"Who is on his way back and curly in aaa buffalo so things are looking somewhat up for the bullpen ross stripling. You can't rule out as well. Who's i think starting to throw again. He's gonna come back as a reliever. So you have a lot of options coming your way for that and in terms of lefties as well you have taylor saucedo. And you've had ten days of this year who've done a great job especially to meza so you know you're you're you're okay in terms of lefties but for rab hand just Obviously a forgettable tenure. And something that i think all of us are going to try. And forget and we'll see what need pearson and brad baker offer out of the bullpen. But i'm super excited to see them. Get into games. We saw what may pearson i what he's done in aaa this season over the last month. He's a really good numbers there. I think you only gave up two runs in his last six outings or something like that. It's been really strong. Pitching for him. Out of the bullpen is last aaa appearance. He struck out the side on thirteen pitches so he really hasn't had any struggles in aaa this year. So you're hoping for the best. When he comes up here you can do what we saw in. Twenty twenty in that postseason series against tampa bay. That he can just come in and mow down. Batters what you're hoping for and the blue jays outside of jordan romano. They don't really have that flame throat or the bullpen. You know they have those other arms like tim. Meza adam similar but those are very different types of arms than someone. Who's just gonna go out there. And you know shaq you with their fastball. And slider and that's when pearson is and that's what the blue jays the bullpen so super excited to see what he can do. They're also super except for brian baker baker. I like honestly when the blue bluejays said there were calling him up. I kind of went. Who like like. Who is this guy. I feel like no one's been talking about him but he has great numbers and aaa as well is an era around one point six. He's been there closer in buffalo and he's been fantastic song excited to see what he has to offer in the majors as well so both these guys should solidify the bullpen. A little bit and of course. Now we've expanded rosters so they got more options in the bullpen. So a couple of good things there that we're looking forward to but certainly the loss of brad hand like like you said raising even if he was mediocre he had a lot to offer to this team as someone who can come in in the middle innings and someone who can bridge that gap between the starter and adam. Cimber to meza jordan ramada. Those i what i would call the top three relievers in the bullpen. Maybe after a period of time pearson joins at party but right now. I think it's those three guys who really have those high leverage situations Locked down and i think there's the possibility that brad hand could bridge that gap was there but of course the trae didn't work out but like i said you win some you lose them eat. You got to take those risks sometimes as those risks. Don't pay off so we'll leave it there for this week. Thank you ever listened to this episode. And we're looking forward to this big series against oakland like as much as we talk about the blue still having a chance if the blue jays lose this series. I think two to three. They're done i. I know we've said that..

"They were gearing up to make a push for the playoffs. And so i understand it and you look at ross atkins mark shapiro. Would they do in two thousand sixteen very similar moves. Jason greeley joakim Ben wa. I think his name was both of them. Ended up being extremely good for the team. This was another instance of that. You get a reliever for not a ton you don't give up a ton. I mean it easily could turn out to be riley riley adams ends up being very good and that would suck for the blue jays. But you know you you give up a guy you hope that he can help. Bring you closer to the playoffs. Maybe get you into the playoffs. And i'd say with all like basically what i'm saying is i don't blame the trade or i'm not mad at the trade. I don't blame anybody. It was probably going to be made in. Whether it was brad hand or god forbidden or god forbid but maybe was right to pair somebody else like the blue jays they were going to acquire relievers in some some of these traits work. Some of them didn't like look at adam. Cimber joakim soria. They've both been pretty decent for the team. Some trades work in a it. Obviously it sucks. That didn't work for the blue jays and brad hand is no longer with the team but at the time i would have still made the trade. It's it's a calculated risk and it's it's a risk that most of the time does work out for them and unfortunately this time it just it. Didn't they didn't give them the benefits that they wanted. But it's still a move that you make on deadline day good to hear cocoa making a cameo but I just want to come clean with these guys I hope nobody goes back to listen to what happened. Or what is i. i don't know about you. i can't remember. I know i was one of them. Who went back to last winter. When i said i hope the side brad hand when he was one of the hottest relievers on the market. You can't blame me. The guy led the league in saves last year and sixty games but he was phenomenal last year and he had a good year before that as well i just i don't know what happened. I don't know why he decided to pitch the way he did after putting on a jays uniform. I don't know what happened. All we know is that prior to the trade His numbers were still up. It was probably one of the worst years. I think he's ever had even today's washington but it was nowhere close to what the heck he did here and You know realistically. I had a friend. Tell me you didn't just trade brad hand for riley adams you you traded brad hand for what four losses and or three or four losses and as much as that pains me to say. It's not really wrong. You you know you want to go back to that seattle game. There was the washington game. There was a few games where It just i don't know what and We know the numbers he put up. I think it was a seven plus year ray and his tenure and yeah i mean look it definitely hurts giving away a prospect Riley adams for nothing basically at this point But it's a chance you take on a.

