"Leave? You know, I never started out. You know, with the desire to become the CEO of a large public company. Yeah. I was grey who happened to become the CEO. And so it never became, I never let it become my true identity. Did I did I think of Walgreens as family and had tremendous relationships with the company? Yes, still do. But you know, I had the very fortunate opportunity to have retired after 35 years. It's still a relatively young age, and now create my next chapter. And I think I go, it goes all the way back to my days in Las Vegas and my days are running Walgreens health service and so forth. Every CEO has to drive execution results. But I think what every what most enjoy are trying to find ways to grow companies and the way you grow your large companies today is through innovation. And that's what I really enjoy. So while I had a 35 year first career that I absolutely loved and exceeded beyond my wildest dreams and was able to put an incredible global platform together, you know, I now have had the opportunity in the last four years to work with my family and create some new innovative businesses that we are cofounders of. Greg, I've read that you consider yourself an instinct driven leader, right? That you actually prefer to follow your instincts rather than allowing data to drive. Your decision making there are people who are the reverse. They focus on data and data is what drives their decision making. Tell me a little bit about why you think instinct is it really is sort of the way to make decisions. I like to think that I'm an instant led, but data supported leader. And data obviously is important in any decision you're making. But I think that leaders do have instincts. And those instincts are based on years of experience and being in the business and the drive those instincts. But at the same time, I think that I just like to use data to either validate or invalidate and my instincts. I will say probably earlier, I probably didn't value the data as much as I did in my later years. Frankly, because I was so much more data that became available. When you think about your role as CEO, now that you're sort of you have a chance to kind of reflect on it. And look at it from the balcony. And evaluate other CEOs. I know you serve on boards and you have served on boards. What do you think the role of a CEO is? What do you think the role of a CEO ultimately needs to be? Yeah, I think they need to be someone that the stakeholders of the company respect and have confidence in the trajectory and the position and the direction that they want to take a company. And I think you have to be able to see around corners and see over horizons and I think you're really the key strategist of the company. And to be that you need great people that are helping you determine and decide what that should be, but you also need the confidence of all stakeholders, especially your employees to come along with you on that journey. Some of the leaders I've interviewed have described leadership as being the ultimate cheerleader that actually your job is to set a an overall vision, but really to allow others to execute and implement it, but to do that, you have to really inspire people by cheering them on. Does that resonate with you? Yeah, it does. I remember my oldest daughter one time asking me what my job was and I said, you know, you know, I'm the chief communicator because 95% of what I do is communicate. And what I mean by that means once you set a course and once you're keep people decide on the direction of the company, then you really become a salesman, so to speak, to try to help people understand and get on board and support that. Yeah, you have to shop from the mountaintops. You have to help people understand. You have to listen, you have to shift direction sometimes based on that, but you really have to become the chief communicator. Do you think you were born leader or do you think you learned how to become a leader? Good question. My mother used to say all the time that hey Greg could be president of the United States if he wanted to be someday. So she must have seen something. I will say this. I think I worked hard at everything I did, even as a kid. And whether it was working hard with my dad in the campground at a local farmer out in the field, or even with my studies. And so, I mean, I'd come home every night. If I needed to spend a couple hours doing my homework, that was the first thing I did, and then I went out and played ball. So I think I probably earned a degree of respect. As a kid, but I wouldn't say I was the type that was carrying the torch and everybody was following because of who I was. But if I look back, I think I earned

"And I think without Diana taurasi, and we don't know about Skyler digging Smith, obviously without a player like Brittany griner and Tina Charles now, Seattle. There's just been so many things that have factored into questionable results for postseason play. And kudos to them for making it in. I mean, no one gave them even credit for making it into the playoffs. So kudos to them to get in on that 8 C but it's going to be quite a battle to beat a team like Las Vegas in Las Vegas. I think they may be able to sneak out of the game, maybe. I don't know. Actually, I don't think they can. Okay, I was going to say how so. And no, no. No, I get chicken. No, I'm not going to count them out either. Let's give them, let's give them a possibility of a split. And you know, like just from what I said because of the fire and energy that they play with, the no quit attitude that they play with. And scholar digging Smith, if she's playing, that could be a difference maker too. So, I mean, a major difference maker. I mean, she's top 5 in the league in scoring. Let's not forget. Probably. First team. And leads the league and free throw attempts. I mean, she is an attacker, right? She's going to get you. So I think they need, they need Skylar. Digging Smith. They got to have her. They got to have her, you know, to battle against this team on the road and come out with some success. And they're going to fight. So this is not a shady comment for just looking at it the way we're looking at it. And I mean, yeah, I think a lot of people may agree with this. Yeah, I think most people agree with us. I could see it getting closer. I can see getting a little closer. Just say in certain sub games, but so we're above going to Vegas in a sweep, which means I have Vegas in Seattle in my second round, which is an unbelievable series. And you have Vegas and Washington in the second round, which is going to be an unbelievable series. Well, while Washington swept Vegas this season. I know it's awesome. So, I mean, if they advance, I mean, I digress. We got to cross that bridge. We get them. I'm so excited. I love having the series back. I love having three games here. This is awesome. This is how the playoffs are supposed to be. Like we're looking at it and we're saying, okay, we're the little micro adjustments going to be. Where are the little pressure points in the series going to be rather than, hey, what's going to happen on this one game? So I'm pumped for it. Okay, now we gotta go to the other side of the bracket though. And I'll let you pick. This is a dealer's choice here. We got Chicago versus New York, and we have Connecticut versus Dallas, so where do you want to go first? Let's go with Chicago. Let's go Chicago, New York. Chicago, New York, so the game times for this one on Wednesday at 8 p.m. on ESPN2, Saturday at noon on ESPN, Chicago has won the series three to one in the season now, New York, a little bit up and down in a week, but they've looked good and their numbers say they've been pretty good. And it's really they've gotten healthier, menage back, Natasha Howard. She did injure her ankle, so we're trying to see about her availability. Hopefully she's available, hopefully she's a 100%. If she is, then I think New York has all the talent in the world. And at times, they haven't put together, but they have gotten better throughout the season, I think. Yeah, I agree. I agree. Oh, what'd you say? I'm sorry. I'm just gonna say Chicago, on the other hand, has been winning very, very close games to margins have been thin, I'm trying to lay the base work for some talked with upset. Am I just reaching at straws here? No, I don't think so. I mean, you have a team in Chicago who came in last season as a 6th seed and won the whole thing. So, I mean, you can't count that out for New York, being a 7 seed, and doing that same thing. But at the same time, because Chicago won it last year, they know how to get that job done together, right? And now they have MMA cement, who also won a championship in 2019. So with Washington. So she knows also how to get the job done in postseason. So there's a lot to be said for experience in those environments and in that space. So for me, I am thinking Chicago is going to get this series. And it's not going to be easy. I will say. It's not going to be easy because of how Gritty New York has been playing the game. But I just think that Chicago, I mean, even if their momentum hasn't been up to par in the last week, they dropped a couple of games that they shouldn't have, I think. And the way that they've lost those games shouldn't have lost those games. But they did. And I think that'll make them more hungry. Sometimes you need to lose to win, you know? And not go in so comfortable that you get hit the back of the neck and not ready for really high level competition. So I think in the playoffs, when you have won it before, you can tap into what got you there and do it again. So New York, they have nothing to lose here. And sometimes it's easy to play free when you have nothing to lose. We're out here. We're just going to ball out. We're just going to play. And just go for it. So that's dangerous too, because again, it's like Phoenix. It's like, it's not about X's and osis about, you know, in between your two ears and get the job done that way and fight for what you want. And they want to advance. No, and I don't think, I don't know, New York has a chance, I think, and in the comments, I think we have people every time and say, oh, they can win a game. I think they have a chance to win the series. I mean, it is only three games. Yeah, love the series having back, but it's only three games. So you only have to win twice. You don't have to have two bad shooting games. And like I mentioned, Chicago, those really thin margins this year. They have one of the lowest average margins in games, whether they win or lose. I think it's 7.8 points. That was from Curtis over across the timeline. I think on one hand, it shows that this team can be beat. On the other hand, it shows exactly what we're saying. They're champions. They know how to win at the end of the game. They know what exactly what they need to do. They understand how to manipulate the end of the game to get the shots that they want. Right. And their team is stacked. I mean, this team is just awesome. Bandish quickly copper meets him and Parker. I mean, come on, that's three finals and finals MVPs. That's one player who should have at least an MVP or a Finals MVP according to Anderson. And Alec, I was one of the best shooters in league history. So, you know, I think, you know, I think there are a little too talented maybe to lose a game, but I also think if Sabrina can get loose, I think the matchups for Sabrina, whoever is guarding her, whether it's copper, whether that's Rebecca Gardner, who has been a revelation.

