"Softbank's Army unit. That's a UK based business. Let's get some color on that huge deal. We could do that with on a train in Boston. Senior semiconductor and hardware analyst for Bloomberg Intelligence. So on and first of all, give us your 30,000 ft view of this deal for and video Yeah. Hey, Paul. Good morning money. This is a fantastic deal for in video. Right? So you're expanding your ecosystem from being a graphics provider for Ah, PC video gamers. And a eye engines have you made for the data centre and you were expanding it to an ecosystem that powers all of the world's smartphones? All of the world tablets all the world to network devices, so Dramatic expansion of the ecosystem. Difference between in video and arm is that in video, predominantly monetize is directly through chips. It makes him an arm monetize is predominantly through intellectual basic building blocks that it makes. We are used by multiple chipmakers, some of whom are in video competitors. And and so it creates a little bit of a sticky wicket from a regulatory perspective, but Financially. It's great for in video and great forearm as well. Because we get are indeed boost. A zoo results the deal. What does it mean for soft bank? Was this telegraphed in any way? Yeah. For Softbank. I would imagine that this reason cash, Although the cash component of it is much smaller than we had initially estimated. Eso it helps them sort of going. Private ambitions. Air amplified a little bit. When the deal closes. We get more and video stars that get more cash, buy back more of their own stock, etcetera, and it furthers their ambitions They've held in video start before so Not like being Vidia asset is an unknown quantity for something. All right on and so your technical analysis of the regulatory is a sticky wicket. I bet if I spoke to, generally who does it for a living antitrust annals for Bloomberg intelligence, which he tell me they have a very steep antitrust curve to climb. Yeah. I mean, you can see that by the fact that you need regular street here in the US, UK, Europe and China and even without the so the U. S. China friction that is currently ongoing. This word dramatically expand the market. You have ah, sort of a neutral player being acquired by a customer slash competitors. How will they keep the entity separate? They would obviously have to promise their process in writing that in video will not interfere with arms licensing model. But the fact that arms intellectual property will be first noon to in video, the road maps will be first. Ah, In video will have first access to it. That sort of creates an advantage for in video that potentially none of it. Others appears customers competitors. It's better half so. Jen. It's probably going to tell you the same thing that it is a sticky wicket. Yeah, I mean arms customer there. Apple and intel. You know they're the hugest customers in the world. Arm will become a U. S firm. If this all goes through, How would that impact our relationship with China, given the China's still controls are in China. Yeah, So that's a very good question Money, and it was passed on the on the recent merger call that in video, unarmed hat. The team is that the intellectual property origination and is still based out of Cambridge on DH are in video intends to keep that asset as is and the intellectual property down muscle as this so Technically, it's even though arm becomes owned by an American company. The intellectual property origination is out of the U. K so Technically, according to them, anyway, it doesn't come from the pervy of the regulators in a more stringent banner. I mean, that's going to be a hard Hard piece of thing to convince the U. S. Regulators that somehow they should not be involved in that piece of the pie because in videos now the owner of an asset, so I think that adds to the complexity of this and then PM and talked about it, but China used has used M any sort of extended out the Yemeni Ah deal regulation for for extended periods of time. The scuttle the Qualcomm an Expedia if you remember So they could use this as a zone example. Showcase. Just show Okay. This is how you mess with me. This is how I repay you, so that could be one part of it. The second part of it is also A lot of arm they could squeeze out armed licensing deals in the in China. As a result of this, make sure that they have access to arm it because they're trying to build up their semiconductor industry. So Lot of complexities involved. I think Theeighty in months is definitely needed on DH. The regulatory part is definitely the stickiest wicket here. On a train in Boston. Thank you so much. We appreciate that a big big deal in the space here. The question is, Will we see some ordeals Vanni, but very interesting on a train in Boston senior tech analyst for Bloomberg Intelligence, giving us the breakdown on this in video deal for armed $40 billion short of face some regulatory Roadblocks, I think in many countries money That's for sure. But I'll tell you something. Investors are obviously very hopeful about this because in video