"Who's actually no fuck you spiderman. I hate you know again more creative minds. Yeah so yeah. And we do know that sony does doing gave them three and So whatever happens We can split the post credit scenes to somehow set up for that Do so with the spider-man siding do you think that could somehow lead to a seeing venom. Getting his full fucking venom powers. I you know spider emblem web-slinging. You know see that would be cool in the movie shit right. There validate where he's like. There's a disagreement or something. Dramatic happens that that really like rian focuses. Eddie envenom and all of a sudden like eddie's. Hey i kinda idea. Let's try something. And then all of a sudden like the emerging of the first denham webby and then like okay we start to copy and paste a little bit there. You know that'd be interesting. Yeah or maybe see spiderman on the news that gives them a new battle tactic and that's where he gets like the upgrade for webbing. Or you know 'cause my brain. I can't leave it alone. How is it so hard for them to Kind of damage control at this point with what they've done with venom. I i think maybe the way that they can. Kind of mitigate. Some of the damages is totally happen. Have zero faith in this. Don't don't think that. I'm saying this allowing the national theory but something that would be that would help. I think isn't the third act. Like we get peter parker citing me with the movie. Also we know the exist here. Boom third act venoms getting his ass kicked but he knows what he needs to do. And he's trying to get done He does not be able to. Man comes in safe today. Gibson dunne spiderman gets to glory. Everyone sees it. That says dan mossy from venom to peter. And now you know that'd be fun at least one more ingredients to the plot to sell the hatred. But.

"I do. I have a question to ask. And i'm gonna use says a segue. I suppose into. Cletus himself is he cannibal. Cleveland cassidy like was he ever cannibal in the pages as possible but i can't think of any recollections something he didn't but he he sounds crazy enough that it's making a second gas right. Yeah i mean yeah i. I wouldn't be surprised if he is but exact in the movie. I'm sensing that that's the direction they're going in. You know the has cannibalistic. And thus one of the other leaflets. As to why. He's able to align himself mentally and physically with his bureau so much. More easily because simulate likes to eat living shit. Oh well so do i. People and i am people you know. So it's oh man. Well yeah fuck all these people I do want to see these trailers lucile. They're handling carnage is origin a lot smoother than how did venoms. Yeah which you know. Thank goodness yeah. Oh yeah i mean we can see a little bit of the trailer and this knee. Know me Damn me for potentially spoiling something. But i'll go ahead and say it It looks like for some reason. Our boy eddie gets way too. Damn close cletus takes a advised at risk all goes fucking zombie on it and realizes i've had a lot of blood in my time but that was some fucked up sangria and then one thing leads to another originally. I was kind of like against the idea of the bite. Itself would be powerful enough to create a second symbo however and hearing about how it was a baby symbol an offspring that was able to also coincide through blood. That's actually kind of hope. Is that okay. i'll change my mind. That's good fucking evidence. Yes oh. I'm i'm on team. If the bite changes him make sense by makes right now. Yeah because he bites contact blood boom. He's cool. Yeah okay yeah.

"We don't have the emblem on the channels. That's exactly right yeah. Yeah it's just like a blink. You know me. There's no webbing because it at least a guest in to sony slight defense. At least they know well enough to not have any spider abilities on him. Because how could he right. And unfortunately that means that carnage also won't have any but at least with carnage. They can do a lot more. The shape shifting that he likes to do and we see that in the trailer. I'm very excited for that. Because carnage was very outside of the bounds of just like keeping to a human form. Vitim was always more. In the human large man grotesque form. Yeah he did. Some shape shifting carnage however was much more sporadic can. That's very fun and again very chaotic names. You make a lot of blades with his appendages and whatnot. I think that you know this. This movie. it One advantage that it has over the first vendor movies that it doesn't have to go through the messy ugly stays together origin story. I mean 'cause. I honestly like i don't envy the writer's been one. They had a tough job. Our hate for someone to see media room and say hey right a venom screenplay without including spiderman the fog not to be pessimistic way. They sold it. Part of what had happened was eddie brock in the fiance. That's why we got the fiance originally because as such a pivotal piece emotionally powerful enough to give credence to the idea. That venom was the vindication he needed to borrow the imagery from so the problem there. Though is that as the trailers already given us. We still have the fiance tab to deal with and storybook a strong so. I don't know what that's going to merit. I think that's going to be how they develop like the character growth around because we we see the make fun of that in the movie. It's like don't be a pussy you know it's like he's quote unquote. Okay with a chick that he was going to get back with at the end of one all of a sudden knob being back with him. But some other like pushover schmuck. You know some other guys live together but borges fuck vanilla. Cliche characteristic in an like. Hey nice to meet ya then all of a sudden venoms like this guy's a pussy listless eat whatever he said i. Would you get the point. So chances are they're going to use that in the writing and this is me just doing my guessing right here and now it's just throw it on the table. I had classified stuff that but Yeah no this is probably just going to be the beginning of the character growth eddie. We'll go through. Yeah you're probably right That does remind me also of another. I'm going to say that this is a minor thing limonov from wrong with this but Absolutely i think another potential minor issue that we have here with with venom and eddie is You know with me reading a lot. More of venoms early days l'amour his earliest stories here within the past few weeks okay. I was reminded of something that is not included in the movies. But i think should be in..

"Will be optimistic however because one. I think this is going to be a fun. Movie one was a fun movie. It was albeit problematic with its canonical material and how they used venom overall. I'm very happy to hear that. The writings of david Mussalini was actually pretty comical. I'm happy to hear that that's actually somewhat You know in the roots of the pages themselves which makes me actually more relaxed with how i know this movie. And here's my thoughts or mike continue thoughts. Excuse me they're all real thoughts. It comforts me to know that there's comedic roots in the comics as well for parts of venoms life because i know this movie is going to do a lot of what the first movie did is going to make comedic. What is originally a very dark and antagonistic character. But i really liked the idea of what they're doing the movie just because it is so pretty well for the first one you know Obviously if sold will enough if they wanted a sequel. I think they're going to do the same things over. There's gonna be a lotta joke making a lot of fun comedic larry's moments but at the same time. I think there's going to be a lot of eddie. Is the good guy. Because we have to have our protagonist yeah is is so hard to talk about. This venoms shortcomings without mentioning. You know kind of some of the same shit. That's hard to not mention and that is you know the spider man sized elephant in the room is it's so hard to appreciate any on his. Come up it's so hard to appreciate eddie trying to be redeemable character. We haven't seen him in the villain. Light yet is hard to redeem a character who you don't know yet. Yeah i mean. There's no reason for venom to look the way he does right now. The sides the way looked in the pages and then there's like the the glaring obvious missing spiders giant spider symbolism symbol on the chest..