James Hahn Blasts New PGA Tour Schedule

"James Hahn on Twitter are James James, I just follow James like a week ago. We'll disclosure. I love James Hahn on Twitter. He tweeted today. He tweeted today. Take a look at the new PGA Tour schedule and you'll understand why players are upset. Vegas to Japan. To South Carolina to Bermuda to Mexico. He says, for the viewers, it's a flick of a remote. For us, it's 20 hour travel days and tens of thousands of dollars in expenses. That tweet already has 1400 likes in 25, 30 minutes, and then he follows it up by saying, to himself, we should be playing in major cities, places where they have an NFL football team, not Bermuda and Puerto Rico. Us little guys have feelings too. All right? He has caught a ton of shit for these tweets, but he's right. But he is right. Listen to that. Listen to that, that 6 week, that's what 5 weeks Vegas to Japan to South Carolina to Bermuda to Mexico. Vegas to Japan? Yeah, so to South Carolina. So they're going to be the little guys are going to want to play Vegas because it's really in the season because it's a wraparound. So they want to get off to a decent start. If they get into Japan, they're 100% going because they're pretty sure it doesn't have a cut. There's no way they're going to have an event in Japan with no cuts. So 1000% they're going. And then I guess I guess presumably. You take that off, I would guess. Where are they playing? I didn't even see where they're playing. But they're playing somewhere. Like the golf course. It doesn't matter. The only set is ridiculous, though. But I'm like, that's got to be a new event, 'cause the only South Carolina I know is Hilton head that they play, but I think it's chattahoochee or chat, chat to Jesse or, oh yeah. That's something like that over there. It's really cool. But yeah, that's not an easy travel. Well, you can't even do that. Your host. You're totally host if you try that. I don't know what I mean. This is where the play. Basically what he's saying for the people in the comments yelling at clouds is like the big guys, they're probably getting their own way paid to all that shit. The Japanese event, the big guys are probably getting older stuff paid for. I would guess all of it. Maybe they can pay appearance feed money over there. I don't really know. But the little guys have to play all those and what he's saying is it's going to cost him 30, not 30, but probably 20 grand to do all those. Ish,

"You're just sharing a volcano of information as you normally do. But I go around the country and people, you know, like me, I guess, you know, they're hopeful because they want to see America saved. They want to see this back on track as an actually free country where we the people get to decide. But it's hard for some people not to be cynical or at least a little bit depressed about whether we're going to get through this because if you watched 2000 mules, if you've been tracking all this stuff, you've been doing, you think, when are we going to kind of get to the bottom of it? When is something going to be done? What is your sense of what is possible for us to do with this kind of stuff? Well, I'll tell you where we're at if we don't get rid of all the machines. It's over forever. We're just, it's done. It's done. We never get your country back because like other countries where they've had machines once the bad people get in power. And with these machines and electronics, they're never going to vote them out. Therefore, it's you're stuck. Like your Venezuela is your Australia as your Canada. It's over. Well, now here we have great things, so because there's a couple of things. One is the sheriffs and the judges. Let's just combine them too. You brought up 2000 meals. I was just in Las Vegas and we had a sheriff's association meeting with all the sheriffs and we got the word out to all the show. What they can do. A lot of the things when we have our summit on August 20th and 21st is educating the whole world in the United States and educator, what can be done and what we are doing. The sheriffs have so much power in their counties. They can prosecute and they go, well, like the Racine county sheriff in Wisconsin. He proud screw went after them, but once again, the judges shut it down. And this is, this was over a year ago.

What Drives People to Commit Crimes?

"Ask ourselves the question, what drives people to commit crimes? Is it the fact that there are police so that there's laws protecting against looting or is it something about the human nature and our maybe we have to do something better with education or family formation or having fathers? They don't want to talk about any of that. Instead, they believe in mass aggressive abrupt societal revolution. And what's amazing is that the people in the highest positions of power believe in these pathological ideas. And then they're using force to be able to implement them. But we saw yesterday and as the results have come out, a shocking repudiation of this. The people of San Francisco don't want to live under some sort of Berkeley ideology. They don't care if there's books written by some sort of smart guy, and I put that in air quotes that tells them that the police are a tyrannical oppressive colonialist institution. They want the homeless person to stop defecating on their porch. They want to be able to walk down to fishermen fishermen's wharf and be proud of their city again. They don't want to become the laughing stock of America and they know it. Property values, I don't know what what's happened in San Francisco. I think they might have gone down slightly, but hard to believe all the dollar bills out there. They've collapsed, but they certainly aren't keeping up with other areas, such as Phoenix or Vegas, I know at least even with liberals that I know and they go to San Francisco. They know it's become a complete and total mockery of what it used to be.

Terry Schilling on Defeating a Gender-Bending Republican

"Terry Schilling. I spent a whole week with Terry in Las Vegas, but we were not doing what you might think we would be doing in Las Vegas, right, Terry. We were reading old books and talking about philosophy. It was with the great Claremont institute. It was in Vegas, I guess, because it was the only place they could find on the West Coast that would be open and actually has the hotel capacity, but Terry Schilling runs a phenomenal organization that everyone needs to get behind, and they do such a great job. And American principles project and they also have a pack and Terry, you have a great article out defeating this gender bending Republican will help protect American women nationwide, walk us through it. Well, Charlie, for the last several years, we've seen the Republican Party completely acquiesce to the LGBT movement. They started with getting Republicans to support the equality act, which just for your viewers and listeners. It would put sexual orientation into gender and gender identity into civil rights law. It's a total nightmare. Men and girls showers, men and women sports, men and women's prisons. It's a total nightmare. Well, along the way, the Republicans who are soft on this stuff came up with a quote unquote compromise bill. And it's called the fairness for all acts. And they say that they have religious freedom protections in it. So what we wanted to do this year is make politicians Republicans pay a price for supporting this law. And Nancy mace is one of the last Republicans on this bill. Charlie, we've actually, this bill is so extreme that we've actually gotten more moderate members off of this bill. Good. Claudia tenney is off of it. There are several others I'm just blanking on them right now. But we've gotten 5 members of Congress off of this bill, including at least stefanik. That's the highest profile Republicans gotten on off of it. But Nancy mace is still on him. In this bill would put men and women's prisons, men and women's sports, it would put men and women's locker rooms. The whole shebang. And we

Cancelled Flights Are One Symptom of a Broader US Incompetence

"This past weekend on Friday, I was in Chicago to give a talk at the will county GOP. And then Saturday, I show up at the airport. This is the O'Hare airport and 5 in the morning to board my flight to Portland. I was going to speak there at the freedom rally in Portland, but right as I was getting ready to check in, my flights canceled due to quote a crew disruption. And then I thought, no big deal. I'm in Chicago, one of the biggest airports in the world. I'll be able to get to portal and they'll be four or 5 other flight options. Turns out, nothing. It was only one other option on an American Airlines flight completely full. So the bottom line of it is I could not get to Portland. Now Debbie came up with a kind of a genius idea I flew home and in fact she arranged for me to give the talk from this exact spot this same studio here in Texas. And the event went off actually just fine. I could see the audience. I mean, technology is kind of amazing. It was essentially my podcast, but delivered to a private audience in Portland, 800 people. But you were commenting about the fact that this is symptomatic of kind of a broader collapse of competence that we're seeing not just in the airline industry, but in our economy. Yeah, I mean, it really is because we're not seeing obviously COVID has gone down. It's still exists, but. The airlines are acting as though COVID is still very much a factor in what they do. So all the excuses they give, oh, the crew didn't show up. Oh, there's this, oh, there's that. And not to mention, they don't have that many flights going anywhere. Anyway. Anywhere, really. "We're now in the midst of a national gun control debate. I didn't ask for it. You didn't ask for it? We're in the middle of it. The Texas school shooter was known to police and bullied by classmates. Every time there is one of these shootings, the only exception would be the Vegas shooting which we still do not know much about, one of the most bizarre and inexplicable events in history. That is the outlier with that one being the outlier, every one of these tragic events, there are people that say, oh yeah, he was said this or he did this, or for example, the individual that was shooting that committed the marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting in Parkland, Florida, would walk through the quad of margaery stolen Douglas school, pantomime shooting people with his hands as guns. As soon as there were gunshots at marjory Stoneman Douglas school in Parkland, Florida, people said, oh, it must be, and we don't say his name on the program. They knew immediately. There are almost always warning signs before these tragic and evil acts happen, which again, if you're hearing this, and if your son or your daughter says, oh yeah, you know, this person at school is talking really weird. Intervention is necessary,

