"You know, technology has moved on with CFD, et cetera now, but there's definitely a need at Mercedes to get some more real world data. Hey, final talking point from you. I want to get your take on this Sebastian Vettel as of recording this under investigation for riding a moped on the track. I understand FIA wants safety. They want drivers and Marshalls and everyone working event to be safe. Like it's hardly Mansell giving center a side pod ride in 1991 at Silverstone is it. I mean, it's not that dangerous to see Vettel on a scooter, taking himself back to the pits. When the session had finished, but why is he in trouble? There's a strict wording of the FY regulations that say drivers aren't allowed on track without permission from Marshall's, I think this is 5 minutes after the session is finished. So instead of that explains to the closed car and stops in FP one, they try to get it going on meeting and it wasn't possible. There's moped appeared. So it was off the lift, but I don't think he likes being a bit of a backseat passenger. So he said, can I ride it myself in the last of the year? Sure, go for it. Now, whether that meant go for it and ride around on track or yeah, go for it, make your way back around there. Access roads are not, we don't know. So I think both Sam and the Martian involved were someone to see the stewards. I mean, it is a safety thing. And I think on one side, you can see it is important that drivers aren't just run onto track because you can't tell what's happening 5 minutes after the session, especially because finish your kids appear to be over in a car's gone off somewhere and medical cars running around. So there are genuine grounds for this boat. Hopefully there's some sensible outcome for the stewards or common sense comes to the fore. But it's definitely give us giving us some iconic images surface has this habit doesn't even have just doing something on every Grand Prix weekend that becomes a meme. So he's done it again. That's the thing, right? It's an image. It's one of the most viewed images of the weekend so far, with him with his helmet half off, so that he's been criticized for having his helmet resting on his head. And at times waving to the crowd with both hands. And yet, in the same sentence, will people will say, oh, these are the best drivers on the planet, and then be criticized for riding a scooter with his hands off the handlebars. You know, like every 12 year old kid does. So, I don't know, we'll let yeah, clearly safety is priority, but hey, come on. Let's have riders scooter around. And gave a bit of a wave to the fans as well. So let's hope that nobody gets in trouble over that. A sensible outcome is required. John, thank you so much for joining us on the Friday podcast today. You're off to Italy. And then Ferrari saying that they've got some engine upgrades coming like this sounds ominous, but it's so good to have, well, that's a we're impartial, obviously, but for the organizers and for the fans, so good to have Ferrari back at the sharp end as well. One of the big fears going into this season is that one team would get a massive kind of head start or get a massive leap and everybody else and we just end up with a run of one twos for that team unchallenged which will then kind of take the shine off the season. So I think it's great that the Ferrari the Red Bull fight is so tightly poised at the moment. We'll be about development and I think both Ferrari and Red Bull will be rolling out the upgrades coming from imola onwards. They've been quite light so far in terms of upgrades. I think it's due to the fly away nature. And the impact the cost cap because everyone's trying to play as tactical game of not spending all their cash too soon. I think it's good for more on that for us up there. It's still an iconic team. It's still an important team, a lot of fans around the world. And I think, you know, hopefully Mercedes can get their act together, can get into that fight because of three way fight involving leclerc, Verstappen, Hamilton, Russell, signs, Perez, all three of them, all 6 drivers and three teams going at it would be absolutely sensational for the second half of the season. Absolutely. All right, thank you, John, make sure that you check in and read what John's writing over the weekend at autosport dot com and motor sport dot com. You can follow John at noble F one on Twitter to see.

"You know who's going to buy the escalator? I think it's going to be bought by a lot of racing drivers who cover their own vehicles. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I could see that. Because if you're rolling into the paddock and you need something to scale and size to tell you about your power boat or your race car or something and you're doing it yourself, and a lot of people just enjoy doing it themselves. Yeah. Then this would be a cool thing to turn up in the paddock in. Yeah, it would be. And you know it'd be beautiful inside and comfortable and it'd be great. So I can see that. What's going on? What's going on in your world? Another thing that excited me over the weekend that I just never catches on in the U.S. but I was watching the Monte Carlo rally and there's a guy called Sebastian Loeb, which hopefully people listening to this will know. I went on the acropolis for rally when I was like 22 and starting out in this world. And the EU is about three years older than I am. And he was this really young French king Carlos Sainz and Colin McRae were driving for Sichuan in the world rally championship. And they were both unlike multi-million dollar contracts and superheroes in this little French guy who barely spoke any English at that time, turned up and was just mighty. And they couldn't get over how fast this kid was. And here we are like 2020 something years on. He's 40, 8, next month. He just finished second in the Dakar. He could fly straight from the duck car to a test of a brand new rally car, which was a puma, which is Ford's little SUV in Europe. It's a puma hybrid. He turns up in the north of England to test this thing. Tens have been Monte Carlo. Takes on Sebastian ogier. I think he's an 8 time world champion. Loves a 9 time world champion, and at 48 years old beats him. I did get the two of them who've got 8 and 9 world championships each. Then they were taken on all the young guns and were just in a different league and it was just it was a bit like the Verstappen Hamilton in Formula One, the two of them just kind of took each other to another level. And it was just an incredible story. And what made it even better is that sebs now won 79 world rallies. He also finished second at Le Mans for Persia in a prototype. All sorts of stuff is extremely all sorts of things. He turns up, it a normal co driver isn't co drive for anymore. So he turned it with a 50 year old lady who had been he had done some testing with him over the years. She's a part time math teacher. Yeah, I was gonna say she's a teacher. Yeah, this is a teacher. She's 50 years old. He's 47, nearly 48. They get in the car. They dust everybody. They win the Monte Carlo rally, and it's just such an amazing story. And if you look the so much onboard footage from, you know, if you go across Twitter or any social media. And I know rallying doesn't really do it over here in the same way. I know Ken block came over and made a bit of a bit of buzz around it, but it's just extraordinary to see. And this guy must be right up there when you talk about the best ride drivers actually the best drivers. I mean, he was mighty at Le Mans. He's been mighty in everything he's done. Finished second on the dark car, flight the UK when the flight to France win the Monte Carlo rally go home. It's just fantastic. Yeah, it was an exciting weekend. I saw all the news and the buzz around. It certainly through Ford and the brands in the sponsors that were pushing it. But yeah, I saw some of the in car footage and always just blows my mind when you see some of that in car rally stuff. And you see this guy just haul an ass sawing out the wheel and someone's just sitting there reading a book next I'm going, yeah, you're gonna turn here, you're gonna turn there. They never even look up and see what's going on. I stare at my phone when someone's driving a car for a few minutes and I start to get sick looking at my phone. I can't imagine drive it like bad out