"To have him back because you still have a chance mathematically and you have a big series this weekend with oakland even though right now you're chasing the red sox more than you're chasing oakland still gain ground teams. That are ahead of you. Obviously so i mean it'll be a good series for him to our. It's a good time for me back especially this series and you expect to see this The rest of the way out and now you're just waiting for the entire the entire offense to look at the same time yet alone. You're still waiting for the offense to do better with runners in scoring position. So that's still seems to be a bit of an issue especially when you're struggling. Do that against the orioles mark. You're saying that third game yesterday especially was very ugly ugly win based on how they won. Based on you know blowing leads to the baltimore orioles. Who are almost lost. One hundred games. I mean they're near that. And they're on track for the worst iran franchise history. I think they actually surpassed at her. You know it just depends on how much worse they make it. So we'll see what happens though that but vladimir guerrero junior to have you back because you know. I know some people were worried. I know some people knew this was just i guess. Short term thing. It's just finally happy. Birds finally get to see you know back attributing. Yeah the orioles suck. But i don't think that takes away from vlade. Not at all. You know like they were facing other bad teams. Any still didn't have his stuff. They're facing the nationals. The nationals don't suck as much as a baltimore orioles at least record wise. of course that's a little bit misleading. Because they traded everyone at the deadline and they're far worse team now than they were couple of weeks ago but still like he wasn't doing the things that we saw him do this series earlier this year earlier this month against bad teams now that he's doing it even if it is against a horrible team i'll take it. I'm still happy to see him back on the horse. Happy to see the blue jays. Offense hopefully get going a little bit. I'm still very skeptical about a playoff ron. I know we're the blue jays are getting back within striking territory. If you have this series against oakland you take two or three you pick up games. Oakland maybe you pick up a game on the red sox as well along the way the three and a half back like we talked about last time but there is a situation where it happens..

"That when he signed that contract but as long as he's in the lineup as long as he's not reactivating something and as long as this is a big thing as long as nothing carries over into next season. I think that would realistically. I don't think the blue jays will make the playoffs. Hopefully springer can at least get some at-bats in and it can at least compete in and give the team a chance to win when he can but the biggest thing for me is is just make sure your healthy going into two thousand twenty two because the last thing you want is we russia he comes back to early and then twenty twenty two rolls around and he's missing spring training or missing at-bats because at that point then you say okay. What's going on here but at least for the time being. He's a presence in this lineup. And he's gonna help. This team compete as long as he's somewhat able to do so. Yeah you know what It's tough because you knew what was happening when he was gonna come back. You knew you were gonna get. I guess if you want to call it. Like a modified version of george springer. You knew he was going to be anywhere. Close two hundred percent and you know based on what we saw from on the basis based on what we saw from him just the way he was moving. I think it's pretty safe to say he's not even close to it. And i don't even think any of us no matter even if they get into a playoff spot in october. I don't even think for the rest. I'm saying the rest of the year. I wouldn't even consider centerfield from after what we saw. I mean i was at the game yesterday. So the the ugly win and i remember every time he put the ball player or whatnot. I remember i immediately was watching him. Pretty much the entire time even running up to first base running out fly out or anything and he is almost hobbling on one foot on one leg. And you know right. He's not close to being ready. He probably won't be a hundred percent until next year. Which is why jacob is. You're you're completely correct in terms of you know not wanting to push anything over to next season because that's definitely a priority and you don't wanna make anything worse than e spring can be tricky. It's typically for a great one spring. It's about four to six weeks and he was only out for about over a week so he's not even close to being anywhere or getting better from here on out. He is at the worst in terms of. I guess his health but you know going back to the game when he was pulled. I agree with the decision. I don't know if you guys do or not. I think jacob. I said i think you you did agree with it but You have to watch him and you know that no matter what is happening in the game for the rest of the year. Everyone's watching him in terms of how he you know just the faces. He makes him running and whatnot. We really don't even know how healthy he really is like a lot of this. I'm sure is him hiding in a bit but you know for him getting mad about being pulled out of the game. I i understand that he wants to stay in the game. But you know it's just kind of simple. If if george springer wants to stay in the game you gotta you know..