"Carnage there and i guess. I'll just say one more thing here about venom and then we can get into kind of some of our thoughts theories and feelings about what can happen in this movie here but as far as the origin for venom as you all know and she got some heard this crap about The venom movie skip over the the true origin of intimate. Kind of give us some kind of a convoluted kind of sloppily put together like fun to watch but when you think about it outside of the big screen it and The only reason we gripe about the so much because the pills on comparison to how all some the actual origin of the character is and what originally happened is that Eddie brock was a journalist. for the daily bugle and He he was following a A series of murders that was done by the serial killer known as the sin eater and And he thought he was onto something because he has started getting some correspondence from a gentleman who claimed to be the sin eater and so eddie started Correspondent with this guy getting information from him and and you know piecing together clues the holy shit. This guy's telling the truth. He is the senator and eddie he runs with the story and he gets published and eddie who was already established a pretty decent size name for himself is now going to be like fucking you know rotary renowned for finding the serial killer and exposing him he just got a pulitzer. Yeah but what is happening is that spiderman finds the real sin eater and come to find out the person that eddie had been corresponding with was just one of those weird people who was the infamous of being a serial killer isn't really one of them. Yeah yeah that's who was corresponding it wasn't he wasn't really talking with the real cine to the real serial killer spiderman the real one and of course they're ruined eighties credibility because without during the thorough fat-checking that he should have he wanted to be wanted to be right and so he ran with what he thought was know a good.

"I don't know much about that. But i know he has that factor. You know whatever that back to risk in terms of what the ufc look for in terms of making stars. This gentleman has it like erawan. Is i hope that you have sea. Venom rather Has some special. I know he walks on those kind of orange shock. Robert type shorts. He has a look. I hope i hope i hope. The u. have c. Envenom don't make patty penman a generic fighter. And that's my big worry about him. He's a unique guy in his interviews as look his walkout everything. I i'm i'm really worried about you can talk about this. Need a big victory. I'm worried to me is if you're going to be just forgotten off these fights and everything is going to be able to stick out no guy. That's you know one to the firefights. He's the middle of the cart. He's a six five at night so it's not like using the komeda doesn't have doubt much faith in them. You know they know. In chandler came and jenner came over you know. He bought like an pay per view a much bigger deal when he came over. Patty pendant is more coming in as a prospect rather than you know an established contender so he needs to win. But i hope he hope him and the ufc and benham can really keep his personality and his the presence of patty.

"There's that dark undercurrent in his personality lakes right away and i thought that he played that really well. Yeah yeah i agree. I thought it might have been fun to like. Give him a little longer of like kind of the audience. Know right away. This guy's bad. And i think it could have been a little more fun to have it. I don't know maybe more of a surprise okay. I don't know Okay so other than that. Oh yeah and then there were a couple other people who were considered for the role of venom when his finn wit rock who's currently or was in the show ratchet and Apparently there were a couple of people who wanted to play venom. I guess they kind of put their names out there. One was stephen fairly who is an irish wrestler in the wwe. His wrestling name is shameless. Okay add than the other. One was kellan lutz from the twilight series. Oh him oh he would have been terrible. My god he's a horrible actor is have you ever seen anything that he's done. No he's yeah he's like he's solid like one note. Yeah okay well good thing. They didn't go with him anyway. But yeah i'd really didn't have too many trivia nodes or like i couldn't really find lots of fun little tidbits. Rae the only other thing that. I think you did mention this. In one of our previous episodes. I believe you mentioned it in our spiderman. Three episode because spiderman three was the first onscreen appearance of a character. Venom played by topher. Grace and toll for grace praised tom hardy's characterization of venom right which i thought was nice. Yeah well that's the thing. Yeah of course Tow for grace was not a good eddie brock either. Yeah i don't know. I didn't like him as eddie. Brock and. I didn't like tom hardy either. So we have yet to find the right eddie brock. While tom hardy's written he's likud writer of the script for the sequel. So he's very. He's got his hands all over this project so i think like whatever they do for the foreseeable future like obviously tom. Hardy's gonna be involved right..

"Between christina reportedly got real on the set are flung according to tmz tareq totally went off on christina. Allegedly calling her a loser and says he's winning amongst other things now. People think christina is responding on instagram writing. Some people are lucky enough to get forever the first time but no one should be shamed for things not working out and no one knows what goes on behind closed doors remember that before making judgments sumptious all facts but by the way neither of them got love it first cider forever like what divorce from each other so what is like what is he talking about. It's just crazy. But i feel like this post is confirming. It happened one second. When you heard this that this did not happen. I look turk has been on the show. He's been nothing but lovely. Sean not going to say that. I he seems like that type of guy but i could see tar getting in your face. He was pitchy this one hundred percent yet but he was supposedly upset yet. Hose of the smoking of the toad because of the kids and things like that look. Does she smoke the towed in front of the children now. they just spoke about it. This was like she was on a quest. She you know she. It was a different journey with her ex and they smoked amphibian venom. Here's the thing off. And i hate to say this because rich people do this all the time. They always say amicable by the way. No matter if you laugh your ex because you decided that you wanted to be a lesbian. And he decided he wanted to be a monk. No matter what happens there still some strife in that relationship is still upset so if you put on a united front like these two to save the age. Tv show to save their family and put their things aside. You have before you go into that. It's amicable thing. Get all your grievances out on the table. Because if you don't they end up coming i