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler voluntarily enters rehab after relapse

"'cause even when I dream of Steven Tyler his band Aerosmith and their fans will all have to miss their June in July residency dates in Las Vegas the absence will give Tyler a chance to head back to rehab the band's Instagram account notes that Tyler has worked on his sobriety for many years but has had a relapse The statement says it was the pain meds that he was prescribed after recent foot surgery that led to the relapse the band notes that Tyler went into rehab on his own rather than requiring an intervention and in their post Aerosmith says they hoped to resume performing again in September

"Well and as i say i mean it seemed like there was a little bit of that nickel and diming going on pre pandemic and then following the The lockdowns and the shutdowns and the reopening that seemed to go away and everybody seemed pretty happy about that and it seemed to be the direction things were going and now i'm not so much. It seemed like they were going to go that route and it was really really optimistic but one start. People started coming back then. He started seeing at the bottom of your bill. Eight cova surcharge franchise fees. All these different things are being attacked the bottom of bills there was no housekeeping in the hotels anymore. You'd have to go downstairs if you wanna towels. It's like all these ridiculous things that they were taking away from people and adding onto instead of saying. Hey let's throw everything at you give you a reason to come back. They didn't do that. i got into one hell of an argument over a gentleman who handles a lot of chef driven functions here in town. He represents a lot of very interesting. chef owned restaurants And i posted on my facebook page about my objection to these. These kovin fees that were that were tacking on and he said you have no idea what restaurants are going through. I said as a. I don't need to know that the businesses that i'm patronizing are suffering if you have to raise prices. I don't wanna see them itemized at the bottom of that bill. I wanna know that this is the price of my entree. This is the price of my drink. This is the tax. And i will choose the gratuity. That's all i need to see. I don't want you to give me a sad story about how your restaurant is suffering while paying. My bill. absorb that into your prices. That's all you need to do. I always maintained that with all of those different kinds of add on fees whether it's as you say the concession franchise or a service fee or kovic fee or resort fees or any of that kind of stuff. Just throw it into the bill. I mean i get it with restaurants and small businesses and large businesses over the last eighteen months. Everybody has suffered. But i feel like you will piss people off less. If you just did a across the board two percent or three percent price hike on your menu items as opposed to itemizing that two or three percent on the bottom of the bill they would absolutely would not notice it. I mean because if a salad dick you got the last time was thirteen. Ninety nine and this time it's fifteen ninety nine. That was six months ago. Lot of water's gone under the bridge unified to be back in. Oh hey was that that recall two dollars. No you're not gonna notice that it seems so simple seem so obvious in yet that's lost in the city very much lost and there are people that get paid to sit around and decide these things. I think they're good idea is oh sure. The customers won't care if we raise the resort v by another ten dollars. We won't we won't give them anything for it but we're just gonna let them know that effective such and such. They're going to be paying forty five dollars on top of their forty-five room rate. Well and i sometimes wonder too with with the big corporations running things. You're just a number. You're just a customer. You're not mr novak. Mr walker for the most part the average person is just customer one seven five two seven two and the way they look at it is well. If this person doesn't come back somebody else will come in to fill their spot if you treat your customers as stupid people. You're more than likely gonna lose them. That's where i come in hopefully to warn people to avoid places like that where you're going to be treated like an idiot and send you a directions of places that are gonna value you as a customer as a guest going to welcome you and give you more than you expected. There are still places here in town that care about you coming to visit us. They wanna go above and beyond to make your experience special. There are places like that. I'm going to stand behind and say come on over here. Come on over here. We don't we don't wanna be ripped off and we don't wanna be ripping people off either my my my job here in town relies on tourism industry. There's a magician here in town. His name is david drake he. He was a big fan of my column. And when i was looking for a slogan he threw this one that me that stuck. He said probably biased. Definitely honest. i put on my business cards. I i read a one of those mobile billboards. When i first lunch and it said it right there on it you can lean towards the places that you prefer in your personal attachment to but be honest with people and they'll be happy you don't have to live to see them sam. "Up next from episode number sixty two howard hughes aviator innovator in las vegas legend from the mob museum. Here's geoff schumacher. In nineteen sixty five hughes had sold all his shares in trans world airlines twa and the amount of his shares the value of shares was five hundred and forty six million dollars shoe. Which is a lot of money today but imagine how much money was nineteen sixty five. Wow and he was was described at the time as the largest single check that had been written to an individual. But of course when you have five hundred forty six million dollars all of a sudden who wants a big chunk of that the either internal revenue service so users looking for a way to avoid that huge penalty huge tax penalty and he came up with the idea that he would move to. Las vegas moved to nevada in. He would invest that money into land and other properties. That's the way to avoid to avoid it to the government so hewson on thanksgiving of nineteen sixty six. He came to las vegas by train orbit or not. The great aviator insisted on coming to las vegas on a train and He came in the middle of the night. And the train stopped a little ways outside of las vegas where a van was waiting and hughes was transferred from the train to the van and then he was driven. This is all in secret. People didn't know he was coming and he's arrived at the desert inn hotel on the burgeoning. Las vegas strip and moved up into the ninth floor. Which was the the penthouse floor of the desert in. he's he. He was in one room and his aides personal. Aides were Took up the rest of the arrest of the knights four and some of the stories surrounding howard hughes are legendary enough but The ones specifically involving las vegas are are just crazy one of the more prevalent ones. I guess you could say is is the story of him taking over the desert in them wanting him to leave and him basically saying No that's right. You know he so he moves into the The suite of the desert and he takes up the entire house floor. You know the hotels in las vegas are a lot bigger now than they were. Then so nine stories. Was you know as big as you were gonna get but you know. Those rooms were valuable. They were very valuable to the desert in. Because that's where there high rollers would stay. When they came to gamble but cues was not a high roller. He didn't gamble at all. You never left the room And his aides were they were. They weren't gambling much either. They were guys who were very loyal to hughes and they were very focused on their jobs. They weren't spending a lot of money in the hotel casino and so modell. It's the the mob boss who ran the desert end. He wanted us out in ever intend to. The eu's gonna live there. And so as the end of december as approaching. So the memory came to las vegas in on thanksgiving of sixty six late november by mid december. Modena's concerned that these high rollers. Who are going to be coming in for new year's which is always a big deal here He wants rooms for them. To wants us out and use doesn't wanna leave hughes's become very comfortable at the desert inn. There had been discussions with him and his right hand man by mayhew about moving into a house in las vegas But i don't think he was very serious about that by this time of his life. He was pretty well accustomed to living in hotels so at guests the reaches a point in december where modell is about ready to send the sheriff fan to physically affect our hughes from the guy and Bob mayhew That's the right hand. Man of hughes he makes a call a pivotal call to try to avoid this conflict. He calls jimmy hoffa. Jimmy hoffa the teamsters union boss right and ask him to intercede and allow us into talk down modell from kicking us out. So jimmy off does that. He makes that call. Modell relents these gonna let you stay. What is right around this time. That hughes Principle the idea while kick me out here. Why don't i just by the place. And then i can say go hughes initiative through mayhew me through mayhew hughes initiates Proceedings to purchase the desert and by march of nineteen sixty seven. It was his g. that that's amazing. I mean imagine. I can't imagine having that much money. You know what. I don't wanna leave so screw it. I'm just gonna buy this place and that's exactly what happened. He stayed there in that sweet the rest of the time. He was in las vegas about four years total and so of course the desert end didn't do that well while he owned it in part because he had occupied all the good rooms but right he didn't own it and he wants he bought the desert in. He's when he kim las vegas. He had no intention of buying casinos a but when once he bought the desert in it he decided that these were toys that he would really like to assemble. So he instructed by may who to buy more casinos and they in a buying the the sands and the frontier and the silver slipper and the castaways and the landmark the also taught heralds club up in reno. Now there's a story that i've heard about him the reason behind his purchase of the silver slipper. The story that i had read was that he bought it because he didn't like where the sign was that. The blinking light of the sign kept him awake. Was that true. So that i don't believe is true. Then story has been a story has traveled far and wide though so the silver slipper had a very interesting sign it was slipper literally it was assigned the shape of a slipper and it rotated and there were lights on it and illinois a lotta people But there's no evidence that it annoyed howard hughes and one of the reasons for that was that he all his windows of his sweet. Were all a covered. It recovered a blacked out the room. Gotcha so old the likelihood that a light was bothering him is unlikely out. What did in fact happen is mayhew was looking for hotels to buy and the silver slipper was available. That's that's kind of how that works the you know. Not every hotel on the strip was available for use to buy.