"To 1 to four. CBS s 855 to 1 to four CBS prior to us going to break And I was telling you about Shohei Otani. This yet. This man this young man 27 years old. Out of I'm 100 and 20 years basically of Major League baseball. He is the first player ever. Ever. To be selected to go to a All Star game. As a picture and a batter. Ever the only one that it's rare. In baseball when you you have a first like this, because there's been so many games, and there's so many different types of outcomes and permutations and just so many different things that could happen. This is wild. But unfortunately, I don't I don't believe all time he gets the attention that he deserves. I believe, And I guess I'm wrong because it's not the case. I just think that What's going on with Otani. His story. I believe there's a human interest story there as well. Baseball is focused on on cheating and baseballs and sticky stuff. And that focus that we would expect to see Just on the field is is not there. We should have more attention on Otani and Totti's junior. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Let's get some love for those guys. We're talking about sticky stuff. Next week Old honey, It's all tiny time, okay? Home run Derby. All Star game. All eyes should be on him. Maybe he gets more attention. Just for the rest of the season. When we get out of that You can tweet me, actually, our Sport Reaper. Right now we got C W he's calling from Brooklyn CW. You're on CBS Sports radio. Yes, sir. How you doing again? Today? I'm great. What's up? So, Yeah, I was listening to you earlier. And then, um, we as not only sports fan, but also as the MLB. You have to give These players credit where it's due. No one has come in and did what he's done. I think whatever doing It's just like how they, um, they underestimated Steph Curry. When he came into the NBA right and look at him. He's one of the biggest Vietnam's to ever touch the court right now, so it should be the same. Respect should be given to this player who was paying for l. A team, which is, um I mean, a very Luxurious team. I mean, they have money where they could surround him with players. Okay, how you said earlier that might charted injured like maybe it's not. It's not only about marketing, but it's about The staff. That's helping care for these players because these players are putting their on and everything in this game and not getting the love and support that they should be yet the marking that they should be done. They should be put out there. On, you know, on a pedestal because of the any day it gives the younger players were coming in a drive. To be more active to be more precise to be more in tune with the art of baseball and the sport that didn't want to play period. Yeah, I agree with you. Major League Baseball has a massive issue And this goes this goes past what we see And what we don't see which Shohei Otani. You know, we can talk about the health of the players and you know, are they healthy? Unfortunately with a lot of the technology that we have, and Fitness, health food, a lot of the information that we have at hand. We still got athletes that just kind of drop like flies. The New York Yankees. They got they got two giant outfielders and, Oh, I guess I can't call Giancarlo Stanton, an outfielder. He just Just a big dude with muscles who hits home runs. Sometimes. Seems like a lot of those home runs just Don't matter. He's a professional athlete. They're afraid to let the man run. Okay, So yes, I think that is a separate issue when you want to talk about the health of players, and not just specifically anything going on with the Angels. But baseball Not hyping up its players. That's the largest issue. The players are your life blood. Players are there who you? They're selling a product. Shouldn't be robbed, man, Fred, it shouldn't necessarily be your announces. They should all help. You got to put the flashlight on the players in the right places. Not checking them in public for being cheats. Who does that? That's supposed to excite. The fans are well, there were doing it. No. That's awful. Bob is calling up from Ventura, California, Bob you on CBS sports radio, teak and tyranny. You know what, Sir? Mr Jr. I respect what you say. Until you tried to make Babe Ruth. Are At Otani. Stand up that way. No, no, sir. Listen. Mr Babe Ruth play with walls. They had to get in the stands and bring it back. So they can