Tommy was a personal friend of mine. I know the piece of furniture that you're talking about, because it wasn't Just a record player like your parents stored booze in their glasses like it was all hole, my friend. My best friend actually inherited that from his parents, and he has his house set up to hold on to it because I remember this. I remember playing Elvis on that. So you have a 45. You're able to play the 45. Then you take the adapter out. And then it had a little thin kind of thing. That opportunity that you have put the 33 the third album on so I would play I would play I was and I would imitate Elvis. See that song and me and good to lower go like this with the flipside of Hound Dog Man. What's the flip side and then we couldn't figure it out. I'll goes. No, Joe well, but well, thank you. Top of your head off the top. What can I say? What can I say? My old man, get the journal. I love it. I love it. Uh, In any case, I remember everything. Don't remember Cousin Frankie would play. Did New Year's Eve parties, you know, with all my my mother keeping one of 10, so we used that party's back then all in Bloomfield, you know the Brookdale section, and that's how I know all the Italians would come out right and they were so you gotta figure my mom's on the test. We had and said Uncle's coming all over and I would be doing Elvis to my cousin Frank used to play the guitar. I think my cousin Silvia used to sing. And then I used to do a little Elvis thing. It was like back in the day. Those were brought up with, you know, And then then all the family was in Belleville And then Nutley. That's that was my I'll tell you what. It was a great place to be brought up. It was a great place because the ethnicity was strong. All walks of life were there. You know you were true to your Italian American heritage. Hey, we went to church. I remember going to church and we used to go to ST Thomas's a Bloomfield, right? Beautiful church. Except we used to go. That was was once a school building. And then we would go in the school building before they built this beautiful new church And which is a gorgeous church off the garden State Parkway and in Bluefield and that, But we didn't eat before communion. Do you remember that? Some of you remember that you couldn't eat before you had Holy Communion? All so we go out. We'll be starving. People would faint in Mansell, the time member that remember that? People have gone down. There goes another one. And because we wanted you couldn't eat before Communion. And then all I remember is my mom's pancakes in the morning because she would make the pancakes when we came home. Oh, and then and then if you're Italian, you understand this A couple hours later, we have a big meal. Like already. Afternoon 12 o'clock. I just had the pancakes. I got roast beef lasagna I got we made those idea and I could remember playing baseball out on the street, right? And then and my mother. Go Joseph dinner, and it was two o'clock on Sunday and we all sat around in it there. God bless. I don't know how my mother didn't think about it. Think about it, But the families were strong. Then faith was strong. The country was strong that something that a missing that's why you tried. And then you and I we try to instill in our Children and grandchildren. It ain't so easy. Come on. We're going to church. You know, they don't go to church. And then who's gonna make dinner? You're gonna make them dinner. I'm gonna make them Then you're gonna make a round and then it was just a time back then where the fabric of the community was so strong. And I think that's what it is. I don't want something an old guy because I think that's what's missing today. Really, we don't we don't you know, we make excuses for everybody. So let me pivot here if I may about what's going on 10 minutes after seven cost your conscious going to join us as well, You know what I miss Jo doing? Great. He's just doing great on TV. My calendar is gonna check in Larry Elder. You know his film, Uncle Tom was such a hit. But you know what? Hollywood didn't even mention it, And he did it all on his own. You gotta love Larry for doing that, right? So we'll chat with the Larry Elder and Alan Dershowitz to the trying to impeach the president to try to perhaps invoked the 25th amendment, which we will remove the president. They got two weeks to do it. I don't know that there's enough time I just sold my buddy Ronnie. Kill me that glanced on Fox and friends this morning, and Brian was right, he said. You know the time for unity, and now they're going after the president. They Nancy Pelosi never says anything that brings a country together. Ever shed there. So divisive. What are they going to do when Biden gets it? So now? This and that this is where I want to go? Just for two seconds? First of all on the riots, which makes just a upsets