"Off the ball movement, the combination play between hatch and Morgan and then obviously going into the tournament and really seemed to become clear, certainly obviously as hatch got injured in that after that Jamaica game. But it became clear that this team played quite differently with Morgan. So I think that's a missed opportunity for hatch in that. We talk about forward depth on this team and it does exist. There's an abundant amount of forward depth, but that's kind of a general term in the number 9 position right now with macario hurt. It's really it's Morgan and then that opportunity for hatch, which obviously she'll want to have had a better opportunity there between the injury. And not quite showing that off the ball movement and that finishing that maybe it was needed from her. So if the number 9 position was up for grabs coming into this tournament, it looks like Alex Morgan has it locked down. Another position that I think maybe wasn't as openly upper grabs, but it's certainly a position of curiosity as we move forward is goalkeeper. Where do you think we stand in terms of the race for the number one goalie spot with the U.S. coming out of the Concacaf W championship? I think possibly the most interesting battle here in that we really don't know what going to is thinking at this moment. He actually, I think somewhat curiously did not get asked that. Postgame after the final and maybe with everything going on, but you know, you look at it looked very much like Casey Murphy had overtaken Alyssa Nara for that number one spot and then his staff go back to the veteran there who obviously 2019 World Cup winner. They go back to her for the final against Canada, tested a little bit. I think nichelle prince had some opportunities that we saw in that opening highlight where Canada had a few opportunities in the first half, but otherwise not a lot of questions asked of nair in that game. Murphy had some questions asked of her certainly in that Costa Rica match. There were a couple of little moments of perhaps uncertainty and maybe you could relate that to a rotating back line, but we come out of this tournament where I don't think we have an answer of who the number one goalkeeper is. Obviously one year to figure that out. But where it looked like Murphy had maybe taken a hold of that nair starts that final and I think potentially does that indicate that Flacco wants to go back to that veteran hand and a big moment. I think that's something perhaps one of the biggest questions to watch over the next year. "In World Cup pass where Concacaf teams have come in and haven't really represented the way that we would like them to do. I mean, obviously Panama struggled. And so what I would love to see is at least if Canada don't make it out of their group, at least represent Concacaf with some with some class, just kind of show that we're continuing to get better and continuing to be more competitive. Casey, I'm pretty optimistic about Canada. I've realized it's a tough group, but when you look at what they do have, I think compared to everybody else in Concacaf, right? They probably got the best finishers in David and lahren. And I don't know if you'd agree with me here, but probably the best wide attacking threats in Davies and tajan Buchanan. Those would seem to me to be good pieces, good elements to a formula to success in tournament soccer. That at least fair to say for Canada. It's fair that they definitely have some pieces. They're young, they're inexperienced at that level, obviously. And I think that's going to be one of the most difficult things is having so many players that really haven't been on that big stage and look, it's very similar with the U.S. team as well. Yes, you got a lot of guys playing at clubs and doing things, but not qualifying for the last world cup. Definitely puts them in a little bit of a disadvantage. So yes, I agree with you, Seth. I think Canada have some really intriguing pieces in their side and so much of it will depend on like we see in so many different teams who don't have the biggest squads, are the right players fit and inform at the right time. I mean, it's a question that Canada is going to have to deal with and it's a big issue that the U.S. are going to have to deal with as well. So Casey, obviously you were talking to the guys from Bayern Munich ahead of the upcoming Bundesliga season, which, wow, it's starting 11 days from now August 5th, crazy how quickly the season kind of sneaks up on us in that regard. Let's focus on some Americans because there's a lot of players in the U.S. men's national team pool that are obviously in the Bundesliga Hercules Gomez not here for this edition of the show, but will still start up top because that's the position that I think most people want to talk about. He also went off injured in this match, so some good news some bad news. Yeah, that is the big deal. He left the field injured and that has been the problem with an old human. It's just the fact that he's finding the back of the