"Thanks to our sponsor this week, Valvoline motor oil, Valvoline provides 24 times stronger protection against engine killing water contamination than the industry leading synthetic brand. Now you might be asking Nolan, how the heck does water get in my engine? When gasoline burns, okay? It produces water or condensation as a byproduct of combustion. I know. That's what you see dripping out of exhaust pipes. Most gasoline though contains up to 15% ethanol, which further increases the amount of water produced. Newer engine technologies, like stop start and shorter trips, can make it even harder for your engine to heat up enough to burn that water off. Thus, water contaminates your engine. And by the way, water is a terrible lubricant. Moisture can build up in the engine if it's not neutralized by a high quality motor oil. That's why you need Valvoline. All vowel in oils exceed in its two standards to provide the ultimate protection for every engine on the road. So if you know how Valvoline in your car yet, you're messing up big time, I've got it in my car, get some for your car today. Valvoline, thank you very much for sponsoring past gas. "Andre shifted the focus of the factory converting it into a plant to develop and mass produce a small and affordable automobile. Like Henry Ford, Andre wanted to change the image of the car from something only the rich owned to a practical item the working class could afford. The citron automobile company was officially founded in 1919, and became the first European company to produce cars on an assembly line. Wow. I find it interesting that a lot of the small cars that we've covered in this show are made right after a war. Yeah. Like the beetle well, there is a reason for that. A lot of times they repurpose this manufacturing equipment to make a really cheap, really economical, usually work vehicle. It was like the ape piaggio in Germany, it was the beetle. In France, it was citron. You need like, yeah, you got to get something that'll get your industry back up on its feet, something easy to produce. That was kind of the deal with the isetta as well. It's like, here's a cheap car that people need. They don't have a lot of money to spend on a transportation, but we need to build it out of necessity. So yeah, I think that's a good point there. Meanwhile, in America, we had big cars because we won. Yeah, we never got hit. So it's a slide. We got a lot of space, big roads, big cars, big nuts. Let's go. On May 28th, 1919, the company's first car was put in production. The Citroen type a the type a was the first mass produced car in Europe and featured a straightforward and simple design. The initial model was powered by an efficient four cylinder engine and featured an electric starter, lights, spare tire and a top speed of 40 mph. Those are actually for 1919. Having an electric start is pretty big, I think. That's cool. But the type is biggest appeal was its price point. The car cost only 7205 French francs, which was the equivalent to around $500 in 1920, about 5000 bucks today. The type a was the first inexpensive French car to be sold at standard prices with basic accessories. Before it was made available to the public, word got out about the low cost type a even before the first public demonstration of the vehicle, thousands of orders for the car poured in. After a massive advertising campaign, 16,000 orders have been placed in only two weeks, and 30,000 orders were reached before the car had even left the plant. And citron's first year of business, they produced 2000 cars. The following year they quadrupled that number, selling 8000 in 1920. This solidified citron as the leading manufacturer of automobiles in Europe. So those 16,000 orders, if you're on the end of that, you're waiting at least 24 years. Two years later, in 1921, citron came out with the B two, a more powerful version of the type a with stealth capabilities and intercontinental ballistic missiles launching a capable way ahead of their time. No, that's a little card. It's not the bomber. Sorry. This time B two offered an increased speed of 45 mph. The following year, they dropped the 5 CV, a small two seater that went up to 36 mph. This particular model was marketed towards a yet untapped market. The lady driver. Most of the models were yellow, so the car was given the nickname, the little lemon. Titus a 5 CV citron. We drove the isetta pre recently and I want a quirky car at some point. Yeah. Like and is that this 5 CV, if you've seen that, this was on Top Gear one time when they did like a super classic car episode. I could just be cool to have something that I'm not concerned with going fast or like handling or whatever. It's just like purely owned on merits of cuteness, for sure. It'd be fun. I saw a Ford model a last weekend on my way to this BMW thing. And for one of the first times ever, I was like, I get it. That guy's having a good time. I was like, by the beach. Yeah. And he was going super slow, and he was just putting around. And then we shot a video at the track where he put Ford model a tires and wheels onto our Miata. And we drove it around. And seeing the top of your wheels turn is so sick. All right, so cool. And it made me really want to drive an old open wheel hot roddy kind of. Straight 16. That'd be sweet. Like, what was the fastest car in the world in 1919? That's what I want to drive. Were you just like pulling levers? Yeah, it takes 6 people to drive it. One of them has to be a kid. But he needs black lung. Well, he's going to get it. He's got to get black one. He's in a tube. He's the only one that can fit in the engine car. Citron, pioneered discount and credit sales, and even repayment plans that would extend from 12 to 18 months. Though the company was ahead of its time in terms of marketing and providing low prices the public, Andre citron wanted to show off his company's innovations, no matter what the cost might be. Do you think all the French army guys in 1920? Yeah, they're signing up and buying citroens of their bonus. At 20 5% APR. Did you get a little lemon? A little lemon. It's America versus France. We have the hellcat. I prefer cute stuff, so. Give me a little lemon. We'll be right back with more of this story, but first, a word from our sponsors. The origin story of funny cars begins with top fuel drag cars of the early 60s. These super long, I want to reiterate super long. 300 inch wheelbase wedges were fueled by those same 500 cubic inch monster motors that would accelerate the vehicle from starting line to quarter mile in well under four seconds and more than 300 mph. In the mid 60s, a couple of drag masters by the names of Jim Nelson and dode Martin. Oh, my bad. My bad, it's pronounced dodie. A couple of drag masters by the names of Jim Nelson and dodi Martin took a long hard look at those top fuel drag cars and thought, you know what? Those bodies are a little silly. Why can't we go that fast in a normal car? Just so they set about figuring out how to do so. These two guys grabbed a handful of 1964 Dodge three 30 max wedges and yanked the four 26 Hemi's and dropped in stroked 480 cubic inch top gas engines. Not the same kind used in top fuel dragsters, which made them technically funny gassers and not top fuel cars. But these cars were turning out high ten