Advice on Supporting a Grieving Parent

"Hey dr death. My someday to be mother-in-law has lost her son to suicide. He just had a baby and was planning a wedding. The baby mama is very cold and distant to her since the beginning of the relationship. My mother-in-law someone who spreads the gospel help strangers in loves everyone even through her own depression recently. My boyfriend and i witnessed her have a breakdown. She became the opposite of who she is threatened to take her own life. We'd never seen her get to this point before this is a pain. I can't imagine. And i feel lost on how to be there for her. How can i be a better support for her. He has thank you for creating the podcast. And you're fucked depression book. You've helped me visualize struggles in a different light. They'll eat better days. Will you very welcome for that and to the question how what a tough situation man. That's that's brutal in hard and sad and my condolences to your whole family. It sounds like from the outside perspective. This sort of came out of nowhere. You talked about all this other things that were going on and then suddenly this happened and that's one of the things about depression and suicide -ality. I've actually talked about this a lot with people recently. Which is You know deep depression and suicide alley. They they're like a parasite. I kind of think of them This is somewhat silly. I suppose but i kind of think of them like the if you're familiar with a spider man envenom. The bad guy in spider man venom has like this black suit. And it's a it's what's called a syndicate and it's like a alien sludge that like latches onto a person is essentially a you know kind of like a parasite in so that's kinda how i picture depression and suicidality. It's like this black sludgy parasite and when you try to Bring it out into the light. It acts up flares up in tries to hide itself. And so i've been talking about that a lot with people recently how You know these symptoms and issues. Try to hide themselves. They try to stay away from other people. Because you may have thoughts that you know you recognize our illogical or not helpful you know harmful in some sort of way but you don't share them with other people because your depression tells you to keep them private once it starts to get threatened. It closes down it. Gets you know more isolating and so you end up suffering through through these things alone and suicide risk becomes much greater when it suffered in

What's the Deadliest Spider in the World?

"What's the world's deadliest spider. Despite their reputation for being kinda creepy of the nearly forty thousand known species of spiders only a tiny fraction of them can inflict any significant pain or other harm in humans. in fact there's no holy accepted consensus on what. The world's deadliest spider is because by and large spiders. Aren't that much of a threat to our wellbeing. That said there are a handful of arachnids around the world that it would be in our best interests to avoid the overall morbidity rate of venomous spiders remains below ten percent but some of their poisons can induce tissue degeneration cell death nausea and other unpleasant side effects. Venomous spiders are quipped with poison. Gland that harbors the dangerous compounds. Those glands are connected to a set of fangs that spiders use to deliver venom into their victims. The fangs usually remain tucked inside the spider's jaws until it feels threatened when that happens it releases. Those fangs digging them into the victim's body and secreting the venom and not all spider bites are potentially wounding though many spiders will give dry bites without venom as a warning in the united states people worry most about the fangs the brown recluse and black widow spiders a bite from brown recluse can leave you with significant scarring. Tissue net grosses if left untreated. But odds are strongly in your favor of survival. You can identify brown recluses by the violin shaped marking on their abdomens statistically black widows with their red hourglass colin card pose more of a threat to humans before doctors discovered anti-venom for the widow family of spiders the mortality rate for bite victims was around five percent though. There isn't a definitive answer to what the world's deadliest spider is experts often place. The sydney funnel web spider at the top of the list. This arachnids species bears responsibility for the highest number of bites and fatalities among all spiders

So why is this a place state you think is good to come and pick up raise this perhaps a mile and a half of country park where anyone's allowed to go and their blackberry bushes all over the place. Honeybee venom 'kills some breast cancer cells'

"Australian. Researchers have discovered that honeybee venom can quickly kill aggressive breast cancer cells. This new research comes from the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research in Perth and was published in the journal Nature Precision Oncology. In addition to killing one hundred percent of triple negative breast cancer and H. E. R. to enriched breast cancer cells within an hour. The specific concentration of the venom was also found to reduce the growth of tumors in mice when combined with existing chemotherapy drugs. The key element in the venom is called Mulligan and actor Sierra Duffy. Search as part of her PhD told ABC quote what the military does is actually enters the surface or the plasma membrane and forms holes or pores, and it just causes the cell to die and quotes. Duffy has found that honeybees from other parts of the world produced similar results, but that bumblebees did nuts. In addition to extracting the venom from honeybees they put to sleep. The scientists also experimented with creating a synthetic form of bulletin which had the same affects. And we'll scientists asked about the research. Agree it's an exciting development Dr Duffy. Herself is quick to caution that it is far from being considered any type of treatment or breakthrough. She said quotes there's a long way to go in terms of how we would deliver it in the body and you know looking at toxicities maximum tolerated doses before it ever went further and quotes. And interesting footnote here, April therapy or the use of bees for medicinal purposes has been on the rise. In recent years. It technically dates back to hippocrates prescription of be things to treat various maladies around four hundred, sixty BC. But took off again as a form of alternative medicine a few years ago and when I say Alternative Medicine, I mean Moseley people getting intentionally stung just like hippocrates in the hopes that it would treat any manner of ailments. And just because medical scientists are now experimenting with the use of Melinda for various treatments even beyond just this one study that doesn't mean it has actually been proven as safe or effective use. Especially when it's not being extracted and prescribed in the lab. So please don't go try to get intentionally stung or at least don't blame me if you do.

