The former Portuguese colony awarded the licenses to MGM Resorts Las Vegas Sands wind results and three Chinese rivals after they promised to help diversify its economy by investing in non gambling attractions. Macau is under pressure from the Chinese government to diversify with retailing entertainment and other industries and to reduce reliance on gamblers from the mainlands its main revenue source. The territory of 700,000 people is the world's most tourism dependent economy which has shrunk since anti COVID restrictions shut down most tourist travel in 2020.
How to Deal with Crowds
"I'm not done with where we left off this conversation about the horn and the challenge and the video that may be coming and potentially some black eyes on me in the next few videos. Oh man, okay. All right, I got you. So back to this Vegas thing, you know, and I can't stop paying attention to this now. Thought I thought of you, Jay over the weekend. In what way? Can you side shot side shot? iPhone situation whereas iPhone got run over and we had to take it to the Apple store now. I think we talked about that previously. So we had an appointment. It's in the mall. We go to the mall, the mall's crazy as can be crazy busy. Okay. And I think the mall traffic is coming back with the kids because of Stranger Things because of what they've done to repopulate it. So the Apple store is downstairs, we come in on the top level, okay? Gotta take the escalator, right? I think I know it's mall, you're going to, yes. Yeah, yeah, right. That one. Top of the escalator circled around the entrance to the escalator. Oh, lord. Completely blocking access to the, let me just reframe this for you. Holiday shopping season has already started. Crazy busy. We're just trying to get to our appointment, circled around the top of the escalator where you have to get on it. Is a family, stopped and completely conversing. In the middle of the road, the elevator was completely blocked. That's just ridiculous. People are just oblivious to what's going on around them. I really think the little air horn thing carrying this air horn in my pocket, if you guys don't know what that was all about. And just tooting it at people from behind. It will startle them, but we have to film this, right? You have to. So I think having side shot with you may give you a little protection. Yeah. You know, could we like throw him under the bus and have him toot the horn? Yeah, if he's, I don't know if he'd be willing to do it. He's super courteous. But I know, but still, man, you know, yeah. Just a little bit funny. And I don't know that you have to be aggressive. I think you just say, excuse me, and you keep moving, right? Yeah, pretty much. I think that's what you have to do. You know, you can apologize, but you never know what that's going to return. I mean, I really want to hear from people on this. Hey guys, please go to your favorite podcasting platform and go find the parts counter gurus. You can even go to our website at parks counter gurus dot com. Hey, can we do a Facebook poll? Is that still a thing? I think it is a thing, you know? We can check into that and maybe we can get stars and awards and all that stuff and they can leave live comments. I mean,
Gearing up for 2024
"It is that week. It's that week where we remind you every week that the game is Saturday. There might be Thanksgiving between now and the game, but it's really all about the game. I believe Byron York is an agnostic about Ohio State in Michigan as I am neutral about all the Republicans who were in Las Vegas. Am I right about that Byron you don't give a dog on about the whole state of Michigan or Ohio? That is absolutely let's say that for, but I don't care about the higher state in Michigan. I was raised with Alabama and auburn, which is a much more important contest in my humble opinion. Well, it's definitely not this year. I don't think you're going to find many people are going to rally to the Byron York point of view there. But what did Byron New York think about Las Vegas and the first of many candidate parades of 2023 24? Actually, here is something I would very much like to get to your opinion on, which is I'm sure you've watched several of Donald Trump's rallies over the past 6 months. And there are critics who say, well, they're not quite as spirited as they used to be, et cetera. But they're pretty as performances. Let's just talk as performance. They're actually pretty impressive. And when you put him next to anybody, other than Ron DeSantis, perhaps, but also Ron DeSantis, just as a performer on the stump. You put Trump next to Mike Pompeo or Ron DeSantis or Mike Pence or Nikki Haley if she changes her mind and decides to run against Donald Trump. Would you have a 2016 situation in which one of the performers is so much stronger than the others? That there's a bit of an imbalance there.
Republicans Discuss How to Move Away From Trump
"Welcome back, America two here at David and drucker. I didn't give a damn for the whole state of Michigan either because he is from California, but he was in Las Vegas last week for the first Republican candidate walk. It sort of like a fashion show and all the Republican candidates show up and this time it was the Republican Jewish coalition headed up by our old friend norm Coleman. David good, Thanksgiving week to you. What did you learn in Las Vegas? I tweeted out your article, but you tell us. It was very interesting weekend. I think what struck me the most is that there is a lot of consideration now and very open public consideration of whether or not they want, whether or not Republican activists and donors, but not just donors, but activists, people who knock on doors, all of that stuff. Want Donald Trump to continue to be the titular head of the party. He's obviously the FrontRunner for the 2024 nomination having announced he's a former president. He's got a very strong relationship with the Republican base. But after three consecutive electoral defeats, particularly this last one stinging because of how it unfolded and the opportunities that were there for Republicans, there was just a lot of talk about wanting fresh leadership continue the former president's policies by and large, but somebody fresh. I got that. Not just Rome Republicans who want to take his place, like Mike Pompeo, Mike Pence, Chris Christie, Nikki Haley. I talked to a number of Republicans, not Haley, but a number of the names that I just listed. But also just talking to the activists that were there. And I think people need to keep in mind the Republican Jewish coalition initially skeptical of Trump in the 2016 campaign really warm to him quite immensely because his record in the Middle East and as it relates to Israel and Iran and everything else in that region of the world was stellar from their point of view and very accomplished from their point of view. So it's not like, well, they never really liked them anyway. If you became a fan favorite.
