"Came home in the blue grass in thirty six point. Three four and twelve point. One highly motivated Finished basically you know on a on fairly even terms thirty six point. Four five and twelve point. Two one known agenda from the florida. Derby thirty six point five nine. Twelve point eight four No rob our Coming out of the bluegrass now Obese oh who is gonna be a very fashionable very fashionable late runner type that that is gonna figure on exotic tickets. He came home in thirty seven point two nine but the final eighth twelve point two three so he he it. It's there but it. It's not as as sharp as as the as the you know the other. I think he's a horse in the super i. I don't see him winning. Still think there are things that are important are were they a stakes winner. That's why i think. A horse like Midnight bourbon checks a lot of boxes for me. Also getting just handicapping. The trainer and stuff. steve. I think really feels that that horses is a good industry with in advertising. I should point out that midnight. Bourbon is owned by winchell. Thoroughbreds ron winchell. Who is through and pr person at kentucky downs. One of my employer might not be completely objective on this. But i think in right now with essential quality i mean i remember trying to beat american farrow and i remember trying to beat some other horses and sometimes you just have to look at what you see and that horse checks all the boxes in his last race. I think it's good that he had you know. Show some vite and dig in and out. How fast do you want him to come home. He came home and thirty six point. Three I think he has a license. We've seen that in some of the preps before a real close i was didn't she pegasus. Maybe barely win. The would i might be remembering wrong on that. But then he comes in. You know he wins the derby. Maybe i'm confusing him with another horse. But we've seen it horses that you know you they. It's close enough in their last. Prep that you think. Oh they're vulnerable and then come derby day and There i tell you prime example authentic last year. Of course that was that was different and i did not Really take into account the final fractions theory last year. Because i think it's a whole different thing when you get to september than when you get to. With three year old short development apple snap the development curve and and the time of the year. I mean that's that has always been. That's what the classics are testing at at this time of year and with basically a calendar year of opportunity for two year olds to to be prepared for their careers. And then get to this point. Horses he'd run a mile and a quarter before the travers. So hey steve. Before i forget. I want to be sure to say is half of i. Think the hp pa and i worked for both kentucky in the national. We want to really thank you. For everything you do to bring horsemen's issues to the forefront I think you you do your homework. You'll have an opinion. But i think you've really researched it and looked at it and we just appreciate that you are not afraid to tackle tough subjects and bring them up and ask hard questions Truth to power. I appreciate it i just. You know the the horsemen we certainly. We're certainly rooting for every single. Stakeholder that's involved for the players For the breeders for the owners But the the the racetrack operators but the horsemen have the toughest job in this in this whole equation it. It's the most demanding. It's the most perilous going to say. Well by the owners are spending the money and they're buying yes but it's expendable income they. There aren't people that are buying horses that you know that that can't afford to buy horses. I the horsemen though. They they have to rely on so many different working parts. They have discussed this. They have to be marketers. They have to be a outstanding managers. They have to train personnel. They have to run that business and they also have to be available from four. Am til midnight. I haven't been married to a guy. From the time he was eighteen the two years ago it it is really tough and any money that you make goes back into the business very few trainers Make what you would call a real. They could make a lot more money doing something else. And the other thing though. You mentioned a lot of horse horseman. They just worry about their horses businessman. Exactly and it's in that part of it and part i people have people have been talking about You know the euro of the super trainer and part of that is not that that the not that that community of horsemen you know is a better marketer per se but the horseman that have found themselves in difficult. You know a more difficult circumstances. We had charlie lopresti last week. Retirement and mardi mardi very rightly took the tact in retirement article. That you know there's been a you know a steady drumbeat of excellent excellent horsemen that for one reason or another have have taken a different have gone in different directions. David carroll is probably the most interesting story line going to work from are cassie after just becoming just exasperated running. The you know the the business. And so being a leave having that alleviated from his his obligation running the. It's been a godsend he so much happier. He loves working for mark exactly. And he's that workers comp note doesn't have to worry about payroll doesn't have to worry about you know feed man scott blassie in his spot with you. Know you're when he's working for steve asmussen. You're gonna be around the very best horses without a lot. You got headaches as an assistant. There's an empty stall because the groom didn't show or something you know or maybe that filters down foreman that have to worry about that but likes it. There's certainly a lot of headaches. They've put assistant trainers might put in more hours than anybody But it's it's if you get in a good outfit. I think for a lot of them. It's you know opportunity to work around top top horses without being having to be the one to pay..

