Macron Moves Right As Next French Presidential Election Looms

"Facing no threat from the left in next year's election, French President Emmanuel Macron is moving sharply to the right. His principal opponent is likely to be the far right populist million. The pen. When they faced off in 2017 voters rallied to Mac want to keep the pen out of office. But as NPR's Eleanor Beardsley reports that may not happen in next year's vote. Parliamentarians from France's mainstream conservative party have been proposing a flurry of controversial amendments aimed at restricting the muslin veil quality control. A totalitarian Islamic for combat was John. We can't let Islamist totalitarianism impose its symbols on minors, said Senator Valeri Boy, Hey as she introduced a measure to ban girls under 18 from wearing the job. The amendments have no chance of becoming law. But they show how desperate the conservative party is to win back voters. It lost to the far right, says Rim, Sarah Ah, Juan, who studies religious freedom and civil liberties at the University of to lose capital. With the election coming off course it's who is going to Pender the most of the far right. I mean or political party are adopting the rhetoric of the far right. It's like a dream come true. They're running the campaign for them. Many look, it doesn't have anything to do with. To be honest. The amendments were to a larger bill to fight extremism proposed by Macron centrist government. "What was now no well? They want. It shout rams yes. I think that's the only thing Taylor tournament everyone. I'm not saying a knock. I'm saying rents have history. You're a mean a similar competition. You're in a mood today said the one who's been leaned on the side knocked out of the jetsons on his computer minister. Seattle oursel- in the West we go in a League Cup so you would have maybe Abe's Lotta time depending on how that shakes out but also Seattle has a lot of experience. It had some success in that as well. Alexander Soda think would really sort of relish. This chance to test themselves at that level is won't are so came close to knocking off this year. Do we think that if Minnesota host let's say Minnesota gets. Let's say Minnesota wins. I'M ALASKA GETS INTO CCA. Would they host at home outside. Oh that isn't time yeah. That'd be a no way. Could they right. There's no way we were there. They were the first home mid April six foot snowdrifts. I see your point. Did you not welcome for fall. It's already going snow game hopes on that one look again I hope. MLS teams take leaks seriously because it is an awesome opportunity because it is a chance to test yourself against the best maxim by the way League Amax has sent their best this season. That's why they want it. That's why I was two teams. In the final Minnesota Soda United were there. Let's talk about it again. Fire off the Confetti Canon. Do you get Confetti for your first playoff berth. Yes or no are no harm. No Confetti are they did get a front page treatment from the papers in the twin cities there in put the X. Next to their name they won last second against Sporting Kansas City has Sanni Datsun which all of the loons fans are saying should be rookie of the year got the goal off affliction right into the corner of the net sporting. KC dropped yet more points laid on and Adrian Heath afterwards was an Adrian Heath mood congratulations Adrian Heath by the way this was big for him. I didn't read one magazine. I didn't read one publication that tip us to be in the western conference playoffs that heath after this one it turns out that according to bear here he's the source direct all vitriol trill been bear at Ben Bear Eighty Nine on twitter actually three of six did officially on Emma Soccer Dot Com and those three were been bear Jaylen car and Bobby warshaw. I picked him ninth tenth and Charlie pick the mate and then yeah you're clearing your voice and why would that be. Oh that would be okay because I was one of the earliest supporters of Minnesota in our season previews. I basically said that do yes tape yeah. I'm with you both. I think that this is a playoff team and I also think that this is a team that cooed surprise a lot of people of noise. We're all just saying you you heard it here. First you guys yes sir. You did hear it there. I Adrian Heath allow right here. I think that takes us to more than fifty percent for Minnesota the United picking them to make the playoffs yeah but whichever you guys I published in a magazine K. Missing publications here no magazine in he didn't say on this on these magazines that's true. It's clearly