quarter mile times with speeds above a 130 mph. While super stock cars of the time were only hit in a 120 mph, 11 second quarter mile runs. This earned a big yee haw all around. People like going faster. People like ten second cars. That reminds me, man. You both owe me a ten second car. What? Yeah, dude. I thought we talked about this. No, we can talk about it off air, but you both owe me a ten second core. All right. This is so you treat family? Yeah, come on, man. You can have any beers like this. In 1965, dandy. God, I wish I lived back then, man. In 1965, dandy dick landy was the first person to compete in what would eventually become the funny car class. He rolled a 1964 Dodge coronet onto the green line in blue some freaking mines by post in ten second quarter miles at a 130 mph at the riverside dragway, 50 miles east of Los Angeles, where we currently reside. I think that's cool, too, with a lot of these old racing stories that we cover. This stuff happened right down the street from our houses. And right down the street from the donut studio. It's very cool to me. I mean, there used to be tracks all over SoCal. Lions, drag strip over and Long Beach, rivers, the aforementioned riverside had one of the longest road courses in America. And it was like a legendary course. And near grandpa was hanging out with all these dudes, right? My grandpa did work for Keith black for a little bit. My great uncle, uncle bob was one of Keith black's master engine builders. They went into business together and Keith black race engines supplied a lot of these engines for a lot of the guys that were talking about here. So Nolan's uncle built the motors we're talking about in this episode. Yeah. Pretty cool. Very likely. Great uncle. Bob. But it wasn't just the neck breaking speed that caught everyone's attention. These cars looked a little funny. The body was entirely fiberglass over a lightweight body structure. Chrysler's engineers then tossed out the rule books and started messing around with the wheelbase. They shoved the front wheels ten inches forward to the point where they almost touched the front bumper. And in the back, they slid the axle 15 inches forward, leaving almost 25% of the car's butt hanging in the wind. Yeah, they're pretty weird looking. Indeed, Nolan, they did look funny, but the speeds that they brought to the table was deadly serious. Like a will forte character. Dandy dick made a name for himself with huge wheel stands and big W's on the board. That year he won 39 out of 40 meat. Wow. Doesn't even seem fun. The NHRA treated them like the cevo du jour and tried to legislate them away so they could get back to normal drag racing. So they shoved them in the fuel dragster classes to compete against cars that weighed half as much and had twice the horsepower. But dandy dick landy wasn't the kind of guy to stay down. Dude, I wish my name was dandy dick landy. Your big Jim pumphrey. Yeah, it's a big Jim guarantee. Is this a new development? This is one of our oldest bits. And that's big Jim guarantee. I think someone asked me, what would you be doing if you stayed in Louisville? I was like, I'd probably work at a car dealership. Yeah. And big gyms forward. Big gym shelbyville forward. If you can do some sort of dare, then they have to buy the car. If I finish this ten pounds of tuna raw tuna, then you gotta buy this four to corner line. Or in the inverse. If you can finish this 12 pound burrito in under 45 minutes. I'll give you the extended warranty for free. And on oct ten K off the asking price. That's Jim guarantee. It's Thanksgiving, folks, and that means the turkey challenge is back. If you can eat a ten pound bird in under four hours, that's a tiny turkey. It's there percent financing..

"It's awesome looking. It has like rivets all over it. Oh, nice. McQueen nicknamed his the green rat, which he drove the hell out of constantly ripping up and down mulholland. He racked up a pile of speeding tickets and got his license suspended twice. The LA county sheriff got so annoyed that he made a wager with his patrolmen. Whoever could nab McQueen take his license for good would win a steak dinner. But you know what? Not a single cop got it done and when looking at the specs on this little rat, it's easy to see why. The rats engine is an XK series inline 6 twin overhead cam triple Webber's kicking out 262 HRSPRS, send you from zero to 60 in 5 seconds. Which is very fast for them. It's still quick. 60 years later. Yeah. McQueen had custom interior work done by Tony Nancy. That's your first name. Yeah. Tony Nancy. Hi, my name is Tony Nancy. I like this so. Tony upholstered a number of McQueen's cars, including the aforementioned Ferrari. Steve knew his legal driving days were numbered if he didn't get away from his precious rats. So he sold it to Las Vegas casino magnate William Hara, who displayed it in his money pits for several years. But McQueen missed it so much that he bought the thing back in 1977, paying twice as much as he had sold it for. This beauty, along with a few more on the list, is now at home at the Petersen automotive museum in Los Angeles in case you want to go see it. I've seen it, it's freaking sick. Big shout out to the Peterson. Just go there. If you haven't been there, just go. Yeah. That's great. Take the vault tour. It's worth it. Also, you might see two little surprises. "All right, another thank you to our sponsor this week, Valvoline motor oil. You know what it is? For the first motor oil brand, making them the original motor oil. But I want to talk to you about flex fell. Valvoline the number one gear oil brand has a new flexible pouch packaging that is super easy to use in tight spaces and produces less waste. Have you ever had to put oil into a rear end on a car? It's kind of sucks when the big plastic bottle doesn't really fit back there. It's kind of a pain, but this makes it so much easier. The squeezable pouch allows for less waste and easier application. They've got two full synthetic grades, 75 weigh 90 and 75 weight one 40, available for exceptional high and low temperature protection. It's also got an extreme pressure additive for better load carrying capacity and wear protection. If you have to refill the oil on your rear end, at some point soon, make sure you grab Valvoline flex fill. It's great stuff. Thank you very much Valvoline for sponsoring another episode of past gas. I love having your support, very cool to work with such a cool brand as Valvoline. So get it for your car. Today. Try new crystal for mild to moderate eczema. "Calls. Just dialed on the center with one 800 ATT. Yeah, I think that makes sense 'cause I've seen them installing a lot more like pay phones on the street. It's like not flashy. Yeah, but it's safe. I get that. I'm in. I'm going to take out $10,000 from my rivian stock and put it into that. Speaking of $10,000, Joe, have you got your 4Runner back? Is that coming today? It's supposed to be supposed to come fingers crossed. This guy's doing a real wide job on me right now. Trying to put the heat under his butt and he told me he promised me. I would get it back before Thanksgiving. So I'm going to hold him to that. And if not, we'll show up with some baseball bats. From the 1950s to the 1970s, concept cars just got more aerodynamic and