"I don't know if I like that. I I like as a coach like an outlier in appearance like a Like someone who's either very old Not in great shape Like looks battle -hardened. There's something to that for me because Well Vic Fangio is Mike McDaniel's defensive coordinator Now Vic Fangio is still the head coach of the Broncos we'd have and Vic and I are from Scranton That would have been a very well Vic is from Dunmore I'm from Scranton. Let me because he'll correct you when you say that but That would have been an obvious one, but you get rid of Vic Fangio you get rid of me as a franchise So but Vikings are good But again, it's like I like So what I like about them So the wholesome part like Kirk Cousins has got that covered but on top of that, right like I do think like the way they treated their plate like one thing that was very noticeable to me was the way they handled all their outgoing players this year and If you go back and you look like Dalvin cook Patrick Peterson Eric Kendricks All these got Adam feel and all these got Dalvin cook all these guys they offloaded None of them have anything bad to say about the Vikings because of the way they handle those guys on the way out And then what you have remaining? Is maybe the most exciting young player in the game and Justin Jefferson, right? Proximity, New Jersey, that's an easy flight. It's a Delta hub So you have like you can get there really really easily and probably like an hour and a half two hours I feel like the young core there is good. They're very Forward thinking with quasi Adolfo Mensa is their GM who's kind of like a good merger between analytics and scouting. I Think there's a lot there I mean I just think that and I don't think that they're at the level of like the Bears or the Giants where it's like Alright, like that's a hit. That's a team that like has Like it's hard to just join that established fan base You know what? I mean? Like I feel like they're like maybe a notch below that and they're Minnesota nice. They would let me in My problem is I feel like as my kids get older. I need the head coach to be Older than me because like I think Kevin O 'Connell and I are pretty close to the same age We're in the same NFL locker room together when I was a young beat reporter and he was I covered him to Quarterback. Yeah, it's so I think like I would imagine like maybe one day my kids being like Oh the head coach of the Vikings is 40. Why aren't you doing anything? Cool dad? You're you're 40 so that's just something that's kind of the back of my radar, but I do I I Do support moving the Vikings up? to to a hot team Potentially and I do like I like that They're a little earlier in the cycle because it would be a little strange to I think the Jaguars are a very appealing pick It would be strange to become a Jaguars fan and then for the rest of your life people say Oh, how'd you become a Jaguars fan? And you say well, it was Trevor Lawrence's third season They had already proven they could win a playoff game and I said now's a good time for me to hop on the Jacksonville bandwagon Jacksonville just feels like I don't know. It's like too obvious too obvious That's how I feel about Detroit too, which is in this category. We haven't even talked about. Yeah. Yeah No, I'm with you Detroit's too obvious and part of this is gonna be You know, I want a fan base that handles success. Well, I think on this list a lot of teams that got punished Are teams whose fans when they achieve sudden success? Just collectively become like the largest group of douchebags on the planet and is that how you feel about Eagles fans? People would describe Patriots What I like about Eagles fans, I will say this you're getting dangerously close to early Bill Simmons era Boston and A Boston Red Sox Boston Celtics where you're making it a lot about you and I think you are over rating The struggle that's what I would say and it's there's a very theatrical Element to all that we had to go through in the empty stadiums at the link and oh The fellowship what we called it up here was right before they like the championships started here They called it the fellowship of the miserable up here But it's theater, right? It's acting some of it is Yeah, I mean like the whole like going to your you know Great -grandfather's grave site the day after the Red Sox won the World Series. There was definitely some of that Okay, I can see that to one up that I will say the morning of the Super Bowl this past year I saw videos from Philly where people were at their grandparents grave sites tailgating And they had run like they were tailgating with their dead relatives I remember walking into the stadium in Arizona being sent these videos Wait a minute Can you imagine like driving by a cemetery and seeing like an RV parked in the middle of it and just like a half dozen people hanging out But that's also part of why I'm weary about Philly like there's always there's already this established fan Subculture and then to be able to fit in I would have to be so extra beyond what I am now And so I think that there's a little bit of pressure there to be there's a high barrier to entry to be a fanatical Eagles fan I think yeah, I also think Philly is a very strong 4 -4 kind of city and I know there are others on the list I'm not saying that's exclusive to Philly But I think it it is Particular there where it's like the diehard Eagles fans are tend to be also diehard Sixers Phillies fans It's not an easy city to sort of pick and choose one team a la carte and have other interests It feels like everyone's very much dialed into all of the teams I know there are other four for four cities people probably listening to the saying or cities like that, too But it feels it feels like some very passionate fans as I know and I think it would be a tough place to just sort Of hop in as just an Eagles fan it would it would anybody else have a candidate to bump up from maybe teams So we're moving the Vikings up right moving the Vikings up Okay, I'm gonna have to you know, the Kevin O 'Connell thing is a me issue.

"I would think if he's going to be the coordinator for John Payton. Remember this rob Ryan was the coordinator for Sean Payton for what four seasons, 13 through 16 in New Orleans. So he obviously knows the family. I'm sure he knew Rex from that relationship as well. But there's no way Sean Payton's going to let Rex Ryan be making headlines during the week. There's just no way. If he's going to come back, he's going to come back to be the defensive coordinator, Thursday, press conference guy. He can't be more than that. That would be a problem. And you asked before the break, Chad, his criticism of Russell Wilson, frankly, for me, it was on point. Is everything we were saying locally that Russell was miscast. He cast himself as Drew Brees, so it was twofold, Hackett, having the inability and backbone to tell him no, this isn't working, and Russell trying to reinvent himself to play 12 more years. It was complete cascade of failures as we all know. But the criticism by Ryan was accurate. Does he need to patch that up with the rest? No, I don't think so. Everyone was ripping rest last year. He just, it might be worth the conversation if it comes up to say, hey, I was on TV, get paid to give my opinion. It's not personal. I don't think in any way, it was ever personal. I felt personal at times with Baker Mayfield, his criticism of him, but it never felt personal whether X Ryan and Russ Wilson. I don't see it that as being an issue, right? In terms of who the D coordinator is and what they may have said about Russ, what I see is potentially being an issue is the actual police and the philosophy. Because this is what fans would complain about with Vic Fangio in terms of playing the game to benefit the defense because that's what he's concerned about. Playing conservative offensively, punting in situations because it's better for the defense to give my defense the best chance to succeed and philosophically the comments that are on record, the receipts that will be brought up are Rex Ryan saying things like that. It's a philosophical approach to the way your game plan is to protect the ball and give your defense the best opportunity to keep you in the game, as opposed to take chances. And I don't know that 5 years later since he's been in the NFL 7 years later when Patrick Mahomes was not in the league when nobody had ever heard of Justin Herbert when Josh Allen was not on anybody's radar. I don't know that you can necessarily go 100% down that path and the AFC and expect to be a playoff team and expect to have success and if he's always pushing that in the building in the coaches meetings saying you got to give my defense a chance. You got to give it right playing the Vic Fangio way, right? I don't know if that necessarily is going to gel with what Sean Payton not only may want to do, but probably has to do to compete in the way the division is structured in the way the AFC is structured now. That makes sense. What's interesting about rich because you're right, defensive coaches like Fangio, like they want to tilt the game to basically let their defense win it. But Fangio wasn't aggressive. He never blitzed. If you go back and look at Rex Ryan's defenses, they were always top 13 and above in blitz rate. He gets after it.