me more than I could tell you. I understand. They think they're revolutionaries were going to go into the capital and believe me, believe me. They need to be smacked around a little bit that in Washington, but not like that. You gotta be smart. You gotta be. So what? You gotta win the election by preparing for the election that and and we got The election was stolen. But it was stolen fair and square if you if you will. Can I say that you don't say they went in. They started. They knew what they were doing. They smoked it looking those of us who were patriots. They smoked us. They beat us. They the Democrats were smarter. There were more savvy. They were there earlier. They got in there, and there's got to be a point where you and I just go. You know what? They were smarter than we were man, and they won this thing. Keep job. I think about it. It's monumental. You have the most popular president in the history of the country and President Trump. "I think a lot of some scouts think he should be the number one pick. You know, some executives I've really from canvassing the league. I think you'll hear a wide variety of different opinions. But You know, in terms of like two Dion waiters stuff like to meet Dion waiters. What? He was like six points a game as a freshman, right like it to me. At least Anthony Edwards was a fairly productive, You know, he had some huge games. The average 19 points a game in a pretty good conference. Eso. They're definitely question marks, obviously, like needs to bring in more needs to be more consistent as a shooter on those things. But I think a lot of teams see him, you know is it is it isn't comparing to Dwayne Wade sort of a code for very athletic, but not a great shooter isn't likely. I think that the the difference with with a lot of these comparisons, Joanie nail that is Dwyane Wade competitors. Victrola Depot was like an incredible defend herself made guy who had to scratch and claw. You hear That compares a lot, and that's where Edwards is much different than those guys. He's that's where you hear the Wiggins like. I think that The Wiggins. One prime makes the most sense, just as a guy who is incredibly talented can lot of out of bed and give you 30 in his sleep, But he just doesn't always impact, winning as much as you would hope. But in terms of where he goes, you know I would be shocked if he went outside the top. You guys have mentioned a couple of times. James Wiseman. Major talent. I mean, this is a guy that I've heard about for a couple of years and I don't track like you guys do. Tremendous size only, you know, had a whole issue about being eligible Memphis, which is a whole B s thing, and then elected not to play very much after he started. This is a guy that you know, in a league where we don't see centers being foundational players. This is a guy where there are some teams who think that he could be that type of player. So Goni. You've you felt him for a long time. There's a lot of discussion about him and leading up to the draft. What should we know? What do I need to know about James? Why has been heading into the draft? I mean, he's a physical marvel. 7 ft. Tall, 75 links fan measured a 96 standing rich. Oh, my God! He's incredibly explosive. Two runs the floor really well. You know, and he has some skill to not, you know, it's I mean, he averaged 20 points a game in 23 minutes of Memphis. You know he can put the ball in the basket. You know it was right office tools more than anything in college, but now he's got some free throw touch. Also, he's got great upside defensively if he figures it out, you know, I'm a little bit skeptical with Iwill just because I think his Awareness, you know, And I think the game moves a little bit too fast for him a times of both, you know as a passer and also defensively and so I mean, I think to me he's like a rich man's Myles Turner. I mean, that's that's what I see him as Um, I think in Ah, if this if you were in the 2021 draft, you probably isn't a top five pick. I mean, that just tells you how strong the 2021 draft ways I think you know, last year he's clearly you know, in at number three or number four. He's going to be in the mix. It's probably going to go on stage what everybody's saying if they keep the pick. Just because you can plug him into an MBA lineup right away, and he's he's just office tools. He's going to make an impact, you know, but I do have some question marks about How much value there is in a big man in that mold, and it's not as much of a knock on Wiseman and it's just it's hard to be an MBA center these days. If you're not, you know, an incredible shooter kind of a passer. You're not a defensive anchor, which I'm not sure he is and but he's obviously a talent and he's going to be a good player. Question is Diabetes, high blood pressure, anxiety meds, Everyone's on them..

