Venezuela's Ongoing Political Saga

"Venezuela is in the news again. There's a failed raid. Actually two of the advisors of one guy lull have resigned. They resigned Monday so I wanted to talk about Venezuela a little bit third rail topic of Latin America so over the weekend. I had the opportunity to connect with Gabriel Hetland Assistant Professor of Latin American Caribbean and US. Latino studies at the University of Albany and here is the conversation. Hey Gabriel thank you so much for being on Latino rebels radio great to be here. Venezuela seems to be doesn't seem to go away before we get into the deeper issues regarding Venezuela. I would love to get your reaction about what has happened over the last Last week in continuing this whole notion of this ex green beret with a raid. That was going to go after. Nicholas model can you begin to breakdown your reaction or or give your take on all this. I'll do my best. I'm shaking my head as you say. This almost makes me chuckle. And I've heard so many accurate ways to describe it tragedy meets farce handler with Alaska historian at nyu said someone else. From the Obama X. Obama said described it as keystone cops meets failed Bay of Pigs invasion someone else a bad rambo movie. I mean it's almost absurd if it weren't tragic at the same time so you know the sort of short story is that there's a a ex green beret Jordan gaudreau based in Florida. He's apparently guarded trump at a rally at some point in the last couple of years He seems to be described as totally out of touch with reality by everyone. Who's met him over the last several years he got involved into that. Anna's Waylon really randomly was last February at this concert. That March I guess when Richard Branson people was having a concert in Kuku Columbia on the border blah to raise for humanitarian aid and basically for an armed invasion of Venezuela by the opposition at failed utterly but from that point on Goo throw with his Sort OF SECURITY OPS Company in Florida Silver Corp got interested in Venezuela and the money that might be involved with toppling meadow and it as more and more of the details. Come out it's truly scandalous and Lurid and it's GonNa Impact Venezuela for a long time to come but There was a armed invasion. Which happened just over week ago on Sunday. and You know about little less than two dozen Folks got got off a boat An eight of them were killed and another fifteen or so were captured by the Venezuelan army. Apparently fisherman actually are the ones who initially captured them and their plan was to sort of invade Venezuela's through the ocean. You Know Landa boat make their way to cut off us. Topple them Dodo administration free Venezuela goto warehouses filled with cash. Us dollars take the cash leave and be treated as heroes Total absurd but what really makes it know scandalous as the main opposition leader. One Guy Dough is involved in this And there's more and more evidence coming out that he knew something about what was going to happen. It's not entirely clear how much he now and how much he knew and it appears that he didn't know a whole lot but in over last year he had a series of meetings. I think by phone basically with Guerrero and there's recordings with his voice and he's been invited to save. These are not true and he hasn't done so to my knowledge so far where he you know says it will support the agreement and one of his deputies apparently gave fifty thousand dollars as an initial payment which was supposed to go up to two hundred some million dollars And other Guido officials apparently had some level of knowledge the trump administration has denied it but in very interesting terms where Secretary Pompeo has said the US was not directly involved and so his use of the word directly suggests that they were somehow involved. That's what I mean exactly. And here's the thing that I would say about all this. Given how third rail of an issue Venezuela is there because it's so damn partisan this topic you could literally make a case that each party involved could have been involved. You know what I'm saying. I'm not trying to be like that's how messed up. Venezuela's right now in terms of the understanding because I'm sure that there are people who are saying well. This is his mother will conspiracy. You know he just created all this because you know the opposition and goes like I don't know anything about it the US. I feel like it was being taken from like amateur hour so it Kinda to me speaks to how Venezuela is often misunderstood misrepresented because it is being seen through a very hyper partisan lens that is so complex that I don't think it's reality right now in this is sort of an example of this absurd story that this sort of like bad. "But. Wouldn't Madero if he does arrest quite though, he wouldn't he be almost daring of the countries to take a more direct hand in Venezuela. I think much more to the point is that he would be daring the Venezuelan army the pivot on which this situation really tons to make a decision about whether or not they're going to back him or sack him, basically. Yes, outside POWs may have some relevance and importance. But I think it's the Venezuelan army that is the really important thing here, and Mary rightly pointed add the Guido has enjoyed the extraordinary amount of liberty. Will I can only assume that he has enjoyed all this liberty because the army has said to Madero you can only go so far. And if