"That is not nearly as lot cited as it wasn't a bruised favor yesterday. With brett anderson versus miles. Mike lists cardinals plus one twenty one ten in a row. They're getting it done with timely hitting the middle of their order tyler. O.'neil paul goldschmidt nolan. Arnaldo they have come alive in the months of august and september. Yati melina is playing the audio molina baseball. we're all he does get quote unquote clutch hits and their manufacturing runs. Their starting pitching has been good. There has been amazing with a bunch of guys. I didn't even know her in the cargo on two months ago who is tj macfarlane. Who is luis garcia. Who are these guys that have come up. And absolutely dominated in the last couple months of the so for whatever reason they the markets keep making them underdogs despite them beating really really good teams during the stretch. So i won't be able to use them for dog the day but again you're gonna plus value on hottest even baseball. Plus twenty against a brewers team that they wanna beat in Even the brewers are pretty much locked up the central cardinals like the aren't going to catch him so i don't think the brewers are coasting certainly down the stretch. But i do think the cardinals obviously a play in the best baseball of anyone in the bigs right now. So plus when twenty. Consider that. But certainly like i said our favorite bet is isolating the giants get into padres team that stinking sitting out a pitcher in vince velazquez Who the picked up literally off the scrapping. You mentioned the dodgers with bueller pitchy. He's been shaky a little bit by his standards. Of course down the stretch when buehler's pitching the major one day away from the best bet and all of sports and that is max scherzer. Who's been really unhittable. I actually think it's an mvp consideration. He is the odds on favor right now for the cy young so he goes tomorrow cores. Just an absolute beast but so that does it for us. We'll be on six eastern tonight on. Espn two as we are throughout the week. And welcome to fall. Everyone and arthur congratulations guinea. Pigs for us. Now he's just sniffing around bookshelves and he's good. He's behaved doesn't work. It's that's the beauty of having a dog doesn't bark is know you just bring them anywhere while you're taping that's gonna do it. Yeah yeah he's he is being a good boy. He's following direction that you gave. Okay we'll see you back tomorrow here on the podcast and then we'll have a football one as well. So we'll have two podcasts tomorrow. And like i said daily wager tonight six eastern..

"Hit the opposition but still the details are very important and there are teams that are not paying enough attention to them for this season and again. It's just very disconcerting. To see the yankees keep popping up on these lists. The best team is indians at sixty one percent. So the indians who don't score a lot of runs doing what they can pay attention to the details getting runners in taking extra bases all that kind of thing. You know this stuff matters. That's a reason why. The indians one of the biggest overachievers in baseball this season. They're cutting down the run game. They're taking extra bases themselves. So these are things that really have helped the indians to the record that they currently have the cardinals and the orioles both sixty four percent. Stolen base percentage marks against than the nationals and the astros at sixty five percent. So it just kind of some fun with numbers here things from baseball reference. But i do think that there are some chances here to look for hidden surplus value to look for some matchup based handicaps. Look for some helpful. Things in this decreased k. Percentage environment all of that. So some good stuff here. I think some stuff to keep in mind. Get something you just kind of file away in the back of your mind and as you start handicapping the card you remember. Oh yeah and. I'm talked about that on the show. So just things that can be part of that whole handicapping process aren't so we take a look down the lines here. Talk about some line moves that we've seen dating back to tuesday. Some interesting money moves out there. Not a lot of great series this week. We've seen a lot of big favourite roles not a lot of overly competitive series and games here but we did see some interesting line movement across the card for tuesday vince velazquez and the phillies taking money. Against the miami marlins and trevor rogers. I thought was very interesting. The marlins when the biggest underachievers in baseball based on all the alternate standings metrics rogers very good starter and yet the phillies took the money in that game on tuesday and did win that game. I believe four to three was the final also. The money was right in that game but line move. That really caught me off guard kind of surprised me quite a bit. A line move. That didn't surprise me on tuesday. Brennan woodruff from the brewers taking a lot of money against zach davies and the chicago cubs. Brewers did sweep that series. Hopefully you're able to get involved and cash a couple of tickets in that one or a series price something like that. The yankees took money against the angels in basically all four games. They've taken a little bit of money here on thursday as well. Not big line moves necessarily but things that have been noticeable. I would say so the yankees taking a lot of money again. They don't pay attention attention to the details. Yeah they've got some positive indicators in the profile but they are a team just not living up to their expectations right now and yet they still keep taking money pretty often in the betting markets. So some heavy money. On the blue jays for their game between chris flexing and robbie ray that was the jays and the mariners in that one not a big surprise in toronto was away with a nine to three victory. There nick prevented and the red sox took some money on tuesday as brad keller and the kansas city royals can not a surprise with that line. Move bread keller's terrible. Other royals have not played well here of late so the red sox taking a lot of money there in that one oakland took some money with james cappelli and on the mound that was largely a fade of mike fulton average. Had the run line in that one in the article didn't come through in fact the as lost that game outright but the fate of fulton average on the road is something i would look to to have. Excuse me in. All of his upcoming road starts to say the least. So that's a line moves