"To a lot of success. A lot of success. Because i will. I will point out. They had the throwback weekend which By the way. I don't know if you noticed when you posted those pictures of the dale earnhardt stuff tag. Oh did he do you tag. They'll i'm hoping that you get a little bit while he liked one of them. Okay so so let me give it a little bit of background My every day job is with with an ex events detract production and events company. And i got there earlier. This year at bristol dirt nationals and now i you call me the social media ninja and that's day today but in on vet day i am in the booth calling the action call all the texas. Yeah all the texas stuff every single one of them so i got to give a big shout out to To my buddy gave florez. Who was the on the ground. Ninja showcasing all of the Social media at the track on event day he used to be the social media guy at texas motor speedway and we became good friends through social media when i worked at chicago land so yes day-to-day. I am the ninja. But i handle duty station on event day. Because i'm in the booth and if you all didn't aren't friends with me if y'all aren't friends with me on facebook i decided to. I decided to post a live video of myself and my co announcer calling a final couple races during the event. So if you If your friends with may go check it out. I thought that was pretty cool. Would just kind of showcase what what we're doing and and how we do it up there in the booth because a lot of people don't get to see that you know the other part of it was that if you're up on the roof at texas dirt track you can actually see into the the cup try and that's how i watch. The xfinity series race was was on the roof of the dirt track. I don't think they'll mind too much. didn't pay for a ticket as my love. X. are yeah and And got to watch. John hundred nemechek win that race and then we went over and had a good time at the texas motor speedway cup series race Got down on pit road. Had a sweet man. It was just such a great time because in working in racing. I don't get to be race fan very often. I get to you know either. Call stuff reduce social media or or run a mud bog. Like i did a couple of weeks ago over it Over it or or whatever it was great to actually be able to be a race fan and and enjoy a race. Heff you dealt beverages and just enjoy it and and the race was with the race was a good race. Kyle larson dominated. He's going to be in the championship for. He doesn't have to lock himself into The championship for anymore. Which will happen a couple of weeks at martinsville of course on october thirty first in the xfinity. Five hundred nascar cup series race. It was a good weekend. All our are racing. Virginia competitive. I mean brandon brandon brown brandon head trouble denny had trouble yeah not not great. Bubba had trouble in denny's car not not the greatest to nascar weekend for racing virginia for short. But hey they're still in. I think harrison still in the running harrison still in the running for the series championship. Jeb got knocked out a couple of weeks ago at the wroval trying to get him away on. yeah. I hope he gets one. I really do. Yeah i'll get one more because he got talladega earlier that you know. I know the looking forward looking forward. We got the kansas this coming weekend. Yeah for men. But more importantly october thirtieth thirty first. October thirty thirty thirty first october. Thirtieth is the double header at martinsville for the truck series and the xfinity series nascar truck series united rentals two hundred and the minutes series dead on tools to fifty. Those races will be the deciding the deciders to see who goes to the championship. four in phoenix. That extra women. it's tight and it's tight. Oh yeah well. that's a good kid. I mean we had him on the show. Yeah obviously signed on for another year at kvm kbm gets in the fifty four which is really owned by kbm used And bush yeah and he goes out and wins. He goes out and wins. Overcomes a pit penalty to take two tires on the final pitch to be honest with the surprise that with the success that he had in truck this year that he didn't xfinity but maybe he's he's actually probably being smart about this. Well here's the thing he's in terms of just in life. He is a young kid still he's gonna. He's got a year in cup already and he goes back to trucks because he wants to win and now he's now he's he's head to go back to steps and now is building himself back up in the toyota camp and i can only imagine that he's he's a smart kid he's planning two or three steps ahead of hey. I can climb the ladder with toyota much more than i could. With ford or chevrolet. So i think that's that's what he's doing. I mean Harrison burton used toyota. Now he's jumping over to the wood brothers ford and and hopefully it was super interesting. Yes yet it was going to let him jump but they have such limited. They have a limited stable of cup. Gars like you're going to need toyota to have a couple extra teams which which days building. But i mean kurt busch. Who is who is a veteran. Hasn't got many more years left. I wouldn't be surprised. I mean uc. Who's in that toyota camp right. Now tie gibbs is who wanted to be an xfinity series for very long. He's got the talent to jump up. Say into one of those twenty three eleven cars. Yeah but at some point he's going to be in a car. that's what i mean. Twenty three eleven gibbs toyota. Whatever that might be He's he's going to be in one of those cars. I think. I think nemechek is probably i mean he with his talent is going to jump into one of those twenty three eleven cars. Because i can't imagine that team going for one car to two cars and then in. I can't see them not expanding especially with the next gen car and what's going to be going on there so Yeah we'll see it's eh we're gonna talk more about martinsville in our common with closer so but we do have another big race dominion dominion this weekend. It's their final advance auto parts weekly racing series event of the year october. Twenty third They're going to have late models and modified there so if you're gonna crowned champion the if you are not doing anything and even if you are changing plans go up to dominion. I was up there a few week weekends ago for the legends cars first class facility. Classes de Do day when they were all over your place to ours to run thirty five laps. And then and then langley's got their Day of destruction starting at one pm on october. Twenty third. so we're leaning up to next week's sean. Blue memorial on. October thirty th october thirtieth so going on in the state of virginia kinda give big thumbs up to virginia motorsports park they finished their season. Air quotes because you never know with drag racing. They'd do all kinds of stuff. Oh man they they go year round testing and all the stuff but Tyler across and the crew out there had a great weekend one of the hardest working individuals i've ever tire life.

