"Was successful. Now Vic Vaughn. Has has embarked on a journey that I think, has become greater than the sum of any of the parts, he thought it might be and, and Vic are you there? Yes. So I think this is really cool. I know that for the listeners what it is that he is doing is he is taking some of the, the recognized sort of greatest albums of all time. And he'll be able to describe exactly where that list comes from and what kind of things are on it, and is taking the time to sit down and listen. Not only the songs, maybe one or two hit songs that maybe someone maybe everyone could be familiar with, but the band and that specific album as, as kind of one collective work of art. I'm not sure that, that always happens anymore now, especially with the way that music is distributed, and so much emphasis on singles where in the past, and for some of these iconic bands, and albums the entire album, kind of goes together in a certain way and was really thoughtfully produced by those vans. And so they give a little background snapshot into into what it is that you're doing and why you decided to do it. Well, ritually just, just wanted to put it into this, you know, because I just didn't really know what to say when the conversation. Return to music. I know I'm always going to be the dumb one in the room because I just didn't put a lot of priority on music growing up. And so I decided to change that. And I was googling you know, great albums, and this list came up by Rolling Stones of Rolling Stone magazine they put together a list, and I think it's important to say because a lot of people. Well, some people have criticized a couple of the bands that are on the list, and they did go out. I looked into it about how they came up with the list, they did go out to musicians experts credit. I should say musicians and critics musicians and music, critics also industry people. And that's how they came up with this list. But it originally was I was I was originally just playing the music in the background as I was in the newsroom. And I realized I wasn't really giving it my full attention. So I stopped doing that now. And I just I focus on it. You know, I'm intently at home, and I'll, I'll just set aside time to, to take out an album at some of these albums on this list. One of them's over nine hours long Charles the Atlantic. Here's yeah. So, so there's a couple that are compilations which which speaks against what you said earlier, which is those compilation albums. Obviously weren't what the artist. Met for you to consume as an album. But yeah, a lot of these albums. It's apparent, you know, when you're going through them that they put together like that, for reasons. So it's fun to consume an album all at once. Well, I think about this, even if you hadn't necessarily been familiar with all of the music, I'm sure you had sort of a perception of what that band, is, maybe because of the time period that they performed in, or maybe the image of the kind of the vibe that they may project, sometimes, but there are albums like this one, Dane, love by the album is called forever changes by the ban. Love, I had never even heard of them. And there's, there's a probably a good twenty five thirty forty five percent of these that I've never even heard of. Wow. Okay. So now on this list is does it really kind of span the scope, in and styles of different musing, for instance, not really because, for instance, so far, I there's the top five hundred list, I didn't know that existed. I started. With the top one hundred so, so far, I I'm on the just listen to hotel, California, by the eagles, which is number thirty seven, and I've only listened to one, I guess it would be rap helped me out here. Tom, the public enemy. Oh, yeah. That rappers that's rat. That's hip hop in. Brad your in the scope. So there's one though one hip hop out as the top one hundred and I I'm a person that has outwardly criticized Rolling Stones list. I think it's a great place for someone who is completely like I have no real context for music, you know where do I begin? I don't think it's a bad place to start because for a number of decades, Rolling Stone was like one of one of if not the premier music publication the United States, but the whole magazine is run by yawn winner. And yon Wegner has a certain proclivity for artists that are from the. Sixties and seventies, roughly and specifically operating out of California, the San Francisco Bay area, and he's been he has been consistently criticized as an editor in chief by for for having that preference. And you can see it in the rock, and Roll Hall of fame of which he is a at least maybe a board member, but he has heavy involvement in. There's a lot of artists that have gotten in that were or the first artists to get in networks specifically from that era of the heyday of the sixties and early seventies. And this list also gives gave them a chance to backtrack on themselves a little bit where you'll see later on in the lists albums from, like led. Zeppelin, Rolling Stone. Very famously hated Led Zeppelin and totally pan Led Zeppelin, despite being in my opinion, V, greatest rock group of, of Therrien that team photo. Right. You know they're one of the you can't get down that they're in the Mt. Rushmore. I'm really as a beginner excited about what you're saying Tom, because to me, you know, I can't wait to go to move on. And, and there's been a lot of people that have been sending me recoil a like suggestions. And so, you know, the fact that this isn't the obviously, this isn't everybody's opinion of the greatest albums of all time. So this is just where I started. And I am now I just want to keep on going because I'm really falling in love with music, and it's changing. It's changing my mindset which I didn't expect any of that to happen. But it's changing my mindset, I'm more positive a more positive person, and I I'm getting a brand new appreciation for artists, not just musicians, but artists and art itself. So, yeah. And, and I think maybe depreciation understanding of the fan base