a US against the world game plan here. which we understand teams do the part that? I don't get that I don't like is that it is literally them against no-one. Everyone is cheering for Minnesota United. It is the feel good story of major league soccer in two thousand nine hundred and this upstart team who had the Goliath Atlanta next to them when they came into the League then they finally build this gorgeous stadium. Their fans are fantastic antastic both in stadium on social media. They are a fan base club club. You can cheer for everyone. was everyone wanted this deal in the playoffs. It is not you against anyone. Why are you doing more. Maybe that's what's feeding their fuel. They have to have this mentality that they've adopted it early on you. Oh you know they painted themselves as kind of like the dark horse lenders now that is their identity. Let me let me say something about life. Love is more powerful Horford than hey tom. They had all of this lumbering door over. They had embracing embrace it. Nobody was cheering against nine life. There was no hate needed. That's all I'm saying that's very I appreciate listen Bobbi nicknames. Ahe Everyone's challenged you every day. You gotTa have someone to find you and stop the. You adopt the personality for manager and all that I get it. I'm just bombed out that there has to be this. Is You know look that's eight. He's way and the way work this year. They're in there right now second place in the Western Conference and they've got LLC come into town so that would be another the opportunity to thumb their nose at the haters and say look. We're going to do it again l. AFC We've done it before this season. We can beat them. We'll do it again. We'll do it at home which they won't get that opportunity in the playoffs of course course but that could keep them across the bracket it could keep them in second place in the West and if by God of Minnesota finished second in the West Right now they have allowed thirty fewer goals than they did last year thirty fewer goals. That's instead. We really only Weeden name for this. I would like what would the name be. Would it be the Chad Marshall Theorem. That's the name of an Theorem. It's the name of the thing that's true. I look I'm I'm a huge fan of the Chad. Marshall Theory Michael Barr. I think is GonNa win. Defenders Double Save in this game was crazy. Are you going to give us any dots in the rookie of the year where your votes go on that one has he. We just do this two weeks but he just scored a winning goal. He keeps planning didn't realize his team is second. The West in Brandon aaronson seems second in the Brennan's is so get that's it but I appreciate the shout out in the second place. Now we'll see what the voters decide on that one congratulations Minnesota the galaxy quietly one for them quietly. They won Christian Pavillon with a nice goal of Affleck from Latin a Finnish data. Moja did everything he could but you couldn't do much about that because the spacey credit for himself was there saw the other goal. He's at twenty eight goals L. A. Right behind Minnesota united at fifty one do we you know we're we're far past the narrative point of. Oh God will they make the playoffs in the word they use bobby and they were on the brink of that word but then they they've really kind of tight done stepped up. Do you trust them more now than you did. When bobby was given even the word treatment no not at all. I think they take advantage of mistakes because they have talent top. They take advantage of teams playing poorly. They crush sporting. KC At home sporting KC is not a playoff team they they beat a rotated Montreal team at home much. All their first seems not even GonNa make the playoffs. This is a good one to go on the road at ourselves not going to take away from that but it's still still the same thing where they don't dominate the game any way they give up chances the other way but the goal is lots on getting affleck on because he's bigger than everyone and pavone being special and then the next goal is performed phone being special onslaught on being special they have that no one wants to play against it. It still exists but I I don't think anything they've done over the last three weeks except for the fact that they've Clinton they have to make the postseason has changed the way I feel about them. Yeah it's a team. It's a team that plays open games. They say you're gonNA get your chances. We're going to get our chances. We have PAVONIS saw. Tom And we have David David Binghamton good right. Here's a player that is either high or low and he's