Monthly Rents Skyrocket Amid Record Inflation
"Hey everybody, Tyler Charlie Kirk show. What are the new results out of Ohio mean for the midterms? Email me your thoughts is always freedom at Charlie Kirk dot com, get involved with turning point USA at TP USA dot com or email me your thoughts is always freedom at Charlie Kirk dot com. Buckle up everybody here. We go. Charlie, what you've done is incredible here. Maybe Charlie Kirk is on the college campus. I want you to know we are lucky to have Charlie Kirk. Charlie Kirk's running The White House folks. I want to thank Charlie. He's an incredible guy, his spirit, his love of this country. He's done an amazing job. Building one of the most powerful youth organizations ever created turning point USA. We will not embrace the ideas that have destroyed countries, destroyed lives, and we are going to fight for freedom on campuses across the country. That's why we are here. Brought to you by the loan experts I trust, Andrew and Todd at Sierra Pacific mortgage at Andrew and Todd dot com. I want to lead with this one thing. I have a friend of mine who's a wonderful American from Dallas, whose in real estate, probably one of the top private owners of apartment buildings in the country. And he just said, hey, Charlie, I want you to see these rent inflation crazy numbers. I'm not going to say his name just to, you know, for obvious reasons. But so this is the last 30 movements, okay? So Phoenix, for example, for the last 30, the average prior rent used to be 1325 a month for his and he owns apartment buildings all over Phoenix. Now it's 1693 a month. That means that rent has gone up 27.8% on average in Phoenix. It is last 30 movements. Austin, 23%, San Antonio 21%. Dallas Fort Worth, 18%. North Carolina, 16% Houston 15%. The real inflation rate, I said this the other day, and someone laughed at me, but when they laugh at us, that's how you know we're probably right. I said the real inflation rate is 35%. I said it's right near there. For working people, that's about where it is. If you count gas, you count food, you can't travel. You count all that other stuff. So Andrew and I were talking in the break, he says, I don't know, I don't know, have we peaked too early, Andrew said of Republicans, are we going to be able to sustain this the November? I said, look at these rent numbers. You're trying to tell me people are going to keep the people in charge over this. I don't know, but someone who does know is Richard barris, from the people's pundit, and he's wearing a tie just to make me look bad. Big data polls, Richard barris, Richard. Welcome back to the program. Hey, thanks for having me back. I appreciate it. So a lot to unpack here. Let's start with kind of what happened in Ohio. What does that message send? What is your polling show? How big of a deal is what just happened in Ohio? You know, it's a big deal, Charlie, for the future of the party. The direction of the party, you know, the Trump endorsed candidates outside of JD Vance even did great. There was the first congressional district in Indiana. She won, so, you know, I mean, oh, and by the way, Ohio 9. So that was a race the media definitely was watching and trying to take out, you know, take down the Trump endorsed candidate. He did pull it off and he did incredible in an outside of Toledo, which is where a lot of people thought that Gaborone would do better. You know, so in the end, if you look at where van specifically got his support from, the reason I think a lot of these polls messed up outside of Vance's 100% correct. Outside of Remington, which was pulling for another campaign, they were just wrong. Some of the other public polls didn't really catch Vance's full support because when a pollster does a likely voter model, I suspected this was happening and it did. Those new Trump accounts, they're not really Republicans, Ohio has a lot of them. And they'll tell you, I'm going to vote. I'm likely to vote or I'm certain to vote. But then the pollster will go back and look at vote history and in a primary. If they're not a two out of four voter, meaning they voted in at least two and the last four primaries, they'll get screened out. And because these voters are newly Republican and close primary, they didn't have much vote history and you could see it all over. Mahoning, Youngstown, trumbull, the election day and wood in the northwest, just south of Toledo. That was Trump vote. That is Trump vote. And then Vance did excellent, obviously. In Cleveland, Hamilton county and the suburbs around it. So at the end of the day, it sent a very clear message. The president saw a very strong grip on the Republican Party without a doubt.
How Geotracking by 'True the Vote' Might Have Solved Two Murders
"I talked last week about geo tracking, which is one of the key themes and technologies. That is discussed and deployed in the movie 2000 mules. And in the movie, we talk about the power of geo tracking, the first of all, how it is commonly used in law enforcement. It's used by intelligence, agencies, we all have some experience with it because you travel somewhere, you land, you get a notification from the weather channel about the weather, not where you live, but where you just arrived. And obviously that's because they're tracking your phone. That's how they know where you are. And I mean, the only other option would be someone's following you, which is obviously not the case. Now, to validate geo tracking, truth of vote, the election intelligence organization that we've worked in close partnership with. They are the research foundation for this movie. They had a very, well, kind of a brilliant idea. And that was, and they were having this idea in part because they had presented their findings to the GBI, the GBI is the Georgia bureau of investigation. It's kind of the Georgia version of the FBI. And the GBI was a little bit, they seemed a little bit at sea like, you know, what do we do with this? I mean, not they don't know about the technology, but it is obviously being applied in a new way. And so truth of what thought, well, you know what? Any law enforcement agency uses this kind of technology to solve crimes. What about if we pick a couple of high profile crimes that could have occurred in Atlanta at the very period that we were looking at this geo tracking data? In other words, sometimes between sometime in the weeks and months leading up to the election. That's the body of data we have. What if there were some high profile murders that occurred in the area that we have covered that we have data for? Can we help to solve those murders? I mean, this is an audacious idea because think about it. You have private group doing this. Now we have one case. The case of a young black girl, her name is Sakura Turner, and she was shot in the backing out of a parking lot of a Wendy's. This was during a kind of BLM race riot. And we show in the movie, Greg Phillips is talking about this and he talks about how when you look at the location of the van, the little girl was shot in a van and when you look at the direction and trajectory of the bullet and obviously you look at the time, there are only a handful of cell phone devices that could have, well, that are likely to be the shooter. And remember, the true the vote has those cell phone IDs. Now they don't have the names of those guys, but law enforcement can get the names of those guys like that. How do they do it? Well, they go get a warrant. And then they go to the provider, the cell phone provider and go, who are these guys? And they get their names, and there you go. Those are your 5 suspects. So true to vote then turns this information into the GBI. And guess what? Shortly thereafter, do arrests

