"I think he's up for the challenge. Well, he's gonna have to be. And I think so. Will Andrei Vasilevskiy for sure. I think both goaltenders once and outstanding performance tonight, obviously of acid to close this thing out, but you don't and force a game seven. Anything could happen and I'll leave you with this on. What's the key for the stars tonight to extend this win to a game seven. What are you gonna be looking for? That gives you an indication? Alright? Yeah, this star's teams ready to go tonight. We'll has to do with a couple of factors. But one of the keys is how they deal with managing the park because when they win Either clean exits or through having good play through the neutral zone and get in and fortune. These two teams are surprisingly similar. Now there's different aspects to both. But both teams are on their game when they are hunting the puck in the offensive zone and working the fore check wearing the opposition defense down, causing turnovers and then creating scoring chances off that now. Sometimes I think that the Lightning do a little bit more on the rush than the stars do, especially with guys like Ropa hints out who had that sort of blinding speed. But if Dallas is able to get the puck on the other side of the red line Actually. Forced Tampa to go backwards. Go get it and then try to get out of the four check. I think that will speak really well for douse you saw, especially in the first overtime starts out a lot of trouble breaking out of their own end. And they were very passive. And that really was a problem. Now. Dallas is pretty good about bending but not breaking, so it didn't completely hurt them. But you'll see really quickly if they're able to not get hemmed in too much early. Will be fine because the stars can play that slugfest style game that we saw in Game five. With lower energy. That's fight. It's it's a bit more of the run and gun trading chances. I think they prefer to avoid. You know, it's funny, Greg because I just like you have a natural tendency to want to take over as the host and ask questions so Always ready to start grilling you on stuff. But Vasilevskiy, as you probably will know is about seven minutes away from setting a new playoff record for most minutes played in one playoff here, and I know he's in his private. It probably is an effective you have to wonder he's played a lot of hockey. Is that an issue piling up? Yeah, I don't think so. I think for him to your point, he's a highly conditioned guy. All these guys are, but he loves the workload. I think he thrives in it. If he was maybe 35 36. I think you could probably talk about it being an issue. I think I think he's ready to go. I think he's been really good in this serious. Maybe not great, but I think he's been good enough and I would expect him to have a really good game tonight. And if he's not, I'd be surprised. Andi think if that's the case, the Stars would win. But, you know, I think he's going to have AH. Pretty standout game tonight and we'll we'll see how that plays out. But who knows? That's why they play the game on they play the game. And we'll see what happens. Well, look, man. Thanks for coming on. I appreciate it. And best of luck to you guys have fun tonight. And maybe we'll do it again down the road. If not, I'm sure we'll talk in the off season for sure. Maybe they'll be a game seven. There could be thanks for having me Greg Appreciate it that zone Newkirk, he is the Stars radio hosts, and we appreciate him making some time. They want to let you know you could never miss a player.

"Of the crease and he got a piece of that deflected it. Vasilevskiy makes the save. Prior that the first half of that power play What a job by Tampa Bay breaking up all those plays at the Blue line. They have won the special teams battle to this point jump. I hastily safe store. What time's it for? Dallas? Joe Pavelski has had a marvellous playoff run. Belsky. Is in front of the net. Jamie Benn actually loses the face off a Tampa gives it up. It goes back to the point. The point shot from the middle of the ice gets reflected on the way in. Difficult, safer Vasilevskiy, which he does make, But off to the side is Joe Pavelski. He gets away from McDonough by taking a step back away from the net. With those great hands that he has puts it up high over best lefty who was still down on the ice. 13 14 the time of the Gold bell, Stevie Has tied it. He had a couple of holes last night. "The net. And what point I think everyone was surprised The puck came to appoint a Lord Duck behind that point was wide open in front. And he put that it's too too. You know, this was a gutsy when in a lot of ways, the adversity this team faced during this game, he figure Look, Dallas goes up to nothing. Klingberg and Pavelski and you're thinking, all right. This isn't going away. Tampa Bay anticipate then Brayden point. It's a goal late. In that first period, then he gets another one in the second early on too tight. It's too on the power play. Corey Perry made it three to Gord tied it up 33. Killorn in the third period throws one at the Net. Beautiful shot at 6 41 layer up 43 You're feeling all right? This is it. Here we go. But then Pavelski gets that golden 11 35. Fortuitous bounce makes it for four. But then you get into this situation where you had braid and points get called for an embellishment along with Perry. You go for on four and then 37 seconds into the overtime. Dallas goes on the power play. It's four on three and they had some dangerous looks. But you know, Jamie Benn Does have some bad timing when it comes to penalties throughout his career and lighting made him pay for that it's Kevin Shattenkirk getting the goal from headmen marooned at 6 34. To get the power play goal there and the lightning or