"Still lean <Speech_Music_Male> mean <Speech_Music_Male> and in his vocal Prime. <Speech_Music_Male> And it <Speech_Music_Male> shows <Speech_Music_Male> in these performances. I'm <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> not a massive <Speech_Male> Elvis Presley <Speech_Male> fanatic like <Speech_Male> some people I know but <Speech_Male> I gotta say I <Speech_Male> absolutely loved <Speech_Male> listening <Speech_Male> to some of these performance. <Speech_Male> I could picture <Speech_Male> myself sitting <Speech_Male> in the showroom <Speech_Male> at the international <Speech_Male> taking it all <Speech_Male> in seeing <Speech_Male> Elvis on <Speech_Male> stage. I'd <Speech_Male> venture to Guess that <Speech_Male> basically <Speech_Male> nobody listening <Speech_Male> to this podcast has <Speech_Male> ever <Speech_Male> had the chance to actually <Speech_Male> see Elvis <Speech_Male> perform live <Speech_Male> in Vegas, which <Speech_Male> means this is <Speech_Male> about as <Speech_Music_Male> close as you're going to <Speech_Male> get to the real thing. You <Speech_Male> need <Speech_Music_Male> to check <Speech_Male> this set <Speech_Male> up Auto out Elvis <Speech_Male> live <Speech_Male> 1969. <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> <SpeakerChange> <Music> <Music> All <Music> <Music> <Music> <Music> <Music> <Music> <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Music_Male> right, last but <Speech_Music_Male> certainly not <Speech_Music_Male> least. We <Speech_Music_Male> need to talk about <Speech_Music_Male> <Advertisement> the wrong pack <Speech_Music_Male> <Advertisement> live <Speech_Music_Male> at the <Speech_Music_Male> <Advertisement> Sands. I <Speech_Music_Male> <Advertisement> honestly <Speech_Music_Male> don't think it gets <Speech_Male> any more quintessentially <Speech_Male> Vegas <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> Than This <Speech_Music_Male> Album. It <Speech_Male> was recorded <Speech_Male> live in <Speech_Male> September 1963 <Speech_Male> in <Speech_Male> the Copa <Speech_Music_Male> room at <Speech_Music_Male> the Sands Hotel, which <Speech_Male> let's <Speech_Male> be honest as a legendary <Speech_Male> venue <Speech_Male> in and of itself. <Speech_Male> The core <Speech_Male> of the Rat Pack is <Speech_Male> here for this album. We've <Speech_Male> got seen <Speech_Male> Martin. We've got Sammy <Speech_Male> Davis Junior <Speech_Male> and of course <Speech_Male> the chairman <Speech_Male> of the board Frank <Speech_Male> Sinatra <Speech_Male> is on board for <Speech_Male> this one the <Speech_Male> album plays <Speech_Male> a little <Speech_Male> bit more like a <Speech_Male> comedy <Speech_Male> album then <Speech_Male> a serious <Speech_Male> live performance <Speech_Male> album, but <Speech_Male> to be honest <Speech_Male> that's <Speech_Male> half the charm of <Speech_Male> it. There's tons <Speech_Male> of ad-libbing on <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> this album. There's lots <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> of banter <Speech_Male> Bob. <Speech_Male> Queen Frank and <Speech_Male> Sammy and Dean <Speech_Music_Male> and <Speech_Male> and lots of <Speech_Male> involvement <Speech_Male> with the audience in <Speech_Male> this show. <Speech_Male> It's very very <Speech_Male> cool to listen <Speech_Male> to Dean Martin <Speech_Male> Sammy Davis jr. <Speech_Male> They are <Speech_Male> very obviously <Speech_Male> the funny guys <Speech_Male> on this album handling <Speech_Male> the comedy <Speech_Male> side of things. <Speech_Male> Well Frank <Speech_Male> Sinatra as <Speech_Male> expected <Speech_Male> blasts out a <Speech_Music_Male> serious <Speech_Music_Male> musical performance <Speech_Music_Male> wage. <Speech_Male> There is something I do need <Speech_Male> to touch on with this <Speech_Male> album something <Speech_Male> you need to keep in mind. <Speech_Male> If you're listening <Speech_Male> to it. The album <Speech_Male> was recorded <Speech_Male> in the <Speech_Music_Male> early 1960s. <Speech_Male> So <Speech_Male> some of the humor <Speech_Male> that pops <Speech_Male> up in this album <Speech_Male> would be <Speech_Male> considered <Speech_Male> Politically <Speech_Male> Incorrect <Speech_Music_Male> by today's <Speech_Music_Male> standards. <Speech_Music_Male> So <Speech_Male> as with <Speech_Male> other content <Speech_Male> from that particular <Speech_Male> month, <Speech_Male> As <Speech_Male> with other content <Speech_Male> from this <Speech_Male> particular day and age <Speech_Male> you really <Speech_Male> kind of need to keep that <Speech_Male> in mind when you're listening <Speech_Male> to it. I <Speech_Male> know when I listen to it, <Speech_Male> they were a couple of bits <Speech_Male> that popped up where I kind <Speech_Male> of went. Oh, geez, I <Speech_Male> don't think <Speech_Male> you can say <Speech_Music_Male> that you <Speech_Male> can't <Speech_Male> say that anymore <Speech_Male> 1963 <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> when this particular <Speech_Male> performance <Speech_Male> was recorded you <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> could it was <Speech_Male> commonplace again. <Speech_Male> I'm not saying that's right. <Speech_Male> It's just something <Speech_Male> that you need to kind of <Speech_Male> keep in mind when <Speech_Male> you're listening to <Speech_Music_Male> this album <Speech_Music_Male> song <Speech_Male> wise <Speech_Male> music-wise took <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> everything you'd expect from <Speech_Male> these performances <Speech_Male> is here Frank <Speech_Male> does <Speech_Male> an amazing version <Speech_Male> of <Speech_Male> the song Drink <Speech_Male> to Me Only With <Speech_Male> Thine Eyes he <Speech_Male> throws in a few funny bits. <Speech_Male> He changes <Speech_Male> the title of <Speech_Male> the song. I love <Speech_Male> Paris too. I love <Speech_Male> Vegas does <Speech_Male> some of his own lyrics in <Speech_Male> there. It's a blast <Speech_Male> Sammy <Speech_Male> Davis jr. <Speech_Male> Steps in does <Speech_Male> some amazing impersonations <Speech_Male> and <Speech_Male> and <Speech_Male> performs the song. <Speech_Male> Lady is a tramp, <Speech_Music_Male> which is <Speech_Male> amazing. <Speech_Male> And of course Frank Sinatra <Speech_Male> comes in hits <Speech_Male> everyone with his Classics. <Speech_Male> I only have eyes <Speech_Male> for you <Speech_Male> and the required <Speech_Male> Vegas classic <Speech_Male> luck <Speech_Music_Male>

