"George in western Ukraine posted a sign on its front gate Condemning Russia which is pretty out of character because this church belongs to the Ukrainian orthodox church of the Moscow patriarchate as in it follows a bishop in Moscow We are saying God bless Anthos I thought this church would be empty when I stopped by for Sunday services It's hard to find anyone in Ukraine these days who owns up to ties with Russia But I was wrong God is perfect Can't even find her own Amazing Worshippers are crammed in shoulder to shoulder women in lace head coverings children squeezing through our legs the smell of candles a glow of a chandelier illuminating hundreds of icons of saints They're here to pray And also to witness something extraordinary When bearded golden robed priests carry bread and wine to the altar they normally invoke the name of their bishops in both Moscow and Ukraine But today They refuse to say the Moscow bishop's name It might sound like a small liturgical change but for Orthodox Christians I would call them a serious earthquake in the orthodox world Nicholas denisenko is a theology professor at Valparaíso university in Indiana There are many orthodox churches that stayed on Russia's side or kind of were waiting to see what was going to happen with us And some church leaders are outraged at what they're seeing They're outraged he says at the failure of their patriarch in Moscow to denounce this war Instead in his sermon Sunday the Russian Orthodox patriarch kirill defended Russia's invasion And said it had to do with gay pride parades in Ukraine Some Ukrainian churches have already broken away from Moscow over the years And now mikola Dani Levitch spokesman for all the remaining Ukrainian churches that are still allied with Moscow tells NPR Did he plans to ask church leaders for independence from Moscow It's a change that would affect more than 5 million Ukrainians Cyril Ho Varun is an orthodox priest who worked in Moscow advising the patriarch Not only did the Russian church back Vladimir Putin's boar It helped justify it hoveround says with bogus claims that orthodox faithful were being persecuted in Ukraine And Russia needed to step in I saw this ideology in its cradle And I was really terrified He says he tried to warn the Moscow patriarch as early as 2010 that if he backed Putin he could lose his Ukrainian churches But he says the church did not listen Many people in the orthodox world not just in Russia They see Putin as new awful example Overrun is now calling for his own fellow priests to face justice for collaborating with Putin.

"They do lose that 1 37 to 21 with Houston at home today, and he and his What I was hearing and seeing watching like Red zone today, and some of the mistakes that Trevor Lawrence was making was like he's going to have to learn. You heard announcers say that over and over again, like he's going to have to learn this. He's going to have to learn that so I just I watch it with the thought of of Justin Fields and what we will see from him and where to kind of measure him up to some of these other guys that played full games today. I mean, Zach Wilson. Obviously the Jets are going to jet that's just who they are, but he sex six times. I mean, like that doesn't feel productive to me. Yeah, no, he he struggled the Jets as a whole struggled. I will say I do want to Reject the notion of the Jets being the Jets just yet, because I'll give them a little bit of leeway because I do believe Robert Salad. Their new head coach is going to be a good head coach in this league, and so I don't want to just put the whole thing like they have a new regime change. And so I'll give them a little bit of leeway before I go ahead and they can prove that I'm wrong and they can just go ahead and be the Jets. J. E. T s Jets, Jets jets, right? We'll give them space and grace to grow right. Exactly. Hold out the judgment on week one. I try and be a little more nuanced as a as an analyst when I put my house cap on d N, but Also around the league, Your browns, Dion your grounds. They looked good early, but I'm not right. I won't talk about it. Wow, Lost 18 Street openers. A lot of people have been very excited about the Browns. They picking them to win the A F C north this year Because of all the injuries the Ravens have had to deal with. Lot of people think Ben may be done in Pittsburgh, and so it looks like it's the opportunity for the Browns to go ahead and claim their division finally, and they looked really good early against the Chiefs in Kansas City. But it's September and it's Patrick Mahomes, and he is still undefeated in September. He is now 11 0 in his career as he brought the Chiefs back after trailing at halftime 22 to 10 Browns have not one week one since 2000 and four That's a really long time. That is quite a bit. That's a long stretch of not winning. I'm disappointed because you even said it off the air. We were talking. You're like, Wow, 10 minutes feels like a really long time for the Browns, and it was. It was spelled the end for them. They were clinging to their lead as much as they could. But Patrick Mahomes goes for three touchdowns 337 passing yards Now Nick Chubb ran for two touchdowns. He rushed for 83 yards as well. But Tyreek Hill had a long touchdown 197 yards on 11 catches and one touchdown today. So the chiefs even though they allowed the Browns, um to get up on them, they were able to come back elsewhere in Washington. The charges and Justin Herbert get themselves a win. Brandon Staley's first win as head coach. They beat Washington football team 22 16. The Seahawks Go ahead and Russell Wilson behind his four touchdown passes. Beat the Colts 28 to 16 Remember when we thought Russell Wilson was coming to show? No, it's all right, because, like, I'm glad you were like again, I had actually forgotten all about it because of the Justin Fields. Draft pick, and then you reminded us at the top of the show and was like that did happen. We spent like at least a month talking about the idea of Russell Wilson coming to the Bears, and I haven't I'm actually glad, though, that they were able to go ahead and draft Justin Fields because the truth be told. Everything that they were going to have to give up for Russell Wilson. I was in love with the idea of landing a franchise quarterback, but it was going to be very tricky. The thread that needle of how much is too much to give up and still still surround him with actual talent. Right and Justin Fields be here longer, like we're looking at 10 15 years hopefully, and the truth is that If Justin Fields if they landed the right guy. Having him on a rookie deal is going to be a huge advantage for the Bears in years, 23 and four where they can hopefully surround him with some elite talent land some free agents who maybe want to come and play with Justin Fields while he's on the rookie deal. That's the real value of having a good young quarterback on your tears. Of course, it opens up so many possibilities