Kurt Angle Revisits 'WrestleMania Goes Hollywood' and the Thrill of Entertaining

"I'm curious in a segment like this because you've had some of the best matches wrestling history. But you've also had some really comedic home runs. You have a preference. I mean. obviously there's got to be shouldn't say obviously i don't know but there's gotta be a bunch of adrenaline in the middle of a match and you can feel that crowd but when you're doing an entertaining skit like this and you know it's hitting. How does that compare worry. You like man. I got him there in the palm of my hand. I it's it's like hitting a grand slam. It's like winning the super bowl. It's like winning. Olympic gold medal When you when you nail it and you know you did You can't be happier. It's i. I enjoy doing that more in the wrestling. And you know how much. I love getting shirt wrestling so Yeah being entertaining is was the most important thing to me. And i got away from it after a while and i got more into the more intense wrestling machine kurt angle and that was. Because vince mcmahon want me to start portray myself as more serious right But i love. I love making an ass out of myself in. Throw myself out there that that that was really. You know that that's the biggest test to show your confidence that if you can go out there and perform and do stuff. You're not used to doing and you can do a pretty well. That's that's a sign of somebody that has talent

"They want smackdown to be as important as raw but they want it to be the same vibe. And the argument is with with randy orton and cesaro and operate wyatt. And we bring infant valor. And we've got aj styles and anderson and gallows and you know you can list a few other guys that they bring up you know perhaps sooner than later A couple of teams from an x t to strengthen things up especially american alpha. All about that. I mean. I've just did that. That is not a top. Ten concern for me is that That seems to be the top one of the top two things people worry about. Doesn't i'm not worried about that at all because now you have to take into consideration that the wrestlers you see on monday. You're also gonna see on thursdays getting overexposed. So they're going to be booked in a more I don't wanna say meticulous way but the damage of being overbooked overexposed goes away and the pressure that vince will feel to give to protect some of that mid card talent that he was discarding. Because it was so easy. To just book kevin owens in san jose and aj styles or whomever the wrestler of choice wants to fill out tv. Time sets rollins prior to his injury. His tennessee was well. That's over so let's just put them in a lotta segments on both ron smackdown. Well now he can't just take it easy default route. You know. it's like if you've got a bag of potato chips sitting around in your cupboard and you're hungry you're gonna grab bag of chips because it's easy but if you don't have the bag of chips and you got something a little healthier in the fridge it takes a little prep work. You're probably gonna go grab the carrots and the humming and have a better snack because the chips aren't around to me. Vince mcmahon kept reaching for the bag of chips. Whoever i have who i know is over and i can rely. And let's use them on both smackdown. Now he's forced to take a little extra or have his writing. Take a little extra effort to get over Some of the mid carter's that he didn't have the time of day for in the pre roster split era and so my optimism is grounded. On what i think is common sense human nature. We need these guys to be over. Let's protect them and put some time and effort into into making sure that their over and they're protected and we look for their strengths and don't dwell on their weaknesses. And i think that's gonna happen so that to me matters where semi zane and kevin owens end up is is not particularly germane to whether this works because i think we kind of have to see what what flavor they want smackdown to have and does it end up evolving this something different than ross at. I can't look remarkably different than walk because usa network wasn't sold that but over time depending on the makeup of the roster and who gets over there is going to be a different vibe. They're gonna have different writing teams and they're gonna have a different guy on top in different views. And ultimately i think smackdown has a chance In three to six months to be a brand that's differentiated substantially enough. That wearing a smackdown shirt will say something. What will be a message. That fan wants to send to society when he wears it like like wearing a bullet club. T shirt is right now or an annex. T t shirt is right now. I think there's a good chance that smackdown will have its own identity in a way that people wear a t shirt to say. I'm a smackdown guy. Not iraq guy and also vice versa. I'm a raw guy. not back. nokia ultimately they don't want people to hate one and love the other but it's okay to have an affinity preference for one over the other. Wait what this look like. Wwe and the product. We paid this x. Amount of money for but it as a way to become the cool contemporary brand for forty nine year old males his fifty five year olds. We'll get but the that demo needs to be served a product that is absence. Some of the things that are vince. Mcmahon's favorite things to do and smackdown as a place to stand out. The History Of Kayfabe

"Earned. Modern professional wrestling began back in the early twentieth century. When carnivals would put on catch wrestling exhibitions this was real wrestling. The competitors were actually wrestling with each other and there would be prize money to the winner. The wrestlers would often competing against locals. Who would win a prize. If they could defeat the carnival strongman so they really did have to know how to wrestle and fight. Unfortunately many of the competitive matches were really boring the bouts rough and nothing more than wrestling holds. Which could last for over an hour watching grown men grab each other for. That long really wasn't that entertaining. The whole point of carnival wrestling wasn't terrestrial it was to make money. Eventually the promoters figure out they could sell more tickets if they made the matches more interesting and that is how started the word k. Fame but self comes from kearney. Talk which is a pig. Latin type of language which was spoken by carnival workers k. Fehb just means fake. As the carnivals began predetermining the winners of fights it was a shortstop to adopting the tropes which were used in all good dramas good versus evil heroic comebacks treachery and betrayal. All of those became part of professional wrestling in order to put on a better show and sell tickets. However at no point did they ever say that the performance was predetermined people had to think they were watching illegitimate competition. So a bad guy and a good guy couldn't be seen together before or after a show the head to commit to their characters all the time. This is the primary difference that separates k. fehb from acting actors perform role and. Everyone knows that they're watching performance in k. Fehb the performer is living the role even when they're not performing and they're trying to convince the audience that israel for decades keeping cafe was the single biggest rule in professional wrestling. It was the wrestling equivalent to magicians not. Divulging the secrets. The primary care mechanism was having baby faces which were the good guys in heels which were the bad guys. The bad guys had to be bad guys all the time. If they were asked for autographs by fans at an airport they would often refuse to sign an insult. The fans just to keep k fehb when wrestlers travelled between cities heels and faces would often have to travel in separate cars and stay in different rooms. Just to keep k fehb. They would even have different locker rooms backstage. Occasionally they would screw up. Wrestlers would get in big trouble if they broke k. Fehb in one thousand nine hundred eighty seven. The iron sheik. Who was a heel was traveling with. Hacksaw jim duggan. Who has a face. They were both pulled over and arrested for possession of marijuana and cocaine when the arrests made the news to cause controversy. Because these two guys were supposed to be enemies yet. They were traveling with each other on rare occasions. A wrestler may go off script and try to really injure another performer. Any sort of predetermined match or storyline is called a work in wrestling circles. And something which is real or off script is called a shoot in two thousand and four for example. The wwe was running a reality show where the contestants compete to become professional wrestlers. One of the contestants was daniel putter. Who is a real life. Mma fighter on an episode of monday night raw wrestler. Kurt angle issued a challenge for one of the contestants to come out and fight him. According to the script putter was supposed to come out and quickly lose however he decided to actually fight for real on live. Tv when angle wasn't expecting it. Putter tried to put england submission hold instead of losing however kurt angle is a real life olympic gold medalist in amateur wrestling and would have none of it. Technically fehb died in professional wrestling in nineteen eighty nine. When vince mcmahon the owner of the then. Wwf testified before the new jersey state legislature that wrestling was scripted in the matches predetermined this was done in order to avoid being taxed and regulated. Like a real sport today in professional wrestling cave is pretty much dead the. Wwe hosts our own documentaries where wrestlers talked out of character and will often break cafe within their own shows however as cafe has died in professional wrestling it seemingly has taken off in other parts of our culture one of the best examples would be mohammed ali yes that mohammed ali to be sure. All of his boxing matches were real and he was one of the greatest boxers in history however the persona. he created of the arrogant loud rhyming. Fighter was total k. fehb he recalled in a nineteen sixty nine associated press interview about a chance encounter with professional wrestler gorgeous george in nineteen sixty one in las vegas. He said quote. I got it from seeing gorgeous. George russell in las vegas. I saw his aides spraying deodorant and opponents corner to contain the smell. I also saw thirteen thousand full seats. I talked with gorgeous for about five minutes after the match and started being a big mouth and a brighter. He told me people would come to see me. Get beat others would come to see me. When i'd get coming and going and quote alley began creating poems about how pretty was and how ugly. His opponents were his interviews with sportscasters. Like howard cosell. Legendary gorgeous georgia's prediction was absolutely true. Love him or hate him. You couldn't ignore. mohammed. Ali