you go over that line, then you're in real trouble. Mary, do you think? That's right. What do you think? The army have already. I mean, you know, armies in similar situations. Do change their mind from time to time, which I guess is what Madurai was worried about. But so far they've been. This been some reports of desertions, but not certainly not of extremely senior figures. Sung far at least have have the Venezuelan military picked their team. Well, this is one of the most interesting aspects of the whole thing ever since January because essentially Venezuela's since then has had to regimes in parallel and the Guadagno oppression has the recognition as the legitimate president starting from the United States. And then a whole host of three dozen four dozen countries followed including Britain, followed the United States in recognizing quite as legitimate president. But Madora wouldn't give up and the army stuck with him. And that's where we are today. And so is sort of tend to tend to agree that the army has already picked it. Sorry. And in a way, I sort of I. Was very uneasy. I have to say at the very beginning when the United States decided to recognize as it were arrival president in Venezuela because it seemed to me that the jitney MRI of that was deeply questionable and UN recognition. So far as I know has not been withdrawn from Doro, which leaves him in the international context as being the legitimate leader of Venezuela. And I sort of think that the United States pushed it really a bit far a bit early. It wasn't just the United States, of course, most of Europe and Latin America indeed now recognizes Gordon would they have done that unless the United States at let very probably not George. It is the evergreen question over the last few years of the Venezuelan crisis. But is the any sign at all that Nadu ro whether you sympathize with him or not has a coherent and plausible plan for a way out of this. Because I think it's it's always worth revisiting the fact that this situation as well. As being tragic wretched is just ridiculous. There is no reason at all why Venezuela is not a wealthy prosperous orderly and functional country. And I think at some point the person in charge has to take a measure of responsibility for the fact that it isn't oh, I think he should take full responsibility for that without question. I think he's had any kind of plan for some time. There's not been much evidence of it. They have no they have a kind of magical fantasy almost parallel system going on. Don't forget that the body that took away guavas immunity was called the constituent assembly which was only set up because the national assembly otherwise known as the Venezuelan parliament is controlled by the opposition since the lost election. If you are at that kind of stage, you don't really have a plan for staying in power, you you you get down on your knees. Brig? Italy. And just pray that the army will stay with you for one reason or another and that something will happen to Guangzhou or guava will fade away. But none of that is going to happen. I think I think Maduro will go down. Eventually, it's just very difficult to tell exactly what the end game is going to be and how long it's gonna take depressingly. I suspect we're going to have ample opportunity to come back to that story. Oh, so we look now at France, which is discovering that legislating against fake news is less straightforward than might look..

"Like Tom Jones L Wilson the coming up in a little bit while we're all looking at North Korea and Doug now, but actual military. Tension is building up between South Korea and Japan. Danielle. In exile. General formerly of the Venezuelan army was published in today's Washington Post. Translation, by the way, Tony Rivera's and exiled Venezuelan military general living in Miami. Since two thousand fourteen fleeing what he claims to be a trumped up charge for participating in demonstrations against Madero. He says quote. In September of last year with Venezuela in the throes of the humanitarian disaster I met with Wanda Guido in Miami to discuss the political situation in our country. In may nNcholas Maduro was reelected president in an election. That was condemned by much of the international community because of widespread allegations of fraud at the time, I had great hopes that Guido who was poised to be president of the national assembly in January fifth could then serve according to the constitution as interim president of the nation on January tenth in the absence of eight legitimately elected leader. Which by the way is the situation that we're in while that has indeed come to pass quite took his oath of office on January twenty third any number of countries, including the United States have recognized him as interim president most of Venezuela's military have stuck by Madura side. Guido who I call president needs the support of the military to assume power Venezuela Venezuela's, high military command still has not recognised quite I was interim president or as Dante. In chief of the armed forces. Despite this being the best option for voting, internal war international intervention. Close quote real quickly. The Venezuelan army is a conscript army and eighteen to thirty years old is the cohort that they draft males only, and they serve a thirty month term, the the the US last time we had a draft the draft was two years twenty four months. So then the majority of the rank and