Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Because watching his dad come up and watching his dad play and starting off with the Expos, and then going out to Los Angeles with the Angels is his dad was a baseball machine. Like these are the exact numbers that his dad would have. He'd be like, Oh, well, Batting 3, 12 40 home runs and all. Yeah, I drove in. I don't know 130 r B I s Vladimir Guerrero Jr just looked like he fell out of the womb to play baseball. No surprise that his son is Doing just as well. Pretty awesome. You got to love it. "Who is on his way back and curly in aaa buffalo so things are looking somewhat up for the bullpen ross stripling. You can't rule out as well. Who's i think starting to throw again. He's gonna come back as a reliever. So you have a lot of options coming your way for that and in terms of lefties as well you have taylor saucedo. And you've had ten days of this year who've done a great job especially to meza so you know you're you're you're okay in terms of lefties but for rab hand just Obviously a forgettable tenure. And something that i think all of us are going to try. And forget and we'll see what need pearson and brad baker offer out of the bullpen. But i'm super excited to see them. Get into games. We saw what may pearson i what he's done in aaa this season over the last month. He's a really good numbers there. I think you only gave up two runs in his last six outings or something like that. It's been really strong. Pitching for him. Out of the bullpen is last aaa appearance. He struck out the side on thirteen pitches so he really hasn't had any struggles in aaa this year. So you're hoping for the best. When he comes up here you can do what we saw in. Twenty twenty in that postseason series against tampa bay. That he can just come in and mow down. Batters what you're hoping for and the blue jays outside of jordan romano. They don't really have that flame throat or the bullpen. You know they have those other arms like tim. Meza adam similar but those are very different types of arms than someone. Who's just gonna go out there. And you know shaq you with their fastball. And slider and that's when pearson is and that's what the blue jays the bullpen so super excited to see what he can do. They're also super except for brian baker baker. I like honestly when the blue bluejays said there were calling him up. I kind of went. Who like like. Who is this guy. I feel like no one's been talking about him but he has great numbers and aaa as well is an era around one point six. He's been there closer in buffalo and he's been fantastic song excited to see what he has to offer in the majors as well so both these guys should solidify the bullpen. A little bit and of course. Now we've expanded rosters so they got more options in the bullpen. So a couple of good things there that we're looking forward to but certainly the loss of brad hand like like you said raising even if he was mediocre he had a lot to offer to this team as someone who can come in in the middle innings and someone who can bridge that gap between the starter and adam. Cimber to meza jordan ramada. Those i what i would call the top three relievers in the bullpen. Maybe after a period of time pearson joins at party but right now. I think it's those three guys who really have those high leverage situations Locked down and i think there's the possibility that brad hand could bridge that gap was there but of course the trae didn't work out but like i said you win some you lose them eat. You got to take those risks sometimes as those risks. Don't pay off so we'll leave it there for this week. Thank you ever listened to this episode. And we're looking forward to this big series against oakland like as much as we talk about the blue still having a chance if the blue jays lose this series. I think two to three. They're done i. I know we've said that..

"I mean it's still turned out to be a decent starter a pretty good start it just that. I think this has happened quite a bit to them this year where he's had a good start up until maybe his final couple maybe his final couple of outsiders final inning and he just allows a bunch of runs in the final line of his pitching or the final lion just looks like he had a mediocre start at best. So that's why It's just it's just one of those years you can call a regression. I think we're at that point. I i still wonder why or what happened to make it happen so fast because this regression happen didn't happen slowly. It happened right away. And if you're gonna tell me at the bean beginning of the year. That stephen matt's would have a better. Era in september one hundred. I would have called you crazy. Because that's the case right now as re- as at three ninety-two creeping closer and closer each time to four and even mata's erase currently at three point eight so i i'm shocked by that but you know i. I don't blame anyone other than i guess. Just you know. I don't want to say. I blame you all like all of it on him. Because that's unfair when you're throwing a no hitter to that point. I think it's another situation as well going. You know just times throughout the game where jay go for six hundred and scoring position. Because that's what happened. They leave eight runners on base. They couldn't really produce any runs anyway in the game. They had a lot of opportunities opportunities to do so. If you put more runs it still would have probably been enough even if you had that blow up last inning last. Couple of batters like he did. So you know i think it goes on the offense half and it may goes on roof the other half i just. I hate blaming review for even half. It just doesn't doesn't sit well with me. Knowing that he had a good start prior to that last batter. You know with two outs in the sixth-inning that's why it doesn't because he was throwing a no-hitter up until them but yeah i don't i blame everyone except for montolio in that situation like why would you want to pull your pitcher that early when he is throwing hitter when he still had a decent line overall That's one of the last things you hope to do with two outs away the inning. As while you're hoping at that time he just gets out of the inning Clean and that's where you hope that you can go to the bullpen. Starting new winning fresh like that. You don't want to bring them in with two outs in the inning. I completely understand why he left it. Let him in. And i would have cut probably left him in as well so it just sucks. Because you know it's just been frustrating for a team that needs to pitch well. We haven't seen that all really this year for the most part. I know you had a good start to a good first couple of months. And then ever since then he slowly began. Declining are not even slowly just happened so fast and now you you know. You're you're a little bit worried in terms of the when you look at it the long-term now you have two more years of hundred hundred contract and look at the numbers he's put up this year. You're just gets you a little bit worried. I guess from that situation..

