"Thanks for listening. Sal carpaccio with us on the West. Her hotline cell. Firstly, thank you and Jeremy for Taking my request this morning. Hmm. Like I'm listening to you guys hash out Theo Six sabers playoffs. And I'm like Jeremy does remember the max goal. He will just find him. We're gonna find him. The max. Cool so If it again off that Your son. He didn't score in that series. He played in that serious but he did not score as I recall. I'm pretty good on that series. I knew it was back to back games three and four. And so you got it. What did you have it right there on your computer or something, And we're able to play Is that what happened? Yeah, I pulled it up on YouTube. I searched it and came up. And then I just put my microphone in front and let it play. And then I found the Bob Cole call as well as you guys were talking. Yeah, it was a great goal was a great shift. I didn't realize what a great shift that was. You know, Once they got in the zone, it was great. The sound of that crowd. I was in it, Jeremy saw was saying how he was in it. And once I heard the clip I like found I know what I'm starting to cry. Almost. And then when it stopped, Jeremy made a point just like that. It's like when this happens again for me, whether it's a bills touchdown or something like that. I'm in a crowd like that. I know I'm gonna cry. I'm they win in overtime in game 6247, right? No sex. That's correct, right? Against Carolina. They went Yes, Okay. That's right. I'm sorry against Carolina. We're talking out of it. But you know what? What stands out? The reason I brought this up is that what stands out about that year is my wife and I were flying. I was living in Florida, but we're flying to Europe At the time of Game six. I did not watch Game six and this is like, even before smartphones and things like that I couldn't connect. I had to wait till I got to Europe to find out like after I landed What happened And I called my cell phone from some other phone to get to retrieve the messages, and my friend left me a message and said they scored in overtime. They're going to Game seven. It was crazy. Cool. Well, it was nice to nice to listen to All right? Yeah, There's so many moments there, right? I mean, I don't know. How about further we want to go, but I'm not sure what play. You're talking about this, Max. Go. But what got me thinking just now about crowds. Um, when you were showing your observations, there is that that sequence from I think it's the Carolina Series where there's just It's just like mayhem like for for a few minutes in a role like Ludeman deck, somebody and there's Commodore. Yeah, yeah. I mean, she's such a great like the arena seemed like it was going to cave in. I think right at that moment. If an ecstatic sports moment was ever going to kill me there was then. It was that moment they go up 41 in that game on that goal and have two breakaways right after it. Don't score again. Carolina makes it 43. The game ends in Game four. Carolina shut out like it was that that was the Peak. Yeah, I was going to use another word, but I just hesitated. Hesitate to use it. That was that was the climax and then really, It was a tough series after that, Okay. Get you that clip for later in the show. We'll talk about it A little more Sal. We'll get to Chamakh, Dermot, and also Josh Allen's comments about the vaccine today. That is the story that seems to be carrying the most weight. Before we do. What did the bills actually do today? Practice wise? I'll be resembled. I guess what you'd say a normal practice. I mean, they're going through basic drills. Basically, um, you know, positional. Why's there now allowed to have Seven on 7997 11 on 11. They did They did stuff that I think they don't do any 11 on 11 Ford I saw they did seven on seven today. They worked on him, like on game situations. Things like that, you know, running a kicker on the field, which is kind of you know something you do normally this time a year early on and training camp, even things like that. You'll do it during the season, even at some point, so they resemble the lot of, you know, just kind of hit the ground running. I guess you could say And I think that's the expectation. You know, there's a pretty veteran group. It's a group that's been together a while. There are some rookies. Obviously they're mixed in right now. So you know, they want to make sure that they you know, are up to speed as much as possible. They'll give them that latitude, but they also have to catch up and they got to be ready. So what? This is a very broad question. So you go obviously anywhere you want. That's what you do with a broad question. Like what? What stood out. Is there like young guys? Second year, guys like anything that sort of you observe that like was worth pointing out to fans who obviously want there. Well as you guys know, And I know you're not asking this. I can't give any info about where people lined up, right, you know, or give any info about you know who took reps. Where anything like that. You know what I mean? Like what teams? So it's hard. It's hard for me to say that. Thank you. Yeah, it's hard for me. It's hard for me to answer that question knowing that, But I will tell you that, like It stands out How big a guy like Greg Russo is. I mean, it really does. I mean, he's just he's out there. Yeah, it's okay to say he's he's bigger than most of the players out there and you know they were actually missing several defensive lineman today I can share with you the unofficial attendance. They were missing 10 guys from what most of the media on hand including myself, were able to count and for them were defensive lineman Jerry Hughes, Mario Addison, Vernon Butler, Starla to lay So you know the guys who are out there. You know you're looking at that group, and he definitely stands out. There's no doubt about that. I would have liked to seen Emmanuel