stock is up 7%, which is quite the move upwards and holding onto those games, where we saw Orrico example earlier on, make huge gains and not hold on to them. Meantime, Jeffries is boosted the price targets to $680 from 570. Don't forget we're at 5 20. No, So that's a fill $160 higher than we are now. I'm so glad you brought that up, because that's exactly what I was thinking last night when I'm looking at this. Um, why bother? I mean, if you're going if you're going to bring Ah, White House official on your program And lecture them on DH, then shut them down and turn off their microphone and shut down their camera. Are you really looking for any kind of information from that individual, or are you just looking to make your point? Right? Excessive heat warnings remain in effect for inland locations due to this heat, and then finally, we're gonna cool things down a little bit as we look ahead to the end of the week with onshore flow slowly starting to kick back in, and that was K p x five meteorologist Mary Lee Case. CBS NEWS Time. 1 20 As television and movies prepare to go back into production. Love scenes could end up on the cutting room floor because of the Corona virus, pandemic, TV and movie producers will have to take significant steps in order to keep these intimate scenes. If they keep them at all for more. Now we're joined live on the KCBS Ring. Central News Line by Dr Daniel is Lan co chief infection prevention officer at U. C. L. A health and a medical consultant on the Cove in 19 production plan that was produced by Hollywood studios and entertainment unions. Doctor Thanks for joining US Good afternoon. My pleasure. So, Doctor, What is the plan you worked on say about how these love scenes will be handled. Well, obviously, as you know, Covert 19 is carried in saliva and so forced When there's an intimate scene, especially when kissing is involved. There's the risk of transmission of covert 19 So the plan says, a couple of things one is two considered not doing it at all other options to consider digital effects to allow you, Teo film it but obviously make it look like it's actually happening. And then the third option is really to test frequently, especially on within 24 hours prior to filming the scene, And as you may know, there's a lot of different test it on the market right now. It's still unclear exactly what the best option would be. But that may be an option as well. Test immediately before shooting. One of the first things that popped into my mind when I was thinking about this was, is it just too expensive on the production front just for a full quarantine of the cast? Well, I think you'd have to ask the producers about the cost. That's not something I've been involved in. But we're talking about potentially dozens, if not hundreds of people involved in TV and film production, many of whom may be coming just for the day or a couple of days and or not, they're 24. Seven, so it might be logistically quite complicated to try and quarantine everybody. Is it possible at all to really film the scenes that like we're used to seeing and keep everyone safe? I mean, either through testing or or contact tracing is that realistic? Well, I think there's always going to be some risk and the ideas to mitigate that risk as much as possible through enhanced personal protective equipment through a aggressive testing, etcetera. I think that this can be minimised, but it's of course not going to be zero. And you mentioned Tio special effects. I mean, in my That's part of the plan that that's a possibility is that I would imagine that's definitely one way that would be much safer. But I can't imagine that that would Look really. I mean, that it seems like that would something be something that the average person would be able to spot? Well, I don't know if there's any industry that configure this out in the creative, innovative way to make us believe. I'm sure it's the entertainment industry right now. You would definitely think So like you said, I mean, any prolonged contact is going to be challenging. Just no matter what That's right. And that's why the industry is working so hard on developing safety protocols to make sure that cast and crew could be protected. No matter what type of scene they're shooting. You've been taken part in that. I mean, has that been a long process to be ableto as you sit on this panel to be able to come up with ways to keep everybody safe? It's been an absolutely eye opening and, ah, something I've enjoyed greatly. This is like I said, a very innovative industry and they're constantly thinking of new ways to do this safely. Okay, Doctor. Thanks So much for joining us. It's my great pleasure. Thank you for having me on. That was Dr Daniel, who salon is the co chief infection prevention officer at U. C. L. "Can you get all of that? By going toe Money Talk radio. Three words. Money talk radio dot com. Course we hear a lot on the radio about guaranteed investments and many times to guarantee is good is the person that in the entity that's guaranteeing and obviously One of the best