that we can expect to see whenever full on the road on. I'm not sure where he is this weekend. But you know if he's on the road expect money to come in against him for that game also on tuesday here. We saw fate of richhill richhill with the decrease spin rates. Not really a great looking profile. There we also saw over money in that game against the nationals. With joel ross. On the other side of the full game didn't get there. The first five did the full game did not get there. But you'll money coming in against richhill another thing. I would expect to see as we go forward here wednesday. We saw some cardinals money. That was kwang. Hyun kim against riley smith not really a big surprise there. The diamondbacks have actually lost forty eight of fifty six games over the last two months. There were three and twenty. Four in the month of june on not a very good look for the diamondbacks yet again as the cardinals swept them in saint. Louis john grand. The rockies took money on wednesday as well. And i'm on the rockies for today and three out to pick for today i'm on the rockies. I'm fading adam wainwright on the road but the rockies pitching staff has been significantly better at home here for this season. They've apparently committed to figuring out how to pitch at chorus field. Where they've actually been pretty competitive. They have the worst road. Dra in baseball but they've been pretty good at home. All things considered what the conditions and all of that john. Gray one of those guys with good home road splits. So great took some money on wednesday. We were on the rockies on wednesday round the rockies again on thursday here but they did cash that ticket for us yesterday. Heavy money on joe. Musk grove in the padres. That was a rain-shortened game against vladimir gutierrez still had twelve runs even though the game only went into the top of the sixth. But the padres do get that win as that game called due to rain heavy blue jays money once again on wednesday. We're going to see a lot of mariners fades as we go forward here. I've talked about them. Big overachiever based on all the alternate standings metrics and all of that so seeing money on toronto on wednesday not really a big surprise seeing money in toronto on toronto someplace the mariners today. But you know this is one of those things where seattle is a team. That will get faded a lot. Big overachiever great. Record in one. Run games you know. This is one of those teams you wanna look for line moves with and you wanna get out in front of those as much as you possibly can. This one did lose but this was a line that moved above..

"But i do think like soon as fire is and went there. I told you getting some saves because the way tampa bay uses pitchers lewis patino. They will protect him in a way that he cannot be say jackson coa right and waka to defend him here which we have probably more than we've spent a lot of time on him if he went four five six innings in his next three starts. I think you would be open to considering him at that point. I think we're more worried about the volume that he gives them the recent history than we are about him never contributing this year. We don't think of him as jeez. i'm trying to think of. We don't think of him as we do matt harvey for example. Oh i don't think anybody is matt harvey. I'm trying to think like what. I would compare walker to right now because he's not. I mean look zero a high one but his whip is not bad in relation. The fact is though he's never going to win games so that's one problem and a strikeout rate is low. So they're doing something with him where they can get to have affected four or five effective innings routing such a good thing but my my valuation compass cal cointreau. That's perfect that's a perfect cop. That's exactly what i was shooting for their. I wanna buy in. But i need to see a little bit more volume for the those two guys. Fridays volume all night game series. Paint plus couple of them including Phillies with vince velazquez. So you don't want against johnny cueto who by the way you also don't really want and then walk a s seattle against kukuchi. Seattle's offense not exactly prime time. If you wanna use walker there i just. I don't know if he's going five innings. That's my biggest. It's a great matchup. If it's just yeah like. I said i could see four luis garcia back on the mound for houston and every next could be one of his last ones. Because they don't want to go to a six man rotation which is a shame because cs pitched well. It's against close. Continue right about road on back. In april and i was wrong he continues to pitch. Well it's no hits stuff every outing with strikeouts. He staying healthy pleased to help the Carlos don legit. He's got to be among our top twenty starting pitchers at this. You're updating your rank. He's he's top twenty now isn't he. Rode on okay He's gotta be close at this point. I've got a. He might be nineteen or twenty just based on the numbers game. I the only reason. He's not an automatic for me is they are very clearly. Capping is innings. The only thing. I don't like about them this year. Saturday there is they actions. Or if you're in belize. Get them in early. Chris bassett at yankee stadium. That's kind of interesting. Correspondents good better than i thought. I didn't think strikeout our eight You like him in home games but these these good Espn plus as alec mono the youngster. Toronto at baltimore can't get much better match up there. I mean they're batting. Freddie galvez third. It you need to be using alec manoa at yes. I mean yes syria. You pretty galvez batting third. He wanted to be on the dodgers. It's just amazing to me. Josh fleming. he may go five innings. he's at seattle. I mean basically. We're that's all matchups. For tampa bay this weekend What is patrick santa. He's on the most out of this. Patrick sandoval the angels lefty. He's hosting detroit on saturday. Interested there based in the match. By 'em a little bit. I i would prefer the righty going against detroit. But it's a good enough magic to stream especially if you're going for volume if you're playing catchup game not the ketchup game catcher game. The catcher game adam wainwright by the way every outings quality start he gets innings but in eight to eight point two on the road this season according to kyle. It's only four starts. Maybe it's nothing we raise from georgia. I believe what you wainwright i. We talk about him a lot. Because i've got him on a couple teams. And i'm happy with them. It's a