and I saw some of the social media where with dark side of the moon. I mean, y'all grew up. Everybody seeing t shirts with that, you know, the prism on there, and all that kind of stuff, and then you get a chance to hear the music. And you say, more positive person, some of this stuff is a little bit dark. So your, your thoughts on that. Do you have, like maybe when you see that it comes through maybe a symbol or logo that you've seen for a long time now probably means something entirely different? Yeah, that has happened and there, there have been some dark around bums. And I think I just I stick to my basic goal which was when I started was just to listen to it. I figured the these artists made this art, it's, it's as far as the art that humans create. Well, I don't know that any, any other species is creating art, but the art that the that these people have created is there and all you have to do is push play and I figured my goal was just to listen to it. I'm not trying. To analyze it Dane. I'm not trying to criticize it because I'm a very very you know, I'm a beginner and so some of the darker albums, or albums that I didn't, particularly like I just gave it a listen. And so, yes, some of them talked about. But I will say another thing you like the image of the dark side of the moon. Right. Everybody's saying that even I recognize that as Pink Floyd, I had never listened to it. And now it's like I want to buy the album. I want to go by a t shirt. I never you know, spend any money on that stuff. And now. Yeah, it is. I am understanding the fan base. More for sure. Well, here are the side effects, you're doing this sort of as kind of this personal journey. But a lot of people, you know, maybe in certainly more than you thought are either getting it out, and enjoying it being inspired, or at least affected by what it is that you're doing so, before we get back into the into the news, give information people kind of follow your journey kind of see what it is. You're doing in kind of way in and I know a lot of people have. Yeah. A couple have I. Well, you can find most for right now at Vic Vaughn, dont. I'm sorry. At Vic Vaughn voice on Instagram's probably the easiest way right now, I'm posting mostly on Instagram at Vic Vaughn, voice, and that's probably going to adapt. I'm working at because there has been a lot of people that have been inspired by this. I don't get to talk to them much. But I went to my family recently for Father's Day out, in the suburbs. And a lot of the younger people in my family, nieces and nephews, and their wives and husbands are really following this and a couple of them have already started doing the same thing. They're going through this list and listening to albums. And again, a lot of them said they, they never listened to albums. They just listen to itunes track for track. And so, and then my own two sons, which wants to tune in high school will be, and then once it's going to be in the eighth grade. They both told me they want to start listening to albums. So that's when I decided, you know what I'm gonna do is, I'm either going to create a YouTube. Channel or flog where this is just out there in the and that is kind of a path for people who are like me, who didn't listen to music growing up. And they want to just have a road map of what I did, and they can listen to the album go up and check out and see what I said about things like that. But at Vic Vaughn voice uncle Vic, so cool man. He listens to albums. Okay. But think about this, and then I got a soccer ball in the face. Here's the thing when you think about maybe eagle back some amount of, of years and we talked about the Elvis phenomenon earlier on in the program. And you think about where music where the, the younger generation comes up at whatever point in history, and they look back at their parents music, and they, they dispel it and dismiss it and it's all about them and rebelliousness and all that kind of stuff at the phenomenon that we're seeing now just as, as Vic, you're kind of exploring and experiencing. Some of this music is there's kids now that listen to Tom, you brought it up that Led Zeppelin is undeniably, good. I don't care, whether you're, you know, whether you're fifteen years old, or whether you're eighty five years old, you know, if you can appreciate the music in the style, and you're seeing that where there isn't necessarily like an expiration date built into kind of the popularity or the success of the quality of, of music. And that's one of the things too. So so victory lasting Qassam has has kind of left the building at this point. But the when you think about some of the things that are coming up to you have. Some that you're looking forward to that. Are you're anticipating yes. To get to this. Yes. Yes. Yes. Because. Okay. The beach boys, pet sounds that album is number two on the list. Now I had. No, again, I don't know anything about music, I'm learning. So I didn't realize the beach wise. Were that good. I just didn't realize that I'd like you were saying earlier, about people criticize the, the, the Beatles as our guest was saying, as you know, in the beginning as just a pop phase. I thought the beach boys were just kind of a phase there. The number two mcchord into the Rolling Stones. I can't wait to hear that album and then also sergeant Pepper's lonely hearts club band. I've never heard that album. And so, I can't wait to listen to that one. That's number one on the list. Bo. We're going to get to hear him along with you and kind of experience, that an experience like you being able to kind of experience it at the same time, it's gonna be exciting. You know, you're kind of bringing other people back to it, even if they're familiar with the album's this new. Percents perspective that you have on it, and the excitement is contagious. So thanks, vicar, appreciate it. Thank you. Dain. All right. So now before we go to break, and we're going to go to break when we come back from the break, I think we're going to have Jordan clever from the clippers show from.