on the financial side. Alright, Well, zip around the league and tell you what else happened as we get set for bears and rams. She is Dan Miller. I'm Jeff Miller. This is The Chicago Bears pregame show. "Of your offense is going down, executing Um, I feel like each week. I'm getting a little bit better grasp of the offense and what we're expecting to go down and just leave those guys and, um, really, we were really efficient. All three phases. We are feeding off the defense and special teams in good field position. Those turnovers early. And just going down and score. It was nice. So that's what you that's what you want to do when you come out here and play really well. That's bills quarterback weird to say Mitchell Robiskie after he carved up the Bears for 20 of 28 221 yard touchdown at quarterback rating of 106. He was outstanding. We are at Buttermilk Cafe as fans head over to training camp. It's presented by Chicago mightiest owners and operators. First Midwest Bank is a sponsor, Valparaiso University, the home loan expert and your Chicago land, Toyota. Dealers. Who do we got a lot of calls. So let's head right to the phones can cap told you guys he told you and look what happened on Saturday. Yeah, I know. He told you. I'm not telling you this guy is going to go to the Hall of Fame here. I'm just telling you, maybe he's a hell of a lot better. In a better system. Yeah, you all take that You saw what happened 20 for 28 221 yards and a touchdown in a half cap. Told you in a half and just carved them up as if the Bears weren't even out there. All right. Let's start with Freddie. He's first day Friday. What's going on? Sparkles? Hey, guys, How you doing? First time callers. But this he was never the problem. It's nags needs to get rid of him. As of now, before he ruins field, I would do a good day, Guys. Thank you very much. You know, we've had that sentiment wrecked. Whoa. I mean, I mean, he got to this point and and that you know what? It's a point that we've heard several times here where There is a fear from Bears fans saying, Well, you know, if Justin Fields does start will Nagy break him? I don't know. If that I doubt that's going to be the case Field has natural ability. Leadership leadership. I didn't see from Mitch in North Carolina. Which is a starter for 12 13 games in North Carolina saw two of them. I was never impressed and surprised me. The Bears Gambon Fields has skins on the wall. We saw what he did at Ohio State. He could have been the guy at Georgia. I just think that he has that did Shawn Watson ability to lead a team and brie and provide a dynamic and the quarterback? Quite frankly, you ever seen a long time? Yeah, I still would love to have the ability to sit like here with Matt. Have breakfast to go. Can you explain to me like if you told me we had some veteran quarterback? That that guy's had a hell of a career. He might be aging. You know Ben Roethlisberger. That's a perfect if we had Ben Rafa's burger here, and he'd been our guys whole career. Okay, I get it. You're going to play the veteran. Another year. Let the kid Andy Dalton's Cube er the last five years my brother was pull that up. I'm like he sucked. You knew that though coming in You knew you wasn't very good. No. He's a professional quarterback. He does have multiple pro bowls. He just looks terrible. Come on. What are we doing here? There's a ceiling to his success in Cincinnati was not that that is correct. Well, you knew that. He was he. You knew you weren't getting Boomer sized it in here. Did you were left? Okay, Let's go to James on the South side. James, what's going on, man? James. What's up, James? Hello, James. Turn your radio down. Let's go look alive. Ha ha! Tom share. All right. Well, we've now we appreciate it, but we'll move on Marcus in Minneapolis. Hey, Marcus. What's up, man? What's going on, guys? So I want to have an overreaction and Mitch, but I'm trying to figure out what are we trying to say with the school? Former? Excellent said it even to me. He did. Okay. I mean, you have to say you did okay by the numbers, but Are we saying that the beers made a mistake that he really she didn't look like a number two overall pick, but he had they set up a good game platform You made He did good on the fire. The two yard passes here some games like that against the Bears, But we don't see anything spectacular from them. My concern like hood chick is a defense. They look with Darty was dodging. They looked like they didn't want to be there that they didn't want to play at all. And my thing with Maggie, I think he has a good system. Maybe, but I don't think he knows how to t splitters because Offensive. Uh, Senator Ball, they execute terrible. It's been like that since magazine. Thanks for God. Appreciate it, Marcus. No more excuses. Remember the hallmark of this show when it comes to bears no more excuses. No more excuses. No complaints about the offensive line or you don't have the quarterback that you want. Hey, there was a disconnect between Maggie and Travis getting. It's very clear right now. You want certain things to happen, Travis? He couldn't execute it. Okay, So now you have Justin fields in place. I'm sitting down to the side because we know fields is the future And because of that. There's no more excuses. There's no more of. Well I didn't have. I didn't get the quarterback I wanted. I'm not sure if we have enough weapons at that. You have enough weapons. You have enough to be able to have at least nine wins here in the regular season. At least nine So let me ask you something hoodie, and we'll get back to calls in a second. You had no Daniels you have. I don't know when the Fed is going to play well, he got hurt. Didn't he got hurt the conditioning tests that's correct. Alain Robbe, but you had to bring him back. He had to bring her back. He played well last year. I mean, uh, I don't think anybody anticipated. He played every game last year. Uh, Alan Robinson didn't play call connect. Didn't play. David Montgomery didn't play. The Fetty didn't play. Daniels didn't play. Muni barely played so How do you judge what you watched offensively from whether it was fields or Dalton when you see 123456, basically with mount with Muni barely seen seven starters not playing how much of that was injury? How much of that would just rest or just sitting out the game? It sounds like Alan Robinson. He just didn't want to put him in that position. Same with Montgomery in this in this scenario with the three preseason games, the second one is the most important. The second is the third traditionally, right, correct And this in this scenario, like like You're not going to play with the dress rehearsal. The first one, Okay. The second one should be where you can go. Balls to the wall, right and the third one, and it's kind of like the fourth one from years, right? Nobody of consequence place so I wanted to see a full complement of bears if they were healthy enough to play on Saturday..