lot of innings and the strike are as fine using that atlanta's not exactly bashing the ball at labs not deep when you're the you know albee's third swanson fourth grade kinda middling less checked. I'd lean towards a go for him. I actually think wainwright is a fairly locked in every start guy. I think about each matchup but i'm i lean towards and being in there so i didn't realize this stat the kyle has austin gombar at home. This season in five home starts three and warm with a zero point. Nine five year rate a one forty batting average against he sosa. Milwaukee how are we not use austin gombar now is that that's not enough sample size but isn't it like are we waiting for on austin gama. Dresden look at these numbers at home. It's cores i just don't i mean this is cla. The is part of gombar. Is the classic juice the orange and by that standpoint. he's fifty two projected game starting by the way that's one with me doing the tweaks to bring it down a little bit the true number. Say that he's a clear lockton starter. I give them a go i do. We have to give him a go now if he's pitching this well of course field. He's figured something it's five starts is maybe not figured out but you know i only give him some credit here so so two things on that one is. He gets milwaukee for his next two starts. Milwaukee actually grades a pretty clear favourable match for left handed pitcher. They're a little too lefty heavy as an overall lineup. But i do think it's going to have a game at cores. That comes up unexpectedly. he just gets bombed. And that's what scares me about him. He's not a big swinger miss guy. he's doing a lot of finesse. Long-term scared aren't you. Of course not of course. of course yes what. i think. It's a little silly to just leave him. Sitting there on free agency in your league based on the way. He's been pitching well of course field so i probably would add them to see. If this is real sunday night baseball is panned cardinals and atlanta kwon. Kim scheduled to start for saint louis. Lefty atlanta is undecided. I'll go against undecided there They tucker davidson spot that he went on the radio right. I don't even know who's getting that star. I mean every kid comes up. He pitches well and he gets hurt. Like that's the season it's amazing pitching. Just can't stay healthy. And then monday starts the whole new thing in baseball with. I what i think is going to happen. Here is as much ado about nothing because no managers wanna come out and say hey. The pitcher and the other team is doing this because they they know their own pictures doing it. So i just think it's going to be a whole lot of nothing less umpires force it. I don't think hitters wanna do it because then somebody's gonna throw their head because becca justified in baseball. So i really think this whole new like that starts monday. The enforce the rules is a lot of nothing except for the injury part because all the pitchers are so scared of getting caught and getting suspended. I think glass now is right. But i don't think monday night. We're just gonna see. Five pitchers caught suspended. Either i d. i doubt that happens. There's no fantasy annual here. You have to rostro pitcher so so guessing who's using illegals i. They're all using some kind of legal stuff. Maybe even austin mom. I.

"Four on the fan and very good Tuesday afternoon to you've been going Roberts in the afternoon, 877337 66 66 is the phone over here till six o'clock down. I guess it's Mike coming. Always right, Princess. I would assume that they think so. Why not? Anyway? Tommy Lew Gower is in Manhattan and 30. Acosta's in Yonkers. And with life in the Caliphate, Eyes studio where nobody, nobody. Nobody, nobody and nobody has happened. At least outfits. I and nobody, bro. How are you of Fantastic? How the heck you babe Right now? I want to watch the Yankees a little bit last night And tonight before we get 1/9 inning and plot over tonight, getting that there was no reason for right and yesterday I'm watching a game and Oh, this is Thie Fillies, and the Yankees have given a Phillies permission to use to designated. It is all right. Well, I don't give you no Yankees. I was very, very accommodating of the Yankees to do that was tickets. It was very strange. That was just the beginning of strangeness. I'll say yes, last night's game. You know how every once in a while will take just a bunch of baseball calls of things they would do to change the game of baseball in one ideas crazier than the other. Right. That was last night's game because a you had the fillies with an extra D h U Had the Yankees able to take deejay Lemak you out of the game, but keep him in the batting order truck amount brought. I think it was Tyler wait in a place second, so he entered the lineup as the 10th guy, but deejay stayed in the game. And then in the fifth inning, you had this magical moment. Where Vince Velazquez gets through the fifth inning ends it with a double play deejay Lemak, you lines out. And then The Philadelphia Phillies say Hey, Yankees, do you mind? You know, Vince hasn't gotten to his pitch count yet. Can he face Aaron? Judge even though those three outs in the end, So you know Boonie, of course, is why not? Why not move quick. It's started six o'clock did no big deal Lets go. Lets me Velazquez another chance. What is Aaron? Judge do It's a hole. Brother, of course, And then there's confusion doesn't end there. Judges at second base, he doesn't know what to do. He's like Mike supposed around the bases. Does this count the fillies, then walk off the field because the ending was over. So for anyone who's ever called up, but I'm sure we've got this phone call. Who said Hey, wouldn't it be cool if you allowed a team to get an extra out in any inning of they choose That happened in the fifth inning. The Yankees were given the opportunity of three outs to send another battle. I'm more on the side of two designated hitters that four outs The sight of nothing. Well, I understand, But I mean, if I if I had it was I had my choice. Four outs to th is I'm going through. I understand. You know what I mean? There was just so much weirdness from that game, And yet I couldn't look away because if I can't say I was locked into the whole game last night, I mean, but Just watching these three nights. I mean, it's just a boy. I hope. I hope it feels to me and I understand he's a three exhibition games. It's very weird, Golda. Different stuff we've seen like you mentioned, you know, through the ages and extra our order. But I hope once it's it's