of hell. It just read to map the whole time and talk it to somebody on my head to go and yeah you're gonna turn up here and you're gonna turn it up there and then some of the clips some of the carnage you see that there were showing just someone goes, they make it, they're flying through the air. They hit the turf. They go straight. Somebody just misses and they lawn dart off the side. Then they always cut to the in car footage. Here, they got going, oh shit. You're like, my gosh. There was a mighty crush with one of the pumas over the weekend. I think that's also on social way. He literally just powered off down a ravine. I've been on those Monte Carlo rally Rhodes. It's like, you know, it's like going at the canyons near LA, a lot of time there are no barriers or even if there are Barry as you go over the top. And then they send cartwheel down the cliff and yeah, and then the next thing you see is catalyst guy going out backside first and you're either okay or you're not right. I did I did a rally many years ago and there's a British co driver in the fortune got killed a couple a few rallies later and the treat where you hit a tree and you know it's still it's amazing what they walk away from, but it's still a dangerous sport, but yeah, I mean extraordinary skill, incredible stuff. Yeah, it's the whole thing is kind of nuts, but it was kind of exciting to see and congratulations to them for winning. There's a lady to go back to teaching at this point or she gets some kind of bonus maybe. I heard that maybe AC back in the classroom on Monday. And what I like about lobby actually both, but certainly about Sebastian is he looks 48. You know you get, you know you get these like Bill, obviously who don't look. And the guy looks 48. Look at the pictures of him, you know, he's got these kind of like weather beaten face, he looks, he looks a bit, but he was like a championship gymnastic gymnast at his teams. It is teens, so his signature is doing a back flip like a standing back on the podium. He was still able to do that at 48 as well. So he's like, it's like, I don't really like hero worship people, but he's pretty much up there in terms of yeah, you know, just in terms of skill sets, amazing. Yeah, by the way, I like that shirt you got on there, Bill. I knew you were gonna say. Big man's wearing his Provo sure. Make sure we get some screenshots of that at some point. Is this an alcoholic beverage that you might have something to do with? Yeah, it might be. Tell us a little bit. I guess we got to get into the EV part of the discussion at some point, so why don't we just touch on that for a minute? Tell us a little bit about the Hyundai. Because you guys got your hands on, is the ionic. The ionic 5? Yeah, the ionic 5, which is looks like something out of the 80s. It's also it's a cool looking car, sister car to the Kia EV 6. Yeah, we've been really impressed with it. It starts to cut the car we had was like a fully loaded dual motor all wheel drive thing, which was like 56 grand, but actually that's not really, I think where the sweet spot is, the sweet spot.

"There's enough in there to say where it wasn't his fault, but equally. He puts the car with the car goes, if that makes sense. So you could chalk that up as another down now. And it certainly costs in points because Norris is so close, Mercedes can't just let Bottas sit behind Hamilton. They have to construct his championship and pays them back later on in the season. They have to take the two four as opposed to the three four. But if Norris wasn't there and being so brilliant, Hamilton would have finished second, even though the damage car. So yeah, it's just interesting the little that the little subplots of those races. So for those keeping score, French GP Verstappen, Hamilton, Perez, styrian GP Verstappen Hamilton Bottas, an Austrian GP Verstappen, Bottas and then Lando that third place. It was the Austrian one, was that the outpouring of love on the radio from Lewis about Lando, was that Austria? Yeah, as a good ten or 15 laps that Hamilton takes to get past Norris after Perez has gone off and got the penalty when he's running second is absolutely cleared off. Yeah, there's Lewis gets goes by Hamilton says great driver, Lando, which I think is interesting asking nice about that afterwards because I think also he was so annoyed about that penalty. I think all his answers were sort of had the sort of cloud of that hanging over them because he was so annoyed he didn't get second place. But yeah, he sort of, I don't know, he's kind of interesting. You put that to the drivers. There's such competitive animals. They're not exactly going to go, oh my goodness, how wonderful it is to hear that from doing Hamilton. No, I should just like go, okay. All right, well look, we definitely can't wrap Silverstone up into any group of races because we need to talk about that. Lots of interesting things about that Saturday spring race, of course, at Silverstone, but it was the cops incident that, after that race when we did a podcast with our own Ben Anderson from GP racing magazine, who has raced through that corner three wide, who says, I think he agrees with Kevin that a perhaps a wiser head on Verstappen would have realized there's going to be nowhere for Lewis to go look is that with all the hindsight now recording yourself of the season, is that a fair criticism of max that he could have given more room or was he always going to race in there and try and close Lewis off, what do you think? Both, I think, yeah, he could have given Lois more room, but as we saw throughout the season, he wasn't going to was going to make that as hard as possible on your max to him. It was his corner as we saw from all the fallout that followed, and for all the comments by Christine Horner and helmet Marko calling Hamilton desperate amateurish. You don't stick a car up the inside at cops and all of that. It was, yeah, it was very, I think this was the first major flashpoint of the season where things got nasty and things spilled over and yeah it was a big big incident and I think that looking back even with hindsight, I think the way that the steward handled it, I think that was correct. I think that Hamilton was predominantly at fault very marginally, but I think he was more to blame than max was for that incident, but was not fully to blame. Again, the steward's report said predominantly, so did put some of the blame on max. Yeah, and I think that everything that followed with the God that Alex album reconstruction on a filming day and everything, it was a pretty crazy story and it sort of dominated F one for a good couple of weeks where we were just sort of seeing everything go back and forth and the aggression from Red Bull as well in its comments about Lois and his move. But yeah, I think it was, I think, I agree, a max definitely, yeah, he could have left more room. I mean, Alex mentioned in Spain earlier where Hamilton thought was going to happen. I was like, oh, I better get out of this. Max, yeah, okay, so much higher speed, but he could have definitely left the bigger space for Hamilton, but that wasn't going to happen. We know through this season how max has been in those wheels 12 fights like he's very aggressive and he makes very clear look I'm not moving aside. And that resulted in a huge huge accident. Alex watershed moment? Absolutely because of how much it changes the points gap as Luke said 32 points after Austria, a massive Verstappen is walking to the title. But what happens at Silverstone is the reason why he doesn't end up as the number one driver in our top 50 rankings in my F one top ten and why I still believe that it was ultimately the difference in why he wasn't for me, the best driver of the season. And it's because of what Lewis Hamilton has shown, time and time again in his career and he showed it in this season. If you want to win a world title, there are moments where you have to go, I have to back out of this. I have to take 18 points and not 25. And bearing in mind Verstappen only what three or four races earlier has lost 25 points in Baku. Yes, he was gifted, Lewis Hamilton, not winning 25 points in Baku by the magic button incident, but he's got to think just on this one occasion I just need to leave him that little bit more room. Now Hamilton equally has gone right. I can not afford to back out here..

