"And there's also a judicial branch of the government is well. It actually has several different levels including judges a tribunal and appellate court and a supreme court. The law in vatican city is first and foremost the catholic churches canon law. But that really wasn't designed to be a legal system for territory in two thousand one. The fundamental law vatican city state was enacted which serves as the constitutional basis for the civil functioning of the vatican. This includes law from treaties at the holy see sign including money laundering and human trafficking. So despite the long history of this place called the vatican. The vatican city state is actually less than one hundred years old. It was a legal creation for the holy see to function independently nonetheless while it's very different than most countries it's still does have a few of the features which most independent countries exhibit producer of everything everywhere. "To creating vatican city the holy see recognize diddley and agreed to stay neutral international affairs. Italy also agreed to make a payment to the holy see in compensation for the loss of the papal states. The treaty specifies that vatican city is a new creation and not a vestige of the papal states which was officially dissolved to celebrate the treaty. Italian prime minister benito mussolini created the via della conciliatory oni. Which is the wide boulevard directly in front of saint peter's square so officially then. Vatican city has an area of one hundred and twenty-one acres the citizens of attock city number eight hundred and twenty five people as of two thousand nine hundred that includes four hundred and fifty three residents in three hundred. Seventy two diplomats residing outside of the vatican a total of about eight hundred people live in the vatican although not all our citizens that it can citizenship is given to those who worked for the vatican members of the swiss guard are given citizenship as are their families. There are two types of passports which are given out. Diplomats are issued passports from the holy see family members and other non diplomats are issued vatican city passports that can passports are in italian french and english whereas holy. Cpi sports are in latin french english. Unlike most countries vatican citizenship is only by appointment. You cannot get it by blood or by being born there. Anyone who has their vatican citizenship revoked if they have no other citizenship automatically become citizens of italy. Vatican city has no official language however the working language is italian and official documents are inland. The swiss guard being swiss use wisdom as their working language because of its small size. If it's ever on a list of countries it's usually a statistical outlier so it's usually left off. The vatican technically would have the highest crime rate in the world due to the number of pickpockets and personnel which occurred saint peter's square likewise they have the highest wine consumption per capita in the world. They also have the most popes per square mile. Given the small size they actually average five popes per square mile. Not including former.

"Say that vatican city is unlike any other country in. The world is really a massive understatement. It's extremely small. Obviously it's an absolute monarchy but the monarch is elected. Everyone in the country was born somewhere else and has citizenship somewhere else. Including the leader of the country. In several episodes. I've touched upon the papacy in many of those stories. We'll have some in the roman empire. Whoever the story of vatican city really starts in the nineteenth century prior to vatican city there was a thing called the papal states among all the kingdoms and republics in italy there was a swatch of land in the middle of italy which was ruled by the pope. In addition to providing income for the papacy it also provided independence for the pope from the rest of the rulers in europe so long as the pope had his plot of land. Didn't have to worry about kings trying to influence. The situation changed in the nineteenth century. When italy began to unify all of the smaller entities got merged into the new greater italy in eighteen. Seventy rome itself was taken over and the pope lost the last of territorial sovereignty in may eighteen seventy one. Italy passed a law of guarantees which tried to make. The pope is citizen of italy but also allowed them to have ambassadors and other honors. The catch was the pope would not be an independent sovereign. This was rejected by pope leo the thirteenth and began a period of sixty years. Or the pope's never left the vatican leo the thirteenth and subsequent popes call themselves prisoners in the vatican three subsequent. Popes were elected and then died behind the walls of the vatican without ever leaving its grounds. This became known in diplomatic circles as the roman question. During this period countries kept sending ambassadors emissaries to the holy see and here is where. I have to explain the biggest difference between the vatican and every other country the holy see the holy see is an institution the papacy in the catholic church. A c. spelled s. is a name for a diocese or the area which has oversight by a bishop the holy see is just the name for the diocese of rome. The holy see runs vatican city but vatican city is not the holy.

"We were all destined to be joe. Chd an costanza everlasting destruction. So who come be confidence and before who sinister in no position to be confidence in themselves but rather to beg for their salvation yet despite this some of them still judge on their own fallacious thoughts and persecute christians. This is completely wrong. They are the ones who must repent the world's most indeed kneel before us the world must kneel before also who have the true faith in god. Sinuous us to teach them the truth. They must ask does not suffer sake them. That's because if we say them they will face destruction for shore but we have nots for sekine them. What's his tragic is that they just don't know the lord who has saved us. That's why we must spread this good news the world because we are indebted to jesus for his lawf- we have the duty to do so no matter what kind of persecution we face we must realize that people persecutors not because they have the right to do so nor because we deserve to be persecuted. But because they do not realize what they are doing we must therefore carry out our work on wavering gli and preach the gospel even to them. We must continue to shout to the world to believe in. Jesus there are some people who come descend on us just because we have faith in god. There is no need for os to show humility to search people. It's not wrong to believe. In jesus on the contrary what is wrong is the mindset of those who are persecuting goes the true believers in jesus. They mistakenly thing that they are powerful. Tragically even many christians in the world. Still have this mindset and actually act like this when such people become afraid of their judgments. They suddenly claimed to believe in jesus singing hymns and hanging across around their necks. A call on the name of jesus and believe in him. Only outs of convenience is not really knowing and in jesus as one savior to know and believe that jesus has saved us through the gospel of the water and the spirit is to truly believe in jesus but many non-believers including christians don't even want to find out about this and instead tried to find faults with everything we do. There have always been p polite. This now is in the past. The people of the world join. The age of the roman empire persecuted christians to the streams. The cruelty of this persecution was beyond description. The roman empire that had ruled the world with its secular power was corrupted from within. And it's eventually came to a crossroads facing its ruined. It accepted christianity that it's had persecuted. Don't sell then as the state's religion it did so because it thought the only way to ensure its survival was to accept christians and their faith and way of life constant sign. The greats was the one who adopted this policy when the roman empire fragments it into the eastern roman empire on the western roman empire. The romans declared christianity as the state religion and sought to reform but ultimately it was destroyed mainly by itself but despite this the roman catholic church survived and it cordola secure a small states called vatican city that is now ruled by the pope..