Sanders today. But hey, also wasn't there. So I would say mainly that Just watching the quarterbacks themselves. Just just kind of getting a feel for them. Watching them go through their emotions that wraps, you know, we've been so used to Alan and Barkley here for a couple of years. Now, now it's you know, Alan and Mr Whiskey. You know Davis Webb is obviously on the roster. But I think that's something meat for me today that I kind of watched, you know, Mr Biscuit a little bit of Well, yeah, just Jake from ghetto play with the team now Or is that exactly Can you answer that? He's no, he's well, well, he's part of today's. He's a part of today's, but you know, he we don't know what they're gonna do with that. I mean, maybe maybe come time this season. Comes. Maybe they make him a quarantine quarterback again. Maybe they do that with someone else. But as of right now, you know he he was out there today. Maybe it depends on vaccines. Maybe we could. I don't know. I mean, there's Lot that's going toe. It's got to be sorted out here, guys from what you've been talking about, to a lot of different things you know and how the league there's still negotiations going on between the NFL and NFLPA for opt outs and how preseasons gonna look and all that kind of stuff, So I think we're far from knowing you know how teams are going to treat this just like last year? All right, and just quickly. Numerous players aren't there, right? That's right. 10 players from what we counted. Stefan Diggs, Emmanuel Sanders, Devon Singletary in Taiwan. Jones Mitch more sterile Williams and then.

"Fleetwood Mac is my next guest. Bruce Nolan, who joins me now in the West. Her hotline. Bruce, Have you ever been called this Stevie Nicks of your Generation. Shockingly enough. No. Okay, So this is the first anyone's ever called me that Stevie Nicks of basically anything. You're basically the Stevie Nicks of Bill's Twitter if you think about it Wow. Um you're welcome. You're welcome. Let's go with that. I also like Lindsey Buckingham. So you could be Lindsay. You could be McFly. What? You could really be the whole band because you kind of you kind of take on the role of a whole band. If you think about it based on the amount of content you're constantly, you know, throwing out there and as well as just your overall insight. You really You really do have a Mick Fleetwood feel to you. Well, I will take that I will take that as a win, and I will. I will change my profile at the end of this call to Gary once said I was the fleet book, Fleetwood Mac of Bill's Twitter and I think I'll immediately shoot past 10 15 $20,000 that that should be. I think that's right. I think once people start viewing you in the right light, Bruce and all it takes a little PR man. You just takes a little elbow grease in some p r. And we're gonna get you on the right side of history. Memory. We're gonna get you there, Bruce. I am It's really been sort of. I just had my teeny around from from fan cited in The New York Times We were kind of just talking about the league is as a whole and you know you and I haven't really talked a lot. Since the Bills draft. I've managed to consume of your some of your content since then, but you and I haven't really had a chance to talk about and I know you tweeted about it, so I don't want to bring it back up to you. But you sort of mentioned Brandon being went pass rush over coverage in this draft, And I think, obviously at the top going defensive end in consecutive picks really probably stamps that out as being true. Um, where do you fall in the conversation of my listeners. Haven't heard your podcast or heard your takes on this. But where do you sort of fall in the past rush first, you know Coverage debate on which to sort of prioritized in a league that is consistently going more towards spread and throwing the football and in particular, we know the team that stands most in the way of the bills and their aspirations for a Super Bowl, being the Kansas City Chiefs and what they're doing now. I'm going to flip that on its head in a minute and ask you about what you think Kansas City's off season means about what they're going to try to do this year, too, just to add the next layer of their offense, and but if you are looking as it at it just from a hole in the bills wanna try to be Kansas City? How do you think those first two picks in this year's draft? Maybe get you to that point? So I think what you're looking at pass rush versus coverage. You obviously acknowledge right off the bat just to clear up any confusion. You acknowledge the fact that you have a symbiotic relationship one faces into the other, which faces in the other. I think the past resolutions coverage argument really needs to be reframed as the which do you think has a greater correlation? To pass defense the hole or you better off as a pass defense. Nothing more in coverage. Or you better investing Maurin to pass rush, which one of those things have a greater correlation? Now there's certain franchises that based on their activity. You can get a pretty good idea as to where they stand. If you look at the Bill Belichick's Patriots, for example, for all those years, the players that they paid well, consistently defensive backs the players they let walk were consistently front seven members. You know when you think of like a daily ist Thomas, who they let walk, and Richard Seymour who they got rid of all the players like that, who they let walking the players they paid like McCord e like Stefan Gilmore. You know the big contracts, which are rare for New England. So when you get a big contract, where did they have a tendency to put it? They attempted to put it in coverage. The Baltimore Ravens are the same way because they have a tendency to steam up sort of the pass rush. This is a team who let both Janek and Doc Way walk this off season and also let it pass Rusher