"But this, you know, the symptoms getting hit in the chest and then what happens after this? Can he play football? And that's a concern too that I think there's a doctor with the NFL who's already said, we could see him play football again. They did walk it back because they should walk it back. We're not quite sure. If you're a team, what would you do? Would you go all, I'm going to let him play. And then what happens? So, you know, I think that there's some concerns here issues here. With this, as far as him moving forward, yes, he's young, but I don't know if he can play again. Given that condition, can you protect it? Keep in mind, he had a shoulder pads on, and those pads do go down over the heart. At least the ones that I've seen go down over the heart. Yes, Pauline. That's why the lack of an answer was I think we all were surprised when we heard the strand interview because if you watch a play and what you said Commodore Cordis is a hit to the chest that causes this thing, that would explain a lot. And I think that's what the average person thinks happened to on the field. If you watch Higgins cuts back and he gets hit in the left side of his chest with the shoulder so that that expression does make sense. It's just odd we won't say it. Commotio Cordis and it's abnormal heart rhythm and at most 30 cases a year, but they've seen this before with a baseball getting hitting a little leaguer or a hockey puck hitting somebody. And then it will hit the chest directly over the heart and then this is during the heartbeat. So the timing of it is so, so, so minuscule. But you have 30 cases a year. I misspoke Vic Fangio was with the eagles, not the chiefs. Thank you for cleaning up my mess there. I think I might have said that yesterday as well. All right. Poll question for hour two. We're going to go with what definitely not getting a ring in that situation. Yeah, no, he's not. Yeah. No, he's not. But if he did, but that would be odd. And the chiefs would like to give Vic Fangio job for the job that the eagles defense didn't do in the second half of the game. We're going to go with if you would keep the ring and cherish it forever or sell that puppy and get some bank. Get some back or make some bank. I was a little unsure of that. Does it matter? You should get some banks. I get some banks. I'm not sure. I don't know if I think you make back. I think it's amazing. I think you make money. You sell that puppy though. Sell that doberman. All right. Okay. Okay. All right, let's take a break. We'll come back more phone calls and we'll hand down some season ending grades in the NFL with the help of pro football

"He said, basically, is there anything more depressing than losing however he did? And Rhett Coleman just provided the picture, a screenshot of the 2018 draft saying, yeah, I remember you guys drafted Bradley chop over Josh Allen. Imagine if Denver Josh Allen right now, now would he have developed the same way? I don't know. I don't really trust any coaching in Denver. But man Broncos fans are they have to be at an all time low. And there was a moment where it looked like Denver, the beginning of the third quarter, right after halftime, it looked like Denver was going to play drew lock at quarterback. And nope. They're like, ah, we like what's going on. Let's leave it here. We think we think teddy's doing great. Did not make a change in quarterback. I'm like, well, why? I don't understand. And there's not a lot more to be said. I mean, context can not say Vic Fangio at this point. Whenever outcomes, outcomes do matter. I always try to say like, hey, I listen to context and outcomes. A lot of people only focus on the outcome and I remember when Denver lost to the ravens, a couple weeks ago, I said, well, let's see how much does this loss mean? We don't know yet because teddy Bridgewater got hurt, didn't play for half the game. Maybe Denver is good and teddy Bridgewater is necessary for them to win. No, clearly, with teddy without teddy they're awful. And a lot of it is because they're held back by a quarterback and a coaching staff that man, I don't know. You can't lose that game. Denver could not afford to lose to Cleveland who has depleted and it's so, so bad in Denver, there's so much potential there. There's good players all over the place. And what they need in Denver is a better coach and a better quarterback and it's pretty obvious and clear. I would be shocked if Vic Fangio kept his job. I don't know why you would fire him mid season. I think all that does is make things even harder for everybody. So I wouldn't fire Vic name Gio now, unless you think it can get you a head start on hiring your next coach like if you have a guy in mind and you're like, hey, we're gonna fire our guy. Like last year, was it two years ago, Washington fired their coach early to hire Ron Rivera like at Thanksgiving because they're like, we wanna make get a head start on hiring our next head coach. So if that's what happens for Denver that's great, but man, I'm really interested what kind of changes will happen. It's pretty clear Vic Fangio needed Aaron Rodgers to save his save his whole deal in Denver. And the difference, imagine if Denver had Aaron Rodgers instead of teddy Bridgewater. How different we would be talking about the Broncos. And how things might have played out, or think of what if Vic Fangio stayed in Chicago as a defensive coordinator, who was playing great. A lot of people say, Vic Fangio is the reason why Matt nagy the bears head coach one coach of the year that year. So, well, a lot of what is, man, what a patch armor. The offensive coordinator in Denver had stayed in Minnesota as offensive coordinator rather than going to the Giants and said, coach, I mean, there's so many I love the what if questions and pat Schumer probably wouldn't have done as well because they didn't really have a quarter..

"Back with head Coach Vic Fangio. I'm Dave Logan, the Broncos and the Giants in the regular season opener from New Jersey. We talked a little bit about the Giants defense. Coach. And now this focus on the offense and start with quarterback Daniel Jones. It was interesting as I was preparing for the game to look at his numbers with Kwame Barkley and without a qualm Barkley When Barkley plays he's a guy that is close to 2 to 1 in terms of wins two losses When Barkley doesn't play, it's like 123 so That running back is really critical to Daniel Jones and the entire Giants offense. No question about it. He's a special player both in the run game and in the past game, you know He's a guy that can take a check down all the ways you can run vertical row outside of the back. You know this place out of the backfield and run receiver type routes and H Obviously, the handoff to him is the Most common and dangerous thing He does and you know, take Any time. You can do that, like for a quarterback? Yeah, Let's talk specifically about Daniel Jones. This was a guy that may have been a little bit of surprised when he was drafted as as high as he was. When you see Daniel Jones and the tape you look at one year he was 2 to 1 and touchdowns, interceptions. Not the case last year. So what kind of quarterback do you see when you see Daniel Jones? I see a guy with the ability to be a complete quarterback. He can throw from the pocket. It's got a big arm. Um He can move. You know, he can run the bootleg scramble and be an improviser and find people down the field so She's a guy that can both throwing help You win both from the parking and moving around and I think he's going to be the Giants quarterback. So long time. Let me take you back to the Broncos offense. You start Teddy Bridgewater first opportunity for Teddy to start a game as a Denver Bronco. Uh, what two or three things in your mind are most critical in terms of what the offense must get done in order to have a chance to beat the Giants. Yeah, we're gonna have to be efficient. We're going to have to have Um these are running game going, which will be hard, which will be a hard short because they're big up front. We're gonna have to build, do our play past game and take our shots in the passing game and management relation. Plays more to Teddy strength. Yeah, you look at the injury factor. A couple of guys that have been limited in practice both Bradley Chubb and no offense. Um are you expecting both of those guys to play and if so? I mean, what do you expect from them? Yeah, I think no will be fine. And you know, Bradley still left in the air as to his availability. Last thing give me a couple things that are most critical for you to go for you guys to get a chance to win this opener. Well, we'd like to really win the takeaway Give battle. We? We need to do a great job in the special teams. The Giants are very good. And the kicking game both in their coverage and return units, and we're gonna have to do a good job there. Hey, Vic. Thanks for the time. Good luck in the game. All right, Thank you. Day. Appreciate it. You bet..