Nevada count enters Day 4 with Senate, governorship on line
"The Nevada ballot count is in day four with major races still undecided I Norman hall with control of the U.S. Senate on the line Nevada's ballot count ground into a fourth day as election officials tell a thousands of votes Joe Gloria had voting operations in Clark county which includes Las Vegas We're not purposely holding this process back We're doing everything in our power to move ballots forward just as quickly as we can Nevada's count has taken several days partly because the male voting system requires counties to accept ballots postmarked by election day if they arrive up to four days later ballots with clerical problems can be fixed by the end of the day on Monday I Norman hall
Kash Patel: Adam Laxalt Is in a Strong Position to Win in Nevada
"What sort of outstanding what are you guys kind of expecting coming down the line here Yeah unlike Arizona which has like 500,000 ballots left tabulate or 300,000 Clark county Las Vegas We were totally up about 50,000 ballots remaining And with Nevada also does is election day drop offs for the first time ever They allowed that which means you can show up to the booth with your mail in ballot and literally drop it off Now numbers came in for courthouse master last night and shrunk salt Lee But based on our math and what's coming and what's outstanding of course has mass there has to run a 65% 35% spread on the outstanding ballots to catch and surpass black salt for the victory And we think based on where those ballots are coming in from her best numbers are already in which is why Adam continues to say like he did last night on Fox that he's in such a strong position And we believe he will be the next senator here
Kash Patel: Nevada Officials Chose to Delay Vote Counts
"I think a lot of people listening are just wondering what the heck's going on Well listen I'm in Nevada my home state I'm in Vegas I've been out here for Nevada and Arizona a lot on behalf of president Trump's candidates And here's the rundown What most people don't realize about Nevada is it's only a three and a half million vote count And Florida in places like Missouri who are two X three X that plus were able to count their ballots the same day And it's not that Nevada doesn't have that capability or Arizona which is even worse doesn't have it It's the elected officials chose to make it so They chose to have a two week run into the election for mail in ballots They chose to have an extended deadline And what Nevada was specifically problematic for us is a registrar's office in washoe and Clark county those are the two most heavily populated counties in Nevada 85% of the population Called the Alexa campaign on election day and said we are understaffed Literally they said we are understaffed As if they didn't expect the election day to come it's because of these rules that they make up and the current governor just lacking the current state AG and company have allowed these election type scenarios to play out So the mainstream media can perform their disinformation campaigns But where in a really good spot with the numbers and we can get into those if you'd like for lax law
How Could Florida Count Votes Faster Than Nevada and Arizona?
"And I want to talk about why I'm so annoyed and aggravated and really downright enraged. It's 22 million people here in Florida. 7 million people in Arizona. Harry Arizona. What the hell is wrong with you? Pardon my language. I don't feel too good. 7 million people in Arizona, more than three times that in Florida, and somehow Florida is able to count the ballots, short them all out, tabulate them and make an announcement. Oh, on election night. How is that? Who is that? Don't tell me it's because it wasn't that close in Florida. You mean if it's close, it takes longer to count the ballots? Oh, that's real reassuring. That's real reassuring. Well, if it's not close, we don't really count that carefully. Either count the ballots or you don't. Hey Maricopa County, what's wrong with you? Hey, Nevada, what's wrong with you? You know, we're still waiting on Las Vegas because there's never any corruption in Las Vegas. No. Yeah, Las Vegas. That's like the Gates of heaven right there. There's a pillar. There is pure as the driven snow in Vegas. They wouldn't do any cheating in Vegas or anything.