Author Andrew Klavan and Eric Discuss 'The Truth and the Beauty'
"Volks welcome back, I'm talking to Andrew clavin. Do you understand? I'm talking to Andrew clavin, he's written a book called the truth and beauty. It's an amazing book. It is at least brilliant, at least, brilliant. And it was just wonderful to read Andrew, I want to say, congratulations on really having the guts to write this book because I can see how a lot of editors or publishers would try to steer you in different directions. And you, obviously, said to them, shut up. Here's the book. And I'm so glad I'm so glad you did. There's only one editor that I could think of. When I finished it and I put it, as you know, I put a lot of work into it, I thought gee, if this one editor turns this down, I simply don't know where else where else I'll go. So Webster Joanne sees now the publisher of zander van, but he was my editor on my memoir, and he took it instantly. I'm not surprised. He would be the one that I would suggest and God bless him for doing that. Because this is an important book, and I think that, as I said, the level of writing what you get into, what really delighted me, as I mentioned this earlier, how you bring to life figures that I didn't really think of biographically. I mean, somebody mentions coleridge, okay, I've heard of the rhyme of the ancient Mariner. You mentioned keats, you mentioned it. These are figures that I had not really come to appreciate as human beings, just as these names behind poems.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey's Latest Spot
"I give you Alabama governor Kay ivy. She's running for reelection. Listen to what she said about the 2020 election. The fake news, big tech and blue state liberals stole the election from president Trump. But here and now a memo, we are making sure that never happens. We have not. And will not send absentee ballots to everyone in their brother. We ban the corrupt curbside voting and our results will always be audited. The left is probably offended. So be it. As long as I'm governor, we're going to protect your vote. Hey, Tracy, can you get allied moving vans? I want to move to Alabama right now. I'm moving to Alabama. I love that lady. I can't get enough of that spot. I told the team, I said, I want that in the open and Eric's like, well, you know, she sounds a little bit out the out there. That's what people are saying.
Andrew Klavan Discusses His New Book 'The Truth and Beauty'
"Folks I can take my conversation with Andrew clavin KLA van, the book out today. It's called the truth and beauty how the lives and works of England's greatest poets, point the way to a deeper understanding of the words of Jesus. And Andrew, part of the fun of this book is being reminded. Because you tell these lovely stories, these powerful, beautiful, funny stories of all these characters and how they interacted with each other because, you know, we think of them as names in the Pantheon. But the idea that Milton, for example, John Milton, who proceeds all of these figures. But that he was a human being. And that he was this kind of a person and not that kind of a person. And how his work led to some of them. I guess it was wordsworth, right? Who was obsessed with Milton? Yeah, he wanted to rewrite basically Paradise lost the story of the fall of man, Milton's brilliant poem on the fall of man he kind of wanted to rewrite it as a mental event. And he never quite got around to it. He never quite did it, but he was obsessed with art behind the news. There's the one piece of bad advice college gave him. He told him he should be writing longer poems, but it was really words with shorter poems that are great. Well, it's so funny. But just the way they all interacted with each other. We forget really that that was the case, at least most of us forget that kind of thing. But you bring them to life. You also talk about keats. I mean, my goodness, he died at age 25. And according to you, and I want to ask you about this, you say that you think he was the greatest poetic genius since Shakespeare. Now there are a lot of poetic geniuses out there. What makes you have that, I guess, judgment about keats, because of course he wrote so little, ultimately, because he died so young, but what was it about keats that makes you kind of put him up there at the top of the Pantheon? It was really the, you know, it's really the truth and beauty his poetry is so beautiful to read and so dense, so packed with meaning the way Shakespeare's is that you could hesitate between two words without ever getting to the end of the way they reverberate off each other. The title of the book comes from him from his ode on a grecian urn in which he's basically contemplating how art leads us into eternity. And the grecian urn says at the end of the poem to humankind, it says beauty is truth, truth, beauty. That's all you know on earth and all you need to know.
LA County Sherriff Cracks Down on Crime
"My guest is LA county sheriff Alex van nueva, and I guess share if you really touched on what he said was a third rail. By daring to talk about black on black crime and the disproportionate amount of crime committed by blacks and the people who are victimized by this disproportionate amount of crime, of course, are the very black people themselves. You're not supposed to talk about that apparently. No, that's not for polite conversation. Do you have to look the other way or pretend? But you know, I'm just focused on actual keeping people alive in particular, keeping black people alive, keeping brown people alive. And I had a conversation with hip hop artists and rappers and I said, why do you live so much short comparison to the philharmonic? How can we get you to live as long as the fill harmonic? A simple question.

