"What happens when you die? Well, depending who you speak with and what you believe your concept of the afterlife may vary. But even more importantly, what happens to your crypto and your other stuff when you die? This is a question we can answer more specifically and one that you should personally be able to answer. We've invited Vanessa Clark to the show to answer some really important questions. She's an attorney practicing estate planning crypto and personal injury. Planning for what happens to your stuff when you die or become incapacitated may not be on your radar of stuff you want to hear. But if you've got loved ones who you want to have access to your crypto, you definitely don't want to miss this. We're all going to die someday episode number 611. Of the bad crypto podcast. "So interesting game that was played in a study that I thought was really interesting about our verbal cues. So I mentioned earlier that these hidden verbal cues that we don't even realize we're sending. Very simple experiment. They have people come into the lab and play like a prisoner's dilemma game. One of those games where you have to share or cooperate profits. One group was told, you're going to play the community game. They showed the rules of the game. They had them play. The second group was told, you're going to play the Wall Street game. To give them the same rules, same room, same profits. Can you guess, of course, the community game folks shared two thirds of the profits on average. The Wall Street game players shared one third of the profits. Now, this is kind of mind-blowing. The everything was the same except for one word switch, right? Community to Wall Street. That's it. That was the only difference. Same researcher, same room. This shows me that the way that we label ourselves each other, our meetings, our websites, our handles, those words actually primus. And I think a lot of the times, and I talk about this in the verbal section of the book, there's a little cues that we throw away. Like how you label your meetings, what you put in your calendar invites. Every single time someone opens their calendar and sees a meeting with you, you have a chance to tell them we're going to play the community game on Tuesday at 3 p.m. or we're going to play the Wall Street game Tuesday at 2 p.m.. What do you want someone to play? The big mistake I think we make we're doing that is we call it call meeting, catch up, it's like giving them no cues. It's literally like being stoic or cold with your words. And so a little bonus challenge, I would give to folks if you're feeling brave is, how do you want someone to play with you? How do you want someone to be with you? Do you want them to be productive and competent and capable? Great. Use words like productive and competent and capable. Use words like team. If you want someone to be warm and collaborative and open, use words like gold and warm and open. I think that if you use those, even just in the title of your email, the subject of your email with the title of your agenda that actually changes the way people begin to prepare mentally for that interaction. I think you're so right. And I think as well, obviously, not obviously, but the majority of listeners to this podcast are female. And may work in an environment where they think that being succinct being direct to the point is something that they need to strive to be so that they aren't seen as women in the workplace. This can be seen as a bit feminine to be too fluffy. So absolutely perceived a certain way they might be direct, not Vanessa. That was definitely how I used to communicate by email, especially like here are all the points there is no unnecessary word. You couldn't edit anything out of this. And they were cold and I didn't realize it actually referencing the weather, even though to me it seems like nonsense, but actually talking about the weather before you get to your point is a really important way of building essential rapport. Yes, yes, and it doesn't take many words. I'm so glad you brought this up. So I think flowery language or overusing language is throwing in adjectives when you can. That is the absolute wrong thing to do. That's just going to take some word space. What I want you to do instead is I want you to actually keep the same word count. But just swap out a couple words, right? It's not like they said, the community game, we're going to be friendly and collaborative, and we're going to work together as a team. And then the Wall Street game played. No, it was the community game of Wall Street game. Literally, community is one last word in the Wall Street, right? So this is very, very small switch. These don't take a lot of words. And this is a study that was done that looked at this exact thing. They wanted to know if they just swapped outwards. So not adding more words. They just changed their words any more purposeful. And by the way, if you want to be seen as highly competent, especially if you want to dial up your power as a female, you can use more competent, powerful words. They don't have to be positive. This is not about being positive all the time. I do not believe in toxic positivity. But this is about you can use words like productive capable. Let's power through. Here's the attention today, onwards, Vanessa. That was three or four words in a ten word email. So here they did in the study. They had participants come to the lab and take a little intelligence test. A very basic intelligence test. One group of participants got a cold or sterile set of directions. So take the test below, we'll take you 15 to 20 minutes, use the best of your abilities to complete the questions. A very succinct cold, right? Like no emotional primers at all. So no words actually signal to trigger anything. The second group had the exact same lab study table pen. Intelligence test, but their set of directions, they sprinkled in, they swapped out three or four achievement oriented words. Achievement oriented words are not positive words, their words that specifically trigger in our brain the desire to be motivated. The desire to do the desire to activate. It's a lot of our prefrontal cortex. The desire to actually be our best self. So achievement words are achieved, master, win, succeed, okay? Those kinds of words. They just swapped them in. They wanted to see, well, these three or four achievement or two words actually make a difference. Their participants who read the achievement oriented words did better on their intelligence tests. Not only did they do better, they enjoyed the task more, they worked longer and harder on the quiz overall. And it actually changed their physiology. So when they took their blood samples before and after these tests, the researchers who had had these three or four different words, the actual task changed the.

