Things I'd Wish I'd Known When My Kids Started College

"Things. I wish i known when my kids started college like how their meal plans. Don't include ten dollar la taes three years ago when my kids started college. I could've used some guidance. Decent advice wisdom. I went on college tours asking. What are your dorms. Emergency exit plans. I should've asked how many essential oil marketers within a fifteen mile radius. Hold a communications degree from your university. What did i know. I was worried. Said to be losing my babies and wondering how in the name of god they survive without homemade smoothies would my make good choices. Texts be as effective without the appropriate facial expressions. I should have focused on the upside vodka. Bottles would soon return to the oven where they belong. I could keep my journal out in the open rather than hidden in the closet near the vibrators. Real changes happen for empty nesters and our kids during college years. Not all of them bad. Here's what i wish. I knew it will take one year to go from crying when they leave to crying when they come home six months. If you enjoy the kind of privacy you haven't had since clinton was in office. Prepare a speech for when they call to say we've been seeing each other exclusively for eight weeks. Should i still use a condom. That kid who is said to leave home will soon be wondering why you do things like visit and stay overnight. Go ahead and share opinions about what they wear an instagram pictures. I dare you. Are we supposed to quickly pivot from casting out trans fats and other sources of evil to serene acceptance that their diet now includes edibles. Yes yes we are so steel an edible. When you visit. You're paying for it. Your boys will bring home girls who start sentences with as a capricorn. But stay supportive or though blame you for the inevitable. Break-up relax with the anti-capitalist you don't need to be investment bankers bullshit. You'll have to pay their rent when they eventually decide work as oppressive. It will take years before they stop asking questions about. Laundry and ironing

"And it's like a forty minute train ride and we natural i we get dinner at like a mexican restaurant some light and then we go there and we're starting to get drinks and drinks and drinks and i decided that it's going to be a vodka night and that was a big mistake. That was a big mistake because unbeknownst to me. Even though i'm twenty seven and i should understand myself by now i do not understand that one. Drink vodka you girl gets tired. I guess certain alcohol. I knew this but i just didn't really take a different types of alcohol affects you differently and everyone is different but for me. Vodka is a super downer so i was slumped by the sixth. Any mind. you we got there late. Hell we got there like at the third or fourth inning and then by the end of the sixth inning. I was done so like i was knocked out. I wanted to be done. I would just drag me home honey. So we're still getting drinks. I'm still getting drowsier and drowsier in drowsier and like by the eighth inning. I'm like sleeping in my seat. And then i'm like please drive. Can we just go home. like i'm done. I always wanted to go home. Like i was not a good.

"Sorry. Natural light vodka. Natty vodka is about to hit the market. It's going to come in three different flavors. Lemonade. Strawberry and black cherry lemonade. So big Nagy natty vodka. If somebody comes in here with the bottom of natty vodka and says, Let's get down to business here. You're taking a drink? I don't know. Um I mean, look, Maddie Light is a budget beer. I mean, you could buy like a 30 pack of it for $13.30 30 like, you know, and if they're getting into the vodka business I mean, there's I mean, you could buy all the handle of skull vodka for 10 bucks. I might be overestimating the price. There's some of that. I mean, you spend all night drinking that cheap vodka. You feel horrible in the I mean, just awful. Think about the way you feel after you drank a lot of beers from natty like this. Now take that hangover and imagine their vodka. So I think what somebody really needs to do to penetrate the market is come out with their own line of vodka beer. Do you like beer, but can't get drunk from beer. Then try new vodka beer, The can says beer, But inside is 12 ounces of carbonated vodka. And the best part is your wife will never know. Honey, I'm so proud of you Cutting down to one beer and night Take off your underwear. I think there's a place in the market for that. I mean, you you spend your night drinking dark eyes vodka. And most of the most the reason you're hungover next morning because it's not only cheap, cheap, distill Varga, but it's what you mix it with as well. So maybe the natty vodka With the You know the strawberry lemonade. If you mix it with some soda, Maybe it wouldn't be that bad. I'll give it a shot. I mean, I'll try anything pretty much I got..