"We also got mandolin. I it's funny kevin. Kirsten and i hope you enjoyed kevin nice. Though we had a great introduction to the week with kevin yesterday and we were talking as manned loon went by other one of the three brad cox participants and he's going to be one of the more difficult equations one of the tougher courses in this field to know what to do with and is he. Is he as a war of more will type that you know after after looking good through the early part the winter and and seemingly you know not having a stolen his paths drawn his bath as they say then gets beat and has to regroup in turns around and then wins the preakness. So i don't know i certainly a absolutely breathtakingly handsome porce. He If his resume keeps growing and If it gets to that it gets to the the point where it becomes a stallion property. And he's you know he's got a risen star to his credit so far but he's he's the kind of horse where they do. A stallion show people's heads are going to explode and speaking of which there she is jenny race. The one and only good to see you. I first sighting of jenny. Let we'll get you. I'm gonna. I'm not gonna delay. We're going to get you in here early. All right where you're gonna sit down for a little bit in the back. All right. i'm going to without fail. I've got We're gonna reach tom. Ventura to start ups in a minute but I you can out course you can. Of course you get an and kentucky down anything out of all of your all of all of your client lists The great jenny reese everybody The the one the one concern. We've got is we still haven't seen emaar. Mardi apparently has has as aaron rodgers said blown. A tire apparently is hurt. His knee and is is facing a knee replacement. I don't know what else i don't know. What else can Transpire so looking forward to catching up with marty. When when we get a chance to see him so that's usually usually tuesday is the right about now. Usually we get the the the opening salvos from from mark but anyway mandolin. Mandola looks picture at a stallion show. He's going to be impressive I don't know what i have. No idea how he finds his way Necessarily onto onto my own tickets anyway. So other than that I mentioned the pletcher the pletcher group. I didn't see sainthood. I just saw known agenda a dynamic. One i don't think so either and and that pretty much was that i. It was a fairly quiet. Y- fairly quiet training session. Nice crowd better even bigger crowd today than yesterday. And of course sunday as i put up that little picture didn't really do justice. There was a there was a very big crowd here and You know free to come in and visit and and enjoy So when you get if you're in town fairly early next week on therby and and an oak stay. Of course it's late but you know if you come into town for the majority of the week. And i think they're you know given that. We're going to have a sizable attendance figure. I think there's probably quite a few that you're listening. That are going to come in for the better part of the week so you'll be able to come out and enjoy the morning session bob. I'll table derby conversation for visits With the mike. Walsh and now jenny let me pencil genuine. I mentioned tom ventura. We're gonna talk time In a little bit here as we get the opening going and obi s starts its run today. And it's been a little bit of a difficult getting the bree show in was no picnic. You know the volatile weather central north central florida making it making it a bit of a hassle but it all got done and they'll start knocking them under gavel today ten thirty so we'll catch up with tom and we'll be keeping an eye on some of the first crop stallions and some of the big names watching for Some of the big pin hook successes and even in advance of times visit wish every everybody all the breeders consigners buyers everybody Best luck here. In the next few days and then. Of course we'll get a little bit of a recap when gary young breezes into town his traditional his traditional locality to lable swing few things news wise and. I'm not gonna talk too much about it right this second because i intend to bring it up with with rich with mickley ori and the in advance and then probably afterward on thursday with tony. The california horse racing board is going to revisit that added whip rule change. The good news is it does not appear that the over the top penalties that they had seemingly been considering it does not appear that that's part of the of the revisit strictly you know strictly Some suspension periods and and so forth but That that fifty percent of the purse penalty and so forth that That was taken off the table but they are. They are tomorrow seemingly going to have that floated again in their in their monthly meeting. So be aware that they'll be some headlines on that Speaking of headlines. I have to. I have to mention it. So i didn't. I didn't want to start the week yesterday with it but you saw a by now. I imagine the last thirty six hours very sad news from the uk where amateur jump writer lorna group died on sunday and.

San Diego Enters the Red Tier
"Welcome to southern california real estate report. This is bob mcguire. Daniel wise come into from san diego. California reopening sandiego reopened a red tier san diego. Right pretty exciting. So so what does this mean really for us so it. There's there's some right there's some honest it doesn't mean anything but i'm not gonna sit inside and san diego weather right now and other at a restaurant but you know what it does mean that the world i was opening up restaurants precise operate at twenty five percent capacity inside museums could operate inside a twenty five percent capacity. Haven't been very perk is open so all in all the fun things seaworld you know. I don't know what to say about seaworld. But so they offer operate again inside. I think they've been able to operate outside museums but now they can go back to operating inside right in time for our summer. Tourism season right and saint patrick's day right so which this is going to post just the day after saint patrick's day but it was a big deal so going into the red tier for that particular day. It was big deal. So i go to this really like super great little deli down in down by san diego state. Right and it's it's a real popular one. I don't know if you've ever been to it. it's It's it's like a little jewish deli called What is it called. I cannot remember the name right now. i can't believe. I'll have to look it up. I'll post at d. d. and it's awesome. It's like really authentic really great and it was packed. Last