"To help you make an amazing impression at work and anywhere else you'd like to stand out in the right way. Now I had watched Vanessa's TED Talk and I'd seen her in interviews and was utterly fascinated. Not only by what her research shows about how we interact with others, but how refreshing it was to hear how she describes herself because Vanessa says she is a and I quote recovering awkward person. Now being around other people can be challenging, especially if you don't feel confident and, as Vanessa describes, you can create a cycle in which you feel awkward, misinterpret the situation, feel more awkward, misinterpret the situation further. And so on and then you get lost in a cycle, and listeners when Vanessa was describing this, I could really relate. And if any of that sounds like you, then keep listening because Vanessa breaks down how we can become a super Q reading machine, how to recognize the different cues there's non verbal vocal verbal and imagery, and how to interpret them to not only make ourselves feel comfortable, but to make the people around us feel comfortable too. She also explains how our own cues can tell the world how to treat us and how empowering learning that skill can be, as well as why we should all ask ourselves before any social interaction. What is my social goal here? Plus, if you're thinking, I wouldn't even know what a social goal is. She gives some hints about ones to think about if you're not entirely sure. We also discuss narcissists, how to spot them and how to navigate away from them, toxic personalities, why you may be one of the many people who isn't an extrovert or an introvert, but it's actually an ambivert. And why being vulnerable isn't a weakness. In fact, Vanessa shares so many useful tips and observations in this episode that I think we should just get to as quickly as possible. Don't you? She really is absolutely brilliant as you will hear and I learned so much from this conversation and from reading the book. And I'm so delighted to be sharing her with you on the Emma gun show. Needless to say, all of the links to Vanessa will be in the show notes, so that does include the TED Talk that includes the book cues that includes our other book captivate her YouTube channel, her social media. Eric and James O'Keefe on What We Can Learn From 'Mr. Jones'
"Welcome back folks. I'm talking to James O'Keefe founder of project veritas, author of the new book American muckraker rethinking journalism for the 21st century. So James, I was just referring to this film mister Jones, which talks about Gareth Jones, a Welsh journalist who sees in Soviet Russia in the Soviet Union in the early 30s. What Stalin is doing, which is evil with a capital E but the other journalists, most notably Walter duranty of The New York Times who won a Pulitzer Prize that's never been rescinded for effectively giving cover to Stalin's genocidal murderous regime. But I thought it's so incredible because what the story of the film shows is how one of these reporters, one of these journalists, Vanessa Kirby's character, initially she's basically said, I believe in this communist utopia. And I'm willing to look the other way for the greater good. She eventually changes. But it struck me that that's where Mary very many American journalists are today. They hate Trump so much or they hate something so much that they're willing to overlook the facts, the story. I mean, the most dramatic example for me was the Hunter Biden laptop. When that story got buried by everybody I thought I just feel like my country is dead. You don't have a country if you don't tell those stories. Well, that's true. And in this book, I write about this idea of in journalism. There's always been a tension between access and autonomy. So what I drew from the movie about Jones movie was a study of the potemkin village, so the guy had access to the Soviet Union, and he was being told these things. And these days, journalists, if not narrative Eric, they tend to relay what they're told by the powerful. They just relay it to you. Okay, here's what The Pentagon says. Here's what Putin is saying. Here's what this guy is saying. Well, that's not really journalism. That's more like public relations. So of course, I can't go to these fraudsters. Hi, I'm James O'Keefe. Tell me all the fraud you're committing. They'll never tell me the truth. So investigative journalism is what you really want. You want, okay, you're told X okay, I'm going to go try to disprove X by finding out why. That's not happening anymore. And the reason is not just politics and narrative, yes, that's some of it. It's also economics. It's expensive and it's difficult to challenge the company line or to challenge the government line. And you burn your access to the government. Right. The Biden administration will punish these

Congress Tackles Military Sexual Assault