"That's the one we picked now. I wanted to I wanted to put that on as we after. We said keep racing. Virginia and then hit it with the lease usually they bring in the music a little early and then they they as i. I like the keep race because it's such a it's such a concrete hits keep racing virginia own book. I'll start. I'll do the s- had some some great great stories from from peyton sellers to and and we're going to have some some great guests on here in the near future as well can't wait. We've got some surprises. No surprises for you. we're not. We're not going to release that at this present time. No no. we're not nowhere now. Maybe we can get them booked and then give you some time to give us some questions on social social and maybe we'll come up with I know i can give some tickets away to redeem our speedway on. Give me some of the langley. I'm sure kathy boston. Maybe we can give some stuff way. Love it And in the process of trying to promote all this. But we can't thank you enough the the the listener really for putting up with us and listen to our gibberish. We're going to try to do a better job at giving you the inside information on these drivers that we have on. Sometimes we think we just stay around the the surface and we never get an dive. Deep ruined avdic dive deep. You're gonna find out what size socks this guy wears. What size underwear. But i don't want an hour. I wanna know what day their undergarments are but You know More than anything. We need to follow social media at racing. Virginia facebook twitter instagram. We also got our youtube channel. That up a little bit. Show up there. You're gonna cut it up and put stuff up there But there's a lot of good things coming out of out of this new the new racy. Virginia's we want to call it and again it. It all comes down to you the listener and the fan more importantly we need to make sure we've already lost southside speedway. That's never coming back. That is a that is a definite. Never coming back and we we do not need to lose anymore. Racetracks in the state of virginia we are blessed with a plethora. I love that word with with a ton of different type of racing. And i'll be honest with you racing virginia. We have the most iconic race tracks in the in the country and and we have the most different types of racing man who has to nascar tracks to if you wanna do bristol neck on the other side. I was just. We were just a few months ago. They are on there on the tennessee side But then we have to nascar attracts with each have two dates we have a vp that man. They're killing it but they re they're doing a great job. If you see all the stuff that tyler's posted on social like gotta do anywhere know. He posted the man of stuff that he he's just all over the place all the time and they. They're producing some great stuff over virginia motorsports park and we need to have him back on. Because i want to talk about his trip to dubai but i also want to talk to him. I i told you this. In in person i didn't realize that drag racing was so hard. Yeah properly tracking easy. No it's it's not that he has given me a way to look in and see this because he does it. I'm a weather temperature. I mean it's crazy But you know there's a lot of tracks we have. Asphalt we have dirt we have go-carts. We have one of the best road courses. Why why we can't get nascar at. Why can't we get nascar. Race at vr as nascar revolves schedule I think it has to be a place that nascar will look to put one of. Its its top three series. At i think first of all Having the two established ovals here in. Virginia you know not no other. No other state has two tracks with two separate race weekends and then adding a third. I would hope that you wouldn't have to sacrifice races at martinsville richmond but that that might be something that they would consider the think about but if they could get one of nascar's or all three nascar series at vr. it would be one hell show. Oh hell yeah they got a great crate facilities and one you know one also point out you know south boston. Their sister track pocono. I that surprised me in that to to race weekend. Two races for nascar on a saturday and sunday. The amount of campers that were there was a record how it was a record because of how many people came to the races in the nineties and early two thousands but they said it was record and a place look packed and it was a it was and they put on a couple of great shows too because the the folks from south boston went work. Yeah yeah song they gave you little inside scoop up and pocono cool stuff. Folks racing is back okay and it's because of you the fan but don't don't sleep on the short tracks okay. You need to make sure that you visit them. We do not. And i'm repeat this. We do not need to lose another racetrack here in the state of virginia. So make sure that that you support your local race track A great race. This weekend obviously south boston speedway with the thunder road harley davidson Two hundred late model event That's if you haven't been a south. Boston go check it out. Ok more than anything again. Thank you for listening to us as always we want to remind you.