three for four on the power play. We're gonna get some players some, but can I want to get your thoughts and just how this game transpire if I thought, you know a lot of highs and lows and With lightning with their star power and they're scoring ability. You never felt like they were completely out of this game and I just I really impressed with their win tonight. I am to it. I'm impressed. I really think braiding points goal when the lightning fell down early was huge, and you could just see it the confidence that he's playing with the emotion. After some of those goals. I mean, they realized you could see they're so close to the ultimate goal and they're stopping at nothing to get there, and that's evident in their play on the ice, and I thought Dallas put forth a really good performance tonight and it really could have been anyone's game in the end. But once again, it's the special teams battle. And although I thought Dallas certainly cut back on some of the undisciplined penalties, they were not able to get their penalty kill, crush them. The Lightning went three for four on the power play, and you know they had every opportunity in the overtime. With the man advantage to get it done, and it's the lightning who keeps finding ways to come from behind and win. So it's not always gonna be pretty. But I think each player even looking at Janni gored again. You're just seeing different guy. Step up and, you know, play those tough minutes and I thought the lightning you know Michigan and Phil Esposito had said. I thought they did carry playfor more stretches. And although Dallas had their moments on, they surged at times, Vasilevskiy came in the end with a couple big pad saves. And unfortunately huge open couldn't quite make the timely wants to keep his team there. And you know when they when they had the chance to help him out and get a power play goal, they didn't do it either. Now again, let's go to

"They're for the power play, and it could have been the hero and Game six. And then suddenly we're talking about maybe a dangerous power play going into Game one of the Stanley Cup final here, but it's just that game of ventures off. Just the you know from a near Miss Teo, you know, potentially being the hero s O. I will be something. Toto. Watch here as we get into game won something else that we're going to be looking at. Is the goaltending battle on? I think that's going to be a big key to this. Siri's Andrei Vasilevskiy versus Anton Khudobin. I think the lightning have a big advantage here, eyes. Certainly Cadogan is a guy that can steal a game for you. He's played extremely well. Certainly in that Vegas serious he was You know the stand out for the stars in that Siri's really helped him get through that one in five When I thought everybody felt like Vegas was the better team would probably come out of that. There's you know, big surprise around the league that the stars were able to handle Vegas that the way that they did, and you know it was a big part of that. But For me personally, I think even as good as he's been this postseason, Andrei Vasilevskiy is still the best goaltender in the world and the Lightning have him and his this at their disposal, and he's been getting better and better as this postseason has gone along. I'm interested. Do you feel like the same way as far as how that gold tinny battle breaks down, and it's You know, it's Vasyl a ski and kudo is a little bit behind. But Vasilevskiy is kind of could be the difference in this series. Yeah, I think no question. Like you said. He's the best in the world. I'll take Vasilevskiy any day over. Probably any opponent. He's played tremendous up to this point. I know he's played a lot of hockey, and that may have come into question. But To get to this point and the experience that he has under his belt, I think also gives him the the edge there and you know it's it's hard to get to a Stanley Cup final. This team's done it A TTE this group at least in 2015. It took a long time to get back here and I think with the early exit, you know, this is a team that came into this playoffs with a much different mentality, including him. I think we've seen some maturity with another year under his belt, Justus we have with several other players and even the top line for the Lightning, so I would take Vasilevskiy. He's bigger. He's proven He's he's got the vest under his belt. But it's the playoffs in like, you know, Burns E. It's anybody's game. Ifyou're goaltenders, you know hot, and I think that's where cute open he'd have to steal a couple games here for the Stars and You know, it's just going to be interesting. I think the only thing that scares me a little bit about Dallas. I would say going into this. I think you know the Lightning are the better team, but you know, they remind me a little bit of the ST Louis Blues last season in the coaching aspect. Craig Burg comes in, takes over the group, and he has their respect and commands the group there and leads him all the way to a Stanley Cup championship. I think bonus has similarly done that with this group for Dallas. Clearly, they trust him, and they believe in him and Nobody would've pegged ST Louis or the Stars to be in the Stanley Cup final at the beginning of the season, so I think for them, you know, I wouldn't say they're underrated because they're very great team and it obviously takes to team the two teams in the finals deserve to be there. But they may have a little bit of an attitude coming into this, knowing just how good the lightning are, how good Andrei Vasilevskiy is and what it's going to take to win and I think you'd opens. Goingto have to steal games for them if they're going to Yeah, I mean, there were you remember, there were questions about Vasilevskiy after last season's.

