Alejandro Kirk and Kevin bijou scored an inning later who tripled the lead to 6 two. Visual added two hits. "You know, and the best thing about Mike tread is not only does he have the big white farm power. I'm going to say this off the record. He's got African American speed. He is. You know that, mad when they see that big farm kid sprinting faster than that? That's not right. And then we get extra happy. Okay, let's go back on the record. The last thing you want to do, yes. Mike, you know, I don't know why you had to is it racist that you excluded them? Maybe it is. Maybe I just shouldn't. I thought home runs Barry Bonds or Hank Aaron comes to mind when home runs for some reason. I like to think of Babe Ruth and Mark McGuire. And Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle. As well as some even other Ted Williams, said a lot of home runs, you know? Not mentioning him. Ty Cobb had a lot of hitch, didn't it? Home runs, but hit a lot of hits. Yes. Get on the nose. "The way they tanked and cincinnati hasn't taken advantage of this great schedule that it has in philadelphia and the mets. I don't even know why brought them. They suck to. But but but i'm telling you Wainwright versus sherzer and or bueller would be something to see. I would say the same about blake. Snell which would scare me. If i were the dodgers talked to did tweak it he did tweak his groin though. And you know darvish got knocked around. Last like san diego san diego's just the disappointing team of the two thousand twenty one season. How they've gone from the team that was supposed to be neck and neck with the dodgers to the team that has now twenty games back of the giants. It's nuts no you're right about that cincinnati you. You mentioned this without being specific. So i will be specific because i learned this yesterday. Last eighteen games of the season. Cincinnati has thirteen against the pirates. And the nats. If they don't become the second wildcard they need to clear everybody out because these are non competitive teams. That's almost got perfecto last night. Come on just awful awful awful they are they are terrible and i feel true pain for nats and having to watch managers or trey turner do what they're doing right now. I let me go to the other. League with teams aren't bad. They're not being yankees. Red sox the blue jays seattle and oakland there are two wildcards available for all of those teams. My correct on that. I think i'm correct on that. Two wildcards because chicago tampa and houston are going to be in normally so of those five and they're pretty good yankees. Red sox. blue jays bluejays so hot right now. Seattle nolan who he got. Maybe i'm prisoner of the moment right now. But i have been on the blue jays bandwagon most of this season because a and just like waiting for their record to catch up to their run differential. They've always had really high run differential. And typically tony. When you outscore your opponent your records going to be pretty good and the blue jays record just wasn't reflective of that and finally got caught up and own the first while right now and it to me the most interesting part of the blue jays Is when you take their lineup. And take their starting rotation and match it up against the rest of the american league. It might be the best like it. Yeah i think. I think it looks like it's up there with the white sox like let's. Let's look at this lineup. That they had last night. And i'm going off the top of my head here. They had george springer leading off marcus. Simeon who in any other year Would get a ton of line. Mvp votes vlad guerrero. Who is trying to push right now. Shohei ohtani to get mvp votes because he might win the triple crown boba shet- and tae oscar hernandez who's probably the most underrated player in baseball. So you've got that group of guys in the top five and then you've got a rotation. They traded for jose burritos. He's been awesome. Alex manoa the rookie has been fantastic. Hundred review has been great. And robbie raise gonna probably win the american league. Cy young the only question about the blue jays this point is their bullpen. Hasn't been great in the second half but they found four or five is on whom they can rely. They just got julian. Mary weather back from the injured list. They have a chance to run the table here. In the american league in their emergence has been the most interesting part of it. The second wildcard. I think boston. Maybe but i don't know at this point. It's it's to me. It's a toss up among those other four with new york and boston. Probably slightly ahead of oakland and seattle and I think toronto's in the best thing toronto didn't the bullpen was. Dfa brad hand. He stinks and they got rid of him and then leave another recognition. How terrible that guy. I'm gonna let you go. But i'm gonna tell you this the next time we talk. Because you mentioned vlad guerrero the next time we talk if lead guerrero is still alive for the triple crown. Which by the way might not only be the triple crown in the american league but might lead all of baseball which hasn't been done since mickey mantle in nineteen fifty-six and then you've got shohei ohtani doing something that has never been done and jeff. This is one thousand nine hundred forty one. This is when damange had fifty-six and ted williams batted four zero six and demographia won the mvp. It's an impossible vote on a lot of levels so you think about that because we will spend ten minutes talking about that. Because i would think if you're a baseball guy it it's the coolest thing to think about in all of your coverage about individual awards my wrong on that. Well tony guests. Who hasn't american league. Mvp this year you do. I most certainly do. And it's It's one of those things that some years you just fill out the ballot and it. It's just like okay. It's wrote you know you research and but you know who's at the top certainly. It's tougher to go down ballot. This year i thought it was a fade accompli. Where it was going to be otani at the top but vladimir guerrero junior is is endeavoring to make a case and and it's a case that i'm going to give some way to probably more weight than i would in other years because i i you know. I'm not the person who falls prey to the triple crown and all of the narrative heft behind it. I was the guy who the year miguel cabrera wanted actually said my try was the mvp. So maybe i'm just partial to los angeles angels against triple crown winners But it's gonna be it's gonna be a fun one to fill out. We'll talk about that. Because i think that in mvp land. I'd think taking your team to the playoffs. Means a lot to me. You know going into the playoffs is a big weight on that. But we'll talk about that the next time. Thank you jeff. Jeff passan boys and girls. We'll take a break. We'll come back with email and jingle. I'm tony kornheiser.