After lobbying, Catholic Church won $1.4 billion in virus aid

"By now, big companies politically connected cos. Cashing in on the massive federal rescue package that was designed to help small businesses whether economic devastation wreaked by the Corona virus pandemic. Today. We are learning courtesy of The Associated Press that the US Roman Catholic Church manage to secure billions of dollars in loans from that rescue package through the Paycheck protection program. Reporter Michael Risen. D's has been reporting on the Catholic Church for a long time. He is one of the reporters who has been crunching these numbers and trying to track where that money is going. Hey there. How are you? Hey, not so bad. Nice to Beecher. How much money Exactly are we talking about? Well what? What? What I and my colleague re stunk Lin identified and I got to really give a shadow to Reese here because he's a great date a reporter, But we were able to identify between $1.4 billion a cz Muchas 3.5 billion and the reason there's a range here is because the small business administration did not release precise loan amounts. They only released ranges of loans. Oh, and we identified 35 3500 loans worth between 1.4 billion and 3.5 billion. OK, so a huge range, but we are talking upward of a 1,000,000,000. That's 1,000,000,000 with a B. It's a lot of money. How how has it been spent? Well, it's been spent as far as we know. We don't have Ah, very clear accounting. I have to say, as usual from the Catholic Church on precisely how the money is being spent. Where assured it's being spent for for payroll and utilities keeping people employed. But I have to say there is no monitoring of this program. It's self monitoring itself. Certification. So we don't actually know for sure. Do we know for sure whether any of it has been devoted to to help cover past gaps in the finances? Um and I will note that many Catholic diocese were in really bad financial shape going into the pandemic because they had to pay out these big settlements to victims of clergy sexual abuse. Does that factor into how any of this rescue money is being spent at all? Or do we know? Well, this is one of the points we made in our story Is that a lot of this money eyes going to diocese that might be experiencing financial stress not so much because of the corona virus pandemic, but because of the large payouts they've had to make to clergy abuse survivors, sometimes in the hundreds of millions of dollars. You never hear much about these payments. You do hear a lot about supposed stress from the pandemic, And I think a lot of that stresses Israel, but in effect, I think what's happening here is you're seeing Churches who are stressed financially because of clergy sex abuse, getting a break through the federal government through through direct payments from the federal government that are being used to pay actually the salaries of priests and ministers, which is unprecedented. As we noted, this money was supposed to help small businesses. The Catholic Church is not a small business how to church leaders defend us. Well, I think the first thing that happened is because of the downturn in the economy was so severe. I think the government wanted to just get a lot of money out there. So there was an exception made. For religious groups they could they could. They could apply like any small business. But then what happened is there was a second break that religion's got and the second break. Is that they were exempted from the rule that says that on ly small businesses, Khun get the loans, and the small businesses are defined by businesses with 500 employees, and that includes the employees and all of their subsidiaries. So we find now that religious groups are exempt from that rule, And that's why, for example, 80 churches, parishes in the same diocese can apply, and that's why The church was able to get so many loans and so much money and you know, I'd like to say that even though we identified between 1.4 billion and 3.5 billion We know that's an undercount. We know we were not able to identify all the loan. So the the money is really quite large. We just have a minute or so left. But do we know whether other religious institutions did other churches get this benefit? Or was this just the U. S Catholic Church? No. All religions got this benefit Thie Catholic Church, of course, is very A large organization. This is a This is a global religion that is headquartered in Rome. It is its own country. In fact, it's headquartered in Vatican City. It so its own nation. It's very time consuming toe. Identify exactly who was giving these loans we know now. So we have We have a pretty good idea of what the Catholic Church got other religions did benefit. I can't give you those numbers right now. The data was just released this week. All right, well, we'll look forward to when you come back and tell us when you've dug through the rest of it. Thank you so much for sharing your reporting today. My pleasure. Birth of the Urban Legend

"Today I am going to take a look. At myths and one in particular that is huge a myth that is regarded debated by perhaps perhaps millions of people and it starts in Rome. No one could talk about the Catholic. Church without mentioning. Vatican City. Balance City is an independent city state within Rome. Italy is under full ownership sovereign authority and jurisdiction of the holy. See the area that occupies represents the smallest city state in the world coming in at one hundred ten acres with a population of about a thousand. It is ruled by a type of theocracy minister by the pope while the Holy See dates back to earliest Christianity. The Independent Vatican City state on the other hand didn't come into existence until February. The Eleventh Nineteen Twenty nine this is different from the papal that occupy most of Italy from seven fifty six to eighteen seventy. The Vatican walls were built to keep out pirates during the ninth century. Pirates were pillaging much of southern Italy when they sacked. Saint Peter's in eight forty. Six Pope Leo. The fourth decided he needed a little extra protection. A thirty nine foot wall was constructed around Leone City. An area which included the current Vatican's territory gradually when the threat receded. Many gates were opened in the walls. It was shortly after the wall was built but no connection. Eight fifty five to eight fifty eight that a new pope came into power. The story goes that a lady pontiff rained for a brief time in the ninth century. Disres- was a young woman who disguised herself as a man and entered religious training distinguishing herself as a scholar. She rose through the church ranks and elected Pope John. Eight the year eight five. She went onto rule for two years. Her gender always concealed but he flowery holy robes. Her secret was only revealed. Eight fifty eight when she unexpectedly went into Labor during a papal procession. Some accounts say she died in childbirth while others claim that her and raged followers dragged her behind a horse and stoned to death. Either would've been an appropriate response for the Times before you scoff at the idea of a female pope. Let me lay out some facts. The story of a female pope surfaced