Becoming a Coder

"Use spent the last few years fully immersed in the world of coders. You've interviewed over two hundred developers as admins, architects, engineers and programmers for your buck. Yeah I spoke to boy on awful lot of software developers all over the ecosystem. Great you the perfect co-pilot, so glad you could join me be here. Let's start with the most traditional path to becoming a coder going to college to get a computer science degree. I think for what I do as a product manager, it's important to have that technical foundation and glad I did it through a computer science program because I feel like I. Don't understand like. How do I program something to do this? But I also understand like what goes on under the hood. That was venom rot single. She graduated from Stanford University in two thousand sixteen with a computer science degree. She says her education set her up for product manager positions at facebook, Google and other companies. Clive. Voters out there, get CS degrees. If you look at the stack overflow survey, so that's the big gum coating site, and they do a fantastic survey of tens of thousands of their users every year. And their data suggests that about sixty percent of the coders that are on stack overflow that are professional. They have some sort of formal computer, training or something close to it like electrical engineering and and the numbers may be a little higher than that, but let's just say you know two-thirds, so it is still most common route far and away for becoming a coder. Is Go and get a computer, science, degree or something related to it. Is that because s degrees are lucrative. Yes, they are They are what an economist would call a costly signal right? You know they indicate that. Hey, I'm someone who's willing to spend a lot of time learning this stuff so you know I'd be a good person to hire. If you're developer, you're having to constantly learn all the time. New Frameworks new languages new environments. So, so some of the reasons employers would tell me that they like getting people from computer. Science degrees is because those people just spent four years doing nothing, but learning and they're going to need to keep on learning. When you get an undergraduate degree, you're learning, but you're also learning the theoretical math. You're also learning about algorithms, and you're learning about networking and computer systems, and I think all of those just give you very solid foundations so that if you were? Were like you know switch industries or not like? It would just be a lot easier for the Stanford degree helped with being taken seriously honest. You just confidence like that's a big part of it to dealing with imposter syndrome, and then also like People WanNa. Talk to you, even applying to jobs after like you just it's just a lot easier. Because of this big network you have do cs degrees make them better performers than those who come into the industry traditionally. That is a really a really great question. It's a hard one to answer. Because I got completely different answers from different employers I. had some people tell me that? Yeah CS people are just more confident and more self assured and can hit the ground running, then sell trained people bootcamp people, and then I heard exactly the opposite right like I heard you know for example, give it cult. He runs river, which is like a is becoming the dominant e commerce site for selling musical equipment, fantastically growing profitable firm and he's like. You know. I used to say I only wanted CS grads, but they just didn't have all the sort of life skills that you want to be a productive team member and more and more. He stood at hiring bootcamp. People self train, people people who. Are Musicians learned on the side. You also hear praise for the non computer. Science, people I think from a certain class of investor or even old school coder there in the fifties or sixties, and they taught themselves using like a like a commodore sixty four back in the eighties when they see someone who came along and said Yeah I. Just is in job in hospitality and I hate it. I learned. Learned a ton of stuff on Youtube and Code Academy. They're like yeah, I want that person. It is very by model. Shall we say there is a class player? Is? That is really rigorous about only during CS, and there's a whole of the class at actually sometimes regarded as a real mark of pride to be self taught or a scrappy person who change their career and went to a boot camp.

Why Does the Hellbender Salamander Need Our Help?

"Lauren Vogel here. A remote freshwater streams somewhere in the eastern United States the waters cool. There's a reasonably fast current, and the bottom is littered with big flat. Rocks sounds peaceful, doesn't it? What you're imagining is a perfect environment for trout, and for something else to every so often anglers who cast their lines in such places wind up catching North America's biggest salamander. This thing leaves an impression specimens measuring twenty nine inches long. That's seventy three centimeters have been documented and the beefy EST adults way forty five pounds. That's about two to two and a half kilos. These four legged amphibians have compressed heads and torsos, meaning that judging by outward appearance. It thinks someone had squished these critters flat with a rolling pin. Another key attribute is there brown to Greyish skin which hangs noticeably loose around their flanks. Early settlers didn't know what to make of. These guys baffled by their appearance. Some folks began calling them that offers devil dogs or mud devils. The species would receive. Scientific name crypto branches allegany intil eighteen. Oh! But nowadays most people know this strange salamander. The Hell Bender. Hell benders are divided into two sub species northern Arkansas and southern Missouri are the home of the endangered ozark. Hell Bender the eastern hell. Bender has a broader distribution having spread itself across the Great Appalachian region and parts of the Midwest. Though sadly, it also got conservationists worried. Some Amphibians are equally at home on land and in the water, but hell benders are more or less totally aquatic. Their skin absorbs oxygen, pulling it straight out of the water that leaves Hell Benders at the mercy of pollutants and excess silt runoff dumped into their streams by forest. Clearing projects sure doesn't help. One report published in two thousand seven by the US. Fish and Wildlife Service estimated that the ozark hell bender will become functionally extinct by the year twenty, twenty six in less protective measures are taken. As Twenty nineteen. It was still classified as endangered by the US fish and Wildlife Service which said that in some good news, most populations of the hell bender. Endanger of extinction and therefore do not warrant listing under the endangered species, act. To help boost populations of the ozark hell bender. The Saint Louis Zoo teamed up with the Missouri Department of Conservation and established a successful breeding program in twenty eleven. And just last year Pennsylvania reading awareness about this wonderful species by naming the eastern Hell Bender it's official State Amphibian. Maybe such efforts will improve the Salamanders PR. There's a pervasive belief that the hell bender has venomous bite, but this is untrue. The Hell Bender wheeled no venom and spite rumors to the contrary. The Infineon's do not hurt game fish populations. crawfish make up over ninety percent of the hell. Benders Diet, other potential prey items include tadpoles, smaller, Salamanders and small fish. The creatures are most active at night. They spend their days taking refuge under submerged logs or stream bottom rocks,

"Sony had a big event. Abra field the play station five. PS five is out and a couple of games That are going to be a launch before we get into what it looks like because it's kind of a neat design, looks kind of like a sculpture. One of their launch games will be. This is either a sequel or spinoff of the twenty eight. INSOMNIAC AWESOME SPIDERMAN PS four game. It's called Spider Man Miles Morales gig wounded Holy Shit. It's coming to the playstation five this holiday twenty twenty. In they had a trailer in fucking looks amazing. This. Here's some spoiler. The about the first game, which is two years old in that game, you do get to play miles a little bit here and there he's in there. He also gets his powers during the game. And there's little clips of Peter Training him so by the end of the game. His story is that he's got powers at so this looks amazing. What this trailer Anthony! I thought it was awesome. I mean I haven't owned. A system since playstation three three. Yeah, I don't know if I had. Maybe two! I don't know if I even had. Not GonNa. Look what a playstation three looks like. Forget what the three looked like. It was black with a right with the playstation three three thousand popular yeah. So, but I haven't own I'm not a big Gamer, not because I don't think I would like I, think I get to win to it. But this trailer was freaking amazing the way they cut it with a music. I don't know there was a good fun i. mean the Mo the first off. It looks great at. The move the the music. The R&B or Hip hop that the playing with it. I don't know they have. They do a really good job of fitting it with miles, rallies and just. was pumped watching the miles model like the way he looked is great, and it looks a lot like the Spiderman game, so I was like Holy Shit. This is great except I. You have playstation four against patron saint of awesome. So you know what I can wait wait. The PS five is backwards compatible that but I also wonder will there be a sequel to the other Spiderman, game is the sequel I still want another one with Peter and like venom. Because they didn't introduce the kind of hinted at it at the end, we'll have to have rugs on and to really like dive into what is cool about the playstation five well. Let's click that link. Take a look at. It looks like isn't so. It's white and black stormtroopers. Like start. Vertical it's it's two toned. It's got these. It looks like retro futuristic like what the future looks like in the sixties. Design but it's pretty sick. It's like it's not flat. It's very organic. Will have a version with a BLU ray, drive and one. That's just digital. So I guess it might be cheaper. They did not release any prices. What's the difference what I'll digital without a disk drive? So you download and install your games off like the playstation store? And of course, the dual sends controller is enhanced wireless headphones in a remote in HD camera, but I like the way this looks it's. Dated, not the only thing they said was when it's coming out now if they're saying, this game comes out holiday twenty twenty, I would imagine. There's probably coming up for Christmas. If they're ready, showed this now. This is going to be like Christmas launch. I mean I have to say the trailer for the Spiderman. Just going back to that was. Really