"Good to see him match up again. With danny janssen. Who certainly knew what he was doing behind the plate. It looked like they were maybe a little bit off on the same page. They weren't on the same page in the first few innings. When i think we're you walked a couple of guys. And he had a high pitch count through those innings but once he settled down the later innings and we saw those no hit innings of perfect innings. Coming in it was really great. Awesome back on the mountain pitching again. Oh absolutely and he. He ended up going into the fifth inning or the sixth inning. Actually he was in the low eighty s at his pitch count and had he had a no hitter. Still going. I think the bluejays would still pushed him. Maybe he ends with one. Hundred twenty pitches obviously off day. Maybe i i was saying to my friend. Maybe you go use the six rotation give them an extra day not saying that any of this is likely obviously doesn't matter anymore didn't get a didn't have a no hitter but I don't really know how people actually argue that. You take rewrote. Because it's just as you said. Markets stupid argument and one of the weird things is on the way like just outside the dome when everyone's walking trying to get to their cars and whatever. I heard some quite allowed quite a large number of people cheering or not cheering but chanting fire. Montoyo or something and i. I have absolutely no idea what that's four. Maybe it's a springer stuff maybe it's pulling review or not pulling an earlier. It's but whatever the argument is it's it's dumb. I'll i'll give people a fair shot. Maybe they have a legitimate opinion but it doesn't make sense to pull a guy who was a no hitter but the thing with ryu is obviously he had he had to out to strikes also on that last batter but the thing is he got rattled after that i think because after retiring many many batters in a row because of the the first inning was brutal for him to walks but after that he was used pretty much three up three down innings almost every inning but after that that one double that he gave up than there was a single or double the single a walk. And then the two run double. I don't know what what it is. Maybe he just lost it after that whatever it was but it ended up blowing up. His era went into the start with a three eight hundred. Eighty are a now. It's three ninety-two not really. I mean you can look into that and didn't go up at ton but it is one thing that i'm noticing is that even though he did have what looked to be a very very good started ended up not ending the way i think he wanted but overall i think it was a fantastic start and i mean he did. I get somewhat of a standing ovation to some degree as he was walking off the field because he did have a no hitter. Almost two thirds of the way through the game so it was. It was impressive to see. I you know you. You wish that you could see a no hitter. It's been. I mean i don't think any of us have seen a blue no hitter. It would have been nice to see but You know for you. As long as he's able to prove that he can get those those innings under his belt. And i mean we all know. He's a veteran. He did it with the dodgers. He did it last year.