Willy Mac's Golf Return Started From the Back of His Van
"And so I went in this crazy golf mode. And it took me freaking forever. I mean, I was hitting, I literally pulled out a pair of Cleveland classic, these manganese bronze blades that I must have got when I was like 14. They were sitting in my, we had this, you know, how you got that little house outside the house, the little, what it shared. You had the shed, and it was all decoys, you know, decoys, waiters, and just shit, grab those and started hitting balls. And the local pro was like, all that will come out here for free and hit up teachers bucket. Or two teachers buckets every day of me and my dad, I said, look, let's give it three months. I mean, I was already an adult, you know? I was 25 years old. It was September October, November of 99. I said, if I show signs of improvement, what do you think? Can we try to figure this out? He said, you God dang right, son. You know, he obviously he wanted me to play when I was young, and I quit. You know? Quit on him. So he's like, dude, I'll do anything in I'll go ask every damn man in town for a $1000. If you're willing to freaking put forth the effort. And he would come out there every day and meet me at lunch. I would go out there like 7 a.m. in my freaking van. I was still living like a hippie. And how would you just grind my freaking ass off every day? And I was like, man, these guys are going to get burned out. These boys that went to college and shit. I'm just going to, they're way better than me, but I'm going to just slow the catch a and hopefully sooner than later. And it took me a while, you know, it took me a while, but I didn't start playing well to probably
Push Digital's Phil Vangelakos on Telling a Politician's Story
"Welcome back to Doug Collins podcast. This is gonna be a fun one today. For those of us who feel in politics, feel Van Dyck is from push digital, big huge comedy, Bigfoot print, great folks. If you need if you're out there and I know I got a lot of candidates who listen to this show and a lot of people in politics. If you're not happy, I'll say this with digital. You need folks like push digits on your side. They're great folks. Can take to the next level because it really campaigns are headed that way. And feeling out is we were just talking here, Phil helped me on the campaign earlier before when I first go into Congress. And Phil, let's just dive right into this because this is going to be fun. I want this to be. We'll ban the names to protect the innocents out of space our own game. Exactly. Exactly. But you mentioned that dirty word, negative mail or negative action. All right, here I'm gonna get it all out for you every year. The reason that contrast piece is negative pieces, negative ass work. Oh, they keep saying, is because they were. Yeah. Tell us, I mean, you do it. Every day. Happy fluffy pieces, fine, negative moves numbers, correct? That's right. It's important to tell a candidate story. It's important to get across what they believe in, but no candidate lives in a vacuum. You run against somebody else. And so you've got to compare and contrast. You've got to create a scenario where you're showing off the differences between your candidate and the opposing candidate and often, especially in primaries when the candidates basically agree on the whole slate of issues. A lot of it comes down to personality. A lot of it comes down to pointing out missteps in previous track records on votes and things. And so really making sure that, you know, you've got that contrast out there for voters to make a decision is important, especially in the final days of a campaign.
"van be" Discussed on Broken Record
"We're back with more of Stevie Van Zandt and Bruce had them. Let's go back a bit and talk about your relationship with Bruce Springsteen. When did you guys first meet? We met on the circuit, you know, the day before The Beatles played at Solomon. There was no bands in America the day after everyone had a band. And most of mostly most immersively stayed in the garage. But it doesn't of us got out. And we all knew each other because it was only literally a dozen bands if that in our area. So we all know each other. And then I started going to the village. I don't know an hour on the bus, but it was, you know, exotic. You know, it was unusual thing to do. I don't even know what would have occurred to me to do that. And they were thought about this before. But anyway, I started doing it and going to the cafe wall and you'd see bands all afternoon and then I'd come home Saturday night. And you would see things that were a year ahead of where New Jersey was. So I would, you know, steal what I could steal and use it with my band, you know? And I started running at the Bruce. Do the same thing. You are thinking about it now. It's pretty weird, you know? We've not only going the same part of town in New York City, but we're going to think club. It was dozens of clubs. So we got friendlier because of that and it started coming up to the city together and I go into his house and he started playing these songs, these writing. He was that far ahead. He was writing even then. You describe him as being very focused. Yeah, he's the most focused guy ever. He just knew exactly where he was going. He knew he and nothing was going to stop him. Nothing because there was no other. There really was no plan B for people like us. I mean, I was a little bit more, you know, I was a little bit more social than he was, you know, I took a bunch of jobs. You were construction. He never did that. Yeah, yeah, no. I don't know if he ever had any other job..

"What do you think very quickly of these LeBron at center lineups that Vogel and now fizdale with coach logo, hopefully we're covering well in health and safety protocols have turned to in the absence of Anthony Davis. Obviously when AD's back, these are going to be a limited part of the rotation, but probably part of it considering Dwight and DJ have done next to nothing this year. Are they viable to you? If they get enough of the supporting guys back, they're fine. I mean, they're fine. I mean, they used it against Houston. I mean, Houston's awful. They'd be Houston by a couple down the stretch. Thank you for saying that because the coverage of that game, we were guilty of it too, was like, stroke of genius, fizdale and et cetera. I'm like, how about the headlines should be barely beat a team that stinks? Didn't they have four guys score 20 or more? I don't know. Yeah. So it's not like I didn't understand what everybody was raving about. They beat Houston on the road. Hey, listen, when you've lost 5 in a row, any wins a good one. I'm not knocking down. I'm not even the move is fine. But the idea that they unlocked something, I didn't understand because they had played with Carmelo Anthony and James before. Like, this isn't like exactly revolutionary. Like, they're trying to get a win, you know, coaching is nothing more than trying to give yourself your best chance to win. And against some lineups or in some teams, it makes sense, but it still comes back to who are the other four guys around James. I can put James anywhere. James, is the type of guy he can everybody knows us. He can play anywhere. So it's who do I surround him with? Do I have enough? Because he'll bring out the best and most guys, you know? And I think what's scary to me is, is this the best of 8 that he can bring out of them? Like, it's just their best and it just keeps coming back to me to Anthony Davis. Anthony Davis is their chance. Like he comes back off of this injury and they're in whatever place they're in. And he's able to have recharged refocused reenergized and plays at a top ten level in the NBA. If he can do that, then they're really dangerous. LeBron had center, they are plus three in a 116 minutes. And you saw last night to your point, those lineups are either so bad on defense that they just have no hope. Like if Carmelo Anthony and Malik monk and Russell Westbrook are out there, you're just, you're just praying. That's all you're doing. That's just prayer, that's basketball prayer. I pray we hit enough threes and they miss enough dunks and threes because they're gonna hunt mellow every single possession. It was interesting to see morant hunt Russ late in the game last night. And then they went defense and they were to have Stanley Johnson and THT out their Stanley Johnson just already like top 5 most essential Laker all of a sudden. And the grizzlies said, okay, well, those guys can't shoot. We're gonna play our big guys just like normal and we're gonna bet that our size is you don't have the speed and shooting to punish us for playing big versus small and they generally won that bet. The I guess the non big lineups, no AD no center without LeBron. So I guess melos at center Russ is the key to those, are -27 and 44 minutes. You can throw those ones in the trash as soon as AD comes back. And just to finish your point on Lakers coverage, I really enjoyed how the headline after Christmas was LeBron overtakes Kobe as all time leading scorer on Christmas as if anyone cares who the all time leading score on Christmas is. And they lost the game. How about you lost at home to the nets? Then that's had one of their three guys and you still lost but LeBron passed Kobe as the all time leading score on Christmas. So all was well. Are you ready for question number two? Yep. Is it time for the Boston Celtics at 16 to 19, tenth in the west coming off a game without Jayson Tatum and some other others in health and safety protocols in which they lost at home to the clippers who are missing lots and lots of people arguably there are three best players and four of their top 5 and shot four of 42 from three four of 42. One of the three was made by Sam Hauser who, or Hauser, I'm sorry, who would not be playing normally. Is it time for the Celtics to explore breaking up jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum? Well, all those possible trade ideas or thoughts. It's all dependent on who you can get. So it's not about, should we break them up? It's about, can we have can we construct a better team through a possible trade, right? And I don't think anybody in this league minus maybe jokic and Giannis, who else, curry, Durant, Durant is untreatable, right? So the idea that Tatum or Brown would get traded, that doesn't, that might happen. But it's funny, it's funny you bring up jokic and I apologize for updating it because this is what this is like how screwed up my brain is. Last night, as I couldn't fall asleep, my brain went to this place..