"8 19 4 cup of coffee. Come on out here to Buttermilk Cafe here in the area. Stop by and say hi. I got a lot of people here enjoying a great breakfast and they're getting ready to head over to bears training camp as well. So This is the final show will do out here and then we're gonna blink. And it's going to be the 13th on Monday, and we'll be talking about Sunday night Football. Bears and Rams Week one. Yes. There's going to still win that game with any Dolphins quarterback. The starter doubtful. Highly doubt. Wait a minute, but I gotta tell you And by the way, the sponsors here for our great remote again, the presenting sponsor, Chicago might owners and operators sponsored by first Midwest Bank, Valparaiso University, the home loan expert and your Chicago land, Toyota dealers. Jim Miller, who Had a solid run when he was here Brief, But you know, I had a 400 yard game one day. He's a really good dude. I think he really knows Football is one of the best bears quarterbacks in last 25 years. Short list there about just telling you, I mean, yeah, we'll try to be factual here. Right Here we are. Jim Miller was on K. Jay Z this morning and look If they ask a question, and you know that the answer is no. I'm not asking you to come on, and dog, the head coach. Crush the organ is it? I get it. He works for them. I understand that. But you also owe the audience a modicum of honesty. Hey, Jim. Keyshawn asked the question. Can the Bears win Super Bowl with Andy Dalton? Take a listen. Can Andy Dalton lead this team to a Super Bowl? And here's what Here's Where I'm coming from. When I When I look at teams that have gone to the Super Bowls, the quarterbacks have done terrific jobs in the regular season to get their teams in position for the postseason. And once they get to the postseason, the defense tend to take over the running game in the quarterback minimizes the mistakes, Ala Tom Brady in the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs, or can see Chief Star quarterback and Patch Mahomes a year before or are Super Bowl with Brad Johnson. Can he Andy Dog do that for Chicago. Yeah, I think in his past, I think the window closed in Cincinnati. I think everybody understands. He led Cincinnati five times to the postseason certain he gets the criticism that they didn't win a a postseason games. I don't think that's all on Andy. I view Andy Kind of like galaxy Smith. He's a guy. It's not going to lose you again. He's not going to make the stupid decision. Throw the pick. Six uh, you know, have the costly fumble that is going to lose you the game and the Bears feel that they've got the defense to really do that. You know, they feel that they Can play strong if they get the takeaways like they did back in 2018. I think that's what they're hoping for, and and he's not going to make the costly mistake. They're going to cost you so Yeah, I do. I did it again. Lead them post season and beyond. Yes, I think if he plays his game and play smart football, that's what the Bears are. County nine Okay? He runs from Alex Smith. You mean with a bum leg and bleeding down his ankle? One of you that Okay, first of all, he said Alex Smith. He's not going to Throw a pick six. Mm. He's thrown 15 of them in his career. He's a statue. I mean, come on, Jim. If they can get back to the 2018 you have Dan Hampton could get two new knees and come back and play. And if Mike Singletary comes back and Walter Payton rises from the grave Yeah, we can win the Super Bowl. Come on, man. Just be honest. Just say that's going to be a tough but key to win a Super Bowl. Do I think he could be solid? Yes. Win the Super Bowl. Come on, man. It's just a bad answer. No one's fire you at the Bears or fox 32 for saying we have to evaluate it. You could be right down the middle. You could be Switzerland in that answer, but the Super Bowl Come on. Now. You know Keyshawn Johnson is a very crappy broadcaster, right? He asked that question for a reason. He didn't know that Jim Miller actually take debate. But ultimately keeps saying this guy is not the future. It's really about Justin Fields, but he asked the question. See how far will you take it with Andy Dog? How far you think they will take it? Oh, yeah. You can take it to a Super Bowl. What the hell? Who says that right straight face, Jim Miller says when compared and Alex Smith You go look at any Dalton's numbers the year that What's his name? Alex Smith was playing and look at Alex Smith's numbers. When the homes was on the bench. L Smith played in an all pro level. Yes, there's a big difference, man between these two guys. Come on. That was just an awful answer. I would say, Jim, you're better than that. But apparently not. Yes, Jim, you are better than that. Come on. Jim's a really good guy. And I like you. I listened to his show on Sirius. He and Pat Kirwin. Yep. They give you good football knowledge, but don't toe the company line with that answer. Right? But you know the reason why that, he said That is because Jim Miller sees himself in Andy Dalton, right. The veteran quarterback that needs an opportunity. Young guy breathing down his neck. You totally get that right. So Jim sees himself as an adult in that same way like Yeah, I was that veteran that they didn't believe in. I had certain windows of opportunity, Not big windows of opportunity show what I can do so that he feels he is empathy for Andy Dalton. But The reality tells you that Andy Dalton is not Alex Smith. Not. He's not. That's exit. You're exactly correct. He'll be like in the Cincinnati Bengals. Ring of Honor, but not anywhere close to being a great quarterback. Correct. That's who he is. The red rifle. The red rifle. Let's go back to the phones. The Grange Bob! Hey, Bob. What's up, Sparky? How you doing this one so you literally can a bomb said that feels a better quarterback not meet, Taliban said. I respect his opinion. Hannah Bomb said Fields is a bit about fit. Not today, not yesterday period. When somebody say that something is better right now, based on what you just say, Throw in the sense that the government is not a good ballplayer. I don't try to make and smart but smart got to do with that They feel the pretty smart girl also You make good decisions out so He's heavy. So why why he had to be the ballplayers, not making a smart decision making dumb pump. Based on what And the guy missed the guy, Mr Block the God missed about investing. They could, Mr Barton and I don't hear them too. Yeah, I'm wondering how much deep here's a few things thanks to the cop. Okay, Just listen to me here, partner. You can tell me. I'm nuts. I'm always listening. You have told me I'm nuts before I'm okay with that. Do you think privately, Matt Ryan already have been extended. But they already know whatever happens, we're coming back. So we could take our time and do whatever we want to do A B. You see that guy right there that grizzly bear on the other side. His name's Aaron. Donald. We don't want him killing Our rookie quarterback. Our offensive line is not good enough, right? We don't want to break Justin Fields Week one and go. Oh, God. Guess what? We're gonna throw and you get 10 million may get your head ripped off, but you're going out there. You think that's possible? That's why he can't say that. I think that he wants to make sure that the team is equipped offensive line wise and also weapons before fields is out there. I would say that that is the case. Yes, I mean, but this is not saying here. Hey, Andy Dalton. You want to be the starter here will go out with a Ricky offensive line. But he wants to make sure that at some point when everything's together, offensive line wise and weapons that feels is ready. I don't even know it's about fields being ready just the offense being ready to be able to work together. That's what I think. Dark taste next. Dante, What's up, man? Hey, Dante. What's up? Go ahead. Buddy Guy's doing this morning. Good. What's up?.