"Well let's. Let's look to a couple of things i want to say. But at following summer slimy up night of champions and i'm assuming champions will feature champions from both brands that they'll be champ. Us match it so. I think that'll be a dual brand pay per view. Then hell in a cell followed by survivor series. I think survivor series will be dual brand. Because it's a legacy title. And i think that could be an event where you see a quote rare battle between wrestlers and smackdown wrestlers fighting over something hopefully tangible If they fight. And hopefully the parameters are set. Helena sell it could be a brand specific pay-per-view but then i think you would be in a quandary of it. Because then the december pay per view was tlc. And do you wanna do a tlc pay per view that say smackdown only a cell as raw only or do you just say you know. Screw it. we're gonna just make all pay per views. Do brand pay per views but keep the matches rob versus raw and smackdown vs smackdown with the exception of one at survivor series. I'm not sure as for my optimism on the brand split. My optimism isn't that they're going to do it well. My optimism is that it's very easy to do well. It has tremendous benefits if they do it well and there is nothing standing in their way of it going. Really well and making a specially smackdown a much better more relevant program because it won't be an afterthought each week because they're putting new pressure on themselves by making. It live on tuesdays and putting john cena likely on it as the only place. You can see fina smackdown. We'll become more important than i think. That's structurally is different than the last brand split. And it's one you can't ignore vince. Mcmahon had smackdown initially as the rock brand as the john cena ran as it was very different and it was on a broadcast network and he was serious about but once the channel got less prestigious and once it the ratings went down and it was a pre taped show and it was clear robbie came as priority but that structure is not there. So it's it's just quick triggered cynicism to say it's going to be exactly as bad as before because there are some very specific differences. Structurally that will. I think force. Vince mcmahon to do a better job. There's more at stake and less excuses to not prioritize smackdown and i think that is likely to result in some of the mistakes made last time not happening this time. Also it's years later. And i think there's some people in power including who have made annex t the success that it has been who can have some influence on the style and the booking approach. That's taken with the brand split now i. It's the thing that i've been. I'm pessimistic or negative or not optimistic. Because i point out how stupid it is to have raw versus smackdown with everybody on raw suddenly uniting to fight smackdown for no tangible reason when otherwise they're fighting each other to try to win a title. That doesn't mean. I think they're going to do it. I'm saying they shouldn't do it and it would be dumb if they did. But i'm kind of hoping that. Triple h and ryan ward and i mean just you know at cost ski and i mean that's the whole crew just are like. Let's do this better than happened last time. And hopefully the structure is there for vincent man to to have some good feedback and listen and just tweak things because to me having two separate rosters onto shows where we only get to see kevin owens once a week instead of twice. A week is so inherently good. I don't know how you can be pessimistic. The over exposure of the top half of the roster and the top third of the roster to me is the number one problem and wwe or or certainly top three so structurally. You're getting rid of structurally one of the number one problems which is over exposure over reliance on a certain smoker wrestler who are featured too often and fifty fifty booking. Now that gets cut in half it is so to me obviously inherently good that it's almost hard to offset the benefit that comes along with that you throw in the fact that it's live and it's on usa not pre-taped on some third network mcmahon has a great incentive to make it work. John it's the only place to find john cena. So vince is going to have a big incentive to make it work. And i think those incentives will lead to him not making some of the same mistakes. I don't think it's naive to say those are reasons to be optimistic about it. But i certainly am not putting my My life savings down on there being zero chance that he'll screwed up even worse than last time. That's certainly possible. But i think structurally it. It's it's almost set up as the good that will have some of the mistakes is almost inherent in the structure. So that's where i've and coming from on this for the past two three weeks johnny rich quick question. Yeah i think you're right. I think we get roman reigns on raw. I think they would get john. Seen on. smackdown I i i think everyone on the planet should agree that we have sammy. Zena one brand. And kevin owens on the other right. Which ones on wish. Oh i don't even know where. Where are you putting well. I don't care well. I shouldn't i don't care that much because i think that is just as long as different. Well as long as they're separate. I don't think it makes a difference. I mean it's smackdown ends up being a show now in this. This and i've gone over this in-depth on on vpo in java you know where usa network wants doesn't want an xt on tuesdays. The angry network executives want a brand extension..

Dwayne The Rock Johnson is Buying an Entire Football League

"For many of us, Monday nights sieve Longman, Monday, night football. So today's a good day to consider a shakeup in the football world. The potential revival of a would be competitor to the National Football League last week actor and former pro wrestler Dwayne the Rock Johnson with other investors bought a start-up Football League called the xfl this take some explanation especially to those who aren't avid sports fans. Let's start with the xfl contrary to popular belief. The NFL doesn't football is just had a monopoly for the most part for so long that most. Most people consider it an institution for the last couple of decades though rivals have attempted to build new leagues to compete with the. NFL. The XFL is one of those its roots began way back in the year two, thousand when World Wrestling Federation chairman. Vince. McMahon decided to build a league that could compete with the NFL NBC Cohen the League and planned to carry its games the XFL plan to extend the football season by playing games from just after the Super Bowl in February. Until late April. Now, at the time league owners, hopes were high that the Saturday night games could Wu and elusive audience TV. Teenage boys according to CNN. Vince McMahon. WWF had been almost magical in its ability to appeal to twelve to twenty four year. Old Males who typically don't stay home watching TV on Saturday nights. The xfl hoped McMahon could bring that WWF formula to football and win that desirable TV audience, and for one brief moment, it looked like their hopes were within reach the first game in two thousand, one drew more than fifteen million viewers a massive audience. That gold ring looked close and yet it turned out to be so far away as the season wore on audiences spell like a botched handoff after that single season, the xfl shutdown. Sometimes in life timing really is everything, and so it goes for Vince McMahon who decided that twenty twenty would be the right time to revive the xfl it launched in February, pitching the Seattle dragons against the DC defenders teams played five games among both players and owners. Optimism rained TV audiences varied by geography, but were decent enough that by March believe was well into planning the twenty twenty, one season. And then Kobe came along the League canceled the season March twentieth less than a month. Later, the XFL filed for bankruptcy sports writers added the xfl lists of other WanNa, NFL competitors who'd also tried to make a go of it over the years. The XFL seemed to be just another failed startup, but perhaps they declared the league's death too soon. Let's get back to Dwayne Johnson better known as the Rock Johnson actually started his career as a football player, but never made it to the NFL instead, he joined Vince McMahon's wwf where he quickly rose to superstardom before retiring to become an actor, he's now the highest paid actor in the world according to Forbes. With his business partner Danny Garcia who also happens to be his ex wife, the rock led the fifteen million dollar purchase of the. xfl. Out of Bankruptcy Sports Management Company redbird capital as a third partner. Johnson says the purchase was actually Garcia's idea she loves football and when the XFL declared bankruptcy, she saw their chance to own not just a team but an entire league not to get too grand about this. Consider that the salary of a single NFL football star say. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak. Prescott is thirty, one million dollars. That's more than double what the partners paid for the xfl which has eight teams. Still, the deal made headlines. Perhaps it's a bit of hopeful light entertainment amidst the onslaught of grim. News in two thousand, twenty, Garcia. Johnson. Say They plan to produce multimedia content for fans year round, not just during the active spring season at production time, they hadn't yet said when the League will start to play again.

WWE names Nick Khan as new President & Chief Revenue Officer

"Did you see the news of Nick Khan and I don't know how many people in our audience know that name Nick Con Heading from CAA to the wwe all of a sudden a weird. Just a weird thing to have happen is the pandemic is going to shift a whole bunch of things. I'm guessing next to nobody knows who nick is wrestling fans will now get y'all have an idea of WHO, Nikon. He's one of the most powerful sports agents at. The most powerful sports agencies CIA who represented many big clients, many ESPN, and now he's left for what he thinks to be greener pastures. You can make the argument as some in our business do that this guy runs espn that basically all the people that have been hired here and got contracts is because this guy makes money for clients. Now I left ca a while ago because it was totally soulless like it was just this shiny thing. I. Really had an experience with my agent that was like Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire, where he's he looked around, he was like. And I'm like, yeah, I don't want to be there either and because it nick cons trying to replace this radio show ESPN for the better part of years like he said, we were gonNA fail along and he's been trying to replace us with his clients the entire time and he hasn't been able to do it. But this move to the wwe out of nowhere when you're representing the, you know the power agency not just in sports to God's but. Ca like they do all the shining things when I was there, it's like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt and Surreal Shiny Hollywood thing and I hated it i. thought it was I. Thought was awful. Oh, I think from a business standpoint there the agency that runs sports and they're certainly the agency that controls the runs Hollywood There's no question ought to go from there to Vince McMahon to Vince McMahon to be president and financial officer of WWe of all places. Like that, that right there is oil that deserves each