for real Thursday night, and it has a different feel to it, because I don't like the feel of it is a weird feel to it. You know, I agree with that or not. It's an incredibly weird feel to it. And when the Yankees play opening night on Thursday night, there's good there. There isn't going to be any electricity inside of National Park. There's not fans. Let's go fans, right, so the electricity or the passion that you have Is simply that you're a Yankee fan, and you really want to win. The game was seen with the Mets the following day, Jake, unfortunately, pitch for that. Yes and Jake look good the other day, and I just saw his zoom interview about an hour ago. 1/2 hour ago. He's ready to roll. So I think it's really going to be us as fans caring more about those games, and we have the last three nights and that's going to create the energy and even the player reactions. You know if you get a big strikeout to get out of the seventh inning, and you're Jacob to Graham and you pump your fists because you just got that last big out, and now you're probably going to go to the bullpen where the bullpens gonna blow it for you. Are you going to still have that same Excitement or energy coming off the mound. Same thing with the guy who gets a big hit in the game when they pump their fists, right? I assume because their competitors and they want a win, and the same stuff is on the line, even if even if there aren't fans there that that's gonna happen, So I think what added to the oddness of this Is the fact that these games don't count. So as we're watching it, we don't really have any passion about result. Yeah, Yeah, right. Exactly Right. You know, you don't play and not playing like every day was like the night telling everybody every regulars not playing, so they're not every regular is not playing a full game, right? It's it's just, you know, the pitching way the way they're doing with the pitching. It's just a different feel to it. But I tell you one thing I was thinking about this, too. What's the season starts this season is gonna fly. Yeah, you know it is season is going to be I mean, we're going to turn around and before you know it, it's going to be like you know the middle of August, and we're going to be almost halfway through the season. That's why s so It really is going to be different. I'm telling I really, That's why I think it's going to feel like a football season to a lot of us. His die hard fans where every game and every Siri's is going to be monstrous. It's gonna be a big deal. And they didn't expand the baseball playoffs. It's the same feel that we're used to five enough legal and so opening day for both the Yankees and the Mets, and probably more so the Mets because the Mets are in the middle of this kind of pack in the National League East, While the Yankees, at least on paper to me are far better, almost everybody in the American League. This includes the ability and the race. And, you know, even the Dodgers are very good, even in the Korea League. I mean, yes, the loaded Oh, my God, Look at this team. I mean, Eyes that can't even get on the field with Frasier talk Min. You know, I mean, it's just right now. These guys, they say, I am the heart. I mean, these guys can't even get on get on the field..

"Do we like this, Wayne Randazzo? Have we good? Yeah. He's determine absolutely I haven't heard enough of him calling again, just here the highlight. So I really don't know. I gotta hear him actually call the game and really letting him in how you're actually good together. How he had a phony commercial? They're doing a free t shirt Friday with put it in the books. He had a funny commercials. Staying in the dugout next to his daughter saying he wants to change put into in put it in the books to something more modern like swipe, right or put it on the Graham. And how does it really funny? I have not explaining it on the Graham. But he does a really good job in the books is good. I saw the t-shirt promo that they're playing, and Gary was mentioned that he might have to carve out some extra time because people are going to want to sign the t shirt. Yup. So we'll see how does that. This Friday is doing it's going to be mobbed by thousands. He might like Joe on the subway or at the garden, and he goes there could be mobbed by God knows how many. Yeah. Here's Mickey Callaway. Talking about Wheeler with a cool accomplishment. Seven scoreless innings five at ball eleven strikeouts. Two run double the home run as well. It sounds like he was the first pitcher to ever throw a hundred and hit a ball hundred. That was the first pitcher ever to do that. So that was that put him over the top. It seems like no he was he was in. That's a real step, by the way, not making that up hundred miles an hour on seriously folks thing on. And you get the sense before staring at him. Your mom so fat when she sits around the house, you really sits around the house, get it. Anyway. Here's Wheeler thrilled to contribute with the bat. Not just on the mound. You know pitches. Obviously, I, but we work lot hitting and we take pride in it. And you want to go there and do well as a staff, and then they have whether it's him or Syndergaard or Jacob degrom. Even Steven Matts can swing it to. Here's Todd Frazier. He had a grand slam in this game. He says it was sort of embarrassing the fills wanted him up with the bases loaded. The second time they intentionally walked somebody to get some time to step up and. I've been doing my whole life. And it's just one of those things where I hid it. I'm like come on get out get out, and it did and it was real exciting. So hopefully. If that happens again, I'm ready to rock now in the ninth inning. This game was long over was nine nothing. Couple of two men out Jacob rim closed the game. But also through a Reese Hoskins, not once but twice. And so it'll be interesting to see if you get any fireworks tonight. "I mean, Michael Franken move from eight to five for a reason because they're missing several hitters. So, you know, and that's the although have you seen Bryce Harper's numbers against left handed starters versus left handed relievers last I looked against lefthander relievers. He was like seven for fourteen with multiple home runs stores are hurting them against lefty relievers destroying them. So anyway, you never sitting him. What else? Do we want to discuss? Brad peacock is starting for Houston today. ESPN plus Getty pm, plus it's so easy. It's so cheap against Jayco to Rizzi, delight. Like, Brad peacock? I think that's a now he's