"They're through the roof. They're unbelievable. When you think about all the guys who have played major league baseball. And you're telling me that only three players have knocked in more than two thousand career RBI how in the world could you not look at our pool halls. Hey, Garin and a rod those are the guys those are the only people who have ever done it in this game Alber pools is without question. The greatest right handed hitter of this century, the greatest hitter of this century for that matter and maybe the greatest hitter period when you talk about a right hand hitter. When you look at all of his numbers, stop poo, Albert our pool halls number three Vlad Guerrero, junior made his long anticipated major league debut. What a scene it was my goodness. He also wound up getting a hit a double and his first game. But a lot of people were talking about the patient factor. Was it bigger than anybody else's because there have been some players that we have been looking forward to seeing. There was Ken Griffey junior much anticipated. There was a rod Alex Rodriguez people were dying to see a rod when he came up in Seattle. And what about Bryce Harper? He was another guy. We remember him the Vegas kid with a homerun sports. Illustrated cover, but I gotta say this. Vlad juniors might have been the biggest his game was nationally televised with the social media stuff. It was big. It was all over. And then you had his dad Vlad senior in box. Sweet watching his son will cut aways to him. It was as big as it gets. And there's been other players who've had their son's debut win in the major leagues. But I gotta say given the social media aspect and the notoriety and and what he had done in the minor leagues. And how people were anticipating his arrival and it happened in Canada where he was born. It was so big that even the Canadian Prime Minister mentioned him in his debut. That's how big it was it spent two countries the United States and Canada. So I'm going to give it that flag. Guerrero juniors day. Byu was the biggest ever. Hey, I'm Andy if you don't know me, it's probably because I'm not famous, but I did start a men's grooming company called.

"So you could call the segment of the podcast phase three r endgame because when I asked Ben Lindbergh what he wanted to talk about it on the pod today. He said anos so here we are. We're gonna talk about baseball movie vendors endgame. Yeah. Well, done have impressed with that intro extremely topical segment. So baseball makes a pretty prominent appearance in the biggest movie ever, an I was gonna say you can't buy that type of publicity, but it's a marvel movie. So you probably can there's plenty of product placement inventors movies, but as far as I know MLB didn't by its way into endgame. So no endgame spoilers here except for this bit about baseball. But if you haven't seen Infinity war, this will be a spoiler. But if you haven't seen that by now, maybe you won't mind. So at the end of the previous avengers movie Thanos the big bad guy. He collects all the Infinity stone see has the power to do whatever he wants. And he's very concerned about overcrowding and running out of resources. So he Snyder. Bengals Alison Herman, call them. A hard core Malthus, Ian regime. He snaps his fingers, and he winks away half of all the life in the universe including half of life on earth. And so when we pick up in endgame, that's where we are. I won't say how much time has passed some unspecified amount of time has passed. And if you've seen the trailer for the movie, you already know this but endgame features in astonishing shot of a rundown overgrown abandoned city field. And then it also features one of the directors of the movie making a cameo in saying he misses the Mets. So this is just one of the times that baseball is featured in this movie, but I wanna focus on this one. And we don't know the details of how the midst came to be disappeared for all we know. This was just one more cosmic joke end all the Mets disappeared in the Yankees were all fined or possibly half of all the New York players know in real life. It's gone the other way, right? That's true. This might actually be happening for the Yankees right now. But maybe half of all the New York players disappeared in. They just combined the teams, but I think we are supposed to believe it's implied that major league baseball is over. It's just done. So I think that is what is suggested here. And as far as I can recall MLB seems to be like the only thing that the survivors miss other than the people who have been snap shared, right? They missed the the people were gone, but as far as I know the only thing about that previous world that they really miss is baseball. And I want to talk about whether you think this is I'm not going to say, it's one of the more implausible parts of the movie because I think there some other parts of the could probably take that title. But good. It's like, yeah. Do you think that this would happen in the post snap society would matronly baseball survive? Yeah. I mean, unless the posts snap society brings about it there. There are a couple of ways in which would and one. Is which one is is some statistical fluke like some disproportionate number of people important of baseball. Did not survive the snap rum, which is far as we know didn't add, and it we're talking about thousands and thousands of people. But the other way that that could happen is that brings about some sort of broader societal change that we are. We don't live in in what anybody would recognize his American society and his far as I could tell that isn't the case like everything just sort of picked up with half as many people. Yeah. It doesn't seem like there's been a complete descent into energy or anything as far as we tell. So it seems like things are still functioning I dunno as normal, but the whales business yet. That's right. The whales are back, but baseball snapback. So this to me, I would bet that baseball would survive that major league baseball would survive because I mean, obviously, it would be. Suspended for some time. And there's some precedent for this. When national tragedies have occurred baseball stops for a bit. But then it comes back in obviously during World War Two it continued..