"The first live Vegas album that I want to share with you here is Tom Jones live in Las Vegas. Now I myself have actually been lucky enough to get to see Tom Jones in concert. I'm not in Las Vegas, but back in I would say 2001-2002. He was doing a tour across Canada and one of the shows was at the center of the Arts in Regina Saskatchewan Canada. I was working for a radio station in Regina at that time and we happen to have some free tickets for the staff which my wife and I took advantage of fact, we went not really knowing what to expect and based on what we sort of knew about Tom Jones at the time. We kind of almost went as a bit of a joke not realizing that in the end. It would probably be one of our favorite concert experiences of all time. The show was incredible. Tom Jones was Is an absolutely amazing performer and he came out there and when I say, you know, most most performers will give a hundred and 10% Tom Jones gave like a hundred and 40% when he was off stage. It was amazing. Tom Jones sang his balls off. He had a full percussion section. He had a full horn section. He had a full Rhythm Section. It was an absolutely amazing. Now part of that enjoyment probably came from the fact that we were sitting in the second row, which was just amazing to be that close to see a legend like Tom Jones performing that being said sitting in the second row at a Tom Jones Show does come with its own level of quote-unquote danger. One of the running jokes with Jones is that throughout his career women would throw their underwear on stage sitting in the second row, you're going to get a few pairs of panties to the back of the head and that did happen over the course. Show we just kind of laughed it off. Now that being said Tom Jones live in Vegas. This album was recorded in the showroom at the Flamingo back in the summer of nineteen sixty nine. The album came out in November of 1969 and Tom Jones his popularity was at a bit of a peek at this point. He was doing a TV show was a variety show called This is Tom Jones. This album is quintessential Tom Jones. There is an absolutely amazing energy and musicianship on this the same thing is incredible Tom Jones belting out a ton of great music. And of course all the hits are here including the likes of Delilah and it's not unusual and love me tonight place. There's a ton of great covers on this album some stuff that you might not actually expect. He does the classic Irish him Danny boy. He also covers a couple of Beatles tracks. He does. Yep. Saturday and Hey Jude putting his own little fun Tom Jones spin on it. He even wraps up the show with a Medley featuring a Twist and Shout and land of a thousand dances. It's very very cool stuff something I learned on this album and as a guy who's worked in classic rock radio and is a huge music geek. I am completely embarrassed to admit that I didn't know this before but the song Hard to Handle by The Black Crowes that was not a Black Crowes original and the way I found that out from this album. Tom Jones does his own performance of the song Hard to Handle which apparently was originally an Otis Redding song recorded in nineteen sixty-eight voir a B-side to one of his hits. So Tom Jones took that song recorded it here performed at live in 1969. Put his own little spin on it absolutely amazing job. This album his version just blew me away. Now. This album actually was big for Tom Jones's career as well. It went all the way to number two in the UK charts and number three thousand on the US charts and to this day remains his highest-charting album in the u s c I bet you didn't think you were going to learn something listening to this podcast the only down side that I found to this album. It doesn't flow as nicely as some live albums do when you listen to a live album. You kind of almost want that that concert experience that just carries you through all the way from top to bottom. I am not sure if they cut some stuff out due to time or or how that worked because of course back when this came out and in the late sixties at that point albums could only really be 45 minutes long. That was basically the maximum for a total album. So with Thursday, Album split up, I guess maybe they had to do some cuts for time which which cause some issues and some problems with flow a fun little thing as well that you'll find out on this album the last track on side one of the album titled. I'll Never Fall in Love. Again was actually a studio track that they added crowd noise too and dropped on this album kind of jobs are anyways, it's a great.

"Your podcast. All right, that's enough of that on to the show off currently as a Canadian. I'm still not really able to travel to Las Vegas borders are technically closed and if I did manage to sneak my way down I'd have to quarantine for two weeks upon my return to the great white North not exactly an ideal situation. One of the things I'm missing the most about going to Las Vegas off the ability to check out shows and see world-class entertainment. But just because I can't go to Vegas doesn't mean I can't enjoy a little piece of Vegas right here at home and one of the ways to do that is by sitting down and either popping on my headphones or cranking up the speakers and pressing play on one of the many live albums that have been recorded in log. Vegas but if you want to have some real fun, I suggest taking a trip back to the Glory Days of Vegas and checking out the recordings of some the classic artists who have graced the stages of the strep and contributed to musical history. So for this episode of the podcast, I thought I'd share some of my favorite live Vegas albums and hopefully by the time I'm done they'll be yours as well. "So this this character, Joe Augusta who was the entertainment director at the Tropicana with connections to the Kansas City mob family was. You know if you ask Harry read all bluster and and just claiming that to. To look good in the eyes of his bosses, was it Harry, Reid that they tried to bribe. Am I remembering that story correctly or is that a different a different episode? That's also him? Yeah. Yeah. He was on the Nevada Gaming Commission for about four years and like their enough stories in that four years that you'd think it was two decades Completely different set of guys that we're trying to bribe him but people wanted to get a gaming device approved by the Nevada Gaming Commission and the gaming control. Board to put into a casino, and it was like one of those. Games that Jeff Silver. He's given control board described it to me as like chucky cheese coin pusher where it looks like a bunch of coins, but it's just you know. You're not GONNA win anything. Probably doesn't belong in a casino they wanted to get it passed. So they offered him. Believe it was twelve thousand dollars. In Harry Reid turned around and went to the FBI and participated in an FBI sting operation. where he you know the FBI was on the other side of the wall and he was playing it up and actually got them to hand over the cash, and then the FBI came in and arrested the guys. Now, if I remember that story correctly I, I, I think I laughed pretty hard at that one was that the one where they were in the adjoining room and somebody had locked the door between the two rooms. Yes Harry Reid actually. He realized the FBI was trying to come into the arrest, but the door was locked. So he had to find a way to to casually saunter over and unlocked the door and let them come in. He kept dropping the kept dropping the code word he. That and they get nothing happening. It just wasn't as a signal to send the FBI and. They weren't coming in and then after they finally came in, there's this moment where. He went and tried to rig. Nagai's Knack. Said you son of a bitch tried to bribe me and like if you've ever heard Harry Reid talk just as quiet, very thoughtful guy, answer the picture him in that moment being mad enough to go and try to strangle a guy and scream at him i. It's Absolutely absolutely amazing. Again, just one of a million stories in this podcast that that are just. So incredible Frank Colada I gotTA talk when I. When I started listening to the podcast and I I mean, frank comes out right in the very first part very first episode of the podcast and I thought Oh my God. He actually is your tooling around with Frank Kaleida. First of all, I'm dropping a name that maybe some of my listeners might not be completely familiar with. So fill us in on exactly who Frank Kuwata is frank. Colada is a former associate of the Chicago outfit. Out of Chicago and sort of how the mob is structured is there are made guys is kind of the the term made famous in movies and TV shows, and those guys who have pledged an oath to the mob and. Committed a murder on behalf of the mob usually is how you prove yourself to the mob But then beyond that is this huge network of. Tipsters and associates in people that commit crimes on behalf sort of in conjunction with the mob and frank is one of those guys was an associate of the Chicago outfit In the Mid Twentieth Century, and his a burglar is a specialty in Chicago because he was. Doing these burglaries on mobbed few would give a cut back to the Chicago outfit's and yet a lot of friends in the Chicago outfit's one of them being Tony. SPLO- Tro, pretty famous guy who ended up being the MOMS reputed enforcer in Las Vegas, and that's how we ended up coming out to Las Vegas working with the mom out here. And, and so the experience of spending time with a guy like frank. Colada. I mean I know he offers tours or he did offer tours for a long time where you could connect with him and he would take you around the city and and it all wrapped up with with pizza back at one of his pizza joints But I mean for yourself. This is totally different experience of of getting in a car with this guy and I mean he he took you around Vegas and showed you some pretty. Incredible things. Yeah. And I'll give a spoiler here. So if anyone is about to go listen to the podcast and you don't want US lawyer, skip ahead a minute herself but. He's killed people. I got into a car with him. Knowing that he was a murderer, which is something I never done before. And one of the places that he took me to was. This residential home or this homeless residential neighborhood in Las Vegas where he had committed a murder and he told me how it happened while we were sitting outside of the home. and. That was surreal to say the least. Wow. And I mean some of the other spots he took you to places. He showed you where various burglaries had been committed. Various crimes have been committed and homes and residences belonging to other mob related figures. It's pretty incredible. Yeah. Yeah. It's and it was a weird way for me to being pretty new to. Las Vegas. To learn about the geography of the city because the city that transforms itself every five years seemingly and so you don't see a lot of this history in the buildings or anything like that, and so him driving me around a like added burglaries over there or they're used on a pizza joint and I don't think this made it into the podcast, but it was a pizza joint called the upper crust. Crust and he showed it to me and it. Now, it's a cricket wireless He took me to the spot where a lefty Rosenthal's car blew up and that was like a block from where I do my grocery shopping and I had no idea. So it was crazy to me to to you know learn about this history of Las. Vegas that you can't see anymore just going around on your own. And I mean overall. What was what was the experience? Like of that, I mean I I can't imagine. The as you say, the amount of history and what he's able to show you. But at the same time, you've got it in, you must have it in the back of your head at the same time that this guy. At one time was a was a bad dude. Yeah. I think in the moment, the podcast Romy was like I'm getting good tape like this is. Good stories and I am excited to see what we can do this. And I had obviously researched his story quite a bit before I ever met him. So it's not like any of the things he was telling me came as a surprise, I knew the facts of what he had done. I think sort of the the most surreal thing was hearing it in his own words and sort of I. Mean. These are stories. He's US most told before, and so he's used to telling them. So kind of weird for me where he talks about murder. Like you or I would talk about you know running an air enter taking out the trash Sort of in that space where you know he's just having a conversation with you, but your mind is just going crazy because you're like, oh my gosh, in a car with a murderer..