I'm not sure if we have enough weapons F that You have enough weapons, You have enough to be able to have at least nine wins here in the regular season. At least nine So let me ask you something hoodie, and we'll get back to calls in a second. You had no Daniels you have. I don't know where the Fed is going to play. Well, he got hurt. Didn't he got hurt the conditioning test? That's correct. Alain Robbe, but you had to bring him back. He had to bring her back. He played well last year. I mean, I don't think anybody anticipated. He played every game last year. Uh, Alan Robinson didn't play. Call Connect didn't play. David Montgomery didn't play If Fetty didn't play, Daniels didn't play. Muni barely played so How do you judge what you watched offensively from whether it was fields or Dalton when you see 123456, basically with with Muni barely seen seven starters not playing how much of that was injury? How much of that was just rest or just sitting out the game? It sounds like Alan Robinson. He just didn't want to put him in that position. Same with Montgomery in this in this scenario with the three preseason games, the second one is the most important. The second is the third traditionally, right, correct And this in this scenario, like like You're not going to play with the dress rehearsal. The first one, Okay. The second one should be where you can go. Balls to the wall, right and the third one, and it's kinda like the fourth one from years, right? Nobody of consequence place so I wanted to see a full complement of bears if they were healthy enough to play on Saturday. Yes, that was the game. This Saturday. You've got against the Titans who may not even have their head coach Mike Vrabel now has Covid. Yeah, we wish him well. I want to see all the guys play. This is not 11 and five team a year ago. 12 and 4 13. We're just trying to get to the priest through the preseason healthy. This is a lousy looking team right now..

"Dan campbell boys and girls. We're talking absolute insane. Amounts of caffeine from dan campbell here Can't be good for you at all. Don't know how long dudes hard is going to make it at this rate but whatever works. I suppose. Do not try this. You know this is not something for the faint of heart here. Like i said clearly. This is not a healthy way to live your life but if it works for dan campbell. I guess that's all that matters here. Especially if he's able to win games for the detroit lions as well now switching gears just a little bit and talking about the worst sports stories of the week. talked depth on tuesday about the passing of bobby bowden longtime florida state. Head coach to me that was far and away. Basically the worst sports story of the week. bobby bowden is an icon. He is a legend in terms of the sport of college football and the fact that he passed away a believe. It was early sunday morning. Just a rough loss for every one who has been watching college football over the past fifteen to twenty years if not more than that amid seeing as he started at florida state in i think it was nineteen seventy six. Maybe so we're talking. If you've watched college football over the past basically five decades you are fully aware of who. Bobby bowden is and him passing away at the age of ninety one truly a tough loss for anyone involved in the sport of college. Football there Other just terrible sports stories. This week the nfl talked about this as well earlier in the show today. Coming out of cracking down on taunting. This is just proof that the nfl has no idea who or what it is in the sense of the nfl is an entertainment venture always has been fans. Make the nfl go round. That hasn't changed. It's never going to change as a professional sports league. If fans do not tune in you don't have a leak and the nfl deciding that they want. Crackdown on taunting. Basically what they're saying is we don't want a motion in our sport. We don't want trash talk. We don't want verbal altercations. We don't want hand gestures or anything else that's part of what makes these athletes these athletes this. What makes them unique and win. The nfl comes out basically deciding. They want to cut down on that. I think that's going to end up having a Very negative impact for a lot of people in how they view the nfl. it's already been going downhill the. Nfl is already viewed as the no fun league in the first place and it's not going to get better with this decision so this is just a terrible move from the nfl Hopefully the referees involved decide not to really enforce this seeing as they are the ones who are going to get the final say as to whether they throw flags or not. hopefully they don't. Because like i said the nfl. It shouldn't stand for the no fun league. No matter how hard they try to just let that reputation stand Also valparaiso university changed their name for those of you who weren't aware four. Virtually all of eternity valparaiso university has been known as the crusaders and they decided that they were going to rid themselves of that nickname last year of leave. It was late last year because of the fact that With the social justice push that got started last year that now continues on. They decided that determine crusaders was basically tied into too many hate groups and that's the reason they decided to rid themselves of the name now before i go any further with this. There are a lot of names that you can drop for a lot of different reasons. Crusaders isn't one of them. I'm sorry it's just not. I'm sorry if you're getting offended in any form by the term crusader. The problem isn't with valparaiso university. The problem is with you. Quit being offended by random words that are not offensive in any for like i said the cleveland indians changing their name that once potentially legitimate. I'm not a huge fan of changing names at all. But if you're going to. I guess indians redskins all of these. You can at least make an argument for the crusaders. No like what are we doing. And what makes this. Worse is valparaiso announced this week. What they were changing their name to and they will now be known as the valparaiso beacons basically a beacon of light which i'm not opposed to the name. I'm opposed to the name change because it's ridiculous but as far as it goes. I'm okay with the name that they decided to choose. That's fine. the problem is the logo. They also released the logo when they announced the new name. And it's a lighthouse okay. That doesn't seem like it's newsworthy. That doesn't seem like it's problematic. It's a beacon. It's a lighthouse beacon of light. I'm okay with this until you realize that. Valparaiso university is an indiana. How many lighthouses do you think there are in indiana. I make it make sense like if you want to be known as the beacons. That's fine if you're talking beacons of light. I'm okay but then when you decide to come out and your logo is basically a lighthouse. Truly how many