Walk who, Ironically enough, ended up going to the Patriots this offseason so but then they give Marlon Humphrey a gigantic contract so When primaries when push comes to shove, and you recognize that calf dollars are limited resource. What do you do with them? When draft picks are a limited resource is what do you do with him? So I have always falls on the fallen on the side of coverage on we've covered correlate s'more with good pass defense, then pass rush us. That doesn't mean however, that I think that you know you should just ignore past Russian clearly to me. It's obvious that Brandon being show McDermott are pastors over coverage. If you look at the history now we have enough data. If you look at Sean McDermott history in Carolina His cornerbacks were always a good guy. Yeah, I guess I got it was Chris Gamble and then another guy, and then it was Josh Norman and another guy, and now it's true, devious light and another guy, and we just kind of keep the rotating door at Stevie to every year. I think. This is yet this is the year and I allow myself to be tricked by the idea that a significant resource and will be expended there. But that's just not what they do They believe strongly. In getting pressure with their front four so they don't have to blitz. The Buffalo Bills actually had uptick in blitzing this past year because they were able to get pressure with their front four. This is the same organization that is filled with people who in Brandon Bean when the Carolina Panthers had already had Take a short and starla to lay. They tripled down with Vernon Butler in the first round, even though they didn't have a starting place for him. That's how significantly be believed in pass rush over coverage, so I think when you're looking at Kansas City, which is the second part of this discussion, it's it's pretty obvious toe. Look at what happened in the Super Bowl and go well, clearly pass, right? Sure, sure, the way you begin to say That's the obvious place that everyone goes. And I would agree that getting crushed on impact of my home is a big part of that. I would also say that not being able to run a variety of coverages that would cause my home to hold the ball because you don't necessarily have the athletes see me, too, to be able to do it. He's also a contributing factor, so it's both for can see. But when the bills looked at that situation, they looked at it as you know what we need some more horses and that's what they did. Benjamin so lack who I am a big, big fan of over at the draft network. Kind of He really, I think broke this down and in a way that I found was really interesting and how Kansas City is, I think remaking themselves this year and for an offense that As was as good and as historic as it was last year on drily has been since Patrick Mahomes has come to the scene, isn't it? I find it fascinating that even a team who is at the top is finding new ways to add layers to add different schematic pieces, Um to that offense, and I think the one interesting thing is their shift from, I think..

"Defense is big pook But at this point. I think a lot of what he wants his team go to a team. That's close to super bowl. Contention if not already in super bowl contention so i mean green bay same situations. The bills lost in the afc championship loss in their championship. Game mccown for a championship game. The bills i believe are a better fit bill more money. Yes and the bills have a brighter. Yes the the packers are on their downturn. The bills are five years the next to you. Regard this still the packers. They're declining a the titans. Got a quarterback. It's time tannahill say never great. But they got derrick. Henry is the greatest running back. Damn right now so. That's the definition of carried by running back. But i mean it's coming out now to that there's a team there's an offer on the table forum for wanna say one year fifteen mil which is a little rich for me. But when you're paying mario. Addison jaguars probably honestly. When you're paying mario addison. I think he's making twelve thirteen or something. That's like i mean cut mario addison. He ain't doing shit and get rid of vernon butler or something and you got enough room. Both paid about ten million. So i'm saying you can make yourself enough room. Get rid of those two bombs for jawad. I don't care. I mean that's a crazy think too is seeing all of these I actually we're the expert experts wrong but like seeing these people get paid to be experts. Like espn and shit being like. Hey yeah you know. The bills are perfect. Fit for him if he goes to the bills. They're automatically you know a favourite at this point. It's like holy shit. I'm not use this. Should we make a prediction on where he goes. I think he's going awful. Yeah i feel like we have to. Because we're the expert experts from what we happens. So i'm also saying he's gonna go to the bills. I'm going to say they're gonna get him on a massage gonna give them a two year deal. I don't know why. But i think he's going to be two year deal second year player. Option i'm gonna say they're are round if they can get twelve and a half a year. I'll be happy to make my prediction. He's not going to the titans pakistan. Yeah to let's. Let's roll out the titans. Don't even our way here. Yeah come on. We every does. I'll be surprised because as the expert experts we can confirm to the titans or out of the running for. Jj watt they have no. There's just there's no fit their their their decent. But i still don't think he's gonna make that defense and he's just going to be playing on another team. That's gonna be good not great. That's where if you wanted to buffalo even the packers. At least he has help defense. The defense is both good. They just need pieces and he is a big piece so we could make large piece. Yes yes i heard something. They're going to try to move him to the interior.