Kari Lake: We Shouldn't Have Election Season, It's Election Day
"Are we in the third world Now if you're going to be the governor which seems likely at this point of Arizona can you please do me a favor and commit to this on the show 'cause I got kind of enough with this BS I'm done I ran for office my time's over It's your time now Can you please in the name of God now not using his name and Vega on the phone with Ron DeSantis And figure the freaking system out This isn't North Korea Carrie Lake I know you're tired of it too because you're being dragged through the mud with this process This is both man Can you clean this thing up when you're the governor please Absolutely Yeah they stole both of our victory nights I mean which is okay That's nothing What's really offensive is the disrespect they have for the people of this state to treat us this way when it comes to our elections And on day one you know I've already said it we're issuing a declaration of invasion and we are going to start a special session with a legislature to restore honesty to our elections We are not going to these things out for days on end And we will find a way to have election day and have results election night And I guarantee you I promise you we will get that done This is outrageous what's happening where the butt of jokes and worse than that it's offensive to the people of this state We deserve better We shouldn't have election season we need to get back to election day
AJ's Initial Thoughts on Election Night 2020
"I mean, who would have thought? We'd ever miss hanging chads. So this show is a combination of famous bits and politics is a bitch. I can't believe we have to go to bed. It's 1 o'clock in the morning here in Las Vegas. My throat is horse from screaming at the TV, screaming at Donna brazile, Chris Wallace, Jake tapper, a number of other assholes that I just can't John Roberts. I can't say. And some fucking boring woman, they put on the Fox News channel, along with Martha McCallum, who's the wolf in sheep's clothing and Brett Bayer who, listen, he has his one hour time slot on Fox that's the most boring fucking show, you ever want to see. You know, I know he's steady Eddie, but he has no panache, no pizazz, the team that Fox put together to bring us this election night special, the biggest election of our generation. What a fucking dud, so I'm a horse. And I'm a little worse for wear, but this is an embarrassment. Not to mention there was some very dubious behavior. If not criminal behavior, and we're going to find out in the ensuing days, you know, we heard for a while that Pennsylvania was going to be a pain in the ass. But did we expect it to be this fucking annoying? you guys lock up and go home? What kind of fucking union is this? Are you kidding me? The presidential election hangs in the balance and you're going home. Did we expect Arizona to apparently apparently I should say flip like we're being told it flip? Is this the ghost of John McCain sticking up Trump's asshole? Sure seems that way if the numbers hold up. Wisconsin we don't know yet. Michigan, we don't know yet. And the Secretary of State and Pennsylvania said they could be counting ballots till Friday.
Defying inflation worries, US casinos have best quarter
"Prices there doesn't seem to be many inflation worries when it comes to gambling The American gaming association says the casino industry had its best quarter ever winning over $15 billion from gamblers in the third quarter of this year In fact the trade organization for the casino industry says the gambling halls are on track to have their best year ever David Schwartz is a gambling historian at the university of Nevada Las Vegas He says people are clearly still willing to lay their money down in casinos regardless of economic conditions adding there may be more of an appetite for taking chances in
Is Trump Plotting a 2024 Return to the White House?
"The former wonder if not talk about what we expected him to talk about last night. Do you think he's reassessing in 2024 plans right now? Well, I think that in any normal universe, the idea that you're going to announce on the heels of an election like this, where the candidates you pushed and the messaging that you helped influence fell flat. That's really something to do and the idea that Republicans other Republicans interested in The White House and you know them you and you know that they want it would just simply step aside or step gingerly after. I don't even know what to call it. That would make absolutely zero sense. I can't wait to hear seeing what I hear and learn at the Republican Jewish coalition conference in Las Vegas at the end of next week because a good dozen of them are going to be there. Trump will not. And there is a lot of reassessing that needs to happen.

Townhall: New Data Wipes out Democrat Narratives on Crime
"Here is the data Go to my newsletter if you want to read it yourself on Geno dot com slash newsletter Katie pavlich is a great piece of a town hall New data wipes out the Democrat narrative on crime So apparently they did a little study on what's going on with crime around the country And they found that murder rates that the review of these murder rates in these counties shows a very specific pattern That 30 of the cities with the highest murder rates 27 of them have democratic mayors Wow that sounds like a lot Sounds like it could be correlational evidence there The only exceptions being Lexington and Jacksonville that have Republican mayors and Las Vegas whose mayors and independent And within those 30 cities there are 14 Soros backed or Soros inspired rogue prosecutors That's what's called actual data And there's the data folks The cities that are showing the highest spikes in murder rates and crime spike are run by Democrats almost exclusively Detroit Chicago where we're on the air Dallas which sadly has been trending blue a little bit But going in that direction you want more of this or you want Law & Order You want to share who cares and respects about respect your civil rights and everyone else's but says you know what You protest all you want You're not protesting in the streets and blocking traffic What do you want Because you get to say today You get to go out and vote for that today and against the bad guys today
Nevada ACLU requests probe into alleged partisan hand-count