"And your head whipped down and hit the damn desk, and did you hurt your neck? Did you get knocked out where? I'M GONNA shoot. The table didn't go down if you look at in slow motion came on edge. And then came back up the work place to hit. The sweet spot, right? It was moreover I had which you can laugh at it now, but I go to bed. But I had when it would come down from the small of my back, I had the biggest bruise you've ever seen over both cheeks, and it would come under all the way to the back of my knee. It was like when you look at it now. It's like Oh my God the amount of blood that you know that went into that right. But at the same time you know. I wouldn't trade either. Was the bubble I. Mean you you to get crowd everything? And basically it was a guy who who could work. Russell gun chain must Algebra at that point. and we told the story that need to be totally without doing a whole lot of you know wrestling inside the ring. Speaking about bleeding I got busted open. wrestlemania thirteen. But. The hitman Hart quick. Store. We walked into your office. And you know that night you know because of what the crowd was doing. Stone cold was getting better pop that a lot of baby face. He was working with Brian Pullman USA got wrestle used to tell time because God Dang. It Kid, you're baby face now would say F. You I'm a hill because I took. You know being hill very seriously and. The pumps were building. You saw the writing on the wall. Bread had been around for a long time. He's one of my favorites of all time, and he was starting to get a little long, winded and Pissy Mony, and so you sell the double turn there so we would execute in thirteen. We went to your office and you say hey, man. Here's US go down. There was only three men in the room. Steve Guys have a hell of a match the end of the day at the match GonNa pass out and sharpshooter and of story. I said well. I don't have been company. Give or take a year year and some I didn't have a whole lot of stroke. You know just come being ringmaster against minimum, and we did this thing, and so is it man? That's cool school because he's going over and so we won't get in the semi main. Main and I found out about the match sitting on my house in a in my house and San Antonio. Submission Match Stone Cold Steve Austin versus the birthday hitman heart. I thought we were GONNA stink join out because I'm not a submission wrestler. We walked in the ring. And Brett says to me, Hey, Steve and he was looking out for me. If you'RE GONNA IF WE'RE GONNA do finish like this. You know I? Think you need to be bleeding. And I said Oh man and A little about that and he wrote about this in his book and he goes. didn't have the stroke and he said if you want me to get it for you, how will I said all right man? I walked back into your office and double checked with you. I was cool with with going out like that, but I said Vince. Are you sure this is the right way to go about this match and you still got next Steve. I'm telling you to work and Chicago was my town I mean and they really took into the stone cold thing to this day Chicago's a strong town for rosemount horizon that building that way that thing, the coup six. Conducive to having a great match, and so all of a sudden out out the Ringo we had that crowd hook line and sinker, and all of sudden stone-cold bangs his head on guardrail. I come up leading like a stuck pig worked the rest of that match. You Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler colonnade action. Delivers a punch. Thrown a head over here and I spray blood all over lawler's paperwork. You still got the paperwork to this day from that match. What were you thinking with the no color policy and all of a sudden you've got two guys there and stone cold his bleeding his ass off for you. Matt than a Hornet. What were you? Because in your commentary, you say Oh, it's unfortunate. Things like this. Don't happen very often, but. Looking back on it. You know we all have to rewrite history but. I'm sure I was. A little pissed off. And at the same time. It's not about what I want. Ever it's about what the audience wants. I'm pretty good listener as I said before a- and when you're listening to the audience, and they're going crazy. You know because of this finishing because of what's happening now and you've got caller and so forth it's like. It's like okay. It's against policy, but listen to the audience. Look what's going on here. You know so a pretty good listener, so I think that you know from a personal standpoint. You know a company standpoint I was pissed off because you break the rules. The other hand. Not The audience, what it? He gave them what they wanted. Now, I I got four minister episode. Appreciate you. Give me a little extra time I to go back to the WWE superstar I wanted to go back to the WWe universe. Are you listened? Are you tuned in? Are you really giving them what they want? How can they let you know I mean? There's no competition. We're not throwing everything, but the kitchen sink Adam, every single Monday night like we were back in the day God Dang and the people who were the people at home. Every Monday night gets bad stuff. So we have control their own destiny, right? So what's the future for? W futures? Good I, think again when you look at television ratings. You know they're not what they were when we were competing WCW but were more than holding her own. We're holding up strong for television ratings, so you can't get better. I think it can get the action transition more to back and forth rather rather than a straight up formula kind of like a maybe shine. He'll he'd couple of hope. Spots, comeback, and in a Finnish now more segmented. Is that because you know? The world has turned into short attention span theater because that's what it seems to me when I watch. Think. They'll crush about that. You know again. It's like from you, know re we? You know we'll have conversations anymore. We taxed you know or tweet, or the case may be, you know so it is out, you know it's a lot of other factors that go into it but at the same time. I think that you know you have a short attention span unless you've got to reach the audience and when you're out there for three hours, you know can't reach all the time people tune in. They tune out no matter what is going back to football. Run back to whatever maybe you know, but nonetheless they're enjoying the product. GonNa get better. That's what I always want to you know. Make it better out of touch. No Am I sixty nine years old. Yes, can I take you to Germany? Kick Your Butt Probably. I WANNA. Ask You one final question. People, people could send me feedback much stuff to question to Steve Show Dot Com. How can they voice? What they want to see as far debbie programming to. Listen to the audience. What I listened to the audience..

"Won't you rock out house and you get that feeling in blood I mean means damn near like. something. That you shoot and you. Just as addictive, and that's what was when united stepped into the ring, and it was from jump, street from the start to the finish, right? Now you always wanted to be a pro wrestling. You always want to be a WWe superstar. How about that I liked? What you father wouldn't let you. Know! Okay, and then you got the announced job, which you I love your now sometimes over the top. You always knew where you're going. Because you own the company on the down low, you can't. Eventually right. But you always knew I'd love your announcing. And sometimes you could go off the rails with a little bit of hocus Sir with all due respect, God Dang I love you, but you know. We're sitting here talking to each other, but when you finally got to get in the ring with me, Stone Cold Steve Austin, was that when I mean because you're in front of a crowd, you always want to be a superstar yep now you are right. How was it i? Mean they'll tell tell me about your mindset once you got into the ring. Because all the years you spent in a business seeing the best ever and working, you know with your dad, a great promoter guy you looked up to. You came to know later on in life for it came later on. Because you know my, my dad said look I never want you to be. A wrestler. You can't do. Both can't be a businessman and also be a wrestler. So I wanted to be a businessman right and if that was real reason I. Don't know, but that's what he said and. And make some sense. Later on I was the businessmen not to that you know not that -CCOMPLISH all of that, and then you know. And didn't have to continue to. Just that there was an opportunity there. You know and it was like man. This is like it's always been my dream to be in the ring. As a performer and In i. have that opportunity and I'm so happy. That I took it because he's one of the greatest thrill some life and I won't. Find when you guys started getting me over stone cold I came in as ringmaster and I talked to you. Wouldn't you twice to meet with you and I knew in your head. You didn't know what the hell to do with me. I could be mechanic for you. And that was written mechanic, but then came up and you one time you come in me. The ringmaster idea sounded like a million bucks 'cause. I was walking one night a week in Philly with polly got. Know he really helped me out Paul, but anyway saw no I never had any. You know you didn't see a superstar in me and going back to the locker room and challenge this damn locker room to step up, go out on a limb and be creative and pushing envelope, because you need superstars, guys over, but back to you and me, and finally you know what couples stone cold thing and I started you know. Know, really ramping up and really getting over and getting a response to that I was getting man hours loved to work. He'll go, but I had massive success. Baby for any you know. We did the double turn wrestlemania thirteen, but what was it like for you finally because you had tremendous heat, and when you get the kind of response to generate crowd? What was that like for for you because it was almost? It's the thrill list. Let's put it that way. I know we've got a PG audience right now, but it's a thrill. You know it really is and again. It's understanding psychology right understanding what to say. When to say it, because especially using the truth, people don't like it when you use the truth and use it against them. And having that degree of psychology, and what have you? And the ability to you know to portray this character because understanding who I never wanted to be. On it was being the ring, but you know it was just. It was beyond a thrill. You know it was like everything from. And all those stars.