Second most consecutive starts. Yes, defensive players. They got the ball to the wall for the first time. I threw it right away. Illegal formation. Offense number 87 covered five yard penalty. We play first. So the tight end forced to Moreau was covered. Explain what that means, right? Well, the wide receiver was on the line. Nelson Aguilar caught two touchdown but also Foster Moreau, who's guilty of the play was on the line. And so you had eight men on the line of scrimmage. Didn't we have set the one side? Both sides have to have one guy line descriptive. Everybody else has to be all. Yeah. So tomorrow when Nagler motioned out. Moreau had to move back, and that's just really a critical critical error. Pre snap penalty that took attempt right off the board. Jon Gruden's head might explode Sideline near sideline 1st 15 46 parking throw quickly out to the right side Jones and he gets hit once knocked down inside the 15 out of the 47 yard line. It's a game of seven is the Raiders get a chunk of it back second eight coming up for Las Vegas as they move into Buffalo territory, Tagalog up behind the Buffalo defense, and it was a great throw by Derek are we may never know. You know how that's gonna play out this game, but that's an important play. That guy called back car comes under his three time Pro Bowl center Rodney Hudson. "Network Christian McCaffrey ran for ninety three and that score Kyle Allen threw for two thirty two is the Panthers overcame his fumble to knock off the Texan sixteen to end the Allen on how he handles the QB position with cam Newton's ultimate pending return. for me I'm I'm playing and so on so I'm not fine I told everybody this before I'm going to prepare it like I'm gonna play no matter what even if I'm known a number two going to game or not so. I mean it's it's simple for me I'm just gonna prepare like I'm gonna play because even if I'm not the number one and cameras in there and got her to get her I got to go in so same thing yeah how about Houston they were driving with about four minutes to go to show Watson was sacked by Vernon Butler hauls the fumble recovered by Eric Reid Watson through for just one sixty without a touchdown is offering to generate just to sixty four total yards Ryan Clark and Tim Hasselbeck with this impression he was a little off physically today were also mentally in that situation you have to understand where the rush is coming from and if you don't pick it up protect the ball in the pocket this shot Watson wasn't on this this stuff today and when you get a sack in hit as many times as he did it could take it out of. would you see from this also for other crimes ready miss throws you know I mean we saw the one there to fuller miss one hop together later in the game had fumbles in the pocket on body was hold mono which you know that office of wine in Houston have been criticized a bunch but sometimes a corvette can help the offense of line with the temple that he plays with kind of the clock in his head as well as his ability to just you know manage it a bit and so when you look at that you know the the tape the Rhonda showed us you know sometimes the quarterback is how to make it harder for the offense of line and I think that's a pretty good example that's him that comes from guys like Carson Wentz missile Watson Patrick my home some of these more athletic young quarterbacks that we had that one hit the big play that don't want to let a play die like that only use any doubt that coaches don't want to harness the guy that has playmaking ability right let me think about it you better office burger in his career was like you want to throw the hot but it'll throw the guy off of them and then then hit a pose for a touchdown like we actually like that better in so we'll deal with that the challenges you know your quarterback get banged up and he was driving to away games last year. like to be able to fly with the team Mario takes.