You're going to crunch I'm taking one heartbeat. One family. North Carolina, right host Georges ST. We all know North Carolina got beaten by Virginia Tech last week. States Georgia State got beat by 33 against Army last week, and Mac is given 26 1 Heartbeat, One family. I bet he's laid the wood all those players this week when he said, I'm not your friend this week. I want you to look past this week. I'll take North Carolina and Mack Brown minus 26 over Georgia's state. There's a I just found that you love it. You'll you'll find a lot of these games. I guess in week two of the college see the first couple of weeks we mentioned yesterday. This is not one of my picks. But Mercer is a 56 point. Underdog versus Alabama. I don't even know which way I would go on that. I guess I would have to take Alabama and lay 56 as well. I was trying to rally myself to pick Clemson. Disastrous performance versus Georgia last week. No, uh, manage only three points. As like Clemson. They can do it this week. They're playing South Carolina state and given up 50 50 points again. I'm not picking those games. But if you want to. Well, what's your pick? Vetoes? First pick. Okay. Here, I'm going to. I'm going to work in reverse. I'm going to start with the NFL on Sunday. The Denver Broncos are playing at the New York football Giants. The Giants at home three point underdog Clements Dog. I am not a fan of the Giants, Daniel Jones. I don't think is the answer. They got rid of Colt McCoy to screw them. Kwan Barkley, uh, injured again. I'm not sure if that guy is ever going to make it Don't pick her running backs in the first round of the NFL draft. Um, Who is he Throwing the ball to? Who are there? Who are the receivers for the giant? I don't know. But I tell you what. I don't believe in Teddy Bridgewater. No, I don't believe in Vic Fangio, the coach of the Denver brought legendary Vic Fangio. I do believe in Clements, you believe in music New York City? What's tomorrow? It's the 20 Year anniversary of 9 11. Okay games on Sunday towns going to the town's going to rally. Okay, They're gonna rally. It's their first time in the stadium and what, like a year and a half The town is going to rally. I'm getting three points with the New York football giants versus the West Coast team. Check out this team West Coast team going east. That's a problem. That's a problem. Give me the Giants, plus three, Okay, vetoes. First pick Beato. Is going to like a home team. That's not really a home team. Beato selected the New Orleans Saints. Against the Green Bay Packers. Packers. 3.5 FT. Oh, picks New Orleans. It's in Jacksonville, Yes, which they specifically picked Jacksonville. Because they said it would be hard or unattractive for Green Bay fans to travel to. I think there's Green Bay Packer fans everywhere. So Green Bay there, cheeseheads Cheese says everywhere. That was a real tough game for me, too. I looked at that one for a while, because I like Green Bay a lot there. Uh, it's gonna be a million degrees that favors the saints, right? I'm practicing outside New Orleans. Uh, it favors. Now they play. It won't it will favor. I think if it will, favorite favorite New Orleans playing in Jacksonville, it's going to be 100. Whatever is in in northern Wisconsin, this time again, Okay, So Beato has New Orleans Plus 3.5 vs Green Bay was your second pick my second pick. Let's go to the great state of Iowa, where they're having game day tomorrow. I will take plus 4.5 points card for brands and the Iowa Hawkeyes over Iowa State. Iowa has owned this series 4.5 minutes. I like 4.5 points and the visiting Hawkeyes of I or won't I like Iowa tomorrow. Heck, with Iowa State as ex Olympic I don't I don't believe in Iowa State and that Campbell, uh, Rock party? I don't I don't believe in that team, but I kind of want them. I would want we need them to. We want them to be good, right? No, no, We don't care. I don't care. I don't care to Texas win versus a better. Iowa state team is good for the Longhorns, but well, it's not like that Pick. I think I was And you're getting points with Iowa. I'm getting 4.5 of Io walk. That's very good. Okay, I'm gonna continue to work backwards. Noon on Sunday. The Los Angeles Chargers are traveling West Coast. All the way to Washington, D. C. Clements, Our nation's capital game kicks off at noon our time. That's 10 a.m. for those West Coast kids Justin Herbert Justin Herbert, the rookie of the Year is the first true road game is going to have sleep in his eyes. He never played in front of opposing fans. All right, he's going to He's going to have to play in front of a true uh, bitter road environments for the first time noon on Sunday. Chase Young Washington defensive line is unbelievable. Washington and one point favorite in this game one point that line is an insult at Clemens. I am laying the one point I don't necessarily care for the Washington football team, picking all the NSC's teams. What are I will take Washington minus one in the first true road game west to East and West to east over the Chargers beat, so let's stay in the NFL Beato. Hit it, Hit it. What's his favorite team? Oh, my God selects the Minnesota Vikings for real, the Vikings on the road and Cincinnati. Vikings minus three against Cincinnati. Beato likes man assault The Vikings. He likes the Vikings. I guess they're Yeah, they're on the road there as well. How can How can the Vikings only be a three point favorite versus Cincinnati? One of the worst teams in the league, right? Bomb field advantage. Joe Burrow still with a mastectomy..

"Is going to be released or to leave as a free agent, and so sure he's coming to Denver. Once his time in Green Bay is over. You kind of got a trade for him whenever you can, right. Trade deadline training camp June Draft night. They got to be willing to do that, right? I mean, Vic Fangio says he's not even really judging the quarterback competition. So if he's saying that, as a I'm not going to make a big deal about the fact that Drew lock has looked terrible the last couple of days and 11 on 11, which he absolutely has If he's not going to read into that. Then how much time does he have to actually judge? Teddy Bridgewater and drew lock. To feel confident and where they're at with the quarterback and to say this is a better scenario than bringing in Aaron Rodgers. I just I don't know that that date should exist for the Denver Broncos if the Packers are willing to trade him. You gotta wait. Got to be willing to weigh and you've got to be willing To Trade Forum in a spot that is kind of awkward. Like in the middle of training camp. I think you have to be right. If it tell me 5229872. "And instead of looking at watch, how did the Broncos end up with General Casey or age? A boy on Lee giving up what they gave up in order to get these guys instead of asking the question? How is that possible? We go. Oh, AJ boy. I remember when he was really good. Jack Weir signed in for a ton of money. Oh, General Casey, I remember him. Bryce Callahan. Oh, he played a nerve. Vic Fangio in In Chicago, Big Fangio vouches for him. And we make these guys to be bigger, and that's the problem. You got. Look at these guys for where they are right now. And I think so often people get carried away because these air guys that we know And we say, Oh, what is steel for the Broncos? Well, If they were such a steal. Why, Why're these teams allowing them to be stolen? Wire there, Not other teams trying to grab these guys. Again. I have no issues with the moves. You guys. The Broncos had cap space because drew locks on his rookie deal. They drafted Jerry Judy drafted KJ handler. They had money to play with. Why not use it right? I have no problem with that, And I have no problem with looking at some of these guys that have in the past been really good and said, Well, let's give it a shot. That's that's how it has to be framed. They were giving it a shot. We're taking a flyer. It's not. It's not that these guys air steals like the idea. Like Have we not learned enough to realize that the Broncos aren't stealing anybody from anyone? Right. The Broncos are no longer free agent destination. And immediately some people on Twitter talking about Oh, Patrick Peterson. The Broncos aren't a free agent destination like they were when Peyton Manning was here. And when that's not the case, John always job is to in terms of free agency was very easy when 18 was here, as in, as is the case for Brett Beach in Kansas City and If you're in New Orleans or Tampa or New England before that, Well, there's Bella check, so I guess it wasn't A fantastic destination for the top free agents. But you get what I mean. If you have a franchise quarterback guys, they're gonna want a flock there because they see the chance for success. Since Peyton Manning left. The Broncos have slowly deteriorated as a free agent destination. And when that happens, you gotta get creative. You gotta take some chances. And that's what the Broncos did with a J boy. What they did with General Casey. It shouldn't shock us that these don't work out. But the reason why it makes The Broncos look bad, like it was a failure is because when those guys were initially brought in, everyone was hyping it up to be like the steal of the century. They were They were risks. I mean, they were they were buying low on these guys. Worth Worth 1/7 round PICK or 1/6 round pick. Third round four through Absolutely Absolutely worth it. But if you can't break you gotta keep your expectations. Whoa! Guy. Keep him in the right spot. Or else you're gonna look at an age a boy or girl cases. Say, man. What a disappointment. There is a reason why the Broncos got them for what they got that Thinking was sound. Look a J boy, eh? The On on Evans since he was get the ball back to half you know, what are you doing? Just let them run the clock out. You get the ball back. It's an eight point game. You could tie it up you realize was the first time in Super Bowl history. That a Team scored all the touchdowns of players that weren't on the previous year's roster. I did not know that make sense. Yeah, it was the first time you said there's a lot of first and that's where the something's about circles is. It's a unique game outside of almost any other scope. But, yeah, that was the first time in Super Bowl history that you had Touchdowns. All your touchdowns were scored by players that weren't on the roster the previous year. So you had two from Garak. You had one for maybe, and then you have a letter for net also or touch, and I didn't even think about that. Yeah, even on the roster at the start of the year. Like that's that's how wild that is. None of the other grand quest, But when did he joined was a right away was early on. He was before the train is unfortunately camp. Okay, so he was the only one that was like, early on. And then? Yeah. Leonard Floyd letter for that was later And then maybe he was like, mid season, right? Yeah, That was the first time it was also as well. You know, we'll get into a little bit later on in the next segment. More