize the ravens pass attack, but I do think you will see a Bengals defense that's a little bit better equipped to stop the ground game. And as I alluded to, even though you mentioned a bunch of numbers that would support the Bengals having difficult times stopping the run. And that has been the case over the years. If you focus on the data point last year that actually had a team focused on the ravens in week 5 and they didn't pack their bags for their vacation in the final week of the season in a season. That was lost. I think there's some signs here that the Bengals might be okay, at least stopping the ground portion of the Raven's offense. Yeah, and I think when you look at this ravens offense, clearly the running back trio or whatever the hell we want to call it what's going on there and John.

"Mike tomlin's press conference on tuesday september twenty first. Yes when i hear that date i think of earth wind and fire but anyway coach tomlin did his regularly scheduled press conference at noon right away he off by talking about what just happened the previous week with the steelers when they fell in defeat in their home. Opener to the las vegas raters. He's one of the big things. That coach tom talked about was playmaking in the second half. He said he talked to a group of players at halftime about how they needed to. Have you know the bigger plays in the second half and that is what happened. What happened is that the vegas raiders made more plays in the second half coach. Tomlin specifically mentioned the sixty one yard touchdown that was obvious To just about everyone that that's the kind of big plays that they were talking about Coach tomlin said that the steelers did not get enough splash in general he said especially on special teams like they did the week before where they got. That splash splash play. Which was the difference in the game. Although he said he was very happy with the good job at the punt team was doing. You just didn't get a big splash play From like the punt return team or things of that nature. He also addressed. You know putting tyson alalu on the i r that That was something that had been reported the day before wanted to acknowledge that as he got into the injuries Talked about t. J. watt with his groin injury and also added. Alex highsmith smith with having a groin injury which is interesting because it's not as much in addition as it is an acknowledgement that it was there in week one and probably hadn't gone away completely so that you got both watt and highsmith with the groin. You've got bush in hayden Working their way back with the groin injuries. So coach tomlin specifically address. Those he also added. Ben rothlisberger to the list with a left peck injury. That could Reduce his time in practice during the week. Which is interesting. Because ben rothlisberger doesn't usually practice on wednesday anyway but it was probably more of you know acknowledging the fact that when ben rothlisberger shows up that he's not practicing on wednesday. It's probably not going to say coach's decision. It's probably going to say Peck injury now. This isn't what coach tomlin said. This was my own inference. That that's something that we will see on the injury report tomorrow whether or not that affects rothlisberger going forward this week Coach tomlin didn't talk about the situation in depth like he was overly concerned about it but he did mention one of the thing that i'll get to after he mentioned one other name of deonte. Johnson says he looks better not great but better So not looking anything. Long-term there but don't know if we'll be able to play this week coach. Tom didn't specifically say anything about this week. But i think that was his way of saying that he looks better but not great. One thing that could shaalan talked about. And this comes back to the ben rothlisberger and all these other injuries is how in game injuries are much harder to deal with than the known injuries as you're preparing for the week i'm gonna you know kinda go off on my own little talk you for for a few seconds about that was also the issue with last week with. Joe haden devon bushes injuries coming on friday. It was the last day of the team preparing and then at the last second. They're kind of scraping together. What they're gonna do not having these guys because they got injured so late in the week so late week injuries in game injuries. Those are tough to deal with but coach tomlin talks about preparing for them. Now makes it a whole different ballgame. He went onto to highlight some things With the cincinnati. Bengals coming up. He talked about their improved defensive interior. And how they have how. They have a lot of depth there. He obviously mentioned the starting safeties. And how. And that's a really good tandem of jesse bateson von bell and the things that they're doing there on offense he talked about joe mixing and now he's the second leading rusher in the nfl right now. also talked about it improved. Run game they got their run game coordinator. I'm pretty sure it was offensive. Line coach ede mentioned the name. I can't remember what it was right now. back to them that he hadn't been there since two thousand eighteen so kind of looks at no gives them a little idea of their philosophy in the run game and he talked about Joe borough in the receivers. He specifically mentioned tyler boyd That's someone that the steelers. He said that they used to want to use to use someone like mike hilton to combat him. But now mike hilton is on the other side line. Even mentioned later on the press conference. Sean davis saw both of those players are now in cincinnati The biggest thing is this is afc north ball. You gotta get ready for afc north ball. It's just a whole different monster. From that point. They moved into the question and answer period of of the of the press conference Coach tomlin of. I'm going to highlight most of these. Some of these were multi part questions and then then he would answer either one part or one way or the other Some of the some of the questions were asking kind of the same thing but to try to give an overall feel for how it all went down. He was specifically asked if there would be any changes to the offensive line and he emphatically said no that was the second part of a two part question and he insisted on answering it. I He was also asked about if he knows exactly. When ben rothlisberger was hurt he said he did not. He's not even sure. If ben no specifically he was asked about the no huddle as Ben rothlisberger made a comment about not having it in the arsenal last week and coach tomlin said that that was last week's plan that know how to something they've done in the past and there's no reason for them to not have it but last week's plan doesn't mean that that's this week's plan He he was also give it another question about banned in the receivers being on the same page. He didn't even let the question finish. He shot that down real quick. Answer that that yeah. He's he's satisfied. With how ben in the receivers are when it comes to beat on the same page I know fans are into fans a little bit more concerned about that but coach tomlin shut that down right away. was also.