"So there's less competition are and that sort of plays into the next question. This is so this is the early victory lap. I have a feeling I know what you're going to pick. This is something that you were a little off the board with early this season. And you've been proved right through the month, April. I mean, podcast listeners will know my answer. The raise, and I don't know how much explanation I need. I will just say about Tampa. Yes, they got swept by Boston two weekends ago, and people were worried. No, maybe, you know, this is just a fluke while they came back and beat Boston to attitude games this past weekend. The rates are still good. They will continue to be good. They just called up a great hitting prospect Nate low, and I imagine he will help their offense reach even new heights. My extremely early victory lap. So every year before the season, the states back to grantland like all the way back to like twenty thirteen. I put together the a list of the two players at each position. Who are the most fun to watch the all MLB dot TV team. And what is what what we've been calling it? And when I filed this year, my second team center fielder was Ramon Laureano who I wasn't really sure was gonna hit this season again. And when I filed it, my editor maller Rubin said, you know, I'm gonna let you have this one. But nobody knows who Ramon Laurie Otto is. I it's it's sort of a head scratcher, and he's been fucking incredible. This season. He's been climbing the walls. He's been thrown out baserunners. He's been he's generated more highlights just on his own than probably the entire American League central the season. So I was right. And Ramon Laureano is the goods yet. There's something so incredibly kinetic about an outfielder who can make any throw it adds so much excitement just as watching and you see the camera pan from the outfield into the base in. You're like alright is the ball online. How I the runner. That's a thrill that you don't really find another place in baseball in Laureano is obviously bring it the most of any player right now. All right. We are one more or let's wrap this up real quick your favorite stat of the season at my favorite stat. I came up with this category. Just so I could find a place to talk about this is have you seen? How brewers pitchers are hitting the season. Oh, yeah. I've heard about this brewers pitchers are hitting two fifty five. Two ninety six four twelve that's good for an eighty seven WRC, plus which is still below the overall MLB average, but gives them the same WRC pluses BUSTER Posey, they ranked just ahead of Kyle Schwarzer. Andy Lehem Anna's they ranked just behind Olen aeronautical and Manny Machado and since the adoption of the D H the best hitting season for any teams pitchers was the nineteen seventy four pirates who managed a team wide, sixty three. Now that means the birth certainly won't keep this up all season. But it's so weird. And so strange and such a massive record up to this point. That it excites me like, you know, only early season dumb baseball things we saw how brand would fit in the playoffs. Guess what he's hitting four fifty five this year. Maybe his Homer off Kershaw wasn't a flout standing mine is if you look at van graphs leaderboard for best hard hit rate. You'll see a lot of a you'll see Goldschmidt Aaron judge. It's twelve Joey Gallo is. Is second atop the list is Gabe cock legend Christian Walker who? Whoa. Is a journeyman to say the least he couldn't stick with the Baltimore Orioles for relatively recently. He is what I wrote about pita Lonzo I talked about right hand hidden college. First base prospects is even guys who mashing college. Like don't have a great survival rate in the big leagues. And I called Chris Walker marginal big leaguer, and boy, am I wrong. His heart rate right now is sixty eight point seven percent. Which that's incredible cannot imagine is sustainable, but he has been absolutely on fire. You know, you we talked about Jackie, Bradley, and Steve Pearce something for the Red Sox..