so about the pressures it was the most pressures ever on opposing quarterback is suitable histories. We'll talk about that a little bit, but I thought it was kind of interesting with Bruce Arians, who was the oldest head coach, T O ever win a Super Bowl and I was thinking about Vic Fangio and how perfect Fangio also who got hired late in his career, like what It means that I'm looking at, You know the record history here, a Bruce Arians and what he's able to do. "You're gonna check out his book finding on Twitter at the underscore Coach underscore a. So we had him on and they were talking about Why Vic Fangio so great in the red Zone, right stuff. We've talked about quite a bit and something he brought up by the way. Is something that I think we've acknowledged that how important the safety positions are, too Vic Fangio scheme on how whatever success they did have, you know, being number one Red zone and whatever success they had the defense, it was only as a result of their safeties staying intact. If the safety's would have gone down and say the corner stayed healthy, this thing would've crumbled. Heartbeat in. That's something that multiple people have reiterate. But I love coaching love relatives is great with multiple people mention that part of the reason that Justine Simons had an air quotes down year and even though he didn't have a down year Was because he was covering for rookie corners on the outside and having to be out of position a little bit to adjust to the coverage failings there. And if he and Kay Jack had gone down, you're absolutely right. This thing would have been awful disaster abject disaster so amazingly. For all the hand wringing about how the Broncos defense performed by some people, it could've been much worse. Much, much worse, and it kind of sustained because you're starting safety tandem, which might be arguably the best in the league of not top three. Remained intact. But he pointed out something a couple of things that I thought were kind of fun, especially because you know Joe's out there on Twitter, and he's kind of pounding the table for John Watson, and you could go check it out. Joe Rowe underscore NFL He's just hard core on the He's one of the guys by the way, that is sort of setting up George Payton for failure, My opinion and I tell it to his face. I mean, he's just, you know, it's like if George Payton doesn't reach out to the Shawn Watson, he's doing a disservice to the Broncos fans. Yeah. Table that for a second. He asked coach a about Vic Fangio and the Broncos decision to retain him. Keep him here for another year, and he's like not only do I love that I think Vic Fangio actually should be in the conversation for least two more years. He's like, because at this point now you got a new GM in place. You're gonna have some new direction at some point, and you might even have a new quarterback. At some point. You can't exactly ask a new coach. If you give him a new quarterback this year toe all of a sudden you're gonna win with his new quarterback, or you're out of here. That's and that's the thing. That's what I was trying to convey to people like all those people who say that they hate Vic Fangio would also want a new quarterback. You really only you're going to get one of the other. Right. If you get a new quarterback Vic stay and more than one year because it's just not fair to a coach to do that. Or if you could stick with your lock, And if it tanks will, then you're probably cleaning house. But if it ends up being improvement on what you did, and I mean, we we had this expectation of this is a play off your butt. That's under the assessment that you're not working through another developmental quarterback. If you go and get a development of quarterback in the draft, where you really gonna hold Vic Fangio and Pat Shurmur feet to the fire on it has to be a playoff Your bust fire that dude, If you bring in a rookie quarterback and start him come on, That's ridiculous. Keep it if you brought into shot, Watson, I mean, sure you have deadly of higher expectations. I think we're all talking about playoffs. Once again, you know, he just came off a team that went we had four winds. I mean, you know that coach got fired in that circumstance, but that coach got fired also because of GM moves he made Vic Fangio isn't responsible for that. The other thing that I coach a said that is he absolutely things through like it's another year. He's like you have to give your lock another year. You've got to give him one more shot in Pat Shurmur, his offense. The circumstances, Whether you want to say their excuses or not, it doesn't really matter. The circumstances were so out of usual set of circumstances that you have to give him another opportunity. And so I thought it was kind of refreshing, and I wondered, you know how much Joe Rouse was clenching his teeth a little bit listening to it. But it was. He's a big fan, Joe guy, so I know he wasn't upset about that part. But the true lock thing, but in the end Outside assessment. This isn't somebody that works directly with the team. This isn't somebody that is in the media. This isn't somebody that is a fan called a spin doctor. Now outside assessment, saying Not only was a great decision to hold on to Vic Fangio. I even considers staying the course with him. Even another year in this thing, really fall off the rails and do like absolutely has to get another year And that's the thing. Reality is starting to city, and I think for everybody, they're starting to realize that what we've been talking about for the last two months. And is what's going to have. There's a reason like we're not a not a spin doctor. I'm just telling you how it is. Ryan's not a spin doctors just telling you how it is. Well, you know, we have it. We're fortunate enough to be partnered with the Denver Broncos, and when we get access to players on that kind of stuff, but they don't give us press releases to talk about. We don't get talking point. That's not a real thing. Like I don't know where that myth sprang from, But that's that's not a real thing. But we are privy to information we do have. In fairness, we do have a private studio in the Valley. When people talk about being a valley, they're not There we are. And so you know, I think that people don't understand that that maybe we might know a little more about what's going on. Than other people who misrepresent what it is that we do. You know, And so you know, all we're gonna do we're gonna give you the facts. You know you you don't need you don't come to us for. I mean, we'll give your opinion on it, too, If you ask, but we're gonna give you the facts were trying to give you the direction that the Broncos looking so that you're not misled. Well, the last thing I wanna do is gas. You guys up. Oh, Shawn Watson and Matt Stafford. And they're gonna get the clone Joe Montana and bring him back. You know, whatever, like the then set you up for disappointment so that you're mad at the organization. Why would I do that? Why would we do that? We just want to tell you where the organs ain't what they're looking at. What they think is realistic with long term plan is that you be excited about that plan. If you don't like that plan, that's fine. You don't have to like it. Sometimes I don't like it. But I'd rather be honest with you about what's happening. "That was another thing I want to remember. I don't wanna get any messages saying that we are holding our position. We're not holding anything. Let the hunt do that. We are advancing constantly, and we're not interested in holding on anything except the enemy. We're going to hold on to him by the nose and we're gonna kick him in the ass. Gonna kick the hell out of him all the time, And we're gonna go through him like crap through a goose. Can there be any better motivational speech and ready to run through a brick wall? It was like five minutes of that speech in the movie baton, but I mean, my goodness, That's the greatest So, Yeah, you know, that's not actually George Patton was the great George C. Scott is right, right? Not the first baseman of the Boston Red Sox. Milwaukee Brewers helmets the term tater. Oh, I do when I got traded for Cecil Cooper. Great, uh, for trail of Patton. So do you think, uh and Lord Fangio, still the coach of the Denver Broncos? Correct as a various stories maybe George Patton will talk about they're going through your defense like Label use Ugo You could play that, so maybe wouldn't be that code. That would be a be a lot of pressure by the way to have that name because they would expect him to let go to this press card. There's wonderful speech was like, No, I'm a different George Patton was so our new GM George Patton is gonna you know, talk to the Denver Broncos. Just Vic Fangio's kind of, you know, he's kind of an understated guy. Give a fire and brimstone speech. Think they let George Patton Get him going right before the game? Yeah, anyone? They only when it's Raider week. Oh, yeah, That's true. In fact, you could get going. So all right. So there you go. Very good. I knew you were going there. Yeah, George, come on. George s Patton, Old blood and guts but similar. Do you give the speech? It better be good. There's a lot of pressure and George Patton anyway, what you did, and Peter's every good even interviewed there. I do not know that. I don't think he did. I think it was Carolina too Nice. So you go and he Hey, was there you see l A when rule was an assistant coach there. So that's the connection with Carolina. Okay. So you go. Adam played linebacker for the U. C l A brillant. So there you go. Anyway. All right, Here's a great caboose story. Um, e guess this is the worst first day at work. At least that I've ever heard of this guy. His name is Carl Gandhi. Had a bizarre first day of work. It was self inflicted, according investigators. Gamba Harrisburg, Pennsylvania went into a restroom, injected himself with bath salts and fentanyl. During his first shift is a clerk at the Econolodge. As he stumbled out of the bathroom. He grabbed a female co worker from behind, kissed her neck. Then he took off his shirt, reportedly tried to get the women to kiss him as she yelled for him to get away from her. The woman fled. Dork are called 911 and later told police that is she drove away. Gabby yelled before you leave. I just want to show you something. And he took his pants off Hey was naked. When the cops arrived, a few moments say there's clothes were strewn across the lobby, and he used syringe was found lying on the bathroom sink. Now, this happened a couple of years ago. The reason why it's notable now. Is that he was he had finally just gone to court. For this whole incident suing for wrongful termination, but they do have a problem is they have video? Of course, that this happened in the hotel lobby and they do have video of it, so he was trying to overturn the incident. And ah, that did not go out a Z and high that we had a bad first day two years ago. So that's his first day first day at the Econolodge. Yeah, first and last What? They didn't know. What was this? What was his, uh, job description of the Econolodge? He was a clerk. I guess at the front desk. He was the hotel clerk made it. Yeah. Yeah, that's salts and fentanyl. You know how that goes for you? Apparently not stumbled out of the bathroom. I hear their center just be doing assaults by itself. You're fine, but you put him together. John, you could go. Oh, man, Con a lodger? Yeah, that's terrible. Who knew? Yeah, it would be the first person is what was his, uh, is defense. That is awful. Terminated. Guy was way worse. You didn't fire him after an hour. I mean, I know it's hard to find good help, but cheese man. And it was the first person to sit in the bath and think of assaults and say, You know what? I'm going to inject myself with these? I mean, I don't know it. Just it just gonna be have a special kind of money night in the A Connell lodge bathtub. S a girl said that yes. It said Nobody Then we talked about it. Hear on the radio. Where did this happen in our country? Pennsylvania? Oh, that's down. O p a Quakers? Yeah. Japanese police arrested a man on suspicion of carrying out of Syria's of toilet thefts in the case that as many baffled 26 year old man suspected of stealing scores of toilets from houses. When they were under construction. I found it to be weird. He's an office worker, one of the construction companies who he would obviously know, but what he was doing is is he was taking these toilets and he was reselling them in a secondhand store. But considering the actual toilets, American stand the actual toilets. Yeah, he was stealing toilets. And they're expensive..