"In the MBA Shams Terranea reporting that wizard star Bradley Beal will not play in the restart for the MBA season due to a shoulder injury. There were concerns about bill suggesting he wasn't going to play because he wasn't comfortable with everything going on with Kobe, 19 to begin with. What a shoulder injury. The Wizard's star won't be there. The Wizard's not expected to make the playoffs anyway. To me, it's that's not a huge idea. But he is a star. Victrola Depot being the first Bradley Beal being the second that won't be a part of what's taking place in Orlando. Victory Depot, by the way, hasn't played this year. So again, another justifiable guy not playing right like it's not like this is LeBron who's fighting for a championship. Johannes fighting for a championship. These air guys on teams probably not going to be there in the end. One who hasn't played and another who who's injured. So do you know when the deadline is where MBA players have to say they're they're tapping out or a question. I don't I don't know that. I think there was a deadline to say whether or not you're going I think Bill said he was going to go now. Whether or not they play because there's I read something yesterday that he was going to go all along, But whether or not he was actually going to participate was up in the air. So it sounds like the Seinfeld episode of reserving the car. Anybody can reserve the car. Got to hold on to the red. Keep the reservation. Yes, Absolutely. Chris Black Pap oil sitting in for David Caplan today, here on ESPN 1000 and the ESPN Chicago app. Let me ask you this pat. Are my eyes lying to me when I think I've seen the best quarterback who have ever seen play football and that that quarterback is Patrick Mahomes. I don't want this to come off as a a hot take because I've thought about this at length. I feel like when I watch Patrick Mahomes play football. You said it about what 15 minutes ago that we've never seen something like this on a football field the way Di Elice tickly. He brings something that we have not seen at that position. Now, if you factor in the success he's had on top of that. With not only the team being very good getting a Super Bowl win this last season. Personally the MVP and in two seasons as a starter, having 76 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. Am I crazy to suggest that He may go down as the greatest quarterback we've ever seen Play that sport of football. I don't think you're crazy, but here's I think you may have fallen in love. After a handful of dates again. It's just The sample size is not. It's damn impressive. It doesn't get any better than an M v. P on a Super Bowl, right? But It isn't a huge body of work. I I feel like you're following him falling in love after kind of a prisoner of the moment, so to speak, you know when when she's right. She's right. I mean, and you look at on the first site three point shooters in the N B A. You know, you see what Steph Curry did initially and you say, Okay, this is this is the best three point shooter I've ever seen My life. And then you continue to watch. And then it continues to prove out that you're correct. I feel like You could take the angle that it's on ly a handful of games, But if you look through the history of quarterbacks in the National Football League, they usually at this level, the best of the best all time. They hit pretty early on. Like Dan Marino in his second year was an M V. P in 1984 his first full years. A starter combined with the second year did 78 touchdowns. 38 interceptions and more touchdown passes than Mahomes. But he had more interceptions. Mahomes really took care of the football last year, five interceptions Pretty incredible. The one thing is Marino never got that Super Bowl homes already has That's Super Bowl. You can run through all the names. John Elway, Joe Montana, Brett Farve, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, which he is the greatest quarterback to ever play the position. Because of the Super Bowl rings, the six Super Bowl rings and in his 1st 2 full seasons as a starter, he threw 46 touchdowns and 26 reception. So like Brady. It took a little bit of time to fully click to fully become an M V p in 2017. There's only one name that really the moment he got on the scene. He became one of the best players in the National Football League. And that was Kurt Warner. Kurt Warner won the M V P in 1999 and in 2000 won And won a Super Bowl. And in his 1st 2 seasons as starter, he had 62 touchdowns and 31 interceptions. And we remember those Rams teams being so impressive the greatest show on turf. Really? It's Dan Marino, who didn't get Super Bowl. It's Kurt Warner, who didn't have quite the stats that Mahomes has had. Those are the two names that stack up when you look at the 1st 2 seasons. Off someone's career because otherwise you're looking at guys like Montana, who won back to back M v PS, but he didn't win those until his later later in his career, right. He didn't want those until 89 90 Elway Gun MVP in his fifth season, but then, when Super Bowls until later on, Profar won three straight MBPs 95 96 97. Boy his first couple of years. He wasn't playing at that level, and he led the league in interceptions in his second season. So you know you go through all the night names that we have in football history. And and I think we could stay at some point, you know, maybe at the end of this contract 10 years. Holmes may go down as the best we've ever seen play the position. There's no question he may. I'm not just ready to anoint him that right now. I also think it's fit. When you look at what Kurt Warner had, and the greatest show on turf. You know, he had Orlando Pace He had Marshall Faulk e. I mean he had pieces around him. That were Hall of Fame level players. Torry Holt. Story holds Andi, you look at.