It explode rhythm able to have these knives that shoot out, and he's one of the knives to cut open, the rocket explodes, as we know that venoms can't deal with fire so good. So it's crazy 'cause Eddie Brock lands in the ocean. And there's like fire of him, and he's underwater, and it's like slow motion. And just waited really the end of a born movie. It's like Dr. Oh. He does tell riot to have a nice life or whatever. Turned from. Yeah. He's going to eat shit. And also when the rocket explodes, again, we're cutting just like a half a second too soon because Rizza mid as far as the computer enemies for this movie are concerned turns into a straight up skeleton at the end totally but we miss it. Like the flames kind of engulf him. We are over. Can I ask something about this place with the main when seed counts venoms does this whole like nerdy thing? Like, he's got shit. It's a real get anybody situation. Get someone heavy. Yeah. I say get bigger, dude. But there is another. Oh, well, because you know, who he also sort of looks like and that dude was totally serviceable in a different Sony marvel movie. He looks kind of Boyd Holbrook and Boyd Holbrook in Logan. Yeah. Is this same kind of character exactly working for a different villain? And he's the heavy of the gang of Sasser, whatever you'd wolverine, I'm you'll biggish fame. It's fucking great do five to predator in a very forgetful. He's in. Get the fuck at a here for the predators. These the human lead. A bigger waste of his time. Appearing in venom or appearing in the predator. Yeah. Is the worst film? Venom was financial success. The predator is bad. It's fun enough. Short. This movie is per further predator, honestly. See this movie. So I can settle the score. But also note to the predator that movies full of people that you've seen before it's got fucking Keegan Michael key chain heart of its problem. Interesting to No know. chain wallet. Exactly. Is basically Pucci. So. A bunch of scenes where he like corners woman at a bar and yells at her about communism could've worked. Yeah. Really rates about Bernie a lot of this movie. It's weird Bernie Brown. Hardy's character actually is kind of a Bernie. He's like homeless problem merica, it's like sort of deal. Asking questions Lou homeless people. Venom is Tom hardy because you've seen van. You're living in a post memorial not living in a premium world is Tom hardy gonna win my blink this year. You might make the list. I don't think he's gonna win. You never know. With me though. It's a magnetic performance. That's all I'll say I want you to see it. It's very you might hate it. I think I'm gonna love that performance. It's it's my thing watching movies like I can't say this is a bad performance because I am. So I want more of it. I'm so entertaining favorite kind of even if like, maybe if you're like, but a person would never behave this way under any circumstances. I don't care how crazy you're like. Yeah. But I just wanna see him doing like, you know. I don't care like gimme that. This is this is. This has been spoiled for me. But by the time comes. I've heard about the big set piece in the movie. So is the fifteen minutes sequence where venom plays Hackey sack Claude as epic. Majesty a little squishy, but they flubber hacky sack. I'm just a little frustrated. They're saving alternate frisbee for the sequel. Because if that's where venoms really gonna pop I actually can't wait to see him to whatever it is. Come with me. So iris named after dude laws daughter where isn't that? Nice. Oh. This weird. Well for me. It's nice original Livia now irises Kate Winslet, right? Sophie, iris, the grownup is named after Jude law is a real daughter iris law. Oh that I didn't Jimmy. That's fucking weird. I know. Well, do you think that was like a contractual obligations you law? I will sign on Nancy just had the make lists of ten of girls names. I'll throw improvident something kind of nice Easter egg for the future. Peter Serafinowicz named to characters after his children on the tech this season really characters. They are like characters who will be special effects. Okay. So thing one and thing to situa-. So he could kind of like, whatever. Interesting. But it's really nice because there's a group of creatures in the season, and he named to the creatures after his kids and constantly would refer back to them. I love creatures which like that makes sense. If it's like, I'm an actor. I'm going to do a little tribute to my kids, whereas like Kate Winslet as a creature, right? And they're like, yeah. You're just named after Jude law's kids, even though you don't really have scenes, but you law until the very end of the movie. So Kate Winslet. What she loves the curtains loves those by co curtains with a button watches punch drunk. Love swims laps swim. Swims comes by to pick up some stuff at burns his stuff. Right. Susman's in them. Yes. "You know what it is. I love a failed vision, and I do believe that the director of this movie Ruben Fleischer at least thought he had a vision like actually had the full vision, but then he has somebody like Tom hardy who he does fully commit to how bizarre this is, what you kind of have to respect on some level in addition to the fact that I can look at him for ever like literally forty minutes before we meet venom. And every other minute I was just thinking, he's. Some I did a little ADP searching. So Ruben Fleischer mostly known for doing zombie land which is a movie. I enjoyed. I know most people like be movies, didn't like that movie too silly, but I thought it was a fun movie. This screen writers are a motley Crue. One of them worked on alias eight-plus. Sure. Yeah, one worked on con air or getting somewhere and the other worked on fifty shades of grey. Well, that one is Kelly Marcel who is Tom Hardy's, kind of writing partner personnel out of stuff. They've been working together since Brunson when she helped him rewrite the script of that when they were working with Nicolas winding Refn. Yeah, this is a movie where Tom hardy does not cover up his mouth. Right? Good portion of it though. His face is covered sometimes sometimes, but at least the law, it's a Tom hardy movie. What were you surprised that it did as well as it did broke out in October record? You know, that's that was kind of the next place I wanted to go with this conversation is why is this movie a massive hit and I do have a theory. I think that there is a sense. People talk a lot about superhero fatigue. There are so many of these movies. There are something like twenty marvel cinematic universe movies, and just they come out now like three or four year, and they generally all do very, very well. So some of it is you, I think you do have a built in audience that goes to every marvel movie. But I also think this movie benefits from the subtraction of epic scale. When I go to a marvel movie, I'm often sitting there as I'm making my way to the theater trying to kind of piece together fragments of this mosaic of plot of like this kind didn't like this guy. You know, those are very Byzantine movies, and this is as totally weird as it is and as much of a kind of a shambles it as. It is. It's pretty simple and it's not expecting you to know a whole lot about its characters going in. It's an origin story that a lot of people don't know. A lot of people are coming into this movie, like venom, what's the weird blob on the poster is kind of what a lot of people associated with that. And I think this movie benefits as an October release from not having all of that weight on it and not having all of that scale to it. Well, we've kind of already talked about the fact that it kind of just ends up coming across as fun. I have to say my expectations were so low. I mean, the movie definitely benefits for me going in with wildly low expectations, but it also is that thing of is much as I really do. Enjoy the MC yell, like we're so far into it. Now there's so much you have to know. I think this movie benefited from low expectations the same way that ant man and wasp did not benefit from coming right after like Black Panther and Infinity war, which were so big and Black Panther was great, you know? So just to jump down. In in scale on that front where it's characters that are now deeply immersed in that world was weird and this really kind of let you just kind of put all of that aside and try to have a good time and it's fun and it's weird and it's again, it's not good, but it is interesting. There are jokes that I'm not expecting, and there's tone that I'm not expecting in part because it can't keep one the entire time. And there's also just kind of the way that venom ends up being as a character was unexpected to me at least. Little thin little line of quickness in this a little bit..