"To have him back because you still have a chance mathematically and you have a big series this weekend with oakland even though right now you're chasing the red sox more than you're chasing oakland still gain ground teams. That are ahead of you. Obviously so i mean it'll be a good series for him to our. It's a good time for me back especially this series and you expect to see this The rest of the way out and now you're just waiting for the entire the entire offense to look at the same time yet alone. You're still waiting for the offense to do better with runners in scoring position. So that's still seems to be a bit of an issue especially when you're struggling. Do that against the orioles mark. You're saying that third game yesterday especially was very ugly ugly win based on how they won. Based on you know blowing leads to the baltimore orioles. Who are almost lost. One hundred games. I mean they're near that. And they're on track for the worst iran franchise history. I think they actually surpassed at her. You know it just depends on how much worse they make it. So we'll see what happens though that but vladimir guerrero junior to have you back because you know. I know some people were worried. I know some people knew this was just i guess. Short term thing. It's just finally happy. Birds finally get to see you know back attributing. Yeah the orioles suck. But i don't think that takes away from vlade. Not at all. You know like they were facing other bad teams. Any still didn't have his stuff. They're facing the nationals. The nationals don't suck as much as a baltimore orioles at least record wise. of course that's a little bit misleading. Because they traded everyone at the deadline and they're far worse team now than they were couple of weeks ago but still like he wasn't doing the things that we saw him do this series earlier this year earlier this month against bad teams now that he's doing it even if it is against a horrible team i'll take it. I'm still happy to see him back on the horse. Happy to see the blue jays. Offense hopefully get going a little bit. I'm still very skeptical about a playoff ron. I know we're the blue jays are getting back within striking territory. If you have this series against oakland you take two or three you pick up games. Oakland maybe you pick up a game on the red sox as well along the way the three and a half back like we talked about last time but there is a situation where it happens..

"That when he signed that contract but as long as he's in the lineup as long as he's not reactivating something and as long as this is a big thing as long as nothing carries over into next season. I think that would realistically. I don't think the blue jays will make the playoffs. Hopefully springer can at least get some at-bats in and it can at least compete in and give the team a chance to win when he can but the biggest thing for me is is just make sure your healthy going into two thousand twenty two because the last thing you want is we russia he comes back to early and then twenty twenty two rolls around and he's missing spring training or missing at-bats because at that point then you say okay. What's going on here but at least for the time being. He's a presence in this lineup. And he's gonna help. This team compete as long as he's somewhat able to do so. Yeah you know what It's tough because you knew what was happening when he was gonna come back. You knew you were gonna get. I guess if you want to call it. Like a modified version of george springer. You knew he was going to be anywhere. Close two hundred percent and you know based on what we saw from on the basis based on what we saw from him just the way he was moving. I think it's pretty safe to say he's not even close to it. And i don't even think any of us no matter even if they get into a playoff spot in october. I don't even think for the rest. I'm saying the rest of the year. I wouldn't even consider centerfield from after what we saw. I mean i was at the game yesterday. So the the ugly win and i remember every time he put the ball player or whatnot. I remember i immediately was watching him. Pretty much the entire time even running up to first base running out fly out or anything and he is almost hobbling on one foot on one leg. And you know right. He's not close to being ready. He probably won't be a hundred percent until next year. Which is why jacob is. You're you're completely correct in terms of you know not wanting to push anything over to next season because that's definitely a priority and you don't wanna make anything worse than e spring can be tricky. It's typically for a great one spring. It's about four to six weeks and he was only out for about over a week so he's not even close to being anywhere or getting better from here on out. He is at the worst in terms of. I guess his health but you know going back to the game when he was pulled. I agree with the decision. I don't know if you guys do or not. I think jacob. I said i think you you did agree with it but You have to watch him and you know that no matter what is happening in the game for the rest of the year. Everyone's watching him in terms of how he you know just the faces. He makes him running and whatnot. We really don't even know how healthy he really is like a lot of this. I'm sure is him hiding in a bit but you know for him getting mad about being pulled out of the game. I i understand that he wants to stay in the game. But you know it's just kind of simple. If if george springer wants to stay in the game you gotta you know..