in the thirteenth century. Chronicles written by a couple of Dominican Friars then in the fourteenth century. She was mentioned in a book about famous women. Her image eventually graced paintings sculptures and Tarot cards for a short time. She was included in a collection of papal bus in. Italy's CNN Cathedral. Some historians dismissed Pope Joan as a myth that we go. Here's our myth citing that her supposed rain overlaps Pope Leo fourth and Pope Benedict third. Some scholars believe that she was had been expunged from the church history. One ancient scholar provides her nationality place of birth length of her pontificate as two years. Seven months and four days. Then there are some who say she didn't die immediately after giving birth instead she was deposed after her confinement and did penance for many years after her death she was buried in. Estonia were her son held the Office of Bishop generally today all sources a pope. Joan are thought to be nothing more than an urban legend yet. There are hints of a female Pope's existence in both art and architecture on the pillars and Saint Peter's basilica in Vatican City seven sculptures showing a woman's facial expression while going into labor can be found but wait in the oldest surviving com copy of the pump typical the official book of biographies of Popes during the early Middle Ages Pope Benedict. The third is missing completely then are medieval coins that show the likeness of Pope Jonas Elias. Yes there are and this is suggesting that she may indeed have existed. Science had proved that these coins are not fake when archaeological find has documents that Pope Joon US crown. Louis the second of as a holy Roman emperor eight fifty six. Although the available evidence seems to cast some doubts regarding the existence of Pope John. It is likely that some would continue to believe that this figure was real whether it's a piece of fiction or history detail. Pope Joan will most likely on until absolute physical documentation surface. It finally and the

"On Sunday. That says for Peter's Pence. How does that and pain for the pope's armed armed guards or cleaning up the streets or things like that things? That aren't what they're supposed to go to. And I. I assume a lot of Catholics. Alex would ask the same question. I I'm sure that churches in general one it's not just because their tax exempt but that probably is part of it too. Do you know what accountability do they have to regular Catholics people who donate people that are making this organization in functional. Yeah I mean I don't know I mean presumably. That sounds pretty dishonest to me. Unless there's like an asterisk on the donation form that says if if we need to will use this money to other funds I you know otherwise without a disclaimer. Like that it would seem to be pretty dishonest and false advertising. I think people should rightfully be upset. How many of them are upset? I don't know how this news came out. I'm also not sure as well. Somebody must have leaked this this information right because churches at least in the US have financial privacy. They don't have to release now. May Not be the case in in Europe. But they don't have to release their books that's true the Journal citing people familiar with the funds. You said that. The assets of Peter's pence have dwindled since Francis became pope in two thousand thirteen from more than seventy seven hundred and seventy five million to to about six hundred sixty five million. Meanwhile the Holy See's deficit in two thousand eighteen doubled to more than seventy six million billion dollars on a budget of around three hundred. Thirty three million. So is that the budget for the Vatican City the Three hundred thirty three million dollars that they're in the whole I don't know I don't know but that's half six hundred sixty six.

Scientologists buy dozens of properties in Clearwater, Florida

"Clearwater Florida there's been a quiet series of land purchases over the last three years a hundred and three million dollars worth made by the church of Scientology and its pressures a doubling of the church's footprint near its international headquarters that's the findings of a story in the Tampa Bay times it's headlined clear takeover trees McManus is a Scientology reporter for the paper she joins us now welcome hi Lou thank you for having us explain to me why the the paper hasn't Scientology reporter I mean how big is the church of Scientology where you are yeah that's a good question I think it's comparable to save it's kind of like if there were to be about again reporter in Vatican City we believe it's important to shed light on a powerful institution that's very controversial and plays a big role in our community so tell me about these land purchases can you give me a sense of the scale and how they we have have made this happen with the relatively little fanfare over the years it kind of started in early twenty seventeen we reported at that time that a handful of limited liability companies bought about six downtown properties and Scientology leader David Miscavige had presented a retail plan to to city staff officials and he was going to build an entertainment complex with Tom Cruise and he was going to recruit high and retail to some of the empty store fronts because downtown clear waters pretty depressed so we kept our eye on the downtown purchases once we dug into the data and pulled records we found that LLC is tied to the church of Scientology had bought about one hundred properties and the properties cover about one hundred acres and it's all surrounding the city's downtown waterfront who they buying from and how and how much are they offering brokers representing these companies were approaching downtown property owners many of the properties weren't listed for sale and our analysis found that these church officials were offering two three four times what the property appraiser said the properties were valued so clearly they wanted these properties a great deal why does this matter well our reporting shows that Scientology has a big interest in preserving its downtown campus flag is what they call it and it's the international spiritual headquarters of the church and it's also basically that financial nucleus of the entire organization there's prisoners that come here from all over the world to take courses in high level auditing that's not offered anywhere else the other side of that is flight is run by the sea org Scientology's full time work force these workers signed billion year contracts are paid very little work around the clock and Scientology has an interest in keeping that insulated according to former executives that we've interviewed what you mean billion year contracts the reason Scientology has such an outsized influence is because of the the cash and assets it has which is estimated to be three billion dollars part of the reason for that is because they have this sea org that works full time and is paid less than fifty dollars a week they keep their operations it's the type of servitude yes exactly and I guess the larger concern is that this could really thwart the city's plans for redevelopment if the Scientologists organizations are are going to have