"And institutional changes in the military that would target the growing problem of sexual violence within the armed forces. Critics and victims say the current practice of reporting sexual assault up the chain of command leads to the little to no justice for the victims and often exacerbates the problem. Defense secretary Austin said that he supports the proposed solution of replacing military chains of command with independent military lawyers. It's a recommendation from the Independent Review Commission on sexual assault and sexual harassment in the military, But I fully support removing the prosecution of sexual assaults and related crimes. From the military chain of command. We are prepared to work with Congress to amend the Uniform Code of Military justice. IRC also recommended the inclusion of others special victims crimes inside this independent prosecution system. To include domestic violence, and I support this as well. Given the strong correlation between these sorts of crimes and the prevalence of sexual assault. The two leading lawmakers on the issue of sexual assault in the military say the proposed changes don't go far enough. New YORK Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in California Congresswoman Jackie Speier have been working with Vanessa Genz family to create I am Vaness AGAIN Act. It was strengthened legal protections and the right to anonymity for whistleblowers, including those who filed harassment complaints would also require an independent prosecution body. To investigate complaints of sexual assault or harassment, thus ending the practice of going up the military chain of command covering up or ignoring reported crimes. And it would make sexual harassment a crime in the uniform Code of Military justice. The legislation stalled in the Congress last year, but Congresswoman Spear

It's one of the most crazy or interesting driving stories. Yeah we were talking before recorded and it's kind of hard to pick something because I guess i'll start by saying that. When i learned to drive i was living in the mountains of colorado about half an hour west meeting up a mountain from boulder colorado and so we got tons of snow in the winter and in the fall actually and sometimes in the spring and so i learned to drive like in the snow in the mountains on dirt roads etc. So i'm like. I know i have a bunch of stories. There was one time in particular wear. The road is very wind e going up and down the mountain. No and. I think i'd had my licenses for probably two or three years by then you know i was a new driver but not super super new new how to handle ice for the most part and i just wasn't really paying too much attention and i went around her and it was slippery and the curve going to the right at. I kept going to the list towards the edge of the mountain road that had no guardrail. Or anything i somehow would happen was my. They taught me in drivers adamant down. Had taught me just kind of kicked in. And i was like okay. I need to take off the gas and look the direction. I wanna go. Turn my wheel in in the direction. I'm going and somehow i just slowly glided up to the edge just

I wanted to serve slot the family into a historical context as well. . Because the both sets of grandparents came from different worlds didn't they? ? Yes. . Nothing. . That was one of the things that I was excited to investigate. . My father's family was really quite educated and very good fun actually and very playful. . They weren't in the grammar school boys and they all went to Cambridge. . And they were ventures and travelers and extraordinary. . Anyhow it was a very enduring marriage and Utah wonderful stories of the courtship and all the rest of it. . It's very beautifully done, , and clearly they had a huge amount of affection for each other. . And for their children, , how would you characterize your childhood? ? Well, , it was sort of heaven really the with very little cash. . My father wasn't very successful barrister in he was slightly forced into it by his father and. . One of the defining characteristics of all of us which is really was really interesting to sort of nail is that we're all dyslexic and both my parents are dyslexic. . They just found schoolwork in academia very difficult and my poor father was sort of shoehorned into being a barrister and he shouldn't have been. . So he was there was never much cash around but. . They were just sort good fund, my , parents and. . They both been through the war and I, , think life was just to you know they'd seen such terrible things experience really quite a lot of hardship and they just wanted to live for the joy of life again and they gave us that in bucket foles and just embraced all K- also adventure and people and everyone was welcome and we had very very happy childhood action. . It sounds like this wonderful big messy household with just lots of lots and lots of animals the countryside I mean does sound so much fun. . Tell me about your siblings then well, , my brother was born in nineteen fifty and I wasn't born until nineteen, , fifty nine, and , then we have assisted in the middle. . and. . We've sort of space do and Richard Got Adhd and he was very very energetic and rather than sort of repressed him I think my parents soon realized that I mean in Heaven Forbid Kids nowadays would be on Ritalin or something and they set him challenges and so my earliest memories were keeping Richard Busy sending him off on on really long bike rides and really difficult things to keep him occupied