"And then Matt Russell obviously in the mix as well. And so I think that you need to have somebody or or a few people like that around you if your AH player or legendary coach and you were jumping into the front office without having done the legwork of working your way through scouting. Well, BK. We appreciate it as a zoo. Always. I do have the initials game sitting here, So thank you. Sure so we don't get to talk about the quarterback. I'm not going back quickly. I'll ask you quickly when you when you heard when you heard that exit interview by Vic Fangio when he said That Jew lock can be the starting quarterback. What was your reaction? Well, I think he was one sending a message that drew saying this is certainly not your job, even if we don't trade for Sam Donald or Matt Stafford and don't draft a quarterback in the first or second round to come in and really, really compete with you. And the veteran that we sign is a nick Foles type or even a Ryan Fitzpatrick type. But nothing's given and also to your point or as you guys were trying to figure out. I thought we talked about a little bit earlier this week, but after doing a little more digging The new GM is going to have a saying. If you have a GM that comes in and says they hate drew lock, and they want to make a move now or they want real competition. Or they want to use the number nine pick on Trey Lancer or the Wilson Kid from BYU of their available or trade up to go get one of those Guys or even a Justin Fields. If you can get to where he is the then it will be the GM's call, just like the Justine Simons deal on the Von Miller deal, And all of that will be the GM's call. And Vic Fangio's future Beyond this year will be the GM scholars was obviously his assistance. So at the same time, there's a good chance that whoever they hire likes your lock enoughto want him to have a shot to compete because of how the organization has set it up. Order like to succeed with all the pieces they put around them the way the salary cap is structured, so I think that GM is empowered to make a move. I just wouldn't expect that any of these five people to this point will run your lock out of town before at least given him a new offseason with Pat Shurmur and all these young guys around him, all right, that's OK away. "And so I think it's important to have that continuity and that relationship with the GM now how much stay I think that's where it needs to come into question. I think it is. Okay for him to be in the interviews and ask questions, because I mean, he's going to be working very closely with this person in attaining players and making decisions. But when it comes down to you know when they're making the decision, say between Champ Kelly or George Payton, you know, I'm not so sure that vics word should should. Really count for whole lot. That's not saying that Vic isn't smart and shouldn't know. You know, be the person that makes that type of decision, But I think that for You know somebody like John Elway and Joe Ellis, who have been around the franchise for so long and know the direction that they want to go in and the franchise. It's important for them to make that decision, especially for a guy like Vic Fangio, who really next year could be his last season if they don't make the playoffs. You know, I think he's going to be on the out. And so you don't want to pick somebody that may not even be here after you're one of the G M, you know, first season, so I think it's okay for him to be in those interviews he needs Theo. Build. That relationship started off strong, but for him to make a final decision. I'm not so sure that that should happen. George Story of Broncos beat writer for the Gazette joining me here on drive time sports, So we talked a little bit about how I think you and I are of the same mind that John Elway is going to have at least an opinion on the future of Drew lock. If not, you know, be able to secure Drew ox future whether he even wants to do that. We don't totally know. That question, But the answer to that question, But I'm curious. Do you think that a new set of eyes on Drew lock is a good thing for Drew lock or a bad thing for Drew luck. Watching in the grand scream scheme of things in his career. I think it's a good thing I think you want to have, you know, multiple opinions and multiple voices, You know that that are telling you. Hey, I think you could work on this. That maybe you know John wasn't seeing or maybe Vic wasn't seeing whoever it may be. You know, I think that that That's good for your career. Now for his time in Denver, it may not be a good thing because somebody may come in here and let's say a champ Kelly or George Payton or Brian. Start with somebody Come in here and say, Hey, you know what? I don't think you're very good. Or I think you need to do this better. And if you don't, we're gonna We're gonna move on from you next year. Ondo. So in that sense of time in Denver may not be, um You know, benefited by a new GM, But I do think his career in the long term will be because it's just another perspective of somebody that could tell you. Hey, I think you need to work on this that maybe John can't see because you know he drafted him until he wants you to succeed so badly that he misses some of the things that maybe he's not as good at, or Vicky wants him to be good because he wants him to keep his job. You know, I think that it's never a bad thing to have more opinions in there. But a Zafar I mean, you could hire somebody tomorrow and they come in to say, I don't think you are the future and what Joe Allison Joe John Elway said is true that they're gonna have full reign. Then maybe dropped it in the starting quarterback next year for the Broncos. You know, maybe they draft a guy you know this April, or maybe they go after to Shawn Watson or Matt Stafford or something like that. So in that that's a short term. Yeah, it could be problematic for Drew. But I think in the long term and a benefit in Kansas Maybe it'll open his eyes to some of the things that he's not doing well. You know, we're just getting going Really evaluating? Especially when you talk about somebody like Trey lands. It's like we got to go back and we gotta find things entree lands and watch film and stuff like that. Some of these other guys, obviously we've gotten to see, Uh Albeit for a short season, But we've been able to see them regularly this year. From what you've seen understanding that you like everybody else will. Be doing more research and formulate more opinions as we get closer to the draft, But just right now, on January 7th how many quarterbacks in this draft would you take over Drew lock? And that's tough. Um Definitely too. I would if I could get my hands on Trevor Laurence or Justin Field. I think I do it. I think Zack Wilson is right there with him. Maybe, uh, you know, he's a guy that I think is really talented and has a shot to be really good in this league, so I would maybe put him in that category, too. Don't think I take freelance because I haven't seen him as much. Um, you know, I think that he's going to be a good quarterback. I just You know, I don't know. You know, he only played one game this last season, so it's hard to say. On Ben. I think the other one that you would even throw into any of these categories is Mack Jones on DATs, a guy that I've been saying Now, if he doesn't work his way into the first around, which you very well could I mean if Alabama goes out Implies a great national championship game and goes down test well in the combine and those sorts of things. He could very well be a person on quarterback, and he may already be one but I think he's a guy. If you can get him in the second round, you take a chance on him because I think he's a guy that can come in and compete with Ju lock from Day one. Now that's not to say that you'll be better than to lock. I think he's a He's a big product right now of all the weapons that he has around him. On. Do you know some of the lack of the defense that he played in the SEC right now on, But I know some people be mad at me for saying that, but that's the truth. But, you know, I think that he's a guy that you could look at even train lands of freelance for for some reason what to take. Um, you know, a drop into the second round. I think you might take a risk on one of those guys and bring him in because I think right now, if you can't go out and get him out, Stafford into Sean watching or you can't draft Trevor warrant. Or just infield. Then you have to stick with your lock because he is getting better. I mean, I wrote about it today. His last six games improve dramatically over the last few games of the season, and and he's taking the steps. But you know Trevor Laurence Sean watching Justin Fields maps after those guys there are generational type talent on def You could get your hands on one of them. Then I think you take the risk. But the other guys, I think you know if you can get him in a later around that maybe you take a chance, even a child Trask if you could get him in a third or fourth round Out of Florida. I think you may you may take the risk there. So, um, Wiley would never do this. But let's play the hypothetical game. Why, Matt Wylie says George, I want you for this weekend and however long a certain team last in the playoffs. You're going to go cover them for the Gazette. Which playoff team would you want to go cover?.