net is good news. I hope he gets his confidence back because as we established already the Mexican national team really needs their number 9. They need their number 9. They need him healthy. They need everybody really in that to get scoring. So we got raul Jimenez coming off injured, but at least finding goals and back to back preseason games now, but he's not the only one that Corona also heating up. Maui scored for Seville and a one one draw in sporting. Yeah, believe it or not, he was probably the player in best shape of it. Finishing the club season, he was actually the one who saw the more number of minutes and the best minutes as well as say, yeah, that was a fantastic move for technical Corona. Hopefully he can establish himself as an a starter for Sevilla. And what's always missing with that, the final product. There you saw some final product right there. How about Andres guardado back at PSV for pre season with Alberta, you got a hero's welcome at his former club where now of course era Gutierrez is playing in midfield. So they squared off now. "Break in, not to the team, but to the starting lineup at the World Cup. All right, let's talk about another player who is on the verge of a move. And that's Diego Linus, who has been left in Spain as Betty's begins their pre season abroad, the 22 year old Mexican international hardly played last season. That's the reality. He did win a Copa del Rey, so you got a winner's medal at least. He's been linked Mao most recently and most heavily who are just promoted from the second division. What do you think is on many of the spot to revive Diego Linus's right now stagnant club career? It's going to get minutes there, then yes. I mean, that's a simple as that. The airline is has to go to a place where the manager understands his skills appreciates that things that he can do on the field and ultimately just trusts vehicle lines. That has been the biggest issue within and the broken relationship with Manuel Pellegrini. So I'm Maria may be actually a good landing spot for the eagle liners, even though this is a team that will fight just to be in the primary. If you see them, they just got promoted. I was just trying to figure out the way they play. They play a four two three one and the way they play, I believe it actually fits vehicle liners if he's going to be a wingers starting either from the right or the left hand side. The fact that he already has three years of experience in Europe, even though he hasn't played much. But he knows the league. He understands the dynamics and if the competitions is not going to be as strong in terms of finding minutes for him as it was that is that it's just a perfect move. Two different cases, right? Santiago Jimenez San Diego line is right now priority number one for the alliance. You have to find a place where you're going to see minutes right away. No, no, in October, right away. The season starts in a couple of weeks. It has to happen now. Got to find a place where you wanted to find a place where you need it too. "Don't say stop talking. Come back to Mexico. Watch league MX games. And be quiet because there's nothing that he has said in recent past that has made any sense whatsoever. And the fact that there's contradicting reports, I think it's just, it just pains it here, picture of where Tata Martinez head is at right now. This is a great move. And we have to think big picture. And we're still just thinking, what's gonna happen for Mexico's number 9 at the walk of 2022, and then we're trying to make that the main reason for Santiago Jimenez to make a choice do I live or do a stay? That's the wrong view that's the wrong way to see it. I think it is actually a great move because he's going to go to a more competitive league. He's going to have some minutes. He's going to have better competition around him. It's only going to make him a better player and that's exactly what you want for the Mexican national team. Have better players. Is he going to start in November in Qatar? Maybe not, but this is the future. Santiago Jimenez is the future of the position and it's fantastic news for the Mexican national team that he gets to leave this early in his career. Look, if he does start, we know you're getting some ink. We know you're getting that tattoo. It's a huge impact for the national team program for 2026. I think for 2022 as well now because we know this. If there's a Mexican player scoring in Europe, it doesn't matter where the pressure on Tata martino is going to be intense. And if I would give men still isn't scoring and punish money isn't getting the job done, a guy scoring in Europe. That's a hell of an ace to play. "Guy can be a difference maker for us. This guy can score an important goal for us in a moment that matters. This guy is gonna help Carlos vela in those moments in which people focus on Carlos vela, and there isn't somebody else who can maybe provide something special. Gareth Bale can do that individually, even at this point in his career. But that's for