Correspondent Linda Kenyon has the story. Speaker Nancy Pelosi remains cautious about impeachment saying it is more important to conduct careful investigation and build an airtight case for impeachment rather than to charge headlong into impeachment proceedings house majority whip James Clyburn beliefs. That's. True. Yes, exactly. What I feel. I think we've already begun we've got all of these committees doing their work. We haven't hearings. We've already won two court cases and there other cases they'll still to be determined. On CNN state of the union. Clyburn, says Democrats must be careful to build a case that sticks. What NASA below is trying to do and the rest of us in house of representatives is to a process by which we can they physically move on this issue, West Virginia Democrat. Joe manchin. Tell CBS space the nation. He does not believe impeachment is the right way to go. You've got a little over seventeen months to the next election. If you want to go through an impeachment we get very little done there. Anyway, we're get nothing done if you go into that next all, there's not one Republican in the Senate that would vote for impeachment, so why waste your time you have an election coming up Pinon there and make your choice, saying impeachment while lightly in the house is equally likely to hit a brick wall in the Senate house intelligence committee chair. Adam Schiff tells ABC's this week he agrees for now. We'll look, I think we're going to do what's right for the country and at this point, the speaker has not reached the conclusion, and I haven't either that it's best for the country to put us through an appeasement preceding that we know is destined for failure in the Senate. Now that calculus may change if the president continues to stonewall if the president continues to demonstrate his unfitness for office. But what if it's a close call a we have an important legislative agenda to try to advance a we have a portent oversight work. We can do outside the context of impeachment. Louisiana, Republican Senator Joe Kennedy on CBS's Face. The nation says impeachment just won't fly. And here's why impeachment polls right up there with skimmed milk among the American people, and Kennedy offer some advice for the Democrats, if you want to do it go hard or go home. You know, if you want to do it go to Amazon online boss, spine, and do it, Linda Kenyon, Washington. It's twenty one. Well, the House Democratic caucus fragmented on that issue of impeachment and jimbohannon guest has an interesting perspective on the personality of President Trump. President Trump is considered rather Iran even beyond spontaneous. Some might say he's just crazy. Well, maybe others would say he's undisciplined, maybe, and there is another theory about what's at work here. And it is put forward by our guest, David Johnson, the CEO and founder of strategic vision. PR dot com, which is a media relations and public relations firm and your theory, I guess goes back to another president, Richard Nixon. It does Richard Nixon pursued in foreign policy, what he called his madman theory. He wanted his foreign adversaries to think he was so crazy, and he was so he might do anything you might use nuclear weapon so that they would come to the negotiation negotiating table and make some concessions. It's how he ended the Vietnam war, how he was able to open relations with China, and also pursued detente with the Soviet Union in Donald Trump. I think now is applying that man. Man theory. In policy when he goes, angel Mirko, or Kim Jong UN. I think he's also applying it to domestic policy as well. He wants to keep people off balance, because there's a method to mid, and he feels that people do think he's Radic more likely make concessions to them. Dow Iowa Republican Senator Chuck Grassley issued a statement that included this trade policy and border security are separate issues. This is a misuse of presidential tariff authority and countered to congressional intent. What would you respond to Senator Grassley, I would disagree? It's not a misuse the president's trying to preserve protect in defending the constitution and the American borders. And he knows the only way to get Mexico crop rate in our border with Mexico is to go after their economy through tariffs and what we're seeing is that it's working and Mexico's. Oriented panic. They're sending their foreign minister to Washington to try to work out a deal. The president of Mexico has written a letter to the president promising concessions. So, I think Senator Grassley while he wants to stick his Kobi affected is panicking, when there's no reason to panic. Did Donald Trump do this kind of thing when he was running his real estate empire? He did. He was well known for being very Radic. He would walk out on deals that everyone was finished to municipalities unions to make concessions and it worked for him in New York. And he's applying that now to the White House, what it is that has still many people so shocked is they're not used to a president dealing this. Donald Trump is applied his New York tactics to the White House in terms of the effectiveness of, of all of this, you approve generally of what the president's doing, but I'm wondering if you had his ear if you would offer some maybe refinement some things he might do more of or less of. I would cut down on some of the tweets and rather use the bully pulpit and address the American. Nation with prime time TV addresses. He's very successful when he gives a speech as we see with a spike, which is poll numbers, their state of the union. More address America from the oval laws. This discussing what he's doing making his announcement that way. Rather than on Twitter, aside from the tactic being used here. Your, your thoughts about the, the president's trade policy using trade as leverage in general. I think it's perfectly correct. He promised American people number one. He would level the playing field with four. That's what he's doing with the tariffs. The more importantly, he said he would secure our borders, and with Mexico with a Democratic Congress unwilling to help him do, so he has no other alternative than to go after Mexico apply tariffs until Mexico will do what they should have been doing for decades and enforcing laws on their side of the border. But another part of me has to concede if you find a soulmate and this is your option for a while, while you do what you need to do to maintain the relationship. So Jaso Turner says its deflated his visceral inclination to snark. Good. Jason. I'm glad to hear that Laura Marquez. Says my two plus years away from