"He said. If you're keeping score at home, Jo Alice, who's gonna be gone off his next season, John Elway contract up after this next season, he might stick around in the president kind of role, but You might also say, Hey, Joe's Leven. It's good time for me to get out. Who knows where the teams at that point, maybe new owner and they may even say, Hey, John, leave on your own terms. Whatever that looks like he's point that out. And then Vic Fangio is on the hot seat like we can all we can all agree to that. I mean, even the most ardent supporters of Vic Fangio and like some of the directions that he's going He's got 12 wins in two years, and they're not all on him, Certainly, but he's the head coach with the team as they have not been able to do more than that, so We can have context, but we can also have real conversations of this year. He's gonna have to kind of put up or shut up. That's how it works. I mean, if it were sales, and the sales department has been struggling for, you know For a year and the head of sales might not be a guy. It's out there, selling We're not selling if they're struggling, but he's gonna be with the buck stops. You know, they're gonna eliminate some people on the gun, Eliminate some sales. People gonna limit the head of sales and you know he wasn't getting salespeople to perform. And so that's that's the way that goes with it with the head football coach. You may or may not be his fault. I need to one of the things I'm gonna do. Um over the next month or so is I'm going to lay it because the one thing I am tired of these people talking about clock management issues that have no clue what they're talking about. Eventually gonna write this up. See, people can see and I'll lay the math out so you could understand it and plenty of easy terms. Vic Fangio is actually ahead of the curve. The guys that really smart, it's just people don't understand what it was he was trying to do. But he doesn't get the benefit that out right now, right, And he does it but which he should because he's been around the league 40 years and seen plenty of clock situations that that was kind of my point about Andy Reid last night, right? Is that any re gets the benefit of the doubt. He screws up and more boy, He's he's lost games in the postseason because of clock management. But you know what? It's great regular season coach and he finally one another. Well, it was his first championship wasn't it was the because because he lost it with Philly, right? The thing about 80 for a long time. Andy Reid was called to the Marty Schottenheimer of the past exactly right, because he because that's what he was, like. Basically, Marty shot ever stop throwing the ball, he would make the Edo instead of playing it. One way to play the exact opposite way, and it would cost himself playoff game. But I think I want eventually get the conversation. I'm glad I love what you're saying. They're about how you love to kind of show people exactly the reason why a lot of these things happen. But I think what a point I'm hoping we get to. Maybe it is a soon as this season's over right this next season, a point to where Got calls a gut call. You make him right. You're in the midst of the game. You're going through exactly what you think should be the right answer. And you know, if you it works sounds great. You make that calls all the time because the head coach of making duck calls constantly. It gets highlighted when they don't work out and you lose a game like the way you lost this game or any other game that Titans game it gets highlighted when it didn't quite work the way you wanted it to. But I'm hoping at some point people will get past the vic Fangio doesn't know what he's doing, and that's why he made that call and get too well. Is it got called, didn't work out. Hopefully, he learned a lesson from that, and the next time he's in a situation makes a better call. Right and high tech radio guy gets to yell at it and craft segments out of it and then not explain what actually happened. Everything about that being a good call. Could you get the nail on the head there? Is that while the play clock may tell you If there's a certain amount of time. As a coach. You got about 10 seconds to make that decision. Right. You've got to get that it because it's got to be relayed. You gotta have that decision ready? You gotta be able to get the personnel out on the field. Those personnel get out on the field. You gotta have the quarterback be able to get the players the defensive linebacker safe. You just get the got Get the play in everybody in line to get ready to go. So this idea that well, he's got 36 major. He does. He's got 10 seconds to make that decision to the calculus in his head. Listen to the advice of the year set and make a call. And I'll tell you anybody who's ever cold place and the coaches to listen right now. I know exactly what I'm talking about. Besides on Madden Yeah, I'm talk about real life called. Okay. Sorry. I was trying to get you on the side in the pressure cooker world of madness much these years setting like the NFL. I just try to get you to laugh, but I was too on the nose. You're good. I'm a mom. One tonight. Um If you've ever been at the high school football coaches, you know this. You get down in the red zone. You try to get accelerated. Gonna play going. Get your You know how it is. You got 10 seconds to get that in there, and you got more clock in high school and college. Trying to get those plays and get your personnel and get him lined up getting ready to go. It's a sign that people don't recognize that people have never been in that situation. Just don't they just don't know. And so your average fan just sees the TV broadcast. And they think well, you know, he's got all this time. And you also have no thoughts now works, Man you got you got a collaborative process going on your headset and taken to 10 seconds to make a call in front of 70,000. People live well in a normal year, Not this year. And millions of people watching around the globe. Yeah. Guys. I mean, look, we we've seen coaches crumble in those circumstances. Certainly have Vic Vance Joseph. Crumbled. Oh, absolutely. No situations was not prepared to die. I'd interview him because I was on orange blue that time and I I interviewed him afterwards. Obviously, the runway is getting shorter and so When I first got into this job, I was hoping for the opportunity some point kind of be able to move up into the role that I'm going to and be able to oversee things and still being connected with the Broncos. A part of the Broncos but not running the day to day operations. No, no, it was big Al in Georgia, right here on K away yesterday afternoon. Elway, who has one year remaining on his current contract that the new general manager will have final say on the roster, but will be expected to work with head coach Vic Fangio to build the team. Former C U boats All American linebacker Matt Russell has been always pro personnel director and right hand man. John describe him yesterday for the last decade Rather than throwing his name in the ring. Russell is opting to retire from football after working in personnel for two decades following his injury shortened career in the NFL. The Broncos were eager yet the search for the new GM underway. A six other franchises are also looking to fill vacant general manager rules. The Avalanche hit the ice yesterday to begin a short training camp before the season starts a week from tomorrow. One of the newest AVS defenseman Devante gives him the team acquired via trade with the Islanders in the offseason, talked about how cool is playing for Joe Sakic player he looked up to growing up near Sakic's hometown outside Vancouver. You know Burnaby Joe is what we always refer to him growing up, and you know there's streets named after him and burning me that I've driven down T go to different hockey rinks and whatnot, so he was kind of Tall figure when I was growing up, and you know, I want to want to have lunch games when they were at their peak, the Avalanche over the season that ballerina next Wednesday hosting the Blues, the Nuggets looking for their second straight win tonight, as they play the second of a home and home with the Timberwolves. "Logan right before the Broncos and Raiders matchup. Now we take a listen to my recent pregame conversation with the Broncos head coach Vic Fangio. So, Victor second opportunity for for your club to face the Raiders. You think back to that previous