sticking their rotation or what? Because that's the guy you want. I do like him. I will start them here. I do believe he'll stay in the rotation. I think he has to good stuff, otherwise unless they had some sort of magical thing where Josh James forces way into the rotation and force Whitley arrives peacock is he's going to be there. The match up of the day. Brad Keller in Yanni Torino's. You love Torino's us. We have to love Torino's. He's pitching really well for Tampa Bay Kansas City. Not exactly a star studded lineup there these still basis, but I liked Keller two left him active in several leagues your thoughts. I would agree with that. I prefer of this matchup, but Keller's definitely interesting. And you know, what it's in the pitching friendly ballpark. That's a plus for Keller in this match. Keller seems like a door guy makes thirty two starts with an era of three seventy five. But it's going to be a lot of runs like it's going to give up stuff but three seventy five and one twenty whip with one hundred and sixty strikeouts. Take that even if it's only eight wins because the rollers are bad Tuesday PM plus the first game of the days earlier. It's at six ten pm eastern. It's Pablo Pez, you you and I rave about but it ain't happening right now. But it's that Cleveland, they're not exactly offensive team. I even with Lynn door back. Like, it's still not a great lineup and Ramirez looks terrible. So I will leave Pablo as active. Oh, I like it. I had this very same thought. Look at Pablo as commend numbers, walks straight. Oculus Astor and second against the Phillies, and again, not a full lineup there. Here's interesting. I, you know, I want Freeland L labor are French rated for Geraldo par straight up which to me is like giving them away. He's not gonna like that. He's gonna text me right away. I agree with you g agree though. Like, I could've gotten or labor though, you got to keep them active for every start. Exactly he looked great at home against the Phillies in over the weekend. Did and I should've texted him and said are what do you want? And it wasn't a lot. Like, I wish I could have done that. Anyway, anything else on to how about Eric Swanson a Seattle against Nick I can't pronounce his last name mortga because she Marceca's which God you like there. I'm not trying to be mean, Marquette, riches, Marta, gavitt shifts. It a pair of rookies here. I drifted them consecutively in a league you're not in in like the dynasty round like in the prospect round. And people were like why is he doing that? These are not prospects. But they're at least have numbers for next season. Anyway, you thought. Swanson or mortga? I I was looking at Swanson because of the to start matchups here at least he's in San Diego. Now granted I mean, Seattle also give them the ballpark on. But I think that if you're trying to go with the volume angle, I'm okay with it. And I prefer him to Marquette riches. I think to start guys, you know, you know, my slam dunk for that. Pronounces last name way. Zac, eflin okay to start slam dunk this week. I think of high school musical when they say that name, what's the guy's name left. Ron of that, you know. Young. Well, okay. Briefly lots of the actual ways. They please get your lineups in early Vince Velazquez and Jason Vargas, one of those guys has upside the other. Yeah. Very much. So and Jordan Lyles on ESPN plus at home against Zona. It's healthy..

"I'm I'm keeping an island. Tyler what you might think. I'm nuts. But he's my starting third baseman in Horton league. And he's he's starting. I've already seen that he's starting today against the right hander which they've not been doing. They've been platooning them. Tony camp give Tyler what a chance against right hundred. I really think he can still be like, and it is I think Tyler can put up any number season. If they just let him play four hundred and fifty as you probably don't agree. But that's okay. I I actually. Don't have a problem with that. I don't think they're gonna get there the same way. But I don't think that's the typically that's far off is being plus has Annabel Sanchez against Vince Velazquez, who would you rather us, you're an attentive standard or team rodeo, boy, please you're talking about for the rest of the year, not this matchup 'cause I don't like that Onny ball and Philly thing as the Phillies last week, and it didn't go. Well. Sanchez. Yeah. I agree with season. It Sanchez for me here. And it's not by leaps and bounds. But I think it's pretty clearly I don't like this matchup. If if Alaska's has April he gets replacing the rotation. I'm quite certain of that they have other options rotation. No, they have a six man rotation at triple a Lehigh valley. It's not going to be Dallas creko. It's going to be one of those guys who either had a good spring. Like, what is it drew Anderson or the lefty they have urban somebody would replace Velazquez if he doesn't doesn't pitch. Well, I'm telling you it's not going to be Waco anyone else. He today. Do not use Julio Toronto cores field. People. Do not do that. Are you like Eric lower San Francisco. I like almost anybody in San Francisco that that ballpark. I mean, come on. But lower lower did a pretty good spring training. He did a good I start the last one was a little bit shakier did face Zona. We talked about before. But that first game was against San Fran. Tuesday's gonna double header on ESPN about this. Would you use match shoemaker at Fenway? Chris sale. I say, no. Oh, I shouldn't have additive in the empire league. Then I oh, man. I messed that up. Wow. No. I shouldn't have done that. I just wrote that I feel like the Red Sox are gonna have a huge week. Outings shoemaker in Jordan Zimmermann or the two guys right now who I would say where did that come from? And they're both pitching on Tuesdays faces Corey kluber and the Indians clue been terrible. And the Indians lineup is terrible. So I can make case Jordan Zimmermann. Sure, I'll use them on Tuesday. But Matt shoemaker at Fenway. No way, no way. I'm telling you Red Sox five games. And this is going to be a big week and people are going to be off the bandwagon. Not shoemaker Jordan Zimmermann or urban Santana making his season debut Tuesday at home against Tampa Bay. Who who do you want this season people are adding these guys this is important answer? Actually, people are adding Zimmerman shoemaker, and I don't think they should. And I would not even Santana either. But all these three you want any standard for the no not tenne team for the season..