more jets and like turbines and nuclear reactors start popping up in random Fords and Chevys. But by the 70s, car execs were back to guzzling their own Kool-Aid, and they just made every single concept car into a wedge. That was the thing back then we love wedges. I love a wedge. Literally every concept car from sketch to clay was the same car. We all drove when we're in kindergarten. Do you guys like a wedge salad? Yeah. I think it's pretty good. Even though I'm not a big blue cheese fan. Yeah, I like a wedge salad. By the 1980s the dream of that Jetson's future have been thoroughly crushed by mountains of cocaine, disco, the gas crisis in Vietnam. It had gone from self propelled maids and electric walnut openers to settling for just a vague feeling of what the future could be. Wall Street executives didn't care about freaking space. They wanted a digital dash. One of the first concept cars of the 1980s was the Ford probe three. This was Ford's third shot at pro put and it was not very good. The first probe was a 70s wedge with pop up headlights and a sad motor. The second was a bit more non wedge and looked like a Lancia prisma mixed with an 80s lotus Elise with a sad motor. But the probe three went above and beyond. It ditched the whole drivability factor of the probe ones and twos and focused entirely on aerodynamics, but without just being a doorstop. The probe three was a bubble of a car. It looked like a 90s four tours that just gave up and melted. And it sounded like a dust buster. All things you totally want in a new car. Through their glassy eyes, execs thought they had something amazing and they sort of did. Even though the probe three was a total jelly lean. Hella aerodynamic in a way that those wedges never were. And Ford took those design keys and passed them down to their bestselling car ever. The Ford Taurus. This does look crazy. Let me describe the probe three for the listener. The front end gives me major geo prism vibes in the front. The mid side like that mid box, the middle box is pretty torus like. But then the rear has Fox body tail lights that looks like you know the ones that kind of look like window blinds with a cozy wing on it. Yeah, it's got like two cozy wings on the back and then a covered rear wheel. And sort of like a fastback hatchback looking thing. It's very strange looking. The wheels are kind of cool though. I can see those being a Volkswagen show. Yeah. Looks like something you'd see in demolition man. That's just demolition, man. Yeah. And that was such a weird line to end that movie on. But the end of the day that's just demolition, man. Do you know he still has the turtle from rocky? And it's like 46 years old or something? Wow. I love rocky. So that's just Sloane is definitely a guy who's like way smarter than he comes off. Yeah. He wrote rocky. Can you imagine that he's like him at a typewriter? Reminds me of that meme with all the strong guys like emailing each other. He's like, he's like typing with just his pointer fingers. Yeah, yeah. Yes. And then two months later, Carol appealed to president Macron on behalf of her husband to plead his case with the Japanese leader Shinzo Abe at the 45th G 7 summit. It did not work. Then, in September of 2019, ghosn settled with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission over claims that he failed to disclose more than a $140 million in pay from Nissan. Can I sing one more song? And this brings us to our opening and ghosn's escape to Beirut in a box. Go and left his Tokyo apartment around 6 30 p.m. on December 29th, 2019 and joined two men at a nearby hotel. His reason for doing so, the team he hired to extract him from Tokyo noticed that Japanese security would follow go nearly everywhere except into hotels. The three then took a bullet train to Osaka and dropped into another hotel near kansai airport just after 8 p.m.. A few hours later, the two men left the hotel carrying a suspiciously large audio equipment box with ghosn folded up inside. It's like a home alone movie. He later said, when you get to his box, you don't think about the past. You don't think about the future. You just think about that moment. You are not afraid you don't have any emotion except as a huge concentration on this is your chance you can't miss it. If you miss it, you are going to pay with your life with the life of a hostage in Japan. So you only think I do miss is the books I have called the guys and said, hey, maybe you send me the box back. They don't respond to my texts. According to go, the plan was I could not shut my face, so I have to be hidden somewhere and the only way I could be hidden was to be in the box or be in a luggage so nobody could see me. Nobody could recognize me. And zipline could work. He then said the idea of using a large box that would normally contain musical instruments was the most logical one, particularly that around this time, there were a lot of concerts in Japan. During his tour that year and I'm a big fan. Okay, so they chose a box because it wasn't it couldn't be scanned. So the security people just didn't open it up at all. Well, it's a private jet. Oh, that's right. I don't know if you guys have ever flown on a private jet, but I have okay. Wow. Yeah. I mean, I have so I can kind of speak to this because I've flown on a private jet unlike you. Dirty people. Yeah, but were you the steward? Were you the flight attendant? No burn, dude. Freaking burned, dude. I was the toilet liquor. So you're on Dan Bilzerian's plane. "Are going to be rolled under a bank umbrella. I wanna i wanna get to that that That new tech bank and trust That you're getting into but it sounds like these services go well beyond financing but but it does seem like there's sort of two chunks of it which is the things that banks do lend to companies and to help them grow their businesses and then there's business services support with banks almost never do right promised to do that stuff. Yeah i think what we do for our clients is we make them more efficient. We make their life easier. We not only reduce their expense. But we give them software services and solutions that allow them to scale down their operations and focus on what they do. Well they they can see. There's a lot of payroll companies paychecks or adp churches a lot of payment processing companies by serve. He says and others we do all of the things. So we roll these things together and provide a total solution for a business owner to be able to run their business. So how'd you find your customers or harder. Customers find you well. That's also unique. So we view ourselves as the branchless brogel is. Bdo is and banker list's company. We developed a software called new tracker in two thousand and three which basically is like the salesforce dot com for business referral process to entities like ubs. Raymond james morgan stanley navy. Federal credit union meinicke mufleh trade association true value. They refer clients to us because they don't provide those solutions for their customers. Through the new tracker system we get over one hundred thousand business referrals a quarter. We've gotten one and a half million over our life and we can service customers without a salesforce without marketing dollars just by providing a great solution so our alliance partner