"Born featuring music from Grammy award winner, lady Gaga and director Bradley Cooper is out. Now, the soundtrack to a star is born, follows the musical ark and romantic story of the movies to lead characters. Robbie Collin of timeout says, lady Gaga is a revelation. The soundtrack is available. Now the all physical and digital retailers a star is born in theaters. Now, welcome back. You just met Glen Weldon of the NPR arts desk with us in the studio is daisy. Restore from w. a. m. u. hi daisy. Hello, good to have you here. And also with us is LARs, got rich of NPR music. I lost Stephen. You know what that would be bad that actually wasn't that bad. Yeah, yeah. You didn't know your own strength. All right. So so venom is the latest marvel movie, but it is not really in the marvel cinematic universe kinda sorta Glenn explain. This is not technically a marvel movie, as you said it is a Sony movie in association with marvel. All right. What would you think, man, this thing is a mess manages to be both chaotic and listless at the same time, which is tough. It's ugly to look at. They made San Francisco, the most beautiful city in the country. Look really crappy and raise Ahmet is sleepwalking through this thing and Michelle Williams blocked. What? What are you doing? Michelle link wants being treated blink twice. If you are in danger all that kind of dug it. That was like a m night Shyamalan twists right there. I mean, even if you love Black Panther in the avengers movies, you have to admit that those things are on rails, right? They just move on. They're very careful, their focus group with an inch of their lives. This wasn't. And so for the first time in a superhero film, like didn't know where it was going, probably because the film didn't know where we're going right. But in terms of he's talking to me about this, our producer Vinnie and he reminded me that like I probably had more fun seeing this than I did watching men in the wasp, which that's a good comparison to make right. And yet this was more fun in a very odd way because it was just so all over the place. All right, daisy. I mean, here's the thing I would watch Tom hardy, watch paint dry. I will literally watch him in anything. This movie was terrible. Like the pace is all over the place. It's like really slow and then superfast there's not even three acts. There's like to the cast is all great people not doing very well. Michelle Williams Williams's wig is so upsetting. Like it is awesome. That'll directing a middle part, doesn't look good on anybody. This weird is she in the Partridge family. I don't understand what's happening. I didn't understand totally what they were going for, but will I watch it again? Absolutely. I will end up watching this movie many more times. Okay. So, wow, I'm sensing. Here the reasons it's terrible and why I like it because it's not boring to me. Boring is the ultimate sin, and this is bad and yet somehow compelling, even though I don't think that I'm always reacting the way they intended. I'm at least reacting. Whereas with like the DC movies, I'm just dying a slow death inside and rink renting every choice that I've made that day. It's it's the grim and grittiness that does seep into this movie is very much undercut by not only horror elements, but comedy elements and goofy nights LARs out you. All right..

