progress yesterday and key differences The board say the league believes it's a union's turned off for compromises after baseball tweaked the latest offer The starter spring training games has already been pushed back to March 5th while opening Dan March 31st is in jeopardy of having to be postponed I'm Dan schwarzman that your Bloomberg will sports out there Markets headlines and breaking news 24 hours a day At Bloomberg dot com the Bloomberg business out and at Bloomberg quick take This is a Bloomberg business flash Well good morning to you 13 minutes before the top of the hour we update markets every 15 minutes on Bloomberg radio Asian stocks are rising this morning all the major benchmarks outside of Singapore are higher The gains are not huge They're in the sort of half a percentage point range You've got the hansing index up about 6 tenths of 1% The cost speed is up a quarter of a percent the ASX 200 rallied about four tenths of 1% Traders are weighing up the sanctions against Russia The sanctions stop short of some of the most devastating moves that had been threatened The U.S. did say though that measures could be stepped up Well in Hong Kong the prospect doesn't look too good It could be a lockdown like we've heard from Michael teen the lawmaker calling for a 9 day lockdown The government is expected to test residents in a mass testing program three times over the next month And now you have Hong Kong's biggest property developer offering to make land and commercial properties available to the government to help contain the outbreak Sony gave properties will provide two land plots in the new territories for uses temporary isolation and treatment facilities and one of those sites is co owned by Henderson land development Treasuries of fell mostly the yield curve flattened We don't have any cash trading treasuries in Tokyo because the Japanese markets are shut from three day holiday Australia's three year bond yield reached a near three year high New Zealand Central Bank raised interest rates the third consecutive meeting and signaled it would need to hike more bond yields and the currency higher and that is a look at markets And Baxter with news in San Francisco All right thank you very much Brian Yeah Hong Kong has announced its compulsory testing of the entire population in March will include three times three different tests And now Michael tan national People's Congress Hong Kong deputy and member of LegCo exclusively on Bloomberg TV with Bloomberg's chief north Asia correspondent Stephen engel says he's proposing a total lockdown for 9 days in mid March to go along with the vaccines And Steve is kind enough to join us live here It was a very good interview information Steve As I'm hearing he says a lockdown integrates well with the testing Is that correct Well yes he thinks the current program of compulsory testing that was announced by Carrie lam late last night is too long a process And he says mandatory testing without restricting people's movements is in his words crazy He's a businessman right He needs decisions made quickly and based on the facts at hand Two months he says is going to be detrimental to business He runs a business He's a founder of the G 2000 clothing brand And he says already before this announcement from Carrie lam yesterday revenue at his stores are down 70% And he says this extended process of testing retesting three times for all citizens throughout the month of March and then into mid April for restrictions of movement It's too long to just assess the situation He says that 9 day total lockdown would get answers quickly otherwise he says businesses won't survive Yeah of course This has echoes of Wuhan and he says that it is not that correct Right I mean look the word lockdown has loaded connotations here in Hong Kong It means restrictions of civil liberties It means an imposition of mainland style law He says that's not the case He says a week ago he would never have predicted or proposed a lockdown But he says the situation has gotten to the point now It's the only way forward in lieu of this two month long extended period of testing just to find out where we are We know where we are He says we're in trouble with 6000 plus cases reported again yesterday And Hong Kong university is saying daily cases could peak at a 183,000 in March That would mean four and a half million people would be infected by April having had the virus or currently This is a city of just 7.4 million So that's more than half So he says the projections indicate we need to do something a little bit more rash but short amount of time 9 days including two weekends which would include 5.

Riley financial on the line from Fort Lauderdale from us for us excuse me You're saying we're presently caught in a bear trap we did see the S&P 500 into correction territory Does it enter a bear market and if so how long until we see that I think we are in a correction I think it depends very much on what's going to take place in Ukraine and how far mister Putin is going to push into the Ukraine I also think that's going to affect what the fed is going to do in terms of interest rates and that's going to have an effect on the economy and the markets and it's clear to me that a lot of the appreciation type stocks that don't have dividends or have little dividends or under some severe pressure with many of my clients I use a strategy using funds closed in funds and exchange traded funds I follow about 70 and they all beat the American inflation rate the way I calculate that is I take the CPI index and the PPI index and average them It's about 8.7% currently So if you're making either through appreciation or through income more than that you're ahead of the game and if you're making less than that you're behind the game and getting affected by the inflation rates Mark one of the things I'm curious about is a point raised by Esther George before that perhaps the fed could be a little more aggressive on reducing the balance sheet and a little less aggressive on raising rates I'm not sure exactly whether that would lessen the flattening of the yield curve But that's the idea Do you like that idea It's an interesting idea that the questions there are where on the yield curve would they sell bonds and what that would do to the entire yield curve as you pointed out the yield curve today flattened to some extent with short rates rising and the ten year and the longer bonds remaining about flat but it would be a guess on the part of the fed and how that would affect the market now that would affect borrowing costs for both the United States government and for corporations in America All of this weighing into what we're seeing with regards to inflationary pressures to a new rightly pointing out the energy picture pointing into this We've got Brent crude options set up for a post $100 surge How much further room do you see in these markets and I guess what is the negative impact on the U.S. economy here if we continue to see these inflationary pressures The inflationary pressures are especially in fuel oil electricity and gasoline are quite severe they're up over 40% I think President Biden has made it giant mistake and restricting our own internal United States oil and gas production and I think it's put us in a position from being energy independent a few.