That's what it's about so you have to have fun making fun, and we still do I know which leads me to my story. This is one of these lustrous booking sessions at your swimming pool. You were the Guy Walking by this woman. Pull your son Shane pushed you into the pool. And as he tells a story, you were suspended above water for almost five seconds at seemed, hang time and a lot of four letter words boil out of your mouth. You turned red and you sank in the water. Story goes. The water started to boil exactly. That's not really the case, but. Chato chased him. Everywhere couldn't wait to get my hands on. A drove away. He got away. What happened is Shane. Shane is busy. He's doing a number of things. He's busy working in Japan. and he's got his fingers in a lot of pots. And he's a happy camper. And enjoying his family. Why did he decide to get out of the WWE It was sort of a mutual feeling. It's situation whereby. Yet talent, which could take other places and let's face. Family businesses are very very difficult sometimes. and. My wife was one time. Is You know in the business? and Shane so is not. We'll all get along all the time, but sometimes you know being a song or being a dad. It's difficult in business. You know and and war having your wife working with you. You know that's not a piece of cake, either so I mean. You have to do and then also I try to, and it's my interpretation to do. What's right for business? Did, you want your kids. Shane Stephanie getting the business because your father did not want you to get. Did Not. I wanted Shane and Stephanie and of course Paul's now working with us and. I wanted Shane Stephanie to do what they wanted to do. And I didn't push them into the business. You know they both worked. You Know Summers during the middle of school and so forth in. Any shame worked warehouse once we use the merchandising everything, which is a riot because one I think it was his second summers working at the merchandise. Any probably doubled is wage. I was proud. Cozy. Left. Left. Now, you got into business when Your Dad. His announcer wanted erase. Fuse, raise and y'all go on air. We've announced that we were in Hamburg. Pennsylvania where we used to do television every three weeks that in allentown back to back and. It was funny because. I was always sitting in my dad's meetings. A loved around my dad I, listened to him, asked a few questions. You know not too many irritating but I I was a good listener and I wasn't always privy to his conversations, but talent normally wouldn't be. But on this occasion in Hamburg Pennsylvania Ray, Morgan was the announcer, and he is best. Friend was the president of the after organization American Federation Television Radio, artist. I think he's still exist and. And Ray wanted to race. And so we're in Hamburg. Pennsylvania were about to go on the air. And Racism I I'm not going out there. Unless you give me what I want. and. My Dad had his quarters used to have a bunch of quarters in his hand. He played with a quarters. Looked at rate and say anything and finally said. I'M NOT GONNA. Give you the race. Got Up. And walked out. I'm sitting in. This cloakroom is where this conversation is happening. Singing, cloakroom and I'm seeing Oh. I'd had no experience whatsoever, not zip. And then he said you're going to do a good job. And but don't worry I'm going to give you somebody that's going to help you. If you run out of something to say then you ask this person to question. And they'll answer it, and it'll be entertaining. Okay pop whatever you say. So now, I'm starting in the person who gave me was Arnold Golan. Who is a wonderful human being, but I made a few words. And I would ask. Arnold Carstens and his answer would be yup. Or, NOPE! That was so after. Several weeks of that Back Buck, my dad has said Noah pop doing the Best I. Can out here, but you really need to give someone that can out here and it's going to help me, you know. I think but it was just humorous and entertaining to listen to him, so there are a number of individuals that set out there with me, and which I played ribs on and things about nature. I. Mean You have to have fun again making fun? I want to ask you A. Question. You won't talk about Sam Punk. I'm only for a standpoint or first thing. I I would like to do this. I would like to apologize. Sometimes and a big corporation the legal people don't necessarily know what talent relations are doing and conversely. Out and punk got some is separates. The only I want to say about punk is there been number of individuals in the past who have been disgruntled. said a lot of things about the organization. and I'm not going to wash the dirty laundry in public I. I don't think there's any reason for that I think there are a lot of things you may say that that he may regret one day in terms of looking back on it but nonetheless you know I. I hope that one day you know, we'll be able to get back together again. You and I got back together again. We had our differences. Right Hogan Oh my God. You know we got back together again. You know after ultimate warrior, and there's a listener long list and I said that's. What I try to do is to give the audience what they want. I try. "Just from a booking standpoint, what can you do to further his costs? Certainly. I the answered everything. I. Mean I'M NOT CERTAIN LIST? A lot of people, a lot of people's advice and listened to the audience. I'm not so sure I have that answer. I'm not giving up. Don't get that, you know. He's a great talent in ring talent physically I just. There's something missing and quite frankly i. don't know. I can't put my finger on. Exactly say okay now. We're going to write. I was backstage got a mill around a see you know a lot of guys walk around with pieces of paper. You've got a big writing staff we here. For Alive Television Taping and Back in the day. Back in the old days. They used to sit by your swimming pool with Pat. Patterson It was a two man process. And Jim Ross come by Bruce Prichard are whoever. But basically it was a couple of man show, and so, how did it get so complicated? did the world of sports entertainment. Get that much harder when I left because when I was here, you know there was a handful of writers couple and you're overseeing them. You kept. Those guys in check their cranking out some good stuff. How did this? Process so complicated, but as you were leaving, the company was growing by leaps and bounds. It went public and it's a different company today. And And things have changed. You have to change with the Times. So having a bunch of writers around is is crucial, because it's not gonNA come from one man, you'll know one man has the answers to all this creative stuffing. Quite frankly, it's not one man show. It grew into extraordinarily organization. You know with a lot of people a lot of talent. BE, the writers or executives, or what have you it's it's just. It's a huge mammoth organization. I can't do it all when I sat back. Look Pat Patterson the swimming pool, so to speak, which was a blast and poor pat. I worked into the bone. But as I do most everybody me, I but nonetheless you know pat and I would sit there for hours. You know and book and and write television and things about nature. Someone you know walked along wanted to say Hello Or came from the office with a message or something like that happened. We would normally pushed him in the pool right. At at the Nick, Balk, winkler, happen to dusty Rhodes. And look you know quite frankly and I love pranks. Is You know ribs? And the look on someone's face when you shove them, and they're in the air and they're saying to themselves. No, this is nine happening. I'm not really going into. I'm not really going. And then when they come up and he realized that they're completely totally wet, watched the whole deal. It is one of the funniest things in the world. This is this deed almost in show? Car! Workers.

Inside the Downfall of the XFL

"XFL was supposed to be the league that can finally make spring football work with financial backing from WWe's Vince McMahon in veteran leadership from commissioner Oliver Luck. The idea seemed promising. But just five weeks in Copen, nineteen forced the xfl hit pause, and then unlike other leaks. It announced it was shutting down for good. Today the inside story of why the xfl closed doors, and whether it could have been saved. I'M UNICOM'S IT's Tuesday June sixteenth. This is espn daily presented by marathon. Shaken. What's Shakin what she can not much some to you're talking to you Kevin Siefert writes about the NFL and the xfl for ESPN. So Kevin the last time you and I talked was to preview the xfl so excited about this new league time the rules and how funding would be, and whether it would work, and while sadly, we are gathered here today to autopsy the xfl the. League officially suspended their operations on April tenth season quote the uncertainty of the current environment, obviously referencing the corona virus pandemic. What was it like inside the League on that day? It was pretty wild. Actually talked to Kurt unsecure. WHO's the president of the Saint? Louis? Battle. Hawks and he heard some rumors he had wondered if the League would. Need to cut back in some way like many businesses, but he at most thought there might be some layoffs or potentially some furloughs, but when he woke up that morning. Like many other xfl employees he saw the. Direct deposit from. His pay. Was much larger than normal. Anyone who's ever worked in an office setting or a for a company of any kind knows that on your last day you get a paycheck for your salary, and also for any occasion time accumulated, and that's what that's. What happened here and that was really the first sign that he occurred hunziker or anybody. Really who worked for the xfl knew that not only were some changes about to happen, but. Some really ominous events were about the Kerr that day. And they found out. There was a going to be an all company conference. Call at about noon. And that's where they were informed that everyone who works for the League was terminated. Kevin Win all that down. The XFL was on hold like pretty much everything else right I mean the pandemic hit a sports world back in March when the NBA system. It's season. WWe Closes headquarters in Stamford Connecticut days later then on March. Twentieth six fell big flat out of their season, and said we look forward to playing full seasons for you, and with you in twenty twenty one, so it seemed like at the time the plan wasn't afford the league entirely, but just hit pause. Pick up when the pandemic was over. Why do you think they thought they could keep going back then? I think they they felt pretty good that in the five weeks at the season had managed to get through they had. Gone a long way. Towards proving the concept they had pulled in about twenty million league revenues, and they're projecting forty six million through the rest of the year. They're TV. Ratings had dipped, but they were about to go on a run of having most of their games, either on ABC or Fox and so, that would probably at least stabilized the ratings, and they thought that they would have for the first time since they had started building the league time to really sit down, pull apart their thoughts and come up with a better product, the following year Vince McMahon who the owner of the League he had pulled almost four hundred million dollars out of WWe stocks into his personal account to finance. Really for two or three years, and so they knew the money was there, he had put up about two hundred million, and was committed to paying another hundred and fifty million a year for a few years. Until they could potentially get the profitability, so there was. A lot of confidence that the money existed to continue subsidizing the League in that long term plan would not be sacrificed just because the season had to end more abruptly than they had hoped. I didn't know that so the xfl Vince McMahon rather was using wwe money to fund the XFL. Right away you know Vincent Man's the owner of w w well early state, the founder and the CEO, and so he had lots of stock, and so he used that stock eventually to fund the XFL. There was a division, a financial and business division, but you know there was also a shared services agreement between the two. Certainly the way they were able to recruit coaches and front office people and even the Commissioner Oliver luck the way they were able to convince people to come aboard was the show them the plan the financial plan that he had to spend money over the over those three years, there was public documents. That showed that the stock had been sold in that the money was now. In Vincent. Man's hands to fund the XFL and that's why they they felt so good about it. So the xfl like every other sport announces. Hey, we're going on pause. Then a couple of weeks pass. What was the state of play at the beginning of April? Really at the beginning of April the XFL was in off season mode. Oliver Lock. WHO's the commissioner had been asked to come up with twenty, twenty, one I jets. He had asked all the department has all the team presidents to come up with plans to market the teams throughout the long off season. That was to come. Everything was in the XFL. Offices were being directed towards this twenty twenty one season and a lot of times towards the twenty twenty two seasons well, they were looking ahead, saying okay, here's what we want to do in twenty twenty one. We WanNa make it better, and this is what we want and twenty twenty two, and then then we look to see if we can be profitable and this was all going on really. Really, in between the time, the xfl canceled season, and when it shuttered and had bankruptcy, and so those plans were all compiled, and I'll reluctant demand to Vince McMahon, and then they didn't hear anything. They didn't hear anything back, and they thought maybe it was because Wrestlemainia was going on. People had their attention there, but that was something that caused a little bit of unease as the second week of April arrived and that. They've been asked to create these budgets. And then there have been radio silence. So Oliver Overlook. Who was commissioner of the XFL also Andrew looks father for those who don't know and has been a sports executive for years used to NFL Europe who's an executive with the NCWA? He's going about his business. Assuming the league's going to come back putting together some plans, and then what happens. And then he gets a call or actually gets a letter on April ninth stating that he had been fired for cause and the letter came from. Vincent man and from the his attorney listing supposed. Infractions to his contract into his duties that Oliver Luck had apparently committed in his response, Oliver Luck in his legal papers, said he had never been told of any of these issues, but on April Ninth I, think about five o'clock is when Oliver Luck found out, he'd been fired. So what elect do? You know he is already in his home. In Indianapolis, the xfl offices were closed, and so he immediately got with his lawyer. Because when you get fired, because usually that can mean that the guarantee in your contract is no longer valid, and so he has sued for wrongful termination, not only disputing the reasons that Vince McMahon fired him which among other reasons, whereas the use of company cell phone for personal reasons which. Many people in the xfl on in the public to be an awfully little bit of a petty, and that's not even editorializing. It's just a fact. You know petty reason to fire sports commissioner WHO's making. Between five and seven million dollars a year, and so he not only is disputing the facts of what was in the latter, his termination letter, but also that the xfl never gave him the thirty days. That's required in his contract to correct any issues that ownership is having, and so that is currently playing out in court. We'll see who wins on that or whether there is some kind of negotiation that occurs, but at the moment Oliver Luck seeking twenty three point eight million dollars from Vince McMahon, who can fill the contract that he signed in two thousand, eighteen to be the commissioner of the xfl.

