I know you have guns and roses and mammoth tonight at wrigley but I might be heading up to milwaukee saturday night for mammoth and gene are. Wrigley is just for those who've never been it is It's a mess and i. I've gotten to that age where i want to put up a traffic anymore. Going down a wrigley tonight for a concert. I it's i just want no part of it. I just wanna be able to get in somewhere and get right back out the thing with wrigley is it's a neighborhood right. It's in southport. Which is north of chicago. You know it's it's an old school baseball stadium where they put it right in the middle of a neighborhood and you know when when it's full when there's forty thousand capacity and you go it's takes forever to get there and it takes forever to get out and i just don't have the patience anymore and become an old and grumpy but whatever So hopefully saturday night able to make it out there. I think since we've had our next guest on the hook rocks. Obviously we all know a whole lot has happened in between his last visit and now And i'd like to welcome in chris lane from the new york band station. What's up man. how are you. i'm good i'm good. Thanks for having me. Thanks for coming back. I'm i'm so excited about the new album. I had a chance to listen to it. Loved it loved the the the music the lyrics the arrangements. The vibe of the record it is it is just tremendous thank you. I appreciate that i'm really. I'm really proud of this album. I i would say it's actually probably my favorite station efforts date so i'm really excited to share it with everybody. Now you guys self produced this. What was i mean. Was that just a a circumstance of what was happening in the world that you guys just decided a. Let's crawl into a bubble while everything is going on and let's just make this record So you know we've actually self-produced all four of our lp's but the difference is and i you know it's one of those things where it's like. What different here is that. We self made album like it's not just the production. It's everything it's the engineering. And it's the mixing and we did that on glass to a smaller extent but this was like full-on and What you know it. It was one part Circumstance obviously because you know it was hard to get together for a little while there but The other part of it was just that we invested in the ability to record everything ourselves Right after more than the moon and our second album so because we had that now it opened up the doors because we could spend time doing things that matter to us and not just having like look at the clock and say like i gotta get this done. 'cause my day at the studio is ever is over. So you know it really It really influenced our ability to to take the time where we thought we need to take time and produce something that we were very happy with as far as the music goes. What was the idea of of writing this time. I mean there's so much happening you know it's it's you're limited to getting together into having that face to face you know commitment to creating music what. How did you guys overcome these challenges. Well the music was actually written before the pandemic started. So it's funny that i think it's actually especially the subject matter is is pretty appropriate in the sense that like a lot of our very much about evaluation they're about perspective and they're about looking.

You know all the that would and this is more my fault than his the thing he would do to me constantly as he would be being sarcastic but act upset about something through chat. And then i'd i'd go to pieces going on man. I don't want to upset. Ron and the raw but ron wars heart on the sleeve and so i'd be i'd be like oh man of mayan asshole to piss them off and i remember times he you sending me stuff going. I really think. I pissed off what what happened. And he you tell me what was said. And i'd laugh and go easiest faulk with you and he'd let me string it out through the whole day and then in the afternoon i'm talking with you on on man. He knew out of her. He knew how to mess with my head. I still loved him for it but yeah but like even one day he finally was like. Listen if there's a real problem. Between us i will tell you that i'm being serious but otherwise i'm just busting your balls Other than that early on like this motherfucker oh east messing with me. He's he's the friend in high school that if we went ice go together. He would have been snapping. Everyone's ass with a towel. I see that or he play pranks on people. "Monday to all you guys out there all you guys and gals out. There hope. Y'all had a great weekend. We are in the The last lap of summer yet school starting this week for lab people an last week to well. I know my son. The youth rockstarts friday and labor day's approaching and that's kind of like the end of summer. Even though summer ends on september twentieth. It was once the kids get back in school. It's kinda waiting for the leaves to change. And the winds the changing that little brisk morning and of we've had that yet we've had a heat spell as big part of the country has had but yeah you know we're we're almost done with two thousand twenty one. We're like in the round the back nine at this point and we're also seeing a lot of concerts. Cancel too. I know i mentioned mammoth cancelled. Two shows blackberry. Smoke stevie nicks in the list is growing and What are we going to do about it. I don't know don't know. I know what we should do but i don't know if you know. The whole country has an appetite for that. But you know the way things are headed. And i'm usually a positive person but i'm also