"All. Good year. More driven. So Ryan McGee, this is the part of the show where I typically declare that I have another story I want the listener to know about, but I actually want you to do that job for me because you are also you contain multitudes as well. You are also our F one Formula One racing correspondent and the grand finale to this racing season is happening on Sunday and F one, obviously do the Netflix series, drive to survive and all of the drama we've seen this season. It does feel like there's a bigger footprint for this sport in America and the Internet. Then we've ever seen. So where are we on the temperature check of this sport that you also love? It has been no hyperbole needed here. One of the greatest, if not the greatest driver versus driver one two showdown in the history of the sport. Max Verstappen, 24 years old, a son of Yas, his father, who raced forever, been going to the racetrack his whole life scared of nothing, intimidated, by nothing. For the first time on U.S. soil, Max Verstappen wins the U.S. Grand Prix. Yes, guys. And then Lewis Hamilton, the old guy, right? In his late 30s now. That is the checkered flag as the winner of the Spanish Grand Prix for Lewis Hamilton who strengthens his grip then at the top of the table. They go in to the season finale. In Abu Dhabi this weekend, even in points. Winner take all. The highest finisher wins the championship. It is so rare to have seen this in any form of motor sport. If you had gone to anyone who covers motor sports in October and said that Lewis Hamilton could finish the season on a winning streak that would win this championship and overcome a seemingly at the time instrumental points lead, you just laughed. And here we are. It's almost as if the guys won 7 championships with more races than any job in the history. Right? And that's the part of it is fascinating is for stopping such a cocky kid and I mean that as a compliment. Race car drivers need to be that. But it's in his head a little bit now, the way these races have been going down and Lewis Hamilton is the grizzled old veteran now. As hard as it is for me to say, as someone who's covered him forever, but it could potentially be the greatest final race showdown in the history of Formula One. And I'm here for all of it. I also love how this sport takes us to Abu Dhabi and in order to understand what's about to happen in this all time showdown in Abu Dhabi this weekend. We also need to go back to what happened last weekend in Saudi Arabia. There's a real Carmen sandiego vibe whenever I talk to you about the sport McGee. So what happened there because this feud, this blood feud now between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, it was also at the forefront last weekend. Yeah, and honestly, this happened in the last two races. For folks who watch IndyCar racing, another open wheel sport, the rules are different. You know, in Formula One, there's a team of stewards. This group will make a call in the middle of a race and say, you raced him too hard there, or you were blocking him here, or there are certain ways that you should drive through certain corners on these racetracks. In Brazil, Lewis Hamilton attempted to go around or stop and stop him brake checking. Here goes Lewis Hamilton. He was last at the start of the sprint. He's trying to take the lead from Verstappen, but he is false wide by Verstappen. I've been stopping himself. Has to go off the track. If Verstappen drive Hamilton off the track. I do. They didn't run into him, but Mercedes will think that. And later on, Hamilton went around him again. But he's weaving all over the road and he's going to force Hamilton wide again and Hamilton can't quite get past on the entry into turn four didn't happen for him. They spent the last couple laps of the race, their teams lobbying the stewards. What are we going to do here? And the storage are like, well, you're going to race. And they will figure out what happens after. Hamilton pulls ahead of Verstappen before they get to the corner. The crowd you're absolutely wild. It is third time lucky for Lewis Hamilton. He has gone from last all the way to first. What a drive Hamilton has come home to win the São Paulo Grand Prix. He's not ready to loosen his grip on that championship trophy. Not just yet. And then we had almost a bizarre replay of that in Saudi Arabia. Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, how much damage on Hamilton's Mercedes what has happened there? And Hamilton has now got past Verstappen. Hamilton is going to give us level pegging in the championship as he comes home to win the first Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Formula One is at its best when is as much about the drama off the track as it is the racing on it. And quite frankly for years, the off track, soap operas all they have because the on track racing wasn't very good. This year, the old track race has been the best ever been. Certainly among two title contenders. And so when you throw in wheel to wheel racing and then hurt feelings and then teams lobbying for help from the stewards and all this goes on for weeks and weeks and weeks. With amazing racing and then now we're going into the finale. Dead even all points, best man wins. I mean, if this had been written into a bad Sylvester Stallone racing movie, which there is one, don't ever rent it. We would laugh it off as there's no way. And yet it has happened right here in front of us. So if the world championship is gonna get settled on Sunday. And all the stakes are about as high as anyone can imagine. How do you assess what winning the thing would mean to each of these guys individually? How different are these propositions? Even go so far as to say, what it means for just a Formula One in the future. Because it's a quote the great philosopher Ric Flair to beat the man you gotta beat the man. While Hamilton's the man, and until someone stands atop that podium with that world championship trophy that is not Lewis Hamilton, and he's won 7 of these now, tied for Michael Schumacher for most auto record, no one thought anyone would ever approach. If for stop and were to pull this off, this is a changing of the guard. This is a 24 year old with a new money team in Red Bull. That will have knocked off Lewis Hamilton. The winningest driver ever. And, you know, does Louis Hamilton win another championship? We don't know. This might be his last chance. So McGee just to be clear here at the very end, there's no award that I should also be lobbying for your vote in F one, is there? Is there anything else that we need to reform here before we declare you the Tsar of everything? I mean, you know, I mean, I'm sure there's a Hall of Fame. I could be vote on over there. So I still don't vote for the NASCAR Hall of Fame, either which all these NASCAR Hall of Fame voters will call me on their way to go vote to ask for Hall of Fame and go, hey, now what's the story on this guy? I'm like, so I'm not bitter at all. No, I haven't noticed that McGee. I can tell you have no resentment on the fact that American democracy continues to cheat off of your homework. Well, I'll tell you this, we're going to find out who actually listens to this podcast and who doesn't. Because as soon as anyone hears me complain about any of this, I can already think of a couple names or people are going to call me and go. Well, now wait a minute. So we'll see. Just to be clear, I always love it when we can cheat off of your homework on ESPN daily. And as one who used to cheat off others on work, I appreciate that effort. I'm Pablo Toure and this has been ESPN daily. Our show is produced by Alexander hyacinth Mike Johns, Ryan and tell Mike philbrick and eve tro Chris to Manila and Aaron Vale. "Direct tv. Dot com compatible device required. Content varies by package. We're back grain. I've been looking up all kinds of stuff about watkins. Glen during the break cannot believe. I didn't say it just because it's like the one random course name. I know maybe. Next time i appreciate it though. We mentioned it earlier. Currently seven races left on the schedule for f. One this season though. They're keeping a to be announced slot on the docket. Just in case there are any other courses better able to have racist up next on the schedule would get the russian grand prix in sochi on september twenty sixth last year's podium botas verstappen and hamilton. This was the race that hamilton got a couple of five. Second penalties for doing practice starts where he wasn't supposed to do practice. That was a weird one Easy win though for mercedes last year. And i think you said earlier. This is attracted. Generally favors mercedes. Is that the case. I a yes. I believe a since two thousand fourteen. We've been holding this race seven times. I believe mercedes has all seven of the races. They have been incredibly dominant in so g. So i think certainly they'll probably the favorite going