file the listed guys in Venezuelan military, especially the army are concepts. And so. Their loyalty to Maduro and to the the army in general is dubious at best. Hundreds of them, maybe not thousands. But hundreds of them over the past couple months have disappeared. I've gone AWOL many of them with their weapons and the Venezuelan army is just like the US army you draw your weapon, you go to the range shoot you turn it back in you can go back to barracks. So some of these guys are taking great risks, and they're actually hauling ass with their weapons not that there's any shortage of of weapons in Colombia or or elsewhere. Back to general Rivera's prognostications. He quote, unfortunately, trying to flip the military's position will be an uphill battle. I hold this you based on what I have heard for military officials that I remain in contact with and based on my thirty years in the Venezuelan military, I serving as an active soldier, then working my way up to Brigadier General, there are a number of factors that have so far prevented the military from recognizing Guido I within the military high command there is a deeply impregnated filial commitment to the late president, Hugo Chavez and his ideology this is partially because promotions are often based on such loyalties Madero was known to occasionally purge disloyal members, just like Chavis. Second the armed forces received privileges at the highest levels such as promotions bonuses and kickbacks third. Many within the military or involved in listed activities such as drug trafficking. Those in the higher ranks off direct those operations and some have also committed crimes against humanity. So those are his three factors. Obviously from third verse. These guys realize if anyone but Madero is in charge. I'm gonna be in the dock for firing into ordering the dispersal of protest crowds with leaf lamb. Oh, drug running the whole thing. Those guys at this point. Are having to do the math about how loyal they feel to Madero? So going back to what I was talking about last hour. If you don't know this the United States military, the the army in particular. Has has a secret weapon that Venezuela doesn't have the Mexico doesn't have. And that is we have Venezuelans in the US military. They came here as immigrants. And or the emigrated to the United States to join the military. And then besides that we have many many, many, many thousands and thousands of native Spanish speakers hundreds of which are in military intelligence in the army in defense intelligence at the Pentagon. So there from soup to nuts. What this means for Venezuela is in preparation of a possible intervention because you don't just flip a switch and say intervene since. The since the national command authority known known as police has said publicly stated that all options are on the table. What that means is extensive preparations which have been made for a decade in Venezuela. The the okay crap plan has the Anka's dried on that. In a long time ago. We had the crap plan for Panama from the sixties when Omar to heal was the military strongman, it was basically how to overthrow whichever military. Strongman is currently running Panama. We have a similar thing for Venezuela and data we have one for Columbia as well. And it begins with what's called the intelligence preparation of the battlefield, and whether or not you actually plan to invade doesn't change the fact that you have to do this stuff you have to begin sewing divisiveness at the highest levels of the Venezuelan military. And so these guys all have cell phones, we know their cell phone numbers. They have computers at home their kids have cell phones. We have a full court press going on where not only are we calling their cell phones directly. But in all likelihood, we're calling their cell phones over saying never answered this again. However, yours going to be a FedEx package at your office. Tomorrow. Do not let anyone else open it. But you they opened the package, and look there's a slick clean totally deniable burner phone, and it has no numbers in it. And magically it works on your Venezuelan cell system. And then the phone rings. Now, the other end is that voice that you heard yesterday, and he calls himself Jose or Miguel or San or whatever. And he says, I'm your friend in America. I have a similar rank is you? And there's going to be two futures. There's gonna be to February's too probably to marches in Venezuela. There's going to be one or you can be hero, and they will build statues to you. There could be another one where they hang you from a lamp post. And it all depends on what you do in in the next few days. How do you want to be remembered, and and you know, and this is what is very powerful message part of the reason that we sent all that aid to Colombia to the west of Venezuela. And part of the reason it's sitting there very openly publicly stuck on a bridge that Madeira has blocked is because it's humanitarian aid. It's not it's not the it's not the seventh marines. It's a bunch of food is food for Venezuelans and Venezuelans are leaving Venezuela because they don't have food and people in Caracas starving and look at this. There's food there's free food at that bridge. There's food in this eight lane highway Medeiros blocked it the pressure. That's mounting. If you're a poor person in a bar area. Like you heard last hour and your kids are going to bed hungry. How loyal are you to this a-hole