"You hope that george springer is the lineup for that game as well. So fingers are crossed for his status. And maybe this weekend again. You see him play so let's see And two other factors In relation to he him coming back and being the d. h. The number one factor is vladimir guerrero. Junior which is of course a lesser less of a big deal as the hunter kirk playing time. Because is going to be in the lineup. No matter what but it means down the stretch as we've seen the wear and tear of a season on him although he's hot right now hit home. Run forty forty forty one and forty two in this series. He's going to be honest fee all the time. George springer is back in d aging so. That's one factor that plays into this and other factor is boba. Boba shit wasn't hot before he was as cold iraq when it comes to what he was doing in the number four spot in the lineup. But now he's been bumped up to number one and over the last few days he's hot. He's had really good days yesterday. I think he was three five. That's what the blue jays need and without boba shut being hot. You don't really have a true leadoff hitter. Yeah you can put mark assuming up there. But i think the reason siemian staying at two right now is because he's found so much comfort and success at that point in the lineup in the blue jays like him there without boba shut being hot. You don't have a true leadoff hitter. So you need george springer up there you can't be rolling corey dickerson. In games like these as a leadoff hitter. That's just bizarre. It's off the wall idea. I don't know why the blue thought about it in the first place or why they considered it at all but you can't be rolling out corey dickerson. In the leadoff spot. So that's another reason to you. Know maybe push the brakes a little bit on george springer because boba shot right now. Ken carry the team is a leadoff hitter. He can find success leadoff hitter and helped the blue jays there. You don't need george springer in that spot to have success at the top of the lineup..

Look at this young quarterback in price. You imagine what he did in slicing up the defense he with twenty seven to thirty eight. Three hundred forty four yards four touchdowns. Good the big big number two zero interceptions so when you look at that he is for real out of alabama. Everyone looked at who is replacing. Mack jones heisman. God oh my god to oh my god. Ucla might be legit out of all schools. That doesn't even sound right. My warrant go get number four number four after watching college football this past weekend. I think the college football playoff really think about their twelve team expansion. Because there's gonna be some pretty good teams hanging around toward the end of this year. Although they probably won't do it this year they can do it. In the future you think about some of the teams that will never ever have an opportunity to play in the final four but a good squats. I mean just look at them. It's going to be a lot of good football teams this year or going to be good. Usc be good. Texas will be good oklahoma. The acc conferences done. Beautiful, beautiful play right there about this tomorrow. The punch of the fifth time got it away. They came after him. He got hit. There is no flag. Taylor, running to his right makes the catch tries to turn up the sideline, fielded it at his own 24 then hit late in the Clemson bench and the Tigers and their fans behind them. Are upset here. No flag at the end of this front play. There's an injured player down as well. In all this mess. And they are still tangled on the far sideline. Cooler heads prevail. 48 yard punt like Camarda, Clemson fans very upset. Here's they wanted a late hit, man. That sure looks like a late hit to me. "You guys are doing well. Sure are we'll get to what is typically a huge weekend here in a second but first and foremost talking of field of dreams today after the scene yesterday and dyers ville i will. What did you make of the game and the presentation I didn't get the all of it at game last night. That bluejays obviously so we had it on kind of a side monitor in the studio because it was starting earlier as we were Kind of get game mode ourselves but It looks beautiful like visually. It was studying. That's for sure and the players sure seem to Have a great time and all their quotes after made it sound like it was a fantastic experience and you know the game delivered to say the least what happened in the ninth inning chop it bottom so I thought it was very cool. I i was a part of a couple of those games back. When i was doing sunday night baseball. We have two one in williamsport Where the little league world series is played and we did one at a military base fort bragg in north carolina so I i know how much work goes into them. And i thought the The folks at fox did a great job and it sure looked great from what i can tell moving onto the blue jays. Dan assess what you saw there in los angeles in anaheim As they make their way up to seattle yet not great you know you would have loved to have seen them take three out of four. I think it was kinda almost predictable. You know coming off at first home stand and all the emotion taking three out of four from the red sox and springer home run to win it on sunday You almost thought. Wow maybe a little bit susceptible to elect down or a bit of a trap against the angels. They you know they didn't get swept. They split but I i think they could have done a little bit. Better burritos. just didn't have his best