Fresh update on "vince lombardi" discussed on The Jim Rome Show

"No There you are. There you go. So that's been a topic joint gentleman announced his retirement. Great career Awesome career really good player, not a whole family, Not only not a whole family, not even up for debate, not even up for discussion. Give me that Be a short discussion again. I love this guy. Love is great. Love is hard love His work ethic. Love the numbers. You put up Nobody who was taken in the seventh round out of Kent State. Should have turned into a three time Super Bowl winning wide receiver all the credit the world to him. Let's not get crazy with this. Talk about him being a Hall of Famer. Come on. In addition to that, one of the more common questions that I get Yes. How do I break into the business like you? Rome? How do I get my foot in the door and work in sports? How did you do it? How do I do it? Especially now? Kids coming out of college with debt. The parents have thrown down a lot of money for them to get that education and it's hard to find good gigs. So I'm getting a lot of that more now than ever before. So if you're one of those people you might wanna listen up. Because I'm about to point you To an open position in sports, not just sports, but the NFL. Right now. Apparently, the Detroit lines have an opening for a season long internship with that team. I know what you're thinking. Hey, man, I just completed four years of college at incredible expense. I don't need an unpaid internship where I'm just some coffee jockey doing all the housekeeping that nobody wants to do. I'm not doing that. All right. That's fine. I'm not gonna argue to you that you need to do something like that. You need to start someplace. I'm not gonna say that because that's not what this is, In fact, not even close. His gig that the lines are hiring for is not just a paid position. It sounds like a really important position. It sounds like One of the more important positions in the building. Check out this quote, internship. All right. This is the posting on the lines website entitled Football Information Intern. I'm just gonna start to read from it and notice I said, start to read from it. The Detroit Lions currently need a season intern supporting the football information apartment. We will accept applications for this position and so April 16th and quote, all right, so you better get on it. You better get on it because they're not taking anybody's materials passed Friday. It goes on quote. In this role your sister club's football operations Department in evaluating league wide trends and players, specific metrics through data analysis, data, visualization and statistical modeling. End quote. Statistical modeling. The hell happened to fetching coffee and making copies. Is and getting doughnuts. Is this. The Detroit Lions are NASA. Quote, you will analyze large quantities of football data to develop actionable insights for decision makers. You will leverage internal information and data from third party vendors to complete various ad hoc requests from coaches and scouts. You'll develop novel statistical models pertaining to the club's football operations. End quote. All right now. Now we're creating novel statistical models. As an intern. Foreign NFL team. You're inventing things. Yeah. No big deal. I'm sure is a lot of qualified people for this internship. Keep going. There's more. Quote, you must have a strong passion for football and a bachelor's degree in computer science, statistics, mathematics or a relevant field. You must have coursework in statistics, mathematics and machine learning. You must have experience with statistical programming languages and be able to write clean, efficient and well documented code. Strong understanding off base. Ian statistics is preferred. Any previous experience in professional or college football is a plus, and you must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, home games and holidays and the quote In other words, you gotta be built Bella Jack. Why not? Just go to the Pats and say, Could we hire Bill Belichick? Who? The Who the hell is going to do something like that? Understand this also, I cut out over half the post. Because I would be here reading it all day long if I didn't, But I think you get the point. Detroit Lions are looking for a freaking intern to solve every single analytical problem. They have it in turn, and they want that intern to somehow have previous experience in professional or college football. And I can't bury Sanders. How it's like an internship. And you know how to write computer code to. Oh, you can't do that, Barry, you're out. You're not qualified to be an intern here, Barry, if you can't write computer code No, and you have to be able to invent statistical models and you need a degree in science and have I mentioned they're not hiring you to be the C O. Or the CEO or the president or the G. M or the director of scouting or the VP of football ops. They're looking for an intern. Insurance paid We don't know how much and clearly the lines do not value that person enough to straight up. Hire them. It's only an intern they're looking for. An intern who was like Vince Lombardi. Einstein, Newton Edison and Bella check all rolled into one. Sagan. And they want this super genius on the cheap. Without a long term commitment, and they want him isn't in turn. Who the hell could ever live up to all that? Who Who are they gonna find to fit all that? As an example. Josh Holmes Meyer. Who works for 5 38. Doing almost the exact same kind of football work, tweeted the job posting and road quote. This internship with the Lions is an effing joke. I've been doing this for 20 years and would likely not make the second round. Be better, especially if you suck. That guy nailed it extremely well, said He's been doing it professionally for 20 years, and he doesn't even think you'd make it out of the first round..