referral partner channel is the bread and butter and to our referral. They get a referral fee. But most importantly we don't take their customers which is really important. We don't compete with them and we give their customers solution that makes them viable so that they can sell them. Stocks and bonds managed a 401k sell franchise agreements or possibly depository services. Now what are the size of the businesses at your backing so about eighty. Five percent of our customers are probably twenty employees to below. Most people. don't even wanna talk to those businesses. Because they're too small we have a significant amount of clients that are hundred heads. Five hundred heads couple. That are thousand heads and we service them as well. We don't take clients for breakfast lunch dinner. We don't play golf with them. We don't take them to the theater. We're just there for them. Twenty four hours a day seven days a week when they need a solution. Any human being to talk to to provide them the service. That's the one of the reasons of big financial firms are small financial firms. Don't take on those kinds of customers or even banks don't are always looking for them because they are so much work but it seems like you're getting so many slices of their business that you can make a cost effective. Yeah by being able to offer multiple solutions. We can pile the margin on and by being able to do this remotely which the pandemic has forced every business. The united states the pandemic actually force companies to adapt our business model. Which is you don't need calling. Bankers brokers salespeople and branches to bring customers in need a great product a reputation and the customers will come to you so you go out and decide. You're going to buy a bank and you by the national bank of new york or something like that bank of new york city right and and it's natural city which having lived in new york city for most of my life. I don't know what the national bank of new york city is for one times book. Twenty million dollars and yet it has the ability to make loans all of the country in all fifty states correct it's an occ chartered bank. It has one branch when he seven employees so that from our perspective. It's in flushing flushing queens correct. So maybe now you're getting an image of you wouldn't it would be hard to find. The bank is really small okay but they have a charter but they speak four hundred languages as they do in queens probably yes seven trying to get there okay so so you find a bank in queens. It's got book value. Twenty million bucks probably does some commercial banking. They're almost exclusively. Yeah not not. A consumer bank primarily a commercial bank servicing commercial customers as significant real estate book. You know even the size of the bank and will we plan on doing is working with the existing infrastructure. It'd be able to grow the deposit and lending franchises and drop the things that we do into a banking environment which we think will be very successful. You surely have the opportunity to be a bank in the past. Why do it now. The timing is clearly different today than it was say. Ten years ago We're eighty million dollar market cap company than were six hundred and fifty million today We have enough wherewithal to afford the types of resources to manage comply and develop high-quality banking product and. That really was not available to us ten years ago. It's a much better fit. In addition to that the regulators are much more friendly to technology oriented financial institutions. That can take a bank. That's primarily brick and mortar and banker oriented and turn that into a technology enabled bank let me paraphrase. So what you're saying is regulators have looked at your offerings instead nanna. You can't do that under banks roof anymore. But now they're used to other firms trying to do some kind of things and add on services. Maybe it's more feasible for the The occ the office of the comptroller of the currency correct. He or she is right. Now kerr working on it. I don't have anybody right now. Right now. there's a there's a newly appointed nominee and then the other shoe thing is wilma bank holding company so the federal reserve chief could be powell not pal. So there's a lot of transition right now in the regulatory environment. But i think that the banking industry is much more favorable today to utilizing technology to acquire deposits and to make loans remotely without that Physical presence. yeah it it. It is an interesting time for fintech and you must be facing some. You know you talked about technology. Do moment to go to us in your own. Cloud talk about an investor presentations as well but the things that clients want. The customers need to operate their businesses are so much more complex than where even eighteen months ago. Yeah and the nice thing about what we do. Is we have a payroll solution. We have insurance solutions. We can If the customer once again single sign on thread dashboard. Google analytics payment processing data. Their bill paying capability. So we've got all these products and solutions. We're going to be able to bundle them. Under one dashboard. One single sign on to make it very efficient for a business owner to go to that dashboard and manage their business. As well as these solutions will integrate into the business's accounting jail are their financial advantages of being underneath the rubric of being a bank. That things you could do that you couldn't do before. yes so. Currently as a business development corporation were limited to to to one leverage banks can be levered tend to one and as a business development core. We've got a dividend and distribute out one hundred percent of earnings under a financial bank holding company we can retain the earnings which is valuable and we could use core deposits to be able to grow the balance sheet without having to sell shares of stock two very different game Do you expect to get to the tend to one leverage. Oh yes no question. Yeah over time. Obviously but i think we put out performance that close we should be at seventeen eighteen percent of capital. So we'll we'll start off as a very well. Capitalized financial institution and presumably. Not screw that up. Well presumably agree that birth long. Thank you very slow as the ceo of new tech business services glad to have you here from the l. d. micro conference here in sunny california. Thank you for having me. And it's great to be here. "More quite what's your next year down. Lis- look at valvoline valvoline trade center vivey shares rose nine percent today and they've risen seventy six percent a year what's new with valvoline well So full disclosure our own valvoline shares of discount. What i'm about to say as much as you want. But valvoline has two businesses so one is operating the second largest quick lube service in the us with valvoline instant oil change and they were products business where they sell stuff. The quickly business has been fantastic and it's growing like crazy better than twenty percent a year. The products business not so much in the company has been accused by people. Have just not you know. It's grown over the last since the ipo. About five years ago it's groaned about fifty percent of the snp's doubled in that