stuff. Obviously last night and vladimir guerrero xenophon for the first time all sees it really. We haven't seen this so They're not exactly clicking on all cylinders right now but they've got enough good hitters. The lineup still should be grid and really their starting rotation as a strength. I don't know how many people around you know. Data the us around fall saying oh bluejays brooks but You know burritos last night. Notwithstanding you've got him you've got ray you've got your. You've got manila and right got matched your fifth. That's that's a really good rotation the numbers bear it out over the last couple about so They're doing okay. They've they've got their work cut out for them still whether they are trying to catch boston or new york or oakland. They've got catch couple of teams to make the playoffs. So they're certainly time and they're in a decent spot in the standings but they're going to have to keep playing while they're going to do it dan. I know he's not going this weekend. But you just mentioned alec manila. We'd like to claim one of our own and anybody that comes through. We do that Here in vancouver. But what has he meant to to that blue jay staff and certainly this is a guy i mean the stage just does not look too big for him not at all and and we saw that in triple eight this year we certainly saw major league debut against the yankees and you know some guys come off his confident but you watch them or you talk to them and you go feels like a bit of an act..

"Otani feels like the game is in good hands now. The league needs better job of marketing. These young stars vladimir guerrero junior that home run. And that's an aside the normally understated job. I rarely heard it make a noise like that. When glad hit that law and it flew out absolute shot but fernando tatis junior is another young star wants soda who put on such a show. The other day The washington national star already a world series hero. I might note that zander bogart. Some rafael devers to red sox both got hit and this is the gains in a good place. I'm excited for the second. Half which really. I might note begins tomorrow night with one game one game. Only red sox yankees game series in the bronx. I listen. We're just this upstart club trying to chip away at this lead. You guys have with your big salary cap all the things that you've got that budget. It's incredible. look at this. Picture of sam stein. I don't feel bad for them in the slightest but the man is just i mean the stars on the blue jays the continued success of the raise the transcendence of the red sox and yeah the yankees aren't bad either. "Last night in Denver, Vladimir Guerrero Jr earned MVP honors. Show a Otani made history, earning the victory as a pitcher with a flawless first inning of work and then grounding out twice as a hitter. He's the first player in baseball history to earn all Star selections as a hitter and pitcher. Meanwhile, Otani, as you may know, has been called the Japanese Babe Ruth. It turns out that comparing him to one of the most influential figures in the history of American sports might have been wildly unfair. What Otani is doing, though, is far more impressive. So, says Jared, Diamond, baseball writer at The Wall Street Journal. Jared your take role in Chile Otani, who has been clearly the story of baseball in 2021 when he came to the Angels in 2018. Everybody called him the Japanese Babe Ruth, and he earned that nickname because he was a guy. That was a great picture and a great hitter, and everyone sort of thinks to Babe Ruth. As a two way player player who kitchen hit at the same time, But in reality that isn't what happened. Babe Ruth was a great picture with the Red Sox in the 19 teens. Who then became the greatest hitter of all time with the Yankees, But he really never did. Pitching hit at the same time, which is what makes show Otani so remarkable because he is actually Doing that right now he has been in the Angels rotation. He is playing and hitting every game even when he's not pitching and look. While no one's going to say that show Otani has had the career of Babe Ruth in this one way in terms of being a two way player. You could argue that Otani is already accomplished as much or more as Ruth ever did in that respect. Wow. You got to throw in the triples and stolen bases to right when you look at Otani As an athlete. He is unparalleled in baseball. The fact that we have a player that has 33 home runs before the All Star break, he's on pace to hit more than 60. This season. He also leads the American League or shares the American League lead in triples with four. He has 12 stolen bases in 16 attempts. He is clearly one of the fastest runners. In Major league baseball and oh, by the way, every five days he goes to the mound and throws 100 Miles an hour. Uh, it's one of these things where it's so hard to even talk about it or even wrap your brain around it. Because it's something that until now seemed completely impossible. It's like if aliens landed, you wouldn't really know how to respond. Because you can't you couldn't really picture it. That's what we're seeing. It's out of Shiotani, something that defies what we believed was possible on a baseball field. We're speaking with Jared Diamond baseball writer at The Wall Street Journal. His pieces called Angels Star Shohei Otani isn't the best two way players since Babe Ruth. He's better Do you get the sense that the Angels kind of hold their breath, though every time he takes the mound