lighthouses are there in the state of indiana. How many people that attend valparaiso university or fully aware of what lighthouses are. This is absurd so valparaiso. It was a bad move in the first place. You picked it okay name when you've decided to go with ridiculous move of changing the initial name but the logo. You gotta fix the logo. Because it can't be a lighthouse when you're located in indiana just can't be a thing. And lastly dennis schroder the point guard. Backup point guard from the los angeles lakers Costing himself millions upon millions of dollars with the move that he just made for those of you. Who don't know what i'm talking about. Dennis schreuder Got signed by the boston celtics on a one year. At least it's five point. Four or five point. Nine million dollar deal with boston. Which i think. That's underpaying schroeder. Just a little bit. He averaged fifteen six and four. Maybe last year decent numbers My answer would be somewhere in the hindu. Eleven range that i would give shooter well. Deep problem is that the reason he just signed for millions less than he should've is that the los angeles lakers offered him a four year. Deal for eighty four million dollars earlier this year back in march or april up. Leave it was that. La offered him a deal and he actually turned the deal down because he wanted. Word is roughly twenty five million range. He wanted four for a hundred. I don't know who he thought was giving him four for one hundred but it wasn't going to beat the lakers and the other side of this is he is now cost himself. What roughly seventy eight million dollars with this move. This guy's agent has to be fired. Because i'm assuming it has to be as agent. Who was in his ear telling him. You can make more than this. Turn down the eighty four mill. And now he signed for less than six. This guy's agent cannot be his agent anymore because this should be borderline criminal. What just happened to finish. Ruder i am perfectly fine with betting on yourself with believing in yourself.

"Toyota and Valparaiso University and Anthony's foundations got a really cool auction going on to raise money for the foundation, which does so much for people battling cancer, both the person battling and the family affected around them. Anthony joins us now for his weekly hit. All right. Where is I'm not going to labor over last night. How did we get here? Like How did this happen? Yeah. Uh, just Just baseball. It sucks. It's uh You know, we It was like a month ago or last win, but it was no hitter there in L A and First game going out West. Get that win and just It is scared, and it seems like our offense is we're just not scoring more than 23 runs. Four runs, Um And then obviously game in and Milwaukee crushed us, But, um I mean, bitch. Just one of those neighbors just gotta desperately going to win somehow, some way going to be a weird win. But we just got to get one. Okay, so You were a little kid. In 1997. The Cubs started all in six. That's how they started the season and they lost the two really amazing teams. The Marlins who would win the World Series and the Braves, who had Maddux, Glavine, Smaltz and Avery, they come home. I take the keys to the then that the radio station had. I drive it up to Wrigley and I said, I'm going to do the radio show from here and I am going to sleep in the van till the Cubs win a game. They started on 14. I didn't know that. Yes, I I knew I was in trouble. First, I had Mark Grace dropping chicken off to eat. I had Doug Glanville knock on the van door and then the team got back really late at night. And I opened the van door and it's the manager. It's Jim Riggleman. And I'm like, Hey, Riggs. What are you doing it like whatever time it was in the middle of the night. He's like Dude, you're going to be here a while we suck, and it went to 14. And I finally got out of there Now, Glanville, text me I got these people are reaching out. They want me to live in a Tent. In the Wrigleyville area to you win again. Any thoughts on that. I can't believe we're here. I I Obviously, I I can't believe it either of Player. We expect to win every day when every day and every game, but If you if you do do the tangible hot so you're gonna have to bring make sure you just pack appropriately. Um, she stay hydrated, but I mean, it's just Losing is not fun and in this part of the season before the All Star break. Um It's just It's not fun, and we have to find a way to win a game and Obviously easier said than done, but Um I mean, we just have to win. That's it. So do you think I should do this? Because I said to Danny at the break, Okay. If I do something, whatever it is tent or some kind of Goofy thing to help. You know, the cause I want to. I raised a lot of money last time. I'd like to raise even more this time and have it go to your foundation. So do you think I should do this? You have any suggestions? Doesn't have to be in a tent. It could be something else. I mean, honestly, I just I think that It will be a waste of time because we're going to go out tonight and get a W So It's my optimism, but if you were to do something Then I mean Sure. I don't know. There's some nice Wrigleyville bars. I'm sure would host you there for a few days. Yeah, Leader Murphy's and Bernie support he reached out you can live in our place. Um But it's just I mean, and the called the House on the inside. We've been rallying and doing Things needed. Obviously, nothing is working to this point. But, um I mean, W is definitely on the horizon. Okay, so I had people texting or demon or tweet in questions. They got a lot of them. So what is it like in that room Because I likened it to. There's this guillotine hanging over the door where you walk into that beautiful clubhouse and You don't know who it's going to chop first because of being 8.5 back, and we're in the month of July. Is there this feeling in the room of impending doom? Like Anthony. They want to see you upstairs or Anthony Jed's on the phone or Javi or Chris or Craig or whoever it is or it's not even thought about. I mean, it's definitely were We're all humans. And if this is a business and You know, it's definitely There definitely is some sort of elephant in the room on that aspect, but The same time. Being professional. You've come in and you have a job to do, And it's you know, starts come in and out. But This is when you have to stay committed to the process is for the forest and do all the cliches and answered of philosophy to is do all the cliches and keep your head down and just continue to keep working. Um But when you go to a school like this, it doesn't matter. What's going on the outside. It's just it's just about winning as competitors. Uh, You know you. You tell everyone, I'll lose anything. Uh, 10 times in a row and It's just frustrating. You're going to face Aaron Nola tonight. I know area has had his struggles that that loss and I was at the game in Milwaukee last.