keep playing. Okay, That's one And to put babe Yes, babe against Listen, I respect generations to come. And you, you are on some fine highlights. But when you start to say, babe, and I'm not prejudiced, dude. Oh, wow. I'm saying chair. Yes. Is that this new generation and you clarify that you start Hey, You know what We've got to move on. These kids today are blessed. But I can tell you this and I believe this. You're have to believe me, okay, but I'll know In two years. I bet you I won't let you I'm just kidding. Is that this kid? Well, he's going to Broadus shoulder. He's gonna brought his hamstring. Okay, Bob. Thank you. J R No problem, Bob. Thank you for calling us. Sure. I love you too, sir. All right. Thank you, Bob. I felt like I was having a sergeant slaughter moment there. I felt like I was back in the eighties and I was listening to you know, Sergeant Slaughter. Thank you, Bob. Luck. Is shorthand. Al Thani. Can I compare him to Babe Ruth? Can I say that Heat? Come on. That's That's that's ridiculous. If you want to talk about their careers, absolutely ridiculous. We are not there. I agree with Bob. We might never get there. It is unlikely but for what he is doing right now. Hasn't been done. Never Not even by this. Well, not by Bob, but not by Babe Ruth. Okay? It's just the facts. "Deck 8 to 3 Mets. We are in the ninth inning with one man away. The king will stretch and here's the old one. This one on a foul right back to the mid portion of the net behind home plate challenged him with a good fastball there, but only registering 90 MPH. It was location he beat Brandon Nimmo wasn't necessarily velocity, but it was the sequence in the location. There wasn't able to turn that pitch around. That's a pitch in the location. Left handed hitter. He's looking to jumped at 3 14 down the right field line here at Yankee Stadium. Kings. Oh, to pitch and it swung on and missed. Good. Giddy up there. He has a good Swifty doesn t 95 97. Yeah. The whole late movement there with some as a two seam grip on the baseball tell you what. King has done a couple of things. He's piled up strikeouts. He's fanned eight the game since he came in his pits almost four innings. And that's the other part of it, helping to save a big part of Aaron Boone's bullpen and a game that was getting away doubleheader tomorrow as well. Yeah, Mrs Swing at a foul back out of play by Francisco Lindor has two hits today, and he's also walk two times. Jim was talking about Shohei Otani and the home runs and all the offense and mentioning the pitching stuff, too. Is he without question your M V P in the American League. Yeah. I mean, it's You don't even expect him to continue at this pace, but anything remotely close to it, And I got to say Yeah, it's simply Bpm League next one down and in a ball on the door, man. It's one on one. A Vladimir Guerrero Jr is going to have a lot to say about that. I think, because he's had a magnificent first half but show Hey, I mean, pasted 60 home runs and he's getting out for you on them out. Now. He did come in here to Yankee Stadium, and they blew him up. Yeah, he had a really bad night. There's a lot of anticipation about that coming to New York for the first time, a lot of buzz and he walked the ballpark and fell behind. Of course, they would rally to win that game. 11 breaking ball that missed so two and one on Francisco Mets eight Yankees 3/9 inning The Mets have outhit the Yankees, 14 to 3. "I think when you add a lot of the other guys that they're missing it can only get better from here. Yes that there's no guarantee and aspects of the team the bullpen those reinforcements. I think the pitching's in to be managed a little bit better but as long as the blue jays. Don't go out and botch completely the way. They manage a series or a game in general. I think it will be good considering. All these guys are on the offensive side. They're they're doing well. They're getting better pitching. We obviously better starts from. Ross stripling and stephen matt's robinson great. All season hundred was is probably one of the top pitchers in the league so overall i think the team. It's it's been good i. I don't think that the earlier parts of april and may were necessarily an indication of how this team is actually going to perform because there were so many injuries. There was the hope that springer was going to be back. There was the slow star scurry. All wedding