"Then you also have the obligatory seven twenty from Jason Vargas and add on top of the starter struggles the whole like Mickey Callaway refusing to pitch Edwin D as in a close game in the eighth inning thing. And it's a rather muddled mess from the Mets. I think you're right to pick the one, you know, that one unit you know, 'cause I think the whole team is fine. I've got every confidence this pitching staff of picking things up Mickey Callaway learning how to manage both had maybe not so much. He's were were starting to get a lot of data on him. Not really being that good attack Titian. But yeah, this is definitely something that they could be right up there. They still aren't Xiaojing for the division lead. But they could have. Giving themselves a little better platform to work on if the pitching staff, which you know, that's been the calling card for for the Mets for the past what four or five years as has been their pitching. And it's like you said been pretty disappointing. I will say not as disappointing as everything about the Boston Red Sox. So I think that the answer here. Yeah. And I appreciate you going a little bit off the board. So we're not talking about the same thing all the time. But we've talked about this length. You know, we probably don't need to belabor this that a really impressive comeback win against Oakland last night. I impressive, but maybe not completely secure. It got a little hairy toward the end base swept the raise last weekend. So there are signs of life. But they're still something like seven or eight games back in the American League east. And you know, Chris sales numbers are getting better the stuff, you know, is not Chris sale like yet. So we're still keeping. In an eye on that. But yet I thought this was the second best team in baseball going into the season and spicy to say they haven't played like, no. And I think you've seen some of their guys picking up. Like, even Mookie Betts is now up to a one thirty four PS. Plus, so he's hitting better just over the last week or two and we're still early enough in this season that one hot week changes a player's entire statistical complexion, but they have some real holes on the lineup. Like Jackie Bradley, jR, who I thought was going to be a breakout player. This year is not hitting at all Rafael Devers streaky. His entire career Bradley, Rafael Devers, hasn't really picked it up. So I think it's not just the pitching. It's kind of the entire team is in a bit of a Malays. All right breakout. Good player. So this is the player that is a lot better than you expected. Or maybe didn't appreciate how good he was. And then has really just had an incredible month April. So I'm going to interestingly about your Mariners point pick. I think he a totem of the early mariner success who's personal success might not last either that's Daniel Vogel Bach who had not really a clear path for playing time earlier this winter, but then Kyle Seager got hurt which moved Ryan Healy to third base and opened up a spot for Vogel back in the lineup, and he ceased it he leads the American League in Opie s he is second in the majors in walk right behind only. Mike trout. He's hit eight home runs. He slugging seven thirty two. It's basically like Joey Gallo starter kit almost just without the defense. And he's just been really like if you he's like if you put Joey Galloway, a pneumatic press now, and he's just been really fun. To watch and for someone who had always hit AAA. Well, but was maybe like aquatic a player who we just can't translate that success in the majors. It's been satisfying to see that actually work and force the Mariners to give him more playing time. I'm not one hundred percent, Dan Vogel, Bach believer. I still think there's some of that quite a in there. You know, if he's still doing this at the all star break than all. Yeah. Then we can talk about it. But yeah, he's definitely had a great month, April, my guy, I think is a little more definitely a different shape..