A Casino Chain Bets It Can Hang with the Big Dogs of Fantasy Sports

"The super bowl is this weekend. And the vince lombardi. Trophy is on the line but also on the line. If you're a fantasy sports player your money if you're not familiar. Here's how fantasy sports work you pay apu pick a roster of real players and then wait to see how they do during real games. If your fantasy wide receivers scores a touchdown and a real football game your score goes up. If your fantasy quarterback throws an interception and a real game your suffers and if you find yourself with a roster of players that just aren't performing well you're out of luck you're stuck with him for the season you can kiss that prize money for the highest fantasy score. Good bye well. At least that's how it was before you'll came on the scene over a decade ago both and you'll and its rival draftkings allow users to play daily fantasy sports instead of waiting for the season to end to see how your fantasy team does. You can switch out players everyday feeling good about tom. Brady doesn't you can pick him one day and drop in the next. That flexibility is what makes fan duel and draft kings. The big dogs of daily fantasy sports both companies are valued at over a billion dollars but a recent acquisition is throwing another competitor into the ring and this company knows a bit about hedging. Your bets the casino chain bally's announced last week that it acquired monkey knife fight. Yes that's actually the name of that company but don't laugh it off. Monkey knife fight is the fastest growing daily fantasy platform in the united states and with that acquisition bally's hopes to be able to square off against its larger more established competitors their first challenge standout in a statement about the acquisition. Bali says monkey knife fight is already doing that. He claims that rival platforms are clogged with professional daily fantasy sports players. Which makes it tougher us regular folks to win yes. There are professional daily fantasy. Sports players bally's though says monkey knife fight attracts sports fans and makes quote having fun and winning part of the experience. Another benefit of the acquisition says. Bally's is more customers. Bally's is a big name in betting and betting which all comes down to chance is very different than playing fantasy sports which comes down to skill. at least that's the argument. Fantasy sports companies have made to lawmakers right now only around two dozen states allow sports betting and for bally's that's just not enough customers but guess who already has a wide database of customers in thirty seven states where daily fantasy sports are legal. Yup monkey knife fight. The acquisition means more users in more states for bally's but fan duel draft. Kings shouldn't necessarily be sweating yet. Both companies surged in the third quarter of two thousand twenty draft kings monthly paying users topped one million and fan duel attracted nearly half a million new users that quarter. So it's fair to say that neither companies going anywhere fast because even though sports are a national pastime it looks like fantasy. Sports may soon be edging in on that

"Team eventually arrives at the lead, plays a number one place a bread and butter play. It is the play that the team knows that must make go on the one that his opponents know they must stop. My number One play is the power sweep. There's nothing spectacular about it. It's just a yard gainer, the iconic Vince Lombardi talking about his signature offensive creation, the power sweep and a part of what made Paul Horning a legend. In an era that saw colossal leap in the game's popularity. Paul Horning was truly the golden Boy of pro football. Ah Heisman Trophy winner in Notre Dame. And that's what's Ecuador doing, Annette Market? I rather have George McCaskey that sees the force for the trees than that. Jacksonville's example. Well, said 3123323776. Let's go to George in old town. Hey, George, with something I want. I want to give me the green light. He's been running scared for three years. I got the offensive line picks. They got the right guy at center, calling. You're in a good spot because they can communicate on offense. I'm looking for this offense to grow everybody stepping up, but I want that need to be on Mr Vicky's act. I wanted to be yelling at him like he's Vince Lombardi. If he's gotta step up, and he's gotta play like it's the every game is a Super Bowl for him from here on out. There's no coach like that of Joe Judge. Right. That's the only one that's like that. No, no one screaming at players in 2020. That just doesn't happen. George Well, look, It's not even be honest thought and he's got to keep hold them accountable. If he doesn't step up, the line is working. Don't disagree. The lines working absolutely, but it's a different game today. They're in it together. It's not This Vince Lombardi screaming at it. Just that doesn't happen anymore, except Georgia Jo Judge he's custody agreement. We had break that down, too. He's a He's a. He's a throwback, and that doesn't last. Well meon the NFL. That was the case, Parcells would still be coaching, but he maybe just trying to jump start a culture there. You could do it a different way number one time, a different type of people now, millennials a little bit different, different. It's not like Solon going. You're coaching getting after players. Correct my God, that mouth 312323. Thank you, 3776. So Anthony Rizzo will go backto work tonight. Fresh off of being part of a no hitter. Eli Manning and the Hall of Fame: The case for and against