down. He is very bad and he has a detriment detriment to your team. When he is good. He is very good these last three games they've they've gone up a ton of chances and every single one. He's been good and they've got the two best players know. There's out of the field. I'm with you David my opinion. None of them has not changed on opening day. I thought if they were to play a single elimination the black game. They had a very good chance of winning. I feel the exact same way now so big on a heater and you have a lot of time pavone and you just have to win four games to win them less cup yeah yeah that could work out pretty well for you and they could finish. They finished second there. Disappoint back from Minnesota united that would mean all home games until the conference finals against L. AFC. At perhaps right and boy oh boy. Would that be fun. That's the top of the West the bottom of the West remains shaky. We ever have a shot of still getting in. I mean that's what everyone's up for. We're getting about as many points as some of those saying Dallas. Were the big winners on Wednesday Wednesday. That's because Dallas didn't play yeah. That's how you do it right now. At the bottom of the western conference they now control their own destiny either one point above the playoff line of forty five points. Portland Timbers drew to too late late late. PK for the ravs a good call draw give breakdown. That was a good call. I think if you call all that one you probably should call the seventy six minute one on above AC- because they're both tugs but I think that the stoppage time is more of a PK than the one before that but it's gonna be tough to swallow if you're a timbers fan no matter how you twist this one yeah. Let's start there with just just throw real quick before we got. There are awesome in this game yes. I'm very excited to see them in the playoffs. I think they're going to win but they played so brave. I guess is the word they went on the road at Portland mid week and they played through everything. They trusted themselves on the ball. They were the better team for sixty five minutes of this game so takeaway results. Bruce Arena's done a good thing and for the route they simplified at this game. They stopped trying to over think it it was a four three two one three neutral defensive offensive minded passing center mids behind Bo and Hill who could just ball out and then it was very simple whereas the five games before that they tried something new. They tried to get fancy. This was three defensive midfielders between two very good attackers and just a normal number nine and that seems to be what format should be in the playoffs because Bo and Hillard that specials they there that special it is really really bunbury up top. Yeah I agree with that but all the way Steve Clark was insane and that's why the probably didn't win this game like he was insane. He I almost got the penalty later on the Carlisle scored jobs. I didn't like a lot of what happened here with the rafts understandable. It's been a tough couple of games for them. I'm with that with the goal line stuff everything else. They complained about stoppage-time. I did the math. Actually it was exactly four minutes when Zebra got pulled down because just they may to subs it took up a minute thirteen like I literally got out the Stop Watch and did the math Portland at Sporting Kansas City Portland at home against San Jose. You mentioned that San Jose the one. I'm going to mention that Sporting. KC here are along with Colorado potentially one of the big spoilers. Oh huge spoilers silver film the race baby stolen. Anything boiling are getting in the playoffs. That's why they're trying to win games. The rapids legitimately have was chance to make the postseason sorry that had to be set on this show. It does matter it's true. They might get knocked out on goal differential. This is a team that was Tara impossible to watch. I don't think they can get knocked out if they were to make it then they would win on wins. They could not be going to more wisdom. It doesn't matter we're GONNA. Let them go semantics here. What do you what do you think Susanna when you see that result and then San Jose with one in the in the stands lose. There's one of the just a uber painful game too. I know I am. I got so if I'm looking at. I'm looking at Portland. I'm looking at Dallas. I'm looking get San Jose and I god. I think Portland might be in trouble. I really think Portland might be in trouble and I feel like there's just bobby. Committed is right good talking. Sorry continue. No I just I'M I..

