"That Donald Trump's attorney had with the CBS reporter yesterday. Now put that up on my Facebook. Look, this was a show trial. That should not have happened. It dealt was serious issues, but not in the way that it should of if it happened at all. And to talk about this trial, which went into the weekend. I am joined, but I always say Iran Johnson and I don't want you to take this the wrong way. Run. I always say that you're the most honest guy in Washington, but that's setting the threshold. Oh, bit. Hello, Barbara. It's a low bar, but you are. Let's just say Ron Johnson, one of the most honest guys you'll ever meet, but he's certainly the most of this guy in Washington, Ron Johnson, welcome to the program. Glad to be here. You know, I watched that Michael Van Veen interview and what's going through my mind. She's having this Chuck Todd moment. And, Yeah, it's just such a shame. We have fewer and fewer journalist today we have advocates and they don't interview you anymore that they just come into the Interview with the artists they want. Just want to argue with you. They want to be you in argument. So you get the public doesn't really learn a whole lot of that stuff. But my final point for all that you asked me a question is to call that a trial. Just incorrect that that wasn't a trial that that was a zoo, said political theater. It was a charade. It was it's and it should have happened. It itself was incitement. And that's you know, was going through my mind during the entire trials. What about the excitement over the last four years if you want to talk about incitement? Are going back to Mart's AIDS, quote about rebellion and resistance and the coup and impeachment and just follow, follow all the comments all the way through which the Trump legal team did do certain extent. But they could have gone on for hours. They were smart. They made their points and they quit. House Democrats just had they all had to have their day in the sun and my final point. Is they put on? They put on a strong month, first day of the trial in by presenting evidence that I didn't have access to, so I learned a lot for state. They completely undermined their case. The second day when they came up with Raskin just doctrine in terms of how how you looking impeachment or I mean incitement, and the first one is wasn't predictable. I would say it wasn't I didn't see it. I wasn't afraid going to one's January 6 and quite honestly, I've never felt threatened on January 16 there, so they undermine their own argument, But it was not a trial. Was political theater. It was a show. It was a trial Ron Johnson that it should have been declared a mistrial before it started rather than waiting till the end. We should have just called it a mistrial before it started, and and you know, and I know and you've spoken passionately about this. Nobody. And I have seen I used to have a West wing office in the state capital here in Madison. I have seen more demonstrations in the next 100. People you could name and I've spoken in some of them. I've organized some of them. What So nobody realistic and nobody around us. You know, we condemn this breach and the loss of life. Don't read this. That's not what the question is, Is it? Going? We're consistent about it. Nothing. That's the other thing going through. My mind is just the hypocrisy of the Democrats who are calling to defund the police and also they're the best defenders of the law enforcement. Um, you know when you when you understand when you understood and heard their words about taking the fight to the streets No Thomas Harris and used right we're tackling about one of them have to leave the elevator alive. Out surprises. The president's defense team didn't point out that Hillary Clinton advice Joe Biden is never I mean, never concede the election. Of course, in my hearing on On the irregular examining irregulars 2020 election, which really was to sort of step meant to. First of all to show the truth, but confused situation Rick Scott As the senator kind of brought it forth his own testimony how Chuck Schumer sent his mark Alliance his attorney down there, who made the statement. We don't care what the voters said. We're gonna burn or overturn this election. Oh, and again. My final point on this part of the doctored evidence is when they showed a clip of Trump saying fight to the death. Like he was telling those the armed insurrection is to fight the death. No, he was saying, if the tables were turned, and this happened to a Democrat candidate, the Democrats would fight to the death. And of course, we had six months. Proof of Democrats inciting those protests, which turned into riots, which was billions of dollars of property loss, and I don't know how many dozen lost lives. The news media doesn't keep track of that. A swell asleep. Keep track what happened on January 6th. Well in one of the things that kinda has me. Kind of punching my forehead sometimes is the left. And the Democrats have been organizing sponsoring, encouraging these demonstrations in the Portland's and Seattle's and the Milwaukee's and the CA notions and all these different places across the country. Yet the trial The mistrial is about us. I mean, sometimes I'm punching my forehead going. How in the heck did we and I know this kind of thing frustrates you, too, is this They're the ones Guilty of tearing of cities and causing the kind of ma'am that we see. How is it that we end up here? Well because they won the election. That's why we have to win the next election, which is why we have to remain unified. And so in anybody who thinks the way forward with Republican Party is to purge the party Of all.