Tactical Tuesday: Hands From Greatness Village

"Let's start out by breaking down this hand. Thomas played in a live poker streets. So this had it's at five ten twenty live somewhere in. La starts with a fish in the cutoff opening to sixty dollars. Another fish on the button calling and a very strong pro calling the big blind and thomas completing from the straddle with jat nine diamonds So there's two hundred forty dollars going to flop. The flop has ten seven deuce rainbow The flats checked around. I don't know if you wanna have a brief discussion agenda on on on docking swap and whether You know thomas his hand or or this situation you think warrants dunk so yeah. I don't know that. It warrants donkey. But i would say that the details that i would like to have available or add in would be if there's any sort of indication from either of the fish that they've kind of just mentally given up the hand i think if there's some sort of live read that you can cobble together to influence your decision here than i would prefer if say one of those players is it has already mentally checked out. I think that's pretty reasonable spot to dunk there. And then there's gonna be lots of like over cards. I think the fish and position or going to play their value pretty straight forwardly so we can apply lots of pressure on various run outs. Plus we have position on the pro. So yeah. I think that like i wouldn't mind a dunk. If we know that one of the players has mentally checked out. But barring that if we don't have any information then i'm just going to check long and kind of see what happens. Yeah i mean. I don't i don't play very many multi to begin with It's pretty rare where i even have do that. Just that until like another thing. That i would like to kind of know about or see before deciding whether or not i wanted dunk. Slop is whether there's a diamond on the flop vow would go a long ways towards shifting towards like putting me in the category But we don't know. I'm just gonna assume that there isn't a diamond on the flop because i mean coach. Thomas is the type of person to to definitely to put that in there if there was a diamond but it's ten seventies rainbow vodkas. Checked around turn is an off suit nine and the pro and the big widened butts. One seventy five and to forty again thomas. is jack nine of diamonds. So he turns. I compare now has got shot or excuse me got shot. So now has a pair and got shot on the turn I just solved the mystery by the way. So if the turn is an offshoot nine then it must mean that. We have a diamond on the

"Let's go to the tweets. Vince rates in with a Appointed question here he asks. Why do you hate the cub. So much yes buster. Why do you hate the cubs. You hate the mets too. I feel like those teams we We hear from fan so much that Sense on that question. Do you think admits minute like literally or a little tongue in cheek I think a little tongue in cheek. I think vince is a listener. So he's not. One of those twitter ran. Does that just comes at you. I feel like we hate. No one on this podcast. I do but you definitely don't. I don't know where he would get those vibes now. Now that the team that annoys me the most to the orioles on its absent bias covered the orders for the baltimore sun and i hate the idea tanking year after year of the united states. That lincoln's right. But yeah. I don't i don't hate i don't care we don't care wins and loses the games. It's good all right. Let's go donna. Irvine at donner don rights in now that the nationals are shadow of their former selves. What are the odds that the oil will win. More games this season in that buster will only a dinner. The nats sit at forty nine and fifty eight right now in the oriel said at thirty eight and sixty eight so eleven games apart not unrealistic but still unlikely now completely unrealistic. There's no chance that the orioles will overtake the nationals. No chance muster. They're ten and seven since the all-star break come on man. Here's a pulse. Not going to happen. The orioles gonna be playing all these teams that are trying to win okay and they will lose. Would you throw out. I alexander wells on the mound against the yankees. That's gonna happen to you now you got. I said i'm trying to not be mean you're throwing out a name. I did well anyway. Let's let's okay Western prince at western prince two rights with tigers seemingly pushing toward the next. Step of the rebuild who was a realistic free agent. Target this off season. Could they be an option for a top shortstop. Yeah and they're on our priscilla's came out yesterday and said they would be more aggressive from free agency. This off season this year has been a your progress for sure. It's hard to say at this point in a among the top shortstops. Who might be a guy that they would grab. No just off the top. My head's i. I kind of wonder about carlos correa to some degree is. Aj hinch knows them. And you know carlos is going to be out there and if you were the tigers he wanted to plant the flag that yes. You're moving forward that would be one way to do it. And i don't think carlos is to get like three hundred million dollar deal. I think he's gonna get a really good contract but not three hundred million dollars i suspect. Aj is gonna be in the back. Room saying yeah. You're the reasons why. Carlos for what makes sense for us. I like it. It's go to andrew campbell at real cam true injury rates and hey buster between these two division leaders. Which team do you think could come. October regret the ability to acquire a starting pitcher at the deadline. The raise or the mets the mets. From what i understand. The mets were working aggressively on some bigger deals and then when they got news on degrom which was in the last twenty five dollars for the deadline. Econo- pulled back. Like i think they made a decision based on the potential pluses and minuses. Like our team without rahm is not as dangerous. Windy graham and so. We're not going to be as ambitious in deal making. They did go and get hobby by as but they were not as aggressive as what they were talking about and last tweets for today john. Gillespie at johnny geo five. John writes in. Could crawford or posey's sneak in win the mvp and the nfl. Their offense has been great but their defense and what they mean to. The team has been priceless. Yeah look i think the nationally. mvp is completely wide. Open one guy that i think might have an is trey turner. Paul katie's guy. I knew we talked about. Because statistically he's authored tremendous star and now he's going to get this platform on which to play for the dodgers. If the dodgers rundown the giants and the nationally west i would not be surprised. Trae turner do the mvp. All right that doesn't for bleacher tweets hashtag bleacher tweets on.