"Racing day so so there's a lot of similarities. There how we were brought up and how he started racing for and our role and bra rummages degree I don't know if you guys know or not. But he's just a great human being obviously a great but but it'd be practice. Well it seems to me Looking at the crew chiefs that sit on top the boxes they come from all different kinds of Of avenues to get to to where they are the kerchiefs that have been drivers but still are engineers. They seem to i. I'm not gonna say have an edge but to me. They have an edge. Because you know exactly what that kind of in your head what that guy is warning. I think there's definitely You can relate right. We know. I know what i would want. It probably driving car. I would lose on entry or exit or needed more terms or center I need you to try to famous case persico but you try to understand the differences between what you want and what that guy walked And you create a notebook shows. It's really not much different. Guide that didn't raise And experience on creating no close But i think the advantage comes from just being adding that relatable time behind the wheel and understanding the deer. Maybe you want versus. What the guy you're working with when brookville you know that's the biggest marks a new chapter it s. Hr rally herbs taken over the number ninety eight monster energy coming on a sponsor excited. Yeah now another another opportunity for us to try and help young man that she dreams of making it to the cup. Here's you know. Obviously we've been able to do that or it's cold and now chase briscoe. And that's the goal at the ultimate goal you know there's obviously short term goals or that The dole relying on the obscenity garage. That we can build is gonna rain anybody out there rally in victory lane you very intense on top of the box. What's richard boswell like away from the race track not quite intense but i got four kids in a wonderful life each me grounded and You gotta. dan loves racing. That called me after every. Open what i did wrong. It's every second generation driver on no has their dad in their ear. Almost always yeah. Nah i'm thankful for that. You know there's there's just the constant drive for him to wanna see me do better and that's something that i'm very thankful for and how much as i want to bring that i also know that There's a lot of people wish your dad are still around to give that. So i'm i'm thankful for that. You know we need to have your dad on i. You know there's a lot of stories right there. Yeah the other side of the. It's probably like four or five shows at least talk about trickery. We're going to have to get him on their the show here shorter by the way Sad moment this week or this weekend was announced southside speedway closing down after sixty years of racing. Release what you thoughts people like my dad. Nine thousand nine hundred sixty. I think right you know has been around longer than me and many of my colleagues and so many other people that that they're racing late models these days. And anytime you say short-track like that or myrtle beach even go away. It's just a. It's like a death in the family you know. It's it's something that you wish would happen. And you wish we want in the situation. We're in economic fan going. And you wish you could go back to the nineteen sixties and seventies and and get that and again. We can't thank you enough for taking the time to visit with us. Richard and welcome to the go ahead. Okay i ran has over here yelling. No no one more question. I want to know you. You obviously cut your teeth. The state of virginia but You've also crew chieftain raced here of for years. How special is the state of virginia to you personally in your career. You know between there and maryland it places. I still call home though. I don't know that. When i'm done this i wouldn't end up back in maryland To live but you know. That's i spent as much of my childhood and the state of virginia maryland. I thank you testing on cried. As it old dominion with my dad or go to the racetrack on saturday and breathing numerous Little dirt nap all tracked and the state of virginia right there. Well that's where i got. My first ever are win. And got my. I relate morrow in and old dominion so. There are a lot of i in virginia. You know it's. It's really about as close to home as you can get thankful for everything that i was able to accomplish everything that i was able to do to get where i am too. And that's why we adopted you into the racing virginia family. He knew you hadn't an affinity for our state exactly voters we go there. We go thank you again for taking the time to visit with us. Man really is appreciated. Because we know how busy you are. People think that the off season is slow. It's probably a lot busier than come racing season this week. I'm ready to get back raving. I've never been busy hour or We're pretty busy for sure with a different driver and everything. On next year's things are changing and and ready to get back to the track. Well let's cross our fingers at the covid stuff goes away and we can. We can start getting in the race fans out to the race tracks and and get that excitement back underway but again thank you for taking the time to visit with us and man continued success. Thank you got so much yeah. He's smart. He's engineering to realize he. He was racing okay and going to school down in carolina and were virginia motorsports thinking about like. How do you sleep. How did he sleep. When you're when you're young. You can do that. Yeah yeah obviously ma. But he had a dream he no. He knew where we wanted to go. That correlation with rodney children's and him. I mean we didn't. He said that he raced go. Karts experienced he was the nineteen ninety. Eight world cardi champion legit town. Yeah legit at that time. He was racing rodney. Children's who if you know the history behind rodney children's you know he was unbeatable in go karts. Yep i've heard historic before you and it's kind of weird. They kind of took the same paths to the same people and and now work for the same organization. I think we'll find richard and cup here off like fulltime. Yeah time yeah. Before you know i would imagine that as hr is probably gonna promote him at some point because they got they got a lot going on and they got a lot going on greet.