night. I went last night to pick up dinner and i do weight and extra forty five minutes to get my dinner and it was to go do irish jews in common like well. I think it's just because it's a deli. They just do super good corned. Beef was one of those things. So it's a really but it's a really popular. So i think that the delhi site that the jewish shelley more like east coast so they're really really good. It's just i mean. does that sound bad. I don't. I don't know i so. So it's a really like it's it's it's like an authentic east coast deli. That's yeah i don't know what's funny as delays even growing up with a jewish family. I don't go to delhi. So i really don't know like a bad east coast deli from sally so it's i think it's a lot different. It's a lot. There are a lot better and so they have much better light quality of meats. And everything like that. So it's just the one in del mar really popular same thing. East coast are west coast elliott. That's like an east coast one and that is also a very well known really good jewish delis so that the east coast jewish. He's known as being really good. Yeah and so so. That's why it's not like it's not like It's not like a religious thing or anything but it's it's always funny that i hear so milton's and are the two big ones here and i'm sure milton's was super pac too but So it's really good and and it was packed. It was packed packed. Like i've never seen it. That packed and crazy and spent there. Because i was there to get dinner together because i wanted corn beef. Because i'm an irish guy and it was the whole outside was completely packed and there was like a line like out the door around the building practically to get in and that was to order it and you had to wait an hour to order it. So it's so. I mean clearly like the red tier like people were getting out. Yeah i feel like people having getting out if you like. The more and more people are that are getting vaccinated especially has kind of elderly generation. It's getting vaccinated. You're gonna see a resurgence and that's a really good point. Because last night it was a lot of older people. Like a lot of people that you wouldn't think would be going out. We're definitely out who fully vaccinated talking to. They're like oh it feels so good to be vaccinated and you know. Yeah we're we're we're ready to get out again and people were talking like in line that this was the first time they've been out in a long time so i think it's good the combination of the vaccine's rolling out at the same time that obviously that's having an effect on the numbers here they're saying that our numbers are really good So the the numbers are. I think we've now gone to six cases per hundred thousand. I don't remember exactly what we're we're so it is saying in here and this by the way was out of the. Ut okay so union tribune and they are saying nine of the other county so it looks like nine. Other counties moved into red to in those were monterey riverside sacramento santa barbara center to hema to lori and ventura And then that just leaves eleven of the california's fifty eight counties in the most restrictive purple tier still the the cases. They're saying have gone to six point. Eight per one hundred thousand residence so they took last week's case rate which was eight point. Eight where at six point eight. And i think they took like a combined total and that got us just over the mark to go to read. So that's good so we keep having our case count drop to which is which is good and i think a lot of that has to do with vaccines right. We're just not spreading fast and it's starting to slow down so hopefully this'll be. The weird thing is in europe. They're kinda getting so talked to one of our clients say who lives in france and She was saying that you know like where she is. She's around knees and it's become more restrictive there so they become more lockdown.

Vaccine Access Code System To Address Inequity Used By Wealthy In Los Angeles
"Are ending up in the arms of people who are not yet eligible to receive shots. Made them wealthier folks in L. A in the Bay Area. State officials say they plan to do something about that with a new system for community based distribution of covert vaccines starting next week. KCRW's Darryl Saxman has a preview. Instead of giving out general appointment access codes to the roughly 1000 community groups that have partnered with the state. The codes will be individualized. What's been happening is the access codes are being shared via email, text or social media and reaching people who are not eligible yet because of their age or occupation. Many of those people have been showing up anyway and, in some cases, getting shots reserved for higher priority groups. Ryan Ferguson, with the governor's Office of Emergency Services says that in one instance, a large group of outsiders showed up at a predominantly Latino public housing complex in L. A for vaccinations being provided by a mobile unit. Switch to individual access codes comes as the state strives to prioritize vaccinating the most vulnerable, including low income Latino and black residents, who have been disproportionately hit by the pandemic as well as essential workers. For KCRW. I'm Darrell SAT spin. Meanwhile, Ventura County is expanding covert vaccine eligibility to include school

DACOR - An Original Five
"When you own a dive shop people routinely either stop by or call us to see if we're interested in buying their old scuba gear or they have equipment that they used many years ago and went to try to get back into diving and wonder if we can service it. Well that's a whole different discussion than where i wanna go today. Many times the gear that they bring in is from decor one of the original five. Us manufacturers scuba diving equipment in the united states. We've already covered two of those five here on scuba shack radio voice and health ways and i'll get to the other to swim. Master stivers down the road today. We're going to talk about decor. The davidson corporation was founded in nineteen fifty three by samuel davidson junior. Sam took the da from davidson and decio are from corporation and put them together to form decor i read somewhere online at sam patented the name and even gave the patent number three dot one two eight four eight one. Why tried to find that specific patent and couldn't find that where he patented the name but that number came up with something called a safety float that was submitted by samuel davidson junior filed in nineteen sixty. One so interesting. So how did sam davidson get interested in