"Wrote about the marketing of our favorite player. Williams is to DO lot tour too. I wrote about what we might expect from bladder Guerrero junior based on the experience of previous number one overall prospects and Katie Baker wrote about the creation of young Vladi toe, and we'll be talking about her feature on the Toronto Blue Jays third baseman later on the show. Also, I'd like to warn you that there's a mild avengers spoilers in the last segment with Ben Limburg, if you've seen endgame in Infinity war, you're definitely okay? If you've seen Infinity war, but not endgame. You're probably still okay. We didn't get into that much detail by just be safe wanted toward you in case you wanted to hit pause and come back to that segment later. But I you've got that crap. All right. Let's kick things off as we usually do with my friend in yours sat. Cram Zack Hello excited as our producer, Bobby Wagner. Put it to talk about something other than the game of thrones battle. So other things are happening in the world to apparently you have been you've been burning the candle at both ends burning. I guess I use candles in western right? Well, they have glass candles which are magic. But I think that's further afield in this podcast will endeavor you've been burning the flaming arrow at both ends. How about that every go? So like Sunday's episode of game of thrones. You can't see what's happening on this podcast. It is only an auditory medium. So with that in mind, we're going to do some enema superlative. So I think it this was your idea. But I think it's a good one as if you don't have good ideas. Usually it's the end of the month were coming to the end of the first month of the season. I. It's appropriate to to recognize some of, you know, use this as a signposts in whatever you ask Ben to do any sort of end of first month's stuff, you know, draw conclusions from for many from a sample this small, you get a reaction that sounds sorta like so you, and I are going to do this. So we came up with a couple of categories couple awards..

"It's kinda that Vlad Guerrero type of timeframe where is essentially ready for the majors at nineteen. I would expect Franco to be on a very similar timetable where he's at least getting a AAA at nineteen, and then at least is lined up to be a big leaguer before he turns twenty certainly seems to have that kind of ability in the fact that these controlling the strike zone. The wave lad did actually his performance Blad was in the same league at the same age and had an outstanding season for a seventeen year old and. Wonder is beating lad pretty much across the board statistically and obviously has the better defensive profile as a Midland fielder while that that something to remember for. Sure. All right. Andrew, mccutchen has cleared waivers. I talked to folks involved in the process with giants. Say the giants absolutely want to trade him. Let's face it. They're trying to make sure they stay under the luxury tax wrestled. If they trade him, they can save about three and a half million dollars. It's clear because he cleared waivers the no team is willing to take on all that money, but I would expect here Keith in the next eight days that he's gonna get moved. He would make sense for some team to me top the board, no doubt about it. The Cleveland Indians who thought that they address or outfield situation by trading for Leona Martine. He's out for the rest of the year because of that bacterial infection. I think Andrew mccutchen would be really nice ad for them because of the low heart rate, the experience. He'd be terrific player for them down the stretching dot Tober, and I I would would have. imagine that it'd be a little bit like the deal they had with the Mets last year for Jay, Bruce totally agree. Perfect fit for them in terms of offenses, skill still showing pretty good idea at the plate ability to get on base. The power is down, but he's also playing San Francisco to the park that yellows power. Anyway, I think that'll probably bounce back in the one thing. Everyone's been killing mccutchen. The last couple of years to defensive numbers haven't been very good, but I think for what Cleveland would use him for, especially as a guy who maybe could fill in and all three spots. Just a guy who gives them some versatility for the rest of the season. I think he's perfectly capable of doing that. And I wonder to San Francisco's right field is just a poodle place to play. It's where he's played. I think most of the season, if that's also hampering his defensive numbers just because that's a lot of ground to ask someone to cover if you move to Cleveland to just about any other park, it is covering a normal sized corner outfield spot. I think he'd probably be an average defender. And I think if these doing that getting on base, there's a little more power. He's a pretty good. Pick-up. Maybe Cleveland takes on half of the salary that's left in, throws him a prospect to make it worth San Francisco's while so they helped get under the luxury tax. And I think the giants would like to add a little bit of young talent to recognize that the system still a little bit thin after years of contention. All right. Let me ask you. We know the Indians are not a team with unlimited resources. Let's say they got a little bit money to spend a moving forward. Another guy who also cleared waivers Logan. Foresight who's played terrific for the twins since coming over in the trade with the dodgers. It's a very small sample size, but he had those good years in Tampa Bay. I think people believe that he's a good player. If you were Chris Antonetti and your ownership said, look, you can take on one of the two guys, which guy would you go for? Andrew, mccutchen Logan, foresight. I would probably go with mccutchen. Yes..