"Check that out leaving rating to if you could appreciate that and hello. I'm seeing a lot way. More hallows from some people joining us continuing to join us. Live good to see everybody christner and many many others get to see a lot of familiar names. A lot of new names Hello everybody thanks for joining. Thanks for listening and Be department let's roll on hough. Let's roll on just money. Says you need to get mike daniels back on. Yeah we'll try. His representation has been awesome to us by the way. So we will We will try and do what we can on that front continuing on the bengals. Vikings week one News year bengals announced their team captains. This was yesterday as well. Yes it was and they announced the seven players. Job bro tyler boy. Joe mixing a new one. Jessie bates von bell. Sam hubbard kevin huber. Now the to that kind of stand out to me in that. I will make the most comments on would be joe mixing and jessie bates mixing stands out to me. Because think back a handful. And i wanna go back in rehash you know ugly instances in the past from anybody but you know when you think back to joe mixing in the as a prospect coming out of the draft. There was kind of this other story that followed him. And i think we all know the deal. We don't need to go into the details there. you know there were just some off. Field concerns with joe mixing. He has been nothing but essentially a model citizen since entering the nfl and being with the cincinnati bengals has asserted himself as a team leader. So when i saw his name at the captain level unfortunately you know. I did think of an ugly situation years back but it also made me really proud as someone who covers the bangles a fan of the team a really proud of a guy like joe mixing who has really kind of turn things around from that ugly incident and really matured and is now a team captain of the team so kudos to him on being one of the seven captains of the team and then you look at jessie bates. That's an interesting situation because the bengals in he apparently are in a contract stalemates as contracts. Donate at this point in time they have a few days are not They haven't agree to a long term deal. Jessie bates now team captain. He's also been a big part of their marketing endeavors. That they've been really pushing out with new jersey's in everything and so he is a A captain there and you see the ones last year borough. Bell huber were captains along with Sean williams aj green. Geo bernard josh buying so Interesting stuff there but That's those are the seven captains right there. Borough boyd mixing bates bell hubbard and huber. So congratulations to those seven and got is at our In a lot of a lot of different ways. They are deserving of that designation. Unusually quarterback is the the team captain there so speaking of the team captains speaking of joe. Borough there is a a feature. That is going to be aired. I believe it's going to be on sportscenter on sunday so it it's an interview with him Talking with espn. But basically there's more talk of. Hey we have high goals as a team in terms of level of success that we want to attain and then of course the knee injury where he's at mentally where he's at physically with all of that and there were a couple of quotes that he sent out with Was with dan graziano in it was. Espn so this is probably going to be on. The full interview will be on Yes fiene and and i think their you know their website and all all kinds of different outlets but quote. None was the answer when graziano asked him if he had any concerns about his surgically repaired. left knee so quote. It shouldn't affect me at all. Meaning the knee brace. I don't really like wearing it because it's big and bulky but i don't think it'll affect my play. I think he also went on to say that. He doesn't think it's something. He will need for the entirety of his career. At least he doesn't hope so because of those reasons. So that's that's joe bureau on there and then of course you see here. The the goals for the season quote make the playoffs win the division. We really need to get better closing out games. Which is definitely something that has plagued the bengals for a while there quote we had leeds in the fourth quarter of something like seven or eight games last year and we ended up losing all of them. We just need to be better down the stretch. So they host the minnesota vikings and look while this seems like a winnable game for the bengals and they very well could win the game especially at being at home. The vikings are are pretty high quality team. That's probably going to be my. My assumption is that it's probably going to be something that is going to resemble a one score game or something that is relatively close so the bengals very well right away could have a contest in which they will need to be able to get over those hurdles