"Because of these is things the music of the violins is more intimate more personal than that of any other instrument another another interesting fact concerning the violin is that while almost all other instruments have been approved upon the file and alone has undergone no change and no improvement since Stratovarius put by the last violin he was to make it talk about seventeen thirty seven and so the Phya land may be regarded as the one accomplishment of human craftsmanship that has reached perfection. Perhaps it is because of these things that file in music occupies a quite unique place in human experience. There is nothing more deeply thrilling than the violence low pitched cheese training uh nothing quite so light hearted and ferry like as the e string with such a range from grave to gay hey there is never a human mood nor emotion but what the violin can reach and express it more keenly than any other single ingo instrument and in the form in which we have it today it has been the scherer of our joys and sorrows for more than two hundred years consciously or unconsciously we feel the need some standard of comparison some sort of yardstick by which we measure human achievements and this seems to be especially so in all instrumental music no one would have any very serious difficulty in telling why he found enjoyment mint or dissatisfaction in the recitation of a poem but it is just as easy to pass judgment on the playing of a Violin Solo the annunciation of the words and their pronunciation the intelligible or muddled treatment of the phrases the use of pauses the pitch of the voice and it's dramatic shading would all have something to do with your opinion of recitation and those are much the same standards by which the technical and interpretive skill of the violinist are to be determined the performances good or bad depending on how well or L. IT meets much the same requirements that you would impose upon the reader leader of the recitation.

"As a working nucleus the following selection of double faced records may be welcome to those who are beginning to form Ormoc Election Aida Grand March and Rondo Capriccio Priscilla's band lights out and Washington Post Victor Military Band Stars and Stripes forever and fairest of the Affair Sousa's band Chopin's funeral march and Kuchis a Nema Pryor's band and Marsova Waltz and Amina United States Marine band and Pryor's Band mm-hmm chamber music when you hear a file and so how played with lots of double stopping you find the the air develops. A new richness of tone color for the violinist is playing the air notes at certain other harmony notes at the same time. This is substantially what happens in the court tents and Trios one instrument tournament or voice plays or sings the air while the others play or sing harmony parnes and in the smaller groups of instruments intruments where there are only three or four parts it is easier to follow the work of each instrument and consequently it. It is easier to get the musical pattern of the selection. The basis of chamber music is the string quartet comprising two two violins viola and cello. These instruments are of course alike in character but each has its own own peculiar quality of tone other effective combinations are firemen Cello Piano Flute Violin Alan Cello and piano and additional instruments heard with the string quartet it would be a mistake however to think of the string string quartet as being elementary for it is one of the richest and most satisfying branches of musical art a special interest attached to all the smaller combinations of strings and the victor catalog contains many selections by by such small combinations among which the following are perhaps worthy of special attention. The mendelssohn CANS ANNETTA The quartet in g major the minuet of book Greeny and Tchaikovsky's on Dante contact delay.

"There are some concert pieces with which every concert goer or is assumed to be familiar so there are certain operas which form a basis for discussion among well informed music lovers and these are faust Il trovatore when I eat a Madam Butterfly La Boheme Lucia Rigoletto Tannhaeuser low and Grin Low Tosca Don Giovanni Calera Rusticana I pol yet gene and Carmen there are many more which constitute part of the regular well her operatic repertoire but to have a well established viewpoint on these is to be capable of passing judgment on the rest the victory Rolla which permits one to repeat some Aria do trio chorus or whatever it may be at will of Ford's an infinitely better opportunity to develop a discriminating taste in such matters then can be had by systematic attendance at grand the opera performances which obviously is quite impossible for the majority of music lovers the keenest enjoyment madoff grand opera music or for that matter any other kind of music comes to those who listen to it with some sort of definite conception conception as to what it is all about and the methods employed by the composer and the artists in telling the story grand opera is drama done in music instead of spoken words in a novel. The author makes his characters. I do their own talking. He also describes what they do and how they are dressed but more than that he devotes pages ages to telling you what they thought he tells you of the mental struggles that caused them to do or to refrain from doing it might not be amiss to say that this is substantially what the orchestra does in Grand Opera and so there is much more to listen into the sides the song itself the song itself and the purport of it must be understood if one is to get the greatest amount of enjoyment out of it play Celeste Aida for instance to someone who knows nothing of the opera WPRO the sheer malady Ovett will make an unquestionable appeal but that appeal is ten times more vivid when one yeah no 's who heavenly is and why her roic lover bursts into song opera is drama that must always be borne in mind and the test of good operatic music is that the music shall illustrate accurately accurately forcefully beautifully not the facs but the mental conditions and the emotions of the spirit which are sought to be portrayed the facts are taken care of by the action of the plot just as they are on the dramatic stage and over and above the satisfaction derived from listening to the music there is a delightful and limitless exercise for the intellect act in seeing with what amazing subtleties of sound the composer has sketched the spiritual struggles of Thais or the toreador toreador. Most people love opera for the two that are in it and broadly speaking there are two kinds kinds of tunes used in opera the dramatic Aria and that Bravo Era Aria a dramatic Aria such such as unbound eve turmoil for Madam Butterfly is a lyrical outburst of intensely emotional character arising naturally from the dramatic situation up referral Aria is simply a focal display peace..