The brother-in-law, and I'm the one that's gonna give you the brother-in-law deal. I can promise you that. And I know that's true. And you guys have taken care of my listeners for years at Toyota. Barney the twenty nineteen ramp four man that thing is really setting the woods on fire. Well, I'll tell you this Jerry that that vehicle is incredible. It is totally redesigned to me, it looks like a smaller version of our Highlander. And it is a really really nice car a ton of them in stock right now. Saw it encourage any of your listeners come out look at that car, and I'll give them at brother-in-law deal. We talked about Chris, Ed Toyota, Bernie, I ten west exit five forty three Toyota Bernie dot com. Newsradio twelve hundred w O AI. This car pro USA radio show. Kevin McCarthy, Jerry Reynolds, I've got admit the people in your video of the week Mustang commercials from the eighty s look like they were having a lot more fun than whoever wise. It was driving vehicle in my video the week slammed by avalanche. Yeah. Colorado just out of nowhere. That was both of those were good man one. Of course, it was a slim margin, though. But you gotta understand. This was my second choice. Video the first one I said him and say here's my video with an explanation of it by the time. He. Later that day. It was they had taken a down for some reason copyright infringement. So I had to pick a second choice. And it was the best commercials from the eighty s Ford Mustangs. Which you which you use you sold. So well because instead of just saying, wow, there's a great look back. You happened to mention that. Oh back in the eighties. They sure like to show good looking young women in bathing, suits. That is sort. Had any bearing on me way. Who's next gonna talk to add, and he is calling from the capital of California, Sacramento. Hello, Jerry, a pleasure to speak to you you to my friends. I'm looking to replace my wife's vehicle, it's two thousand seven onto CRV. We've had for about ten years. You know, nothing. Knock your socks off. Good reliable car. We're looking to replace it with maybe a couple year old possibly a CR be looking at the Ford edge. A third choice would be the Hundai Santa Fe. I was kinda wondering on your thoughts about those three tell you. That's three good ones. And this segment really gives me fits because there really aren't any bad choices in it. There are some there a little better than others. You know, the reliability long-term of the CRV you've lived that. You're saying that right now how many miles on that one. About one hundred and forty okay? And it'll get a lot further if you wanted to, but you've had it a long time. It's time, you know, our biggest complaint about that vehicle. Jerry are the seat. I think airline seats might need more. Yeah. I've heard that before and I get I hear road noise on the older model CRV's. You know for me and pick any one of those three in and you're gonna get yourself a good vehicle. Look for vehicles that have a great history, but don't hold their value as well. And and that perfectly describes the Ford edge. I can't I can't tell you. How many thousands of times I've recommended that vehicle to listeners friends and family because they're great buys is going to give you a little bit more room. It's going to be quieter. It's going to have a little nicer interior. And you're going to have a little more cargo area than you are with the Santa Fe or the CRV is also going to be the best by by a long shot. So I I would I would rank them in order of of looking as edge Honda Hyundai in that order. Hear a lot about the Hyundai tenure one hundred thousand mile warranty. I just want you to be aware that that's not available on a used one. It's it's the sixty thousand mile limit on a used one. So a lot of people think, you know, I buy used one hundred thousand mile warranty. That's not true. So all that said again, you could make you couldn't make a mistake. But if it were me, I would go to L grow for dot com. And look and see what they have in their certified inventory and reach out to Rachel would the honor their she's one of the owners, they're her and her husband, kale and see what they can do for you. They will roll out the red carpet for you. I think for the same dollars engine option on that for me. You know, I still like the six cylinder. Really? Well, but if fuel economy plays into it the four cylinder EKO boost has got plenty of power. And it gets great gas mileage and now we've got enough history on that engine. To know, you know, it's a two hundred thousand mile plus engine. So you're looking at if you land all three of those up and said, which one for this amount of money, whatever your number is be twenty thousand twenty five K, okay? For twenty five grand, which one can I get the nicest lowest mileage vehicle in this factory certified. And there's no doubt that answer is the edge. Okay. How about comfort? Answers edge. It just try. You'll see what I'm talking about. It's got a it's got very comfortable seats of nice sized backseat. And you're gonna probably depending on the model, you're gonna find you're gonna find things like blind spot monitoring, which I love you're gonna find the power lift gate, which I love especially as we age those lift gates, if they're not power to get harder and harder to open and close not open so much, but you gotta reach way up over your head and pull one down. Let's talk on things are heavy. Try try the edge. If it doesn't work holler back. We'll talk some more..