"The Islanders 8 to 2 in Game one of the Eastern Conference final on Monday night and tonight they're looking to take a to a lead in the best of seven series. I'm Brian Burns beat writer for the Tampa Bay Lightning and joining Mia's Lightning radio analyst Kelly Chelios as the Lightning scored early and often in Game one break point, netting a gold 74 seconds into the contest on the power play connecting three times and the route was on. Both scoring eight goals in the contest to tie a franchise record for most goals in a playoff game and essentially ending the game by the midpoint of the second period and Kaylie, let's get right into it. What did you make of the thinking that the Islanders were attired team when they played the Lightning in Game one? Because they had to go seven games against the Flyers. And then they flew to Edmonton the day before Game one that they didn't have their legs for the series opener. Are you Kind of brand of hockey that the Islanders play that they couldn't take time off and the start was going to be key and Trying to play with the lead. You don't want to get caught chasing against a team like the Islanders and get on your heels. So what they did really well, I thought was take the energy from them early, and they kind of took advantage. And maybe the fatigue started to set in mentally. I don't know that. You know, we saw physically exhausted team from a game seven. I think going into that game, most people would have said the Islanders had the advantage of being sharp and in the edge that way s O. I think that the lighting just did a great job against them just kind of taking the wind out of their cells when there is an opportunity for The Islanders to get back in the game, which there were many instances before it got out of reach on their power play, which struggled quite a bit. Vasilevskiy had to make some really big saves. They gave up some some odd man rushes and turned the puck over thought too much getting caught cheating a little bit trying to make those plays. Offensively once they got a couple goals, so I don't think was a perfect game by the Lightning. But I do think you know you're getting a little nit picky at that point, because they did play an excellent game. They did all the things right. Toe win two deserved win that game, so I think, like, everyone said, we will see a different Islanders team, but I wouldn't say that It was all just fatigue that set in from from playing a game seven against the Flyers. Yeah, they're the reason. I asked that a lot of the comments after the game from the Lightning players and head coach John Cooper was just talking about how You know, the Lightning had to take advantage of the situation. They had a week to rest up before the opening game of the Eastern Conference final filly had had played a taxing seven game series against the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round. They didn't get to fly to the admitted bubble until Sunday, the Lightning were able to get their Saturday so they had an extra day to rest. S O a lot of the comments after the game. We're talking about how the lightning saying that they needed to take advantage of that scenario where they had the extra few days of rest. Islanders could have been a more tired team playing in that Siri's, but my sense is, you know if the light if the Islanders retired from Game one It's where they're going to get their legs in the series. You know, there's a game every other day. They're continuing their schedule. Basically, from the second round where they played every other day, they're not getting that week long break that the lightning dead. They're just continuing that You play Monday off Tuesday, play Wednesday off Thursday. So for me, it's like, what are they going to get a chance to get that rest? And this is really where you're seeing how valuable it is to close out a serious when you get an opportunity, the Lightning had clinching game scenarios in Game five and both the 1st and 2nd rounds. And we will take care of business in those games to get a little rest between Siri's. The Islanders had a chance to close out the Flyers in Game five, but failed to do so. They couldn't get it done in Game six either and had to go the distance all the way to a game seven. So we wondered if the Lightning might be rusty coming into Game one of the Eastern Conference finals. That certainly wasn't the case. I think that gold like you said. My brain a point early gave them a huge lift allowed them to play from in front for nearly degeneration of the game, which is certainly something you want to do against the Islanders. You don't want to have to chase the game against them. And it gave them a lot of confidence. So when you look at what the lightning were able to do as a whole from Game one what really impressed you the most Kaylie about what the lightning did in that ate, too, Ralph. Yeah, I think I really like the way they started. Obviously, they had tons of energy. I thought they did a great job of getting the D involved holding the blue line. There are a couple plays in the first. 5 10 minutes of the game where the puck with you know the Islanders are hemmed in their own zone are kind of on their heels already because of the relentless for check, And then that allows the lightning defenseman to hold the blue line of it better because they're just Throwing the puck up the wall hoping to get.

"This is the Lightning Radio Network Intermission report. Here's Greg Llanelli. Well, it wasn't the prettiest first period by the Tampa Bay Lightning. They were down five on three at one points with over a minute in the power playtime for Columbus to execute that five on three. They didn't Andrei Vasilevskiy was fantastic. The lady. Get a two on one goal. Thanks to Alex Killorn going Backhand five hole. On Korpisalo at 15 48 and that is where we are at the end of 11 to nothing, And that was our chaser view from that first period shoes. What's right for you? A chase dot com Columbus had three power play opportunities. As I said before. They had a five on three for a minute, 26. Think about that. That is a long time and the lining did a good job of it. You know, keeping the play outside for the most part, and then they needed to have Ah, couple of brakes for sure. Ben's from Miss the net wide rights of Vasilevskiy hit the post. He gets that on that it's a goal, but he missed And Andrei Vasilevskiy was really good when he saw the puck and crowded. No big rebounds. They're so from that standpoint, John Cooper has to feel pretty good about where his goaltender is. And then, of course, call Lauren, who's a big playoff performer. Was able to get one by Korpisalo Cerulean Bogosian with the assist and now it's important to see if Tampa Bay whether it's aided by a power play opportunity that you would think they're going to get at some point because Columbus said three Or just good old fashioned five on five solid play can build on this one. Nothing lead in force Columbus to come out of the shell. Just a bit. We'll see how that plays out..