"Of all impressions are those we receive I and so we would urge with all earnestness that your our first selection of records should contain at least some of the world's big music art is art no matter what form it may take and those who are sincere in their musical opinions while no more despise the lighter and more Popular Music Jake then they will despise good music which is the product of other kinds of feeling and rhythms in certain moods roots and at certain times there is this much inspiration to be derived from ragtime as there is from a Beethoven symphony or the thunderous under his emotions of a great opera each produces its effect in its own way and each supplies a very real human need but because they are so different in the form of their appeal they need to be treated somewhat differently. The fact of the matter is that popular music is usually built up on one of a few well recognized formulae it does what so you expected to do not consciously but by association we have learned to accept certain patterns in music as as we have learned to expect certain patterns in close since there is nothing essentially different in any of them they are easy to learn and so easy to get tired of there is however a very real pleasure in picking up the tune for a few days. We are quite happy whistling or singing the new song but once the new Popular Song is learned then what your own experience will tell you and that is why we urge that in your first collection of records you secure a number of the classics a six or semi classics with which you are familiar familiar that is precisely the point the door Thomas One said that popular music was familiar music and that is the unassailable truth a Beethoven Symphony. Anthony may be as popular as the Rosary when enough people have become as familiar with it and yet it may be a classic of the classics Wchs Parenthetically it might be set at this point that for those who do not sing or play the Victoria is by far the quickest first and simplest medium through which to pick up the new music to illustrate by a concrete example so long letty or tipperary keep a family full to the brim with bright pleasant joyful motions for quite some little time I am it may be days or weeks. It might even be months but clements record of the bear sues from Jocelyn then Elman's record of the Schubert's Ave Maria or any one of a thousand we might mention while smooth the wrinkles from your brow the triple furrows from your mind ten years from today as surely as they will now when the music of all the world is at your disposal it is almost impossible to refrain from bathing heart and soul and body and but remember that to become saturated with anything is to lose the fine edge of enjoyment with too frequent sequent hues the most valuable remedy may lose its healing virtues definite measurable physical effects could be produced by music and the gist of the matter is that one should become familiar enough with music to understand and enjoy it it but never familiar enough to induce the loss of it's a fact here it when you need to hear it and it will will continue to be a thing of joy not for days or weeks off through the years personal taste varies more or perhaps in music than in any other art but in a general way it follows much the same broad channels and in in any case the victor record catalogue since it actually does contain almost all the music of the world by the world's greatest experience of musical art is a treasure house of untold satisfaction and keeps the whitest possible scope for personnel selection. The Victoria is not one instrument but all of them it is a voice choice a violin a trombone or a symphony orchestra according to your will and in making a selection off-record full advantage should be taken of this most extraordinary privilege making up a troll program. I'm for the entertainment of friends calls for just the same variety and emotional balance as the professional musician strives to introduce into his own programs but in this you as your own concert manager enjoy a degree of latitude holy holy beyond the reach of any single artist and any manager for Africa branch of Music every type of music music and every medium of musical expression may be brought into play by the simple expedient of having a sufficiently the barge and sufficiently varied collection of records in giving operatic programs or in playing operatic records occurred for your own satisfaction the Victoria Book of the opera we'll be an added source of pleasure and satisfaction Ford affords. It's a clear concise understanding off all the well known operas both is to music plot and dramatic action so then to the pleasure derived from operatic records may be similarly heightened by listening to the music with a libretto which gives the foreign words used by the singer and an English translation of them. Those who are unskilled in languages usually experienced experienced some difficulty in pronouncing the names of composers artists operas and Opera Characters and there is an undeniable satisfaction satisifaction in being able to pronounce such words correctly.