game, and it was a game that I think was a little bit of a microcosm in terms of how the season is gone. You guys You make some plays early. You're right there and then a couple of key turnovers right for half time. And after all of a sudden, really close, competitive game gets away from you. Yeah, we had a chance there. T O go in at halftime. Would've lied and we turned it over there and then early in the third quarter. We had a hard time stopping the months and critical third downs and allowed them the score on their first drive field. Well, I believe, and then we you know, turned it over some more. And you know, it kind of broke loose there and got away from us. You know, for people that don't that, you know, maybe completely understand the game and that that would be That'd be a lot of people, probably in terms of the NFL game, but when they when they see A team that is continuing to fight in terms of not giving the ball away. You guys have had 32 giveaways this year. That's that's ranked last in the league. But what can you do? If anything? To sort of get that thing turned around. How does the head coach and how? How will the staff address that issue? Because obviously, it's a key issue. Well, I know from the quarterbacks perspective, I know Mike is Mike sure has gone back and every week looked at all of our interceptions. They refuse him withdrew. And see if he can come to any conclusion if there's any common thread, So we look at him each and every one individually and collectively. And see if we can find something that may be. Undermining and helped cause these interceptions. And we do study it Since we're talking about the quarterback position, Let me ask you. Hopefully not an unfair question, but a tough one is you look at Drew lock from the start of the season until now, right getting ready for the final regular season game. I mean, in terms of his decision making, have you seen the kind of improvement that you you need to see that you hope to see? Yeah, I think At times we have the times we haven't. I think it's been more times than that. It's been good, but when it's not been good, those are can be disastrous Place. You know, as it was last week in the Red Zone and And the Red Zone interception you were talking about in the first Raider game, so I do think he's made strides there, But we've Had too many. You know when he hasn't read it writer made the wrong decision. Words come back to bite us pretty hard. Welcome back and continue our conversation with the head Coach Vic Fangio. First these messages on the K O a Broncos radio network this year is gonna be better than last year. Bit better be right way..

The Baggies had five scores in double figures today for Air Force. They just had one that was Nick Jackson. That ended up with a team high 11 points. Air Force just really Had trouble today defending Utah state and they didn't shoot the ball particularly well. They shot it 50% in the first half, and when Utah State really pulled away, they shot only 37 a half percent. From the field. Right? Like is the case with college basketball in the mountain West this year, Air Force will get another shot at the AG ease and just two days time they'll play Saturday at four. I promise you, but ah, it will be a different year. And like opening day, hope will spring eternal. Hopefully, you got some safe but fun plans for New Year's Eve. At the very least, watching the fireworks on Pikes Peak tonight. And spending time with The people. That is a good idea to spend time with. Are you? Can spend time with 5 to 29872 got a full hour, the style of today's show. Is looking back at 2020. I am not. Ah, you know, I'd like to say that I'm different than other talk show hosts. I can't. We can't help ourselves. End of the year. This is what you do You talk about the sports the previous year, and I am no different than anybody else You've heard on this station over the last few days. But the one thing that I bring to the table that others on this station don't is. I have a local lean too much of what I do. And in that vein What's driving the show today will be what's driving the year. In Colorado sports. These are the three stories That I believe are the most significant in Colorado sports in the year 2020 disagreement with me If you wish. In fact, I encourage it. But let me give you The three stories that are driving the year. Aziz, You're driving home. Here are the three stories that are driving drive time sports. These are in no particular order. They're just the top three sports stories this year, In my opinion, laid out for dramatic effect here is story number one. Hurry to Yokich. Murray trying to get it shot clock winding down, Murray puts up a thready bang Jamal Murray from town. ESPN on the call. To me. One of the top three stories of the year must be Michael Malone's comeback Kids the Denver Nuggets in the NBA bubble in Orlando down 31 in a serious not once but twice. Find ways to rally from three went down to beat the jazz and rally from 31 down to be the L. A clippers before ultimately falling. To the L. A Lakers. And in so doing What they did. In these playoffs. I think that the Nuggets got to another level in the NBA, not just because they made it around further. Then they did the year before. But there's a line of demarcation here that once you play for conference title once A trip to the MBA finals. Is only four wins away from you. You are now considered among the elite teams. In the MBA. And the Nuggets are absolutely that now. And mainly, the way they were able to rally from through one down twice is bubble. Jamal Marie. We have yet to fully see this year. Maybe if he plays tomorrow against Phoenix. It will be in a new year, so won't count. But the Jamal Marie have gone at the very tail end of 2020. Not like the one we saw. In September, but we saw along with the Nuggets individually, Jamal Murray. Rise. To another level. To become a true star. In the MBA. We saw more of Michael Porter Jr than we ever have before seeing the potential that he has even getting a little glimpse of Bull Bull. This Denver Nuggets season. That occurred in the year 2020 to me. Has to be one of the biggest stories. The team that Throughout its history has been looked down upon not nearly not even closely considered one of the best teams in the MBA rising to this level and also Rising to this level with the expectation that they will be back regularly. There is an expectation level now and maybe that's part of the reason why the Nuggets, they're struggling out. The gate is they're struggling with the weight of expectation, but the expectation is that Nuggets are going to be here. They're going to be challenging. To go toe in MBA finals. For the next couple of years. And that's a lot of pressure because Windows Championship Windows windows to compete always close. Quicker than you think they will. But the window it for contention is open. For the Denver Nuggets, and it was in it was last season, but certainly in the bubble where we saw the Denver Nuggets. For the organization that doesn't skip steps They took the very next step. Which was playing for a chance to go the MBA finals. And in 2021. We'll see if they realize the potential that we saw in them. In the 2020 season. I hear is Story number two. Second down and six for women away inside. That's an interception by message. The defense of end comes up with the pick their 8th 4th quarter turnover this season and NFL high for the Broncos lock is thrown. Three interceptions and the defense of Lyman Nassib comes up with the play. Kevin Harlan, CBS on the call. Think about how we felt about Drew lock. After 2019 This time last year, Drew Locke went for in one he had the game he had against Houston. And much of the conversation around drew lock. Was have the Broncos found. Their franchise quarterback. And a year later, we're having the same conversation, but it has a different tone to it. Last year, it was Lot of intrigue. Quite a bit of hope. This year. It's an open question. It truly is a question. Have they Through locks on core. His first full season as a starting quarterback in the NFL is absolutely one of the biggest. I mean, this this show Almost every day. Discusses something drew off related If we had one of those, what is that word webs. That they do for social media that words that you or the words that come up on Google searches the most they make really big, and you kind of see what people are searching for what they say on Social media..