"Nevada's ACLU as requested a probe into an allegedly partisan hand count Nevada's American civil liberties union wants the Republican Secretary of State barbarous sagacity to investigate why a GOP volunteer packing a handgun on her waistband kicked one of their observers out of the room where mail in ballots were being hand tallied It happened last week in Nye county a rural area 60 miles west of Las Vegas which has about 33,000 registered voters Night county commissioners voted for a hand count of every ballot in response to complaints by residents that echoed conspiracy theories about voting machines interim clerk Markov says the observer that was kicked out was tallying votes on a notepad something that is not allowed After just two days the hand count was shut down Nevada Supreme Court issued a ruling that the count had to be conducted in a way that prevents the public release of early results The ACLU had complained that among other things officials were reading the candidate's names out loud from the ballots within hearing distance of public observers confess says he submitted a new hand count plan to the Secretary of State's office that he hopes to get approved this week I'm Jennifer King

Rep. Chip Roy: Hispanics Are Flocking to Republicans
"Covered in my first hour How I've run for office I lost you one I didn't get it done Couldn't cross the finish line But you know when you run a couple of times you get the process kind of down and you see a lot of things other people don't get to see him I have not seen an electoral environment turn in the Republicans favor Like this since the Tea Party And I think what's about to happen in 12 days congressman I think it could be I want to get ahead of my skis here but I think it could be worse They're panicking over D plus 12 D plus 13 districts The Democrats Well you're exactly right I mean I think you can look at a couple of the bellwether races and you can see what's going on right The race is down in South Texas or a perfect example where you've got three Hispanic women running one of them is my dear friend Cassie Garcia Running against guys like Henry cuellar who am I like It's a friend of mine but still supports Nancy Pelosi and a radical left And Cathy's running on a strong border security message She's married to a border patrol agent She's strong on border security not afraid to talk about it And Hispanics are flocking in that direction If you look at Northern Virginia and you look at jasla Vega against Abigail bamberger another one where Abigail she's a friend of mine I've worked with her on Bing But again she supports Nancy Pelosi And what you have there is she's running abortion ads I mean they're so out of touch And so out of step with where the average American is right now in terms of what the impact is on their families with respect to inflation with respect to energy costs with respect to crime with respect to what's happening with fentanyl in our community And they're just way out of touch and that radical left is just getting I think that's going to shine on election day and I think it's going to be a big night for the GOP

"Married. It's official bennifer part two. Jennifer wrote we did it. Love is beautiful. Love is kind and it turns out, love is patient. They went to they waited 20 years for this. So it is patient. They flew to Las Vegas and get this Garrett, I love it. They studied lion like everybody else with four other couples. Oh, it's so cute. So behind them were two men about to get married, they were holding hands in front of them as a young couple who had drove for three hours to get to the wedding capital of the world. I think this is so romantic. Can you imagine? Rob shooter, it sounds like a Jennifer Lopez movie, okay? This is like the extension of her movie marry me where you have, let's say you and I, we run off to Vegas on a whim on a Sunday on a Saturday night. Let's get married. Let's get you and I just, let's do it. And then we're waiting in line and we turn around to rob Schroeder to our surprise. There's Lopez and Ben Affleck. Not for Friends for themselves. Hello, so they said they barely made it to the little white wedding chapel. They had an appointment at midnight, and there were a few minutes late birds. They stayed open, surprise, surprise. They also let them sit in the pink Cadillac convertible, which Jennifer thinks, which Jennifer says wouldn't belong to Elvis himself, but get this, this is for me. They did not have an Elvis impersonator at the wedding. They kept a classic. Well, not just that, Jennifer said he was in bed, and it costs a little bit extra. You got it girl, you got the money there. You know what's it? You know what's interesting about the Elvis impersonators at weddings, the Elvis estate, which is not run by Elvis family anymore by a company. They're trying to get rid of those Elvis wedding chapels. So Jennifer Lopez could have one of the last Elvis inspired wedding. The whole time. And she turned up too late. Late for it, poor thing, so he was in sleep, and they didn't want to pay the extra money. So she said that they had the best witnesses ever, she didn't name names, but I know it was her children. Her children was there and also her mommy was there. I love this it's so Sex and the City, the movie. Jennifer war, an old dress from one of her movies. And then his white jacket was from his closet and they said they're back. And he got changed in the bathroom. It doesn't feel right. I know it's right. I know what happened, rob shooter just doesn't feel right. You know what I mean? So this is my so delightful about this. I used to work for Jennifer Lopez. I know I say it all the time. In fact, I was her publicist when she dated Ben for the very first time almost. You were there for round one. I was never around one. There is a side of Jennifer Lopez that is not J.Lo and she's can actually be sort of normal. And if you go to the Hamptons with her, she'll pull a hair back in a ponytail, not wear any makeup, wear some flip flops and can get on a bicycle, like there's a side of Jennifer that is still that girl from The Bronx that is not fabulous. Do you see a trend I mean, 'cause we kind of experienced this a few months ago with Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson of that normalcy and do you think that as glamorous as Hollywood is and when premieres happen, yes, they are glamorous. They want what