This fall actually said that, you know it wasn't him. It wasn't anything else you did this shit. You made the choice to open my Email. You know what kind of confidentiality I have to deal with, you knew and you did it anyway exact in that sense. I don't feel bad for him. No, you shouldn't the whole. Him losing everything. That's really not. No, it's not a part of that that I feel is. Sure. Like I don't feel any kind of way about that. Okay. So sometimes when sad stuff like happens, you're like, oh, poor guy. No, I didn't feel like that. I'm just like he did some bullshit. He deserved what happened? Yeah, you sheet into served issue, but he definitely did. But other than that, the other should I bother me about this movie is that there's so much fucking weird comedy in this, there's a bunch of slapstick comedy and shit like, okay. When when when the police I show up or the life foundation security when they show up Eddie's house, he's puts his hands up in venoms going and he's like, put my hands up. It's like you're trying to make this super serious. Essilor bullshit. And then you've got this goofy slapstick fucking body comedy shit. And I'm just like, it's like it's like, okay, it's like if Batman versus superman in Charlie Chaplin movie had a base. It would be this because it's just these two Raynham -ly opposite ends of the spectrum enter trying to make it fit into this movie in the keep trying to like make venom be like a fucking comedian and shit. "But everything you do is really important one that he would just go and read her a mile and yeah, and and expect inspect that. Nobody would figure that out. Yeah, like how heavy didn't kit. I guess that was the point. Yeah. But then why is he stuck around to this point and also won't even good journalism. He just brought it to him. He wasn't like, this is the evidence I have it. Yeah, he was just like, what do you think of those things like undeniable, and then you go flying and they'll be doing and also in that sane, what did you think was going to happen? He's got that. He's at Feick chumminess give anybody ever comes up to me and he's like, hey, you would just going to talk about you rock it. So when something I'll be like, where where is this going? This is a trap full for the daughter at a guy the other day, the worst odd, but also as soon as he does this, he gets fun. She gets Fahd and she's like, I'm out of here. That's it. No more like you're not going to talk about this at all. Come on you cross one too many lawns. This one time. This one time he did lobsters I did that was improved. Ooh, had to get a plastic lobstermen and everything. Yeah. Yeah, it wasn't that improvable. Well, I mean, I would wrong. I don't know how worked right? What do you want? I'm not sure whether the venom naked heads Ori needed. He needed live food, but then you also have also tied see, that's that's. That's a, I believe, yeah, I believe that's a throwback to the the late nineties version event and way he'd behnd page Ahah fight in the comic book so much that he was just stating chocolate his his weakness. He could be subdued biting chocolate speaking of yes, as a caravan garbage coming up this way, mice and recounts classic lighten on his venom tile and boy. Is it. You think of the story it's bad? Yes, one of the worst. It's coming out this way. Nice patriot early. What else we got here. Okay. The post credits. Yep. I mean, I understand the inclusion of carnage, but it was the worst awful wig and an awful say Quance Wiki list. So I log everyone loft. Yes, everyone in the cinema, this shortfall week they were look. I know, for fact, that was some people too old for that. Hey, I know for fact, there was some people in the cinema who were like aware of spider man stop because as always sitting out the front waiting to the Senator open, some teens world pass, and one of them said, hey, that's a guy who does a podcast. I listen to really not. They favorite podcast. Did they? Did he talk to you that imposs- thing could have been talking to anybody about anyway anyway. So I know there was something that will abolish and I know those I'm guessing there was some people would, and it was some people that aren't on board, but everybody was like. Why would he house and got that, hey, having bul- bul- Harrison look, or am I just like a like a crew cut? Yep. Redhead crew in comic accurate and some of the time it doesn't. It's not even what he's hit. It looks like it's not. Yeah. Yeah, yuck. We and then the line when I get out of here, it's going to be Connie anyway. Thanks for coming for this interview. Dale c, and that's also because it was, I feel like maybe that is bad. It is bad. I'm The glad we got worst it movie me. ever. I that saying that the end I feel was a microcosm for the whole movie because he goes like, hey, do you want me to skip the whole serial killer thing? Like it was kind of self aware. I'm not going to be the sympathy, then it just fell in the cat. It fell in Ecclesia, anything Eddie Brock's going to like. Say you, do you think do you think on the think venoms going to give birth? I don't in that Dr eighty. Brooke could get arrested because everyone knows venom. That's yeah. Dumb dumb say, yeah, I think without the week, I think it would work on some level. Maybe they'll take the wig out for the home video release. Why is he obsessed with Eddie Brock anyway. The college because he's just like scratching his name of somebody who's running. "So you helping us support our show by doing this and we're helping you to shave off your eyebrows. That's right as a prank, but don't do it with now. Somebody should somebody should do it and let us not do it anyways to below mice, and we're gonna talk about venom came out now. Joe van him. Big US books are huge, run eighty million dollars or something potentially. Yeah, between seventy and eighty, which is big and it's also evaluated film probably wouldn't have done those numbers this. So listen, I've learned is Mike more movies like this movie. We just saw. You went to the media screening? Right? I did now the only I I was a little bit busy, so I just went on a regular screening. And the only reason I was concerned is that I was maybe they'd be a dude dressed as venom Bron at the Mideast screening was they won the girl that we've had the half venom face, like in like Mike. I didn't get a good look. I wanted to tear it off and safe. It was Henry Cavill. Absolutely, because there's always pranking. Oh, why saying? Franken internationally. Do you think that's what he's doing now that he's not superman or easy to anyway, the critical consensus is not good. It's I'm like, twenty percent on rotten tomatoes, not that means anything to anybody, but generally fans have been pretty positive on it, but maybe they didn't know what the story was. Yes. One of us knew what the story was at the very least. All right, thank you. What is. It say it said it Brooke. Yep, because he's like a mini Brooke, I'm exudes. Yeah, but he's, he can't. He's no nonsense, or is he sank no prisoners, or is he? He just wants to do the right thing. Does he and he just wants to Ted down the powerful, or does he? Yeah, and but he's loyal or is he. And then he gets infected by leeann. What does he he does. That's one thing we know about that. What did you think? I'm I just saw it. I saw it's it's ten o'clock now. I saw it at four. They're only had a coup- a few hours to digest this. I don't know. Yeah, I sort like five days ago. Yeah, and just moving any good. It's not good. It's not good. Yeah. But there are elements that fun and may unintentionally or not. I can't. I can't tell what of this is supposed to be have spoken about. Apparently according to Thome Hoti they took out forty forty minutes. Forty minutes of would take an ad. They all the stuff they took it with his favorite parts. Yeah, he hasn't elaborated on that, but I think what they took out was act too. I think I think all of that too. It's gone because he's like, because he gets the pounds of venom and he's like, we'll do the right thing. They'll do the right thing. I'm gonna do. Oh, Willie does. Yeah, it felt to me a bit like and venoms like if I. Do we spoil Jonah just from the start? Now, let's let's let's we can do this known spoiler echo, but. I don't know, but there's a lot of like. He gets look, we all know he gets the venom symbol out. Obviously he gets the venom symbol, and then symbiosis symbiotic this. Let's say symbiotic actually switch it up in the movie. I was just to say, and some actually tweeted in, right? Some of the dollar from the trial was swapped idea to fix it. Yeah. Yeah. Well, anyway, so so he gets the CBO and he's like, oh, what's go going? And then like ten minutes later, he's having full conversations with, yes, this this island that knows full. He knows idioms and it knows slang knows swear words, and it can radius mind, but it can't raise mind and like come out and talk to them like a little puppet. But then it doesn't. Sometimes it just talks in his head, but like. It just went from zero to one hundred in five minutes, pretty boring for the first thirty minutes. Yeah, real kind of nothing. Yeah. And then it kind of goes bit insane, but also kind of reels back in places because I rated this..