because he might suffer an injury, which would eliminate obviously him hitting and pitching. Look, there's obviously those nerves. There's no question about it. Look, remember, show timing missed essentially two full seasons pitching in 2019 and 20. He essentially Did not pitch because he had elbow surgery in 2018. And look, I don't know if the Angels would admit this publicly, but I believe from talking to people and also just common sense. This was the last chance for Otani to prove he could do both. If he had another injury in 21. I kind of get the sense that the Angels would say You know what we have? To choose, So there's no question there are those nerves because of just the sheer athleticism involved here. The All Star game in Denver, you talk to the other players, and we're talking about the best baseball players on Earth. And you ask them about showing Otani what he's doing. They can't fathom it because they know what it's like to be a starting pitcher or an everyday hitter. And when you ask them, do you think about if you had to. Then go pitch or you had to. Then go hit. They They say they couldn't do it that it wouldn't be possible. Just from a physical standpoint, let alone a skill standpoint yet show hate He's doing it. He's done it for now, over half of the season and look, I don't know how long it's gonna last. Maybe it won't last long at all. And I just don't think that's even worth discussing right now. I think for now the my advice to everyone. Enjoy it. Enjoy it while he's doing it, and if it stops happening, we'll figure it out then. But right now we're seeing something so exciting that I don't even want to really think about it too hard. And so, you said this hasn't happened before the American or national leagues, but it did happen in the Negro leagues. That is the closest comparison to what Otani is doing in the Negro leagues, where rosters were Much smaller than the American and national leagues. Versatility was required just to get through this season. There were examples of sort of true two way players. You think of guys like Martin the he go who, Uh, many people say just one of the best athletes ever to play baseball period. He played all nine positions. During his career Ted double duty. Radcliffe, who earned that nickname because the sportswriters saw him pit a complete game in Game one of the double header, and then get behind the plate and catch the other game.

"To 1 to four. CBS s 855 to 1 to four CBS prior to us going to break And I was telling you about Shohei Otani. This yet. This man this young man 27 years old. Out of I'm 100 and 20 years basically of Major League baseball. He is the first player ever. Ever. To be selected to go to a All Star game. As a picture and a batter. Ever the only one that it's rare. In baseball when you you have a first like this, because there's been so many games, and there's so many different types of outcomes and permutations and just so many different things that could happen. This is wild. But unfortunately, I don't I don't believe all time he gets the attention that he deserves. I believe, And I guess I'm wrong because it's not the case. I just think that What's going on with Otani. His story. I believe there's a human interest story there as well. Baseball is focused on on cheating and baseballs and sticky stuff. And that focus that we would expect to see Just on the field is is not there. We should have more attention on Otani and Totti's junior. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Let's get some love for those guys. We're talking about sticky stuff. Next week Old honey, It's all tiny time, okay? Home run Derby. All Star game. All eyes should be on him. Maybe he gets more attention. Just for the rest of the season. When we get out of that You can tweet me, actually, our Sport Reaper. Right now we got C W he's calling from Brooklyn CW. You're on CBS Sports radio. Yes, sir. How you doing again? Today? I'm great. What's up? So, Yeah, I was listening to you earlier. And then, um, we as not only sports fan, but also as the MLB. You have to give These players credit where it's due. No one has come in and did what he's done. I think whatever doing It's just like how they, um, they underestimated Steph Curry. When he came into the NBA right and look at him. He's one of the biggest Vietnam's to ever touch the court right now, so it should be the same. Respect should be given to this player who was paying for l. A team, which is, um I mean, a very Luxurious team. I mean, they have money where they could surround him with players. Okay, how you said earlier that might charted injured like maybe it's not. It's not only about marketing, but it's about The staff. That's helping care for these players because these players are putting their on and everything in this game and not getting the love and support that they should be yet the marking that they should be done. They should be put out there. On, you know, on a pedestal because of the any day it gives the younger players were coming in a drive. To be more active to be more precise to be more in tune with the art of baseball and the sport that didn't want to play period. Yeah, I agree with you. Major League Baseball has a massive issue And this goes this goes past what we see And what we don't see which Shohei Otani. You know, we can talk about the health of the players and you know, are they healthy? Unfortunately with a lot of the technology that we have, and Fitness, health food, a lot of the information