my husband then boyfriend when he's he was deployed was hard. But we didn't rely on technology exclusively letters and surprise gifts are romantic also lack of physical intimacy forced us to become closer emotionally. So on this note of deployments, leading to long term long distance relationship. Let's go to Adrian who's calling from Virginia Beach, Virginia. Adrian, you're on the air. Hi, thanks for taking my call. Great to have you. So, so you're, you're connected to remember the military. Well, I am actually active duty myself, and I'm a embedded and then I'll help provider with a regular with the deployment with a unit that deploys regularly. And so I just wanted to comment that with the sailors that I serve and myself technology is certainly something that we rely on to stay in stay connected with our spouses, or children are significant others and our family back home, and it is something that has certainly come a significantly long way over the past decades that has been immensely helpful to us. But at the same time because it's so easily accessible now. It's it's no longer, just as some of your callers, and commenters and said, you get the good news. But you also get the bad. And so instead of it being kind of like it was back in previous, conflicts and say, we'll just use stereotypical Vietnam, where you'd get a letter once a month or such as that would give you an update on how things are going so well, and keep you motivated and looking forward to coming home. You're, you're hearing about the broken dishwasher. And you're you may even be asked to, you know, get a hold of the provider yourself, the, the mechanic mountain fix it because maybe your spouse doesn't know who to call or doesn't feel comfortable doesn't have the time and you're half a world away, but you're being asked to fill this role that really you're not present for, and it adds this, it can add, this additional layer of stress to already deployed servicemember, and that's kind of what I'm there for. But at the same time I just feel like it's kind of technology become this really two sided. Coin where it's really great. And it allows us to stay connected back home. But it allows us to stay connected to the day to day struggles back home as well. That we, although we may feel that we need to be involved with, we need to help with we really can't because there's not much you can do when you're thousands of miles away on deployment Adrian, thank you so much for your call. Joe pinsker. What, what are you hearing? What Adrian saying? Yeah. I think my my what's occurring to me. Now is just that. Yes, it's true. That technology is bringing in both the good and the bad. But what I would argue is that relationships have a mix of good and bad, and, and working through some of the harder. More difficult stuff is actually how you build intimacy. "While we're watching the clock here. Daniel let's go to David Virginia Beach Virginia. Hi, david. Go ahead. Good evening, gentlemen. Is there an angle it seems to me that the confiscating wages from just by the fact that we did up in the morning. Have the incentive to go trying to earn a wage the food and because on backs and and carry on a license? There's a thing called the thirteenth amendment. I don't see how they get away with it. I can see the the use tax. I buy down a daft, but my car and coal money out for for vaguely cares. And in maintenance and that, but I don't see how they get away with taking money from our paychecks. Well, well, the the answer is you put your you. Put your finger on the economic problem with the income tax the income tax taxes, the engine of economic growth, which is which is in common productivity, and and and and economic activity. You can't have sustained economic growth when you're taxing the engine that creates that growth. So from an economic standpoint, it's flawed policy to be taxing income. It's flawed policy to be taxing production. You should be taxing consumption instead. And that's why I much in favor of a national retail sales tax over an income tax. The fact of the matter is the founding fathers never intended the government to be funded. Through an income tax. They intended the government to be funded through excise taxes, which are retail sales tax is an excise tax. And that's how they intended to do it for a lot of reasons. Chiefly they never wanted the federal government to have its hands directly in the pockets of American citizens. And that's the advantage that an income tax has for the government. Now, the federal government has a claim to look at to look at the books and records and financial activities of every citizen without respect to whether there's any suspicion of any wrongdoing. The IRS doesn't have to allege that there's any criminal activity to conduct an audit against people. They just have to that end. We even need a reason they can arbitrarily decide that they wanna look at your records. Just because they want to look at your records, which is something the founders never intended the veteran federal government to be able to do interesting. They've got new spyware don't they? Absolutely. In fact, in fact, the the IRS has got got literally trillions of bits of information that is flowing in. To the agency every year, George just for example, this tax season. There's going to be about three point six billion information returns, we're talking about W twos and ten eighty nine. Filed with the IRS the IRS also has access to of course, as a hundred and fifty two million individual income tax returns another hundred million business tax returns several million more miscellaneous tax returns like trust returns. And and a state returns, those types of things how does the IRS assembly all of this data and put it into usable form. Well, they've contracted with a company out in California. To build a software program. It's called the company is called up Pailin tier technologies and think pay pal who that's who Pailin tier is. It's a big data company the IRS has contract with and we'll pay over one hundred million about one hundred million dollars to build this computer program, George that will allow the IRS to assimilate all this data into a system that will give them the power to search it analyze it visualize data interact with a wide variety of data sets. So that users are going to be able to leverage that information to perform advanced analytics such as linking data together. Detecting patterns doing statistical analysis even behavioral analysis, George from the data patterns that they get into simple nation. And so the IRS is going to be using massive amounts of data.