was hitting under two hundred for his first like thirty games of the season. So i think the blue jays just kind of had a really slow star and their whole looking like they're gonna roll with it especially as they get a lot of these pieces back. I think it is. It's sustainable and it's not only sustainable. But i think we could be in for a fantastic summer as blue fans this. Maybe the pennant race starts early like the alias. The first four teams are separated by. I think two games so this'll be a very fun fun season for the team especially considering that they're getting all those pieces back. Yeah i think it sustainable offensively because this is something that we expect but obviously through the pitching something has to change and if this is the end of the bullpen in terms of going out there and bailing out the starting rotation then obviously. The results of the games are going to go a little bit different. I'm not saying the jays will lose all of it but there's going to be a lot of what you saw on sunday in terms of high offensive scoring and now for a winning formula. How consistent is that. Obviously not really. So that's where it needs to change a little but other than rio because this is minus rio you need this from the other four to pitched six innings majority of the time you need to take workload off of the bullpen. So this expected collapsed doesn't happen or if it does It's like it. just it's it's a blip. It's like a speed bump along the road. I'll call alcohol at at that. So that's why that has to change. But offensively i just. This is also without george springer. And that's why it's it makes me believe that this is something sustainable on paper. We expected this. This and that the offense is going to be carrying this team but yeah the pitching. There's something has to change..

"To when we see is the bullpen. Is it really faltering against also a good team in the red sox the al east leader so is that is that where they are able to kind of rebound and know be the bullpen. That they that they really are. I think that's probably the best way to put it but yeah it was not the the bullpen that we've seen in the philly series. It was it was quite bad for a lot of it and it was scary. Honestly you know when you rely on your bullpen and only throw anywhere from four to six innings. A out of your starting rotation you need your pin to be good and we just didn't see that i don't think in in the philly series so i'm hoping that the the addition of jeremy beasley in. Aj throat the last week that they're able to take a bit of pressure off but again we'll have to see how how they handle this off day and then the next three games against a tough alias opponent. Yeah agree with you. I think it's too early to tell. I think the red sox series will definitely have an impact. Obviously the off day. Today they were recording on monday potentially helps but when you want to look at it we yes. The first game of the series it was transferred into get majority of the run strength or and a tour and rents tomase ahead three hundred. And i'll just fast for the third game of the series as well. It was pretty. It was jordan raimondo. He gave up one beasley one and then as a to so maison unfortunately had a rough series alone join romano dot worried about that was just it could have just been one ryan abused and then of course the beasley. I don't know how much the jas plan to use them. I don't know. I don't assume it's going to be in high leverage situations at the moment unless they are really depleted in terms of their stamina or their workload or whatever but the second game of the series is what i wanna point out for may fifteenth. I it was. I found it interesting. How i guess so travis. Burden came in after anthony k. He pitched one inning one scoreless. It was solid. Aj cole came out and he came out again for the next inning. He went almost two innings. He went inning and two thirds are the jays relying on on fresh arms. Engage a cold because of the other guys. I mean i wouldn't be surprised tyler. Child would of course and inning and a third so he came out for another inning as well that kind of caught my eye a little bit but the biggest part that caught my eye and we spoke about. It already was the decision of bring out robbie ray again in that sixth-inning on the sunday game. I'm not gonna lie. Because i know it was good for us because i agree with you..