into this weekend especially Given how strong. They looked in monza despite shirl the mania that caused them to not win the race. They still looked great. There and i think that will favor them. In sochi that being said if max can win in russia that that truly feels the ushering in the new era for him to win and attract where nobody but mercedes has ever won that that starts to feel like. Oh maybe max is is really gonna make it happen this year. Maybe they got a chance. Reynbolds been doing a lot of things this year that they haven't done in the past so far after the russian grand prix. We've got a couple of weeks off between races. After the singapore and japan grand prix were cancelled due to the pandemic up next after russia the turkish grand prix on october tenth last year's podium lewis hamilton atop first place. Sergio perez finished second for racing point. He was followed at third by sebastian. Vegtable racing for ferrari. This was the race that gave lewis hamilton. His seventh world championship was the first poll for lance stroll last year. It was very cold and rainy. There was lance stroll canadian. Compared it to driving on ice in canada boathouse finished man compared to driving on ice in finland. But i think this was in november last year so maybe not quite as cold. Is this a good race. Generally the turkish grand prix was a fairly new one on a you know they brought it back. I think last year to fill in after we had so many cancellations because it co vid certainly was a great one. Last year was great from beginning to end. Whether was the exciting land straw. Poll all the way down into that. Very last corner where you saw leclair mak- failed to overtake on peres. Have dental slipped by him with just a fraction of the lap left actually steal the podium from his ferrari teammate. At the time it from end to end it was really exciting. Really great hopefully it is again. It's what made it so weird last year is that it was. There was new tarmac recently repainted. It was incredibly smooth. So that combined with the rain made it really crazy I'm interested to see whether bat you know. If in dry conditions it has yet similar effect but certainly last year it was a great show. Let's hope it does again. Yeah the slipstream team is saying. It was race of the year last year. So that could be exciting. I mean you know. Spa was a dud. But the next you were fine and we've still got really close championship between verstappen and hamilton. And then in the constructors as well. There's still much be decided that'll be awesome but feels like a million years from now to be talking about a race in october. In the meantime we've got some other f. One content consume net flicks just dropped their michael schumacher documentary schumacher. This past wednesday to coincide with michael's debut in formula one thirty years ago. The documentary uses archival footage to tell the story of schumacher's rise to prominence his world titles his driving career and his unfortunate ski accident and subsequent brain injury from which he's been recovering since. I cannot wait to watch this graydon. I'm sure you're excited as well. Were you a michael schumacher fan. I would be lying schumacher fan. I came into the sport after him. Although he is a. I will say this as a guy who never watched f. one as a kid growing up or even into my like early twenties. I really only had heard of two individuals. Michael schumacher aired center Right so for the for him to have cut through the noise and to make it to an american ban who wasn't bad sport. I mean i think is somewhat demonstrates his greatness. I seem very cool to hear more about his story in detail and his family. I've see young magsi shots of that. I think will be cool. I'm really looking forward to it. I can't wait. I knows that schumacher's one of the all time greats and for me. I'm kinda like you. My first exposure to formula one period was just hearing the name michael schumacher because he was always like the highest paid athlete in the world and it was mind-blowing to me that there was another michael out there who is more famous than michael jordan. At the time. I was deepen. Sebastian vessels wikipedia the other day and he said growing up. He worshiped the three michael's schumacher jordan and jackson. But he couldn't say he couldn't play basketball so he became a driver great stuff. I cannot wait to watch this. I know these really excited as well. I have to get that guy on to chat about this as well grading. Thank you once again for joining us to talk about fast. Race cars everybody. Please go follow grading on twitter. That's at mr gordian. He ghost wrote a song for drake. Pretty exciting stuff graydon. I don't know this might be the most tweeted and lights tweet of twenty twenty one tweeted drake working onto takubo into a line is going to be tricky. But he'll figure out something and then he did and then he responded to an instagram repulsed of your tweet. Saying i only did this line because of this tweet. Do you have a follow up.

"Are five correct answers there. Five correct cancers. Five of the current drivers on the grid are former champions. In in i second tier it was called. Gp two and then formula two. But let's just call formula two per simplest which which by drivers are former formula two champions mix schumacher correct Max verstappen incorrect. Charlotte clare cracked lewis. The correlation was between general success. If you look through the whole list of formula two champions tons of them are nobody's F once i was actually shocked. How few of them have succeeded at the next level. That surprised me. So what did what am i score ended up being here. Okay hold going into the bonus round going to the bonus round. This is this is late. there's a couple of gimmes Ones the united states grand prix. The united states grand prix has occurred at six different locations around the united states in its history. It's actually technically been at ten but only six of officially been part of the f. One calendar only counting those that have been a part of the f. one calendar six of them. What are those six places. What are these just to clarify. I'm talking about the us grand prix so for example next year the miami grand prix will be miami but that is the miami. "No doubt within the and you pit later than your rival on purpose like the undercut they picked i to go out on fresher tyres sooner the overcut. When you've run longer you might do it okay. His tires you're slow to reach temperature. 'cause they are. Your tires are degrading very slowly because the difference between hard and soft very minimal. There's a variety of reasons but that is a but that has nothing to do with where you're at in the race moore so managing your tires with regards. I mean it has to do with your competitors whether you competitors pitted before your after is fundamentally the and whether you're doing that intentionally whether you're you're over cutting cutting come on. That's that's a little bit of cheating. I feel like if there's an undercut there has to be overcome right unless you're very next lap then i feel like it locks it and then that means you just got undercut. Yeah Okay this one may have heard Martin brundle mentioned on sundays. He loves this term around. It was a very important factor at zandvoort. What is camber. What isn't timbre. Camber is the bank of the turn. Okay actually i'm gonna to. I'm going to give that one to you. Because they did refer to that as camber in zandvoort they did call that the camera that is not normally how they use that term but i think brundle literally called that. So you're getting a point for that however noor normally when people talk about camber actually the angle of the wheels in relation to the front of the car whether they're turned in or out or they're straight up. This is a neutral camera. Negative camber in a positive camber in it has to do with whether they're flat or how they're how how much service area you have on turns and things like that. That was also the famous thing in the mercedes. Das system last year they could adjust the camber by moving in and out. Okay good one. Last of terminology. This is going to be critical. A critical component of the new twenty twenty two regulations is ground effect. What is ground effect ground. Effect is when you have cool. Led lights on the underneath of your floorboard. So when you're flexing in the parking lot Highschool you look like the coolest guide not just like you have the loudest car not like you've got the deepest sub workers but you've also got very cool ground effects underneath that. "Don't want it to be like that. I want our team to be a little bit more less tension You know working together and then handing off the torch eventually. Honestly i don't i gambled gabaldon is in this sport to win. I think that he fully intends to continue to compete for titles. I think he sees his teammate. As somebody that can