"Donald trump's lawyers say the impeachment case against him is an extension of a democratic witch hunt based on hatred and they're denying trump incited the capital right the defense says house prosecutors manipulated the then president's words to backers in a speech before the attack lawyer Michael Vander Veen says yes trump did tell them to fight like hell but so what politicians have said that for centuries and he showed a video of Democrats doing the same sparrows the homepod Chrissy and faults indignation but vanderveen ignored that the president's remarks that day and for weeks before were aimed at mobilising backers to undermine the election he falsely claimed was stolen Democrats like Maisie Rodo argue the president knew exactly what he was doing he had to have known that there will be violence they're prepared for violence and he just lit the match in an evenly divided Senate trump is all but certain to be acquitted in a vote as soon as tomorrow Sager mag ani Washington

Trump lawyers decry impeachment case as political vengeance

"Donald trump's lawyers have started his impeachment defense saying he had nothing to do with inciting the capital riot lawyer Michael Vander Veen borrowed from the ex-president's own familiar words calling the impeachment push another democratic witch hunt he told the Senate trump was entitled to dispute the election results and telling his backers at a pre right rally to fight like hell was not an incitement to insurrection to claim that the president in any way you wish desired or encourage lawless or violent behavior it's a preposterous and monster is lying prosecutors spent two days saying it's clear the rioters took trump's words as a presidential order to literally fight lawmakers who were certified his election loss the defense is expected to quickly end its case today at a vote could come this weekend Sager mag ani Washington

"Why Why do you The members of the House of Representatives. The majority of the House of Representatives. Why are they afraid of the very people that sent them to do this job? The people they hope will continue to send them back here. Why are they afraid that those same people who were smart enough to pick them as their congressmen aren't smart enough to pick Somebody. Who is a candidate for president of the United States. Why fear that the people will all of a sudden forget how to choose an administration in the next few years, And in fact, this happens all the time. When there are changes in administrations from one Term presidents to others. Well, Nixon was sort of 1.5 turn. But Nixon to Ford Ford, a card recorded a Reagan Bush 41 to Clinton. It happens. People get tired of an administration they don't want and they know how to change it. And they just did. So why? Think that They won't know how to do it in 2024. If they want to, or is that what the fear is? Is the fear that the people in 2024, in fact will want to change and we want to go? Actor Donald Trump. And not current occupant of the White House. President Biden Because all these other times the people were smart enough to do it. Choose who the president should be. And all these other times they smart enough to choose who they're members of Congress work and by the way, choose you all as well. They're not smart enough to know how to change. The administration. Specially since They just did. So it seems pretty evident to me that they do know how It has worked. 100% of the time. 100% of the time in the United States. When the people got had been fed up with and had enough of the occupant of the White House. They changed the occupant of the White House. Now. I know. That one of the strengths of this body Is Its deliberative action. And I saw Center mansion on the TV the other night. Talking about the filibuster. And the main point, Woz. That Senator Manchin was explaining to those of us who don't operate here all the time that this body has an obligation to try to reach consensus across the aisle. Legitimize the decisions that makes Obviously, he's capable of making His own pronouncements on it, but that's what it came across on the television. And I think that that is a good way of saying What? Why the Senate of the United States is different than other places. You know, the Constitution is a document designed to protect the rights of the minority, not the rights of the majority. Congress shall make no law abridging. All of these things. That's because those were the things that were Of concern. At the time. It's easy. Be in favor of liberty. Inequality. And Free speech. When it's popular. I think that I want to give my colleague Mr Sean, an opportunity to Explain to all of us the The legal Analysis on jurisdiction. I'll be quite frank with you. We changed what we were going to do on account that we thought that the House managers presentation was well done. And I wanted you to know that we have responses to those things. I thought that what the first part of the case