"Ally manning thing announced his retirement on Wednesday retiring after sixteen seasons. He's thirty nine years old The giants quarterback who was of course supplanted by Danny dimes. This year but was a rock for for many years is now heads into retirement and it makes sense Meena In fact as a New York I all my friends are giant spans. I was on a tax change just the day before this news broke. And we're talking about that. Allies GonNA retire probably soon. Because when you look at the landscape with all these older quarterbacks on the market and what allies allies been doing the last couple of years. It never made sense that he was going to find a place to start games or perhaps he didn't want to be a backup. So this all made sense but still it. It is the end of an era in New York. I would love nothing more to come in here and defy I. I think what you all know. I'm about to say about Eli Manning I should not be wh- down calls US football cools right. Yeah I would love to say you know what guys you can't tell the story of football without Eli Manning which by the way why why is he the only person who gets that benefit say that about anyone else other than Eli. There's a lot of guys you can't tell the story of football without Aaron Hernandez put them in the hall of fame or if you want to look at pat super we were both. I mean they don't want any of them without dont`a hightower that's a holiday thing. Greg is compared. Eli Manning to know first. Ten Sahal Hyphen reductionist could be just one thing. You consider about a candidate quite well the few want ally in the holly. It's either two cases. One one is longevity. which is I think? A lot of people throw out. Because there's just too many guys who would get in by that and then the other is the two super bowls in the story thing. That's just not about how I would define it. It just becomes an argument. About how do you define the hall of fame. I think in my case against him has always been and yeah. I've been making this case for probably eight or nine years. So this is how long he's been average He's just been averaged entire career. Average in completion percentage yards per attempt. He's actually really way. Below average in the law of the interception categories passer rating these average. He's just for the time he entered the league to the time he left the league. He was an average quarterback over or that span. I I still don't like that being the conversation though when he retired. I we've had this argument so many times that I think we're just tired of it like we've said everything that there is to say about. Eli Manning in the Hall of Famer Eli Manning in general that. I actually was annoyed almost yesterday that that's the conversation when a really great player who was a big part of the league in you know no matter whether he was a top five quarterback no he never was maybe in two two thousand eleven. I went through it once. I think I had him at a top five quarterback one year top ten quarterback only one other your. Yeah that's not the hall of fame but like immediately the second he retires. The entire conversation is like the start of the public hall of fame. Talk which is GONNA be. Never any people are so confident about what's going to happen you don't I know what's going to happen becoming. We were like you know he will be in. It's like you don't know that I think the manning name like this is not a new thought but just that we've talked about royalty and stuff that he's sort of this. NFL Family fixture that. The people voting for this. I think they're gonNa Push Eli Manning right in not maybe. CBS voters down. The conversation depends on who he's against. Though you're really does. Conversation will be never ending for five years then going in. I'm sorry I don't listen you. Everybody discounts counting stats and cory will get too caught up or only point at the two rings and the two superbowl. MVP's but I just think there's something that'd be so if he didn't win those super bowls he's he's not he's not going to have him. I get that but there's something to be said and it's always been feel overlooked both on this podcast aspect in general. Because Eli can be a target. I feel like on twitter that the giants drafted him or the chargers. Technically but the giants Brought him into the team in two thousand four. They put him in the lineup in around October that year and then they never had to think about the quarterback position again for the next ten eleven eleven twelve years and I know things didn't end very well but they should have been thinking about it so when you're when you're talking about right ten years okay I'm GonNa say ten years when you think about other teams about your Brown's Mark My jets so many other teams in the league that go through constant search a churn looking for a guy and you end up with a stop. Stopgap and a rookie. You stinks and then a stop Gat and then another rookie. And maybe you hit on something. Like the SEAHAWKS got Russell Wilson. They don't have to think about anything. Russell Wilson's a better player than the but he eli for ten twelve years. They put him in there. He did his job. He was not spectacular but he was steady. You never had to worry about him getting hurt because he never did. He's the most durable the player ever. You'd never had to worry about him saying stupid something stupid to the media. He always