all this property that they're gonna keep for their own purposes right because the city officials have said that there's only so many factors they control one of the factors they do control is the waterfront land that's protected by city charter that they are in the middle of a sixty four million dollar plan right now to re design and develop into a park with gardens and a concert venue businesses might see this city project and say yeah let me take a chance on downtown and open up a business but now these LLC's tied to Scientology control the retail district they have control over what businesses of any come in what is the view of the local community I mean do they view it as helpful for the community at large to have a major religious organizations centered in their town or not you know Lou I spit from my reporting I've learned that there's a lot of mistrust and suspicion still in the community when it comes to Scientology because a lot of the residents here were living in the city one Scientology arrived in the seventies and they remember the tactics Scientology use just out of curiosity when you see the tactics that they use in the seventies what what were those Scientology arrive in downtown Clearwater nineteen seventy five they came in under a fake name to buy the fort Harrison hotel a historic hotel right in the center of downtown and the mayor at the time gave stars really raise the alarm he demanded to see their financials our board of directors he publicly asked why they were security cards with Billy clubs and mace on the roof and in nineteen seventy seven the FBI raided Scientology's had orders in LA in DC and then covered hundreds of thousands of memos and documents and inside those findings was a plan that Scientology operatives had had created and written to establish area control and the tactics they were using to establish Kerry control included infiltration spying smearing and a means it was a very turbulent time so the fact that the church is now buying up these properties through proxy organizations would maybe bring some alarm bells for the community because of what what has happened in the past yeah I think that the key here is the uncertainty we don't know what they're planning to do with the property is a lot of them are vacant lots vacant buildings empty storefronts we don't know if they're just going to continue to squat on them because they haven't done anything yet they haven't submitted redevelopment plans they haven't started construction or are they going to redevelop them and bring businesses and and contribute to a vibrant downtown

"Very happy to have a David Mickelson if you don't recognize that name you will likely recognize the site that he created and runs it's called slopes slopes dot com and I think we all Oh David a great debt of gratitude thank you thank you for being here you're welcome thanks for having me for being on owner Rossen Kerry today's just Ross ended and our friend Spencer and Charles were here at Sei con twenty nine thousand nine you've been to either this conference before similar ones way back when the amazing meeting being used to go to I probably passed in the hallways and they had no idea that you were the one solving all of my online battles actually I used to go with a friend of mine who lived here in Vegas and we thought US kind of Bari Pie be more interesting to go to the other side and go to the UFO convention and the vicar convention what the true believer Oh you're talking my language well that's what I do with the other skeptical crowd rather than the Arthur's or what have you so maybe WanNa join us on a future investigation or something let's tell our audience a bit about slopes in case for some reason they don't know I don't know what working to hide under for the past twenty five years or how to have not heard of snow but you started in the year of the lion king that's how I see nineteen ninety-four IC- yet what got snow going what started this I wish I could claim I had the foresight twenty five years ago to recognize you know the Internet thing fake news going to be a big problem come the twenty first century so I'm going to get a head start on it but no Not really that visionary it was just kind of a hobby that got out of control I worked for a very large computer company so you're kind of hooked in the Internet before most people had heard of the Internet back in the old ninety ninety four that's the very early days people are on netscape navigator for in back in the the usenet newsgroup days and there were no blogs even at that point no search engines no youtube yeah yeah alter Vista Dog pile of the company that made Alta this over really is okay I'm letting people go back K. situate themselves were in nineteen ninety four the Big Bang theory episode whether the doing favorite nonexistent search engine if I'd been involved in newsgroups about urban legends Disney and when the first graphical browser came out from Wola SORTA started writing up little Disney related urban legends okay this is kind of fun because carry my co host her other podcasts is called hit Mickey's and she talks about the deep seedy underbelly of Disney and did very investigation of the rumors around Waltz head it turns out he actually was interested in cryogenics but he didn't have his head frozen or any part of him actually that was one of the first investigations we realtors going out to force lawn and actually photographing the burial site or at least the martyr they are for anyone who wasn't able to access the -Fornia or Glendale at least give them a vision of of his grave and kiddingly trying to round up people on the Internet Tawhid in Forest Lawn overnight off the spot exactly what was this is the deep kind of investigative digging that's nope isn't even before it snaps and so I talked about with you before you know it kind of like figuring out a way to get into club thirty three the big mystery because it wasn't only Internet I just sort of you know the the basketball court in the matter homer and all those sorts I have been in there all the the hidden supposedly hidden risque stuff in Disney movies that's really where snow started a house and then when I ran through all the Disney legends I could think of branched out into different categories and then my wife the time started chipping in intending it to be kind of like a Wikipedia for Urban Legend Yeah not with the wikki part of everyone editing of it just sort of this authoritative Encyclopedia Urban Legends that's why it was originally called the wheel the urban legends reference phages and urban reference or legend Urban Legends Reverend pages right earlier yeah that doesn't roll off the time that does not I'm going to work so hard not to go down the rabbit hole of wanting to talk about Disney civic stopped I worked for Disney to mention working for big companies and love that kind of history so we'll talk about it some other time other podcasts so quickly took a left turn because as we were just discussing this was way back before search engines even yacht who was hand compiled yet just in index directories of websites did you get on that index but notes all word of mouth really kind of quickly became this place where everybody