to Madeira, and maybe your brother's in the army, maybe your cousins in the? Army? This is the point where the Venezuelan army is being presented with such a start mistreatment of their own people by Maduro and the system that they're having to ask themselves. What side of my on? Am I gonna stick it on the side continue running drugs and help my own men? Don't shoot me in the head or am. I going to be the guy am I going to be the am. "KFI AM six forty more stimulating talk. It is the dark secret place. In here until eleven o'clock and next hour. We'll do a deep dive into the intermediate forces or intermediate nuclear forces treaty cited nineteen eighty seven and now apparently dissolved unilaterally as is allowed by the United States. And why that is locally, yuck. Stay tuned KFI, and we will have any breaking news in regards to mandatory evacuations that affect you in Orange County and Riverside County around the holy fire near like Elsinore up in Ventura County as the Ventura river flood stage is very concerning nearing Ventura rivers level, which is nearing flood stage is being watched. So stay tuned. And we will have the latest there with the KFI newsroom so back to Venezuela. So just to remind you twenty years ago when shabas the revolutionary Venezuelan army paratrooper leader who had been in jail for a coup failed. Kill a few years before. Now ran as a civilian for president of Venezuela twenty years ago, he won twenty years ago, this January he won. When he took over Venezuela. It was the richest economy in South America. Why shouldn't it be? They were standing on oil. In fact, Venezuela was so prosperous that the. Narcotics gang problem in. Venezuela was one one hundreds of what it was in Columbia in Columbia. There was a surplus of young men. There was a shortage of jobs, and it it it it created what we know in history happens when you have a bubble of man, and it was a lot of guys chasing after that much money and Narko violence broke out all through Colombia things are way different in two thousand eighteen for Columbia than they were in one thousand nine hundred ninety eight meanwhile in Venezuela, they were pumping oil and in one thousand nine hundred ninety eight oil was doing pretty well. And the Venezuelan economy was for in all of South America. It was the gangbusters economy. There was a huge class of servicing the oil sector, which was government owned. Just like it is in Saudi Arabia in Kuwait in Qatar in Dubai. There's no there's no Texaco's. In venezuela. There's no mobile or shell in Venezuela. There is the Venezuelan national gas companies citgo, you know, this. They retail gas here in the US Venezuelan state gas company, but they don't refine it in Venezuela in Venezuela. They have one refinery and so when Chavez took over the purse strings of Venezuela. He was a socialist revolutionary admirers of Castro, and he add something Castro didn't have and that was affectively a bottomless checkbook, and so he began this extremely expensive program of free national medicine. Free college, subsidize cooking oil subsidize sugar, subsidized flower, subsidized everything subsidized cars, and he was implying the throw money at the poor school of revolutionary popularity and in doing so his plan was from the beginning to eliminate the bourgeoisie the middle class, and he was told this by everything he read from marks from his buddy Castro from all of his revolutionary cronies. He was told you have to get rid of that middle class because they are leeches. They are remorse. They contribute nothing to society. They're the ones that work in the banks, and they own the little stores of people. Oh money to the whole thing. So you have to. You have to socialize them out of existence. And it very nearly worked of the Venezuelan middle class is very resilient and the need for for accountants and small stores and used car dealers and things like that that are very middle class occupations and never went away. As as much as CIA says wanted there to be the government class. And then everybody else it could never fully do that Chavez discovered. Something he died in two thousand fourteen in spite of all free medicine. He died in two thousand fourteen and as he died, he did realize that if you just give poor people free money you have bought their loyalty. But you better hope that the money never never runs out because the second you start feeding the bears and you run out of money, then guess what looks like food and some of the first blips in the international oil economy happened when Chavez was still alive. For instance. The American pioneer technique of fracking of hydraulic fracturing to release natural gas that something had had began began having an impact on the international oil sector. After by about two thousand ten and for anybody who could see ahead. This technology was not going to be uninventive. And what it primarily did was it continued to allow the United States to have near energy self-sufficiency, certainly in natural gas, and that had an impact on the international oil market so Chavis had to start deciding where was he going to cut? And so for the first time he started hearing rumblings from the poor people when he began cutting some of their subsidies more on Venezuela Venezuela, when we come back is there an American intervention in the works some some propaganda coming out of somewhere. We'll get to that. Right. After this. It is a dark secret place.