"Of? Vegas experience and I have to kind of explain what that feels like or looking for a strip, experience and kind of everything else for hotels I mean I'm I tend to prefer the strip At I mean almost all of them. I haven't seen it all of them, but but many of them and I'm a big fan of the area. I'm a big Fan of Caesar's palace. I've never actually stated the Bellagio. Though I've seen the rooms. the big fan of the cosmopolitan but my all time favorite is the the Delano the hotel in behind em. Mandalay Bay there. That's stayed there once on like ninety nine dollar rate, and not really knowing much about the hotel and just blew me away. It's such an awesome room. So. That's one of my favorites and. Favorites off strip as well. I really like the resort down the strip. That's a really cool kind of spot it's it's very much separate from the Strip and downtown. Obviously, so it's kind of a resort unto itself so for people that are looking for kind of a you know. They want kind of a quiet live. Spend all my time at the hotel experience I recommend that place a lot and then kind of commute to the Strip to do everything else. And then downtown a big fan of the D. I think that's my favorite hotel downtown. The is such a cool spot. I had a chance. Last fall we actually We went into town for a night's game, and it was to happen to be right around Halloween and room rates were insane, so we actually stayed with friends in Henderson who live like ten minutes away from the M and after the night's game, we actually on our way back stopped at the for wander around in a drink and a bite to eat. And what a cool spot! And as you say, I mean you're. You're far from the Strip like you're not even strip adjacent year a twenty minute drive from the Strip, but definitely a very very cool spot to to Oh Yeah. It's got a lot to offer lots of good restaurants great pool. And the gambling is pretty decent to. If you are into table games and and other things there's there's some pretty good gambling there, which you can't really say about a lot of other places, and obviously it's you know it's still quite new I wish they would kind of. just just kind of tweak their design. A little bit I. Find that every time I go there. It looks exactly like it did on opening day. I'd like to see them just kind of. Maybe I. Want to say renovate. It doesn't renovation, but just kind of tweaked the design. A little bit updated a little bit. I think really Spruce it up, but yeah. I'm a big fan of the 'em. And Sad, what about you for hotels? Well you know I've only been there twice. and the first time we had an unwritten invaded bally's room. which you mentioned say. Felt like when we got out of the elevator was nineteen seventy six. And and then we stayed at Ti, which was actually a really nice room The only thing I can say is having walked through so many of the hotels the first time I went and trying to get an idea of where I would want to stay. I would say for me the blogs yours is. Above and beyond anything else for me, just a the the feeling of it and then. There's places like the Venetian that just even the win. When you walk in they they just have such a luxurious feel to it. And if you're willing to spend the money, I think those places would be on the top of my list for sure, maybe like Fred, says the IRA the FIDORA Tuck the little bit behind there and it it. It just depends on if you're going by yourself then. I don't think it's really worth If you're going with the guys you know I. Don't think it's really worth spending the money on a nice hotel like that, whereas if you're going as a couple with your wife or your spouse, whatever then you're looking at something like the Vidar those nicer rooms where you'll have the value. The first time we were there was this friend and I so. We didn't care. We just needed to room bed and a shower and a toilet in often. That's all we needed so yeah I think I would like to keep myself centered in the middle of the Strip so that it's easier to navigate if you're gonNA, go south or north, or whatever. If you're going, go the radio. You're still really close and I think the Rio to be one of a High Melissa just because of the poker there. And still the proximity of everything else. That's what I would do I think. Let's talk about My probably my favorite Vegas. This is always the the highlight of my trip report episodes for maybe anyways dining experiences. We talked a little bit earlier. You guys, you're not food. Lovers What are some of your favorite dining experiences? You mentioned the Gordon Ramsay restaurants earlier. Did you do hell's kitchen? There our last trip went for lunch, and it was for me anyways, exactly how I wanted it to be and what my expectations were. Expectation is really high and it. It pretty much met everything the service, the quality of the food, the just the the buzzing there the experience of it. Everything was up to par The food I mean the food. itself was just just amazing. And you're you're paying a little bit more pinger premium for being there, but that's to be expected given that it's a branded place and from a Gordon Ramsay as well you're. You'RE GONNA expect to pay a little bit more for me. The plate up all the places I've been in Vegas that would definitely be the best experience that I had foodwise and Fred what about yourself dining experiences? You have any recommendations or or personal favorites for yourself as well. I definitely have some favorites I'm definitely not the food the in the group I mean. Other than to say that. If you put food in front of me, I will eat it. So I'm not hard to please. My wife however is lakes APPS. She's very much a Foodie, and and also like said a very good cook, so I tend to kind of you know, eat and watch the reaction and hear them comment about it t to judge myself, but Yeah I've been very lucky over the years to join Bob Salinger. The author of the Book and a few others on different dining experiences trying to review restaurants crafts is one that always comes up as one of my favorites. I really enjoyed that. we did SPAGO one year, which was really really cool. I enjoyed that spot as well. I probably would get something different. If I went, but that was a that was a great experience. to treat ourselves Shantelle and I. we stated the area on When was that a couple of years ago? I think six hundred eighteen and it was right after we went after the first time. And we deal. I got there had came with like a you know a hundred dollar dining credit, or just a resort credit, and so we We took that opportunity to go to The French place at the MGM there It's one of the restaurants. It's rated very high in the unofficial guide so I thought well. Let's go check it out. We'll have one hundred dollar head, start and It was while it was. It was very very good, but the quality and the you know. The presentation was so over my head that I couldn't really appreciated. I could. Be Showing. That's that'd be show on. Yeah, so there's. Show has the his main restaurant which is like black-tie, whatever and then there's like this. Kind of attached to the kitchen, is this very casual version of that with a very similar menu, and so we went to the cashable part It was excellent, but like I say it was kind of my head. The you know just like little flowers appearing on the side of your soup, and you don't really know what you're supposed to eat and what you're not supposed to ease and. This guy's got a very very good. In pretty one you're not supposed to which is supposed to use I'm eating with my hands and. So, you're supposed to eat that like okay, how much! Sir! That's Potpourri, that's. What are these chips? As Pope, racer think it's also. We M. On if you WANNA like on a scale like the bottom. Bottom dollar be the cheapest that we age for. Where's the dollar? Twenty five hotdogs at South Point. We've played poker which were amazing. and then up to the hell's kitchen for me, but another place that was like I mentioned before was Ellis Island. For for seventy nine till. So, Fred and I signed up for the we the whole deal. You sign up for this players card. Ya GotTA. Pay For you gotTA. Play ten bucks..

"And then I started found my legs and figured out where I wanted to go. Were you guys kind of the same route or did you really plan it all out and format it before you guys jumped in the water. I'd say we're probably the opposite. I've been thinking about this for five or six years constantly bugging my wife saying I do this I gotta start. There's how am I gonNa do it. Do you know how do I? Make sure I'm gonNA sound good. You know all of this stuff and so yeah. It was kind of a long time. Coming right finally said okay. We're stuck at home during this Kobe thing right now. I've been dying to start this podcast. Let's do it I'm going to call Sam. We'll get. We'll figure out the details. Let's just you know. Buck up and do it, so it's kind of the opposite. It's kind of a long dream in. It's finally coming true so on. I said to him I, said after we started planning. He gave me access to this sort of. An analog by a list of ideas and things, and when I first started read on my holy man like you been. It's Kinda like. You know and if you ever watch friends, but whenever Monica is going to get married, she brings out this wedding book. Thousand pages it. Has It all in detail down that every last bit. so when he showbiz like like. Okay so we got some sort of direction here so we'll go from there, and then after that that night as I was going to bed, I thought. What with Cova, happening like is this really a good time Vegas bike? WHO's GonNA TRAVEL THE VEGAS? And then sure enough next thing you know. Vegas Open and everything is reopening as maybe not quite as it was, but close enough and. So, yeah, that sets essentially how we got, we got going and that kind of leads into the next question I wanted to ask and the next thing I wanted to talk about was. Some of the challenges that you guys have faced launching a travel podcast during a time when people can't travel to a city, where as you say, although things are opening up it, it looks you never know whether or not the tides are GonNa turn, and things are going to roll back and things are GonNa shut down again. I mean. It's for me personally I. Know I've struggled hardcore with trying to find content and figure things out. How all of you guys managed to keep putting out content and putting things out and coming up with ideas, especially being a a brand new podcast. Yeah, well like I said, we were starting with a pretty long list you know this is stuff that I've been thinking about for years and so I've kind of been gathering ideas of what we could talk about. but yeah, it's it's hard i. mean you kind of have to kind of have to just? Hope that people care about the same things that you care about you know, the one thing we're looking forward to is to get some listener engagement to hear back from our listeners to. Send US questions and he just give trip reports. I know the Jaffe your last episode. There was an awesome trip report from a guy who happened to be going pretty recently, and it was I was just amazed at all the details he was able to give and kind of breakdown, his experience of going to Vegas during this very strange time So that's what we're hoping to get some day in the meantime. We're just GONNA keep talking about stuff that interests us and and hope that in interests other people as well. As the one thing that I find between Fred night to is that we? Haven't are able to carry a conversation. You know for? For Hours on end and So it's not so much like I find. We have like a good What's the word I'm looking for like a? report a synergy or like it's it's it's. It's him and I can talk to each other. No problem, so it's just a matter of finding the right topic and said we hit record, and at least that's how I am. Fred Fred has all the details and some of the more the question oriented side and more of the details, whereas all just let him ask the question then off, we go to talk talk about the topic at hand. and on my end is not a lot of preparation with the with the exception of like this, the upcoming golden is episode there. We're going to do I'm GonNa do a little bit more research on the team itself although I. Already have a good it so that you know at least we can provide a little bit more detailed information so that people listening. The Golden Knights is a good example. I mean before we even request were oppressed record tonight. We were chatting for twenty minutes about the Golden. Yeah, has it just kind of happens kind of you? Bring up something and he's get going, and and all of a sudden. That's an episode so I think the next time we record. We're going to talk about gold nights and their impact on the city and You know I think there's. There's some cool stuff there as well so sometimes. It just kind of happens. He's GonNa. Go with their top -solutely, very very cool so I do WanNa talk about I mean. We've kind of covered. What you guys of have gotten into and your trips, and and what you guys like to do I want to kind of get into the specifics and get I mean I part of part of the gig sharing ideas and and. And sharing thoughts, tips and tricks, so I did kind of want to get into some discussions with you guys and talk about some of your Your Personal Vegas faves, so let's start off with with hotels. You guys were whereabouts. Have you stayed? What have you liked? What have you not liked any any suggestions on on where to stay aware not to stay. Those are always fun ones as well. That's that's really tough. Tough and that's the one thing about Vegas. Is that There are so many choices for hotel and somebody good choices for hotel and they range. There's such a huge range of price and quality and the problem with. Vegas is the location I mean when people ask me you know. Where's that I stay I say well. You have to figure out which which location you want I. Are you looking for a downtown type.