Just continue to be eye-popping gaudy as all get out thirty one dong's seventy eight. Rbi those are pretty smooth stats for a complete season. That's a hell of a season but it's july eighteenth and there. i think i'm not positive to the number. But i believe there. Seventy two games left for the blue jays already. I'd say yeah. There's only twenty blue jay players in history who've had thirty one homers or more in a season vladimir guerrero is the twentieth and he only needed this many games to get there still a seventy two to go. "To 1 to four. CBS s 855 to 1 to four CBS prior to us going to break And I was telling you about Shohei Otani. This yet. This man this young man 27 years old. Out of I'm 100 and 20 years basically of Major League baseball. He is the first player ever. Ever. To be selected to go to a All Star game. As a picture and a batter. Ever the only one that it's rare. In baseball when you you have a first like this, because there's been so many games, and there's so many different types of outcomes and permutations and just so many different things that could happen. This is wild. But unfortunately, I don't I don't believe all time he gets the attention that he deserves. I believe, And I guess I'm wrong because it's not the case. I just think that What's going on with Otani. His story. I believe there's a human interest story there as well. Baseball is focused on on cheating and baseballs and sticky stuff. And that focus that we would expect to see Just on the field is is not there. We should have more attention on Otani and Totti's junior. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Let's get some love for those guys. We're talking about sticky stuff. Next week Old honey, It's all tiny time, okay? Home run Derby. All Star game. All eyes should be on him. Maybe he gets more attention. Just for the rest of the season. When we get out of that You can tweet me, actually, our Sport Reaper. Right now we got C W he's calling from Brooklyn CW. You're on CBS Sports radio. Yes, sir. How you doing again? Today? I'm great. What's up? So, Yeah, I was listening to you earlier. And then, um, we as not only sports fan, but also as the MLB. You have to give These players credit where it's due. No one has come in and did what he's done. I think whatever doing It's just like how they, um, they underestimated Steph Curry. When he came into the NBA right and look at him. He's one of the biggest Vietnam's to ever touch the court right now, so it should be the same. Respect should be given to this player who was paying for l. A team, which is, um I mean, a very Luxurious team. I mean, they have money where they could surround him with players. Okay, how you said earlier that might charted injured like maybe it's not. It's not only about marketing, but it's about The staff. That's helping care for these players because these players are putting their on and everything in this game and not getting the love and support that they should be yet the marking that they should be done. They should be put out there. On, you know, on a pedestal because of the any day it gives the younger players were coming in a drive. To be more active to be more precise to be more in tune with the art of baseball and the sport that didn't want to play period. Yeah, I agree with you. Major League Baseball has a massive issue And this goes this goes past what we see And what we don't see which Shohei Otani. You know, we can talk about the health of the players and you know, are they healthy? Unfortunately with a lot of the technology that we have, and Fitness, health food, a lot of the information that we have at hand. We still got athletes that just kind of drop like flies. The New York Yankees. They got they got two giant outfielders and, Oh, I guess I can't call Giancarlo Stanton, an outfielder. He just Just a big dude with muscles who hits home runs. Sometimes. Seems like a lot of those home runs just Don't matter. He's a professional athlete. They're afraid to let the man run. Okay, So yes, I think that is a separate issue when you want to talk about the health of players, and not just specifically anything going on with the Angels. But baseball Not hyping up its players. That's the largest issue. The players are your life blood. Players are there who you? They're selling a product. Shouldn't be robbed, man, Fred, it shouldn't necessarily be your announces. They should all help. You got to put the flashlight on the players in the right places. Not checking them in public for being cheats. Who does that? That's supposed to excite. The fans are well, there were doing it. No. That's awful. Bob is calling up from Ventura, California, Bob you on CBS sports radio, teak and tyranny. You know what, Sir? Mr Jr. I respect what you say. Until you tried to make Babe Ruth. Are At Otani. Stand up that way. No, no, sir. Listen. Mr Babe Ruth play with walls. They had to get in the stands and bring it back. So they can keep playing. Okay, That's one And to put babe Yes, babe against Listen, I respect generations to come. And you, you are on some fine highlights. But when you start to say, babe, and I'm not prejudiced, dude. Oh, wow. I'm saying chair. Yes. Is that this new generation and you clarify that you start Hey, You know what We've got to move on. These kids today are blessed. But I can tell you this and I believe this. You're have to believe me, okay, but I'll know In two years. I bet you I won't let you I'm just kidding. Is that this kid? Well, he's going to Broadus shoulder. He's gonna brought his hamstring. Okay, Bob. Thank you. J R No problem, Bob. Thank you for calling us. Sure. I love you too, sir. All right. Thank you, Bob. I felt like I was having a sergeant slaughter moment there. I felt like I was back in the eighties and I was listening to you know, Sergeant