of these one possession games week one last year. I mean. I don't wanna remind everybody would happen there last year but that was a one possession game You know the in subsequent weeks after that. The browns a week to the bengals played played. Catch up there but You know that was a one possession game yet. The tie with the eagles. I mean there are a lot of these situations where the bengals were in. These games had late leads all that kind of stuff and they couldn't close it out so that is a big focus which inevitably will lead to the first two points. Joe borough brought up in terms of being competitive winning the division making the playoffs all of that so that is a lie. Some interesting quotes there from joe borough. Now you've got some more quotes from his buddy on offense demar chase. I guess i should've talked about this after the depth chart. But that's okay we're going to get it anyway. Jomar chase speaks on his pre season drops. I i feel for this kid. Because there's nothing quite like trying to get over a mental hurdle and doing the work that you need to do in order to get.

That sounds awful. It is now that they've left nipper stadium. I wouldn't mind seeing them do well. Boy they'd better figure it out because they not only are they they. They bad per se but they're not entertaining. There's nothing especially when we get to football right when you get to this climate and you've got options. Why why are you watching. Fc cincinnati right. Now if you have other options because you're a fan. I get it but like they're not playing a fun brand of soccer. they're not playing an exciting style. "You know injured. And we're taking is that have are coming off an injury laden season and it just turned into an absolute turnstile with the offensive line. But when you look it's like hey let's drive penny soul but as i alluded to. That's why would have taken. But you know as i mentioned. It's like the amount of three wide receiver sets. That zack taylor plays. He believes his third. Wideout is starter. And that's just how he's ingrained. The other problem is penny. School has said that he's terrible right tackle and so if you think you already have your franchise left tackle. That's why that's partly why they didn't take because they weren't sure they could kick him right in that he would obliged to playing that position and he's proven to not be overly great from that position so he says but at some point you just a hanging to go get the best left tackle in this draft will figure out who's moving to right. We'll figure out what we're doing because right now. The interior of this offensive line is just horrific. So you have to be strong other places. But then they also went out and signed riley reef. So maybe that's the patchwork that they wanted at right tackle but again it falls in line with what they've done for the last decade like we're gonna take someone else's old scrap heaps the minnesota vikings who needs some offensive line. How like riley reef walk right. So it's just it's just a mess organizationally and where you see them. Spend more so on. The defensive side is is a little bit of an issue as well. Yeah you mentioned that spending on the defensive side. Second season arroyo. They've gone on a shopping spree so to speak in free agency this time over one hundred million dollars including allocating a huge amount of money to trey hendrickson. The pass rusher from the new orleans saints. And when you look at the bengals goner familiar faces like kara lawson gino atkins. We know wanted it out william jackson. We talked about an impact. He's going to have in a new destination and mackenzie alexander on what was a semi friendly franchise friendly bill of only one year but this is a bengals team bottom half and total defense. Each of the last five seasons worst defense against the run over the last two years and last season they gave up the most plays of twenty plus yards while also accumulating the fewest sacks definite correlation. Between what can we expect for the bengals defensively. I mean it's hard to get worse. But do we see a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel for what the stop unit can become. I'm really surprised. Lewin aroma will kept his job. But there is this bond there between him. And zack taylor. They're both in miami together. But this is really an organization that loves to procrastinate and use bubblegum to fix its holes. It's it's cincinnati. Just kind of what they do. So i i was a little surprised that they kept defensive. Coordinator is the lowest prices. Iron the first place. The bengals defense did deal with below average injury luck. So let's factor part of that in. Dj reader only played five games. He was their big signing last off season. Trae wayne's was another large. He missed the entire season with a pack but since he played a bottom