"Mauve around eighteen eighty. Two vincent experimented with using oil paints instead of watercolors. He also began traveling. The countryside searching for different vistas in areas in order to capture. Nature's beauty vincent would focus his art on landscapes as well as stills and figures. This was a period of extraordinary exploration. For vincent where he was able to work with many different artists styles. Mediums and locations pushing the boundaries of art itself. Vincent would also fall in love with a working woman who would become one of the models that he'd paint. His art would often highlight the day to day lives of the people whom he sheltered with which would often be the poorer in working classes of society. Vincent had been living in brussels for about five years when he created his first masterpiece titled potato eaters in eighteen. Eighty five that next year. Vincent would move to pears to be with theo his brother. It was in paris that vincent was first exposed to impressionist art. Which was all the rage in france at the time. Impressionism was so popular. That feels secretly wondered. If vincent's artwork would be considered at all. Vincent's demeanor as demonstrated with his many conflicts and disputes. With authority figures throughout his life was expressive. To say the least this passionate attitude would cause friction with personal relationships in his life and made it difficult for vincent to maintain working relationships. It was this newfound desire to learn more about eastern culture that influence vincent and his next move to the famous are lay. France are lay. Vincent's lifestyle began to catch up with him and he began to suffer from strange ailments. It was a parent. The vincent's mental health was beginning to decline. As well later on his diminishing health could have easily been attributed to. Vincent's incredibly poor diet in nutrition. It was also reported that vincent was ingesting absent and turpentine both toxic once. Theo became aware of vincent's condition. He recruited a local friend of incense to check up on him while he was in our laying after a short period due to vincent's abrasiveness his friend abandoned him to his own devices. It was around this time when the incident involving the infamous ear was removed. Which is one of the most iconic stories involving vincent mango after. Vincent's friend left him alone. Vincent was seen stuggling around with a razor. It's unclear as to win. Exactly it occurred. But vincent used a razor to remove his ear then went to a local whorehouse he then casually walked up and handed it to a local prostitute. Later on that night. Vincent was found in his room suffering from blood loss in seizures. Shockingly vincent was omitted and dismissed from the hospital. Although it was obvious something was seriously wrong. Sadly vincent would be an out of the hospital over a number of days eventually leading the townspeople in the city. Where he'd lived to declare him as dangerous as such. Vincent was asked to leave his home and decided to admit himself to asylum essentially hoping for a full recovery. It was while. Vincent was in the asylum that he was asked if he could provide his paintings for an exhibit around november eighteen eighty. Nine vincent would provide several including his two most famous paintings. It was also while in asylum that vinson received word that a coveted doctor would take him on as a patient with this news. Vincent left the asylum and move to all vers to be closer to his doctor and here comes the most tragic faded twist. And vincent's life. It was while in all hers. The vincent would meet his most mysterious end on the morning of july twenty seven. Eighteen ninety vincent was spotted leaving his room and carrying his paint supplies heading towards a surrounding field and order to practice painting landscapes. What isn't quite known is what exactly transpired in that field. There are many possibilities. And when you examine the evidence you can come to your own conclusion. But i'll let you guys know my take a quick second later on that afternoon. Vincent was found in his room bleeding from a gunshot wound to his chest. There's a big split in the consensus as to how vincent actually received that gunshot wound. Some people believe he shot himself while some believe he was shot by another person. I'm on the side of. He was shot by another person. After his discovery vincent was rushed to a nearby hospital. Who alerted his brother. Theo to his condition feel of course rushed over as soon as he possibly could. It was reported that feel found vincent sitting upright in his bed smoking a large pipe seemingly palyed. But well vincent and. Theo sat and talked for a few days before. Vincent asked theo to take him back to his home. Two days after being shot. Vincent van gogh would pass away with his brother right by his side on july. Twenty ninth eighteen ninety at the young age of thirty seven. Theo who was suffering from his own health issues would pass away within six months of his brother. It was feels wife joanna who went about the work of collecting all. Vincent's work to ensure that it was preserved. "Van. Halen that you. You know what. I'll tell you one of the things that used to frustrate the hell out of me about seeing van. Halen live always was frustrated by david. Lee roth i always wished that he would like really focus and concentrate on the lyrics instead of the dancing in pandering to the crowd and whatnot. You know so that used to they used to frustrate me and the reality of it is is as time went by in this probably because you know whiskey drinking smoking pot us in and really kind of screaming your young years as you get older. Your body can't handle that stuff. David lee roth lost his voice. Any never fucking got it back but one of the things that we haven't talked about. Have you ever listened to the van. Halen reunion album a different kind of truth. No this some good stuff on there. I'll probably never listened to it. Thank you thank you very much to say. What about the gary sharon years. Oh the year mismatch. And it's it's too bad. Gary talented guy. But the problem with that record was wasn't gary sharon's vocals or how we fit in the band or not. It was the songwriting worrying for japan. That was it. They never toured japan. no they they. They played the states but he wanted they. They never went to japan so he took them. They went to japan with him and unfortunately japan saw him. Which they probably didn't care is is that true. I can't believe that van halen never played japan from what i understand. That was the thing they had never gone to japan. They nine hundred. All the tour dates nope europe. And you see no way. I don't believe it. Well prove me wrong bringing. I'll bet i'll bet you seven dollars. Yeah yeah i'll say there was. Actually i pit you. Fifty one dollars and fifty cents. Fifty one fifty. Then there was. There was actually another lead singer. Who never really. They never did anything with them. 