Every day is to put smiles on people's faces all over the globe and we truly believe that and then this time maybe more than any other in in my memory people need those smiles right now more than anything that's WWE executive vice president. Paul Leveque better known as triple h talking about the decision to move forward with this weekend's wrestlemainia thirty six. It's the closest thing to live sports. That's happened in a wild but with no fans permitted the arena and concerns over the safety of the wrestlers and staff. What will the showcase of the immortals look like in the age of Corona virus? I mean at times. It's Friday April third this. Espn daily Greg. You're ready to talk wrassling. Damn Right Excel it talking about sports with funny named people trying to punch each other in the face. Greg Luzinski is a senior writer for. Espn you can check out. Lapsed Fan's guide to wrestlemainia on. Espn DOT COM. Yeah actually I wanted to ask you think. Most people know your name from hockey. How long have you been on the Wrestlemainia beat my wrestling a Bona Fides? Go back to when I was a we child watching Hulk Hogan and the more cartoonish W. F. which really sort of capture my heart as you know through the decades there have been times where it's been okay to say a wrestling fan and then sometimes when they've you don't mention it to a lot of people. I think we're in an okay dimension it part of wrestling right now. We're sort of a necessary to mentioned it portion because there's nothing else going on and wrestling is somehow improbably still happening. How is this even occurring? Well the way it's been occurring for the W. E. and their competition. A W which Ariza. Tnt network is that they've been holding shows in empty facilities but for me that means holding their weekly television programs raw and smackdown at the W. E. Performance Center a training facility in Orlando and what they've been doing literally holding it inside of an Empty Gymnasium. I'm the game triple agent. I would like to personally. Welcome you to the. Wwe Performance Center now. This show will be different from anything you've ever seen before. Sit Back Relax. And if you can't forget about the world around you and let. Wwe Do what we do. Let us put a smile on your face to start. That was a little bit awkward because the wrestlers would come out and they would look to the crowd. That wasn't there and they would do all of the usual pantomime they would do to get the fans excited except there was no fans getting excited. You see it doesn't matter if there's ten thousand fans at their zero fans because this is how I I remember that can only way I could describe it as it's like when you're at chucky cheese and the animatronic band starts playing into an empty room. It's still playing. It's still doing. Its own thing. But there's nobody that Iraq to it and that was like the first couple of weeks of this and also they've been utilizing more space around the performance center lake attacks in the parking lot and stuff like that to try to make it feel more than just trying to recreate something inside of an empty room derailed. Me With that chucky cheese analogy this. It's the it's the rock afire explosion ban. Greg get it right. There's nothing better than being in an empty room with the rock afire. Explosion Band and just hearing the gears clunk together. It's jarring but also satisfying so wrestlemainia. Thirty six is happening on Saturday. What was the original plan for the event the original plan was to hold wrestlemainia? Thirty six at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa and this was going to be a huge event for those who don't know it's not just simply wrestlemainia. Inside of a stadium. It is an entire city being overrun by. Wwe events you have the Access Fan Festival you have the WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony. Where wrestlers of old honored and put into a virtual hall of fame. Physical building doesn't exist quite yet and then also after Wrestlemainia the next day on Monday. It's tradition to hold Monday night raw in that same city so this isn't just simply one event on a on a on a Saturday night for The city of Tampa. It was a whole citywide sort of celebration for wrestling as of March. Third The W. E. and Tampa's mayor said there were no plans to postpone the event the W. E. said look the health safety of our fans and performance of our top priorities. But we remain committed to hosting Wrestlemainia at Raymond. James Stadium fast forward to March twelfth. Now you have Hillsborough County's commissioner less Miller saying he'll probably have to cancel wrestlemainia if the. Wwe doesn't make the decision itself because of the virus pandemic governor Rod Santa's that points that cities and counties should cancel mass gatherings over the next thirty days and so it was becoming a worse than worse. Look for W. E. to keep wrestlemainia scheduled framing Jamie Stadium on March sixteenth. They made the decision not to have upwards of sixty five seventy thousand people come to a stadium during a virus outbreak and instead moved into their performance center in Orlando. It's a two night event April fourth and April Fifth. How has wwe justified or explained their decision to go on with us? Well there's the public explanation and then there's the assumed explanation that the public explanation according to the WWe is that it is for the fans the fans are the lifeblood of the organization it is a panacea the fans to be able to hold this event. It is going to give them some comfort in a time of confusion and trouble. It's also going to be arrested for the performers themselves who you know are looking for some direction or looking for some focus in life during uncertain times. And that's sort of the the public explanation for this. If you know about the wrestling business you know that part of this is the fact that story lines that are going to have their big payoff. At wrestlemainia are a month long process. All the story lines all the action. They all run through. Vince McMahon they are on one track. And they're going to stay on that track through hell or high water. These are storylines narratives that the W has been planning to wrap up in culminate at Wrestlemainia happens every year and then they kind of moved to new stuff after that so from a function process to have wrestlemainia occur and wrap up which are the signature feuds and storylines of their season. If you will was a pretty important thing was there any blowback to all of this. Yeah I think there has been some in the rest in wrestling circles amongst wrestling reporters and and amongst the fans wondering okay. We are looking around the sports world. We're looking around the entertainment world. We're seeing literally every pro league every concert tour Disney on ice everything canceling out of concern about corona virus and yet professional wrestling roles on as a weekly television product so there is a bit of confusion. There're two why this continues while every other facet of sports entertainment seems to have stopped. What about amongst the wrestlers did any of them have reservations about participating in this one particular did so wrestler by the name of Roman reigns one of the bigger stars and WWe had a very highly publicized battle with leukemia? He left in October. Two thousand eighteen returned to WWE IN FEBRUARY. Two thousand nine thousand nine hundred and he's compromised so news started to break recently through some of the quote unquote dirt sheets in wrestling. The ones who report the rumor. Innuendo that Roman reigns was not going to be participating in his scheduled match against Goldberg for the Universal Championship at Wrestlemainia. Wwe basically said hey look. This is understandable situation. The health and safety of our performers paramount Sakiz. The biggest name that we know will not be participating but quite frankly until we see what events they air this weekend we won't know who else may have decided to pull out or had to be quarantined or any of that nature because they're being very clandestine about what the card will actually be the first wrestlemainia. That's taking place over multiple nights. It's also the first wrestlemainia that is going to be completely pretaped. So when did they take this weekend's event and what steps did they take to ensure the safety of the wrestlers in the people working on it? It's been a race against time for me. As I mentioned the performance center is in Orlando Florida Orlando Florida. Recently issued a stay at home order March twenty sixth that really closed out all the essential businesses. Just like we've seen all over the country so the WBZ has been racing. It's time to not only record wrestlemainia matches but also record. Future television matches programming as well as far as the safety of the wrestlers. It is a closed control facility. Stephanie McMahon the daughter of owner Vince McMahon who is the brand manager for WWe said to variety. Recently there's extensive testing screening. When you first come into the facility regardless of whether you're a talent crew member or anyone else if you have a temperature taken and you have a temperature over a hundred point four degrees you're automatically asked to leave also any wrestlers de out of the country or in contact anybody who's been out of the country you're not actually allowed to enter the facility. Either so they are taking some safety measures as far as trying to make sure anyone exhibiting symptoms isn't allowed in the facility or anyone who might have been exposed to corona virus through travel or relationships isn't allowed in the facility. Which is you know what you see from other companies as well but obviously there's no way to be sure without Virus testing whether anybody actually has the center of city so they tape this before the stay at home order. Does that mean this is going to be the last big event like this or is this something they're going to keep on doing? There is a lot of sort of mystery as to how these wrestling organizations are going to continue to keep on doing their thing. I'm not sure what the regulations mean for the performance in Orlando. I don't know if this is GonNa be it for their use facility or not. I can't tell you that. Eighty w their competition with also filming inside of an empty facility in Florida's well and there was news this week that they're gonNA be taking their show to some undisclosed to record matches going forward so I don't know if it's GonNa be a shell game where these companies have to start going to the few places around the country that don't have restrictions in place or what have you. But it's clear from both cases that even though they're putting a bunch of their product in the bag right now in our taping matches and episodes for future use on television. The show apparently is going to go on