ten schedule of offenses and finished sixth worst in defensive efficiency. That can happen. The scheduled projected offenses and passing. Offense does increase by tiny bit this season from a construction standpoint. You would think. Just kind of glossing over this as i did that. Cincinnati has a clue right six most expensive defensive lines seventh most expensive secondary one of the cheapest linebacker unit you like manage team analytically savvy. They really allocate their funds. Great but when you dig into the players. We've kind of hinted at this and where they've spent money. It's it's it's interesting like i. Think the defensive lines a little better than most do. But you'll let carlos lawson walk. He had a twenty four percent. Pass rush win rate last season. He signed with the jets for forty five million since he decided to spend. Forty million. On sam hubbard solid player. Number one run stop win rate but he had a pass rush win rate of ten percent six worst among qualifying defensive lineman. It's really an interesting choice to make knowing. This is a passing leak since he did sign. Trae hundreds things as you mentioned at the top there from new orleans yet. A monster season so to me. That's the definition of buying it peak after thirteen and a half sacks in the fourth is pressure right and it's difficult to project that kind of player. I know east twenty six so you know his peak might be rising but that is a tough season replicate especially when you think about this. He's only played forty five percent of snaps. The last two seasons. It's far different being arrested. Situational pass rusher going against an every down left tackle right but the defensive line is the strength of the bengals defense. They added larry ogunjobi as well but something to note since he faces a top five schedule of pass blocking offensive lines the season. So it's a massive leap. Sam hubbard needs to be better getting to the quarterback hendrickson can't regress if he's going to fill the devoid of lawson. There's question marks in the secondary. I'm not a tray winds guy. I voiced that over the years. Really bad hips thinking. He's going to fill. The void of william. Jackson is not going to happen. It's it's going to be a downgrade. They're the bengals decided to kind of go the volume route in the secondary. The last few years hoping that one guy can play to potential. So you go out. And the incas like shadow be in. Eli apple and apple reconnect with his ohio. State buddy von bell. So there's varying degrees of math with with with trae wayne's and should. Ob lie apple. Jessie bates though one of the best safeties and football. He's gonna clean up a lot of miscues from the corners. I do the mike helton signing. He's been great in the slot finished fourth and adjusted yards allowed coverage snap and a seventy one passer rating last year. He's.

I'm getting excited football. We're i mean saturdays and sundays. The bengals might not be good yet in terms of like they're not competing for a super bowl good yet but they're gonna be so interesting so interesting there's weapons you've got youth and what i hope is a new life on defense. A new lease on life defensively. Because if you look from two thousand nineteen to now who's left. Jessie bates basically your new corner new at von bell next to jessie bates. Nobody really returning it. Linebacker dunlap and gino gone upper. Three right yeah. But back in nineteen he was still a rotate. Like he was on the come up. He wasn't like a staple on that defense yet and terms of lake. Your your hard core like starting defense other other than hubbard. It's all brand new. I talked about that a couple weeks ago. And i think the reason we're not talking about the bengals defense much as we have no idea if they're going to be good or not because we've never seen them play together you would hope we would have had a better grasp on trains and dj. But they both got so. We really don't know what this defense is going to look like what ostensibly like. It'd be exciting and luke old. Up that cincinnati's overrated. They are properly rated. It was it was funny though. It was funny watching him back. That'll that but i wanted him to come on with mel because mel is the best at that like getting people on their heels and then just pushing them down the hill very gently and by the bottom of the hill. They're just tumbling most the best at that. Almost as good as he is dunkin cups. It's the month of mouth as tony is called. Do you think he could have got there and don't that. Oh yeah i mean. They tilted i. He didn't have to get up real high. If you look at the video is vertical was like you could slip a piece of paper under there. I'm just glad he didn't get up on anybody shoulders. That would have been dangerous but he changed the course of the season handily. Richard skinner when we come.