"Are a few pieces there. It's all by Dan going. So let's switch really quickly. Let's talk about Costa Rica. Yes, you scored the goal that sent your team to the World Cup. And then you took your shirt off, and you root it for all the rest of America and the United States because you couldn't play against Panama. Thanks a lot. And then you let Tori score because you weren't on the field talk to us about that goal. It was about what you saw that game. Man when they saw that game. It was hilarious. It was crazy. Just watching the people from Panama celebrate in. There's no way that about went in notes. Johns nothing the referee knew that the ballgame. But under that pressure. He'd better blew it. Or you're going to be in trouble that strike right now in the pecking order of CONCACAF, it's I put Mexico you guys are there. And then the US are down. You guys are of course, ks the second at no worse than the second best team in CONCACAF. Yeah. To be on. We we want to get in on level that we can't compete against any team against team from Europe. But to to get in that stage in that level window. We have to be better in everything. Like now looking for to the go Cup. We want to win. It will never win it before. So we want to start like that. How are the kids are the the young Costa Rican? Do you see those good coming up? There's good, but then shelling coaster ride. You talk about this potential and Costa Rica, you talk about Mexico being top. What does I argue for a long time? Costa Rica didn't have maybe that next level and Major League Soccer has given them that next level to develop what have you seen or what have people back home set about Major League Soccer what they can seize the competition that we have here. "The world is better for it the ah i think that will be interesting now personally like i have i'm on the record as saying my preferred ending for the series is the night king baby honored ice dragon with valeri in steel dagger in between its teeth lands on on in kings landing and goes i'm the captain now i think that's good i thought that he would do that and in turn to the camera and say did i do that unlike erkel voice crews stock yeah yeah i'm into that i i also kind of like the idea of in waking up in an informant nixon suzanne push it that's good stuff i think there's just a lot of opportunity here on that before no one has ever done that anonymous version by no right um okay game of thrones we got that by the way thursday ten am pacific one pm one pm eastern time we're doing a special mid week episode of talk the throne its season midseason episode give dole some awards out give wissam hardware and you could find that on will be tweeting at the rear will be tweeting chemists but catch crazy that we are now over halfway down the season yeah and that is very surprised you and 2024 when they come back had that's that's the other thing we don't know when when the show's coming back but but i but i'll say like before we move on the show has continued to surprise i i did think that we're always trying immuno this may be unearth everyone does this as i think it's a product of however and watch tv now but may try figure it out try to figure it out but also trying to get a feel for it and this this sort of what we do now because we have to stand up and talk about it live every week now but this seat the show has done a good job the season of surprising us in i don't know if that's because they weren't able to find a rhythm in phnom praising that yeah know as a plus but i'll say it again like this was definitely an alltime could episode and it was an alltime good episode last night because of the thrills of the last ten minutes but but more so because of the engaging storytelling in the.

"You know that a number of things are worse than they are in the fifth element a struggle they're died bruce willis goes through to kind of articulate his vulnerability in love feels earned over the course of the movie and it also lines up at a moment where it's important in the emotional arc and it's important in the plot with you know the meteor hurtling down at earth right this neither of those things is neither of those things is true right like trust me to return to return the anti conservation avert or right yeah the anti conservation of matter parole pearl pooping seahorse rat to you know to thing that coupes all over thermodynamics is i do the people has nothing to do with th do you love me there's nothing that at that moment has particularly brought valeri into the brink of that like it's you know uh and it it just seems not even schematic because it's not that well thought out so you know i i don't know like the fact that that even at like it even fails at the level of sexual exploitation trying to say so this is an interesting opportunity to start talking about the relationship between and and laura lean which is tricky which which is picked up already in progress without a ton of understanding and actually mind that that much so again if you didn't see the movie you might expect that it's not that this is the point in which the two cops meet it's not you might expect that one of them is sort of the rookie and one of them is the more senior cop that's not true either one of them in a ranks both at the what's on mute and and you might expect that this is a movie where they fall in love.

"Six thousand online go to be d t stage dot com was her next movie all right it's out valeri and in the city of a thousand planets it is a sifi spectacle from luke basang he french director is getting a lot of films to us including the fifth element which is against his most prominent sifi feature up until now this one is this story he's been diner tell for a long time it's based on a french comic book series cold valeri in a lower line and it is a dud at the box office about seventeen million that is very bad for movie with a massive budget and when you watch them over you can see every bit of that money and the screen it is really spectacular to watch it's visually stunning in it's it's all cgi trickery but it is beautiful and his sumptuous at times but it's also very silly is about to special operatives who are trying to protect us commander character but is also a space station called alpha and that's scott some sort of cancer lurking within the system and they're that's sort of another story they all kind of we've together i thought the story itself is perfectly fine i think that the visuals are beautiful but i have to say i found the tone bizarre it goes from sort of very serious and somber two goofy in silly and i thought that the two main play here's here deigned to han and kara della wien is had almost zero chemistry and it's all about their flirting and their potential romance and when you have these two main characters attempting to fall in love and they're not and it's just flat he had a problem so you think are the borrowing technique from guardians of the gal lexi which has that kind of salinas in it you.