take away critical championship points from him and if you look at the relationship that he had with nico rosberg which was just absolutely venomous it. I think that. I'm not sure. Will i think they'll pose both parana. Better public face than him in nico. Did i think that him in russell will do a much better job with the pr management of all of it and you'll certainly a russell's a guy that hamilton's known for a long time as a young british driver who's come up through that system now. He has known the kid for real time. But i do think for right now. Hamilton is not interested in seeing russell succeed. He's interested in succeeding awesome. I can't wait to see that. Actually go down starting next season. Our final headline is from motor sport. Dot com williams signs looks elbaum for formula. One return in twenty twenty two. Is this news. This is absolutely this is easily for me. The biggest shocker of the signings. That happened during silly season. It's it's for a lot of different reasons. First of all once you fallen out of the sport of f one fighting your way back in is incredibly difficult. So i think a lot of us wants album got dropped by red bull presumed that that would be the end of his formula one career as much as i like the guy he just didn't perform at the highest level the way that his team expected a but rebel stuck by him. They fought for him. They fought to get him back into the sport. I think this is also a really interesting choice by williams because what it does is it signals where they see themselves headed which is that. They want a young driver but a driver with experience in a top team who can hopefully help them fight further and further up the midfield. This is a very different than going with. A guy like bowe toss who is towards the end of his career album could potentially be here for many years depending on how things shake out so i thought i thought to me. It's it's of course. Album took any cd. Could get but what i think is most fascinating is what this says about the williams organization and their priorities and what they see as their potential with f. one now they've already had a pretty solid season this year. You know getting on the podium getting points even latifi. It's been and points. I think they got their first points. Maybe at hungary right before the break and then obviously russell ended up on the podium at spa albums. A legit f. One driver he struggled big time with redwood the first time around i do think he is a legit f. One driver. I think that he had the it's a it. I think that a lot of it's more mental than pure talent and that you know. Hopefully that something he can transcend here. I think that the raw driving talent is there. He showed that throughout his use. Any showed it. You know Earlier in his career when he was with toro rosso. Atari i forget which was a guy then and then he you know i think i think the thing we underestimate and we saw this with gaza we salt with albion and now associate with peres is how hard it is to be the number two driver matt red bull. That car is designed in every single. Facet or max verstappen. I think max or seven is incredibly intense guy to have as a teammate and people have always famously complained about how difficult the red bull car is to drive. Sometimes wonder if max is outside is talent disguises just how challenging car that is to handle. It's not surprising because he's so many guys flounder in the number two seat there. I personally am excited for album to have another shot and think you'll be just fine. All those deals are in place for next season deftly added layer of intrigue that all this happens during the current racing season because i don't know like boathouse signing with felpro. Mayo he like heck. I'm just going to go drive my best. And i think that's really awesome. That's all for next year for right. Now though i'm going into the number two seat to look like a total four grading your message me the other day saying you wanted to ask me some formula one questions for once in our lives. I'm ready to look ridiculous here. I know you got some sort of quiz prepared for me. It's f. one trivia. But are we seen or in a test trays knowledge. I've tried to some of the challenging sound. I think you'll know but we've got twenty points twenty trivia points on the line here so let's see you know. One of them are multi points. So let's let's ten questions. Twenty points at stake let's go. We've got three categories in a bonus round history terminology in the current grits starting with the history of the sport with seventy one races. What f one course holds the record for most grand prix held at it. It's seven nine. What are gonna guess silverstein. The british grand prix is that right. There just seems like there'd be a lot of driving there that is in crowded incorrect..

"Join the team in two thousand. Twenty two on a multi. Year deal this one's gonna be news. This is absolutely news in fact this has been a little bit predicted. There had been a lot of chatter in rumors that he was going to offer male right up until the last moment. I didn't believe it. Thou jury came to mercedes from williams. Williams has a mercedes engine. Toto wolff has a very strong relationship with williams team going back to when he was a partial owner of the organization and had said one of his priorities was going to be taking care of valerie in these upcoming years. I just always thought at the end of the day williams is gonna take boundaries. Their second driver. That's that's gonna be the guy. So i was still even despite all the rumors a little bit shocked to hear it absorbed. I think but i will be interested to see that being said it kind of fits with alpha males strategy not just swapping one finish guy for another but swapping a you know a kind of an elder statesman of the sport a guy who's been near the very top of the grid ito So that guy can come in and hopefully be a steady hand for the team help with development. Hopefully help maybe Shepherd along a younger driver. That's what they're hoping to get out of. Botas simpler what they've gotten out of rugged you mentioned in earlier he's going to be there number one guy sure seems like what do you expect from him as a lead driver on a lesser team. I think it's tough. Alpha male is in a really tough position right now. A i'm not convinced that they're going to be meaningfully more competitive than they were in this year. They don't feel like they have a lot of momentum going into so. I do think this is going to be a challenge for valerie. Back in the midfield scrapping. Despite what he did it monza in all brian overtaking we saw he actually from times from time to time has struggled when he found himself stuck in the middle of the grid. Even in a mercedes car So i think that's going to be all the more challenging in an alpha. I you Veltri cracks me up. But i i'm not super bullish on the idea that he's just gonna crush it in that seat so i'm not mistaken. You drive an alfa romeo. Now don't you. You're gonna get a battery sat or something like that. I guess i guess. I gotta be get a new favorite fan now yet. Totally botas guy over. There are third headline also from formula. One dot com mercedes announced. George russell will partner lewis hamilton in twenty twenty two. This is sort of news. Everybody expected to come. Is this the best possible. Pairing and formula one grade firmer. Sadi's it's definitely the best possible pairing and is it just period point blank. The strongest driver do on the grid. You probably yeah george. Russell is an exceptional talent. Guy looks to be among the kind of the next generation of top your talents with hamilton. You're talking about a guy who many considered the greatest driver of all time I think this is going to be it just electric to watch. It's going to be so fascinating to see what russell can do in a mercedes is going to be wild to watch. The team dynamics play out and see to what degree they try to make russell into a number to what degree does or doesn't accept that. And how hamilton continues to play or if he will play games inside the paddock with his partner. Because i that hamilton at times has been very difficult driver to be teammates with russell as a young guy has existed in those sorts of environments to date. So i it's gonna be really fascinating. I think it's going to be a real trial by fire for russell but we're also definitely gonna see him on the top step sometime next year. Do you think that he'll win. A world championship with mercedes. Russell i think so. Yeah do do you think like hamilton will take his experiences being a teammate to fernando alonzo when he was a really young guy and say. I don't want it to be like that. I want our team to be a little bit more less tension You know working together and then handing off the torch eventually. Honestly i don't i gambled gabaldon is in this sport to win. I think that he fully intends to.