"It's anthony because with the orange. Bike insider bengals podcasts. It feels like it has been a year and a day. Since i have taken the area and or we've talked and bengals with you and i guess i should start off with a little bit of an apology on that front. Because we had a great show lined up for alaska last wednesday and i unfortunately had a little bit of a sudden in freak injury. Occur to me on that day So i apologize. We did not take the apologize. It's been awhile since we have not taken the air. I'm still recovering from that. Still trying to find out more about what happened with me personally but At any at any rate i You know just trying to hang in there a little bit in and work through it. But i apologize to the listeners. Because we had everything set up and then it was just kind of a freak deal and Went to the er and the whole thing so not not fun but getting through it and happy to be back talking with you. All about the bengals about mandatory minicamp and all kinds of different things going on with the cincinnati bengals with the afc north with the rest of the nfl. There's a lot of news to get to. it's been an entire week. i can't even can't even believe it. It's been an entire week before we get to the news. I want to let you know aside from this show. We've got a big show plan for tomorrow. We have lyndsey patterson prominent espn espn prominent cincinnati sports media member and You see her all over the place. Bengals beat podcast. Cincinnati inquirer all kinds of different places. So we are excited to have her on the program and talk with her about the sights and sounds from. Ota's mandatory mini camp and everything. So we've got that show and then we will be doing listener. Questions live where we answer your questions live on the air on friday so join us for that submit some questions beforehand and have yours answered on the air. Let's start were. Here's here's what we're gonna do. We're going to start with the kind of general news with the bengals. Some things that have been happening over the past couple of days. And then we'll go into the we'll go into the A slash mandatory mini camp updates and things that we are seeing there. And what you know. What all kinds of different things that are happening there. So let's get it going here. I'm trying to pull up one quick thing before we do in we'll get it set up Let's start if if we can with a little bit of some stuff. That kind of came out yesterday. This is we gotta share this for a variety of reasons. But we want to share this. Because he's one of our personal favorites on this program. He's been on our show. I guess i think it's been three times now. Mike daniels one of our very favorites. Great great guy. He's incredibly personable guy and A good football player. A good solid guy in the bengals locker room This is something through the player's tribune. Where players right kind of their own articles and put it out there. A lot of are long form type articles but this is on cincy. Jungle dot com. Mike daniels calls for juneteenth to be a federal holiday and you can see the entire kind of what his way his take on this growing up and why he thinks it should be a federal holiday. It is june nineteenth Can we won't go through through the full history lesson here. But i do recommend that you read. His article on the players tribune. There's a bit more on cincy. Jungle dot com. Obviously you can see june. nineteenth eighteen. Sixty five is is the date in history but It's it's a really really neat article from a guy who just is incredibly charismatic and has been a great addition to the bengals football team. So we would be remiss if we did not at least highlight this a little bit in in and tell you all about it. If you haven't seen it to go to the player's tribune. Or since he don't go dot com. It's linked the article it to the players tribune in checkout. What mike daniels wrote about juneteenth very very just an important article and a very good read by one of our favorites on the team. The bengals are also working with in case you have not heard. This is since jungle as well working with five coaches in the nfl's minority fellowship program. There is one named mike brown. But not that mike. Brown is our our chief. Jason markham notes in the article on cincy jungled dot com. Coaching interns kenny. Ray augusta's who is a co defensive coordinator and defensive line coach at mckendry university Larry black i believe this is larry black who actually made a stop. Yeah went went on to sign with the bengals college free agent. He was a guy I think it was. He was chronicled in the bengals. Second hard knocks where he had. He was one of those guys that everybody was kind of pulling for. Unfortunately had a pretty bad injury but has gotten into. Coaching is the defensive line coach at the university of toledo. So bengals are bringing him back in this coaching program. Mike brown wide receivers coach at the university of cincinnati Tessa grossman a grad assistant in sports performance coach at illinois state university A graduate of dartmouth college which i believe runs pretty prominent dartmouth college alums in the brown family. So they've got a good A good pulse on things there. Steve langa hopefully. I am pronouncing that correctly. Offensive quality control coach at the university of north texas And then It is bill. Welsh bill walsh fellowship program. Obviously bill walsh spent some time with the cincinnati bengals so the bengals bringing in five Coaching interns. They're pretty cool stuff. There's been a lot of talk. I think the last time. Unfortunately not last wednesday but the wednesday prior we talked about jesse bates in his ranking in this pf system and all this kind of stuff but basically there is some good news here. The bengals secondary overall is listed in the top. Half by of the nfl by pro football. Focus you know. Say what you want about that but that does speak a little bit of volumes. Based on the fact that the bengals lost william jackson top corner they did bring into dobie a ymca. They did they're getting back. Trae wayne's they brought in mike hilton. They added von bell last year. Of course they have jesse bay twos emerging as one of the best defensive players in all of football it the unit ranks fifteenth in the nfl by pro football focus. Ben lindsey of pro. Football focus writes quote a collection of secondary starters that includes trains to dobie a woozy. Mike hilton von bell won't necessarily scare opponents but there aren't many weak links in this group. Either the bengals have done a good job. Solidifying the unit through free agency over the past few offseasons. It kinda reminds me a little bit with the bengals. Have done in the secondary this year. If you go back to like the first few years of the andy dalton era member. They lost jonathan joseph. We'll have more on him and a little bit. They lost johnson joseph to free agency. They got like nate clements. They got terence. Newman they've got reggie nelson. That was in twenty ten and they kind of collected these guys via trades and free agency. And all this kind of stuff and all of a sudden day You know they ended up kind of piecing together through different means a pretty solid secondary. Not one that was absolutely outstanding but one that played pretty. Well under mike zimmer and obviously that's the hope here with this group performing well under lou room. Oh mike zimmer was familiar with quite a few of those guys in that secondary before he got to the bengals in now You know this is kind of a little bit of a similar deal. Flew in a remote guys. He's comfortable with familiar with all that stuff. So pro. football focus has the bengals secondary ranked fifteenth with their rankings..