Slaughter. Thank you, Bob. Luck. Is shorthand. Al Thani. Can I compare him to Babe Ruth? Can I say that Heat? Come on. That's That's that's ridiculous. If you want to talk about their careers, absolutely ridiculous. We are not there. I agree with Bob. We might never get there. It is unlikely but for what he is doing right now. Hasn't been done. Never Not even by this. Well, not by Bob, but not by Babe Ruth. Okay? It's just the facts. "I think when you add a lot of the other guys that they're missing it can only get better from here. Yes that there's no guarantee and aspects of the team the bullpen those reinforcements. I think the pitching's in to be managed a little bit better but as long as the blue jays. Don't go out and botch completely the way. They manage a series or a game in general. I think it will be good considering. All these guys are on the offensive side. They're they're doing well. They're getting better pitching. We obviously better starts from. Ross stripling and stephen matt's robinson great. All season hundred was is probably one of the top pitchers in the league so overall i think the team. It's it's been good i. I don't think that the earlier parts of april and may were necessarily an indication of how this team is actually going to perform because there were so many injuries. There was the hope that springer was going to be back. There was the slow star scurry. All wedding was hitting under two hundred for his first like thirty games of the season. So i think the blue jays just kind of had a really slow star and their whole looking like they're gonna roll with it especially as they get a lot of these pieces back. I think it is. It's sustainable and it's not only sustainable. But i think we could be in for a fantastic summer as blue fans this. Maybe the pennant race starts early like the alias. The first four teams are separated by. I think two games so this'll be a very fun fun season for the team especially considering that they're getting all those pieces back. Yeah i think it sustainable offensively because this is something that we expect but obviously through the pitching something has to change and if this is the end of the bullpen in terms of going out there and bailing out the starting rotation then obviously. The results of the games are going to go a little bit different. I'm not saying the jays will lose all of it but there's going to be a lot of what you saw on sunday in terms of high offensive scoring and now for a winning formula. How consistent is that. Obviously not really. So that's where it needs to change a little but other than rio because this is minus rio you need this from the other four to pitched six innings majority of the time you need to take workload off of the bullpen. So this expected collapsed doesn't happen or if it does It's like it. just it's it's a blip. It's like a speed bump along the road. I'll call alcohol at at that. So that's why that has to change. But offensively i just. This is also without george springer. And that's why it's it makes me believe that this is something sustainable on paper. We expected this. This and that the offense is going to be carrying this team but yeah the pitching. There's something has to change..

"To when we see is the bullpen. Is it really faltering against also a good team in the red sox the al east leader so is that is that where they are able to kind of rebound and know be the bullpen. That they that they really are. I think that's probably the best way to put it but yeah it was not the the bullpen that we've seen in the philly series. It was it was quite bad for a lot of it and it was scary. Honestly you know when you rely on your bullpen and only throw anywhere from four to six innings. A out of your starting rotation you need your pin to be good and we just didn't see that i don't think in in the philly series so i'm hoping that the the addition of jeremy beasley in. Aj throat the last week that they're able to take a bit of pressure off but again we'll have to see how how they handle this off day and then the next three games against a tough alias opponent. Yeah agree with you. I think it's too early to tell. I think the red sox series will definitely have an impact. Obviously the off day. Today they were recording on monday potentially helps but when you want to look at it we yes. The first game of the series it was transferred into get majority of the run strength or and a tour and rents tomase ahead three hundred. And i'll just fast for the third game of the series as well. It was pretty. It was jordan raimondo. He gave up one beasley one and then as a to so maison unfortunately had a rough series alone join romano dot worried about that was just it could have just been one ryan abused and then of course the beasley. I don't know how much the jas plan to use them. I don't know. I don't assume it's going to be in high leverage situations at the moment unless they are really depleted in terms of their stamina or their workload or whatever but the second game of the series is what i wanna point out for may fifteenth. I it was. I found it interesting. How i guess so travis. Burden came in after anthony k. He pitched one inning one scoreless. It was solid. Aj cole came out and he came out again for the next inning. He went almost two innings. He went inning and two thirds are the jays relying on on fresh arms. Engage a cold because of the other guys. I mean i wouldn't be surprised tyler. Child would of course and inning and a third so he came out for another inning as well that kind of caught my eye a little bit but the biggest part that caught my eye and we spoke about. It already was the decision of bring out robbie ray again in that sixth-inning on the sunday game. I'm not gonna lie. Because i know it was good for us because i agree with you..