"Tweets already. Buster bleacher tweets four wednesday and want to bring up team. Usa baseball before we get into the tweets here team usa. They defeated the dominican republic. Three one last night. They'll face the loser of japan. South korea for a shot at the gold medal. That game's going on right now. They're currently tied to rerecord this about eight thirty. Am eastern on a wednesday morning. Gotta say could not legitimately find the baseball game last night. I feel like. I'm very savvy when it comes to like cruising through channels and in finding things but nbc has been a little bit of a disaster in terms of like showing you when and how you could watch anything. It took me about thirty minutes to find it. It was eventually had really had to find that. I had to pull it up on the website. Someone tweeted at me and said like where it was but it wasn't on. Cnbc wasn't on nbc. Wasn't on usa wasn't on the frigging olympics channel wasn't on nbc sports network. Like it wasn't anywhere. I guess it was just on the website and then finally came on Cnbc at about midnight. I think that point was we're in the fifth inning team. Usa dodgers astros anyway. Yeah yeah. I mean there was other stuff on but it was. It was a bit of a pain. Because i consider myself a pro navigating those waters so We did get the window. Tristen casas again to run bomb in the first inning. Tyler austin went yard in his home ballpark. He plays for the yokohama. Bay stars in the mp so that was pretty cool scott casimir. He threw five scoreless innings. Dominicans only run came in the bottom of the ninth two out so the americans continue on gold still in play. As i said they're gonna play the loser of japan south korea and then if they win that they'll get a shot in the gold medal game against the winner of that match if they lose. They'll play the dominican republic again for the bronze-medal so Still some more baseball head for team. Usa very exciting Any any thoughts or feelings about this team right now buster. I know it's it's way passer bedtime when these games are on. Yeah you know. Happy scott casimir coming back making the effort of pitch this year. Getting the cup of coffee with the san francisco giants and now depends on the olympics. And when he's sitting on his twenty years maybe the gold medal round his chest..

"Manager. Brian cashman was on the michael. Kay show ninety point seventy spn. You're talking about analytics. He was asked about whether or not the be all end. All analytics are used. Here is not the indomobile. I'm bill is not the governor to tribes every decision that people think and it doesn't matter if you get on the phone denied that he does his lineups from the front office because he doesn't he does lots from his chair and you can get joe girardi the prior manager. Joe torre department at you before that. There's not one of those guys could say. They were directed to play a guy in order to play a lineup. It's never happened. And i've been the same general manager every step of the way but again none of that's going to matter. The only matters if we win and if we win their buddies happy and if we lose in all things are under review and some of it's gonna be guilty as charged accurate but there's a lot of people don't know and they just kinda online with whatever. The comfortable narrative happens to be at that moment in time you talked about roster construction. I think we have a good team. That just hasn't played up to their abilities at time. So i think there's a as i said collection of county here that Individually you know some have played better than others and come lived up to their consistent norm or others struggled to find their way for some reason and only have to necessarily roster construction thing. I think it's part of the baseball world. Thad listened to you. Can't count on things even though you want to. You know so you place your bet on on good people that work their tail off and have a great deal talent but despite all that doesn't mean you'll get that payoff in the end. But as i said we got two more months to sea change that narrative to push that disappointment behind us of you know subpar play. I various positions and get back on track. Don't get the wrong way. I feel like this is more of a negative interview. Which i understand you can ask questions on behalf of our fan base. Which is is a great conduit so i salute. You know that but at the same time despite their more recent code outbreak we are on the verge of pushing ourselves back into a postseason team and we have come a long way from some really bad play. Cashman was asked an interesting question. Would he have made the trade for giancarlo stanton if he knew. Stan would be a d. h. Only well when i tried to form you know i Traded for him with the thought process of him in a judge sharing a lot of time between right field to protect them. Both it just hasn't worked out that way you know over the course of time and it's early. Injuries played a part on stand. So we acquired someone who's riding is prolific hitter and when he's healthy and especially when he's locked in like we've seen egos on some pre terrifying runs for the opposing pitchers. They they won't be able to navigate but at times clearly. We've had some injuries in clearly. We've had some stretches you know like these great home run hitters have where they struggled to so but in terms of going back. Hey if you're specifically answering whatever. I regret trading firm or not. I'm not going to answer questions like that yankee. He's obviously one of many really talented players. That were hoping to get the most out of as we compete for a championship effort every year. And when he's locked in we saw he was in the postseason last year he can carry. The team passed any pitcher that happens. To be on the mound. And so obviously when you have locked in on that best version of themselves. You know you wouldn't want anybody different than the batter's box when he's locked in so we're just trying to tap into that as much again. Bleacher.