"2nd. Good morning, It's 12 minutes after seven o'clock, Let's open up the mailbox and check on some listener feedback. Yeah, I was talking the other day about, uh, Going to French restaurants. And Mrs Surratt loves French food, but me not so much. And I, uh I posed the question. Am I a barbarian? And this person said, Bob, You're not a barbarian. As long as you don't put ketchup on a hot dog. Okay, that is good to know. I don't and let's see. Here I run the career center in Valparaiso University, the economy, the job market is on fire. Employers are bombarding us with requests, job postings and openings they are desperate to hire. Well, everybody, uh, we talked especially in the in the hospitality industry is complaining that they can't. They can't find people. They don't have any. Any workers. And we're getting jobs numbers later today, I think, did we get him? You know there is about 15 minutes away. And, you know one caveat to when we say there's a shortage of labor is that employers who are paying more and offering incentives are having no trouble finding workers so there may be a pay issue involved there. More to come on that. As for the gas tax, they did not technically lie when they said no new taxes they just neglected to say, But that doesn't mean we can't increase existing taxes and, uh, look out. When you see what we can do with these? Yeah, out the gas tax went up here July 1st, didn't it? And, uh, we talked about this yesterday with the president of the better Business Bureau. The phishing scam for the driver's license facility does not say Secretary of State. The message, says Illinois D M. V, a non existent department. I received this scam via text. As well as one stating that I have overpaid my Illinois property tax with a link to file a claim. I have an Illinois phone number, but I lived in Wisconsin. Be well. Laurie in Wisconsin. Yeah, Be careful. That's that's all. It's all funny stuff. Um, Bob. Maybe it's time for you to send that one of your famous and informative tweets to David Ross to get the Cubs back on track. I'll work on that. And we heard from a lot of people, uh, who wanted to hear about their favorite hot dog stands? We had Vienna's, uh, Bob Schwartz on yesterday who wrote the book? Uh, What's that book called? Never put ketchup on a hot dog. Bills pub in Mandalay in his great hot dogs, even wrapped with fries. It sound rude 45 in Diamond Lake Road wrapped in fries. Yeah, that's uh, that's a That's a gene and Jude's made that famous and a lot of lot of people do that. It gives the hot dog a bit more of a grease taste, which is, uh, Kind of surges. Enjoy. You enjoy that. That's very important. Do you remember Garden hot dogs on 26th in Little Village between Springfield and Hamlin? We went there in the early seventies. That's the great thing about Chicago. Everybody's got a favorite. Uh, Neighborhood Hot dog stand only around here, right? Bob just wanted to let you know that the young comedy writer on the show you like hacks is the former SNL cast member Laraine Newman's daughter. Wow, I didn't know that. She's really good. That's a good show Hacks. HBO. Max, Right? Yeah. Check that out. You like you like that series a lot. And then we had quite a few, Uh Messages, emails and texts about my problem with my phone yesterday. And let me see here. Was was not getting my emails. At least not my AOL emails. I've just opened the scent. You'll find the message you wanted to read. Yeah, That's how I retrieved some messages I sent to myself because sometimes I send notes to myself and I wasn't seeing them yesterday. Is your phone in airplane mode? No, I checked. It was not an airplane mode Control. Um Joe solve the problem, though. By, uh what did you do? Joe? Can't remember now I change your password. Oh, yeah, right. And then we re entered the password and Everything. Everything was fine. But thanks to everyone who gave me some suggestions. I got some good ones. Going to your settings on your iPhone and then into mail, Delete your account and re enter your account info. That's kind of what we did. That's kind of what we did. That's the route we were going to take. But it wasn't accepting the password that we thought it was that basically we were forced to change the password, right Can't have too many passwords. Oh, this was the best idea throughout your fun and get two cans and a string. I don't think they suggest that at the genius bar doing 7 17 will get to extremely local news from Black Club Chicago. "He's brought to you by Valparaiso University and they had a big upset win over Drake. The other day, who was undefeated and ranked Val Post smacked him by 17. After ball in the lead the day before in that two game serious so congrats to Matt Logic and Valparaiso, Albert Breer Tristan dwarfs had the highest pro football focus. Great of any player in the Super Bowl. He was a rookie. On the offensive line. I guess it proves that if you have a good offensive line and you protect your quarterback, you can make plays. And if you don't I don't care who you got back there. Even Patrick Holmes. You know what? It's interesting because, you know, I think that like for all the only made over Brady in the homes and the different skill position players, each team had all the different story lines going in and You know, football still a game one of the line of scrimmage and you know, I ast much of anything else. But that game was representative of that. And you know you saw with the chief's losing Um, Eric Fisher and Mitch Schwartz. You know, going to that game and get without their tackles against defensive line that had dominant Sue. And Shaq, Barrett, Jason Pierre Paul and like you said. On the other side, you know it's It's investing in the first round pick the 1st 1st trumpet they had with Tom Brady. They're in the right tackle interesting works and adding it to a group that already really invested in that already had Donovan Smith and Sean gents. And then Ryan Jensen and You know, in Alamar pet on it. Um, you know, we saw the difference. We saw the difference in the two teams really kind of came at the line of scrimmage. And you know the deficiency of cheese had there not only Meant, you know. Patrick Holmes is running for his life all night. But it also meant more three and outs, which allowed the bucks to establish the pace in the temple of the game and kept it from being the sort of fast breaking chief sir are more comfortable. And so you know, I think everything came down to that. You know another great example of how football's a game one blind scrimmage, Albert, you've covered Tom ready for a long