emailed anything questionable they came across on the internet or even in the real world and so it was all dying children trying to collect the the largest number of business cards birthday cards at Christmas cards and lots of computer virus warnings many which were hoaxes and missing dialed appeals many of which were hoax is you know before they were kind of clearing houses for all that stuff right now that was and there was no wikipedia the time so so which came first kind of the website format or the name snow pts well I started using the name snowpacks way back in the pre webbed as okay or yeah once the origin of this term slopes is the name of a family of characters that appear throughout the works of William Faulkner I'll and that has absolutely nothing to do with anything other than just way back when I was familiar with falters work so I doc named my cats nope site had personalized plate that said snowpacks and so my college roommate's called me that and when I started posting on the old newsgroups on the Internet the Stott there's you know whatever twenty million David's out there who's going to remember David I need like uh-huh Dinette so using snow pts and it really just were doubt fortuitously now it's become a verb yeah it's kind of like is Amazon Gogol it's short it's catchy distinguishes us from competitors 'cause everybody else in our spaces fact something or something check or something and we're the ones who are not yet we did a similar thing at least with our podcast is called owner Rawson Kerry because there's no indication from the name itself what the podcast about so slopes itself at least has just become a household name so okay so it wasn't anything to do with snoops the character from the rescuers which is what what my crazy conspiracy believing cousin Catherine calls it she snoops we actually did once getting Anki irate email from someone who threatened to report us to the Faulkner Foundation or so really not realizing that there are a number of people the world who actually have the surname snow he invented it's not like we called ourselves Sherlock Holmes or something as soon as you settle with me those families then you can come after me that's funny it reminds me of I think goes Murray Gelman who named the quirk after a James Joyce Reference yeah three quirks for muster mark so he made that his new particle name anyway will you know what to step back even a little bit farther again let's say somebody at this point is still not familiar with slopes haven't been there what's the basic format so you come to snaps if you've heard an urban legend or someone shares a claim that could be true or false yes and they get to see synopsis telling them either it's true it's false it's mostly falls somewhere in between and then an explanation right yes about we're doing these days unfortunately as political that's what's consuming everyone in the era of fake news and Yeah and Post Truth and all of that as lawyer work is cut out for him yeah so you you know someone's forty you this screed about some company is funding you know genocide eight of gay people in some African country or just something that sounds really horrible are hard to believe or you know Nancy Pelosi is going to become vice president trump resigns or some vaccine question right and so then somebody just has to add on their online debate forum while the to do is go to another tab and just type in snoops and then that key phrase that company and they get a handy article they read it very quickly and then instead of them having to do a ton of re research and share it with their crazy cousin they just copy the link and say please go read this note article so early on how many of the articles were you writing was it all you are did you have writers from the beginning at the very beginning when it started it was just me road all the Disney stuff the first few categories as I said than my wife at the time Barbara started chipping in in writing but said we started this back in nineteen ninety four it wasn't until twenty years later Haute very recently relatively recently back to doing it on my own and one of hired a couple of contract writers and then as the twenty sixteen election proved to be the most contentious in US history roundup with more more writers or editors so maybe you can help me out is it true that the pope endorsed Donald Trump for president. it's not true yes not wanna Vatican City as yeah how how do you differentiate all of this language around fake news versus is hoax or parodies how do you kind of internally classify all these things well one is we we avoid the USA fake news really now just because it's been completely co opted practically meaningless us like urban legend used to be just a a synonym for false or anything that you neal's they don't lie leave just call it fake news and also news doesn't have to be fake to be Eh misleading like you can create a one hundred percent accurate article only tells one side of a story you know it's like imagine a criminal trial where the prosecution put on a case of just stop there and it went to the jury the lies by omission yeah it'd be highly misleading so fake doesn't cover it all so we're still kind of calling it junk news item apparently our president has moved onto corrupt news media yes we're not quite calling it that yet tell me a bit about your process first of all how does an idea become eligible force a bunch of people submitting forms online saying please is a settle this for me or is it something you take interest in now our topic selection methodology is we tackle whatever the most people are asking about her questioning at a given time we do that through a variety of metrics what people are emailing us what the searching for on our site what's trending on Google what people are posting on our facebook pages what's what's on the front page of read it kind of there's a whole lot of inputs that gets synthesized and we don't make any judgments about the stuff is too silly or CBS or unimportant rust cover you let the interest level Kinda dictate house exactly sometimes it's kind of distressing but people are interested in to the exclusion of things are actually more substantial or important subjects to a lot of criticism where people complain you were debunking obvious satire must be there's nothing obvious out there and if we're if we're writing about it it's a whole lot of people had ask about it because they didn't get it will