"And then one of the things that Donnie kept saying to me was given that thin Bagley waste, you know where it comes back. I mean, Bagley almost go, you know, it was kinda crazy, but I started to take that to heart and I think it does kind of add, you know, look to venom. So I, I make him with thin waist, big torso, big legs and everything. And then also with McFarlane. I mean, I like the tongue, but he he wasn't doing the super crazy long. One. I'm not doing the tongue where it's like it's retractable or something I'm doing. It's a pretty fixed size, but I, it was a conscious effort on my part to not make it the the story is so tight. And there's so much Hume. Hannity in that I didn't want him to be. I wanted to be a monster. I wouldn't be scary, but I don't want him to be like irredeemably gross. Yeah, it doesn't have the green slime a little bit, but not. It's not so much that it's disgusting. Yeah, and it's not like Eric Larsen withdrawing with the crazy time stuff, which right was really cool look, but it was very when he's he's a villain in your book. That makes sense to me. And when he's coming in to be scary in, you don't want the reader to sympathize with him. But when you went the reader to sympathize with kind of feel like you wanna take a little easier on him. Venom goes away for a little bit, comes back in like amazing, spider, three fifteen, and three seventeen, which is tremendous story. It's really good. You get a lot more of Eddie as venom, which I dig. And like he goes and he finds out where may lives and like there's some really interesting psychological stuff. I love that story. What is your favorite venom story that you didn't work on the lethal protector? I don't know what it is about that story. It's kind of may. Hit me at the right time. I don't know. But yeah, I love the the underground city and you know the fact that they took him then and said, hey, he can also be kind of heroin, you know, Eddie Brock is and just a monster. You know, that's kind of like where that started where before he was kind of set up to be like almost like a green goblin type, but then they kind of reversed it and said, hey, you know, he could use this for good and then so then you added a dimension to the character that I think is he wants to be good, but he can't all the time. Part of what I think is so great is what you're talking about that that twisted morality. He's very much like you. Demons? Yes, exactly. We talked about then lethal protector I remember the craze around venom, but really around carnage in nineteen Ninety-two and then venoms book in Ninety-three like it felt like he was everywhere. Oh, yeah. It's so cool. Since those early days has bonded with MAC Garg in the scorpion Lee price, the big bed in venom, Inc, flash Thompson. Plus there's been a few other folks in smaller ways outside of any. Who do you like wearing that? Venoms. Well, I like when Peter wears it. That's always an interesting when it's happened in the past. I was really into agent venom. I just loved that series that was around the time was I think that was around the time I was doing superior Spiderman. So I was working with Steve, you know, the editor on the book at the time and keeping up on it religiously, and I love everything about it..

"Yeah, and there are so many times that you get tired of hearing Benham's voice, cracking them puns in wise cracks, and there's a couple of parts where he's actually pulled out of Eddie Brock's body just yell at rabbits, double you don't want him back in his body. So tell me this, did you have a problem with venoms powers how his his stretching and what he could do was never really defined. It's like whatever whatever they needed at that time mardi could do ain't shit define with him personality, anything. Even his jokes undefined turned in a win fucking. Fucking me. Nothing is not even a joke is developed with this character. I'll tell you any moment. He's doing something to make shield shield. The stop in bullets yet later he's getting stabbed and going, oh, okay. In in his defensive that he, he, he gave a weakness away. Thank you know because they have. I think he was stabbed at fire. No, maybe it wasn't fuck it on. All right, then I don't know. Another motivation here makes sense. It is. It is not clear what the motivation is for venom. Are any other things been? I'm like characters here. In in what I do actually like when they actually give the reason, I'm not gonna say they give when I give a reason for why Benham is not completely evil. The data just cracked up, laughing out loud and in we'll tell you this almost because we're not at this point. We're not watching a buddy southbound. We'll watching a romance. Sure. Then most to fuck Eddie. There's a make out scene here where he, you know, he takes over body of somebody who has the only way I could do the bullshit man. Kiss me. They can even talks to him. You make me better like. Like stars born is the love story. Yeah. No, no. Then I'm not look. I'm not making a joke then is gay for Eddie. Man. I'm not trying to make. You'll see you think I'm making some cheap Joe now I'm not. I'm not. And you know we should sit theater because it changes the way I look at this. I might have to bump it up. In this. You don't know what that motivation is there and the last ten minutes of the movie. I'll come. You wanna stroller though, because you've got that dick. This. Oh also, oh, I'm losing you Eddie even which which makes me value life more. I don't fucking know. Yeah, I know you're going to reveal that. Yeah, I'm saying that well, back my plan, I'm a loser like you made everybody laugh, but I was like, that's actually a good commentary on this film. Yeah. Yeah. You crack jokes, that planet as you do here, they want to get to you. Got right. Movie, reveals it. So what I even know, and that's what it's doing. The ending the ending is is, is rushed. They had this character riot who's been going through the narrows, the comics character riot who do the whole movie hasn't been taken over, nameless actors know nobody actors and they've been gone the whole movie all cracked out shit. That's the only thing we know. And then again, during the last ten minutes of the movie, that's when we start to hear all this shit about why he's here and what he's doing. And by the way, it's so rushed that it doesn't make any sense. It's how it's rush, but riot takes six months gift from Hong Kong to San Francisco. Try to give you try to give you this big batch store. We ought to give that was never party. It was never a priority for you at all. Don't game me this story. You must have. Raj. I'm just. Would it made more sense because backstory is like, I don't that you gonna tell me a little bit more. I suppose it is forty minutes cut out of this, but I was like, there's no forty minutes that could that could change. Well, no, this movie, it really would not made any would have been better trust me. It would have been better right and show them like MO, peculiar, two dollars. I'm gonna get my. The store. They tried to give us like, hey, you still mind that would have been enough. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. And as such, it is such a non-priority for them because the story that is because all the trying to do is rush you to to to.