for the day and lots of mealtimes. . My sister just lovely to me and. . I wanted to be held on Halloween because of the things. . We teased relentlessly and there were lots of sort of games but. . Missed quite interesting. . Now in my mom's still alive, , she's ninety six and I'm sure a lot of people listening to this all recognize this but we all still fall into type as if we're still ten years old. . And we'll. . They then removed home and burn the clothes that they were wearing while trying to burn and dispose of her body in went about their lives confident. They had covered up the crime aside. Vanessa's remains were discovered about a month. Later by some local workers once witnessed his body was identified. The army quickly launched an investigation into what happened. Robinson was quickly identified as a main suspect based on witness testimony again. Not only the fact that he was. The last person is your life but also had the fact that he was loading that tough box into his truck in driving away. Robinson was subsequently held in his barracks on base couple of days later maybe a week later he fled. His barracks only basically escaped and left the base and became a fugitive from aggie. Laura under pressure from investigators started working with c. I d agents she placed a quote controlled unquote call to robinson. I assume that meant monitor or bugged During this call. He never denied anything that they did to vanessa so he kind of went along with it although he didn't actually admit to killing her he didn't deny it either robinson then texted regular photos of the breaking news story so by this time stories of the the murder had kind of gotten out to the local media. The media picked it up and we're running stories about. Hey you know this army. Private first class has been brutally murdered. She's been missing for over a month. her remains were found in the in the middle of the woods and so robinson kind of on the run from the law. He started texting pictures of of the story. And kind of following the story and texting information to aguilar during another controlled call robinson said quote. They are finding pieces. End quote mean. They had discovered the remains so he was kinda feeling the pressure. The people were the investigators. Were starting to figure out things in in you know. They had discovered the body in the heat was coming down again. Robinson was was a fugitive. He was on the run at this point so he texted cecil ian called sicily. Pretty regularly again. you know. Sicily's phone calls were being monitored and they knew that robinson knew that he was in trouble. That things were starting to kind of crackdown and this is kind of proof that that he was involved in was starting to to get pre scared.

Don't think it was I think it was just he the moment he got pissed and attacked her bludgeoned her to death, and then he got her out, but here's my question, and if anyone knows the answer to this, because no matter how hard I tried I can't find the information. Vanessa. says. There was a cover up with the military in Fort Hood that they went multiple times to the base that the military Ford. Hundred particular has not been forthright. They have not been honest and they have not been helpful that they had been withholding information, and they've been very dismissive very dismissive because they don't want bad press. No, they don't so. Here's my question. If you bludgeon someone to death with a hammer. You're going to have a considerable amount of blood splutter. Amount and becomes more like a spray. Especially, if you're hitting them with a capacity and blossom to kill them, so my question is. How did armory get cleaned up? You know that's a really good question. No one I mean I'm not in the military to people frequently come in and out of the armory, like that wasn't a quick job of killing someone and then cleaning everything up, and then having to put her body in a Pelican case, so and so forth I've seen rumors even as of this morning on Vice I believe that there is a potential third suspect. I have seen that floating around actually early on that, there may have been a third suspect. It would make sense. A lot of traffic that goes through the arm rail all the time on basis because you people taking inventory, it's extremely important to know where your guns are right right? You're grenades are aware this. Is this not as okay so you don't want anything to go on account for you have military police, I believe correct me if I'm wrong. I believe you have military place I also take inventory right, and you have people who do fire garden stuff like that that go through, and you also have the the repair people generics. He's an engineer. He's there and you have all these lockers and you have a lot of maintenance that. That takes place. It just makes absolutely no sense to me from what I've heard I've spoken with a few friends who are in the military multiple who were in the air force, a couple who are in the army, and from what I've heard. The armory has a considerable amount of traffic, so either he works at the speed of lights, or there was another person assisting him, so I'm very curious to keep up with this news