"Slugging. He's been disappointing. Jeff mcneil you know he's coming up you know perennial three hundred hitter to seventy one. Peter lonzo. yeah he's twenty four home runs but three thirty two on base five. Oh one slugging. He's been their best hitter. I don't wanna pick on him but you know certainly not. At the level. It was two years ago. Obviously francisco indoor having the worst year career you know and now injured so it's taught through bottom. Everyone of their hitters is worse than they were last year. And i tell you what i mean if the phillies actually make the postseason. And they overcome the mets and win the division of the braves do i. I mean those officers are going to get a ton of credit. Yeah or what they did. I you know the phillies. I think going down to the wire. There was a lot of feeling of wow. They're not good enough. And why would they spend resources with dave dombrowski. In those last twenty four hours makes the deal for kyle. Gibson added some help to the bullpen in the braves. Even after ronald kuni junior goes down tip to the cap to alex. Dopoulos that the feeling of you know what we're gonna try. We're going to run out the ground ball. We probably don't have very good chance. But we're gonna add some outfield. We're going to augment that armour team in hope that are pitching gets better and hope that you know in the travis our nose in noah come back that We're gonna get better. Yeah i would argue the braves even without a kunia might be the most talented team in that division. They gotta get that starting pitching completely healthy. We'll see if they get there or not but they managed to hang around in a week division. and sometimes. that's all you need from a team right. you know. Two and a half behind the mets won behind the phillies for second place but look at that render differential on the season braves plus fifty four mets minus eleven phillies minus seventeen. Even with all their injuries. You can argue. They are the best most talented team in that division. Yeah it's funny. You locked in on that. That's exactly what i was going to bring. Up was the fact that the if you believe in run differential as the true and best barometer. I know a lot of folks in front ops believed that. Then they're really dangerous and here's another thing to remember early in the year. When freddy freeman was hidden under two hundred. And like what a concern. There was easy to ninety four. I mentioned this to my son. Who's the crazy braves fan as you know what with how. Open the national league. Mvp conversation is Because jacob ground got hurt now fernando totti's junior sir you know they were running Number one for awhile each them. We don't know if we're gonna see one of those guys in the field. I said friday's frank's got a chance to go back to back here. That's a really good point and sneak into the postseason given his resurgence and how incredible he's been you know. His average is mentioned of two to ninety four thousand ninety. Six on base percentage hitting for power another homerun last night up. John lester. he's gonna get some support yet. I remember looking at his numbers early in the year when he got to that slow star. And you know we're not watching the braves player with the numbers and it was all bad luck. He was hitting the ball hard. Just apparently hitting the ball right at people. I mean in the middle of man trying to do. Some numbers here may seventeenth. he was hitting two eighteen. So you could argue that since the middle of may. He's been as good as anybody in baseball. Maybe shohei ohtani vlad guerrero junior ben as good but yeah. That's another reason why to believe in the braves. A couple guys get out to slow starts. Freeman dance swab on. Those guys are better now. How much trouble do you think the red sox iran. Because i just having seen them in over the weekend against the the raise you know. This is a team that was in first place. You know the great surprise team in the american league I do wonder about sort of what players are thinking about in their clubhouse about what the team didn't do before the trade deadline and this is not fully manifested. We still haven't seen couch in the lineup as he comes back from that hamstring injury but dating do as as a lot of the other contenders did. And i think that you know based on clubhouse. I've i've been around. I think that you know there might be some thought in the among the players down there like how can we all in look shorter. We'll even see how he fits in. you know. I heard alex. Cora yesterday not necessarily locking schmerber into first base kept mentioning. He can play left field. You know so. We'll see how that plays out. I really thought buster. They needed to add a starting pitcher. I know chris sale looks like he will have one more start. Triple a rehab. Starting and he'll be back. He's been pitching well. That should be a great addition. But some of these guys are really scuffling. Garrett richards and adore rodriguez in particular really been struggling of late. Richard you can really go back to the the grip Crackdown on hits his struggles Rodriguez just hasn't been the same all year so i thought they needed a starting pitcher. Yeah it's a race. Now i mean tampa bay leaves the division red sox won back like you said yankees five back the red sox and there's some room to play with but they're in a tough situation. I'm with you. I remember in two thousand one when i was covering the yankees for the new york times and that was a team that won four world series in five years and during two thousand. They made like seven deals to augment the roster. Whether david justice did the front end the back end You know guys. Like luis. Polonia and jose can saco will in two thousand one. Joe torry openly lobbied to media members for moves to augment the roster and the front office and ownership. They were not happy about that. 'cause they're feeling was wait a second. You got there jeeter. And you've got you know morano rivera. Give all these stars on this team. And we've got the biggest payroll in baseball in you. want more. how about just focusing on what you can do. But i also think was an understanding that the players it's sorta ronan condition too. Yeah we'll go out and get the best players available that's what we do and whether you like it or not. I think that's human nature in to bring it back to the red sox. I gotta believe that their people in in the in that clubhouse who is the trade deadline's going on and the yankees you're adding rizzo and they're adding Joey gallo and you're seeing the blue jays who are way behind at that point going out and making the deal for jose burrito and others Contenders all across the board at doing in making big moves that there had been at least some disappointment like really. We didn't do more. And i think the reality is to in a market like boston. If they don't make the playoffs front office is going to get blamed whether that's fair or not. Yeah look.