guarantees happens to be a CD R government, bond, Anything it's backed by the government. But also insurance companies have guaranteed invest was called annuities and were occasionally ask our opinion about annuities. And quite frankly, there are many variations of new teas as there are choices of ice cream at the Baskin Robbins ice cream shop. While annuities do provide guarantees they are fairly expensive. And they're also big surrender charges. So if you're considering annuity, make sure you do your homework. I'm not knocking annuities. I'm not saying you should or shouldn't get a new ting. I'm you say you need to do your homework. And quite frankly, I googled interesting enough this and you may want to do it as well. So if you're taking about annuity, Google pros and cons of getting an annuity real simple. Pros and cons of getting an annuity. The bottom line and annuity is a good way to supplement the income in your retirement. But you want to make sure you need that, for some people and annuity is a good option. Because it can provide guaranteed regular income payments. Certainly tax benefits and potential death benefit. So if you get an annuity, you get income. If the count goes down, when if you pass away, perhaps the principal goes to your spouse, so that's how it's pretty good. Annuities come with lots of different fees, and some thieves air fairly expensive, sometimes fees or as much as it has half as much as you put into you in doing so. I think annuities are good blend if you need guaranteed income. Ah, where your social Security and your pension is not enough. Ah! The key is our our intuitive good investments. We know they're proved provide good guaranteed income. You give up a lot for it. They're big surrender charges, but they do provide guaranteed income. But the question is, Are they a good investment? Generally, the answer's no. They have low returns. There's tax This is vantage is there's lack of liquidity as a general rule annuity for not good investments. They're poor investment choices. But again there tradeoff is guarantees. So there's a lot of advertisements about the guaranteed pension. It's sort of sales pitch by sponsors, and they don't realize the option. Of getting that guaranteed pension, many times or low returns there generally tax inefficient and it your money's locked up. You really can't get your money out because your money stays with the insurance company. And if you do are forced to get your money out, you pay big surrender fees. So I'm not pro. I'm not kind annuities. I just think forest people need to do their homework if they're being proposed an annuity. So what Say you, Mr certified financial planner for us, Vidia? I just say, take your time before taking the plunge and buying an annuity. There's never going to be a shortage of annuities and insurance companies offering them once you're in it, you're usually in it for a very long time. They're very difficult to get it out of I don't have a problem with including ah, an annuity in a portfolio where someone wants ah, level of base level income along with so security to maybe cover their mandatory expenses. I don't believe in and becoming overly excessive and concentrating in annuities. I do agree with Aubrey. From an investment standpoint, they're very expensive, the fees layered on top of them. Eat away at the potential returns, however, you know the reason why it is it's because it's a combination of insurance and investments in that insurance cost money and typically theyre going to guarantee especially on the variable annuity side Aubrey. They don't guarantee the principle of the ups and downs, but they'll guarantee level of income at some point either now or in the future. We often hear that term called maybe a writer and income writer. Maybe it's 4.5%. Maybe it's 5%. That is not a return on your investment. That's just simply going to be used in a formula to calculate your guaranteed income, so just be careful not to confuse that for the actual return itself. Again, folks. It's very important for you to do your homework. First. We'll get that looked at. Are you financially organized? Forget what kind of an income you should have with various investments to look at on also do that part of the year state planning. My question to you. Is you ever think about where the insurance companies invest Annuity money orders with insurance company invest our money right after the break, we'll come back and share with you. Some of those nine surprises but sort of a reminder. Many times, you can invest in similar kinds of investments. The insurance companies invest my and your money, and we'll talk about those as we take a little break here, listening to the financial advisor's going flip the mike over the new task in just a moment getting update on what's happening and work to return right here on news radio coverage Koto.