"I'm Vic Vaughn in the WGN newsroom. Ready? Join the conversation live whenever a story changes on Chicago's very own seven twenty WGN right after thirty. Aldermen would would move on and be either a part of the community or let someone else take over. But unfortunately, we haven't had that this is the Patti Vasquez show on seven hundred twenty WGN on February twenty six Chicagoans are going to the polls and many people thought last year. Well, you know, we're just gonna figure out I guess we're gonna vote for mayor Emanuel unless somebody else comes along. And then he announced in the fall that he would not be seeking reelection. And man, the doors were blown off the hinges because everybody came out and was and there were some announcements there was some people like, okay, I can see preckwinkle jumping in this and people are mad at Tucson Mendoza for running for comptroller, and now running for mayor, and one of the names that has risen to the top of the heap and is recognizable to so many in the in the circles that are paying attention is Amara India. I'm gonna say, please, let me know if I say your name crest. Enya? I it's a pleasure to have you in studio. It was great to to moderate the forum for the thirty four Democrats. There was such an interesting evening at the kapernick at center. Yes. So how has your journey been so far it's been about two months since I last saw you. Yes. How's how's the last eight months looking ahead of you? So we are absolutely excited about let's Tecom. We have gained a lot of momentum. And I think that's a product of a lot of the hard work. That's happened. With our team we've expanded our ground game we've gotten more endorsements. So it's looking like, you know, we've we've we've reached our peak. And yet, we are we have I think the energy and the momentum behind us. Now, what are the things that you're hearing from the most when you talk to people on the street trying to get when you were getting signatures, or, you know, whether you're going door to door, or, you know, meeting in shaking hands at bus stations. What do people want from the next mayor of Chicago? Well, one thing is that we collected sixty two thousand signatures to get on the ballot which is more than every other candidate. And that is very telling because people were excited and they wanted to sign petitions, and I think it's because we have an actual message for Chicago. That's based on our visit for what the city can become. So we're not just critiquing the way things. We're showing people what the Chicago that they deserve can look like and they are excited because it sounds different. It feels relevant today. And our perspective is a people driven campaign that actually reflects the lived experience of everyday Chicago. So we don't sound like typical politicians and across the city people do not want the establishment like they are wholeheartedly projecting anything that is connected to the establishment into the machine until we're very well positioned with them. Well, one of the problems that we've had to throughout the city and throughout the state, of course is kicking the can down the field. Right. When it comes to pensions, and our obligations to those who have taken on jobs at many of us won't or can't do when we're talking about. Our teachers are firefighters and our police officers. What do you what are your plans for that that burden that we all have is our obligation to our pensions? Yes. So there's two parts of the strategy. So one is short term revenue securing short term revenue we have a plethora of absence for that. But also the long-term economic growth strategy where we are focused on stuck. Actually, transforming the economy that means a moving away from this pudding, Oliver public dollars into financial institutions and actually having a city owned public Bank for the city taxi would allow us to do things like fund our own infrastructure without the high interest rates that we pay to private banks right now forty to fifty percent in cost overruns just on interest alone that goes profit to private banks that kind of money would be recirculated back into our economy is revenue. It also allows us to expand small business loan. So that we can have more entrepreneurs and more small businesses across the city because we are willing to take higher risk by investing in entrepreneurs with small business loans at Bank could issue. So we have to address the long term revenue that the city needs. While also making sure that we're growing the economy, which makes us much more financially strong. So we can pay our pension obligations. So that we can we won't be raising fines fees and tickets on residents that can least afford to pay. Have there been any other cities who've had? That that sort of same wavelength right there. The public have success stories. Yes. Yes. So the best example right now is actually in North Dakota. It's one of the highest performing banks in the country, and this is currently a process in dozens of cities and states across the country. The governor of New Jersey, this was the hallmark of his economic plan. I actually work on this with public finance professionals across the country and New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco Santa