"Despite the d. n. f. i am going to go with pir gaz late The dna was not his fault In in in monza. And i think that He is i think that he drove great. You know before it also had a you know a a really strong qualifying in belgium. I think he's done really well number two. I'm gonna go with danny rich. You know who. Obviously i think deserves big time. Praise for what he did it monza and despite having a week a dutch pre coming eleventh again also had actually Had done a pretty well in belgium. Itself papa you know. Put it in p. For on that day says was starting to show flashes of what would come and then for number one from the restart. It does a lane but to be honest. I think it for me. It's got any max bringing home. P. one points from two of the three races even though he didn't finish iman and it was only half points to belgium. You know. I think you know the way. He's performed in qualifying winning two out of the three. He's the guy who's who's performing best through these first few not bad. I also got max at number one. He had. He was on pole position. For all of these you know after the botas stuff happening with the qualifying you was his home. Race took the championship lead. Top to argue with that. I got botas though at number two here. Two p. three's including winning the sprint race. Then battling back after. He had his power unit penalty. He had a hilarious reaction to maximum. Lewis is crash. And i just think it's been kind of impressive. How well he's been performing after all the news about george russell and alfa romeo and everything came out to see both us basically have his best two or three races of the season so far and then my number three you mentioned earlier. Charlie leclair three points finishes andy outdrove carlo signs in every single one of these so far we had him as one. We had signs over leclair as one of our biggest surprises during our first podcast so i was impressed by what leclair's done in ferrari during these past three races here. Yeah i did that. Make sense i think we even. I think we said at the time if clerk just cut out these dna than start bringing across the finish line. We'd probably see him. Start your resigned. He's done that. I he's he's doing a great job. He is an easy great drivers. Are that's our drivers of the tripleheader. Let us know the youtube comments or on twitter. Who you got for the drivers of the tripleheader these past three races. We're going to take a pit. Stop real quick. Get some fresh tires and talk silly season after the break. Summer's coming to an end. And the leaves are about to fall down here in atlanta the grass is also gonna turn brown and then always freaks me out a bit because i think. Oh no oh boy. "For her chick. Yes i it's i i had never seen anything like it and i- ridiculously watched all four hours of and i. I'd never seen anything quite like it. I throw a russell. I mean the guy i cannot believe. He put it impeach you to start the race. That was incredible. That was one of the great qualifying drives. I've ever seen in all of my time watching f. one. I've never seen a guy in a in a car that just doesn't compete with those at the very top of the grid. Pull off something like that in qualifying which tends to equalise against the car as much as the driver and then but on the race itself for me. The big question is an i love. You think this trae is you. Should we have given half points. Should people have been awarded championship points for having had no competitive racing on sunday. Some people are saying yes. 'cause qualifying itself is part of the competitive. You know part of the competitive weekends. We were saying no. I don't. I don't know how i feel about it. I'm being quite honest. I know it's half points so it doesn't technically count as much as any of the other races you know. Everybody's points are getting adjusted so it kind of does. It just didn't make sense to me that they couldn't just be like all right. It's been raining all day. let's do it monday. I know it's all because of travel and that kind of thing but maybe that means you can't build in a triple header. Which makes it impossible especially when you're going to one of the most famous tracks. One of the most beloved tracks on the schedule was just very strange to me to be spending four hours watching these crazy rain plumes come up and then at the end they gave points away. I couldn't believe that that it would be like if they played three minutes of an nba game than the floor got wet and then they're like. Yeah but we're still gonna count it. You know like. I'm looking at the schedule. There is another slot. That's open for this. They could've easily not easily. But they fear radically couldn't moved the belgian grand prix. To one of these. Open weekends or something like that was just a. It's very strange to see a a race. Basically cough and still have it count just as much as usual. I don't like seeing the half points there. That's the thing that's really throwing me off. It's unprecedented and to be honest back occurs. I don't think we need to make too many rules. I've heard a lot of a rule changes or to rethink the half points. The one thing. I will say this clearly happened so infrequently I don't know that we need to go adjusting a bunch of rules to account for such an edge case scenario that being said clearly. It's a little awkward. I don't think anybody's thrilled with the outcome. Least of all the organizers of the race of the faa but it is what it is yeah and williams was certainly loving it. they celebrated george russell's p to like it was any other race which they should because they crushed it and qualify. Like you're saying they just had the perfect timing and the perfect tires every single time they went out but we also have a scary crash in qualifying landau. Norris went aqua planning also known as hydro planning here in the united states at all rouge had a big spinning accident at ratty on came basically less than a minute i would say after. We heard sebastian battle on the radio saying we shouldn't be driving. There's too much standing water. On the course he was right behind. Landau north kind of a cool moment to see him. Stop and making sure that landau was okay which he was but we talked about how famous these corners are on the last podcast. And then i saw a lot of stuff in our group chat. And i saw a lot of stuff Post race saying do they need to change these corners other cars too big and fast right now to be able to handle this kind of downhill stuff. Yeah it is a good question. I think at this point rouge ready on while two of the iconic corners in in the f. one calendar you have to ask yourself if a blind corner that you're taking a dead speed is is acceptable His is something that we should continue to have here. So i think i think it's something where you know. What sort of. What sort of adjustments could we make you know. I'm not sure whether it's about extending the expanding the gravel trap on the far side. Or whether it's about you know changing the angle of the corner of talk about how there's a service road just beyond the fence. So that's why you can't move the corner in some basic sense. That's ridiculous. i get a road but you can move roads to. You're talking about moving track or changing. Things that to me is is is kind of lame. Excuse if what we're really talking about is driver safety. I think at this point at the various what it is is. We've seen enough incidents there that we need to. We've seen it of incidents that we need to say okay. This deserve a serious. This is a serious attention. How do we make sure that this is a a safe corner. The truth is is what happened with. Norris is nothing compared to the tragedy that happened with antoine who bear a just a A couple of years ago where he lost his life. Or if you happen to see the crash from you know the w. series where there was a pile up with a number of the women drivers that was luckily. All of those women were okay. That was a very scary incident so arguably this is something that's gonna need addressing..

"Part of me. Does he want it. Of course he wants it because everybody wants to be a seat where they're genuinely vying for a title which i'm sure ghazi would think he would if he were among the top two teams but part of me almost doesn't want for him. The the difficulty driving the red bull car the political complexities of that organization. He doesn't have to worry about any of that he is. He is absolutely driving that opportunity on the limit he is getting. He squeezing the most points out of a possible. He's becoming the darling of the midfield as he does it. I just love watching him succeed. In of course has he earned another shot at a top team in arguably he's proven himself to be a truly talented driver in arguably driver. That could win a world title if he was given the opportunity but i'm also loving seeing him flourish versus. You know that half a season that he spent it red bull which was kind of torturous in awful to watch as he floundered around failed next to max so yeah i there's i go both ways on it. How do you feel about peres in the second seat this year. Do you think this has been a successful year for him. I mean verstappen is in the lead red bull as right there with mercedes in the constructors championship. And i think that those are i mean. Obviously they wanna win constructors. But so they want max to win and he needed a reliable second driver. Peres has been very up and down. I feel like he's better on sundays. Like he's definitely a great race driver. He's had trouble qualifying but is he. Is he the better choice. There in the second seat is he. I thought he was going to be like you know challenging for fourth. I thought he was gonna maybe get his way into the title picture just because he seems to do well on sundays. And it's been a little bit underwhelming. I think i think peres is absolutely been underwhelming. I understand it's tough to drive a new car and that's always going to be a challenge to come in and get accustomed to it. But i also think that peres is is too high risk of driver you know you find himself taking when actuality what red bull needs is a guy who brings it across the finish line in the top five reliably. I think if you if rebel ends up winning the drivers title but not the constructors title. You have to put some of that blame on perez and his risk tolerance throughout the season in his aggressive style of driving and sometimes sloppy choices. He makes like you know his clearly illegal. Overtake of leclair at monza. And then his unwillingness to give the place back he would have had clinton pibe to retake charles actually finish in fourth. Had he done that but the mere fact that he didn't causing to get a time penalty in finnish even further down the grid. I think that that these sorts of mistakes are you know. I think that they are. They may end up costing red bull. The world thailand. I it is a good question. would gaz lee doing a better job at this point. Certainly you could make that argument while the dutch grand prix wasn't the most exciting race but at least it was a race which is more than we can save the belgian grand prix. Everybody was excited for spy. We couldn't stop talking upgrade and everybody was even looking forward to a little rain except for nikita pin. I'll say that he's like. I want it to be dry which that guide definitely wants it to be dry because can't stop spending but every other driver was like off. Hopefully we get a little bit of rain. Not this much rain thanks to an ongoing downpour. We got the shortest race in formula. One history one official lap graydon another two behind safety cars but one lap is what goes down in the record books literally zero racing on sunday. But it's still counted. Max for stap and got the win george. Russell came in second after an awesome day. Qualifying ann lewis hamilton finished. Third top ten only got half points for the race. So we've got point fives everywhere. It looks ridiculous grading what happened at spa. I mean this is my favorite races the year so and i said that out loud on this podcast.