"I do live here in portland oregon. And i've lived here for gosh well over thirty years now and i am a mom to four boys. I call them. Boys really young men now but you know there's four of them and I m happily married and have been just really working on my life and working on my own relationship with alcohol for the past two plus well two plus years that i've figured it out many many years of prior to that we'll talk about that more and in my daytime job. I work at a senior living community. Which i love and i get to help. Seniors create a happier longer life. Suddenly you described yourself as the adult child of an alcoholic. And i wondered if he talked to us about your childhood and how that shaped your attitude towards alcohol. Yeah i have a pretty long story with alcohol in my family and it. I was thirteen when my mother. I admitted to me that she was an alcoholic. And i've talked about this story on my own podcast about how i was. You know it was a saturday morning. And i was very going to catch her. You know i was going to really naylor to the wall because she was at the ironing board and she had a glass of vodka on the rocks designed to look like water. You know that. I wasn't supposed to recognize it and so i very triumphantly asked her was going to catch her and said you know. Are you an alcoholic. And i remember her answering me and she did say yes she thought she was or yes she was. But i really didn't hear i just. I really thought that by her. Admitting it to me that it would fix it. You know that it would go away as as as a thirteen year old. That was my mindset. If i caught her and she knew that i knew then she would stop

Confessions of a New Convert

"Life was exhausting before i allow myself to enjoy the pleasures. The world had to offer but it was exhausting lonely empty after flirting with almost everyone i laid my eyes on at the club and drinking myself to an unbelievable stupor. I'd wake up on the bed on yet. Another stranger who'd introduce himself awkwardly with a subtle suggestion. That i leave since he had to get ready for work or worse still be woken to be told to leave since he didn't want anyone sleeping over. What was the fun in that. I was lazy. I'd admit that i didn't see why i should subject myself to a torturous to five routine when funding my goodies and being serviceable earning more than the decent worker. But it was enough. Even when i would resolve the clean up my act after the last one i found myself back in another pot. Man's bed why the money just seem to fly away to survive. I had to go back like a dog going back to its vomit. I was tired the life. I knew it wasn't working. I needed a magical way to straighten myself up and get me right on track. And i'd organize a pity party for myself with bottle of vodka with every belch. I promise myself. I'd find a way. It was during one of my pity parties. When i heard a knock on my door. I knew it had to be one of those. Jesus crusaders so i thought to ignore it but the persistence of the knock caught me off the couch and to the door with a reply ready to roll off my tongue the second by the door with a cute face and dashing smile made me lose my thoughts for a moment so i wasn't able to give him my usual. I'm busy excuse in time. May i come in my intoxicated. Mind was trying to figure out why clean looking guy was at my door. My head nodded without my permission. "Good things in life really well and also the stuff we're going to discuss today. I'm one of your house. Get god juliana and with me today at the table is gonna boy kendall. It's always good to see your beautiful face and these two. Oh who is it going beautiful your because i think he was looking at me. Wow could've boy. Mike hi you know so when you show up at like the marketing discussion and they asked for volunteers to test something. This is that moment where i've made yet a questionable decision to raise my hand and go sir. I'm in. it's one of those days. And how many years later. Yeah goodbye. dave how are you alright. Alright and that is going to up at the sodas. I think this will sum up our episode. It'll get worse before it gets better. Yes that's very true confident. That may be the name of this episode. It's going to get worse before it gets better. Don't give everything away well. Today we begin another summer of questionable decision. Wow goodness why are we go with a second. Look at hard seltzer. It's clear it's fruity and it's fizzy. Well i mean. I guess that says it all right. Oh and it has a little bit of alcohol in it anything else. We need to cover. Its low calorie well. That's about it. clear. Fizzy fruity locale. Great episode. everyone. I'd like to think over. Who today dave hold on okay. The answer isn't over. We still have to haste and discuss about a dozen heart seltzer. Yes that's what i was trying to avoid. Well we're all here. Dave but these are the sacrifices that we make for our audience for anyone who wants to go back and listen to the first episode on hauled hard seltzer. You can check out episode to seventy nine titled too. I look skinnier and the answer to that question. Mike is no mine so today. We're going to be blind tasting. Several heart seltzer. I mean our plates are full here. A few of them were some of our favorites from that previous seltzer episode. While the rest are mix of macaroni and craft brands as always have a list. Yes the list list of pain. You're on the list. But he i'm always on the list and i know what we're tasting while. My co hosts will be giving their unbiased opinions based solely on flavor aroma and overall injury ability. Therapy garbage all right. Go by mike. Please onerous with your such ratings. Yup so we're going to be discussing and reading these hard sensors with these ratings plus our signature belting sounds so the like channel you know summer with surfers wallin talking about you know are tasty sods ratings for today so number one is due like that sucks give me anything but a bud light seltzer or bud light so like we talked about the deuce but number two is was that a can hard seltzer in your pocket or you're just like glad to see me so my mom always says that i'm favorite third child but what a relief all the seltzer or like getting me ready for the bikini season who So you know. I had like a brother. But he was really the favorite and he was number four and bodice. You're really not ingest. This much natural fruit flavoring votes natural. You know like those are real natural hunting to convey that so. I believe that you should always hold up your hand. Go five man. Because that's always best thing deal in say. Listen hang time and never mild gave me the last time that sound is played. Should we just should. We play several times as an honorary molin. Get your you know what here too. So everyone remembers what five the artificially flavored beverage in front of. Me is just not getting it. Okay well thank you. That was exceptional. I promise negative three. Yes that do we have to. We like super and whatever. It's gotta be good. No psych watermelon raspberries. You know not no. Yes watermelon strawberry. Here's what we're gonna is. We're going to you know we'll throw up our gang signs to see what we what we read it but anybody who can guess the actual fruit flavors in it. Wow yeah you get bonus points. Well i think it's raspberry that's muslim table. I'm going to say there's lime in line. Well that's interesting raspberry watermelon. I'm gonna go with watermelon. Salt maybe a little diarrhea. Hey now it tastes better than a smells. I'll give it that. Yeah the the smell on. It is a little offensive candy. Yeah nothing when you stick your nose all the way in the bag of hard candy and you're like l. The dust yeah. You're like okay that that's not happening. I did drink all mine. But wow that's just what. I did get a free t shirt. Dave did you chug. It did not trouble The caller is very is almost fluorescent. I mean you gotta give it that. It's sets it apart from the crowd. But i'm getting like a lot of seltzer on this. You know like it's a bitting finish on the back end of this did not pleasant at all so there. The doesn't seem to be sent to balance between the sugars. And this and from what i understand. There's a couple of different ways that people are doing seltzer. Some of them take like Cane-sugar whatever and then for meant that. And then distill it make alcohol and then you had the fruit flavor i think some people are taking seltzer in booze and jackson fruit in it. I wonder if this one is the seltzer in adding stuff to interest. This wasn't made with love. Say made with haight. So we're gonna go with the suds reading of.