Fe, they're all moving down this path in Chicago really should be leading on this issue. What are the? Here's here's a little bit of feedback. They were gonna better that was here. It is. What are the barriers to establishing a CitiBank? So right now there are no barriers. It's just the process of how it's done. So for capitalizing yet at the initial capital or dollars that it takes to start the Bank actually will just shift it from the money that we currently hold in private banks. So you don't have to have a brand new capital race to start the Bank, and then it's structured in a way that they are firewalls. So that it doesn't become the mayor spank or mitigates corruption. So it's it's the whole structure of it. Make sure that there is a con ability at every level that it's not tied to a political office that it's only for public tax dollars. And that the money is actually be circulated back into the economy. So it is a way of moving away from the hundreds of millions of dollars that we currently pay to private financial institutions whose motive is always prophet, a public banks only motive is making sure that we're expanding the economy a lot of folks, you mentioned something very important, which is, you know, someone who's tied to the machine or somebody's accumulated a lot of power, obviously, we. A lot of problems right now in our city hall, whether it's you know, the stories about so lease walking around with a wire. I mean, the the appalling thing is is that it's all appalling. Yeah. And the other thing is that people are acting as though. Yeah. I could see that. Right. Or the fact that you know, they're more people are more mad that he was wearing a wire than the fact that they were doing shady stuff. Yes. I'm editing language. I mean, it really is interesting. It was there was the anger that he snitched on everyone and not the actual corruption. That's existing. And then there's this rush folks to give money bags so you take money from someone who's widely known as being corrupt and then the rest to give money back which is disingenuous. I just think that there's a culture of corruption. It's been allowed to thrive. That's tacitly accepted by most people who've been in office. It's business as usual for them. So now that it is become politically toxic because you had been Burke was indicted, and then you had so lease was wearing a wire. Now, everyone is scrambling to distance themselves. But this is why people are tired of the machine. This is why they're tired of the establishment because they see the inside deals. They see the political clouds that's giving people access to power and money. And they're losing out. People are struggling to stay in their homes. Sterling to get into good schools and the system isn't working for them. You mentioned getting into good schools. There's a lot of anger when it comes to these magnet schools, which we know we're very proud of. We're very proud of our. The special enrollment selective enrollment schools including Peyton and Jones lane tech. But there are some. I mean, first of all it does seem as though they are predominantly white. And now, you have communities that continue to struggle continue to have their, you know, their to be strangled when it comes to opportunities to progress. Yes. How do we channel some of that those resources into communities and not just whether it's the ones that we talk about whether it's Inglewood, or, you know, Wildwood from one of the city to the other. We our kids to get on buses and trains schools. Exactly. And that's one of the centerpieces of my education platform is we have to reevaluate the selective enrollment model. I think it's cements stratification and CPS when they did it initially. It was to keep middle class families here because they would say okay now, I can get into one of these schools. But now parents have to start thinking about a selective enrollment school when their child is born because they've got to navigate to go to the right school. The right middle school move into this neighborhood to get into the high school, and parents are deciding that they don't wanna. You have to think about that. So they'll just move out to the suburbs where they know their kids will get into a quality school. So we're actually losing families because of this model and also if we truly care about everyone having access to a quality school equality high school, then we have to invest in the neighborhood high schools that we have we can't just concentrate our investment in the few selective enrollment high schools that only serve a small fraction of CPS population. We're talking to Marin. Yeah. She's running for mayor of Chicago, one of the most important jobs in the country, the most important job held publicly in my life. I would say since I was the Reno could remember I went to a public school. And every fall when I was a kid. We didn't know if we're gonna start school on time. And we'll talk more about education about the safety of our city. And if you have any questions or comments feel free to give us a text or call, and I am going to warn you right now Amara my mom wants to know about the peace of the entire today. So I ask her you're talking to her to ask more in a moment on seven twenty WGN. Bret.