"While someone tells you what in the hell is going on because otherwise you cannot tell of i was very curious about whether we're all of those moments in there to begin with or did they make the movie and then starts screaming the movie and have everybody say okay i know there's something at the beginning and then there's like a porcupine that pooped marble and then by the other than that i don't i really lost track of it after the working time the moves marvels after that i was like i don't know it's happening and so then they have him be like icees like they're these moments where valeri and stops in is like i see what happened your plan was acts just our veterans owned enough work bargainbasement kiana re the o r it so that's me i have some spoilers that indicate that aisha might agree with me up to a point perhaps not as vehemently as me how did you feel mmhmm now i also hated it i came very very close actually leaving the theater if i had an already known going gonna be discussing this on this show i would have right to me sales i was miserable lake absolutely miserable everything that when the sat i completely agree with in my notes i have here i wrote reminds me of disney channel original movie zina on the guy let us it was a moment where one of the evil characters says i'll find you federal agent the larry i will find you q it had just like gases what this is what's happening so yeah it was just the the visuals to me even weren't enough to make everything that was happening and everything that was being said wang worth watching like i actually fell i had the 3d experience and it may be little sick of motions against a little bit and finally i will just say that this movie made me dislike klima in and that is not okay iit's usually gray in his character it made no sense it was it was the most like cheapest.

"The movies you just saw a movie that was a disappointing over the weekend was really pumped about the trailer made me a believer and and i went to the film and i felt betrayed by it and what we walked out before was overflow now that's a bad movie i mean most movies i will sit through it wasn't it wasn't that bad but i did it because i was there with a with with a a girl and i thought if i'm sitting here board at war for the planet of the eighth in my book if this movie is boring me man wanted to see it who yeah who wanted to see it legislated i yeah exactly she she she can't i can't i probably will be safe leaning over prince saying let's let's gt ever because this is lame did you ask for your money back no and i am the move the movie wasn't really bad enough to walk out a but i walk out of it and how long through the movie i was near the end probably twothirds of the wow at is that i mean but still the fact that it was so dull to you that you're willing to do that i figured i i it was so formulaic that i i was pretty sure i knew how the ending was going to happen and then i read the wikipedia article at the new array was right you should have seen valerian but it was she years and you're getting usually and had a terrible tomato meter dan like the agency added element no okay well enough i don't know how you feel about it but yes cited to see valeri and if you like the fifth you'll love larry and i think we can talk about another time yes opening last week like thursday those great i put a review of actually but comparing it to fit them in.

"Essential to the success of a ten pool movie noor are sort of looking at the list i was compiling as we were during this from what i went through i went through the box office modrow charts for every year for since two thousand wrote down movies i thought sort of belonged on here on and i wrote down far fewer and like the last five years than uh in the first to thirteen or whatever it was did you also sort of see that trend like like do you think that's just like we're getting older or the movies are getting worse well how little both right i mean what amounted to a summer movie i think you should just be a little broader back in the day now we're in an era where like you'll open a sequel against a sequel like things like will happen and which feels sort of like ludicrous use me there were like four or five big sequels every summer like there there was a you know you're giant franchises sure but there wasn't one a week which it there basically is now i'm very excited for movie called valeri mrs not a sequel valeri nazi of a thousand planets has got a thousand planets guy i called valerian i'm really hyped for it it's opening against dengue kirk be only other like sort of original bigbudget movie of the summer practically and when i saw that unscheduled i my like george of jose how're we like we're gonna let these movies essentially cannibalize themselves well you know other movies are gonna have a whole weekends to themselves now on i announced now i sound like a grumpy old man which is sort of i guess the what you're talking about yeah i don't know like when i made my list 'if it actually is a mix of of films federa not all just from early in the analogue early really well that's at the hill soundly much overlap i still do think there is room to make something that is joyous than fun within the realms like the increasingly can of dictated realms of what a blockbuster as i just feel like.