"Urine. Do khaki sweater open. We had one hope spot and he picked me. That's how i got i call. Didn't he said he's gonna invite me has another idea for the spring. Yeah well yeah. So that was. That was literally. I was the worst Golfer there where you got that hanger were talking about. That was result of washing away. The bad golf afterwards. Put it that way. We don't want to talk about do we. Let's say as we spoke earlier. We have a great guests for you. Everybody's gonna say. I know on social media. He's from maryland but his family is well known in the state of virginia. So we're going to adopt him here on the racing. Virginia podcast course. He is a former late model stock car driver. He was the crew chief for chase briscoe. The last two years and he will be the crew chief for the the riley. Herbst gotta right you got it right herbs and with with a great sponsor monster energy coming here he is richard boswell hating richard for having me and i'm doing good first of all. Thank you for taking some time. I know we've been playing tag email tag with heather your european person. You are extremely busy. Yes so we are. We are blessed to have you on on the show. So thank you for taking the time out to visit with us. My pleasure what you gotta do for check rate even alive. Exactly what we're trying to do here. You know. I know. I know your dad very well dickie boswell and he was. He was one of a kind for sure. What was it like. Growing up. The son of dickie boswell iraq it was it was entertaining or sure it was. It was awesome. He's a he's a A picture or especially short track world and it had a lot of accomplishments and receive a lot of awards for his contributions to the poor So that's obviously humbling for our family but other than that he's just for thisiis. Great dad a great friend and a great on person to be around all the time. Oh he was always fun to interview earlier You cut your teeth. Obviously at you know at a very young age. I know there's photos floating around their view at three years old. Go in and pick up some tools to help your helping your dad's work on the car. Yeah it's really all. I've ever known rahm molly. There was a big part of my dad's or anything and as i got older. She's the or my racing. He's ordered my racing and it was really just a matter of not not lend. We were going racing but how and how we were going to get the funding to do it and we're gonna do it. It was just a matter at a local level. You're driving career actually was very successful you. You're you're really good in la model and you did extremely well in the hooters. Pro cup talk about going from three years. Old to into la ma knob. Obviously it starts with go cards and urban before that just going to the racetrack with my dad. And he's gotta have it liar and a local sport and that's all that so doesn't go cards and that went well traveled to laundry regime. And you know. I'm i got hurt bad our race when i was probably four hundred fifty and my parents decided that was another that when you to looking for the next level and now late models and we never really had the funding to do it properly definitely when i moved down to go to college charlotte Got an opportunity to to meet some folks that universal sports driving late model for them and obviously the the equipment was substantially better. And we were able to win some races and and run well Which was obviously a dream of mine and a lot of on travel south east just discreet in anywhere and everywhere we could. Yeah i mean that's that's ultimately will why i am where i am today You know would love to entertain racing but just from sponsorship standpoint. Those things didn't didn't always work out it time for me to use my engineering degree included us. What was that conversation like when you. How do you make your way to junior motorsports. Did you want it that badly that you just showed up at the front door one day. Or how did that that kind of manifest itself. Yeah just the situation workout on break. Mark mcfarland is good. Friend of mine I think you guys know that guy and I was helping him on a series group are night and just happened to meet those guys g. murders or inland. They decided to go full time. broke up racing with mark. And i think they were immune to go do. Some busch races relate modern and somehow between far on jefferson. Naya's guys that were there at the time. My name was brought up as the bog located. I'd been helping us at night and got the opportunity. How do you go from driving. And obviously you're going to school to to get an engineering degree. But how do you have you make the decision to go from driving too. I wanna be a crew chief. And how much of. That was working at junior motorsports and getting some experience. It in the shop as well all of it you know and dale kelly and all those guys that you all the credit just for the fact that at our ads knock cross racing late models and. I don't think i'm an engineer. Junior sports and i don't get the chinese walker. Jean so so yeah. Discussions were tough. you know realizing that None of the reasons side of things early wasn't gonna work out. But i think joe can you understand it you know. There's there's only so many dollars in a budget can be without sponsorship And you just can't do that. So i'd knocked the doors down. Several companies trying to trying to find funding and it just didn't work out so at that point he kinda gotta realize you're not gonna you're not gonna make a living and support a a wife and a family Although twenty six or thirty grand a year eight late models. You're driving for virginia motorsports inlay models but there was one certain race where they needed to driver. And they called upon you back in two thousand and nine in memphis. Tell us about that experience. Yeah it was It was an awesome experience. It was a lot of on those. No one and only bush kerry artist time and You know mandela talked in the off season and i. It might have even been mid season that year. I just kind of explained my desire to to jimmy progressing and that she wasn't sold a part time car or may not fulltime car. I can't recall That that that she had them sold. And dale.