"Vic Vaughn in the WGN newsroom. Ready to join the conversation live whenever a story changes on Chicago's very own seven twenty WGN. I love men at work. As our good friend, Jim west cow ski requested network. That's a mistake. And it's triple play Thursday. Means we get to hear through two more and it works on any requested it because an eighty s band ahead of our conversation about eighties movies on Monday morning. You know, I've been getting some some people who might not have heard why Colin is is has not been on an in. He's taking some time off longtime off he's going back to school and he's doing some other things. So that's why Jim has taken over for for Colin. But I've been getting some posts and some some questions about people like, hey, where's Colin? He's taken some time away. He's doing some other stuff his personal life and going back to school and stuff. So yes. So Jim is now going to be working with me and Eric every Monday morning to review the movies, Eric, by the way. Leaves for. Sundance today. He's gonna leave the cold weather to go to more cold weather. So yeah. And he's gonna cover Sundance for us as he does every year. He's going to see a ton of movies. He always does. He's there for like six days. He sees like fifty movies. So we will have exclusive coverage of Sundance from the festival when Erica reports with us, and we will have a report on Monday morning show. So all right, cool. Three one two nine eight hundred seven two hundred is the phone number for talk and text triple play Thursday requests, how we live and the AllState skyline studio, and we're here until five o'clock how about we have some fun food holidays that you can celebrate this year. Now yesterday was national pie day. Did you know that I did not says take today to enjoy a classic apple or pecan pie. We're trying something new. And I also happen to have some forgotten pie recipes that should be brought back. Let's go through some of those you guys enjoy pie. Danny you apply guy. Yeah. I mean, you used to hang out at Baker swear. I I mean guilty as charged. Yeah. So. Which one did you was it faster in Harlem, which? How French silk French silk was the one that I always went with two. Yeah. It's got to be the most popular pie there. Right. I would say so. Yeah. It's kind of their sick, isn't it that like kind of their signature pie at baker's square. A lot of people, although it is eight or ten deep on the selection menu. Is it really? Yeah. It's not alphabetical either. But I'm sure what did they put? I gotta be apple right because that's the classic right cherry. Right. That kind of stuff. I'm curious. I if I remember correctly. Because you were there so often that you actually memorize the menu and how it was a time digitally singer right now, why isn't payday three fourteen is it in March fourteenth. Oh, that's a good question. A good question. It should be. Well, that's because because it's the other pie. Right. Like the real the pie that you're referring to right. Yeah. So I guess they didn't want to compete guess. So. Yeah. Well, here's some here's some pie recipes that are forgotten that people think we should bring back. So I hope maybe some of you guys enjoyed some pie yesterday. Three one nine eight one seven two hundred how about this the buttermilk chess pie. Anybody ever hear that three one two nine eight one seventy one hundred for talker. Text the beauty of this pies in its simplicity known as a quote desperation pie. Hey, he used to do traffic on our show. Because it relies on very few basic ingredients, the only ingredients many cash strapped farm families had back in the nineteenth and twentieth. Centuries. The chess pie nevertheless manages to be decadent with flour sugar eggs butter coming together. In just the right quantities. Adding buttermilk along with some cocoa powder makes it even more satisfying from there, you can customize it any way you want. You can with lemons or pecans raven citrus fruits the buttermilk chess pie. Never heard of that. The mincemeat pie. We all know about the mincemeat pie mincemeat reaches all the way back to the thirteenth century when crusaders returned from the holy land. With the three main spices, cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg cooks, use them, mainly as preservatives for fruit and meat and found combining everything together made for a tasty pie filling enjoyments meat pie. I wonder if that's just a popular in regional we've talked about that before right now means me pie was popular in certain regions. The sour cream or the sugar cream pie. Sour cream pie. That's tasty nothing like a sour cream pie. The sugar cream pie. If you grew up in Indiana. It's an Indiana thing. There's a good chance. You're familiar with this the official pie of the Hoosier state. The recipe comes from the Amish who settled in Indiana and the eighteen hundreds and it calls for heavy cream milk. And of course