"Harry is the chairman of the jehovah's tribe in washington state. But don't let that high title fool you into thinking that he's just some kind of suit. I'm not the suit and tie kind of Chairman if i have a pool shirt on unjust it's gotta talking to us ages. Wears a red t-shirt. He says it reminds him of his grandchildren. One of my favorite shirts. That says papa bear on it with the old guy with a couple of his grandkids. Harry's always been this kind of family fist guy. He still lives close to where he grew up in oakville which is the small town that borders and overlaps with a halo reservation. And is harry grew up. They weren't that many jobs in the area. And since the mid ninety s the tribes brave new has been pretty dependent on one source. The lucky eagle casino. So a few years ago. Harry's tribe was looking to find a broad range of ways to make money for the tribe one of the items on the whiteboard that came up was why not a distillery. I mean it. it's it's been coming. It's booming and seattle. It was on just one of those boats that we didn't miss the tribal latest imagined a huge restaurant in bah with a distillery out. The back would serve meals like fish and chips. Harry's favourite own back with a cocktail made from their own vodka and whisky so they partner with an expert. Distiller the head blueprints grown up. The site was chosen ready for construction and then one day in the trial. Hey quotas the jehovah's attorney came rushing over and he said we've got a problem in old law from eighteen thirty four that says distilleries in indian country not allowed and they will be destroyed if you build one so that kinda put a stop to everything.