"Many. I think man you look that crash in darn near every safety elements that they've come up with in the last twenty years amen to play you know. They hadn't necker strength the every bar every piece of the safer barrier. I mean it all had to be there. The really incredible lady came through that that That crass with no further injuries than ready. We're thankful for you. This go on us and giving us knowledge. I'm thankful you guys in so great randi anytime accent man. I'm gonna tell you what it is fun to hear history. Yeah from someone that has covered the sport for so many years so many years. I think it was pretty neat. Needed like you could. You could find some parallels with what happened in this year's championship season with even what what happened back in nineteen seventy-two history. Repeats itself. Absolutely friendsgiving yell on dinner after this. Is this how this works the temperature. He'll be so let everybody know david. I have a contest. We have to take our temperature before when we come into the office. And i normally i normally win. I'd say about sixty five percent of the time or so. So von lost the temperature bed. He had the highest temperature by point. One point one. I let my point one. It doesn't matter. Lost all right across the street point attempt on the track. You lose point one. You still lost by point one. Well we're gonna roll on with our friends. Giving edition of the race in virginia podcast and to do that. We need to bring on our next guest. He is the vice president of virginia motorsports park and the pdr a series. He is mr tyler cross. No hedo tyler. About our was up man brandon. Things i have a man crush acid fan boy. He's in the cross. No fan boy admires your work. Sir we talk about you every week. Tyler how scary for the fact of of that station level over there. I've talked to brandon about this and some other folks i. I really never understood the amount of work that goes in and prepare a drag strip and watching your social media channel and the mp's there's there's so much work that goes into preparing the track and it comes down to humidity temperature all kinds of other stuff. Yeah some i got out right now. Getting ready for For our season finale weekend we've got a big money record now and then just a stable of the schedule for eight years now and That goes out our our twenty twenty season. Three thousand windbreaker is If weather allow we start on. We're starting on tuesday and we are even friday. So it's definitely a a lotta work that many people do not know anything about. We've talked to a couple times about the season leading up to the season. Kinda in not long explanation. But kinda give us an idea of how twenty twenty ended up for vm. Peeing in your staff. Of course it was trying One thing that we kind of agree on whenever everything shut down and then all of a sudden never soft open. And then you can you know. They started laying a little bits and a little bit here and there The one thing that we we all agreed on here. Let's not work more than a marked out Just because you don't know you don't know when the gonna come. Oh hey nice dry. But you're part the So we just decided look with work on a four week span that way. We don't spend the budget on something and three months out. Oh and then you get the phone call. That had never can happen That wasn't very very hard. Deal for for us June because you you never felt like you were like i'm gonna. I'm gonna take a day all. It never felt good about leaving the racetrack. At least i it 'cause i always felt like there's a bunch of stuff needs to be done because we only got two week before the bigger minimum of ours but But at the end of the season. And i mean i have to say. I can't be any happier with everything that was thrown at us as the business of the motorsport entity as anything that falls under the banner. Virginia motorsports park There are so many curve balls that were thrown. Not only us but everybody in motorsports and for us as a facility in our area virginia for for everybody that was able to open this year I really just feel like it. Any anything at this point is what was the biggest thing that you learned out of all of this that that even when we get back to normal that you all can apply to To a normal year We streamline a lot of processes that were in common terms that were payroll heavy that we decided i look were. We're limiting income this year. Due to all these researching we know limited expense. And i learned a whole lot of us. Are we doing that before. Like we didn't slow down production at all and we just lowered expensive by twenty percent. Okay why in the world were not doing that before. Really opened my eyes to kinda creating backup systems for things That way something happened. Okay you never even have to stop You've got another option One thing that we did that really was a kind of a hard deal for people to understand but others have jumped onto it and it's been a really big deal. The paperless time slip program That we do on our cell phones now and every run that recorded demo extract goes into this database. Then you can search your car number unique to every card that races with it and all of sudden your last ken runs will pop up on. Your phone will