realistic. I don't know this is going to be a fun fall in winter for a lot of people. I don't know. I don't know what's going to happen. So keeping our fingers crossed excited to see l. a. Guns released their new single this morning from their upcoming album. Checkered past out in november song is called. knock you down and man it. I can't wait for this album album. Feels like it's going to have a lot of angst and anger. She didn't maybe anger. But just a lot of tension because a lot of the bullshit. They've been putting up with with their former drummer. who now has his own band. Which is like the equivalent to bobby lots. Are you know going out on tour with rat got news for the former drummer. No one's going to go see that or and if anyone it does go see that they they didn't see the print above the name says the drummer's name elegance. It's kind of like jack russell's great white well here here's the thing and i you know. I'm kind of glad that they did release a single. Because before we get into our conversation with sydney taylor this has been going on for a couple of years with the former drummer of elegance. And the reason why this is happening. It's not because the former drummer you know is doing an honorable thing and honoring the name of the ban or you know. Feels like he should be out there. Playing under the moniker l. a. Guns has nothing to do with that. Here's the coal hearted truth because of la guns. As resurgence over the last several years. Last two albums may have had a great resurgence. I mean i saw them. April of two thousand nineteen say think it was nineteen so hard with pin the pandemic. It's kind of screws with everybody's time when the place was packed it was the same place that i just saw mammoth couple of weeks ago and they had it filled man and people enjoy the people loved it. They had a good time. That's why former drummers doing this instead of going in starring band with a different name with maybe the same musicians. I don't know but starting with a different name a new name. He's not going to get the pay out that now he has because it. It's called the former drummers names. La guns it's a money grab it's laziness it's what a piece of crap does in my opinion. Okay i mean. That's the coldhearted truth. If la guns never emerges with phil lewis and tracy guns again and doesn't release the last two albums they they did. This conversation never happens but because they did what they did and because the quality of music they did is probably their best since the first few albums. Well if no one's hiring you to be a drummer. 'cause people in the industry may or may not like working with you will. Then what do i do. Let me go. Use another band's name and alternative that meanwhile until the court settled. I'll use the same name. So i can get on festivals so people who don't go on the internet don't know that the la guns that's planted. A certain festival does not feature the founding member. Tracy guns and the original lead singer phil lewis. The one they're going to go see is the drummer. Who's not an original member and a bunch of musicians that may or may not have played on previous albums so nonetheless. Let's keep it moving gladys guns released their new song off the new album coming out november twelfth once again. Everybody this is jay. Scott this is the hook roxie ultimate rock. Many podcast. More and more shows are getting canceled. I man. This is this is being. This is terrible mammoth. Wvu canceled their next two shows. I think one of them was in montana. Your with the other one was but Man this is getting out of control again and we're going backwards and until people start believing in science again. this is This is not going away and it's going to get worse and our kids are going to be back learning and we're going to be under stay at home. Mortars the way things are trending is not good to really not. And i don't know i you know i believe that those who have been vaccinated should have more protections and those that have made the choice to not get vaccinated have to live with what rules and regulations are put in place for them. You know if you can't get into a restaurant without prove a vaccine or a venue that's what's going to have to happen It's sad that we've had to come to this. Most people who are not wanting the vaccine had other medical ailments that they've gone to the doctor and allow the doctor to treat them. They've they've taken prescription medicine. They've had cancer. They've gone to the doctor. They've allowed science to help them. And i don't know why this has become an issue. I don't it's not a political issue. Please don't make this a left and right issue. This is a humanity issue. This is like looking out for your fellow man looking out for one another. You're not going. You know the chances of you having severe side effects are slim. There's always risks with vaccine but there's a greater risk with what can happen with covert if it keeps going in keeps going but i- regress or i digress. I should say let's talk some rock and roll. Let's talk some positive things. What's being escaped. But please start thinking twice about your decision if you have not been vaccinated. You're not going to have a micro chip in your body. Your body's not going to be like a human magnet. These are all silly things. So if you've allowed science to treat you your children before with ailments time to do it again once again. "Diver from. Do what an apple. What a fucking album jerry. I love it. It's one of my favorites in the whole fucking universe. One of the greatest. That's it's obviously not perfect. It went from a you know