handled that very well. You never had to worry about him. Getting into like a behind the scenes drama with with a coach and exploding and him being at odds and using the media to get a point across and all that stuff he was a Walter Payton Man of the year guy he was a total title. Good Dude and in those playoff runs. Then you factor that in for me. He rose up in historic way. And then just beat. Anybody didn't beat the Jacksonville. We'll jaguars didn't beat a Pittsburgh. steelers heat the Patriots and he'd be Bill Bell Check and he'd beat Tom Brady. And if if that's not something that should be given added points knowing who the Patriots are and what they represent in this era of NFL football. I'm sorry I disagreed to just kind of view that uh-huh yeah beat the Patriots. No he beat the greatest team of all time the greatest quarterback in the greatest head coach. I think that means a lot. His team did right playing. Okay Ah in that Super Bowl. I don't think he would say he had the best game. Even the play he's known for is crazy play. That could never be replicated. The two twenty eleven run is what I remember most fondly. Va Man. I think people kind of forget that won the last game of the regular season that they played it was against the cowboys and then the three league games in the NFC playoffs and that Super Bowl he had a collection of some of the most improbable. Low percentage awesome throws goes for five weeks. Stretch that you'll ever see Joe flacco kind of had a somewhat similar run any add little moments like that the year after they won the Super Bowl two thousand eight. He was really good throughout the year but they didn't win the Super Bowl because if eli manning they want it because of their defense I mean they wanna because of Justin Tuck and he learned of it. It's equally reductive to me to say. They won because of the argue he was part of it took to get into the. I mean the kind of connected back to the HIGHTOWER. No one's out here making a case for hightower you kind of do you. You like to throw this one in. I is the single most important outside of Brady and Gronk like the Patriots. Don't have this run of Super Bulls without dont`a hightower. I think I don't think belongs in the hall of fame but you could every all of the cases were making for. Eli You could just as easily make for like twenty other other random playwright quarterback a case you've made for you. I think is the case. Why he's a great memorable? NFL figure. It's just that's different than in. Our weather also talked about about it forever his position he was not a top ten quarterback. I would say for every year but two of his career. There's no one in the hall of fame you can say they've also said forever. You're in West. You've quoted Vince Lombardi on this that the quarterback it just the most important for a position or a position where the spotlight as and that comes with way. More pressure To it then dot high tower where his position is. I just think what you I was able to do in that spot in those two years is something you can't take away from. I and and say oh he was carried to titles. Because I don't I just don't see it that way. I think you've you stated the case very well. I think it falls shy of the hall of fame. I think if you're a jets fan like Dan or you're the browns fan and you've seen nothing but Ship wrecked chaos at the quarterback position. That the the idea that you would draft someone who would play as Eli did before a PR stunt got him benched you know. Couple of years twelve years of sixteen starts and by the way we are stunned. Got Him benched. He got himself well. That's fine but I'm saying but also the disrespect I just giants fan and you draft draft Philip rivers and he. He did what he did. But you get Eli Manning out of it and you know. He's going to win two super bowls in essentially a total ironman at the position. He's a hall of fame to a lot of giants fans I get. I don't think he belongs to the meeting. Early either reading a story just reading up on allies career. I completely forgot the whole two thousand seventeen. Rob Gronkowski set to retire from football after nine seasons with the Patriots

"But rob gronkowski will not survive in the two thousand nineteen oh that sounds really morbid. But you know, what? I mean, he posts a very emotional Instagram message with a photo of himself holding the Vince Lombardi trophy in the air with confetti. Of course, he says it all started at twenty years old on stage at the NFL draft. When my dream came true. And now here I am about to turn thirty and a few months with a decision. I feel is the biggest of my life. So far, I will be retiring from the game of football today. And he goes on to to thank Bob Kraft and Bill Belichick. He says my life experiences over the last nine years have been amazing both on and off the field. The people I have meat. I know he meant met autocorrect damn autocorrect the people I've met the relationships. I've been. The championships. I've been a part of I just want to thank the whole New England Patriots organization for every opportunity. And he goes on and on with few more thank yous it was truly an incredible honor to play such a great established organization. Eight able to come in to continue and contribute to keep building. Success? And of course, Tom Brady who does use Instagram and Facebook as well responded. He's always one of the first I feel like he either has people who are watching for anything that might be related to him even