"It was a ah, along one, no doubt, but it's always better when your team wins and the Lightning did that in five overtimes 32 over Columbus Game one of this best of seven braid in points with the game winner in the fifth overtime. And that is how the game would end. Just simply gets the puck throws it on nets. Good shot. Good things happen when you put the puck on that. How about Korpisalo? By the way, folks stopped 85 Of 88 shots. That's a record in the 9 66 save percentage. Vasilevskiy had a 9 68 safe percentages. He stopped 61 of 63 shots. It's always fun to look at the total ice time for some individual players, Victor Hedman, talking about that lower body injury, 57 minutes and 38 seconds. He played on the back and had nine shots. On gold when you take a look at the forward position. For the Lightning. Brayden point played 47 minutes course. The two goals I said he had nine shots on goal. How Valiani gored and Mitchell Stevens both had six shots apiece. Stevens actually had some really good scoring opportunities in the skin. The fourth line. Did some good things played a little over 24 minutes. And that was encouraging to see for sure, because you want to see that death scoring come up big when we can

"Plus, you're facing arrested team relatively speaking Oilers did not played since Tuesday and they've been sitting back to back losses that came after a really strong stretch for them essentially since Ken Hitchcock took over. So I think all of that means that it's not going to be easy circumstantially. But we've seen for this team that the circumstances don't really seem to bother them. I mean, they have those tough. I home games back after long road trips. They win. Yeah. They face motivated opponents they win. They figure to be tired second of back to back. They fall behind they win. So I think they've already shown that there have been some tough circumstantial type of games this year that they've been able to navigate their way through. But I do think this is another one of those and they didn't do very well in this building last year at a similar situation. It was the last game of a road trip and mcdavid thoughts and had four. Goals and five points. Obviously they want to avoid a similar situation tonight. Makes a lot of sense. Dave, no doubt. And you've got to think Tampa Bay will be up for a game like this. I know the talk of Edmonson was Ken Hitchcock had a couple of days the practice, and they felt like really they could install some of the things that he wanted to implement that. He hasn't really had a chance since taking over as head coach. I also think tonight's match up between the pipes is going to be really interesting because Mikko Koskinen has been really good this year Davis. You talked to FRANZ John. But he's been really good at home as well. And we know about Andrei vasilevskiy, Jack Michael's confirming. I think many of us believe that vast is the best netminder in the game. So this has the makings of I think being an interesting. Goaltender matchup. Kaley. Yeah. I mean Coskun, and and no at home, he's been really impressive. And I think from who we've talked to as far as the oiler side this morning. It sounds like he's someone who they expected to be a solid backup. And is now kind of turned the tables and been exceptional for this Oilers team. So I think they've been having tremendous goaltending. They're gonna look to make a strong statement at home, obviously as you mentioned with the holiday break, but it'll be a good goaltending battle Vazza left. He's had some time now to rest, obviously with domain playing in the last game. And he spent some time usually just whoever isn't playing we'll get on the ice during the optional skates in today both bass left the ending were on the ice. Oh, I think he's hungry to get back. And it's been nice for him to have this rest. You know, obviously, you never wanna see a player of that caliber and kind of the backbone of this team as many of his teammates have said about him being injured. But I think in the long run it's going to really help and as far as being fresh for playoffs and likewise with their blue line. I don't think it's a bad thing necessarily to be able to rest some of their veterans Girardi and Coburn and even surrogates have just to kinda give their mind a break, especially on a road trip. That's been this challenging so far. They'll give Eric Cherniak another chance to see, you know, everything he can get and everything he's got as far as being inconsistent player. And they have the luxury of where they are in the standings right now to see that. For sure. And you know, the back end, I think it's been a problem for Edmonton. As you said Kelly depth scoring thinks bit a little bit of an issue. But hasn't been an issue for Tampa Bay? I mean, I it seems like whoever they're putting it on that third or fourth line is producing another. It'll be a couple of.