that we have at hand. We still got athletes that just kind of drop like flies. The New York Yankees. They got they got two giant outfielders and, Oh, I guess I can't call Giancarlo Stanton, an outfielder. He just Just a big dude with muscles who hits home runs. Sometimes. Seems like a lot of those home runs just Don't matter. He's a professional athlete. They're afraid to let the man run. Okay, So yes, I think that is a separate issue when you want to talk about the health of players, and not just specifically anything going on with the Angels. But baseball Not hyping up its players. That's the largest issue. The players are your life blood. Players are there who you? They're selling a product. Shouldn't be robbed, man, Fred, it shouldn't necessarily be your announces. They should all help. You got to put the flashlight on the players in the right places. Not checking them in public for being cheats. Who does that? That's supposed to excite. The fans are well, there were doing it. No. That's awful. Bob is calling up from Ventura, California, Bob you on CBS sports radio, teak and tyranny. You know what, Sir? Mr Jr. I respect what you say. Until you tried to make Babe Ruth. Are At Otani. Stand up that way. No, no, sir. Listen. Mr Babe Ruth play with walls. They had to get in the stands and bring it back. So they can keep playing. Okay, That's one And to put babe Yes, babe against Listen, I respect generations to come. And you, you are on some fine highlights. But when you start to say, babe, and I'm not prejudiced, dude. Oh, wow. I'm saying chair. Yes. Is that this new generation and you clarify that you start Hey, You know what We've got to move on. These kids today are blessed. But I can tell you this and I believe this. You're have to believe me, okay, but I'll know In two years. I bet you I won't let you I'm just kidding. Is that this kid? Well, he's going to Broadus shoulder. He's gonna brought his hamstring. Okay, Bob. Thank you. J R No problem, Bob. Thank you for calling us. Sure. I love you too, sir. All right. Thank you, Bob. I felt like I was having a sergeant slaughter moment there. I felt like I was back in the eighties and I was listening to you know, Sergeant Slaughter. Thank you, Bob. Luck. Is shorthand. Al Thani. Can I compare him to Babe Ruth? Can I say that Heat? Come on. That's That's that's ridiculous. If you want to talk about their careers, absolutely ridiculous. We are not there. I agree with Bob. We might never get there. It is unlikely but for what he is doing right now. Hasn't been done. Never Not even by this. Well, not by Bob, but not by Babe Ruth. Okay? It's just the facts. He's fanned eight the game since he came in his pits almost four innings. "I think when you add a lot of the other guys that they're missing it can only get better from here. Yes that there's no guarantee and aspects of the team the bullpen those reinforcements. I think the pitching's in to be managed a little bit better but as long as the blue jays. Don't go out and botch completely the way. They manage a series or a game in general. I think it will be good considering. All these guys are on the offensive side. They're they're doing well. They're getting better pitching. We obviously better starts from. Ross stripling and stephen matt's robinson great. All season hundred was is probably one of the top pitchers in the league so overall i think the team. It's it's been good i. I don't think that the earlier parts of april and may were necessarily an indication of how this team is actually going to perform because there were so many injuries. There was the hope that springer was going to be back. There was the slow star scurry. All wedding was hitting under two hundred for his first like thirty games of the season. So i think the blue jays just kind of had a really slow star and their whole looking like they're gonna roll with it especially as they get a lot of these pieces back. I think it is. It's sustainable and it's not only sustainable. But i think we could be in for a fantastic summer as blue fans this. Maybe the pennant race starts early like the alias. The first four teams are separated by. I think two games so this'll be a very fun fun season for the team especially considering that they're getting all those pieces back. Yeah i think it sustainable offensively because this is something that we expect but obviously through the pitching something has to change and if this is the end of the bullpen in terms of going out there and bailing out the starting rotation then obviously. The results of the games are going to go a little bit different. I'm not saying the jays will lose all of it but there's going to be a lot of what you saw on sunday in terms of high offensive scoring and now for a winning formula. How consistent is that. Obviously not really. So that's where it needs to change a little but other than rio because this is minus rio you need this from the other four to pitched six innings majority of the time you need to take workload off of the bullpen. So this expected collapsed doesn't happen or if it does It's like it. just it's it's a blip. It's like a speed bump along the road. I'll call alcohol at at that. So that's why that has to change. But offensively i just. This is also without george springer. And that's why it's it makes me believe that this is something sustainable on paper. We expected this. This and that the offense is going to be carrying this team but yeah the pitching. There's something has to change..