remotely or he spends way too much time on social media one or the other. But this was a moment that was speculated about not just this off season but last off season, and we'll see whether or not it sticks. Are you confident that rob gronkowski retired completely or do you think he'll pull a Brett farve or maybe he'll pull a Jason Witten? Either way. Do you think he will return? Every time. I look up on the TV. I see this. Montage of incredible rob gronkowski football plays. And also a lot of videos of him dancing, some without a shirt. That's what will remember about rob gronkowski that and the growing, spike? Remember, he's incredible catch late in Super Bowl fifty three with the patriots a three time Super Bowl champion. And also a four time first team all pro five time pro bowler. Nine hundred seventy nine touchdown catches. And some postseason records. So in sixteen playoff games. He had eighty one catches. "I think the goal of the coaches to keep your team locked in on the task at hand and to keep the drum roll the same others, a routine and a rhythm, we know all athletes coaches and teams have and it's different breach team at each coach. But you wanna stay with that drum roll? And that doesn't guarantee that you're going to have success, but you're more likely if you can replicate and duplicate and again basketball like life a game habits right as Aristotle teaches us, and so no better team in terms of basketball fundamentals and strong habits than Tony Bennett. Twenty minutes. Father. Dick Bennett grew up in Wisconsin. I used to go to Vince Lombardi's practices, and that's where he really developed a coaching philosophy. Even though it's an basketball's opposed to football like Lombardi when you watch. Their teams it's blocking and tackling his passing and catching its fundamentals. It's jump stops. Its footwork and pivoting. It's hitting the open man with precision right in the shooting pocket. Now, they're all fundamentally sound in terms of staying on balance not jumping in the air to make passes. But instead sitting down pocket pass fan the ball back on the perimeter just being solid ball security. They never turn it over always one or two in the country. And so that family tree from Wisconsin addict. Bennett's the bull Ryan's the Tony Bennett's. Not surprisingly great guard, Wisconsin, they all have very similar philosophy. So I don't think they'll be focused on sixteen. But instead the task at hand a garden people playing a cohesive manner basketball and defense creating their offense and and understanding and playing a game with an intelligence. Listen to Stephen for vox, Steve Lavin from Fox Sports. Steve thanks for taking the time. I can't wait for the tournament to to get kicked off. Here. We really appreciate you, really. "To win some of these arguments. So we're gonna have to lose some friends. We're going to have to lose clicks. We're gonna have to lose the mainstream media bookings because you're not gonna beat. You're not going to cost you a Cortez viral video that level of the depth of that propaganda. You have to understand you've we've lost seven arguments that video that they didn't just call out of the bullpen haywar desperate here baser loaded. Gimme a video. We had to lose like seven arguments guys before video like that could ever ever be dared aired in the mainstream. And so we gotta go back and win the arguments we lost before we even got to the point of seeing arguments like this. Do you see the point I'm trying to make? And so we gotta go to square one. All right. We're Vince Lombardi is first day coach in the Green Bay Packers. After decades of losing starting all over again, men is the very first words ever uttered. The coach of the Packers men this football. Right. So we need to do this. With the culture we had to go back to the roots of. This and it will be inconvenient to some of us because we want the polka dotted leopardskin. Yuna brow? Unisex that you can be just like that. And be conservative to. Okay. Because our great fear is to be constantly called racist. Misogynist, Hct phobic bigot. So we like our token spokespeople. We love those. All right. So that we can essentially pull the Archie bunker and say see, I mean, one of my favorite conservative commentators. He wears on his head in April was well, I'm not I'm not gonna appear it. That's kind of how we roll. All right. We're gonna have to get rid of dispense all that crap. And we're gonna have to be willing to make the fundamental argument here because the fundamentals are what are being argued. Where arguing we want to argue about the frosting on the cake. They are they're they're baking their own cake. So we gotta go back to the beginning. And the question that needs to be discussed in response to videos like that is simply how did two men make a child. If we are not prepared to have that argument. Then my suggestion would be and if it so be it. My suggestion would be then to leave stories like this alone and say nothing about them because the more emotion that you add onto the emotion at the base of the argument. Even if it's the opposite, emotional reaction emotion times emotion is what a lot more emotion. You're just gonna get more emotion who wins if it's about emotion the left they're gonna win. All right. So to me, it's real simple either. We are willing to take the dirt road and attack the premise of these arguments or the collateral damage. We take for attacking them at all isn't worth attacking them wrongly because