everybody else has that watches these people live their lives of that quote unquote normally. I think the simple thing that they miss out on and there's a part of just having a normal life that is so fantastic Tom Cruise and also Brad Pitt love to ride motorcycles because they become just another guy with a helmet on. You don't know them. And with Jennifer, I think part of her desperately desires normal see. And this is the most normal thing to do. It makes me really love her even more that they jumped on a plane and I'm sure it was a private play. They weren't flying. Circus circus hotel, they stayed somewhere fabulous. But I think penthouse penthouse. I think this is just so romantic now what I'm told to a little bit of exclusive news after all is the naughty but nice show. Is that they will throw a massive party. So when they get back to LA, maybe even in New York, maybe even in Europe, there will be a big party for all their friends. We reported just a couple of weeks ago exclusively that Matt Damon would not be the best man and I could not get any details about this wedding. And now I know why. Nobody knew the Friends didn't know. The only people that knew she was going to Vegas was Ben, clearly, the children, and also her mom. Not a lot of people knew she was doing this and I think that's why it's kept so undercover and you know how she confirmed it. It's such a J.Lo Kardashian brilliant marketing tool. She confirmed it on her newsletter, which you have to go to her website inside up for. It's free, put in your email and you get little notes from Jennifer Lopez. I signed up, I love it, but that's how she did it so I was told overnight her newsletter went from many thousands of followers to millions. Yeah, now we'll get all the coupons for J.Lo's perfume in the next few weeks. Watch today will be flooded with a fragrance, a shoe collection. A wedding fragrance. By yourself by the frame. By yourself in J.Lo gifts for her wedding. Garrett, you're a genius. I love this idea. Hey, let's go to our poll of the day. Jennifer and Ben are finally married. Will it last? Oh, it's a naughty question. Will it last? This is her fourth marriage. It's his second marriage. They're going to be based in Hollywood. It's tricky, isn't it? I hope they will, but what do you think? Go vote on our Twitter page at naughty and I's rob. A Facebook page is naughty gossip, and be sure to check back some more to hear your results. I hope they make it. I do too. Hey Garrett with your new haircuts, looking very handsome. What are you working on there? You are the birthday boy, so whatever you Chris Pratt darling, Chris is your guy. And by the way, this is the last day of birthday, anything after tomorrow, birthday. We stop the birthday stuff, okay? All right, so let's talk about Chris Pratt. So he will never play Indiana Jones because of one person. Indiana Jones himself, Harrison Ford. Chris Pratt shut down the rumors if he was interested in taking over the role, you know, Shia LaBeouf tried it and they brought a little buffet and Harrison Ford had to come back and play himself in Indiana Jones to pretty much carry it. He went on to explain that he turned up the reason why he will never do the role based off of what Harrison Ford said he goes. All I know is I once saw a quote from Harrison Ford, don't even know if it was really him, but it was enough to scare me. You hear someone like Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson say something, it's very scary, it could be very scary. He goes, when I die, Indiana Jones dies and I'm like, I'm not gonna get haunted by the ghost of Harrison Ford one day, if he dies and I play, you know, Indiana Jones, of course. And of course, that went back to 2019 quote when Harrison Ford was on Today Show and he said that he is the one and only Indiana Jones, which is true and I get that. I'm Indiana Jones, when I'm gone, he's gone. It's easy. Plain and simple, but I get it. I know they did it with Spider-Man. There's like four different Spider-Man right now, but at the end of the day, there's really there's a Spider-Man, just like Batman. Indiana Jones, give me one Indiana Jones. Don't give me several Indiana Jones. Don't give me these sons and one Indiana Jones and we move on. I think you get creative because it's not being done before. So after it's been done a couple of times we'll say there can be many Indiana Jones. It's hard to be the first replacement as Tyra Banks on Dancing with the Stars. Like it's hard to replace somebody and the question is, would you take that job like Garrett and your life if a major job came up at a radio network to take over film from Howard Stern or Ryan Seacrest, you know the audience doesn't really want you, they want Ryan, they want Howard. Would you do it? Here's my theory on that, or I'm sure. You ready for this? And I think everybody should realize that. You have to be very confident in yourself to be the person after the person. You know what I mean? So if you were going to be after Howard Stern, you best be the level of Howard Stern. But here's the thing. You know that's never going to be the case. And everyone's going to jump on that first person whoever plays Indiana Jones. What do you want to be is the second second. 'cause what happens

I wanted to be there. Wake up in vegas this morning. I didn't have enough time to go gamble and do other vegas things but because if you think about it once you go into that wants to show starts on friday night it's just twenty four hours of music twenty four hours plus because you've got the after the next morning you got that entire day stage and then you've got another five hours after that on saturday so i don't know i for one in a big fan. I left everybody alone backstage. I didn't have any you know. I was just excited to to be a part of all that. And then they had this fan pet on both sides which they never have they put a fan paint on both sides of the stage in the front where it's just people there and it's standing room. Only the general. Admission that to me was a major upgrade concert. Diamond you should this on what scary was trying to make everyone in the fan pit do oh i thought we were going to. You guys need to come down to the pit so we agree because at this point we don't have a choice artists from twelve feet away. Yeah right everybody great but we get into the pit for nellie in a soon as