"Mean what if Vince McMahon could stop in and scream all he wants that events are going to try it at least with with people in attendance that events are going to go on yeah I mean I just feel owner you think you would you know show some sympathy for the public fourteen year old boy they say he wants to go and his father were taken because of the threat of the corona virus I mean I'm sure there's going to be people that will show up but I mean they're responsible for yeah as an owner and when everybody can go from being selfish in saying well that with everybody I'm just allowed it I mean why do you want him I mean that's just my opinion on that and engine just quickly on the Rangers and and the NHL is trying into so why would they potentially start their new season in September thank you the push it back they they could push that back yeah yeah without a doubt and Renee thanks so much and and keep checking in with us for sure and I was one hundred percent wrong about the Rossiter story could played at Siena I'm so sorry everyone out there who is probably screaming at the radio I meant well I knew it was like a mac school though what about that I remember and and I love that team Iona had a I want to go back and Ross do you remember this as but we might have been for five years ago where they were playing in the first four yeah yeah and they took on B. Y. U. haul and they were run and I believe a three or four guard alignment and they were leaving that game at one point in time I want to say twenty five or thirty points now I remember it very well these they collapsed in the second head yes they get out of that first thing I did not get out of that first war they collapse in the second half B. Y. you had an unbelievable comeback and I remember me and a blue member number my buddies got into that game gambling wise affect as a family and I was the one that led dad let dad parade I'm Thai Oneida and everybody was texting me when they were up by like twenty plus points and then after when I was getting ripped to the heavens with Michalak was at another almost market was another boost market Machado Scotty Machado Machado sure yes yeah the point guard on that team let's put it in the NBA did yeah he did for a little bit broke about we go it's mo it's the family's going tomorrow afternoon guide moves haven't built the first became active and welcome back thank you mobile Preciado buddy questions on it for a little premature but if these if someone's export please come and come back number one do you think there's any scenario that what happens is that any of these leagues would do any changes of these permanently meaning like the NBA would decide your life a good time to have the body July August is a great contest the final and push their season back the start of the season back with people one anyway by the Christmas do you think we will do that you know I think it's always fluid what what was it it was who one of the owners well actually floated that Ford that they wanted to start the season Christmas and just say listen we'll kind of get everyone when when football you know it's sort of but when the boat majority of the season I think they want to move actually February and say we'll start the NBA in February we don't want to compete with the NFL it was a certain owner that wanted to do that but yeah the league could always do it you know in conjunction with the TV networks they can always be fluid on that kind of thing one thing I would think they'll know that might happen is say of this right is it possible that for if the if the NBA comes back this year and they play the playoffs would they make those first couple rounds like best of five that's where they go by step three best of five three would probably be a little type of best of five well I think if you come back get fifteen sixteen games to go in the regular season if they say the hell with the regular season and start with just our layoffs I think they would still go with the old format if they decide to buy the rest of the regular season I think that maybe they might look at it a little bit of a different format due to the time to trade I'm sorry no go ahead that's my next question for the NBA I feel like I could just start with the players because I don't think the team back in the ninth spot in both conferences would put up such a thing because the **** the increase of the nineties not gonna win the finals anyway but in the NHL I'm very curious because many jail where we saw the need be he probably the best regular season team in hockey in the last twenty years last season I think that it's okay not to come back with the first they would have to play some regular season games when they come back to to the parity of the league yeah but then again ninety nine well it when the next one to the finals right easy yeah M. A. M. A. played what fifty games of the regular season here right I mean that was it I I don't I don't know when and how quickly and how I guess I would argue this Maggie how long does it take an NBA team NHL team to get right back up again because we have Jim Duquette on on as a while as I would have thought this was the baseball aspect of it and he brought up the idea that he thinks pictures would probably need starters that is yeah once you decide to get going again probably ten innings of work it is now ten innings now you can get all of that other one I'm not a no that's only what two weeks right conceivable three maybe two maybe two and a half weeks okay right you look at that as being the aspect what would be the case for the National Hockey League would be the case for the NBA now the NBA might be a little bit differently asking guys to keep themselves in shape as baseball players right now all remaining after spring training facilities and keep themselves in shape but I'm sure they'll do some simulated game yeah that work is not stop they can still call that place home they've not been banished from that but how long does it take an NHL if they determine okay we're gonna start up this time how long does it take them to get themselves ready set to go and be ready to go once again it's a fantastic question it's all out there these matters watch your marks on sep Davis gonna join us coming up obviously one of the big commentators on NC double a basketball March madness at this been coming into our living rooms for a long time doing that we're gonna talk to him next lusa Maggie don't go anywhere meanwhile our friends a town fair tire guys there might do that it's not fair to our you always get the guaranteed lowest price on name brand tires from Connecticut to Maine nobody.