"Is this Schnitt show? Come on the air with this horrific scene at a Paris. Welcome Schnitt here on a Monday in the plants today were talking about tax day and the mullahs report the redacted version coming out on Thursday, all color coded. And of course, the continuing saga with Ilhan, Omar. And you know, her, you know, so called the victimization here a lot of stuff on the table already. And then we have this this this nightmare. We've got this this horrific scene and Paris and the burning and near destruction of the cathedral of Notre Dom. Now, I consider myself fortunate enough, I have been to France, I've been to Paris I have been to the cathedral. I've been inside Notre Dom. And it is phenomenal. I've also been to the Vatican three times in Roman in Vatican City and Notre dumb is essentially. Saint Peter's basilica to Paris. I mean, it is an amazingly historic building its beauty. It's architecture the priceless religious artifacts inside was by. No means an expert on Catholocism by no means an expert on Catholic churches around the world. But I have been to. In in London in Paris in France in in enroll Vatican. I I've been to a lot of these buildings, and they are awesome. I mean, you stand there you look. And you just breathe it all in in all and now as we embark on Easter week. And of course, Good Friday coming up and Easter Sunday coming up this Sunday to have one of the largest symbols of at least, the Catholic architecture on the planet to have it virtually destroyed. I I'm watching a wall video here, folks. And it is just unbelievable. Trying to fathom the the enormity of what has happened in Paris. Now, it looks like it's a little after nine o'clock eastern. So it's a free o'clock here on the east. It's a little bit after nine o'clock in Paris right now, again, just trying to this take in the scope of this. And again, we'll we'll shift the trajectory just. The Ted here and talk about what we know will grab some of your phone calls if you are a Catholic, and of course, as we are just days away from Easter Sunday. And of course, Good Friday, your thoughts, if you're a Catholic or non Catholic I'd like to take your phone calls here as we're watching this unbelievable tragedy on full at this point. We have no news on injuries reports are the fire broke out just after the cathedral just after Notre Dom closed to tourists and tour groups for the day. And again at this point, we have no word of any injuries. So if no one has been injured or nobody has been killed, and obviously that's an extreme positive here. But the building. As we know it is done the building as we know it has. Been destroyed. You know, the front, I guess, we call it. The the edifice that the front of the building remains standing, but the bulk of this building the interior of the roof of Pierce collapsed. There is video being played over and over and over again, it's on social media a reporter with AFP, which is the French press agency, which is assaults frauds press. A reporter took video of the actual famous spire of Notre dumb collapsing. And that videos on on Twitter. I saw it's also being rebroadcast on cable news as we speak. The number here on Schmidt is eight hundred eight zero one eighty nine ninety nine eight hundred eight zero one eighty nine ninety nine I'm getting sent messages I've got emails coming in. I it's just trying to take all this in and the cause of the fire. Let me get threaten the second. Hold on got. I've got messages from producers all kinds of stuff coming in here that I want to just digest for a second. And because something fed, you know, new information. Essential breaking news here. Like, so what we know is that Notre dumb? Has been undergoing a revitalization. It's been undergoing a restoration project. And there has been a lot of scaffolding up on the roof and around portions of Notre Dom, and it appears that the fire broke out in the roof in inside of the scaffolding area. So you know, one would think that this could be a construction accident. I mean, this does happen. I remember there was roofing work being done. I mean, not the compare this building to Notre Dom. But I remember at one of the big hotels in Las Vegas. There was roofing being done. And it was a huge fire was the Monte Carlo one of the hotels in Vegas, maybe ten years ago, or so I there have been other construction accidents with where this there's another incident I think of semi significance or I'm trying to recall where roofing materials also set. A building on this does happen. So again, I if this was caused by the construction by the restoration of Notre Dame will the irony there, obviously is beyond description beyond words that here you try to restore and you end up destroying this what eight hundred fifty year old building. And certainly one of the landmark Catholic churches on planet earth, which is virtually destroyed. And again, what is inside were. They able to a save artifacts. We don't know what happened underneath essentially Notre dumb is award shell inside. It's a wooden construction. I should say the shell is is the stone that you see? But inside as I've quickly done some research on the construction, it's it's really a wood frame and a wood interior that has surrounded by a stone. Shell. And you know that old. I mean, you got to be dealing with essentially kindling here an extremely brittle and dry would. I don't know what the fire suppression systems are inside Notre Dom or if they had sprinkler systems, but this blaze folks, I it looked to be out of control and completely not under any control for a couple of hours. And in fact, it looked like the fire was bidding to die down. And then the fire seemed to grow even greater than we saw the spire collapsed again the response. The response from firefighters also appears to have been slow slowed by a traffic, and the fact that the the geography of Notre Dame where it is. It's it's not. Remarkably easy to get the chokepoints. But it seemed that Harris firefighters it seemed that they took a long time to be able to get to this fire to begin dousing the cathedral. With water, which is another curiosity here. And now you got to wonder what is the fire plan? I mean what what training has been done. And and what systems in place in in the case, you'd have something like this occur. So, you know, slow response. And of course, the fire breaking out during rush hour in Paris. You know, these are all head scratchers. I mean, there are a lot of questions, obviously. So, you know, the restoration process again on the roof around the spire, it seems and on the rear of Notre Dom is where some of this restoration was was occurring reports that I was digging up as I was quickly scrambling to figure out what the construction project was. There was a an issue that was noticed where there were some cracks were discovered in the facade of Notre Dame. So I would imagine that this project was the prior to shore up some of the cracking in the facade of Notre Dom. You know, you look at the the number of people, and this is an unending tourist attraction for the country of France for the city of Paris. You know, I I don't know what draws more people the Eiffel tower or Notre Dom. But they must be very close at this. Notre dot might even actually get more tourists. I saw some numbers that about thirteen million people year. Visit Notre Dom and per day it somewhere between thirty and fifty thousand people per day. And again, doing some quick research, the structure all what an interior with that stone shell and here we are Easter week, which is just the horrific timing here. And of course. His building of remarkable religious importance virtually destroyed again the front of the church. I guess you call it the the front of the church, which is primarily stone. That's still standing but behind. Disappears at the whole roof has collapsed. Then you gotta wonder again about the priceless artifacts religious artifacts. And paintings and sculpture. And I mean, really unbelievable..