bring in the dragster wrote that you always see the guy stays in. Lanes has fourteen thousand times flip stuffed in his pocket and he's trying to figure out what was last run or wanted are running one. Did i run laughing. Conditions and on. And it's a mess and that's been really a positive for a lot of the younger crowd is really liked it due to the. There's so many times where you're just you run out of paper at the time. What brenner and to pair. Don't get printed because of your paper. Well okay now you just put her out and search your number instead of while i gotta go all the way to the tower. Write it down. Give it to all of stuff and now that just kind of eliminated that question mark On some events we don't even open. We run events now solely on the the apple iphone and i just expanse from a business standpoint and takes an employee that instead of sitting in a building for twelve fourteen hours a day We can put them doing being sweet host Helping somewhere else where they're more more adapt to the business and actually use that employees to the.

"Understand saving money and advancing in you. Because it's not gonna be on air jacks or anything. No you're still going to have that guy. Come across the you know to the other side with the jack and pump that thing. But here's the thing about the about the purest pierce from every every generation and in in my opinion the best racing that ever happened was in the mid nineties. And that's just my opinion but you can't stay with technology technology advances and you have to advance into the next generation so of you've got a sequential gearbox with six gears instead of four they did the digital dash a few years ago to to get away from the analog dashes and cup series and now they're advancing even more with the single log and that's going to Apparently it's not gonna cut down picked up time too much. But you're you're not going to see you're not going to see fines for missing one lug nut i did. I did see a video. And i did hear the car could deep deep rumble. So that's going to be cool. And i will say well. Let's change gears a little bit here. Because i want to before we get too long winded. I wanna talk about the post. You did yeah. I was going to try to segue into it but It's a hard segue. So let's not just i i posted i was i was sitting there and you know what did they to just gauge. Not know how the post was gonna do. I just simply posted a text post. What's your favorite track in virginia. And why i posted on twitter posted on facebook. And you guys blow up you ha- you all have opinions about what your favorite tracks are in the state of virginia and to no one's surprise we talk about it all the time on here with the vast array of different Different tastes different genres and and different types of facilities that we have in this in this state and it was a mixed bag of favorite traction. I i wanna read some some of the responses daviel when they first response on facebook from preston hutchins in some of these people might be some some folks that you might know Virginia motor speedway started going with my dad when they opened and have raced there with four generations of my family and vote. Yes absolutely unique story. And that's what short track racing is all about to be honest with you. Yep yep nikko odell. Vms one of the nicest and safest dirt tracks around randy hundred to go and watch race at martinsville. Just you know you had a couple of people that raced at. Vms you get a race fan. That goes to martinsville you south boston. You got white the motormeile and the all. Yeah dominion speedway. Being ron fox at langley speedway been going there for thirty four years. I love that place. Yeah demanding got some Some love the drag strips. Got me on on twitter. As soon as i posted are more tyler behind the scenes virginia motorsports park race vh emp. We might be by. This is from the risk of emp account ever january we we might be biased but Three hundred plus miles per hour. Niger breathing top fuel. Dragsters are only seen here in the state of virginia. That's a good reason to go to impeach here. I will say this when we put our special events scheduled together. One of the dates was june fifth. And i went into my the my bosses and bill clark sawyer and i said we do not want to do a race on that weekend and they went wi- i said because that's nhra weekend at p. And what did they say we're going to change. And that's what's so good about here racing. Virginia's what we're trying to collaborate thing we moved to may fifteenth yup instead. And that's what's so cool to piggyback on that if you've never been to. Nhra anywhere one. Virginia or vip is just phenomenal place to go watch a race you want to go to. Nhra a thing that you have to experience at least once and if you experience it once you're gonna wanna do it again. I still and it's been twenty plus years maybe my first time at nhra events and it was. And i. i remember it like it was yesterday. It's an experience in. it is super. I mean it's such an experience. I mean and those guys the the drivers competitors mandate or so accommodating and and and i mean to have someone like a john force yup come to a little radio show that i had back then i was doing it live for john