'cause he bailed he's No i'm not. I'm not doing this. Who is that. I forget his name wandered. Yeah the blonde do ya. Yeah i don't think he said no. They moved said it was very hard to work with. He he bowed out he was. He said he was kinda. He bowed out gracefully. Like i don't think he bowed out. I think that they abandoned him. I think they moved back to roth or they is. That is that what eddie said i. That's who they may have been. But by the way when david lee roth was either fired. Let go would've whichever you believe. One of the people that they actually considered to join. The band was patty smyth from scandal off. That would have been. I remember that. Patty smyth and valerie bertinelli were friends in patty smyth in the band scandal. Shooting at the heart of heartbreak bank reorient. Okay yeah you'll she could sing but total mismatch. Yeah a lot of other women could saying. Better brought pat bamut benetton. Now you're gonna bring in female singer that drawing female singer the the sad thing about van halen is that eddie is now gone and he may have blamed it on putting metal guitar picks in is in his mouth and being surrounded by electronics but the big smoking big reserves a giant smoker in a big drinker and whatnot and that stuff takes its toll unfortunately affected him in a bad way and we lost a genius and before he passed sammy hagar in him made amends and they would text each other. You know 'cause that he couldn't talk they would text each other back and forth and that's a good thing michael anthony on the other hand. I'm sure was hurt. But they did him bad. We can circle back to that. They did in bad. There was no reason for that. They bring in wolf e wolfgang van halen who his group. Mammoth just backed up guns and roses the other night. At the at the at fenway park. Is someone say. Have you ever listened to any of his stuff. No no not yet not yeah so not opposed to it that oppose talented kid. No question about an download. He unfortunately is going to be saddled with vanhanen's kid. You're trying to steal your father son thunder. You're at least kind of riding on his co. tails but he's did name mammoth he he he did you know. No no question about it. Video well john bonham sunday and his group barnum he he. He also played every instrument on the record and and there are some people out there that really you know like some of the stuff that he's done. I haven't listened to it that he was on the howard stern show and he played a couple of songs. And it's impressive. Yeah he He was sixteen when they took him on tour. Sure you're still in high school. Sure so he used. I guess eddie he said oh he had it the worst he would. He was two to three or four hours a day. Then he had to go practice for the gig and then do the show. Then get up for school the next day but think about that you sixteen years old. Okay you're in high school but you're in awe with van halen all it's father and your uncle and.

"Pops out. Yeah well it was successful it a lot of people today still don't buy into it a lotta purist. But i didn't at first but that's the beauty of music right so you go back in when when the hype dies down you give it a listen and you start to like like i was like i said i kinda quietly liked a couple of songs from eight one to you know what the videos were good. That's his is the thing for me. In and i do like some of the sami stuff. I do agree. Totally different banned. Totally different vibe. Totally different style. You know in sounded if you will and you gotta give sammy. as credit. he did not have to join van. Halen at a pretty successful solo career going on started on started off with montross back in the seventy s had a solo career going. And you know. I can't drive fifty five and whatnot certainly wasn't at the level of van halen but it was no bomb. Even you know for me. I think the transition went those early van. Halen albums were fucking great albatross. The van hagar years. They were great songs but not necessarily great albums from start to finish. In my opinion. I have no argument with you. I have no argument. With the i mean they. I've never honestly truth. Be told i've never listened to an entire album with sammy. Hagar the second one. Oh you eight one. Two i think is a great record from start to finish. But i think that's the only one you know the for the first one is some great cuts on it. There's some there's some clunkers in there or you. Eight one two is is great. Fifty one fifty was a good album. Fifty fifty one fifty was. There was some good stuff on there. I didn't love from start to finish. But it was still a roth guy in remember with remember. David lee roth space. First solo album in fifty fifty came out about the same time so there was a lot of comparisons. And i was a david lee rob guy. I thought that that band was tighter. I thought they were grittier. I thought the songwriting was a lot better. It's just my opinion. I thought they really gelled one. Two out for For lawful unlawful. Whatever it is was was pretty good you know and then balance. I thought it was a terrible record. I thought i think they fell off on that late. Just semi hagar actually wanted to name an album fuck just because that was when the censorship you know the tipper gore and that's just a fucking dumb idea it's just a dumb idea while he got it from he column carnal knowledge. I mean he got across. That was one of the things that drove me. Nuts about sammy hagar. Is that double entendre. Bullshit that he tried to do. It wasn't that clever. Did you write double. did you say double entendre. Yeah you like that. I don draymond genre. Tra don't fancy teaboy. He china trying to impress. You know what i love about. David lee roth when they asked him the way he says. Double entendre right. Double entendre. the giant recovery buddy. Sammy is a better thing of the david. Lee roth technically. But but semi. Hey sammy technically is a better singer. Than mick jagger who would you rather here. Yeah i know what i mean. I and i'll tell you one of the things that are really loved about david. Lee roth was his smart ass attitude he actually said in an interview. He was like sammy. Hagar's a great singer. He was like. But i am these singer. But i'm what these singer from these things as far as van halen. You know. I meant to get this out earlier and i don't wanna i wanna keep talking about. You know the the second. The van halen with sammy. Hagar there was a there was an episode backstage in addressing something when David lee roth would get on any venezuelans nerves and eddie van halen at one show backstage actually through an entire bowl of guacamole at david lee roth right but he misses them. Completely in hits steve perry. That's that's right so the rumor. Is that steve. Perry ride cried. Cried cried because he got hit with a bowl of guacamole. Go when one thing that i can assure you of is as i'm never ever going to be able to sing like steve perry but if more appropriately when you throw a bowl of guacamole at me i will not cry. I will not cry. I'll tell on next time we get together mexican so so they van hagar is. They called it the head some so. Actually you do you. And i have some songs. Let's kinda give them their due to so you gave me four songs. I have four songs. You have from the second incarnation.