time. This business about forty five percent of the stock is so people have been advocating for a change at this company and indeed till they fix this business somehow to show the growth of this. You're saying oh by twenty twenty. Three over fifty percent of our business will be quick lou business so today they came out to. They're going to at a plan possibly split the two businesses the stock responding today but And again. I'm a tiny bit of the stock. So you know that's was material. You know something. I noticed today but You know why the the underlying question here is not just why didn't management look at a split earlier when they could see that they had one fast growing business and not and one slow growing business but also why is that business growing so fast it turns out that if you have a blitz say an old car like a i don't know like let's say seventy one stingray corvette convertible. I'm just making that about lou. Zero own one Maybe in the color of red shirts like a cherry red cherry red sharp so that takes a regular oil oil change. It's about forty five bucks but if you're driving a new bmw you're going to get a synthetic oil change and that can cost as much as ninety bucks so as more and more people are driving newer newer cars. The cost of oil change is going up so when you go in for the quick lube change of valvoline you get the twice as expensive synthetic oil change and you find yourself buying some wiper blades and some windshield washer fluid and a couple other changes pretty soon. The average ticket price is going up for valvoline. And that's been really good or so says ceo sam mitchell at a june investor conference keys. I we've got a number of drivers one is probably the easiest. One is the fact that more of new cars today require synthetic oils and it says that oil change is a posted price of about ninety dollars analogy prosser or system and that's a significant increase versus say synthetic blend in the mid sixty dollar range or a conventional change which is only about a forty dollar posted price so as more and more vehicles car owners. require synthetics as just a really nice showing force over time because it drives ticket in obvious drives a lot of market growth so higher ticket prices higher margin For this company. Nothing but good. The question is can investors. Really see it. Without the businesses being split into companies are not going to comment anymore until the announced deal or announce a no deal. They've hired cravat they've hired Goldman sachs advise them. I don't know that investors can be satisfied with we're not talking about this I know i'm not but you know as a come kind of demanding are you. You may have noticed been just exchanging looks over here. Yup all right all right well. Our guests coming up from the l. d. micro conference here in los angeles and it's very kind of christly. What you've been fertile whereas l. d. micro conference of. And how do you define the what this conference is. It's a bunch of small kids a lot of companies presenting some of the very small companies. Yours not so much right and you've been coming for years. I have been coming for over a decade in christly g puts on a tremendous conference. It's a little bit like a cold. Following people come here and they try to find the undiscovered companies it's primarily dominated by nanno capra micro cap companies We've outgrown at. Were six hundred fifty million market cap today. But i have investors. Here i come to see them and it's it's a great event. You learn a lot so describe your company and and what was it about your company that made this to help you come back obviously because you could see some of the faces people that still own your stock but what is it about your company that has allowed you to grow from a much smaller company. Much bigger company over the years here. Well i think that We establish ourselves in nineteen ninety eight. We went public in september two thousand viral reverse merger. And you know. I think the key is surviving and thriving over. The course of two decades is a good idea. Work really hard have great passion and perseverance. Because you're going to have tough times yoido. Nine credit crisis was difficult. pandemic was difficult. But if you have that grit and determination you can push through all these events. So what what do you guys did. What what does the company fundamentally do. Because i read the sec filings and stuff and provide business. Services will doesn't everybody provide business services. Well yes and no as some people provide a singular business service or a singular solution new tech has a branded full suite of solutions and focuses. "Through the curve. That's a great analogy. Great analogy takes me back to my bad math days. All right ignore needs their enter the underdog in a business where underdogs almost never prospered. Mazda was a small scrappy company. But they wanted to be bigger. They had less money and resources than toyota and nissan. But those bigger companies also showed high level of success was possible and their goal was to become japan's third. Major automaker mazda had big dreams and insane strategy and not a lot of money to accomplish their goals. What could go wrong. I ask before we talk about the ahmadis failure. We have to talk about of mazda's successful projects. The miata in the spring of nineteen eighty nine mazda launched the miata and it was a hit spurring on the sense of optimism. Within the company that they're experimentation was working in one thousand nine hundred nine the five miata debuted. Mazda had designed proposals from both its japanese and american offices. Mazda ended up going with the american design. This became the amex five. That design was similar to a classic british sports car with its rear wheel drive an engine in the front when the miata was officially released in nineteen ninety it lightly resembled a sixties era loaded. Salon remade for the modern era at launch the amex miata miata was powered by one hundred. Sixteen horsepower one point six liter engine and was solely available with a five speed manual transmission. I'm manual guy. I like shifting gears myself. i'm does like that fourth panel. Am i right guys all four pedals. I use all five of my legs when i drive. It could also be had with power windows and aluminum wheels and ac and speakers in the headrests stuff that makes a car comfortable but no matter how it was equipped the ms five miata was extremely lightweight by modern standards basically great roadster that when it was released won numerous accolades including automobile magazine's nineteen ninety automobile of the year and placing on car and driver's ten best list from nineteen ninety. Two one thousand nine hundred to so good car. Great college and i'd say legendary legendary. The success of the miata got in mazdas head. Made a little company think it could continue to reach and grow and profit off a luxury badge after all no one thought mazda could build a roadster and the miata had been a hit. Clearly mazda. do no wrong. They were about to fly a little too close to the sun with an endeavor that was appropriately named project pegasus. They were about to fly too close to the sun burst yellow. Yeah pegasus didn't fly into the sun did it now. Pegasus was a horse with