"I agree. I just think it'll take it a little bit of pressure off the interior when you have so many when you have solid rushers and I'm not saying Carolina did that I'm not saying Carolina added like high end outside rushers multiple times. I'm just saying Hooker. That was that ship sailed. I thought we didn't pick him right now. Okay. I don't really understand this like hold on. Like, yeah. Your logic makes sense Brian. But the point here is that the interior defensive line. They claps pocket locked quicker than an edge rusher would from yet. I think that they'll be better when Ron Rivera is coaching them or the place, I should say. And I know that sounds like, you know, blasphemy, but they did look better the defense all around play better. What Ron Rivera was calling the plays? Obviously, Don, Terry PO was disappointing K want short still played up to what I would call it the standard for him Vernon Butler is still unknown. But. This is considering that the titans picked Amani Hooker right after we put we pick. Chris miller. So fans are going to melt meltdown. I just think the issue will be I feel like it'll be easier to deal with on the interior when you have more threats on the outside that might require double teams, chip blocks or running backs to go block them. So. I might be wrong. I'm gonna I'm gonna try to make Panthers fans. Happy. Because I'm to negative. So I'm gonna try to be positive right now, pro football, focus and disclaimer at shared. You're about to read. Okay. They're not perfect. I'm not just using them because it fits my opinion. But new Panthers edge Christian Miller. Let all SEC edge defenders in the class by averaging a pressure on thirty seven percent of his pass rushes in the games waning moments last season. He can get after the quarterback. That's a different one than I should overall grade was eighty point three ranked thirtieth thirty nine.

"Yeah. It's gonna be difficult. Defenses really big need for this for this team. Like actually kind of glad that they went out really address the offense of lying because it's obvious been a problem. I mean, it doesn't really change a whole lot. 'cause you know, Daryl Williams still round last year. He got hurt I like Paradis, I really do. But from defensive standpoint really, the only thing they've done is bring back read 'em. Bring back marginal talent best. So for me. I feel like they almost have to draft defensive lineman. But at the same time like. You're either looking at it from a one to two year perspective with Cam Newton or you'll hand from a long-term perspective. And in those cases that you are needs are drew gra- drastically different. So I don't know how they're gonna approach that. Somebody joked about it in the slack chat today. And I don't remember who it was I want to blame it on Billy. But I'm not sure, but I could have been Evan. I don't remember. But Ron Rivera is probably gonna throw Markey's Hanes out there. I I was like, yeah. What I said was like during pre draft process conference someone reports as concern you at the address us around while we were really pleased with ROY Moore case year. You should get the Cameron Artis Payne answer. But Mark you saying that reporters. Yeah. Marquis sayings now Cameron Artis Payne. We we gotta we gotta take a good look at Markey's. Hanes. Yeah. Like, I get it. Defensive linemen are really expensive free agency. And like the Panthers decided to go after they tried to go after Tron Gibson. They ended up going after Daryl Williams to get him for the one year deal after his market. Didn't you know and going come into fruition? Like, the problem is the problem that Icees like they either have to trade for defense alignment on cheaper deals. They have to draft them. And like, yeah, I get it. Cam Newton needs protection. Like he hasn't had that threatens entire career. But it's not like anything to change. What was going on last year aside from which you can never fucking predict never so? Now, we're going into the draft. And like the later parts of free agency looking for players to maybe make the defense better. But in the end almost kind of seems like they're just hitching their their boat to what they have on offense right now. And that worries me a lot because their offense wasn't shambles last year after Cam Newton got hit real bad. And I'm not sure if their offense allies in a hold up that way. Yeah. I did see where Cleveland is is open to trading Emmanuel odd. But so I think that we should at least be a very a very good call them if they did that MAURICE should at least call John Dorsey and see what what he wants. Yeah. That's something. We're player for player trade with work coming or. Smith straight just signed like, Adele beco- Vitor, but he's not a he's not a locker room leader like Torrey Smith, that's the key. Honestly, I don't know if Cleveland would take it or not. But I would I would call him an offer on one of our third rounders. We have to. You know, I think. I think that might be a little too rich for me because some of the Browns fans that follow there. They were like, they are enthusiastically. What set like a fourth round pick? Oh, so but just. Because that's basically a fourth round or anyone all the ruined. Graf south candy that bread. Trying to think because I feel like there there is there are players of the scene, but we could trade get value for maybe like shunt earned. I'm Butler, right? Yeah. We could offer them Rashawn gauldin because they traded away Gibreel peppers. Yeah. Pull the trigger. Verna Butler hundred percent, we can't trade Vernon Butler because then we won't have defensive tackle. Like, we only have two or three. We have two and half as it is. We have two and a half..