time, so you can have perspective of this. So where do you place Tom Brady amongst the grace that you've seen your lifetime. Eyes. I mean, boys, the greatest football player without question, you know, and I didn't see You know, Johnny United or, um, you know where Otto Graham play, but I think it's safe to say that, you know, um, you know, 20 years from now on, we're all old. Not that we aren't already but Uh, that that Brady is going to be, you know, regarded, probably is the greatest football player ever to play. The heavens. Have on sports in sports is tough, You know, and I sort of and I know that I don't want to take a fight with you guys. I know it's city around. But, you know, I think that this does sort of, you know, kind of Elevate him to another level from a lot of other guys could being able to do this another city at his age. And look, I know there are degrees of difficulty and all this, but When I looked this up a sort of blown away. I mean, we all remember what Michael Jordan was with the Wizards. Brady's five years older Now then then, then Jordan was when he signed in Washington and you think about that, and it just sort of. It's crazy to think like How much you know Tom Braise, you know, accomplished Senses. 37th Birthday Four championships is he turned 37. You know it's I don't know. You know, I think we have to kind of let it breathe a little bit The figure out where he's at But, you know, I think we're way past arguing if he's the greatest football player of all time. I think you know now we're looking at things like that. Where I'm preparing him with Jordan comparing the Bay Bruce, you know, compare him with whoever you want. Wayne Gretzky. You know, I think he's very solidly in the argument. As you know, one of the three or four greatest Came sports athletes in North American history. And I hope he grew up here. I grew up here. I love Michael Jordan, all of it. I agree. Tom Brady for me, is the greatest team sports athlete. He the most dominant Lang Gretzky. Wilt Chamberlain's numbers were insane. But in terms of Dropping a guy under your franchise and the effect he has I go. Tom Brady number one. Yeah. You know what's interesting about two guys is like I remember, you know, so I covered Brady now mold up to have covered Brady when he was in his twenties, but Um, you know, I remember my first couple years covering the league and you know I was on the Patriots feet. And so I was every one of their games and five and six and I You know, I just I remember there were even then there was like a feeling of inevitability that in the fourth quarter, whether they were down by 10 are up by 10. He was gonna take over and it was the same sort of feeling. It was the exact same sort of feeling. I remember having Michael Jordan when he was a teenager. You know what I mean? Like where you knew the ball is in his hands at the end of the game. It didn't always work out this way. But you knew what you felt like you knew who was gonna win. You know what I mean? Looking again, like there's almost shocking when it didn't happen in the world points in time for both Jordan and Brady, where they had the ball in their hands, and it didn't work out. But more often than not You felt like it would happen and more than just that. You knew they knew it was gonna happen. And so I think that that's just such a I don't know. I mean, we could talk about like our generation versus you know, kids who are, you know, 20 years old. Now there's so much focus on like Um there's so much focus on like rock athleticism and, like, you know, the ability to you know, put together a highlight that wild people on social media I think sometimes.

"I just take you and your it until you take somebody else. Albert Breer. No, no, I'm not playing a game. I'm reading learning. And I'm not okay on Chicago's home first sports. What bird? Is it? Yeah. Albert Prayer brought to you by Valparaiso University is our guy and Albert. Welcome to the cap. Jay Hood shows you do every Tuesday. So I was in Valparaiso, Indiana, doing a college game the other night last Thursday, and my radio whenever I get out, the car told he's on Am 1000. I get in the car like an hour and a half drive back, and I'm like Wait a minute. That's Albert Breer on our station. You were on the national show. And you said correct me if I'm wrong. They said. Where do you think to Sean? Lots of takes his first snap next season? And your answer was the Houston Texans. Do you still believe that? I mean, I just don't know where it's going to go. So I think like if you had to do percentages right now, the highest percentage of the Houston Texans, you know, because Look like right now. The Texans are so long anybody who tries to make an offer and in turn the shot the shot watch and isn't returning. The Texans calls so until something changes there. We're sort of nowhere and, you know, I think there's two ways to look at this. If you're Nicholas aerial 11 hand it's Like you have what everybody is looking for, which is the sort of quarterback that you can compete for the next 10 years with against Patrick, the homes and the chief. So you have that, and that's why we're seeing so much quarterback movement across the NFL because everybody's looking for that sort of quarterback now. The flip side like I, You know, Do you really want to saddle a new coaching staff with this for the next six months Because that's the risk that it could drag on one day. They don't have to do it right now. As much of anything because Like it's not like Sean Watson's values go plummet three months like his values gonna hold, so I do think they at least have the luxury of time here and trying to figure things out. You know, Nick Assyrians got to figure out one thing Albert, and that is do not refer to the shot. Watson has the player or the asset. That's a new one thing and that if I'm watching, that rubs me the wrong way, because I'm not a New England patriot like it's the equivalent of Mike Thomas saying Do you? Hey, What do you think of the host that you work with? They think the host is doing well, You're talking about capper Jay Hood. Which one? Right? So I think that from that standpoint it could there be a disconnect for watching is like You call me the player Shawn Watson. I would give my Thomas a very straightforward nana stance. If they ask me about the host will be in there fighting for, you know, a guy like you know what? I see what it sort of felt bad for Nick on that. I'll be honest, like I've heard people intentionally do that before we hear Joe Judge with a little bit of it back in the summer. If you are roll the