"War. Rumors of war. Violates after wins. Okay. People were saying. I'm going to say, let's seek for guy. Let's send these people to do you because God is upset with us. Industrial. Enforcing off a day. We should clarify Duff's. When Sunday worshipping won't be the market a mix. Okay. When it is endorsed by law. Nobody's receiving yet. Right. I want to leave that. I have been charged any time. I'm sure you'll be charge. Don't we appreciate our afraid of Jellicoe frames and Catholics are receiving. We never say. Not receive yet. Why? Has not been enforced by law yet nationally, but when? That day. We'll be enforced. Revelation thirteen. Each going to be democracy does the bible describe if somebody else doesn't see what did the decision is going to be applied to them. You know, God is not going to allow them to be sealed with the seasons right now until the the position is made known on a national level. And the discussion is all in people's faces in ears, and they have an opportunity to know what is right to to be able to choose. Right. So when they choose wrong when that thing is nationally known and nationally enforce then God will seal them with their decision. Either the Markle to be so either the seal of my question is very close to what you say shoot people wait to see a nationalist tomato. This. Because. Crisis. We will reveal the character that we have. And so right now in this time we can prepare ourselves we can build our character in making this decision now. Yeah. Human beings are strong strong. We're we're creatures of habits. And so we have to do things over and over. So that we can be established in them. So it's going to be very tough for someone to deny deny deny. And then at that time all of a sudden they make a completely different decision. So now is the best time to obey God. Yes. This sabatini. This Sunday a choice can be made. Will you obey God and keep his commandments or follow man? And keep a tradition of me. I was gonna say. Because if we know the truth of this, so. And with this. We are. Yeah. Spirit is knocking at the door. Because I have heard people say, well, I waited until I see the national. Who is not you. That's right. You're going to be alive. Yeah. Who's gonna be you? That you're going to have the fortitude to go against everything that you stood for everything that you did for before. And I will help him so many people you having we have to help so many people to tell them. Before he's happy and you to release it. God's given. You those opportunity for you to a race truth because it is good to follow too. That's another thing too. Another thing too. Truth is what sanctified us. The bible says that all the commandments of truth. That's right. Some one thousand nine hundred fifty one fifty one all the commandments. So if we want to certify life, we embrace truth. That's right. Totally brace. Was was created by man. There's not gonna satisfy you. Proverb says we should not follow a multitude to evil. That's right. So. Revelation thirteen is describing then the love like country goes yawn. And the two horns. Two. Power of this nation, religious and civil liberty. Have we seen those two power being closer and closer you speak? Absolutely. He will be verse. Fourteen says, he deceived them that well on the earth, and that phrase dwell on the earth is repeated now several times in chapter thirteen. It means those whose minds are focused on the earth. He deceived them that dwell on the earth by means of those miracles which he had power to do in the side of the beast and since one thousand nine hundred eighty four when Reagan Senate embassador to Vatican City for the first time in Vatican City Senate sent ambassador to the United States everything's being done in the side of the beast. And he will here's we will work miracles power to do on the side of the be saying to them that dwell on the earth, but they should make an image to the beast, and image is something that looks like the beach the beach is the Roman Catholic church, which is a union of church and state. Vatican City is a country, and it also represents a church, and so the United States will make an image of the beast or union of church and state here in America. Bu but this time with apostate Protestantism leading up. So it's as the day should make an image of the beast, which had the wound by a sword and did live. So there will be a union of church and state here in America. And the flag of that. Image. That entity will be enforced Sunday worship. And just to emphasize what he's saying from the bible is saying here in this nation. This nation is not a Catholic nation, but this nation has been dominated by Protestant. Denominations. So it is the Protestants or the non Catholics that are going to push the government to enforce religious laws, thus making an image to the Roman beasts because they have done this throughout the history images something that looks like from thing. Like if I look in the mirror, and I look at myself in the mirror what I'm looking at an image of myself. It's not really me. But it's an image of me sold the Protestants or the non-catholics will look like the Roman church of old when they begin to enforce religious laws upon the legislators of this nation. Now, this is already been taking place. They have already infect formed an image. They have looked like Ron they've already tried to get legislators to pass their religious laws. So we are living in a time of fulfilling prophecy now praise God it has not passed the market obese has not passed yet. But we are living in a time where these things can take place you talking about the eighteen eighty eight eight hundred eighty nine. Yes, sir. Can you? Can you tell us what can you tell us? What was taking place right here in this nation. Eighteen eighty eighty getting what what kind of that time? There was a movement to close the world's fair on Sunday and establish a Sunday line. And it was fought by the. Davidge religious liberty department and in different states, Tennessee and Arkansas people were jailed for for keeping the Sabbath and for breaking Sunday by working on Sundays. You was brought to congress and there were about to pass. National sunday. It was actually a Bill a Bill, right? I forgot the name whoever introduced appeal. But there was a Bill that was introduced Blair Blair played by cuts grace. It was hope hold on till bag was held back. Right. Took this history. What we're talking about in America. That's right. Okay. Right in in that Bill. It actually did say for religious worship. It actually did say they're a gentleman named AT Jones. He addressed congress two hundred questions that and the Lord gave him such Polly eloquently answered them all and it did not pass now in eight in early eighteen nineties, though, the world fear comes on the scene eighteen hundred ninety two that's exactly what they in Chicago. And so eighty Jones goes back to the US capitol to talk to them about it in the president says, I don't care what you say. I'm not listening to now we are going to close the fair on Sundays. You know, what he said to please the Protestants in the nation. There's another. They should ask. Right. That's why wounds came up. The came. You guys you're defending the date of. That's right. You say that your them the church of the loan. Look what you're doing. You're doing our bit. And you're doing all they've made an image. Dave. Was only in a little the little symbolic sorta speak because the big the real image is going to be in the wedding. How do we know that because the bible speak about God's mercy? I love to see in the Glades. Of what is country? And the rest of the countries a capable when it is inspired by the going. Using institutional religious behind the scene. Yeah. Influence right into congress to voice into the into the legislators influence into the religious evangelicalism. Yes. Yes. Let me just act to what you're saying. In revelation, thirteen fourteen it says, and he had power to give life onto the image of the beasts that the image of the beast, should bow the speak, and 'cause that as many as were not worship the image of the beast should be killed. So this is the part that has not happened yet. The image of the beast has not been able to cause this prosecution happened the next two versus any calls it all both small and great rich and poor free and bound to receive a Mark and their forehead right hand and their foreheads. And that no man might buy or sell see if he had the Mark of the beast or the number of his name. So what is telling us what we hear? Is a great conflict in just in front of us. So why are we going to this guy who we're going to follow? Today's the day of salvation make a decision. That's right. Let's make that decision for God today. Let's make our decision for his holy Sabbath. Let's make a decision for Jesus right now. Lists make the decisions, my friend. Yes. We are nowhere entering into the greatest conflict of all maybe..