What we want to see from 2K Games’ new NFL game in 2021

"The NFL may finally be willing to open things up to some competition after more than fifteen years of exclusivity especially if by that point. Two K has demonstrated the same kind of talent for football that it applied in bringing its basketball series to the apex of Sports Gaming. Lot of words there. There is big news though. This is finally happening yeah. Nfl Yeah Yeah play with NFL BUT NFL. Player's stats normal. If you ever. I know a lot of football games when you do your SC- nfl logo and then the NFL Players Association. Yeah exactly but so. What does that actually mean? What do you think that this resulted because it jesuits like games? Yeah exactly yeah totally but cool but like I feel like that's not anything that's really going to move the needle like the people that are the miss. Nfl Touquet aren't going to be like well. This is this is what I'm looking for. Sure and I think even while doing wrong it's great reporting from cement and giving you context this moreover e as existing deals they expect to expire in twenty twenty one. Nfl Season Right. Yes it does I have. I don't see what future in two thousand twenty one early. Twenty twenty two right. We're looking at where the NFL's like alright. Yay You've done enough time to open this up and we're going to get out of this agreement like Madden makes money hand over fist right. Why would they want to rock that boat? Why would they want to do anything to that extent? It is interesting to see it all shake out of the last twenty years where we're now at a place where We've been at a place where. Ea hasn't football and to K has basketball clear in some ways forced the best entries in their respective sports. I feel like this is the type of thing that isn't going to result in anything worthwhile. Yeah eating is just going to end up with Arcade Games. They don't care about that. Which like a playground was cool. I played it for a bit but like it wasn't. Nba St John. It's just one of those things where it Kinda just feels like a a lesser than experience. And that sucks. I don't want that to be the case but in my experience it has been And people love those games. But I'm not one of them. Sure hands I feel like Arcadi. Sports Games is something I like. I don't care about what players are in it like it to me just more fun about like. Oh just make the game fun and sure having the teams and stuff is like nifty. I guess I duNno was interesting about it is. It's been fifteen years and so I think this is a story that gets us as old people going right. I remember what a big deal it was when he got the rights. I remember how good the two K. Games were and how much my friends loved him and how Bullish Two K. Was about it where they what they were selling. And I'm GonNa Kinda funny dot com slash around. Come get me. They were selling the last two K. Game they did for like what like thirty bucks to the Fifty Bucks that Madden was twenty bucks to the yeah. It was like they were making hardcore moves to make people come play their game over Matt and and that was awesome exciting and it was the challenge of you know when you get when you get into a monopoly. You get very set in your ways right. And so I I hate the matters. Just update every year you know Blah Blah Blah Blah. Like I know how hard the madden team works to make madden as good as it can be every year but they are in a nine month cycle and so it is a lot of features that they start working on get pushed to the next year Ravin beyond that one year whereas if you had competition you had two teams pushing each other. I think you could see something really cool happy. I don't see that happening out of this deal I I mean again. It's been fifteen years. The people made the two K. Football Games football games. I don't think you've been grinding. That accident. Still at two K for that long. Yeah they moved on to the project of the teams are. The things are a lot of them. Probably work on that and I bet in so to be here now having this conversation. Yeah you Katie things. But it's not like you're going to suddenly see this resurgence. I don't see what they can even if you go out and your two K. And you kill it out in these. Nfl Arcadi Games. I guess I understand. Okay cool like maybe you've proven yourself but in reality it's going to be the NFL's and to be like cool. Keep making these things like this. And I don't mean this in a derogatory way but these games are gonNA kill on switch. You know. It's like this could be to switch out like you know. They have been putting a lot of support towards the switch but the game like Wolfenstein supper. Never GonNA run as well as they do on the show. The playground games can capitalist pigs. Gummy ESPN NFL to cave. Espn NFL two K. Fives price was twenty bucks that year. Madden launched for four for fifty bucks there. You Go however I was insane man. Yeah Anikin J. MT. Has An interesting wrinkle to think about Tim. Jeremiah tricks exactly. Nfl IT'S UK is coming back but won't be assume focused game. This has me thinking both man and the ww two K Games have felt both felt same year. After you're not really innovating between games. Eighty w all the wrestling has been very open about wanting to make a game and with the relaunch. Xfl being funded by WBZ's. Vince McMahon. It won't be long assuming the XFL returns next season until an xfl game is made could and xfl and in E W game if they're good games that sell well force EA and to K to finally put finally up their game in making madden an WBZ games to prevent people from switching over to newer better products. No I mean here's the thing there's going to be an XFL game period. Yeah if there is an xfl game. It's not GonNa be good. It won't be soon for sure and yet and also won't be soon. I I mean there's a lot of jobs here if xfl makes it to a second season does it. I've paid no attention except what was happening. Yeah and you're not paying attention still going on right. Yeah Yeah So I I don't really see a game on the e W side. I'm really excited at the idea that they might do the thing. The Greg Miller dream right and just like let's just make no mercy is with us but I feel right now. It is legitimately all talk. That game doesn't exist yet and it just kind of like talking about it. And they're gonNA William do existence. I I do believe that. But that's going to be similar to the playground games and stuff where it's going to be a fun thing and the people that are in doing a really in love it and there's a chance that if it is really that good that audience can be fairly large and it could be kind of a big head and got very well review if you could. Yeah you could recapture some of the Gloria and sixty four wrestling games. I think you breakthrough. Nobody cared not nobody. But the people you breakthrough don't care that's eighty w these cool down for wrestling totally totally and I think that out of the twenty dollar download -actly exactly I feel like that. Could then you know? Open the doors and push towards. Wwe coming in being like all right. We're GONNA make mercy to yeah. That could be a fun thing. But I don't think that's GonNa Really Affect Mad at all it's own level. It's like did this question kind of implies that Madden isn't doing well in reviewing well it is you know. Madden and correct me. If I'm wrong isn't facing any of the issues that a ton of the other sports games are over the last couple years of the micro transaction stuff being as ridiculous as it seems to be fearful or even NBA team in Madden. There that I that FIFA has has so many problems with but I don't hear people here. I'm sure anything with the station platforms. A has the option to be abused period. That's any game. So yeah that's not inherently bad. It's just bad how could be in the game. But the core Gameboy of Madden Games. Great Right. Oh Yeah Yeah I don't know hasn't changed much in the last ten years but it has. That's the thing is it's glacial and it changes in the physics move and this thing that and so it's like I mean I think if you looked at ten years ago actually played it versus you played and now I think you would be like. Oh wait hold on. Maybe I guess I'd rather go back on. Madden two thousand ten because I was a good game

"Been like with Vince McMahon we only have the one which was interesting we we we went in for a for a meeting to to to spend time with our basically with our broadcast partners ABC and fox and ESPN and they're explaining to to you know what the coaches that the you know what worked what they're looking for what they want from us and obviously what they wanted and they all said the same thing is we want to be able to pull back the curtain a little bit to let the fancy behind the scenes what's going on so branch then we came in and just basically you know cost you know said you know it was not something we're all going to be used necessarily but you know we got to work with our partners which we will and then and then the the biggest thing I got from that was his is commitment is enthusiasm about the game and then and the fact you kind of threw in our laps you know he said a I I'm going to help you but I'm behind the scenes you guys the ones are going to make this thing going and not you know not like those as bar you point out the first this is football I want to win quality football you know that hope all the people are used to seeing in that they come on the sea it's it's well organized it's disappointing and it it's at a high level skill wise and any students on you guys but he's on here twenty four seven you gave us he gave me his cell phone if there's a problem you need something you call me twenty four seven there for you but it's your responsibility to make this call it's my responsibility to market and promote it you do what I what I can't and he said no where before has it started like this where you we got every game on national television Hey what's a what is funny that is his second bad apples or tells you how the committee is to to the product but I can't wait to see for the first time when you know you have interviewer Sala reporters on interview you like a box like a box and manager while the place for now is this is it even going to come out and like do the introduction I know that you did you said I don't want to see anybody back here than those reporters those cameramen and old rivaling of cameramen just be quiet that they're going to be instructed when they can and can't talk to guys but there's no question he wants more availability and and and that that the you know the thing that he's obviously been and promotional genius about so you know we're going to defer to that and we're going to just focus on making a football go I volunteer to be a horse was Robert I'll be the guy just answers courses on asylum get out that would help us tremendously we'll we'll get a spot for you there said you are a nice with the guardian says the Tampa Bay vipers MetLife stadium in good XFL guardians dot com to get tickets I don't go to reschedule for a long time so I'm sorry but if you could choose right there's a hypothetical situation you can take over the jets or the giants right now you get Daniel Jones or Sam Donald for the next ten years or do you want who if you're based on that I'm not a good judge because I haven't been watching it as closely as I probably should have been seen bowl and it may be because I'm partial haven't been with the giants but the little and again I've only seen basically highlights but I I do like the way Daniel Jones I I he reminds me temperamentally is approaches professionalism white J. like in the light and that now you couple with the guy that's got some you know some legs that can run around a little bit which in today's football it almost you almost seem to have to do I kinda liked him but you know again I I I'm not really being fair because I haven't watched a a bottle when I was a bit of a plant close but we appreciate your input to get back to gradually shins the season opens February ninth good lock and you guys can go to XFL guardians dot com to get tickets and you can watch Kevin Gilbride coach Gilbride at MetLife stadium it's like the good old days thanks coach thank you guys Hey you Maggie a bar hanging out with you on this and probably could guess that he was gonna go dinner jobs I thought it was going to totally point on the fact that the answer dating you gave us a little scribble like you'll case maybe special teams is important at least you wanna find they will bark it takes so little to get like to read of your football engine if you like you just start talking about even just the small things little cover to just give you like a little taste and then you just write in co job little quiet that you're going to ask you to join the staff there's always more ways to win on fiddle sports book fiddle sports movie premiere mobile betting app it's for a reason they made it easy to sign up and deposit your funds they've got tons of betting markets unlike offshore sports books were you're lucky your winnings at all federal processes your withdrawals quickly and get your winnings.