"Yeah. Get my blood pumping through the state. Scott scott just before you actually go into your next on these great choices by the way. And i thought that one of the i know the. It's a podcast. I'm so one of the things that people should know is a lot of these records. Van halen one van. Halen to van halen. Three there were recorded in like a couple of weeks or a week or a couple of days. In between tours result was recorded in one day. they were working class band. Didn't take them years or a year to put these. Why because they fucking came up in the seventies when you earned that's nice pitches. That's what you did right. So but i agree with you. They would just they were. They were just so then we move on for my what is it. This is my one to my third song from fair warning. Great great song here about it later right now. Everybody got if you listen to. She gotta go download this stuff. This is great stuff that you probably haven't listened to in a long time or never or never. I'm sure people watching have heard it but you know a lot of people. Yeah he'd meet but say that edge right that edge that you're playing that muniz that's what the the hagar era lacked. They will polish that was shiny. They were fun. You know right. Roth roth brought that great. So then let's see. That was here about it later. From fair wanting now this is my fourth one of my fourth favourite again. Not necessarily anyone. It's played a lot but it's still a great fucking song. Great song again the vicious guitar in rock to screaming like a lunatic everyone. Everybody wants from women and children. I we get a discount. Eighty-five no no eighty four eighty eight. I mean not. Eighty eighty three eighty eight nineteen eighty.

Richard tavira won the album if somebody if they seventh king call in answer which is the third cut off of the fourth van halen album. This record is yours so you did. I asked you for your five favorite van halen songs now like i said this is where the the livestream get cut. 'cause facebook has an issue with just just play low bit. I will obviously just these on any articulate order of your five just with the first one is just think of you weiner. Oh hey now that could have said something. I won't anyways because you think of it all the time. It's not my fault here. We go from van. Halen one good choice now buddy. There's no arguing on any of these right right. I'm the one from van halen one. This is your second one. You one of your choices. Like i said not in any particular here. We go from van halen to light up the sky. Good choice buddy. I like it. I like it right so trying to cut these a little bit short number three. This is kind of a. This is kind of a kind of a deep cut from women and children. I in a simple rhyme under under played under recognized. I'd call it a deep tech. It really is. I saw that. I was kinda surprised too right there. You go stretch that one. I good choice good choice. What are we on number. So we're going to go to a number four from fair warning again. You can't wrong with any of these. No you really can't right. I was busted policy. "Shot in hell pretty much. Probably one of the only mistakes. Gene simmons ever made businesswise because that guy never makes a wrong move and we're not gonna go off on him you know. He's he's an interesting guy but you know what they are. Van halen is in a long line of bands that were rejected initially from record companies. You too was rejected by you. Know twenty or more record companies. The pretenders rejected by record companies. The fucking beatles were rejected by record companies. Because somebody didn't hear it or somebody didn't know how to market it or somebody was goddamn fucking lazy bryce and going back to the beginning. Of course you know you know. But i don't know if the listeners know that originally eddie played the drums and alex played guitar. Yeah when when they were kids. Yeah in eddie. Was out working in alex sneaking and play his drum kit finally he said you know what just fucking switch. I don't care. I don't care. Switch instruments just stay there right so then they move on right and they get. Did they get discovered and the first album comes out. What seventy eight seventy seven. The first album came out in seventy seven. And i think it was seventy seven so that same year that they got turned down by the record. Company did the demo gene simmons. I'll check my My rectangle i always thought it was seventy but either way you may be right and then from that point on the legends. Were born right. Well not before. Then so here's is one side note that that you may not know is that when they first started recording van halen and they recognized that they had an immense talent in this band but even back then in those early days there was some concern amongst the record company so they were signed to warner brothers records and they had the brothers had concerns as did the producer. I believe that david lee roth vocals were not as strong as they could be and they actually considered. I don't know how far they actually took this. But they considered replacing. David lee rob before first came out and they had a number of different lead singers considering including sammy. Hang on. maybe that's why they went after him after. David lee roth right so the komo. If if you if you look at some of those early gigs. One of one of the early Tours of van halen. They were an opening act and they were on like. I've seen a concert poses where they were. The opening acts of boston was the headliner in journeying van. Halen in sammy. We're all on the same bill back then. Imagine that l- little foreshadowing. Yeah so you know. Seventy seven seventy eight van. Halen one comes out classic album one of the greatest seventy greatest debut albums in music history and they take off. So what is your favorite van. Halen album believe it or not. I mean i think that van halen one is a flawless album. I don't think there's a song that's bad. That's bad on that as a matter of fact. Guide the original catalog and you to remember take into consideration. That was i was a van. Halen free back. Well we all we all were. Yeah yeah anybody. Anybody that grew up in winthrop knew that. But i was bigger fan of van. Halen to then. I was Vanhanen one only for the fact that venue in one was so played so much that i liked some of the things that you didn't hear so often i think van halen to is a song for song. We've had this debate. I've said this van halen song for song is I think a better album. But i'm a second album guy i've for some reason. Van halen to like better than van. Halloween candy oh i like better than the cause debut. Who else was there. I was just thinking. Oh arrowsmith i like get your wings more than featuring dream on. I always like second album for some reason. I don't know if it's just the thing. But yeah you know. I i have to tell you. I mean from from my perspective personal feelings aside. You look at what they accomplished with van. Halen one mazing out doesn't mean. I'm not a great album. Yeah on paper van. Halen one is a better in van. Halen too. I just like van halen to better yes. It's a fantastic fantastic. So but benway van halen won the fucking audacity who puts a guitar solo on an album. Nevermind album debut album right. So okay eruption. The story behind eruption is he was an even helms warming up for a gig. You'll before a gig. He's in the studio and the producer walks by his that he says the what's that he goes he's just well. Maybe who get that on tape so that was so they said okay and he does it in to the day he died eddie van halen said i could have done that better and he picks