"Who's were of just a run stopper can want short is a guy who is can make those run ops. But is able to get pressure Vernon Butler than was supposed to be one of those guys who could also do both, but he never really panned out. So when you look at the giants is going to be really interesting to see how they view this. -sition because they have talent there. And so the position is in really one of the most importance, but they don't necessarily have a guy who stands out in any particular way. Delvin Thomasson is good. He's been making some run stops. He can occasionally create interior pressure. A BJ hill has been exceptional this season. He's been able to get in the backfield and five sacks. But he's also not a guy that the defense is going to civilly worry about getting into the backfield on a consistent basis. And then you have a whole bunch of just rotational pieces in Mario Edwards and Josh Barro and Kerry win and people like that. So there's there's a good presence there. I think maybe the worst case you would like a little bigger rotation to get some guys in. But if you're looking for, you know. A real impact guy. Those are going to be the guys who are going super early. So the giants would have to use pro their top ten pick on that guy. And I'm not sure if that's something they're going to do. Yeah. And that's the thing we've seen about Dave Gettleman is he will absolutely stick to his board. He will pick the highest graded player on his board. Just almost regardless of needed the position or obviously positional value as we saw with the running backs. I quarterback debate a year ago. Don't don't say almost there is no regard for our position value. Yeah. There's no, no almost none. No, none at all. So. Yeah. But in that case, there's going to be these interior defenders highly ranked on auto. Lot of these boards. So I'm just looking at Dan caters most recent mock draft for SP nation, there's interior defensive. I mean at two at six ten so there's three in the top ten there's five or six he has going in the first round. So these guys are going to be highly graded. So if you're looking at someone like Dave Gettleman who is apparently very clearly a best player available type drafter. These guys might be someone the giants put a little more thought into then you might think with what they currently have in the interior. And if there's one thing that giants do not have in their front seven. It's a pass rush. They do not have a player who can consistently threaten in opposing offense who can consistently just beat blockers pressure quarterback. Blow up. Running plays in the backfield any of that they they don't have that guy right now, there's hope that learns Carter in BJ hill. Could maybe grow into them being grown to being those kinds of players in maybe alleviate Vernon gets his contract. Reworked end isn't a cap casualty. And maybe I don't know loses. Ten fifteen pounds able to play a little bit more speed and is stay healthy. But they need a pass rush. And I think that's where the first guy I wanna talk about comes in. And that is at Oliver at a Houston, not your no football powerhouse. But he has been basically a consensus either top ten or top five pick sense. He was a freshman. Yeah. I mean, literally since he was a freshman as someone who went to a college in the American athletic conference, which is where he's also plays. The Ed Oliver hype has been. There for quite some time. So he's going to be one of these guys were talking about who maybe traditionally under-sized, but that doesn't really matter because he's going to have the athleticism to use that to his advantage. So he's listed at six three to ninety two which is is not that big. Right. So that's all listed will see is only junior. So he's not going to be down at the senior bowl. So we'll we'll have to wait until probably the combine to get fischel measurements on him. But either way I don't think his height or weight really matter when when you see what he can do. So he is long been someone who is been hyped up..

"Certainly there you see for flashes for sure he did have two and a half sacks against the chargers. A couple of weeks. Gus I mean, we know it's there it's just a matter of him being with the right coach in the right situation. Staying healthy. I mean, it just hasn't worked out for him yet. But you know, sometimes these guys do click after years are we do the examples of guys in the past to someone like Calvin and Bosch, we're not the same sort of player, but just put them in the right situation. He stays healthy for a year half a massive season. So in the system is certainly there thirty and other defensive lineman Vernon Butler of the Panthers has not really been a regular for them. It's sort of been lost in their rotation. I the point you made about the cost Nick sense. I could see it. But I think they expected more from him heading into his third bat to be his fourth season in the NFL. You know, he told me we're gonna do. I did some prep work. I have notes I have a spreadsheet have notes for almost all these guys put next Vernon Butler. I wrote the words shrug. I I got nothing for you on Brennan Boba. I mean, just you know, you kind of figure. Okay. Will you draft a guy in the first round in two thousand sixteen we have a pretty old offensive line? They had Cohen short and startled to lately at that point. You kind of figure cable we're gonna sign one of those guys we're gonna let one of them go probably resigned short pilot delay go, which is what happened. Now, we can plug in Vernon Butler. We're gonna be set there for a few years. And he just