sugar. That seems simple enough. Like chess pie. This desperation pie has gone out of style in recent generations. But dutiful hoosiers have kept it in their holiday rotation for years mixing Brown and granulated sugar can deepen the flavor while cinnamon cinnamon topping can spice things up a bit you fantasy cinnamon. No. Yeah. We've talked about this in the past. I love cinnamon. Course, I've never done this stupid. Cinnamon challenge were somebody puts a spoonful of cinnamon in their mouth. Now, they're doing it. Hey now, they're doing it blindfolded while they're walking around. While they're while they're walking around, and they you know, what they you know, what they wash the cinnamon with down with tied pod while they're blindfolded walking around while dancing near Drake. That's right outside of moving car combine all of the idiocy into one. Why don't we just do that? It's amazing to me that net. Flicks had to seriously Netflix had to release a statement telling people not to blindfold themselves or ride a bike or walk or trying to do chores around the house. Do does Netflix really have to go. Hey, you know, that's not a good idea. Did Sandra Bullock make a statement about it? Did she did? She actually did she make a statement. I think she might have made a statement about what about this, by the way, if you've not seen this movie bird bird box for some reason, it became a sensation. It's a it's a good movie. Not a great movie. But it's like the biggest Netflix movie like ever. You know, meanwhile, people are watching that run around blindfolded. Nobody's watching Roma. That's that which is which is available on Netflix. And it's the best damn movie of the year. All right. The shoe fly pie. Molasses at the main ingredient in this pie for which we can also thanked the Amish. There are to try to there are two types the dry bottom shoo shoo fly pie say that nine times fast, which has the consistency of gingerbread and the wet bottom which has a custard like quality, and it comes top with crumbs. There are a few theories about the name the most convincing one being that the sweet molasses drew flies while pies were cooling causing cooks to shoo them away. That makes sense. And if it's not if it's if that's not the reason why it's called she flights. A great story. Man is anybody still put pies on the windowsill to cool? I'll tell you what if you put pies on the windowsill this weekend. They're gonna freeze. The vinegar pie. Don't be put off by the name of this pie, which combines the silky quality of a custard pie with the tartness of an apple pie. The use of apple cider vinegar was the way for nineteenth century cooks to mimic, the taste of actual fruit making this an early culinary hack while you won't find it. Most restaurants. It's pretty simple to make it home. Was it can you pull up a recipe for vinegar pi, Dan? Reminds me of the movie Miami blues. Where Jennifer Jason Leigh. Has his relationship with Alec Baldwin? Who is like this crazy criminal dude who keeps that away from her? That's that away from her. They ended up getting married and living together. And she at the end of the movie she makes him a pie. She makes. It's I think it's a vinegar pie is what she makes. And she pours like an entire bottle of vinegar in the into it. 'cause she found out that he was who he was and stuff. The you know, he has a piece of piney eats the whole thing even though it's like whore horrifyingly disgusting. And then at the very end of the movie, she's like, why would you why would you stay with him? And she's a Kaz. He he he he ate my pie. And. It's a it's a terrific movie, by the way, one of Alec Baldwin's best performances. Jennifer Jason Leigh is greater. Fred war rules, the planet and it by the way. Miami blues. Great movie so vinegar pie. Do we have a half a Cup of sugar at water gradually cook on top of the Debra boiler, fifteen minutes. Combining the remaining half Cup of share with yolks and salt mix. Well with a whisk until sugars dissolved and a half hour mixture to the yoke gradually mixing the entire time. Then add butter extract and vinegar mix. Well and moved from heat beat the egg whites until foaming gradually at sixteen. We'll spoons of sugar play the custard building into the prepaid shell topped with meringue. Oh, it's with meringue. That doesn't sound too bad. Does this sound like there's a lot of vinegar in it. It doesn't sound like there's a a Jennifer Jason Leigh amount of vinegar. Bye. All right yesterday was national pie day, and we have more food holidays that we can celebrate this year. But because yesterday was national pie day we're going through some recipes for some pies that that people would like to bring back that nobody makes anymore. So we've got a few more of those. And if you want to jump in here three one two nine eight one seven two hundred for talk and text three one two nine eight one seven two hundred more after this. Miller.