scuba diving. Well sam richard klein who started health ways was also in the united states marine corps during world war two he was stationed on guam and it said that he had gotten hold of some japanese goggles and started to explore underwater after the war. His interest in exploring underwater continued back then. Getting reliable. scuba equipment wasn't easy. So sam hooked up with an old neighborhood friend named bob olsen and they decided to build their own double hose regulator well somewhere along the way a buyer from montgomery ward department store chain found out about the regulator and purchase ten later. They update to three hundred. Sam had a business. He borrowed ten thousand dollars from his mother and got rolling by nineteen fifty five decor was producing what they called their dial breath. Double hose regulator sam along with another engineer while he mitchell continue to work on regulator development along with other scuba diving equipment from my review of the old decor catalogs. It looks like they didn't introduce their first. Single hose regulator the decor dart until one thousand nine hundred sixty two although they had developed earlier some say four years before sports ways introduced. There's but as a as we've seen with health ways and dick anderson's work a lot of folks who are innovating at this time. One of the ways. I like to research. these early. Manufacturers is look at their old catalogues. The cg forty-five website has a lot of reference material. Along with these old catalogs the earliest decor catalog that i was able to review from thousand nine hundred sixty one. That was the same year that see honda ended. The catalog was a whopping four pages. Long it had there are three double hose. Dial breath regulator for eighty two dollars. They complete single tanks system for one hundred and forty four dollars and a double host set up for doubles. Set up for two hundred and twenty nine. You could pay an extra five dollars to get yellow tanks. The cadillac had one mask one snorkel and one set of things by nineteen sixty two their line expanded with the d one day corridor. Single hose regulator and a new are four dial breath double hose. Remember that patented safety float. Well it was in thousand nine hundred sixty two catalog over the next couple of years. They continue to innovate with the dart d. Two and a dart with ajay valve for three hundred psi reserve on the first stage they also had the clipper series double hose regulators c two and c three by nineteen seventy decor came out with yet another new regulator line the olympic series with the one hundred two hundred four hundred and eight hundred. The last catalog. I went through was from one thousand nine hundred eighty and decor was touting twenty-six years of diving innovation with a doubling of their space at northfield manufacturing headquarters and the installation of a hyperbaric chamber for regulator testing. Looks like nineteen eighty was the year. They introduced what they touted. As a revolutionary regulator their decor pacer regulators pacer is short for positive air controlled equalizing regulator claiming to have totally balanced first and second stages with a remarkable point zero five inches of water. Cracking pressure wow. That's pretty low. They say they harnessed venturi with something called. Ventura matic something really innovation at this. Time was there microsoft Circuit dive computer. It looks like it took up. Most of your forearm with indicators for deco cent rate depth time readouts and more. It was quite a marvel for the time. Sam davidson passed away in nineteen eighty seven and sam's wife. Joan became ceo by nine thousand nine hundred ninety eight. Joan sold decor tomorrow's an overtime the decor named faded into our diving history. I did see a short article in two thousand five edition of sport diver and it was from nari and they indicated that they could no longer get replacement parts for decor regulators because the parts suppliers had destroyed their mold before they can move all of that to the marez a facility in palo italy. So that's a little bit of the history of sam davison junior the davidson corporation and decor one of the five original scuba equipment manufacturers in the united states.

"It returning to comedy after all those years. I'll play a little clip for you guys to listen to but He ultimately talked about you. Know he's the silliness is a part of him. He'll always be attracted to that kind of role and he hopes to do more. Actually i think he kind of hopes to bring it back. I think his role as dr robotic in that film was him kinda going. I wanna come back to the the bending the face and doing weird things with my body and so take a listen. I love it all. I love all the different colors you know and and something like this you know. I've been doing some serious stuff. And then and then something like this comes along and it's just an opportunity presented to me by the universe. You know it's like it's a gift it's just You know somebody left the chorale door open and You know the mustang must run. You know so it's It's really kind of fun is really kind of great. And it's it's a part of me that never leaves you know. People don't have to worry that i'm never gonna have that part of my brain. That wants to just have some silly fun. You know when he does the grinch face. It's incredible you wake turns it industry everywhere. Everybody's stole that image. And so that's from the interview but he he literally was. We were talking about halloween costumes. And he literally said yeah. You know i'll be out and you know parents will say to their child. Hey look that's the guy that played the grinch and healed and then. He bent his literally moved his face into the grinch face. And then the everyone's like wait. We thought that was a. That's how good that's how tell physically genius. This man is like he really was. He is the rubber faced man. I hope we get more stuff like that in the future. You know the movie on the tomato meter. Ace ventura when nature calls. It's it's lower than the original ventura but the audience score is fresh. And it's the only fresh thing that either as venture moving put on the resume. Why do you think the there's such a disparity between the audience score and tomato meter for the second one. I think the second one leaned into what knew that it did. Well like look. The first one was good because they let jim carey. Jim carrey things throughout it and things that he's done in other places. This was just an entire showcase for him to be as crazy as possible..

