"Five is going to be heavy from the Valley Freeway to about North East 30th. Then we switch over to some lighter, slowing as we continue through the Newcastle area, our next Cuomo traffic up 7 14. Let's check in with meteorologist Kristen Clark, part of the co Moh forecast team. What the holiday we'd be without a little bit of snow. Yes, Today we could track some wet snow in parts of the interior lowlands that could first start up their port Angeles into the Bellingham area, and it's only begin to make its way south into Puget Sound. Seattle, especially Bellevue. The East side can't rule out maybe a quick burst to snow by mid to late afternoon today. But the roads they're warm, so a lot of the snow's gonna melt instantly on contact with the pavement. But maybe a slushee in sure, two of accumulation for foothill communities on the grassy surfaces. That's a possibility and any quick hitting snow's gonna be enough to really reduces visibility on the roads. Also making maybe the afternoon evening commute a little more slow going and coming Weather center and meteorologist Kristen Clarke showers in Seattle right now, But there is has been steadier, heavier rain north of ever it up into to the would be island area. Also west of us on the kids that peninsula there's more on the way it's 43 degrees in Seattle. Right now, Skiers are in luck with all that snow in the forecast for the mountains couples carleen Johnson got more from the National Weather Service concerns about flooding from rain over the last few days of, thankfully not really materialized. The only flooding right now is in Mason County with these Komische River, and it's only minor pulling up. Says the good news for anybody who wants to hit the slopes this holiday week expecting more snow in the mountains, another 12 to 18 inches for the North Cascades and about another foot for you know areas for the south like the central and Southern Cascades, and the area says it's going to be cool enough to keep the slopes white. Some higher elevations. Suburbs could see like a little burst of wet snow over 1000 ft. But he says it's not going to be cold enough to stick so hopes for a white Christmas will have to wait for another year. Carleen Johnson Coma News. "Be part of this great day. It is time for traffic at 8 24. Here's Chris Sullivan sponsored by Harbor Stone Credit Union. And all Eyes are on the Fife and Porter Tacoma area right now, just to just north of Tacoma. What we have here is we start with the crash South bound I five, which was blood, still blocking the right hand lane at Port of Tacoma Road, and we have basically a 5.5 mile back up behind it from before the county line all the way down. And we're looking at at least a 40 minute drive from federal way to Tacoma. That is a 30 minute delay. And it turns out the crash that we would seeing on that was blocking the left lane is actually in the north bound direction there a quarter way. By the cameras. I thought it was South bound as well in the same back up, but no, it is actually North bound, and that's what's causing a 10 minute delay getting out of Tacoma heading up the hill. You've got about a two mile solid backup there. As you work your way up out of Fife of past that and up towards the truck scales Now the rest of map is calming down. I mean, we're looking at a Valley freeway drive that is very calm. And about a 35 minutes there and then rent into Bellevue. Also about 30 minutes so often on not too bad as you work your way up to Newcastle. It clears up after that out of the north, and we looked really good through Everett and Marysville and Everett down through Linwood Back out of 32 minutes from ever to Seattle Revert to Bellevue. We still have a little bit of westbound slowing on highway two after a crash on the trestle as you got over to the I five side of things. The lake Bridges continue to look good guy radio. "From the AL Bro Michigan Curve up into the heart of downtown Valley Freeway 35 minutes to go from Puyallup to Renton. So quiet there, too out of the north and 30 minutes or less from ever to Seattle or ever to Bellevue. So if your head now now would be a very good time to do it got radio real time traffic on the threes. I'm Chris Sullivan. It is 8 14. Seattle's Morning news and for Dave Ross, I'm Erin Riddle. Oh, we want your baby just few seconds, though, because yesterday's press conference from governor insulin About bending the covert curve back down here in Washington. So Dave, who is technically on vacation but always up for a chat with the governor spoke with Insley just after he wrapped up Some critics have made a distinction between the number of cases and actual hospitalizations that using the number of cases makes things sound worse than they are. Although I'm looking at the university Washington curve, and they're predicting that what by January we will be out of ICU beds anyway. Well, listen, let's be clear about this, that that is ridiculous because our hospitalizations are at or exceeding what they were in March. When we were building pop up hospitals. And so the hospitalizations now are at an all time high during this pandemic and will exceed it. Dramatically. This thing has been doubling every 10 days or so. So the hospitalization numbers are You know, very, very concerning spot. We do have hospitals already. That are having to starting continuing their elective procedures. But just looking ahead. This is you