"A great manager with Bruce Bochy, obviously, but you had one way of doing things your whole career. When you have a new manager come in, and a new coaching staff come in. Everything changes and you watch how veterans handle it. You watch how how they adjust to the new regime and what we watched last year with Crawford and Brandon Belt was remarkable. As to how they adapted to the change and it it wasn't quite as dramatic is getting traded to another team. But it's pretty dramatic. When all of a sudden you've had your security blanket that you've had your entire big league career taken away. And now you have a new A new group come in, and I thought the way that they handle that was remarkable. So I think that there's a lot left in the tank with with Crawford. I think there's a lot left in the tank with Belle. And and I do believe after what we saw last year in early spring training, there's a lot left in the tank with Buster Posey. So intriguing conversations. Yeah, it is, And I mean it just really startled. I was like, Whoa, but it's it's out there that they had. I guess Glaber Torres did not win them over at shortstop. They could move him back to second. Then they'd have to move. Let Mayhew somewhere but Anywhere, just just one of the first hot stove rumors to percolate. Make another one that cropped up I want to ask you about is the and this guy you could talk to us about. And this is something we talked about a lot with Pablo Sandoval through the years, but also maybe I don't know if you saw this with players Throughout your life, and I think Rick Russell comes to mind, too. But there's a story out now about Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Who we all think it's just, you know, unbelievable player and you would move heaven and earth to have on your team. It is now revealed that when he showed up at summer camp He was he was £30 overweight is up to 2 80. And he's now apologized to his team. And said he got back into shape and he said he's eating better now, But he's only 21. Mike. You wonder you worry about that. And it just gets me thinking about light weight problems in the in Major League baseball team. This is there are players who battle it all their lives and He's battling in a 21. That's a little bit alarming. Well, it is and first on regressive it. What is it about him? That makes you say he's great? But first, I just his swing When I look at his swing, I'm like in love with it. It's the most vicious hack and I think it's a Power hack, and I like a like a power hitter. Yeah, but what has he done? I mean, he hasn't done anything with 20. She hasn't done anything. I mean, really want more bombs, and he comes in with All the hype it and I think he's got rushed. I think that you know he was given the the title of chosen one early in his career, which I don't think he really I don't think he really earned it. I don't think he really went to the minor leagues and put up the kind of numbers that would give you that type of expectation that he's going to be. Ah, pretty all star. I mean, he was, you know, I see him on. On Twitter cm on Instagram and he be hitting along home run but is usually during batting practice. You know, it wasn't something in the game, so yeah, the guy's got power. Great. Well, Are you a hitter? I mean, can you make adjustments within a game? What do you know about it? So I second generation guys dead? Vladimir Senior mean he taught everything? No. He's exactly like his dad undisciplined. He's a hack. Now His father is a Hall of Famer granted, but this kid has a long ways to go and the one thing that he has to do. He has to get control of his diet. He cannot eat himself out of the game because you can get away with 30 or 40 extra pounds early in your career when you're 21 years old, But you can't when you're 32. I mean, look what happened. Publish Animal I mean, he cut his career short he really has. And it's a shame because he's extremely gifted. I don't think that That Vladimir grow Junior has shown me the type of talent that published Sandoval had. And I hope the guy does. Well, I hope he maximizes his down hoping comes agree out becomes a hole just like his dad. He looks like he's a great kid. He looks like a great teammate. And he's a guy that loves the ballpark. I mean, I love that about him. In regards to his talent. I think he has not proven to us yet that he deserves the reputation that has been given a young age. Certainly be 21 years old. Battling away. Problem is there is a red flag, you know, comes to mind also, Mike is ah, here. We're going to all these heavy guy. Prince fielder didn't his career. I had a neck injury. I know, but Didn't There's another theory that he thought that he fought the battle of the belt for a while, Um do you think backto like Bob Horner was kind of chunky or my misremembering there? I don't remember. No, no, I think because his career short too. I mean, he wanted pin in Japan were on me, and that was a tough out for me. I think Bob Warner is the quickest middle in hitter I ever saw. I tried to jam him in in Chicago when Dad threw a ball that was off the plate to see movement running on his hands and good nineties, and it almost hits him. And his balls shove all part of the ball park And I thought, my God, what? So he comes up the next time and I'm gonna I'm gonna flip this guy. I'm knocked him down. And I threw a ball right at his shoulder. You know, he did. He did out of the ballpark, and I said, that's it for me. I'm away and then my whole career I was a tough battle. And I don't think he ever maximized his town. I think he himself out of game Prince feel the same deal. Cut it short. You cannot carry that type of weight and play everyday Baseball is everyday. And sooner or later you're Your knees, your hips, your ankles They're gonna wear out on going to cut your career short..