force to say yes outcome and be on. Your show is who thought. Yeah but that's the thing you wouldn't think john is drag race is is the top of the top of the drag racing world been around forever done literally everything drag racing but that is oh my gosh. Yes with the peak auto have not seen now on. I'm going to have to go. Look at john forces tiktok because that's barely thank. Well let's go over and they're trying to teach him one of the dances. I've seen john force view a lot of things. I don't think i've seen john forrest. Dance was hilarious. Hey you know we could we. Could we could sit here and talk about raising and stuff all day long but we we need to get this show rolling so all right. Let's go to the phone lines and let's talk to our first guest. Let's do it as promised in the open we got. We have our youngest driver to date our youngest and he is twelve years old. He's in a he's a he's a racer he races. I think junior champ card is what he was racing now and he is an aspiring announcer. We're gonna we're gonna we're gonna delvin look brandon's faces like what this this cat i'm telling you what For being twelve years old. "Race in Virginia. Yes, absolutely. I mean I love being part of it. That's the thing. Like I will get drivers that will kind of be like well, I don't give enough to attract and I'm like man. It's easy like. Me if you guys know we're not mind readers and and we I'd love to promote every single person I racetrack but I'm not a mind-reader and I don't always know what's going on, you know, and it's going to take a minute to talk to me, you know, tell me what's going on. I mean and I have no I have no background in this other than I married a man that races and we don't have any money to put it out. Like I did all of this helps L train in Photoshop sell trained in in photography. So I'll turn the yard. So it's totally doable social media so easy to do it. I have I have a broadcasting degree. I had to learn all of this stuff on my own. Luckily a lot of that skill-set, you know transferred over but I didn't know anything from anything else. Fly by the seat of your pants and see what works eventually. Yeah. Well it's taking out and there's so many resources to go to so yeah there are we had Sergio Pena. He's awesome. He was he was such a cool interview and I think the white oak Speedway there has been a challenge put out. So just stay stay tuned for a racing a Rachel. I'm going to see this here. And and maybe this will help like convinced this racer that he should come out to our tract. I got talking with Peyton sellers this weekend about the poster that I had done for my personal wall off and I made a joke about really poster how as far as an adult and he was like man, it looks like you guys have fun. In fact that was like paint rollers you get your butt out to start off on the weekend you already and let's get you in a go-kart. Can you imagine can you imagine Peyton sellers at the back to your go kart track? That would be amazing if we talked about larger-than-life like building these people out there. It's weird things like that like to help the the Mystique power driver a painkiller showing up to someone's backyard wage. Yeah, it would be it would be awesome to the universe. It's one big family. That's what we try to preach it race in Virginia is we are one big family. We have a the the amount of great drivers. We have the amount of money, no tracks the amount of the diversity we have that's that's what makes Virginia and racing Virginia. So incredible and that's with this actually show is important because we want to make sure that all the the the track owners and promoters and the marketing people are working together so we can all right. So we I mean, there's no sense in us, you know, trying to book big events against each other especially if you're within a couple hours. It's kind of stupid, right, you know, and because we all share fans, I don't care. They're you know, we all share fans. I know I know cuz I see them and I see what they're posting on social media. So absolutely, you know, I can't wait birth. To to work on this and this marketing 101 because I think a lot of drivers needed they don't they wonder why they get a sponsor and the guy won't come back the next year. You know and the the days of trapping logo on a race car and calling it good, you know, and there's so many fun ways to do it. In fact, is it Ryan Berg just picked up a pickoff? Yeah, It was so organically came about and he's on Tik-Tok. I mean obviously like Thursday or check back with it for fun way to get to know the driver's yeah and and get to know their personalities and you know, we just we need more of that. We need more money. It's amazing what what I've noticed the videos that do the best for us our trailer towards shopped or what will he's working on. It's just stuck to our FAQ can't really see what they want to feel invested in the back story. The extra stuff, you know, and you're exactly right. I've I've said all along that drivers need to show their fans how much work they put into it. And if you're not willing to put it on social media. That means you're not doing anything. Yep. Just letting you come in to the racetrack and going racing. That's it. And it goes back to