with feathers. That was taught with feathers pub. How was the relationship between the japanese branches working for mazda who ultimately took the fall mazda get started on designing a new luxury brand and appointed dick colliver a twenty year mazda veteran to head the project it was code-named peg assists and announced the press in august of nineteen ninety. One at this announcement. Mazda said it would launch its new luxury badge in the first quarter of nineteen ninety four. At the time kenichi yamamato was the head of mazda and encouraged the pegasus team. Yellow amato was the one who wanted. Mazda continued to grow and expand. He had been the one who approved the plans for the miata and push the roadster into existence. Now he wanted mazda grow and make it to the next level as a company project. Pegasus got to work. They started hot gluing feathers all over that horse then like some time out. Were they were like. Oh you know what i think. We may have taken this to literally. They're like yeah. "Hey just a steel town girl saturday night so on top of things that's on top of things they are being valvoline motor oil because Chained doing oil change on one of the cars and got all the different weights. Got all the different reviews ended up making the purchase. They give you the best price. It's it's just better it's bang. It's another decision. Made thanks to bring the decision. Engine all right. Gina grad You got the news share deal not quite yet but it's coming to make sure everyone's queued up I wanna thank everybody. I got nice email from my editor today and She said hey. Good news We moved up a few notches. On the new york times bestseller lists you usually sort of slough off and then that's the way it works almost like when a movie comes out maybe start off it number one or number two and then as the weeks where on you drop down and eventually drop out of the top ten We were number eight. And then we're like number eighteen and then we're like number thirty one and then we popped up to like twenty eight which doesn't sound like any big whoop but we didn't go down. We went up so when all the New books came out on tuesday. Normally you move over a little bit when the new books come out. We're actually going up and that's a thanks to all you people but in my never ending. I would like my next book to be called. I never thought adults would be this stupid. I got this thing and and please help me out here. Because people say when i make sort of simple requests there have simple ideas or things that would fall under the heading of no shit or no duh of course or sure anyone who did this for a living with think of that sort of thing. Of course anyone over twenty five with two fucking brain cells to rub together with come to this people say to me a lot. They go adam. You're smart and people. Don't think like you do and i go. I'm not that smart. I'm really not in what i'm thank you. Wait a minute. And what i'm suggesting is not very smart. It falls under the no shit. Not the will your super bright. I have ideas. That are good ideas. And i'll tell you when they're when i think of them. Oh yes i shall. But this wasn't one of them. So i got a thing back for my editor and she said Hey good news. You know the books doing good and it's having a second life in. It's still going strong. And they've decided to Get some new money together and do a new ad campaign and the they have a new thing and we want to show you the ad campaign and it's an online thing and it's a picture mean picture of the cover the book and couple lines about the book and then it goes to sort of online thing and i thought that's flattering. That's nice. they've they've got a few few ducats in. They're throwing it behind the book and it's hard to tough business to book business. It's hard to get them behind you in your book and Especially hard to get them to sort of repledged. They did it the first time a month ago but they've decided to sort of repledged themselves and i i thank them for it but as i was looking at this thing this picture of me on the cover of my book and a couple of words underneath it i saw and then i saw the email the next day saying well. We're going out with this. And i sort of thought about it and i thought wait a minute. Shouldn't it have one of those little stickers that says new york times bestseller like i see on every single book. That's on the new york times bestseller thing that little gold star. They put on the thing. That seal of approval. Yeah it's kind of like when our movie came out and we got two thumbs up from at the movies. And i said don't you want to put two thumbs up on there and they're like i dunno you. Think so well seeings how every other fucking movie on the planet. That's lucky enough to get two thumbs up from cisco and whoever do it and it wasn't cisco but the point is was roper and whoever but the point is yes. I'd say i mean. Listen if i won a gold medal in the winter olympics i put gold medal winning or billet surprise. Or you know. I ain't bragging but i'm just saying state in fact i'll ask you this. How many movies they get two thumbs up at the movies Make no mention of it on the cover. The dvd cover. Is there any none none. As a matter of fact. I'll take a step further when they get one thumbs up one thumbs up. They go thumbs up at the movie they do. There's a way of sort of describing it that makes it seem like you got two thumbs up when you didn't hubert alone gives them thumbs up. He just says thumbs up to this movie so it is thumbs up. So it's a solitaire. You take a look at the hammer. Dvd jacket which came out. You know four months after we got the two thumbs up at the movies. I don't think there's anything on there about getting two thumbs up at the understated arguably the biggest most prestigious review show ever. But now not not gonna do that. So that was my crazy idea. So i wrote back to the editor. Which one of those gold stickers it says new york times bestseller list so this new audience you're trying to market it to you can go. Oh well maybe there's something here and she wrote me back good catch. We'll see if we can get it in that we've already. We've already released it but maybe for the next round but she literally said hey nice grab are they gonna make you buy all the books back like oh synchrony stickers no just for the ad and i just start why am i thinking first off and i love my editor. She sweet and she's good at her job except for this part of it and it's not even her job. It's the pr department but when you have a first off. Here's what i want to scream. Everyone i want to get on top of a mountain with bullhorn. But one. Dr seuss withdraw and yell. What you do for a living. This cannot be at this. There's no way this isn't march into the crown random house. Pr department ago police. Tell me what you do. Please tell me please tell me. You're you're a shiite muslim sleeper cell. There something your work your reporting type. Al qaeda's there's something going on. There's no way you do this if you have a new york times bestseller. Don't you almost did that. The first fucking thing you put on there when you're doing any kind of advertising are like i said whatever it is you did if you wanna if you won a super bowl or got a medal of any kind and again. We live in a society.