"It's one thousand nine hundred seventy seven. Jimmy carter has announced his plan to help farmers and congress's like wait. No we also love the farmers and so they pass a law saying that they want the price of milk to go up automatically every six months. It's one thing for politicians to say we want the price of milk to go up but the government then actually has to figure out a way to step into this market and make it happen. So it's it's fundamental economics again dairy economist. any vodka. Vich you got two levers you can pull out and you can do something to make demand greater or you can do something to make supply less either one should get you a higher price lever one lower the supply. You could do what they do in canada and say hey no more milk. You can only produce so much milk but this is america. We don't do milk quotas. No lover one. Okay lever to more demand. You could try to convince the public that they want to drink. More milk in it looked delicious glass. Okay easier solution. Maybe the government could just start buying a ton of milk themselves. This was generally the approach that we would use to support other kinds of farm industries. The government would buy up say massive amounts of corn or wheat. And then just throw it into a silo until we needed it for some reason but that does not work for milk because milk starts going bad. The minute it comes out of the cow fell so mostly water so you got a holiday around in those. Like gas tankers. The federal government wouldn't have the foggiest idea what to do with tanker loads of milk. What would the government do if you drove this into downtown washington and said here you go so the clever folks that. Usda said what if we went down to supply chain one step ah-ha and looked at dairy products that are storable so the basic question was what kinds of milk products can the government by and store. "So Jim, I think you hit the nail on the head with Ron Swanson's quote. They're very true. Now, I'm going to go back in and say Jim is not a rich white woman. So, I believe he identifies more of the Ron Swanson, which means he's a whiskey guy and I feel that I like me. I would definitely take a whiskey on the rocks for sure and I loved an old fashioned. But if I was trying to feel fancy, I would Channel my inner or w w and you know get Martini so Jim, thank you so much for your comments. We got Dave from Rhode Island was update. He says vodka arguably has the power. Sorry Dave's, and apparently has the power to make me drop things on the floor wage, which I do need to pick up not for this segment, but the next actually I'm kind of a giant he Hall here. Sorry folks provides Paul podcast improve. Oh, okay. Sorry. I need to know my time stamps that way like don't go older with this song. Egg meant trying to keep the show even tighter than has been the past and we've been in that hour mark. I'm going to try and keep this at a cool 45 minutes, but do that I can save some money on a store in these episodes for y'all. So sorry about that. But anyways day from Rhode Island, he says vodka arguably has the most variations end off Labor's out of all alcohols can mix it with so many different options as well. That is very true since so long. I agree with Craig from Earth's orig. I think Craig Craig from Earth's original comment is very spot on and it's really like a glass half-full half-empty. What's your worldview situation? And I was kind of speaking for Dave early on where it's like If you're looking just for a liquor to drink straight up vodka is pretty boring. I agree that whiskey definitely has more Dimension. But if you're looking for a clean page Outlet not clean Powell, but like, you know a a blank canvas where you can add other flavors to it. Vaca is going to be a better a better participate in that party. Then whiskey will be whiskey can have some friends but it can be friends with everyone like vodka count. You can do some cool stuff. Like I used to distill candy cane vodka so I can make something candy cane shots. There's it can really take on like a lot of dope flavors. And if you're if interested in just being like Oh, I want to get tuned up but I want like, you know, the sky's the limit with my flavors vodka is your Preferred Choice. So that makes a lot of sense day from Rhode Island. I'm with you on your comment dead. But I feel like if you're going to be in Dave's camp. You know, you're just not living your best life unless you really like, you know, push the limits of your vodka distilling, you know, like what kind of flavors can you get in there? Cause I still make fantastic, you know, like like for example, what if when your dog falls asleep useless stick appalled and your mason jar or vodka, you know, she a nice little earthy bark tones. And you know, when that evening of distilling is done. Maybe you you do some lemon zest juice in there sometime, you know, some empty bullet shells can swirl them around for like a month take them out and then you gotta work this in with your schedule of like feeding your yeast and making sourdough and ignoring your kids all that, but I think at the end of the day you would have a very very complex leg..

"On May thirteenth was going to be the grand opening of the restaurant and on May fifteenth was going to be the opening of the bar area ma which was going to be where there was a big Joe Louis introductory tasting event. And so that never happens. Among the things that never happened. So I, I don't know. We haven't really a re-addressed. What to do? When because I'm not sure one hundred sure when it's gonNA Open. Well that's interesting. I will share with you that I'm so glad to hear of them opening for a couple of reasons primarily because God bless him for opening during this crazy time we're living in right but the other thing Michael is that. I come from a boxing family in fact, my father and that's why when you know Joe, Louis Bourbon. I, mean sims this was meant to be I. Guess is my point because my father was sugar Ray Robinson sparring partner and yeah. Yeah. I mean in my father was United States welterweight boxing champion. So the whole Joe Louis boxing thing what a great time hand. Well, and we thought. And we thought it'd be an interesting conversation to have You know being a a spirit entrepreneur yourself. You guys are Sims is what six seven years down the road were seven years under our belt. Now, look at me I know a little bit of zooms history. Me Coach. So you're about seven years down the road for you know like spirit entrepreneurship and and again it's that word. That's GONNA get used out here pivoting So I was curious how did you launches as independent spirit entrepreneurs and then what are you doing to pivot now that that we've entered into the? The. You know crazy pandemic world well I guess for the purpose of educating our listeners how we got into this business was simple. And I think a lot of businesses people say, Hey, I see this I think I can do that better right and I'm not picking on the brand in fact, I'm not gonNA mention it but let's put it this way. It was a very well known vodka brand, a high end ultra premium brand interior walls, and I were having A. Vodka cocktail and his club after a round of golf. Nice. And he said this is not the world's greatest vodka maybe I gave away something. Better. So doing exhaustive research, I'm sure like Michael did. We said look let's find out about the origins of vodka. Let's find about whereas the motherland of vodka and we came up. With the answers that Poland not Russia is the motherland. Right SHOCKER NEAR You both know who we use potatoes to make our vodka. In fact, less than three percent of all the vodka produce in the world's made with potatoes tomatoes. So you're talking to my Irish. Polish side now got my Irish exactly in think about Thanksgiving. We all because it's it's it's all cultures but everybody celebrates Thanksgiving and think about creamy potatoes right. So we chose to make it in Poland in a two hundred, seventy year old distillery near It takes eight pounds of potatoes to make one fifth, and so that's how we started how we got introduced to getting into this business and then over time. We've evolved and then getting back to your question about pivoting I mean look, it's been a crazy time but how we achieved some success, you know however you may define. Nassar but how we achieved success with frankly shoe wearing through shoe leather like nobody's business we went out and saw the people we saw independent retailers we saw independent restaurateurs, bars nightclubs. Chain. Restaurants Private Clubs Hawaii bars, and we were out numerous pairs of shoes because with a positive attitude a good pair of shoes you can kind of get somewhere. Right? Now so That was in the olden days when there could actually be sales calls. Every week we had to lie we have to launch with no sales calls no tastings no events. The sales staff, the sales team for the distributor couldn't even get through on the phones to their off premise accounts because they were so busy they were too busy dealing with lines of people trying to. I understand it and I guess that's where I come in with a question for you Michael. Are you because is important are. You deploying your distributor sales people and rely upon to get your product in the hands of on and off premise venues well I of. Out as well. It's It's. It's in between that because we are obviously relying on our distributors. But our distributors are unable to go out and. Do that shoe other. So it's really how they can tie into their ticketing accounts. What we're doing is we're doing a we've. Launched, we pivoted to create really an eighty percent if not one hundred percent pure digital activation, which is social media, which is email marketing, which is podcast like this when gauging with with audiences and doing campaigns to generate. Awareness followed by brand affinity followed by user generated content. We're doing our wears Joe. Here's Joe Campaign. and. So the this these were things there were always part of the plan, but it wasn't the. Only part of the plant it was a lot of traditional that was going to go along with it. And that has not only has it You know we're we're we're reinventing even how we're launching and other markets even.