"Definitely would not have predicted that. Certainly and especially after a the way things had gone in the netherlands zanzibar. you know. we're we're danny didn't have an incredible race you know. Neither of them had a great race to be honest. So i i think that they certainly didn't look like danny's fortunes had had flipped quite yet and that being said it made sense that mclaren was very competitive at monza with design of the car with the mercedes engine. I think it was well suited to the track. I wasn't surprised to see them being highly competitive. But certainly i would have presumed that norris would would be on the top step well before danny as i think most anybody. What if any. I'm very impressed if you're if you're the person who call. Yeah if you're that person. You're probably in australia. Likely say and. It's going to be danny rick atop but i was super. Impressed led the entire race as well like he had a great start. He dusted verstappen into the first turn and it was basically over. It was just a matter of pits and hanging onto the end. Pretty great stuff. You mentioned it mclaren. Dropped off quite a bit. That was their first race win since two thousand twelve. How is that possible. you know. I think they really struggled at the beginning of the hybrid. Engine era They've had you know they. They struggled with their old engine partner in honda before honda had moved over to red bull. There was no budgetary issues. There i think they had a lot of organizational changes at the at the at the top of before zac brown come in. So i think there's just a they just had a lot of turmoil inside the organization but they managed to right the ship. You know rebuild the right way You know get great. Drivers put together a great organization. You know back in woking at their headquarters and. I think that it's incredible what they've done. I think it's a script for other teams most notably say williams to follow teams. That are storied great. No they can be great at half defined way back from the very bottom. Mclaren is a great example to follow of how to rebuild an f. one organization and then it's really exciting when you finally do rebuild it and you get daniel ricardo. Being the guy. Who's on the podium as ronald mentions so great to see another. We celebration from daniel ricardo. I one hundred percent agree. Everybody was hoping he was going to do it. He did not disappoint. But it wasn't just daniel ricardo. he also made landau. Norris do a shoe as well landau said he was happy he did it and then he helps. You also never has to do it again. And they even made their team principal. Zac brown do it. I was dying laughing at this. Apparently us just kind of kept it cool and didn't mention that ricardo has never made him do a shoe. Because if you end up on the podium with this guy. He's making you drink out of his shoe. I went on wikipedia. I looked this upgrading. Currently three hundred seventy-one words just about daniel ricardo's formula one shoe he's made verstappen hamilton lance stroll and nico rosberg do it when they were on the podium. He made christian horner do it. He made retired driver mark. Webber do it. He made gerard butler and patrick stewart. Drink out of his shoe if you get up on. The podium with daniel ricardo. You're tasting his feet. There's no doubt about it. Would you like to drink from issue. would i like to get warned. You would offer. Yes absolutely of course. Of course i'm going to do it. I'm getting i'm guy you know. Just i'll try anything once you've learned from danny It sounds like you haven't Excuse me had anything from shoe. What's the grossest thing you have drank from. That's not true. I have drank from shoe. I used to play a little club rugby and did it with a bunch of australian guys after batches. They would absolutely do that. It is awful if you can avoid doing it. It is at all possible. I'll try not to. But i don't know i don't know i know an australian. I can't believe lease never tried to encourage us to drink out of his shoes. Maybe we see. That's that's maybe that's a pick and maybe that's a punishment that's a good pick. 'em payoff do make it. Yeah i love it last couple things about it before we move onto these other races second sprint qualifying of the season at the italian grand prix so on friday we had qualifying sprays qualifying. Valerie voss finished p. One on saturday. I think it ended up being eighteen laps of racing. Botas wins the sprint race. Finishes on pole ends up having to start from the back. Because i think he got a new power unit. Is that right correct. We've seen two of these sprint qualifying races now. Do you like it too in all right. I'm going to admit..