we get in there. I don't know how many people were there. But i can't count here. He goes asking here. She pulls out her camera to videotape me. And i'm like. I want video video with my mask on. Want video with off if i'm going to wrap to the middle of nelly song ride with me. It's not going to be with a mask on. So i had you know every protocol that we were getting shoved up our at scary out there like fuck it. I'll send you guys on the thing. You know you weren't back where we were. But they were so hard core about all of the cova protocols because they're trying to keep everybody safe and the artist you know one person pops positive back there and it gets shut down so they have people coming back literally seeing if we're eating food if we're drinking water like oh the covert compliance officer. There was a cult. We attested multiple times to make sure that we are always negative. And there was these big signs that said k and ninety five mask must be required at this point. Unless you're wrapping tonelli nelly said. Take all your clothes that means that there was also zone zone zone. Be so wait. If you're in the one zone it was because you got the pr test if you were in the other zone you only got the rapid tests and apparently the rapid people in the pr. People weren't supposed to be in the same room together because the rapid room was the dirty room. They were calling these people dirty. You can't always dirty dirty hallway down that hallway. Dirty dirty already mucus festival. Yeah no. I mean they had people escorting us like blocking doors from hallways. Don't open that dr. I was like all right here. We go. This is fascinating. But i mean they were just doing their best to keep everybody safe as possible and also what i felt. Pretty damn sale my gosh a hundred percent. If you didn't feel safe there forget it. I will walked in jones. So i did. I did lose a twenty dollar bet. So i was talking to some of our radio friends in one of the rooms and there was like a cocktail lounge and they were just sitting there trot and having drinks. And somebody goes do that. I'm like that's fo fitness. that's fitness. that's not him. it looks like him but it's not and then they're out walking by video footage and then i'm looking at him having a casual conversation in a t shirt just talking to one person no one around like this is not him. That's just somebody that looks like. That's a funniest double while lost my twenty dollars because it was actually him so i think but how great crazy is that. He has these wild frenetic stage moments where he's rocking out on a guitar. And then like fifteen minutes just casually having a conversation you know in a t shirt and dem. Even you know whatever it was. I couldn't believe exam. But i lost money that night and it wasn't on it wasn't on the table at all. You lost yeah. I didn't really gamble. "A couple of weeks ago mountain west news bureau reporter. Nate heggie was standing on the edge of america's largest reservoir lake mead that straddles the arizona and nevada and it's massive more than one hundred miles long. Hundreds of feet deep and part of my job is to report on the growing water shortage in this area. Because let's face it much of this region is a straight up hot as hell desert. That's one way to put it and almost everyone in that desert gets their water from pretty much a single source the colorado river which is stretched thin these days. That river is where lake. Mead gets all of its water. It's the critical water source for millions of people. Living in seven states and cities like phoenix san diego and las vegas since the nineteen eighties lake mead and the colorado river at drying up because big reveal this is a desert a hot as hell desert right and climate change is definitely not helping things nor is the continued growth. Hordes of people are moving out west. And that's sucking lake mead dry and all this worries caldero rank. He's executive director of the base in water network and he focuses on water issues in the west. I'm i'm allowed mouth activist and these days. His loudmouth activism is focused on lake mead and the millions of people who are expected to move to nearby las vegas in the next few years. We can't go on with the status quo of just bulldozing the desert and squeezing as many people as possible and into those single family homes. This is the indicator from planet money. I'm darren woods. And i'm neat heggie. And this week we're talking about water in the west or the lack of it and today too fast moving trains that could collide that lack of water and explosive population growth support for npr and the following message. Terms apply see capital one dot com for details. Las vegas is known as an oasis in the mojave desert. You fly above all these brown dry hot mountains but when you land in the city a palm trees lawns. That color emerald massive casinos also with big beautiful fountains and pools. But those big beautiful fountains and pools aren't actually very wasteful. The casinos are really conservative with their water. Cowering says they actually recycle a lot of it when i think of water waste in southern nevada. I'm not thinking of you know the tourists taking shower at the bellagio. After they just watched the fountain spit up and down outside. That's not what i'm thinking about. He's thinking about everybody else. That lives in las vegas and it's not about the water they use. It goes down the drain from showers or going to the bathroom. That's actually cleaned up recycled back into lake mead. What roaring is actually worried about is all the water. That's used outside on those green lawns or the golf courses or in gardens. You know that actually makes up about sixty percent of the water used in the city and it essentially evaporates so i asked him what he would do if we could anoint him king of las vegas and in charge of all water on day. One there would be no blades of grass. Left here are ip grass dead grass. No more in the city's actually pushed regulations that reduce the amount of grass and newly built home can have so no front yard only half. The backyard is grass. But you know that said. There are still a lot of existing lawns in las vegas. They'll probably be more of them. As the city keeps growing people love moving there right. Political leaders are so hungry to help. Las vegas grow that they're actually pushing federal