"Although that may change as time goes on. But it's a great question. Chris. And a great observation ams says who are your top three way too early. MVP candidates. Who are your top three way too early MVP end that it's okay, I figured if I read it slow. I'd be able to understand it. Well, Pasternak has to be in the consideration for it. He's got seventeen goals on the season. Boston's having a very good year. I would have said Matthews before he got hurt in Toronto. But he would probably be in the conversation for me if he were still healthy Wheeler in Winnipeg as having a tremendous year. I mean, he is just phenomenal the other night. I guess it was last weekend. He had five points. Was an assist or goal and in on all five goals that Winnipeg scored and clearly Winnipeg is a team that went to championship. Those of the three off the top of my head five minute major says unless the kings decide the flip haggling to another club in a trade for a goalie. I really don't see how this move benefits the kings, unless it's one of those hope a change of scenery helps the player improve type of thing. We write the money was similar years were similar Haglund's older than Pearson. So yeah, I'm with you less the kings just happen to see something in him. And if you wanna flip them for a goaltender where you probably could've flipped Pearson for a goaltender. So you're right. That's probably more of a wait and see situation. Brett says New Yorker have been rolling lately. I really liked Quinn. He is Goldilocks between towards an av. Not too harsh. Not to software. Just right. Besides hank. What do you think the reason for the turnaround has been well, there's there's a few things. I mean, first of all you're seeing Kevin Hayes play much better than he played at the beginning of the season a much better than I think he's played at any point in his NHL career. So that is really round of things out. We were mentioning and how well he has played. So those are the two things that kind of jump to mind for me on why they might actually be better than people think, and this might actually be a playoff team, and we'll see tonight. I'm really looking forward to it Barclay center. It's gotten you know, beat up a little bit. There was only like something like shade over eight thousand people for the cannot game. Everybody's waiting for them to go back to the Coliseum later on this year. And they're gonna be splitting time. So certainly the Rangers who can fill the building are gonna play here in Brooklyn. And I think the building. Will be filled tonight the way the Rangers are playing for sure on the Allders coming off a win. And the Rangers have never won here. It's so weird. They're oh five and one of the six games that they played here Barclay center since the islanders began play here in the fifteen sixteen season, which is odd. But it should be fun. A nice atmosphere and ice mid November game it's snowing outside in Brooklyn and the tri-state area. So you get that little feel of winter as maybe the really first important game. These two teams have played all year. So I'm looking forward to it. If you're in the tri-state area ninety eight seventy SPN Yorkie certainly could find the game online. If you're outside of the area wanna hear me and Dave Maloney with a car. This is a lot of fun tomorrow. It's going to be even better because tomorrow, we'll have a ton of games to recap. "Kyle says Erik Carlsson hasn't been living up to expectations and experts say to give him another ten fifteen games. If he still doesn't heat up. What do you attribute that to new team system playing in Western Conference contract year? It's a great question. Sometimes players do not excel during a contract year. I always give the example of Wade Boggs. He was in a walk year with the Red Sox. And I think bad at like two thirty nine it's like a lifetime. You know, three thirty hitter. Some guys don't play. Well, when there are a lot of expectations for. The contract. There's expectations in San Jose to win the Cup. He's played with different players Vlasic and burns and Carlson for the most part do not play together there on three separate lines. So there's a lot of shuffling that I think has gone on that he needs to get used to it does take time. Now, they've played past ten fifteen games. Now, they're getting close to twenty game. So if it doesn't happen pretty soon, you wonder if it's ever going to happen. I would not be discouraged from signing him because I think he's a singular talent. But for some reason, it just isn't working out that well would San Jose. But I still would give it just a little bit more time. I don't think it's going to be a complete loss because they're just too much talent there Phillips says when I watched peon play I get so impressed. But if you look into the advanced assistance, it's the other way around he has no stat that says he's playing well, none the eye test says, he's excellent. But the stats say he's awful. What's your opinion on this? That's why I don't get crazy with. The analytics, especially in occupant. Right. He's a young player. I swab him skate. I think he's smart. He makes his share mistakes. But do you think he's got speed to compensate for that? Right. He's bounced around. He's played with different defense this year. His oh, they haven't really settled on that one pairing for him. Although they have is of late gotten a chance to do that. I wouldn't read too much into the numbers. If you pass the eye test than what do you look into the analytics for he had the coast to coast goal the other night making up for a mistake. He made earlier he could play the point on the power play. You could skate he can shoot. I mean. I love the guy. He's a young guy on a team that's trying to find its way. I would not look too much into the analytics David said earlier in the week Bill Daley mentioned the Seattle arena renovation was targeted for November of twenty twenty in the league has no interest in Seattle beginning season in an alternate. Rank. Why not I could swear previous expansion teams have done this before? Yeah, they did in Ottawa. If you remember played over at the football stadium where the indent of the upper deck and the football state. Idiom took away seats on the one side that did that for a couple of years. I know there's been a other expansion teams that have played tan Tampa played I it at Tropicana field. If you remember when they first started the league wants to try to stay away from that they want to try to give the team the best chance to excel ticket wise, the whole idea is, and I remember this for Winnipeg the NHL was really apprehensive going back to Winnipeg because of the size of the market and the Canadian dollar, so Gary Bettman said listen if you can get thirteen thousand season ticket whole season tickets sold in X amount of time..