I think you're going to say the Phillies, I write. I'm absolutely going to say the Philly. I I know you're very high in Phillies. Andrew mccutchen is already homered today. They signed Bryce Harper. Obviously, they traded for Sean Johnson Gora. They've they they traded for John Carlos. JT muto. Yeah. There's they signed closer, David Robertson. They've got a rotation now with Aaron Nola who's a Cy Young candidate, Jake Arrieta, Vince Velazquez, Nick pathetic, Zach effluent they are going to be a handful in the National League east a handful picking the nationals to win that division. Sherzer as a machine and their rotation is improved. Yeah. I mean, they trust Burke act. They're they're gonna have Strasbourg they signed Patrick Corbin from the Diamondbacks. A really good lefty. They've got a really nice rotation. Their bullpen is a bit of a mess and their lineup there. Everyday lineup is not what it was last year without Harper. I still think they'll get up for a while card. But I, but I don't they'll be in the one game plan, and Greg you're picking the Braves to come out of that. I'm thinking the Braves I like the rotation. "Welcome back to the John cage show on CBS sports radio. Still can't decide am I getting the red Harper T shirt jersey, or am I getting the blue I may have to get both. Look you heard it on the show as I've told you all the time. I I was preferring. Yeah. I thought Manny Machado was the better choice the better player, but it's like getting the blue bike instead of the red bike on Christmas morning. What the Phillies guide yesterday? Scott Lauber covers the Phillies for the inquirer. And the daily news had Philly dot com, and he joins us here on the jonky cage show Scott Harper Machado before free agency began as a fit for the Phillies, which one did you personally prefer. Well, I mean, look, I think that there were cases to be made for as you just said, you know, it's the glue bike or the red by I looked at it as Machado p probably the better all around player the defense in conjunction with the offense. You know? He's a he's a good shortstop. He's an elite third baseman and. That that would have been I think a lot of people's preference. In fact, I think there were a lot of people in the Phillies baseball operations. Do we're probably thinking along those lines they pursued Machado very very aggressively at the all star break last year probably made as good an offer as they could have to get him Orioles preferred the dodgers offer, it's dead. But I'm told that was a pretty strong offer that they made. Now, you know, I looked at Harper, and I saw a left-handed hitter in a very right handed lineup and felt like he was a bit in that in that way. You also fit in a lot of ways with their offense philosophy which is to see a lot of pitches to be patient to draw walks get on base, and at the end of a lot of those long at that to hit the ball over the fence. That's something that gave Kappler and John maley the. Hitting coach of preached since they've been here. So I saw the I saw the benefits of of either player. I just I'm kind of like, you know, Machado was the better all around player. But I'm not sure Harper what better fit given what their wind needs work. Tell me about your thoughts on gave Kappler because all I saw last year. And again, you're with that team. Every day you're noticing what they do when I saw Gabe Kaplan. I saw a guy who over managed and every day even as a Phillies fan, I'm watching on the satellite and down here. I get to watch a guy like Brian snicker in Atlanta who overachieved with a young team by purpose of purposefully not over managing. How's it going to change? I think that's definitely a fair criticism of capitalism, certainly it opinion that a lot of Phillies fans share is that he did at times over manage. Try to kind of. Get a little get a little too. In his own way. I would I would say that's fair. But I would also say that a lot of the things he did he kind of had to do they had a they had an amazingly imperfect team last year, and when you think about how many days, they spent the first place. I mean, there was a reason why most of us were like we're not really buying in because they were very very flawed team. And capper told me pretty recently. We were talking about some of the moving parts in that lineup last year. And at some of the things he did. And I think he felt like in order to bring out the best in that. He there were some things he had to do he had to maneuver the lineup. The way he did he had to be some things that were perceived this unconventional and an unorthodox and an eyebrow raising. And I think you're gonna see a very different approach at least with his everyday lineup. This year the players that they added between. Harper AT, rearview, to- cigar. Interim mccutchen added to the group of read Hoskins and the other returning players. I think you're gonna see a very much more static lineup. He's I don't think he's gonna do nearly as much moving around and and juggling and shifting now. You know, he's talked about there being a competition. Pratt bath centerfield and at third base. I don't really buy it. I think that'll do Harare as long as he's healthy is their center fielder. I think my Bronco as long as he's healthy. And at least somewhat productive is there. Most of the time third baseman, Scott Kingery is going to move around a lot of different positions. But for the most part the lineup is what it is. And I think you're gonna see Kappler pilak more or look a lot more conventional at least in terms of how he manages. It lineup doubt. He manages bullpen. Away. He manages bullpen. And he he doesn't like the traditional closer. And he