"Incentives to Venezuelan army officers to come over to their side. And hoping that the US can reestablish control of Venice. In that matter. But if that fails, I think there is a chance that the US would consider an invasion of Venezuela. This would not be the first or even the second or third preference of the Pentagon or the or the State Department, but it might be very attractive to Donald Trump for several reasons in two thousand sixteen during the campaign. Speaking of Iraq, Trump said to the Victor belong the spoils you have to go in and take the oil, you could call this a Trump, doctrine and Venezuela has the world's largest oil reserves. Now, very often Auriol is used as the explanation for the motor for US invasions and foreign policy, and I think his role is usually way overblown people give it too much weight in the analysis. But in this case, it might turn out to be very relevant, given the Trump has that doctrine and is now personally in power. Secondly. Politically, Trump needs a new war. Trump has been stuck with for him. The being in the embarrassing position of just being able to continue the old W Bush and Obama wars there's a consensus among US mainstream historians that no president can be great unless he has a war. They say this all the time and Trump now, of course, is in some political difficulty. So for him at action where the US went into Venezuela in spectacular fashion. Did it quick in the style of the US invasions of Grenada or or Panama didn't get bogged down, but just went in say for a few weeks killed without restraint? Which is the doctrine Trump is now applying to US forces worldwide. He's basically told the in the Pentagon don't worry about any constraints on civilian casualties that maybe existed before do what you will. In fact, in Afghanistan, he celebrated the dropping of what was called the mother of all bombs, this this massive explosive which is the closest conventional explosive that you can get to a nuclear weapon. This was dropped in a mountainous region of Afghanistan and Trump was crowing about it after. So a quick invasion with massive force that succeeds in toppling the government, and then we're the US gets out quickly is the kind of thing that could in theory be attractive to Trump. And it's also the kind of thing that I guarantee you would be praised the heavens on CNN on MSNBC, and this would be a sweet political victory for Trump now, whether it's actually possible to pull off a quick successful military, invasion of Venezuela is entirely different question because it would face major resistance, even if some of the army had already switched sides to the US side, there would be a lot of people who would want to resist it. But it is the case that the reality in Venezuela today is very different than it has been. During during earlier years of the boulevard, Ian movement and in Venezuela. The US has always and this is an important point for understanding the US context, the US doesn't care at all about elections. They don't care at all about the poor completely fake. Elections are fine with them the US just. Not long ago finished ratifying, a fraudulent election in on.

"A forty more stimulating talk. Is that aren't secret place? Eleven. Say last six string tweets he takes. The brilliant traits of of Iowa Hawkeye blog on Twitter. Who who is is written a ballot of Springsteen like ballot for all the people getting laid off at Huffington and BuzzFeed. And so I just tweeted that out it's pretty funny putting putting his his tweets music. Very brilliant guy being brought to music by a brilliant musician sixteen tweets so the apparent saw between North Korea and the Trump administration the United States is going to manifest itself as I said last week in summit two point. Oh, and that looks like it's going to be happening. Probably in Vietnam sometime in late February, we'll be much more agenda. This time though, ultimately the chasm is Trump promised denuclearize. And the North Koreans have no intention of giving up the one absolute guarantee, they have of being a regime and would would the United States signed a treaty. That says we promise in no way. Shape or form ever to. Caused the downfall of the Kim crime family North Korea. Would I I don't know that if if the North Korean said, yeah, we you can come in and inspect our country for six months, and you can break up our our nuclear technology and the whole thing, but they're not going to say that. So it's as I've been saying the the part where we just learned to live with a nuclear North Korea is is going to be the new reality. Well, events are happening very very fast in Venezuela. But the bottom line is an election was held. A. The. Couple of weeks ago, but we're going to have ago now international observers. All agree that there was skulduggery around the election. But the initial count was that the opposition leader is the winner. But he won the actual election. When counted the votes, he had more than nNcholas Maduro, the, quote socialist who took over for Chavez after Chavez died and Madero is refusing to step down, and you already have people lining up calling this the United States looking for an excuse for a coup or whatever. Now, keep in mind Venezuela's, a huge country a country approximately sixty million people, and there's been tremendous investment in their military, mainly through client states, like Russia and Iran Madero is a communist, he's not a socialist. He is a communist and the country's economy has absolutely cratered. And this is a country, by the way that can pump oil out of the ground for free. But they can't seem to turn a profit somehow. And now they're shooting at their people. And so now. The United States and President Trump have evacuated all non essential diplomatic personnel out of Caracas. The United States has recognized Mr. guide. Oh as the legitimate president. Venezuela and the United States is effectively said to our European partners. Take a stand. Who wins do you? If you believe in democracy than one guide. Oh is the new president who needs to be