"Once again. Alex bowman welcome back to the program. Yeah thanks for having me all right over your shoulder here. It smelling pretty good. It's it's looking pretty good You got in and out burger there for lunch yet. Not for me for the guys. Yeah my my trainer would kill me. he doesn't know that i had a double double animal style fries and a chocolate shake yesterday when i landed. So we're just not going to tell them that but but today since odds are he's going to walk in here Not gonna eat that. Well you know this is broadcast and online and so he might find out some other way. Yeah we'll just we'll just send it and hope hope he doesn't all right. I noticed that they tony. You had like an all white fire suit. How do you keep that thing clean. You don't yeah that was That's tough valvoline. paint scheme. looks so good firesuits. Look really good I think all white looks really good. It's just so hard to keep playing I think they have a couple of primaries this year so only got to make them last a couple of races but It is tough there destroyed after one race They wanted me to do that for chili bowl. And i said no way Cj who drives my car he he got an all white suit for chile will and it was destroyed after after practice. Pretty much so It is as tough for sure. The first thing. I thought of as that would not work in the days of thunder days. No for sure stuff used to get the pair used to move through the cars. So much more i mean. The cars were cooler inside because of it. Actually but i mean those guys would get so dirty back in the day. I just because there was so much more moving air and everything was sealed up how it is now. But now they're like They're sealed up pretty tight. Except for when i went through the grass i had grass everywhere so That firesuits probably half green at this point. But that's all right. Put mountain dew on that part of it. Yeah yeah if if they wanted to be on eighty eight car for sure. We're halfway there. You did a panting of matt benedetto. I saw it online. You can't get away from it but props to him. He kept the interview going yeah. He's not a very shy human being so it's one of those things we mess with each other. A lot and i did not continue the interview. I was very distracted by it. What happened and what was going on. So that was my way of getting him back so i'm really not looking forward to what comes next knowing him but i'm sure it'll be something i was gonna ask you. Expect retaliation probably It's fun to make fun of matt. you know. He drives for that other manufacturer. But he's still just went and bought a another corvette so We know he's at least got good taste and yeah he's he he just bought another is the are one. But you know. I saw the other day. And you know how corvettes have four taillights he. He had somebody take the tail lights out to like put tent on them. And like put different spoiler on the car. And they didn't tighten the bolts out one of the bolts up and one of the tail lights fell out going down the road. So that's embarrassment. He's got good taste in cars but yeah it's a little bit nursing. What what are you driving personally. No one of those. Yeah so he's actually copying me. He's got the same cars me now. He's he was going to buy the same wheels that i had on my car so i just sold him my wheels about something different. So we weren't matching but yeah you should go ask him about it because it's literally he's copying me. That's that's definitely interesting. Go out there and race. Yeah mine still going to be mine. Still gonna be faster though. So i mean it's obviously got the better driver so it's all driver of course nothing under the hood for sure now. Last time we spoke you were still working out the intricacies of assigned seating at movie theaters. Is there anything else technology wiser in two thousand twenty. That's baffling you I don't think there's been anything yet. I'm sure. I'm sure there will be that movie. Theater incident was largely embarrassing. Pretty sure i'm never going on a date ever again. After that that was that was a struggle But yeah nothing yet. I feel like something will definitely pop up and confuse the heck out of me and all embarrassed myself with it but nothing yet. Truth be told seventeen years. I've been doing this. This is the first time using my phone for notes. I used to use paper mainly because it was lighter. So i'm still getting into the tech stuff too. Yeah yeah there you go. I mean yeah. It's forever changing. Who would think that you have assigned seats at a movie theater. That there's twelve people and it just didn't make any sense. If i were just gone gone up one more row. Adam and just fine definitely definitely definitely all right so you got a bunch of sponsorships onboard this year. How do you keep track of them. All highest kelsey. What's on the car this week Yeah figure out what shirts to bring. And and i mean it's it's written on my chest on the firesuits so i guess i could just look down and figure it out but no it's it's been really cool to have some new partners on board obviously We have this week and chevy goods dot com and everybody. That's going to be out for the rest of the year. Really excited about all that so It'll be neat. I think the black and gold car looks really cool so looking forward to seeing that on the race track. Lamar looks good to its new paint scheme for them so it only looks a little bit similar to the valvoline paint scheme. Just a little bit. But but that's all right. That's that's that's a good luck to you once you're inside it kind of looks the same right. Yeah yeah you can't see it from From where i sit. So i'm here for it. Do you ever bring the wrong stuff to the track. Not recently so when i was driving for junior motorsports We had a couple of different sponsors on the car throughout the year. We went somewhere in. Dave ellen's was the crew chief and really all the sponsors were the same color scheme but he wore the wrong shirt like the race day shirt. He warned completely wrong. One week kelsey did my pr over there. as well. and i thought she was gonna kill him so It was it was a good day for sure with sports. Exploding ni- racing and that's something that you're interested in and doing. Yeah william started his own team starts. I started calling him. Mr be since he's got this big time. I racing team but I wanna talk to him next time. I'm gonna ask him well. How does that work. I mean nothing physical yeah he. He's spent some money on it so I don't know. That's i keep myself really busy with other things and i'm kinda maxed out at the moment. I think it's really neat. I play on. Ira seeing a little bit more to to play around and then taking that super seriously. Is it something you see yourself doing. After nascar maybe retiring you're eighty years old. You're sitting in your living room and you're still raising all that's gonna be so different when i'm eighty years old. Can you imagine what sim racing is going to become at that point Maybe i don't know all probably be at a dirt track somewhere though