here's the thing. You're gonna get all the same blowback, whether you attack the foundation of the argument or not you're the same bigot. Whether you attack the fundamentals of the argument or not so you Amy Conybeare. Yes. She might. Yeah. Mayes legitimize will be Amy Conybeare and not Brett cavenaugh in all of the. "In Englewood New Jersey where the great Vince Lombardi once coached high school basketball, right, and you to share it's the late great Saint Sicilia's a school, his closed years ago, but the greatest football coach of all time. Yeah, it is a tough thing for me to say given that all the priests and nuns of my youth would would have none of that if most of them were still around, but listen, Lombardi did it in a time that's obviously entirely different from today. The restraint of trade as far as player movement. Was concerned was a great aid to someone who wanted to build the kind of dynasty he built in Green Bay. You don't have that now, chick has to deal with a situation where you have free agency and salary cap. The schedule, the draft, everything is designed to prevent him doing exactly what he's done in Foxborough. So I think he has reached those heights. It's funny that you talk about Lombardi, but back at Saint to see is that they often spoke of him as just a great teacher of the different subjects. He taught school how great he was even at basketball. He didn't know anything about the sport, and I believe the priest who was running the school at the time when Vince was the football coach said, I need a recommendation for basketball coach. It was open. He said, why not me? And the presentment because you don't know anything about basketball, and he said, I'll learn. He actually went to the library, and I think he read Hank IBA books to learn basketball. And then he became there's a famous game in Bergen county, New Jersey history. We're Vince Lombardi holds the ball. There was no shock call. Again. Again, they're still. Shot clock. And is that right? Replace you would know that, but I believe it was against the go to high school. They were a powerhouse state powerhouse, and Lombardi held the ball and the final score I might have even mentioned in the book I forget. I think it was four, three or something Saint to see a one, and but he was a remarkable man in every way. And of course, if you didn't die as young as he did, he probably wins a couple more championships in Washington. He's already turning that program team around, but unfortunately, his life ended way too soon. I think Bella chick doing it at the time he did. It puts him ahead of Lombardy ahead of Paul Brown as well. And this is a remarkable book. This is a remarkable portrait of not only the you said the greatest football coach of all time. Maybe just he's in that rarefied air of maybe the greatest professional coach of all time for all the reasons you amplified of this era and the patriots dominance. And how. How much they've influenced the rest of the league in. And I always think sometimes some dynasties or great runs part of their greatness is how everyone has tried to emulate higher from the tree, try to try to recreate their program within another place and and it's and as you've seen with his assistance with others, it's really hard to recreate. We see that in the NBA with Gregg, Popovich and RC Buford in the Spurs people hiring from their tree trying to recreate it is you lay out in the book. It's a lot easier to do that when you have Tom Brady or you have Tim Duncan right to do that, but you spent years on this book interviewed over three hundred and fifty people for it, and a lot of documentation.

Anger Seoul of every once in a while he said his, haters became his me up his violence fit in well for this forty played in And one, of the things that was most interesting Bill I. Thought about his speech he was very open. Honest about his struggles with depression I mean he laid it out there literally during his rookie you're not only did he have suicidal thoughts he literally figured out how he was going to do it in a way so that his, wife wouldn't find. His body in. A horrible way and, that his wife would get all. The money that she. Needed and he kept imploring don't give up there is hope on the other side it was really a remarkable. Speech it's every year there. It, seems almost, every speech has a part of it. That's moving and eloquent and, and and it, was great I thought, Randy was terrific yeah I mean he was really terrific and his delivery he's a colleague of ours but. I mean his delivery was incredible and the timing and everything that the fact that it got through there at a reasonable. Amount of time and yet the message was so strong I, thought was terrific. And of course. Raise Ray everybody knew, right right right showstopper we were. All kidding about what. The under and over with that was actually he was going to say a lot a lot longer than thirty. Three minutes but I also. Think, obviously Bill, in the area of Jerry Kramer but. For those that are the, younger crowd it, was terrain who listened, to his stories of football then and Vince Lombardi that had to be an incredible historical and learning more. Absolutely wasn't I got a chance afterwards To spend, some time with its having been inducted I know what a whirlwind it is so you just kinda come up and a lot of times say. Right -gratulations great you know You don't wanna take. Up too much time but I talked with him and I said, I, said basically. The following Vince Lombardi