"What are your thoughts on him becoming an elite player? Why think he is? Now, we've seen it comedies banging on the door for the last couple of years. He's playing on a team that has become more offensive. If you remember Boston was a very thick plotting physical team. Now when you look at what they bring to the table gets the play birds, you're on a Marsh and they've opened up there in Boston. He has flourished there. I think he is a star right now. Sam Diaz says Donna haven't followed hockey that long. But I don't recall any infighting among teammates during a game. Like, the situation occurred in Golden State with the warriors do any come to mind that you can share all it's a great question rooms are usually pretty solid in the NHL. But that doesn't mean every. Gets along with each other. I mean, there was an incident in buffalo with her allegations that Ted Nolan was messing around with Dominic Hosh ache. And there were problems there. That's something to kind of jumps to mind. Obviously you saw what happened in Ottawa during the course of the off season with with Hoffman's girlfriend tweeting about Carlson's wife, and there were there were problems there. And what happened both of them ended up getting traded out of Ottawa? So it seems to me that in the NHL if you're that kind of a problem child like if the Draymond green. Kevin Durant thing happened in hockey. I think that tr- Trayvon Greenwood probably get traded away the room is important in every sport. I'm not going to try to make it seem like hockey is different than any other. But it does seem like whenever a problem does occur that occupy players and organizations within the NHL seemed to have a way to stifle it the uniqueness with Golden State is that the just so much better than everybody else. You really don't have a comparable to it. Because there's not that. Kind of a dominant team in any other sport the way, Golden State dominates the NBA. But there are stories, but nothing that is faster to the point where it's got in the coverage, certainly the tap, and they're in Golden State forever. T eight says would there be any chance? The leaves or blue jackets to a straight Panara in for kneeland or trade jackets, get a chance to sign a long long term in the Leafs. Take a one year flyer as a juggernaut offense. I'm not sure they did want to do that. I think when you look at Toronto, I think they're built for the long haul. Yes. Adding Panara and for one year as a rental would be something good. I think they liked to get something done with the Lander. If they got there, and they like to get something done with him. I'm not sure they want to trade a problem for a problem. I think if they trade knee Lander it's going to be for a player that has controllable contract. They can add to the roster rather than having a Pinera and who they could end up walking anyway. Although I would think I can't get in penins head. But I think the Toronto would be a possible destination for him, Tom. Mm says Carl Haglund hasn't been able to stick anywhere too long since the Rangers traded him for Emerson eat them. He seems like the type of player you'd want in today's NHL fast smart skilled good on penalty kill experience. Why hasn't he found a stable home? Well, listen, he's a good player for sure. And and you look at it is he can't stick someplace, but you can also look at it his team still want him. So is he not wanted by the organization that he's on? Or is he wanted by several organizations. So there's a place for Carl Haglund, certainly maybe pound for pound the fastest player in the NHL. But he doesn't have a lot of Finnish. Okay. What you wanna see out? Its speed is the ability to score goals, and he's never been able to do that for any kind of extended period of time. He had some big goals for the Rangers. I remember power play goal in the playoffs against the penguins. So he's not completely inept offensively. But if his goal scoring matched his ability to skate he'd be one of the best players in the lay..

"On ninety eight seven ESPN New York tonight at seven o'clock devils and the flyers from Philadelphia devil seemed to be able to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins. Can they beat everybody else? That's the problem, but they are on the road a place. That's just been a horror show for them. Just one win away from prudential center, and that was against Pittsburgh, not counting the game that they hadn't Sweden against Edmonton. So that's an interesting one macho continues their western Canadian swing? They'll be in Calgary that take on the flames as Montreal was a no show against to the other night. Pittsburgh and Tampa to teams with significant injuries novas for Levski for Tampa. No Crosby for Pittsburgh that game is in Pittsburgh. So we'll see how those two teams bounceback Florida look for their six consecutive win going up against the Tampa team. That's in first place in the metro at ten six and two Detroit playing well back to NHL five hundred eighty two they'll be an Ottawa to take on the senators conducts and the wild for Minnesota wild have been great but did suffer loss the other night to Washington see if they can bounce back against a team that is finishing up their road trip last game of a six game road trip. They've lost the last two in regulation. So the on fuel. Searcy of the wild. Can't take advantage of that nine o'clock, the predators and the coyotes two consecutive losses for Nashville on the road. They had the overtime loss. And then losing and regulation for the first time to San Jose. They'll take on a Arizona team that's kind of slowed down a little bit with a couple of losses in a row and the Maple Leafs continue their western swing and San Jose against the sharks. This should be a good one sharks coming off that thrilling victory over Nashville. They'll Maple Leafs made short work of the kings. The other night leaves twelve six and over says, the sharks ten six and three that should be a real