"With a wrestling media guy's been around a long time. And, and so I think there's a lot of points he scored and now going to new Japan and getting some credit there. I, I mean I bloating the question up, but I think he's, I think the last month, he could if he hadn't signed with AWS yet, and just like had made an appearance one one off appearances. Let's talk about a contract in June. I think he could up as rate. Yeah. I wonder I look at the Jon Moxley characters being the version of the character that excites me as to heal and in part, because that's really what I saw in a prior to his WWE, Ron. Is he though? I mean. That may creatively be what he wants to do. It may be what envisioned him doing. But as he won over so many people with this, and let's face it. He was always one thing that kind of gets lost in this is that for all of Vince McMahon's, quirks, aside, from the horrible. He'll run. Dean Ambrose was a really frigging popular character. And then company they it may not have been. Would you and I liked or clearly what moxie like, but eventually did do overall a good job or people would have completely rejected. The character wasn't that like that twelve thirteen year old neighbor of mine. Dina is his favorite wrestler. He hasn't watched over to be since he left. And, and, and he's blown away that I interviewed him and the dean Ambrose it'd be characterization of the, the way friends framed him made him the favourite of this wrestling fan neighbor, will really dean Ambrose fan more than even WWE because there's no one else. He's picked out to be his favorite since I should say having watched to be, but he hasn't picked a new favorite out. And dean was made for some somehow some way he really connected with casual is my experience to just from, you know, casual fan friends that that know what's what we're dean Ambrose go there. People are really buzzing and excited about did Vincent van, or did Vincent Hance that or could Vince damage at enough to undo what dean inherently had I mean I it depends on the time, I think there were times when Vince enhanced it. I think there were times when Vince got in the way with his, you know, some of the quirkiness. Yeah, but you go back and watch them the things that again throughout the he'll run because it was bad, the gas mask, all of that stuff. They're, they're letting him dictates some of this. And so I I'm not big on the gas mask. But maybe it'll make sense in week. I just kept taking that approach to it until it became clear, like all right. All hope is gone. This is terrible. Whether it's Moxley's idea, ventures idea. This is back on. But I you go back and you watch the one that always. Loyd, the hell out of me was that giant hat one that he did. Listen to the crowd. They loved it. So it I hated it on guessing it sounds like he hated it. But it did connect with their crowd at some level. I think Moxley probably wanted to come off, as being a just different..

"The XFL with Vince McMahon behind it. But would he be worth it as a draw just as marquee value? Just put you on the map in publicity, generated alone. Colin Kaepernick is playing for the alliance or the XFL can't what big USFL because they tried to compete with the NFL and salary. I got you. But I'm just saying it takes money to make money. So if you could commit twenty million to call and capper Nic for the next Salas three years, he would put one of those leagues on the map. It would be between Colin Kaepernick and Tim tebow for who could do that. Either. One of those two guys very different obviously coming from different ends, right? But again, they those two could put those those leagues right on the. National map make them a thing in call cabinet should ask for at least twenty million if not more he might be worth thirty million to that league. But they're not going to be able to afford him. Right. Right. Okay. So real basically all the alliance can give you is football players playing a different sort of a different style and brand of football. Right. Right. Right. Okay. That's the game of football is going to have to sell because you're not going to be able to pay stars stars money. Right. And the thing is you're not getting stars. Colin cabinet would be the he's going to be the the most high profile player in either Lee was that work. Yeah. Because it's it's ironic, but the less Colin has spoken publicly, which is next to nothing his mystique only grows the less. He says, right? So his mystique is just mammoth right now your price skip. It wouldn't surprise me that someone would have given them twenty million dollars to get out there. And so they couldn't do it to try to make him look bad. So I told you all he couldn't play Cadillac you give me twenty million. I'll show you. I can't play because the going rate. Do you? See somebody's guys making twenty million in the NFL. I'm worth at least that well if you have skilled because how bad you won't skip this Cup..

"That was a horrible day. Oh my God, all those wrestlers we all up there three or four levels of reser big rose. You know, everybody. What a day that was they have you guys singing? Yeah, Lennon thousand dances and dancing. And so here also gear. Vince McMahon comes out and starts dancing, a ballroom dancer, like a, he'd been doing whole life like the biggest showgirl or something went back to the stage all the running jumping in the down, like, oh my God promoter. He can really dance. Yeah, you from that, how how is he? How is he pitching this to you guys, this is what you're doing, do your best or else? Or is he like, okay, we're going to try this or like how tired I was just telling automatic pilot over here. Do that, right? Yeah. It's like, I'm not singing so you can forget about the same part but l. dance. India. Everybody's in gear. Let me ask you this fast forward a few years to win when you had the gimmick of who, oh. I really wanna know nightmare that. What was what was that supposed to be? That was that'll wrestling mask. I think it was David boies was hanging hanging around the house for years. Of course. Of course by try it on, it's like, oh God, this mass thing. So I got caught in and wearing that thing and rusty in a mask is very, very hard. Oh yeah. You can't see the sides. You get no peripheral vision. Nothing. You know, you're looking at a look straight ahead or you gonna turn whole body of. You. Look at somebody like a turn, your whole torso look exactly. It was. It was it was a massive big question Mark on it. Is that what it was? No, it just was like these yellow mask would like read. Okay. With the question Mark was on the assets of the Thais, maybe origin. Remember any question touches yellow, but the name was who so. So maybe there wasn't a question Mark, but what does the giving of who we don't know? Glad that horrible gear off me. Horrible. So is this just because you just like you said, just kind of an autopilot, right? If you want me to wear this gimmick aware it. Yeah, you know it used to rustling in my my tights, butcher, top, and trunks. You know, because they're all used for support. And also you take all that shit off and used a little. Bill per trunks like God, right? You got the big abdomen at the big. It's not. It's not a belly because it's not fat, but you have a big muscle away could be than this thing right? That that's the mass we're just looking at it right now. It's a yellow mask of the red eagle sort of thing on it. There you go and you're who you cannot look at the way. I think there's no way you could breathe in that thing. Oh. It's real tight. Can't see our the sides it. Yes, but he's been around the house, probably smells of cat. Piss we had a diet. You guys died at yellow, right e. died. But then you know, when you when you were talking about the heart foundation, there was the original definition. Then there's the other version of the Hart foundation with the five. You guys when you're talking about Brett Davey Owen pill Mun in night heart, which was another classic team in the WB history. Yeah, that was that was a really good idea of them. Throw those teams together a little bit and in this series? Yes. So good that you go up. You Rozov offer spinoffs from that, you know, don't be like other pay per views are going on the road. I don't think spinoffs of the teams. Right? Is that you mean like we're like this guy like of the whole group of things like maybe these guys, like kind of like, oh, yeah, I think like.

"They don't know and if on the nfl i will always take anything that vince mcmahon does seriously because he does have a business sense of what is entertaining there's no denying that but yesterday that was entertaining you or was entertaining she was so subdued during this press conference at basically it's like here's what you're going to do venture going to go out there and you're going to make make it seem like you are here for the fan and everything that the fans currently dislike about the nfl that whatever focused group told you this we're going to go in the opposite direction and that does include everything that he stood for entertainment was but he did try his best on the opening foray he did tries best on the opening forward bring the old vince mcmahon back check it out the new xfl war kick off in 2020 and quite frankly we're going to give the game of football back to france i'm sure everyone has a lot of questions for me but i also have a lot of questions for you in fact were going to ask a lot of questions and listen to players coaches we're gonna listen to medical experts technology executives members of the media and anyone else who understands at loves the game of football but most importantly we are going to be a lessening fence so what ask that uh will the question of what would you do if you could reimagined the gang or professional football would you for instance eliminate after a time would you have fewer commercial breaks.

"One of the things that was disappointing about yesterday's i really did think the xfl was going to come in and make a splash by being a little bit rebellious splash and instead they went the other way vince mcmahon it felt it felt disappointing vince mcmahon as an energy and as a guy who is knows how to appeal to young people it may be vince mcmahon's greatest strength knows how to appeal to young people he went the other way he went the opposite of what young people would want never mind about the social dynamics are the cultural dynamics never mind whether he's gold for trump followers or not he just went opposite young people and it was disappointing to see vince mcmahon become your grandfather but he went to what football fans want football fans want this to mrs ribelli all new sanda porn an thumb might know at the end though they want the prodded on the field to be entertaining and go away yes but you think football fans want what vince mcmahon was selling yesterday us yes i know plenty of conservatives and football fans enemy were wait a minute later in wait we will wait because vince mcmahon we have sound here saying that this has nothing to do with politics or social issues that the xfl will just require that everyone stands for the anthem that was one of the selling points but here's vince big man in his own words i have no idea um roane on president trump will support mousse and and let me just an opportunity for me to say that as far as our league is concern it'll have nothing to do with politics absolutely nothing nothing to do with social issues either were there to play football we want really good football and i think that's what fans want as well when they tune and i don't know they want to be dealing with political issues and things of that nature they want good football that's what we're going to deliver his wife works under the trump administration okay but hold on a second let's hear this other sound here where bids.