BusinessWeek. Jason Kelly Carroll. Master. Well, M you We've got to make sense of it because of you. And yet when you mew Mew Carol Master, let's bring in our buddy Did Morgan down doesn't know what happened. All of a sudden, I don't know what's going on with Carol today, Dan, but I'm going to turn to you to help save this show in this segment. To tell us what's going on with my crown because they surprised on the upside all around. Jason Yes, Carol. It was actually surprisingly better than anticipated, because we know guys. That microbe came out recently and basically said what to expect for the third quarter, and they actually beat that previous guidance. Which was extremely positive, But I think one thing that really the street is trading on right now is a couple things. Number one is that came out for their upcoming fourth quarter. And said they would do between well roughly between five and 3/4 1,000,000,006 and quarter 1,000,000,000 in revenues in the estimate was at 5.52 billion, so that's a huge beat. In terms of expectations for the fourth quarter, and then in terms a gap. They said 88 cents tens plus or minus 10 cents, and the estimate was it 72 cents, so that also with Avery Big positive and, you know, Jason, you're an old chip guy like me. You've been falling chips for so many years. And we know that micro in is really a great stock to look at to get a real good idea of what's going on across the whole landscape in terms of semiconductors, and I think that's what we really saw. You know, coming out of these numbers, Which is that things look a little bit better than maybe we thought, you know, a month ago. You guys, your chip guys, I'm just a transition transistor kind of gal. Just saying Certainly eight track kind of go. That hurts Jason really better. Dan Morgan. I do wonder, though, When Micron can give us some visibility right and surprise the street to the upside. Does that say something more broadly about kind of what's going on in our economy or they Kind of in a special situation. You know whether we continue to be in a lock down whether we continue to have kind of a slow economic recovery were right, Carol, So I think we can. I think we can make these generalizations based on this report. I'll just give some examples. If you look at their computer networking group, which is basically personal computers and cloud that came in a 2.2 billion that was up 13% that was above expectations their mobile unit, which is smartphones, right chips, a goat on smartphones. That was a 21% quarter over quarter and their storage unit, which is kind of just standard storage was basically one little over a $1,000,000,000 told a revenue but that was up 17%. The only theory that was weak Carol, which is interesting, which is you know what we saw in some of these other tip reports that we talked about was that they're embedded unit, which is autos and industrial right? That was down 3% on that was a little bit below expectations. So I think care what we could do is we look at these micro numbers kind of like a Taiwan semiconductor or Texas instruments. We could make some pretty good generalizations on what's going on in the economy and what's going on in these different subsectors of tech. And I think from this report, we have to say that cloud is still very strong. And I think there's still a lot of anticipation surrounding the smartphone as we've seen an Apple stock price right with five G and things are looking better than we thought. So I'm very optimistic. And And how does this track with you even outside of the chip sector because you follow a lot of other tech names, Dan Are you seeing some optimism? I mean, the reality is is the NASDAQ's doing great for the year, So I mean, there's this whole sense in the tech market of like nothing to see here. Well, you're right, Jason. And if you go cross and look at the landscape, it is an old hunky door, right? I mean, you just let in to the segment, talking about the continued challenges that Facebook is having right and we ask great ad revenue. Segment is going to continue to show negative quarter over quarter growth going into the second quarter. But I think what we can say is that you know, there are so many great pockets of strength and you know, we we talked about on the show before we talked about this. Data Cloud area being contained a very strong We know Adobe had really good numbers recently, a couple weeks ago, so you know, we start to kind of look through these various different segments. Participation with five G. We know that artificial intelligence is still very strong. So, yeah, there are some weaknesses like we talked about with Facebook and Google in the ad fraud and some other segments like you know, HP and Dell. Some of these old smokestack Check spaces in the enterprise. But then we flip over like we talked about in Vidia. What was going on with them and the gaming and in terms of the you know, data chips, and the data centers again, very strong. So I think we just got to be selective guys in our tech space and and really can't just make it generalization. And I hate to tell you, but I think the market is making someone of a general addiction with the strike there. We're having the NASDAQ right now. I think you're right, Morgan. Thank you, As always, for.