If you're in that gonna show recipes, you'll go to the next one that's going to minor league baseball. This is buffalo Vlad Guerrero junior. He's coming over from third and make the grab on the ground ball. And then the perfect note of I for the outta you impress well, he's on my fantasy team green even quickly. Wanna run through maybe the block in the next hour. All of my transactions. My baseball fantasy team. We can do that, but just call them up. So yeah, they're not the biggest thing, but I'd like to see him on my team because I did pick them up. He's the number two prospect in baseball right now according to ESPN's, Keith law impressed by that. Then we're gonna have to come up with a new site at least the real video what I'm saying. Like all this other stuff run. Wait, this is crazy. I don't even know what this is. All right. Watch this. You got a holder. Catching a snap in each hand to kickers make their field goals basically simultaneously, and then the long snapper hit to water bottle off the whole watches against now that you know what it all is. Here's being just humiliating people in New York playground. Ryen russillo what this this is like, NBA players go out and they just humiliate people in play grants. Now, what do you think? I see. I think it's fun. You know what I mean? I love hearing about dudes Durant. I remember when he first learned about getting a van and just search out pickup games, but you've gotta know, and I'm sure jailings dealt with this millions of times anytime you're dude with a little bit of like an NBA we played against NBA guys, the ESPN pickup games years ago. You always do this thing. I remember Cianci Bill should be like, alright, he's not that much bigger than me like, and then NBA guy will just immediately remind you how massive that gaff is great to see those players barnstorm I call it like you mentioned just go from city to city planning, playgrounds. I remember one time when you when I first started working together on the old show, you can't. And I asked you to come down to play in the gym where all these Wall Street guys, every one of whom was one bad knee away for making the NBA by the way. And I said, come down there humiliate these guys and we never made it happen. Remember what you told me? Who are you in those games? We'll Chamberlain. Just like you just saw Joel like russillo sale like you could play the gay shoot a couple of jumpers or whatever. Sue somebody talked trash straits at a whole basket or follow every time. Yeah, I still want that to happen. Is it worth the these guys never get 'em because it can. If you look at again, I know having conversations of people in my ear, someone just said in my ear is it worth the injury? Embiid we all know what's going to happen. He's strains something with his injury history. He's going to get destroyed. Old thousands of election monitors fanned out across the country to observe the process but the opposition says it's Biased against them that despite electoral commission insurances that it will be credible, and an estimated fifty thousand gathered. Outside the Clark sports center in the village of Cooperstown New York for the annual baseball hall of fame, induction ceremony sluggers in first ballot electees Chipper Jones Jim Thome me blind the class that also includes Vlad Guerrero and Trevor Hoffman. Along with former Detroit Tigers at teammates Jack Morrison Alan Trammell with the six new inductees record fifty seven. Living hall of famers were onstage quite a sight and if you are, a Padres fan you knew what Trevor Hoffman could do, if you did not. Like the Padres, Hugh new at Trevor Hoffman could do if you thought your team was. Still in it maybe you had some hope all they had to do is play hell's bells.