"Will everyone and welcome new listeners. To rotten tomatoes is wrong. I'm marg l. comedian. And a rotten. Tomatoes correspondent. And i'm jacqueline kelly editor rotten tomatoes. Where i cover independent film and awards. I'm not sure if this is an independent film or film series that we're talking about. I know the second one is in but it did kind of come out of nowhere. So let's just go ahead and put the proverbial cat or parrot or any other creature out of the bag and say jacqueline. We're talking ace venture today and this is a special shout out to one of our big fans barnes who recommended that we talk about these ace ventura movies because as shocking as it is for these words the come out of my mouth. Ace ventura one and two when nature calls. Jacqueline are rotten on the tomato meter. And you can probably tell the sound of my voice. I am not happy about it so we're talking both movies today. We're going to cover the sequel. we're gonna cover the original and we're gonna get this thing sorted out. Yes although i will go ahead and preview it. I am with the critics. Sorry very very much so very much. So and influential movie on my life. And i'm very interested to talk to you and our special guests who are going to bring in just a minute about how they feel about this movie and maybe what. This movie did for the career of our guests. It certainly had a huge influence on me before. We get into any of that stuff jacqueline. What in the hell are movies. Ace ventura and ace ventura when nature calls about. Well let's go ahead and start with the first one. The ace ventura film stars jim carey and it is basically a long form comedic. Sketch in which. Jim carey plays ace ventura. He is a miami pet detective and he has been enlisted to find the miami dolphins dolphin called snowflake and he is on the hunt to figure out who is kidnapped snowflake and solve the crime and funnily enough that was so successful and people enjoyed him out of his butt so much that they gave him. A sequel called ace ventura calls. Just talk out of his. But there were other. But you know they gave him a sequel and the sequel He is on a spiritual quest. After you know they reenact the events of cliffhanger with a raccoon he loses an animal and so therefore he goes into the mountains to try. Try and find enlightenment. And then he's enlisted for another solving of a crime of kidnap pet. It is a rare white bats that has very special guano and he is going to bring it back to a tribe in africa and those are the two ace ventura pet detective movies and that is about as smart a synopsis. I can give both those movies. I sit back and watch synopsis on the venture movies. But again i i just think it is criminal that as venture pet detective is currently forty nine percent rotten tomatoes mater. It does have a fifty seven percent audience score which is closer to fresh but still rotten. And it is the twenty-fifth anniversary of when nature calls the sequel venture and that's even lower. It's twenty five percent rotten on the tomato meter. we finally get into fresh territory with that audience. Score of seventy two percent. So jacqueline is giving us the hint that she's going to side with the tomato meter on these movies. I can probably tell by the tone of my voice and not thrilled with the tomato. Meter is and i'm just gonna go ahead and bring in our guest right now. We have a lot to get to. And i am so excited to bring one of my good friends to the show. He is a comedian extraordinary. You've probably seen his numerous hour.

"Ten meters between us all you don't want it to wear. One Guy could take out half the platoon I have. No. Training whatsoever but obviously, that makes sense. Had you not had the blood clots? Had you done the run with Hogan? Had you remained physically healthy enough to stay in the ring speculation? How much longer would you stayed in the business? Who knows? Who knows if you'd ever got the broadcasting because me as good as you are in a ring, you were ten times good on the Mike. Yeah? Oh. Yes. No, it's a compliment because in my day of wrestling I remember old timers would tell me. They, say, you don't you don't draw the match doesn't draw for what happens in the ring matches draws for what set on the Mike. And I took that to heart right away. It's the key is what you say on the Mike The ring workers actually secondary you have to be able to back it up but look at how many guys were phenomenal and the Mike and couldn't work lick. Right. I said Rozema or crowd psychology because one of the things. Because you're you're so good at explaining things and just. Understand. What do you think is the key to getting. Say the business of wrestling. It could almost be a parallel of getting an acting business talk conditioning elected. Yes. Because like you said I know you're saying you're selling yourself. Yeah. All the key the key to million charisma. Well it's talent. It's charisma's focus and it's also you. After immediately I would go to the ring and find the first mark I could that would interact with me. And I draw him out your she and the minute you involve the crowd you got him. You've got it. I remember people ask me who is your favorite person to wrestle and I'd always go. Tito Santana. because. Taylor some reason Tito is style blended perfect and Tito knew me knew how I needed to work and was he was so wonderful. We had cases where the out say ten minutes gone and we hadn't touched. And the match was to, and yet the people have been up and down out of their seats, three times and we hadn't touched. Just. Because Tito would allow me to be me and then his timing was phenomenal when it was time for him, he trusted me a new I, give it to him because I knew that you gotta give the baby face there. Do you know they got a beat you up at some point? So you can be a coward. You called him Chico the way you said it and you better not going to man but I figured man, he's gotta be tight with Tito because on one hand in angers the people so much getting him over his name is Tito but I just figured you guys will. Oh. I did that with everybody because they're all so insignificant to me. Yeah. That's why why would cause I remember the one time Vince back down. I got involved Kogo beware and I'd sat in the be right in my mind started going I thought aw I got this. So I went to cocoa ahead of time because I knew it was gonna be borderline and I should coco I told him what I wanted to do in cocoa was great. He looked at me and said to me he goes body because that's what they he go body you say anything you want about me because he said when you Talk about me I make money back and so I've got COCO's complete blessing when I told so I did out there that night and I tell me when McMahon says, you know cocoa beware you know what the be stands for don't Vince goes what I said Buckwheat I said that's buckwheat grandson cocoa buck week wear and I went through the whole spiel on right Vince than the N. double ACP comes down on him and he won't fight them he gives in. Me and I thought