"And we've talked about the coaching staff on this show. But their offense. I think can keep in games. I would take that young skill group not counting quarterbacks. I guess i'm going like just running back receiver group of young players over any in the nfl. I can't i. I mean dallas would be in the mix i mean there'd be other teams in the mix but i think i would take. Partly because i just love t higgins so much and i'm kind of assuming jomar chases is gonna be awesome but i did notice kind of doing this exercise. The bengals have completely changed their approach of player acquisition. I don't know if it's gonna work. But they were the number one team in terms of draft and development in the nfl year after year they dominated this stat which was just like how many snaps that you have from players. He drafted they would be like far and away ahead of the entire. Nfl now. is that working particularly. It was working. Okay they were. They were making the playoffs. Losing usually under marvin lewis. Now you look at their different. It's all free agents from other places that were mostly letdowns in at least at some points like dj reader ogunjobi hendrickson von bell from dallas. You got trae. Wayne's mike came in just a lotta guys from other places in your county on lou albano to just make it work that i'm usually doesn't work that they are. Everyone says like the middle class of free agency is kinda dead star except for the bengals. They're all about the middle. I'd have to think green bay would be up to too. But i can already see a trend. I can already tell what's gonna happen on this show. If cleveland starts out like one in three or four two and four. It's like here. we are cleveland. I'd one nice season and everyone's over it now. It's like they've been an. It's an offseason whether it being a little overrated now. At this point it's june people are tired of that and it's going to be exhaustion. Sit in you know. The saints can be good for like eighteen years in a row. The packers can be good for twenty-five. But cleveland had their one season. Now let's have the bengals come nipped them in the butt and stuff you know take them from fourth to third third or fourth place and the steelers suddenly are seeming. Like there's so much better than cleveland and we just trust the ravens and the whole you know what that's why have knicks shook. Who is about six foot. Three and built of bricks to start throwing punches. If you guys get to loose on this front you better keep it. Keep your traps closed. I'm a little annoying mark we've been we've been prepared for this. We've been steeled by the year. That was two thousand nineteen. I'll tell you. What the vitriol that i endured online while working for the browns as they went down in a massive ball of flames. It was unlike anything i've ever experienced working here. And and ranking players and upsetting fans. Because they're guys ninth when he should be second in their opinion So people love for the hype machine to go down and crash and burn but even if they did start one in three. It's a long season remember. They got blown out in week one last year. I'm sure you guys will be totally calm on sunday night. Podcast if they're just be. Oh yeah yeah. It's a long season very measured all your points about the sketchy on you for the browns and mark. Those are thursday. Show stuff by then. You'll have calmed down a little bit. I think i'll be too afraid on sunday nights like we know it's all about the is. You gotta see where the before you make any comments at all but there is. There's been a browns fan right now. Yes you have to deal with the expectations but on the plus side like likable draft. Time as an example. It's like everyone is just genuflecting at the altar of the cleveland browns. At everything they do is genius. So if you're going to get that type of positive buzz around the organization. You gotta deal with the expectation heat. That comes with it. It's part of the price. I had this very weird