know, if you're gonna beat this pandemic you have to. You have to get ahead of the curve. If you're if you're behind it, it just kills you so We have to look where we'll be in 2 to 3 weeks and in two or three weeks. Less. These trends continue. We will be in a situation where there is Massive loss of medical of a normal medical support for elective surgeries and the like. And and And at some point you get to position where you're in crisis care standards of care, And that means people just don't get lifesaving treatment has nothing worked any of the procedures that restaurants and these other businesses are taken in the in the Days since we first hit the peak in April. None of that was enough. Well, No, we do believe that we We, um we camped down what I'd call the second wave this past summer. Adopting wide scale mask usage, and we were leading the cur one of leading states on this That's why we actually bent the curve down a second time in the second wave. That was because of the diligence of Washingtonians who put on math and that was very, very successful. Other states did not do that. And that is a significant reason why Their rates or sometimes 10 times higher than ours. So we did have success this summer with a combination of good hygiene in our stores, thanks to good business owners and employees. People putting on masks when they go shopping. That did allow us to keep these number low. But as winter has come on, and as we as we have gone on inside And as the rest of the nation has had seen these explosive rates that eventually come into our state. Um, we've just been hammered. Now I do want to put this in perspective. Troublesome is it is there are 45 other states today have hired disease rates than we do. And so we have had considerable success, and it is because of Washingtonians responsibility. You just noticed today that there was a study done that showed When it comes to being safe on Thanksgiving. We're the number one state in the United States. So I mean We are doing things relatively right. But we have to up our game. So providing relief. It looks like Congress is not gonna do it a taste. Not until after the inauguration. You've pried loose some additional money. Does the state have enough money to Rio? Keep some of these restaurants? I mean, you're you're hearing more and more businesses saying and I get the emails. This is it for us. We way we came pretty close to extinction the first time, But now we have to throw in the towel. Well, at the moment, we're getting close to the end of the the account. We have the caress funding. There's about $150 million last left. So we do have some cash that could be available. We have a lot of other claims to that. We're going to need to hire some more contact. Tracers. We need more work on our vaccine distribution system. Hospitals need some potentially, you're asking for financial assistance. And the reason is as they as they become full. They have to cancel their elective surgeries, which were one of their sort of profit centers of revenue centers. So there are many, many claims to this remaining $150 million. So this is something we will continue to look at. We are talking to legislators of both parties about their ideas about potential further relief for Jim not just restaurants, but other small businesses as well. And so those things are under consideration. We all are still hopeful for some congressional action, as you know, because that's really where the real Flexibility exists to do big things of multi billion dollar things. I do want to reiterate as well, though, while we're looking for help for the owners of the businesses. In my book. We've got to think about the employees with equal. Respect and their unemployment. Many of them are gonna lose unemployment at the end of this year, and I believe that we need to look at a solution for them. Now what that is is we've got to figure out how to finance it. And money doesn't grow on trees. And as you know, we have a multi billion dollar hole in our budget already. So people said. We got this rainy day fund, but the rainy day fund has already allocated Just to try to plug this multi billion dollar hole we have in our budget. That hole is not as big as it was two months ago because our economy continues actually to be in some sense healthy generate these revenues, but it's still multiple billions of dollars. So If we do this, we'll have to figure out a way to finance it. And that's not gonna be easy. And I will continue to talk to legislators both parties but how to do that? I'll bet you have some ideas, though. And with one of them be some sort of income tax. No, no, no, that's an easy one. You're very quick to say no. Because the honest answer is that honest is that is that I like you want to see very quickly that is that dead little idea dead now. There is no serious discussion of an income tax that in the Legislature that I'm aware of. Oh, well, wealth tax, uh, any other text any other tax that people would find? Um, annoying. Well, I've kind of fine all taxes or annoying to somebody, so I wouldn't say they're all annoying to some degree. Listen, there's there's a million different ideas that we probably wouldn't be productive to talk about. But we will make proposals in mid December when I roll out my budget. We will propose a balanced budget. It will do the best job it can to help businesses and employees and Health systems and hospitals and in.