was, which was the equivalent of a motion to dismiss was going to be about jurisdiction alone. And and one of the fellas who spoke for the House managers who was the former colonel defense attorney seemed to suggest that there's something nefarious that we were discussing jurisdiction and trying to get the case dismissed. But this is where it happens in the case. Because jurisdiction is the first thing that has to be found. We have a counter arguments to everything that they raised. And you will hear them later on in the case from Mr Van der Veen and from myself. But on the issue of jurisdiction Scholarly issue of jurisdiction. I'll leave you with this before I invite David to come up. And, uh, And give you the The area died explanation. Some of this was shown on the screen, but Article. One, Section three. Says judgments in cases of impeachment shall not extend further than two. Removal from office and comma and Disqualification toe hold any Office of Honor trust profit under the United States Colon But the party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to indictment, trial judgment and punishment according to law. So this idea of Of January. Amnesty is nonsense. If my colleagues on this side of the chamber Actually think that President Trump committed a criminal offenses. Let's understand a high crime is a felony and misdemeanor is a misdemeanor. The words haven't changed that much over the time. After he's out of office. You go on arrest him. So there is no opportunity where the president United States can run rampant in January the end of his term and just go away Scot free. The Department of Justice does nothing to Bruce Castor, the defense attorney, four former President Donald Trump during the second impeachment trial. You been listening to that for the last about 45 minutes or so. Here on K. What have you news radio Castor, among other things, has mentioned. Both Pennsylvania Senators Bob Casey and Pat Toomey also mentioned that the trial is happening because a majority in the House of Representatives quote Does not want to face Donald Trump as a political rival in the future. He also invoked the name of former attorney General Eric Holder. He he was talking up the sense of pride that senators have for the states they represent, including mentioning a former Illinois senator as he started off there, and he's continuing to try to make the case that the print that the former president did not incite the insurrection that occurred. At the Capitol Back on January 6th we get more from CBS News. CBS News Special report and his second impeachment trial. Former President Trump's defense team is making the argument that Mr Trump constitutionally cannot be tried since he's already left office and Bruce Castor also saying Mr Trump should not even be charged. We can't possibly be suggesting That we punish people for political speech in this country and if people go and commit lawless acts as a result of their beliefs. And they cross the line. They should be locked up. Earlier, the Democratic House manager said the case should proceed. Maryland Congressman Jamie Raskin our case. Is based on cold, hard facts. It's all about the fax. The vote is set by the end of the day, and most expect the Senate rule rule that the trial should proceed. CBS NEWS Special Report I'm Steve Futterman. We'll get a check on traffic and weather coming up after this. It's 3 50. Okay. YW news radio. "The law but nazi my netflix jets dr stephen cammarata from the center for immigration studies will probably helped me to get a little bit calmer although maybe not how you doing doc i been screaming and yelling for the last two hours after watching that ridiculous the show thing with the president and the members of congress yesterday and i just need a reality check so that's what you are four okay oh i mean uh you know w what what just happened did we just hear that we're going to get no enforcement until the dacca clean bill gets done no no richard crank it clearly decay uh the president uses terms that are not necessarily what you and i might think gulf so for example when he says a clean veen by daca standalone just daca is dean stock up plus the wall and um and and the other things that he wants to end the chain migration for example that's what it means just not lots of other stuff is he the theaters the president is politically inexperienced then so normally in washington when you say a clean bill give needs one thing that's not how he uses the term until at least one of these everyone i've talked to use that that's what he not by a clean bill it's clean bill is one that has the things that they want him what i want that's how he reasons it um so uh diet that is even used more comprehensive immigration they don't think it meant it doesn't mean wide uh good advocates in new york the democrats me it doesn't mean that the gang of eight gains get the democrats i mean yet this is people negative bell right it doesn't use it.