kind of you kind of doesn't doesn't really like locking guys into rolls out there. I don't think that's gonna change. And you know, I think it's possible that you know, rotation-wise you could see some funky things. If if if they decide that, you know, an opener is there is the way to go at some point during the year. I could see them turning to that. But I think and I don't think they feel that way right now, I think they're confident they're five guys. But if somebody gets hurt or whatnot, I think they're open to doing some things like that that are that are that are outside the box. But I think lineup wise you're going to see a much more conventional Kappler because now we have the personnel where he can run the same lineup out there all on most nights and feel pretty good about it. If I gave you I made a prediction earlier on the show from one to ten basis that this could happen. I see the top four teams in the national. League East being separated by five games at Labor Day. Could is that inconceivable from what you've seen this off season. Do you think one or two teams are head and shoulders above the rest? No, I really don't. I think that's very conceivable. I mean, Healy's fans, of course are over the moon right now about Bryce Harper. And the other moves that the team has made they spent almost half a billion dollars this off season between Harper real mutual who doesn't really cost a whole lot of and Robertson. Cigarroa all the guys bench. It it all adds up to about half a billion dollars a half a billion dollars. They're thrilled with the addition that they made, but I bet if you go to Washington right now, they're gonna tell you how much better they are with Patrick Corbett. And some of the other moves that they've made this off season. I'm sure if you go to Atlanta, they're thrilled with some of the things that they've done to the team that that won the division last year. I know they feel good in New York. I know Brody bandwagon. Feels good really good about the things that he's done. Even if they weren't sort of obvious moves to everyone at the time that the the Cadeau trade getting it with the study closer that trade. Jack Lowry widow is injured but is a productive hitter. When he's healthy. I mean, so so they're pretty happy with what they've done. So, you know, while while I hear mostly from Philly's fan about how much better they think the Phillies we're going to be I'm sure that people in those other markets are feeling the same way about their teams that I I do I think it's going to be a very very competitive division this year, probably the best division that baseball. And and you're gonna have four teams better. The Braves won the division last year with ninety win gonna take well more than ninety. I think with the division this year. And it's conceivable that the third place team with ninety it doesn't make playoff. So I'm I'm I'm buying that. It's a strong division and are buying that. There are four teams that are pretty serious about wanting to win the division. Bigness? Biggest weakness that the Phillies had coming into the year, even after getting Harper and real and. Cigarroa biggest weakness that they need to fix. Biggest question for me without without a doubt at the starting rotation. You know, I I was somebody who felt going into the offseason like of all the things they needed to do what they needed help. And a lot of areas that starting rotation was one of them. And that's the one area of the team that they didn't touch. The starting five going into the season is gonna be the same starting five. They ended last year with Aaron dole Jake Yari addictive, Vata Zafran and Vince Velazquez and those those last three guys that particular preventive Alaska's, an effluent are all young pitchers in their twenties and the Phillies are are the Phillies believed that all three of them are going to continue to get better. But we know we've seen enough baseball though that development, especially pitching is not always linear. Just because those guys took steps forward. Last year does not need all free that will take steps forward. This year. They went hard after Patrick Corbett. They wanted it badly. They get you went to the national's. They did make an attempt to say half. But I think it was sort of. You know, one foot in one foot out kind of attempt on here. And then after he sat beside with the Yankees, they looked at just about everybody else with a free market, including Dallas, Kyko still out there. And they kinda were like. You know, it's not a real upgrade over what we have. Well, I think that's debatable. And and you know, Kyko is as I said still out there. It would be interesting to be if he if he gets to the point where he's willing to take a one year deal, whether the Phillies jump in and try to grab a because for a here he could certainly help their rotation for two years he could certainly help their rotation. But for me, there are still three big question marks at the back end of it for that a f- went Velazquez and. And what those guys do and whether they count on those guys they were all good for the first half last year. They all struggle down the stretch like the rest of the tea did. And I think that that's certainly the question facing the Phillies now with this lineup that you know, it's not the best lineup of the National League. It's gotta be right up there at all kind that looks pretty good. What are they going to get out of their starting rotation catches work in the Enquirer, the daily news and Philly dot com. Scott, I appreciate your time. That is Scott lobby to great job. Thanks, man. Sure anytime he joined us here on the jonky cage show on CBS sports radio..