that there is a potential as of this morning. Even that there there's a third suspect and this that has not yet been arrested though right and here's what's really interesting to me as the. So, Vanessa Ganz Bus frond wanted the memorial service because there was a memorial service was held for like a vigil, those hold for her and her sister, her friend was very vocal about the sexual abuse. I'm so glad that a light has been shown on this case because it's actually really surprising to me. How many people didn't know how often this actually happens? Yeah, I mean it's it's crazy and you know I've actually heard stories this. This kind of culture doesn't just extend a sexual. Sexual harassment it. It goes down the racism to a lot of the time. I mean being a Latina woman she she's going to get less process, and this is actually incredible that she is, but the focus is being put on this case because she deserves it absolutely and other women the future deserve it, and the past people have been victimized survey. I've actually heard so many stories of men of color in the airforce who pushed out, not sexually harass. We're not you know exclude. "vanessa" Discussed on Help! I Suck At Dating with Dean, Vanessa and Jared
"I would just go for the one you like don't even try to go through one brother to get to the other just go after the one you like because then it's going to get messy if you start becoming friendly with one, and then Stu these switcheroo to the the fact that she said, she has no communication with the first brother. So that one's already out of your life done signed sealed delivered. He's no longer yours. Move onto the next brother that you're interested in and might be future with and not have don't even worry about the other guy. So reach out to the one you like without letting the friendly one though. Yup. Go behind his back. Yep. Letter, which which brother which brother name them, shall we? Listen to the once she's really until name him dean Really friendly day eastern. I don't like where this why? Talking about Mark. How which brother do we know she's having contact with the friendly one the friendly one? But what has she mentioned as like text messages, and all that I would be a little bit weary of that. So she's in contact with eastern, but she's not really wants to get with DEA. Yeah. That's what I'm saying tales of time. Advice is to just side swipe in and go straight for dean. I agree for dean go just reach out slow just find him. Why not like a hell of a time? Because it went. I would tell dean, hey, by the way, I know your brother because I would want to start a relationship or already know that she knows eastern, you know, that she knows eastern. Of course, she did a decent for awhile. I would I would I would do Vanessa says, I would tell the other brother. Hey, I know your brother, but I don't know if you wanna. She never dated eastern eastern been very friendly to her. Yes. But the thing is I don't I think if deans not going to carry the way. So like, you might as well, just be honest. So you can be like, hey, I was afraid you because. Okay. Let's call this girl Vanessa because she's a non right? Okay. Well, I'm spending my listening on here of deans not gonna care if Vanessa talked east and that will not stop him from dating Vanessa. No that wouldn't bother dean and my bother eastern finish. It goes straight to without telling you that's saying which is in how got him losing my mind here. No. But I think that eastern will lease preciado Vanessa being honest to dean his brother about knowing each other. Yeah. Instead because I think it'd be a worse look for Vanessa. If eastern goes dean and say, hey, I heard you talking to Vanessa I used to talk Jane's like. like, I didn't know that. Right. But Vanessa tells dean used to talk to eastern think about how much fun it would be this sneak around behind since back. It is very fun. I'm not gonna deny its family so Vanessa if you're like twenty one sure sneak around how some fun, but if you're like twenty nine thirty, and you wanna see her relationship tell dean, they used to talk to Easton took could go to eastern and say look hearing ages don't do that don't do that. If you're great. You're really nice. I'm not interested in anything romantic. But your brother's really interesting to me. Do they set us up? Is there any way should lose? I guess right shoot, my lewiston as a friend, but she's also going to lose potential partner eastern set up his brother with a girl that he likes. He's gonna poison the water either go directly to the sources. And then say, hey, I've also I know your brother, but I would be honest. I know your brother, and like we kind of had a thing or I just know your brother, and we were friends, I would be completely honest just say, you know, her brother don't even say a thing if a girl talking to me. And it was like, hey, you're nice. But I really like Ross who's my brother. I'd be like, oh, great. Let me named. We're gonna get confused as actual actual. If a girl, and I was talking to actually told me like, hey, I like Ross more than let are more interested in Ross. The new Fanta. Yeah. That would hurt no way came up to you. And I like Ross..