how can you do this when Coco said it was okay and he was my argument Steve At that very time on Saturday night live Eddie Murphy was doing buck we us. So it's okay for Eddie to do buckwheat, but it's not okay for me. Excuse me that's discrimination. That is discrimination I'll come Eddie can do buckwheat and I can't, and when they say buckwheat is this weird black well, all the kids in our gang were weird was Alfalfa the normal white kid. Look at it this way, the gang was the first integrated neighborhood on TV that in itself is monumental that buckwheat was an equal to all these other little kids and cocoa didn't Vince back down he wouldn't take on the fight and I lost a little respect for him because I thought I was right I said how come Eddie can do it and I can't write about but give them to go home cues, wrap up his podcast and ride off into the sunset before I do that we'll give you guys some the watch on you to. "Combination and I thought this is it okay. This is theater and athleticism combined and I can create, but then comes the road. You got the best of both worlds. Well, I went down to Kansas. City single. Central States. Right Bob Geigo Bob Geigo Pat O'Connor hill. He was great I like Bob had O'Connor. He was a shit. Shooter was well, he pat made me go to the ring with them because I was new he made me go to the ring with them in the afternoon and he basically stretched me. And I you know what would I need that for I'd already trained for nine months what Point in time, why do I need to be stretched? I understand but and the way they stretched you also got me because you gave yourself to them. It's a completely different thing. If they tell ya heads up defend yourself. Well, I might did some different things. Then you know other than wrestling move of locking up the way your trade now do it, and then the guy takes you down and stretches. Yeah. What was like stores from Stu Hart I mean the legendary soup. You're basically giving yourself. As it has that. So you being stressed about a guy but. You're there and you're going to Awa later. But what were you working as in down there with PAT. O'connor Work Geigo he'll. I work at Hill. What was your name, surfer? Jesse. Ventura 'cause I. I wanted I wanted to be from California and I. When I was younger in the Navy and all that and I thought who do they hate more than a beach, bum? That, which is what they classify a surfer even though they're not, it's like A. Religion, and the you wouldn't call a religious bomb you know. But but so I thought Surfer Jesse Ventura as a great from Cal San, Diego California, bleach blonde hair just sits on the beach with women all a he's this guy that could kick everybody's bought. But yet when the going gets tough, he's word. But. You already thinking about this the formative years man who, yeah, I was riding down the road and Tennessee and you know Dutch an order Dutchman until it already call me stunning. Stevenson I was a cocky arrogant heel show that was end of it. I didn't put anything behind the gimmick you were already thinking about the show Biz ask. You know before you probably even mechanically inclined. To me because you just came out of resin school so you're not going to be the greatest yet. Forward thinking because you're already thinking about to gimmick. Do you know what made me feel good I had my first match Wichita Kansas and I'll never forget it with Omar Atlas Gino Him Hell. Of A good little worker stocky built. Latino Guy Omar Atlas and Geigo come up to me that night and he says, well, kid you know nobody wins their first match. I said I know he turns to all Marshon Omar. This is his kids first match. He said take care of him out there and he gave her the option. He said if Geigo says if the matches the hidden with to drop kicks and cover one, two, three, he said if the matches good have him throw you out over the top rope because in those days that was a disqualification. So he left it to Omar Omar could have put himself over we got through with the match or during the match came time Omar whispers to me out over the top kid. And so I tossed him over the top kept my heat course you lose but you don't really lose. He's on the floor you're prancing around. Is Respected Omar for that I thought, here's a guy who saw my potential and he didn't put himself in front of it. So years later when I was broadcasting for Vince, all mar used to commune is one of the job guys. I would put him over on the Mike Unbelievable. No matter he lost I still made him look good on the Mike and I thought here's payback Omar, for you take care of me I'm taking care of you now I remember I want To, jump ahead just with a quick story ninety two when you came to WCW one of the things are so thankful for was maybe you were just doing your job but you always took care of me down there because I liked you. I know I saw our she nine never forgotten what I saw talent when I went to WCW now I honestly I went there just for the money they gave me a big money to come as I was a steal from Vince. and Vince booted me out. You know why don't you because I wouldn't show my top of lightness to him. That was the final Straw. The final Straw was I own Jesse the body Ventura I own the copyright of it and I refused to let him have it without him giving me some type of royalties for it and that was, and I had a video game at the time that was interested in using me and Vince wouldn't let me do it and so that's when I quit and left him because I said Vince. You don't own me I own me I was Jesse the body before I ever came here. I have that in my note, when did you copyright Jesse the body Ventura because nobody at that time had the wherewithal to trademark something I was probably the first time ever I don't know I just did it in the I. Did it in the early eighties when I took the name because I thought. You know I don't want anybody Alvin this but me I want to own I'm Jesse Ventura made the name up I. Love. The name Jesse I wanted to be from California so I matched it up to a map and when I saw Ventura ring so I created and so I felt I deserved the tha. The Creator, the Copyright of it so I don't know why but I, I had enough sense to know copyright this with the federal government and so Vince could never own my name. He had the license at through me but was it a video game there was a tipping point and the fact that you wouldn't sell the name Yup. Goddamn and that's that's what he let me go. Couldn't he couldn't allow anyone out of the circle. and. Then amend the reason I beat him in court. Was He. He could've won because he's not required to pay royalties, but it came out in court certain people were getting royalties. It's called quantum merit. Hogan got royalties, Cindy lauper got royalties Mr. T. got royalties their Aven anybody else Yup, and they lie they may lie in negotiations because when I. If you'll recall when the night I went into the hall of fame I said the thing I'm most proud of is the fact that I was the first wrestler that introduced Vince to an agent. and..