"You on this hall of fame front today is the induction of six new individuals into. The major league baseball hall of fame Tribal Hoffman Chipper Jones Jim Thome Ahah Vlad Guerrero Alan Trammell and Jack Mars all these guys were on the ballot over the last twenty five thirty years This past ballot I would have voted for. Blood Guerrero Jim Thome eight Chipper Jones and tribal Hoffman and Hoffman had to wait, a couple of years before he got. In all three, of these guys I voted for. First time and every time they. Were on about. I told you that's how I would answer my boat if you're in you're in if you're. Not unite I almost never change. An opinion got two guys I've been voting for would've voted. For for years who I fear may. Not get in one I'm pretty sure isn't getting in but one is made a nice move, up into voting standings. The, last couple years is Edgar Martinez I know, he's only d. h., he played third base for the early stage of his career he never, played tremendously well went to first base played little first base but not much really but he was the. Most feared hitter for years in the American League and. Edgar has been on the ballot now for a while. And he's got an increased number of boats so he's trending toward potentially making It. I, think of a majority of fame world for, him every time the, other guy I would vote for it's been on for a couple of, years now and he's years are starting to wane he's not gonna be on the ballot that much longer. Is the crime dog frag McGrath Talk about feared heaters. Again power guy different teams different leagues no during the steroid era no, hints about him using steroids and yet was a guy with thirty to forty home runs every single year I think, McGregor hall, of Famer the voting. Population has not to this point and, he hasn't, really gotten close so I think he's, going, to have a real tough time getting in but I would have. Voted for those two and four guys who got in the two got in via veteran committee Jack Morris and Alan Trammell forever. I made the argument for Jack Morris big game Jack for a decade. Targets best pitcher And the postseason big games who is bigger than Jack Morris almost nobody in the last. Twenty five thirty years in baseball and he got closed Syndey almost put him in on his final ballot and the fifteen years I. Thought he should have gotten envy the writers he didn't this. Is, one where, I think, the veterans, committee, got it right and, basically overturned the fact that the writers turned their back on him for fifteen years the other guys Alan Trammell. Who was one of the guys who I never voted for I just thought he was short and the person. Who's baseball opinion I respect more than any on the planet is my, dad because I've spent my fifty plus years while on a game he spent his almost ninety years following the game, and still, is working and scouting. At age eighty nine for the Boston, Red Sox, so it's been his life and he Worked for the Detroit Tigers during the time in Allen. Trauma was there and he said you just didn't see what he. Did for that team I did I was there I was part of it he was the leader and he was the. Glue and he was the captain he was the backbone some of the numbers come up short and while I almost always take my. Father's word as Scott's bull and bible I. Think he's a little, influenced by the guy I think he. Liked them I think because he was there he's overstating overestimating what he did The, veterans committee bought into the same thing my father's bought into and they put him in I'm not going to blue when they announced. Him today but I just don't think from him, as a hall of. Famer and I didn't vote for him would not. Have voted for him if I had a vote any of those years he's getting into that congratulations to Alan Trammell wouldn't have got my vote I, want your vote on something and I'll, laid out for you when we get, back because different Allah Fame's baseball's, the one we're talking about today but the pro football hall of fame it's next week NBA hall of fame which is the basketball of fame which is a little different Hockey Hall. Of fame and the like different groups are. In charge of putting people into the hall of. Fame and they have different. Ways of establishing it I want, to get your thoughts on character Should character play into whether someone is elected to the hall of fame it is in some it's, at least considered in others in some, it's pretty much left at the door, before they invite anybody in doesn't, really matter what you characters get your take on how important character should be when talking about whether someone should or shouldn't be all of Famer eight five five two two four CBS. Phones coming up next that's promise right now CBS, sports update.

"To be and you guys know this from literally gone up if you swing for the fences you might hit some home runs we also going to strike out a little bit when you try to make more contact and go the opposite way and strike out less well you may not hit as many home runs but they believe that they're homerun hitters will appear that if you are a home run hitter likes warburg like brian like results those will show up over time so they're confident they'd rather have it sort of this way where they're better with their batting average there a little bit better and situational hitting they're certainly better going to the opposite way they'd rather have that and be eleventh in home runs and figured that will show up joe man and as recently as yesterday said and i thought it was real it's real interesting if you think about this way pitchers throw home runs hitters don't hit them in other words you need a cookie to hit a home run most of the time unless you're vlad guerrero somewhere bad ball hitter maybe by once in a while but pitchers throw homerun hitters get hits off a bad pitches sometimes hitters picture sometimes pitchers pitcher sometimes but you don't always go deep unless you have that cookie so that's what's behind this this this effort to diversify the offense so to speak but they believe the home runs will show up and if they do watch out this'll be a real dynamic offense heading down the stretch run jesse where we're talking earlier about the saint louis cardinals in how all three of us grew up watching the cartels used to be the standard as far as fundamentals in baseball just being able to hit the other ways take an extra base can you put your finger on why the cardinals look so so below average in a lot of different categories in them athenee.