now. My point about next season is that I don't think even Gareth bale knows what happens after the World Cup. I don't think that the decision he's made just yet. I think he has in his mind and I'm putting myself in his shoes and those are big shoes to fill, by the way, that I'm putting myself into his mindset and he is right now getting ready to then hit the World Cup and hit the ground running, feel good about himself, feel good about Wales and what potentially could be a great experience for him and his teammates and his national team and the whole country of Wales. Once he goes through that, I don't know that the level of engagement unless he has a great, great end of the season here with LAFC and it's a great experience for him to have the motivation to keep going at a high level. So because I don't know what happens with Gareth Bale next season, I'm gonna take guys with Carlos vela now and I'm gonna say in senior bernardeschi next year, also assuming that those guys become very much a part of this league and buy into this league and are excited to be in this league. "There isn't a whole lot of difference between them and the rest of the other teams in the Western Conference. So for me, when I think of a team that has a higher ceiling, you have to imagine that that is LA to see. They're more explosive in the attack. They're defending just as well as the LA galaxy. If you put them together right now, side by side, you have to pick one to win MLS copy would have to be LAFC. Yeah, obvious answer here is definitely LAFC. If I'm looking for an advantage for the LA galaxy and I say, well, if they play in Carson, we know LAFC can't win there, but if you look at the standings, I think it's very unlikely that LAFC would indeed have to go to Carson to play a big game. I think the other thing that we have to acknowledge when we look at these two teams is in terms of management. Maybe they're the LA galaxy have an advantage, right? Greg vanny has done it before in MLS cup. I think Steve tyrande, incredible playing career, but that managerial resume a little bit thin. Ali I was looking at the MLS cup odds earlier. And right now, LAFC in New York City are the Las Vegas favorites. If you look at the Western Conference, would you have LAFC right now is your favorite over team per se like Seattle because I know I know recently on ESPN FC I felt like I heard you, you weren't very convinced of that killing you signing. My position on the killing sign in is that this is not the direction that Major League Soccer has been heading into over the last few seasons or at the very least the rhetoric, the messaging coming out of MLS is that we're looking for young, exciting players who calm and develop here in Major League Soccer become the best version of themselves, and then eventually because you're part of the market. Now you go on sellers somewhere else and then they go and play saying the Premier League in the case O Miguel miron. That seemed to be the thought pattern going forward with MLS. Has as good a professional as he has been for Juventus. That's great a player who has been for Juventus for Italy as world class defender as he has been, the truth is part of the reason as to why he has had a difficult time over the last couple of seasons with Juventus this injuries. And that's a problem. That's an issue. That's not about your level of play that has to do more with where and tear. And that's not going to get any better. If there is something that we say about MLS is the physicality of this leak, the back and forth, the running. And then the traveling as well. This thing that we mentioned about MLS Tom and Tom again don't go away just because killing you show up. This thing still remains. And so keeling will have to deal with some of the same circumstances that MLS players have had to deal with over the last decade or so. That doesn't change at all. For me, it just doesn't seem to match the rhetoric and messaging coming from MOS that they're moving away from older players. This is an all defender that has had a history of injuries in the recent past. To the part of the question about who's the favorite out west. I'm looking at the odds, right? LAFC plus four 50 to win MLS cup. Seattle plus 900 to win MLS cup. That's a huge difference. If you had some shackles to throw on this, who would you bet on out of the west to make it to MLS cup? LAFC or Seattle or maybe somebody else. The case of Seattle is an interesting one because the success of Concacaf Champions League, I think already gives them a pass this season. And yet, since they're not going to be the favorites in the Western Conference given their current position, they're just going to drift under the radar and yes, I'm saying that the Seattle sounders seem to be drifting under the radar in the Western Conference. They usually have been at the top or near the top and would go into the playoffs as one of the favorites. LAFC will have all the pressure on them because I think that we all recognize that in terms of the talent