"Again, folks vodka man is cut warn vodka to pasted smoother and, and his thing. Is already okay. Yeah, and I love the beastie boys relive. All right. All right. Well that that's now I'm going to have to walk back on my own statements, but there was a big difference between one and two. Yeah. Yeah, seem smoother. I think we all agree on that in sweeter, right. Maybe I don't know. I would. I. All? Well, nothing sweep. The first one was just rough, and that had some sweetness number three. Roast. Interesting vodka. All the guessing vodka. You only the harsh to me was number one. Got an easier since. Yeah, maybe that's my palate being coated with Monica. Hey, do not throw this booze away. We won't by the way, that's That's how. how I'm wired. If you wanna pour it outside light on fire and kill ants. You can do that. I just can't take fuel and throw it away. If you guys want to go back again and just run through, just be sure now that you're you're, you're. Go back. Time, and then we'll take your guesses on one two and three. Again, they are either Greg, oops, kettle one or Smirnoff. Never want the first one to touch my lips ever. Again, I will preface everything was saying a lot about vodka, but number one, that's pretty rough. All right. I have a, I think I have. What do you guys have a power ranking here? It down more. About my order down. All right. I have it as. The the best one is number two. The middle is number three, and the worst one I'm going the wrong. I'm going top to bottom. The worst one is is the first one which I would suspect as a smear off. So I would say number one is smeared off. Number two is. Number number two grey goose. That's the most expensive one. And then the kettle one is the number three. Okay, that's that's what I guess. Also won a smear Nuff a distant third for me, I found to be officed Dushi to flavor whole three smoother. So I'm gonna, say three is the more expensive one Greg use and to cut a one. I absolutely agree with Brian. I like them in descending order. I thought three was the easiest drink too was all right. One was horrific. And I also grade that three was grey goose to kettle one and one was near the, I'm going to pick go home with ace man. His best three threes puts a little bit more hair on your chest a little too smooth. It's the goose too. So. So we've, we've all of us believe that number one is the cheap smear, and I would be shocked if it was. It was all of us believe very gross. Then we believe there's short of small differences between the mid and high end. And if we're right then I think the answer when you're at the airport is give me the middle. Yeah, right. But I do. I did feel like in my opinion, the middle had a little heads a little bit of a bite to it, like the first one did number two, you're? Yeah, I'm sorry. I had it as number number three. And number two was the overall mood for me, but here we go before I reveal these. I'm want to tell you that since I've been twenty one years old every bar that I go into when I wanna shot at two key lie specifically asked the bartender for a shot of the shittiest tequila you have back here back when I was twenty one, they would give me a shot of the represent, oh, the Brown ugly Keila nowadays, I just the other night. They make very, I'll see you can leave yours in the car or do you have someone watch your buried us? Like at the high end Asia places like you leave your chopsticks Dawson. Offer you a burrito.