"Still hitting the ball lights out and over on the season. Like i mentioned second in the league and opie aspen. Either way. I don't know how much i want to take it from there. I do think it has a part in it. But i also wanted kind of focus more on him alone because we know all of the mistakes. He's made throughout his first two years. Are i guess with not including this year the mistakes made defensively offensively obviously have to make a position change right away maybe a little bit than anticipated and it just seemed that when he came up here those first two years two thousand nine hundred. Twenty twenty He was just very He was a aggressive swinger. He was a free swinger. he would swing at everything. And maybe that's just m not being disciplined while it obviously is but maybe that's also him trying to do too much. Maybe trying to do this do that. And i think over these past two years even entering now when we want to include this year adding into the spraying heading into the regular season. He's kind of understood the mistakes that has an the qualities that has to be majorly koetter and he's learned a lot from this and when you look back this if this is the year where he breaks out and then we see this consistently throughout the rest of his career in the bulk of his career in his prime. When you wanna look back these two years could are in twenty nine hundred. Twenty twenty could have been the best thing to happen to him. In terms of all the mistakes. He's made obviously read rate now or at the time. It was very frustrating. But who who knows maybe in the future when he's like this every year or hopefully he is. You can look back at twenty nine hundred and twenty twenty and realize that a lot of these things that were just meant to be for him to excel as a major league koetter. Everyone adapts differently. I know there's comparisons to ronald kunia. Fernando tatis obviously those guys adapted earlier or faster than vladimir grow. Junior did but you. Now you're seeing the true vladimir grew junior. He's up there. He's the big. He's one of those. Big names is being featured on here. He's being featured here. He stopped top five in terms of pretty much. All offensive numbers sees leading the bluejays alone in this and that. And that's why. I want to focus more on this. I've terms of his own personal development. And it's been very cool and very just remarkable to see the transition. He has made especially going back to last year to. This is a completely different hitter. He doesn't chase that this it doesn't chase it that we've had conversations about that. He's almost i don't know if he's still leading the team in walks but he's up there he's got to be top three still leading the team and walks. He's been clutch with runners on. He's getting base hits. He's more he's playing. Defense is good defensively. I think on sunday was one of his. I think it was as i air officially at first base when he had that kind of just A blueprint play. Unfortunately it happened but either way vladimir guerrero junior him hitting on the other team. I think it goes to mark's point as well is that maybe this is taken some pressure off of him in terms to excel. It's making him calmed down. And i guess just it mixes with that in his own personal development. But i do think it has a major point to you and Jacobs point mark Now i know we mentioned it before but the bullpen. Like yes.

"Episode one hundred twenty section one thirty eight. I'm your host mark collie as always joined by bryson and jacob. Power is doing great merck. You know jas kept off a pretty nice weekend. taken the phillies out and You know regardless was a sunday might have been a little bit of an ugly win but either way they close things off on a good note and they continue to roll a little bit rough around the edges but the blue jays still winning. Take two of three. They've now won fifteen of their last twenty two games And they are five games above five hundred for the first time this season and the first time since i don't even know they weren't over five games and twenty twenty certainly not in twenty nine hundred twenty eight hundred two thousand seventeen so it's been a while since we've been this good. But how are you jacob. I was gonna say the same thing series dub. I'll take it. Sunday was a brutal. But you know what. I'm i'm happy knowing that this team is it's it's really clicking considering a all things that's been going on with them and the offense is really come to light We've been talking about the pitching all season. We talked about the pitching mostly last episode. But today or this series is really all about the hitting you had vladimir guerrero junior hitting home runs in all of the games this weekend against philadelphia and he's kind of heating up after a little bit of a dry spell. He's still hitting over three hundred though. I don't know how much we can call it cooling off. It's certainly heating up there. Laura's grill junior had an incredible series. He had two hits in each of the three games at the blue jays. Played mark simeon coming off. That twelve game hit streak got it started again in the last game the sunday game and that philadelphia series so overall a great series for the blue jays. It was thirty heads. Total and i looked it up over the entire series. Only four blue jays. Starters failed to get on base. So that was marcus. Simeon in saturday's game and then three other guys in friday's game but besides that in every single game every starter got on base at least one. So that's pretty impeccable. When you look at it. So what are some of your biggest takeaways coming away from this series against philadelphia and going into some of these other series as we progress through the month of may. What are some of your takeaways. Well first off. I want to give a little bit of credit. To reese mcguire. He he played in a may fourteen and fifteenth game. He didn't play in the last game but he had one hit and five eighty four. Abc's actually my bad but he's hitting over three hundred this season so only a few starts but you know what injuries to one hundred kirk. Dana johnson came in recent wires..