level, they seem to be at a higher level than most teams in the Western Conference. So they should be the favorites. But do not discount the Seattle sounders. And I feel like I'm talking like Hercules now because he can not get through one of the shows without mentioning the Seattle Sanders. And his relationship with the Seattle sounders. He seems to forget, by the way, a little shout out here to Hercules. He seems to forget that he played for just about every team in this league. There it is. And there it is. Somehow, somehow he just kind of brings back the Seattle Sanders. Yes, they're very near and dear to my heart. Well, what about everybody else? You forgot about everybody else? They're not important. All right, never mind. Sidetrack. All I'm saying is that the Seattle sounders are a team that once you get into the playoffs, you think that they're going to make a run. But the favorites are LAFC. It is worth noting Hercules fair-weather affiliations. When it comes to ligaments, it's also tigress who happened to be the best of his former teams, right? That he always seems to bring up. All right, so look, a big part of the LAFC story is what's going to happen with Carlos vela, whose contract expires at the end of the month. Now we may have gotten a window into what's going to happen from Bella's postgame comments after the match this weekend. Let's listen in. Yeah, of course. I think. We create a really good team. We are doing pretty well. I feel good to be here. I enjoyed to play in LA with our fans. And of course I have that thing of mine to win a trophy with this club. So in my head is always focused on that. But in the end, this is business. We are working on that, but I'm open to be here, but if it's not working and this thing will happen, I'm also hoping to leave find another place. So full body like that, life is like that. So it's nothing to complain. Just see if in the end we can make the deal or not. How are we got reports of a deal, but nothing official in the clock is ticking. So tell me what you think. Should LAFC extend 33 year old Carlos vela long-term? Not long term, I would extend them for the next couple of seasons, but that's not a long term. Now, a couple of things. Look at it from the perspective of Carlos vela. Where are you going to go Carlos? Where is it? Where is it that the next opportunity is going to be, you're going to go back to league and I don't think so. That's not where you feel most comfortable. Certainly that hasn't been the case in the past. So where is this next deal going to come from? You are a player who has all the power in LAFC and has been historically productive for LAFC and MLS. "Huge development out of South Texas Myra Flores a Republican running against this guy, Danny Garcia, a Democrat for an open sea, the seat vacated by philemon vela, who got an appointment in the Biden administration. This has been a democratic seat for a hundred years. And Myra Flores needed not just a win. She had to get to 50% to avoid a runoff and she did. So she has flipped the seat. This narrows further the Pelosi margin in the house, which is already very tiny. And so, and it signals a larger trend that's going on in South Texas. Now, this is actually where you grew up. This is my home turf. This is my dream come true. And so, you know, when we interviewed Myra a few months ago, and I was, you know, I helped with the interview, I was one of the I talked to her as well. And I said, listen, this is my dream come true to make to make the valley red. I mean, I just, you know, always dreamed of that. Even when I was 14 years old, I met Ronald Reagan in harlington. That was something that, you know, hey, we have to flip this, this county red. And she did. Now, we have to help her because it's going to get a little dicey come November. Because they have done a redistricting in the valley. And so her seat is now redistricted in a way that actually gives a Democrat a 17 point lead. Caleb's in crisis. What? What have you now? I mean, after a game he scores three goals, it's really easy to be like, yeah, man, give this man a two year deal. Like, let's go right now. Pony it up. No, I think this is insane. What last week we were literally talking about Carlos vela setting his own economy, like him doing creating his own currency, creating his own CBA doing everything and we were all saying, give it to him. Now he comes off at halftime and we're coming back the next week. Oh, should we just, it might be smarter to just kind of let this walk away? No, he came off at halftime. We don't know how serious the injury is. But from my perspective, if Carlos vela wants to play for your club and you are able to make that type of signing, you make it. You make that ten out of ten times. And like, yeah, he hasn't had the he hasn't had the health over the past year. He's two years. Sometimes looked a little bit disinterested. But who else in the league can do what he did the week before? And who would bet against him doing it a week or two from now again..