the the old Ken Squad saying my broadcasting hero growing up, men doing uncommon dates. So showcasing all of that hard work and home and packaged in a person that you can relate to and feels like you would looks like you that's all you need. Yeah, it takes all kinds like, you know the artists series of struggled with our call over this year, you know, we're in a transition period and coal-bed in it. You know, we got some families back markers and the people, you know, what backmarker that broke down on the way to the track and still finding ways to get on track. You know what maybe he's not as fast but he is deserving to like he's hoping we need everybody and a lot of those back markers stories are amazing Stories, you know, like waiting Peterson is 6-7 tours of Vietnam. I mean just I mean James help most definitely one of my heroes whenever we had attracted have to come up give me a hug and kiss. I honestly don't think I remember who I was from history, but he was like the perfect. Always need to feel like the most important person is talking to you and then you couldn't help but smile when you saw those guys. I always made the racetrack fun for me to be at. You know, I just I feel like there's so many stories throughout the field. It's not just the guys winning races every it's it's the guy that I could ever want to raise my God. He's putting in a ton of work and this is everything he's ever wanted is to be the race track on Saturday night, you know, they're important to yes, we if you don't have those guys from June 10th on back you don't you don't have you don't have a race? I'm sorry. So so I mean you are absolutely correct ma'am. We can't thank you enough for kind of designated hitter for this morning coming on, but we wanted to make sure that if I knew that that the the big one didn't get canceled. It just got moved to October 31st, so 5:00 is going to be with 15 cars locked in. I mean go to the Dominion Facebook page to see the list of blocked and we're going to do a qualifying race for the rest of them to get in. It should be a great choice. I'm 10,000 to win should be a great race, you know dress up. It's going to be super fun. Again. Thank you song by the way. She has a great following don't Tick Tock. Oh, yeah. Gotta I gotta follow. Thanks so much for being with us. Thank you guys. Great woman. Absolutely. She's got a this has been of high energy show. It seems like the shows are getting this way all the time. Just keep the energy. I didn't even have much small fee this morning speaking of energy in 8 R A. Let's let's give it Camping World Outdoor and RV NHRA Nationals. Yep, Virginia Motorsports Park coming back, June 4th through the 6th folks and the NHRA put out their schedule and off. I love that. It's highlighting. I did that. I know you did I click control be yeah..

"Need a good he held what third? Yeah. Yeah and our our buddy Matt dibenedetto of driving for the Wood Brothers had himself a bad weekend finished 17th yesterday and is now only nine point points above the cut line. So he's going to have a really good first and second stage at Daytona and who knows you can wreak out before then. You know what MattyB usually does. Well, yeah, he's good. He's good at Daytona really good at Daytona that car is shown that it's good at Daytona. So I I expect the here's what I think Matt's going to make it. I think Jimmy's going to make it William, Byron, Georgia. Out okay a lot of great race in this past weekend Langley had twin events for the late models which Peyton sellers one. Both of them did a nice little not there at the end of night Dominion had twin modified races as the main attraction and that the hamlets Chris and Jimmy picked up the winds Zach Lightfoot, one of the original team racing Virginia drivers. He won both of the Virginia Racers, which is the is a limited late model race home. And then of course from all indications other than two or three rain delays the Franklin County cars Tour event from all indications went very well had a great month late model stock car race Bubba Pollard won the super late model portion of it, which not not unusual for Bubba. Yeah, but you know for the late model stock portion of birth Mike Mooney almost one almost not quite but almost and Friar one, right? Yeah, Jerry fryer fryer. So with that said great race wage and greeted them great to see that event at Franklin County to yeah, and I don't think they tore up a whole lot of stuff at Franklin County. Which bodes well for Langley's cars to arrange this coming weekend. Yes, sir. So and I think there was some concern Franklin County is a very fast 22-degree banking so it's very fast and you know, it looks like all applications. They are going to have a problem getting car account at Langley this weekend. I should be really good. So we got a good show we roll into it. You know, let's go. Let's go to the song hotline. Hey, we're going to talk to the current owner of the Virginia Motorsports Park bought it in October of 2018. He is also a two-time. Two times Switzer Dynamics Pro nitrous Champion. He is Mr. Tommy Franklin. How you doing? Tommy doing good Dave? How are you? Good man. Thank you for taking some time out of your busy schedule to visit with us. Oh not a problem at all.