legislation. That would sell off. Tens of thousands of acres of undeveloped public lands south of the city to build thousands of new homes for future residents. Maybe those new residents would want a nice organic garden or a patch of green grass. That of course means mobile usage. Yeah and obviously vegas isn't the only western city that's growing right like phoenix is getting bigger. They need more water saint george. Utah's growing they need more water and as we keep saying over and over again. There's only so much water in the west. These days i mean remember. Most of these towns are relying on this one shrinking river the colorado this brings us to the big economic principle known as the tragedy of the commons environmental economics. One a one. If you have a shared resource people will try to use as much of it as they can. The aren't necessarily bad actors right but they're just doing what's best for themselves taking a drink but as more and more people are developers. Take drink the water shrinks and roaring worries that people will start jostling for those last precious drips. you know. that's what makes us really scary is like. Are we setting up a situation in our country where one community is more important than other. So when isn't loses could emerge from the scenario. But eventually if all the colorado water disappears everyone loses in that case is government regulation needed. That's already happening. For instance all seven colorado river states each have a certain allocation of water. They're allowed to take each year and this year for the first time ever due to the drought that allocation was actually limited and southern nevada is already done a really good job of conserving. Water for instance. Las vegas has worked really really hard to reduce consumption among its residents and they actually chopped in half over the past two decades by changing rules and actually paying people to remove lines in creating these kinds of incentives. But much of the american west is a whole is still in love with its green lawns. They have to be eradicated. And like i hope that doesn't sound fascist but like having that green lawn goes against you know the nature of the mojave desert but these regulations take political will and not all state or local. Governments are on the same page for instance. There's this one small town oakley utah. They're actually imposing a construction moratorium on new homes. That would connect to the city's water supply because they just don't have enough water but in the same state you've got saint george utah one of the fastest growing cities in the country and they want to actually build a pipeline to suck more water from the colorado river so it's complicated because everyone from developers to political leaders to affordable housing advocates. They all say the same thing the whist is growing and if we shut the door stopped building we limit housing supply. Prices go up even more so cities continue to sprawl. In these dry. West and towns like phoenix. Salt lake city and boise. That helps solve housing affordability but it does not solve the water problem. And that's the crux of it roaring says if we do keep growing in these desert's we.

Can the big news. I have a little more info on my dad and the family obituaries. If you don't mind catching up Danny and anyone who needs it about these obituaries. My dad wrote about himself and his sweet wife. I'd appreciate. I mean you got to catch up with the saga at keeping dot com slash dad because it is just the best ever but just for this segment of life with the molly's which is full of wonderment for this one because it sort of looks like the molly mom is sick an going to maybe potentially past. But he's always passing time to get pichu as in order so he took it upon himself The molly dad to right not just his. But his wife's. I don't know which one of those weirder both of them included his twitter for the record rating. Your own swears weirder. You're right we don't even need to take a poll that is absolutely true in these obituaries. He gives almost no information about his wife. Because i don't believe he knows her right right. He does give her the title of princess in all sincerity because she married a man of god. He was a priest. She gets the title princess so then from benon. He refers to spend us for the record. He's inventing that less. There's any confusion about why you don't know more princess in your life. If you know ex-priests priests. I don't know where he got. This should from just it just for the record we we talked to journalists and it turns out that would not check out in his own obituary. He decided to include a quote from his children that they never said and when he got pushback on it he insisted and that quote was he was our. What else needs to be said. They couldn't even sign off on that. That's been obituary. We won't even say he was our dad that there's some kind of dna that would say otherwise so not even in his own obituary. Does he get to have that. So now. there's been a back and forth about editing this piece. And he refuses to edit now. This is fantastic. Because he's gonna be dead eventually. We think we never know. But that's where we are. I think as far as So my siblings. Yeah they they make an obituary that won't let make him or the family look like a bunch of idiots and so he's so my dad then writes back to say point-by-point why everything needs to be kept in as is so my. My oldest sibling rates the title about princess. That title for mom is something that i will not excuse me. Excuse me this is that they have the same name. So i get confused. My dad wrote the title for mambi and princess. This is something that. I will not relent. On i will even be having it inscribed on our memorial stone for my salaries doubling down. Yeah well now. It's on this tombs. The princess kathy. Molly which i guess you would you would see it and just think like Right corny but okay. You're a princess. No but the obituary explaining why she's a princess is what's going to roll is if i sounded a graveyard i'd be like she is a princess right which is funny. I'm from somerset pennsylvania. The country close the pittsburgh but no way to city. No one in that town is going to go all we had royalty air the princess of steel right so he won opted ready for this. "Phoenix don't forget to rate and subscribe follow