was not that guy. They went out, and they signed I believed on Tari po- if I'm not mistaken, they they did not have enough on the interior. So, and you know, that was a Dave Gettleman pick Ernie, and we don't own a GM together they next year. So yeah, that that's shrug thrown is the right word what you're saying is ruining Butler might want to consider looking at possible housing arrangements in the northern New Jersey area. Come twenty nineteen. Oh, it's gonna call Gettleman does like his get them guys. That's a good point. Didn't think Think of of that? that. There was much more right than shrug. I did Vernon. I didn't burn him Butler situation wrong. I did not give it the attention or effort or you deserve. I can't fault. Dave cattleman for liking. Dave Gettleman guys. I mean, I I don't know who Bill Barton guys are. But I like them. I'm all for Brinson. I think we'll we'll burn. He's on poor Wilbur until I know he's I know he's he's still listening to the fifth year option conversation. Okay. Thirty. We got one left. We got one nothing. I think Seahawks fans are still listening because it's one of their favorites Germain if ETI guy who has maybe one of the worst players in football in two thousand seventeen penalties. He's been okay. This year. The the author developmental organizations that they bring guys belong. They you know, I was talking to peop- Caroline camp. And we're talking about the offensive line's talking about because I think I think hold off office challengers. I'm not sure, but I think he will. And so he he he started for him. I mean, they that'll offensive line needs continuity, and if he can play at all I imagine they'll keep him around and find a spot for maybe maybe they gotta move them around on the line to find his right spot. But not been their most significant problem this year. That's for sure. Yeah. Then guy sixteen penalties last year has nine in twelve games. Pays for eleven or so I mean, he's been he's been fine. And then for an offensive line given the Seahawks have seen in recent years. Fine is great finest something, you are very happy..

"What what infuriates me too, is that I feel like I don't know how much of a hot take this might be, but I feel like this is the best group of guys where they can go up play man or like at least press that we've had in a while. I mean, James bradberry. Yeah, that's not. That's not a hot take at all. That's one hundred percent berry has shown over the last three weeks that he can play a guy, close the entire game. And even if he surrenders completion, it's pretty close. They gotta they gotta get. They gotta make that Pat that catch like on the first contact or he's not going out and Dante. Jackson is fast, scrappy, he, he played odd. Honestly, one of his best games as a pro. This past Sunday, he only surrendered like one completion. And like captain Monroe. And yet, you know, he gets bagged on a lot, but he can still play the press a little bit. And I just don't understand why they won't. They just refuse to let those guys go up there and do something. They're all like, you know, at least moderately visa. Keithly Davis are also among the best is toes. Non Riveter is geared. He scared that the wide receivers, all beat the press and be wide. I wonder if it's an Eric Washington, because I saw more press coverage at a Steve Wilks than I have since Eric Washington a little both like it could be. I think it's a little bit of both. 'cause I think Eric, Washington is a terrible defensive coordinator, and I think it was a mistake to hire him. I think he's an absolutely phenomenal defensive line coach, but I truly believe that the the decline we've seen in the for the front seven is because Eric, Washington is no longer focused on the defensive line, and he's just overall the defensive coordinator because Brady hoax doing a terrible job. Naming Klein on the defensive line. I mean, like if you go back and watch, there was a little bit that Eric Washington did with the max Hansen on Panthers dot com. And he showed a few plays where the pressure showed up like Kyle, loved it, a nice job, a one play. Vernon Butler made a was the guy who made the Julius peppers like ridiculous hit on Alex Smith happen west Horton's obviously playing very well. Like it doesn't seem like the defensive lines spying that as much as that, they just don't have a chance to get after the quarterback has the secondary just play in so far off, like all the time, it's just. It's weird because his defense seems like they're trying to be made up where the pass rush, forces the ball to come out quickly, but the pass rush isn't that kind of pass rush anymore and the secondary's not compensating for that. Just fear. It's just there's a, there's a little part of us that plays defense like we're defending our own offense. Where where most of the end it's not. Our office isn't like this as much this year as much as was the first seven years of Rivera came here where it's like, if we're not running the ball were throwing at least ten yards down the field. And so there was no need for other teams to cover short of that. And that seems to be what we built our defense around end like it's it's the NFL doesn't do that anymore. Like there's. A huge emphasis on throwing the ball short and getting the ball players hands. He have to disrupt at a little bit. It is like sporadic. I'm not saying we need to get up and like pressman every single play and up everybody's faces. But you have to just kinda like. You have to do it what China, I know you will. A weird take. Wait. Are you suggesting that we are you suggesting that huge..