dream. I will not take more than minimum this last night. It's one of those ones where you wake up. And it's like five in the morning. You have no idea who you are. But i was at an airport with you. Dan and we were in this lake insane. Chase to try to find luggage. And i was trying to get kevin's defence. Ke's luggage for him. And i was meant to then take it to the browns complex. But i couldn't find it. And i kept getting lost and it was snowing out and then you were like hey man. I'm good like we were going to a hotel and you're like i found my baggage so are you. Can you figure this out. I guess so. And i'm walking around with this like sort of rather strange colorful bag that belongs to kevin stefanski and then the dream ended. I didn't fulfil the jets on any level. What does that dream. So that you're kevin stefanski is like jockey his bag. I was like the guy that would be like. Hey can you do us a favor. Can you just you know. He's gotta go. Go bring his luggage to the complex. And don't don't forget. Anything and i was like baggage everywhere. People were wearing masks explained. Knicks final day with the cleveland browns. Some sensitive materials coming in from nicaragua. Can you call up to pick it up. that is. that's the dream book would say that. That's mark dealing with distress in weight of carrying the browns bag on the national perspective in dealing with the fire. From you guys and the pressure and it's getting to him and it's getting into his subconscious and the season can't get here all these lower i could. That's well well into that anymore. I have one last one before we If anybody else jumps in go ahead jump in. But you know greg. I don't know listen. We do a lot of stuff together on On television and on this podcast. And so i've heard this a lot and have read this now in your piece of record on the two thousand and twenty one season upcoming project starters. I need receipts on this russell. Wilson league mvp promotion this this theory or this. You advocating for months on sunday night. Football game where it was like. It was a pre game interview and knows all about all the media outlets sane how he's never received an mvp vote. That was all part of it. Yeah but your theory here and correct me. If i'm wrong. That russell wilson spearheaded this media narrative that right. That's what you're saying. You're calling it a promotion that he was running behind the scenes. I mean no. I yeah pretty much that he was. He was contributing to he talked publicly about like what an mvp would mean to him and that he wants to be the greatest in the game and that is what he wants he was asked about it. I'm sure unless you point out her. You bring up enough. That i need proof at this point that he was actually doing this. I don't want to vote more. Importantly i want to win the award. Wilson said september twenty fifth. I mean what are you. What are you asking me here. He is doing it. He's got the pr my stained by. I do like you also ended your seahawks right up with this. Little blurb also popular seahawks fans any shout out to their status as a special breed of humanity more knowledgeable and inexplicable than any other collection of people on earth. What do you do over there rosendo. Yeah what's that about just messing around you. also here. yeah well that. And they didn't think it's all connected. Yeah they didn't like that and they just like the seahawks fans they do have a great twitter presence. They're smart they're weird But they don't like to hear that any other fan base could also have like a smart weird fantasy. Stay with they wanna feel special and once you say like okay. I'm not really feeling them as a super bowl team this year. Then then they come at market down june third. Two thousand twenty one. Greg rosenthal officially became fatigued with seahawks and seahawks twitter. Keep the twelve's weird. The t shirts that read Anybody else before we close out the segment. Which by the way has a title and that title is projected starters..