"W. Over in Vatican City right now, the pope pope Francis has convened a four day summer got underway yesterday. Vatican has bishops from about one hundred and thirty countries and all of this is designed to prevent future cover-ups by the Catholic church globally to a massive problem that they had with priests molesting children. They just defrocked a cardinal last week. Actually, the guy was the cardinal of my arch of oversaw a diocese in in New Jersey, many many years ago, I in any way, shape or form. This is a huge problem that at least now is being addressed by the Catholic church. He is stationed in Vatican City for this right through Sunday. He is ABC's David Wright. And he's kind enough to join us now here on seven hundred wwl w David good morning. And thank you for joining us. We appreciate it. Good morning. Thanks for having me. Okay. So it sounds like and just watching your reports and listening to some of the stuff that that you've been sending along since it started. It sounds like there's a an attempt at least by the church to make to make make a healing process. I don't want to say more accessible, but accepting the fact that there is a problem here, which the churches duct and run from for centuries. What are you sensing there from the victims you've talked to, and where do you sense, the sincerity is this not not necessarily with the pope? But with the rest of the others that are convened there. Well, it's like anything. When people talk about recovery. The first step is admitting you have a problem. And I think the very fact that they're having this summit at this time with representatives from every Catholic. Taya's has bishops cardinals from around the world. Is that they recognize the two major problem. It's also a time when law enforcement has stepped in where church leaders have refused or fear to tread. So they recognize that this is a problem. There's a gun to their head to some extent in terms of dealing with the problem. You know? This is an issue that obviously goes back many years, and Cincinnati was among the first is criminal indictments as a result of criminal investigations as a result of this candle for the many, many survivors and victims, you know, they're wondering why it took so long to have a meeting. Yeah. I mean, and you speak about the places to Cincinnati here, and what has gone on in Pennsylvania. As I said in the intro. They had a cardinal defrocked fired in essence, and then defrocked this week. So unlike maybe some of his predecessors pope Francis. I think wants to embrace this. And he's a very, I'm a Roman Catholic. He is a very progressive pope. And maybe this is just part of his grand plan. You spoke with one of the victims and survivors, Phil sauvignon. Oh, who was part of that terrific movie? That was or historic was part of that terrific movie that came out several years ago, the Boston spotlight a movie what what was your feeling after talking with him? And what did what did he did he feel like this was at least a positive step? It does feel like this is a positive step fell told me that he's been, you know, coming to Rome for a long time. Now, sadly addressing this issue trying to raise awareness, and this is the first time that he felt that somebody inside the Vatican in a position to make a difference is listening. And so that's a positive sign that said, you know, he says he's been dealing with this issue for twenty eight years now and. Why did it take so long? It's kind of ridiculous that they should have come to Jesus moment. Now, I think what you're seeing in. The Catholic church is the church has made great strides in terms of dealing with priests who abused children. There are new safeguards in place in across the United States. For instance, where if an allegation is made, and then then a certain procedures kick in and you know, they deal with it what they haven't done a good job at is dealing with bishops in many cases for decades, moved priests from one parish to another before the two thousand and two Dallas charter was adopted. And so you know, there's an awkward question. Now, there's a generation of leaders in the Catholic church who may be complicit to one degree or another in having people around. And if they were really to take a transparent accounting of bishops who knew but look the other way that we might say. A bloodbath. The leadership. Exactly, you might not have a lot of people that are in a good sense. You might not have a lot of the folks that are that are staffing, these these churches, the priests the bishops the archbishop's, I mean, it it goes so wide and so deep. Yeah. You might have a real attrition rate there this ends on Sunday. But there's not going to be any any definitive declaration. I it sounds like it's a first step and that there will be other things like that. But there's not going to be any great proclamation at the end of this is there there may be some proclamation. The pope will have some words to say on Sunday. And there will be we're told possibly some sort of paper statement that comes out of this. But you're absolutely right. This at the beginning of the conversation, that's not the end of the conversation. And after they deal with the protection of minors. They're going to have to deal with other wrinkles of this candle from the abuse of nuns and seminarians to preach to father children Melissa's automobile jelly. Yeah. Well, we're following you and your reports and they're just terrific. And we know the time difference between here there. Thank you so much for your time here. Cincinnati on seven hundred wwl w thanks for having me, David Wright, ABC news. It is it's an embarrassment to anybody that practices that religion. As I have for all of my sixty seven years, it is just an absolute embarrassment. But this pope who politically he is for some tough pill swallow, at least is taking this odd where his predecessors were just either blind to it or enabled it or would just plain stupid enough not to see it. And I give him credit for that eight forty nine News Radio seven hundred wwl w let's take a look at traffic outside. Here's Jason Earhart. What's going on it seems to be thinning out? They're almost as many survivors here is there are bishops they want the Vatican to release all the names of credibly accused pre. From around the world. They said that will go a long way to establishing credibility and also protecting minors from future abuse. They also want a zero tolerance policy established around the globe. Again.