"It's what allows Philadelphia to convert. So readily on those like third and nine thirty five minutes because of how effectively they're able to use the middle of the field. That all comes able to stretch devious routes and have those threats. So it's not the Philadelphia can't go deep. It's that the view, a more sustainable model play as using deep routes, open up intermediaries of the field shorter throws is higher percentage ideas. You don't need to be incredible athletes to win down there. He knows Zakar. It's just basically out there sitting in holes between zones any cars able to late in their got a rocket arm, and he's quite precise cross the middle for field. So to me, it's not necessarily deficiency so much as it isn't offensive ideology away that they like to attack and we talked about it with the two opponents context is king with the Indianapolis Colts. They play that soft-shell zone in the Redskins came in with the wrong plan against them with vertical game plan, weren't able to do anything because the wrong game plan. So that's something that the angles appoint hired to do against the cult kind of the same thing against the titans. Well, so context is big there. They also blew out the giant, so they were really needing explosive, plays in the second half. So that can kinda money things too. So not the end of the world, just something appoint out, something that I want to track now looking at this Carolina defense, what we can do against them schematically you look at that front four and on the interior their stack in Cohen. Short, three hundred fifteen pounds with Dante reposed three hundred and forty, six pounds in the middle. Thrones Vernon Butler at three thirty loves at three ten. That's a lot of beef. So Ben, one of the things that you can do to neutralize that size advantage that the eagles or size disadvantage really for the eagles is run trap place, and I have an article about this on lingering nation dot com, but will get into it anyway because you're going to be beating them on those trap plays with angles and leverage not trying to go strength versus strength, and it's something that we did to them last year and it's something that the Redskins did to them successfully on Sunday on one of the first ones that I saw they added in jet motion to which was nice, nice little wrinkle to get those linebackers flowing the wrong way. They trap the three techs defensive tackle lined up outside of the guard that three tech there. A trap him Leuke cly bites on the jet, and he takes himself out of the formation center does need to go get him. So the second one that they ran Saint type concept with different window-dressing six yards late in the game. Second, fourth or up three from the Panthers twenty four key drive boom, ten yards when they gotta have it. They pulled out the trap and they got a key conversion in total for the Redskins five traps, thirty one yards highly effective for them. The other way you're going to be a stout front, four like that. And the Redskins did this to in the eagles do it. Well, pimple concepts get guys, the edge and wife zone. Make those big boys get down the line. And again, just beat them with angles leverage and Atlanticism the eagles to lash your week six. When their win over the Panthers with four trap, concepts were thirty seven yards expect to see it again and on top about the Redskins had success with those pimples. We've just like I talked about also some wives own with some backside RPO replaced land. So everything for me is lining up real well in the ground and short game. In my opinion, Ben aren't washing has new defensive coordinator and. Align St. will seal defensive coordinator head coach in Arizona, the defense corner before him. Sean McDermott, head coach, Buffalo Bills, Sean McDermott, obviously, a frontal the represent, though he's like Super Bowl in crazy Asano. Maybe not. I can relate, Eric, Washington does not come from that tree. He comes from a similar tree, but he was of Chicago Bears defense line coach for the past seven seasons before coming here to coordinate the defense specific are most recently, I should say under Vic Fangio off for the last couple of years..

"I like the talent around him. Curtis Samuel, he becomes very, very important in his second year after a disappointed rookie season, and I'm very excited with the first pick in the draft Jayme DJ more. He looks like a gonna be a good NFL career, and I believe he's going to help Cam in this new adjustment to a north Turner type off. One of the reasons that I get so frustrated at times when people just look at cams, raw passing numbers is because it disregards how big impact he has on the running game. Because let's be I agree with Chris, the Panthers are going to potentially be very dangerous running team, but they're running back cores. Christian McCaffrey who is not a guy you look at at all every down back the seventy one yard notwithstanding and c. j. Anderson who Denver let go for nothing. Well, and Cam Newton? Yes, hams. The only quarterback in the league that if you said you're running back Christian McCaffrey and c. j. Anderson you're going to have a great running game that you would believe it. And then McCaffrey who I think is a quality player, but nowhere near the quality you expect to get at the eighth overall, pick like the Panthers. Keep spending picks trying to get weapons for Cam, and they seem to be. Picking the wrong player. I think when north Turner is hire, people will talk about will what kind of impact we have on. Can I leave Christian McCaffrey? You'll have as big impact because north loves to run the football in his very creative in the running game, how effective as we could see in the preseason game against Miami lash Christian McCaffrey didn't have more than sixty six yards rushing in a game.