out mistakes like we think it's a masterpiece right this fucking genius. He hears he goes. I made a mistake at the top of this and then you know. I should have done this over here. I could have made it better really but his his thing. And i think some people kinda miss this especially if you think if you look at like progressive rock prog rock you know. People want absolute perfect scales and whatnot. We as listeners as readers as observers of art we love the mistakes we have those little flaws me you think about the beginning couple of cords of roxanne right and a lot of people may not know this but you know when roxanne was being recorded sting backs into a piano. And he that laughed at he does is because he bumps in in it. That's magic man. Oh i didn't know that either. Good good for good info is that with makes the noise. That do new. Yeah yeah that really. He backs into appeal. I never knew that. How did i not know that son of a bitch. That's good info party. But this is this is what this show is about of the is me educating you about hall. I'm here to help you brother. I'm your eddie van. Halen to your alex van halen. Okay all right listen. When was the first time you saw them in consett. Nine thousand nine hundred ninety nine hundred eighty boston garden the van halen invasion tour me and my friend greg porter. July twenty fifth nineteen eighty god. God rest his soul. My friend greg porta who passed away last week. He and i literally skip school. Snuck on the train went to the boston. Garden waited in line in brought our nine dollar.

"A big show. Like i said two words than freaking halen. We're going to get right into it. So without further ado let me bring it on my co host. The atomic punk himself calabrese now aged. I got a lot to cover here. What's that ami. okay. Thank i can hear you working on a little technical difficulty during this episode. But that's okay. We'll get through it. Have you seen junior's great scott the. It guy is not. He's definitely he's in and out of that hot sauce money he makes it and then he doesn't so all right buddy you ready to do a good show. I'm ready to do a good show. All right van halen where to begin. So they were seventies band technically. It's hard to believe that right. Well informed in one thousand nine hundred seventy four. yeah a mayor amir ameer four years after jimi hendrix past. Isn't that crazy doesn't even. It's like they've been around that long or they weren't they. Were around that long. And then if you come back and you look at their that their touring Those websites that have toured tours and set lists. It's like seventy four seventy five seventy say like they were crazy then. They were torn not back. They were a working-class band. They certainly were. They certainly were. Do you know who the last member of van halen was to join. The last member borough But the burn. You mean like the original lineup original lineup. I would say it was michael. Anthony yeah i mean that's kind of a. It's not a no brainer question for us. it is He met alex van halen. At what in sending in college san diego they were going to like some conservatory of music right and they hit it off and he introduces them to eddie but what he was basically used for the beginning is they. They use his amps. They were like hey. Can we borrow your apps. Can we borrow this and eventually asked to join the band. Great move absolutely great move. I mean first of all. I mean underrated bass player rudimentary in terms of what he did. He was no getty. Lee jordan win whistle. Chris squire from yes but those backing vocals well i. That's that's one of the things. I wanted to talk about. 'cause everybody can talk about eddie van halen and we'll get to eddie van. Halen you know in david lee roth but the two that never get talked about as it is usually with any band right. Is the drummer and the bass player. But michael anthony. I think was a very underrated bass player that he was driving driving bass in those songs. It's almost like whites in k. From rage against the machine. I mean rage against what she wouldn't have that sound without his base. Yeah it's it's You know it's one of those things. Where michael anthony is. His base playing drove it had a funk and had a rhythm but it it didn't have the wasn't a fancy flashy play right right so he wasn't he wasn't getting league going up and down the fret for he kept the bottom edge he was he was the dusty hill of van. Halen good comparison. Yeah fair enough fair enough. Yeah i'll tell you. And by the way i don't know if i'm jumping ahead or not. He's the one guy variant halen that got absolutely fucking screwed all so we can go on. We can cover that later if you want to know you know. It doesn't matter we're going to cover whatever we cover but you know again. We can talk about eddie van halen for two hours. Sure he's he's a master a genius but michael anthony did so speculation is that he got kinda kicked out of the band because he owns a hot sauce company and he does like hot. Mustards and stuff like that. And any thought he was spending too much time doing that. But there's an interesting side story to that. Also so he thought he was committing too much time to his business and not the band so supposedly that's why he gets kicked out but he was also friends with sammy. Hagar so semi hagar in eddie van halen had a falling out in a big part of that falling was eddie van. Halen didn't like the fact that sammy hagar spending so much time in kabul and put his time into that so it sounds to me where on the street was that event hill and was kind of an asshole anyways he was control-freak he was he was a complex guy. You know so he was. He was a genius in in some ways. Short like most genius. You can attest to this part genius in this power train wreck. Yeah yeah. I think he. He was a total control guy. Yeah absolutely total. Control guy. He i think he you know eddie. Van halen was completely dedicated to the band in expected. The same but eddie had his own side projects as well. That was the deal that they had the band had. They had a deal no side projects and that was kind of thing throughout the early career. Yeah but he did. A solo album with with brian. May he played on. Beat it. okay so beat it. He played on. Beat it with no credit right. He didn't get credit. Did a favor to quincy. Jones asked him to do it. And he said yeah. Give me a case of beer. And and michael can give me a dance lesson somewhere in the future. He also said in wanting money. 'cause it would complicate things. He didn't want it to get any. He said that the it now. This is at the time. He said that we're really not supposed to do side projects. That was a thing within the band so he did the beat thing without a credit but everybody i mean it was distinctly eddie van halen guitar. Of course no one was. No one was mimicking that it was. It was the michael anthony in quincy. Jones were no dummies. They recognize that if they were able to get into play on that song that they would have a crossover hit. I mean for crying out love for those of you. That are listening right now. There was a rock station in boston. Called wbz and that played. Rockin never play michael jackson until and they did played a couple of times they played. Beat it so another interesting story behind. That is he played it. he played it in one. Take i believe it was something like that. And he was in the studio. With quincy and michael and michael left the studio and eddie kind of said. Okay do this. I want you to shop this. Put this in you know. Move this over here and then blah blah blah however he did it without michael no in and then he did it.