Let alone off the bench. We wish we had a Mousasi. Let alone you're bringing him off the bench to be real, maybe that could be our body from last year. And we'll talk more about the rapids in that sense here in a second here. How do you think this vela thing shakes out though? Anybody have a prediction? 18, 24? Does it feel safe to say he will be back or are we still in? Why would you say I'm guessing for 24 months that would mean you're back in a situation where his contract's up in June again? That would fit he wants to keep him, right? Yeah. That's fair. The roles of the structure is shift. That's leverage. That's what I'm saying. It is. Yeah, and generally, when Taylor says something, I feel like it's not just out of thin air, right? Like he's done his homework and on top of these things. So I was thinking, you know, vela may be gone. But that sort of reporting during that match last night made me a lot more hopeful just as somebody who wants to watch fell as much as possible that we're going to see him and see this best of this LA of CT. And if you're LAFC, you do what you can to hold on to this guy because I think he's still got a ton of look for the next couple of years. I mean, how long have we had players like this at this peak level for this long for one club from start of their first day as an MLS team to years going ahead and that can get you through multiple managers that can get you through some bad times to bring you back up pretty quickly and I don't know as a fan of the league I'm hopeful now..

"Are you 18? He said 18 to 24 months. He specifically said he thinks it's going to happen within the next couple of weeks. And he said, new contract, extension for 18 to 24 months. Obviously, we don't know what the numbers will be either for the length or the money, but good timing if I'm a negotiation standpoint for the link then the money to just drop a hat. For a second. And just forget contract expire in the middle of the year. Can I speak to that? If I was Carlos vela or a DP in the MLS, I would try who had European potential and interest in a history I would be trying to have my contract up in the summer for maximum leverage. Yeah, but that's why I guess but if you're in the last year, you don't do it. Sure, but if your Carlos vela, you say, hey, you want me? The deal. You should also get that. You should also be an MLS player who has a player option instead of a team option. That would be a good idea too. I think there's a reason that it's not really possible. But when we talk about velo, we talk about health, right? We don't talk about quality. We don't talk about commitment. We don't talk about how we can change the game. We just ask, will he be at a 100%? Because if he is, this is who he is. This is who he's been every day he's been MLS in MLS when he's at this level. This is where he's sort of been over the last ten years. And I think that's the exciting part as a fan of this league. And as someone who watches it consistently, you saw him feel comfortable and be able to do the things that he does at a high level. And you just see on the second goal, they win the ball back in immediately see Fuentes is like, if I can just get it to vella, he's gonna make something happen. I don't even need it to be the perfect pass. And then he just makes it happen from there. He's special, it was fun. I love that fall came and did the shine your shoe celebration. Bella didn't, he was like, no, dude, we're good. And it was like, no, I have to respect you in this way. I'm not a scientist. And it was awesome. And I think you saw the 32 52 balancing after the goal. It just felt it felt like bank of California was sort of back for the first time in two years. What is the thing that's overriding the thematically for the weekend? Well, I had something, but then you were just so effusive and glowing in your praise. That is my big thing from the weekend. Everybody's just filled in the world with good vibes today. The big thing for me, it was the struggles of the CCL teams. I thought Seattle Montreal, you know, and I'm blanking on the other two teams for Colorado. Well, Colorado obviously and NYCFC. NYC. Thank God, thank you. David, right? This is what I mean, you threw me off with all that positivity with me. I'm going to get that done. I mean, well, so Colorado stone can CCL, but NYCFC Seattle in Montreal were all very good. Those teams combined to go no wins for losses, no draws, zero goal scored, 7 goals conceded 5 in the second half. It was just a good reminder of how hard it is to balance CCL and the regular season, especially at the start of the year. And over the past four years, in 2018, a CCL teams in MLS week one went one, three, and one. In 2019, they were one, two, and two. In 2020, that was an outlier. They went four one and O 2021 last year. No one's too losses, three draws, only two goals scored. So what the union did last year being competitive in the regular season, being competitive in the CCL all the way to the semifinals. You don't see that every year. It hurts to play in this competition for most teams..

America's national parks face existential crisis over race

ABC is Devon Dwyer talked to the National Park Service's first Latino Park service director about the challenges, racism and history that have made it difficult to get more black and brown Americans into national parks. The sweeping vista stir the soul, wildlife and waterfalls awaken a sense of wonder. American wilderness of playground for old and for young and overwhelmingly white. When you look around, you don't see people that you identify with you Don't Feel welcome.