"Going back in time things that happened on this date in sports history a light docket. In fact, I'm going to start with the birthday. This date. 1963 Happy birthday, Todd Benzinger from Dayton, Kentucky, A happy 58 to the guy who got the final hour of the 1990 World Series played nine major league seasons. He was drafted by the Red Sox out of New Richmond High School in 1981. This day, 1973 the Philadelphia 70 Sixers lose their 20. Their 20th straight game. 1982. The Cardinals complete one of the best trades ever acquiring future Hall of Fame shortstop Ozzie Smith from the San Diego Padres for shortstop Garry Templeton. This date 1990. Greatest upset in sports history question. Mark James Buster Douglas knocks out Mike Tyson to win the world heavyweight boxing championship. And this day 2016 the NFL upholds the three game suspension of Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict for his unnecessary roughness penalty for hitting a defenseless Antonio Brown. And their playoff matchup at Paul Brown Stadium. All of that happening on this date in sports history. This date, Mike Tyson was a 40 See, Buster Douglas was a 42 to 1 underdog. Fighting in Tokyo, the Tokyo Dome greatest upset in sports history. No, I think I put it in my top four or five. I've told this story before, but quickly. It's one of those. You never forget where you were moments. I was. I was in a suit and tie ready to walk up onto the set to do the 11 20 sports in South Bend on WSB T on this date 31 years ago, they had just wrapped up the weather. Also vestry through it to commercial they set up next Lance has your sports and as I'm walking up onto the set, I sit down and I put in my eye F b the ear piece in my producer. My good friend Dean Turkle says, Listen to me, listen closely. He was I okay, buddy? I got a story for you. I'm like, Oh, here we go. He says Mike Tyson just got beat. I'm like, what are you talking about? He says Buster Douglas just beat Mike Tyson. He knocked him out in the 10th round. You've got a new lead. So I came out of the break and that was our lead story that night, breaking at the moment 10th round Buster Douglas knocks him down in the iconic scene of Taison, fumbling, grasping mouthpiece out trying to put one hand on the rope to pull himself up, couldn't get up in his ruled out and loses the invincible 37 a no Mike Tyson with 37 knockouts until this state 31 years. Go. I would put I put the Olympics Miracle on ice number one. As the greatest upset in sports. I would put 16 seed Maryland Baltimore County's upset of number one seed Virginia and the NC double a tournament A couple of years ago. 16 seeds had been Oh, For and 1 35 in tournament history. But that too I would put Buster Douglas over Mike Tyson three and I would put no. You know what I'd put Leicester City. Off the Premier Li get number three. They defy 5001 odds to win the Premier League five years ago, And then I put Buster Douglas over Mike Tyson. Those would be my top four. I might put AP State beating Michigan in week one of the college football season about who, how many years ago that would have been around 2007 or so And I would, of course, put the Reds 1990 world Syria's sweep of the Oakland A's talk to put the red door and I got some on Twitter. Who said Villanova upsetting Georgetown. Villanova was, Yeah, they were an eight seed, but they still I mean, they made their way through the tournament that year in 84 to get to the title game. They didn't come out of nowhere just to jump into the championship game. I'll give you a while giving an old school one. This would have been somewhat mid eighties or so. Virginia was number one in the country with Ralph Sampson and they were playing in Hawaii. I think it Christmas or it may be Christmas Eve New Year's Eve, and they played in Hawaii against division to Shaman. Odd and Shaman Odd beat the number one team in the country, and Ralph Sampson, the Virginia Cavaliers. I put that they might make my top 10. There we go. All right back to the phones. We gotta round out this list. We're doing a ring of honor. It looks like according to leaked or accidentally exposed a tweet yesterday that the Bengals a released contemplating a ring of honor, And I said, Well, heck, and let's work on what the initial class of four would look like. Four because forced tough three z z four. You can only do for that stuff because there's some pretty good ones at number 56 and seven on a potential list. How about here in the Sea and Indiana? Andy? What do you got for me? A lamp. A little plate of my signal holds up. Yeah. A communion First girl, Anderson, Ken Riley. From right from them Crumb around the honorable honorable mention. Now, whoever meant yes. Horrible mentioned has to be von Bell for a sit on juju Smith Schuster a couple months ago. Feelers have that that that clearly elevates him in the eyes of a lot of fans in terms of his place in this history that a hit, we will never forget. Yes. What's that? A dozen times? I love it. Hey, thanks for calling. Have a have a great night. I'm looking we we have are clear three. And as as I thought, the splits coming at four. We've got Moon Joo's. We've got Anderson. We've got Paul Brown and then we've got a decent split and a break up. For our fourth spot. Let's go here, Kenny. Welcome to sports talk. And how you doing last? Good. How are you? I'm good. I'll take the first for you. Do you see it? About Isaac Curtis. Oh, yes. I can't believe nobody's mentioned. You're the actress one dimension. Isaac Curtis and they're back at Bob Trumpy Trump. All right, And then there Oh, Hand. Ross Dan Ross getting some love. Okay, that's it. Excellent. You're the man. Thank you. All right, You have a great night and and just off of that call, Let's go. Old school caller mentioned Phil Samp. Last caller mentioned Dan Ross. How about a combo and radio form will go back to throw looks fires into the end zone. Touchdown. The damn Ross Dam Ross, right down the middle again when over the way from William's son. The teammates of his mob in down.