"Do have a best bet coming up from St Fezzet here in just a couple of moments, it is an NFL related best. Bet Your chance to make some coin on the national. Football League, but first I wanted to get your thoughts on this because I might be the only one who thinks this is a bigger deal than maybe some people are reporting on it, or at least discussing Sean Payton and I don't WanNa make accusations here, so I don't WanNa come on the air and say four certain that Sean. Payton was buckled when he was doing this interview. I have no idea whether he was drinking or. Or not, but he came out pretty strong on several subjects and Sean. Payton was on one, zero, five, seven, the fan in Baltimore, talking about the acquisition of Jameis Winston, signing James Winston and he went on to say that back in twenty fourteen that Lovey Smith, and the bucks took out all their starters, so they could lose week seventeen to the New Orleans saints so that they could end up with the number one pick so that they could draft Jameis Winston now if you go back and look at that game, new, Orleans or Tampa Bay was up twenty two seven. They had a thirteen point lead at the start of the fourth quarter and ended up. Twenty three to twenty. I mean. Call me crazy Fez, but if I'm finding out that a team is trying to throw a game. And I'm a sports better. Wouldn't that Piss you off if you had money on Tampa Bay. It's all about player performance evaluation Jonas. He got to see what you got with some of the backups, and frankly we've been seeing this in the NBA for a decade now so I think there's a big distinction between a team trying to lose versus a team juggling their lineup, and they lose because of it. I know that sounds to be similar, but I think there's a big differential between the. The two well, let me here's my theory as to what actually happened. This is what I think happened because. Sean Payton specifically said Lovey Smith took out all his starters. Here's what I think happened I think. I don't think lovey Smith wanted to do it. First of all I think. Lovey Smith was told by the front office. Take out your starters late in the game at some point so. So that, we can improve our odds of losing that football game and I think lovey. Smith went against everything that he knows about football competition, everything in his core and tank to the game late by taking the starters out, and then a year later got fired by the organization I. Think Lovey Smith was pissed off because he did everything for the organization when against everything inside of him as As far as competition goes, took his starters out of the game thinking I'm helping the organization at least they can help me. And a year later got fired for it, and they turn the keys over to dirt cutter I. Think Lovey Smith was pissed off about that felt like he got wronged and got duped by the organization, and that's why he told Sean Payton the story. That's my theory. Possible but lovey Smith has never been very much of a football coach and Tampa. Bay Did get Winston instead of Marietta show. It worked out better for them G's, and you're taking out. Lovey Smith to finish up the show. Good guy says all right, so speaking of Lovey Smith and Lovey Smith former team, and actually before we get your best bet here says you have a prediction when it comes to the NFL draft, I want you to just throw this out to everybody I'm not even going to respond to it I'm going to let it marinate for everybody's ears, and then we'll get into your best bet, so just go ahead within ten to fifteen years, the NFL will implement a. Lottery where they'll have the ping pong balls like the NBA, and you're not gonNA be guaranteed the number one pick with the worst record so ten to fifteen years. The NFL have a lottery that according to Steve Fez. Fez Best Bet Lovey Smith related his former team. The Chicago bears. What are you got? Chicago bears season when the bears are going to go under eight wins Jonas. The bears are overrated. They went eight eight last year and I. I hear the talk. Hey, foles could be an upgrade over trubisky. Shouldn't the bears win more than eight Games will possibly, but here's the problem Jonas the. The bears won eight games last year, but they really should have only one six. "On National Radio Mike God what else you got in the toolbox. Don't answer that all right. A game game number four game number four says five week one lines in the NFL that surprise you. What's game number four? All Right? My Las Vegas Raiders I have to talk about them going to be playing in allegiance. Stadium I drive by it almost every day Jonas their Ad Carolina the Linus, Peckham and I gotTa tell you. I really feel the raiders should be favored. Carolina's already rebuilding. They have a brand new coach and Matt Rule. Brand new quarterback in bridgewater. My feeling is that with Cova and with the Elimination of the OTA's limited practices. This is really going to put new coaches and new quarterbacks up against it, and because of that I favor the raiders. Do you agree Jonas Yeah I? I agree as well, too. I think Carolina's GonNa be overrated. I think it felt like Carolina. was kind of making it up this? This offseason like some of the moves if you're rebuilding, why are you making this move? And then going out and making this move? It's like they got rid of all their their veterans, but then they paid a bunch of money to bring in Teddy Bridgewater. And then they brought in quarterback from the, and it's like Oh, well, Matt Rules Connection with all these guys are great, but that doesn't equal out to success immediately and I think they're in one of the more difficult divisions in the NFL. Carolina's GonNa Struggle this upcoming season. Carolina season win number. Five Asa Las Vegas. Saying here's a team that clearly is going to be rebuilding the team with the lowest season when Jacksonville going to be a long year for the Jaguars at four and a half Jonas all right Steve Fezzet final one your fifth game. Five Games surprise you week one lines in the NFL. What's number? Five Green? Bay at Minnesota and Minnesota is laying three and a half and frankly Jonas. I think that most people and I agree think these teams are pretty close to equal and Minnesota's a really good homefield worth about three and a half so this line would make sense if there were fans but a big part of Minnesota's home field advantages. It's very noisy stadium there i. don't think there's going to be fans more than eighty percent. Chance that they'll. They'll just be token fans or no fans and attendance, and because of that I can't see how Minnesota should be favored by the three and a half. It should be more like two to two and a half. What the reduced home field advantage should be. Do you agree well I would disagree I like Minnesota in this game and I like him big here's. First of all. It's a one PM eastern time kickoff, and we know that favors kirk cousins because of his OCD, secondly Minnesota knows what it's like to kick out fans because they kicked out, Ragnar, their longtime mascot, a few years back, and he hasn't been allowed back in the building all right, so the fact that Minnesota's already setup themselves for understanding what it's like to lose at least one fan and a very. Very valuable fan at that I think Minnesota's accustomed to it. I like Minnesota big in that game. Yeah, Kirk cousins, when the game starting at one o'clock eastern. If you just did nothing but bet on Minnesota you cash two thirds of the time, if the starting time as anything other than one PM eastern the other team, their opponent caches two thirds of the time. Can it be that easy Jonas I know? Now that I picked Greenvale probably win by two touchdowns. So who knows all right.