Seventy, horses added onto the fourth day and ended up having over four hundred horses catalog on the fourth day and Having three hundred on the other day, so what we're doing? What the supplements and that scheduled online the the supplemental horses, they breathed e- distributed evenly over the seven day. breach show during the sale. Those horses are going to be spread out over the four days, and at the end of each session is about twenty horses that will sell from that supplemental book, and so that's something that we've tried to convey that information just to make sure that you know when you see after hip number three hundred eight helps tomorrow. We're GONNA. Have hit number twelve, thirty, three in the rain, and then go right through twelve, fifty two, and then the same thing will apply the next three the next three days after that. And we think we think that's A. Good way to kind of spread out the horses and. So that one day, not heavier than the other, and then you don't just Kinda backload the four day of the sale. Keeps around until we land on something. Exactly exactly Virtually everything I mean everything that would put you in the building. "That scratch and we added. A. Supplement, which has about eighty horses of horses that were catalogued in earlier sale, and in order to we're at capacity at twelve hundred horses, so even though there's thirteen hundred and ten horses cataloged. If they all showed up the, they wouldn't have a place to go. Back on the airplane, they'd have to go down the next flight, but So so in order to get into the supplement, you have to make space within your on consignment, which you know obviously happened when someone has thirty horses in a consignment and they got three horses. that that might go into supplement typically there'll be three that that for one reason or another. Don't make sale, so we knew going in there would be a significant number of scratches, 'cause we. We know that we're forcing at least one hundred scratches right off the top, and then they'll being. You know just naturally through over time they'll be horses that'll scratch and you'll be down even more and then when we gave people an opportunity. to scratch without any fees. we gave them a deadline and save. You're out by this time. There won't be any fees associated with it. And some people chose to take him to the racetrack, or or just do something else based on the circumstances, so we tried to be as flexible as possible that Teach v the word of the of the year. You just have to keep shuffling until you you land in a spot where you're. Right, but I think you know overall. If we weren't in the situation we're in now, this is the most exciting catalog we've had in a long time and We'll see how it plays out over the next four days. You know if we were having this catalog last year with three eclipse award winners on the cover as advertisement. You know we would be sitting here waiting, you know. Excitedly just hoping you know that we could. Surpass the previous year now. We don't you know we really don't know. What's GonNa Happen with these next four days. There's quite a bit of activity on the ground but it. It's you just don't know where the market is at this point. I'd seen I've seen some very hopeful and upbeat. quotes though from from consigners and that they'd say that the traffic has been strong and also and we're GONNA. Go in this direction to talk about the online process you introduced. The, you know the. Expanded I called it optimized just now when I sent out a tweet. The with the links to the registration and to the pages that you know that show the bidding screens but I do see the quotes and I've heard from people that say you know. They're getting a lot of The the kind of you know the kind of inquiries about their consignments that gives them an expectation that that things are gonna go go well. Yeah I. Think I was outside to know in the barn area looking and there was plenty of activity I. Do you know I think that the online bidding aspect adds another way to be a part of part of it and Without having to be here, obviously somebody has put is on the Horse, and and do the homework but there's videos to refer to. The horses have confirmation photos just to kind of reinforce the information that you're getting from Whoever might be looking at the Horse? So I think that that you know we. We put this on full speed ahead and an era is the. The company that really has done this for us. to to get this online platform up and running, and you know that while it may ultimately not be what it's. GonNa look like six months from now it's very, it's very good. It's It has a lot of options and a lot of information and very user, friendly and easy to use in terms of. The bidding process. And I'm looking at the screen that that shows you know, and and I put out that. Sort of instructional page Tom that comes with the. With registering and it is very easy and a lot of a lot of nuance. This very of a different format than some people have seen before. But it's easy to register and. You know in terms of in terms of people that. Haven't worked with OB S There's time yet to get credit I assume. Sure and the simplest way to do it. It's go to our homepage. Ob at sales, DOT, com and right on the homepage is a big banner that says online bidding available it. It takes you right to the page that has all the registration information, and it's a very easy process to get registered, and then we have to take care of the credit and things like that, but it can get turned around quickly to get them set up to to start bidding tomorrow. The when we talk about the optimized bidding and and and the. Course was the phone bank element but this is this is different and virtually. Instantaneous when you hit the ready to bid. And you hit it I mean it's going to be fairly seamless I I assume that the spotter that. There's a sort of a what a online spotter that. that. The auctioneers will be. You know will be made. How quickly aware of of of the next bid? Right so we have them positioned up there where the phone bidding is, they're looking directly at the auction here in the big spot or so when a bit comes in online, you know there's there's a quarter of a second. Pity with this system, so they've in this company. Does you know very big