"He struck out Vlad junior twice. He's big. He's two hundred twenty pounds unless you look at MLB the shell Rotella on eight definitely not one eighty the guys in absolutely unit and his will to work is higher than most people. So I'm looking for big things out alcohol Irvine this year, and he will be drafted in my fantasy league you can you can print that. How how are we supposed to Cole on this list when he has forty control? I'm not saying that's fake news. And I'm gonna I'm gonna go out there, and at re edit that, and I might report that picture I'm going to go into the rosters myself at that might be the picture for the episode. It's just cold is just Kohl's forty control. It should be with a bunch of question marks next to it. Because it's his it is fifty two bucks for nine. Even though he led all minor league baseball with it. But another reason why I think he's going to be great. And it goes along with that Philly rotation with coal at the four or five slot and Nolan area. The one in two dominant pitching staff. Yeah. I know. I know so awesome. What's your what's your five while we let Cole just fasten his glory here? Yeah. This is by Jack in the box, by the way. Dr not not not a sponsor. But could be a sponsor if they weren't as cold waiting for his lunch today out there out west. But member an I have two honorable mentions. One of us colts teammate, Vince Velazquez, I think he's going to have big year. But a guy that is my favorite pitcher in the entire probably NFL outside of Luke Weaver is Stephen Matt's. Stephen Matt's needs to get right. He needs to stay healthy. And if he can do that and get that sinker going I think Stephen Mets going to be a force to reckon with in that rotation especially when you're in a rotation with degrom Syndergaard Wheeler the list just keeps going on. But let's talk about door. You said it best. No hand foot and mouth dude throws gas books like a Nordic God. And I mean, what can you expect? That follows Jake degrom. He is an ace on pretty much any other two in baseball. I mean, I don't think we can debate that one outside of the bigwigs that have three aces in the rotation this. Yeah. Like, a Washington nationals or something, right? Washington boston. I mean pretty much about it, actually. Yeah. Very short list. I mean, Thor Thors number one on twenty eight other teams. I don't know if this is a big statement. I think Edwin d is is the best closer in baseball right now. The guide thrown out, right? And yet. Yeah. Closers come in spurts, like we we have to realize that. There was a stretch to where palpable on was the best. You know, we saw Eric gonyea do it for a long time. But right now, it's Edwin Diaz, you know, it's not Craig kimbrel. It's not anybody like that. It's a guy that NCI that had a lot of opportunities when it comes to saves save fifty seven games last year and just oh straight gas and can get you with Brigham stuff that just makes people swing out of their shoes. We we get to the top three..

"So that has a little bit cautious with anybody else in the eighty one to ninety range that you touch on between minor Stroman Derek Rodriguez, really I mean with Roman put out at sweet how the tops and I ground ball rates of two thousand eighteen who's through many being at the top around sixty two percent. And it says the names in that list are not names you want to be associated with and the argument I'm trying to make is that those that are I remember back in two thousand twelve thirteen though the big hype was we want high ground. Dog is obsessed. Strikeout ability. I do not believe this anymore whatsoever. And it's seeing this especially with that bad infield in Toronto, maybe gets better. But Nope, that's that's percent for me with him because I off turf alone is enough to dissuade me because it's a fast infield. And then Laura's gurriel Brandon jury and Devon Travis. I'm out hundred percent, right. So he has a really changes approach, and he's not going to know whatsoever. So the only only guys like think of that are successful as high Graham ball people Aaron Nola was at like thirteen on the list. Fifty percent, okay. Then against rooms that sixty two percent kaikal was super good at it. When he was in his prime. But I don't see that being Marcus Stroman. I don't think he has the other secondary stuff even the slider could be so good. It's just he's not using it. Right. The whole thing is just doesn't work. At all can be successful. But it is. So it used to be in your right back in twenty twenty thirteen. It was just treated as like an automatic asset ground ball guy. So he's good. No does he have the context to turn those ground balls in outs. Because if not then he's a hit machine and that Homer becomes a three run Homer because he already has two singles on base. And so I completely agree with you that it was just overrated blindly. It can still be viable you have to have the offense. And ideally like the park, which isn't there aren't many turf fields anymore, but turf is making things faster and more difficult to make playable for for the infield. You don't want that? So it's not an eliminator. But it's not it used to just be like automatic qualifier year ground wrong guy, your somebody drafting not anymore. I fully agree with you there. All right. Let's move onto ninety one through one hundred. We got Matt Boyd Michael Fulmer love that the first tiger pitchers to show up on the entire list. Ninety one and ninety two that's sweet Tigers going huge season. Go one fierce fires. Dana Vince Velazquez, my boy, Brandon Woodruff, Anthony Dusko funny. Matt Strom and Matt Harvey. Let's talk Michael Fulmer because I know we're going to have to say something about him. We've always been obsessed. Hell let's assume health let's assume a modicum of health here because we're going to say that obviously. So let's just put that on he's pitching where you at. Now, if you if you see a healthy, Mike, Michael Fulmer in spring, what is your reaction to that as far as death thing? So in the one thing the one thing I'm looking at is how is he using his changeup? Yes. Because that was the pitch. I remember when he first came up is the fastest the slider. Was there starts to incorporate that change of insects start doing that was when he started having that rookie of the year campaign those credit to James McCann, by the way, who really encouraged him. Nice. You dive in with it and just trust it and kept calling it..