Fangio's patience with Lock pays off in big win for Broncos
"Heavy victory monday broncos country. It's always happy when it's victory monday. The broncos taking care of business against the miami dolphins yesterday was just what the doctor ordered. Twenty two thirteen was called a complete team win by so many people starting with vic fangio and then working through the organization all of the players calling a team win. We'll hear from vic fangio here coming up whilst from a happy and relieved drew lock but the broncos dominate on defense six sacks the interception for justin simmons late in the game to seal the win ryan fitzpatrick in and relief at two of who had been knocked out and it was a bunch of people getting in on the act in terms of taxes. John williams with me read. It was bradley job. It was draymond jones. It was demarcus walker. They were all they were all in the mix so it was good to see a complete team effort yesterday. Special teams really. Good they neutralized yukimi grant the stud returner for miami and it kind of relations. You what you thought this team could be. I guess maybe reminds. Isn't the right word but indicate shows you what this team can be when everything comes together. I know that can be a big. If but coming off the effort against the raiders to come back home a team that six and three that had won five in a row to buy low playing great as a rookie and to completely baffle him. Stifle their offense. Just thirteen points are lone touchdown coming early on a really nice catch by devante parker but just a great great effort. And you're on the ground for one hundred eighty nine yards you. Get eighty four for melvin gordon. Plus two scores. Yes the fumbles. Concerning phillip lindsay make plays eighty two yards on sixteen carries. Actually were tied both at fifteen carries for eighty four yards until lindsey was dropped for a two yard loss late in the game and and that ended up being the the difference after the interception

Broncos running back Melvin Gordon cited for DUI
"Melvin Gordon just got a Dui did and the Patriots may or may not have cam. Newton. So good luck job go ahead. Yeah. Let's. Let's start with the broncos because the story for the broncos. A number one is we'll drew lock play that's number one but the story for the broncos. was going to be what would the rotation look like with Melvin Gordon and Philip Lindsey now, the question becomes is Vic Fangio going to discipline Melvin Gordon. Normally the NFL waits until the investigation is over to hand out discipline for things like that but that doesn't prevent the team from doing so so let's see if it does Melvin Gordon get benched as you know the old college coach thing he said a quarter you know does he sit a half does exhibit game I don't know that's something we're going to have to research this week so I would bump up personally Philip Lindsay on my personal depth chart if I had him just on the hunch that big could move on. And and. Put Melvin disciplined him. Somehow they're not gonNA cut him but like disciplined him somehow.

One up is that Gordon in the end zone, Gordon goes up makes the catch and he's got a Denver touchdown, Driscoll says. Even though back Quarterbacks don't get a lot of reps in practice. NFL Week 2 Monday Night Football
"I thought Mason Rudolph all good it from what I saw just looking at the numbers this morning in the first half half with primarily big Ben I know he departed at about the two or three minute mark of the second quarter or with a two or three two or three minutes remaining in the second quarter rather but you look at the first first half steelers four point three yards per play forty two percent success rate with Big Ben in the second half five point nine yards per play fifty two percent success rate with Mason Rudolph off. He looked pretty capable. There's a reason they moved dobbs so I think you know things. Look a little better for the steelers offensively. The problem album is Mike. Tomlin's defense fell apart in the second half gave up eight point eight yards per play in the second half once. Big Ben goes out right. It's on you Mike Tomlin. It's on your defense inst- to step up and shoulder that increased load instead they regressed right in the eight point eight yards per place in the second half doesn't include the the monstrous pass interference appearance. Call there on edmunds for additional thirty eight yards so steelers. This is kind of the fear we had. We kind of just assumed roomed. It said Hey lady on bell didn't play all of last year no Biggie they seem to make up for that but all of the losses on offense Mike check the offensive line coach. Now you're dealing with James Caan as well left with a knee injury. We'll talk to Dr Trial about that. One see what he says now. You're on the road traveling across the country face San Francisco. It's going to be interesting to see. It sounds like you'll be Mason Rudolph under center yeah very very interesting to see how some of these things kind of play themselves goes out and you always wonder how these teams rebound with some key faces that may or may not be there and of course the steelers staring down the barrel of that Owen to start. We'll see if they can get things corrected as you alluded to their trip on the road to San Francisco but as is the right of oddsmakers and better like you typically see overreactions in week two by the time you get to week three or starting to get a better sense of who some of these teams are and identify how these numbers need to be set figuring out for some of those situational edges so when we look at the look ahead lines for next week pay not a ton of overreaction in the market by any stretch you do have the packers on a look ahead number go for six and a half point favorite now to more than a touchdown touchdown chalk against the Denver Broncos who have to wipe themselves up off the deck knowing they let a glorious opportunity against Chicago bears. Get away from spot on Denver had their heart's ripped out. There obviously not going to have their early season altitude advantage here like they had a week ago. There's whispers within the locker room not all the players. Here's Love Vic Fangio's old school coaching style. If you start doing oh or you win a game like that and you're one and one suddenly players let that slide by but when you're in two you now you're an eight point underdog on the road. Let's see if they can overcome that once. Leflore script were off though for Green Bay and the Vikings woke up the packers offense was back to sucking again and you look into doubt just on the day four point nine yards per play for for the green offense the final three quarters the packers offense averaged three point two yards per play a forty percent success rate and Rogers had zero explosive passes fastest final three quarters so still some things to figure out offensively. They're for Green Bay came out with their hair on fire much much Dr Chagrin but that was kind of after the first quarter the the pace and the output we we kind of handicapped and projected there for the Green Green Bay offense yeah and they even gave were gifted at touchdown for the Minnesota Vikings when they turn the ball over to take that fourteen nothing lead out to twenty one but we're not gonNA cry over spilled. Milk will continue to look get some of the numbers for next week to massive point spreads. That'll remind you a lot more of college football than they will the national football league. I couldn't even tell you in an historical context when you're GONNA see two favorites favorites of this big magnitude pain look ahead number for the patriots thirteen points. Now I know Sam Darnold of course was factored into this look ahead number with him. Being out regardless of how the jets perform tonight against the Cleveland browns you're looking at the pats a seventeen and a half point favorite yes differing numbers on the look ahead. One shop had the look at as low as ten. They actually produced that before the Sam Darnold News obviously so you have patriots than Bennett. They've outscored their opponents now. Seventy seventy six to three you know Antonio Brown is a go. It looks like a real factor and it's not just Sam Darnold. That's going to be down again right. There's other guys that have some injury question question marks for the jets interesting see where this number goes right. I think there's going to be a lot of movement. Obviously it's not open everywhere right now but you know trevor sending in the jets pull off off an upset tonight or if they get blown out this number is going to head in different directions right. I think if the jets get blown out you're probably looking at closer to twenty if they somehow pull off the upset victory probably turning back down towards two touchdowns.

What are Chuck Pagano's plans for the Bears defense?
"Now Chuck Pegado he replaces Vic Fazio who went from Chicago to Denver. He is the new defensive coordinator of depth buyers trademark me your thoughts was well. This is the one that this this instigated the article <hes> thinking about Chuck Pagano because you lose Vic Fangio. Who is I think along with Wade Phillips the most most respected affected defensive mind in the game right well bill belichick sort of on an island up there by himself but you know throw in Romeo Coronel is another guy who's respected but we don't really we know what Chuck Pagano is? He had one year defensive coordinator with the Ravens where they finished third in defense with Ray Lewis Ed Reed Terrell suggs and then he went to the the colts and he never really had much town to work with on defense now he's token over a defense that is almost sure to regress to the mean just because they had a sky a high turnover rate loss very few games to injury last year and cannot and fifteen percent of drives with an interception like they did last year especially especially That defense every week to make up for their offense. I felt like an if you're if you're in the situation Pagano. You're going to get blamed from their earliest part of the season. It doesn't go well. Why would I want to take over some for someone who floundered before me you come in and you look on the other hand when you have a chance to work with Cleo Max Akiem Hicks Roquan Smith Dan Danny I mean they're absolutely loaded Jackson Kyle? They are loaded and yet. I think it's a tough spot to go to for for Pagano.