"Still hitting the ball lights out and over on the season. Like i mentioned second in the league and opie aspen. Either way. I don't know how much i want to take it from there. I do think it has a part in it. But i also wanted kind of focus more on him alone because we know all of the mistakes. He's made throughout his first two years. Are i guess with not including this year the mistakes made defensively offensively obviously have to make a position change right away maybe a little bit than anticipated and it just seemed that when he came up here those first two years two thousand nine hundred. Twenty twenty He was just very He was a aggressive swinger. He was a free swinger. he would swing at everything. And maybe that's just m not being disciplined while it obviously is but maybe that's also him trying to do too much. Maybe trying to do this do that. And i think over these past two years even entering now when we want to include this year adding into the spraying heading into the regular season. He's kind of understood the mistakes that has an the qualities that has to be majorly koetter and he's learned a lot from this and when you look back this if this is the year where he breaks out and then we see this consistently throughout the rest of his career in the bulk of his career in his prime. When you wanna look back these two years could are in twenty nine hundred. Twenty twenty could have been the best thing to happen to him. In terms of all the mistakes. He's made obviously read rate now or at the time. It was very frustrating. But who who knows maybe in the future when he's like this every year or hopefully he is. You can look back at twenty nine hundred and twenty twenty and realize that a lot of these things that were just meant to be for him to excel as a major league koetter. Everyone adapts differently. I know there's comparisons to ronald kunia. Fernando tatis obviously those guys adapted earlier or faster than vladimir grow. Junior did but you. Now you're seeing the true vladimir grew junior. He's up there. He's the big. He's one of those. Big names is being featured on here. He's being featured here. He stopped top five in terms of pretty much. All offensive numbers sees leading the bluejays alone in this and that. And that's why. I want to focus more on this. I've terms of his own personal development. And it's been very cool and very just remarkable to see the transition. He has made especially going back to last year to. This is a completely different hitter. He doesn't chase that this it doesn't chase it that we've had conversations about that. He's almost i don't know if he's still leading the team in walks but he's up there he's got to be top three still leading the team and walks. He's been clutch with runners on. He's getting base hits. He's more he's playing. Defense is good defensively. I think on sunday was one of his. I think it was as i air officially at first base when he had that kind of just A blueprint play. Unfortunately it happened but either way vladimir guerrero junior him hitting on the other team. I think it goes to mark's point as well is that maybe this is taken some pressure off of him in terms to excel. It's making him calmed down. And i guess just it mixes with that in his own personal development. But i do think it has a major point to you and Jacobs point mark Now i know we mentioned it before but the bullpen. Like yes.

"Games on the radio with mike wilner and ben wagner in the studio in toronto and maybe ben wagner can't travel across the board right now because he lives in dunedin but that's doesn't stop them from still doing broadcasts with ben wagner. Maybe someone else. Who's in florida. Because mike wilner is no longer employed by the blue jays. Maybe it's jp aaron cbs. Who lives in florida like there are other options for the blue jays. And it's i do not believe that it's become because of the pandemic i think it's because they just don't want to pay that money and they're not going to bring it back and it's gonna hurt them in the long run and it's extremely unprofessional to be the one team in major league baseball without a dedicated radio broadcast. It's it's such a decision from rogers. And that's all i have to say on it. I'm a little bit riled up if you can't tell but another story line that we've been watching this. Spring is vladimir guerrero junior who showed up to camp weighing forty two pounds less than he did at the start of summer camp last year. A lot of people very impressed with what he's shown of course. He does a look leaner and he looks better and he said even doing. Just you know exercises in the infield drills. He can tell that he has more stamina more flexibility more energy moving around so it's obviously great to see is something we're keeping track of. I don't know how much it matters. I mean i think it's going to improve his performance on the field. But i don't think it's going to be a miracle cure by any means. I think it's more than his weight. The fact that he was just working. So hard over the offseason. That's the thing that's going to help him. The most like i said not gonna hurt him. Losing weight is probably a good thing in the long run. But i don't think this is a magic pill. I think the media is going to definitely overplay this because the fact that we're talking about this and instead of saying vladimir guerrero juniors performing better in spring training or whatever. We're making a lot about his weight..