"Here are a few opinions. One individual says fan life was not so fun by the second or third month. It was not a very pleasant experience. I was getting pretty lonely and it was pretty boring to have the van parked in one place all the time i thought about taking it on the road but i was pretty sure it would break down and i'd be screwed also. Let's be honest when you are living in a van. You're dating prospects are not good. Isn't that the truth. And let's be real. There are people who thought van life would be different and called it quits on van living after a while like this person says here so after three months i took an awesome job doing ios development and moved out of the van now. I'm going to try to sell the van. But i need to fix the dead battery. I it's just sitting around and doing nothing a right now. Van living is a way to save money. It really is but it requires capital work discipline and most people. Don't last that long doing this. The two most common reasons for quitting van life are the stress of finding a place to park at each night. A his sounds horrible and the loneliness of the solitary existence equally horrible. One van dweller chronicled her life living in a van but after five years she gave up the van life to settle down with her partner and that worked out great. I guess some things just have a stronger pole than the call of the open road. The need yes for companionship. But if you think you might enjoy this life go online because there is plenty to read read the blogs visit the facebook groups. There are plenty of van. Life meet ups you can find on social media from so low women meet ups to meet ups and places across the country that van dwellers go to every year or every so often to reunite with old friends. I find myself now. Coming to the end of this episode. And i would be remiss if i forgot to mention again. The older van dwellers that need to live in their hands and need the meet ups and need to be with their friends. And so i have this quote from an older van dweller that has many many friends all across the country. Home isn't something you own. It's something you take with you so now. My question to you is simple. Have you ever lived in a van or have you ever thought about living in a van. I would love to know email me. Talk tells and trivia at gmail.com. There's a trade off though you gotta learn how to take care of your own crap and that is so true literally and figuratively all of the true life than dwellers are very very much like the character fern end. This movie nomad land that i recommend highly. She finds herself living and a sad situation needing money and help from anyone who can give it to her. So before i continue with this let me start with the definition of nomad. I know i know you guys know what the definition is. But i wasn't sure so here. It is no med. Means that a person has no permanent abode but moves about from place to place a wanderer travel sometimes seasonally an often following it traditional route. According to food supply or acquaintances met along the way. It sounds so kind of cool right. Doesn't it sound so check karaoke. But it's kinda not when you don't have a choice and if you were to go onto youtube you would find many people that vlag about their own van dweller life experiences. And there are plenty of blogs there are two distinct types of van dwellers the younger twenty to thirty age group millennial types that are hanging out and living life by traveling out of choice. Well here's a perfect example of this type of van dweller and this is not a joke. Her name is steffi lee. And i went on to youtube and i found her by accident but she is a verified. Van life lover on youtube. Who does youtube videos. She left her van life behind recently because of the cold weather and the pandemic two very good reasons but she says this about van life and her lifestyle and general. I just want to be me and not fall under a label of what people think i should be and that is so true. I can totally understand that What perfection that quotas to describe this lonely nomad lifestyle just being who you want to be not what anyone else thinks you should be. But nowadays steffi isn't exactly lonely especially because she has found a nice fellow van dweller. She rented a house and plans on leaving the van life for right now but she had always had choices right. Steffi twenties has a supportive family that helped her get the van altogether and paid for most of the van upgrades steffi really just wanted to live the van life she did not have any economic downfalls for choosing the life she chose she just thought it was cool and it is. She saw friends met new friends. Travel to some fantastic places had a cool place to.

"Episode is on van living and the van dwelling life. Let's start with a couple of questions here. What would happen if this past year. Found yourself without a job. Depressed sick unable to pay your basic living expenses like rent or any other situation that you might not have expected. Suppose you became house helpless through no fault of your own. Suppose someone had passed away in your family. Have you given that much thought. Well i hadn't either until just recently. I finished watching nomad land. It's a movie that my sister recommended. Some let's talk a bit about the movie that won the oscar this year. Well nomad land is a twenty twenty american drama film based on the two thousand seventeen nonfiction book no-man's-land surviving america and the twenty first century by jessica bruder. The film is written edited produced and directed by cleal show and stars francis. Mcdermott as van dweller. Working nomad who leaves her hometown after her husband dies. This is what i was telling you about. The unexpected happens. The main character fern finds herself house lewis and now travels around the united states and a van. One of ferns friends says something strikingly true. Though i love this lifestyle. It's a lifestyle of freedom and beauty and connection to the earth. There's a trade off though you gotta learn how to take care of your own crap and that is so true literally and figuratively all of the true life than dwellers are very very much like the character fern end. This movie nomad land that i recommend highly. She finds herself living and a sad situation needing money and help from anyone who can give it to her.