good one from San Jose. If you can manage to stay up late. Let's hear from you at Donald Gregg hashtag game is conduct will start with Courtney who asked the sixty four thousand dollar question before she says, hi, Don back. Life has been crazy. We'll hopefully Courtney things get back to normal. I just all the vassal of ski is heard and maybe out for an extended period time how badly does this impact Tampa? And do you still think they can stay atop the Atlantic and the east while when you take a look at the standings in the Eastern Conference. They do have a lead. Although I wouldn't call it a significant one in the conference. They've got twenty five points. Toronto is just one point back. Both teams with eighteen games played. So can they hold onto the top spot in their own division is certainly up for question. And then you gotta go away down the Columbus at twenty two points before you can right in Boston of another team that can catch them in the conference. So can they hold on? We'll we'll see if Louis Domincan play wall. And I would think they'd stay with demand for at least a little bit of time here. And if it doesn't work out, and you find out the vassal FC is going to be out for a couple of months. They might have to make a trade for a goaltender, and we'll see who could be available because as I mentioned, I think they only have about one point three million dollars in cap space. So they might have to move a player of significance in order to make room. I don't think they would completely fall out of it. I mean, Louis Dominguez a backup goaltender. That's what he is. But he's got a hell of a team in front of him. So we'll see how it works. But if they play five hundred for the next month or so does that hurt their Stanley Cup chances? Well might hurt their home ice advantage and my hurt them winning their division in their conference. But I still think that they can win the Stanley Cup. If they are able to get Vassilev ski back. Jake says David pasternack seems to be flourishing this year almost a goal a game pace to start the season with two hat tricks already. "Greco and welcome to the Thursday edition of game has conduct. I'm down the Graca coming to from Barclay center here in Brooklyn, I'll be calling the Rangers. And the islanders nights second-place versus third. Certainly a lot more spirit to the scale that we thought maybe earlier in the season islander snapped their three game losing streak the other night against ban. Coober? Meanwhile, the Rangers have points and seven consecutive games. So it's been a lot of fun thirteen out of a possible. Fourteen points for them Allender and second Rangers and third. We'll talk about that just in a little bit. But there are injuries to get into before last night's games. Bassa Levski for the Tampa Bay Lightning out indefinitely, and it'll be evaluated later on today because of a foot injury. This is really interesting. This is one of if not the best teams of the NHL and is Louie demeaning the guy to carry them until vassal FC comes back. So are they going to be in the market for a goaltender? They do not have a lot of cap space. So I'm not really sure what they can do. I'm sure they'll just kinda settle in with Dominque. Now, we'll find out more later today possibly tomorrow. But if he's going to be out a few months, you wonder whether the market for a goaltender the devils have three with Cory Snyder possibly somebody. They might want to get rid of especially with six million dollars due to him every year through the twenty one twenty two season. But I'm not sure how Tampa can fit that into the cap unless they give up something significant on their roster. That's making a lot of money because the devils have a slew of cap space. But not sure the doubles wanna make that deal for you know, a Dan Girardi, I'm not sure Ryan mcdonagh is going to be available to them. You're not gonna get ahead. Perga- headman. You're not gonna get some of that significant. So right now, it's fresh. We'll see what Tampa decides to do. But a significant injury for the best team in the Eastern Conference in Sidney Crosby could miss about a week for the penguins with upper body injury. So Pittsburgh struggling right now might lose the best player in the National Hockey League. So keep an eye on Pittsburgh and Tampa we've got some significant injuries in. In the Eastern Conference in it wasn't a great night for the Eastern Conference yesterday as the the big games involving the top teams in each conference. Did not go the Eastern Conference is way Washington in Winnipeg. Winnipeg wins that game three two one Washington jumped out to an early lead Rana scores his fifth in the first period. Thirteen minutes in but shy. Flea gets his tenth five oh five into the second period. Chirac gets his third of the year. And then it would be Kyle Connor putting it away and unassisted gold his eighth of the year with a minute to go into the empty net. So Winnipeg makes a statement scores. Three goals on just twenty four shots. They shut down Ovechkin. So nice win for Winnipeg is Washington continues to be about average this season in Boston. They lose in Colorado to the avalanche by the final tally of six to three. Although Pasternak was really good in this game. As he picked up his seventeenth goal of the season. And he just continues to be on fire. And it was landed cog with the first goal. But then Boston closes out the period with Pasternak seventeenth brusque with is six and Debrosse gets his second early in the third period to make a three one. But then it was all Colorado after that rotten score. Shortly thereafter, his seventh Calvert who was a nice pickup from Columbus. During the off season ties the game up at three early in the third period. Mcken on a gorgeous three on one scores. His twelve from rotten and in col- joust incur foot close it out for the avalanche as it would be a power play goal for foot late as Colorado makes a statement with a six three win..