John Hunter from The Frozen Rope Podcast

"Let's jump right in man to frozen rope. Let us know who you are and what you do. My name is john hunter. I am thirty years old from northeast. Philly i'm a union glazer by day but i am a podcast. Her by night a baseball podcast about three months ago during the world series. I decided to go for it. I never I always wanted to do it. But i just. It was weird. It was like a couple of years. There was a couple of years where i was just telling my brother like i wanna to do this. Like this is what i to do. And then you know just life happens or you. Just you know procrastinate on stuff and it just just ended up not happening. And i mean it's kinda crazy. I'm probably the only person you've ever benefit benefited from the pandemic. I decided like all right. Well i have nothing else better to do right now and i just decided that his by like all like the microphones already had headphones off but like my wife already had. My wife has a mac book. And i was like all right. Well why don't just get into it. And i'll do it. And then the world series happy. You know what this is what. I'm going to start it i. I was sitting on headphones stuff for like two months before i even recorded an episode and it was just like it was crazy. But that's pretty much how it all started. So how did you come up with a name the frozen ropes. Explain that all right so the frozen rope a frozen rope in its own. Right is a a line drive or a a like in basketball. It's considered like something that just like shack is. He just threw the ball pretty much of the rim. And that's like for baseball. Like i remember the first time i've ever heard the term. It was vladimir guerrero was playing. I think for the expos at the time and he threw a lot. He threw a liner from from the right field right to the catcher and the and the announcer was like that was a frozen rope and i was like i like that and then it became my gamertag on like xbox back fox three six and i was an like then it just over the years. I was like you know if i ever do one. If i were to go podcast the name of it will be the frozen row. Podcast and this has been since i was like. I don't know maybe like twelve. Thirteen new podcast. Ball's probably if i ever do something the frozen rope lock. That's also again all right so so explain a little bit about the process right three months in. Obviously you had the name. Since you're twelve yeah What about the logo and things like that. So the logo was pretty simple. Is the major league baseball. i mean. hopefully they don't come after me for infringement or anything but it's a. It's literally just a baseball. The baseball symbol. The major league baseball symbol with headphones on it and it started off as being red white and blue normal. The normal one and then. I got affiliated with media. Group called the buzz and they were just like you know we. We don't wanna get hit with infringement. They're like so. What can we do here. And i was like. I mean you could change the color if you want to your color scheme. And that's what they did. They changed it to their scholar. Scheme ended up working out pretty well. They put the ball in the headphones. And it was just completely just change. Everything about it so it was. It was pretty cool. That's awesome so explain a little bit about how you got connected with the buzz okay. So the i'm in like this. I'm a nerd when it comes to baseball. So i'm in a sports group simply just pretty much baseball. It's called sports chat but it's really not just baseball pretty much on a why they don't just change it a baseball chat whatever so it started off with that and then there's this guy like you know i told him i made episode or two and he's like oh give let me let give it a listen so he gave listen and he was like he's like you know me and my body just started a media group not too long ago with another group and the guy some. I went nuts so they just decided this move on from that it ended up being where they just were like a baseball podcast because they have like five. They'd five podcast on their thing right now and before me and all five of them were either for them. Were wrestling podcast. I don't know why you need that. Many good for them. And there's a guy who's actually from like england who's on there which is pretty cool. It's pretty cool. The way they do it. They're a great group of guys and it's pretty cool everything and then there was a guy. Then there's some rain on. I think there's a soccer program to that. They're trying to generate right now. Trying to get more people to watch and on anyone. You guys are in a soccer. But if he's argo try that and then Then they different stuff on there but it was pretty cool the way that it kind of came about and then i told them that i wrote. I've be right little articles. I've written articles for guys know the tattoo dunphy. So dunphy is a friend of mine. I've known for a long time. But i went to high school with a grade school. I believe too. And like i've known for a long time him in this other dude joe that i'm friends with a started a base. They started a podcast and stuff called like deep fly and they do a bunch of stuff for their own media group. So they asked me. Would you want to write for our so. I was doing like little baseball pieces for the phillies. And i would just write little things for them and it ended up being pretty cool. It was it was like a cool experience. So i get myself into that type of realm like i always wanted to do something baseball related. I didn't care what it was like i. I'm way too small to play and to old to play so it's just got past that and i was an in so i kind of looked on the other side and i don't know it's just something that i was always into so it all worked out well so so explain a little bit about So to download An episode from the frozen rope. What what can they expect. What some of the topics you hit Things like that So one thing i always. I'm a red sox fan. That's the start off. And i always tell people baseball fan. I red sox me and second. There's i never really ever wanted to do anything as far as just saying like i want to cover one team. Yes there is. Because i'm very diverse. When it comes to the sport. I know pretty much. I don't want to brag. But i know a lot i know i know pretty much everything enough to make my own podcast and be confident with the things that i say. Yeah so i feel as if when you go on there. You'll see someone who's not biased. You'll see somebody who you know truly cares about. The sport gives a good input on my thoughts. In how. I how. I look at the game. Yeah i got a guy the other day. Text me one of my friends from the from the union. Us just like it's crazy. It's like he's like. I feel like i know the game. He's like but you like no it and he's like he's like you. It's almost like i give him like a managerial like input. Like i've been around since i was like nine. My dad was a head coach of saint joe's prep. He was a great baseball player. I've been around the game my whole life and then it just you know i. It just been something that i've always been in love with. I told my wife. That's unfortunate. You are probably my second. Love will always be my first and she just tells me she hates me for that. But it's funny. it's just it's just. It's just how it's always been baseball's always been there you know and so it's i always wanted to do something with it and you'll see somebody who just did something with