And of course we're joined by our local f. one expert and drake's ghost rider. Great and gordon graydon. What's up dude. It's going on guys. Great to be back. I am very excited that we are here for upset too. Yeah no doubt. I'm very excited as well. And i noticed today that i randomly shows mike graydon gordon coffee mug say that this is from your wedding when you got married to a person whose name starts with t but i think this is when the podcast was first born great and trae september twenty seventeen waterston f one race but you could tell. It was coming along soon enough. I'm with you grading. I've been expect to be talking f. One again so soon but the people demanded more. No brakes hit the d. r. fast-tracked episode because a lot has happened since we did our last podcast about a month ago. Not only do. We have a tripleheader of racing. We also went through f- ones silly season we learned about some big names are going to be moving from team to team even got some new net flex formula one content. It's been a busy couple of weeks. We'll get to that stuff in a bit because the big story this past week no doubt was what went down in monza. So let's tackle the racing tripleheader in reverse chronological order. Who are these guys. Were starting with the italian grand prix for the second straight year at monza. A wild podium your winner for the first time since one thousand eighteen daniel ricardo joining him in second mclaren teammate. Llandough landau norris a. Mcclair in one two right there in third place valerie. Botas from mercedes. Lots of drama in monza great gets mclaren in a second. But we gotta start with the crash between championship rivals max for stabbing and lewis hamilton. I don't know if you're watching this podcast. Listen to this podcast shirley you saw kind of started to me on lap. Twenty two of the race. Ricardo have been leading this entire thing he hits. The pits gets new tires. Next lab verstappen does the same only. He's held up for about eleven seconds in the pit. Pretty crazy considering rebels usually one of the fastest nonetheless. Hamilton pits there. After he's held up for four seconds doesn't seem like a long time. But it is when you're used to getting out to when hamilton comes out of pit lane. He's basically wheel-to-wheel with verstappen. They touch a little bit through turn one than they really touch through turn to verstappen hits a sausage curb gets launched on top of lewis hamilton. Literally on top of his car landed on top. At one point you could see hamilton. Trying to duck the wheel. This pretty crazy stuff just another controversial incident between the two title leaders grading gotta hear your take on this. Is somebody at fault. Is this a raising incident. Whatever you got give it to me. They i actually am going to say that. The faa in stewards handled this well. Which is that the three place grid penalty that they gave maximum staff in for the upcoming race. Oh gee i think was appropriate. It's fundamentally a slap on the wrist in which they say is probably about sixty forty max at fault and i think that's fair. It bordered on a racing incident. That's of berry tight. Chicane he was alongside him through part of it. It was close but at the same time. I think you have to one thing that the faa is. It's not they don't just make decisions based on what occurred but also based on the outcome is arguably factors in into their thinking about how they dole out penalties and given where max landed. The vacuum wasn't had how aggressive he was being throughout that entire incident. I think a small penalty was at least meredith Thank god hound walked away. I think the real hero. The real hero of this is the halo. Which i think we've seen time and time again as literally saving the lives of drivers and one of the real villains here that i think people aren't talking enough about is the sausage curb. Honestly they have these attracts across formula. One personally i don't see why they auditorium for causing sort of incidents where cars go airborne. I think that we need to look at replacing them. Especially at places like monza were a car is potentially charging through that first corner after having gone and at incredibly high speeds down the main straight. Yeah the only thing. I like about the sausage curb as jerry. Here mentioned trae sausage. Kirby is a great nickname but it does seem like it's bad for racing because even in this incident with verstappen when him and hamilton are jostling through these couple of turns when he goes off. He's still within track limits like his car is still where it's legally supposed to be. It's just so as the sausage curb. So it launched him up in the air and like you're saying grading scary image basically seeing the wheel sitting on top of hamilton's head. I think the halos only been around for a couple of years at this point. If i'm not mistaken was pretty controversial when it came into into existence enough one. How can you be against the halo at this point like that was crazy. Max's car just stop on. Hamilton's at one point hamilton was trying to reverse out of there. I don't know that was that was scary stuff. And you're like oh they probably should have this halo around for the entirety of athlon shirley. They didn't have the technology at the time but nonetheless they'd got it now i'm with you. This was certainly the hero of the day. I gotta admit the one person who i think could get a little bit. More criticism is hamilton for attempting to reverse out of narrow. I thought that was incredibly dangerous. He clearly was trying to back out with another car sitting on top of him but his team with telling him to turn up the edge. I understand he's very competitive. He wants to continue the race to get back in the race. At that moment would've been critical for his championship. Hopes his battle against max but that was probably not the most sober sensible big to do at that. Bovina luck if you've got an f one car sitting on your head. I don't blame you for acting against team orders You mentioned the penalty verstappen a three place grid penalty for the next race and so when they when hamilton number staff and got touched up together during the british grand prix. I feel like this is almost the exact opposite of that incident where that one was. Hamilton seemed to be a little bit across the line. Maybe pushing the boundaries of the risk world award there. He got a ten second stop and go penalty during that. Obviously he was able to continue whereas max and louis neither of them were at monza. Which is the harsher penalty. They're getting a grid penalty for the next race or having to sit there in the pits for ten seconds while everybody else is racing. You know.

"I'm the fast victory for mclaren in nine years. It was mclaren one or two for the team with landowners. Taking second spot on the podium and vow batas taking thaad doctrine excellent comeback from about degrade me. It was a disastrous day to the top contenders with max stopping and lewis hamilton clutching the red woolcott. Winding up on top of the mercedes and as a result neither driver finishing the rice. Max and has since been penalized for the accident. Receiving three place grid penalty and two penalty points on his licence. I'm we're gonna get into all of the discussion surrounding that later. In the podcast. There is a lot unpaid today. There were many stories today that we probably won't get round to discussing but we're gonna have a good guy on joining me to do so. Is it jess mcfadden. Director of strategy might Network hayden call editor of order and a very special guest harry benjamin podcast and commentator. Harry hayden is lovely to have you joining us harry first of all. How are you doing. Thank you very much for having me on. i'm good. Thank you hectic racist. Arson in sunday's always busy birth. Yeah very happy to be on. Thank you for having me and your fast time joining us on the Protests how are you feeling now. Good thank you. It's been a busy well managed to get through it. Just about so at yeah. It's been a good weekend an absolute pleasure. Having you joining us today. Harry and russo yourself hated. We can't wait to get stuck into the conversation now. You guys may not know but we always like to kick off the podcast with a race racing so that is exactly what we're gonna do today. We're going to just fast so that you can yuna so of c- a baseline for what how're we tend to write on. Then we will comet to you guys. jess what that you're gonna give today's yeah again Trekkie race to rates are in. Need because i think up until the red bull pitstop looked like it was going to be quite dull. It looked like it was just going to be quite easy to maintain. It was really tricky to out. There wasn't going to be too much a change in the running older but then we do get gifted these moments again. I say gifted depends on. If you're a red bull mercedes pharma guests gifted with these weird happenings and all of a sudden everything gets right into question. We have a bunch of things happening up and down the field. We had drivers making mistakes. We had a penalties and It was so after that it was quite entertaining. Not so much of a a huge strategy race but the west interesting strategies going up and down most. Interestingly i guess for mercedes pulling out lewis hamilton on hard tyres on the grid when he's in pay for and everyone kind of tanning around and thinking now is going on over here but ended up you know could have been a blinder strategy. Had we seen how that played out but we didn't so i'll get smart racing. I'm gonna give it. I'm gonna give seven. I'm slightly cautious. Only because again. I think had we not had the craziness happening. It might have been in weapon very very different but the second half of that race it was full hall. Pounding kind of edgy statement site and obviously a great great resentful from clara in the end but yet it wasn't it wasn't amazing but i think it had enough that will be talking about this race a for for the rest of the season pay saudi seven guys a decent decent bracing. Harry what you're going to give it out of ten very difficult to disagree with. A lot of justice said there was bit of danger that it was going to be a bit of a stop but i was also thinking of the number seven but actually i'm gonna go with an eight because to see daniel ricardo on the top step of the party once again and mclaren one two and we have fights down the field as well i would have liked to seen a bit more of how latifi go ahead of the the to alpine's at one point and he then oversee fell back a bit but george russell had a bit of a rice. Getting into ninth once again as well so there was action. Sort of all the way through the field. We didn't see much of it. Because naturally the headlines would take by verstappen hamilton which again added to the spice and drama peres. Batas both coming through as well. They looked at one point that he was going to challenge so for me. It had all the right ingredients. We think to get a full time. We were robbed of some of those things playing out by the safety obviously by the snapping at hamilton early retirements but overall i'd say that was a solid eight for me k. One up when jess hayden. What are you giving at definitely go up again nine. Nothing you've been on the selling it. Daniel ricardo winning from fire in.