"I mean, you know, it's it's it's Unfair that I remember Vladimir Guerrero fielding specifically in the 2010 World Series, and not doing a very good job of it, because you know, he had needs that were you know at that time balsa wood. But as a as a fielder. I mean, I know he had hose that I definitely remember, but in terms of actually going to get the ball, was he adept at that, or was he not very good at it, and his are made up the difference? Does anybody want to run on him? Use an offensive player first, for sure. You're right, right? He had one of the great right field arms. He had a howitzer. But as far as his how reliable he was a fielder, you'd probably speak to that time because you saw day to day Vlady Mohr than any of us. It was a pretty good fielder. Now, where would you put him? He was kind of little bit older at that point, hard to evaluate. He probably th a lot to me. Here's here's the deal. I don't know if we lost time, but His son is playing. This is where we are right now, in our in our sports, you know, or sports fans live will bring Tom back and just shut up, Tom. I thought I would be the one to Ah, Teo to get dropped first, and then it would be Tom. But power outage Vladimir girl, but I don't know who knows. Hope not Vladimir Guerrero, Junior. T's junior. Dante Bichette's kids. Both worship is that's got to be his kid. How many bullshit So there was definitely that is this kid. Craig Biggio, son. Place for Toronto. Africa is a place on a case or yes, I'm like that. But yeah, these dudes now you know, with 20 Grand Junior was in there for a while. He was the first one where I just went out now. This is Father. Time is undefeated, and he just reminded me via my sports fandom. When Tony Gwynn Jr was playing baseball, you say, Dan, that stinks. That's just after not for Tim, just selfishly like Oh, time. Where's the time Gone? Yeah. Totally. Well, How about Griffey Jr playing in the same outfield with Pops? You know he's there? That was incredible to watch. Because, you know, I mean, in the seventies, those of us who saw the big Red machine Remember Ken Griffey Jr and then Arkan, Graffiti senior and then to see junior step in and have them. We're in the same game. See that that made your dad feel angels that made my dad feel old. That made us be like, Yeah, the young generation coming up and we're going to take over the world. We're going to displace our fathers. Are we going to run things and out of this happening to us? We're just like Great. We're going to see somebody's grandson. Yet you think Antoine Winfield I just saw the other day Antoine Winfield this the junior the safety whose dad was a phenomenal corner at Ohio State, and then Oh, yeah, really good corner in the NFL, and he was like overlooked as he was short and small, Well, One thing you oftentimes passed to your kids your size or height, right? And so his kid is small and this kid was awesome. I think from Minnesota, the Golden Gophers, and he was just an incredible player everywhere you looked Tampa Goddamn, Supposedly the word out of Tampa's camp is that he is looking incredible. Antoine Winfield Junior Seau. It's a surprise Bees are in, you know, that's that's the thing. It's it's I've always found it funny how the The preferred size of a defensive back. Specifically, a cornerback has fluctuated over these last few years. It's going from big to small, small to big. It's just, uh, you know, over and over and over again. So now you know, it used to be you wanted kind of bigger ranger corners. Like Richard Sherman. You know, back when he was doing this thing big time with Seattle and see how it was doing anything I wanted longer corner, And yet now you want smaller corners, for whatever reason, they just they cannot decide on the size of corner. Everybody's decided on the size of a left tackle. Everybody's you know, decided on, you know the size of your linebacker or whatever. But as Faras quarterback is concerned, I just can't make up your mind. Whenever the wind blows, Whoever's done I've always now get right. I actually have seen Scouts I've talked to scouts have told me that that they literally will take every five sub 5 10 cornerback off their board for the first two days of the draft that they will not invest a 1st 2nd or third round pick in anybody at the corner position. Who sub 5 10. Right now. You you would have missed out on Darrell Green, right? Dear Green's a Hall of Famer. There's been an awful lot of smallish corners who are awfully gets so you wouldn't you would have missed out on all those guys. But that's just the belief of 11. You know, One guy told me that that's how strongly they believed in In size at cornerback on DH, then other schemes like you know, like this. The Niners scheme, the scheme that the Seahawks are running. They want that big, rangy, physically dominant 63 corner. I've always said that It takes so much missing so much athleticism to mirror a world class athlete up and down the field that I think you gotta look at everybody you know from. I mean, not everybody, but I mean, if you're 55, No, but I mean, everybody, You know, there's a lot of 58 guys. There's a lot of 59 guys. You gotta look at all those guys. You gotta look at the 64 guys. We I was just watching the John Beam the Laney College thing in that corner that they have Ray. Whatever is like, you know, 