us and also shows at launched left. Today's very special guest is liz. Lammari on behalf of alan vega will be talking about his posthumous record. That was just released. Mutated alan vega is timeless time bandit of rock and roll and you may know from suicide but he so much more. We're going to really dig into the record and his art career and all good things music. Welcome to the show. So you co produced an unearthed. This record is outright. Alan and i met in the mid eighties after he was coming electric. Just a million dreams actually saturn strip which was an awesome album by rick. Okay sick but he was coming off of that. Mainstream major record label stint but he never let go of his roots. And when i met him he was still he guitar. Pedals and rhythm olivia machines. All jury raped on the floor at the gramercy park hotel and I was working as a lawyer on wall street but had always played drums in punk bands growing up in boston. Nazi into the rat back. The drinking age was eighteen. I'm like sixteen flying drones and vans and whatnot. But i didn't know suicide. Or alan vega one of the women that i worked with the law firm. Her brother was marked kocinscki. Coot who played guitar in the alan vega ban so she just said one day knowing that i was into music. Were picking up. Alan vega grammercy. We're going to the playdium. This big record release party for his latest albums that great so that night we met it was just an instant connection but fast forward in the interest of time roundabout eighty eight. I had been listening to alan with. Experimenting with sound is coming off electric. He's getting back to his roots. These kind of this whole deconstructing deconstructing music theory of notes and this kind of put it in context. He had gone to brooklyn college for art. Instead under ad reinhardt in tuesday he was amazing. Minimalist abstract painter who did a series of very famous black on black so to alan. It was the music equivalent of stripped down so there are no chord progressions. There are no keys everything is is based on what you feel and here and the idea of sound move it moving it movement of sound through rhythm and so he eventually said to me. Hey you're driver. Why don't we go into the studio together. And we can. Start working with some dissolve. These new affects machines Coming on the market and we could just start using those machines in the same way he was using the very stripped down old guitar pedals. So we went in and i had been recording and rehearsing with my band snub at a small Rehearsal studio in the east village called six eighth studio and the engineer there was super chill laid. Back guy herpin. Barnes energy and alan's would be a really good combination. Plus he was so chill that we came in and allen's whole ethos was you don't you really don't want to know how these machines are intended to be because we're not gonna use them that way anyway. These are not to affect acoustic instruments. These are these are generators of sound in of themselves and we're going to be pushing buttons and turning on and that's basically what we did starting juice avenue in the late eighties. How did that lead to mutate exactly or yes okay so we did a couple of additional power on and raytheon by this time. We were developing a following in europe. But we didn't have any. Us released but henry rollins was over on tour. Gets a copy of deuce avenues. Like this is so unique. Why is it not why you the people in the us are not getting exposed so he in one thousand nine hundred four came over to new york started a record label. He had already been doing this book publishing company. He had reached that he actually reached out to alan ninety two because he wanted listening to his lyrics on the suicide albums that he was familiar with this man must right. He must keep journals which showed up in their stacks and stacks. He wrote every night. So henry ended up doing the book. Critical nation do in like ninety four and from there. We started working with him on an album called. Do jiang prang. And in that instance perkin had some personal business. He was not in the studio. So we went to dessau recording studios and that was the first time that going into the studio was about recording a discreet album up until that point was really about just creating sound and every year or so i would say the allen. Let's pull you know. Like ten of these things. Cluster of a of a cohesive coal and put out a record so that we can go on tour and just kind of that was for me. That was part of the fun of it for allan. He would have been perfectly happy. Just keep creating tracks did not even releasing so there was a little push full so new. Tater had point in time. We are back at six studio recording the songs that would be communicator. And we actually had them. All done allen's process was also once we decided that we were gonna pull ten songs or however many would be fernanda. He would go into his notebooks and he would look through all his lyric. They weren't really lyrics his words and go into the recording studio and over like maybe one or two sessions literally record the entire album and would often be one. Performance was all in the performance. Sometimes i would say the son is into junk back into it again and it would do a completely different performance different lyrics i mean just as he never performed even with suicide. The never really performed the same songs the same way twice or even with the same lyrics. He was very much in the moment and really understand allen as creative being an artist He was he studied some existential philosophy. And and you know he was. He was a brilliant scientist and he was at brooklyn college to study astrophysics. But it was always drawing and the head of the art department happened to walk past a monday noodling in the library and said what is your major artists. That physics The art so he started taking our history and paint interesting. Really absorbed with the whole history of arkansas was always very interested in the history of music as well and in the depths of his his interest in knowledge of what kane before was pretty incredible. I considered myself to be fairly well. Educated person has been listening to talking to allen which he loved to do for hours about art history politics the world the universe so mutated so we had actually likely usually did finished all.