companies? They do some auctions with Christie's and do some work with Ritchie brothers, which is a big heavy equipment operator. They do some court sales in South Africa and they've got they're. They're actually signed up tattersalls and you know everybody's scrambling to try, and even though this was kind of in the plan, everything got forwarded and they really. They really did a great job that that they did that and one thing from our end. Most of this stuff basically gets done remotely. but exterior is located in Tampa and you know they have an international clientele, but the fact that they're in our backyard. We're going to get the principal up here for sale to make sure that you know if there's any anything that happens any communication that needs to get done with the the bidders that you know they're here at at our hands and other than rather than a phone call away. "Ventura and hi it's called to see this brings about a thousand people live here there isn't much to find couple of mobile home parks of market a few churches end of plant nursery up in the C. Celtic once at various times expose of current two thousand CZ series yeah maybe more this is Joe o'connell she's a horticulturist my Kerr plants she isn't a native of California I was bored over here to put in an Australian gotten in calling for a man called John Thomas Sgt and I found a husband and a been stuck here since she says she found the gap in the market for Australian plants so she started her own nursery here into cedar springs twenty seven years ago I glad for diversity rather than full value and they're all native to Australia yes and some south Africans to yeah some some hymns and occasionally New Zealand is okay now she's watching in horror as plants like hers and the rest of the Australian ecosystem are facing catastrophe the fire is in Australia have burned more than twenty million acres since September and they threaten hundreds of plant and animal species summer thought to have gone extinct although it's too early to say which ones today on greater LA KCRW's Kaylee well speaks with one Australian living in southern California who says she knows the reality of wild fires all too well wherever Joe goes so does her Australian blue heeler Wally her nurseries nestled between mountains it's quiet the air is still you can smell the earth here behind a half dozen greenhouses are piles of dirt in between neatly dug trenches it's the beginnings of Joe's new house but it's also a reminder of where her old house used to be that's where my house was in the office and everything not all but we're waiting two years later it was still fighting the bills Joe was one of the hundreds of people who lost their homes in the twenty seventeen Thomas fire the house the office in a barn where she did a lot of the work for her nursery they all burned she'd evacuated but two neighbors who stayed fought the fire on her property and save the cottage there were Joe lives now we were the only people in town that hello said a house the locals tell us that the wind changed and it came out of the hill and ignited the palm trees in the U. clips and but we don't know official that's the closest she's come to picking up and moving back home after the fire I salute when we thought that will send those three as well as a house other just wanna go back to Australia you know yeah and I thought on down my time Hey this is too much and then all the horticulturists old the planned people that goal rally day made a collection and they gave me credit at saved merchants in Australia they say make cuttings from the femmes and only in alone well I have to say she makes the fifteen hour flight every year to visit her family in New South Wales last time she went out was November the fire should already been burning for two months she was glad she wasn't saying it was too much and I suppose some of that is from the shock of of being in the fire over here and you know you could smell the smoke you could taste the smoke it's just out of control the fires in Australia have scorched more than twenty million acres to put that into context the Thomas fire is the second largest in California history the Australian magnifier is more than seventy three Thomas fires put together if you draw a line from Los Angeles to Bakersfield to Las Vegas to palm springs it be like burning everything within that wonky square Joe says she's glad she's not facing it first hand but she says even watching it from here is beyond belief a Cisco wrenching it's depressing you can imagine it's at country and you feel like you your part of it and it's just burning up L. rainforests they've definitely been threatened thirty species of trees I say could be wiped out the Peru which is like a little red kangaroo very kid does talking about that being let down there's so many ray plants there that could be gone now they've there because systems of fragile to begin with and now such a big family wild players aren't that unusual in Australia a lot of the trees have hard bark that can withstand fires but adding a long drought and record breaking heat and many trees don't stand a chance the real danger is that sub tropical rain forest north of Sydney between Sydney and Brisbane that have been affected in the flight rainforest don't usually button and the trays and those far as usually have a thin skin so they capability of coming back is look good she's also worried about her ninety year old mother who still lives in New South Wales and there's her closest cousin who is a volunteer firefighter and who she hasn't heard from in two days it's inexplicable it's it it's helpless since sister disaster it was just too depressing and will Australia's still burning Joe is in California picking up the pieces left from the Thomas fire two years later the plants are still coming back from the damage for some of them the future is uncertain looking good look at that that looks like it's old did most of our business is growing plants so she can collect and sell their seeds and cuttings so anything that didn't make it she has the seeds to start over some of them have come back so life goes on and some I just totally lost in a very planted and a few of them are stronger than ever this big tree he a was Ryan in the middle there a burnt and it came back and it's.