64 means big. He's a big brain Ji dominant corner, and, you know, maybe he'll be in the NFL in a couple years. He looks as if you're talking about small. Cora's, though. If you have speed, you're definitely better Keep an eye on him. And if they have good ball skills if you got speed, and you got a guy that fights for the ball, or Khun go up with a bigger receiver. And high point the ball. So you know if you got a guy who's 5 10, 5 10.5 5 11 and he's got some speed and he can Jump and compete with a bigger receiver. And you know they both are at the apex of the jump. And their hands are somewhat in the same place. Then. That's the dude, you have to look at you. You have to discount the fact that he is not as big as you would prefer your first or second round cornerback beat You Watched the film. Yeah, You're also the guy. And you're making a play on the ball. Then guess what? You're probably big enough brother. I'll take the five a guy making a play on the football, then the 6 2.5 corner whose two steps away from making the play in the football, right? I completely agree with you now. Ingersoll was going to join us and we get Warner. How'd we get into our corner discussion? I have no idea how we did it way We started out talking. Yeah. Yakety sax. No doubt we started out talking about Bad ball hitter, starting with Pablo Sandoval. Hitting a pitcher was 4 ft. Off the ground for a home run in Anaheim. We've got into Vladimir Guerrero. We think I'm trying to remember then we eventually started talking about the sons for Major league players. And and how we got in the corner on window shield, I mention one went. Okay. Good. Thank you Know what? I don't know, Yakking? It all made sense. Henry Sherman are Giants inside of joining us in the next hour, and it still looks like ah, the air quality not being but optimal. Not a problem for now. Giants Angels at Oracle, Still on six o'clock per game, 6 45 1st pitch Johnny Cueto is on the mound. It's all coming up here on the sports leader here, told very Kruger and.

"A son who is in the home run derby Vladimir Guerrero who used to light up the Seattle Mariners every time we played oh my gosh I'm getting old as in this my word sports update to ten forty after bill shorts on the home of the Huskies komo news all right well on the topic of baseball bud ceiling there's a name has been around for a long time in baseball and he's written a new book titled for the good of the game and talk to Tom Heller about it tells about the book what made you decide to write it and and what's the message you want to get out you know I'm a history buff and all the years that I was commissioner I kept thinking to myself someday I think I'd like to write a book maybe some of the historical myths or up some of the things that went on in short beard and but I'll tell you one thing was a lot tougher than I thought it was we certainly have a lot to draw from you over saw some tumultuous times at times and also help to an axe a big changes to the game and more changes have been made since you stepped out what is in your opinion is the biggest problem facing this game today number one I do think the game is quite healthy I I know that a lot of people think there are problems and I all all I can say the about that night we tell a story that years ago in nineteen fifty eight the sports editor of them Milwaukee journal said the game was more bond dying with this younger generation wasn't interested in and there we are sixty years later and doing very well how did that mean we shouldn't make some changes court that make that in every in the evolution of things that you need to make changes keep up with it and so you know I know we've worked on time in the game I know commissioner man for it is very aware of it is working very very hard on that subject and there are other things I think there's some adjustments to be made significant adjustment and I believe they will make if there's one thing you'd like to have people take away from this book and maybe from your time as commissioner what would you like that to be in all there were more changes in twenty two years and ever before in the history of the game by the way the Seattle club John Ellis Chuck Armstrong and all the people involved Kevin matter now have been wonderfully coop if I am I really mean that I I know you're going to market but I I can tell you that the changes aim unanimously but they were difficult they were painful revenue share with Y. old car managing where we would be today without the wild yet when I put the wild card in in nineteen ninety I got I got rip torn apart and everything else the work out okay interleague play as I say look change the whole economic change to the sport was the most and I used to have a theory about hope and faith having clubs chance to win doing all these other things so it worked out okay I guess the economic transformation of the of the system which had never been changed since the twenties and thirties we love the most the book is again out now for the good of the game the inside story of the surprising dramatic transformation of Major League Baseball thank you for the time of this and look forward to reading the book thank you very much been a pleasure to be with and that's come was Tom Hudler companies time five fourteen or in a rocking chair with our triple H. traffic.