Report: This STEM Degree Is The Most Valuable

"So what's the most popular most valuable? We should say. College majors. New ranking is out joining us this morning as Adrian Garcia from bankrate dot com. Adrian good morning. Welcome to the opening bell. Thank you. Good morning. Well, the envelope, please. This Bank rate survey or ranking has the most valuable college majors. What are they? Yeah. So we found was really dominates. The list is to stem fields science, technology engineering and mathematics, all earning. Six figures. The top five for us coming in at number one is the actual science degree. So an actuary numbers Connor. Exactly, there's extras are basically the best way to think about them. Or where is the people who set the premiums for our car insurance or health insurance home insurance? And they also make sure the insurance companies have enough money set aside to pay the claims when we go to them and need to cover something, I have a friend who's an actuary, and he will take my age couple of other factors whether or not I smoke or not and can tell me about one I'm going to die. Yeah. They have a job. That's always fun to talk about a dinner party is partly because they have to deal with mortality rates physical. When people are going to die. That's one of the things that count the average income one hundred eight thousand six hundred and fifty eight dollars number two was a surprise zoology. Yeah. That's surprising. A lot of folks it has a really good income of the hundred and twelve thousand dollars on average roughly unemployment rates super low at one point four percent. But you'll see a lot of people with that may undergrad go on to get a masters or doctorate degrees suggesting maybe they're going in the Mets shelter using other than just studying animals is the that was going to be my next question. Is there any way to find out or do you know, what those folks who are doing as are doing out there and why they've chosen that field? This study of definitely takes into account what people studied and what percentage of them got advanced degrees as well as their unemployment income. Unfortunately, we didn't look at what they did. With those degrees. But questions like zoology makes you wonder, and I think that's something. We'll definitely consider looking at future years number three nuclear engineering. Yeah. We can expect all the engineering majors to do. Well, no, no engineering majors are eating ramen noodles based on this study. But average income there was one hundred and nine thousand dollars. An unemployment rate was one point nine percent. So again, both string this stem jobs. A lot of them pay. Really well. Yeah. Health and medical programs and before applied sciences number five. Were there any surprises on the list on the rankings in your mind? I guess we have been famous several times. I don't wanna sound like a broken record stem dominated it. Anytime you saw non stem major was number fourteen that was public policy suggesting maybe some of our politicians or lobbyists, or, you know, others in the social space are able to also good income that science technology engineering, just stop twenty spots dominated. Yeah. Let's go to the other side of that list. What did the ranking show that we're the least valuable college majors? Sure. So science all that dominated the top arts and humanities really fell to the bottom with the miscellaneous fine arts degree coming last. It's already kind of a fake degree because it's not theater and dance visual and performing arts. So their average salary is forty one thousand dollars, but unemployment rate is super high nine point one percent. Wow. That is super pretty high. Let's see some of the others there at the bottom of visual and performing arts. Go ahead. That's another fight arts degree, you're gonna take causing culinary arts. Yeah. And then clinical psychology down their composition speeches. Well, all those down near the bottom. Those degrees, fared, well, clinical psychology. I think a lot of us think of that. It's more professional degree, you've probably find jobs average and coast fifty one thousand dollars, but the point that pushed up because so many of those students had to go on to get a masters or doctorate degree that. They might have to take on more debt are rich into their savings before they can start learning working Adrian, what is the takeaway here? Obviously there if you're out looking for a job that is going to earn you a lot of money and keep you employed. The these rankings are important. But should we look at this his perhaps that some of these degrees are not valuable? I mean, isn't isn't all college sort of valuable in a way? I think the overwhelming research out there is no matter what getting a degree is still in the long run going to be better for you than if you didn't get one. I think what you need to do. If you're looking at it looks like there's and picking a major thinking about student. You have there's realized that they're probably not gonna pick their major based off of how much money that can earn. Most of us didn't do that. So you have to balance what you're passionate with being practical that might mean living with roommates during college that might mean going to a community college and civil four year institution. Are living in a market. That's cheaper. Yeah. And that was going to be another question here. You know, we look at some of these stem degrees. It's probably pretty expensive to get one of those degrees. Isn't it? It. It definitely depends on where you're going. If you're going to a more prestigious school with the best rec center, you're probably gonna pay out more than if you go to a community college where you can get the same degree at. So it depends on market. I've talked to some people from California where the cost of living super high, and they look at the six figure income, and they kind of shake their head at it. Because that doesn't goes far they weren't certain markets. You're absolutely right. During the system what the results would be dramatically different. If we were in another economic time as opposed to the strong economy that we're in now. I don't take the results would be so much different. I think we've heard a lot about wage growth has not followed the great economic. I think we're waiting to see those numbers pushed up, I think what's really changed since there's been a huge push in stem. But also this list. Let's let's remember it doesn't take an account. There's also been a huge push in the trades. And you could earn good incomes and a lot of the traipse throughout the country. So let's keep those