Blue Jays face Rays as underdogs in wild card playoff series

"Playoffs start tomorrow maybe even today even yesterday as you're listening to this, we're going to go. I mean ordinarily take quite a bit of time and Karen previewing each series. But we don't have that kind of time because there are eight playoff series and they are best of three which is going to lend itself to all kinds of chaos and so we're GonNa go through each of these series intern. We're going to turn hit the high notes and then at the very end deliver, our world series picks So let's start with the top series in the American league the Tampa Bay rays versus the Toronto Slash Buffalo Bluejays. The first bullet point I have in my notes here is with because the Toronto Blue Jays with with Vladimir Guerrero junior and hundred. View. A Hundred Kirk. This is a wide team and I love and as much as as high as I am on the radio. I'm very excited. See the Blue Jays in the playoffs this help them or hurt them here I think dot you've seen all hundred kirk hit I. Think how can you? How can you say anything other than than the with helps them yeah. I like the idea that maybe Vlad as just gonNA break out suddenly in the playoffs because he's looked really good the last couple of weeks or so and it would. Be Wonderful if he just figured out how to hit the ball in the air and really had a great October and it'd be really fun if Nate Pearson came back from injury and turned into a bullpen weapon this month but I just personally don't see a great case for the Jays over the race I think they're both good teams. I. Think The an exciting team with a bright future but the race are really good and I think beyond review who is not even starting game one for the Jays I just don't have A. Lot of faith in most of that trump rotation or bullpen frankly and other than the game restarts it seems to me that Tampa Bay has the pitching edge both in the bullpen and the rotation and offensively maybe it's a wash, but it just seems to me that the the pitching edge is firmly in Tampa Bay side. So I think the Toronto Bullpen and this is going to be the kind of thing that gets said right before they give up nine runs in the seventh inning eight-game one I think it's better than baby. You think maybe they get given credit for I could see a path with this pitching because what they what they're going to try to do apparently is is bullpen game it with a match shoemaker taking up a little bit of load on the front of the maybe we get Pearson in the end of game one we haven't seen blake Snell pitched that deep in games in the postseason in the past, and then game too. I think you could make an argument that we use the best pitcher in the series. So if that happens. If. The blue, Jays do need to shoot the moon but I could see how they get it how they get it done with that said, this raise team just has so much depth in the lineup. There are good defensively they have so many pitchers not just the scary. Snell Morton tile glass now types just the I mean we saw this in the unfortunately in the for for me in the last weekend of the of the regular season where they shut down the phillies like even down to bespectacled Wade Miley who was lights out in the last game of the season yeah. The razor they've just got too much pitching I. Think as much as funny. It would be to see the the Blue Jays fight I think the the rates are going to take this one pretty handling.

Chicago White Sox: Luis Robert continues to impress

"Game. It doesn't count the standings. But, boy Oh, boy, I watched Friday night the Inter squad on TV, Luis Robert Too long home runs. This guy looks like a monster. It reminds me of Felipe Alou is managing the Expos back in the I want to stay in the mid nineties, and somebody asked him about this young prospect named Vladimir Guerrero. And he had not played in the big leagues yet, and Felicia's answer Wass. When you just look at him, you think superstar and that's almost the same thing you get. When you look at Louie's Robert because time during spring training, you just look at him and he just looks. Like he's going to fill that part of a superstar he has. There's just a GN it factor. And then you watch him play and it solidifies every year. Everything you think about the guy and it's almost reminiscent of like I said what Philippe has said about a young unknown Vladimir Guerrero at the time when he was coming on the market. The White Sox and mean they didn't get him cheaply. It was think $26 million for a guy you don't know if he's going to turn out, but you didn't hear Yankees Dodgers. Cubs, red socks like the ones that have the highest payrolls. Why was that? I know the socks have done a magnificent job getting Cuban players going all way back to Minnie Minoso. Tha Jose of Bray you they've got Moncada. But why were some of the heavyweights not chasing this guy? You know what I wish I had a specific answer for you. I don't have one. But I will say what? You just reiterate what you just said, and amplify on it. The attacks have been a really good job of scouting the Cuban players. Now Moncada was signed by the Red Sox and came in the trade from from Michael Kopeck. But with Michael Kopeck, I should say For sale, but it's just one of those things where the White Sox I think maybe they do their homework better than anyone else. And that's why they were able to get a guy like Louise Robert, because He just looks like the really, really feel He does just looking at him, and then you see him in the box, but it's like, Oh, my God. How good can this guy be? Um You're right. It wasn't cheap. But it wasn't like out of this world money either. And, ah, kudos to the White Sox Foreign office and they're scouting. You know, this is the work of scouts. Thes air, not analytics driven. Data. You define a guy who has never left the island of Cuba, where you don't have a lot of information. This is scouting. And obviously you look, I'm a big proponent of scouting, and I'm a It's frustrating to see how it's being minimalized and Almost extinguished in some places, but there is still a place for scouting. And here's a prime example. We're talking to Pedro Gomez from ESPN. When you look at a team