"So i think on one hand that's true on the other hand i don't know how much the blue jays are in a position to say hey we have this incredible prospect that's hitting the ball like crazy right now i don't wanna displays kindreds morales and his one forty five batting average at a certain level if you have a bat like guerrero's and you have a team like toronto who again this is this is a team that is certainly in it somewhat to win this year like the idea that they're in this a little bit this is not an entirely turnover you know this isn't a team like any team in the aol central thin isn't the the indians are maybe the twins like this is a team that it's in their best interest to try to win right now at least somewhat and quickly made moves the off season to try to win a little bit so if you have this guy yet there's an obvious place to put him i would think the enterprising minds would be able to find something for someone that's hitting the way that he is and for the comes the service idea yeah i know that discussion we saw that with brian but you know a lot of times i think that does get a little overblown the fact is but you're talking about a seventy six seven years in the future nba you're talking about around that time a lot of teams particularly teams like the blue jays who do have revenue streams can like try to figure out something we're not it's not a lot of bryce harper's anymore where or jason hayward's where people just actually run into free agency particularly like i think what who knows what the market's going to look like in seventy years who does what the plan's gonna look like look around these are crazy i hope we're still here in seven years so the idea that we're worried about that right now for the blue jays coming at the end of a run which really they came so close and you know this is a rabid fan base that really has been loyal to this team for a long time and clearly has the excitement and is excited to seger honestly the.

"But you know they got more power this year and they've played well against their division which is so big but they've got a really brutal schedule stretch coming up here pretty soon that's going to be a big test but that's the team i'm rooting for but i think the team that is the most thing power is the braves for me i'm all on the braves bandwagon right now it's not just the kids i mean the fact that really two of their best players have been nick marquess in freddy freeman and freddie freemen's near done that that's no surprise mercatus is obviously you know well above his norm from the last couple years but what i mean by that is it's not totally dominated by you know twenty one year olds of the world it's not totally ronald kunia an agile bees and where you wonder about the staying power and the fatigue and perhaps in the second half there is some veteran presence on that club and and i also think they're going to be really flexible midseason when it comes to the trade deadline and alexander dopoulos is pretty aggressive dude when it comes to making trades at the right moment so maybe there moment is coming but that's mine but it it's it's fun man it's it's always fun when these teams kinda catch us off guard or head of schedule or whatnot as he said there there's not a great deal of that this season because it was pretty clearly identified going into the air which clubs were really making earnest effort towards contention and which clubs were in more of a transitional period to put it kindly but yeah i think these four do kind of jump off the page right now yeah and i think always saw last year with the diamondbacks and rockies you watch them all year and you go they'd lose two in a row okay is this it they're done they're not right they're gone and then the twins you know the twins up down up at the end the the brewers one eighty six games so maybe we're in that era of baseball where there shouldn't be any surprises and we knew in both the case of both affiliates embrace there's a ton of talent here their clothes you know if you're a fan of the suit teams you got a bright future.

"Vice making of the internet you've got a column on the internet and as tends to happen and it's on which of the four surprise contenders so far in two thousand eighteen braves phillies pirates and as as the most staying power in twenty eight teen and that brings up a really interesting question richard which of the four surprise contenders in two thousand eighteen do you think has the most staying power in two thousand eighteen yeah and it's hard to find surprise contenders because you know i eliminated twins angels bluejays mariners cardinals burs diamondbacks rockies giants forget it they're not surprised contenders i i don't know how you feel about this i said the phillies because the phillies lavish ninety five losses last three seasons but in that time herreros getting playing time nola franco those guys were getting playing time so you take a group that learns went through their health through fire you add area to the top of that rotation there good arms i think there's more arms in the minor league system i kinda liked their team and i you know do i think in some ways you can say the same thing about the braves in a different way i think the braves have stained power just because there's waves of young talent and also marquess and freddy freeman are having their best years it kurtz zouqi is not a young guy anymore and who knows what jose bautista will be but i i don't do you agree with me i think both those teams have staying power but i really liked the phillies well the team maybe rooting the most for is the pirates just because i think it's such a cool story if they trade two of their best players andrew mccutchen and gary cole and then make the playoffs that would be really cool i don't know that it will happen i think there's some i think they're a little bit over their skis there that the bullpen is that great.