sworn in as the president of Venezuela. Have you believe in intimidation strongman, then don't say anything or back Madero the Russians, of course, have picked aside? They picked a side two months ago when they announced that they now have a airbase in Venezuela. Remember that the the audio of that female reporters standing on the runway as a Russian tea when sixty landed about island Venezuela, by the way, those were a pair of those are intercepted off Alaska and British Columbia a few weeks of a couple of days ago. The Russians are more and more trying to you know, in this case flying, the t you when sixties from Russia down the east coast the United States to their new Cuba, which is Venezuela. And then now flying on the on the west coast, but the Russians have come out and taking a stand and said that this is all interference on the part. This is this is Cold War-style interference on the part of the Americans. In this time taking the form of claiming that a guy who got more votes should be sworn in in accordance with his nation's constitution. And here's the thing. Everybody the United Nations everybody who went there to actually monitor that election agrees that one glide ratio won that election, and nNcholas Maduro is no longer the legitimate, president Venezuela for his part, he has pulled as many diplomats who will go and he's broken off diplomatic relations with the United States for his problem is his senior military attache at the Venezuelan embassy in DC refuses to go home, and he has sworn his allegiance to the new president elect one Widodo and he did this over Twitter. He he made his pronouncement from his office in DC, the Venezuelan ministry of defence. Immediately tweeted out that the guy was a traitor. They put a traitor stamp over his picture. And tweeted that out the problem is. He's not alone. The Venezuelan military believing this but the Venezuela military is hopelessly political and the only people get promoted the people who call the shots and give the orders are all leg hunters of who go child has. And now nNcholas Maduro. And if you're if you're disloyal you didn't make it past captain. So the Venezuelan army is generally considered right now to be loyal to him, but they have been badly treated just like the rest of the Venezuelan economy. They were paid in toilet paper about a year ago. They had this big TV special or they were showing that the army army soldiers were being paid in something more valuable than than bolivars than than the currency. They were being paid in toilet paper is the nation. Couldn't get toilet paper in the country. More on this another event. The Maduro government is trying to get gold out of the Bank of England. I'll tell you about that right after this but events are spinning faster and faster done Venezuela. That and more coming up. It is replaced. Brian suits in here until eleven KFI. "They are still stomping on countries they don't like in their neighborhood. And this is the unchecked face of imperialism, and regardless of the hypocrisy of saying that it would be that would have some mileage and the US Muccio option might be insane. Is it though realistic not I mean in terms of could the US successfully deposed in the door regime. Yes. Of course, the US has an enormous expeditionary military. The Venezuelan army is, you know, not small but hasn't been well paid hasn't been particularly well managed the the military chiefs yesterday pledged their loyalty to the Madero regime. So I think there would be, you know, there would be resistance. But ultimately. It could be done if the order came down from the national command authority to depose Madero and elevate someone else's place. The the US could do that could it manage the insurgency that would fall successfully almost certainly not. I mean, as you say that the top generals had not pledged loyalty to Madeira. I mean that is looking like it's pushing tools of civil war situation. Well, maybe I think the dynamics were a little bit hard to see. I mean, the, you know, leapt military leadership matters a lot when it comes to just just in general, not specifically the Venezuelan case, you military leadership. Does matter a lot when it comes to the loyalty of soldiers. But you know soldiers aren't getting paid if they're if they can't afford medicine for their family. They can't afford toilet, paper, basic necessities. You know, your commanding officer telling you go and fight and kill and die for this. "Boy. I couldn't tell I know what I read it this morning, but I can't tell you the guy who's in power now as Maduro, correct? And by the way, the Venezuelan military just said that they are siding with Maduro. So this has the potential to get pretty ugly for the opposition on one side, you have Russia and Madero and the Venezuelan army on the other side, you have the United States UK Brazil Argentina all backing the opposition leader. Yeah. It's it's got the potential to get quite quite ugly. If this gets gets volunteer. Yeah. The the other side, by the way, the opposition leader was in December elected, the president of the Venezuelan assembly. And so he effectively has tried to take power in the last few days now, and I still can't pull up his name one grotto. G? A I I'm not sure if that's the corruption association. Okay. I'll go with Donald Trump officially recognized him and then Brazil Argentina Canada. And I believe the UK all followed suit. So remains to be seen exactly where this is going to go. But this could turn into a little bit of a. A little bit of a tinderbox not because Venezuela's economy in particular is anything to write home about. In fact, it's pretty awful right now. But just in terms of the opposing forces that are kind of viewing this as a proxy in some sense. Yeah. One of those fortunate unfortunate situations is incredibly oil rich country. So there's going to be blame laid at whoever's feat that ends up in power there that they're just trying to grab the oil reserves. But I think they experienced one thousand percent inflation last year just unfathomable in other news.