Parker Kligerman on Year 2 as a team owner in the eNASCAR iRacing Coca-Cola Series

"Parker is a co- team owner in the NASCAR COCA COLA. I racing series. I get that right. Okay year two for Burton Triggerman East sports and we had Parker on last year as somewhat of an eye racing primer NASCAR. Miracle was broadcasting a few of the I. Racing Races last year. We did the finale which was tremendously well received. All of the races were well received on. Nbc talked about like what it all means with you before Parker. This time we wanted to have you on to talk about year two for your team because you guys have not only. Have you WANNA race already this year through two races as we speak here today you already had a win from Ashton crowder in the Fontana race. You've also got some big news with sponsorships and everything happening in your too. So tell us what's going on for Burton. Click armony sports. Yes so first of all start. In the series the series on coca-cola's title sponsor peak left peak any freeze. And they'd been part of it for years and I think the the trajectory the series and things and how they building sports it opened up and up to pursue cocoa that come in so that was really cool as big name to put on top of the series this year we have twenty teams so the full team rosters filled out this year whereas last year round sixteen teams so there's only twenty teams allowed. We filled it out and for burnt. Cuckney sports. We actually brought in our first corporate partner of this magnitude valvoline which was incredible. It worked on it for months. The reason they came into his they'd obviously east. Sports is a big topic. These days that sort of thing and I had a little bit relationship with them beforehand and this came about and I'd always been a big fan of Abilene cars growing up. How good they look the pace keys or anything and it would be so cool to have those as our cars essentially look just like the Mark Martin number six. Yeah we did like a little vs flying vs. I call them okay. We're all the visa and going up and that was kind of our spin on it a little bit in the eastport realm so really cool. They've been great work with and just a lot of fun and they really are seeing the benefits and and kind of become fans of as well and then we went out and won the second race two seasons Ashen crowder. We lead the most laps between both drivers. Clampitt led a ton of beginning. He and four she got involved in a wreck and then Ashen kind of took. The reins and in an incredible dual won the race and that was just huge. So we're now tied for the point seat. Although we get the points lead off the with Ashenafi Tiebreaker having a win and in the team championship or fourth. So it's been a great start for us really cool for the series and the viewership. This year has been insane across tweets. Youtube NASCAR ADT COM and facebook. The first Jewish this season have adverse around one hundred eighty thousand people tune in life. That's The craziest statistic to me but people will break down the numbers or shocked by is the average time person views for so you know the Internet unlike. Tv. There's a lot of calculation can be done per each viewer and you often find yourself. Sort of like across the different streamed stream entities finding that they all read it differently but one of the things that really sticks out across all the retention time. And so we've seen average viewers nineteen minutes per viewer Twenty minutes thirty minutes so in the Internet world that like that will be. That's like I mean. I know from working for a website. It's not just website traffic or page views. It's how long are they reading the page? So after on watching twenty minutes of Iras. That's is that something you could have valvoline with and say this. And they say their eye popping numbers yes. We put a whole report together after each race and sort of to give some sort of numbers all this because I was actually a conference in London couple weeks ago about East sports and sky. Who's believe these? Cfo of the largest eastward teams in the world said eighty seven point six percent of all artistic in east sports or made up and facts. So you can put concrete numbers to it. It's a great thing and we've been able to do that. So it's been wrinkled who said it was fabricated He he works for fanatic which is one of the largest export teams in the world. It was basically a joke to say it. So it's the wild west and I actually think what were doing one of the things I know. It says in our logo in our team name. I don't even like the word East sports anymore because I kind of think of traditional sports trying to do something different were Imo Schwartz. Were trying to help a sport or exists bill the base and gain a new audience and be exposed to people that can never be exposed to it on the competitive level. What they're trying to do in really sports shooters they're trying to make the next Nascar the next NFL. We're not trying to do that. So as you mentioned two cars Logan Clampitt in the number ninety nine valvoline Ashton crowder and the number seventy seven valvoline. Just curious obviously ninety nine. That was Burton's now. When he drove up seventy seven is that it was my number and Arka- And I've always had a thing for sevens and it comes from my grandpa who was his favorite number seven successful years of always been car at seven. Seventy seven a number in a lot to me and both of these guys are obviously like. Hey you guys actually drove in the NASCAR Cup series. Take whatever numbers. You're doing well as team. We own those numbers so just like real life our numbers we own them so if we changed drivers but they're in for full year then it would keep the number