clock back, and he has a familiar with this 2000 and nine Were Josh McDaniels referred Jay Cutler that way before he was traded. So, like I couldn't understand the sensitivity towards it. I also think if you listen to the whole press conference, he called him to Sean by name, like 30 times. You know what I mean? Like, and I think like I think we can cut him a break there and that That was an honest slip up, you know, and You know? Yes. Used to a certain vernacular, and you've been talking a certain way for so long, Like sometimes things can slip And I don't think there was any sort disrespect meant towards the shot. Watson there. Because if you listen, I think you probably find a 0.5 or 10 seconds later where he said the word to Sean and probably five or 10 seconds earlier where he said the word to Shawn So I don't think that there was any disrespect meant there. And I don't think was intentional. I think that was more of a slipped in anything else. And I don't think that that's something that's gonna I'll put it this way out. And that's gonna cause a huge problem between the stereo and the Sean mainly because I think the problem right now is in between. Stereo into Shawn. It's not between David Coli into Shawn. It's between ownership in the shot. So when you look at 18 potential quarterback moves, and you know you were on here with us last week talking about there's gonna be a ton of them and we see Stafford goes and Now there's rumors the Bears might be looking at Carson Wentz, are we finding less emphasis on dead money in contracts where teams are like you know what? I don't care? I'm willing to eat that money. I got to get a guy. Well, it just depends on the terms. You know what I mean? Like, Are you a great player or mass staffers? A great player. You know what I mean? Are you a are? Are you going to do something for me? If I am willing to hang on to the dead cat money, you know, and like in the case of the Rams, you know they trade Jared Goff. You know, really lives in MBA element that trade and then I think the Rams had to pay a little more because the lines were gonna take on Jared Goff's contract. And so I think it's sort of I don't know. Way to look at the dead money. Part of it is it is part of the picture. And so if ISA team we're gonna have to take on dead money to trade a player and that player then becomes like an affordable deal for somebody else. Well, then. Yeah, you know, like I You know, I'm gonna expect you to give me a little bit more because you're getting the player in a cheaper rate. I'm on the flip side. If there's a ton of guaranteed money for a player, that's not worth it. Well, then you're gonna have to give me something to take on that contract. So I think we almost have to sort of look at these things. Whether it's dead money on a deal that makes it feel more affordable for the team that trading for him, or it's guaranteed money that somebody's gonna be responsible for. Um, you know, this past with the players value is you just have to sort of look at that as part of the mosaic when you're looking at a draft copy of the draft, pick compensation or whatever is coming back for whatever players Harbor, which cornerback could pay dividends for their team. The soonest innit Stafford with Los Angeles or golf in Detroit. Well, I I There's such different situations, You know..

"Focusing on running the football and taking pressure off Mayfield and asking him to do some different things. Don't know if it'll matter, but they re opened their facility today. And so they could actually practice practice today. You all right? Yeah. Still, I mean, listen, I don't think the Steelers played well at the end of the year. Obviously, they lost to Washington. They got beat by Buffalo. They got beat by the Bangles. They came from behind, scrambled to beat the Colts and then Like you said they were without all of their guys last week and lost to the Browns they've lost for their last five. I don't think this is gonna be Steelers. 50 Browns 10. But I got the Steelers winning by a touchdown in this game. Yeah, I know I got I've got them winning two. It's gonna be, I think, just fascinating about how the Browns Do this weekend. I think it's going to be fair without one of their their offensive linemen, right? They've got a couple receivers that are on the coded list is well, your coaches out. He's your play caller as well. Yeah, I think that they've got some adversity here that Will be very interesting to see how they handle it. So I also think the with that conversation you could ask the same question You're asking about Mitchell trip risking the Bears with Browns fans and bigger may feel absolutely like, Is there something he conduce? You? This weekend and then in these playoffs to change your opinion on him as a player, Don't you think, though he has changed some opinions based on how he's played here, this the least the back half of the season already sure they also run the football lot more, and they specifically done that, And we've seen the success level rise for Travis Key when the bear started doing the same kind of stuff, But you will see Mayfield play from the pocket more. And they do trust him or to throw the ball from the pocket. But he's cut down on his mistakes. This year. He only threw eight interceptions after throwing 21 last year. When you asked the question you said earlier. How important is it coaching? I think Kevin's too fancy. He's done a fantastic job with him taking some of the pressure off of him right And that's why we'll see like how much will it actually affect one week on a game day. With how to him on the sidelines. He's not allowed to do it. He can't talk to him all game, but I think Chris makes a really good point. I mean, look, people are still kind of on the fence about Baker Mayfield. You want to change people's opinions, go out there and win a game. Under these circumstances against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and so here's what I want to do. Let's load up the phone lines either way. You support Mitch or you don't. I mean, we all support him. We want him to do well, But is there anything Sunday? That could happen? That will change your mind. You're pro Mitch. And he doesn't do well, will you? Then finally just say I just can't. I got to get off the roller coaster. If you're been a detractor if he plays really well in the biggest moment of the season, and they win. Where they come close, And it's not the offenses fault will you then say I'm good with him for another year, 3323776 and our keys. To the Bears will talk about that coming up. Coming up. Next.