a beep lost that last part and it was a good structure as three three or four songs could really groove out to listen to again and i you know we talked about. Why talk about a lot. I'm not gonna listen to them ever again. You know. I'll hear this again. I will hear this. I will hear this once. I go back to the bar life out here once. I know but i'll hear it. I'll hear it again. And so the with that i mean i want to say a b. plus i mean i'm wavering again. If it was like if it was an and listen to it on my own. But now that i have to be into it maybe i have to re listen to it like i. Do you know this is a weird one and album like this for me. Because i obviously have so much nostalgia and just things attached to it like that. It's so just Of visceral emotional response a related to this album. But when i sit here you know. I don't listen to this album every week. You know. I'll go wild between listening to this album and i sit here and listen to it first time in a little while and i don't know just sounds real fucking good to those. I can pick it apart and i'm listening. I'm hearing these players fucking killing it. The whole time vinnie apathy again. One of my favorite drummers and this is a big reason why of course other albums to vivian campbell. Who i'm not really a big vivian campbell fan. I don't follow him. In that way a mutt enticed to check out an album. If i hear. Vivian campbell's the guy on it. Like i don't give a fuck. But he was on fire on this whole album and obviously. Do doing his thing in what's got to be the prime of his life the prime of his singing voice. I mean he sounds whether you like his style or not. His voice couldn't be fucking stronger through like he is just righteous five again. We talk about a lot of the he has range and he can move and when he's the when he's saying that one but he did sing like a real like something you'd hear in a in a in a chorus or something and he didn't have any of that and we make void. Make we do that all the time he can do that. But it sounds real. And i think the one knock on them is that it's sort of its mystical. And he just but some people are not going to be into that thing and he never looks like from what we saw rainbow. Rainbow does put when you look covers much like this album cover. There was a lot of ornate looked at weren't they weren't on the front of the cover and he. There was never anything when you saw. You heard this song this back before like the internet. You can look people up when you heard it. You heard saum and you're like oh that's weird. Ronnie you know in his early days. I forget the name of the group but he was in basically like a like a. It was a four. Probably four guys. Four or five guys. Like a doo-wop fucking vocal group He was like it was like he was like little ronnie dio with little who font hairdo like links handsome as fuck black and white. You know it was old but traveling through that type. That's such a journey to go from the basically the genesis of what is rock and roll absolutely to actually taking it to the limits. Yeah that's pretty admirable this is. This is a possible hot. Take for some people people talk about. You know we get into the genres. The names of genres grunge this and that and heavy metal of course as a thing and we talk about we talk about the birth of heavy metal and black sabbath is abandoned often credited for being amongst the very first if not the beginning of heavy metal people say that about the beginning of black sabbath and i get where that comes from and i'm kind of onboard. You know maybe. But i kind of maintain that when black sabbath on through several of their early records they were pretty obviously to me at their core a blues rock band. That's what they were. They literally were a blues. Band called earth and then transitioned into the first sabbath album and and so on and they were a blues rock band particularly the way ozzy approached doing his vocals in those songs and the types of riff they used and all that i would argue that black sabbath didn't become a heavy metal band until dio joined the band. I think heaven. Hell nineteen eighty. The first album with dio is when black sabbath became a heavy metal band. That's when they started to take on more of what we attribute to heavy metal bands and a lot of that is deals lyrics and his type of delivery and the type of things they started doing and the muscles could flex with dio that they could never do with ozzie. Ozzie was limited. And d. And tony i owe me. Of course the great. I owe me from black sabbath. He basically says much. And i know i know for sure. He won't say it in exactly these words but it's been made clear. If i only had his choice he would always have deal. He prefers being able to have. Do in the because they're they're they can do more they can just do more you know and again. I do not say this to shit on ozzy. i love ozzy. I love lucy era sabbath. Those first bunch of ozzy albums in black sabbath are so great. And i love some sabbath. Some some ozzy solo albums to no rest for the wicked diarrhea madman. I love these fucking albums and tons of other great stuff in there to ultimate sin. No more tears as a ton of great shit so not a knock on ozzy. I'm just saying on a singer for singer level. Do crushes most humans You know it's just the way it is and this is a great out so fuck you guys. He didn't do anything. I don't know just you know he fucking jerry. Listen you stop drinking. I am i love you. I love you glacier alive. Still thank you. You're gonna give me seventy five dollars for this. Everybody thanks for tuning in. We'll talk to you soon don't square..