"We told you about Andrei vasilevskiy, maybe the biggest save of the game in the second period at five fifty nine Eric Fehr thought he had himself a goal. For three of the game of the powerplay pattern tops it out to fare little lightening Zoloft circle et cetera grail at open takes up corner. Soups wildlife rebound Pollino trying to center. It bats Pollino, got it. Back right point pattern, appoint a Steeler shoots. Come grandma. What? The other way to God's another right wing was phenomenal. And lost a stick right before that as well. Pad save at a beauty fair again completely robbed Minnesota using their sizes. Katie was saying in that second period to try and wear down Tampa Bay as well got a little feisty. But Tampa Bay held all you've got to think they're just going to regroup here and have a much better third period. Again, keep in mind Minnesota played last night on the road against the Dallas Stars. All right. So I had a chance to speak with Matt Larkin from the hockey news earlier in the week, and we talked about a number of different things, but you heard the vast Levski safe right there. And that's where I wanna start this interview. A couple of minutes a preview of what we do on lighting power play with her various talk shows and starting out. I asked mats are people around the league really just on board with Audrey vasilevskiy being a top five even a top three goaltender in the game. Here's what he had to say. I mean, I think a lot of. People are on board deservedly. So I think is one of the top five goaltenders in the NHL, and he's always supposed to be a very elite prospect pedigree. Here's first round pick, which is pretty rare for goalies these days, he's very big. He's very strong explosive. And what I like about am. I talked to him a lot last year. And he really relishes getting opportunities even when he was called upon in the Cup. Final twenty thirteen gene joys the pressure. He likes a guy, and that's he worked number one goaltender that type of swagger. In terms of what's going to get him in the discussion among the very elite in the general populace fans, I just think it's consistency. So that's what's key last year. He was leaked to the first half of the year. And again, a nine thirty one percentage by the all-star break, but he's game really came down the stretch. And I think it was because he shattered his career high in starts and his body. Just hadn't seen that work will before he broke down. He did did rally a lot in the playoffs, of course. But I think people look at those numbers, and maybe soured opinion on basketball, just slightly. I mean, he still doesn't. But I think he can put together a wire to wire season of consistency. Then he's really gonna be revered as one of the top guys. Matt Larkin from the hockey news joins us here on lightning powerplay live. Matt this offense is so deep you mentioned having legitimate scorers on each line game breakers. No doubt JT Miller heck is on the fourth line. They break up. Stamkos and kucherov because they didn't like what was happening there. Did you like that move? How long do you think they stay with that? And what do you make of Steven stamkos more of a playmaker? Then as a shooter. Can he be effective? It's interesting. I I mean, I guess for now I like the move. It's just it's early right? So I think it's a good time of year for coaches to play with their toys and see what clicks. And I think that's what John Cooper's trying to do. I I still expect stamkos and kucherov to end up back on the same line. Because of the magic thing made last season, especially it's just too good of a connection. But I wonder if this is done in an effort to spark stamkos as. Shooter because the right he has developed this tendency to be more of a playmaker. And he's deferring to kucherov as the shooter on their lines. Whereas we stamkos is one of the best pure shooters. That's generation especially one time on the power play. Similar spot veteran lakes, shoot it. And it's kind of strange to see stamkos putting up those local totals. Given the fact that he's a pure natural goal score so pudding with celebrating point. Maybe we'll bring out that shooting ability again step goes, picking up an assist earlier tonight as well. That was Matt Larkin from the.

"Up in matchups you know and when you're caught up in matchups than than you're constantly getting guys off the ice instead of continuing a flow there's all of that and a bag of cookies hip you wanna throw that in there i you know i i i think there's pressure on the home team whenever you're clinching the series whenever you know everybody's expecting a party and you're you know you may get ahead of yourself so there is pressure and then you get on a powerplay let's so to speak and you and you don't get any shots on goal in the fans start getting grumbly and you can feel that as a player you can feel it when your fans are with you or when they're not when you're on the road you can certainly feel it when the crowd is quiet which is exactly what you wanna do on the road but i was just looking up some notes here no series in the history of hockey have each team winning four road games to win a seven game series i don't think that's going to happen in this one i think this is the best of three now we're the home team start winning their games let's talk about the goaltending analyze that for us from the lightning point of view you there omalie well i mean andrei vasilevskiy of as everybody knows by now he's stopped seventy two of the seventy six shots that came as way in washington i dominating performance in one of the reasons why he's up for the new trophy if not for a little fatigue midway through the season probably because he was overworked if you look at the kind of shots he gets he'd probably be the runaway winner of the vezina trophy but the one area that i really like in his game is how he is set up against ovechkin especially in game four i i mean on the penalty kill he made sixteen saves in games three and four those are high quality chances and obviously is a very competitive guy so played while on the road but now he's got to play better on home ice he's not been very good on home ice and.

NHL - 2018 Stanley Cup playoffs - Why this year's second round might be the best ever

"Three two one series in five guys you excited you know you always say you want time off we've had six days in between games so i think the guys want to get back into it practicing against each other can only go so far they want to go against somebody else but i think guys are excited and there's a lot of let's get this going and looking forward to getting into the next round and seeing another opponent but i don't i don't think they're anxious thick a closer look at john cooper's team who the bruins gonna meet for only the second time in franchise history in the stanley cup playoffs andrei vasilevskiy the youngster in net is going through the playoffs is the number one guy for the first time and john cooper outlined the tail end of the season for the best candidate is iraq all year if his numbers weren't as up to par the last third of the season was because of our team and i don't care who you are if your team's not going to play as well front you there's no way your numbers are going to stay the way they were well that might be true and i'm sure it is to a certain point it is actually a certain point watching them play down the stretch but best left he's the one that came out and said i'm tired he was playing an awful lot this season they did try to monitor a lot over the last month and a half and hoping that he's back in a strong place right now now whether he's back full fuller not assume that he is and you got rask at the other end i think it's important to note that both of these teams were among the top scoring teams in the nhl during the regular season so are the toronto maple leafs so you've got you've got teams that can score if you've got to win a game five four where have you have to win a game if it's true to one so be it but there might be some higher scoring games in this series i'm sure that that's going to be great for the.