"Get in the zone autozone. So the Michael Jordan. Last dance documentary. Steve Fezzet has had all sorts of late years attached to it and it comes in time in which people are trying to find something to talk about and so every single Sunday for five straight weeks there were different things hanging off the tree that p people could pull from the latest is the quote unquote flew game in which Michael Jordan said in the final episodes of the last dance that it actually was a pizza that he ordered and he had gotten food poisoning from the pizza and it wasn't exactly the flu game. Well as it turns out the man who claims to have made the pizza for Michael Jordan which was delivered to his room in Utah. His name is Greg fight and he appeared on the Ben Maller show he also appeared on the herd with Colin cowherd and he's made On on Fox sports radio and of these Fox sports radio affiliates and he's made the rounds in done some interviews and he is saying that there was nothing done to the pizza. It was not intentionally poisoned. Because he in fact is a Bulls Fan. He made the pizza and even joked that he was gonna make sure that it was extra special before the pizza was sent out to Michael Jordan. And he didn't even know if it was for sure go into Jordan until he found out after the fact. Here's why it doesn't matter whether or not this was intentionally poisoned or not. Just because he didn't intentionally poison the pizza doesn't mean that it wasn't food poisoning. I've had food poisoning before I had a sub sandwich from a sub sandwich chain. I'm not name names here because I don't want to out anybody but I got food poisoning and it was awful for about twenty four hours. I was vomiting everywhere. Six literally sick to my stomach. I don't think that the guy behind the counter who made the sandwich intentionally tried to poison my food. He baby just had some bad products there so to me this whole well Michael Jordan's not being honest about the pizza. Look just because the food was poisoned. Doesn't mean that it happened intentionally. It could have been bad ingredients. It was the end of the night. I think it's much to do about nothing and more a more of an indictment on the lack of sports that we have to talk about. This is even a story in my opinion says. Yeah I agree. Let's face it Jonas. One do you think was the last pizza they made in Utah in Salt Lake? That night. At eight o'clock. Pm So ingredients sitting out for maybe two two hours two and a half hours so basic stregic. If you're GONNA eat late night. Probably EAT IN VEGAS NOT IN. Salt Lake and I think that had more to do whether it was intent or not. I think we all knew that Jordan was indeed very very sick. Yeah I just To me what I when I'm seeing some of the reactions and people are saying. Oh Man we knew Michael is now. Listen Horace Grant late into Michael Jordan. And I've said from the START I think a lot of what we saw on this quote unquote documentary is an indicator that when you see a documentary. It's not exactly a documentary. Making a murderer that was cited towards one aspect of it. Whether it's you know if you want to go all the way back and you WanNa go to paradise lost which was about the murders and Robin Hood Hills with which came out on. Hbo Years and years ago. If you're getting a documentary it doesn't mean that it's entirely accurate. It's just accurate to whatever that side of the argument wants to portray so just because Jordan is saying these things as we're finding out they're not exactly all one hundred percent truce. They're just stuff that he is putting into the documentary and people are running with it. I think we gotta calm down. Maybe he was. His food was poison. But it doesn't mean that it was done intentionally. Regardless did you have money on the flu. Game Steve I don't recall it's been too long. Yes all right. It's a Steve. Jonas knocks in for RJ. Bell here on Fox. Sports Radio Straight out of Vegas here on FSR and you can check out the show on the IHEART radio APP all right coming up next. There is an aspect to today's gambling. World that was impacted by something. You saw.

"The curtain Jonas. Let's do it. Yeah absolutely and we're going to start Fez with a little bit of breaking news. It's in your backyard. The backyard of this show here on Fox sports radio FEZ IS YOUR CITY. Sin City actually opening up sooner rather than later. Yes we are. I gotTa Tell You Jonas. I am so excited. I've been waiting for this day seemingly for the past six weeks so lost vegas sands news just breaking plans to reopen not just the hotel the Venetian hotel but the casino as well. June first is the day that they're reporting and my town has been ghost out the strip. Jonas Irie to be down there. Nothing but construction workers security homeless and a few brave joggers. It's time to get back to normalcy or as close to it in Vegas. Have you ever Seen Vegas like this? Is it ever as anything ever even approached this with any tragedy to tap and whether it was the mass shooting whether it was you know nine eleven? Is Vegas ever looked like this since your time there? Oh Not at all and Vegas may shut down for sixteen hours but the one thing about Vegas no matter how bad the country was doing. We were largely recession proof when it came to just visitors coming to the town and wanting to gamble and the casinos were open for the casinos to have been closed for two months. I got to tell you. It has impacted my city. I think as much as any city in the country and just the psyche of all of the people. It's our life blood the casinos. Having the mall closed shocking. Look I I do a lot of hits and I'm good friends with the guys at Fox sports. Nine Ninety are wonderful affiliate in Honolulu and they're always having me on rick. Amada John Matthews. The guys are awesome over there and they've told me that their unemployment approached forty percent forty percent unemployment Hawaii because of the tourism in Vegas. It has a Lotta Tourism. And so if it's not a place where you can welcome in visitors. Everybody there's GonNa take a hit so now with the news that comes out that the Venetian is opening up on June first. Says we talked about this? This second somebody jumped onto the dance floor. I everybody else is going to start to look and go okay. I guess it's I guess it's okay for us to all go out there. And when you saw Florida go out. And then when you saw California and Gavin Newsom make the statement or or the leak came out that potentially we were GONNA be shut down in California until after July right after that we talked about it live on the air. Arizona opened up to pro sports a couple of days after that. Now obviously no fans but I think the more that we see other places opening up in particular California who is now going to be open to the idea of pro sports coming back the first week of June. I gotta think that Californians are going to make up maybe a large part of the audience. That may be visiting Vegas in the near weeks. Oh no doubt about it because let's face it. A lot of people still aren't going to want to get on a plane and travel right now but just coming up fifteen four hour drive and the pent up demand. People have been home for so long and the fact that they're governor is new as opening it up somewhat. I think people are going to be absolutely to just get out of their houses and do something so the key is Vegas has to have the guidelines ready and I just read that. There's going to be Venetians. Going to have eight hundred initiatives in cleaning and the like and the gaming areas are apparently going to be at half capacity so three people at a blackjack table let six at the craps table so there will be limitations in terms of how close people will be in proximity. I'm sure hopeful. It's all going to work it now. Here's the thing all right and just so we if we're going to peel back the curtain here as you mentioned To start out the show straight OUTTA VEGAS here on Fox Sports Radio. You often hear on the show. That Fez is a two time super contest winner so back to back years and if you could quickly explain what the super contest and it is in essence the super bowl of NFL gambling correct. Yeah what I liked to compare it to as we all watch the world series of poker. The main event Chris moneymaker wanted. Greg Raymer won it so the equivalent in sports. Betting is the super contest and I was fortunate enough to win the main event of sports betting in two thousand and eight and then again two thousand nine okay in other words you kicked its ass two years in a row. We got so. Fed is really good at the sports gambling. Stuff we got it. Everybody's clear on that. I had no idea until we were discussing before the show what the casinos are going to look like if you missed it. We opened up the show with it. June first the Venetian is going to be opening. Backup in Las Vegas. I think it's huge and it could could have an impact not only on that city but another sign that the country is opening up. I didn't know this. The you also know your poker's while to Fez and the world series of poker which is the poker event of all poker events across the country extremely popular popular event. Where did you finish in the world series of poker well? I had a twentieth place finish in a six handed event. Now keep in mind Jonas. There's about a hundred events. Each summer there were there were but there was. I think like three thousand people and I have cast three time. So I'm I'm an avid poker player there so you finished twentieth in the World Series of poker. It's not just that you're an avid poker player. You're a really good poker player but you identified the fact that there's going to be limitations. With how many bodies can be at different tables in Las Vegas and you said that this could have an impact when it comes to poker. Moving forward yet does not look good for poker in the short term. And here's why Jonas anyone who's played poker knows a lot of people like to play poker because of the social aspect of it and also poker works well with seven eight nine people at a table while the current guidelines and the restriction say maximum of four players per poker table every poker game. I've ever played in when we get down to five players. The game winds up breaking up. People don't WanNa play so I think the one area one of the last areas to come back in the casino is going to be the poker rooms. I can't see how they're going to be successful. Only four players and the world series of poker and all. The events got rescheduled to the fall. Got Canceled this summer. I don't know if they're going to be able to pull it off this year. Yeah so it'll be interesting to watch but as we mentioned the Venetian opening backup June first. That story broke a short time before we went on the air. Here on straight Outta Vegas here on Fox Sports Radio. We also have another mystery. We were going to dive into in the world of sports..