and your, team even though I was grew up a, giant fan actually was at the a lot, of those, those famous games Inspired me to want to be in professional football and run to daylight was a re revelation for me. I was young coach you know I it just at a school and and and trying to. Make my way. At. The division three level and here was, this insight, into one of the greatest. Teams of, all time in any sport five straight. Championship exactly and and and he was so gracious you know he's thrilled to, hear that you know, I'm, one, hundred, to be with you guys was who he. Was. As gracious personally as. He was at the microphone but to hear. Him. Recite. Lombardi's values and and kids. Today and many goal jackets Yup don't remember that time there was a, lot of talk, about that yeah wow that's really something so cool what one of, the best lines I thought he kept, saying you, can if you, will you can if you took him a, while to, figure that out and that, was the way he closet you can if you will if you're willing to put in the work obviously one Of. The. Bigger. Stories was Who Wasn't There. And that would be Tara loans he became the first ever living enshrinee, to basically say, thanks but no thanks going to do my own thing first of, all I want I want to make, sure we're, clearing this did, you think Carol Owens was a hall of, fame player Well what. I. Think is not important it's the, voters I probably had some misgivings when you compare them to others. And it had nothing to do with his performance but whether? "I, well, we talked about this hall of fame group union trying this weekend in canton. Well, I mean, this is pretty incredible thirty one first team all pro selections. Most for any class in pro football history, fifty one Pro Bowl selections. Second moves for any class in hall of fame history behind that twenty fourteen class and six of them played in. The Super Bowl tied for the second most for any class. The stars were out in nineteen seventy-one, Jim Brown. Why? Tiddle norm van broccoli worship in trying to that class that awesome -cluded diction of Vince Lombardi, that was quite talented group there. So how about ninety three to genuine, offensive game changers, charge for back ten outs. Of course, the west coast offense of mastermind of Bill washed up. No, Larry little. They were also a five person class highlighted by sweetness himself, Walter Payton, twenty four team. Not that right, seven men class Michael Strahan Derrick, Brooks guy. Walter Jones Aeneas Williams fought Humphry grip that combined for the boost pro bowls of in class in his from the five of their twenty eighteen. Randy moss Ryan Lewis, Brian Urlacher, Brian Dawkins group was first team all thirty. One times. It's a single class record sell. We laid it out for you the best of the best. Do you think though this season this year twenty teens. The best of the best you want to. Look, I don't want to be a prisoner of the moment, and I always fear that whenever we're trying to judge things based on historical perspective, and I do look at this and you just said, like with from the all pro standpoint, you look at any of those kind of statistical things, and it's really hard to compare one class to the next. Like for instance, other with nineteen Ninety-three I'm just going to pick that because if you do look at it and you have Dan foul to never got the Super Bowl boat was absolutely game changing. When when it came to the quarterback position, Larry little played for the seventy two dolphins, Chuck knoll had horse super bad. Yes, Phil Walsh, receivables, Walter Payton, arguably in the conversation these for the best rate, it's high. So you look at that class and it's hard to say that that's not the best ever even if we look at this and say, just through Super Bowl, wins that low. That's right. Just through those that alone. I mean, it's again, you're right. It's it's hard to judge because some of the classes, Jim Brown class. I mean, Jim. We have to every every guy bardy was Waie tiddle. I don't know what those guys did, but another really good, but but if I'm I'm looking at it, I'm looking at the twenty two in class and it's because guys that I've played with and guys that I went to battle with and think about the Russ grams of the world Rickey Jackson, what one of the best outside linebacker play the game dick lebeau who we always talk about as an Claire, one of the best Cornerbacks ever play the game Floyd little of course. Jon Ranna inside pass rusher extraordinaire, Jerry Rice of all tie Guga goats, the real and Emma Smith all time leading rusher right? And God has three Super Bowls. I mean this this is this is a very good class. So I guess the question is like when you look at it and it's kind of like when you look at the older classes, which teams do I recognize because I didn't watch them play understand statistically what they did it. I'm not going to sit here and say, I've seen white. It'll highlights other than maybe a green a YouTube clip, but like so. So what I wonder is in fifteen years from now, are we going to look really. Sure. In fifteen years from now, are we going to look back at this class and say, man, look at all those names and we probably will. Yes, we probably will look at this class and say, wow, that does deserve to be in the in the conversation the best Lutely. Absolutely. I think this classes, if I'm pulling, I'm saying, this is the class. Only reason I'm trying to shy away from it again is because I'm just trying not to prison..
